I never imagined I would have to write a review like this. I trusted Banfield with one of the hardest moments of my life. I paid for a private cremation for my beloved dog, Kali, because bringing her ashes home meant everything to me. Instead, I was told there had been an error, and her ashes had been thrown in the trash with other unwanted dogs. That is something I can never get back.

The mistake itself was devastating, but what hurt just as much was the lack of empathy, accountability, and communication afterward. Being told that “everyone makes mistakes” felt dismissive of the unimaginable loss I was experiencing. This wasn’t a simple mistake. Kali was my family, my best friend, and the last physical connection I would ever have with her.

The offers made to “make it right,” such as an empty urn and a blanket with her picture, did not address the magnitude of what was taken from me. No keepsake can replace the ashes I entrusted Banfield to return to me. What disappoints me most is that I expected compassion, transparency, and leadership from Banfield. Instead, I was left feeling ignored during one of the most painful experiences of my life. I hope no other family ever has to experience this. Please remember that that our pets are family, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, even after they’ve crossed the rainbow bridge. We love you forever, Kali.

I enrolled my then 6 week old puppy in the puppy plan on March 24,2025. Upon renewal the plan became to optimum wellness plan costing approximately $69.95/mo and included dental cleanings. I was not told at the time I enrolled that this would happen. This is roughly $12/months more than I expected. I called Banfield corporate to get this resolved and the rep informed me that they could only downgrade the plan at the next renewal and to speak to the office to have them downgrade the plan for me to finish the remainder of this year's contract.

I called corporate today and a rep who called herself Emily told me that they would NOT assist me with this matter. Emily proceeded to talk over me to which I asked her not to, argued with me and I finally asked to speak w a supervisor. She told me that the hold time would be between 3-5 minutes which I was fine with. A few minutes later Emily came back on the line telling me that I couldn't speak w a supervisor and that someone would call back w/in 24 to 48 hours. She continued to interrupt and talk over me.

I finally disconnected the call and tried to call again hopefully to get someone who was willing to help. Same thing different rep. The vets at Banfield are great, but the customer service is absolutely horrible and I will NOT be renewing this plan next March. I must say in closing that I work as a Financial Professional and our calls are recorded. If I EVER treated a customer in this manner I would be fired! Based on other reviews that I've read it seems that this is a common theme. Shame on Banfield for seemingly encouraging this. My premiums based on a 12 month contract at $69.95/months is $839.40. I can pay the same amount to a local vet and receive honest and fair treatment.

These people are thieves. They charge ridiculous prices not only for the visit for the Care for the procedures and for the medication if they try to get you to buy, which is like four times the amount of where you could buy it anywhere else. The reception staff is polite. The rest of them are useless, including the doctors I recommend going anywhere but Banfield also if you're thinking about getting a wellness plan with them, read the fine print because it's for a year so if you have any charges and you wanna cancel, they'll charge you for the rest of the time between what the charges are and what the yearly fees for the plan, which is outrageous horrible experience.

Would never recommend Banfield to anyone. I cancelled my dog's Banfield account in January and was told my last billing would be in April and still continue to get charged. I cancelled because not just once but twice the Webster, NY location left my dog in a crate for hours on end and never called us to tell us to pick her up. I had to call multiple times to see if she was ready for pick-up. The same day in January I cancelled my account. I put in a complaint and never heard from them again. I escalated it and again, never heard back. They refuse to follow up with their customers because they know their customer service is awful.

We called to cancel policy because our dog passed away and they told us we can’t cancel unless we give them almost $700 dollars for services received before she died. I have paid for this for 11 years and this is wrong. Will definitely spread the word on how they treat people on social media to prevent others from getting scammed. Also never received increase in monthly bill or renewal of contract.

I have been to Banfield pet hospital on a few occasion and the other times I went there I had a positive experience. It was at my most recent visit, at a location I had never been to before that I had a terrible experience. I had an appointment at 4:00 for my elderly 10 pound dog had a foreign object embedded in her hind leg. It was probably from a plant. I had to do all my communication through a "vet tech" and she would disappear and talk with the vet. This took a long time and then the vet tech came back and told me of a test the vet wanted to do. Remember at the this point the vet NEVER actually looked at my dog! This test had NOTHING to do with what my dog needed. I refused the test and asked why this was necessary what did she hope to accomplish with this test that had nothing to do with what my dog needed.

I asked to speak to the vet and for the vet to actually look at my dog. Eventually my dog was taken to the back and eventually the vet came out to talk to me. She said there was a foreign object in my dog and she said because my dog was sensitive to her touching her she would have to put her completely under and there wasn't time since she leaves at 5:00! This is wrong in so many ways.

First of all she does not need to be put under she could use a local anesthetic. My dog is old and has a heart murmur so she should not be put under. I am an RN, this is medicine, you don't always leave when the clock hits the closing time. If she would have seen my dog at 4:00 instead of wasting so much time only hearing about my dog through a tech there would have been plenty of time. Instead she sent me home with antibiotics and pain meds. The whole thing cost over 200 dollars and for what? the object was NEVER taken out of my dog. How is this good medicine, I'm disgusted. I was told to come back in 10 days and if they need to they can take it out then. The vet never apologized for wanting Luna to have a completely unnecessary test done before she ever saw my dog.

Very disappointed with how Banfield Pet Hospital @ 4735 Sharon Road, #100 Charlotte NC handled our dog's crossing over experience. We requested to pick up his paw prints when available, but received it through the mail, on the ground, in front of our door. The packaging did not say fragile or anything. We asked for 2 paw prints, and only received 1. The one we did receive was broken and has a crack through his paw. They also put blue paint on his nose and paws, stamped it on a regular piece of printer paper and drew squiggly lines with a black sharpie (very tacky).

There was 3 vials of his fur inside, one vial was open, leaving some fur inside of the package. I called and spoke to the receptionist, who was very apologetic, but didn't seem to really care. She placed me on hold to "inform" the onsite manager. Instead of the manager speaking to me, the receptionist came back on the phone and said "they are truly sorry for what happened and they will do better moving forward" 😑🙄. Our dog D.o.g did not deserve that! He was a 16 year old Pit Bull mix and a wonderful loyal member of our family. We trusted Banfield Pet Hospital with our family member, and they failed him and us. I do not recommend anyone taking their fur babies to them, and we will no longer use them for our other pets. I wish they would've treated our dog with a little more respect.

What a stressful 24 hours. My 8-month-old pup, Sasha, was miserable last night barking, moaning, and acting incredibly uncomfortable. Because Sasha has been going to the Union Banfield since she was 8 weeks old and received all her vaccines there, I naturally rushed her there first thing in the morning. She has never been sick before, so I expected a little empathy. Instead, I was met with complete disbelief.

After explaining how much pain Sasha was in, they flat-out refused to see her. They said they did not have time for her unfortunately. They literally just slid a clipboard across the counter with a list of other locations and turned us away. To be turned away by your primary vet when your puppy is hurting is heartbreaking. Thankfully, I called the Watchung location, and they were the complete opposite. It turns out Sasha is just in her first heat and her symptoms are completely normal, but Union's total lack of effort to help a loyal, worried pet parent is entirely unacceptable. I will never bring her back to this location

They are not very straight forward on their wellness plan. Understand that it is a form of a contract and that if you try to cancel, you will be responsible for remaining months for the year unless you never used the plan. Please read the terms and conditions prior to signing for anything. If you have a relatively healthy pet, you’re better off going to a non profit pet clinic and paying for the services rendered vs opting to utilize a wellness plan.

I've been with Banfield with 2 dogs for over 20 years. My dog just passed so I was trying to cancel my membership and they want to charge me for the next 4 months of the contract even tho I can't use them anymore. They didn't do that 12 years ago when my other dog passed. Do not sign anything with them. It's hard enough dealing with his death and now I'm getting ripped off for services I can't use.

Don't go here. I had an appointment at 9 am and arrived 15 minutes early and was told by receptionist I could not be checked in until 9 am. There were six other customers already there. One lady stated this was her third trip here to get heart worm medication for her dog that she sent the script into Chewy and that the store has been declining it. The tech Chris stated he would take care of it. Another lady arrived with a copy of her appointment on her phone, but was told it was not in their computer and was rescheduled after driving 30 minutes. Another young lady stated she was rescheduled from last week that she wanted a drop off visit, but was scheduled for in office.

For my visit, the computer would not let me update my address. It was very busy there and the receptionist was rattled. I was finally told to go to exam room 2 at 9:20 for 9 am appointment and there was already a owner and pet in there. I left because it was too chaotic and disorganized. The bench I sat on was covered in dog hair and it was not cleaned from previous day. There is also shortage of available parking spaces. Would not recommend this office. I only scheduled here since relocating from Tampa.

I knew 12yrs ago this day was going to arrive between myself and my buddy Echo, my cat, didn't expect it to be sooner than later that's why I tried to provide the best life with as much love my pal needed every day. There is no way for me to convey how special this little creature was to me, G-D sent, in a time that I needed mostly, having him in my life allowed me to get through some hard times, that's when I got the news Echo had cancer. I was floored!! I ran the race with him as far as I could go and when the time came to say goodbye again I was blessed by taking Echo to Banfield on Lake Pleasant Pkwy, Peoria AZ. Daisy and Dr. ** were nothing less than angels of compassion to me, right by my side allowing me to go through the motions at my pace, they were perfect, especially how they handled Echo.

One of the most memorable moments that will be with me forever was Echo going from shaking and being scared to calming down and passing in peace. I will be forever grateful for making such a difficult time easier for my best friend, Echo lived a wonderful life, always wag'n the tail, pur'n running around being a great cat, a great friend, a great Cat'panion, lol. I just had the WORST experience I have ever had with a vet clinic at the Kingwood facility located at 4521 Kingwood Drive. On June 2, 2026 I noticed my little dog's ear was swollen and somewhat firm. I got online to make an appointment at your Kingwood location as my dog's usual vet is in downtown Houston and not available. I made the appointment for 5:00 pm. I showed up on time and with my pet's records (on my phone) and I was told their "system was down" and my pet could not be seen. I was asked if I could "drop him off in the morning." I said I was not sure if it was an emergency and that I couldn't really come back in the morning.

I then asked why the vet could not see my dog without the computer working, as this did not make any sense. She said she could not pull up procedures or prices. Is there not a system in place at Banfield where vets can see sick or injured animals and then call in to corporate for prices or bill the next day? The woman behind the counter talking to me was clearly frustrated and got very annoyed with me and I told her I just did not understand her poor attitude. My dog is clearly injured or sick and he needed help. She said the doctor was on the phone and I could just wait to talk to her, but there was nothing she could do. I told her, "I am an attorney and when my computers are down or the internet is not working, I can still take care of my clients. If your system is so sensitive that sick or injured pets cannot be seen with a "down system", you all need a new system for emergencies or you should not be in the pet health business."

That counter clerk was so rude, unsympathetic, and uncaring that I just left to find a new after-hours vet/hospital. I will never go back to nor recommend a Banfield clinic nor the vet at that clinic. That location and the staff should not be in the pet healthcare business. I did call the 800 number for Banfield customer service and the gentleman who answered the phone and talked to me about my experience was very kind and understanding and he was amazing. That man deserves a raise and a promotion, but the entire Kingwood staff should be fired.

To my knowledge, I was never told this would happen if she died. Bad enough to lose my dog but to have to pay a ridiculous amount is NOT ok. An employee named Vannessa refused to provide her last name and was extremely dismissive. It felt like the focus was more on selling unnecessary services than actually caring about pets and customers. We left frustrated and upset. Because of this experience, I’m canceling my wellness plan and will not be returning.
