Indian recalls 1,200 motorcycles with possible engine issue

The engine may stall, increasing the risk of a crash or injury

Indian Motorcycle Company is recalling 1,215 of the following motorcycles:

  • Model year 2023 Chieftain Elites,
  • Model year 2023-2024 Chieftain Dark Horses, Chieftain Dark Horse Icons, Chieftain Limitedss Chieftains, Roadmaster Limiteds, Roadmaster Dark Horses, Roadmasters, Springfields and Springfield Dark Horses, and
  • Model year 2024 Roadmaster Elites.

The crankshaft position sensor may have been routed improperly, which can result in an engine stall.

An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

What to do

Dealers will inspect and reroute or replace the crankshaft position sensor -- as necessary -- free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 28, 2023.
