I don't know how an insurance company is allowed to operate like this. It's effectively a scam. Last year I was looking for a new plan, researched through Delta Dental's website to see if there was a dentist that took the insurance in this area. There was one on the map, so I signed up for a policy (for this plan you have to pay a year ahead of time). I paid, but the policy couldn't start until the following month. After that month I called the dentist to make an appointment and they told me they didn't accept that insurance.

Delta dental is a complete waste of money. If you need any real work done, AVOID DELTA! They will take your money and deny most claims. DELTA DENTAL SUCKS!!

Terrible Insurance. Good only for preventative care. Not enough or no in network specialists, denies claims with referrals for procedures not able to be done by assigned dentist inept customer service and increasing higher out of pocket cost for patient. I have heard the CEO gave himself a 30% raise while cutting care by 30%. Do not buy dental coverage from Delta Dental. If you do you will get screwed.

My out of pocket costs have gone from $90 to $900 every 6 months with this garbage insurance.

Just received a note from my dentist about Delta and how I may have to pay up first. Who would run a ** company like this. The executives should be tarred and feathered.

They are not paying my dentist. Called many times. I ended up paying the Bill. This needs to be looked at.

I had thousands of dollars spent on my teeth. My dentist was awesome. 👌I went to Delta in Yakima. I need teeth pulled, but they said, no guarantee they will pull my thousands of dollars of porcelain crowns next to the bad tooth. Gaslighting me. Saying "you would have to sell your house to pay for help."

Delta Dental only pays your dentist or orthodontist once a year and if you have any break in coverage they won’t pay a thing if they have not yet paid. Paying annually puts you the customer at risks. Their call center reps give inconsistent information and if you ask for a sup they refuse to and just give you other reps on an escalation team. If you have that many complaints you have an escalation team it should be a red flag that your process needs improvement. Being a customer for decades means nothing as they don’t care about you. Been dealing with billing issues for months that they are overdue to pay and nobody is willing to solve it, just keep getting deferred. We pay monthly and they don’t pay until annually or even later and past due. Horrible service and billing

I have Delta Dental insurance and have suffered from severe teeth grinding during my sleep for years. The condition progressed to the point that my teeth no longer properly touched, making it extremely difficult to eat because of pain and not being able to tear food. After visiting my dentist, they reviewed my insurance coverage and informed me that Delta Dental would cover crowns for my front teeth because they were causing pain and were close to the nerve. Based on that information, I proceeded with the treatment and paid my portion of the cost. However, Delta Dental ultimately did not pay the amount that was expected, leaving me responsible for an additional $1,900 bill. This has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience. I hope someone knocks all their teeth out and they can't get coverage to fix them and they have to eat through a straw for the rest of their lives.

Garbage coverage, zero accountability. DO NOT purchase their coverage through the IL Marketplace; it covers nothing, not even basic cleansing.

Terrible coverage, paid for almost all of my Son's wisdom teeth surgery. I'd give them a zero if I could. They need to get up to the sign of the times, they are way behind.

They claim to pay 50% but always find some way to downgrade that so you have to pay more, for example by basing their 50% coverage on really old fashioned materials that dentists haven’t used in decades. I’ve been with them for years only because they are the only choice my employer gives, and DD has never once acted with any honor or integrity. They lie about what they cover and they will always find a way to steal more of your money.

I just signed up for Delta Dental Medicare plan. I need information on the PPO plan but website is useless. There is no way to get information after hours. The contact form sends you to faq pages. If this is how it is I would be better off trying to find a different company and pay the premiums. I can’t imagine how horrible the service would be when I need treatment. I have been to delta dentist before and all they do is try to upsell and they are very sketchy about how they present the estimates. It’s not about providing coverage but all about making as much money as they can. They could at least be available when working people are available to make phone calls. A huge waste of time and effort for nothing.

Horrible horrific customer service. Hold times over an hour… you just give up. They refuse to pay my dentist and I signed a letter of financial liability. After 4 months if Delta doesn’t pay .. I have to!!!!

Delta Dental was highly recommended to me, so imagine my disappointment when I go to my dentist to find they'd terminated my policy without providing me with any notice. I called and spoke to 3 different people to help me understand why I was not provided with notice; everyone was able to tell me it was terminated, but not why the policyholder was not informed. I had to take time off work for said dentist appointment that I couldn't even be seen for, and now I have to take more time off to reschedule due to the inconvenience. The reason given was for unsuccessful payment, however, after checking my statements, the funds were in said account. I was offered no compensation of any sorts, but was informed that I will receive any further updates that arise via phone call.

I am taking three stars because they told me something was covered for my son, and then after the visit, they decided it is not covered. An eight-hundred-dollar oops. You would think they want to prevent gum disease.

I have Delta Dental through my employer Delta Air Lines. I understand the two companies are not related even they are both Delta. I live in Syracuse NY. I could not find a dental surgeon, periodontist or endodontist that participate in this plan. Closest place that accepts this delta dental insurance is 66 miles away. I really have to drive an hour away like I live in a remote country-side or something. Benefits suck too, I have to pay a lot of money out of pocket since the coverage is so limited.

Rude phone operator, she told me to read off my member ID on my insurance card. And she cut me off by saying "NOPE. That's not it. That's not it." and I was confused. She said "It should have a 0 starting number." And I looked over and my member ID also starts with a 0, BUT I was reading one that started with three letters and a first number, but the rest of it is the same as the one that starts with a 0. I didn't like her cutting me off about that, and she kept talking over me and cutting me off. Very rude.

These guys will give you a hard time signing up for health insurance. They also have rude staff that hang up on you and will not help you with claims, setting up your health insurance login or even viewing your cards. They will request that you give the excessive amounts of personal information and then hang up on you if you obtain it. I spent 4 hours trying to set up this account and was very polite to staff members. Despite being kind and patient they continued to roadblock and give me a hard time even after doing everything they asked.

Delta Dental has to be the most unscrupulous dental insurance company in existence. After submitting by original claim, Delta Dental notified me that there was additional information that it needed to process the claim and to resubmit the claim with the additional information that was asked for which I complied to. After resubmitting the claim with the additional information that was asked for Delta Dental notified me that that there was more additional information that was needed to process the claim and for me to resubmit it again with that additional information which I complied to. Now Delta Dental is claiming they have no record of me resubmitting that. After reading the reviews of others I now realize that this is not a matter of incompetence but rather this is a matter of a big SCAM.

Good luck finding a dentist with their search feature. How can I put in a name when I don't know any of the dentists names/ locations in the area? This coverage (Medicare Advantage) is worthless. The card they sent might make a good bug scraper for your windshield though. Is this why the CEO of Delta Dental is making millions per year? Just another scam.

I got Delta Dental coverage solely because they offered implant coverage. The premium was a little on the high side, but I needed three implants done and figured it would be worth it. The policy required a one-year waiting period before any benefits would be paid, which I fulfilled. Finally the time came to get my implants done, at which point I discovered that Delta Dental does NOT pay for two implants side by side, but consider this a bridge, which pays virtually nothing. So after an outlay of over a couple of thousand dollars, I was able to receive $336.00 in benefits from this policy. To add insult to injury, when my implant coverage was denied, I tried to cancel my policy and was told that I could not but would need to continue to pay premium until the end of the policy term. I, like most, do not have money to throw away. I was out of pocket over $6000 for the implants and got no help from my insurance company.

My first experience with AARP was to join the AARP Delta Dental plan- before joining the policy I had multiple conversations with the Delta agent and was provided with erroneous information regarding the coverages that they provide. I also was sent the coverages by email, but it apparently did not contain all of the disclosures that I should have been provided. They LIE to get you to join and then screw you by not covering what they have said they did. I strongly recommended NOT to trust AARP and Delta Dental.

Zero stars would be more accurate. I've had to postpone a knee replacement because I need a root canal first (because of infection risks), and Delta Dental has made it impossible to find an endodontist who takes my Delta Dental USA plan. Delta's website tells me who my endodontists are, and it's just plain wrong. The endodontists say they don't take my plan when I call. I call Delta "customer service," and I'm told I can get the work done through an emergency form and a contract to pay the endodontist. The endodontists whose names I was given say they will not do the work under those conditions. Delta Dental is either incompetent or dishonest. Look for insurance some place else!

Had oral surgery March 30th all pre with and 3 months later denied, saying surgeon is out of network, I trusted that when dental office set it up with them it was ready. I even emailed them myself before procedure and the agent auth. 50% coverage, now nothing

I enrolled in Delta Dental in April 2021 and retained continual family coverage until December 31, 2025. I retired but I enrolled with Delta Dental on January 1, 2026 to keep continual coverage. My wife had some dental work done in March 2026 and the claims were denied due to a waiting period that excludes payment for major services for those covered less than 12 months. I filed an appeal with Delta Dental that was denied. I filed a complaint with the Florida Division of Consumer Services, but they took no action. My customer loyalty to Delta Dental did not pay off. They are claiming that we are subject to a new 12 month waiting period because we started a new Delta Dental policy due to a change in employment status. Hopefully if you are reading this you will pick another insurer.

Delta Dental is a complete scam and should cease to exist. I signed up for insurance three months ago and was assigned to the wrong facility. It took them three months and >10 calls for me to be reassigned and then when I was reassigned they told the new facility that they could no longer accept new customers from the HMO plan. Worst experience I have ever had with a company.

Be very careful if you have a primary insurance that pays for cleanings. Primary paid for cleaning and claimed that it was 100% covered. Dental office submitted claim to Delta and they say I owe $19. Primary paid $100 and Delta says they would have paid $119. So I’m to pay the $19 that they won’t. I even went to one of their PPO’s. Save yourself some money and put in in a separate fund instead. Getting claims from this co. is like pulling teeth!

We have been paying premiums ($180 for wife and son) for 6 months and recently my wife needed urgent crown work on a deteriorating tooth. Delta Dental said she had to wait another 6 months before they would cover any portion of the crown work! Thank God health insurance does not work this way! Absolutely horrible concept when an unexpected emergency occurs. We will just pay clinics directly for actual work performed and ditch delta dental. What a BS insurance provider!

Delta Dental reason for claim coverage is horrible. Having a surgical implant and they will not cover anesthesia even thought coverage show 90% coverage. If you have other company selection for dental insurance, we would strongly suggest you not use Delta Dental. Not only they make it difficult for you to file an appeal, they will make every effect to not pay for coverage that should be covered.

I had a wrong information. So I upgraded my to a better option paying 82 dollars/mo. After 3 month I called again and they said I will not be cover for an implant after 6 month. You don't know what to believe, a total waste of money. The customer service is really bad and even they charge my credit card monthly I get emails that I'm late for payments

A complete waste of money!! Absolutely Awful! Awful customer service, total avoidance in paying for claims. Delta Dental also gave me problems saying my orthodontics did not file their part of the claim correctly, and after spending days in calling back and forth, it turned out the claim was done properly- I ended up dropping it rather than keep paying to try get some properly due money back. Find some other insurance. I wish I had found this site before purchasing this insurance.

I am SO disappointed in Delta Dental that if my employer offered another provider I would LEAVE. I have contacted Delta Dental over the years for various dentists not doing quality work and leaving other dentists to try and fix the mess they created. I figured, after sitting in a chair for 4 hrs and being in immense pain with uncontrollable bleeding that it was time to take action. They couldn't care less! They are only concerned premiums and costs so the patient loses. SHAME ON YOU DELTA DENTAL.

Worthless company, no coverage, denies everything. If insurance had any concern for their customers, they would not partner with such fraudulent companies.

My fiancée had a tooth extracted over a year ago, which he paid out of pocket. It had not yet been a year since his plan began, so it was not covered. A few months ago he decided to get an implant to fill the space. The implant was finally put in last week, and he was notified yesterday that Delta Dental had denied his claim. Delta stated that the implant procedure was connected to the extraction he had over a year ago. Nope. No issues with extraction. However, Delta uses that to deny any claim he's filed.

This dental insurance has been the biggest waste of money and time I’ve ever had in insurance. Mind you, this is offered through my employer. The HMO policy isn’t accepted by ANY pediatric dentist in my area, then if you file a grievance, they send you an option, you call and the office themselves states that dentist doesn’t even see children. What a freaking scam. Don’t waste your time!

This has to be the worst experience of my life! Delta Dental I was told the #1 in Dental Insurance turn out to be the "Worst". They covered nothing as I was told, "I'm sorry this did not happen to you while you had our insurance...." ALWAYS AN ESCAPE CLAUSE!!! I WASTED SO MUCH MONEY EVERY MONTH!!!!

I paid $30 each month for nine months. 💸 My dental office called Delta dental and was told they covered annual teeth cleaning and xrays completely. ☺️Delta Dental paid NOTHING. 🥴I've canceled this dental insurance and will pay out of pocket as I'm blessed with good teeth.

Delta doesn't cover anything. Need REAL dental work done, like wisdom teeth, a bridge, a root canal? You're on your own, they don't cover it. They've also been over charging us almost double for the past few months, and now saying that one of the two people on our plan has no coverage. They're just like other insurance companies, out to take your money, but never there to pay up when the product they've sold you needs to be used. Forget them and just pay on your own, you'll be money ahead.
