Review Summary

✦ Generated by AI from verified reviews

Nearly all reviewers are very dissatisfied with Maytag washers and dryers, saying machines fail far sooner than the brand's old reputation suggests. Many report control boards, transmissions and gear cases dying within one to three years. A small minority praise older units.

Reviews powering this summary

✦ Generated by AI from verified reviews

Reviews in this category are overwhelmingly negative. Most reviewers say their machine broke within months to a few years, blaming control boards, transmissions and gear cases, and contrast it with a decades-old Maytag that outlasted it. A few older units are the exception.

Reviews about reliability and longevity

Reviewers repeatedly say the machines don’t clean well, mostly because they use too little water. Common complaints include clothes coming out with dry spots or still dirty, loads twisting into tangled balls and long wash cycles. Almost no one praises the newer models’ cleaning performance.

Reviews about wash performance

Reviewers feel they paid a premium for the Maytag name but didn't get their money’s worth. Many describe an $800 to $1,000 machine failing just after the warranty expired, followed by a $500 to $900 repair quote that approached the cost of a new unit. Reviewers repeatedly call the machines junk.

Reviews about value

✦ Generated by AI from verified reviews

Reviewers describe long hold times, repeated runarounds and little help once something breaks. Many are frustrated to learn that the warranty covers only the drum or motor, leaving failures involving parts such as control boards uncovered. Several say Maytag refused a refund or replacement.

Reviews about customer service and warranty

Many reviewers dislike the design of newer machines, citing Affresh reminders that lock the controls after clothes and detergent are loaded, inaccessible lint or clean-out filters, flimsy lid latches, excessive noise and frequent out-of-balance loads.

Reviews about design and usability

Repair service is a major source of frustration. Reviewers report repeated visits, technicians who cannot identify the problem and long waits for backordered control boards that leave them without a washer for weeks. Some machines still fail after repeated service.

I bought a Maytag dishwasher MDB4949SKZ "24 front control dishwasher with dual power filtration and powerbase cycle - 50dB" from Slyman Bros SOCO and it is the loudest dishwasher I've ever heard. Pops, clicks, bangs, clunks, swishing all for a 3 hour cycle! I have to leave the room and close the door. It cleans ok, but it makes more noise than 50dB!! I hate it.

We purchased a Maytag front loader from a reputable company in Frederick Maryland. After two service appointments I called the Maytag service number,,, the washer was moving away from the wall and to the side. We purchased a riser for the washer and was told that this was the problem. Bray and Scraff is the company that we purchased the machine and riser from and they would take no responsibility for either replacing the riser or would not accept it as a return! My husband ended placing weights in the riser drawer to help with the shifting during the spin cycle!!

The machine is level from back to front and side to side, Our previous Maytag front loader also had a riser and never moved or vibrated .,,, I’m very disappointed in the company’s customer service. I was told by the salesman that I loaded the machine incorrectly..,, I’ve been using Maytag products for 50 years and never had any problems until now. I’m really hesitant to order a matching dryer at this time.

Bought the "most trusted laundry made in the USA". The corp. Doesn't make the lonely serviceman anymore. Why.... Read on. Well after Whirlpool corp. stole the tech from Fisher & Paykel (New Zealand), They went and did the quintessential US capitalist move.... Charge twice as much, make it break just after a prepaid extended warranty! Yep that's what happened. I've sold appliances for three years...and I studied those manufacturers for 20 years. And Maytag, whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire and several other brand names. Fall under the corporate greed of whirlpool. "The corporation" does not care, just keep buyin' is what I heard. The new slogan. And it's mine, look up my name. "Buy Maytag you lose".

Home Depot customer service lady did not do her job and same day delivered told me I had to have Maytag fix it. I told her it was just delivered a few hours ago. Reported it day one delivered Model: MTW6205RW1 Serial number CF0800829. Maytag sent out 3 repair people and still does not work. I have a 10 year warranty they refuse to honor and Exe Manager of Maytag said I had to pay $150.00 to have repairman return. Exec would not allow me to tell my side of the story. She was very rude. Do not purchase this $1000.00 washing machine as it will not work on all 10 settings.

Bought a Maytag MVW5430 top-load washer in April of 24. It stopped at the rinse cycle and would not drain, and the lid stayed locked. After a bout with Maytag, they replaced it with the same model. A little over a year later, the replacement did the same thing. I contacted Maytag, and they said it was out of warranty and would not be covered, so we had it fixed, costing 300 dollars, and now less than a year after that repair, it is doing the same thing. Called Maytag, and basically they said Sorry you are having this issue again and to call for service. I now know why the Maytag man is no longer in commercials, because he used to sit around because the machines wouldn't break down; now he is too busy because they won't stay working. Maytag is a bad deal; don't buy one.

This has been the worst washer and dryer I have ever owned, in fact the worst appliance period!! Every since these brand new appliances arrived, they have not worked well. I have had the repair company out multiple times for having to replace parts on the dryer and now waiting for them to come back for the washer and the dryer. The washer is getting stuck with errors and every load I have to run a separate drain and spin cycle because the clothes are too wet to remove from the washing machine, not to mention it takes 2 to 5 hours to complete one cycle.

We thought we were getting a good quality washer and dryer when we purchased them in November of 2025. (Model # MTW6200RF0) Not even a year. It started to not drain all the way and then just stopped working. We have had Maytag appliance repair come out 10 times and diagnose and then replace parts after parts and still doesn't work, while my washer sits not working filled with water in the basin. It hasn't even been a year since we bought it, worst customer service ever, always have to call them to see if they have the supposedly part, no compensation at all. What the hell is the warranty for if you don't get the service or the a replacement. They said that it's not their call. Bought it at Home Depot and they won't help with anything, no take backs. I have been without a washer for 2 almost 3 months. Would not be surprised if a class action lawsuit results from all the complaints ahead of me.

My elderly mother recently purchased a Maytag top-loading washing machine, having an affinity for previously owned models, but this new machine has been anything, but reliable or durable. The first breakdown occurred in less than 30 days of use, and it took 2.5 weeks to fix the problem. That is a bit of time to go without a working, brand-new washing machine. The service technicians stated they have had all kinds of problems with this unit and ultimately discovered another broken part due to shipping mishandling. Now what appears to be the same problem is happening again, and we are told the earliest they can come look at it is 7 days from now, and if they don't have the part(s) on hand, which they didn't last time, it will be yet another week before it's fixed. This is completely unacceptable, especially for a new unit that has been used for less than 3 months. Absolutely do not purchase model# MTW5205TW1.

I purchased my Maytag washer on 05/01/2026, and it has already been broken for over a month. For a product that is not even six months old, this is completely unacceptable. When I contacted Maytag for help, I was told that I had to go through a third-party repair company, JD Services of Hobbs. I have now been dealing with this repair process for approximately a month and a half, and I am STILL without a working washing machine. I have repeatedly been told that they are waiting on parts. A month and a half is an unreasonable amount of time to wait for parts for a major household appliance. At this point, I have spent far more time dealing with this problem than I ever should have had to.

What is especially frustrating is that Maytag continues to hide behind the third-party repair company instead of taking responsibility for a defective product and making sure their customer actually receives a working appliance. I bought a Maytag expecting reliability and quality. Instead, I have been left without a functioning washer and with no acceptable resolution.

A washing machine is not a luxury item for most families — it is a necessity. Being without one for this long because Maytag and its repair provider cannot get the necessary parts is completely unacceptable. Maytag needs to do better. I don’t want another excuse about waiting on parts. I want my washer repaired promptly or replaced with a working machine. After this experience, I will seriously think twice before purchasing another Maytag appliance.

MAYTAG — THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I have owned a Maytag MFW7020RF washer for ONLY 1 YEAR AND 6 MONTHS, and it is now COMPLETELY DEAD. It will not turn on AT ALL. But honestly, the washer breaking is only HALF the problem. YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. I have now been on hold for OVER AN HOUR and have been transferred to FIVE DIFFERENT PEOPLE — FIVE! — and I STILL do not have a resolution. Five different people. Over an hour on the phone. Repeatedly explaining the same problem. Being transferred around like nobody wants to take responsibility. WHAT KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THIS?

This is absolutely ridiculous for a company the size of Maytag. When a customer has an appliance that is only 16 months old and completely stops working, I should NOT have to spend hours of my day fighting just to get someone to help me. And SHAME ON MAYTAG'S CORPORATE OFFICE for allowing customers to be treated this way.

You sell expensive appliances and expect customers to trust your brand. That trust works BOTH ways. When your product fails, your company should stand behind it and actually provide customer service — not make customers sit on hold for hours and bounce between five different representatives with no resolution. I am beyond frustrated and completely disgusted with the way this has been handled. MAYTAG, YOU NEED TO DO BETTER. I want this issue addressed, I want someone to take ownership of this problem, and I want a resolution — NOT ANOTHER TRANSFER, NOT ANOTHER HOLD, AND NOT ANOTHER EXCUSE. 0 Starts if possible. My ex wife has a MVW6500MBK0 PetPro washer that is the worst washer I have ever seen. After a few years of owning the water has nearly completely stopped being added to the washer causing constant F8E1 Error Codes, but only showing it when I entered the diagnostics mode. All external inlet lines and valves are working properly and when I opened up the machine I noticed the Water Inlet Valve (part number W11096267) was the most likely culprit and most likely had failed Cold/Hot water valves. I was curious though as to why her Washer did not have the 5th connecting wire configuration that the original part seemed to require (5th port underside of the part assembly).

I looked through all of the wiring on the machine and there is no 5th wire that attaches to the part. I come to find out after hours of research that some models do not require the 5th wire. When I went to Maytag Website they don't tell you which machines the parts are compatible with, only which parts are approved replacement parts for the existing part. So I purchased the replacement which Maytag Parts lists as W11165546. But I grew suspicious at all of the negative reviews that are on multiple websites and an estimated greater than 10% of customers had failed washers with no help from Maytag within 1-2 years of their purchase with similar problems. I asked Google Ai "can w11096267 be used with mvw6500mbk0" and this is what it says:

"No, part number W11096267 cannot be used with the Maytag washer model MVW6500MBK0. [1] (**)The W11096267 is an older water inlet valve style designed for specific Whirlpool, Maytag, and Kenmore high-efficiency / Cabrio-platform washing machines. [1] (**), [2] (**)Your Maytag Pet Pro MVW6500MBK0 washer uses a completely different physical layout. The exact correct water inlet valve for your machine is part number W11614515. [1] (**), [2] (**), [3] (**)"

Why? Maytag is seemingly shipping out incorrectly manufactured washers using incompatible parts that fail frequently for 10% (or more) of customers and then providing no, or limited support. Their website seems intentionally vague and unclear as the what the correct replacement part is, wasting consumers' time and money by reordering another incorrect replacement part. Only through researching other websites did I determine that the correct part, W11614515, for her washer does not include the 5th wire connector and the original wrong part, W11096267, that Maytag installed is the root cause of her F8E1 Error.

This error occurred at the time of manufacturing and it seems no one is holding Maytag/Whirlpool accountable. Reading the customer reviews on retail websites and seeing Maytag's customer service responses indicate to me that they are running an Extended Warranty racket by shipping out units that are knowingly built with incompatible parts. I wish someone would start a class-action to get people the $2000-2500 they probably dumped on this set of trash washer/dryer, and extra energy costs due to the amount of extra energy consumed with excessively long/failed fill cycles as a result.

I live in eastern Oklahoma which is very near the Bentonville/Fayetteville area where there is a Maytag field service representative (FSR).

I was informed by that office that it is forbidden from crossing the state line, even though I live within 6 miles of the state line and only 30 miles from Fayetteville. Maytag informed me that they have no FSR in this area and left me to find my own resolution. I removed the door and took it to the FSR, and now we are still waiting on repair parts. They have agreed to replace the washing machine.

      Original Review: Sept. 9, 2026

Our experience with our Maytag top-load washer has been extremely disappointing. We purchased the washer in late July 2025. Within the very first month, it stopped draining. A service technician diagnosed a failed pump and told us the pump was defective from the factory. It was replaced. Approximately six months later, the washer experienced the same problem again. During the second round of repairs, we were told that the replacement pump had been installed incorrectly. Another part was ordered, but that did not solve the problem. Eventually, the motherboard/control board also had to be replaced. It took approximately two months from the time we reported that failure until the washer was finally working properly again. Now, approximately six months later, the draining problem has returned for a third time.

This washer is only a little over a year old. During that short period, we've experienced three incidents involving essentially the same problem, multiple replacement parts, a pump replacement and a control board replacement. We purchased Maytag because we expected a dependable appliance that would last for years—not a washing machine requiring repeated service calls almost from the day we bought it. After everything that has already been repaired or replaced, we have very little confidence in the long-term reliability of this machine. At this point, we believe Maytag should stand behind the product and replace the washer rather than continuing to repair a machine that has repeatedly failed since shortly after it was purchased. Based on our experience with this washer, we would have a very difficult time recommending Maytag.

Very disappointed with Maytag and their customer service. I purchased a Maytag washer less than one year ago, expecting the reliability and quality associated with the brand. The washer developed a problem and required a repair. Because of the timeframe Maytag offered for service and because I needed to use the washer, I had the repair completed at my own expense. Unfortunately, the same problem has returned only one month after that repair.

What is particularly frustrating is that this does not appear to be an isolated issue. There are multiple YouTube videos addressing this same problem, including instructions for resetting the washer, reading the error codes, and replacing the solenoid. While those videos may be helpful to some consumers, I do not believe I should have to become an appliance repair technician or keep replacement parts such as solenoids in my home just to make a less-than-one-year-old washer

function when I need it. I also purchased a second washer of the same type for my daughter’s house while she is away at college because I trusted Maytag and believed I was purchasing a reliable product. I now regret putting that level of confidence in the brand.

Despite the washer being less than a year old and having already required a repair, Maytag customer service wants to send another repair technician rather than allow a return or replacement. I have already experienced the inconvenience of a defective appliance and paid out of pocket for the previous repair because of the service timeframe. I should not have to continue going through repeated repairs on a relatively new appliance. At this point, I am asking Maytag to stand behind its product and provide a replacement or return rather than another repair attempt. I purchased Maytag because I expected reliability—not an appliance that requires troubleshooting, replacement parts, and repeated service just to keep it operating. This experience has seriously damaged my confidence in Maytag. I purchased a second washer of the same type because I trusted the brand. I would have a very difficult time recommending Maytag to anyone based on this experience.

I purchased a Maytag washer January 2025 and I am having mechanical issues. It goes from sensing to done. I called Whirlpool and they want me to pay $350 to fix it. I thought Maytag was the best but it isn’t. She wanted to know if I had purchased an extended warranty and I said no. Person shouldn’t have to. The washing machine should last longer than a year and a half. It upsets me that they couldn’t do more to stand behind this washing machine.

I recently purchased a “pet pro” washing machine because, obviously I have pets…?? My question would be - what rocket scientist at Maytag thought that removing the clean out opening on the front of the machine was a stellar idea…?? Even after actively and vigorously shaking out fabrics that have been in contact with pets there will always be an amount of pet hair that will find its way into the machine. In the good ol days a person could periodically open up the little door and clean the pump out and continue on their happy way, but now we cannot be trusted to perform such a delicate process and for our own good the option has been removed as not to temp a person as inept as myself to complete….?? Seriously Maytag? I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during that board meeting- Just FYI I am planning on returning to washing my clothes in a creek over stone and save the time, money and aggravation…

I thought I'd go on here and write a review about Maytag gas dryers and may tag themself. I will start out to say do not buy a Maytag. Piece of crap. I bought a washer and dryer set from Maytag. My dryer which is a gas dryer did not work when it got delivered. I will say Lowe's send a new one the next day. That was awesome. It's almost a year now and the dryer started making all these banging noises. I'm going to see if I can put a video on here but anyway took me 2 hours to get through to Maytag Customer service. Horrible. Finally did they send a repair person. Now listen to it. Ordered a new drum. Came two days later which was awesome. Put the new drum in and it sounded even worse so they replaced the rollers and the motor and it's still loud as hell.

I sent it off to Maytag Customer Service. They say warranty doesn't cover noise. Let me tell you you can't sit in the room and the dryers down the hall it's so loud. So I thought I'd just get on here and tell everybody do not buy Maytag. Their customer service stinks. Their products stinks and a model number for the dryer is MGD450MW1. Stay away from it. Matter fact stay away from all the Maytag crap.

I purchased a Maytag washer 3 years ago. I’ve hated it since the day I got it. It’s very loud & have had service out twice for problems. Today, another problem won’t start up. Unless you take out an extended warranty they will not stand behind their product. There is only 2 people in the house so is not used much. It’s going on the tree lawn. I will NEVER buy another Maytag. Yes, I called Maytag & where I bought it. Sure they will send someone out but for a cost. I’d rather toss it than spend money on it since it will probably break again. It’s got me sick that after 3 years have to buy another one. It’s a lemon.

Purchased a new Maytag washer/dryer set from Menards and the washer leaked the first time we used it. Called Menards CSR and they apologized. The said that they would deliver a new one. It took 3 days, but they did deliver another new washer. Went to use it... Leaked again. Both brand new washers leaked from the tub area. It is simply unacceptable that Maytag would not only produce such defective products but also allow them past their "quality control". Returned both to Menards for a full refund. I will never purchase anything from Whirlpool/Maytag again. It's really sad because Maytag appliances used to be the gold standard for reliability.

I bought a matching washer and dryer set DIRECTLY from Maytag’s website on August 6, assuming buying from the manufacturer would mean a seamless experience. I was completely wrong. We had to take a full day off work to be home for the scheduled delivery today. The delivery team arrived and only had the washer, explicitly admitting that the missing dryer was entirely Maytag’s fulfillment error. Because of their mistake, we have no way to dry our clothes and are forced to spend our free time and extra money at a local laundromat. Furthermore, we would have had to take a second day off work just to receive the delayed dryer. Now, because of how this was handled, we are forced to take yet ANOTHER day off work just to sit at home so they can pick up the washer. That is multiple days of completely wasted PTO and lost wages because of Maytag's incompetence.

When I called Maytag customer service to locate the missing half of our order, I was offered insulting compensation and a vague 48-business-hour window just to get a status email. I called back, waited on hold for 45 minutes, and asked for a supervisor. After another 10-minute hold, Supervisor Leslie came on the line. Leslie showed a total lack of respect. She was incredibly rude, spoke over me, and refused to offer any meaningful help or a firm timeline. When I told her that if she couldn't give me a delivery timeframe or proper compensation to just cancel the order, she dismissively said "that's fine" and immediately pulled the plug on the transaction. She scheduled a pickup for the washer, and then dropped a bomb: Maytag will be holding our thousands of dollars hostage for up to 30 days due to their internal "billing cycle."

As of right now, the only communication I have received from Maytag is a confirmation that they are coming to take back the washer. No cancellation confirmation, no refund receipt, nothing. Maytag messed up the order, cost us days of work, left us with no appliances, and treats paying customers like garbage. Do not buy direct from their website.

I scheduled for my dryer to get fixed. I purchased it on December 7th 26. It broke in April of 27. They scheduled a service provider to come out. The provider canceled 2 times then never showed the 3rd. Then in July 2026 my washer broke. I called to schedule someone to fix my washer and dryer yet again. Same thing the people they were sending out after waiting 2 weeks for an appointment canceled. I called Maytag to see about getting a different service provider. They basically told me no they couldn't. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told someone would call me back in a day or 2. Terrible experience and terrible washer and dryer. I should have went with a GE.

I just received my new Maytag washer today. I called the registration number provided, and the "salesperson" (who was obviously NOT a customer service representative) immediately started badmouthing Best Buy (where I purchased the appliance) and told me that the 5-year unlimited warranty was in fact, absolute garbage and proceeded to list all the limitations on the warranty. I responded that the representative at Best Buy told us that this is a 5-year unlimited warranty which includes parts and labor. He said that they lied to me. He said Best Buy is notorious for lying about the warranty. I quickly realized that his scam was to sell me a "better" warranty. WHAT A SCUMBAG!!!!! I called back a second time and got the exact same routine. This is MAYTAG, not just some rogue operator.

I contacted Maytag because my dryer had condensation on the inside dryer door window as well as small water puddles in the dryer drum. The technician sent to my house Paul did the least to resolve my issue. He used a tester to see if the dryer vent was clogged then left. His tester only measured air only however my other cycles are not working properly. I spent $392.20 for a technician to do absolutely nothing.

Maytag washer is the worst I've ever owned. Just over 2 years old and needs a control panel - this will be control panel #3. Original was replaced at 4 months (Under warranty) and now needs to be replaced again along with a pump. The washer has NEVER worked effectively, either leaves load sopping wet and needs to be drained and spun again, or gets "stuck" at 1 minute or 15 minutes and just keeps running. When I shut off manually the load is done. I personally have enough to do in life without babysitting my washing machine to be sure it stops. When it continues to run I'm thinking this is causing excessive wear and tear on an already bad machine. Additionally, if anything gets stuck in the machine you need a technician to come out and service, unless you are savvy and strong enough to lift the machine and take it apart to access where to unclog.

Why not have a door in the front like other brands?? Maytag does not stand behind their products. I've read countless reviews with same exact issues. Customer service basically told me it is my own fault for not calling them for service, but I purchased through a Maytag dealer certified for sales and service. They offered me a 20% discount on a new model. What an insult! To me that is them basically admitting their product doesn't work but trying to get me to buy another. My relationship with this washer is like a bad high school relationship and it is time to break up! DO NOT BUY MAYTAG or Whirlpool for that matter because they are the same company!

Parts are not available and the magnet trick didn't work. As far as I know you cannot bypass this lock. I bought Maytag because I thought it was quality, I was wrong! It's nothing but JUNK. Washer model MVW4505MW1. Dryer model MED4500MW0.

My washer came on time but I found out the washer they sent me is the wrong washer. I've spent over 20 phone calls Plus to Maytag you can't speak to a human, it just takes you from computer to computer and you sit on hold forever. I tried the corporate office, they're useless. All they do is send you back into their same old dumb line and you go back on the computer and sit on hold. I am trying to get the washer returned and the correct one delivered but this is become impossible. If I knew Whirlpool and Maytag were merged and looked up the problems they have the biggest complaint is their phone system you can't speak to a human. And their call back system that's a joke. If I can't get a response from them I am going to go through the bank and get a chargeback and get another washer somewhere else. Washer MTW4205SW.

Horrible. A waste of time and money. I just added my Gain to the machine, and I left the top open for a few minutes to go take the sheets off of my bed and as I'm walking back, I hear the water draining mostly full of water and all my damn Gain down the drain. That's at least 20.00 worth of water and 4.00 worth of Gain.
