Home electronics gear is certainly plentiful and it's relatively cheap, compared to the price of the high-end stuff sought by truly obsessed enthusiasts. But when sophisticated gear becomes inexpensive through mass production, there's a hidden cost -- the price of repair can easily equal or exceed the purchase price. That means that in just a year or two, that big-screen TV or DVD player can wind being just another piece of household debris bound for the nearest landfill.
