    Saab Recalls 9-3 Models to Fix Possible Fuel Leak

    General Motors Corp. is recalling the 2001 and 2002 Saab 9-3 because the fuel pump may leak where the gasoline line attaches.

    Approximately 17,400 Saab 9-3 passenger vehicles, both hard top and convertible, built in Uusikaupunki, Finland are included in the recall. The Saab 9-3s were built between May 2000 and July 2002.

    According to national Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents accompanying the recall, the plastic fuel pump retaining tabs holding the fuel lines were damaged during the manufacturing process for some of the Saabs built in Finland.

    NHTSA indicates that over time the fuel lines can loosen from the pump causing the fuel leak and fire potential.

    Reebok Toddlers Athletic Shoes

    About 140,000 Reebok Iverson/Answer toddler shoes are being recalled. The I-3 logo tag on the tongue of the shoe can be peeled off, posing a choking hazard to young children.

    Reebok has received a report of an 8-month-old child mouthing the logo-tag. The tag was removed without injury.

    The recalled Reebok Iverson mid- and low-style athletic shoes were sold in toddler sizes 2 through 10. The logo-tag on the tongue of the shoe reads I3/Answer, and on the rear and center of the heel is an I3 logo. The names Iverson and The Realist are carved into the sole.

    The model number is printed on a label on the underside of the tongue. Model numbers included in the recall are: 99553, B99553, 99554, B99554, 105155, B105155, 105158, B105158, 108292, and B108292.

    Reebok, independent retailers, childrens apparel and athletic shoe stores nationwide sold the shoes from March 2004 through August 2004 for about $35.

    Consumers should immediately take these shoes away from young children and contact Reebok to receive a refund.

    Dream On Me Baby Walkers Recalled

    About 20,000 Dream On Me baby walkers are being recalled. The walkers will fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step. Babies using these walkers can be seriously injured or killed if they fall down stairs.

    The recalled baby walkers have model number 408 or 423 written on a label sewn into the seats. Model 408 has a white and black tray and a black printed fabric base and seat, measuring about 25 inches by 28 inches. Model 423 has a red tray and a purple plastic base measuring about 25 inches by 28 inches. Both models have eight snap in wheels and a label sewn into the seat that reads DREAM ON ME IND INC. BROOKYN, NY 112321, MADE IN CHINA.

    The walkers were sold at small toy and juvenile product stores in the metropolitan New York area from April 2002 through March 2004 for about $25 for model 408 and about $30 for model 423.

    Consumers should stop using the recalled walkers immediately and return the walkers to the retailer where purchased to receive a refund.

      NHTSA Probes Jeep Grand Cherokee, Acura MDX Problems

      The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened defect investigations into the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2001 Acura MDX. NHTSA is looking into alleged problems with the cooling fan in the Grand Cherokee after four owners claimed that pieces of the broken fan blade cut through a plastic casing around it.

      The investigation involves approximately 132,000 Grand Cherokees with 4.0-liter engines.

      NHTSA reported it is also looking into complaints of front coil springs breaking in the Acura MDX and rubbing on the tire.

      There are no reported injuries or crashes associated witih either problem.

      Holiday Ultra-Brite Lights Recalled

      About 52,000 sets of Holiday Ultra-Brite Lights are being recalled. The lights have undersized wires that can easily pull out of the plugs and light sockets becoming exposed. This poses an electric shock and fire hazard to consumers.

      The recalled holiday lights are a string of 50 clear or multicolored bulbs. They were sold in a white and red box with the item number (CH81648 or CH81658) written on the back above the bar code.

      The lights were sold by discount and dollar stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut from October 2008 through December 2008 for about $2. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lights and return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

      Orbelle Cribs Sold in NY/NJ Area

      Orbelle Trade Inc. is recalling 7,700 Amber model cribs, which do not comply with crib safety standards due to a gap between the side rail and the crib mattress support, posing an entrapment hazard to infants.

      Several other models are also included in the recall because they do not included proper assembly instructions and warning labels rquired by law. If the cribs are not assembled properly they could pose an entrapment hazard to infants.

      The cribs included in this recall are the Daniella, Leeat, Noa, Naomi, Gabriella, Amber and Series 300 model cribs. The cribs are wood and come in a variety of painted and stained finishes including natural, cherry, blonde, or white wood. Some of the cribs have built-in storage drawers on the side of the crib or underneath the crib.

      The crib model name may be printed on the lower part of the headboard of each crib and the manufacturer name is printed on each set of crib warnings when they are provided.

      The cribs were sold at juvenile furniture stores in New York and New Jersey from January 2003 through August 2004 for between $135 and $335.

      If you own the Amber model crib, contact the firm to schedule an in-home repair or request a replacement crib. For all other model cribs, contact the firm to receive new assembly instructions and warning labels.

      Orbelle Cribs Sold in NY/NJ Area...

      Halcyon SCUBA Buoyancy Compensator (BC) Inflators

      September 2, 2004
      About 4,000 Halcyon SCUBA Buoyancy Compensator (BC) Inflators are being recalled. The SCUBA BC bladder can have a slow leak because of imperfections within the machining of the stainless air barrel of their inflators. This can cause unexpected buoyancy problems with divers, possibly resulting in decompression sickness.

      Halcyon has reports of 10 incidents of BCs leaking. No injuries or deaths have been reported.

      Halcyon is recalling all stainless steel power inflators. They have a stainless steel oral and power inflate button. Inflators made of plastic are not included in this recall. The repaired inflators have a groove at the base of their retainer nut. The BCs sold with these inflators are black and the Halcyon logo is on the front and collar of the BCs.

      Dive stores nationwide sold these inflators individually from October 2003 through May 2004 for about $46. The inflators also were sold as part of BC units ranging from $270 to $600.

      Consumers should stop using these BCs immediately and contact Halcyon for information on receiving a free repair.

      Halcyon SCUBA Buoyancy Compensator (BC) Inflators...

      HomeTech, Architectural Audio In-Wall Volume Controls

      Dana Innovations is recalling about 650 in-wall volume controls sold under the Archiectural Audio and HomeTech brand names. The amplifier in the keypad can overheat, posing a burn or fire hazard.

      Dana Innovations has received one report of overheating. There are no reports of injury or property damage.

      Sold under the brand names Architectural Audio and HomeTech, these in-wall volume controls were professionally installed as part of whole house audio systems. The switch plate covers for the recalled systems are white or almond, and aVc (amplified volume control) is imprinted above the volume control.

      They have the following model numbers:

      • Architectural Audio -- 20127 and 20128
      • HomeTech -- 10114 and 10115

      The model number is not visible to the consumer, and consumers are instructed not to remove the keypads from the wall to look for a model number. All serial numbers are included in the recall.

      The units were sold by custom installation dealers and through homebuilders nationwide from May 2003 through June 2005 for about $150.

      Consumers should turn off and stop using these amplified volume control keypads immediately, and contact Dana Innovations to arrange for a free replacement. Dana Innovations distributors are directly contacting consumers with the recalled systems.

      IBM ThinkPad Power Adapters

      IBM is recalling about 225,000 power adapters for its ThinkPad laptop computers. The adapters can overheat, cause damage to the circuit board and melt through the housing, which poses a fire and electrical shock hazard to consumers.

      IBM has received six reports of incidents, including some with minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

      The recalled 56W AC power adapters were shipped primarily with IBM ThinkPad i Series, 390 and 240 Series, and s Series notebook computers. The adapters have three hollow pins at the AC inlet and part number 02K6549 on a label on the top of the unit. The IBM logo appears on top of the unit. Adapters with solid pins are not included in this recall.

      Electronics and computer stores nationwide, the IBM Web site, phone orders, mail-order catalogs, and resellers sold the adapters with the ThinkPad computers from January 1999 through August 2000. The adapters also were sold as an accessory during that time for about $55.

      Consumers should unplug the recalled adapters from the wall outlet immediately and contact IBM for a free replacement unit.

      AA Importers is recalling about 5,200 toys, including the Push Along Frog, Animal Organ, and Rock & Roll Kids Guitar. The toys can easily break apart, exposing small parts. This poses a choking hazard to young children.

      The recall includes three toys: Push Along Frogs, Animal Organs, and Rock & Roll Kids Guitars. The Push Along Frog toy has a 9.5- inch green plastic frog attached to a 15-inch, red plastic handle. A sticker on the front of the toy reads Push Along Forg (sic).

      The electronic Animal Organ comes in four different styles, all about 11- inches long. The style number, written on the back of the toy begins with 666. The electronic guitars are about 14-inches long and have various colored buttons. ROCK & ROLL KIDS is written on stickers on the front. MADE IN CHINA is written on all three toys.

      The toys were sold at swap meets and flea markets in the Los Angeles area from July 2003 through October 2004 for about $3.

      Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from young children. Consumers should call the firm to get information on returning the toys to the importer for a refund and postage reimbursement.

      Big Save Baby Walker

      The Big Save International baby walker is being recalled.

      The walkers fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step. Additionally, these walkers can tip over. Babies using these walkers can be seriously injured or killed.

      There are no reports of injuries and roughly 12,000 of the walkers have been sold. The model numbers include 9026, 9028, 9090, 90110 and 90111. The model number is printed as the final digits on a bar code number and may appear on the front or back of the walker. Each walker has six caster wheels and comes in various colors light green, pink and blue.

      The walkers were sold at toy and juvenile product stores nationwide for between $15 and $25. Model 9026 walkers were sold from June 1998 through December 2002 and all other models were sold from December 2003 through December 2004.

      Purchasers are advised to stop using the recalled walkers immediately and return them to the retailer where purchased to receive a refund.

      Land of Nod Recalls Children's Wooden Chairs

      CPSC, The Land of Nod is recalling about 3,500 children's wooden chairs. The leg supports can crack, causing the chair to collapse. Children sitting in these chairs can fall.

      The Land of Nod has received three reports of the chairs collapsing, including one injury in which a child bumped her head.

      The childs round back (item #0409042) and straight back (item #0409102) wooden chairs have a lacquer painted finish in one of the following colors: red, light blue, dark blue, pale yellow or light green. They are about 26-inches high. Underneath the seat, there is a sticker that reads either Made in PROC or Made in China. No other writing is on the recalled chairs. The item number was used for ordering from the catalog or from the firms Web site, and is not written on the chairs. The chairs are intended for use by children 3 to 8 years old.

      The chairs were sold through the Land of Nod catalog and Web site nationwide, and the Land of Nod stores in Illinois and Washington between August 2002 and January 2004 for between $69 and $79.

      Consumers should stop using these chairs immediately and contact The Land of Nod for instructions on how to return these chairs. The company is offering an exchange, credit or refund. Those who choose an exchange for new chairs, and who respond before July 15, 2004, will receive an additional $50 gift certificate to be used toward a future purchase.

      Scatto Bicycle Wheel Quick Release

      Full Speed Ahead is recalling its Scatto bicycle wheel quick releases. An internal part in the lever mechanism can break, reducing clamping effectiveness and rendering the unit inoperable, potentially causing a bicyclist to fall.

      There have been 12 reports of the quick release mechanism failing, but no injuries have been reported.

      The Full Speed Ahead Scatto quick release was sold as standard equipment for RD-400 and XC-300 bicycle wheelsets and also separately. The levers are laser etched FSA and the end pieces have a distinctive round shape.

      Bike shops, catalogs, and Web sites sold the recalled quick releases nationwide from October 2003 through September 2004 for $49.95 per set.

      Scatto Bicycle Wheel Quick Release...

      West Bend Coffeemaker Carafes

      West Bend Housewares is recalling about 14,000 10-Cup Coffeemaker Carafes and Replacement Carafes/ The carafe handle can unexpectedly loosen or break, resulting in the carafe falling. This can cause burn injuries from hot coffee or lacerations from broken glass.

      West Bend Housewares has received 194 reports of the handles breaking, including three reports of consumers receiving burns to their hands and arms.

      The carafe is a 10-cup capacity glass pot with a black, plastic handle. It is used with the West Bend Housewares 10-cup Automatic Coffeemaker (item # 56870). The 10-cup replacement carafe was sold separately (item # 5815). There is a four-digit date code printed on the bottom of the coffeemaker. Date codes beginning with 04 are included in this recall.

      The items were sold at AAFES, Dillards, Bi-Mart and retail stores that sell housewares from July 2004 through July 2005 for about $32. The replacement carafe was sold separately for about $8.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled carafes immediately and contact West Bend Housewares to receive a replacement carafe free of charge.

      The Ebtek brand backpack with stool is being recalled becauase the stool could collapse and throw the user to the ground.

      It is a small, crossed leg, folding stool that stows in an outside pocket of the backpack. The stool has a metal frame and a fabric seat. This recall includes units manufactured between February 2004 and March 2004.

      The stools were sold at the Eddie Bauer Web site and catalog from April 2004 through June 2004 for about $100.

      Known purchasers have received notification of this recall via a recall notice letter. Consumers should stop using the stool and contact Eddie Bauer to arrange for postage paid return. They need only return the stool and may keep the backpack. Consumers will receive a full refund and an additional $20 gift certificate for their next purchase of merchandise from Eddie Bauer stores, catalog or Web site.

      Royal Appliance Co. is recalling about 20,000 Dirt Devil Sweeper Vac models.

      The vacuums rotor can lock and overheat during use. causing a smoke and fire hazard. No injuries or incidents have been reported.

      The Dirt Devil Sweeper Vac is a battery operated upright vacuum cleaner with Dirt Devil and Sweeper Vac printed on the front. The recall involves vacuum cleaners with the Model Number M083000 with the Plant Code J. The Model Number and Plant Code are printed on a silver plate located on the back of the product. Only vacuum cleaners manufactured in Plant Code J are included in this recall.

      The sweepers were sold at retailers nationwide from November 2003 through November 2004 for between $30 and $40.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact Dirt Devil to receive a free replacement.

      Playkids USA is recalling about 1,600 baby walkers. The walkers will fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step. Babies using these walkers can be seriously injured or killed if they fall down stairs.

      These baby walkers were sold under the brand name Playkids USA. They have model numbers PLK94STP, PLT95STP, PLK2000RC, PLK95, PLK94, PLK98STP, PLK2000 or PLK300 on the package and on a sewn-in label on the seat back. The plastic walkers have eight snap-in wheels, an activity tray with toy wheels, knobs and lights, and a padded fabric seat. They come in a variety of colors and seat fabrics. The sewn-in seat label also reads PLAYKIDS U.S.A. BROOKLYN, NY 11229 MADE IN TAIWAN.

      Small independent specialty juvenile retailers nationwide sold the baby walker from February 2003 through April 2004 for between $29 and $39.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled walkers immediately and contact PlayKids to receive a full refund.

      DEWALT Recalls Framing Nailers

      June 251, 2009

      DEWALT is recalling about 9,000 framing nailers, model numers D51825 and D51850.

      The bump action trigger on the framing nailers could have been incorrectly assembled during production, which would allow the nailer to eject a fastener unexpectedly or cause the trigger lock-off not to function.

      This can pose a serious injury hazard to the user or bystander.

      The nailers were sold by holesale distributors and retailers nationwide from January 2008 through September 2008 for about $280. They were made in Mexico.

      DEWALT Recalls Framing Nailers...

      Swing-N-Slide Swing Seats

      December 16, 2004
      The Swing-N-Slide Corp. is recalling about 72,000 extra-duty and heavy-duty swing seats. A manufacturing defect can cause the metal grommet securing the seat to break. If this happens, the user can fall to the ground.

      Swing-N-Slide has received five reports of the swings seat breaking. No injuries have been reported.

      Included in this recall are extra-duty and heavy-duty plastic Swing-N-Slide swing seats. Sold in either green (extra-duty) or yellow (heavy-duty), the seats are suspended from a crossbeam by two plastic-coated metal chains. On the bottom of each seat, in raised lettering, are the words, Swing-N-Slide Corp., 1212 Barberry Drive, Janesville, WI 53545, (800) 888-1232.

      Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, DIBC, TruServ, Handy Hardware and Emery-Waterhouse stores nationwide sold the seats from January 2004 through June 2004 for about $30.

      Consumers should take down the extra-duty and heavy-duty seats and contact Swing-N-Slide for information on how to return the swing for a replacement. The company will send consumers a postage-paid package to return the product.

      Meijer Recalls Children's Sweatshirts

      February 5, 2004
      Meijer Distribution is recalling about 18,000 children's sweatshirts. Hazard: The sweatshirts have drawstrings in the hood. Children can get entangled and strangle in the drawstrings that can catch on playground equipment, fences or tree branches.

      In February 1996, the Consumer Products Safety Commission issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings of upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. From January 1985 through January 1999, CPSC received reports of 22 deaths and 48 non-fatal incidents involving the entanglement of childrens clothing drawstrings.

      The fleece sweatshirts were sold in childrens sizes 4 18 under the brand name, "Emergency Exit." The sweatshirts were manufactured in a variety of colors including red, blue, grey and black. Each sweatshirt has an image on the chest of either, a tribal design, dragon, motocross or skateboarding pattern.

      The sweatshirts were sold at Meijer retail stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois from August 2003 and January 2004 for between $20 and $22.

      Consumers can return the sweatshirts to Meijer retailers for a full refund or consumers can remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard.
