    Maxi-Heat Dream Tower Heater Recalled

    About 75,000 Maxi-Heat Dream Tower Heaters sold at Wal-Mart are being recalled. The wires inside the oscillating heater can short circuit and spark, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

    King of Fans, Inc., the manufacturer, has received 31 reports of heaters smoking or sparking, and one report of a house fire. There have been no reports of injuries.

    The recalled model is CH920. The ceramic portable electric heaters are the oscillating tower type. They are grey and have a control panel attached to the top of the unit. Maxi-Heat is printed on the control panel. The model number is printed on the ETL label on the bottom of the back side of the unit.

    The units were sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from August 2005 through December 2005 for about $40.

    Consumers should immediately stop using these heaters and unplug them. Return the recalled heaters to a Wal-Mart store for a full refund.

    H&M Girls Water Shoes Recalled

    H&M is recalling about 1,900 pairs of girl's water shoes because they can become too slippery.

    Though these shoes are marketed for use around water for traction, they become extremely slippery when wet. This poses a risk of slipping and falling on smooth, hard surfaces such as tile.

    These are pink and blue shoes with a multi-colored trim. The shoes have a pink rubber sole with silver glitter incased within it. A butterfly appliqu is attached to the top and flower emblems are on the back and sides. A label inside the shoes reads "364430" and "MADE IN CHINA."

    The stores were sold at H&M stores in the Northeast U.S. and California from March 2005 through May 2006 for about $8.

    Consumers should stop using these shoes and immediately return them to any H&M store for a full refund.

    Disney Personal DVD Players

    Disney Personal DVD players are being recalled because the battery pack can overheat and burst when recharging, posing a risk of burns.

    Memcorp, the distributor, has received 17 reports of batteries overheating, including three reports of minor skin irritations and three reports of minor property damage.

    The recalled product is the battery packs sold with Disney-brand personal DVD players. The DVD players are about 6.5-inches by 5.5-inches with a 3-inch screen display. They were sold in five styles with a corresponding model number. The model number is written on the back of the unit, under the viewing stand and below the Disney brand name.

      Counterfeit "Square D" Circuit Breakers

      Scott Electric Co. Inc. is recalling about 30,000 counterfeit "Square D" circuit breakers.

      The recalled circuit breakers labeled "Square D" are counterfeit and might not trip when they are overloaded, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

      Description: The counterfeit circuit breakers include Square D QO-series models 115, 120, 130, 160, 215, 230, 260, 1515, and 1520. Actual Square D circuit breakers have (a) the amp rating written on the handle in white paint on the front of the breaker; (b) on the side of the breaker, where wire terminal screw is located, the arc shoot opening should have squared corners with the bottom edge of the opening angled up; (c) the mounting clip should be yellow chromate with half of the top of the clip visible; and (d) the Square D insignia should be molded onto the breaker. If your Square D breaker does not match this description, it could be counterfeit.

      The circuit breakers were sold by Scott Electric Co. distributor locations throughout Pennsylvania and Texas from May 2005 through May 2006 for between $4 and $25.

      Consumers should contact Scott Electric Co. to arrange for a free inspection and if necessary, replacement or refund.

      Counterfeit Square D Circuit Breakers...

      OJ Electronics is recalling about 30,000 208-volt and 240-volt thermostats. The recalled thermostats floor sensor or its cable can be damaged from cutting, drilling, or nailing. This poses a risk of electric shock to consumers if the power supply is not disconnected.

      The recall involves thermostats that have a built-in GFCI and are designed for use in under-floor heating systems. Thermostats included in the recall are connected to 208-Volt or 240-Volt power supplies (120V units are not included in the recall). They were sold under the brand names of Canisol, Danfoss, Elektra, Momento, OJ Microline, Raychem, Thermosoft, Warmly Yours and Warmup. The brand name is located on the front of the thermostat.

      The thermostats, made in Denmark, were sold at various home improvement stores, tile shops and other retail shops nationwide from January 2004 through December 2008 for between $150 and $200.

      Consumers should not cut, drill or nail into the heated floor, and contact the manufacturer to arrange for a free in-home repair.

      Girls' Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstring Recalled

      "Hide & Seek" hooded sweatshirts are being recalled because the drawstring presents a strangulation hazard.

      In February 1996, federal safety regulators issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.

      The recalled hood sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood. The sweatshirts are pink, white, brown, navy or green with a beaded heart logo and embroidered flowers on the front above the left pocket. They were sold in girls' sizes SML to XL. ROXY GIRL is printed on the collar label. The style number 484241 (some with an M, N or NN after the number) is located on the garment's hangtag and/or the individual packaging label.

      The sweatshirts were sold at surf and skate shops, specialty and department stores, including Macy's, Nordstrom, Quiksilver and Roxy retail stores and outlets nationwide from November 2005 through January 2006 for about $40.

      Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard. Consumers can receive a full refund by returning the sweatshirts to the place of purchase or by mailing the sweatshirts to: Quiksilver Inc., Attention: Consumer Replacements/Recalled Merchandise, 5600 Argosy Circle, Suite 300, Huntington Beach, Calif. 92649. Returns must include the consumer's name, address and telephone number so Quiksilver can reach them.

      Blair Expands Chenille Robe Recall After More Deaths Reported

      Blair LlC is expanding an earlier recall of women's chenille robes and other chenille products. Since announcing the recall in April 2009, Blair has received nine reports of deaths allegedly due to the originally recalled robes catching fire. Blair has received one report on one of the additional garments catching fire; no injuries have been reported.

      In April 2009, Blair recalled 162,000 chenille robes after it learned of three robes catching on fire, including one report of second degree burns. Blair then received several reports of deaths allegedly due to robes catching fire. This prompted a second news release in June 2009 to again alert consumers to the burn hazard for the chenille robes. After this re-announcement, Blair received four additional reports of deaths allegedly due to the robes catching fire.

      Three of these victims were cooking and a fourth was tending a pellet stove; three of the four victims were in their 80s and one was in her 70s. All nine reported deaths occurred prior to the April 2009 announcement of the recall.

      Blair has received one report involving one of the additional garments described below catching fire; no injuries have been reported related to these garments. Blair decided to expand the recall to include all womens chenille wearing apparel manufactured by A-One Textile & Towel.

      The products recalled include Full-Length Womens Chenille Robes, Womens Chenille Jacket, Womens Chenille Lounge Jacket, Womens Chenille Top. The current recall includes about 138,000 items. Another 162,000 were recalled in April 2009.

      The recalled items were manufactured by CA-One Textile & Towel, of Karachi, Pakistan. A-One Textile & Towel manufactured all of the products recalled in April 2009. Blair is expanding its recall to all womens chenille wearing apparel manufactured by A-One.

      Energizer Wallplate Nightlights Recalled

      Energizer is recalling about 3,000 of its Light on Demand wallplate nightlights. The nightlight can overheat, especially if additional devices are plugged into its outlets, posing a fire hazard.

      The recalled wall light is white, plugs into the wall, has a plug in base into which additional devices can be plugged, and has a removable/rechargeable light/flashlight. Model LODNLWP is stamped on the back of the unit. The wall light measures about 6 inches high, 5 inches wide, and 3 inches deep. No other Light on Demand products are included in this recall.

      The lights, made in China, were sold by mass merchandisers, office supply stores, and various other retailers nationwide and on the Web from August 2008 through July 2009 for about $26.

      Consumers should immediately stop using this recalled nightlight, unplug it, and contact Energizer for information on returning the light to receive a full refund.

      Light & Motion Recalls Bicycle Light Batteries

      Light & Motion is recalling bicycle light batteries because of an overheating problem.

      The recalled batteries are found in Light & Motion 2004 ARC Li-Ion HID lighting systems. The lights are black with "ARC" and "LIGHT & MOTION" written in yellow letters. The recall includes only batteries with a manufacturer date code of 1003 or 1103. The date code is stamped on the bottom of the battery and "LIGHT & MOTION" is printed on the side of the battery.

      The lights were sold at authorized bicycle dealers nationwide from November 2003 through October 2004 for about $500.

      Consumers should stop using the lights immediately and return the battery to Light & Motion for a free replacement.

      Fitness Quest Crosstrainers Recalled for Fall Hazard

      Fitness Question is recalling about 150,000 Freestyle Cross Trainer and Gazelle Freestyle Cross Trainer Pro Gliders. The resistance pistons on the glider can come off during exercise. If this happens, a person using the glider can fall off the exercise machine.

      Fitness Quest has received 145 reports of pistons detaching and one report of a minor injury from a fall.

      Gazelle Freestyle Crosstrainer and Crosstrainer Pro exercisers are "glider-style" exercise equipment. The user moves two foot platforms in a striding motion back and forth while grasping handlebars attached to the platforms. The model name "Gazelle Freestyle Cross Trainer" or "Gazelle Freestyle Cross Trainer Pro" is printed on the side of each product's frame.

      The machines were sold by the Home Shopping Network (HSN), The Shopping Channel (TSC), and Dicks Sporting Goods beginning in January 2004 for between $200 and $250.

      Consumers should disconnect the pistons on these exercise gliders. Consumers can continue to use the gliders until they receive the repair kit as long as the pistons are detached.

      • Consumers who purchased a Crosstrainer from Dick's should contact Fitness Quest for a free repair kit.
      • Consumers who purchased a Crosstrainer or Crosstrainer Pro from the Home Shopping Network (HSN) or the Shopping Channel (tSC) before January 1, 2006 will receive a free repair kits by mail. Contact Fitness Quest if you do not receive a kit by June 3, 2006.
      • Crosstrainer gliders purchased from HSN or tSC after January 1, 2006 have repair kits included.

      Canon Recalls Desktop Copiers to Fix Fire Hazard

      Canon U.S.A. is recalling about 800,000 desktop copiers to fix a fire hazard. The company said an improperly fitting electrical connection inside the copiers can cause overheating, smoking and fire.

      Canon U.S.A. has received six reports of NP1020 model copiers starting to smoke or catching on fire due to the problem with the electrical connection. No injuries were reported.

      The repair recall includes only the following model Canon copiers: PC6, PC6RE, PC65, PC7, PC7RE, PC8, PC11, PC11RE, PC12, NP1010 and NP1020. The model number is on the front panel of the unit. The recalled copiers were manufactured between 1987 and 1998.

      The copiers were sold by dealers, national retailers and office supply stores nationwide from January 1987 through December 1999 for between $1,500 and $2,300.

      Users should stop using the recalled copiers immediately and contact Canon U.S.A. to receive a free repair.

      Canon Recalls Desktop Copiers to Fix Fire Hazard...

      NHTSA Investigates Toyota Scion tC

      July 11, 2006
      The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating the 2005 and 2006 Toyota Scion tC following nine reports of shattered moonroofs.

      According to NHTSA, fragments of the shattered moonroofs fell into the passenger compartment.

      In seven incidents, the glass fell from retractable glass panel sections and in two incidents the glass in stationary panels shattered.

      "Some reports allege that breakage occurred while the vehicles were being driven," according to NHTSA and "one complaint reported cuts from the broken glass.

      Toyota recalled several models of the Scion tC last year because of consumer complaints that a glass wind deflector located near the moonroof might shatter when struck by road debris.

      That recall involved about 71,000 Scion tC coupes in the U.S. that were also from the 2005-06 model years.

      Brookstone Foldable Massaging Bed Rest Recalled

      April 4, 2006
      Brookstone is recalling about 35,000 foldable massaging bed rests because of fire and burn hazards. Electrical circuits within the bed rest can overheat causing the back side of the product to overheat.

      Brookstone has received two reports of overheating, melting and charring, resulting in minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

      The recalled bed rest is designed to support a person sitting in bed. It is beige and consists of a back, two foldable armrests with a cup holder and massage controls, and a headrest with a reading light attached. "Imported by Brookstone Company" is printed on a tag attached to the bed rest. The massaging bed rest also provides heat at a single setting. A curly beige cord is attached to the back lower left corner of the bed rest. On some of the bed rests, "SKU NO: 431254" is printed on a round metal plate where the curly beige cord plugs into the bed rest. "Brookstone" is printed on the beige plug-in transformer that attaches to the beige cord.

      Brookstone retail and outlet stores nationwide, Brookstone Web site, Brookstone catalogs, Amazon.com, and borderfree.com from April 2004 through January 2006 for about $125.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled bed rest immediately and contact Brookstone for a free replacement bed rest. The firm is contacting customers directly when possible.

      LEGO Recalls Toy Trucks Due to Puncture Hazard

      LEGO is recalling about 358,000 "Explore Super Trucks." The plastic wheels on the truck can detach, exposing a metal axle. This poses a puncture hazard to young children.

      LEGO Systems, Inc. has received 10 reports of a wheel detaching. Two children received serious puncture injuries resulting from the exposed metal axle once the wheel detached. Another child fell when the wheel came off of the toy truck.

      LEGO EXPLORE Super Truck is a toy-in-toy product designed for children ages 18 months and up. The toy features a red plastic pick-up/dump truck that measures about 15-inches high and 19-inches wide with four 7-inch black plastic wheels that are packed with a box of 40 LEGO DUPLO bricks in the cargo area.

      The unit has a row of DUPLO "studs" across the top of the cab, molded yellow headlights and stickers on the front and sides of the unit create the idea of a windshield, windows and doors depicting a LEGO figure in the drivers seat. The LEGO Explore logo is printed on the door stickers. The box of DUPLO bricks is not included in this recall.

      The trucks were sold at various retailers nationwide, including Toys "R" Us and Wal-Mart, from August 2002 through August 2004 for about $20.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled toy trucks (not the bricks) immediately and contact LEGO Systems for information on receiving a refund.

      LEGO Recalls Toy Trucks Due to Puncture Hazard...

      AquaPod Acquariums Recalled

      March 13, 2006
      AquaPod 12-gallon aquariums are being recalled due to a shock hazard.

      The aquariums have three power cords, two for the aquarium lamps and one for the air pump. When only one of the two lamp cords is plugged in, the unplugged lamp cord can become energized, posing an electrical shock hazard.

      Current USA Inc. has received nine reports of electrical problems with these aquariums, resulting in seven consumers suffering shocks by touching unplugged, energized lamp cords.

      This recall affects AquaPod Aquariums with model number 7050. The model number is not written on the aquariums, but is on the owners manual and the packaging. Only aquariums without a white label containing the manufacturer date and a bar code, which is attached to light reflector inside lid of the aquariums are included in this recall.

      To check if your unit has a white sticker, open the aquarium lid and look on the bottom left corner of the light reflector. If your AquaPod 12-Gallon System has a white label with a date in black letters and bar code, it is not included in the recall. Model numbers 7051 and 7052 aquariums also are not included in the recall.

      The acquariums were sold in pet stores nationwide, pet merchandise catalogs, and by Web retailers from December 2005 through January 2006 for about $240.

      Scubapro X650 Diving Regulators Recalled for Drowning Hazard

      Scubapro X650 Diving Regulators are being recalled. A manufacturing error could cause the main housing of some regulators to change shape over time, which could cause the cover and diaphragm to become dislodged. If this occurs, air flow will be interrupted and the regulators will no longer function, posing a drowning hazard to users.

      The recall involves some X650 second stage regulators. All X650 second stage regulators are clearly marked with a blue capital "X" next to the numbers "650" in white. Affected regulators have a visible bump located on the right side of the unit between the letter "C" and where the mouthpiece attaches to the regulator body.

      The units were sold by authorized Scubapro dealers in the U.S. from June 2005 through May 2006 for between $400 and $670

      Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact Scubapro to determine if they have an affected second stage regulator. If so, they will receive a free replacement regulator. The company is contacting registered owners of the product directly.

      All-Clad 4-Square Belgian Waffle Makers Recalled

      All-Clad Metalcrafters Inc. is recalling about 30,000 4-Square Belgian Waffle Makers. Wiring inside the waffle maker can be damaged and contact the waffle makers metal body, posing a shock or fire hazard to consumers.

      All-Clad has received 20 reports of waffle makers emitting sparks. No injuries have been reported.

      The recalled All-Clad 4-Square Belgian Waffle Maker is electric with a stainless steel exterior. The recall involves units with a model/ref number of #WD700462 and 4-digit manufacture date codes ending in 08. The model/ref number and manufacture date code are located on a white label on the bottom of the waffle maker.

      The waffle makers were sold exclusively through Williams-Sonoma stores, catalog and Web site nationwide from March 2008 through January 2009 for about $200. They were made in China.

      Consumers should unplug the waffle maker immediately and contact All-Clad for instructions on obtaining a free replacement.

      Decorative Lawn Sprinklers Recalled

      Syratech Corporation is recalling about 10,000 "Elements" decorative lawn sprinklers. The plastic body of the lawn sprinkler can crack when placed under intense water pressure and pieces of it can break off and be projected 5 to 10 feet in the air. This could pose a risk of injury to consumers and bystanders.

      Syratech has received two reports of the lawn sprinkler cracking and projecting pieces of the decorative covering in the air. The company has no reports of injuries.

      Description: The recalled products are Elements lawn sprinklers with a plastic decorative body mounted on wheels in the shape of a green frog, blue fish or yellow duck sold under model numbers:

      • Model No. 4005059 (Duck)
      • Model No. 4005060 (Frog)
      • Model No. 4005061 (Fish)

      The model numbers are located on the side of the packaging.

      The sprinklers were sold at discount retailers nationwide from March 2006 through August 2006 for between $15 and $30.

      Consumers should stop using these sprinklers immediately and return them to Syratech Corp. for a full refund.

      Capresso Espresso Machines Recalled for Fire Hazard

      Capresso Inc. is recalling about 28,000 espresso machines because of a fire hazard.

      The recall is for the C1000 Capresso Automatic Coffee Center. The electrical connectors in the espresso machine can erode, posing a fire hazard.

      The firm has received four reports of fires starting inside the coffee center. No injuries or property damage were reported.

      The espresso machines have C1000 printed in large type on the front panel and model number 152 printed on the bottom of the machine. These machines grind, compact ground coffee, pressure brew, stop automatically, and discard used coffee grounds. They can also dispense hot water for tea and hot steam to froth and steam milk.

      The units were sold at department stores and independent specialty stores nationwide from July 1999 through October 2005 for about $800.

      Consumers should stop using the recalled espresso machines immediately and contact Capresso to arrange for a free repair.
