Ultimate scam! They denied COVERED procedure because "according to our records, you were born without that tooth". It's a total BS - if that were the case, the adjacent teeth would've expanded, and there would be no distinctive gap. Among other reasons. I filed a dispute and included my dentist's professional opinion. They responded with their "professional's" rebuttal. To make it short, scam.

I am writing this review in a state of absolute shock, disappointment, and utter disbelief at the conduct of Delta Dental. After years of loyalty, I am left feeling betrayed and financially devastated by what can only be described as a complete failure of duty—and what appears dangerously close to outright criminal behavior. A Loyal Customer Betrayed. For years, I trusted Delta Dental to provide the coverage they promised. When my decade-old crown failed and required a complex, multi-stage procedure (tooth removal, implant, new crown), I did everything by the book: Consulted my dentist, who referred me to a specialist. Had the surgeon’s office verify my insurance and procedure codes, with their experience indicating 90% coverage. Personally called Delta Dental, and was assured—again, with codes provided—that about 90% of the surgeon’s fee would be covered.
The Shocking Reality. I paid thousands of dollars upfront, trusting the repeated assurances. After the first stage and claim submission, I was blindsided: Delta Dental covered less than 10% of the cost. Less than 10%! This is not a minor miscalculation—this is a staggering, indefensible discrepancy. Delta Dental confirmed 90% coverage before the procedure. The actual reimbursement was under 10%. I am now out thousands of dollars, with no recourse or explanation. This Feels Criminal. It is horrifying to realize that, despite clear communication and confirmation—even after sharing the exact procedure codes—Delta Dental’s claims process resulted in a payout so low it borders on fraud. How can a company promise one thing and deliver the opposite, leaving customers financially ruined and emotionally shattered?
Is this a systemic issue? How many others have been misled and left in the lurch? How can such practices be considered anything but deceptive and potentially criminal? Demanding Accountability. I demand to know what Delta Dental will do to address this egregious situation. What steps will be taken to: Rectify the financial harm caused by these false assurances? Restore any semblance of trust or confidence in your company? Prevent this from happening to others in the future? Final Words. As a deeply disheartened, angry, and shocked customer, I urge anyone considering Delta Dental to think twice. My experience has left me questioning not just their competence, but the very legitimacy of their claims process. Delta Dental, you owe your customers answers—and justice.

This company is by far the worst dental insurance company. They support dentists who ripoff Delta customers by insisting you need totally unnecessary dental services. And, of course, they are the services that Delta does not support at all, leaving the customer to fight off scamming dentists. Delta ignores complaints and supports scam dentists. Never accept Delta as your dental insurance company. They apparently do not have to answer to anyone.

If I can give Delta Dental insurance a zero, I would. I broke a molar which my dentist was able to rebuild as I had good bone structure to support the work she completed. They denied the claim the first time. My dental office redid scans to show proof of good prognosis and still, Delta Dental denied the claim. In addition, they also hadn't updated our information in their system (as explained by one of their representatives who was very rude on the phone), resulting in denials of routine check-ups. It is EXTREMELY frustrating to pay for insurance each month, just for them to deny claims that they advertise to cover. The denials of their team of dentists are getting out of hand. I wouldn't be surprised if denials made by them are incentivized.

If I could leave a 0-star rating, I would! I have never had such horrible customer service other than retail/restaurant experiences. Their communications with their customers SUCKS! I had an email telling me that I needed to pay for two months and that my account would be suspended. I called the customer service number and was told that my payment went through and that I did not need to pay anything. The next week I get a letter in the mail stating that my account had been suspended> called their customer service number and inquired about this and was transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor told me that if I had the money in my account, they could reinstate it. I affirmed with them that the money was there, and they told me that someone would get back with me by the end of the day to confirm that my account was back in good standing.
3 days later I had not received a call and went to the website to see if I was still suspended and was unable to see anything as the message I received on the website was that there was no record of my account. I called their office and was told that there were people working on getting my account back in good standing. When I asked why no one had called me, I was told that it would take up to 2 weeks before my account was back in good standing. Today I called them and was told that they mailed me a letter two days ago telling me that they could not process my payments and that I was now locked out for a year for coverage with them.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me that they had "left me a voicemail telling me that they needed to talk with me". When I told them that I had never received any voicemails from them, and questioned when they made these calls, they were unable to tell me, just that there were multiple calls left on my voicemail. When I questioned them and pushed them further, asking for clarification and a record of when they called, they hung up on me! This is very poor customer service!!! Their lack of communication and horrible customer service, lying about contacting me in any way to let me know what the status was or to let me know that they were having any kind of trouble processing the payment tells me that there is no communication and apparently their staff lie to cover their asses!

I had a tooth extracted in May of 2025, the tooth was infected and had 2 previous root canals. I used an out of network provider that specializing in extractions and implants, as my dentist would have referred me to other specialists who were booked for months. I paid the out of network provider and filed a claim. Delta reimbursed me $32. When I called they told me they only pay $65 for an extraction and they did not reimburse for anesthesia. I do not believe that. They cannot expect people to get teeth pulled without any anesthesia. I asked to see their fee schedule, it is unrealistic that they are only paying in network providers $65 and nothing for anesthesia for extractions. I was told that the fee schedule is an agreement between Delta and their in network providers. They do not allow members to see it.

Delta Dental used to be a premier provider for Delta Dental, but as of 3 years ago, I went out and got a private plan because my work coverage was awful. Unfortunately, I have paid 40 dollars a month for the past 3 years to have my claims constantly rejected, including an erupted tooth extraction that should have been covered. I have a better chance paying less without the dental at most dentist offices. If nothing else, I save 40 dollars a month by canceling. In the future, I hope that prospective buyers of Delta Dental plans read the fine print and all pertinent reviews before wasting their money. Hopefully, a call to the attorney general's office to have an investigation on faulty practices can fix these issues.

They claim to cover 80% of "preventative care" services for out-of-network dentists. This appears on term sheets they advertise to the public, on their "member benefits document" available in their member portal, on the main page of their member portal, etc. Those documents do not contain any asterisk or imply that they will pay less than 80%. In fact, I have calculated that they have paid only 46% of my family's preventative services this year. This is because, according to them, they only pay 80% of an "allowed amount." This is utterly misleading, a scam, and unprofessional. I relied on the 80% figure, which appears everywhere, as the amount they would pay. This figure is a lie, and they are lying to the public about their coverage. I have made a complaint to my state department of insurance.

Delta Dental made my insurance company resubmit evidence for my pre-treatment estimate 3 to 4 times. In March, they said they would cover the procedure. In May, they sent the claim back saying they would not cover it. The bureaucracy and red tape is purposefully designed to prevent patients from receiving services.

My spouse and I, through different employers, have had Delta Dental top of the line "insurances" covering ourselves and each other for over 18 years. The limitations and exclusions are extensive. Even with two plans, Delta Dental has excluded so many routine claims for various reasons. It is frustrating and costly. Three examples: Two plans covering two cleanings a year but you can only get two cleaning a year regardless of paying for both plans. A tooth that had a cavity and needed a root canal was covered but 23 months later the filling cracked. The dentist needed to redo the filling due to pain and it was swollen, etc. This was also not covered and I have to pay as you can only get a filling redone after two years.
Lastly, a crown was placed on a tooth. Something shifted in my mouth and food was getting stuck between this crown and another crown and a pocket was inflamed. I paid the full crown redo amount as I did not wait 7 years (might have been 8 years or 6 years) to get the crown redone. So, after paying about $2600/year for two plans, I probably paid more out of my pocket than the plans cost.

Website says they cover 100% of a procedure in network. I click the tab to see what they cover for out-of-network. It still says 100%. I get the procedure. Delta Dental covers 30% and I have a bill of about $1000. Turns out they cover 100% of an agreed-upon value that is incredibly low. Their own website never mentions this on the page showing my coverage, not even as much as an asterisk next to the coverage percent. Just a big green 100% under the coverage column for out-of-network dentists. This is fraud. You should be able to take someone to court for something like this. Their website lied to my face and tricked me into spending $1000. I wish nothing but destruction upon this company.

Delta Dental is a total complicated scam. The dentist that take their plan will NEVER do a routine cleaning and refuse services if that is all you want. They will make claims that they are not allowed to and will only do a $600 cleaning. And Delta could not even find a single Dentist that would do a regular cleaning. I drive 20 miles south to get an honest dentist and pay cash and it is a lot cheaper than having Delta Dental. For 2 clearings per year with Delta Dental it is $1307.00 with no insurance and an honest dentist it's about $170.00 per year.

I'm infuriated by this insurer. I signed up for a plan which was meant to pay 50% towards restorative procedures after a 6 month waiting period. After 18 months I had to get a root canal and basic composite crown. First they refused the claim and forced the dentist to appeal based on wanting more radiology. Then they rejected it a second time and simply said it's not a covered procedure. Why make the dentist do the extra work only to come back and say root canals aren't covered, and why wasn't it covered? I attempted to contact the company get an explanation and found that they have no actual people to call. There isn't even a phone number listed on the website. You have to use a contact form that claims it will be answered in 3-5 business days. It's been 8 business days, no response. This insurance is a fraud. Stay away.

They said that cleanings and xrays were covered. They asked when I saw a dentist last and I let them know it had been just over 2 years. So they did the cleaning and xrays. Then 3 weeks later I get a bill for $241 because Delta Dental denied the Xray coverage saying they only pay for them every 3 years. I contacted the dentist and they said they can't help because they can only verify there is coverage but aren't informed of the details about the 3 year thing. What's really stupid is that if I went in with NO INSURANCE the dentist would charge $150 for a new patient. Now I have a bill of $241 that I feel is not owed to them.

Stay away. This dental insurance provider is a scam. The orthodontal claims are partitioned and honored in only once a year (*), so if one is engaged in, say, braces work - you're pretty much locked in with Delta until your treatment is done, which may take years. If you happen to discontinue the contract with them, then you're likely to pick up the remainder of the balance since Delta won't pay their share to the provider right away (see *). In such case, patient's part of the payment may go up 2x-3x. Moreover, the general trend among local dental work providers is to discontinue their contracts with Delta. Scheming dirty rotten no-goods!!!! Stay away!

I’m currently a subscriber to Delta Dental (Family Plan). I was diagnosed 5/3/2024 with Stage II breast cancer and and as of 4/2025 I have been able to finally use my dental benefits. I needed to get an exam and x-rays before I can start my IV infusion for cancer medication. I paid for the services up front and was told that I would be reimbursed. The reimbursement check came about a week later. I went to the bank that the check was written on and was told that I needed to contact the person that sent me the check because it’s not good. I was embarrassed because it made me look like I was presenting a bad check. I called Delta to inquire about the check and I was told that it didn’t make sense then I was put on hold for about 10 minutes and was also hung up on.
I called back and after going through all the prompts I finally got ahold of another customer service rep and she told me that I needed to get documentation from the bank stating why the check couldn’t be cashed and mail that with the check back to them before they can issue me another one. Not sure why I needed to do that since the check you sent me was written from an account that has no money in it. SMH… How can this happen…. I’m recovering from breast cancer surgery and they want me to do all of this running around to get something that is owed to me. Never again…. I will be dropping Delta Dental.

I had both minor restoration (2 fillings) and a crown, and when I received the reimbursement I was shocked to see how little they pay out. I had chosen their “Select” plan, which, for Out Of Network, is supposed to cover 90% of preventative, 70% of Basic, and 50% of Major work (like crowns).
Their rate was only $783 for a crown, so they would only pay $391.50 as the 50% reimbursement. This is outrageous! The Delta Dental website even has $1,611 - $1,849 noted as the typical Out Of Network charges for a crown (for my zip code), so my dentist’s fee is even lower than those “expected” charges. Why they would not cover the 50% of the $1,533 is simply terrible. Like one of the other reviewers said, if you can “pick anyone else”.

I am greatly troubled in that they do NOT cover what they say they are going to cover, such as 100% of preventative and diagnostic services. Actually I think these dental and vision insurances are just rip the people off if you talk directly to your doctor and pay him cash he gives you did count much more than these dental or vision insurance claim that they cover!
For years I spent my money and bought vision insurance but last year I didn't gave my insurance so my doctor gave me 30% discount more than 28% discount that usually ppo vision insurance give to their customers. Diane in Finance, obviously who does not care to help out us customers. Anyway, people like Diane is why us customers just go elsewhere and lose all respect for a company like this. I would never treat customers so horribly like she did and if anyone heard her over the phone suggesting to a customer that they might have committed fraud over one wrong digit on their social security #... They would be fired. Sad world, when no one cares about us customers and we spend more time on the phone when they always say their systems made a mistake... or they will look into it and no one even calls us back. So I disputed it, explaining I had pain, etc. They still denied it saying the dentist didn’t give enough evidence, so I’m not sure why they say you can dispute it and explain anything, if they only revert back to saying the same thing. Just a waste of a lot of time for me. They didn’t consider what I wrote because they said they xray wasn’t enough evidence. So pain or no pain, they found a way not to pay. What makes it even better is that the representatives are based in the USA, fluent in English, and incredibly knowledgeable. They’ve consistently been able to answer all my questions with clarity and patience.
Due to an issue with my endodontist, I’ve had to call multiple times, and every interaction has been fantastic. Special shoutout to Maddie, Paige, Tequilla, and the other amazing team members at Delta Dental’s call center—you’re the gold standard of customer service! If I could find just one dentist who had a clean facility, with staff that answered the phone, or one who didn't consistently cancel appointments, I'd be a happy camper. Don't even get me going about my experiences in the chair.
The dentist did the cleaning. Rather than scaling, he used an ultrasonic water device, which sprayed water everywhere - on my face and clothing. His assistant spoke minimal English. That wouldn't have been a problem for me, but when she left me sitting in the chair with a mouthful of polish while she left the room with no explanation, I had no clue if she was ever coming back...And no sink to spit in. I paid my deductible of 40 percent, after the non contracting dentist contacted Delta Dental for coverage informatoin. When you go to a non contracted dentist you are sent a check to give the dentist for payment of services. I never received the check from Delta Dental to pay the dentist and ended up paying a significant amount out of pocket for both visits all the while Delta Dental stated they had sent the checks in the mail confirming my address several times, also noting the checks were never cashed. On 8/13 I had 4 crowns and a deep cleaning for $920. I contacted DD and learned that my July claim had been denied for lack of proof of payment, and that I needed to resubmit it. I never received any notice of the denial or reason therefore. So on 8/20, I submitted the first claim with all forms and the second claim for $920 with all required forms, and a receipt for payment from Dental Solutions signed by their lead dentist showing I paid a total of $2250. DD sent a check for $975 with no explanation.
Upon contacting them on 10/7, I was informed that the $920 claim was denied for lack of proof of payment, and must be resubmitted. I did not receive any notice that this claim was denied. DD denies claims but does not give you notice of the denial. All DD has to do if they need proof of payment is contact the provider, but they don't. They are obviously banking on their insured's forgetting to follow up. In my case, they obviously are hoping that I will think the $975 is the total reimbursement for all services. I doubt that my experience is unusual. DD is engaging in unfair business practices and is not handling claims in good faith. The California Department of Insurance should investigate them.

Tried going on the Delta website but it stated that I had to call to find out my benefits. Since it was a front tooth I didn't want to go without a crown so I paid $1,630 out of pocket. This cost was for the crown only, no build up as there had been a crown there previously. When I got home I looked on my employer's benefit website and it clearly stated that I do have coverage for crowns.
I called Delta again and they discovered that I do have coverage for crowns and the dentist should bill them. Even got a message from Delta that they had spoken to the dentist who was going to submit a claim. Delta Dental PPO Plan (https://www1.deltadentalins.com/content/dam/ddins/en/pdf/brokers/resources/broker-booklet-ca.pdf) states “Plans purchased on or after the 15th of the month have effective date options of: the first of the next month, the 15th of the next month, the first of the month after next or the 15th of the month after next. • For example, a plan purchased on July 15 can be effective August 1, August 15, September 1 or September 15.” So, my coverage should have been effective in November or October 2023 after my purchase on September 26, 2023. In the same online booklet, “Limitations & exclusions” there is no mention of the 6-month period requirement.
Furthermore, Delta Dental never sent any brochure of any kind whatsoever to me explaining this “effective” date and the “6-month waiting period”. The Delta Dental sale representative also never brought up and/or explained any of these requirements. She was only interested in my credit card number and the charges! In Delta Dental denial letter dated March 28, 2024, Ms. Kim ** of Delta Dental refers to “Combined Policy and Disclosure From” and its Attachment A and other references to its pages explaining my dental insurance coverage. Delta Dental must honor its obligation to fully inform its customers of their coverage requirements not only through their sales representatives but also via mailing their contract requirements, giving reviewing time and enabling customers to agree/disagree with its terms. We tried for over a year to get reimbursed for my wife's dentures. There was always a reason why Delta Dental refused to pay. Per the instructions from the insurance company, we are supposed to pay the entire bill and then get our "insurance money" from them as a reimbursement. Of course, the dentures cost more than we'd get back, but her plan pays 80% up to $1,500. So, we sent the forms to DELTA DENTAL and they sent us a letter back stating that we didn't include the right forms. Then, there was always another reason why they refused to pay. Finally, after many mailings of the required forms, they sent a check, a whole $36 check. To the dentist's office! We couldn't even cash it.
The paperwork says they will only pay within a year of the work being completed. They strung it out until it timed out. My wife and I terminated coverage with Delta Dental Insurance since it was cheaper to not have it in our case. Then, we received a bill from a visit she had in June of 2022. Seems Delta Dental Insurance didn't pay that one either. If you want to see all the gory details, I've documented the entire fiasco on the HDForums. **. I purchased the Delta PPO plan - because it said that it would cover restorative services. I have a few broken teeth. They refused to cover crowns because there was no cavity that caused it. I repeatedly for over a year tried to access my thorough benefits details. Every time, the message on my portal said "Unable to Retrieve Data" or it was unable at this time. It was never available. The benefits clearly stated in my PPO plan that they would cover crowns, among other things. I spoke with the claims department and they were useless. All they did was read the claim denial message. I asked to have a copy of the thorough benefits paperwork emailed to me. I am very doubtful that I will receive it. I asked them to cancel my plan and it is still active. They are still saying that they will take my automatic payment on my account.
I truly wished I had check the reviews here before buying this policy. It is pretty much an unethical provider. I am really shocked that such a large entity could be this awful. l Their team was clearly uneducated "call takers". When I set up my auto payments, twice they screwed it up and I had to call after receiving a non-payment notification - they tried to say the credit card was denied. I gave them the same card info and it went right through. There has always been plenty of room on the card as I pay it off every month and never use the full line of credit. They are inept. I hope that people read this. I will write other reviews wherever I can so others don't get taken for a ride. Thanks, David

Had Delta Dental/AARP insurance for 3 years. Always had to pay up front and wait months and make several phone calls and then they would decide how much to reimburse me. Recently I got into a financial situation where I needed to cancel my insurance. Unknown to me, there was a 12 month contract that won't allow you to cancel! I sent numerous emails explaining my situation which were ignored and telephoned different reps. One rep insisted she would cancel my plan but did not after I had already put a stop payment on my direct withdrawals. The next two reps said no it was not cancelled and could not be cancelled!
Waiting days for a supervisor to call me back and tell me that they will not let me cancel the 10 months I have left on my contract! No followup emails after phone calls with the reps. Very unprofessional. I couldn't even find the contract without help from one of the reps. Website was very unclear and difficult to use. My dentist went out of network with Delta Dental because he was having so many problems with them. When I had my oral surgery they wouldn't cover my anesthesiologist or anesthesia because I had the surgery at the endodontist office not the hospital. Well the hospital does not do oral surgery. At the end of my "contract" I will not be doing business with them.

I've had Dental Dental though PERS for many years. More than 6 years ago one dentist completely botched replacing a lower jaw bridge. It was multiply defective from the beginning. Last September my dentist said it requires prompt replacement, otherwise decay could develop under one portion of the bridge and subsequently make it impossible to put it a new bridge and then multiple tooth implants would be required. And a second dentist consulted concurred. However, Delta Dental claims first that 7 years must have passed before they would cover its obligated 50% of the cost. Two, Delta Dental, in its notification of refusal to cover the cost of an otherwise requisite bridge replacement procedure, also claimed that even if coverage were allowed, another porcelain appliance is not acceptable, rather only gold, even though dentist's office states that there would be no difference in cost between the use of porcelain and gold.
Last, also in its notification of refusal to cover the what incontestably should be its 50% of the costs, the writer referred to crown work that would apply only to the molar part of the bridge, even though such a crown could never be put on since the middle part of the sextant bridge covers an empty area where the second bicuspid has been absent since 1973! This absurd situation because Delta Dental doubtless wants to save having to spend money!

I don't even know where to start. I've had this plan for 7 years and it is less than useless, if that's possible. Their list of providers is non existent and when I asked for a periodontal referral within network, they gave me 4 general dentists (one over 50 miles from home), an MD and a Vet (no, this is not a typo, they gave me a veterinarian as a periodontal referral!)
The plan states it covers "50%" of most services and procedures which, is a lie, plain and simple, it's a lie. I just submitted a bill for $1600 for extractions and they paid me $258 (about 6%) and that's just one claim in what's going to be some more ongoing necessary work. They pay less than half for routine cleanings and most minor dental procedures and if you need major work, as I did, you're lucky if you get enough for gas to get you to and from the dentist office! You will ALWAYS walk out of your provider's office owing money. When this is all over, I'll be looking at other plans, nothing can be worst than Delta Dental Medicare coverage.

I do not consider an insurance policy that only offers few dentists serving an almost 400 square mile region (Dallas) to be much of a policy. At the beginning of the year there were many more dentists available.
However, I started my dentist search in early November and never imagined there would be so few dentists serving all of the Dallas area. Considering one of the dentists has been punished by the state dental board makes their choice of available dentists even more absurd. After one week, they replied someone will contact me shortly. After another week, they say shortly means one month. After two months, still no one shows up. I tried to contact with them multiple times and no one ever talk with me anymore. Most ridiculous customer service I have ever seen. Will never recommend to anyone I know.

I have wasted dozens of hours of my life trying to get very simple bills paid through Delta Dental. My dental office has also reported, in their words, a "nightmare" trying to work with the company. It's hard to tell whether their agents are inept or the company is just unable to function due to poor management. My dentist is in-network, but Delta continues to treat them as out-of-network. During the pandemic, I received checks--without Delta ever explaining what they were for or as a baseline, including a note stating what they were for--for these supposed "out-of-network" services. I thought these were refunds, because a few companies, including my university and BCBS, gave refunds during the pandemic because people couldn't visit the doctor.
Turns out that Delta was not paying my dentist, and suddenly, I was faced with thousands of dollars of back bills from my dentist. My dentist said that they had mind-numbing conversations with Delta trying to get them to get all of their dentists in the office listed as "in-network." They were totally sick of talking with them! It literally took about 12 phone calls made by me and my husband trying to straighten this out. They told me, today even, that they have no way of viewing in their system which bills are outstanding. WHAT? And their customer service agents have ranged from being ineffective to outright rude.
Today, an agent got testy with me when I tried to explain that I was calling to pay my bill, and she said that they do not take payments at all. I stand in my kitchen now, staring at a bill that has to be paid. If you have any ability at all to NOT choose Delta, I recommend that. If you're stuck with them, as I am, just try to avoid having to deal with them whatsoever.

I have used Delta Dental in the past and have been happy about the coverages. After renewing my policy and not looking at the coverages, which have changed, I realized it is no longer worth the money. I pay a total of $148 a year which is good. However, it literally covers nothing. I got my teeth cleaned and had to pay a $65 deductible. The cleaning without insurance would have been $95 so I've already overpaid by $118. I also had a crown replaced. They covered zero. So I will be cancelling this for not only myself, but for my family members.

They have made it much more difficult to reach a representative to talk to. I had to call them multiple times in-order to process a claim. Claim rejected with no reasons and they have tried in every possible way to make it more difficult to receive payment for a valid claim. I believe something has changed and there may be bases for legal actions about this company. Delta used to a good insurance company but I don't recommend them anymore.

I have Delta Dental through my employer and also as an individual policy. I thought this would be advantageous due to needing a lot of dental work. All they do is deny my estimates, even on appeal, I am denied. They state that they do not cover "erosion". But when the enamel on your teeth is "eroded" to the point of being unable to tolerate hot or cold or air you can't say you have good dental health. My dentist staff has diligently applied, appealed, resent information over and over and each time the work is denied by Delta. What is the point? For 20$ a month my dentist will do cleanings and X Rays and take 20% off fillings or any other work that is needed. That is better and much less headache than Delta. Insurance companies have ruined healthcare in this country. I'm cancelling Delta tonight and am glad to be rid of them.

I've had many providers over the years (like Metlife/BCBS) and Delta Dental has the worst customer service that I've ever gone through. I signed up for their DMO plan under my employer and in no circumstances did they provide which specific dental facility that I was going to be assigned to. So upon visiting my regular dentist for an annual cleaning, the coverage was not accepted. Multiple attempts were made by me and associates from my dentist's office to their customer service. All of our calls were hanged up. I waited an hour to get to a representative (Yvette) and once I mentioned my problem, she hanged up the call.
Upon further investigation, I discovered that the "facility" that I was assigned to had poor reviews/service. I'm very disappointed with this company and I'm actively looking to purchase my own dental plan instead. I'm glad that I take good care of my teeth because if I have to use Delta for any extensive procedures then I don't think I will get the proper coverage for it.

So I have had Delta Dental thru market place since 2018. In April of 2021 there was some confusion from market place to Delta Dental. My coverage fell apart. I called Delta Dental. Reinstated me. Convinced me that I should switch directly and they would consider the two years as part of the switch, I started going for my bad tooth that broke to two pieces and I was in severe pain. Now I have paid 2500 dollars out of pocket so far because I am told this is new coverage. The previous 2 years don't mean anything. It was paid under the same SSN number. Plan was 50 dollars cheaper thru market place. They first told me it will be the same but have been taking out more. I did not complain. I figured they are giving me full coverage. I've noticed that there are some glowing reviews of Delta, and many more negative reviews. Why? I think part of the discrepancy may be due to the 2 forms of ins. they offer, one is thru employer, the other for individual. So, since I've never had it thru my employer, I can only speak to my experience procuring individual "insurance". As such, I'd recommend stay away from them. One thing that should alert your ** detector right off the bat is that they do not allow you to dis-enroll for one year, in other words you must pay them premiums for a full year. That is nonsense, I've never heard of any ins. that does not allow you to "cancel at any time". Only Delta. So after I subscribed for a year (while wondering why they didn't really pay much even for cleanings), I started year two.
I had one cleaning at an orthodontist and then found out (about a month later after their leisurely decision making process) that they would not pay because the ortho was "too good" or too professional. What? Too good? So anyway, finally I was fed up with them and called to cancel. Can't do! Not allowed! Delta was pulling monthly premiums from my credit card, an 'automated' pull. So I finally realized hey I can just change my card numbers, ask the card company to issue me a new card, and they did, end of a very unpleasant experience. In the end, why pay for this bogus "insurance", just pay your dentist if you trust that your dentist is charging you a reasonable rate (true, in this time many charges seem arbitrary and overinflated). Dental ins. unless it's through an employer is something of a rip-off in our country. Wait and hope that Biden can push through legislation to have it covered under Medicare, it's our only chance.

Another: full set of x-rays yet “don’t know” was the angered answer to my asking if there were cavities - after I told him I wanted no cosmetic work done at the time. In March of 2020 I needed a tooth crowned. Following the rules of Delta Dental of Massachusetts, my dentist submitted a pre-approval request for the crown. It was approved by Delta Dental. Shortly after receiving the pre-approval, my dentist closed his practice because of Covid-19 restrictions imposed by Massachusetts. When the practice was re-opened later that year I made an appointment to have the crown put in. The dentist’s office explained that the crown would not be seated before July 1, and according to Delta Dental rules, the claim could not be submitted before the work was fully completed. This mattered because my husband was retiring and would no longer have Delta Dental coverage.
I called Delta Dental in June. The representative said she would look into this and get back to me. She returned my call that day explaining the crown would be covered and that my dentist, at the time of claim submission, should note in the comment box “postponed due to Coronavirus shutdown.” (My mistake was trusting the conversation and not getting something in writing then and there.)
The dental work was completed in early August and the dentist submitted the claim with the Covid comment. Delta Dental denied the claim. I called Delta Dental and explained all of the above to the representative. She said the claim would be resubmitted. Having received no word from Delta Dental, I called in late November and spoke to another representative who advised me to put the entire chronology together in writing and appeal Delta Dental’s decision to deny the claim. I did. Months went by and it took another reach-out before I heard from Delta Dental. They said they would reconsider (again?) after receiving an explanation from the dentist; an explanation he immediately provided.
Some time later, nearly a year from the beginning of this tale, I received a letter from Delta Dental denying the claim. Our plan covers 80% on a lot of treatments and two cleanings per calendar year. There is a monthly copay and an annual deductible. The two cleanings are covered up to a cap amount, any cost over that is out of my pocket. So read the fine print as with all insurances. This year Delta Dental is covering the extra cost of PPE. However we missed out on a cleaning in 2020 due to covid closures. So I wonder how much money Delta Dental didn't have to pay for on missed cleanings. And I still had to pay full price for all of our insurance deductibles, copays, and the remaining 20%. I don't have much experience with other dental insurance. Without insurance through my employer we probably would not get dental care because we could not afford it.
