THE CRISIS IN PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS
Again in 2002, Congress failed to address the growing and politically explosive issue of prescription drug costs and the inability of many seniors to pay hundreds of dollars a month for the drugs that keep them alive and voting.

DRUG DISCOUNT SCAMS
Seniors desperately seeking a way to fund their prescription drugs needs are a prime target for scam artists, and there is no shortage of half-baked schemes that promise big discounts for a small one-time fee. Unfortunately, all too often the discounts are non-existent and the fees are a lot bigger than promised.

CANADA FILLS A NEED
Many consumers are getting good deals on prescription drugs through Canadian Web sites. Though there is no consumer protection if things go wrong, it's an option that is providing at least a temporary solution to thousands of Americans.

SAVE LOCALLY
You don't need the Web to save on prescription prices. We did some calling around the D.C. area and found a wide range of prices. For example, 50 25-mg tablets of Atenolol, a popular blood-pressure medication, were $22.49 at CVS, only $6.60 at Costco. Similarly, a month's supply of 20-mg Fluoxetine (the generic for Prozac) was $40.67 at CVS, $10 at Costco.
