    BMW Motorcycle Recall

    The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling 5,195 BMW motorcycles because the anti-lock braking system may fail under rapid, repeated and unusually harsh braking.

    NTSA reports that the failure can result in a temporary loss of ABS capability increasing the risk of a crash.

    BMW motorcycle dealers will add a banjo bolt with a flow restrictor to the brake line and on some models will install a new front brake disc that is slightly thicker.

    The repairs are free of charge. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.

    SunTome Recalls Baby Walkers

    Feb. 2, 2006
    SunTome Trading Corp. is recalling about 600 baby walkers. The walkers can fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step. Babies using these walkers can be seriously injured or killed.

    The company originally recalled these baby walkers on July 20, 2001.

    The recalled walkers have eight wheels and are sold in various colors including dark blue, pink and white, or pink and red. The activity trays on the baby walkers have a steering wheel, various rattles and a mirror or animal themes. The trays play music when the baby pushes a button. Baby is printed on a sticker on the tray or the walkers base.

    The walkers were sold at retail toy stores nationwide from March 2001 through January 2006 for about $20.

    Consumers should stop using the recalled walkers immediately and return the walkers to the retailer where purchased for a full refund.

    Lenovo, IBM Recall ThinkPad Notebook Batteries

    Lenovo and IBM are recalling about 168,500 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries used in ThinkPad notebook computers sold in the U.S. An addition 357,500 were sold worldwide.

    The lithium-ion batteries, manufactured by Sony Corp., can cause overheating, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

    Lenovo has received one confirmed report of a battery overheating and causing a fire that damaged the notebook computer. The incident, which occurred within an airport terminal as the user was boarding an airplane, caused enough smoking and sparking that a fire extinguisher was used to put it out. There was minor property damage and no injuries were reported.

    The recalled lithium-ion batteries were sold with or sold separately to be used with the following ThinkPad notebook computers: T Series (T43, T43p, T60); R Series (R51e, R52, R60, R60e); and X Series (X60, X60s). The recalled batteries have the following part or model numbers, which can be found on the battery label:

    The batteries were sold through Lenovo and IBM's Web sites, telephone and direct sales, and Lenovo and IBM authorized distributors between February 2005 and September 2006 as an accessory for between $150 and $180 and as part of a ThinkPad notebook computer for between $750 and $3500.

    Consumers should stop using the recalled batteries immediately and contact Lenovo to receive a replacement battery, free-of-charge. Until a replacement battery arrives, consumers can continue to use their computer by turning off the system, removing the battery, and plugging in the AC adapter and power cord. Consumers should use only genuine ThinkPad batteries obtained from either Lenovo or an authorized reseller.

      "Baby 2 Pack" Pacifiers Recalled

      Kole Imports is recalling about 3,600 "Baby 2 Pack" pacifiers. The pacifiers nipple can easily detach from the guard, posing a serious choking hazard to young children.

      The recalled pacifiers are rubber nipples attached to a white or light blue plastic guard. The cardboard packaging has a picture of a baby, some toy blocks, a toy train engine and a diaper pin with a bear on it. The pacifiers are sold in packs of two. Writing on the front of the packaging includes, "Baby," "2 pack Pacifiers" and "BI194." The back of the packaging has an American flag and the writing, "AN AMERICAN COMPANY."

      The pacifiers were sold at discount dollar stores nationwide from August 2005 through March 2006 for about $1.

      Consumers should take the recalled pacifiers away from babies immediately and contact the retailer where they purchased the pacifiers or KI for a full refund.

      'Baby 2 Pack' Pacifiers Recalled...

      Eton Portable Radios

      About 1,700 Etn portable radios are being recalled. The battery in this radio can overheat and possibly rupture when using the AC adapter, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

      Incidents/Injuries: Etn has received one report of a battery overheating. No injuries have been reported.

      The E1XM-model AM/FM/SW/XM-ready radios that are included in the recall have serial numbers from 3,067 through 5,642. The serial number is listed underneath the flap on the back of the unit. The Etn logo is located on the bottom left-hand corner of the unit. The XM radio logo and "e1" are written in the upper right corner of the radio. The unit is silver, and measures about 13-inches wide by 7.5-inches high by 2.5-inches deep.

      The radios were sold by electronic stores and catalog, and on-line retailers from November 2004 through February 2006 for about $500.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled radios immediately, and call Etn Corp. for a refund or replacement product.

      RedMax Backpack Blower

      About 170,000 gas-powered RedMax Backpack Blowers are being recalled because of a fire hazard.

      The muffler support bracket can break, creating an opening in the muffler body. Hot exhaust gases can then escape from the muffler and could melt the fuel tank or ignite grease, oil or debris around the fuel tank, posing a fire hazard.

      RedMax has received five reports of units that have caught fire when hot exhaust gases from damaged mufflers ignited grease, oil or debris around the area of the fuel tank. No injuries have been reported.

      The RedMax gasoline-powered backpack blowers are red and black with a white fuel tank. Model numbers EB6200, EB7000, EB7001, and EB7001RH can be found on the body of the blowers along with "RedMax," "Zenoah," and "Komatsu."

      The blowers were sold by RedMax dealers nationwide from December 1996 through December 2005 for about $530.

      Consumers should stop using the backpack blowers immediately and contact RedMax for a dealer location nearest to them to schedule a free inspection and a free repair if necessary. Consumers who have registered their equipment will receive direct notification about this recall from RedMax.

      Strike First Fire Extinguishers Recalled

      SFC America is recalling about 50,900 Strike First dry chemical fire extinguishers. The fire extinguishers can fail to discharge properly when the trigger is activated, which puts consumers at risk of fire-related injuries.

      SFC America has received three reports of the fire extinguishers failing to discharge properly when activated. No injuries have been reported.

      The recall includes Strike First 2.5 lb and 5 lb dry chemical fire extinguishers with model numbers WBSF-ABC110AP, WBSF-ABC210AP, and WBSF-ABC340AP. The model number is located under the manufacturers address on the far right hand side of the instruction label. The recalled fire extinguishers have the following serial numbers:

      Strike First Fire Extinguishers Recalled...

      Hurley Windbreaker Jackets

      January 12, 2006
      Hurley International is recalling about 330 boy's windbreaker jackets with drawstrings. The jackets have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children.

      In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings of upper garments such as jackets and sweatshirts.

      The recalled jackets are black or gray, and were sold in youth sizes up to size 20. "HurleyCo" is stitched on the upper left outside of the jacket. The style number BJ06GS is printed on a label sewn inside the left side seam of the jacket.

      The jackets were sold at various department and specialty stores nationwide from July through early December, 2005 for about between $50 and $60.

      Consumers should remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard.

      Little Tikes Toy Flashlights Recalled

      The Little Tikes Co. is recalling animal-shaped toy flashlights sold at Target, because they are painted with lead-based paint.

      About 20,800 of the Glowin' Dino and Glowin' Doggy flashlights were sold at Target stores nationwide from November 2005 through December 2005 for about $10.

      The light green paint on the dinosaur-shaped flashlight and the brown paint on the dog-shaped flashlight could contain excess levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

      The Glowin' Dino Flashlight and the Glowin' Doggy Flashlight are about 9-inches long and make an electronic sound when switched on. The green dinosaur roars, and the white and brown dog barks. Only flashlights with the following date codes are in included in the recall: LC5H161, LC5H291, LC5I031, LC5I091, LC5I131, LC5J061, LC5J231, and LC5J311.

      The date codes are found on the bottom of the flashlights. Units that do not contain these codes or other animal flashlight characters made by The Little Tikes Co. are not included in this recall. Also, units that have an R at the end of the date code are not included in the recall.

      Consumers should immediately take the recalled flashlights away from young children and contact Little Tikes for more information. Consumers will get a free replacement flashlight or refund.

      Dodge Dakota, Dodge Ram, Mitsubishi Raider Recall

      DaimlerChrysler AG is recalling 39,274 2006 model-year Dodge Dakota, Dodge Ram and Mitsubishi Raider pickups because the rear brakes in some of the trucks, equipped with four-wheel anti-lock brake systems, could lock up prematurely, according to NHTSA.

      Dealers will replace the ABS electronic control unit when the recall begins. Owners may contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-14

      Wild Planet Pool Toys Recalled

      August 30, 2006
      Wild Planet Toys is recalling about 273,000 of its "Jet Streamers" water blasters pool toys. When partially filled with water, the pool toy can stand upright on the pool floor with the rigid narrow end pointed upward, posing an impalement risk.

      Wild Planet has received one report of an impalement injury to an 8-year-old girl who landed seat first onto a Jet Streamer left in a swimming pool and received a puncture wound.

      The "Jet Streamers Outdoor Antics! Pump-Action Water Blasters" are straight squirt guns for the pool. The Jet Streamers measure 9-inches long with a bulbous water reservoir at one end and a rigid tapering handle containing a small water intake hole at the other end. The tapering handle is gray while the bulbous water reservoir varies in colors of white/green, blue/yellow and orange/silver. Tiny raised lettering on the Jet Streamers' handles state, "2002 Wild Planet Toys, San Francisco, CA, USA, Made in China."

      The toys were sold as a 2-pack set, in packages with other pool toys, such as dive balls and magnet dive gloves, and with boys' swim trunks. The product packaging is labeled "Jet Streamers," "Wild Planet" and is for children ages five and older.

      The toys were sold by Target, Kohl's, internet retailers, discount department stores and toy stores nationwide from February 2003 through August 2006 for between $6 and $13 a set.

      Customers should immediately stop using the Jet Streamers and contact Wild Planet for a replacement product. The replacement product has an angled handle that prevents the handle of the toy from standing upright.

      Metal Charms Recalled for Lead Poisoning Hazard to Children

      Provo Craft & Novelty Inc. is recalling about 29,000 "Art Accentz Changlz" metal charms. The recalled charms contain high levels of lead, posing a serious risk of lead poisoning and adverse health effects to young children.

      The charms are small silver-colored metal shapes that include flowers, bugs, pumpkins, and picture frames. "Art Accentz," "Changlz," "Provo Craft," and "For ages 3 and over" are printed on the charms packaging. The charms were sold as decorations for craft projects such as scrapbooks, home dcor and jewelry making.

      The charms were sold at small craft and scrapbook retails outlets from April 2004 through July 2005, and at Pamida Stores from January 2005 through April 2005, for about $3.

      Consumers should immediately take the charms away from children and ensure any charms being used are not accessible to children. Call Provo Craft for a full refund.

      IQ Baby, Discovery Channel Toy Vehicles Recalled

      July 6, 2006
      Small World Toys is recalling about 92,000 toy vehicles because of a choking hazard. The recalled toys include the IQ Baby Pillow Soft Activity Blocks, IQ Baby Travelin' Train Blocks, IQ Baby Vroom Vroom Vehicles and Discovery Channel Vroom Vroom Vehicles.

      The plastic wheels on the toys can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

      Small World Toys has received 11 reports of incidents in which a wheel detached from one of these toys. No injuries have been reported.

      IQ Baby Pillow Soft Activity Blocks are a set of 19 foam, cloth-covered blocks of various shapes with a plastic carrying case. Two of the blocks are car-shaped and have four 1-inch diameter plastic wheels with a black and white bull's eye pattern. Some cars have tags or labels that say "IQ Baby."

      IQ Baby Travelin' Train Blocks are a set of four brightly patterned stuffed cloth-covered vehicles, an engine and three cars that attach to each other with Velcro connectors. Each piece is about 4-inches long, 2-inches wide, and 3-inches tall, and has four 1-inch diameter plastic wheels with a black and white spoke pattern. Some pieces have tags or labels that say "IQ Baby."

      IQ Baby and Discovery Channel Vroom Vroom Vehicles are sets of six soft, stuffed, brightly colored trucks that come in a plastic carrying case. Each truck is about 5 inches long, 3 inches tall, and 2-inches wide and has four 1-inch diameter plastic wheels with a black and white bull's eye pattern. Some of the trucks in the sets have labels that read "IQ Baby" or "Discovery Channel."

      The items were sold at toy stores and various retailers nationwide, as well as through catalogues. The Discovery Channel Vroom Vroom Vehicles were sold at Discovery Channel stores nationwide and online. IQ Baby Pillow Soft Activity Blocks were sold from March 2005 through May 2006 for about $40. The Travelin Train Blocks were sold from July 2005 through May 2006 for about $20. The Vroom Vroom Vehicles were sold from January 2003 through May 2006 for about $25.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled toy vehicles immediately and contact Small World Toys for information on how to obtain a free replacement toy.

      IQ Baby, Discovery Channel Toy Vehicles Recalled...

      Warn ATV Winch Kits Recalled

      Warn Industries Inc. is recalling about 218,000 ATV and utility vehicle winch kits. A component of the winch kit, the eight-post contactor, can continue to pull current when in the "off" position, which can cause it to overheat and pose a fire hazard.

      Warn Industries has received one report of a contactor failure resulting in excessive heat and melting damage to the contactor. No injuries were reported.

      This recall involves eight-post contactors used on certain 2,500 to 3,500 lb Warn ATV and Utility Vehicle Winch Kits. The black contactors were sold as a part of winch kits and have a "WARN" logo on the top and bottom of the contactor. Warn part number 62135 is printed on the bottom. Contactors are found on the vehicle attached to the power wires, between the battery and the winch. The contactor has four holes for securing it to the vehicle. A complete listing of winch kit part numbers involved in this recall can be found at www.warn.com.

      The kits were sold by ATV dealers, ATV accessory retailers, mail order catalogs, and Web retailers nationwide from May 2001 through September 2005 for $700.

      Consumers with winch kits containing these eight-post contactors should immediately disconnect the contactor wires from the battery and contact Warn Industries or their local dealer for a free replacement contactor.

      Gildan Activewear Hooded Sweatshirts

      September 20, 2006
      Gildan Activewear is recalling about 114,000 hooded sweatshirts. The sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children, in violation of federal safety standards.

      The fleece sweatshirts were sold in youth sizes Extra Small to Extra Large, and have a "Gildan Activewear" neck label. The sweatshirts were manufactured in 12 different colors. These sweatshirts are often used by local print shops to add logos and sportswear decals.

      The sweatshirts were sold by wholesale distributors and applicable sportswear programs nationwide from January 2006 through September 2006. Retail cost between $13 and $20.

      Consumers should remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard.

      Amana Gas Ranges Recalled

      WASHINGTON, August 19, 1999 --  Amana Appliances is recalling about 5,000 gas-fueled, down-draft ranges.

      The oven locking mechanism could unlock prematurely during the self-clean cycle, allowing the oven door to be opened.Burn injuries are possible to consumers if they are exposed to high oven temperatures.

      Amana has received no reports of injuries with these ranges. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. 

      These Amana gas ranges havemodel numbers AGDS901E and AGDS901WW located on the left side of the range below the oven and behind the utility drawer. The ranges are gas-fueled, freestanding models. The top cooking surface has two gas burners on the left side, a gas grill on the right side and the down draft vent in between. The ranges come in either in black or white. The name, "Amana" is written above the clock of these ranges.

      Major department and appliance stores sold the gas ranges nationwide from October 1995 to July 1999 for between $1,500 and $1,600. 

      Consumers with these ranges should not use the self-cleaning feature, but can continue to use their ranges for cooking. Consumers should immediately contact Amana to arrange a free service call to replace the self-clean locking mechanism.

      Suzuki Recalls...

      Manco & Sunright Go-Karts Recalled

      March 2, 2006
      Manco and Sunright go-karts are being recalled. The throttle can fail and not return the vehicle to idle speed, posing a loss of control hazard to the driver.

      Sunright International and Manco Power Sports Inc. have received three reports of incidents in which the throttle did not return to idle speed, though no injuries have been reported.

      The recall involves two-seat go-karts, Manco Blazer model 1050L-09 and Sunright International model RTV50-SK50, equipped with a 49 cc engine and an electric start. The go-karts were produced in several colors including red, green, blue, and yellow.

      The VIN number on the Manco go-karts is attached to the frame behind the seat back cushion. The VIN number on the Sunright go-karts is stamped on the side of the engine. The recalled go-karts contain one of the following VIN numbers:

      • Manco: 1095292 through 1099782
      • Sunright: 04100017 through 05100771

      Manco go-karts were sold at retailers nationwide from November 2005 through December 2005 for about $900. Sunright go-karts were sold at other retailers in Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas from August 2005 through November 2005 from $900 to $1100.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled go-karts immediately. Registered owners of the vehicles will be notified directly by Manco or Sunright. To schedule a free repair, consumers should call or visit the retail location where the go-karts were purchased.

      Manco & Sunright Go-Karts Recalled...

      John Deere Blower Vacuums Recalled


      WASHINGTON, April 11 -- John Deere Consumer Products is voluntarily recalling about 200,000 Homelite handheld power blowers/vacuums. The fuel line location can cause it to contact the edge of the engine shroud, causing the line to prematurely wear. This can result in a gasoline leak, presenting a fire hazard and causing burn injuries to consumers.

      John Deere Consumer Products has received two reports of the fuel line leaking from these power blowers/vacuums. There have been no reports of fires or injuries, according to Deere and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

      Home center and hardware stores including the Home Depot, Eagle Hardware and Ace Hardware, sold these blowers/vacuums nationwide from August 1998 through January 2000 for about $150.

      The front passenger seat in the 2003 and 2004 Grand Cherokee SUVs can become a smoldering hot seat and even catch fire becuase of a fautly seat warmer.

      The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling 111,687 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from the 2003 and 2004 model years equipped with heated seats.

      The heating element in the passenger seat to over heat and that might cause a fire, according to NHTSA.

      The recall will begin in July and in the meantime owners may contact Daimler Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
