My experience with Ethan Allen Little Rock has been exasperating. After calling 3 times regarding order status - and being told once they would get back to me but they did not - I had to call the store manager. Still waiting on my order of 2-26 to be completed - I found overall customer service to be extremely poor particularly to someone who has spent well over $20,000 dollars with that store. My experience with EA elsewhere has been good - I will not do business with this one again.

Ordered living room furniture and rug in December 31, 2014 from the central NJ store. We were advised that delivery may be delayed because rug is hand made in India. When we followed in February they said May, and today they are saying July! The salesperson/designer that helped us to pick out the rug, though helpful in all other ways, told us that delays for high-end products usually come with delays and that currently it's an Industry wide problem and that's all she could say about that. Cannot imagine how Ethan Allen keeps its customers satisfied with delays such as this.

My wife and I order two white linen chairs from Ethan Allen in Nov. 2015, and were delivered in January 2015. Within 60 days we notice one of the chairs back cushions had discolor to a darker shade, as well the seat cushions were no longer holding their shape and were very flatten in appearance. We first brought the discoloring to our sales designer attention with a positive response, it would be taken care. Then, with no word or contact from anyone from Ethan allen, we elected to go to the store and ask for a follow up with the discoloring as well bring up the cushion concern. Well, needless to say, here we are 80 days later with nothing being corrected, much less a follow up.

We were told today that the store manager is going to come to look at the chairs at your home and determine if we have the correct cushions. No one seems to care or is willing to follow up with questions ask. It seems we are out a great deal if money with a product that the only reason we bought it for was the quality we thought we were getting. Service, follow up, and is very questionable. Will not purchase again from Ethan Allen, unless problem is resolve.

Purchased a sleeper sofa with air mattress. Took two delivery attempt to get it in correct room. First time to use the air pump would not work. Second time would not work - my fault. Third time air valve would not stay closed. Contacted the store numerous time and if you got a call back it could be days. Finally called corporate office and initially very promising but end results the same. Received call from an admin person about three weeks ago and agreed to try the foam mattress as a replacement for the air mattress. Had to drive 80 miles to find out they did not have in store to try and see if I liked or not.

EA ordered and after three weeks have not received. Not sure if and when I will be contacted. I could go on an on but bottom line is I am sorry I went in the store and will not make another purchase there. I have not received satisfaction from cooperative down. Like other reviews when they have your money goodbye. Spent $2700 and still searching for something good. Shame on me for going in EA store.

Ok, no problem I just want it fixed. They said I had to call the repairman **. I did and after a few days ** said I had to order the spring assembly thru Ethan Allen. I called ** and she said that she even called corporate and they replied that they no longer stocked this spring assembly.

I asked if they could just recommend where to get one and she said that she couldn't. She told me to get ** to try and find one. I stated that they are dumping this problem on me and she stated that she could not help me. I will never buy from them again and will put on our union complaint board about companies to beware of buying from them. My daughter is buying a house this summer and she will buy elsewhere. I am a united steel workers member and we all help each other with good and bad service companies and contractors. With just a little help from E. Despite our frequent calls asking about delivery, she would not call us back. In frustration, we escalated our question to **, an Ethan Allen manager who promised to call us back. Disappointingly he never did. What are we left to think? Here are my conclusions: Ethan Allen furniture is priced higher than most but the high price doesn't mean good service. The sales people seem concerned with one thing only: getting paid. After that, you're on your own. Don't buy anything from Ethan Allen stores, least of all if you want to know when it will be delivered. Read the reviews. The Ethan Allen people do care, about getting paid, NOT about their customers.

I ordered a table and cabinet which cost more than $5000. The table arrived scratched and had to be repaired by Ethan Allen - at great inconvenience to me because of having to take time off from work to arrange for the repair. A knob fell off the cabinet a few weeks after delivery because the screw was defective. Rather than have to call the company again and miss work, I tried to replace the screw myself. It was a non-standard size so I had to live with a door that wasn't functional.

Finally, after living with this non-functional door for more than a year, I decided I would bite the bullet and have Ethan Allen replace the screw. They told me I would need to pay $10. I was irritated by their pettiness but agreed and gave them my credit card info over the phone. They then said they would fax me a sales order which I needed to sign and return to them - for a $10 screw! I protested and asked them to just send me the screw and not put me through any more inconvenience. The rep refused. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM EA AGAIN! Their quality is poor and their customer service is worse.

I had been told, when I was in the store shopping, your 'as is' policy. I just did not think about it on the day we were working in my house. Leather on right armrest looked overstretched - dull, rough, wrinkled. 3 weeks later, a hole with 1/4 inch diameter appeared on the armrest. Top layer peeled off. Another tiny spot (1 mm) at the back peeled off/missing too. My 2 kids did not have access to any thing that was sharp enough to cut their own skin. The customer service denied our request to repair the sofa. The manager of the store (a guy) insisted that since the damage happened in our home, it is not covered by the warranty. He said, "I know you don't want to hear this but this isn't supposed to be used as a kitchen set. You should have a piece of glass or cushion on top on it!"

I wish I'd read this bad reviews before. I spent 10,000 in furniture in Edina, MN. Since I live in North Dakota, they said it would take longer than usual for the delivery. But it's been a long long wait, more than 3 months now. The sales person and manager explained they need to hire another company to deliver the furniture, which takes them away from the responsibility of the delay, they clearly wash their hands. Also, several times they said they would call me, and they didn't. They charged me extra for delivery because I live far away, then they shouldn't use the distance as an excuse. If I live far away, but I pay a lot extra for delivery, I should receive the same treatment and respect as everyone else. Hopefully, whenever I get my furniture, I'll be happy about it...

I have owned the Woodstock recliner for 6 years. It rarely gets used, because it is in my second home. I spent over $1000 on it and waited 12 weeks for delivery. One would think that after laying out that much cash and waiting that long, you would receive a quality piece of merchandise. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FORM THE TRUTH!

After about a year the varnish on the hand rails started peeling. It got so bad that I eventually had to sand down and refinish with a Minwax polyurethane that has been very durable. What sub par substance Ethan Allen used is beyond me? That was a minor irritation I lived with compared to the next issue.. A guest had trouble getting out of the chair because the leg area seized up. Upon turning over I noticed that one of the linkages had bent and the pivot point was distorted and bowed out. I also noticed that the steel was pretty thin to be subjected to such high leverage forces. Long story short, I tried to straighten the bend linkage piece (which I did with a vice device), but since it is cheap steel, it is now weakened and after 5-8 reclines, the problem reoccurs again. The recliner is now toast because the problem re-occurs. If I had a welding shop in my garage, I suppose I could repair it. However it is now going to the dump.

Thanks Ethan Allen for a horrible product. Poor Design, Cheap and thin steel, period. I also own a similar design mission recliner I bought from Macy's for 1/3 the price and received in 1 week.. It gets used 4x as much as it is in my 1st home. Guess what---still works like a Swiss Watch. I checked the recliner mechanism: thicker steel and better design around the linkage pivot points.

Moral to this story? If you value name and style over reliability and quality...buy Cheesy Allen. I will never even set foot their stores again, let alone buy anything from them again. Hope this helps the next guy/gal looking to buy this piece of junk. STAY AWAY!! And believe me I am going to tell all my new Ethan Allen cheesy recliner story.

A glass shelf in our China cabinet, product number 26-6318, spontaneously collapsed and caused several pieces of our Saint Louis crystal to fall onto other pieces of that crystal, and onto a few pieces of Wedgewood China, on the shelf below. The damage amounts to approximately $3,000. Nothing has been placed or taken from this cabinet in the 10.5 years we've lived in our condo. The cause of the shelf collapsing was the spontaneous and simultaneous breakage of several plastic shelf pins. A few days ago we visited the Ethan Allen store in Lynnwood and learned that the pins in the current China cabinets are metal pins; the reason is obvious - the plastic ones were inappropriate. It is negligence by Ethan Allen that has caused this problem. I purchased this table in 2011 and within a year the top became shiny and cloudy and looked dirty all of the time. I called the local Ethan Allen store manager where I purchased the table, who sent of a tech out to inspect the table and take pictures. His report said the finish wasn't right. The manager called and rudely said she would do a one-time replacement of top, but that is not their usual practice. When I asked how to take care of it, she said to use a tablecloth - end of conversation. We always use placements and it is just my husband and I, it is not getting a lot of wear and tear. We moved at the end of 2012 and the table was in storage for a year. Once in our new house I noticed that the same shiny, cloudy finish was there again and my husband, who is oblivious to everything, kept mentioning how bad it looked. Over the weekend we had company and had to put the table leaf in and it looked like two completely different tables. The finish on the leaf was what the table should look like (picture attached). I called corporate customer service because the local store manager was rude the first time. The customer service rep apologized and said she would pass the complaint along to her superior.

I specifically said that I did not want to talk to the local Ethan Allen store manager. Well, guess who called the next day? The local manager, being overly friendly, but not quite so helpful. Unfortunately, her reasoning for the problem is that you cannot and should not wipe this table. I explained that I used a barely damp cloth and dried it immediately. She asked if we used it everyday? I said yes, it is our kitchen table. And she said it is not designed for that much use!!! Basically, you can look at the table and eat on it once in awhile, but don't wipe it off - with anything! Also, don't put it near any natural light!!! I said this is sold as a "dining table", which you typically eat off of and need to clean, and is in a kitchen or dining room that probably has windows. I told her that it looked terrible and since Ethan Allen wasn't going to help that I would have to get it refinished. She seemed totally fine with that. I asked her if she had any recommendations and she said no, but to look on Angie's list.

Needless to say I am unsatisfied and disgusted with this product. This table cost over $1000 (table only), and for me, that is a lot of money. It is not like I have a house full of furniture from Ethan Allen and have complained about everything. It is the only piece I have from there, and has held up the worst. I have googled this table and found many other complaints with the finish, so it is an issue that is a flaw, and needs to be addressed.

I purchased the Melrose couch from Ethan Allen. I was specifically looking for a tufted couch and looked at this one online because it is advertised as tufted. I saw it in the showroom--it is tufted with buttons. I ordered it and at the suggestion of the salesperson opted not to include the buttons, the salesperson, who pushed me not to include buttons, never informed me that if I did not include the buttons, the couch would no longer be tufted. I waited 8 weeks, and finally got the couch. Instead of being tufted like I expected, it is an ugly patchwork pattern with no tufting. I called the salesperson to see what the deal was and she instructed me, no I did not want tufting that was too traditional and not what I wanted. She obviously did not know what I wanted. I then got the run around for 4 weeks of them not returning my call in a timely manner to see if the couch could be tufted.

When I finally got tired of being treated like my complaint wasn't valid, I asked to speak to the manager, who promptly told me the couch could not be tufted without buttons. When I told her I didn't want buttons, she replied then that the only other option was to pay them $300 to return the couch--I never would have bought this couch if I would have been informed it was not tufted without buttons and now they want me to pay them to return it! Horrible customer service. They had no intention of ever making me happy with this purchase. For the amount of money I spent there, I expected to be treated much better. There are so many other furniture sales places out there, do not waste your money here. Go somewhere where accurately describe their product and treat you with some respect.

Unfortunately the shutters were high quality, but the installation was not. I gave the installer several opportunities to correct the install at THEIR convenience, I had to miss work each time. Their last attempt was even worse than before. EA agreed to come out "AGAIN" but would only do it at the convenience of the vendor, in other words, I was expected to take off work again. I finally drew the line and said I can meet the vendor at my home after 5 or anytime on Saturday, the vendor refused. In other words, the customer's time doesn't matter. I gave them enough opportunities, enough is enough.

EA said the meeting would have to be during business hours. Since I contracted with EA, why can't they come during the times I said I'm available? These times are well within EA's business time. I'm tired of accommodating the vendor. He had several opportunities to correct the problem and failed miserably. EA's customer service is awful. They accommodate their vendors more than the paying customer. Also, I spend approximately $35,000 in two years. One would think I would get a SMALL amount of consideration for my time. NOPE, NONE. I live in Utah and have bought furniture from Ethan Allen for almost 40 years. I ordered a piece of furniture over the telephone from Ethan Allen in Albuquerque for my granddaughter in El Paso Texas. This was the second piece of furniture I had bought over the telephone from them. I gave them my credit card information and paid an additional $400 for delivery to El Paso. When I called about the piece of furniture, the salesperson said it had come in while she was on vacation. She said she would call me back after she checked on a "ballpark" delivery date.

When she didn't call after two days, I called her back. She politely told me the person in delivery would call me with the information. Feeling like I had been brushed off after spending $2700 on that ONE purchase, I called the owner/manager Jim **. When I told him I felt like it had been poor customer service, he unleashed a tirade calling me "predatory" and "rude". He said, "We are not going to hold your hand over one piece of furniture." He also said, "We are not going to call you and tell you your furniture is in, and then call you two days later to tell you when it will be delivered." I suppose making a couple of phone calls after taking your money, is too much to expect. I do believe this man has some sort of personality disorder. When I checked review websites, stories about Jim ** taking people's money and refusing to refund money abound. He throws people out of his store if they won't take his crap.

I still haven't heard when the furniture will be delivered. I thought Ethan Allen Corporate would be embarrassed to have someone like Jim ** representing them, but from the looks of this website, this is a wide-spread problem that goes all the way to the top. What a sad ending to my love affair with Ethan Allen.

They sent service out and he told me to open up the pillows and refluff them once a week. Paid $2400.00 for the sofa and it is just not made well. The remainder of my furniture, two chairs and an ottoman, were supposed to be in production last week. I was told yesterday that it will be another month since they do not have the frames.

It has already been over 3 months. Someone should have told me the truth upfront so that I could have ordered from someone else. I told them I wanted to cancel since they have given me false information and have changed the ship date twice. Ethan Allen furniture is all imported and not good quality anymore. I am stuck with a custom sofa that coordinated with the chairs that I do not have. My whole living room has been put on hold for three months. Really poor customer service and poor product. No options, no other stores that could deliver, just "so sorry". Unacceptable from my standpoint. I thought I was paying for service quality that included customer service and problem resolution. Worst. Chair. Ever. Our Woodstock recliner was delivered in May of 2011, now three years old. After subconsciously picking at the many bubbles in the wood finish on the arms, I sanded down to the bare wood and resealed myself. A few months ago, the reclining mechanism started balking and now reclines only when the chair seems to feel "so inclined." Occasionally, it lurches back when someone is sitting perfectly still! Today, I am sewing a new fabric cover for the shredded footrest with yardage that I had the presence of mind to order at the time of purchase.

The EA bed, dresser and secretary my husband grew up with in the 1950's are of excellent quality, have endured many household moves and are still part of our family in the guest room. However, we could not be more disappointed in the poor quality of this chair! I actually feel sorry for our recliner who was surely proud to wear the EA label. The EA "craftsmen" who did the mechanics, wood finishing and fabric making should be ashamed. We have not reported this to Ethan Allen as we desire no further contact with a company that has built a fine reputation through the work ethic of previous decades and now appears to cut corners and live on its laurels. Shame, shame on EA for so cheapening a respected product "made in the USA."

Updated on 05/22/2018: Addendum to Review of July 24, 2014. Finally hauling our Woodstock recliner to the dump for a proper burial. The "Worst. Chair. Ever." as I dubbed it almost four years ago finally reached the point of being dangerous. I hope the upholsterers named on the tag have found careers with other companies more worthy of their labors. Valantin **, Maria **, Jeff **, another illegible, and final inspector Linda ** did their parts well. The fabric creators, wood finishers and mechanical workers have no reason whatsoever to feel anything but shame.

I had a few months earlier purchased a floor model recliner and shortly after a spring broke and a bolt fell off. I asked the same sales person if someone could fix the chair and got the same response that it was against "corporate policy" to make any repairs to floor models. In total I spent $7000 at EA but additional purchases will be made elsewhere. Be advised that after the sale, Ethan Allen's "corporate policy" is to blow you off. Readers, pay attention to all the reviews!! Ethan Allen products are not what they were in the past. What you see in the showroom is not what you get. We ordered a flat, or tight backed sofa and a chair, as well as draperies. The draperies were perfect, because they were not made by Ethan Allen. However, the sofa and chair were very poorly made and had to be returned. We put the deposit on Discover Card and the balance on a Chase Visa card. Our experience could have been much worse, had we not had the credit card companies advocating for us. Discover card was great to deal with; Chase Visa, not as helpful.

Back to the sofa and chair. Upon delivery, I noticed the sofa cushion had some "puckering". The delivery person, a long time Ethan Allen employee, said not to worry, EA would take care of it. My mistake was accepting delivery! The puckering rapidly got worse and worse and the sofa looked like it was thirty years old. The back of the sofa then developed a dip and that also started to pucker! About a week later, the arm rests were puckering, too. They sent someone to look at it, and I was told they decided what, if anything, would be done. The cushion we had was the top of the line, down with springs. It was extremely uncomfortable and poorly made. The feathers were working their way out. They do not return calls; you have to call them.

One day, we noticed a pucker on the chair, back cushion, by the arm rest. I then saw the material on the seat cushion was cut short and fraying!! They never came to look at it. I finally received a lower grade cushion, which they said would hopefully take care of the puckering on the sofa seat cushion. Of course, that did not help because the workmanship (sewing of casing) was so poor. By the way, I was told there would be an up charge for the downgraded cushion! When I pointed out it was a downgrade, he admitted his "mistake". None of these problems is the designer's fault; they are wonderful. They can do nothing about the poor quality. There are much better places to buy furniture out there, that are of much higher quality!! Do not be fooled by the showroom displays. If, after reading all the reviews, you decide to risk it, do NOT pay cash or check. Use Discover or AMEX. Do not accept furniture with even a slight defect. Be smart, though, go elsewhere!!!

It looked ridiculous and they gave me grief when I called them to tell them to take them down. The rug we bought for my son's room literally disintegrated, even though there is little to no traffic in his room as he is away at college. I've attached pictures. I received no apology and was told that the 4 year old rug was out of warranty and that the pictures looked like dust, not latex. This company appears to be customer-oriented when making the sale, but after you hand over your money, they could not care less about the customer. Arrogant, rude, and unresponsive. I called them and was again offered no evidence of concern on their part and was only told I was out of the one year warranty. She did offer to look at pictures that I emailed. Therefore, the table that received (after waiting 3 months) was finished however the "craftsmen" decided to finish it. The "repairman" did eventually come out to my home and was able to improve the look of the finish, but it was a very unpleasant experience to deal with this company.

Years ago as a newly wed, my only hope of enjoying Ethan Allen furniture was to go into their store and dream. I loved their furniture, but much too expensive for me. Their design staging was A+ and it was a treat just to browse. I gave them a 3 star only because I have several other pieces of their furniture that I've had no problems with. It would be a 1 star if only for their service. Eventually I was able to purchase one piece then another and so on. To this day, I am still enjoying the pieces I bought. Yes, I agree, quality and service was, then, something to question. I had to respond to the comments here since it seems nothing has changed in well over 25 years.

I bought 6 of the dark oak Royal Charter chairs. Almost from delivery they began separating at the seams on the backs. Now these are heavy chairs and by all appearances were sturdy. I went back to the store several times and finally the design/sales person told me to bring them back so he could see them, which I did. Mind you, I was told they would repair them, not replace them. I waited and waited for over a month. Finally I went back and the same designer said, "What, you still haven't received your chairs?" He walked over to the floor models and gave me two of them. I accepted them, but one chair eventually broke on the back. No rough housing, nothing. My husband leaned back, and crack!

One of the ones given to me as a replacement split at the back seam just like the others. I still have it all these years later, and it is still split. The one with the broken back, I threw out. I gave up trying to get Ethan Allen to take responsibility. This was a very sad experience as I so loved their furniture, and do have other pieces that have met the time test well. I've seen a few of their newer pieces lately that I have thought about buying but I think I will deal with a company that has better customer service since I see they have not improved on customer service.

Junk arrived and they had shortened its length, depth and height wise. I figured they've added more foam in the pillows and taken away wood and other materials. I believe we are victims of the same repeated story I read on this site: Ethan Allen takes forever to deliver and they do not have the same kind of service they had 15-20 years ago. The first time I purchased from EA was around 20 years ago and had no problems with them. Numerous items were purchased and all arrived on time and as ordered.

This time we purchased several items for our living room. The rug and lamp arrived fine, but of the additional two pillows that were purchased for the sofas one of them came in wrong and had to be replaced. This was a minor issue, but the drapes that were ordered were completely wrong and did not even look like what we ordered. It appeared that they attempted to give us someone else's order. We are still waiting for the correct ones to arrive.

The two most expensive items for the living room were the two sofas. Within two to three weeks from the date we placed the order, they informed us they were going to have an additional 30 day delay (four months; standard delivery for EA is usually around three months). We immediately informed the sales person that we were prepared to wait an additional month, but would not accept any further delays on the two sofas, especially since we were told they cannot guarantee any delivery dates. It appears that they are at the mercy of overseas vendors over which they have no control.

At the same time, we told them that we were willing to wait for the drapes, since they were not as essential as the sofas. Sure enough, she emailed a few weeks later that an additional 30 day delay would take place. Again, without any guarantee of a delivery date. We immediately emailed the sales person our request to cancel the two sofas from the order and requested a reimbursement for the deposit we made for these two items. They offered an additional discount on the entire order, but we just could not wait five months for them (and possibly even longer). We also informed her how much was due back to us as a result of the cancellation.

AT THE SAME TIME WE SUBMITTED A DISPUTE FOR THAT AMOUNT WITH OUR CC COMPANY. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU HAVE UP TO 120 DAYS TO FILE A DISPUTE ON A CHARGE. IF YOU DON'T, YOU ARE STUCK WITH THE CHARGE. EA has issued a credit for around 50% of the amount that was due. We sent an email to our sales person asking how they calculated the credit and why they did not issue a credit for the amount we had stated was due.

She responded that she did not handle credits and that she had sent everything to the "office person" that handles this type of thing. We are still waiting for an answer from this "office person". The difference is still under dispute through our CC company. We are currently waiting for a response from the store. THE LESSON IS THAT WHEN YOU PAY WITH A CC, THE DISPUTE IS HANDLED BY THE CC COMPANY AND A TEMPORARY CREDIT IS ISSUED TO YOUR ACCOUNT UNTIL THE DISPUTE IS SETTLED. IF WE HAD PAID WITH CASH OR CHECK, WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THIS TYPE OF PROTECTION.

IF YOU EVER HAVE AN ISSUE WITH A MERCHANT LIKE EA MAKE SURE YOU INFORM YOUR CC COMPANY OF EVERYTHING THAT TRANSPIRED BETWEEN YOU AND THE MERCHANT. COMMUNICATE ONLY IN WRITING OR VIA EMAIL WITH THE MERCHANT AND FORWARD EVERYTHING TO THE CC COMPANY SO THAT THEY HAVE A RECORD OF WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE DISPUTE.

In conclusion, I have lost faith in E/A. The impression I have of them is that they presently depend too much on undependable external/overseas vendors over which they have no control. This type of set up could delay or mess up your order. I do not believe I will ever buy again from this company.

Seems the sales person had ordered one (or maybe 2) parts of the media center in the wrong size so they had part of it and I'd have to call the store and re-order it and try to straighten it all out. They would, if I wanted deliver part of the media center. I didn't want that. When I called the store, which the shipment center told me to, no one took responsibility or even seemed to know how to deal with this problem. I asked to speak to the store manager. My guests have come and gone and we sat on folding chairs. I never would have walked into that store had I known I would wait that long. The fact that they helped themselves to the balance a month before I had my furniture feels like salt in the wound.

I purchased four pillows from Ethan Allen located at Rockville Pike, MD with the understanding that three were marked final sale and one was at the full price. As soon as we took those pillows home, we realized that they were different from what we thought we wanted, and we have no use of them. On 11/9/2013, my husband and I went to the store to return the full priced pillow and to see if Ethan Allen could do us a favor to let us return the three final sale pillows. The same salesman treated us rudely as he did when I purchased the pillows from him two days earlier, told us even the full price pillow is not returnable. Then the Store manager, Robert **, came out, snatched my receipt, and started to flip the receipt back and forth and make marks on it.

When I tried to get my receipt back, He yelled, "Don't pull paper out of my hand! Get out of my store, I will call the police!" He then reached the phone to call the police. We are very decent customers. I was planning to make Ethan Allen my furniture store of choice because of the great reputation of the company. We just bought a chair for about $1,500 the week before. I am so shocked that a company with such a prestigious product and reputation hired such nasty and incompetent people to manage the store. After such an experience, I can't imagine anyone wanting to have anything to do with Ethan Allen ever again.

Needless to say, 6 months after our order was placed, we are extremely dissatisfied with this company and how they have handled the situation.

Entrapment describes this store. Once you order something, even if it is not a customized item, they will not let you cancel or change. They have two personalities: pre sale and post sale. They change their attitude once you pay and unhappy about the item. I bought a desk but the sales girl told me that the system didn't allow her to order the color I wanted. She said that it came in a single color. I made a huge mistake of ordering it in the color that I didn't want. They told me that it will come in 2-3 months.

One week later, I called and said that I was unhappy with it and I want to cancel the order. Only then they told me that they actually HAD the color I wanted. The manager also told me that the furniture that would take 2-3 months to deliver was already delivered to the store so I had to pay restocking fee of 33%. I would have been happy if she apologized for the mistakes they made and meet me halfway. I would have gladly paid some restocking fee. But the sale girl was telling her a different story and the manager said it is "He said she said". Really? Is that something a store manager should say to a customer? One thing for sure, I will never buy another piece of furniture from them again.

I submitted a claim and EA reviewed photos taken by a young delivery man and told me it was my problem - not theirs. They do not stand behind the product or fabrics. Unfortunately I should have learned my lesson with them 4 years ago when I bought a chair for $1300 and had to have it re-upholstered within 4 years and the frame broke. They will not stand behind that either. I have been a long time Ethan Allen customer. Today's EA was forced to try to attract young buyers by offering more affordable stylish furniture, with the EA name. They had to begin to offer more modern furniture and update styles more often in order to attract these buyers just to keep their doors open. Long gone are the days of adding to pieces for years and years. They just can't be competitive today by doing it the old way. So quality becomes harder to control when you have numerous furniture lines compared to the 7 lines they had in the 70's. So now, if you purchase a base sofa, you will still get a decent sofa, but if you want the best sofa, you need to upgrade on the fabric including leathers and cushion type.

Ethan Allen still does a very good job of building furniture in comparison to the other guys for the price. Look at the sofa structure and then go to Rooms to Go and see the difference. Today, most sofas in the standard furniture centers do not have cushions that can be removed from the sofa for cleaning. They are attached for cheaper pricing and using less fabric. They do not have 8 way hand tied springs and EA does have this regardless of where it’s manufactured. I have found that EA is shipping my furniture much quicker today than they did ten years ago. I have been pleased with everything that I have purchased. I bought a Bennett leather sofa two years ago. I purchased a grade 5 leather (very thick) and a cushion that is a spring down cushion.

My sofa is wonderful and it looks brand new. It is very comfortable as well. No peeling leather on this sofa. I did purchase a library table that didn't deliver on time, so I asked to cancel believing that I would not receive my deposit back. They were able to cancel my order and all my money was returned to me. I am still a loyal shopper; however, not everything I buy comes from Ethan Allen. I do hope they can continue to stay in business, as it is terribly difficult in today's struggling economy to find a furniture company that builds the furniture and offers multiple options and finishes.

I have purchased many items from Ethan Allen over the years. I'm sad to see the quality decrease and customer service completely decline. Most recently, I purchased a rug (8 x 10). It was not inexpensive and it was not on sale. The 8 weeks promised delivery turned into 12, and then longer. This delayed completion of our bedroom as the bed could not be delivered until the carpet was down. When it finally arrived, it was lovely; however, uneven on about 1/3 of one side. I hope I never have to use it in another space as this will be apparent. I knew from reading feedback that it was worthless to complain to E&A. I also did not want to wait for another 12 or 14 weeks to move back into our bedroom, so I'm living with it. No call from the person who was helping us, nothing ("Do you like your rug? Are you happy?").

It doesn't stop there. I live in a very old house and the windows required custom blinds. I purchased these (regrettably now) from Ethan Allen against my better judgement. They do have lovely material. The workman who actually came to the house was nothing but professional and did a fabulous job on the Roman blinds. The issue that I have is that this was supposed to take 8 weeks. I had to call at 8 weeks (no - no call from the same "designer"). Amazingly, she suggested that he hadn't stopped by to pick up the material. I have to question the value add of these "designers" (I found the material - she hadn't even opened the books or attempted to find any when we arrived for our appointment). So once he finally had the material, I had to wait another 9+ weeks for him to do the work and install the blinds.

The designer never called me once with an update or to tell me that appointments were going to be broken. I had to call her every time. 4 windows - not inexpensive. I have not heard from her wondering if I like the blinds or if I'm happy. She did, however call and hound me with messages for an entire week (I was on vacation and chose not to respond until I returned) asking for the remaining payment. I'm frankly appalled at this level of - or lack thereof - professionalism. I can easily find my own materials and will do so in the future. There are other places to buy furniture and I will frequent them. Did I mention I'm an empty nester with 9 more rooms to go? Their loss, not mine. I do not recommend using Ethan Allen.

I have friends who've had similar or worse experiences and these reviews do not sound at all out of line with what I'm hearing or what I've experienced. Sad to see an institution that's been around for so long go so far off track. Do I even need to mention the fact that there are other fabulous designers out there who are happy to take my money and give me a status update occasionally and ask if I'm happy with the outcome?

I purchased a fabric recliner from the Torrance, CA location approximately 4-6 months ago. The floor model was in leather and very soft and comfortable. I didn't want the recliner in leather and was told by the salesperson that fabric will be just as comfortable because the two back cushions (neck and lumbar) had plenty of air between the fabric so it will mimic the comfort of the leather. We both agreed that I would have to upgrade the seat cushion because that was too hard. I have arthritis in my neck and a weak lower back.

When I received the recliner (in a timely manner), it was beautiful to look at, and the most uncomfortable chair ever. The neck and lumbar cushions were as hard as a rock, nothing like the leather floor model. I immediately notified my salesperson to change out all of the cushions (at an added expense to me) with down. The salesperson was very accommodating and wanted to come to my home to meet with me and the Upholsterer. We all met and agreed to the original idea of upgrading the seat, and in addition I told both the salesperson and the Upholsterer that I wanted to change the back cushions as well substituting the fiber fill with down. All agreed. Long story short, after several tries, the lumbar cushions do not support the back and throw my neck and back out.

I didn't notify Ethan Allen for some months because I was trying to see if I could add other pillows to make it work. Nothing worked so I finally contacted the Torrance store. I told my salesperson that all I wanted was the original cushions back, I didn't even ask for my money back and was told she would need to check with her manager to see what they could do because it had been so many months. She also said that she would have told me NOT to have down in the lumbar cushion but she was there when I requested just that ( I'm not the expert, she is). That was 1 1/2 weeks ago, and I have heard nothing from the store. I left a message today (10/11/13) for the Regional Manager Cynthia ** because now I would like to get my money back on the chair itself or some resolution.

As the room is also our family room with our Large Screen LED TV...we wanted the Sectional to have motion (Incliners or Recliners). We shopped at 5 different local higher end stores, as we wanted top grain 100% Leather...not bonded junk, or matched with vinyl pieces...

We walked into our local Ethan Allen store and briefly stated that we were looking for a Sectional Sofa with Motion. The Sales/Designer snobbily asked, "Is this for your cottage or your basement?" What the heck?!?!!? What a horrible assumption and verbalization by a sales representative. How do they make sales with that kind of arrogance?!?!?! Little did she know, as we never got to the point of discussing it, we had $10,000 Cash to pay for said "Basement Furniture". She not only lost a sale, Ethan Allen lost a Customer who would have been a repeat Customer, had we been treated well. One Bad Apple...???

We will never walk in an Ethan Allen Store again. Overly Sensitive??? As Business owners, ourselves, we do not think so! The Sales Rep is the first impression one gets of a store and corporation... and this was not a good one. We never eat at that end of the table, and the foam-backed pads were always on. There was no water mark there or on the side of the table or on the underside of the pads. When we called the salesperson at the Maple Shade, NJ store where we bought the furniture, we were told this was not unusual, and was due to shipping before the wood had fully cured. When we called the customer care center they sent a workman out to look at it. He was more interested in obtaining the refinishing work than listening to us. Based on his review our warranty claim was denied. We hired our own expert who agreed that it was a manufacturing defect. When we gave his report to the customer care center we learned that the Maple Shade store was not a part of Ethan Allen (despite there being no other designation), and the service rep we'd been dealing with (who never gave her last name) had to refer us to Ethan Allen corporate. With no further investigation they also denied our claim. So now to litigation or eat the $1000 it will take to repair the table. Guess which way we're going to go?

Also we purchased our table and chairs from the Swedish home collection. 13 years later and absolutely still beautiful. I purchased the library coffee table for the living room and a magazine got wet on the wood. I bought my sons sleigh bed with trundle and his nightstand and bureau just beautiful. I am wondering if the craftsmanship or quality has changed in the last decade.

I feel awful for the people who have spent all that money on furnishing their homes and are not completely satisfied. The company did appear to be all about making the customer happy. I purchased a couch where I picked the fabric out. My fabric on all our chairs and rockers have held up wonderfully. We ordered a sofa on June 02, 2013 @ Ethan Allen's East Brunswick, NJ show room by selecting a floor sample. The price was ~$3800 and we were advised by Design Consultant that we can reduce the price by choosing lower grade fabric. We chose a different color of fabric with lower grade. It was clearly communicated that the sofa will be completely same except the fabric. The sofa was delivered on July 29, 2013. We got really disappointed by seeing this. There were many defects/anomalies/discrepancies found as per the sample sofa; we chose at the show room. This was NOT the same sofa we tested in the store. 1. The nail heads were missing, 2. Cushions were of lower grade as per sample; 3. The Quality of workman ship was very poor. The tufting was not done properly and is very loose and does not give the same look that we liked in the floor sample.

On the same day of delivery, we contacted the East Brunswick store to file our complaint. The designer visited our home after few days to verify our concerns. After examining the sofa the lady said this is our fault because we did not include Nail Heads in our order, the fabric is loose because of the quality of the fabric we chose and the cushion quality is also as per our order. We iterated that we order the same sofa as the floor sample except with different color & quality/grade fabric without any pluses and minuses. We explained that it was never communicated to us that the Nail heads and Cushion quality are additional attributes which we need to include specifically in our purchase order. We said how we could know this without proper communication.

After following up for more than a week the store design consultant contacted us and said that Ethan Allen will solve the first two issues (NailHeads and Cushions) on the additional cost of ~$550. I said this is NOT acceptable as this is not our fault. The company should resolve without any additional money as we paid as per the sample. Otherwise we DO NOT want this sofa and wanted to return it. We also tried to reach their regional manager by phone couple of times and left voice messages and not got any response yet. We are really disappointed with Ethan Allen.

My husband and I purchased an Ethan Allen Bella Queen Mattress Set about one year ago. The disappointment is almost unbelievable! It is as though this is NOT the same bed we tested in the store. My husband, in particular, wanted this style of bed - not too much padding, but still enough padding to be comfortable. I actually wanted a big pillow top. However, I did try the bed in the store and thought it was comfortable. Once it was delivered, WOW! We were BOTH disappointed immensely. The mattress is the comfort and quality of a mattress set priced at $500 to $600. We have a very old Ethan Allen mattress (20+ years) and it never caved in, but had very little padding as they were made then. We have rooms of furniture bought from them at that same time, and recently bought a 2nd bedroom set and are happy with the furniture that we bought then and now.

HOWEVER, I highly suggest that you do NOT buy a mattress from them. If you want an expensive mattress, look elsewhere. We are now purchasing a Stearns and Foster to replace this terrible choice. I have been sleeping on a couch all this time. My husband is actually thinking of keeping the 20+-year-old bed and giving away the one-year-old bed. It is that uncomfortable and unsupportive - the bed actually creaks terribly with the foundation that came with it. We placed the new bed on the 20+-year-old foundation to reduce that creaking dramatically! Still HATE the mattress - it is as though someone used this bed for years already!

I cannot complain about their furniture, but STAY AWAY from the "mattresses". I did complain to the store/saleswoman, but Tennessee laws are very strict, and we knew that no matter what, there can be no return/exchange (unless the mattress literally rips/falls apart). The response was very unsatisfactory - she actually wanted to sell us another mattress!!!

After the many thousands of dollars we have spent with Ethan Allen over the years, I will look more closely at other furniture companies for our next purchases, as we will want to redo our living room, and also a den, when we move. This is kind of a pet peeve, but we spoke to another saleswoman originally, but this saleswoman basically stole the sales from the first woman. I do not know if the other woman left before or after that. So watch this if you care.

I have been employed with the company for over three years now, and the way the management treats its employees is horrible! They lie about everything from what time are we going home, to why our hours had been cut, to blaming all of the problems that are blamed on them by blaming them on us! Ethan Allen in Maiden, NC is the largest upholstery division and everything from management down sucks!

** who is the plant manager is more worried about losing his big salary and protecting his buddies than doing his job which is why everything else there has suffered. Quality, quantity and the moral! I have seen furniture damaged and loaded on the truck. I have seen law labels screwed up on the furniture and management do absolutely nothing about it! This company has too many problems to list, but when the plant manager and all of his manager buddies are more worried about getting laid inside the plant with some female upholster rather than do his job, well everything else suffers.

The maiden division of Ethan Allen has become nothing more than a haven for sex at the workplace and drugs, all of which has happened while ** and his cohorts run the maiden division of Ethan Allen into the ground! Do not buy furniture from here nor deal with these people. They are crooked and they are running, giving respectable industries in furniture a bad name!

I purchased in Omaha, NE on January 31, 2013 a few items to decorate my living room. I was told by the salesperson/designer that I would receive all of my merchandise in approx 6-8 weeks because those were all floor models and they placed orders themselves as customers would order. I received approx. one month later a Delaney chair, which I had them upholstered, an area carpet (which all the border threads keep coming off), a cocktail wood table and extra material which I bought to have pillows made with an outside seamstress, as their prices were approx. $300 per large pillows. I was happy. I have not received a phone call from the decorator ever again and decided to pass by questioning when the rest of my order was to come in. These were two standard curtains and the rods. These alone cost over $4,000, not counting the above-mentioned prior furniture.

The designer then told me two weeks ago that I would receive a call from her and she would let me know because those curtains/panels had been discontinued and she only had the display curtain available (one). Two weeks later, which was yesterday 4/28/13, I decided to visit the store again. My designer was not in, so another sales rep helped me and told me the regional manager would call me tomorrow, as the manager in the store was out on sick leave. I explained to her on my visit yesterday that I was disappointed with the service, and since I was on week 15, I no longer wanted the curtains and rods. The regional manager returned my call to further tell me that she had to investigate this, and my response was "You could investigate all you want, but I do not want this any longer." She replied this is a special order and I said a special order is when you have something made to a specific size or color and the rods would need to be cut, so those are not made especially for my windows, and the curtains come in only one length.

She then cut me off and told me that she would call me tomorrow. I guess there is no losing with Ethan Allen, either in sales or commissions. I will call the corporate offices tomorrow and will wait for her call as she promised by noon. If I do not get this solved, I will contact the local newspapers and other cities where I will say when you buy from a high quality store as Ethan Allen and pay high prices, you expect courteous service and not managers imposing or demanding that you must purchase merchandise you don't have after 14 weeks, although it is on my credit card statement.

We purchased an entire bedroom set and were very happy (over $7,000). My wife loved the white bed cover on the show model and was told she could order it on-line. We did. There was not a color choice. White was shown in the photo and in the showroom model and that was what we expected. However, when it arrived, it was yellow, not white. Several phone calls resulted in no explanation, no satisfaction, and no assistance. The return instructions in the packing material explained I must return in 10 days along with a "Return Authorization Form" (not included) or it will not be accepted. I have to pay the postage and they keep 10% of the purchase price ($60+) as a "return handling charge". You cannot get any answers at the local store, and since it is the weekend, nowhere else. This is not the kind of customer service we would expect from what we thought was a well-respected brand name that was quite high priced.

We've had an Ethan Allen sofa, which is called a retreat sofa, for about eight weeks now. The standard cushion has two kinds of foam wrapped in a polyester fiber. At the time we purchased the sofa, there was a slight up-charge for the spring down, which we purchased. We can only speculate about the exact cause, but both of us have significant back pain after sitting on the sofa after no more than an hour. We believe it's a combination of a design flaw and cushions. The sofa is 40 inches deep, so using a throw pillow is a necessity. But that generally makes the sofa's seating area too small. The cushions themselves do not seem to provide adequate support either and often we find that the seat cushion pushes the back cushion up about three inches, leaving space between the two.

Based on our experience, we would avoid this product. We've called the local store, but so far no response. As uncomfortable as we are, we are likely going to buy a replacement (after owning the sofa for only a few months). We don't know who makes their cushions, but we will make every effort to find out if only so we don't make the same mistake again. And whoever it is, they should either change their product or strongly encourage Ethan Allen to fix this issue, if only to maintain their own reputation.

I wish I had read the reviews before ever setting foot in one of their stores. I engaged their designer services and purchased an entire living room from one of their corporate stores in Orland Park, Illinois. Their furniture and accessories were quite expensive but I didn't mind as I was under the impression quality furniture isn't cheap and Ethan Allen was an established national brand. Their furniture looks good when it's delivered. The problem is they must use extremely low quality materials, especially their fabrics. I began to notice both the chair and ottoman and sofa fabrics began to wear excessively within less than two years. The piping material around one arm of the chair as well as the seat cushion fabric has worn almost completely through. The sofa fabric is already fraying badly.

I went by the store where I purchased my furniture to see what can be done as I've never seen cheap furniture deteriorate as quickly as the Ethan Allen product I had purchased. I found it very interesting that the store representative was not surprised when I said my complaint was regarding my fabric coverings wearing out. I was a former furniture buyer for Macy's and told their store representative I'd never seen furniture have this type of deterioration unless the fabric was defective. I was then informed that there was nothing she could do as fabric was warrantied for only one year. Quality furniture that has premium pricing should last you for years.

Unfortunately, when I purchased my furniture from Ethan Allen, I got the premium pricing but the quality wasn't included. Unfortunately, when you review the other complaints and negative reviews, my story is repeated over and over. I would strongly advise anyone in the market for furniture to never step foot into an Ethan Allen store as you will be charged top dollar for extremely poor quality materials and workmanship, as well as dealing with a company who will not stand behind their merchandise and its suspect quality. Don't make the mistake I did!

My wife and I are long time customers of Ethan Allen. We have bought many products from your company and have been very happy with them up until now. We bought an Express sofa (about $2,500). It looks fine but is very uncomfortable. We contacted our sales rep at the Whippany, NJ store and were told that we could return the sofa for a store credit which was acceptable to us. We were then contacted by the store manager and told that this was not correct and that unless there is something defective with the product, then there would be no return or no credit.

I then wrote to Mr. Kathwari, the CEO, and received a nice form letter from someone in customer service that basically said that we were stuck with the product. I wrote again to corporate with no response at all. So if you buy a standard Express product and don't like it, you are stuck with it. I am reminded every day when I sit on the sofa how unhappy I am with Ethan Allen. I would never purchase another product from Ethan Allen or even enter one of their stores. Buyer beware.

I purchased a dining room table and chairs from Ethan Allen over a month ago. The furniture has still not been delivered. Every time I speak to someone from the company, it's always the same story: "There are only certain days we make deliveries." That's understandable and certainly reasonable except for the fact that in my case, those "certain days" turn-out to be 2 or maybe 3 days per month, and only on week days when most people are at work. No one at the company can be bothered to make any arrangements to deliver the furniture, except to keep giving me dates on week days (when I am at work), or another month out for a Saturday delivery. I purchased 2 bedroom suites from Haverty's and the furniture was sitting in my house 2 days later. Overall, this is very poor customer service from Ethan Allen. There is no desire to accommodate needs of their customers. I will be bypassing Ethan Allen and purchasing the remaining pieces at another furniture store nearby.

I would highly recommend not buying furniture from Ethan Allen. Unfortunately, my wife and I gave them numerous opportunities to prove themselves, only to be disappointed in some way every time. The first mistake is when we purchased a plant from them that arrived with some of the leaves torn. The second mistake is when we purchased a basket that arrived with a hole in it that resembled a cigarette burn; they offered to give us a 10% discount if we would still accept it (really)! The third mistake was purchasing a chair from them that arrived with 2 of the legs cracked. My wife and I typically try to furnish a room with furniture all from the same manufacturer, which is the reason we gave them so many opportunities.

All of the defective furniture was eventually replaced, but when a person is spending the amount of money that is required to purchase this furniture, you have the right to expect it to arrive in mint condition the first time. Please! Save yourself the trouble and headache and look elsewhere. This furniture is very poorly assembled and lacks the attention and detail you would expect from a high-end furniture store. Also, just as one of the other reviews mentioned, we will soon also have to reupholster the seat cushions for the chairs that we purchased from them.

My husband and I purchased a sectional from the Ethan Allen store in Orlando. The model they had on the floor isn't anything like the one we received. Our delivery was before the date they had promised so that wasn't the problem. The problem is the cushions. The spring down, which we paid extra for, were crushed and ill fitting. Some of the cushions have puckering along the seams. The welding is uneven and some are larger than others. After a week of calling the service dept., they finally sent a man out (on a Sunday afternoon) to take pictures and he agreed with me that it was bad. It took another two weeks before with many phone messages from us that went to voicemail before they sent the same guy back and he tried to fix the cushions. They look better than before but are not the quality a $6,500 sofa should be.

Married to a builder and moving many times, I have had 19 sofas before this one and I can tell you how disappointed I am with this sofa. All our previous sofas were so much better quality and we had such better service. Ethan Allen does not check their furniture before they ship it out. They deliver it to you in any condition and it then becomes your problem to fight it out with them. After reading all the other complaints, we realized if we want the sofa to look the way it's supposed to, we will have to hire an upholsterer to rework the cushions. As many of you have said, we will never buy from Ethan Allen again. And we hope this will enlighten someone who may be thinking that the company has quality furniture. They do not. Everything is made in China and it's shoddy junk. Don't waste your money. They will not try and help you at all. They only care about their bottom line.

In April 2012, I worked with a designer at the Ethan Allen store in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania on a complete redecoration of my living room. After many months, a truckload of furniture was delivered to me. Unfortunately, the sofa I had ordered came with two slits in the fabric, and a lamp was so damaged the delivery men did not even take it off the truck. After countless conversations with the local store and with the service personnel, I was told that the sofa would be "repaired" as is Ethan Allen's right under applicable warranties. The "repaired" sofa was delivered yesterday with two new problems (granted, the slits have been fixed). There is excess material on one end of the sofa, and the seam is split on the other.

I wish I had visited this site before spending thousands of dollars with Ethan Allen. Incidentally, the configuration of furniture developed by my designer did not actually fit in the space, so my living room looks more or less like a furniture warehouse at this point. Apparently, all of the measurements he took at my home were not considered in his final plan. My family has purchased Ethan Allen furniture for over fifty years and many of the pieces my parents bought in the 1960’s look great today. I don't know what has happened to the company, but consumers interested in attractive, undamaged, quality furniture should steer clear of Ethan Allen.

Worst Mattresses Ever! My wife and I used to love Ethan Allen. They had awesome designs that we loved. We decided to fully furnish our new house from them. Overall, we were happy with the result except for some issues that varied between annoying (minor) to outright unacceptable (major).

Minor issues: 1) The surface of the corner tables in the main living room were damaged because of the lamps that we put on them. The lamps were from Ethan Allen as well and they were equipped with some form of pads at the bottom to avoid scratching the surface. That pad actually stuck to the surface and when lifting up the lamp, the paint was pulled out from the surface! Needless to say, it was an expensive piece. It happened to both corner tables. 2) The main dresser and bedside small ones we bought for the master bedroom looked great. Except that after a while, the drawers won't open and close properly. When we contacted EA, they told us it must be because of the weather conditions of where we live (hot and humid, although the A/C is running all the time).

Major issue: The memory foam mattresses we bought (qty. 2) were the worst mattresses we ever slept on in our lives. And it wasn't only us; any guest who slept over in the guest room gave the same feedback. They are just horrible. They cause back pain and neck pain. They bulge and form valleys and mountains! Upon calling them, they advised us to give them some time to get used to them! We tried. We never got used to them - $4,000 down the drain. Do not buy mattresses from Ethan Allen.

Please read ... As a former employee of Ethan Allen interiors, I want to make the following statement. Shame on you, Ethan Allen! Shame on you for using the name of an American hero. Here is the truth about the designers and the products: The designers are or were very good, lovely, hardworking employees who desired to use their talents and passion to create beautiful rooms in your home that you would love forever. We wanted to do this for you and for us. Yes, we had pride in our work. We worked on minimum wage, long hours, micromanaged, pressured to perform, driven by project managers who were driven by Sr. Project managers who were whipped into submission but upper management. We, the designers, were lied to, more than you customers were. We were told that your refund check was in the mail. We were told to lie to you. We were told to make things up. After all, at first, we believed Ethan Allen interiors as much as you did. We believed what we were told and you believed what you were told. Please do not blame the designers.

Working for this company was like working in on a slave ship. We needed the job. This was or trade. The showrooms are beautiful and we thought we had arrived and had wonderful opportunity to use or talents and our desire to please you, the customer. We lived for that type of complements. We are designers. We created and we do this to build a client base for referrals for years to come. You need to know that when we worked so hard to sell the products of this company and there was a problem, we suffered right along with you. When a customer returned a product, we had our pay check docted (sic), our future commission lowered, and we had to sell $30,000 just to cover our minimum wage paychecks. We never saw money until we sold the minimum to keep our jobs. When a product was returned, not only did we lose a customer, but we lost our income. We did nothing to deserve this. After all, we sold our talents and design to you but we were punished for the crap that was delivered to your home.

Please understand this that we suffered right along with you and we could do nothing to help you. We are very sorry about all your bad experiences. It was depressing and very discouraging. The management of Ethan Allen treated us like the dirt on their shoe. We were treated like we had no brains, no input and demoralized, humiliated and beaten down. So please understand we, the designers, were as disappointed as you, maybe even more. We thought Ethan Allen was something to be proud of. Not so. Read what happened to us on Black Wednesday, June 18, 2008. We were kicked to the curb. We were dumped, slammed, and fired. Over 400 top designers, experienced and talented designers got fired. We knew too much. We had become discouraged. We worked so hard to make you happy. We were let go but we sued and we won. Yes, we fought back and we won, not a lot but we did have our say.

Now about the product, after working for this company for over 15 years, the quality has continued to go down. There is nothing wonderful about this company or the product. It is way overpriced and so many of my customers said they found the same thing on the internet with a better quality, less than half the price, faster delivery and better customer service. We, the designers, saw the quality that we were once proud of go downhill and we held our breath until we got the good news that the customer was happy. This was far and few between. You need to know that we, as the designers, were not allowed to follow up with you, our customer. That was the job of the customer service department. We were to just continue to sell. We were actually in the dark most of the time about your order. We had no control. We had no way of knowing and when we did find out about your sad experiences, we were powerless to help you.

My advice is please hold on to your hard-earned money. Please continue to read consumer reports and please be very careful going to the design centers or furniture stores that are designed to entice you. They are most likely full of lies, cheap products, and they are just a false front to the truth. Kind of like the Wizard of Oz. Just a little man hiding behind the big smoke screen. In closing, I want to thank you for reading this, for your understanding and I wish you all well. Get everything in writing. Make copies of everything. Think about your order a lot before placing it with anyone and continue to read about the experiences of others. Remember we are all in this together. God bless you. God bless our country.

Back in February of this year 2012, my husband and I went into the Kalamazoo Ethan Allen furniture store to purchase furniture from Jeree ** that she had recommended to us, from a previous visit to our home several months ago. We loved the look of everything she had picked out and decided to bite the bullet and order. We spent over $11K for an entire living room. Three months later when the furniture arrived, it looked beautiful but when we sat on our sectional sofa for the first time, we both found it extremely uncomfortable. When you sat down on the cushion, you could put two fists behind your back where the seat cushion sank from the back cushion leaving no support.

We tried again the next night and then decided to have Jeree come out, as we were not happy with the seat. We had paid the up charge to have spring down cushions and we didn't believe they were spring down. When she came out, we have other issues besides the sofa. Our leather recliner had a stain across the back and our crystal lamp had scratches all over the top of the lamp. Jeree sat on the sofa and agreed that there was something wrong, so she had the service man come out and look at our issues.

Two weeks later, he came out and the minute he sat down he said "This is the worst sofa I have ever sat in." He had a hard time even getting off the cushion. He also noticed when he sat down that he rolled to the side and felt like as if there were springs which were only in the center of the cushion. He then asked my husband if he had a box cutter and when Duane handed it to him, he proceeded to cut open the cushion to see if there were indeed springs. We asked if he was sure he wanted to do that and he replied, "You aren't keeping this anyway. It will go to the clearance center." So we said go ahead. He did find springs, but not on the perimeter. He took photos of the sofa, the chair and the lamp and said someone would be in touch. When Jeree called back, she said that they wanted to replace the seat cushions to see if it would be better to sit.

In the meantime, we have this beautiful looking sofa that no one could sit in and waiting for weeks to get cushions replaced. Finally one day I called Jeree and said, "You know what, if new seat cushions are not going to be any better, we want our money back." She tried several times to get me to change my mind, but I stayed firm. She said she would arrange to have the sofa picked up and that was another two weeks. They told us that we would get our refund back, 2-3 weeks after the pickup which was June 13th.

After three weeks I called and was told, "Oh no it takes about 6 weeks". I told her that we had received a letter from her stating 2-3 weeks and she said, "Well I'm going to have to change that because it is more like 6 weeks." Keep in mind that we had the furniture completely paid for 3 weeks before our scheduled delivery which was a nightmare in and of itself. They brought the wrong color recliner and my husband who is color blind didn't notice it at delivery and the delivery guys marred up our walls that had just been professionally painted two weeks ago. It was then discovered that our leather chair was on another truck, so this time we carried the wrong leather chair outside and put it on the porch and had them bring ours to just inside the front door and we moved it.

We finally got our check back this past Saturday. Regarding the lamp, they ordered a new one and it came with even more scratches so we settled on keeping the original for 25% off. We swore we would never buy anything from Ethan Allen again and then we started looking for a new sofa. We found one we loved, but now we had to find a similar pattern to the one we had because the rest of our furniture was designed to go with that sofa. Everywhere we went, the cost to buy your own fabric was taking us up to $8K for a sectional. Finally, we settled on a Henredon that was 40% off and decided to buy the fabric from Ethan Allen, but this time we went to Grand Rapids to purchase that.

I had called the Kalamazoo store and talked to Jill and asked how much per yard of our same fabric would it cost and if it was in stock and how long would it took to be shipped. She told me they had 1100 yards in stock. I said, "Good we needed 43." She said it would take 2-3 weeks for delivery. Then I said, "Good. We could go ahead and order the sofa and the cost per yard was great!" We ordered the fabric three weeks ago and yesterday, I sent an email to find out where the fabric is. He told us that the expected delivery date is August 27th! The 2-3 weeks is now 6-7 weeks. My thinking is that they are filling all outside orders and hoping that they will have to call us and say sorry we are sold out!

We are so upset with this company and with Jeree, because their customer service is sorely lacking. We never even got a thank you from her for our initial purchase and we just got one from Dan at Gorman's two days ago for an order that couldn't start until we get the fabric. Ken at Ethan Allen even had it set up to be delivered to their store and he was then going to physically take it down to Gorman's and hand deliver it! We're wishing now that we could have told Ethan Allen to come and get everything. We don't want any of it anymore.

Up until now, we had issues with the delivery. Trying to get an email response from Jeree on any question I had was like pulling teeth. Since then we get new catalogs monthly. But it's too late! We have come to the conclusion that quality and craftsmanship have gone out the window at Ethan Allen. No one ever bothered to quality check that sofa. It would have never been delivered in the first place. The Avante sofa is not comfortable. The one we sat in in the store did not have that issue, so you can't always judge a sit by what they have in the store.

I would never recommend Ethan Allen to any of my friends or family or anyone I like. Every time we went in to make a payment they would say, "Now your final payment can't be in the form of a check." And we'd say, "We know!" They are so check phobic. This has been the worst 6 months of my life and we'll be lucky to have a sofa by Christmas! Furniture should be half down at order and half down at acceptable delivery. They held our money for 6 weeks!

We would have saved ourselves lots of money, stress and aggravation. We wanted new furniture for our family room. An overly aggressive salesperson took over and before we knew it, we were spending excessive amounts of money for furniture like we had never done in 47 years of marriage! We bought a couch, a leather recliner, a chair, a bench and two leather ottomans. The recliner and the chair arrived 3 months later and that's when my heartache began (to steal a line from an old song).

I sat myself down in the chair I remembered from the showroom floor as being nice and soft and cushy, and was shocked at the firmness of the seat and back pillow! They felt like two rocks! I called the store and talked to our salesperson. She couldn't seem to explain why we had received these hard pillows, but called me back several days later with the good news that for an additional $100 (on top of spending $1,200 for the chair), we could get new cushions made! I was gobsmacked! To make a long and painful story short, which included speaking to many different people, all of whom were masters at double talk, plus waiting an additional two months, we finally received another back pillow which wasn't that much softer than the first one we got. We didn't receive the two pillows we were promised by the store manager, Diane.

I think that is their strategy - pass the customer around a lot, make them wait a long time and then give them part of what was promised, but they will be so fed up and ready to be done with Ethan Allen that they will go away. I just received delivery of the couch a few days ago. It too is much like a rock, but at 67 years old, I don't think I have the stamina to go through any more dealings with that store, the salesperson or the manager. What I do have the energy for is to write this complaint! Also, being a senior and having many friends in the senior community, I know lots of people who are in the downsizing phase of their lives. So, I will be telling my story to anyone who will listen and advising them all not to have any dealings with Ethan Allen in Watchung, NJ.

I have been married for a very long time and over the years, have purchased a lot of furniture and never ever have I been so annoyed and aggravated nor waited so long for furniture that was the exact opposite of what was shown in the showroom. Be warned, all who are reading this! Save yourselves and shop somewhere else!

Over the past several months, I placed 4 separate orders for furniture with Ethan Allen, totaling over $25,00.00 [sic]. Upon placing an order, a 30% deposit must be made and delivery normally takes 3 months, at which such time the balance must be paid in advance. The first order I received was damaged and after such red tape, they have promised an exchange, but would not issue any money back. This past Saturday, I received another order, which did not have the right pieces to a video entertainment center and the leather sofa and chair had puncture holes on them.

Needless to say, I refused the merchandise and although they said that they would refund my money, they also said that I must pay for a "restocking fee". How can they charge me a penalty for refusing damaged goods and nowhere is this stated on my sales order contract? I am completely appalled by this company's lack of ethics and proper business practices. Ethan Allen used to have such a high business rating and I cannot believe that this is the same company. I doubt they will remain in business much longer and am concerned that they will not issue me any of my money back. Please help!

3 months waiting for the Paloma Chair and ottoman with fabric, no real problem with that. Problem #1 was when the driver sat the chair down and uncovered it, I zeroed in on a big raised thread in the middle of where the head rests on the chair, front and center. It felt like a quill from a down pillow and was this big bulging thread. Problem #2 was when the ottoman was uncovered and a big white stain was on the top of the stool. It was a disgusting, white, sticky, hard substance. The 3rd problem was that the foot on the back of the chair had a quarter size piece of wood lifted and was almost knocked off. I refused the order. I called the store while the drivers were there. I took pictures and did not hear from anyone until I called the store 8 days later. I emailed the pictures to the store the day of the refused delivery.

I have managed this entire fiasco with emails, calls, following up on a credit back to my Visa, which I was told took 47 to 72 hours to process. It has been 3 days and no credit yet. I was told everything was inspected before it left the Pomona, CA site. If that was the case, those two drivers must have done something to the items, I don't think so. I'm the one that performed QA on their products and registered the complaint and kept following up. I was told 2-3 times that the customer service person overseeing the repairs would contact me but never did.

Great news though, they fixed everything and called to reschedule the delivery again. The store manager offered to be here when it arrives, yippee! They want me to accept a dirty ottoman, chipped jerry-rigged chair foot, cut the thread with scissors in the head area for only $2,000. Doesn't that sound like a deal?

I googled Ethan Allen customer complaints and this page came up. I've purchased many EA items over the years but with the current state of customer service and shoddy products in this country, they are about even with all the other companies that are screwing us. I'm calling the manager tomorrow to tell her I don't want the damaged goods and they can reorder. We’ll see how much they push back.

If you want poor service, and bad products, go to Ethan Allen. It's there, that once you order, and the designer has made you confident in the right choices, you'll wait and wait, past the promised delivery dates, to find out that they expect you to be at your home to receive bits and pieces of what you've ordered, over a period of months. You'll also find that what you've received is damaged, or not the correct furniture you ordered. We unfortunately also ordered custom window treatments, that were poorly made, wrinkled, and installed by inexperienced men, who obviously didn't know what to do, or did it incorrectly.

We've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars, only to find out we purchased from the wrong retailer that does not back up what they sell. I have called their corporate office, only to be passed back to the store manager, who is a totally incompetent boob. Do yourself a favor, don't purchase anything from them, unless you like to be irritated, frustrated, and spend hours on the phone, attempting to get the right product. And even after all the time spent, you'll still have the same crap that they delivered in the first time.

We ordered two white tufted chairs in July 2011. When the chairs were delivered late October the workmanship was shoddy and the chairs were dirty. We kept the chairs over the holidays and they were picked up to be repaired in early January with the assurance they would be repaired and cleaned to look like new. We were told it would take about 2 weeks for the work to be done. The chairs were delivered over a month later, 2/15/12, and were not repaired and were even dirtier. The rep I talked to from their facility told me she went out to inspect the chairs before they were shipped to us. Really? We did not accept them and who knows what will happen now. At this point I do not want the chairs any longer because I am afraid replacements will not be of any better quality. We will never buy from Ethan Allen again. Their furniture is very expensive and they infer good quality which is not the case.

And what they call designers or rejects from the the real designers trust me.They will not own up to mistakes even after they come to your home and see that they were wrong. Customer service is not important to them. This company is a rip off.

We spent $5,600 and they offered us a $100 gift card. We did not accept the card and will never shop with them again. And by the way, don't ever buy window treatments from them. Two of the 4 chairs had no backing in the center of the seat cushion with only the fabric supporting the weight of anyone sitting on them. It's amazing how these chairs ever made it out of the factory. A third chair is now starting to break internally as well. You can hear the staples pop when you sit on it. I spoke with our sales person about the problem and it took 7 days before I heard from anyone to investigate the problem, which is terrible customer service. We also purchased a large leather ottoman and the nail heads are falling off. I am terribly disappointed in the quality and defects of there furniture and I will never purchase from them again.

Ethan Allen called me today and stated they wanted to replace all 4 chairs even though 2 where certainly broken however, I declined their offer and have asked to speak with the supervisor of customer service since the representative I spoke with was not very nice and seemed uninterested. At this stage, I plan on getting my money back for this over priced garbage they gave us.

I will never again buy anything from Ethan Allen. Unfortunately, I did not read all these complaints prior to spending $2100 for a sofa nobody can sit on. I had seen an extremely comfortable and attractive sofa in the third avenue store in New York City. The saleslady, Sandra **, told me that the sofa I would receive would be the same as the one in the showroom. However, the sofa delivered to my apartment was nothing like the sofa I ordered. It was as hard as a rock and neither my husband nor I could sit on it and feel comfortable.

The next day I went to the store to complain, but was told that Ms. Sandra was not available and another sales person would take care of me. I was told that the sofa on the floor had been there for several years and because hundreds of people had sat on it, it had softened up. I was told that the sofa I purchased would eventually soften up also. I told the sales lady that I did not have the time to wait a few years for it to feel comfortable and I wanted my money back. To this she replied that it was custom made and there could be no refund. She refused to answer me when I told her that since I did not purchase the floor model, all sofas can be considered custom made. She said they would send someone from customer service to my apartment to see if anything could be done for me.

The man from customer service did come to my apartment but refused to admit that the cushions were unusually hard, but told me that customer service could redo the cushions with a softer filling. When I called customer service, they told me there would be a charge of several hundred dollars to redo the cushions, and would call me back in a few days to give me the exact cost. I never heard from them. What reliable store would make you pay several hundred dollars to remedy their shoddy work over and above the $2100 I had already paid for the sofa? I again called the store and my original saleslady told me that her supervisor told her not to speak to me again. When I went to the store to speak to someone, a sales person appeared with a camera, snapped my picture and told me never to appear in the store again. Believe me, I will never enter that store again.

On December 2, we ordered, paying with credit card, a D model # 451567 cherry Victor Pedestal from the Ethan Allen store in Renaissance in Ridgeland, MS. We were told 6 to 8 weeks delivery. Not happy but accepted it. In three weeks, somebody called, I think from the Birmingham, AL office, saying our pedestal was on the way and asking directions to deliver in 2 days. In two days, someone (maybe local) called and said, "It arrived with a ding in it, and we are ordering a replacement." No word for five weeks. Two weeks ago we went to the store (no apologies for delay or lack of communication) and they called somebody and said 15 were available and one would arrive within 2 weeks.

Hearing nothing in three weeks, we went to the store today and two rude and unsympathetic people, one appearing to be the manager, said, "It arrived and had a ding in it, and we are having a repairman make it like new. You will hear from us soon." Now, what are the odds that two identical items would arrive with "a ding" or is the shipping firm they hire that incompetent? How likely that they kept the original damaged one and now allegedly are trying to repair it? Maybe. We understand why we have never seen a single customer in the store when we have been there at intervals over the year it has been open! If they had said, the first time come look at the ding and see how important it is to you, and offered a price reduction, perhaps I would have agreed. Then!

The personnel are rude and uncaring and unsympathetic and the store management obviously cannot deliver on sales agreements. If I do not have a pedestal, or can go to the store to examine a properly repaired pedestal, by Monday, I want my credit card account credited with the entire price of purchase. Even this is not going to pacify my angry husband---this was my choice of a Christmas gift and it spoiled Christmas for him that it did not arrive.

I went to EA store in Paducah in August 2011 looking for fabric. The rep. Mr. ** came to my home in Sept. 2011 to consult on my needs. Upon his recommendations, we discussed the possibility of a new sofa and chair.

Additionally, I chose a fabric to reupholster my dining room chairs and he required a check for full payment which I wrote. The price was expensive and I was hesitant to proceed until Mr. ** enticed me with his idea there would be enough left-over fabric to do a "window treatment". (My window is only 75 x 62 inches). He also stated he would bring the fabric and cover the chairs himself as it was a simple task with a stapler gun. Upon his declaration of that idea, I decided to proceed. We even discussed the type of rod, which he had several choices at the store we would preview. That was the only, motivating reason I made my decision. He stated the fabric would arrive in 3 to 4 weeks. It was November and I hadn't heard anything from Mr. ** or the store.

I drove to Paducah to inquire. I was told Mr. ** only worked on Friday and Saturday. He called me about 5 days later and informed me the fabric I had ordered was discontinued and unavailable. Though disappointed, I returned to the store to preview other selections. Mr. ** returned to my home a week or so later with swatches and presumptuously tried to sell me a fabric I didn't want. I told him the fabric we had previously discussed was the one I wanted. I had seen it at the store before which was the same fabric originally ordered except a varying color. After waiting yet another month. I returned to the store where I had a conversation with "Ken" who was very nice and we even did a cursory glance at the curtain rods and I looked at sofas & chairs again. Ken said he wasn't apprised about my fabric and was sure it was on Mr. ** desk for him to address when he returned to work.

Mr. ** called a week later (early December), to advise me the fabric hadn't arrived yet. I expressed my hope it would be here before Christmas. Of course it didn't arrive and once again in January 2012, I drove back (50+ miles) to the EA store whereupon I was given excuses, etc. by Annette, store owner. She promised to "check into" this and call me back. She called the next day and said she had contacted the vendor and my fabric was "on the way". About 3 or 4 days later, Annette called again stating it would arrive at the store on Jan. 9, a week out. The very next day, someone else called and said, "Your fabric is here!" Mr. ** called and scheduled an appointment time to bring the fabric and cover the chairs on a Saturday. Though it wasn't an inconvenience, he arrived 3 hours later than he was scheduled. He began to cover the chairs when I observed he was not lining the chairs with an "undercover material" that he had told be the day I ordered it, back in September, would be necessary to preclude the original fabric from "showing through" the new one. He hesitated before stating he didn't bring any and perhaps, did I have some "old sheets" he could use. I responded I didn't have any "old" sheets, but did manage to find 3 pillow cases and offered those. We were both "put out" by this. He gave up and said he would just take the seats with him, have them covered and come back the next day (Sunday)..."on my own time" and get this finished. I had no choice but to agree. He did return and we put the chairs together. When I asked him about the remnants and left-over fabric, he told me he didn't bring them. I told him I would come by the store and pick them up, whereupon he said "No, I will mail them to you". When I asked about the window treatment, etc. He stated there was not enough material to do them. I was taken back by this and perplexed but, regrettably now, I didn't pursue the matter and left.

After pondering this dilemma, I for about the 7th or 8th time, returned to the Paducah EA where I explained this situation to Annette. She simply made excuses for Mr. Watkins and she was puzzled because he "always did such a good job and was a good decorator". She asked me what I wanted and I stated "only what I was promised", which was enough leftover fabric to do the window treatment -- just like Mr. ** promised. A few days later, Mr. ** called with Annette on the conference line. He said he was really "put out" with me and my expectations. Furthermore, he denied that he ever offered to do the window text. I must have "misunderstood" him. I strongly disagreed and reviewed the facts. The call ended when he emphatically declared he was "not about to pay for any extra fabric". I politely replied I would take the issue up with Ethan Allen, Corp. He said, "fine, I will defend myself".

I am stunned, disappointed and angry that my experience with a reputable company turned out this way. It was a very negative customer experience to the point of being unbelievable! I might add that my impatience with this prolonged, drawn-out mess, resulted in proceeding with the purchase of a sofa from another local designer store. Perhaps Mr. ** noticed this and that could have peeved him to the point of not caring about my customer expectations. It was never discussed. I would appreciate your response to this complaint and hopefully an agreeable resolution to my satisfaction. As in all business, that is all that is expected... a happy customer! Thank you.

The sofa arrived in good time and so far I'm happy with it, but the rug did not arrive until January. I was already peeved that I didn't have the rug for Christmas. When it arrived I saw only the big picture: it looked good in my room. Then a week later I was about to vacuum when I noticed that some of the threads were loose; in fact, they were not finished in the pattern at all and if I pulled them, I was afraid they'd unravel.

Then I checked the hem of the rug and found at least two places where the sewing was so crooked. It looked like the operator was drunk when it was completed. I sent photos to the store and then had to follow up again with them to find out what would happen. Right now, the rug is on the way back to the manufacturer to see if it can be "repaired". For $1200 I am extremely dissatisfied with the quality of the rug and totally unimpressed with the customer service.

They were gold; the rod was dark brown. He referred to my paperwork and confirmed that I was indeed correct.

I was told he would place an order for those, and they would take approximately 3 weeks to arrive, at which time, he would call me and switch out the ones he was putting up. After a month and not hearing from him, I called Ethan Allen. They put me in touch with the installer who claimed he had no recollection of this conversation and asked if he could call him back.

Well, 3 weeks later, he called and said that the company did not offer the tiebacks in the same color as the rod! And he offered to paint them himself.

I was shocked that they would tell such a lie. Secondly, I would never allow this man to take the tiebacks for fear of never getting them back and to pay thousands of dollars for overpriced window treatments that only to have some man paint them? I was looking at two Curio Cabinets, Ana printed out pictures for me and I went home to think about it.

I called her and asked when she had time if she could measure the inside of the shelves for me and she could call me back. After an hour 1/2, there's no phone call so I called her again and she stated she was with a customer and would call me back in 10 min. 3 hours later, still no call. I waited till the next day mid-afternoon to see if she would call and still no call. I called and spoke with the manager which, to be honest, she made excuses for the sales person. All Ana could have done was give the information to the girl that was at the front desk (the greeter) and have her call me.

I guess Ethan Allen must me doing very well if they can afford to lose customers. The manager also doesn't know how to keep a customer, I suggested that they should have given me a discount and not give Ana her full commission since she did not follow up with me. I love the piece that I want but I think I just might go somewhere else. It seems that they either don't stand behind their product or don't care about customers.

About a month ago, I went into that store and half of the store was empty. I thought they were moving or going out of business. Not one sales person approached me and I walked the whole store. The manager should have posted a note or someone should have said they were redoing the store and putting new furniture out. I guess that should have given me a hint about the customer service they provide. Many of my neighbors thought the same thing that they were closing.

I called the store 10 days ago and nobody returned my call. I was told that it was not under warranty and the company would not do anything about it. Later the staff (Mary **) stated that I could take the mirror to the store and they would look at it and get in touch with the corporate office and they would return my call with a decision. Once again, they never called me back.

When I called today, I spoke with the manager Annie and she said they would not fix the mirror or do anything about this. I can not believe that a company would not stand behind their product. Why would a brass mirror simply fall apart from the frame after hanging on the wall for five years? It is a heavy mirror but should be engineered to withstand holding together. I told Annie that I would not ever buy any other products from Ethan Allen. She simply stated, "I am sorry you feel this way about it."

I will tell others through word of mouth that this is not a company that stands behind its products and they quite frankly were rude and disrespectful to me. When going to the store with the mirror, they told me they need not hear about my story, they've heard it before.

How different they were when I went to order two complete rooms full of furniture? They were so sweet and accommodating. They gave me no suggestions how to repair the mirror or further resolve the problem. We spent over $20,000 with our orders and now this is how the company responds. I have antique furniture and mirrors that are 75 years old that are holding up better than Ethan Allen's product. I am bitterly disappointed.

I recently purchased a sofa from Ethan Allen's - Tysons Corner Design Center at 8520 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, Virginia 22182. The salesman who sold me the sofa mistakenly informed me that the cushions of the floor model were representative of the sofa I was purchasing, and did not inform me that what I was buying was different from the floor model, which he represented to me as identical.

When the sofa was delivered, I was surprised that it was different, and not the same, as the sofa that the salesman had sold me. In good faith, and pursuant to Ethan Allen's sales receipt and Terms and Conditions of Sale, a copies of which are attached, I have contacted Ethan Allen numerous times and attempted to return the sofa. Unfortunately, the Ethan Allen personnel I have contacted have refused to acknowledge that I contacted them, not been cooperative, and in the case of the District Manager, made bizarre statements about the attached Terms and Conditions of Sale document.

On or about November 3, 2010, I purchased a sofa from Ethan Allen salesman, Eric **. The sofa was delivered to my house on December 17, 2010.

On December 18, 2010, approximately 24-hours after the sofas delivery, I placed a telephone call to Salesman ** and explained that the cushions of the sofa delivered to my house were different from the floor model that he had shown me, and were not the same as the floor model, which he represented to me as being identical. I explained that the cushions are much too large, and different from the ones I tested and sat on in the showroom. That model had softer cushions. I went on to say that the manufacturer stuffed the cushions with so much filling that the cushions were much thicker and fatter than the ones in your showroom. The cushions were so much thicker that when I sit on the sofa it made me feel as though I am being pushed off the sofa by the too-large cushions. I stated that the cushions were not a good match for this size of the sofa because they take up and absorb so much of the available sitting space on the sofa as to not leave enough room for people to sit on the sofa.

I explained to Salesman ** that because I had agreed to purchase the sofa in good faith, but had been sold a sofa that had been misrepresented as being the same as the showroom model, and was unacceptable, I was returning the sofa to Ethan Allen pursuant to the sales receipt and Terms and Conditions of Sale document. I stated to Salesman ** that I wanted Ethan Allen to pick up the sofa and give me a full refund without penalty because of the misrepresentation.

Salesman ** explained to me that a return would be impossible at that time. Salesman ** asked me to unzip the cushions, press all the air out of them and again check their performance. I was also told that the cushions would probably have to break in over time. If this didn't work, Salesman ** explained that the defect with the sofa might be a warranty issue and that an Ethan Allen representative would have to visit my home, inspect the sofa, and the Ethan Allen would subsequently make a decision as to correct or replace to sofa or cushions. In any event, a return would not be possible until Ethan Allen made a ruling as to what the problem with the sofa was.

I visited my local lumber yard, purchased a piece of plywood, wrapped the cushions and covered them with the plywood and parked my two-ton automobile on the cushions for several days. This action did not break in the cushions. Subsequent to my telephone conversation with Salesman **, Ethan Allen Customer Service Representative Chris **, at telephone number **, stated in a message to me: "The -6 cores should not be performing like this. I will send my Upholstery Technician to inspect. Expect a call from Eric (Technician) in the next 48 hrs. to schedule service."

A representative of Ethan Allen subsequently visited my house, inspected the defective sofa, took photographs of the sofa, and stated to me that someone from Ethan Allen would contact me in the next week-or-so.

Having not received the promised call from Ethan Allen, I again contacted Messrs. ** and **. Both stated there was nothing wrong with the sofa, and that Ethan Allen had no obligation to take any further action. I explained that pursuant to the Terms and Conditions of Sale document, I still wanted to return the sofa refund, but I was told that since the three-day return period had expired and my only alternative was to purchase softer, replacement cushions.

Since I need a sofa and wanted very much to avoid litigation, I continued to try to work with Ethan Allen. I contacted Salesman ** about how to go about obtaining replacement cushions. Again, having not received any response I sent another message to Salesman **. This is his response to my question if he had received my message: @I didn't. I'm sorry; I'll get right on that today and will be in touch with what service says.''

After some time, Salesman ** contacted me and stated that replacements for the defective cushions would cost me approximately $250. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

Subsequent to my communication with Salesman **, I met with Ethan Allens Tysons Corner Design Center Manager Brenda ** who, like other Ethan Allen representatives, was dismissive of my concerns and refused to accept my request for refund stating that the return period had expired. Ms. ** dismissed the fact that I had tried to return the sofa within the period allowed by the Terms and Conditions of Sale document, and she pressured me into paying $262.50, for new replacement cushions.

After receiving the new cushions some time later, I discovered they still did not perform as the floor model cushions did at the Tysons Corner Design Center. I again wrapped the cushions, covered them with the plywood, and parked my two-ton automobile on the cushions for several days. This action did not break in the cushions. The new cushions I was pressured and forced to purchase do not have an acceptable appearance and do not look like my original cushions. The new cushions I purchased are wrinkled, crumpled, and ugly. The new cushions I was pressured and forced to purchase also did not come with material for the throw pillows that are standard with the sofa. Although I paid for them, I suspect Ethan Allen wants additional money from me.

In an attempt to confirm that the Ethan Allen representatives at the Tysons Corner Design Center had not been honest with me and had, and continued to, deceive me, I visited Ethan Allen Salesperson Lauren **, Ethan Allen, 2900 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Virginia, on or about February 9, 2011, a copy of SRs business card is attached. SR stated to me that if wanted to purchase the same sofa I purchased the Tysons Corner Design Center, I should select the type of cushion I preferred by sitting on the floor model there at the Arlington store. SR stated that I should be careful because the cushions on the floor model were not the same as the cushions that I would receive because the floor model was similar to a rental car it had been sat on so many times by so many people over such a long time that the cushions were only a rough approximation of the sofa I would be purchasing.

Because of Ethan Allens bad faith and dishonest treatment of me, I contacted Ethan Allens corporate headquarters in Danbury, Connecticut. I spoke with Eddie ** and his supervisor at telephone number **. Mr. ** initially returned my telephone calls, but stopped returning my calls after my second or third call. Mr. ** was not helpful.

Subsequent to my contact with Mr. ** and his supervisor, I received a call from Ethan Allen District Manager Cheryl ** at telephone number **. I explained all the issues with the defective sofa that I had purchased how I had tried to return it and how I had been stonewalled and pressured into purchasing new cushions at my expense, etc. As with other Ethan Allen representatives, District Manager ** was uncooperative. With a new twist of bad faith and dishonesty, District Manager ** insisted that I had not paid for the replacements for the defective cushions and that Ethan Allen had paid for them! District Manager ** continued with her dishonesty and stated to me that the paperwork provided to me at the time of purchase stated that Ethan Allen furniture requires a break-in period! Although Ethan Allen has still not provided me with a receipt for the replacement cushions I paid for, a copy of my credit card statement is attached indicating that Ethan Allen charged me $262.50, on March 24, 2011. Additionally, the attached Terms and Conditions of Sale document stating nothing about break-in periods.

A search I conducted of the World Wide Web revealed dozens of internet complaints about Ethan Allens lack of candor when retailing furniture to the public. I am seeking a full refund of the purchase price of the sofa and the purchase price of the cushions. I am also requesting Ethan Allen visit my house and remove the sofa and cushions.

I am 75 and unable to move the furniture on my own. All the store will do is apologize, which does not help us. The saleslady claims now that she does not remember.

We would not have made this purchase without a means to remove the old furniture. Basically, the saleslady lied in order to make a sale.

I have recently been looking at purchasing a nassau 37" ottoman in aroya spice from Ethan Allen. It's a beautiful piece. It is on sale (per ethanallen.com) until Sept. 5 at a starting price of $449 plus cost of fabric. I found out the fabric I like is $86 dollars per yard, which I think is ridiculously overpriced, along with the cost of labor to upholster the ottoman. It was going to total the final price to over $800. So, I thought no thanks! Not to mention, there are these horror stories from unsatisfied clients. I definitely will not be making any purchases from this company.

They told me I still had to pay in full. They would correct the problem and come out with correct pads. 4weeks later no news from Susan at the design center. I had to call her and she gave me some story and that now it would take another 5-6 weeks. For chair pads!

The table was the wrong color so instead of providing me with options and standing behind their product, I was told I would have to live with it. I'm also waiting for an appointment for a finisher to fix some scratches on the chairs and tables. I have spent over 50000 dollars with this designer but would not use her again or Ethan Allen.

This company just makes my blood boil. I bought a bed for my 4 year old daughter that is criminally unsafe. Imagine raised bed 1 foot above ground, box spring, 9 inches and mattress, 11 inches. She can't even climb in. And Ethan Allen will not take the whole set back, only the bed but Ethan Allen delivered the mattress to our home before the bed. After we made a complaint, they suggested a lower profile box spring which will take another 6 weeks to arrive and when I asked the salesperson if she expected my daughter to sleep on the floor after buying a $3000 bed, she told us that would be our decision.

We ordered the set in December and only accepted the mattress before the bed because it would take another 8 weeks for the bed and we were informed by the company that it was advisable to take the mattress and box spring first. The bed is a four poster canopy bed (obviously appealing more to a little girl than say a 30-year old man) but it is so high off the ground when you add in the normal box spring and mattress that we find it unsafe in the circumstances. We specifically told the salesperson that the bed was for a child and that is what we find upsetting that the company would sell us a product so obviously inappropriate and unsafe. Do not, I repeat, do not deal with this company. We feel so violated.

I had silhouettes hung 2007 in my great room with insufficient brackets, there should have been 5. Only 3 were installed. Everything was shipped to Nevada from New York and installed through Hunter Douglas. So on Monday, Nov 16th 2010, the whole rod and curtain come tumbling down and almost hit me on my head. I could not believe this. This began my nightmare of trying to get Ethan Allen to get someone to my home. I called Utah, Colorado, New York, Maryland and Arizona, everyone just kept passing the buck, and including trying to reach Hunter Douglas to find out who installed (the man's name and number). No one seemed to know.

Finally, I got someone in Arizona and as of today still have no one to come out and fix. I then took it upon myself to thumb through the yellow pages and lo and behold found this great man. He came today and fixed the bracket as well as installed a few others to make sure this would not happen again. Now I am trying to be reimbursed the money I just laid out. I am dealing with Conn., the main headquarters. I hope to have an answer tomorrow . The bottom line is they need some kind of repair center set up here. They closed the store in New York where I initially made my purchases. I spent $30-$40,000. I also had bought another shade in New York for my bedroom; it kept breaking. I kept paying for repair. Finally I gave up because the people said it was not their problem, made in New York. New York said to me what could they do, I was in Nevada. I would like to get rid of it and get shutters. I never asked for money for that.

My wife and I have been long-standing Ethan Allen customers, having made numerous purchases over the years from their stores in Northridge, Thousand Oaks, and Ventura, California. During the past decade, we have made many purchases from other stores other than our local Ventura store because the Ventura store has consistently been disorganized and poorly managed. My wife and I greatly regret making our most recent $25,000 purchase through the Ventura store.

My wife and I have been very frustrated and disappointed with the lack of professionalism shown by their staff, particularly Janet ** and Breanne **. When there have been problems with our purchase, they have not followed through to ensure that the challenges are resolved and that we are satisfied. When we initially made our purchase on July 16, 2010, we were promised that the window treatments and rug would be delivered within 4 weeks to 6 weeks. We were also asked to pay for one half of the purchase up front and the balance upon our receipt of our entire purchase. After almost 10 weeks, we have received only about $4500 worth of our initial $25,000 purchase, and neither Janet nor Breanne have been able to provide us with an estimated date for the delivery for the rest of our purchase.

We have repeatedly been told that the material for the curtains and the rug are back ordered. After receiving a portion of the order, we were given the option of picking other materials for the rest of our order because their employees did not know when or if we would receive the items. We would never have placed the order if we had been told they might not be able to provide us with the materials, particularly newer materials. It is mystifying that a national corporation, such as Ethan Allen, has been out-of-stock on standard materials for three months. It has been very upsetting to have Ethan Allen employees calling us to pay the balance on the three curtains we have received, particularly when we were told that we would pay the balance when all of the items were delivered.

I am very uncomfortable giving Ethan Allen more money, when so many businesses (particularly in this industry) are going out of business and when their employees cannot confirm that the material is even available. Again, I paid about $12,500 on July 16, 2010, and 10 weeks later, I have only received about $4500 of merchandise, some of which was damaged. I do not think it is reasonable nor fair to expect me to pay another $2300 when I have no idea when or if the rest of my order will be delivered. Further, my wife and I are both frustrated that their employees can find time to call us to request payment, but can never find the time to call us to update us on the delivery of our order.

We were also really disappointed with the process leading up to our purchase. We scheduled an appointment for Breanne to come to our home and to go over fabric samples. I took time off of work from my medical practice, only to have Breanne cancel the appointment at the last minute. When she did come to our home one or two weeks later, she certainly created the impression that she postponed her appointment because we were the only meeting for the previous Friday, but on the day she rescheduled, she had booked two other appointments in Santa Barbara and had made arrangements for a date after she met with my wife and I. Even more disconcerting was the long delays in getting Breanne to follow-up on our order, to the point that I contacted our regional manager, Peter **, because of imminent price increases.

Breanne had told us that the prices would go up by about 10 percent at the beginning of July 2010. There were further delays of weeks for Breanne to provide us with the contracts and measurement information. When we went to review the fabrics and finalize our purchase, Breanne had mistakenly selected the wrong fabric for our master bathroom, and my 9-year-old son and I both immediately noticed the mistake. Further, as we were finalizing our purchase and the store was about to close, we realized that after about four or five weeks of discussing our order with Breanne, she had never asked us about our preferences for curtain rods, valances, trim, and hardware. Even though we had been to the Ventura store several times, she never showed us the displays for these essential elements of our purchase. Next, Breanne and Janet miscalculated our order so that the contracts had to be revised. The series of errors and mistakes went from frustrating to comical to disturbing.

Twice during the past year we have been promised the option of no-interest financing for 6 to 12 months, only to be told that we did not qualify for financing, despite our 780-790 FICO scores and my good income. We are very frustrated about our interactions with Ethan Allen, particularly the Ventura store. If we cannot get these matters resolved within the next week, we will be forced to dispute the entire purchase with our American Express credit card.

During the past four months, I have spent an inordinate amount of time attempting to complete a $26,000 purchase through Ethan Allen. Obviously, Ethan Allen does not value my business, and clearly they have not regard for my time or treating me with basic human decency. During an era in which Thomasville is closing stores, I am surprised at Ethan Allen’s myopic business strategies. The fact that Ethan Allen has not delivered my order in accordance with our contract, and the fact that Ethan Allen has repeatedly ignored my requests to resolve this matter raise serious concerns about Ethan Allen’s business ethics and lead me to wonder if Ethan Allen is going to make a fraudulent money grab before going out of business.

I paid Ethan Allen over $13,000 back in early July 2010, and after four months, Ethan Allen has only delivered about 10 percent to 20 percent of my purchase. In good faith, I paid Ethan Allen the balance on the items I received. Due to the lack of response from any management figure at Ethan Allen, whether the local manager, Janet **, the regional manager Peter **, or the corporate office, Ethan Allen has fully neglected this problem to the point that I am considering filing a complaint with the Ventura County and Santa Barbara County District Attorneys. I have disputed the charges through American Express.

Given their total disregard for me as a customer, if Ethan Allen cannot deliver my entire purchase along with a discount for the time I have had to waste on rectifying this matter, I think we may need to cancel the entire order. I am not interested in purchasing custom draperies in green to match a $10,000 custom area rug, only to have the area rug never delivered. Additionally, my Ethan Allen Avenue Collection bed frame is falling apart due to poor workmanship. I would like Ethan Allen to repair this problem at no charge to me.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this matter. I look forward to your immediate reply.

I purchased a sofa and a chair waited 8 weeks, then it came the sofa was beautiful the chair had to go back it was cut all the way around with a box cutter and it was dirty so they put it back on the truck. And then they contacted me it would take another 6 weeks, after 2 weeks when I kept calling to find out how much longer I would have to wait they said they can't give me the same material because the dye lot didn’t match. I was never shown the dye lot I should have made that decision not the factory, how different could it be.

So I went into the store again and it’s not easy going to the store, it’s in garden city and I'm in Brooklyn and you could only go when your sales girl is there, no one can fill in for one another. So if that particular girl ever won the lottery and left, the customer would be in trouble, I worked on Wall Street as a trader and if one of us was out someone else filled in.

I had no other option but to pick another material I pick the best I could, now it was delivered it doesn't look good near the sofa and other 2 chairs I bought from them it’s too busy 3 different materials in one room. I told them it was just delivered and it doesn't look good and I want the original material

I picked whether it matches totally or not anything would look better than this. They told me I can't, why not? They shouldn't have made that decision were I was forced to settle for a fabric that wasn't my 1st choice. I need the same print I originally picked for my sofa it wasn’t my fault the idiot that delivered it cut the whole chair taking it out of the paper.

They have the material it’s available, it’s the second fabric that’s not available anymore. I asked them take back the sofa and match it to the chair but the sofa and chair have to match. I have 3 different fabrics in the room, too much I wanted the sofa and chair to match and the other 2 chairs are fine. Now they’re saying they can’t do anything for me, I chose the fabric I had no choice they didn’t want to give me my fabric that I originally picked with the excuse it didn’t match the dye lot, ridiculous how much off could it be, I had to settle for a totally different fabric that I really didn’t want. The chair material is discontinued.

I spent over 6,000.00 dollars now they tell me since I’m unhappy they can sell me the material at cost for the chair and reupholster it, with the original fabric I picked. Why should I have to pay what I originally ordered? Why did they put me through picking new material why didn’t they send me the swatch of the new dye lot to begin with, instead of insisting I have to pick a new material? Why should I spend more money, I bought 2 chairs, sofa and loveseat, from them. To make insult to injury I said should be compensated for this, they said o we will give you.

A gift check for $125.00 they didn’t send me a check they gave me an in store credit, big deal they get their money back anyhow. I only want my chair done over in the original fabric I picked for no extra charge. This whole mess wasn’t my fault, I didn’t change my mind, they wouldn’t listen to me, and send me a swatch of the new dye lot and make me make the decision now they are and at my cost. And left the customer would be trouble. I was a trader and when one of us was out life didn’t.

We have been very disappointed with the customer service we have received over the past six months working with Ethan Allen. Although we like the design itself, the execution has been incredibly poor.

    1) Limited communication regarding the status of our order between ordering and first delivery. We sent numerous emails to the Sales Associate asking for updates or about repairing items (see below) with zero or delayed responses.

    2) We received a crooked $800 crystal lamp and reported that to the Sales Associate. (a) She said she needed to take pictures of it, so we worked to set up an appointment for her to come to the house. After much back and forth to find a convenient date, we made an appointment and I hurried home from the office at lunch. However, the Associate was late and I had to get back to the office for a meeting. In trying to reschedule, I just asked if I could take the picture myself, which was now an acceptable alternative for the Associate. I was astounded that this wasn’t suggested initially to save time and unnecessary efforts. (b) It took 3 months for anyone to contact me about receiving a replacement and when it was finally delivered 4 months later, it too was defective.

    3) We were not notified that the fabric for our curtains was discontinued, and only found out by calling the store for an installation update 3 months later. The fabric had been discontinued several weeks prior and our representative had been asked to call us to get a new fabric chosen a long time ago. This was certainly a shock to us having heard nothing about it, while expecting that the curtains were to be installed later that week!

    4) Curtain installation, though quick, was riddled with problems which the installer tried to hide: (a) Chipped chair; chipped side table; chipped media cabinet; scuffed walls. (b) We did not hear from anyone about repairs for several weeks after complaining. Our project cost approximately $25,000 and I am shocked at the amount of problems that we encountered with practically zero effort made to retain us as an ongoing customer.

I ordered a leather sofa from Ethan Allen in Aug. 2010. Before ordering the sofa, I carefully measured the front doorway and elevator to be sure it would fit. I was told by Ron that they could send someone to measure to be sure it would fit and I said that would be fine. He asked the size of the front door and I told him 36 inches. He replied that that was a standard door and the sofa I wanted was 35 inches wide. It shouldn't be a problem but if there was, the delivery men could remove the legs.

The sofa arrived Sept. 25. The delivery men couldn't get it in the elevator and, after carrying up two flights of stairs, couldn't get it in my front door. They turned it around a few times and managed to get half of the sofa in. They pulled it back out and told me they couldn't fit it in. I told them to remove the legs. They said they didn't do that, I needed special service.

I told them to try again and I was told they had other deliveries and needed to get to Connecticut! They took the sofa back. I called Ethan Allen and apprised them of the problem. They informed me that the sofa could be "deconstructed and reconstructed" in my apartment. That would cost me $350! This was customer service.

I called the design consultant, Ron. He told me that they did this all the time and why was I getting so upset. The sofa wasn't due to be delivered until Nov. so I was ahead of schedule. I called customer service again and was told I needed to speak to "Lisa" but she wouldn't be in until Monday Sept. 27. I left a voice message and my number. I called Lisa on Sept. 27 and she still wasn't in. I'm still waiting for Lisa to call me. I shouldn't have to pay the additional charge for Ethan Allen's errors.

I place an order for 2 Metropolitan chairs on March 29, 2010. The sales associate told me the chairs took 4 months to manufacture. She told me that legally, I was not obligated to purchase the furniture if the chairs were not delivered by July 18, 2010. Needless to say, the chairs have not arrived. I called the store two days ago to find out what happened to them. The phone person told me that they had lost my phone number and couldn't call me for delivery. The chairs were in the warehouse. She asked me my phone numbers, I gave her my work and cell phone numbers and haven't heard from her. I was lead to believe a phone call would be the same day.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. I agonized a long time over the chairs before I ordered them. I'm not an impulsive buyer, which is why I've lived with hand-me-downs in my living room for 10 years. But now, I'm kinda **. I hope the chairs are being made in North Carolina by some hard working person and not in some cheap factory in China. I've read other reports of poor quality craftsmanship and fabric pulls on some of the delayed items that customers have ordered. I'm seriously considering canceling my order and going to Crate and Barrel. I need chairs but I don't need to be taken for a ride.

I had placed an order for a sofa and chairs on May 1st, 2010 and I was very clearly told that the delivery would occur in a maximum time period of 12 weeks or most probably sooner. Half of my order, chairs and pillows, were delivered within this timeframe, however 18 weeks later, I still do not have my Marris Sofa and feel like I have been held hostage as I cannot cancel my order and buy it elsewhere since the chairs are already delivered. I received an update on July 11 stating that there is a production delay and I should expect my delivery by mid August.I followed up with a phone call to the manager, Denise ****, on August 3 and after giving me a list of excuses and having the audacity of saying "We have at least delivered the chairs within the 12 week period”, she sent an apologetic email offering me a 10% discount and promising a call from the delivery people latest by September 7.

I did not receive any intimation from them and I sent an email on the 7th and again, today, with no courtesy of a response. This has ruined our whole experience of buying furniture and honestly I had the slightest idea that it would take 18 weeks to deliver the furniture. I would have bought it elsewhere. When I was promised 12 weeks, it should have factored in various possible reasons for delay but having to wait an additional 6 weeks for some fabric delay or something is absolutely unacceptable and a breach of contract. I would appreciate any help possible and would expect a reputable organization like Ethan Allen to be more accountable for their actions.

We purchased 2 leather sofas from Ethan Allen in Chandler. After less than 1 month, we noticed that the leather sags loosely over the cushions so that after a person sits on the sofa, the leather puddles and ripples around the impression of where they once sat. After less than 2 months of owning the sofas, the cushions have permanently formed wrinkles in the leather. We contacted our design consultant Jill about the problem and she explained that the way their leather performs. If we wanted to avoid the sagging and puddling, we should have gone with a vinyl product. Ethan Allen changed their leather in the last 10 to 15 years. Their former leathers did not perform this way. We have this problem even with the most firm cushions available and a mid grade leather.

We brought some of the cushions to the showroom to compare and they stated that we received the newer style of the sofa, which was not even on display. The "newer" style apparently has a very soft cushion, but this was not the sofa style we tried out and purchased. No one at any time mentioned that the style was changing. I do not and have never liked a soft cushion, which is why I paid extra for an even firmer cushion. They continue to charge to my credit card multiple charges without receiving a bill or statement. They must have my number on file. I have asked twice for a copy of the invoices.

In 2003, we purchased $23,000 in Ethan Allen furniture in Redding, California. We bought a solid-maple collection that is now discontinued. We moved to Oregon a year later and noticed that the sateen finish and the wood scratched and dented very easily. Also, the wood would stain from various items that were placed on the wood. We knew we had a warranty so we called the E.A. store in Springfield, Oregon, and they sent someone to "fix" the damage to the furniture. It did not look better and we have to literally baby the furniture. It easily scratches, stains and dents. We paid so much for the furniture and are so disappointed in the lack of quality. We originally paid so much for the furniture thinking it would be a one-time purchase, but we were wrong. We are eventually going to have to purchase new furniture.

I do have another complaint and it is about the customer service at the store in Springfield, Oregon. We had a catalog that was recent with the most recent prices, and we wanted to buy an armoire. We went to the store to purchase it and noticed it was $300 more than the catalog price. The sales clerk said that the prices had just been raised but we insisted that we would pay the catalog price. They would not honor the price and they do not offer discounts or deals. Each store is different with sales, deals and customer service, and the store in Redding, CA gave us two sales when we purchased our furniture but the Springfield store did not.

Unfortunately, 2 years later, the desk's paint finish is coming off, the Sofa bed's cushions are deformed and the mattress is unsuitable to sleep in. I spoke to Dana and Rey from other Ethan Allen stores because the one I went to went out of business for obvious reasons. The quality is terrible, and the prices are too much for Ikea-like furniture.

Dana tried telling me no one has ever complained yet there are hundreds of complaints on one single website. They try to make you think your product is damaged from natural causes, but its low-quality products that damage themselves. Never buy from here. They told me they can’t have another service tech look at the defects and basically told me, "whoops, that’s not my problem". They provide terrible customer service. I purchased a bedroom set from Ethan Allen. The designer, Thressa, measured to make sure that the furniture would fit in the room, etc. Upon delivery, the dresser was unable to fit up the stairs and the bed and night stands were tightly shoved between the walls. We had told Thressa that a previous drawing with bookcases were too large, as there would not be enough space between the bed and bookcases and we wanted something smaller. Well, the night stands that were ordered were as large as the bookcases; she obviously didn't listen to our needs. Getting back to the dresser that didn't fit, the dresser was sent back to the store and now, we have asked that the whole bedroom set needs to be returned since the dresser was unable to make it up the stairs.

Ethan Allen refused to take the pieces back until we chose a new bedroom suite from them. We chose the suite we wanted and there is not another set that would work. Thressa obviously is at fault for her lack of measuring and we should not be forced to buy another set from them. We have been treated very rudely and in an unprofessional way especially after years of our support!

I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Ethan Allen Headquarters. I will never buy another piece of furniture from this company!

When I received it, I immediately felt the scale of the sofa was out of proportion to the other furniture in the room. I called the design consultant the same day it was received and she came to my home the following day to look at it. She agreed with me that it appeared too large, but that it probably was because of two cushions rather than three.

In addition, there were tears at three corners where the skirt is attached to the sofa. Also, the cushions are uneven. The skirt on the sofa is also uneven. I told her I wanted the sofa replaced. She took photos and left my home telling me not to worry, she was going to talk with their manager. She also informed me that there would be a restocking fee. I paid $2000 for the sofa and it should be in better condition than it is. I was told that I should hear from EA no later than Wednesday.

I received a phone call telling me there was nothing they could do about it because it was a special order item and that they would send someone out to repair the sofa. Priscilla, the person who contacted me, was rude. I requested a meeting with the design manager and my design consultant and they refused to honor that request. I want the sofa replaced. However, Ethan Allen is also charging another $687.70 for pick up charges which we feel is unreasonable. Furthermore, they were picking up two damaged items at the same time. There were no special arrangements for pick up of returned items made and no additional costs incurred by Ethan Allen. This arrangement was made for their convenience. According to their website, delivery is based on distance not on the price of merchandise being delivered. I placed an order for over $18,000 worth of furniture from EA in February with a promise of delivery within 6-8 weeks at the time I agreed to purchase. Once the salesperson had run my credit card and I signed the order, she told me it would actually be more like 8-10 weeks for delivery. The first items arrived on time, but everything had a slight defect (loose handles, chips, etc.). After another 4 weeks, several more pieces arrived, this time without damage, but the sectional wasn't the deeper seating depth I was promised. I got a call over 3 weeks ago that my custom pillows were ready and would be delivered.

A customer service rep called Friday to say that they weren't aware that I wanted them since I hadn't received the sofas, despite the fact that I gave delivery instructions for them. They still haven't arrived though a truck came this morning. My final pieces, the most important ones, took close to 19 weeks to arrive. I phoned weekly for the last 3 weeks of waiting time and was told that they were in the warehouse "waiting to be unloaded.” Again, there were defects (smashed corners on the sofa, holes, and marks on upholstery).

What's worse, the fabric was a different quality than the swatch in the store, and the sofas had skirts on them, which I specifically didn't want, and I'm fairly certain that I didn't get the cushion upgrades I paid for. I'm now waiting to hear whether I can send the sofas back for correction, and how long that process will take. In the meantime, I'll still have no furniture to sit on in my living room, and I'm hosting a charity event in 3 weeks. There's no way I will order from EA again!!

It broke again on 6/18/2010 and I called Ethan Allen. I was told that Ashton would call me back on Monday.

I had to call her back and she said that she would put the order in right away for someone to come out and assess the damage. No one called, so I called her again and she gave me Trish's number to call. Trish had just received the order on Wednesday and said I would hear from someone within 48 hours, which is also what Ashton had told me on Monday. I called Trish again on Thursday and she said that even when they came out that if they had to order parts, it would take longer. Keep in mind that this is the only bed that I own other than a crib and a futon.

I finally gave up and had someone else fix my bed with wood screws. The screws that were originally put in the bed were not long enough. I will never shop at Ethan Allen again and have also put a complaint into the Better Business Bureau. I feel that I should be compensated for this inconvenience. By the way, I had already paid for the bed in full when it took months to receive it. It was just an inconvenience and an insult that you have such poor customer service. No one that knows me will ever shop in your store again. I have another friend that is also not happy with her purchase of a bed and dresser and hers didn’t even break.

I purchased $17,000 worth of furniture and curtains for my master bedroom and sitting room. When the first shipment was delivered, the bottom part of my media cabinet was damaged and returned. The delivery people took the top part back, so I wouldn't need to store it in the meantime. I was charged for it immediately, though, even though it was not in my possession. When the bottom piece was finally delivered, 3 months later, the bottom piece could not be found. It took a number of phone calls to relocate the top part. Every time I called the Virginia store, I was treated by the receptionist with hostility. The same thing happened with an end table. It could not be found, and the receptionist was always rude to me.

My curtains arrived months later than expected. My salesperson said they had been in on time, but he forgot to call me. His mother had died, and he couldn't focus. I felt sorry for his mother's death, but someone should have called me in his absence. When I went to pick up the curtains, the same woman was incredibly rude to me. She should be fired. The worst was that I went to a warehouse sale six days after my first shipment arrived. All of my furniture was available for 50-75 percent off retail. I was shocked! The salesperson (who happened to be working the warehouse sale) never told me they would be on sale.

I've just been disappointed in general with my experience. My salesperson is catty and talks about his other customers in a way that is not appropriate. The receptionist has been rude to me repeatedly as previously mentioned. I purchased a six bedroom home and need a lot of furniture. I will not go back to Ethan Allen. After a few discussions with Ethan **, they suggested that they would reorder the furniture with the correct nail-head trim but without the reclining feature on the sofa because we are seniors and we would likely have difficulty operating the reclining feature.

At this point, we were out $3,600 deposit and though we were buying this furniture mainly to have the recliners, we had to make a decision and we unfortunately agreed to accept the offer. We accepted delivery of the new chairs and we are very unhappy with them. We find it impossible to have any level of comfort sitting on them. In October of 2009 we met with an Ethan Allen designer in their Agoura Hills store in Califonia and designed our new great room. We ordered over $13,000 of furniture and were given dates in December for arrival. We had family coming for the holidays and needed the furniture by Christmas. When they took our money they said "no problem".Well it's April 22nd, and I still don't have 1 couch and 2 chairs that were supposed to be here in December!

The chairs and couch arrived in January at different times and have been sent back twice due to a broken leg on the couch when it was delivered, and scratches and dents in the 2 chairs. They tried to glue them and fix them, but it was horrible looking so there was no way I was keeping $4,500 in banged up, broken furniture. This is on top of the sectional that finally arrived at the end of January and an accent table that was broken and re-ordered and arrived in February. So, the store manager said "keep the broken and scratched furniture till your new ones come in", and because we had no furniture in the room, I reluctantly said OK.

On January 20th, I was assured by the Warranty Dept. that new frames were ordered for all 3 pieces and they would call me when they came in. Three months went by and I finally called and after no returned calls and my persistence, I was told they were ordered incorrectly and would be reordered that day. That was April 20th! Through this whole ordeal, I have never gotten calls back from anyone in any department when I was promised a return call. The store where I bought the furniture said that after it was re-ordered by warranty, they never get involved again and have no idea what happens to the customers they so quickly grab a credit card from. That's the system, like it or not.

My whole space was designed around these pieces, and now all I want is for them to pick up this poor quality furniture, give me a refund for the goods they have never delivered, and leave me alone. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my 50+ years on this planet. Do not buy your furniture at Ethan Allen!

I ordered a sofa from Ethan Allen on November 30, 2009. I was told it normally takes 6 to 12 weeks for an order. I received a call in February that there would be a delay as the fabric was "very popular" and my sofa was scheduled to arrive at the end of February or first week in March. I received a call from Ethan Allen's Warehouse that they had the sofa, but they were "so busy" that they could not schedule a delivery for two weeks. The first available date was March 15th. They gave a delivery window of 4:00PM to 7:00PM. I had to work, but my husband was at home (he had gotten off work early so he could be at home by 4:00PM). A couple of minutes before 7:00PM, the delivery truck finally arrived with the sofa.

My husband called me at work to tell me the delivery had been made and began describing the sofa. I knew there was no way that the sofa was ours, it wasn't that the fabric was incorrect, it was also the style, etc. Of course, Ethan Allen was closed well before 7:00PM and there wasn't even a number on the delivery paperwork with a number you could call either during normal working hours or after working hours. The delivery people were contract (not Ethan Allen employees). We had no idea who they were or how to contact them. Early that morning, we received a call late Monday evening that my mother was dying. We departed for Florida very early the next morning. So we were stuck with someone else's sofa.

I called the Ethan Allen store on the way to Florida and advised them of the mistake. We had no idea when we were going to return. They returned my call late that afternoon after trying to determine whose sofa we had in our possession and the rightful owner of the sofa in our home. My mother passed away on Wednesday and we returned home late Thursday. I called them on the return to advise them that they could pick up the sofa and deliver the correct sofa. We had a small window on Friday, as we had to travel back out of town to Georgia where the funeral would be on Saturday. We received the correct sofa as scheduled on Friday, 3/19, almost 4 months after we initially placed the order.

To top that off, one of the 2 pillows (not cushions) had a bad zipper that was splitting open. I paid over $1,500.00 for this sofa and I have a pillow that is not even useable. So I took the pillow to the store on March 30 to see if they can just put in a new zipper. Oh no, they have to order another one. Another 4 -6 weeks for one little pillow. I called today, April 21, to find out the status of the order. They are telling me it should be here by May 7. I believe this is totally unsatisfactory and I never want anything to do with the company again. I will gladly tell anyone my story and will recommend they do not do business with this company. After years of looking for just the right sofa, I fell in love with a floral linen model at Ethan Allen. It was firm (we are not fond of the over soft sofas so popular these days) classic in style and built by a company we had heard good things about. On top of all that, it was on sale for half price (about $1000.00). I spent a good deal of time looking it over and even sat down with a book just to be certain that this was the sofa for me, but when I asked about the extended warranty they told me that I could not buy it for this sofa and that it was, in fact sold as is.

I almost walked out the door, but after about two hours of thinking it over, and the sales person assuring me that it was built to meet their warranty, I went for it. What a mistake! Within 3 months, the fabric on the seat cushions began to split. I called for help and they asked for the fabric code off the label. Funny thing, there was no label matching their description. After weeks of trying to get an answer, they told me that there were no reports of problems with this fabric and that, being linen we must have exposed it to too much sunlight. We almost always keep our curtains closed, but the sofa was "as is" so it's not their problem.

Then, after about 6 months of use, one of the springs snapped. As is! But they could sell me some matching fabric and a new spring! This is our living room sofa. The dog is not allowed on it, the kids are not allowed to eat while sitting on it, and I admonish anyone who "drops" onto it. Most of it use comes when my wife and I are watching TV. It gets regular use, but nothing rough. Now, after only one year a caster has failed along with a second spring. To keep this sofa, we will have to strip it down, replace 2 springs, reupholster the seat cushions and replace the feet. This was built to hold up to their warranty? We are out the original $1000.00 purchase price and looking at hundreds more just to make it useable. In it's current condition, it causes back problems in two areas due to lack of support from broken springs.

It began piling, little nubby fabric balls appeared wherever one's body made contact with the fabric. My husband was the only one to use the chair. He used it less than 10 times when I asked him to divert to the maple Windsor chair.

I am currently awaiting a representative's visit to assess the situation. I have purchased many other EA pieces in the past (30 years ago) and the quality was outstanding. Unfortunately, the quality is no longer there. The sofa smells like witch hazel--awful. I took two years to decide on new styles for the room. I will say that their Edwardian desk is lovely. My complaints are with the upholstered items. Even if they replace the chair/ottoman, I'll have to find another detailed fabric to make the whole room work as well as the current fabrics. The entire room was configured by one of their designers. Taking a main fabric out will really upset the apple cart here. Still awaiting the company's visit.

Verbal estimated delivery from Kaye ** at the time was early December. Early October 2009, I received an email message from Kaye ** saying our furniture would now arrive in late October (earlier than expected). We subsequently got rid of our old furniture, had the rugs professionally shampooed, etc., in anticipation of the new furniture. In mid-November 2009, there's a call from Ethan Allen saying our custom pillows had arrived. We instructed them to hold on to them until the sectional arrived.

In December 1, 2009, the Mr. Swivel Rocker and two ottomans were delivered. However, still there's no sectional. End of December 2010 came, and no sofa for the Christmas holidays either. I called Ethan Allen to complain about the runaround. In the end October 2009, we were now told there was a shortage of the fabric we ordered and the sectional was not yet in production. The store manager (Phyllis) said she would personally follow up and keep me personally informed as to the progress being made.

In mid-January 2010, I received a call from Phyllis at Ethan Allen saying two pieces of the sectional were complete and at their distribution center. (What happened to the third piece?) In late January 2010, I received a call from Phyllis at Ethan Allen saying the final sectional piece had arrived and was ready for delivery. We set up delivery for the sectional and the custom pillows for February 4.

On February 4, 2010, the three-piece sofa was delivered but not the custom pillows as promised. The driver said he had been at the store in Sterling earlier in the morning and they could easily have put the pillows on the truck. (Left hand not talking with the right hand.) I called the Ethan Allen store, very irate over this entire fiasco.

We were being told first one thing and then another. It appears the initial sales person was just out to make a sale and didn't know what she was talking about with regard to giving a realistic estimated delivery date to her customers. We weren't informed until late December that they had not even started production. It did not arrive until almost 5 months after placing the order. The store manger promised (regardless of company policy) after everything we'd been through, that the custom pillows would be delivered with the sofa. Obviously, this was not passed on to anyone else who could coordinate it while she was on her day off.

After venting my anger, Lisa said the best she could do was to ship the pillows to us via UPS at no charge. I agreed. Several hours later, she called back saying the pillows could not leave the store without they receiving the final payment first. Again, a ridiculous company policy. This is really bordering on being atrociously petty. After our spending over $7,600 and having to go through all this aggravation, to not ship something until you receive a mere $275 is ridiculous. Who in their right mind would make the final payment on any product without receiving it?

I am absolutely flabbergasted at your lack of care for your customers, repeated broken promises, delayed delivery, and lack of coordination amongst your own staff. With Phyllis on her day off, I was told there was no one there who could make a decision. What does that say about your corporate management style?

I will tell all my friends not to have any dealings with you. I also plan file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We had planned to have Ethan Allen design and make furniture for our sun room, but we are now reconsidering this decision.

Same as all the other complaints, I bought dining chairs. When I received them, the carving was not as well detailed, the wood on the bottom had knot holes and subsequently broke and the arms needed gluing. The sofa costs $11,000. The cushions were the highest quality they offered and came not filled with down and feather as described but polyfill. The seat cushions did have a thin down component, but not the back where it really matters. It was bad, never again. Two dining chairs went to garage broken and the sofa I’m using is not worth the money.

Do not buy from them. It's garbage! I purchased dining room furniture (table, big hutch, six chairs, two end fabric end chairs) a few years ago. The whole experience was a nightmare. Two tables later, wrong fabrics on end chairs. Two hutches and the last one still needed furniture repair. I was so upset for weeks after calling and calling and calling. We paid over $15K cash for this furniture. It was all due to poor workmanship and customer service. I wrote to the president of company. No one wanted to help.

The table leaves were not matching. I could see my rug through the leaf cracks. They said, "Oh, we make it that way." If you can fit a credit card width between, that is the correct fit. My husband is a wood worker and he assured them it was not correct. They are all ** including the president Farouq K. That company should be out of business! They do nothing for the customer or any of the problems with quality or workmanship or customer service. They blame it on you and try to weasel their way out of any responsibility. I wanted them to take it all back and return my money. No returned calls from customer service, no home visit, nothing. I was so disgusted. I will never buy another thing from that company. The repair department agreed to replace the doors on the entertainment center but were unable to supply doors that matched it. However, the bigger issue is with the sofa. Shortly after delivery, I noticed something wrong with one of the back pillows that was constantly wrinkled. It appeared to have too little filling or too much material. Now, after 5 months, two back pillows are wrinkled and one seat cushion is collapsing giving the sofa the appearance of a much older sofa.

In addition, the sofa skirt is rippled all around the sofa. Pictures were taken by a representative and forwarded to Ethan Allen's corporate offices. After seven weeks, I was informed that someone would be sent to provide more filling for the back pillows and steam the sofa skirt. corporate is refusing to replace the seat cushions even though the repair rep suggested it. My previous sofa that I had for ten years was in a better condition than this sofa after the first three months. I spent a considerable amount of money on this furniture and I am shocked by the lack of quality. I'm sure Mr. Farooq K., CEO of Ethan Allen, would not consider this sofa acceptable for placement in his living room.

Having previously dealt with Ethan Allen for many previous furniture purchases and with the Saratoga store for many of those, it seemed like a safe choice when it came time to get a new sofa. After some consideration and comparing of fabrics and other options, a couch was selected and ordered in early July. Our salesperson (Sherry) said it would arrive in ~5 weeks. After 9 weeks, a few calls were placed asking the status. The calls were not returned. After 10 weeks and a return visit to the store, a call back from our salesperson was promised. Again, no one called back. The next visit (and still no contact from our salesperson) led to another representative finally being able to give us the status (It should arrive in another month!).

Finally, more than 3 months after being ordered, it arrived. The person who was present to receive it immediately noticed a few problems: Mainly that the style of the arms was not what was ordered! Additionally there were some minor fit and finish issues. The delivery representatives contacted their bosses in this regard and advised them to have it noted on the delivery papers (which it was). If I was there, I would have likely refused delivery, which may have avoided some of this (or just led to entirely different headaches).

Again, calls to our salesperson were not returned! Finally another visit to the store provided another promise of a callback, but also the contact of Ethan Allen's customer service representative and promises that they would make it right. A callback from our salesperson was finally received - she wanted to come and take pictures of the sofa? Repeated back and forth calls to their customer service rep led to eventually being referred back to the salesperson (Customer service only handles warranty issues, and this wasn't a warranty issue.). Upon ending the last call with their customer service, I was told that the store manager would call me back later that day. As usual, no call came.

The following day, I was called by the salesperson Sherry. I was again told that she wanted to take pictures, etc. I explained that I did not see the point in that and I was interested in knowing when I would be receiving the sofa that I ordered. Amazingly, I was then told that the customer has to take responsibility for what they ordered (even though this was clearly not what was ordered). She said the store manager would call me. That was 4 weeks ago, and I am still awaiting the callback.

The duvet and shams frayed terribly after a very short time of use. We did not use the shams other than to have them sit on the bed when it was made. The duvet cover was turned down at night and no kids or animals played/slept on our bed. I mentioned the fraying to the sales lady at Ethan Allen and her first question was: do you have a cat? Yes, I have a cat but it is never on our bed, as I am allergic to it.

I would defy her to find a cat hair on it. However, she said she was going to follow-up with me on this but she never did. I stopped using the duvet cover after a short time. I just got a good deal on some picture; however, that was priced an ungodly $600.00/piece. They had been mismarked and were also marked down from there, so I ended up paying a reasonable price in the end.

They picked up the table on October 29, 2009 to bring it to their service center.

Once they received it, I got an email stating that the table was heavily used. I used the table only for decorative purposes. Now, they have me retracting my complaint and the power is in their court. I am scheduled for major surgery, which they are aware of. I know I am not getting this table back in perfect condition, nor will I be able to determine if I was happy with the job they did, since I will be bed-bound for a while. Today, I emailed Ms. ** about the status of the table and she wrote back that it was in service; she will email me pictures as I had requested and scheduled the re-delivery.

I have offered them to keep the table with no reimbursement. They should have run with that offer. I have also offered to get 1/3 back of what the table was worth. Why would anyone want to take a defective table back? I do not want this table back. It is a lemon, like the other three pieces they were willing to take back. I am sure I will be getting a call that the table will be fine, in their eyes. Their repair service was very considerate about the condition of the table when it was inspected at my home. I chose a sectional from Ethan Allen in August 2008. I received it in October 2008. I immediately noticed that just sitting on the sectional in the family room, there were many pulls in the fabric. The store decorators were aware at the time of sale that this sectional needed fabric that would cover the stain. He stated that he would forward pictures to a Trisha in the regional office and she would contact me. Immediately, my cats were placed in my master bedroom and the sectional was covered with every blanket sheet I could find not to have any further pulling. After several weeks of waiting for a return call from Trish, I called her to ask what was going to be done. She stated that she would have a local upholstery cop come to my home, take a part of the sectional, and have the front panel with the stain replaced. At that time I asked that she not do this as there was something wrong with the fabric and she was just wasting time and money. She insisted. I received a phone call from Wilson Upholstery that day. They came, and after assessing the sectional, they refused to take the piece of sectional for repair as there was more problems than they wanted to get involved in.

A call was placed to Trish again by me to explain what had happened. Again, she was made aware of the fabric complaint and what Wilson upholstery stated to me. They also assessed the filling in the lounge, sat in it and stated something was wrong. The cushion was made wrong it was falling off the front of the chair. I neglected to inform you that at this time, the sectional that I had purchased for my family room was placed in my living room, still covered so as not to have any further pulling of its fabric. The cats are still banded at the bedroom. After several phone calls to Trish complaining of the fabric, each call ended with the same answer, "We are going to replace the stained area and we are going to replace the filling,” never answering how this was going to help with fabric problem. Because of her insistence, I allowed Wilson Upholstery to take all cushions and pieces for reupholster. After several weeks, I received all that was taken, no different fabric, still pulled even just sitting on it. I was told this was normal wear, certain fabrics did this. I refused to accept that a sectional billed at $5800.00 would look like junk in just months. Several more calls to Trish resulted in no resolution to this matter. Therefore, I contacted my credit card and placed the matter in dispute on April 3, 2009.

I then searched the Web and found the Ethan Allen Corp. office phone number and was put in touch with Donna **, Head of Upholstery. The outcome was that Ethan Allen had numerous problems with this fabric. I could go to the store and reselect fabric keeping the sectional I have until I received the new one. I advised Donna that I did not want to reselect fabric. I wanted Ethan Allen to come and pick up the furniture and take the cost off my Ethan Allen credit card. Donna graciously replied that she would contact Trish in Charlotte and have her contact me to schedule a pick-up as well as call credit department to have the charge removed. I stated that I hope that this was the end of this long situation. She replied that she hope that I would in the future reconsider purchases from Ethan Allen. I stated that at this time, after having so many problems, I just wanted this to be over. She laughed and agreed stating that it would be. At that time, I felt this situation problem was taken care of, but after several weeks of not hearing from either Trish or Donna, I decided to call Donna and explained that I had not heard from Trish in Charlotte office. This was on 5-22-09. Donna assured me that she would call Trish and put fire under her.

On 5-28-09, after no contact, I called Trish who informed me that she new nothing of my situation with Donna ** at corporate office. Immediately, I attempted to contact Donna on June 4, 2009. I left a message, no return call received. June 5, 2009, I left a message, no response. On 6-8-09, I finally got Donna. She stated that she spoke with a Shane who stated to her that they could not help me with the sectional because my cat had urinated on the couch, therefore nothing could be done. I reminded Donna of our previous conversations and that this was a lie. I asked what proof they had and who stated this. This was a blatant lie. Since that conversation, I have not heard from Donna who stated that she would speak with management. I have left messages on 6-9-09 and 6-10-09 with no response. Please help.

We purchased $12,000.00 worth of furniture from Ethan Allen in August 2008. The pieces (a paramount sofa, 2 chairs, 2 ottomans, and a Shawe chair and ottoman) were delivered in October and December '08. Upon delivery, we noticed some problems with skirting that wasn't lying flat and tufting that was very poorly done (not as shown on the retailer's floor or catalogue). Subsequently, some of the skirting came loose.

We contacted service and they came to the house and adjusted the legs on the furniture to alleviate the buckling in the skirting. That did not correct the problem. They came back and tried steaming, but that did not work. They insisted that the carpet in our new house was too thick and the skirting that came loose was our fault because it wasn't meant to be yarded on, according to their service rep. I explained that I was trying to smooth the wrinkles with my hand, which they misconstrued to be yarding. They would not accept any responsibility for the problem. Photos were taken, comparisons made, and an independent upholstery company did an evaluation. The upholstery company felt the concerns were all valid and agreed that this was not the quality they were used to seeing. They made recommendations to Ethan Allen.

A few days later (7 months after the purchase), I received a letter from their service department saying that they were washing their hands of the situation and that all items met Ethan Allen standards. I registered a complaint with the BBB in Calgary. Ethan Allen came back with the same reply, but conveniently did not actually address all the concerns.

I am not impressed! I feel that we were totally misled with regards to warranty and customer satisfaction, and feel ill that I had spent so much on furniture. I made the mistake of thinking they were reputable but I will never make that mistake again. I can't believe that they can turn a blind eye and get away with these sorts of things!
