While visiting Tucson from out-of-state, I wandered into Ethan Allen, thinking I was just looking. With their designer, Frank's, expert help, I found exactly what I had in mind: an aniline dyed tobacco-colored leather couch, twin swivel occasional chairs, and a coordinating traditional wool area rug to tie it all together. And it was all on SALE! Frank was able to arrange to have those items shipped to a store that would make remote deliveries to my home. Like most custom orders, getting these items took time, but Frank emailed me every few weeks with updates. The delivery scheduler and delivery drivers knew exactly what they were doing and everything worked out beautifully. I couldn't be happier with the quality of all the items and the service I received at Ethan Allen.

This was our first purchase from Ethan Allen, and we are extremely disappointed with its customer service and our overall experience with the company. We purchased a custom-made bed frame and a foundation on May 4, 2026, at the Mission Valley store. For context, we're also expecting our new baby. The interior designer informed us that the bed should be ready for delivery within six to eight weeks. I figured that would give us plenty of time to prepare before the birth. Our original estimated delivery date was July 6, 2026—10 weeks after our purchase date.

On July 10, we still had not heard from Ethan Allen, so I called and was told that the bed had been delayed because of the “Fourth of July holiday rush”—whatever that means. Then, on July 16, we were told that the bed had been shipped from the manufacturing facility and was on its way to the distribution center. However, on July 23, I was notified that the estimated delivery date had been moved to August 10. I later found out that our bed had not been shipped on July 16; it was not shipped until July 26. On July 29, the estimated delivery date was changed again, this time to August 17. This was the third time the delivery date had been changed, which was extremely disappointing and frustrating.

On August 5, after repeatedly calling Ethan Allen, we were offered a loaner bed while we waited for ours to be delivered. I then had the most unpleasant exchange with the company’s delivery and scheduling team while arranging the loaner bed. They wanted us to pay even more money just to have the loaner bed and our foundation delivered. Since we had already paid 30% of the total amount, I did not feel comfortable making another payment of approximately $400 as we still did not know where our bed frame was, as no one seemed to have any tracking information for the furniture.

The lady on the phone couldn't care less about my situation, and showed no effort at all to try to resolve the situation. When I called her back the second time, she even hung up on me immediately after I told her my name. Later, the interior designer from the store called me and told me that they'll waive the delivery fee for me and that I'll just have to pay off the remaining balance on the foundation, which I accepted.

Finally, on August 20, Ethan Allen contacted us to say that the bed had been delivered to the distribution center. By this point, we were completely disappointed with the company and filed a complaint with corporate. They offered to waive the delivery fee and provide an additional $200 discount on the order. Alternatively, we could cancel the order, but they would keep our 30% deposit as a “restocking fee.” At that point, we felt that we had no choice but to accept the offer so that we could finally receive the bed. It then took them two days to send me a revised invoice reflecting the updated amount due.

Our delivery is now scheduled for September 10. They said they'll call us two days in advance to give us a three-hour delivery window. We were also told that there would be a $100 rescheduling fee if we canceled within two days of the delivery date. Fortunately, they had the sense to let us know that we would not be charged the rescheduling fee.

This has been the most ridiculous and unfortunate experience I have ever had with any company. Not only is Ethan Allen’s customer service horrible, but its internal communication is also extremely poor. If you are reading this and trying to decide between Ethan Allen and Bassett, go with Bassett. We purchased a non-custom couch from Bassett in July and received it within a week. They even sent us a very nice thank-you card with cleaning instructions for the couch.

Ethan Allen employs "design consultants" to work with customers. I needed someone to help me because, I'm not good at that type of thing. I wanted to have a professional help me choose something appropriate. I needed a reclining sofa replaced in my existing living room. I brought many pictures of my living room and home to show the designer. The designer suggested a green couch. I never considered green in my earth tone living room. She said it would look good and showed me the fabric, insisting it would go with the existing decor. She went off the pictures I had presented and never suggested she come to the home. I signed the paperwork. I paid in full and awaited my sofa to be made and delivered.

They delivered the sofa and revealed the color. I told the drivers immediately that it was not correct for the room. It was a blue green. There is nothing close to blue in my living room or home. It did not go with earth tones. I called the design consultant who was at my home very quickly. She looked at it and looked at it and looked at it. Not a happy moment. I requested a different color sofa and here's where the problems began. At first, they told me that I signed the documents which indicate that there were no refunds on custom goods and that I was responsible for the purchase. When I got to a manager, Ms. Jei **, she told me that the responsibility for the selection mine. I had approved it and the design consultant's involvement was not relevant.

When pressed she agreed to take back the sofa but, with a very large cash penalty. Never once did anyone say that I was wrong and that the sofa went well in the room. I eventually received a credit to my charge card for less than what Ms. ** had agreed to in writing. It took months to get the balance of what was owed to me. Here are my suggestions if you choose to deal with this company:

      1. Once you sign for a custom order goods, you are the party responsible. Not the "design consultant."
      2. At the very least you should insist the "design consultant" comes to your home.
      3. Take anything the "design consultant" says with a grain of salt due to their lack of culpability.

      4. Think about it before you sign. Take their proposal home and speak to you friends and family before signing their contract.

In the end result, I lost a lot of money with nothing to show for it but, a lot of aggravation.

Having purchased Ethan Allen (EA) furniture previously, we decided to buy a media center. Our design/sales associate located a stain color sample that matched our current pieces. By phone we ordered and provided our credit card number. In a few months we received it and immediately saw the stain color was not the stain we chose. Vicki, the store manager, dismissed our concern and said that it “BLENDED” with our other furniture.

On the fourth call it was stated that EA does not match finishes. I agreed - it doesn’t match the stain color sample they provided and we selected. This was after we emailed pictures of our chosen stain color sample on top of an existing piece and the existing piece next to the new darkly stained piece. She then stated it was a custom order and EA does not accept returns on custom orders. They hide behind the custom order policy and the customer has to pay for their mistake. Once they have your credit card info, if the finished product is not right, you are on your own. EA apparently TODAY does not understand nor provide customer service.

I recently ordered a wool rug from Ethan Allen. The rug took 5 months to get and cost thousands. I am very disappointed in the quality of this rug as it’s much thinner than the wool rugs I have bought in the past! Also, another area of big disappointment is the overall colors in this rug. The rug sample from the showroom had a lot of green colors which is what I wanted, but the rug I received looks predominantly blue. Overall just very disappointed!

I purchased a stone topped coffee table (Valeria), which pitted and cracked within three and a half months. It took another three months to have Ethan Allen's Customer Service department send a "technician" to assess the piece. I was informed by the technician that this was a common problem with the table top I had purchased. After I called Customer Service for follow up I was advised I would receive a new table top in July. I was not contacted for delivery in July so I began to make multiple call to learn the status of the replacement piece. I finally spoke to a representative who advised the piece was now expected to arrive in September.

The loops on one of the two rugs I purchased separated from the base within four months and were sticking out of the rug in tufts. I contacted the in store designer to inquire about repair. She stated I should cut the tufts indicating this is "normal" to occur on a rug. Note cutting the loops would leave a gap in the rug and I have never had this happen to any other rug I owned. The resolution is that I will have to have it rewoven at my expense. Ethan Allen's customer service is unprofessional, unreliable, totally disappointing. I will not do business with Ethan Allen again and suggest buyers beware.

In January of 2025 I purchased two custom club chairs and ottoman. My order was to be delivered in March, 2025. I did not receive my items until June of 2025 due to a fabric shortage issue. In November of 2025 I noticed some sport on the nubuck leather and on closer inspection I realized the leather was pitting. It was if there were spots where the leather "finish" was rubbing off. I was on both chairs and the ottoman. I contacted my local store and they asked me to take pictures which I did. They agreed it was not normal for the leather to do this so they sent it to "corporate" Corp immediately said it was normal wear and tear and they would do nothing. The store said they were appealing the decision given this did not look normal and certainly not for something I had only had for 5 months. They then told me there had been many complaints about this nubuck and they were going back to the vendor because it appeared to be defective.

This was in January I was told this and after following up for 3 months I was finally told today that it was determined to be normal wear and they would do anything. My store told me my options were a $1200 rebate on the furniture and keep it or I could have new chairs made for 45% of cost. I originally paid over $8000 for these chairs so it doesn't make sense to pay another $4500 to have new chairs made. I would have over $12,500 invested in these chairs! I bought from Ethan Allen because they are to be good quality and last a long time. I don't know how long this leather will last and it doesn't look good now so I am guessing it will only get worse. I will never buy anything from Ethan Allen again. I recommend if you buy from them - beware of what you are buying and whether you can bear the loss if something goes wrong because they do not stand behind their product!

I was locked into an amount to pay this off in four years which was not in my budget at this time. I have never had an interest free loan with their minimum payment. Does not an interest free loan mean you pay it off before the loan comes due without interest? With that being said I will be turning this over to the Attorney General's Office as I am a senior citizen on a fixed income and should not have to meet their demands as the loan will be paid before due. By the way, we all know how impossible it is to take this company to bat. However my hope is that if you have been a victim of their set minimum on an interest free loan you will join me. I am sure I am not the only person who has been caught in their scam!

I purchased a dining table w/ chairs, two end tables, a custom ordered sofa, and a love seat sized sleeper. They are now approx. 6-years old. The tables and chairs are advertised as being Cherry, which though not cared for like gold -- should not be losing the laminate -- exposing bare wood. The sofa is fine, but the sleeper was delivered missing parts -- which was denied time again -- until the third visit to my home whereby the technician realized it was missing two pieces required to avoid gaps between the seat and back cushion. I highly recommend reading other reviews – a step I sorely wish I'd taken before visiting the store. I was moved by my parents' positive experiences; they'd purchased furniture from Ethan Allen for years, with their last purchase in 2015. However, this isn't the same Ethan Allen, as many other reviewers have noted.

We ordered a buffet in June 2025. It arrived with scratches and uneven coloring. A repair technician (who was excellent, and this review isn't a reflection of his work) was sent out but couldn't fix it, so new doors were ordered. Several months and two subsequent door sets later, we have had issue after issue with quality control. One set the factory sent was entirely the wrong style. Did they even look at our initial order?

The latest set arrived with the holes drilled in the wrong places, which meant the technician had to make new ones and fill the old ones with putty. So, this expensive buffet now has puttied-over holes because the factory couldn't get the measurements right. I've bought furniture from Macy's and La-Z-Boy without problems, and they cost less than Ethan Allen. We have asked for some money back and Ethan Allen has honored our request. As much is that is appreciated, we will not be making future Ethan Allen purchases.

Purchased a very expensive dining room table a year ago and started noticing shiny marks appearing. In trying to rub them off with a damp sponge, finish came off. Ethan Allen relays it to "consumer error." The table is barely used and I had followed the Care Instructions on their website. When I made them aware of this, they also blamed my very expensive custom-made table pads. However, the long marks all over the table are a combination of straight-edged, jagged-edged, and some have tight loops. The thickness of the lines is thinner than the thickness of the pads that plus the patterns don't make sense the pads would be causing that added problem.

As a 'courtesy,' they sent out their furniture guy who said to use Old English Lemon Oil, which Ethan Allen's explicitly told me not to do that. He was sent out again this time to spray the table with an alcohol-based solution and nothing changed when he wiped it off. Again he recommended using the lemon oil. Have been in contact with 3 furniture restorers; one said the finish failed but shouldn't have, another said he doesn't know why the finish failed, and the third said he didn't think it was the finish at all but that the stain wasn't fully dry when the finish was applied. In looking at the table pads, he said they were really high quality and wouldn't have caused the problems I'm having. He also told me the quality isn't the same as his mother's furniture that she's had for decades and instead is one step above Havertys.

Either way I'm stuck either purchasing a replacement table or paying to have someone refinish this table the right way for anywhere from $1,000-$2300. Didn't purchase their extended warranty plan because I've never had to do that with any furniture I've ever owned and with Ethan Allen, I didn't think I would have needed it. If you decide to pluck down money based on their reputation, better spend the extra hundreds for the extended warranty and hope that any issues that arise aren't brushed off as "consumer error."

I’ve been a 25-year consumer of Ethan Allen furniture. Since Covid, I’ve purchased almost $25,000 worth of furniture. This January I made a smaller purchase of a bench, two stools and a bed. After the purchase, the sales person directed me to nightstands projected for floor sample, as the line was being discontinued. Two weeks later, the nightstands were now floor samples with a 35% markdown. I agreed to purchase them that Friday. That weekend I noticed they were on sale for 20% off. I also recalled seeing a strange price on a dresser in the same line in the showroom with a very low price.

I rushed to the showroom that Monday, and—to my surprise—the dresser showed the following floor sample sale markdowns: Dresser: original price: $3,100; sale price $2,480, floor sample price: $1,200. Contrarily, the nightstands just had the floor sample sale price: $899 and sold. The nightstands' original price was $1,400 each and the sale price was $1,120. I asked the salesperson to come see the discrepancy and explain the difference in sale pricing of the two items in the same line. I said you gave a 35% discount on something that’s already 20% off; so, in actuality I’m only getting 15% off with an as-is, no-guarantee clause. They told me they only discount the original price, but in front of me was a product discounted 60% from the original price and 50% from the sale price. This severely conflicted their stated policy.

An in-store manager made a call and turned to me and said the dresser price was a mistake. Immediately, I declined to purchase the nightstands. I had lost trust. They made no overture to sooth my distrust. I felt insulted and called corporate customer service. To their credit, they were highly professional. They told me the local director would call within 48 hours. I waited,, and when the 48 hours was coming to a close, I called customer service. They called the director, and I received the most disrespectful and condescending reply. When I answered the phone, she asked, "what can I help you with". I said, "Did you not just speak with customer service". She began to say, “I don’t know what you want. We honored our price for the dresser and we’re not about to make another mistake discounting the nightstands further.”

Confused, I asked, "Who did you honor the dresser for?" I wanted nightstands and I canceled that order because I lost trust in the organization. “Well I don’t know what you want,” she said. "What I want is for you to understand that your mistake has consequences which damaged my trust." She didn’t get what I was trying to convey. She was bent on justifying her mistake. So I asked if there was a higher representative I could speak to. She said, "I can’t give out numbers, but I’ll have them call you." This person appeared young and out of her depth as a supervisor. The exchange appeared combative instead of understanding.

When the VP of operations called, I could detect a vast difference in professionalism and communication. I told her of my experiences in the store and with the director. Her solution was for me to visit other Ethan Allen stores in the area. This further unsettled me, so I asked to speak to the next higher VP of the region. He called and seemed to understand my position and why I decided after 25 years of purchasing history to end my relationship with Ethan Allen. I told him that before I spoke to the district representative I was still redeemable as a customer. But after that exchange, I had no choice but cut ties with Ethan Allen.

I felt so disrespected. It felt as if the district representative was assuming I was there to hustle a deal. As I mentioned, my history did not suggest I was anything but a loyal, paying customer. I never took credit; I paid cash. I realized trust and value are absent in this relationship; so I, my family and friends can never shop there. What happened to Ethan Allen?

I purchased the $450 5 year old “Gold Warranty” for my kitchen dining set. The tabletop began chipping within a year. It’s not a frequently used table and always has coasters and chairs placemats. I sent in pictures of the initial chipping. They took some time to respond and then told me I wasn’t too long after the damage to report it. Recently, I sent in pictures of more chipping. This time the response was that it was chipping due to moisture!!!! What a $450 rip off.

We purchased the Damien Coffee table which we saw in the showroom. When it arrived, it did not look like the one we saw. The pieces on the top were severely uneven, rough edges and dried glue was coming up between the boards. The quality was horrific! I contacted my showroom and customer service in the allotted time and they came to pick it up. My refund was almost half of what I paid. Not only did they charge the 15% restocking fee but charged another $299 to pick it up. So I paid $600 in delivery fees plus 15 % for a damaged piece of merchandise.

It also took me over a month for them to explain to me how they arrived at my refund amount. No transaction receipt was ever provided. It also took many phone calls for someone to even address my request for a receipt. Customer Service in Danbury is severely lacking in customer service. I have been a loyal customer of Ethan Allen for close to 50 years, spending thousands of dollars. I will never purchase from this company again.

This has been the worst experience ever. I purchased 2 sofas from Uptown Park in Houston. It was 2 leather sofas at $5500 each. After less than 2 year the color is wearing off the welt and they have refused to replace them. They claim it’s because of oils in skin. Sadly we will never buy here again. They refuse to handle customers fairly. They rarely even respond to any concerns. Don’t shop here. They will not support you after the purchase and the furniture does not last.

It's been a very difficult journey with Ethan Allen of Pineville, NC. I've had quality control issues at every turn and the warranty service tries to go out of its way not to honor their coverage. The most egregious issue has been with dining room chairs that started breaking apart within the first month of use. Let's consider the timeline for just these items: the chairs were purchased in 2022, arrived in 2023 (due to covid supply chain issues), and we're still working on replacement in 2024 which will no doubt continue into 2025. The best bet to get the store to respond quickly is to work with the credit card companies and get a chargeback. Until then, they don't seem to take the issues very seriously. All I can say is Ethan Allen quality is not there, do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else.

We ordered a near house full of furnishings from Ethan Allen with our new home when moving. With the exceptional assistance of designer head Michael ** and his team at the Amherst, NY store. Many items that arrived were perfect, as expected (well made and beautiful). And there have been a few quality and/or workmanship problems. Each handled professionally and politely by the Customer Service team. They have done exactly what you’d hope for in Customer Service (if any items arrive damaged or made incorrectly).

Like others state, sure you may need to send pictures, which I completely understand. They have stood by us without exception; very high service standards and always re-delivering correct items any time there was any issue. Due to this, I continue working with Michael, Christine and the entire talented staff and will continue to purchase more in future confidently. Many of the items and the design help have transformed our home. Just beautiful items and talented, professional, and expert advice they stood behind.

Sadly, never going to shop at Ethan Allen again after 45 years of purchasing their furniture. Please, consumers, do NOT purchase their Hutchinson Manor Rug. It is expensive, but woefully inferior quality. I wrote a letter complaining about it, sent pictures, did NOT ask for anything but for them to acknowledge that they would do their due diligence and consider removing it from their carpet line-up so that this wouldn’t happen to other unsuspecting customers. The carpet is not even two years old, was expensive, and shows terrible signs of wear and fraying edges. They said ”oh that’s a wear pattern”… Oh really? Offered to send someone out to rotate it… Really? So that the “wear patterns” can be seen in a prominent spot in my living room? Ridiculous platitudes and silly talking points, taken from the Ethan Allen handbook of how to get rid of customers with legitimate complaints.

Mind you, we have spent thousands of dollars at Ethan Allen. Case in point, we passed down a 9x12 area rug to our son, purchased in 1992. It has been professionally cleaned every two years, and still looks beautiful, with NO signs of wear. The one I have now looks like something I could have cut from a roll at Home Depot for a tenth of the price. Like I stated, at least acknowledge that this shouldn’t happen with ANY Ethan Allen product. Your reputation precedes you.

I purchased a chair and sofa from Ethan Allen and it was so poorly made… I insisted they return my money which they did. I also asked them to return my $299 delivery fee and they refused … The furniture that was sent to me should have never ever left the factory … Subpar is an understatement… I believe the only reason I got my money back was because I sent a letter to the president of Ethan Allen furniture company, which was addressed by his personal assistant…. For them to be so cheap and petty as to keep my delivery fee is outrageous .. I am a senior citizen and cannot afford to be screwed out of $300.. I was only able to post one picture otherwise there would be other examples of the sloppy workmanship of the products that was sent to my home.

I went with my wife...picked out 2 chairs and a sofa... all super expensive. Chairs were ok..and nice. The sofa which was super expensive... and took months and months to come.... was just 'ok'. The cushion material has wrinkles in it -- like it looks as if its 10 years old. Kinda lame for such an expensive piece. Don't get me wrong... it's 'good' furniture - just expected more from such a top brand. The image is right after delivery. (And same if I reverse the cushions.)
