More about Rollovers ...

Rollovers are a major menace to motorists, particularly those driving SUVs and pickups which, because of their higher stance, tend to be top-heavy and thus more prone to roll over. Many single-vehicle accidents are caused by unstable vehicles tumbling over when a driver swerves to avoid an obstacle or simply loses control during a moment of inattention.

A closely-related hazard is roof crush. Even if one is securely belted in, the likelihood of injury or death rises dramatically if the vehicle's roof collapses, as often happens. Federal safety regulators have spent ten years drawing up tougher regulations, with no results so far.
