    Ms. Bubbles Recalls Girls' Hooded Jackets

    January 6, 2009
    Ms. Bubbles Inc. is recalling about 55,000 girls' hooded blue denim passport jackets. The jackets have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to children.

    The recalled blue denim jackets have a white terrycloth underlay lining and drawstring. The jackets were sold in childrens sizes medium (7-10), large (11-14) and x-large (15-16). Style number BF1400 KP is printed on the hang tag attached to the garment.

    The jackets were sold by T.J. Maxx, J.C. Penney, and Forman Mills stores nationwide from August 2007 through December 2007 for about $10. They were made in China.

    Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard, or return the garment to either the place of purchase or to Ms. Bubbles Inc. to receive a refund.

    Battat Drumsticks Sold with Toy Drum Sets Recalled

    April 17, 2003

    Battat Incorporated is voluntarily recalling about 300,000 sets of toy drumsticks sold with the Parents Bee Bop Band drum sets. The end piece of the drumstick handle can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children. Additionally, the screw at the end of the drumstick can loosen and detach, posing a choking hazard.

    Battat and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have received about 240 reports of drumsticks breaking and children mouthing the small pieces, including one report of a child who began to choke.

    The centipede-shaped drumsticks were sold with the Parents Bee Bop Band drum set. They're about 10-inches long and were sold in either lime green or blue with black stripes. Model numbers involved in this recall are PM9137T2 and PM91372. The model numbers can be found above the UPC code on the packaging.

    Target, Sam's Club and smaller retailers sold the Parents Bee Bop Band drum sets nationwide from November 2001 through March 2003 for about $25.

    Consumers should immediately take these drumsticks away from young children and contact Battat for a replacement set of drumsticks.     Easton Sports Recalls Bicycles With EA30 Stems

    Easton Sports is recalling bicycles with EA30 stems. The stem can crack and cause the rider to lose control, posing a risk of serious injury if the rider falls.

    This recall involves all Raleigh 2007, XXIX 700c MTN, RX1.0, Diamondback 2007, Mission, and Sortie bicycles with EA30 stems. The EA30 stems are black with white-and-gray graphics and feature a four-bolt stem face cap.'EA30' is printed on the stem. EA30 stems sold as aftermarket items are included in this recall.

    The bicycles were sold through independent bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2007 through August 2009 for between $500 and $1,200. Aftermarket stems were sold from August 2007 through September 2009 for about $30. They were made in China.

    Consumers should immediately stop riding the bicycles and contact any authorized Easton Sports for a free replacement stem.

      Copco Harmony Tea Kettles Recalled

      Wilton Industries is recalling about 142,000 Copco Harmony tea kettles. The lid on the tea kettle can come loose during handling, posing a burn hazard to the consumer.

      The firm is aware of 25 incidents of the lid coming loose. Second-degree burns to hands and fingers have been reported.

      This recall involves the Copco Harmony tea kettles. The kettles come in stainless steel brushed and polished finishes and enamel finishes in red, white, black, turquoise, orange, yellow and blue. Copco tea kettles in other styles are not included in the recall.

      The tea kettles, made in China and Thailand, were sold by retailers nationwide from March 2006 through June 2009 for about $30.

      Consumers should immediately stop using these tea kettles. If the consumer has a stainless tea kettle, contact Wilton for a free replacement lid. If the consumer has an enamel tea kettle, contact Wilton for a free replacement tea kettle or a refund.

      Crosman Air Rifles Recall

      October 2, 2003

      Crosman Corporation is voluntarily recalling about 1,500 spring-piston, break-action air rifles. The air rifles can discharge unexpectedly when the user closes the barrel, posing a serious risk of injury to consumers and bystanders.

      Crosman Corporation has received one report of an air rifle unexpectedly firing, though no injuries have been reported.

      The recalled break-action, spring air rifles include Crosman Model numbers RM177, RM177X, RM677, RM677X, RM877 and RM622 that were produced before August 2001. Models produced after that time are not included in this recall.

      The recalled air rifles have brown wood stocks, black barrels, and blue and white striped spacers on the butt plate. The RM622 shoots .22 caliber airgun pellets; the other models shoot .177 caliber airgun pellets. The RM177X and RM677X were sold with scopes. Each barrel is imprinted with the model number and the words, "Manufactured for Crosman Corp. by Mendoza."

      Authorized dealers, gun shops and sporting goods dealers nationwide sold the air rifles from June 2001 through August 2001 for between $130 and $250.

      Consumers should stop using these air rifles immediately and contact Crosman Corporation at (800) 724-7486 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for instructions on returning the rifle for a free repair or replacement with a comparable model. Crosman will reimburse consumers for the cost of shipping. Consumers also can log on to the company's Web site at www.crosman.com to view safety and recall information posted since September 2001.

      Craftsman Lawn Tractors Recalled

      Husqvarna is recalling about 8,200 Craftsman lawn tractors. The tractors parking brake can fail posing a loss of control hazard.

      The recalled tractor is gray colored, has 19.5 HP engine, automatic drive, and a 42 inch cutting deck. The following model and serial numbers are included in the recall. The model and serial numbers are located on a model plate under the tractors seat.

      The tractors, made in the U.S., were sold by Sears and Kmart stores nationwide and on the Web at www.sears.com from January 2009 through April 2009 for about $1,200.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled tractors immediately and contact Sears for a free inspection at your home and, if necessary, a free repair of the parking brake cable. Sears is directly contacting consumers who purchased this product.

      Timberland Recalls Childrens Boots

      Timberland is recalling about 21,000 pairs of childrens work boots. The logo stamped onto the insoles contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

      This recall involves children's Timberland 6 Classic Scuffproof boots. The boots are wheat-colored leather and were sold in toddler size 4 through junior size 7. Model and manufacturer/date code numbers included in this recall are listed below. The model and manufacturer date code numbers are printed below the size on a white tag inside the boots.

      The boots were sold at shoe stores and specialty retailers nationwide from June 2009 through October 2009 for between $50 and $70. They were made in Thailand.

      Weed Cutting Blades Recalled

      May 29, 2003

      Conceptual Marketing & Development Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 1.1 million metal blades for their model 4650 weed cutting attachment. The blades can break off and hit consumers causing severe impact and laceration injuries.

      There have been 16 reports of blades breaking, resulting in 12 injuries, ranging from lacerations requiring stitches to tendon and bone injuries.

      Only cast aluminum metal alloy blades are included in the recall. The blades measure 1/4 inch thick, 1 inch wide and 4 inches long, and are a dull silver color. Blades that are either smooth on the bottom or have ridges are included in the recall. All of the blades were made in the U.S.A.

      Home improvement and hardware stores nationwide sold the blades with the weed cutting attachments, or separately as replacements, from November 1999 through December 2001.The model 4650 weed cutter with blades sold for about $15 and a set of three replacement blades sold for about $6.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled blades immediately and contact CMD for free replacements. Consumers can contact CMD at (800) 210-9949 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.

      Weed Cutting Blades Recalled...

      Lutron Recalls Roller Shades

      August 26, 2009
      Lutron is recalling about 245,000 sets of roller shades because they pose a risk of strangulation to infants and children.

      Strangulations can occur if the shades looped bead chain is not attached to the wall or the floor and a childs neck becomes entangled on the free-standing loop. No injuries have been reported.

      This recall involves custom-ordered made-to-measure manual roller shades. The shades were sold in a variety of colors, fabrics, and sizes. They have a label on an adhesive strip that connects the shade fabric to the roller tube that reads Lutron Shading Solutions and 800-446-1503. The shade needs to be removed from the brackets and unrolled completely to access the label. The shade was sold with an orange, black and white hang tag warning consumers that young children can STRANGLE in cord and bead chain loops. However, the hang tag may have been discarded upon installation. Nearly all shades were professionally installed.

      The shades were sold by specialty dealers and Expo Design Centers nationwide from January 2000 through April 2009 for between $200 and $2000 per shade.

      Consumers should immediately check their window coverings to see if the tension device is attached to the cord and installed into the wall or floor. If not attached, immediately stop using the window coverings and contact Lutron Electronics to receive a free repair kit. If the consumer has difficulty installing the tensioning device, contact Lutron for further instructions.

      Safety regulators remind consumers to examine all Roman Blinds and shades in their homes. If looped pull cords are present or exposed inner cords are found on the back of blinds or shades and children are in the home or occasionally visit your home, please consider replacing them with blinds or shades that do not have exposed pull cords or inner cords.

      Lutron Recalls Roller Shades...

      Botanika Candles Recalled

      May 12, 2009
      Lumetique is recalling about 7,000 16-ounce Botanika candles. The glass can break during use, posing a fire hazard..

      The firm has received ten reports of the glass breaking during use, two of which resulted in fires causing property damage to household items and carpet. One consumer reported a cut on her foot when the glass broke and another consumer reported a wax burn from blowing out the candle.

      The recalled candles were sold under the DayNa Decker "Botanika" brand in 16 ounce green glass vessels, 4 inches wide by 5 inches high. Botanika candles in the smaller 3 ounce and 6 ounce sizes are not included in the recall. The words "DayNa Decker" and "Bacara," "Bardou," "Clementine," "Indigo," "Leila," "Manzanita," "Sierra," "Violetta," "Yasmin" or "Zelia" appear on the bottom of the glass vessel.

      The candles, made in the United States, were sold by resorts, spas, gift shops and specialty stores nationwide from March 2008 through April 2009 for about $76.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the candle and contact Lumetique to receive a full credit toward the purchase of DayNa Decker brand products.

      Swimways Swim Trainers Recalled

      September 10, 2003

      Swimways Corp. is recalling about 3,400 "Sandy Claws" swim trainers. The nylon body strap on the swim trainer can detach or tear from the flotation device and release a child into the water, posing a serious drowning hazard to young children.

      There have been seven reports of the body straps detaching and two reports of the seams splitting, though no injuries have been reported.

      The recalled "Sandy Claws" Swim Trainer is a red and yellow colored fabric crab with eight stuffed legs and two eyes covering a styrofoam buoyancy float. Black straps are attached to the side seams to fasten around a child. Printed on the underside of the crab float are the words, "Swim Ways" and "CAUTION: This is not a lifesaving device. Do not leave child unattended while in use."

      Specialty pool and toy stories nationwide and Internet retailers sold the flotation devices from January 2003 through July 2003 for about $12.

      Consumers should stop using the swim trainers immediately and return them to the company for a full refund.       Victoria Classics Recalls Roman Shades Sold at Target

      August 26, 2009
      Victoria Classics is recalling about 163,000 sets of thermal sailcloth and matchstick bamboo Roman shades sold at Target.

      Strangulations can occur when a child places his or her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck. Exposed operating cords can knot or tangle creating a strangulation loop. No injuries have been reported.

      This recall includes two styles of shades Thermal Sailcloth and Matchstick Bamboo roman Shades all have a small sewn-in label on the back that reads home, Made in China. The shades measure about 64 inches long. The widths of the thermal shades are 23, 27, 31 and 35 inches and were sold in coffee, red, ivory and tan. The widths of the Matchstick roman shades are 23, 27, 31, 35 and 36 inches and are brown.

      The shades were sold at Target stores and at Target.com nationwide from September 2008 through June 2009 for between $15 and $40.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled roman shades and contact Victoria Classics to receive a free repair kit.

      Build-A-Bear Recalls Founding Bear

      Jan. 16, 2003

      Build-A-Bear Workshop is recalling about 80,000 "Founding Bear" stuffed bears. The nose of the stuffed bear can be pulled or twisted off, posing a choking hazard to a young child.

      Build-A-Bear Workshop has not received any reports of injuries resulting from these stuffed bears. This recall is being conducted to prevent possible injuries.

      The recall includes the "Founding Bear," and the "Founding Bear II." The "Founding Bear" is about 19-inches long, and the "Founding Bear II" is about 18-inches long. Both stuffed bears are chocolate brown and have cream-colored paws and snout. "OUR FOUNDING BEAR" is written on a cardboard tag that was originally attached to the bear's ear.

      Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and web site sold these stuffed bears nationwide between March 2000 and December 2002 for between $22 and $25.

      Consumers should take these stuffed bears away from young children immediately. Build-A-Bear Workshop will exchange the bear for any other item they sell of equal value or provide a Build-A-Bear Workshop gift card. Consumers should return the stuffed bears to any Build-A-Bear Workshop store or contact the firm for instructions on mailing the bear.       Outdoor Playset Gliders Recalled

      June 4, 2009
      Backyard Play Systems LLC is recalling about 1,800 outdoor playset gliders. The retaining rings used to secure the gliders to the playset can become loose or detached, posing a fall hazard to children.

      Backyard Play Systems has received one report of a retaining ring falling off. No injuries have been reported.

      This recall involves outdoor playset gliders designed to hang from home play equipment. The green plastic gliders were sold as an accessory to home play equipment marketed under the brand names Heartland Premium Play Systems, Yardline Play Systems and Backyard Play Systems.

      The gliders, made in China, were sold by Backyard Buildings and More and Lowe's stores nationwide and online at Costco.com, BettyMills.com, and BackyardBuildings.com from February 2008 through May 2009 for about $100.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the gliders. Backyard Play Systems is notifying all customers directly and is providing a free repair kit which includes replacement hardware and written instructions.

      Outdoor Playset Gliders Recalled...

      Rocking Chairs Recalled

      December 15, 2003

      Hill-Rom is recalling 2,900 rocking chairs. The chairs support assembly can fail and cause the rocking chair to collapse, posing the risk of injury to the user.

      Hill-Rom has received 40 reports of rocking chairs collapsing, including two reports of consumers receiving bumps and bruises to the head and shoulders.

      The wooden rocking chairs were sold in two styles, a contemporary model (PI155131) and a more traditional model (P155132). Both style rocking chairs have a clear varnish finish. The rocking chairs can be identified by washers and screws located under the seat, near the legs.

      The chairs were sold at hospitals and similar institutions between January 1997 and May 2003.

      Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. is recalling about 14,000 bicycles. The handlebars can break, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

      Specialized has received two reports of the handlebar breaking during use, one of which caused a rider to suffer head trauma which resulted in unconsciousness and a puncture wound to the arm.

      This recall involves HL handlebars on the following 2009 Specialized bicycles: Cross Trail Comp, Myka HT Comp, Myka HT Elite, Rockhopper, Rockhopper Comp and Rockhopper Comp 29. The model number of the HL handlebar is ALR-13 NTFOV and is located underneath the right hand grip of the handlebar.

      The bicycles, made in China, were sold by authorized dealers nationwide from June 2008 through February 2009 for between $640 and $1,050.

      Consumers should immediately stop riding these bicycles and contact a Specialized dealer for a free replacement handlebar.

      Rolling Toy Xylophones Recalled

      January 14, 2009
      About 500 rolling toy xylphones are being recalled by their distributor, The Land of Nod. The pegs on the xylophone can break, posing a choking hazard to children.

      The Land of Nod has received 22 reports of broken pegs. No injuries have been reported.

      The recalled product is a rolling xylophone made of metal, wood and plastic. It has four wheels and a string to pull the toy. The xylophone has eight metal bars, each of which is attached with two pegs. The name Janod is printed on each side between the wheels, and on the back wheels.

      The toys were sold through the Land of Nod catalogue, Web site (www.landofnod.com), and retail stores nationwide from October 2007 through March 2008 for about $45. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately take the recalled product away from children and return it to the company for a credit of the purchase price and a $10 gift card.

      Rheem, Ruud, United Refrigeration Oil-Fired Furnaces Recalled

      January 22, 2009
      Rheem is recalling about 14,000 oil-fired furnaces sold under the Rheem, Ruud and United Refrigeration brands. If the furnace is not properly wired, the oil burner can continue to operate when the blower shuts off, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

      Rheem has received one report in which the furnace was incorrectly wired. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

      This recall involves oil-fired furnaces sold under the Rheem, Ruud and United Refrigeration brands. Only the models beginning with the model numbers listed in the chart below and with date codes ending in 0106 through 5206, 0107 through 5207, or 0108 through 4808 are included in this recall. The model number and date code (designated by the four digits following an 'M' in the middle of the serial number) are printed on the unit's rating plate, which is on the left wall of the furnace's interior just above the burner. The rating plate can be found by opening the unit's burner access door, which has slotted openings.

      L.M. Becker & Co. Toy Necklaces Recalled

      September 10, 2003
      More than 1.4 million toy necklaces distributed by L.M. Becker & Co. Inc., are being recalled. The necklace's pendant contains high levels of lead, posing a risk of poisoning to young children.

      The firm has received one report of a child who swallowed the necklace's pendant, which reportedly resulted in high lead levels in her blood.

      The necklaces consist of a 10-inch black cord with a 7/8-inch-diameter gray metal pendant. The metal pendant has assorted symbols on one side.

      The necklaces were sold through vending machines in malls, discount department and grocery stores nationwide from March 2002 through April 2003 for about 50 cents.

      'Rocketship PalPODzzz' LED Nightlights

      OSRAM SYLVANIA is recalling about 26,000 portable LED nightlights. The bottom plastic cover on the recharging base of the portable nightlight can break, exposing internal electrical components. This poses an electric shock hazard to consumers.

      The firm has received three reports of the bottom of the recharging base breaking and consumers touching internal electrical components that resulted in minor electric shocks.

      This recall involves LED Rocketship PalPODzzz portable nightlights with model number 72174. The product can also be used as an emergency light or a flashlight. The nightlight is shaped as a rocket ship and sits in a plastic recharging base that plugs into the wall. The model number and date codes 0808 or 0908 are printed on the label attached to the bottom cover of the recharging base.

      The lights were sold at Sold at The Home Depot, Stop & Shop, and other retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Smarthome.com, and Sylvaniaonlinestore.com from October 2008 through November 2009 for between $15 and $20. They were made in China.

      Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled portable nightlights and contact OSRAM SYLVANIA for a free replacement portable nightlight and a $5 coupon credit for OSRAM SYLVANIA products.
