DeWALT battery walk-behind mowers recalled due to laceration hazard

The company has received 10 reports of the mowers failing to shut off

Stanley Black & Decker is recalling more than 46,000 DeWALT battery push walk-behind mowers and DeWALT battery self-propelled walk-behind mowers. The company said that if water gets into the mower’s handle support while the battery is installed, the mower can fail to shut off when the bail handle is released or start without a key, posing a laceration hazard to the user.

The firm has received 10 reports of mowers failing to shut off when the bail handle is released and one report of a mower starting without a key inserted. The incident in which a mower started without a key inserted resulted in a finger laceration for which no medical attention was required.

The mowers were sold at The Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware and various stores nationwide and online at www.homedepot.com, www.tractorsupply.com and www.acehardware.com from January 2024 through July 2024 for between $530 and $750.

This recall involves 2024 model year DeWALT Battery 21” Push walk-behind mowers, model numbers DCMWP234U2 and DCMWP600X2, and DeWALT Battery 21” Self-Propelled walk-behind mowers, model numbers DCMWSP256U2 and DCMWSP650Y2.

The mowers are black, gray and yellow and have DeWALT printed in yellow on the front or side of the mower. The model number is printed on the rear door of the mower. A date code formatted as 20XX YY-58, with 20XX for year, YY for week, and 58 as the factory code, is laser-printed in yellow on the left side of the mower, just above the left rear wheel.

Only date codes 2023 32-58 through 2024 13-58 are affected. Mowers manufactured after March 2024 (2024 14-58) are not affected.

    What to do

Mamibaby and Cosy Nation Baby Loungers recalled for federal violations

The products can pose several different hazards to infants

More than 32,000 Mamibaby and Cosy Nation Baby Loungers are being recalled because they violate the federal safety regulations for Infant Sleep Products. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the sides are too low to contain the infant.

Regulators also say the sleeping pad is too thick, posing a suffocation hazard because an infant could fall out of an enclosed opening at the foot of the lounger or become entrapped.

The loungers also do not have a stand, posing a fall hazard if used on elevated surfaces. These violations create an unsafe sleeping environment for infants, CPSC says.

This recall involves baby loungers made of a cloth cover with a foam sleeping pad and padded bumper. The baby loungers were advertised as “baby lounger” and “co-sleeper” and were sold in different printed fabrics and colors, including Animal, Baby Crown, Classics Dinosaur, Crocodile, Deer, Dinosaur2, Elephant, Elk, Feather, Flower, Forest, Giraffe, Green Leaf, Gray-set, Gray Arrow, Leaves, Lion, Love, Sheep Monkey, Star, Triangle and White Leaf.

“SLEEPING SET” is printed on a tag sewn on the interior of the cover of the baby loungers. “Mamibaby” or “Cosy Nation” is printed on a brand tag sewn on the exterior of the cover of most of the baby loungers, although some of the recalled baby loungers did not include either tag.

They were sold online at Amazon.com from June 2023 through June 2024 for between about $40 and $50.

    What to do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled loungers, and contact MEIXIA Shop for information on how to dispose of the product to obtain a full refund. MEIXIA Shop and Amazon are contacting all known purchasers directly.

Consumers may also contact MEIXIA Shop by email at recallemail@163.com.

Botulism fears trigger a fish product recall

The FDA says the fish had not had internal organs removed

North Fish USA Inc. of Hallandale, Fla., has issued a recall for the imported 9-ounce packages of "Cold Smoked Capelin," because the product was found to be over 5” in length and uneviscerated, which means its internal organs were not removed.

Because of that, health officials said the product has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says the sale of uneviscerated fish over 5” in length may contain Clostridium botulinum spores as they are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish.

Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation may also be common symptoms. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.

The recalled product was distributed in to retail stores on the East Coast.

The product comes in a 9 ounce, plastic package marked with UPC code 4811527003360, and with best before date 07.13.2024 and 01.05.2025 stamped in the back of the package.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted by Patriot Foods after routine inspection by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Foods Inspectors and subsequent analysis by the food laboratory staff.

      What to do

Consumers who have purchased imported 9-ounce packages of North Fish USA “Cold Smoked Capelin" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at (954) 251-2021, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm EST.

Hyundai recalls 50,000 vehicles for faulty airbags

The airbags may deploy unintentionally or not at all

Airbags are in cars to protect occupants in a crash, but they do little good if they are unreliable. Hyundai has issued a recall for nearly 50,000 vehicles because the airbags could deploy unintentionally or not deploy in the event of an accident.

An airbag that deploys unintentionally can increase the risk of an injury. An airbag that does not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

The recall includes certain 2024 Santa Fe and Santa Fe HEV vehicles. The main floor wiring harness may chafe against the passenger-side second-row bench seat assembly and become damaged, which can cause the airbags to deploy unintentionally or prevent the airbags from deploying in a crash.

      What to do

Dealers will inspect and repair, or replace the wiring harness as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by September 23, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 265.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
