What is International Van Lines?

International Van Lines is a licensed moving company that offers a wide variety of services for individuals and families. Customers can choose from services like packing, storage, vehicle shipping and freight transportation, depending on the scope of their move. The company also assigns relocation coordinators to help manage scheduling, logistics and communication throughout the moving process.

International Van Lines services

International Van Lines offers local, long-distance and international moves. Its team provides full-service door-to-door or port-to-port moving solutions. As a licensed freight forwarder, International Van Lines maintains direct contracts with leading ocean carriers in order to provide competitive pricing for international moves. The company also offers freight and air moving solutions.

It pairs customers with relocation coordinators to plan the details of their move. You can schedule an in-person or virtual walk-through to get a more accurate quote and plan.

How international moving works with IVL

If you book an international move with International Van Lines, here’s what the process will typically look like:

  1. Contact IVL for a quote.
  2. Discuss move size, international destination and which type of move you want (door-to-door or port-to-port).
  3. IVL will provide a move estimate based on an in-person or virtual home walk-through.
  4. Book your move.
  5. Your items will be picked up and transported to their international destination. IVL will help navigate you through what you need for customs clearance and any port-related charges.
  6. Final delivery.

International Van Lines moving costs

The cost of International Van Lines’ services can range widely from customer to customer — a local move, for example, could cost a quarter of the price of a long-distance one. For easy access to pricing info, you can request a free quote.

Here are some cost ranges International Van Lines has listed on its website for a long-distance move.

Number of bedroomsEstimated moving cost
1$1,650 to $2,100
2$2,300 to $2,950
3$3,300 to $4,700
4$4,600 to $6,500
5$7,500 to $10,000

To hold the date after you get your quote, you’ll have to pay a deposit of about 25% of the total cost of the quote. If you need to cancel, the company refunds 100% of the deposit paid (up to 48 hours before the scheduled pickup).

The gentleman we worked with was Rick who was contracted by International Van Lines. Rick was a life saver. My wife and I flew out to Las Vegas to move our daughter back to Coral Spring, FL. When we arrived we found that the original trucking company, U-Pack did not deliver the trailer for the movers to load. Rick located a person at U-Haul he knew and had their U-Boxes at the work site within 2 hours. We were able to complete the move on-time and on budget. If it wasn't for Rick and his team we would not have been able to move that weekend. I can't thank him enough for his willingness to step in and take control of the process and get us packed up and moved. Again, I can say enough about these guys.

My household hired the International Van Lines team for a move across town, and it could not have been quicker and more efficient. The moving team of Jon, Mike, David, and Steve showed up on time (actually a bit early) and worked like true pros. They transported heavy boxes and large furniture with ease and care -- nothing was damaged in transit. Multiple stairs and walk-ups were no problem. And the moving team members were very personable and pleasant, making the moving day less stressful and dare I say fun. We felt like were in good hands the whole day and even finished the move a lot earlier than expected.

International Van Lines was recommended by a friend who moved cross-country, and we called them. The reps who packed up the house were great, but before they did, a video was done. It was worthless because it didn’t end up being what they thought it would be. There were more cubic feet. I had some communication problems with the lead person of that group, and also with the people I was dealing with on the phone at the time. They were very abrupt and rude with me, and it got ugly. But we were already in the process. The guy that I spoke with told me a certain amount of money down and what was acceptable. Then, the guy who was in charge told me something else when they came to pick everything up. We had to wait and get in touch with the guy on the phone. It was very chaotic. The person on the phone was rude.

The woman I dealt with was a little more understanding, but not very good. What saved it for me with International Van Lines were Jen and Luis. We had to use storage for six months and Luis sent me a lovely email on what to do when we were ready to have the stuff transported. Jen was fabulous. She communicated with me and was courteous and kind. She was encouraging and understanding of my anxiety about having my stuff halfway across the country. Now, we’re waiting on Mario, who will be delivering our stuff. He has also been very nice.

Outstanding work by everyone who I had the pleasure of communicating with from this company. We've never been so please with movers like IVL from Florida to New York! Price couldn't be better and they deserve a 10/10 from myself and my family for the dedication they have for each family's move they take part in! I will use again and I can't wait for my sister to use them as well to be part of the calmness they bring. Outstanding work by each and every one of these guys who helps us (sorry I can't remember names but I wish I could).

I could not have asked for a better experience! The three men who helped move our two apartments to a new location were efficient, pleasant and incredibly careful. They made a really stressful experience a breeze. I can’t believe I’ve never used movers in the past, but International Van Lines has made me a convert. If I ever have to move again (which I hope is not soon), I will absolutely use International Van Lines! I highly recommend their service!!! Do yourself a favor and just give them a call - you definitely won’t regret it.

I am filing this complaint against International Van Lines / Ocean Star International Inc. regarding IVL File/Ref. **. My wife and I contracted with IVL for an international household-goods move from the United States to our home in Alassio, Italy. IVL’s own invoice identifies the service as “Door to Door / 20' Container.” IVL charged $14,995 for the door-to-door move, plus insurance, storage, and related fees, for a total of $18,906.77. IVL’s invoice confirms the full amount was paid and the amount due was $0.00.

After arrival in Italy, IVL’s destination-side agent/subcontractor, Bliss Moving & Logistics Srl, demanded additional payments. We paid/incurred substantial extra charges, including €1,953.66 invoiced by Bliss on May 20, 2026, €3,550 paid directly to Hapag-Lloyd on or about June 17, 2026 for demurrage/detention, and €1,408.28 wired to Bliss on July 2, 2026 through Mercury, with a total USD debit of $1,628.32. In total, we have paid $18,906.77 USD plus €6,911.94 EUR, approximately $26,820.27 USD.

Despite this, IVL/Bliss are now demanding another approximately €2,500 as a condition of delivering our household goods. We dispute this charge because it appears duplicative of IVL’s already-paid door-to-door delivery obligation. We also dispute the demurrage/detention charges. Customs cleared on or about May 18, 2026. Bliss/IVL should have immediately issued a correct invoice and complete wire instructions. Instead, Bliss did not issue the invoice until May 20, and the wire instructions were incorrect/incomplete.

Correct instructions were not provided until May 25, after Bliss accounting apologized in writing. During that period, approximately €150/day allegedly continued accruing against us. Our household goods remain withheld despite full payment and substantial additional payments. We have filed an FBI IC3 report regarding the post-payment demands, wire issues, and withholding/non-delivery. IC3 Submission ID: **.

I would not recommend International Van Lines based on my recent cross-country move. I was told explicitly, both in my contract and on the phone, that IVL does not use brokers and that my move would be handled by their own registered movers. That was not true — the delivery was handled by a third-party driver operating his own truck, who told me directly he doesn't work for IVL.

My delivery window was 8:00–11:00 AM. At 11:10 AM the driver called to say he'd overslept at a truck stop. He didn't actually arrive until roughly 2:20 PM — over three hours late. He also showed up alone, without the helper he'd arranged, so I ended up doing more than half of the physical unloading myself, over about 5.5 hours. On top of that, boxes were not placed in the labeled rooms as promised, and multiple items were damaged in transit: a standing desk destroyed, a dresser leg snapped off, a lamp bent, and wall décor broken.

I was also quoted and given a binding price, which was reversed to a higher number at pickup and justified with a vague "±10% tolerance" clause that didn't actually support the increase. And rather than paying IVL directly, I was repeatedly asked to send payments — thousands of dollars — via Venmo to personal email addresses I didn't recognize, which in hindsight is a major red flag for undisclosed broker/subcontractor use. IVL has a good BBB rating and a long track record, which is why I chose them — but my actual experience was disorganized, unprofessional, and not what was represented at booking. If you're evaluating them, ask in writing (not just verbally) exactly who will be handling pickup and delivery, and don't assume a binding quote will hold.

I would strongly caution anyone considering International Van Lines based on our experience. The sales process started off great. Justin, our primary contact (also the owner…should have been a red flag…considering the owner is taking sales calls on a weekend) was extremely responsive while we were obtaining quotes and discussing our move. Unfortunately, that changed dramatically once our deposit was paid. It felt like once they had our money, Justin became completely MIA. Our original packing and pickup date was scheduled for June 7, but the day before the move we were notified it would be delayed until June 8 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. We accepted the change because we had no choice. Our lease was ending, and we had to be out of our home on time.

June 8 arrived, and no movers showed up. By noon, we still had not received any communication. We repeatedly called, emailed, and texted Justin and the company requesting an update. The same person who had been so responsive during the sales process was suddenly impossible to reach. We received no meaningful communication from management during one of the most stressful days of our move. Eventually, the assigned driver called and informed us that the truck had broken down and was being repaired. He explained there was no guarantee the truck would be fixed that day and asked if we could postpone the move until June 9. That simply wasn't possible. Our lease was ending, and we had to completely vacate our three-bedroom home.

Waiting another day would have created significant financial and logistical problems. After hours of trying unsuccessfully to reach the company, we had no choice but to hire another moving company that could step in the same day and complete the move. Only after we formally canceled our services and requested a refund did someone from International Van Lines finally contact us. We were then told a crew was supposedly "45 minutes away". This was extremely frustrating because no moving truck or crew ever arrived at our home. The biggest issue wasn't simply the delay. It was the complete lack of communication and accountability during a time-sensitive move.

When you're moving your entire household across state lines, you need a company that communicates honestly and follows through on its commitments. Our experience was stressful, disappointing, and ultimately forced us to pay another moving company to complete the job. If you're considering International Van Lines, I encourage you to carefully evaluate whether you're comfortable paying a substantial deposit before services are actually performed. Our experience was that communication was excellent before payment, but once the deposit was received, it became extremely difficult to get timely responses when we needed them most. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I cannot recommend this company.

      Response from International Van Lines
      Anthony,

We are sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I have management looking into the issue so it can be resolved immediately. Additionally, you have made a false statement in your review: Justin is not the owner of the company; he is a relocation coordinator who has been with the company for many years, so I am not sure where you are getting this. A simple Google search will reveal the facts. Lastly, some items mentioned in your review don't align with the emails and phone calls I listened to. Regardless, we are not happy to see that you are dissatisfied, and we will reach out to try to resolve the issue.
