Toyota is recalling 102,000 trucks and SUVs

Engines in the affected vehicles may contain debris

Toyota is recalling around 102,000 late-model pickup trucks and SUVs because debris may enter the engine and cause it to stall. A stalled engine increases the risk of a crash.

The recall notice includes various 2022-2023 model-year Toyota Tundra pickup trucks and Lexus LX600 SUVs equipped with a V35A six-cylinder engine. The company said Debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail.

Toyota said one way to tell if an engine has debris is if there is loud engine knocking or rough, uneven performance.

You can find out if your vehicle is included in the recall by clicking here and entering your license plate number of VIN.

Toyota is working on a remedy and will inform owners of record by late July.

Ground pepper recalled for possible Salmonella contamination

Health officials are trying to trace the source that has been found in other food products

UBC Food Distributors in Dearborn Michigan is recalling the Ground Black Pepper under the Baraka brand name in 7oz plastic containers with UPC code 8 22514 26626 6. The company says the product could be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled "black pepper" was distributed nationwide in retail stores.

The product comes in a 7-ounce, clear plastic package marked with an expiration date of January 2026 on the back of the label.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) notified the company of the contamination based on a routine state surveillance sample collected by the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets that tested positive for Salmonella.

Production of the product has been suspended while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.

Cucumbers recalled for potential Salmonella contamination

The vegetables were distributed in 15 states

Before whipping up that tempting summer salad, try to remember where the cucumbers came from.  Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. of Delray, Florida, is recalling whole cucumbers shipped to certain states from May 17th through May 21st, 2024, due to the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says the recalled cucumbers were shipped in bulk cartons from May 17th through May 21st, 2024, directly to retail distribution centers, wholesalers, and food service distributors.

States receiving the cucumbers include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The recalled cucumbers are dark green, approximately 1.5 - 2.0 inches in diameter, and 5-9 inches long. Mini cucumbers and English cucumbers are not included in this recall.

The recall was initiated after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture informed the company that a product sample tested positive for the bacteria. The FDA is conducting whole genome sequencing to determine if this sample is related to an ongoing Salmonella outbreak investigation.

      What to do

The FDA says it is very unlikely the recalled cucumbers are still in the marketplace. The agency is concerned about consumers who may have already purchased them.

It may be best to err on the side of caution. If you aren’t sure about where you got them it may be best not to consume them.

Consumers should check with their retailer or place of purchase to determine whether the recalled cucumbers were sold where they shop.

Consumers with additional questions may contact the company at 1-888-364-2993, M-F, 8:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. EDT.
