It was extremely inconvenient to turn in a claim. I had to call customer service and be on the phone for almost an hour before someone finally emailed me the form I had to snail-mail to the claims department. All other companies allow this to be done online or by email. That alone was ridiculous. Then, I got a letter back saying the form wasn’t filled out all the way. It was, I had made a photocopy and double checked it. So I resubmitted it. Then, I got a notice saying they won’t be paying the claim, despite the services we received being expressly covered in our contract. This is not only a breach of contract on Aflac’s part but quite possibly a violation of the law. Our experience with Aflac has been nothing but terrible. This company is a scam. We will most definitely be telling everyone we know to stay away.

I would give 1/2 a star if I could. I had an Aflac dental policy for 20 years. For the first 18+ years they collected premiums from a paycheck allocation. When that was discontinued I gave them my checking account # and bank routing # for the monthly premium payments. They made a mistake and missed a # from my account # so my premiums were not paid for about 6 months. I caught the mistake, corrected it, and made back payments to cover the six months of missed premiums. During this time terminated my policy, then reinstated it, then failed to provide coverage towards a crown. Their justification was that the reinstatement made me a new customer. I put all the effort in to finding out what the problem was and to correct it.
Aflac could've cared less if I was a customer, even after being a customer for nearly 20 years! Their representatives gave me conflicting and inconsistent advice. Their website showed my policy effect date in 2005, not 2024. Not one person I ever spoke to mentioned there would be a one-year waiting period again. They used different terms interchangeably, like reinstate and reactivate, so I never knew if there was a difference. Horrible customer service. Pathetic for a multi billion dollar company to take advantage of customers.

This company is a scam outfit. I called and explained the dental treatment my son was having done in detail. They said their plan would cover up to $1200 max. For the work being done. I confirmed twice with them and then decided to sign up for their plan. Once my son had his dental work done, they denied all the claims except $50 on one. I was furious. I had to resend documentation 3 times... They kept losing it. My dental office even sent the info. Twice. Only after me tracking down the CEO on Linkedin I finally got some attention and they still didn't honor what their rep. Promised. They only paid out 1/2 of what they promised.
I obviously cancelled my policy. Funny the amount they paid out was almost identical to the amount I had been paying over the past year. I could have joined another plan which would have paid out more. I would never recommend this company to anyone!! Waste of time. They'll tell you what you what to hear then deny, deny, deny....

The most terrible dental insurance I have ever had. I also work for a company and help manage the benefits and all the other employees have complained also. Dental claims are not being processed unless you call in and sit on the phone with Aflac customer service. Then 6 month later they may get paid. I have been trying to fix the spelling on a dependents name for 5 months. The agent called customer service, 2 months later I called customers service. Customer service said only the agent can change it. So I sent in an email with the agent CC'd in it and the agent called again. Hopefully this gets fixed so claims can get paid. I also paid for my claims out of pocket 6 months ago and have still not been reimbursed. And yes, I turned in all the correct paperwork.

God forbid you have to do direct member reimbursement for any reason. They say 90 business days, I have been waiting 6 months. I filed my claim 2/22/2024. Unacceptable. They have every excuse not to pay it. "We didn't receive it, oh it's still in review." If you miss a premium payment they would be banging your door down.

In January I purchased the new Aflac Dental plan for $149 a month. I was told that cleanings and other services had zero waiting period. When I went to the dentist with my children my dentist filed a claim. One month after they filed the claim, Aflac said they did the form incorrectly. My dentist filed a claim 7 times. Numerous times I called (in excess of 20 calls) and Aflac said no claims were filed. I had itemized bills from my dentist that Aflac employees acknowledged that they had received. I was owed $1200. Aflac refused to pay the claim Claiming there was clerical errors. We did several 3 way calls. Aflac still refused.
My dentist finally called and said they were taking the money out of my account with my card on file. The service was 2/14/24 and I still have not received a direct reimbursement. I took several days off to call Aflac. I spent countless hours. The employees at the call center were not helpful. I e-mailed them and got no response 3 times in one week. I asked to escalate things to a supervisor. I begged to speak to supervisors. They were always “in a meeting.” I know for a fact that that employees at Aflac regularly hang up on customers.
Bottom line. It’s the end of July. Still no check. I filled out detailed forms in June and was told there was a 90 day turnaround. My case is not unique. I know for a fact that Aflac is employees deal with the same nonsense in claims. I spent over $900 on premiums for NOTHING! I know Aflac employees who are embarrassed by their company’s record. I am 51. This is the worst experience I have ever had. I am close to retirement and I have used sick days to deal with this. I have received no apologies, no calls. Everything was initiated by me. DO NOT BUY AFLAC DENTAL! It’s a bad joke.

I had a cleaning/exam and X-rays on 12/1/23 all of which should have been fully covered under my plan. My dental office submitted a claim. They were told it wasn't done correctly. After a few more times, they were told the same thing, I finally just paid out the entire amount and submitted a Direct reimbursement form myself in April. I have received nothing. Twice I have asked for call back from supervisor. Never happened, Many phone calls and no result whatsoever. Just lies and a runaround. Part of what I submitted was a claim for a crown which I was told would be covered. Well, that claim was denied within 2 weeks. Aflac should seriously be investigated.

I started with Aflac for my dental insurance, first of all, their cost are not cheap, there have some companies have better price than theirs. And secondly they don’t follow the regular policies as other companies do, they do insurance reverse to policy holders which means we have to pay to doctor's full price and then wait for them to give you the money back. But now issues coming!
They never received my doctor's documents as what they requested for the first month and they never to contact doctor to ask about those documents and I have to follow up with them to ask if they got it, just in this process they delayed me for 30 days and finally one of their supervisors let me to send the documents to his personal email and he helped me the summit the claims. And customer service told me it’s takes 60 business days to give me the money back. Now it’s over 80 days and I called them again and they just told me because my claim wasn’t submitted correctly so they have to redo it and ask me wait for another 90 days!!!! Can you believe what did this company doing?!!! So unprofessional and feels like they try to hold your money forever and making all kinds of excuses not give you your money!

I called Aflac to see how much their dental insurance was, and how much it would cover for me. First I use the website and they were supposed to call me back but they didn’t so I called them. Then I was speaking with a woman. She said I could get the supplemental insurance in my state only and it cost $58 a month. I asked how much it would cover and she said she can’t tell me because she doesn’t know what the materials being used are. I said why would I pay that to you every month and you can’t even give me an idea of what’s going to be covered or what percentage of regular procedures will be covered. I gave her an example that a new patient visit was going to be $250 for me, which would include an exam, x-rays, and cleaning. That was her reply when I said, I guess you’re not going to tell me how much you will pay for me for $58 per month, lol. She started arguing with me and saying I wasn’t understanding what she was saying.

They have resolved the issue of canceling the policy finally. Still, it cost me $8 to get this accomplished, many hours of work, and many emails.
Original Review: March 8, 2024
They are so far behind on paying dental claims to an in-network provider that the Dentist will no longer file claims for them and the Individual will have to pay upfront and file for reimbursement. Secondly, I could not get them to terminate the policy after I switched to another carrier which is much easier to deal with without being transferred around for an hour trying to get them to do anything only to be told they can not do that. I did this 4 times in the last month. I even sent them POA and they still could not do anything. I had to put a Stop Payment for their company with my bank to prevent them from continuing to charge for the policy. In all honesty, I would not recommend this Dental insurance to anyone as they have way too many problems.

I bought Aflac Dental in Feb 2024 through USAA, as I am a veteran. I made my first appointment for cleaning and X-rays, for which it says there is no waiting period on the USAA website. A crack in my molar was found and repaired which was not covered due to the waiting period. However, my wonderful dentists have struggle for almost 8 months for Aflac to pay for the initial cleaning and X-rays, which I now paid for out of pocket in order to keep my upcoming cleaning appointment. Both my dentist insurance dept, and myself have repeatedly contacted the company, only for them to keep kicking the can down the road and still not pay. I’ve paid 8 mo of premiums at $49.75/mo totaling $398 and zero reimbursement to date.
I Called to cancel today and supposedly they have escalated the most basic of claims, waiting time and money of my dental office and myself in an attempt to recover payment. I have zero faith in this company, and, would never recommend them to anyone. In fact, my dental office stated they are one of the WORST insurance companies to deal with for billing. If only I had known and read the reviews here before buying.

So I finally received a check with no information what they were paying for. I still have 2 claims that I resent again to my rep and a few times to different emails. I sent again 11/13/23 and I see they opened my email on 12/15/23 but still have not added to my account. Still waiting from February for my 2 payments. I have never had a more terrible customer service experience that I have had with AFLAC Dental Insurance. You have to call an 855 number to talk to anyone about your coverage or benefits or claims and I have consistently over weeks spent at least 45 minutes on hold each time I try to call in. I will eventually get in and then they will tell me that the servers are down and they cannot help me and I need to call back in about 30 minutes. I have asked if there is an email, an extension or a way to put myself on a waiting list to get a call back to discuss a claim and they say, "No. You have to go back and sit on hold until we have time to answer your phone call."
I have just been trying to reach someone because my semi annual dental preventative cleaning was not covered even though my benefits state, it should be covered for twice a year cleanings. I got through the line once. Talk to someone who said, "Yes. It should’ve been covered. We will escalate the claim and you will get a call back in the next two days," and I have not got a call back and it’s been two weeks.

Aflac dental really helps with expensive dental bills because it pays various amounts for various procedures. As with all dental plans the amount payable depends on how long you've had the plan. It does pay immediately for check ups and cleaning. It is never too late to file a claim and get paid. Even years later, if you had work done, have documentation from the dentist, you will be paid. Even if you cancel the coverage if you had coverage when the work was done, you will be must be, paid!

I have had most of my policies since 2004. I have Accident, Dental, and Cancer policies. I struggle with the majority of my claims on Dental. For instance, I had work on 10/9/2019 and put in a bridge. It took over 4 weeks for them to even acknowledge that they received my submission. Then when I was paid, they only paid me for one tooth. After noticing this I had to wait close to 2 hours to talk to a live rep to point out their oversight. Within two days they paid for an additional tooth but have now refused to pay for the final tooth since it was missing prior to work. I found this out and told them that the tooth was pulled in July of 2018 and that my policy was 14 years old at that point and I should be covered. So I submitted a services rendered sheet for all work done at my dentist for the last three years.
In this paperwork it detailed that the tooth in question was pulled last year. So just this past Monday, I'm told now that this particular submission of evidence was overlooked and that my daughter's claim is now denied. I pointed out what claim for my daughter to rep. The original claim was just in my name! I believe they deliberately delay or deny claims so the average consumer gives up. How is it that they have access to my dental provider and past paperwork showing work done, yet they quickly deny claims??? Service there has really changed over the years.

I have had Dental with Aflac for years now. I hardly ever put in a request for reimbursement, mostly because you have to wait a year before you can even use it but in the long run I was thinking it would pay off being a single mom of three. I did however turn one in on October 3rd which they said a month later that they would reimburse me 25.00 which is not correct, I had to research it myself to find out that they owe me more like 85.00. It's now December 13th and I have not been paid. I keep getting the runaround that they are re-reviewing it.
This is what the rep told me in a email "There is a document in line for review for Julie. It appears it will pay, but our dental claims and the re-look of dental claims are extremely behind. Dental is still not on SmartClaim, the 24 hour review, like our other plans. This will not be reviewed for another couple weeks. I'm sorry for the delay and troubles with the dental payout." That really doesn't help at all!! Terribly disappointed.

The dentist said #1 they lost the form. The 2nd month: they don't do AFLAC (I had advised them they had received payment from AFLAC before). They finally received payment, but it was to dentist no longer in practice. I insisted it was still sent, and their responsibility to track it. The process to start the policy was so smooth and easy and I was happy that my wife and I would finally be able to visit the dentist. Well, not everything was as perfect as I imagine it would be. I asked the representative who called me when I requested a Dental Plan through their website, that I specifically need it a Dental Insurance not a reimbursement or supplemental plan. He assure me that this was the kind of plan I needed, that everything will be fine, that I will be able to see a dentist in no time.
So, days go by, I receive my id cards in the mail and off to the dentist I go. First thing the receptionist look at the ID card and look at her coworker, with that WTF face. That worried me immediately. She couldn't find a group number, so she could verify my insurance. I called Aflac, they state I don't need a group number, because of whatever reason that didn't even made sense to myself, imagine if I explain that to the receptionist at the dental office. Back to the dentist office. The receptionist ask for the card so she can try to call Aflac directly, she calls the number on the back of the card and guess what? Yup, you guessed it right. Aflac automatic system said it will take about 2 and a half hour before a representative could be in the phone to verify.
As I write this review I am waiting for someone from the Customer Service Department answer me, because immediately after I say I want to cancel the representative told me I had reach the wrong department that he will transfer me. Another lady answer, after one hour waiting, she also said I reached the wrong department. How long had I be waiting you ask? 3 hours 10 minutes 11 seconds. I guess they want me to get tired of waiting and hang up, or for 5pm to come so the call drop and I be obligated to call tomorrow again and wait another 10 hours for someone to actually help me with the cancelation. If you want to try their services and see if I am lying, go head. But I will never recommend Aflac to anyone. At least not their Dental plan.

My wife picked up the policy quite some time ago when she received an offer in the mail for low cost dental insurance. For me getting insured was actually quite easy because I was added to my wife's policy with a quick call then about 10 days later we received the identification cards. The insurance is very easy to use and I am able to go to any doctor of my choice. Unless it's a basic service the dentist requires that all payments are paid ahead and the insurance reimburses me the difference. But the cost of procedures is quite high so unless it is just for a basic cleaning and checkup the cost out of my pocket is quite painful. The upfront payment is very low though and usually all I pay upfront or at all.

Aflac Dental Insurance is a good option that is not too pricey and is good for basic dental care. I chose my dental policy after completing the process online via the California Affordable Care website and the process was semi simple. I only have one thing that I would improve which would be having the ability to find a dentist that accepts my insurance and being able to book appointments and access my dental records online. If I wanted to switch providers or if I needed to be referred to a specialist I wish it could all be done easily online.

Also, they have great customer service and the process was simple. I got an advertisement in the mail & signed up afterward. The customer service wasn't long of a wait and the person helping me on the phone was sweet and understanding of what plan I needed to choose. I'm highly satisfied with using Aflac Dental insurance.
