Moving can be stressful, but choosing the right moving company in Florida can make a big difference. Here's a simplified guide to help you find the best fit:
How much you pay for your move depends on whether you move yourself or hire movers, the move distance, how much you’re moving and any additional services (like packing or storage) you choose.
Local movers typically charge by the hour, with a team of two movers costing $80 to $100 per hour as of publishing. Long-distance movers typically charge a flat fee, which may range anywhere from $2,000 to $8,000. Packing and unpacking services will cost you more. Tipping movers is optional but customary (10% to 20% of the total cost).
The figures below are based on current (as of publishing) industry estimates for a three-bedroom home with no additional services.
Destination | Distance | Estimated cost |
---|---|---|
Jacksonville (32209) | Under 10 miles | $1,414-$5,046 |
Atlanta (30303) | Approximately 350 miles | $4,208-$6,134 |
Denver (80202) | Approximately 1,800 miles | $8,410-$10,546 |
There are ways to ease the stress of a move and simplify the process — it just takes some planning.
Think about how much time, energy and money the move will require. Evaluate your time frame, the number of items you need moved and your budget. Set aside extra funds for unexpected costs.
» SMART MOVE: How to make a moving budget
Reduce the weight and volume of your belongings to save on moving costs. Consider donating or selling items you no longer need. Your city or town may have local or national charities that offer donation pickup, including for larger furniture items.
Begin packing items from less frequently used areas or seasonal items first. As you get closer to your move-out date, aim to pack one room per day and label boxes clearly.
» MORE: How to pack for a move
Pack a box or bag for each person in your household containing essentials for moving day and the following day. Include a change of clothes, toiletries and any necessary medications — you don’t want to be without these during the move, especially if you’re driving a long distance.
Have a reliable contact for the moving company so you can communicate logistics, ask questions and track your move. Some companies offer tracking via an app; find out ahead of time so you can download it and be ready for moving day.

Moving truck rental costs can range from under $100 to several thousand dollars, depending on the size of the truck, the distance you need to drive and the amount of time it takes. If you’re moving locally, you might spend around $20 a day plus mileage fees.
If you were to buy brand-new moving boxes for a larger home, you might find yourself spending quite a bit of money. The good news: You can save by reusing old boxes or collecting them from friends and family. Costs for other moving supplies, like packing paper and cushioning material, are usually minimal but can add up — you might budget up to $100 for these materials.
Depending on the exact mileage and other factors, it can cost between $500 and $1,700 to ship a car long-distance.

Whether you’re attracted to the warm weather or low taxes, Florida offers a variety of safe, affordable cities. From popular Tampa suburbs to thriving Miami communities, these move-to destinations provide high median household incomes and booming economies.
We identified the best places to move to in Florida by evaluating the state’s 50 largest cities based on five essential criteria: affordability, economic strength, education and health care, quality of life, and safety. Read on to find out which Florida city you should move to in 2025.
Wesley Chapel, a suburb of Tampa, ranks as the best place to live in Florida in 2025 because of its high scores in health, education and safety.
Jump to insightThe Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro areas each have three cities ranked in the top 10.
Jump to insightMiami Beach ranks as the worst place to live in Florida due to poor safety, economy and affordability scores. It has the second-highest violent crime rate and the fifth-highest rent on our list.
Jump to insightFlorida is one of the fastest-growing states in the nation. Its warm weather and lack of state income tax attract many movers. If you're planning a move to Florida, consider these top-rated cities.
Wesley Chapel ranks No.1 on our list primarily through strong health care, education and safety scores. Having the highest number of health care practitioners per capita, the second-highest rate of insured residents and the third-highest high school graduation rate makes it the best city for health and education. This area also comes in second for safety, with only 0.82 violent crimes per 1,000 people each year. This is 68% lower than the Florida average.
Wesley Chapel’s economy is one of the strongest in Florida. The city has the highest five-year population growth rate in the state (49%) and the highest median household income on our list ($112,045). All of these factors have allowed Wesley Chapel’s economy to thrive, attracting more and more new residents over time.
North Port earned its ranking by being among the top 10 for safety, affordability and health and education. Despite having a median household income much lower than Wesley Chapel ($82,495), North Port residents still only spend a median of 21.4% of their income on housing. This makes it one of the most affordable cities on our list.
With strong safety, economy and quality of life rankings, Coral Springs is the third-best city to move to in Florida. Nearly 66% of residents are less than a 10-minute walk from a park — more than any other city among the top five. Homes here saw an appreciation of 6.3% between 2022 and 2023, making properties in the area good investments for would-be Florida residents.
High safety and affordability scores make Riverview the fourth-best city to move to in Florida. Rates of both property crime and violent crime are low, at 6.5 and 1.03 incidents per 1,000 people, respectively. The median homeowner spends only 22% of their $100,475 income on housing costs. Combined, these factors make Riverview a desirable Florida location.
Tamarac, a Fort Lauderdale suburb, ranks as the fifth-best place to move to in Florida in large part because of its top-ranked economy. Population growth of 11.8% between 2018 and 2023, combined with the highest home appreciation (9.4%) of the top five areas between 2022 and 2023, earned the city No. 1 in the category.

Note: Pine Hills, Poinciana and Town 'n' Country were omitted from the rankings due to missing crime data, resulting in a final list of 47 cities.
