Horrible customer service! While some of the vets are awesome, the office staff and vet technicians are solely focused on upselling and have very little compassion and no customer service skills at all. Left one location because we could never get an appointment and now at the new location, it is just as bad or worse. The office people never follow through with their promises to check on things and often we show up to an appointment, having prior given all the details to the staff, and they act like we are crazy and only willing to see us for one item, then expecting us to reschedule an appointment. The upselling is absolutely terrible and it's 100% clear that all they care about is charging for every nickel and dime they can - even to those on high end wellness plans. Take your business elsewhere to someone with some compassion and the ability to care for the customers they have instead for cramming as many in as possible to grow revenue.

I am submitting this complaint regarding Banfield Pet Hospital’s handling of my cat’s medical emergency, which resulted in unnecessary and prolonged suffering. My cat had a known medical history of chronic gastrointestinal disease and pica, including a prior emergency abdominal surgery for a linear foreign body. During this visit, Banfield performed diagnostics confirming that she once again had a linear foreign body in her intestines, an elevated white blood cell count, and active inflammation. The veterinarian indicated that this likely represented inflammatory bowel disease and that her condition would be ongoing.
Banfield advised that my cat required a second emergency surgery, followed by lifelong medication, dietary management, and continued risk of recurrence. Given her history, small body size, prior surgical trauma, and the chronic nature of her illness, I expressed my desire to request humane euthanasia to prevent further pain and decline.
Rather than supporting this end-of-life decision, the Banfield vet emotionally pressured me to pursue surgery or surrender, despite knowing I could not afford it and despite acknowledging that her condition was chronic and likely to continue. I was made to feel guilty and irresponsible for wanting to prevent her suffering, rather than supported in making a quality-of-life decision.
Banfield discharged my cat without any form of pain relief, anti-nausea medication, anti-inflammatory medication, or palliative care, even though she had an active intestinal foreign body and was clearly ill. I was sent home with a short handwritten list of rescues, none of whom were accepting animals or able to help or even open, especially during the holiday week.
No Banfield staff contacted these organizations, coordinated care, or ensured any continuity of treatment. As a direct result, my cat completely deteriorated at home over several days while I searched desperately for help. I was eventually able to locate an emergency veterinarian willing to provide end-of-life services, but by that time my cat had experienced avoidable and prolonged suffering.
This situation was not about refusing care due to cost. It was about making a medically reasonable, humane decision for a chronically ill animal with a poor prognosis. Banfield’s refusal to provide euthanasia or even basic palliative care placed my cat in distress and left me without support during a medical crisis. I am requesting that Banfield formally review this case, their euthanasia refusal policies, and their failure to provide comfort care or meaningful assistance when discharging a suffering animal.

I've been with Banfield for five years and liked the Albuquerque NM location. However, as a snowbird, I use the Port Charlotte FL location and I have come up against two things that have made me rethink my membership. First, I was told a vet, Dr. **, said my little poodle mix was obese. I laughed and thought it must be an obvious mistake. Nope. I pinned her down and she insisted my 13.5 lb dog was obese. She's actually kind of skinny looking. I laughed and shrugged it off knowing my dog is a good weight and very active. Next, I brought her in for one of her annual comprehensive exams and they dropped the urine sample I provided so I brought in a second. They told me it was void because it had crystals in it because it was over the two hour limit. So I waited for a third opportunity to collect and drive in a 3rd sample only to be told I would have to pay for it because it had already been done.
Nobody explained what their definition of void means. To them it means the dog voided itself of the urine and they didn't have to take the sample themselves. I asked them to please run the 3rd urine sample to make sure she was fine and they said it would cost $95. I asked the nurse what the word "void" meant to her and she agreed it mean "not good or acceptable" and couldn't be used like null and void. I told her nobody explained to me Banfield definition and that's why I brought in a 3rd sample. She insisted I'd have to pay $95 to have the test done so I declined. I'm starting to be a dissatisfied customer and I'm seeing why they have so many bad reviews instead of good ones. I also learned by reading reviews that I am locked into a year contract. So when my year is up, I'll find a better plan with a more customer oriented company.

Vet Staff was unprofessional and very impatient. Unfortunately, I think the doctors are great, but my experience with the NURSING staff (front desk) at THIS location was disappointing. They appeared unmotivated, disengaged and easily upset, and I felt that basic professionalism and attentiveness were lacking. Communication was extremely poor task, felt rushed calls, felt they were lacking of detail. I’d expect a veterinary staff to be proactive, organizing and compassionate in this visit did not meet those expectations and I hope that management addresses accountability and customer service standards moving forward.

We purchased a wellness plan for our dog. Every time we needed to have some type of treatment or care the vet would pitch for us to upgrade his plan, however they never disclosed or explained that with each renewal you are obligated to continue to pay for the year even if your pet has passed away. Our pet passed away last night, and we just learned that we are obligated to continue to pay our monthly fee until April.

Have used them in the past, but this location, Sarasota, is not managed very good. Staff is disinterested. Had a confirmed appointment, arrived early, and they had no record of the appointment. My pup was in for an injury, and they couldn't see him for hours, even though they confirmed the date and time. My advice, don't take your furry there.

I had been taking my pet cat to Banfield for sometime and loved Dr. **, plus the staff was always friendly, especially Sarah. After Dr. ** left I began working with Dr. ** who met my needs. I have a senior cat who had kidney problems. After a recent appointment she became lethargic so I called Banfield for guidance. I was offered an appointment by Faith for the next day but I said I'd give it the night because prior to the earlier appointment she had been fine. However she did not improve and worsened. So the next morning I called Banfield, once again Faith took my call, and told her my cat's condition and told her I was en route to Banfield. Faith told me there were no doctors to care for my pet and reminded me that she had offered me an appointment the day before.
After an emotional conversation with Faith who was unsympathetic and still refused to see my pet. I went to All Pets where my "girl" died. It appears that Banfield is only available for routine care and not when needed in critical situations. My emergency was during their regular hours and I found it unconscionable that Faith refused to accept my pet, their patient in her time of need.

Two years ago we adapted a cat Snoopy, a most beautiful, lovely, and nice cat. We chose Banfield as the healthy care hospital, therefore we purchased the best membership plan listed by Banfield including nail trim and teeth cleaning and paid more than $50 a month. The second year, we sent Snoopy for healthy check and teeth cleaning. The vet with India name didn’t want to do the teeth cleaning when Snoopy was ready and took fasting from last night. We were told that Snoopy’s teeth are okay so he didn’t need teeth cleaning. Do you believe that someone eaten one year food without brushing teeth but the teeth are clean? For the missing service, we were asked to lower the plan to pay less membership fee. We didn’t want to lower the plan, we wanted Snoopy getting the service as he deserved. But we were not given other choices.
Two days ago, that was a saddest day, our beloved Snoopy suddenly collapsed and passed away without any signs but one month ago he had just completed a physical check in another Banfield clinic. We were told that Snoopy was very healthy. We worried his teeth very much so I asked how’s his teeth. I was told that his teeth is fine, only most inside teeth are building up gums that need cleaning in 3 months to a half year. We have other plans for Snoopy but he gone suddenly. We are in shocking and missing now.
This morning, we called Banfield to tell them that Snoopy passed away. The membership may stop but we are told that the membership is annual contract. Even if the pet passed away, we still need to pay the membership fee each month until the end of the contract year. We had this membership for two years, no one told us about this before even when we registered the membership. Therefore we need to keep paying the fee each month from Dec 2025 now until May 2026 next year. Do you believe that?
For our beloved Snoopy, we can keep paying without service but for someone who is new to select a healthy care for your pet, you need to know when you thought you are choosing Banfield as healthy care provider for your pets, actually you are to tie your pet’s healthy care to their wallet even though you may not get what you paid sometimes or you no longer need them.

Jenniffer was so kind and helped me get the cat out of my truck, and explained everything again to me, and I’m so thankful for Dr. ** for taking care of my cat's problem! She even called me and talked to me on the phone and told me exactly what was going on! I have never been so pleased with a veterinary facility as I have with Banfield! I would recommend Banfield to anyone who needed good care for their pet! Thank you all for everything you have done! You guys are amazing, five stars definitely!!

I and my family are devastated by POINT LOMA BANFIELD and here's why: ** at POINT LOMA BANFIELD at 3361 Rosecrans Street Suite 9A, San Diego, CA 92110. BEWARE OF **. She yells at customers and tries to intimidate customers. She raises her voice and talks down to customers and "wrongs" the customer hoping to get the customer to submit to her.
BANFIELD called us & left a message reminding us that our dog needed to have her dental. We made a dental appointment. We show up. They took her in. We left. All seemed fine. One hour or so later, ** calls. We are still in our car. ** asks some questions, tells us the blood work came back clean & she's about to do the dental. ** goes on to give us a warning. WARNING: If your dog needs certain teeth extracted & they are teeth ** is not qualified to pull, ** won't pull them and our dog will have to GO BACK FOR A ROUND 2 DENTAL. Huh? I asked, "Why is this happening because we've always had extractions done at the same dental?"
** went on to blame us for not properly scheduling. ** said, "It's your fault. YOU scheduled a dental cleaning, not a dental surgery. If you wanted dental surgery, you should have scheduled one." We asked, "How are we supposed to know she needs dental surgery if she hasn't had a dental?" To which I got no response. NOTE: BANFIELD called us to schedule the appointment; that means BANFIELD knows what we need since they are the experts; right?
For 25 YEARS we've been going to BANFIELD. EVERY.SINGLE.DENTAL with EVERY. SINGLE. DOG, if the dog needs a tooth extracted, we have them extract the tooth right then and there. Period. We believe BANFIELD is unable to properly staff this POINT LOMA store with competent people as this has been going on for years.
SCHEDULING ISSUE: BANFIELD should have called us in advance to tell us they didn't have a competent vet to do extractions. Instead, BANFIELD wasted our time, our money, and they trapped us. We told them to not proceed & we would pick her up. They told us to come in an hour. An hour? We left immediately and picked her up.
DOUBLED-DOWN: BANFIELD doubled-down on their impudence by informing us that if we do not bring our dog back within two weeks for a dental that we'd then have to redo the labs & pay for them out of pocket. I called BANFIELD HOTLINE; they told me to call the store & speak to the PRACTICE MANAGER. As it turns out, ** is the practice manager. I called, left a message. ** calls me back & starts screaming at me over the phone and twisting my words. I called the hotline again & filed a complaint.
I got the district manager ** on the phone. Sadly this is NOT my first rodeo with **. ** apologized & said ** behavior was bad, apologized for ** behavior saying no one should ever be treated that way, etc. ** also told me that yes, BANFIELD should have called us the week before to tell us they didn't have a vet to do extractions and reschedule us. There was not much ** could do to make me feel significantly better. He did soften the situation a bit by offering some help with re-scheduling and paying for new labs (if necessary). OF NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY FIRST BAD EXPERIENCE WITH BANFIELD, SADLY. BEWARE AND BE ON YOUR GUARD WITH BANFIELD.

My experience with Banfield has been all together bad. You get a couple new doctors who you can tell care but just about every front desk worker is a rude gate keeper. Their prices are unaffordable. My dog's condition is already diagnosed and I just need to continue with regular allergy medication but they won't do more than 2 refill a time and each time time I run out they want me to pay the office visit to come back to get more. I can't afford to keep paying their fees and then to top it off they just raised prices. I have to give my dog away to the pound because I can't afford to keep paying to see the doctor.
I barely can afford the medication. Not to mention they just raised the cost of their medication. How much? The rude front desk gate keeper with a sarcastic tone says, "I don't know. We don't keep a record of how much we decided to raise it" (just pay it peasant). Banfield I thought was supposed to be the affordable vet but they took notes from McDonald's and raised their prices so much that it's not even worth going anymore. Unfortunately this means to me that I either let my dog suffer or I give her away to the pound. I can't watch her suffer so I am forced to give her away.

When we started as new clients, we got the Banfield membership. After a few appointments, we got a call. A call stating our sweet puppy, who was only about 4 months old at the time, was biting the staff. Prior to this incident and after our dog now 2 years old has never attempted to bite anyone. The only time that happens is if you try to hurt her or her family. We never got all the facts. But a dog doesn't just start biting people that she has seen at least 2 or 3 different visits at times for 2 to 3 days straight.
We believe someone a volunteer had intentionally tried to hurt her or hit her and then she snapped. She has been around our kids and other people. The worst she's done is bark. Then a month after that we cancelled our membership as we couldn't pay for it no more. THEY NEVER EVEN CANCELLED IT! Now we are in debt because of it. Come to find out this is not a one time incident. A friend of mine had the same issue with the membership as well. Cancelled it and they they never cancelled and just kept collecting and adding to it. DON'T GET THE MEMBERSHIP EVER. We stopped going to that clinic the moment we cancelled our membership and never went back.

I have had two experiences and different Banfields. The first one literally gave a vaccination they were not supposed to. Since I was with their wellness plan it was a nightmare and costly to get out of. I moved to a different city and the Banfield close to my home had better reviews. But over the last four to five years there has been a change in staff and there is absolutely no communication. I got to my appointment on time. Got checked in and was waiting. While waiting I remembered I needed to refill a prescription. When the lady came back out I asked if it can be renewed. She then told me I was scheduled during the doctors lunch. My dog was already anxious and itching to be done. She said I could drop him off. The appointment was for an in office and I live 25 min away. Come August I am done with Banfield. Don’t waste your time with Banfield.

UPDATE: They responded to my Google review and I followed up with them immediately, still haven't heard back after the promised "3-5 business day follow-up". Carolann was atrocious and kept running me around in circles - if you've ever seen Meet the Parents, she's like the airline representative - not customer service, customer disservice. She even went as far as saying the treatment my dog received at the second vet I took him to could harm him. I've never heard of a customer service/marketing rep giving medical advice. My dog's acute symptoms started getting better immediately after the second vet's office treated him with eye ointment and a steroid. Go to a real vet that will treat your animals, not a sales-based circus.
We brought our dog in earlier this week for a rabies shot, as well as concerns for mange and swollen, discharged eyes. Full disclosure, our male Aussie is extremely anxious and can act aggressively when scared, and was therefore muzzled. We were there for an hour, and felt a majority of the appointment was spent trying to be upsold care plans, versus being focused on the acute issues at hand. The vet voiced concerns over allergies, and I actually had to voice my concern that is was mange, which she agreed was a possibility.
They offered to do a scrape test, but the vet and I both agreed that he would be treated for the mange with prescription Simparica (which was specifically prescribed for the mange) and felt the scrape procedure would cause more distress when he was already very anxious. They then recommended a $90 anti-itch medication, which we declined because he responds well with otc Benadryl. So he was given the rabies shot, dewormer, prescribed simparica and treated for a potential ear infection. But no treatment was done for the red, discharging, swollen eyes. I called back Wednesday to voice concerns over the lack of treatment for the acute potential eye infection and never received a call back.
By Thursday morning, they were urgently worse and we had to take him to another vet, which promptly treated him for a potential eye infection. We reached out to the office manager to notify her of the situation and requested a refund for the $80 office visit, as the acute issue wasn't addressed and we had to take him to another vet to get appropriate treatment. I then received a call from the manager whom made me feel it was my fault since we declined the $90 itch medication (as we had Benadryl readily available) and refused the scrape procedure (which the vet stated she was preemptively treating with Simparica and the scrape would only further aggravate him). We will never return to a Banfield clinic.

Horrible experience! I took my rescue dog, Hank, in for a vet visit some time ago, signed up for a Wellness Plan, and was told that we should return to get xrays on his back leg. I called to set up an appointment and was told that the only way that Hank could be seen soon was if I left him there. I informed them that, as a rescue dog, he has anxiety issues and they assured me that he would be well cared for. I picked Hank up several hours later with INJURIES TO HIS NECK! I had watched the vet tech drag Hank out of the room by his neck and wrote it off as them needing to show him that they're in control. I've never liked that thin little choker leash that they use and he had a very good harness on him that would make controlling him much easier.
Hank is stubborn but a few kind words and some gentle, patient encouragement can get him eating out of your hand in no time. I got home and quickly saw these wounds, including a gash about 1½ inches long and immediately called Banfield back and voiced my concern. Dr Reddy jumped on the phone soon after and tried to convince me that Hank had injured himself while inside their holding crate, all while sounding like fielding my call was a waste of his time. Crates are not made with inside corners for a reason. Mostly so an animal cannot injure itself! The only way, that I can see, for Hank to have sustained these injuries, would have been with the use of extreme force and a very sharp, tiny restraint.
I've been to two other veterinarian surgeons since, whom have voluntarily confirmed this theory. I understand that getting an animal to cooperate while managing to get a good picture of his bones would be challenging, but injuring that animal for the sake of an incredibly expensive set of xrays is absolutely unacceptable. The people who work at the front area of this Banfield Hospital all seem to be in the business because they love animals, however, the older ones in the back seem to be in it for the paycheck. One of those aforementioned people, a very kind young lady, reached out to me to schedule Hank's next visit which is covered by his Wellness Plan, and I expressed my concerns about bringing Hank back to the place that so traumatized him, and she very kindly informed me that she would share this information with the manager.
That was over a week ago, and Hank is now several weeks past his next checkup. I'm paying for a service that isn't supposed to include abuse, let alone my getting lied to about it. I'm not sure where to go with this just yet, but I think I'm going to call an attorney friend to get his advice. I'm sure that there will be more to this story before it's over with! DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR PET UNLESS THEY ARE INCREDIBLY COOPERATIVE WITH STRANGERS!

I had a terrible experience with this company. They failed to disclose that the plan required a year-long commitment, and I was repeatedly charged a $20 late fee simply because I couldn’t update the payment card in the app and even when I paid the very next day. The costs quickly outweighed the value of the services. On top of the monthly fees, we were hit with over $1,200 in dental expenses, despite being told just months earlier that everything looked fine. Overall, the service was misleading, expensive, and not worth it.

I’ve had a really disappointing experience with Banfield Hospital. They’re extremely unreliable — their scheduling system is completely out of sync with their actual availability. They constantly overbook appointments, and then call days (sometimes even a week) later to cancel. What’s worse is that even when I call ahead to confirm my appointment, I still end up getting a call a few days later saying they can’t take me after all. It’s also nearly impossible to reach anyone on the phone — it feels like no one ever answers. Overall, it’s been frustrating and stressful trying to get care for my dog here. I wouldn’t recommend using their insurance or relying on them for consistent, trustworthy service.

My dog had dental cleaning at Banfield Pet Hospital in Highland Park St. Paul on 7/21/25. Shortly after this, my dog was at his regular vet for something else and I was told that he needed a dental cleaning. In early October, I began calling the clinic asking to talk with the manager about the potential need to re-do the cleaning. It took several weeks to get a call back. I was finally able to talk to Mikayla, the manager at the clinic who said she would get the records from the other vet and get back to me in several days. When she didn't call back, I again began attempting to reach her for the next month. Each person I talked to said that she would get in touch later that day in addition to telling me they were having a very busy week.
After about a month, I was told that the matter had been escalated to the chief of staff, Dr. ** and that he should be reaching out. I inquired why no one had relayed any information to me or bothered to return my call. I was then met with the response saying the clinic has been very busy. I appreciated what the wellness plan offered while I had my pet — It helped with some costs and made care more manageable. However, when my pet was no longer with me (rehomed or passed away), I was told I’d still have to either pay off the rest of the plan in full or continue making monthly payments until the contract ends. That policy feels unreasonable and lacking in compassion. We pay monthly to care for our pets, and often still pay out of pocket for services not covered. To then be told we have to keep paying even after our pet is gone — whether due to rehoming or loss — is frustrating and feels wrong. My family and I (including my mom and sister, who also had plans) are very disappointed. I won’t be recommending Banfield to others unless this policy becomes more understanding and flexible.

I will say this. Avoid this vet group at all costs. I should have learned from our first dog and never returned but we decided to give them a second chance. Last year in September we took our dog to Banfield because she was struggling to breathe. They performed xrays and the works. Found that she just had "allergies" and sent her home with medication. A couple of days later it worsened so we took her to another vet for a second opinion. This vet simply touched and examined her. No xray. No blood work. Nothing. Looked at us and said he can feel masses on her. At that point we got xrays done and the vet confirmed she had cancerous masses on her lungs. Stomach and other major organs. We ended up having to put her down. Regardless of this situation we simply called and said, "Hey you guys missed this. Please just do better." At which point staff became very defensive. Whatever. That's in the past.
Fast forward to 3 days ago. We switched to a different banfield location. Different vets. Different staff etc. We brought our other dog to banfield for her 6 month checkup. Vaccines etc. They "examined' her. I told them she had been lethargic and not eating proper. They performed the exam and told us we need to do xrays and bloodwork. Sounds familiar. But they didn't see anything else. So following the same story as before. 12 hours later. The very next morning I brought her to another vet. This vet was busy but made time for us because we told them about our concern and what banfield wished to do with her. Within an hour. This vet called us back and said, "She's jaundice." We told them that banfield hadn't noticed it, and they said it was the first thing they noticed and it's not possible for it to have happened in a 12 hour period.
At this point we agreed to bloodwork and an ultrasound that came back to cancerous masses on her spleen and liver. Unfortunately she's terminal. Today we decided to call banfield simply to tell them "Hey you guys missed a case of jaundice. Do better." At which point the office manager then began to berate us and say the vet is thorough and no way he missed anything and it's our fault for denying blood work. And it's not their fault they missed it.
I have 2 things to say about that statement. 1: The best vets. The best doctors. The best of anything make mistakes. We weren't looking for a handout or anything. We simply wanted to say "hey you missed this do better" that way somebody else's baby could possibly not be in this situation. Whether the vet had seen this or not wouldn't change the outcome for our girl.
And 2: as somebody who deals with clinical side of medicine for many years. How is an office manager who has no clinical experience going to sit here and argue with us about missing jaundice? You don't require bloodwork for jaundice. It's something you see during a physical examination. I'm not even mad they missed it. I'm mad that rather than saying "we're sorry about that" you go on an absolute tirade blaming the family. So, since the office doesn't want to hear it I'll just make a public review voicing my opinion. Avoid this vet practice. Not only did they miss one case that could of prevented it worsening. They missed 2, and then want to argue about it. Hopefully somebody higher up sees this message and will get their shit together. No matter what your opinion is. You don't speak to somebody that way when they're grieving. Could you imagine a doctor calls you "hey your kid is dying of cancer, and it's your fault not ours."

Our dog Willow, has had great care with Banfield so we thought. Willow was spayed OWP (ovariohysterectomy) and removes ovaries and uterus on 04/30/2024 at Perimeter Banfield necklace to PetSmart. Today, 10/02/2025, for the last 3-4 wks Willow has experienced false pregnancy, per private has been as large as a baseball first 2 wks and now still inflamed but 1/3 of size. Bleeding has finally stopped we think. Her breasts are all enlarged, no milk, but glands swollen some. Perimeter Banfield closed within a month of Willow’s spaying and we relocated to Smyrna Banfield office. Which we really love Dr. McDonald. Because of Willow’s history, doctor advised to see a specialist at Blue Pearl.
Today, 10/02/2025, an ultrasound and labwork was done. Willow has her ovaries!!!! Now she’s going to have to have another surgery, be more at risk reopening. We're so upset with Banfield Perimeter office that is closed, and the Dr Vet who stated Willow had a total hysterectomy. I believe Banfield should pay me for the spayed that she didn’t have, pay today’s visit with Blue Pearl and the diagnostic testing, and any additional services including but not limited on the future surgery to actually remove the remaining female parts, and reprimand the
Veterinarian whom performed Willow's spayed - negligence for not doing what should have been done and to document that a ovariohysterectomy was done, pay for negligence on having a veterinarian performing surgeries and documenting what is done the come find out services weren’t completely done. Hope unprofessional. For all this reason, this is why I like to be in an exam room while my dog is being examined. Why are Vets not seeing pets in rooms with owners anymore? Seems strange to me. At that point, my dog (who lost an eye to cancer), could catch treats or a ball and see me. 8 weeks later, the same doctor told me she was too inexperienced with diabetes to care for my dog any longer. By that point, my dog was completely blind. If you want incompetent doctors who harm your pets and make your life infinitely worse, this is the place for you. In the meantime, find a vet who actually cares about your pet and make sure they have at least basic knowledge about your pet's condition. I didn't do this and I let these people let my dog go blind. I brought my pet to get pain management for suspected complications with arthritis. When I was called at 8:27 by the office it was only to discuss the prices of everything that would be done to him. I again received another call at 12:41 to discuss more costs associated with his care. I was not called again until 3:57 when he was ready to be picked up. Upon arriving, I was charged and was almost sent on my way without the medication that initiated me bringing in my pet. Medication that would have only cost me $122.66. Ultimately I left paying $828.98 with nothing to show for it but the medication. The vet did not even come to the front to discuss any speculative findings.
Once I got my pet home I called the office at 4:44 to see if I could speak to the vet. A woman asked me to hold, then proceeded to leave me on hold for 20 minutes until an automated voice eventually sent me to a voicemail box. I called back twice and was able to speak to someone regarding my question. The question is, did the vet notice anything from the imaging? After speaking to the vet the representative got back on the phone to tell me the vet did not see any broken bones. This had me completely astounded because I knew nothing was broken when I scheduled the appointment, so stating the obvious was not in any way constructive.
Additionally, when I got home, I retrieved my pet's medical records. On March 22, 2024, he had gotten the same imagining accomplished, and not once were the results of that imagining discussed at that appointment or this one. Which is more troubling because how would medical history not be considered when expensive exploratory procedures are being suggested? They only want your money. They don't really care if they help your pet.

Back in August of 2024, I had noticed my dog had some decaying on her teeth. I was experiencing high prices with our regular vet and had decided to switch veterinary clinics and chose Banfield Pet Care. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Banfield desk workers and presented my problem. I was advised that signing up pet insurance through Banfield that I could save some money.
I was told that the procedure would not be covered but some of the things, like a teeth cleaning and examination, would be. I have 2 AKC-registered dogs from the same breeder, so I signed both of them up. It was recommended that surgical removal would be necessary for some of the teeth. I agreed and asked for an estimate. I was told between $700 and $900. I was okay with that and made an appointment for my pet. In between appointments, I spoke with veterinary workers and was made aware, after trying to get a closer estimate, that the price would be $1500 to $1800. I still was okay with that amount because of the discomfort that my dog was experiencing.
The day of the appointment came and the price was changed again to $2100 to $2300. I had asked my father to take the pets to the clinic for the appointment who was 78 year of age at the time. We had set the money aside, which we had to save for that we agreed on. The price was raised again and we were short $100 of the amount that we we told. Because of that, the appointment was canceled. After all of that, we canceled the insurance and went with another vet. The entire time there was notification after notification to have our pets brought in for one thing or another.
My dog was taken to another vet without all the high demand to buy their pet insurance. The cost for the surgical procedure was $380.00. I’m not sure how they came up with those outrageous prices and changing the amount not once but 3 times. I’m so disgusted with all of that what our family went through. I changed pet stores. We recommend getting a second opinion because Banfield seems more concerned with money vs your dog's health.

I questioned this, made appointment next day after I bought a glucose marker to check her blood. I called the next day, she was fixing to call me to cancel the appointment, your doctor didn’t know how to use a glucose checker. I called Monday to complain. Melissa, the manager, said she will make me appointment for Sunday free of charge to draw blood with a didn’t doctor.
Ellie started to deteriorate, I brought her in, I think it was Wednesday. I had to leave her there. I check on her all day, couldn’t get anyone in the phone. Finally, Melissa called, said they were in surgery, they were checking her now. They charge me for another urine strip test, checked her glucose, 288 what she said. Sold me insulin, with needles. By that night, Ellie’s was distraught. I took her to the emergency room.
They hydrated her, gave me medicine for her to eat. So I can give her insulin based off of your doctor diagnosis or keep her overnight. I took her. I did everything they told me to do and nothing, now this is 1 o’clock in the morning Thursday, Friday morning. I took her back to the ER, cost me $2700. They did all her bloodwork, her urine test, she was not diabetic. She had an infection in her pancreas, which endured my dog to have a lot of pain, anxiety. I am deeply disappointed with my recent experience at Banfield Pet Hospital in Monrovia. On July 17, 2025, I brought my dog Rocky in for a bandage replacement after one had fallen off. During the visit, he became visibly stressed and struggled to breathe. Two people present at the time witnessed his distress, though I understand their hesitation to speak up because of their positions. Also I was informed by two vet techs that if the issue returned I would have take my dog elsewhere for surgery when Dr told me surgery could be done there. Have a saved voicemail with that info as well.
What concerns me most is that no medical record about Rocky's condition was written at the time of the visit. Instead, a note was added to his record a full week later, on the exact day corporate received my written complaint. That note claimed things that were not accurate, including that I specifically requested to see a particular veterinarian, which I did not.and even wrong date of service.
Additionally, following a post I shared on my personal social media page about the visit -- where I did not name the facility or any staff and where I even praised the doctors I have trusted for years -- I was informed that my Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) had been terminated by his vet . This decision was made without any direct communication with me and contradicts what I believe to be ethical veterinary standards. Vet refused to call me back after leaving a message to discuss what had happened and my dog who was still under his care. I guess he is fine with vet techs speaking for him and telling clients they would need to go elsewhere for surgery.
As a long time client who followed my trusted doctors when they transitioned to Banfield, this entire situation has been heartbreaking. My intention in sharing this is not to be malicious, but to stand up for Rocky and to urge Banfield Monrovia to uphold transparency, integrity, and the compassionate care our pets deserve. The two drs I followed are still amazing and I will always be grateful for all they have done for all my animals under their care New Dr on staff needs skills on how to communicate and handle clients professionally.

Banfield Corporate does not care. Don’t take your fur babies there. On May 28, 2025, Liberty, our Golden Retriever, began to limp. Looking at her paw we found a puncture wound in between two toes on her right paw. There was a literal tunnel going up into her paw. Liberty had been running around while we were camping the weekend before. I know all my dog lovers are screaming, “It’s a foxtail!!” right about now. Yes, we were very confident it was a foxtail.
May 29, 2025, my husband took Liberty to the Banfield office located at 3220 W. Shaw, Fresno, Ca. 93711, which had the soonest appointment available. My husband shared our concern of a foxtail. He provided authorization for all needed care to identify what was wrong (x-ray, probing, etc.). Our girl was limping bad, and we just wanted to get her fixed up asap. Liberty was treated by Dr. ** that day. Dr. ** informed my husband it appeared Liberty punctured her foot with a rock or stick, and it only needed to be flushed. She advised my husband against the x-ray and probing. They only post visit instructions provided were to keep the wound clean and dry and give the prescribed antibiotics and pain meds. This visit cost us $250.73.
June 18, 2025, my husband took Liberty back to Banfield because a puss filled bump had formed on her paw. This time we made an appointment at the 7512 N. Blackstone, Fresno, Ca. 93720 location. Liberty was still taking antibiotics and pain medicines from her last visit. My husband explained she was previously seen on May 29th and again we were concerned there was a foxtail. Liberty was treated by Dr. **. Dr. ** stated Liberty would need to be put under anesthesia, have x-rays, and if the foxtail is unrecoverable, she will need to be referred out. Dr. ** did find a foxtail in Liberty’s foot and was able to successfully extract it. The second visit cost us $771.88.
WHY DIDN’T THE FIRST VET DO THIS?!?! Again, my husband approved authorization to figure out what was wrong. Our poor Liberty!! Liberty is an important member of our family, and this experience has been very stressful. Foxtails are a serious threat and can cause very serious, even possible life-threatening issues. I’m just so angry this was overlooked the first visit.
My husband asked for the number for Corporate because obviously we were not pleased the first vet provided such negligent care. The Blackstone office provided us with the 1-888-649-2716. We called and spoke to someone by the name of **. We asked him if he would be able to help us with our concerns (we wanted a refund for one of the visits and out of our Wellness Plan) or if we needed to speak to his manager. He just told us we would have to pay money to get out of our Wellness Plan and he refused to transfer us to a manager. I swear I felt like I was in the twilight zone. The customer service, horrific. My husband and I called back and spoke to a lovely woman named **, she was very understanding and apologized we had a negative experience and provided us with the email (**) that complaints need to be sent to. Finally, someone seemed to care.
We emailed Banfield asking to speak to Corporate and they sent our message to the local Fresno office where Dr. **’s is the vet. After speaking to the manager and another vet they said the only relief they could provide for our experience was a refund for the second round of antibiotics and pain medication. They said their protocol was followed correctly. Protocol was followed correctly?? You have a golden retriever limping badly and they think she stubbed her paw on a rock or stick?? Come on?! There was obviously something in her paw causing her so much pain. So, I’m just warning you, if this is their protocol stay away!!
I emailed Banfield again and stated the local office was not addressing our concerns to our satisfaction and wanted someone from Corporate to contact us and here we are waiting. Not a single word from anyone. Banfield is ghosting one of their customers because they don’t want to deal with them. Sort of like their vet that didn’t want to deal with investigating why my Liberty was limping! So, here I am venting to the world. I figured I would post something on social media and report their negligent veterinarian to the vet medical board and see if I can get someone’s attention that way. I will keep you all posted on if I hear from Banfield.

After weeks of unanswered emails and phone calls that repeatedly disconnected, I was finally told by my local Banfield that they couldn’t help me directly and could only give me another phone number. When I called that number, the representative still couldn’t process the cancellation without requiring yet another redundant step: a separate phone call just so she could hear my father confirm his identity, even though we had already provided written authorization by email.
It should not take multiple layers of bureaucracy and weeks of chasing responses to simply cancel a plan and pay the balance owed. The lack of accountability, clear procedures, and timely communication is unprofessional and disrespectful to clients’ time. This is not an issue with individual employees. They were doing the best they could within a broken system. This is a failure of management and operations. Banfield needs to overhaul its processes so pet owners aren’t forced to jump through endless hoops for basic account management. I would strongly caution others to think twice before signing up for any long-term plan with Banfield.

My experience at the Banfield Wexford location has been horrendous. I feel that they are disrespectful, demeaning and the bed side manner is non existent. Every package offered always needs add ons that are never included but they make seem is extremely necessary. Why the perfect package is being offered only shows me how much they don't care for the actual welfare of the animals. A pet owner shouldn't feel less and even worse attacked by the people they are in trusting their pets safety to. I am disgusted how they treat people and only worry about how the pets are being treated behind closed doors. I feel just like a Veterinarians need a license to practice. There should be a similar education for the personnel who are checking people in at the desk. These people have no sense, they are a complete disgrace and further more Banfield should be ashamed how this company operates.

I would find any other program or insurance company and do your research. I have been with Banfield for 25+ years. On and off. The way they handle their “business” is super unethical. My dog passed away months ago. I told him I would settle with them (which I think is pretty ridiculous, considering my dog passed) and I came to find out. It is now late June and they’ve been charging me since March. I will absolutely make it a point to stir people away from this company and work it into every single conversation of every animal owner I know.
They don’t let you out of contracts because they are blood suckers. I’d like to feed off people at their weakest moments. Just run the other way. There is nothing worse than losing your fur baby and having to argue with the hospitals and vets that you thought you trusted. It’s just a super unethical company. Run!!! I am sure they will slowly fall out of business eventually. Cannot believe they’ve lasted as long as they have. Cannot believe I stayed with them as long as I did. I’ve learned my lesson. Most vets are willing to work with you on payment plans as well as selling you an upfront cost. They are always honest and you’re never surprised with fake add-ons. And you’ll never ever ever seen the same vet at each clinic longer than six months. That is disgusting.

If you have a wellness plan and you pay monthly, be aware! You must change your payment method for each pet plan individually. Updating the main account does not flow down to each account. Then they charge $20 when the payment fails. The conversation below is with a customer service rep who offered no help and proceeded to explain how funds have to be in at a certain time. Duh! When a payment method is changed and the old one deleted, it should not still be active on the pet plan pages. I gave 3 stars because the plan and the vets are good. The company itself sucks in technology and customer service.

I recently found two very small kittens in my garage and was not sure how old they were and if they could eat food or still needed formula. My husband and I put them in a box and took them to PetSmart for help. When asking the employee at PetSmart she was so helpful, although she was not sure of the age (this is the only thing I was looking for to help keep them alive). She said “let’s go ask the vet”, we walked down to your location and a Woman named Caitlyn refused to even entertain getting a vet to stick their head out the door and take a two-second look at them and tell me food or formula. Her reason? “We are corporate and can’t do anything without an appointment“. I was not asking for an evaluation, I simply needed a suggestion for food as we knew they were little and needed help.
Clearly this company has no human decency or care about the human treatment of animals, I was shocked at how rude she was cutting off the employee who was trying to get us help. Again in no way shape or form was I asking for an evaluation just a guess at age for food. Thank GOD a member of Ten Lives Club was still there and she helped us guessing the age at 5-6 weeks and stressed how important it was to feed them right away to keep them from crashing since they were so little. It’s sad that the corporate world couldn’t care less about another animal especially when your business is about keeping animals healthy.
The kittens are doing fine thankfully without any help from you because you’re “corporate“. Be a good person. Do the right thing, this wasn’t a huge ask. It was a literal two second look with a guess and either solid food or formula being the answer, she didn’t care if they died, she worked in a corporate company and rules were more important than being a decent human being. I will make sure anyone I know who uses this hospital will know the lack of decent humanity that lacks there. Judging by the other reviews I’m not the only one that has these same thoughts. Find yourself a smaller vet that local and NOT CORPORATE because their rules cloud the welfare of animals.

Banfield is a joke! In September of 2024, I took my cat Magic to the one in Springfield because I noticed that she had been losing weight. They did some bloodwork and said nothing was wrong with her. On my own I started giving her high caloric cat food and feeding her away from our other cats so that we could monitor how much she was eating. Nothing changed so we returned in November. That female vet was a joke and said nothing was wrong also. So we requested and paid for an appetite stimulant. Magic’s weight kept falling and eventually she passed on February 19, 2025. Now they have reported me to a collection agency for $357 for expenses supposedly not covered by the wellness plan despite never providing me with a bill, a letter or even a phone call. I am pulling out my dog from Banfield and telling everyone to stay away from this company which pretends to be a “hospital” if you really care about your pet!

BILLING COMPLAINT: My pet's bill for his Optimum Wellness Plan is due today. I went on Banfield's website to pay it, but was already charged an overdue fee of $20, because the card on file failed to process at midnight. I called customer service to discuss, and I was told that their bank is charged $20 for failed payment, which is then passed on to customers. 20 bucks? Really? Which bank is this? This is much worse than credit cards.
Sure, Banfield should charge something because payment failed the first time (at midnight! Right on the dot at 12:00 AM!). But not 20 bucks! And it seemed to me like I'm paying that extra 20 bucks every month for being a few HOURS late, but still within the due date. Oh, and they cannot reverse the fee because they already did that one time with me. They said it is only allowed one time within a year.
So I ended up paying the monthly bill, plus the $20 OVERDUE FEE, when the bill is not overdue yet and I'm still within the due date. I'd say that's greedy! Please read the fine print before getting the Optimum Wellness Plan, because they sure are good at convincing customers to sign up for it. Such a terrible experience!

We ended up purchasing the plan mid visit and they went ahead and did some services that day.
When we were leaving and we’re told he can’t use some of the services since he has heart worms we tried to cancel it, but then we would’ve had to pay for the services used. We were in complete shock about the heart worm diagnoses and left completely confused and ripped off. I reached out to your billing department via cst.inbox@banfield.com to let them know at the beginning of the month that the website showed a payment would be due on May 05, 2025 and that this was inaccurate because they received (2) payments from me in April 2025 for April and May 2025. I received an email response to call client services.
This morning, May 14, 2025, I noticed an email from Banfield stating that my account was suspended due to non-payment (I’ve paid late before and never had my account suspended). I logged into the website and saw that I had been charged (2) fees totaling $40.00. I called Banfield’s customer service after visiting the website today to discuss the error and was told by an associate to send my bank statement showing the additional payment for April 2025 to cst.inbox@banfield.com.

It's like a bad food chain. It's about how many pets they can get in.NO CARING. MY DOG IS TERRIFIED TO GO THERE. They kept in for a whole day in cage, I called about 1pm for an update. Doctor said they can't give him a shot and evaluation, cause he will not let anyone near him...never had that problem before at Baseline Animal Hospital. They wanted to sedate with needle to give him an examen and his shot. But if he lets no one near him, lol. How would that happen? The sedation shot was $200, but the exam and his regular shot was covered under plan. STRANGE!! And that was out of pocket plus the other add ons.
The lady next to me was complaining too! If I would not have called, my dog would be there all day for nothing. He chewed himself raw in that cage. And they know he has anxiety. A whole bunch of 20-year-olds, not knowing what to do, is not how you run an Animal Hospital. Total overbooking, people were waiting on outside of building. Me and three other clients had the same appt.time @ 8.15am. We were not seen until almost 9am. And I was there for a health certificate to travel. And I did not even receive the certificate. I suggest you all save $55 per month and then you have the money for the vet, or go to the Human Society, if you can not afford the shots. Very disappointing.

Banfield overall is a money grab. There are vets and techs that work for Banfield that genuinely care about animals, but they are trapped in the Banfield money machine. We have had the Banfield wellness plan since 2012 - and 2013-2024 was for two dogs. Last year, we discovered the hard way that the wellness plan we had been paying into for 12 years offers no form of emergency care and any end-of-life care/services are only during business hours. God forbid your senior dog have a medical emergency at night or on the weekends - you are coming out of pocket for that 100% at a place you've never been. It was awful and we lost our girl.
So for our other senior dog, we decide to change vets to somewhere that can accommodate emergency and end-of-life care - specifically a vet that can come to our home when the time comes. We haven't renewed our wellness plan package in years - there are no signed documents - in fact, the only change we made was in 2024 when we lost our girl. But somehow we are still "under contract," and we have to pay $500 to end our wellness plan.
So the rough math is 11 years of two dogs on wellness plans at roughly $75/month = $9,990 and two years of just one dog at roughly $45/month = $1,080 for a total of $11,070 that we have paid Banfield. No serious incidents, no major surgeries (our girl had a paw surgery in like 2013 that's it) just a visit every year for vaccines - but because we learned the hard way how awful it can be when it's their time and we want to do better this time, Banfield still has to squeeze us for that last $500. Find a vet that fits your needs and tuck that $45 or $75/month in the safe, and you'll be much better off. Banfield only cares about the money.

What an operation this place is, 10 years of wellness plans and other services only to end up with an unfortunate ending. Within a 5 week time frame, I took my dog in for an annual visit. He had is blood work done that came back ok with some elevated enzymes. However a mass was found on the inside of his leg that the Dr wanted to do a test on to see what it was.
The needle test was conducted and we left. We were back in several days later as it was now severely infected. The visiting Dr was questioning me as to why the regular Dr did not prescribe any antibiotics or anti inflammatory meds, this Dr was shocked with what she found. As a result of this we spent another several hundred dollars not covered by the wellness plan.
After a week of recovery we went in for surgery remove the mass by yet another Dr. The quote on the surgery did not cover the after care meds that were another several hundred dollars on top of the $1,200 plus surgery. Within the next two weeks he began developing bumps on this body, we returned to have the stitches taken out, I asked the Dr who was the surgeon about them he said “I'm not concerned about them” prescribed some supplements and medication for arthritis and an upset stomach and sent us home. We returned again to see the Dr as the dog was no longer walking correctly and eating normally, again he felt the bumps were not concerning although one was bleeding. This visit the Dr prescribed CBD oil and stopped al other meds that we spent Hundreds of dollars on.
The next Tuesday we went back as the dog was no longer eating and could barely walk. The regular Dr was back and as soon as he saw him he stated he didn’t like what he saw. After several minutes of conversation the Dr felt it was in fact cancer. The decision to but him down was made as I was not going to let him suffer any longer.
As the process began and I’m holding my dog the tech nonchalantly asks me to pick an urn like someone ordering a dessert in a restaurant. Then asked me to come outside to make payment, while I’m holding a dying dog. I had to ask this tech to just charge the card on file. Again just before the Dr came to the room, the tech comes through the door with a form to sign authorizing the procedure.
The total lack of empathy and how this company conducts itself at a patient’s and owners most emotional time is disgusting. The behavior of the tech was deplorable as in exiting of the room he stated to my deceased dog, "Tell Milo I said hi," that was his dog. It took everything not to respond to this person as I was in shock.
What I can’t understand is how 3 Doctors with years of experience didn’t know this dog had cancer. I can’t accept the fact that they didn’t know. The fact is they operate on a for profit service, there was more money to be made on treatments they were not at all part of the solution, and allowed the dog to spend his last weeks suffering.
Your wellness plan is a scam and your professionalism is deplorable. At the end when no more money is to be made you take the bill and that the euthanasia service. Finally after a week post loss, and reviewing legal issues against Banfield I decided to go get all my dogs' medical records. When asked why I want them, I told them for legal reasons and that was all.
After printing was completed I was asked I my dog came back, I said no and that no one has called me. Turns out he was there in a bag on the FLOOR!! You careless disgusting people don’t even have the common decency to place the remains on a shelf or cabinet or even in the back room. I can just say that the last 5 weeks were the worst experience ever and I am shocked with your company’s behavior. Please know that this experience has now made it impossible for me to care for another pet, as I can no longer trust the people I need as Doctors to care to them. You failed in your mission to help those in need, I can only hope at least one person sees this and chooses a different veterinarian. Perhaps more will join a legal fight to end your predatory and sales driven services

Extra things that were not mentioned. Okay fine. When we returned for a booster, we were not told that every visit needs to include a physical examination. Did they tell us that? Nope. Because I wash my dogs at least once a day and I brush them down thoroughly daily, and I never saw fleas.
Also, they are inside every day and on carpets and beds. Never have I gotten a flea bite nor have I seen a flea in her brush or comb! But they were assistant that I buy the heartworm and flea treatment! They have been trying to push this on me since I took out a policy with them. My bill jumped from $135 to $218. If I could give Banfield zero stars, I would. This place is the definition of corporate vet care--impersonal, overpriced, and intentionally misleading. We signed up for the Optimum Wellness Plan at around $60/month, thinking it would give us peace of mind. Instead, we got surprise bills, confusing language, and no transparency.
We were told it covered essentials, but the second we actually needed care, we were hit with a $670 bill for a checkup (which was supposedly included), x-rays, and a single 14-day supply of pain meds. We later went to an independent vet who did the exact same thing--plus more--for $500, with better care, clear explanations, and added medications.
Banfield constantly pushes unnecessary add-ons. When we took our cat in, they tried to upsell us on a $700 dental plan, using vague language and refusing to clearly tell us whether the lump we were actually concerned about was serious or not. Just endless upsells and deflection. They also put our dog under anesthesia for x-rays without telling us she needed an empty stomach--which she didn't have, and as we've now learned from a better vet, that was dangerous, especially for her breed. But Banfield rushed it and didn't explain anything. We had no idea it was unsafe until someone else told us.
Every visit ends with another $500+ bill, no continuity of care, and a rotating door of doctors who clearly don't know our dog. The only pleasant part of the experience was the front desk staff--but kindness doesn't fix incompetence. And now they're refusing to let us cancel the wellness plan, even though we never knowingly signed a year-long contract. They're saying we have to pay through October or owe hundreds in fees--despite providing awful care and no real benefit. Bottom line: Banfield exists to take advantage of pet owners, not support them. Please save yourself the emotional and financial drain. Go local. Go private.

The Optimal Wellness plan is a racket/scam if I’ve ever seen one. Once your pet is neutered and after 6 months of the flea and heart worm meds you are paying for nothing and are obligated to pay for a full year. So once you realize you are paying out of pocket for the flea and heart worm meds which are not discounted, you are just spending $86 a month for nothing and having to still buy the flea and heartworm meds for $30/month which is the same as anywhere else. So when you sign up you need to know you’re paying over $1,000 for the year and the cost of that it to pay for your pet to be fixed and 6 months of flea medicine. It doesn’t make sense to invest in.
When I called to cancel my membership I was told I’d have to pay $450 to cancel or just keep paying the next 5 months of fees and keep the membership and when I wanted to take the customer survey that said would immediately follow the call the customer service representative told me I needed to hang up and that I’d get a call back for the survey. That didn’t make any sense and I questioned him and he said that was the only way to take the survey. No call back after hanging up and so I was unable to leave a survey and he lied.

*1 star so everyone can see/read this.* On my experience I have taken my dogs to multiple pet hospitals in the past 6 years. The amount of money that I have spent is ridiculous, they are not spoiled, but I DO CARE FOR THEM since they are FAMILY too. Just last year I found out about the plans that this hospital offer, try it and it did help me save some money compared to what I spend on the first year of my pets. Everyone charges you around 80 -100 per visit, no one will give you a free consultation that is just dumb, everyone needs to make money, and all pets matter but money talks lets be honest! Yes, there are cheaper options for vaccines and neutering/spaying/castration, so do some research if you don't want to spend a lot of money on your pets.
Yes, I read some of the reviews of this how this hospital is the worse and they are "pricy", however I have noticed some misconceptions from the comments. When I first sign up, the technician clearly stated "this is a preventive care plan, and not a pet insurance". So I ask nicely if she could explain this better as I don't commit to something that could be a scam. She knew that had the misconception that the plan will pay for everything that my pet might need. Like castration, vaccines, surgeries and medications. However she mentioned that those plans are meant to prevent or caught diseases before is too late. That when you sign up for a plan you have access to services like vaccines with booster, castration if needed, comprehensive exam, and blood work. The last one is to verify that your pet's chemistry panel is within normal ranges and if there is an abnormality they can detect it before is too late.
One misconception that I have read/heard quite often is that owners usually think that just by explaining the symptoms, the veterinarian will instantly know what is wrong with the pet and will prescribe medication. On my experience yes it's possible that the vet will have a rough idea of what is happening however, the examination that they do its a "physical exam" an external examination. Most of the time a great option if you pet has something visible like fleas/ticks/rash/laceration/wound you named it. But something that you can see.
However, there are times when your pet is lethargic/vomiting/having diarrhea/internal bleeding. Your pet might require blood work and other testing like X-rays, ultrasound or CT. Those things are expensive believe me, I took my pet to EMERGENCY once because he had gastroenteritis, and I had to spent almost 12K for a surgery that fix it, and all the services mentioned. Without proper services there cannot be an accurate diagnosis and this sometimes can led to death on some animals. I recently read a comment of a pet owner that took his pet to Banfield because he lost some weight and the doctor believe it could be liver failure. I honestly need to know more about this story to understand your situation, I want to believe that they offer you to do blood work to accurately diagnose the condition, and you accept it. or that they recommended you to go to emergency to get a better diagnose.
Back to the plan I was told that it was a commitment of one year, that I could renew or call a few days before it automatically renew to cancel it. That even if my pet died, the plan cannot be tranfered to another pet and I'll still have to pay it. Or that I could pay for the services that were done. Before I accepted the plan I read many reviews that the techs do not mentioned that. But on my experience they were clear since the beginning.
Like I mentioned before this is not an insurance so if my pet needs a surgery it might not be covered but they do give you a 5-15% discount depending on your plan. When it comes to visits to the hospital, the plans cover for each visit. Try to make good use of it, even if your pet is not sick take it just for a physical exam and see if there might be something wrong that you cannot see. Don't just wait for them to call you and reminded you that you have services available with your plan. To end this conversation I want to make this clear this is my experience with banfield so far. I will give you some tips that you can always do to help you find for a better clinic if you think this is not a good one.
Tips: Before you sign up for a plan, always call other clinics for appointment, explain them the symptoms and ask for an estimate (remember that the estimate is only good for a small period of time and there are factors like weight, breed, animal behavior that can affect it).
- If it might be something internally, ask them for an estimate of blood work as well. that way you have an idea of what would you have to pay.- If your Pet is a puppy/kitten vaccinate them, be responsible and know that vaccines need a booster. That means that you will have to go back in a couple weeks to re-do the booster and let me REPEAT my self all clinis charge for each visit. Do not assume that you wont have to pay.
-That's just for vaccines, puppies and kittens are exposed to many new things on their first year so be mindful that they can get sick several times. That means paying for each visit and medications.
-Keep your pet on flea and tick prevention, even if you don't take them outside you can always bring those pest and give it to them.
I know this was a lot, but I hope it can help you on your decision, my intention is not for you to accept those plans is just for you to consider it if necessary. My goal is to make sure that pet owners are aware of the things that you pet might need, and that they care ENOUGH for them to do whatever is necessary to keep them healthy. I know there are a lot of bad reviews but this is pretty much the only place where they offer plans the other clinics only allow you to pay in full either with money that you have a the time or by getting a loan.

Went for a consultation two days ago and told them I was taking my cat to get his shots and a microchip for free literally in two days' time. I only went to get advice about his allergies and a messed up claw he has. I was lied to by the doctor and told they legally couldn't let me leave without giving him a rabies vaccination, so I stupidly listened and did it and paid for it. Come to find out, they legally can't keep me or my cat because it's ultimately the owner's decision to vaccinate. I'm pissed and am never going back, nor will I ever recommend them to anyone.

My first visit I was told that my pet needed her tooth pulled and that the doctor was able to do it on my next visit with no charge. I was given medicine which I thought was for her tooth. My last visit the doctors acted as if they didn’t know about her tooth and told me that I was only there for a booster. After explaining to them what the doctor told me last visit they claimed they couldn’t pull the tooth and that it would be $400, when the doctor specifically told me the visit before it would be no charge.
I told the doctors I wasn’t getting the booster because the cost was too much. The whole time the doctors kept going in and out of the room just to tell me how much the tooth would be. They took a picture and claimed it was for documentation and then charged me $70 for a doctor visit when they didn’t do anything. I felt mislead because I was told two different things, the doctors didn’t do what they said they would do, I was charged for no reason at all, and the whole experience was just a waste of time and money. I will not be going back to Banfield and I would not recommend anybody else to neither. Also the prices for services are way overpriced, why am I spending only $32 on a shot and then $71 for a doctor's visit. The wellness plan is also too expensive, $50 a month when I’m not taking my pet to the vet that much.

DO NOT EVER GET INTO BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL PLANS! This is an abusive company. They want to charge for every single visit, essentially covering nothing. You get charged monthly fees for regular visits to be free of charge, then you get these calls with absurd medical issues asking you if you want to proceed with testing and medication at an additional ridiculous cost. Also, I am a busy person, when I enroll my cats, I asked them if they will call me to let me know that my pets were due for their visits, they said yes, and no one called me, I had to find out myself when do I suppose to take them for their regular visits. In addition, when I take them for visits, they say they will call me when they are ready, but I have to make sure I pick them up on time.
How am I supposed to know when they are ready to be picked up if no one calls me? I also have to call to find out when they will be ready, then they said they forgot to call me and hurry me to pick them up. I also thought that I get a lower price if I neutered my cat, as they did for my first cat, but this time they were trying to charge me around 400? Where some of the charges had nothing to do with the procedure.
What is the purpose then of having a plan with them? They withdraw promptly their monthly payments for services that were due to my pets, and do not let me know about it, and on top of it, they want to charge a lot of money for the neutered/spayed services. I tried to cancel their plan, and they wanted to charge me over $ 700. This place needs to be closed. I wish some type of audit is performed, and they reimburse all the customers who supposed to have their regular visits, but did not have them due to their staff not doing their work. Please do not waste your money. This company is a fraud 100%

My initial experience with Banfield was ok. I had wellness plans for two dogs. While I was deployed to Afghanistan with the Army, one of my dogs passed away. I understand how contracts work, but they refused to let me cancel the plan for my deceased pet or offer any type of discount even though I kept the plan for my other dog. Now I am even more unhappy with the company. Beware of their wellness plan as it automatically renews. It took my five separate phone calls to be able to talk to a person about my plan. Every time I called I waited at least 20 minutes. They give you the option to leave a number for them to call back, not once did they call me back.
I then had a plan for my cat. He was showing signs of a possible blockage (which can be deadly in the matter of a day) and called to get him seen. They did not have an appointment available for two days so I had to take him to the Emergency vet. I paid $500. They make sure to stress that the plan is not insurance, but I feel their business model is very shady. I believe the only reason I was even able to get my plan cancelled was because I lost my debit card and they were unable to renew the plan. I asked that they waive the last 2 months ($94) since they could not provide the care I needed at the time it was needed most. If my card had not been lost I am sure I would have had to pay for a whole more year. Very disappointed. Even with the plan, I could not afford X-Rays and other care I needed throughout the year for my cat. Please reconsider another company for your pet insurance needs.

This place is dangerously inept. They have a bunch of very young girls answering the phones and manning the front desk who have no idea what they are doing. I paid over $1,000 for blood tests and (I feel) an unnecessary xray in January for my cat. In addition, they refused to treat my indoor only cat unless he got another rabies vaccination (which he got there a year and a half before). They also didn't bother to tell me that these adjuvanted vaccines can cause cancer & death, and they do NOT carry the safe vaccines there. So they tell you the vaccine is safe, and they know it's not. My cat got a tumor from the vaccine, and needed surgery to remove it in March. Now it is April. They still have not approved the prescription diet that was only recommended to me in MARCH by the doctor who performed the surgery, as a result of the blood test results in JANUARY.
Now, I called to find out why Chewy cannot get an approval for the prescription food, and some young person who has no idea what she is doing just told me that the doctor who performed the surgery has left that practice and the it's at the "physician on call's discretion" as to whether my cat can get this food or not. So, 3 months later, my cat has had to go through surgery that would have not been necessary had they told me the adjuvanted rabies vax wasn't safe, and I have wasted $1,000 ++ on blood tests, urine tests and xrays so he can get prescription food they now won't give him. I'm one step away from calling a lawyer at this point.
Also the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. I will give the new practice manager a chance to call me first tomorrow though, before I make those calls. Although the girl on the phone said she doesn't know when the practice manager will be in! In addition, the last practice manager left the day after my surgical doctor did. This place is a circus. They are completely disorganized, and hire staff that isn't qualified to do the job. It really doesn't get any worse than this.

Our pet passed a month before our plan’s renewal, and despite our loss, Banfield hit us with a $500+ bill for routine wellness exams and vaccines we had already done. Instead of showing compassion, they kept us on hold for over an hour and refused to waive the charges, threatening to send us to collections if we didn’t pay. My complaint is with the total unacceptable way my pet Bella and I were treated when I called Banfield on November 6, 2024 at 8222 S. University Blvd, Littleton, CO. Bella was dying of kidney failure, she was in pain, and could not walk. We had been up all night with Bella, waiting for Banfield to open so we could call and get her in. Then we were told only one vet was working, and that I could leave her at the back door and return later, or bring her back in the late afternoon. I tried to explain that this is my companion! I could not just leave her at a back door to die. I had to be with her at her time of passing. I tried several times to get her in at no avail.
I finally gave up and took her to a 24-hour clinic, which was an elevated cost for the procedure because we did not have insurance with them. Here we have been customers of Banfield for over 24 years and have paid for Wellness Plans all these years, 12 years with Bella, only to find out that when she was at the end of life, she was not honored by the ones she put trust in to be there for her, in an environment that she was comfortable with. I believe there is a statement in your Wellness plan about Vets being there for your pet at the end of life, this should be removed because it obviously is false advertising! I have never heard of a Vet Service that flat refused not to take time to euthanize an animal that was dying. I asked to speak to the vet and they said that she was not available. They advised me to take my dog to the emergency vet hospital and or call the 800 hotline. Are there after googled combat and it said it was not harmful in the long run for my dog, but it could cause nausea and diarrhea. I requested that a vet call me immediately for which they did not. I did call the combat hotline and they said advised to monitor my dog and that she should be ok.

My dog has anxiety issues, and there is no way I'm dropping her off for a check-up. It's impossible to get an appointment at this place. Their online scheduling is useless. I am also suspicious of these drop-off visits they push. It seems like a way to bamboozle people into thinking their pet is getting the proper care.
I still have another 6 months to pay off on this wellness plan before it's cancelled. Banfield's whole business model is off of selling these plans to people. Another thing that annoyed me about this place is that I actually tried to get an appointment over the phone for another dog of mine, but the receptionist totally blew me off when I stated that the dog was 14 years old. It was 2 days before Christmas! At the airport I had to arrange for some to come get my dogs and look out for them until my return back. After complaining and questioning the staff they admitted to never even documenting on my pet's visit!! I work in the medical field and this is awful! I am truly disgusted with the kind of care and services provided at banfield. SCAM, be aware everything cost extra. They charge you the moment you walk in. Most of the times they treat your pet like a package: you drop off and pick up and the only chat with the assistant is about how much you owe them and what more they can charge you. I bet most of times they don’t even have a real doctor since I was never able to talk with him/her. My pets were extremely traumatized for a while after a dental service where they “lost” half of their teeth for not a good reason and without any authorization from my side. The little doggy had a “whole” in her arm that was too big for a simple needle. I couldn’t trust that them after that. My cat passed one month after enrolling in their insurance and even I let them know, they kept charging every month and never available to fix the situation. No worthy.

Please stay away from this place. For the record- I have 3 house cats, (all about 8 years old) and my place is almost “indecently” spotless clean at all times. One of my cats developed some type of rash and I took him for an appointment to Banfield Animal Hospital. This was end of COVID era, masks were no longer required but I was denied opportunity to enter the room where my cat met with the vet. I waited for 30 min, they prescribed 2 different medicine in form of pills (which, BTW, did not work!). Brought him home and a week later started seeing fleas all over my house! All 3 cats were now infected.
I went back to Banfield Hospital to buy medicine to fight the fleas. They sold me one pack (for the cat that was recently seen by a vet) and refused to sell me additional 2 packs for my other 2 cats, stating that I must bring them to see the vet and pay additional 2 visits.. Only then I could buy the medicine. Same situation happened to my neighbor that also took her dog there for a small issue - dog ended up infected with fleas!!! I am convinced that they are purposely infecting animals and hence the reason they do not want you in a room with your animals. Disgusting and this place should be checked and closed for malpractice!

Whenever I try to get his prescription filled at any source other than Banfield, it takes many days and many phone calls to convince Banfield that they are not going to wear me down and force me to purchase his prescription from them. I can get 12 months supply from all other sources other than Banfield for the price of 9 months supply at Banfield. We called twice and used their online portal to ensure our account was closed and no further charges would occur. Yet, months later, we discovered Banfield continued to charge us without our knowledge. When we reached out for answers, they claimed the charges were for services used before our dog’s passing—something that was never disclosed to us during any of our conversations.
This is not only shady but downright unethical. Losing a pet is already heartbreaking, and to exploit grieving pet owners with hidden charges is disgraceful. What’s worse is that no one seems to care. Despite multiple attempts to get clarity and resolve this, we’ve been met with excuses and no resolution. Banfield has shown they value profit over compassion and transparency.
Banfield’s behavior is an example of terrible business practices, and it’s morally wrong. They have lost a loyal customer forever, and I will be warning everyone I know about their lack of integrity. Claim: I am filing a complaint against Dr. Stephanie ** and the staff at Banfield Pet Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, for their insulting and condescending behavior towards me, a veteran, during my visit on November 23, 2024. Grounds: On November 23, 2024, at approximately 10:00 AM, I brought my six-week-old German Shepherd puppies to Banfield Pet Hospital for their first appointment. Upon arrival, I was met with disrespectful and condescending behavior from the staff, particularly Dr. Stephanie ** and the secretary. The secretary's attitude was dismissive and unprofessional, which led to a highly distressing experience.
Warrant: As a veteran, I expect to be treated with respect and professionalism, especially in a healthcare setting. Dr. Stephanie ** and the staff's behavior was not only unprofessional but also humiliating and insulting. This treatment is unacceptable and warrants a formal complaint. Backing: The incident was so distressing that I felt compelled to call the police for animal abuse, as I was accused of mistreating my puppies by carrying them by their harnesses from the car to the hospital foyer. This accusation was unfounded and added to the public humiliation I experienced.
Qualifier: While I understand that misunderstandings can occur, the behavior of the staff at Banfield Pet Hospital was beyond a simple misunderstanding. It was a clear display of disrespect and unprofessionalism that should not be tolerated. Rebuttal: I have been a loyal customer of Banfield Pet Hospital for years, and this recent experience has been the worst I have ever encountered. I am requesting that this matter be investigated thoroughly and that appropriate actions be taken to address the behavior of Dr. Stephanie ** and the staff involved.

I’ve had the unfortunate experience of losing two pets unexpectedly, both of which were covered under Banfield's insurance plan. While I’ve always been impressed with the compassionate care provided by Banfield’s doctors and staff, I am deeply disappointed by the policy that forces pet owners to continue paying for insurance on pets that are no longer alive.
For my first dog, I continued paying the insurance, as required by the contract, despite their passing. Recently, my second pet passed away, and I realized I’m still locked into payments for a policy that my dog can no longer use—payments that will continue until next August. This policy seems incredibly unfair and inconsiderate, especially given that in human health or life insurance, payments cease upon death.
In human life and medical insurance, when someone passes away, their family no longer has to continue paying premiums for that coverage. Why should pet owners be expected to continue paying for insurance when their pet has passed? It feels like Banfield is not considering the emotional and financial burden placed on grieving pet owners in these situations. It’s already painful to lose a beloved pet, but having to continue paying for insurance that no longer serves a purpose only adds to the burden. The policy feels dismissive of the grief and financial strain pet owners face in these situations.
That said, I want to emphasize that my experience with Banfield's doctors and staff has been nothing short of wonderful. They have been supportive, caring, and professional throughout both of my pets' care. Their dedication to providing excellent veterinary services is one of the reasons I have trusted Banfield with my pets’ health.
I just wish that the company would reconsider its insurance policy to better align with the compassion and empathy shown by the staff. Some flexible solutions, such as prorated cancellations, early termination without penalties, or offering credit toward future services, could go a long way in showing compassion for grieving pet owners. It would be a welcome change to see Banfield offer more understanding and flexibility in these situations, rather than continuing a policy that feels tone-deaf to the needs of its customers. I hope Banfield takes this feedback into consideration and works toward a more compassionate and fair approach for pet owners during such a difficult time.

Banfield business model is get paid then see the pet. They are understaffed and as others stated, it's almost impossible to have the same vet treat your pet. The staff are nice enough. Some do appear to care but it's run by a corporation. Care is secondary to payment. The wellness plan requires you to pay a full year whether services are rendered or not. They are more expensive than other vets. My dog goes to a neurologist for seizures, and they tried to get me to change medicines and follow their recommendations over the specialist.
Originally, I told the vet office to cancel the services and then I received a letter stating I am overdue for payment and my account is on hold. And if I do not pay, they will send it to a collection agency. Once it's on hold, you can't update the card online. So, I called and they said I wasn't authorized to make changes because the account was in my wife's name though the phone number and credit card is mine. *Long review.* I am very displeased with how my cats and I were treated by the Banfield staff members. We have been shown time after time that Banfield does not care about their patients, only that they are paid. This last instance has made me the most upset. Our kitten, Saga got spayed October 8th and we found out November 2nd that she had opened her stitches. I understand that it is our responsibility that she had opened her wound. However, we were told on November 3rd that she was going to need to be restitched that it could cost upwards of $2,000. We raised the funds of $1,100 that was needed to get her stitches done again. Three days after this on November 6th, her stitches had come undone again after following the care plan Banfield gave us.
I brought our invoice to Banfield to ask a few clarifying questions about the $1,100 that we had previously paid because that seemed fairly high just to get some stitches done. I called 7 other veterinarian hospitals in the area and they all told me a good estimate to get restitched in her condition was at the highest $600 give or take the severity. I brought this up to the technician and I was told “It’s cheap for a reason”. I then informed them that her stitches had come undone again and I was told to bring her back the following day (November 8th) to get MORE stitches or possibly staples.
My follow-up question was what do we do if we can not afford more stitches (the $1,100 charge took all we had), I was told to get a loan. I asked what to do if we got denied for the loan (which we had), they shrugged their shoulders and told me to try again. There was no other treatment plan offered to me other than stitches or staples. I am under the assumption that my cat would not get her wound fixed if I couldn’t come up with the outrageous price they would charge me for the second round of stitches because I was given no other options. I found a different veterinarian hospital and they gave me FOUR different treatment plans all with pricing up front.
After paying my monthly wellness plan, paying for any extra medicine, and paying the $1,100 to restitch my cat, that did not even last 3 days, I was told on November 8th that in order to cancel my wellness plan I owed $1,170. After sending a complaint email, a staff member called me on November 9th to inform me that it was only $357.75 to cancel Saga’s wellness plan. They could not give me the actual number to cancel all 3 plans I had with them. They also did not address any concerns I raised other than the money I owed them, proving to me once again that they only cared about the money. Banfield is taking advantage of people who trusted them with their pets. They do not give straight answers, do not offer sound advice, and price gouge everything. I do not recommend Banfield by any means.

Banfield Pet Hospital. Crooks and not very smart. I took my dog in with symptoms of diarrhea, which he has had on and off throughout his 7 years. Dogs get into stuff, and every time it clears up with a round of **. The tech said they wanted to run a CPL test (CPL measures pancreas specific lipase). I said, not necessary, even if he pops high, it doesn't change the course of treatment. Tech said she would run it by the vet. She came back to say, Vet said they "had to test". So, they take blood and run the test. The tech comes back and says, "Yep, Vet said he has pancreatitis". I looked at the report and it just says "abnormal", no CPL value was listed. I asked what the value was because NO ONE can accurately diagnosis pancreatitis without a true value. ANY competent DVM or MD knows this.
I told the tech, that would be like a human patient going to a medical doctor and having blood work drawn and the MD returns and tells them they have diabetes, but they don't have a blood glucose level or an A1C level. Maybe that patient is on steroids or has an active infection, both elevate blood glucose levels. Many things elevate test results, and many things elevate CPL. There must be an absolute value given, and a provider cannot accurately dx pancreatitis from an abnormal/normal reading. This isn't a pregnancy test for Pete's sake.
Also, I also shared with the tech, CPL has a wide range, under 200ug/l clear, between 200-400ug/l is inconclusive, over 400 ug/l is more consistent with a diagnosis of pancreatitis. The tech had no response to logic and medical truth because when you're running a scam, you can't defend your actions. Regardless, a bogus $98.57 lab test fee, that, like I told them at the beginning, did not change the course of treatment....still a round of **. Further, they charged me $67.95 for an office visit and I never saw the vet once. Scam. Incompetent. Dishonest. Hundreds of poor reviews don't lie.

They told us we needed to pay the insurance for the remainder of the year or at least five more months and an additional cancellation fee. How greedy is that? We have been customers since our dog was a month old puppy and we never missed any payments. Instead of being compassionate during a difficult time, they choose to charge us money and make this a more difficult time. Now I have to figure out how to pay their fees and the ER fees, while grieving the loss of our dog. Save yourself the frustration and find a facility that truly cares about your dog.

Horrible service in the last few years. I just kept the insurance because my dog was important to me but the several times I had emergencies the doctors were so cold and after so many years paying for this insurance....the doctor was not even kind enough to answers my call herself...she delivered messages through the front desk lady. On top of everything when I call to ask to end my contract because my dog passed away.. I was charged a whole year of service that I won't even need.... should even deal with animals if you can't be human enough to care for others.

We NEVER saw the vet today. Our dog was taken to the back and the tech came in and spoke with us. What?? What did we pay for?? Why?? This is the second time this has happened. This is at the 24th St and Baseline location, Phoenix. I will NEVER come back here, I will NEVER recommend this money grabbing place to anyone. Pet owners are not “open wallets". We care about our fur babies and just want honest, COMPASSIONATE CARE!

I have been a Banfield Pet Hospital customer and Banfield Wellness Plan holder for over 10 years. I will never use either services again. Unfortunately, my dog was euthanized this week. The vet staff provided me with a number to call to have my wellness plan discontinued. They specifically said "Do not say cancel or they will keep charging you, say you do not wish to renew and then you won't have to make any further payments". I called the billing office and found that I would be required to either pay a lump sum or continue making monthly payments until March 2025.
I called the vet office the next day to clarify and was told that I would in fact have to continue making payments and there was nothing they could do for me. I find it very disturbing that I would be intentionally misled and just plain immoral that a company would continue to charge me after the pet's death despite being a customer of 10+ years and thousands of dollars of loyal business to the company.

I do not recommend taking your pet to Banfield Pet Hospital. I took my cat in because she was not drinking or urinating. They did an evaluation, then put her in a cage for 4 hours to urinate. They said they also tried some other procedure, but didn’t get anything because her bladder was too small. They suggested giving her an antibiotic shot and bring her back the next day to try again. All of this was relayed by the tech. The vet didn't talk to me. When the office staff called to check on her the next day, I asked to speak with the vet as I had questions about the notes she sent home related to weight, dental, gum, and skin issues. I was told that the vet didn't see a need to talk to me until I brought her back for another urinalysis. I won’t be going back to Banfield with any of my animals. I will be taking them to vet who has time to discuss my questions about my pet's health.

Been with Banfield for years with our dog. There were fraudulent charges on my credit card so we cancelled it. Didn't realize Banfield was a standard charge that hit the card. Banfield did not call us, email us, tell us there was a problem at the clinic, nor send information to us by mail. They sent our plan charges to collections. They would not reinstate the plan even after we were willing to pay. We do not have delinquent accounts with anyone and have excellent credit. They refused to work with us in any way. So, they have lost a customer and a recommendation. They are a corporate machine and do the minimum possible to ensure great customer care.

Scam place. I had to pay 1200 just for membership which covers my cat being neutered - other hospitals can cost around 100 - 200. Population control. It is important to neuter a female cat before she can have kittens herself. This happens very quickly depending on breed, time of year born and individual development. The first season usually occurs around six months but can be earlier. Queens can have up to three litters in a year.

I am a current Banfield customer, and recently, my pet suffered an injury that required immediate medical attention. We took her to an emergency clinic, where she was diagnosed with a fracture. She was splinted, fitted with a head cone, and we were told she would need 4-6 weeks to heal. We were then advised to bring her to our local vet for follow-up care. It's now been about 7 weeks, during which we’ve made 4 trips to the vet for bandage changes, an X-ray, and there’s yet another bandage change and X-ray scheduled. Each visit comes with a hefty price. What was initially expected to take 4-6 weeks now seems to be stretching to 9-11 weeks. Each visit lasts about 30 minutes and costs over $150, with X-rays alone running more than $350.
We’re starting to feel like these appointments are being scheduled just to keep us coming back for the sake of revenue. For example, they’ll change the bandage and then schedule an X-ray just days later—something that could easily be done in the same visit. We love our pet and will do whatever it takes to ensure her recovery, but it’s becoming clear that this practice feels more like a business focused on profits rather than genuinely caring for her well-being. We feel it may be time to start looking for a vet service that prioritizes compassionate care over making money. Is this normal? Are we the only ones feeling like this is what Banfield has turned into?

I have been taking my dog to Banfield for 7 years in Chelmsford, MA. Never had issues but recently had to take my dog to the Salem, NH on South Broadway, they were great, treated her issue and recommended I take her there for care. So I schedule her Comprehensive exam for a drop off at 930am. I get a call that I had to reschedule as they don't do drop offs at 930 and had to do 830am. So I show up to location at 835am, no one was at desk, I waited 5 minutes, tech comes out, said I'm checking in for drop off and she said your late, need to cancel. I said for 5 minutes?? She said it's 840am. I explained it was there and she wasn't so no it's 5 minutes.
She continues to tell me she had to cancel because I was 5 minutes late. She went to the back and checked with Dr. ** and came back again saying she had to reschedule. I said you wasted more time canceling my appt than just taking her at 835am. No one was waiting, it was a drop off and they would have had all day to do the exam. Not sure how this is reasonable. I was never told about this cancelation policy, nowhere does it state if late 5 min in canceled. This is unreasonable! She could have said, I can let the 5 min slide since it was my first time in 7 years and new location for us and said next time don't be 5min late or out will be canceled, but she didn't even give me a chance.

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE!!! Banfield Falls Church continues to scam us and they put our dog's health in jeopardy, and in my opinion it's borderline malpractice! For our teeth cleaning last year, we had elevated liver enzymes and treated it; then during our comprehensive exam we got a clean bill of health and the vet told us to make a teeth cleaning appointment for two weeks after the exam, and guess what? Elevated liver enzymes just two weeks with no changes in anything diet or otherwise. At best, this vet is inept and at worst she missed a significant finding in our "comprehensive" exam. We are leaving and going to a new vet. This place is a scam. Beware of paperwork!!! They will tell you you are signing one thing, but what's actually written is different. If you do go here at your own peril, just make sure you read every word before you sign.

Took my dog in on Saturday. Dr. ** drew liquid from a mass on his side to send to the lab. Monday night I left a pretty frantic voice mail pleading for a call back. The mass is now bigger, red, and extremely painful to the touch. My dog cannot stand up and has been urinating and defecating where he lies, prone on the floor. I cannot bring him in. He weighs 37 lb and he is in pain, cannot lift nor carry him. Left all this information on the Voicemail. They have now been open for 2.5 hours but have yet to call back. It’s clear my dog is not their priority. Would counsel against going to the DC Adams Morgan Banfield vet.

El Paso Texas: I took my little one in for check up and dental and was charged 330+ which I thought was covered in the wellness plan but wasn't. Beforehand, I had other pets taken there for a dental and it was covered, but that was a few years ago, but I guess they are now in the money making business and not pet care.
Some of these so called vets need their licenses revoked for not caring about the wetness of a pet rather than making quotas. Back to my story, when I got her back, she was in pain and noticed hair patch missing. I should of looked deeper but they get into little spats at home with her the other sisters so I thought it was that. I called them the next day and was just told it was probably a reaction to the meds plus I guess scripted response to phone call questions.
To this day, I have tried canceling the plan and just told that I have to continue to pay until the end of that cycle to renew and then I could do so. I still feel so bad putting my little one through that that I still wake up crying at night just thinking of it and this was over 7 months ago. I now feel so afraid of taking them to any vets cause of that experience and I don't think I will ever trust a vet fully. I can't even leave my little one alone with vets cause I am so paranoid.
I know there are great vets out there but my fear and trauma is so deep, I can't imagine how my pet must feel. I see her anxiety and fear of other people so I kinda feel her trauma. I will never forgive myself for taking her there. Plus the Pets mart was very dirty with the air conditioning vents dirts having dust collected on the vent air intakes. For having a pet surgeries there, very unsanitary and unsafe. User's recommendation: Stay away from Banfield and if you can, report the Vet and the facility to your state's Vet Licensing board.

On Saturday, September 6, 2024, one of our fur babies had a preventive care appointment at Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 7947 Parramore Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32244. Unfortunately, the care and treatment of our fur baby did not seem to be a priority for the staff. We waited in the room for over 30 minutes without being informed of any delays or given any acknowledgment of when we would be seen. Additionally, a family and their fur baby, who arrived and checked in after us, were seen promptly. Even if the patient in the room next to us was an emergency, we should still have been informed of any delays or at least notified that we were next in line.
After waiting patiently for over 30 minutes and having my other fur baby and daughter waiting in the car for an extended period, we were disappointed with the lack of communication and consideration. We approached the front counter to inform them that we were canceling our appointment due to the extensive time we had spent in the room without acknowledgment. The staff seemed more concerned with ensuring that our appointment was a wait rather than a drop-off. Perhaps focusing on customer service and the care of Khloe would be more beneficial than worrying about the type of appointment we had.
Now, any potential care or treatment Khloe may have needed is delayed, which feels like a form of veterinary practice negligence. Considering Banfield withdraws the payment for both our fur babies faithfully each month, I do not feel confident that my fur babies will receive the care and professionalism they need for future appointments.

I want to express the terrible experience I had with this clinic and Dr. ** Who was apparently responsible for my cat's care. I dropped off my 9 month old kitten at the clinic as she was having severe symptoms. She was lethargic, hiding, not eating and in overall distress. I made it clear to the staff she was unwell. Later, I received a call to inform me that she was in good health and they claimed her breathing was fine, her heart sounded good and they saw no concerns with her health. I insisted to run more tests and That I was sure she was not well considering I am around her at all times and she was very obviously not in good shape.
I was charged $500 for the visit on top of having insurance through them, not even one hour after picking her up my cats condition worsened I had to rush her to the emergency animal hospital Where she was diagnosed with fluid in her lungs and a blood clot in her heart within 24 hours my cat passed away. She was only nine months old. I feel that Dr. ** is not a Dr. And couldn’t care less about our pets conditions. If you love your pet do not risk going here, it’s not worth losing your baby over.

So like business you have good and bad employees. My dog has been with Banfield for over 10 years and in that time he has done well, until recently his health has developed in such a way that he can no longer be placed under Anesthesia. So the wellness plus plan that he is under covers dental cleaning. But unfortunately he can no longer receive the dental cleaning since his heart can not handle Anesthesia. When I try to modify his wellness plan by removing the dental. I am informed that in order to do this I have to pay off a balance of $375.00. To start a new 12 month contract. Even though being with this company for so many years. So now I am forced to continue to pay for a service that he can no longer use.
I till the renew date and either renew to the lower option or cancel the account and get him seen by a veterinary facility not affiliated with banfield. And just get pet insurance on him. It may cost more upfront but at least I and my dog won't be controlled by a company that has zero loyalty to its customers who have been with them for over a decade. I would never suggest this place to anyone who loves their pets.
