Could Disney+ be coming to Kroger? Companies hint at streaming partnership.

Another service your cup of tea? There may be options there, too.

We don’t even have to ask this question, but if you could get Disney+ for free and a few strings attached, would you take it or take off the attached strings and opt for the current price of about $100 a year?

Assuming you voted for the “free plus strings attached” version, you may be in luck – if you’re a Kroger shopper, or if you’re willing to become a Kroger shopper.

The brass at Disney+ are said to be considering a partnership with the supermarket giant to add its streaming subscription service tied to “Kroger Boost,” the grocery chain’s home delivery service.

The deal, as reported by Bloomberg News, would make Disney+ free of charge for 12 months, similar to what Walmart did with Paramount+.

There’s no ink on paper yet, but the possibilities may be too good for Disney to pass up, since its subscriber base in the U.S. is down some 400,000 from last September.

Disney+ appears to like these kinds of arrangements and this deal with Kroger will be the platform's second retail partnership after its launch deal with Verizon, which gave its wireless subscribers a free year of the streaming service. The Mouse also tempted consumers with a limited-time discount of $40 to Walmart+ subscribers last December.

Deals with streaming services come and go and, as of early May 2024, there aren't many widely advertised promotional deals, but here are a few options to consider:

Paramount Plus + Showtime Bundle: This plan gets you access to both the Paramount Plus and Showtime libraries for a single price, which can be a good deal if you're interested in both services. And now may be a good time to jump on that given that Paramount has been on-again, off-again in the “for sale” world.

Sling TV: They don't currently have the introductory 50% discount, but you can save $30 by prepaying for the first three months. Sling TV also offers deals on other streaming services like Discovery Plus and AMC Plus.

Philo: This service has a pretty substantial line-up and offers a stream of 70+ TV channels for just $25/month, and currently offers a standard 7-day free trial.

FuboTV: Fubo also has a 7-day trial period, but offers a minimum of 187 live channels, which could be a more extensive option for cord-cutters.
