    Saab 9-3 Recall

    April 25, 2006
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is ordering the recall of 11,886 Saab 9-3 passenger cars from the 2001 model year because of faulty fuel lines and fittings.

On some of the vehicles, the fuel pump retaining taps that secure the fuel line to the pump were damaged during production.

NHTSA warns that the problem over time could cause a fuel leak and fire.

Saab dealers will secure the fuel line to the pump with a bracket that will hold even if the retaining tab breaks.

The Saab 9-3 recall is expected to get underway in May.

      Cadillac Recalled for Computer Glitch

      January 30, 2006
A computer glitch that can shut down the engine of the Cadillac CTS and STS luxury sedans has resulted in an order by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to recall the two General Motors automobiles.

CTS and STS models with the V6 engine "may have a situation where fuel is no longer supplied to the engine," according to NHTSA.

"This condition occurs without the illumination of the fuel level low indication light or the warning chime," according to the agency.

NHTSA reports that if the Cadillac engine stops running, the driver may not be able to restart the vehicle.

Cadillac dealers will reprogram the electronic control module in the car with new software free of charge. Owners of the Cadillac CTS and STS were notified in December to maintain at least a quarter of a tank of fuel to avoid the condition.

Owners may contact Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339 or NHTSA 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).

      Feds Expand Jeep Liberty Probe

      June 6, 2006
Federal regulators have expanded a defect investigation of the front suspension on the Jeep Liberty to include all 2002 to 2006 models of the vehicles with the suspension.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Office of Defects Investigation is looking into allegations that the lower ball joint assembly can separate and fail on the Liberty.

Regulators have received 495 complaints describing a lower ball joint failure in the suspension.

The complaints include reports of three injuries and two crashes.

The ball joints, which in some models were the subject of a prior recall, can loose lubrication and corrode and that can result in separation and failure.

Chrysler has changed the design and material used in the Libertys suspension since the initial safety recall. NHTSA is looking at that recall to determine if the changes and modifications solved the ball joint problem in the suspension.

The recalled models are the In-Ceiling Speaker, NS-IW360C, which is round; and the In-Wall Speaker, NS-IW660, which is rectangular. Both models have a white rim and grill, and black interior. Each individual speaker has its own unique serial number. The model and serial numbers appear both on the box and on the speakers. The following are the recalled serial numbers:
