My monthly payment is now about $242, not $189. When I asked Teddy why it increased and when it would return to what I was promised, he blamed the old plan and more panels. I was originally told I would have 14 panels. Solar Negotiators later told me they accidentally installed 17, but that I would not be charged extra and that the extra panels would allow me to overproduce. So why did my payment increase?

I was also told I had a backup battery. I do not. My power has gone out three times, and I was locked out of my home twice. I believed I had backup power because I was told I had a battery. I later discovered no backup battery was there. When I talk to Teddy about these issues, I have been told, “Sorry for the misunderstanding” and that if I had “asked more questions,” he would have explained more about the financial side.

How is a customer supposed to know every question to ask? I trusted Teddy and Solar Negotiators to explain the cost, financing, equipment, and long-term impact. I should not have to be a solar expert to understand this. Important information was not disclosed properly, completely, truthfully, and upfront. I scheduled two panel-cleaning appointments. Both times, no one came on the scheduled day, yet I was told the panels had been cleaned. One appointment was September 3. I called on September 3 and 4 because no one came. A manager told me his staff completed the cleaning and emailed pictures as proof. The pictures were NOT of my house.

He said the workers entered my address into GPS, and it took them to the wrong house. During our call, he entered my address, and it took him to the correct house. I received no appointment-time message, “on the way” notification, knock, receipt, or confirmation. The manager said they would return the next week. I said it had to be Friday because I would be home. They did not come Friday; they came Wednesday while I was at work. They missed the other side of my house where I have more panels. The panels they did clean still had dust marks and looked simply wiped down.

This is not one “misunderstanding.” I repeatedly asked for a final number and never received one. I made numerous extra calls for answers. I would not have discovered the $107,000 balance if I were not selling my home. I was told the three extra panels were free because they were the company’s mistake, and I was told I had a backup battery when I do not. And after all of this, I am being told I should have “asked more questions.”

I DID ask questions. I asked for clarity, the final cost, and why my payment changed. I called repeatedly. I trusted the answers. Had I known I could owe about $107,000, pay $242 a month, and not have the backup battery I was told I had, I would have made a different decision. Based on my experience, I would NOT recommend Solar Negotiators. Be extremely cautious about relying on what Teddy tells you without verifying every detail and getting it in writing.

Do not trust verbal promises. Ask MORE questions than you think you need to ask. Ask for the total amount financed, what you will owe if you sell your home, whether your payment can increase, exactly how many panels, what equipment is included, whether you truly have a backup battery, and get every promise and number in writing. If Teddy or anyone else tells you something verbally, get it in writing before you agree to anything. “Sorry for the misunderstanding” and telling me I should have “asked more questions” is not enough when we are talking about tens of thousands of dollars. Important information should be disclosed properly, truthfully, completely, and UPFRONT.
