    Girls' Hooded Sweatshirts Sold at Marshalls Recalled

    Girls' hooded sweatshirts imported by Rebelette International Trading Corp. and sold at Marshalls Stores are being recalled.

    The sweatshirt jackets have a drawstring through the hood which poses a strangulation hazard to children.

    The recalled hooded sweatshirts have a drawstring at the neck. They zip up the front, and are either blue with pink stripes on the sleeves with 'Red Hot Chili Steppers' printed on the front, or brown with blue stripes on the sleeves with 'Powder Puffs Touch League' on the front. The sweatshirts were sold in children's sizes small, medium, large, and sizes 4, 5, 6, and 6X. 'REBELETTE of Los Angeles' is printed on the collar label.

    The sweats were sold at Marshalls Stores and specialty children's clothing retailers nationwide from July 2007 through September 2007 for about $15. They were made in China.

    Consumers should immediately remove the drawstring from the hood to eliminate the hazard, or return the sweatshirt to either the place of purchase or to Rebelette International for a full refund.

    Kitchen Works Barbecue Lighters

    Arett Sales Corporation is recalling about 2 million multi-purpose barbecue lighters. Sold under the brand name Kitchen Works, the lighters lack child-resistant mechanisms that meet federal safety standards. Young children could operate these lighters which poses a fire hazard.

    Federal standards require multi-purpose lighters to have the same level of child- resistance as required in the safety standard for cigarette lighters. The child-resistant mechanism must operate safely, function for the expected life of the lighter, and not be easy to deactivate. The child- resistant mechanism also must automatically reset after each use.

    ASC has not received any reports of incidents or injuries involving these barbecue lighters.

    The recalled gas-fueled lighters have an orange or red plastic body, and a silver-colored metal nozzle. Each lighter measures 10 - inches long. The lighters were made in China.

    Dollar stores nationwide sold the barbecue lighters from January 2001 through July 2004 for about $1.

    Consumers should stop using the lighters immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of the lighters in a manner that is in compliance with all state and local requirements. Lighters should not be incinerated or punctured.

    'Young Colors' Children's Hoodies Recalled

    R&D International is recalling about 1,500 'Young Colors' children's hooded jackets because they have drawstrings through the hood and at the waist. Children can get entangled in the drawstrings that can catch on playground equipment, fences or tree branches.

    In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstring in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. From 1985 through June 2008, CPSC received reports of 27 deaths and 70 non-fatal incidents involving the entanglement of children's clothing drawstrings.

    The cotton knit and woven hooded jackets have a drawstring through the hood and waist. They were sold in sizes 12 months through size 10 in a variety of solid colors and prints. 'Young Colors' is sewn into the jacket tag located at the neck.

    The hoodies, made in Peru and Indonesia, were sold at specialty children's stores nationwide from April 2004 through September 2007 for about $45.

    Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the jacket to eliminate the safety hazard.

      Redcat Remote-Controlled Toy Racers Recalled

      Redcat Racing is recalling about 1,400 remote-controlled toy racers. The remote control unit can lose its signal, causing the toy vehicle to lose control, posing a risk of injury to the user or bystanders.

      Redcat Racing has received about 15 reports of remote control malfunctions. There have been no injuries reported.

      The recalled remote controls were included in the remote cars as shown below. These cars were sold in a variety of colors. The model name and numbers are located on the body of the vehicle or on the retail packaging:

      Baby Bjorn Balance, Air Bouncer Chairs Recalled

      BabySwede LLC is recalling about 6,500 BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance and BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance Air bouncer chairs. Small, sharp metal objects found in the padded area of the bouncer chair can protrude, posing a laceration hazard to children.

      The recall involves the BabyBjorn's Babysitter Balance and Babysitter Balance Air bouncers. These bouncing chairs for babies have a red safety latch on the height adjustment mechanism and a plastic footrest with the BabyBjorn logo. Recalled models and colors are:

      Consumers should immediately stop using both Babysitter Balance and Babysitter Balance Air bouncer chairs and contact BabySwede LLC for instructions on how to return the recalled products for inspection and relabeling. If any metal pieces are found through inspection, the consumer will be provided with a new BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance product.

      Target Recalls Jumbo Pencils with Sharpeners

      Target is recalling about 176,000 jumbo pencils with sharpeners. The sharpeners razor blade is exposed when the cover is removed. Also, the pencil sharpener hole is large enough to allow a finger to fit inside. This poses a laceration hazard to children and adults.

      Target has received 17 reports involving the pencil sharpeners, including 12 children and adults who received cuts to their fingers from the sharpeners razor blade.

      The jumbo pencil has a red eraser on the end and comes with a pencil sharpener. Pencils are either short, 8 inches long and one inch wide, or long, 15 inches long and inch wide. The pencils are blue, red or striped. The sharpeners are pink or blue and come in a clear plastic pouch. Model number 70505 is printed on the pouch.

      The devices were stold at Target stores nationwide from July 2005 through August 2005 for about $1.

      Consumers should take the recalled jumbo pencil with sharpeners away from children immediately and return them to the nearest Target store for a GiftCard of $1 plus applicable state tax.

      Rawlings Junior Batting Helmets Recalled

      About 2,300 Rawlings Junior Batting Helmets are being recalled. Surface paint on the helmets contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

      This recall involves junior batting helmets with model number CFHLJR. The helmets come in yellow and orange with black accents. The model number can be found on the rear of the helmet.

      The helmets were sold by sporting goods retailers nationwide from July 2007 through November 2007 for about $40. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact either the retailer where the product was purchased or Rawlings for a free replacement product.

      Trek Recalls Bicycles

      May 19, 2009

      Trek is recalling about 16,000 bicycles. The fork can lose alignment causing the front wheel to turn unexpectedly. This can cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle and crash.

      There have been four reports of misaligned forks. No injuries have been reported.

      The recall involves model year 2009 Trek 7300, 7300WSD, and 7500 bicycles. The model name is printed on the bicycle's frame. The bicycles have a suspension fork with the words "Bontrager SPA" printed on them.

      The bicycles were sold at Trek bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2008 through April 2009 for between $640 and $940.

      Consumers should stop riding the recalled bicycles immediately and contact their dealer to arrange for a free repair.

      Trek Recalls Bicycles...

      KYMCO ATVs Recalled

      January 2, 2008
      About 1,350 KYMCO/MXU all-terrain vehicles are being recalled. The pivot bolts holding the rear suspension onto the frame can become loose, causing the rear swing arm to detach from the chassis posing a risk of injury or death to the operator.

      KYMCO has received six reports of incidents, including two reports of minor injuries.

      This recall involves all model year 2006-2008 MXU 500 ATVs. The vehicle is identified by a label on the front as KYMCO and the model is determined by a label located on each side of the fuel tank as MXU 500.

      The ATVs were sold by KYMCO dealers nationwide from November 2006 through December 2007 for between $6,000 and $6,500. They were made in Taiwan.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact an authorized KYMCO dealer in their area to schedule a free repair. Registered owners were sent direct mail notification of this recall.

      Engine Fires Prompt Probe of DaimlerChrysler, Kia Vehicles

      July 5, 2005
      Complaints of engine fires have prompted a safety investigation that could lead to the recall of about 353,000 DaimlerChrysler and Kia Motor Co. vehicles.

      The National Highway traffic Safety Administration launched the defect investigation as a result of reports that include about 300,000 of Chrysler's 1999 and 2000 Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Cirrus and Plymouth Breeze cars and 52,824 of Kia's 2003 Sedona minivans.

      The agency has it received 24 complaints of fires in the Chrysler cars and five in the Kia vans, with no accidents or injuries.

      A defect investigation is a preliminary evaluation and the initial step in the Washington-based agency's process. About 20% of such inquiries advance, and the rest are closed with a finding of no defect. Investigations that are upgraded lead to recalls about 70% of the time, according to NHTSA.

      Cooks Essentials Deep Fryers Recalled

      Euro-Pro and QVC are recalling about 1,600 Cooks Essentials Deep Fryers. The fryers can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

      The recalled fryers include QVC Cook Essentials 3 Liter Stainless Steel Deep Fryers with three baskets. The fryers were sold as item number K14942. Model number F1053Q is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the fryers.

      The fryers, made in China, were sold through QVC's televised shopping programs and its Web site from April 2008 through May 2008 for about $60 including shipping costs.

      Known purchasers were mailed instructions on obtaining a full refund. Consumers who have not received instructions should contact QVC for refund instructions.

      Tricam Industries is recalling about 15,000 little red wagons. Surface paint on the wagon bucket contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

      This recall involves the red metal wagon model MH1250. The wagon has a red steel bucket, a black handle, a black steel axle support, and black tires.

      The wagons were sold at Tractor Supply Company stores nationwide from September 2002 through November 2007 for about $30. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately take the recalled wagon away from children and contact Tricam Industries for instructions on how to return the wagon and obtain a refund.

      The Wick & Petal Co. Recalls Candles

      The Wick & Petal Co. is recalling about 1,300 jar candles. The candles can burn with a high flame, posing a fire hazard.

      Wick & Petal has received seven reports of the candles burning with high flame, some resulting in minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

      This recall involves all Wick & Petal jar candles. The candles have a cylindrical shape and a chrome lid. The lid has a white label with a picture of the fragrance, the fragrance name, and 'Wick & Petal Co.' printed on it.

      The candles were sold at select candle retailers and craft fairs in Indiana from October 2007 through December 2007 for between $8 and $18. They were made in the U.S.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled candles and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

      GN Wireless Headset Batteries Recalled

      GN Netcom is recalling about 525,000 GN9120 wireless headsets. An internal short circuit can cause the lithium-ion polymer batteries to overheat, posing a fire hazard. Besides the U.S. recall, another 675,000 headsets were sold outside the U.S.

      GN Netcom has received 10 reports of incidents involving overheating, including three reports of open flames and property damage to furniture on which the headsets were resting. An additional 37 reports of overheating, three reports of open flames and one report of second degree burns, requiring medical attention, was received outside the U.S.

      This recall involves GN9120 wireless headsets with ATL lithium-ion polymer batteries. The headsets are intended primarily for professional use in offices and call centers. The product is sold with three components: a base station, headset and power adapter. "GN Netcom" or "GN9120" is printed on the base station and headset. The affected batteries have part number 603028 and have a white plastic enclosure. The batteries are labeled "Made by ATL (Amperex Technology Ltd.)" and "(ATL P/N 603028)." Batteries sold as a replacement part are labeled "GN9120 battery replacement kit."

      The headsets were sold by GN Netcom, authorized distributors and resellers nationwide from January 2005 through September 2008 for between $150 and $350 as part of the GN9120 headset and about $20 as a replacement part. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled headsets. Consumers should contact GN Netcom to receive a replacement battery.

      Casper the Ghost Figurines Recalled

      About 14,000 Casper the Friendly Ghost Halloween mini-figurines are being recalled. They contain high levels of lead in the paint.

      The figurines are made of resin and paper, and are three inches tall. They were sold in mini bags decorated with a spider and web design. The Casper the Friendly Ghost figurines are dressed as: Dracula in a red spider bag, Skeleton in a green spider bag, Devil in a purple spider bag, Mummy in an orange spider bag, Casper in a blue spider bag, and Wendy the Witch is in a yellow spider bag. The figurines are stamped with TM & Harvey Ent. 'Coyne's & Company' and 'CP1030' are printed on a white sticker on the bottom of the bags.

      Gift, specialty, card, and drug stores nationwide sold the figurines from June 2005 through September 2008 for between $1 and $3. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately take the recalled figurines away from children and contact Coyne's & Company to receive a full refund or credit.

      Studio RTA TV Stands Recalled

      Studio RTA is recalling about 48,600 TV stands. The stability of the stands does not meet industry standards to prevent TV tip-over, posing a risk of injury or death to consumers.

      This recall involves four different TV stand models. Model numbers are printed on the packaging and instruction's sheet.

      • 'E Series' Model 060331: The product consists of two glass shelves, a lower shelf made of metal, and black leg and frame components.

      • 'Fierro' Model 402875: This product was sold exclusively by Best Buy. The product consists of three glass shelves with black leg and frame components.

      • 'Madison DLP' Model 060176: The product consists of three glass shelves with dark wood grain finish frame components, black legs, and a black fiberboard back panel.

      • 'Madison 3000' Model 060090: The product consists of three glass shelves with dark wood grain finish frame components, black legs, and a metal mesh back panel.

      The stands were sold by Best Buy (model 402875) and other retailers nationwide from May 2004 through August 2008 for about between $220 and $260. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately remove the TV from the stand and contact Studio RTA to receive a free repair kit.

      NHTSA Probes Ford Truck Seat Belts

      The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation of seat belt failures on 2001 Ford F-Series full-size pickups, Windstar minivans and other vehicles.

      The investigation could lead to the recall of about a million Ford trucks, including hundreds of thousands recently recalled because of a fire hazard in their cruise-control mechanism.

      NHTSA cited more than 10,000 warranty claims involving buckles that continued to fail after they were repaired under a 2001 recall.

      NHTSA is also probing reported stalling problems in F-Series pickups with six-liter engines. The F-Series trucks are the nation's best-selling vehicle line.

      Bassettbaby Drop-Side Cribs Recalled

      Cobra Electronics is recalling about 8,000 children's two-way radios sold at Toys 'R' Us stores. The rechargeable batteries in the radios can leak electrolyte, posing a chemical burn hazard to consumers.

      The recall involves two-way radios with the 300 mah 'CEL' batteries. The walkie talkie style radios are made of pink plastic and come in purple packaging. Product number PR191-2VP is located on the front of the packaging and on the label inside the battery compartment. The batteries are standard AAA Nickle Metal Hydride battery cells with a black wrapper with the battery name 300 mah (CEL) with the date code (TF or RF) on the battery itself.

      The radios, made in China, were sold by Toys 'R' Us Stores nationwide from August 2008 through September 2008 for about $30.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the two-way radios and contact the company for a free replacement and a 20% off coupon for a future purchase at www.cobra.com. If batteries have leaked on to the radio, do not touch the liquid, and contact the company for a free replacement product.

      Belkin Bluetooth GPS Navigation System Batteries

      Belkin is recalling about 10,000 Li-Polymer batterys pack sold with its Bluetooth Global Positioning System (GPS) Navigation System. The battery can overheat, expand, and possibly rupture, creating an explosion or fire hazard.

      Belkin reports 15 incidents of batteries overheating and expanding. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

      The recall involves Li-Polymer battery packs sold with Belkin Bluetooth GPS Navigation System models F8T051 and F8T051-DL. The GPS model number can be found on a label on the bottom of the unit. Part No.: 300-203712001 and Model No.: AE-8210 are written on the side of the battery.

      The Belkin Web site, other Web retailers and computer and electronics stores sold the GPS device with recalled batteries nationwide from November 2003 through February 2005 for about $400.

      Consumers stop using the GPS product immediately and contact Belkin for information on receiving a free replacement battery.

      Battery-Biz Laptop Batteries

      Battery-Biz is recalling about 10,000 Hi-Capacity rechargeable notebook computer batteries. An internal short can cause the battery cells to overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

      Battery-Biz has received six reports of batteries overheating and melting.

      The recalled lithium ion, Hi-Capacity brand rechargeable batteries are used with various well-known, brand-name notebook computers.       The batteries were sold through various national and regional resellers, retail stores and online stores from January 2004 through May 2005 for between $70 and $199.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled batteries immediately and contact Battery-Biz to arrange for a replacement battery, free of charge. After removing the recalled battery from their notebook computer, consumers can continue to use the computer with the AC power adapter until a replacement battery arrives.
