I called to schedule an emergency visit due to my pet is getting worse even with the medications they gave me for my pet. I asked if I can bring him in today due to that he’s not eating or drinking and they said they had no availability. Receive no sympathy whatsoever from the person on the phone. Made me feel that I had no hope for my pet so I asked what can I do to put him down out of his misery. They call back to schedule an appointment for that but not to help him. This is the worse place ever. They use to be kind and had great staff. Not anymore.

I have a wellness plan with Banfield for my two dogs, a mix breed and AKC German Shepherd 3 month old puppy! My puppy injured his paw at 6:30 this morning when getting out of his crate to go potty. It is now almost 1pm. I called Banfield, explained my puppy was limping, holding his paw in the air, I’ve iced it and kept him resting and he is still hurting!! I was told the vet, Alton **, was not taking anymore patients today!!! Oh, I could DROP him off tomorrow morning! Or call around to other Banfield locations!! I WILL NOT DROP my puppy OFF!! I will be with him!! I want to know EXACTLY what is being done to my puppy!
I’m outraged, I am aware of my being responsible for the entire wellness plan or I would cancel it now for both my pets!! My puppy is injured!!! I have no idea if it’s a strain or a break, and I’m told HE IS NOT taking anymore patients today!!! In retrospect for his complete FIRST exam no bloodwork was even done!! This was the same vet!! My puppy and my four year old WILL NOT be seen by this vet again!! In fact I will be changing the location for their continued care. Denying care to my puppy is not acceptable. Cheryl **

Absolutely SCAM SCAM SCAM. They just rip you off in making unnecessary tests and unnecessary expenses. They took a lot of money from me and wanted to hospitalize my cat, one night $1500. I didn't accept it. Went to another vet. It came out that my cat suffers from his tongue and the cure was very simple. They are not animal lovers. I don't believe in that when I see all the other reviews as well. If they would like they wouldn't let him suffer for 3 days. In the billing it says they did dental check, which I don't believe they did because they could see it then, it was huge on his tongue. I don't know how but why is this place not sued?

Do not trust your pet to them.! They sent my fur brother home only for him to die a terrible death less than 12 hours of leaving an appointment. AFTER I asked them was he suffering and should I put him to sleep? I was told that he was not at that point, that the meds and diet change should work. I paid over $600 and purchased the suggested dog food. I hope you see this before you take your fur family member.

I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible team at the Banfield Newport News location. Recently, my beloved dog, Louis got out of my arms and ran out of the building and went missing, and I was devastated. From the moment Louis took off, the doctor and her staff went above and beyond. They immediately sprang into action, and also kept me informed of everywhere Louis went. To my utter relief and joy, they finally caught him. They didn’t just stop at searching— Their compassion and determination during such a stressful time were extraordinary. It’s clear that their commitment to animals goes far beyond standard care; they genuinely care about their well-being and their families.
When I arrived back at Banfield, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. The team’s relief was as palpable as my own, and their support throughout the ordeal was incredible. They ensured that Louis was checked over thoroughly and provided reassurance and advice to help him recover from the stress of his big adventure. Banfield Clinic is more than just a veterinary office; it is a community of caring professionals who make a profound difference in the lives of pets and their owners. I am endlessly thankful for their quick action, compassion, and unwavering dedication.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Maryland City Laurel. Maryland really do suck. My Fur baby who's 10 years old was put on pain medication to help her Arthritis, and was told by the doctor that this is medication that she's gonna be on for the rest of her life. This is now the second time that I go to get her medication and there are no refills on it. The doctor does she have seen since the doctor came there? It's off and won't be there for about 4 days. The other doctors who could look at her chart and see that everything's current Refuses to do it so my baby has to suffer, because this place doesn't care. For me this place has gone down. All they care about is the wellness plans.

I really should have looked at all the reviews from different sites about Banfield first before making any rash decisions but at the time, my cat was pretty sick, vomiting and was unable to keep any food down. The vet I normally would take my cat to (mind you, he's received vaccines he needed from there) however his vet is elderly and was constantly getting sick so unfortunately I had to take him somewhere else. I took him to Banfield. To do an xray and other tests he would need was going to be over $700 something so they told me about the wellness plan and how I can "save money" and of all the benefits. Dumb me thought would be good and save money, just $48.55 a month. Well somehow it got raised to $68 a month and I still had to pay out of pocket for his vaccines that they claimed he was missing, and medicines.
Also my cat was actually fine, turned out he just had a food allergy so I had to switch his diet and he had some ear mites. Fast forward 3 months later and my son got injured playing at school and now I have to pay his medical bill and since my cat has been healthy and i'm just going to go back to his usual vet in the future, I decided may be best I cancel his plan, just pay for the current services he already received. Well turns out that regardless I still have to pay for the whole year, and even if lets say my cat suddenly dies oh well, I still would have to continue paying apparently.
I tried to work something out with the lady on phone but best I could do was pay $17.60 so it would lower my monthly costs to $48 again.. what I had to pay $17 for? She said for vaccines however nowhere on the profile does it say I owed $17 or for what, I got a receipt emailed however I would prefer an itemized one so I can know for sure it specifically went towards vaccines even though I paid at his last visit. This company is nothing but scammers.

The value of thier wellness plan is zero. Another way to just make extra money every month. No constant clinician is assigned to your pet. No actual post-care follow-up anymore. They misdiagnosed our pet initially and she ended up getting diabetes from their poor diagnosis and passed away 8 months later.

I showed up to drop off my cat for a comprehensive exam and dental cleaning. No hello or anything from the receptionist. She just asked, "are you dropping off (cat's name)?" without looking up. So that was strike one. Like, "first of all, good morning!" Anyway, normally the vet calls after an exam to let me know how the cleaning went, how they're coming off anesthesia, etc, but nothing from this guy. I showed up an hour before they close to pick up my cat either way. Never saw the vet. Other vets that work at this location would come out to explain how things went, pointing things out on my bill, etc., nothing from this guy. When I brought my cat out, he didn't even have a bandage over the catheter site (because I'm pretty sure a catheter never went in). I think they just trimmed my cat claws, shaved his paw, then left him in the carrier until it was time for me to pick him up, filling in the notes on the invoice as necessary.
I inspected my cats arm up and down. No catheter site, and he is certainly not behaving as if he is coming off anesthesia. When I asked whether or not, I would get a printout, they said, "it will all be in your email." I never received the email, and the MyBanfield site isn't exactly clear and forthcoming. Did I just get ripped off, Banfield? Aside from him being there that day, there's nothing on the site about what they actually did with him.
Even if I am wrong about all of this, everything about the experience makes it sound like when I used to work in a restaurant, and cooks used to cover for the alcoholic chef who came in late. It was a professional business version of a child not wanting to face a parent because they're lying. I am off to examine whether or not I can terminate my wellness plan before its normal expiration, but I get the feeling I'm locked in until then. Either way, I think I just took my cats to that hospital for the last time. Do you see an injection site in the attached photo?

If I could give zero stars I would. Mars Inc. is only out to make a profit at the expense of your pet. Every time I bring my dog in, they try to upsell add on services such as anal glands, or nail trimming. They herd your pet in like cattle, and crate them all day until an overworked veterinarian has time to see them. It is difficult to make an appointment where you can bring your pet in and stay with them. Your pet is traumatized enough having to go to the vet, and then they want them to sit in a crate all day waiting to be seen.
If you need your pet seen right away for an urgent problem, they don't have openings. I called multiple locations because my dog had excessive vomiting, and no one could get him in. I'm not sure what the point is of paying a monthly fee if they don't have time to see your pet. I was hoping for the savings on office visits and services, but if they can't see your pet, there is no savings. They happily continue to take your money if your pet passes away, but they don't reimburse you if you have to go elsewhere because they don't have time to see your pet.

Had a scheduled visit. I was early but taken in quickly and taken to private room for exam. Remarkably clean facility. Taken in by Abbey **, a skilled front desk person. I had all records for my dog which were scanned into their system. Pet was seen initially by Lisa who spent time treating pet with love and getting down on floor with him. Then Jennifer **, DVM came in and gave pet a very thorough exam. Vaccines were administered rapidly without a sound from pet who was never in any distress. All in all, a very pleasant and well skilled staff who performed in a very professional manner throughout the process. I would recommend them without reservation.

Conyers location - Sam the team lead.. rude, indifferent and condescending. I've spent over $500 the past month and I am ON a wellness plan. I went through the Banfield app for a virtual visit. Absolutely no help whatsoever. I was speaking with someone who "BY LAW" can't advise me. What is the point of having virtual visits if it is with a vet tech who again BY LAW can't advise anything but to bring my baby in. I am reiterating "BY LAW" because the tech must've said it to me a dozen times. So I bring my baby in and after 200.00+ I left with **. The same ** that would've cost 10 bucks at my local pharmacy.
Never-The-Less, 3 weeks later was my baby's wellness visit. The nurse calls to advise my baby needs ear drops, anal glands expressed and heartworm medication. Another 200+ bill. Also, I find out the monthly charge of $12.20 I've been paying (in additional to the wellness plan) for heartworm medication is only good for a 6 month supply. So for the next 6 months I still pay $12.20 automatically for heartworm medication AND have to buy it from the vet for another $50-60 bucks every month. This is absolutely predatory by Banfield and the MARS corporation. Lastly, We have been to this location 4-5 times and has yet to meet the vet that's caring for my baby, Every time a ask, the vet is in with other pets or in surgery or this or that. It's always an excuse. I wish I would've read the reviews before joining this CASH COW.

This is the worst "professional" experience of my life. My dog wasn't limping at all until the day he had his checkup at Banfield. It progressed into what they called a brachial plexus injury, which is when nerves have been injured. Well, they were injured alright, and logic says by someone at Banfield, because he didn't have a limp until he was seen there. They just kicked me out of there today because I was cursing and the techs and vets can't deal with someone who is upset and has real concerns and they go boo-hooing to their boss. I see they're at 1.14 stars on here and 1.1 on consumeraffairs.com. Yikes! Now I know why. A fabulous vet who used to work there and saw my pet for a few years left, and told me the reason they left is because upper and middle management have no clue, that they hire the worst people because they're cheap and don't want to spend money, and that the office they worked in, the one I've been going to, was a shambles.
This place has been the worst nightmare of my life. My dog might be permanently injured because of some dumb-as-a-bag-of-hammers tech at Banfield. Go nowhere near this outfit. They are the most unprofessional entity I've ever run across. Run, run the other direction. Spend the money and get a real vet. I'm not sure how they stay in business. If this site allowed zero stars, Banfield would probably be less than .5, maybe even really close to zero.

How is this place able to operate! Our family pet had to be put down by an emergency vet, not related to Banfield. The Doctor on duty reviewed the medical records and stated that they (banfield) should have caught the issue. Her red blood cell count was dropping because of an infection. And Banfield completely missed. Because of that our little angel is now an angel. Upon calling Banfield and explaining that we want to cancel her plan, we are told that we still have to pay on this plan even though they are the reason our cat is no longer with is. Way to make a difficult situation more traumatic. I'm posting everywhere I can to get this place shut down or seriously revamped. Just look at the well over 2000 reviews and see... 1.1 rating. BBB where are you.

They will continue to charge you for a Wellness Plan even after your pet passes away. I would never recommend this to anyone. Go to your locally owned vet and be treated with decency. I feel absolutely taken advantage of—my dog passed away last month, yet I am still being billed monthly for a plan that I cannot use. This is on top of the additional out-of-pocket expenses I had to cover for services at the time of her passing.

I took my cat to one of these Banfield hospital at PetSmart store in Orlando area for itching his face and ears and runny eyes. That was my big mistake. As soon as the doctor starting to examine my cat, he started talking about fleas and mosquitoes and tapeworms. I told him this cat is indoor pet, away from any other animals and never had issues with fleas or any other bugs inside my place for last few years. But this dr. didn't want to listen to any information I gave, and he kept pushing medication for flea control and other medication. I told him he doesn’t need any flea control med, but he added this Revolution Plus flea medication to the list of other medication.
When I realized, I went back to return the Flea med that I told the doctor I didn’t want but they refused to take it back and refund me for it. Now I know at this pet hospital they are more concern about upselling the visit invoice more than the real health care that your pet needs. I have been a pet owner for many years with multiple of different pets, and I have done a lots of pet shopping needs at PetSmart store. Not anymore!!!

Avoid Banfield's wellness plans. They inflate the costs of their services, and the "discounts" you get with the plans are still more expensive than reputable vets charge. And when your pet dies, you are still charged the remainder of the plan or they back charge you for the services that your pet received. It's impossible to get to the company's customer care department or to their leadership. Also, they sold our information without our consent to a third-party company - dog's Cemetery.

It started when we first got our plan. First visit after purchasing the plan for our pet all of what I consider standard pet shots and recommended Banfield Pet requirements for our Pet were all additional. Every visit minimum was 150-300 out of pocket for recommended shots or medicine recommended from Banfield Vet. Nothing ever covered by plan! Just recently in May I called in to cancel my contract from any further monthly charges and any automatic renewals as our pet is no longer with us and the CS Rep handled all my concerns following month automatic charges continued. I called back in and the CS rep that placed me on hold for more than 45 minutes will not pick up the line as I was asking all the right questions that are in their system to tell me, "Sorry that the previous Rep didn't explain that you will still be charged the remainder of your contract for outstanding services provided!"
I asked, "What services everything I always paid for out of pocket as the plan didn't cover services provided other than the visit. Show me the breakdown of what I used on the plan to explain better what will be outstanding as my pet hasn't been to the vet since 4 months prior." He stuttered and he place me on hold and basically didn't want to deal with my concerns! At the time of contract Banfield never explained early termination Policies. Employees explained I could cancel at any time unless there were outstanding services performed which in my case there was nothing. This plan doesn't cover anything. They suggest for requirements to my pet. I will never ever ever ever recommend this plan or contract or Banfield services. It's all a scam of what they cover and don't cover not you wouldn't know ahead of time unless you were a Vet yourself asking all the questions regarding coverage! Complete Scam.

I was with Banfield Pet Hospital for years, easily over 10 years. We had an amazing doctor at the MP location. Not only was the doctor amazing, but the staff was as well. Sadly, my fur-babies' doctor left after many years, and that is when MP went downhill. Not only did the doctor leave, majority of the staff did as well. The new shift manager, she is useless, and has no clue what she is doing. I had one nurse argue with me when I corrected her on a medication she tried to give my dog- a medication my dog is allergic to. The corporate portion have no clue about the rapport we, the clients build with the doctor and staff. I lost 3 fur-babies in a year, due to age, and my fur babies entire nursing staff, came in the room with me and said their goodbyes to my fur babies. They cried with me, and supported me. Corporate doesn't care about that- they just think money.
I also think it is ridiculous that they make you keep the plan your pet's on, after your pet has passed. I'm paying for a pet that I no longer have- again monetary for BPH, constant trauma for us. I refused to renew my pup's plan after 8 years of having one- I realized it is a waste of money. What do you save in the long run? NOTHING?? I dished out 43.95/month for 8 years and she went to the vet twice a year. My fault for keeping it for so long- If our doctor did not leave, I would have stayed. She was miserable as was the staff because of Banfield Corporate-can't blame her for leaving. It's just a shame, it's hard to find a good veterinarian like her.

Our 9-year-old Lab, was on Banfield’s “wellness plan” since June 2015. During her routine “wellness checkup” in January a lump was “accidentally” found on her throat. I was quoted an outrageous price for X-rays. I called some other Vets and was told X-rays would not reveal the issue, an MRI was the better way to go. The MRI revealed the growth has invaded the thyroid gland and is too large to be removed. I blame Banfield pet hospital for paying more attention to whether or not the anal gland needs to be expressed for an additional fee, rather than thoroughly checking the animal to locate any newly developing growths or tumors that can be nipped in the bud.
Oh wait, it “gets better,” my plan was scheduled to renew mid-June, I canceled the plan and made the final monthly payment in May. They did not cancel my plan and charged my credit card for the first installment of a new 12-month billing cycle for a dog who is not meant to be with us much longer. Please do not take your pet to Banfield or get the Optimum Wellness plan! I am telling you this to save you money and your pet's life. Here is my experience with them in Orchard Park and Amherst NY. I have been taking my dog to Banfield in both Orchard Park NY and Amherst NY since last year. In September 2023, I took her in for an emergency because she was coughing consistently and was diagnosed with a "collapsed trachea". She is a small 5lb dog. I administered both medications that were prescribed which was an antibiotic and cough suppressant. She continued to pant heavily and cough for almost a month after that.
She had the same symptoms on Sunday May 19th, 2024 and I called to get her an emergency appointment on Monday May 20th at Banfield in Orchard Park but there were no available appointments until the next day. I tried calling the location on Niagara Falls Blvd in Amherst NY but as always no one answered the phone after trying for approximately 3 hours. Because she looked as though she was in distress, I took her to an emergency vet. The veterinarian came in and listened to her heart and said "I assume you know about her heart murmur". I said no, no one ever told me she had a heart murmur.
She has had several "wellness exams" at both the Orchard Park and Amherst NY locations. The emergency vet took X-rays and saw that she was in the early stages of congestive heart failure. They administered her emergency medication and provided three medications for me to give her twice a day for the near future. She was back to eating, drinking, and playing the next day. If I wouldn't have taken her to the emergency vet, my dog would have died. Banfield never caught that she had a hear murmur or was in congestive heart failure back in September. PLEASE whatever you do, please take your pet to another veterinarian. They won't let me cancel the Wellness plan and stated I would have to pay $478 to cancel. What a joke and a total scam! They do this because they know people love their pets and would do anything for them and they are taking full advantage of people's love for their animals.

Your location. Banfield Pet Hospital 6216 US-30, Greensburg, PA 15601 Veterinarian ** 1090 points. 5 minutes ago. 1st off, I have a 4 year old German Shepherd... If I could use 0 stars I would. This is a horrible place to take your pet. I initially took her in at the beginning of the year for a hot spot. The medication they gave her initiated an eye infection too, which cleared up on its own. Soon after she developed a horrible ear infection. The vet had her on the same medication for a few months with absolute no results. 3 times I received the same medicine. The vet finally said it could be her diet and recommended a very expensive dog food. (I home cook my dog's food with chicken, rice and vegetables. It's fresh and healthy for her. There is nothing wrong with her diet.) I finally went to another vet, they gave her medicine in the ear and it cleared the infection up within a week. I haven't had any issues with her ears since.
Banfield pushes the wellness program insurance to help "save you money". As part of that program, they include flea and tick treatment which is Semparica Trio. They kept telling me how great it is and how their pets love it. Just a simple treat once a month. That medication is causing my dog to have seizures now. She had another one last night. When I called Banfield this morning to get copies of her records, I mentioned about last night's seizure and they never asked how she was, do I need to schedule an appointment or anything!!! They don't care about your pet!!! I would not recommend them to anyone that loves their pet.

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the veterinary care my Golden Doodle, Benny, received at the Main St branch in Fairfax, VA. During our visit on May 7th, 2024, my pet was treated by Dr. Lamb for allergy-related symptoms and an ear infection. Dr. Lamb and Dr. Edwards recommended a Cytopoint Injection, asserting it would be more beneficial and effective for Benny's allergies than the oral option, despite its higher cost. Dr. Lamb mentioned that this treatment would likely need to be administered only once a year to minimize the recurrence of allergy symptoms. For the ear infection, Dr. Lamb prescribed antibiotic ear drops and advised maintaining a regular cleaning routine.
Regrettably, one month after this visit, and following the completion of the antibiotic course/allergy shots Benny began to exhibit the same, if not worsened, symptoms. Upon contacting the hospital, Dr. Edwards stated that worsening symptoms were expected and suggested additional lab tests and medications, which would incur further costs. Given the significant amount I had already spent, I requested that these additional treatments be provided at no extra charge. Dr. Edwards declined, insisting that any further care would not be free of charge.
This response is unacceptable, considering the initial treatment failed to improve my pet's condition. The financial and emotional toll of repeated visits and ineffective treatments is considerable. As a result, I feel compelled to inform you and the wider public about my experience. I request a full refund of the expenses incurred for the ineffective treatment or, alternatively, a re-evaluation and effective treatment of Benny at no additional cost. I hope we can resolve this issue promptly to prevent further distress for Benny and ensure better care for other pets in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response. Sincerely, Nissim V

My wife and I just visited Banfield Pet Hospital where Stephanie ** DVM and Vet-Tech Jasmine ** VT/VA for an allergy shot for our doggie and anal gland expression. The Vet-Tech did the anal gland expression and said there was nothing to express when she squeezed the gland. But, later that day my dog started to have issues with her anal glad and her butt became super inflamed and red. My dog was then in a lot of pain and there was a bloody discharge.
So today, we took our dog back to Banfield Pet Hospital and saw Stephanie ** who said this situation was totally unrelated to my dog's issue. She continued to say there was a zero percent chance that it was caused from anything they did while expressing the anal glands. I find that really hard to believe since my dog had no issue until she went to Banfield Hospital. Stephanie was very rude and capricious and started yelling at me saying that it was a total coincidence and they did absolutely nothing to to cause any of these issues.
I feel that was completely unethical of Stephanie ** to completely dismiss any possibility that they caused any of the issues my dog is dealing with now. My poor doggie is in so much pain, she cant sit down, has difficulty going poop now and this all started within hours of our visit. Her but is completely red and there is a huge knot where her anal gland is. My doggie was completely fine before the visit, we had the anal glad expressed because it was recommended.
The fact that this doctor completely shut me down with my questions and decided it was necessary to get upset with me and stormed out of the office because she didn't like my questions is very unethical as well. I am immediately changing to a new veterinarian, and will never go back to Banfield Pet Hospital again for anything. I do not trust them, and I am writing this so other people are aware of this doctor's unethical conduct. If you are like me, and love your pets, avoid this doctor and this office.

I understand no circumstances will recommend Banfield. They are only helpful with preventive care (shot and flea & tick meds). They are very overpriced for the service they can provide. On top of it all once they administer that first round of shots you are locked into a 12 month contract. God forbid your fur-baby pass away. They don’t care. They want their money. I had my babies on a plan with them for 9 year. I truly thought I was doing the right thing until one of them got sick with cancer. Banfield was absolutely no help at all! I repeat BANFIELD WAS ABSOLUTELY NO HELP AT ALL! They did just enough to make me owe them for 11 more months. Let me not fail to mention that the service they provided came from an outside source and I was out of pocket $100’s of dollars.

They shouldn’t have waited so long if they couldn’t do anything for my boy. Banfield is a crock! I have tried using Banfield for over 15 years. I keep going back because they are national and it's nice to have an account that will travel with me. But I just can't do it anymore. The Dr's are decent, but it's apparent that they are held back from being great by all the policies and upsells they have to do. I've had numerous techs tell me, after the Dr leaves, that I can use over the counter such and such for the same results; and it's 10x cheaper than what they try to sell you.
The Optimum Wellness Plans are ridiculous too! I brought my puppy in at 8 weeks old, signed up for the Early Care plan (without the spay), and then six months later decided to upgrade to the Care + plan to include the spay procedure. We were told that the plan would be upgraded and we would only be charged for the difference in plans for the remaining 6 months. Well...that's not what happened. They signed us up for a whole new plan! How does that make sense? Everything in the Early Care plan is in the Early Care + plan except for the additional spay/neuter fees.
So this past week, we go into our neighborhood Banfield to schedule her dental cleaning which is in the next plan, the Active Care + plan. That's when they told us our Early Care + plan doesn't end until November of this year and then we can move up to the Active + plan which includes the Dental. This does not make sense!
They are essentially telling us that we forfeited the first 6 months of payments for the Early Care plan. That it doesn't matter if we already received all the puppy shots...yadda yadda...and that when we upgraded to the Early Care + plan (only for the spay add-on) everything started over, shots and everything. Why would my puppy need duplicate shots? Why would I be charged for shots that my puppy doesn't need anymore? I've already started paying for them in the first 6 months of the Early Care plan. Why do I need to pay for them all over again?
I spoke with the Practice Manager and with Corporate about the error in the plans and my payments up to this month. They both explained the plan as if it's an itemized payment plan rather than an all-inclusive plan. Meaning, they don't just give you everything that's listed on the plan for 12 monthly payments of $65.35. They actually itemize everything at retail value. Which again doesn't make sense if it's supposed to a plan.
So basically, my first 6 months of payments (totaling $392.10) didn't cover the itemized costs we incurred during those 6 months. Of course it didn't, I'm making the remaining 6 months of payments to cover all the shots, visits, bloodwork, etc. which is what the plan is supposed to do. But now they're telling me that my plan started over, to include all the puppy shots, bloodwork, etc., everything duplicated! Why?? I did all the math, based on the plans and services that are listed on their website, and my payments made to date. My remaining balance is 1/4 of what they say I still owe. I plan on speaking with a Lawyer. I'm sure there are thousands of other families that have been overcharged like this.

This place WILL scam you! Don't ever go there! My dog had a open infected wounded likely because of long thick coat during the winter. They would literally charge you if they have to walk from one room to another. They wanted to do a test for cancer and eventually, they wanted to do a surgery for about 3 to 4 thousands dollar!! The wounded was treated with just a cleaned anti-bacterial solution for $25 (after my outburst of telling them they were trying to scam me. I did made a scene at the front office). So the 2 visits costed me $1200 instead of just $25 and office visit.

The company and manager only care about profit, to the point of engaging questionable labor policies and deceptive practices surrounding Optimum Wellness Programs (which accounts for over 85% of the Mars Company's Profit). Later my credit card was stolen and I had to get a new one. I updated the Banfield website with the new card. In the process apparently a month's payment was missed. What did Banfield then do? They turned the missing payment (1 out of 12) over to a credit collection agency!!! WTH again!

Original Review: I Took our cat in for suspected urinary tract infection. Was told he had a blockage and needed $5000 worth of emergency surgery and that if we just took him home to let nature take its course he would die in 4 to 6 days then I took him to another vet who determined there was no blockage, and after urinalysis no infection, only stress related issues due to his environment. Banfield misdiagnosed his condition, and possibly. Could have cost us $5000 or how to put a healthy pet to sleep. Highly recommend that you not take your pet to this facility.

When we arrived for his appointment, they were closed. No courtesy, call no email, no text…nothing! I had a run and call a bunch of places to see if I can get them last minute to put down my cat so he wouldn’t suffer. Our emotions are all over the place and this place can’t even let you know that they’re closed early?? Funny how quick Banfield is to let you know when they have a bill that you have to pay them but to turn around and let you know that something happened at the place and they have to close it down. It’s difficult for them to do.
I can’t see why it’s so hard to have a list of patients that are supposed to come in with their animals and you call them and let them know you have to reschedule because there might be an emergency. Banfield has done nothing but put icing on the horrific loss of my pet and since everybody likes proof, Please see the pictures below of the time and date we were there and the times and dates that they’re supposed to be opened. To call this place professional is a joke. I urge people to never take your animals there since they can’t show any professionalism in their job or how they care for your animal.

Attend another appt for shot updates a month or two later, and now he has a heart murmur or a serious ear infection. Definitely not worth the money spent each month. I have had bad experiences with Banfield. You do not save money with the wellness plan. You don't save money on anything. I was mislead when I had to put my doggie to sleep. I was told one price months before and then the day of the euthanasia it was twice as much. I was so hurt and upset. I knew I couldn't take him back home.
I had to let them go ahead with the plan but I did not let them cremated him. Three hundred and ten dollars it would have cost me. Then they put him on the floor. Didn't give me time to even put his head in my lap. Three shots. One to put him to sleep too put him to sleep. My first dog it was one shot. This is a way to charge you more. Every time I took him for his appointment. The vet always said. "I don't see anything", even with my present dog "I don't see anything". Twenty eight dollars look in his ear, thirty four dollars to swab the ear and fifty one to look at the swab under a microscope. Unbelievable. That's the second visit for the yeast infection. I would love to join this lawsuit.

I asked the tech checking me out to ask the vet if he needed an antibiotic or anything else. They said no.
Within one day he was in respiratory distress. The Banfield Vet had not called to check on my pet. I rushed him to a 24 hour emergency vet. They said he had aspirated during the anesthesia for the teeth cleaning and had aspiration pneumonia. It was traumatic, they did everything they could for him and within a day I was holding my beautiful boy who had passed in my arms. I would never use a big box Vet Clinic especially Banfield. In these inflationary times with money being tight, I guess they have to make their money anyway they can.
I wonder how they would feel if they had to pay for something or services they didn’t receive. They weren’t flexible to transfer this over to another dog but instead they wanted their money. The cancellation was accepted and the following Monday I got an email saying I would be billed almost six hundred dollars for not cancelling the contract on time OR I could continue paying monthly payments. I purposefully emailed my cancellation time stamped and dated due to the horrible reviews regarding this company and billing disputes. I was on hold many times. Asked to speak with a manager, was told no one was available, however an account manager informed the person handling the call his name was Daniel that I was being charged full membership because my dog's last visit (Under the wellness plan) was billed as dog visit Not Puppy? There is no terminology in the contract stating that anytime during your one year contract prices change.
He then stated my contract ended 4/6/24. I advised him I had the original contract, the original receipt and the renewal date as 4/12/24. He kept repeating he was going to bill me. I had to pay. I informed him verbally and in writing that Banfield no longer had consent to bill my credit card, if that moved forward I would report this as a fraudulent claim. He still insisted I was paying. I contacted the Local vet and spoke with Emily at Banfield who advised me the company was a complete scam and does this practice often as she was in process of finding new employment for this reason. Emily confirmed my original contract was signed 4/12/23 and valid through 4/12/24. She also noted billing removed me from auto renew 4/6/24 as I requested. She sent me a copy of the contract which I had on file already,
She also sent me an itemized bill if I were just a cash pay person getting the same exact services as my dog was seen for last, all in all totaling $198 which is far less than paying the entire yearly contract up front for a penalty I did not commit. I reported this to the BBB. Sent in all confirming documentation, and gave reach out to our Attorney to review the contract. My emails with Banfield time stamped and dated, their correspondence with me and if for any reason I am sent a bill or to collections I will go after Banfield for consumer fraud. This is absolutely no way to do business. You can not hold people hostage to your business by back dating contracts (illegal) or threaten their credit. The next move is theirs.

For the past 4 years the services have declined; never get to speak nor see the vet only the staff; I wouldn't call this place a hospital; they should change the name to Banfield Drive Up Service; the annual wellness plan is actual that - you have to continue paying for 12 months even though your pet has gone to heaven; plus they denied dental cleaning for two years in a row, but the monthly payment was never reduced until this year (2024); Staffing must be trained to tell you based on the vet examination of your pet the vet has determined that all these tests need to be done, then the staff gives you a huge total - which most is not covered at all by the plan and you end up at least $300.00 or $400.00 out of pocket; of course this doesn't include the medication. Better off just paying as you go along the way; the annual cost is not beneficial to you or your pets.

If I could give this company a 0 star I 1000% would! When I signed up for the wellness plan the representative told me that I had to sign up for a year, but after the year I could cancel. They are VERY deceitful and what they fail to tell you is that if you don't cancel exactly 1 year later, you are committed to a whole additional year. The services provided are not work $65 a month and the discount for unexpected issues is pathetic. Don't waste your time or money with them!

The vets themselves are not the problem. But accessing care continued to be harder while the prices went up. I canceled my plan back in November because I felt I'd get better care elsewhere. I confirmed both online and with the hospital that my plan was ending mid-November. Well it took me until January to notice that I had continued to be charged. I was able to cancel so I didn't incur further charges. Getting refunded has been a nightmare. It's March and I still am unsuccessful. To make matters worse, my dog ended up dying at the end of January. Actually, her diagnosis is something that could and should have been caught earlier by the clinic with her abnormal lab work but at the time I was told it's nothing to worry about. It was completely unexpected.
I've been told 3 different things about how to receive my refund - that I needed to update my card on file. So I did that, then was told actually it will need to be a check. Today I called to receive the check. Instead I received a lecture on how I did not cancel "properly" and should have called... and that they would only refund me 2 of the 3 months "as a courtesy." It was then that it became clear to me she was under the impression that my dog died and now I'm just trying to get my money back. I didn't have my account number on hand, so now I'm going to have to call back AGAIN to get this handled.
I'm so furious at the way I've been treated. As though I made the mistake despite being told my plan was expiring and should have known to call to MAKE SURE? They had no problem canceling the plan for me back in January. The only thing they won't do is refund me the money they owe. Don't waste your money on Banfield. Put the $70 away in your savings monthly to use for vet bills as they come. They won't hesitate to take your money and leave you having to go to the ER for literally anything needing care sooner than a month out.

I had two dogs and as soon as one became sick it was apparent that Banfield was useless. My dog had a heart murmur and as soon as it became more than just a mild murmur I was out of luck getting anything from Banfield. My dog started to have difficulty breathing and I brought her in, they said they were full that day but got me an appointment at a different location (totally wrong my dog was in my arms and they could see she was in trouble). As soon as I walked into that location they said they did not have an oxygen chamber and I needed to go to an ER vet. I went immediately to the ER vet and they said she did not have much of a chance at that point. They tried what they could overnight but I had to let her go the next morning. THEN Banfield had the absolute gall to say I could not just cancel my plan and that any services she received would need to be paid out to cancel the plan that I paid into every month.

You’ll pay for a wellness plan that’s $80 a month yet still find yourself paying out of pocket for the majority of the fees. I purchased tick treatment, but was unable to receive it until I paid out of pocket for a heart worm exam. They neglected to mention this until after the fact. My mom’s dog died, and they refused to release her from the payment plan. Eighty dollars a month for a wellness plan on a dead dog. Get yourself pet insurance, and do yourself a favor and stay away from the money grabbing scammers like this one. This place is a joke. They claim you’re saving money and show you a giant bill with their discounts, but you’re just paying for the wellness plan, on top of paying out of pocket. Pet insurance costs the same amount, and they reimburse you for preventative plans like this one. Find a better vet clinic that still practices basic human principles and values. This place has one agenda, and that’s ringing you for all they can.

Despite having informed Banfield several times that I did not want to renew my contract. I ended up paying an entire year for my cat Trixie and having to take her to a different vet and paying them. Worst veterinary in colorado hands down. Doctor called and said I was missed charge dude to my monthly service. DR ** she said they would fix it and call me back in 10-15 min (Mind you my dog in a crate with poop on him this whole time waiting). I wait an hour and half for a phone call and nothing. I uber up there to get Thanos and nobody acted like anything and just handed me a bill. The same one Dr ** said was wrong. Jason the management at glendale location told me I signed for it all and I have to pay it 'cause he runs the show. I said get the doctor out here. He just argued and said I won't be getting my dog and I'll be getting sent to collections if don't pay the bill. Mind you I also added to grind my dog's nails and they only trimmed them. I also asked to quote if he needed anal gland expression and they just did it for 50$!! I only had a issue with the blood test charge the doctor said wasn't supposed to be on it due to my monthly plan and he has all his test for free once a year with it.
They will trick you. Make you sign a computer then say you signed a bill. Take advantage of customers. So he called the cops on me when I called the cops on him because he was kidnapping my child at this point. Refusing to bring him out. I have videos of it. He then brought my dog out covered in poop as we was in a crate for hours unneeded due to the management not calling back and handling business correctly. The cops showed up and kicked me out the petsmart and the Banfield inside. Was banned from both. If I had a weren't unknown or anything my dog would have been took and sent to spca and adopted. I can't believe this place. They also ended up taking off the charge when I had another banfield go get my records. He locked it until I paid but took off the charge he called the cops for and minused the bill for the 40 credit... Absurd and absolutely bullying and personally attacking me and my dog. I was getting my son his check up yearly and almost had him taken away from me for life.

They said they would write her one at the time. I didn't get a prescription right then because she still had enough for a few weeks. The vet visit costs $125. Which was ridiculous due to the fact they didn't do anything but check her weight and look her over.
I called them to let them know I will be needing the prescription refill because my dog was almost out of **. They told me I would have to bring her back for a glucose test which would cost an additional $400. I didn't understand this because she already had one done at the emergency vet. Her blood sugar levels have been on track ever since giving her the **, so I asked why do they have to test her again. To which the RUDE vet doctor replied, "don't get mad at me. This has to be done or she will not be able to get a refill." Still no explanation as to why. That place is all about overcharging, and not caring about the animals well being. They rush their services to get as much money as they can by seeing as many animals as they can. Which does not say much for quality care. Do not take your animals there. Ellie arrived at Banfield for neutering at 9:30am. Ellie was a 6-month-old healthy, clear medical history miniature yorkie terrier. We were turned away after being scheduled and confirmed appointment the day before, because “they do not conduct neutering Sundays”. After inquiring why, Dr. ** told the tech that she will conduct the procedure, and Ellie was then admitted and dropped off. The tech nor Banfield ever clarified why “neutering” is not conducted on Sundays. Posing the question if, Dr. ** or the Banfield facility were ready to conduct such procedure.
At 11:27 am we received a call that Ellie needed to go to ER due to an emergency with anesthesia and gas going into her body. At that time, I was advised that she will be going to North Star ER in Robbinsville NJ, which is 35 mins away from their Marlton route 73 location. Upon the review of the medical records, Ellie went into critical condition and required chest compressions at 11:18 am and had no heartbeat. She was not transported at 11:18 or not even shortly after, and was not even transported when they advised me that she was being transported and in route, during the initial call at 11:27 am.
According to the medical report, they called various vets to get their medical opinion on what should be done, did not know what ER to send her to, did not know if we would be transporting or they would be transporting to the ER, they did not have an emergency plan, they conducted Xrays, all while Ellie was in a critical medical emergency.
At 11:32am my husband decides to call back to get further details, Dr. ** was on the call with my husband for 14 minutes, and my husband was being advised, what occurred, and that Ellie was on her way to the ER. My husband asked, “which hospital?” since we live 1hr away. Dr. ** told him Mount Laurel, but “not to go there just yet”. Mount Laurel hospital was a different hospital than the one provided on the initial call with us. Dr. **, nor Banfield had a clear emergency protocol, hence they provide us with two different hospitals during our calls and did not take Ellie immediately to the ER when a critical medical emergency was identified.
A clear and concise, emergency plan is a required state protocol that Banfield, such a large corporation, owned by Mars. Inc which owns many animals related care, facilities and products, clearly did not have in place. Poses the question, if all Banfield locations and Doctors are conducting business and the care of our animals in the same unethical way.
The call with my husband was 14 minutes long, comparing the medical report and our calls the information on the medical report is inaccurate or false. Mount Laurel Animal Hospital was only 14 minutes away from Banfield. If and when Ellie was transported immediately, she would have arrived before 11:40 am. At 11:50am I call Mount Laurel Animal Hospital to confirm Ellie’s arrival and status, and they shared that Ellie had not arrived. At 12:01 pm I received a call from Dr. ** that Ellie had passed, when we asked Dr. ** over the phone and in person, what occurred, she shared that Ellie was too small, and she, Dr. **, accidentally tore her trachea with the tube being used for the gas anesthesia.
Dr. ** nor any Banfield tech or employee ever advised us of the risk of a neutering procedure on our small Ellie. On the other hand, since we joined their practice they have continuously marketed and strongly promoted “neutering Ellie.” The neutering appointment was actually scheduled prior to her 6 months birth date. Dr. ** nor any of the Banfield doctors, ever oppose or share with us that Ellie size can pose a risk or cause injury, or death by neutering. Dr. ** continuously addressed this tragedy as an accident. Dr. ** did not have any knowledge of our dog breed and their redisposed medical risk factors.
Now knowing and conducting our research as a consumer, Yorkie Terrier breed are over-represented in dogs that suffer from tracheal collapse, making up approximately 65% of cases. Dr. ** lack of medical knowledge about our dog's breed and predisposed risk factors, her lack of sharing the risk, her the lack of not conducting the procedure carefully, her the lack of not choosing to postpone or deny the procedure because she did not feel comfortable with Ellie size, her lack of urgency in getting Ellie to the ER, her lying that Ellie was on the way to the ER among other variants indicated and falsely written in the medical report that occurred, makes her actions medical negligence, failure to respond appropriately to the emergency and an overall tragedy that she should be held accountable for.
After so much research, Banfield, Mars Inc, Pet Smart and Dr. ** as a whole should held accountable not only for Ellie’s neglectful death, but in a big picture for all the animals that their negligence, as a corporation with unethical standards, have killed, misdiagnosed, or caused injury to.

First off let me say that I have been taking my pets to Banfield in Webster NY for over 7 years and have been a part of their Wellness Program. We love the service and care that we receive at Banfield and their Wellness Program has save us much money. In November we were planning month long trip to Sicily in February and wanted to bring our 1 year old dog who is small. Our vet told us to contact the vet at another local Banfield who specializes in foreign travel for pets. We called in November and made the appointment for the end of January, a week before travel. On the day of the appointment that vet called us and said that we did get our pet rabies shot in May and her microchip in July. I said we did. She said that after a microchip is inserted you needed a new rabie shot. Once the shot is given the dog could not travel for the first 21 days which means she could not make the trip. We had to scramble to find dog care at a short notice.
You would think that the staff, knowing when we called in November what the appointment was for would of checked out the rabie /microchip issue. It looked like it was not looked at till the day of the appointment. This has nothing to do with my local Banfield. The vet that messed up might be a wonderful vet but she never admitted that she messed up. That is why I wrote this review.

I have been going to Banfield Pet Hospital for over 12 years now. I currently have 5 active Wellness Plans for 3 dogs, 1 cat, and oh yeah, our now deceased dog that is the 5th active account. Banfield Pet Hospital should be ashamed of themselves for collecting money out of people who have lost a pet and either demand them to pay in full or continue to pay for a deceased pet's Wellness Plan. It’s not only a slap in the face to loyal customers that use the Wellness Plans, but it’s another reminder each month when the company takes the money out of my bank account for our beloved dog that is no longer here with us.
Banfield Pet Hospital prides themselves on taking care of people’s animals, but clearly, they only care about the earnings they are receiving and not the actual clientele, GREED. Banfield Pet Hospital seems to have no problem continuing to profit off of customers even in their time of grief. They do this despite earning hundreds of millions of dollars along with MARS Corporation, who owns them and many other pet vendors. Thank you Banfield Pet Hospital for showing your true lack of compassion in our time of deep sorrow and really showing us that you do not value our pets, but the money we provide to you and continue to with our pets that are alive & our now deceased pet. It was explained to me that the plan would involve being advised by a vet on future care that my pet would need. The total cost of the services would be calculated, with some services discounted, and then I would pay in installments.) I said, "No." At that point, I was already making scheduled visits for my pet's care. I refused to be upsold on other services and I did NOT want to get locked into a one-year contract. He had epilepsy and hyperstasia and every time I brought him in they did the bare minimum but they always charged me high prices every single visit and the plan that I thought was so good never ever seem to cover anything in their eyes and in the end I brought him cause he was lethargic and they didn’t do crap but send me home saying he has jaundice and told me just to feed him cause that’s what they learned in medical school.
And so I lost my baby to liver failure and I know it’s from over medicating him and they deny it but I have proof from the pharmacy and bottles they filled and I will never take another animal there ever again. So please run as far as you can. They get you in convincing the plan is a good thing but take it from me. Whenever it counted magically the plan never covered anything.

If I could give this veterinary business a negative star rating, I would. They experience was a nightmare. They vet tech literally used an ink pen to probe at my cat's anus. Good thing I have Jesus in my heart or I would have snatched that lady up so quick. Fortunately I was able to retrieve my cat and leaves immediately. I will never ever return to this business. I highly recommend that no one take your fur babies here. They are not professional. I wouldn't trust them with a stuffed animal much less my furry family members!! Appalled and disgusted, Marie

Banfield Pet Hospital Optimum Wellness Plan has had my patronage for years. Bubba passed on Nov 1, and when I made the arrangements for the in-home euthanasia, the company I used mentioned pet insurance might cover some - I knew they wouldn't, but it made me realize that we'd be paying for another month the next day, so I called with bleary eyes to cancel. I was treated with utter disregard and told that "customers who want to cancel before the 12 months, they have to finish paying...blah, blah, blah." I was in shock! Want? Want???? Did I WANT to lose my family member??? I wasn't changing plans. I was losing my Bubba. Zero kindness, zero empathy. I refused to spend more time on the phone with them. Guess who has continued charging me?!
In contrast, Chewy not only cancelled all of my order when I called them a week later, but they refunded my last month's order and told me to donate the items to a shelter. They sent me flowers and a lovely card. That is a company that deserves to work with pet parents. I had the distinct displeasure of calling Banfield again today upon noticing the additional charges, and guess what? They have no regard, no kindness, no decency whatsoever! After a very painful call and much back and forth, they finally gave just an inch by not charging me for an ADDITIONAL 2 months, but will not refund the last two months and put me through a hellish call just for that. HOW DARE THEY?!
The money in question is less than what Chewy OFFERED to refund when I was simply stopping my monthly orders. It's not even about the money. It is the principle of the matter and they clearly have none! I WILL NEVER, EVER CONSIDER THEIR INSURANCE EVER AGAIN!

First off, I would not give this place a single star. No introductions on any of the staff, who they were or what their role was in caring for my kitten. The vet herself came into treatment room after being pushed into becoming a member of their Wellness Plan, with no indication that she was the Dr. The lack of professionalism with not introducing herself, how she presented herself with green and blue hair. Facial piercings, dirty ratty clothing. She could have at least worn a lab coat. But the big red flag was when she administered my kitten her vaccination, the vet Or whom I thought was a vet, uncapped the needle with her mouth, and was not wearing any PPE (gloves, gown). Then back to pushing their Wellness Plan.

The wellness plan is a scam. They advertise it as insurance, but you are paying monthly to get 10% off of select services. With the wellness plan, you will pay more than if you just paid for the services you need in full at the time of receiving them. You also get locked into year-long monthly payments that auto-update without your permission, even if your pet is dead. Go somewhere else if you value your peace of mind and money.

After having to put my dog to sleep after confirming that she was riddled with tumors in her liver and spleen, realize that the many years of paying for their wellness plan and staunch and endless upselling during EVERY visit was a lengthy (yrs long) waste of money. Xrays, Blood tests, physical examinations etc. during their scheduling wellness plan visits and no inkling into the tumors within our almost 9 year old Blk Lab (1 being the size of a tennis ball). Also, if you are contemplating and thinking about their wellness plan, make sure that you are aware if you fall behind a payment due to a loss of credit or debit card, can expect a rigorous heavy handed daily collection attempts via emails and phone calls.
The final straw for my wife and I when trying to get clarification for our dog's definitive condition thru imaging (Ultra Sound) is when we were denied verbally prior to the scheduling of being allowed in the room with our dog at the Margate Florida location (that we frequented) during the $500 ultrasound and was expected to leave our dying dog for possibly upwards of 8 hrs there till the 3rd party ultrasound tech could arrive at their leisure with no guarantee as to a time frame. We opted for a more humane vet for a $700 ultrasound price point where we were gladly welcomed to be with and part of our dying dog's stressful ultrasound procedure during the SCHEDULED TIME that it was to take place.
Today, I just noticed that another monthly wellness plan payment was pending after the Euthanizing service emailed me the death certificate and verified that they had forwarded to my vet (Banfield Pet Hospital) as well. When I called to terminate my dead dog's wellness plan and ask to be refunded for today's payment, I was denied and an attempt to collect more money ensued to cover the remaining balance on my plan. All of that being said, I suggest if you are on the fence and weighing options where to take your well loved family pets for care, can strongly recommend any other Vet option other than Banfield Pet Hospital.

My cat, Charlotte was a client of Crawford Dog and Cat for many years before Banfield bought them out. As a regular patient, and aside from her latter years hyperthyroidism, Charlotte was healthy and I cared for her well. She was also a boarder at Banfield whenever we traveled, and once when we moved, she was there for 3 months. Thousands of dollars. We were made to believe that Charlotte was a favored patient and that the staff cared. Aside from a very special vet tech who always took care of our kitty, it seems that no one else actually did care. At the age of 18, Charlotte began showing signs of distress on Oct. 15, 2023. I brought her to Banfield for a confirmed appointment on Oct. 25. I was told there was no one to see her, since they were all doing dental scalings!! Eventually, a doctor saw us. She didn't even read Charlotte's history, until I told her to.
I willingly agreed to $564 worth of blood tests, shots, and hydration, and was told I would hear the bloodwork results within two days. By Oct. 27, Charlotte was in great distress and not eating or drinking. I called Banfield and was told the tests weren't in yet. I called all morning of Oct. 28 and NO ONE ANSWERED. I brought her to another vet (West Hills in Huntington: EXCELLENT) and they called Banfield for the bloodwork for three hours, but no one answered. Final result: I authorized new bloodwork for another $500, and got it immediately from West Hills. Not ready to let Charlotte go, I went home with her and cared for her until Monday, when her state was clearly irreversible. We were taken care of humanely and compassionately at West Hills, and Charlotte died in my arms.
The following Saturday, November 4, a doctor from Banfield called with the bloodwork results, FIVE DAYS AFTER MY CAT HAD DIED!!! She said they were in her mailbox and hadn't been seen. Stay as far away from Banfield as you can. Horrible place that is interested only in money. They never even called to offer some sympathy to me. West Hills sent cards and even Nationwide Pet Insurance sent condolences. There is one excellent vet tech at Crawford/Banfield, but I hope she leaves soon. This place is the worst!!!

I have had Banfield Wellness Plan insurance for many years. For the most part, I was very satisfied with the services offered and the monetary savings. My pet recently passed. I called to cancel my insurance and to my surprise, I was told that although I am no longer in need of their insurance, I need to continue paying $75/month until my yearly renewal is up in April 2024. In short, I'm being charged for 6 months of insurance when obviously, I'm no longer in need of. This is to me is insane. Why should I be paying for insurance I'm no longer using?
At the time I purchased the Banfield pet insurance, I was not made aware of this clause. Since this is a practice that Banfield is obviously is getting away with, the least they can do is ensure that all Banfield employees are trained to inform their clients of this stipulation in their Wellness plan. And to top it all, I was supposed to get my ashes two weeks from putting my pet to sleep. It has been over six weeks and I'm still waiting to receive them. I find it hard to believe it would take that long. By the time I get them, based on my experience, I doubt very much they will actually be the ashes of my fur pet. But in my heart, and for peace of mind, I will need to pretend they will be.

BEWARE OF BANFIELD PET HOSPITALS NATIONWIDE IN THE USA!!! TRULY A NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! I feel compelled to share my harrowing experience with Banfield Pet Hospital in hopes of preventing other pet owners from going through the same TRAUMATIC ordeal. My beloved super healthy 4 year old dog suffered immensely due to their negligence and protocols or should I say lack of, including lack of proper care.
My nightmare began when I took my pet to Banfield for a routine dental cleaning, his first one and most likely last one. No dental issues, just a routine cleaning. Little did I know that this seemingly simple procedure would turn into a life threatening situation. My dog was overdosed, with excessive anesthesia as "prescribed by their protocols" which lead to complications after and a prolonged recovery process of 3 + days. He almost didn't make it. What shocked me even more was the hospital and corporate blatant disregard for my pet's well being. It became so evident that their protocols were driven by FINANCIAL GAIN rather than the health and safety of the animals in their care. It is DISHEARTENING to witness a facility like this prioritize PROFIT over the LIVES OF INNOCENT PETS.
Despite my attempts to seek resolution and accountability from Banfield CORPORATE team and office, I have been met with silence and indifference for days. The lack of communication and empathy from their end only adds insult to injury and it is clear that they DO NOT VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS or the WELL BEING of THE ANIMALS entrusted to their care. Yesterday I finally got a call from chief vet for Banfield stating "they have made a mistake and are aware of bad reputation, bad reviews, issues with customer service and are working on it and will try to resolve this situation".
Furthermore, my experience is not an isolated incident. COUNTLESS NEGATIVE reviews from MANY other pet owners echo my sentiments, highlighting a pattern of subpar practices and service that are questionable at Banfield NATIONWIDE. It is alarming to see so many pet owners share similar stories of mistreatment, negligence and unethical and unprofessional service only concerned for their own profits and more $$$!
I implore ALL PET OWNERS to THINK TWICE before entrusting their furry companions to ANY BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL. The risks and potential harm OUTWEIGH ANY CONVENIENCE or COST SAVINGS they may offer with their insurance plans. Our pet's safety and well being should always be the top priority and it is crucial to choose a facility that upholds those values which Banfield Pet Hospitals do not.
In conclusion, my experience has been nothing short of a NIGHTMARE. I urge you to consider alternative options and do your research on any of their facilities before making a decision. Your pet's health and happiness are too precious to be compromised by a HOSPITAL THAT PRIORITIZES PROFIT OVER THE PET'S WELL BEING.

My name is Teresa **, I use Banfield Pet hospitals for the past ten years. The staff at the Banfield in Mount Laurel NJ is in general a good staff. My problem is not the hospitals’ staff. My issue is the same issue that the 98% of the customers who are using this way to communicate how terrible the corporate staff is. Like many others one of my dearest pets passed away last November 26, 2023. At Banfield in Mount Laurel NJ the staff knew my dog Cupcake and they always provided her with the attention and care she deserved. However, today I called the customer service phone number to cancel my dog’s plan and keep my other dog’s plan active. The customer service representative told me that I had to pay $500 to cancel the contract because it recently got renew. I couldn't believe was I was hearing. It’s not I was requesting a cancelation just because. I requested the cancelation because my dog passed away. It makes no sense at all.
I know the CEO Mony Lyer took over the messy corporation about a year ago. I think Mr. Lyer, you need to READ all these horrible reviews (that are well deserved by the way) and STOP ignoring what you are doing wrong. You are stealing from pet parents who are mourning their dear pets and you and your corporate staff continuing sucking the money out of us. Really it makes no sense to pay for a service that a pet will never receive because the pet passed away. You should create an exception on your old fashion “ wellness plan”, and don’t charge money to those who their pets are dead. Due to my horrible experience I’m even planning to take my other dog off the plan (of course I’m pretty sure I will have to pay some moneyyyy as well), and look for a better place to do business with.

A few months ago we took in my childhood cat due to my father being unable to take care of her, and put her on the senior plan. Not only were her vet visits still costly, but sometimes they would double charge me for a month and I would end up paying 120 dollars for her despite no vet visits. Last week she took a turn for the worse, and we ended up with a 800 dollar bill despite the wellness plan (which really, it didn't cover a damn thing) and she ended up passing away Monday that same week. I cancelled her wellness plan, still got charged. Sat on the phone for an hour on hold only for them to tell me I owed six more months of payments on her plan, droning on over me while I was weeping and telling me I still had to pay for "services rendered" and finish off the plan despite the fact that my cat is dead.
So now I get to throw money at the grim reaper and be reminded of my sweet old lady cat's death for six months, paying for her corpse essentially. Terribly handed, dehumanizing, ripped the wound of grief and pain right back open and after paying for months and months of no services, I get to chuck 360 dollars into a garbage disposal for a cat that I can't hold anymore, can't love anymore, can't see anymore. I had to watch her die, and now I get to spend six more months paying for services she will never receive, after wasting an hour of my time waiting for some corporate loser to read a script at me. Not worth it. Not worth it at all.

Banfield is a scam!!!! 9/28 my 5 year old Bernese mountain dog had his comprehensive exam which included 40 labs and everything came back normal. This new doctor did his work up and essentially called me a bad dog owner for opting out of tick medication (because we had so many ticks in Seattle during winter). I opted out for it because one of my dogs had a severe allergic reaction to it and I didn’t want to risk my 2 other dogs (one being his litter mate) potentially having any kind of reaction. Within 2 weeks of the comprehensive exam, my Berner, Benji, started getting a really bad cough that would turn into wheezing then hacking. After a few days of it not clearing up, I set an appt up for 11/9 (took 2 weeks to get an appt in) and it was the same dr who did Benji's comprehensive exam. She did his assessment and said everything looked and sounded good.
I tried to show her a 15 second video of my dog coughing and she watched maybe 5 seconds of it and said that’s all she needed to see. I SPECIFICALLY asked if he had anything stuck in his throat or if he had aspirated and she said, "No everything looks good, he has a cold." Sent me home with antibiotics and cough medicine (cost was roughly $130 for meds). By day 3, his cough was getting worse and thankfully the people at the front desk were able to get me an X-ray within 2 days. 11/14 xray and lymph node biopsy is done. A different vet at Banfield told me she sees something in his throat that could be lodged in there, did another set of X-rays and it was actually enlarged lymph nodes (cost was roughly $950). 11/15 lymph nodes came back cancerous and had already began spreading to his lungs.
I have a scheduled at home euthanasia for my 5 year old Berner. I tried to cancel my Optimum wellness plan for Benji and now they’re saying that because the services I used cost $1044.32, Installments paid to date = $179.80, Remaining balance for services = $864.52, Remaining wellness plan payments = $359.60. I essentially have to either pay for the $359.60 upfront or continue Benji’s insurance until 07/05/2024 when his yearly renewal is up. I’ve called the 888 number twice, the first gentleman was absolutely ATROCIOUS. He was condescending and whenever I asked for a breakdown of number he became more rude and short and began raising his voice at me and refused to transfer me to a different associate. The second associate put me on hold for 5 minutes and never came back. READ YOUR BANFIELD CONTRACT!!! THEY PUT IT IN THE POLICY THAT IT’LL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW!!
This new vet also tried to charge me $200 for an anti nausea shot for my dog Hodor when he had pancreatitis when his only symptom was diarrhea and $150 for gastrointestinal food. She told me the total for everything was $900 and I asked her to break down the pricing for me. She was going to charge me for all of these things without even asking me if I wanted new food or the shot.

April 9th, 2013 I started the "wellness plan" and paying the monthly fee for an 8week old Boxer mix puppy I had just gotten. Initially good care and treatment (at the Belton, Mo vet, now closed). Forward to September 2023. My now 10 yr dog started having issues with back legs seeming to be getting weak/unable to support him. Had to take him to the Overland Park, Ks vet where he was diagnosed Canine degenerative myelopathy, and informed that his plan would not cover x-rays, cat scan and other test. Without completing the test and shots our appointment was for, was rushed to leave and told They would contact me for follow-up and have shots given then.
Today is November 13th, 2023 and I contacted the Overland Park Banfield to inform them my dog had passed the 12th and requested cancellation of "wellness plan" and am being told that my pet's death does not matter. That I still owe for the plans 12 months payments since the plan just renewed November 6th. Or I could pay them $60 and they would cancel our contract. Just wanted to let others know that the "wellness plan" is not what it is presented as. Be positive of what you're paying for and that it truly covers full health care. And lastly, what sort of company or person bills and expects payment after being informed the covered being has died.

I do not recommend this business anywhere in the US if you love your pet!! This place is horrible, very unorganized, staff is confused about everything along with the wellness plan cancellation customer service staff. Earlier this month on a Thursday I scheduled my Frenchie for his first FREE pet exam, when we arrived it was a long wait due to a dog passing away while we were there which is understandable. The family was crying and upset and they were so inconsiderate of the family with the dog that passed, the vet was more worried about getting their credit card for payment. Poor family. I heard one of the staff say they had over 40 dogs in the back and didn't know where any more animals that came in would go, this was at about 10:30-11:00 am. Why schedule that amount of appointments if he can’t handle it and don’t have the space??
I was told I would get a call when my dog was ready. 3:30 still no call, I call and they said he was ready, when were they going to call and let me know? Oh yeah she entered my phone number wrong so how could they call me?? So when I get there to pick up my dog it's another 35 minute wait. Finally I get to the counter and I’m told I owe $210. I knew I was paying for the wellness plan which was $92, which online stated it would be $72. Signing up online is a waste of time because your information won’t transfer to their system, you have to give them everything all over again and pray they enter it correctly. I asked the staff what was the breakdown for the balance due, she told me I had a 60 something dollars for an enrollment fee. I let her know that I used I coupon when I signed my dog up online that waived that fee. She literally looked at me and said, "What do you want me to do about it," I said, "Take it off."
She gave me a hard time, told me to wait while she asked for assistance. She finally returned and stated she would have to call to have fee approved to be waived. When she was on the phone with the agent we heard her giving them my wrong phone number that they had entered in the system when I came in that morning. I know no one is perfect but 3 mistakes with one dog in one day is a little ridiculous. Makes me worry and them entering wrong medication, etc., that could be deadly to someone's pet. I told her the correct number, she never updating it. She told me I had 4 business days to cancel my wellness plan and be reimbursed. Then they charged me 50 something dollars for medicine because my dog just happened to throw up that day.
After I paid for everything the nurse came out to explain the medicine to me, everything they gave my dog said it could make him throw up more. So what is the point?? I gave the medicine to my dog for 2 days and he was still throwing up. I stopped giving him the medicine and he hadn't been sick since. A waste of money, they just want your money.
My dog is a Blue colored French Bulldog, on my dog's rabies paperwork they had my dog's color as tan and his breed as a Billy. Not even sure what a Billy is. I let the staff know that it was not correct and she told me maybe the staff member that entered the info was colorblind. I asked her what is a Billy she stated she wasn't sure what a Billy was as well. She gave me the paper back and proceeded to walk away, I'm like, "Ma'am can we please fix this? I don't want him to be labeled wrong on his rabies paperwork in the system." She stated she didn't think she could change it because I already paid, she could tell I was not happy with that answer so she said she would try to fix it. She did fix it in their system but was not able to print me updated paperwork with the correct info on it.
So on Monday morning which would be my 3rd business since a started my wellness plan, I call the office to cancel my plan. I'm given a 1-800 phone number to call to cancel. When I called I gave the incorrect phone number because the staff never updated it, in the system the agent on the phone did update my phone number. I'm then told I would have to pay over $400 to cancel my policy. I asked for what, and was told for any services that were done minus the $92 I paid for the wellness plan. How is this possible if the first exam was free and already paid for the unnecessary medicine?? I asked for a supervisor, agent stated he would put in a request for a call back but it could take up to 24 to 48 hours.
3 1/2 days later a supervisor calls and says the same thing, I would have to pay over $400 before my policy could be canceled. She could not explain to what was free with the exam. She stated I could try out another Banfield, I told her the reviews are horrible at most locations you have and if I try another I will last my 4 days and would be stuck for 12 months. I took my card off my plan so I don't get charged. I will contact the corporate office because this is just ridiculous. Oh and when you call the office be prepared to be put on hold for 30 minutes or more, happened to me twice. They deserve a zero star but it won't let me. Please view my Yelp review for an update for the Greenbrier location in Chesapeake, VA. Thank you.

If you are considering Banfield as your provider for pet care, read their contracts. They say you receive a savings, but you really don't. They upcharge the services to make you think you are getting a discount. Do your research and compare to other local vets. Even talk about the end of life conditions for your pet and how the plan applies. It's an annual contract, so if your pet dies in the middle of the year, you are still responsible for the balance of the plan to the next renewal date. Know what you are getting into before buying into. The vets and staff are GREAT... caring, compassionate, and really love on your dog. Their humans. The corporation is another story. Complete opposite of what you get at the clinic. Some people have had bad experiences at the clinic, I can honestly say I have not. But the people at the clinic have their hands tied when it comes to the contract. So do your homework!
I had to euthanize my 14-year-old dog on November 4th, 2023. The staff were fantastic and told me to call the 800 number to cancel my wellness plan (it would renew in April 2024). The man I spoke to at the 800 number was cold and unsympathetic when I told him why I was cancelling and said, "you still have to pay the balance of the plan". I understand I was in a contract... and yes, it is my duty to know what is in it. But Banfield has a duty to explain some of the conditions as well, so there is no confusion. Duty owed; duty breached!!! That was never done... ever. It should be part of their annual review of the plan when it renews, especially when your dog gets older in age or has health issues. The more this customer service rep spoke to me in such an uncaring manner, the more I decided to dig into this company. I am so sad to read the hundreds of other people who have been misled and mistreated by this company.
The staff are not educated on the program and some of the conditions, they just know they have to sell it. There is no cost savings if you compared to local vets in your area. Banfield actually increases their rates to make it look like a cost savings. I bought into it thinking of the convenience for my pet, not as insurance. Feels like a bait and switch that I swallowed for 14 years until the very end.
My neighbor uses another vet that does not even charge for euthanizing your pet if you are their regular customer. No discount for that at Banfield. I paid over $300 to put my girl down, and to add insult to injury, they want another $250+ for a plan I cannot use. What a punch in the gut. Unbelievable the lack of empathy, sympathy, or compassion. I am grieving, yes, but there has to be something that can be done. Add me to any class action lawsuit against them. I believe I have almost all my dogs records of care still to compare to industry standard rates. At the end of the day, I would pay the $250+… I would pay anything… to have my Murfee back.

My story starts when we took our dog "Puppy" to the animal hospital for a respiratory issue and was given a prescription for **. That following week we had called one of Puppy's vets at Banfield Moorestown, NJ to let him know and if he could see if Mt. Laurel Animal Hospital had done blood work and sent it over. The vet agreed to take a look and call us back but we never heard from him. After a few days, the ** was making her vomit, so we called Banfield for an appointment at another location in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Cherry Hill female vet there explained that the other vet was at that location that morning and they spoke about Puppy’s illness and he stated that there was no blood work performed at Mt. Laurel Animal Hospital.
I asked why he hadn’t called us back that same week and we could’ve brought Puppy in for blood work then, the Cherry Hill female vet replied that she didn’t know but offered an injectable antibiotic but I had to wait a few days for the money, she did say Puppy’s vitals were fine. We ended up taking Puppy back to the female vet on 7/18 for the injectable antibiotic and again the Cherry Hill female vet stated that Puppy’s vitals were good. We had asked her if we could do blood work to see exactly what was going on and she said no. She said she wanted to wait till Puppy went in for her diabetic test and then do the blood work. We asked her a second time to do blood work since the insurance I had covered it and I was willing to pay for it myself, but she said no again and said to wait.
The next day, 7/19, Puppy was still being picky when eating but we were giving her this prescription food high in calories but she seemed a little more tired than normal. On Thursday, 7/20, Puppy had a normal morning like the other, drinking and going to the bathroom. By 10 am, my son brought her in from a walk and noticed green and yellow mucus coming from her nose, so we made an appointment at Banfield Moorestown with Puppy's original Moorestown female vet, who has treated Puppy for years. The appointment was at 5:30, by that time Puppy had gone from not feeling well to catastrophic and Moorestown female vet said that she had a fever of 104 & to take her to the emergency hospital.
We rushed her to Mr. Laurel Animal Hospital where she was immediately taken to the back. After examining her, the doctor came in and stated that because Puppy was so sick, they didn’t think she’d make it through the aggressive testing, so we made the decision to have her put down. It broke my heart but I couldn’t see her suffer like that.
I’m sure if the Cherry Hill female vet had performed the blood work like I asked she would’ve found something. Would it have prevented what happened, maybe or maybe not. I still feel that she did not abide by the oath she took when she was sworn in as a veterinarian and she was negligent by not trying to figure out what was wrong with Puppy knowing that she had been sick since 6/29/23. The Cherry Hill female vet knew that the blood work would’ve been paid for by my insurance plan that was through Banfield but refused to do it 2 times after being asked.
I had sent an email to Banfield corporate executives as well as Mars corporate executives explaining the situation that occurred and how I went on Puppy’s account on the Banfield portal and everything was wiped out. I asked for a copy of all of her records to be sent to me. I received an email and a voicemail from the Vice President, Client Relations, he emailed me Puppy’s records and offered his condolences. I returned his call and in speaking to him, he mentioned that he also paid off the rest of my insurance plan for 10 months and cancelled it. Nothing anyone does will bring Puppy back but I feel that I have to be the voice for her.

Review for Banfield Pet Hospital - Walnut, Cary. I recently had an unfortunate experience at the Walnut, Cary location. I scheduled an appointment for my dog at 11:30 am, expecting her to receive timely care. However, when I returned for pick-up at the agreed time of 5:00 pm, I was dismayed to learn that she had not been attended to. It seemed she had been overlooked and left in her crate for the duration of our scheduled time. The staff only began the examinations and the agreed-upon procedures upon my arrival.
After bringing her home, I noticed that she was incredibly thirsty, leading me to believe she might not have been offered water throughout her extended stay. While I understand that mistakes happen, keeping a pet confined without essential care for over six hours is concerning. I have generally had positive experiences with the Banfield network, but this particular visit was quite disappointing.

I signed up for their wellness plan for my 2 dogs which cost $100/mo and have had them for several years. But "wellness" visits are NEVER just get your covered "wellness" benefits, i.e., routine checkups, vaccines, etc. There has not been one visit where they didn't find something wrong with my dogs which of course, are never covered by the plan. I have never left a wellness visit that didn't cost me hundreds of dollars. Every time you go they upsell the heck out of you, which is their sole job and purpose because it's where they make their money.
Last week I took my dogs to get their nails trimmed. They called me a few hours later to tell me my one dog had 2 broken toes and she was in severe distress and pain, so they wouldn't clip her nails because it would only cause her more distress, despite her nails being very long and several pushing into her paw pads due to a birth deformity on one foot. They recommended x-rays and said she required prescription pain medication and anti-inflammatories. I questioned them as I brought her in perfectly fine, except for some bleeding between 2 toes, which is normal for her due to skin allergies and constant licking as she is a white bully so skin issues are par for the course.
I declined the x-rays as I couldn't afford them and like with humans, there is no treatment for broken toes other than maybe taping and just letting them heal, but I got the meds because I didn't want her to be in pain. The visit cost me several hundred dollars that I really didn't have. When they brought her out she was happy, running around and she was using that foot normally, no limping, no signs of pain or distress, etc., which made me even more skeptical. I asked them, could the vet be mistaken because that foot has the birth defect - she was born with no nails on the 2 outer toes and the bones did not form correctly - she is actually missing several bones in that foot.
The tech said it "was possible." I made the appt with a specific vet who had seen my dog the last several visits as she was no nonsense and didn't try to upsell me to death. I didn't find out until I got the receipt that it was a new vet who had never seen my dog. Which is another huge issue with Banfield - the turnover of their vets is ridiculous. Every time you find a vet you like and prefer, they're gone a few months later, so you're constantly getting vets who are seeing your pets for the first time. Bottom line - when we got home my dog was perfectly fine, she showed no signs of an injury, no pain, no limping. Her toes were not broken and my dog was given meds she didn't need. Had I OK'd the x-rays the visit would have cost me over $600 for a perfectly healthy dog.
I immediately canceled auto renewal for their plans and once their plan ends I will find another vet clinic. Banfield is nothing more than a business whose sole purpose is upselling and making lots of money, not the welfare of animals. I would stay away from them unless you want to get milked at every so-called "wellness" visit. I don't know how they remain in business with their sleazy tactics.

On Saturday 30 Sept 2023, I contacted the pet hospital location (Cedar Park TX) and was given an appointment to bring our cat for a consult from a veterinarian, on Oct 1 2023 at 11:15 AM. I showed up for the appointment, filled out all the paperwork and met with a tech and the vet on duty. The vet look at the large growth on the bridge of the cat's nose, determined it was in/on the skin and appeared to easily removed, she was also show a soft lump under the skin on the cat's neck and she said it was most likely a cyst.
She observed the cat need a teeth cleaning and had large claw on one back foot that needed to be cut or trimmed. She said doing everything at the same time would be easier for the cat and would probably cost less. We agreed and were given an appointment for Wed 4 Oct 2023 at 7:00 to 7:15 AM drop-off and I could pick the cat up at 5:30 PM because they were open till 6PM. The vet said a tech would contact us on Monday to give us the cost estimate and the prep instructions (feeding cut off, pet drop off time, etc.)
Monday afternoon I still had a call from the tech so I call the hospital and the girl on the phone said the tech would call me Tuesday morning. I called back Tuesday noon because no one had reached out to us and the girl on the phone said to call back in the afternoon. Again in the afternoon a call was placed and the girl said the tech was not in but to bring the cat in on Wed 4 Oct 2023 at 7:00 – 7:15 AM, don’t feed the cat after 10PM on Tuesday night but water was okay.
I had to get time off from work (our day starts at 7:00 AM) to be at the hospital to drop off the cat. At 7:10 the girl working at PetSmart opened the door and said they should be in soon, at that same time a couple of techs showed up as I put the cat cage on the floor just inside the door, they said okay and took the cat and cage inside. Most of the day I was not with cell range where we were working, the first call I received was at 12:10. That is when I saw the 10 voicemails that had been left by the tech from Cedar Park hospital location.
When I called back she told me the vet had an emergency and was not able to do the surgery, I said that I understood and things happen. I told her I would be there at 5:30 after work as per agreed on Sunday. She proceeded to tell me that they were closing at 2PM and I HAD to pick the cat up before then. I told her I was at work, she said if I didn’t pick the cat up before 2PM she was going to call animal control and have them come and get the cat. This is MY cat, and this poorly trained tech is threatening me with Animal Control. The best example of a bad veterinary organization.

I had enrolled my three pets with Banfield for around two years. I was always going to the location in Coral Gables, Miami, FL because is the closest to me. I've been ok with the service because is convenient as they open during the weekends and I can get short-notice drop-off appointments. I took my ill cat recently and received a very bad welcome, inconsiderate treatment, and rudeness from the front desk women. My cat developed a condition that was not followed up there. They want you to pay upfront for test that might be unnecessary, and they will push you to pay it so that way your pet doesn't have to stay for more hours in a cage. The plan might have some advantages by covering some tests, treatments, and procedures but they will almost force you to use them ahead even if your pet doesn't need them and after that, you will have to keep paying for tests that are not covered by the plan.
I asked several times to both women that they were not veterinarians to be able to suggest tests and that I wanted the Dr to give a physical exam to my pet and go from there. In the end, I will probably end up paying more with them than with a regular vet. I was also forced to sign a release to give fly and tick medication to my ill cat in case "they find them" on her. They mentioned not to worry because they wouldn't apply any treatment if they didn't find anything on her. I explained that she is been treated by an internist doctor for a condition that is still unknown and somebody can make a mistake and put in jeopardy my cat's health. I also added that it is an indoor cat and that I won't sign something that I won't honor.
I refused to sign and they told me that they were not going to give my cat attention so I had to leave. I complained to "Banfield Cares" as I was told by an agent and they sent the Dr. Chief to call me and instead of making things better for me; she is defending her staff and putting in doubt my words. She mentioned using other locations or going back to this one and I WILL NEVER LEAVE MY PETS IN CHARGE OF PEOPLE LIKE THOSE TWO WOMEN. They are rude, and mean, and have no education or consideration for you or your pets. You Banfield are the worst. I rather pay regular prices and my three pets are going to be treated with respect, love, and dignity. About the customer service; forget about it. You have to wait for hours in order to talk to someone.

I would like to share 3 different experiences I have had with Banfield that have affected me directly or indirectly over the past few years. And before I get into this, I would like to share that I have been with Banfield for I would guess about a decade. I have defended them when others have talked badly. I defended them to my mother after they were responsible for her dog's death a few years ago. But my last experience with Banfield has set me on fire. The lack of care and the sheer laziness to figure out what is wrong with a pet that someone loves is simply not ok. I feel like it's important to make sure people know how dangerous Banfield is to the wellbeing of their pets.
1- 2017: My dog older dog had a mass removed. The surgical site became infected. I took him in to have it addressed. They gave me an antibiotic and sent me on my way. A few days later, I brought him in again, as the surgical site had become necrotic. They told me everything looked normal (although the smell was awful, and literally smelled like death). In hindsight, I definitely should have gone to the emergency room, but I took the vet at Banfield's word that this was the normal healing process.
A few days later, my dog was dying. I took him back, and they refused to see me, but I would not leave until they did. When they finally took him back, they told me I needed to prepare myself because he was dying. I don't need to explain why this is absolutely a horrific situation. They put a drain tube in him but told me he probably wouldn't make it. He by some miracle did make it (probably because I ended up taking him to the Emergency vet), but had he died it would have CLEARLY been on Banfield, and his suffering for those two weeks was definitely on Banfield. I knew something was wrong, I knew he was dying, and somehow their vet did not? What is going on here? How do you justify this?
2- 2016: My mother's dachshund ate something she shouldn't have. She had surgery to remove the item. Post-surgery, the dog's belly was distended and the dog was extremely lethargic. She was not healing. Mom took her dog in and told the vet something was wrong, and the vet insisted that everything was healing normally, and not to worry. This happened 2-3 times before the dog died. My mom knew something was wrong, but the vet didn't? Is it possible that the Banfield vets that incompetent? As in my first example, I do not need to explain why Banfield's actions are not just unacceptable, but heartbreaking and horrifyingly wrong.
3- 2022-2023: My current dog has been into a different location several times over the last couple years for a bad limp. I was very concerned as my dog is only 4 years old, and 2 years old when it started. I was sent away with "I don't see anything wrong with her'' every single time and thrown some ** to give her. The last time I was there I requested X-rays. I was told by the vet that X-rays would not show anything at all. Frustrated and defeated, I left again with no resolution.
This past month, I noticed my dog was struggling worse than ever before. I called my Banfield and asked if they could see her. They said they could not see her for about a month out (not unusual... it's impossible to get an appointment in any kind of reasonable timeframe). So I called another local vet, who got her in right away. The first thing the new vet did was give her an exam (something "Dr. Banfield" did not do ONCE in any of our visits). The vet said immediately something wasn't right, but she would need to do x-rays to confirm. After x-rays were done, it was "very apparent" my dog was injured and had a torn CCL, and to top it off, also had bony tissues and the start of arthritis from.... get this.... BEING INJURED FOR SO LONG and having done NOTHING ABOUT IT.
These are factual situations, that happened exactly as described. I am not exaggerating because I'm angry. I'm sharing this information because I can no longer defend or support any Banfield. I stayed with them for so long because I believe that everyone makes mistakes. Things happen sometimes unexpectedly, and I believe in forgiveness and second chances. But three different serious issues that have all impacted me and 4 different dogs that I've cared about is just too much. There's no excuse or reason for that kind of negligence. I have done a good bit research and asking around and found that I'm not alone. This is apparently par for the course for Banfield.
When I asked to cancel my wellness plan, they refused to cancel it without huge fees. Even that shows their greed, and unwillingness to take responsibility. I will not use them again, as I can't trust any vet at any Banfield location to do what's right. I don't know if it's because they hire incompetent, lazy vets, or if they are overworked, or just uncaring, but it is WRONG and it is DANGEROUS. PLEASE protect your pet's safety, health, and long-term wellbeing by not choosing Banfield as your vet provider.

I’ve had each of my pets on the Banfield wellness plan. No, it is not Insurance. It is discounted services so long as you use each of those services in that wellness plan. Took my new puppy in there last Wednesday in Cale Coral, FL and I had to say hello to the receptionist because she was on her phone. I put my dog on the scale and she was going to mark an inaccurate weight because she was rushing to check us in. Once I got Gypsy to sit, she was 1.5lbs less than what she wanted to mark in her chart. Mind you, that weight is what the doctors use when giving the correct dosages of medications and vaccines. Then she put me in a room.
Some girl came in with no introduction, didn’t know what she was talking about, didn’t even acknowledge my dog and all she cared about was which wellness plan I was paying for. I had to repeat myself over and over again with what vaccines she already had and another issue and then she took her in the back for a fecal test. She brought her back and said, "OK they are getting the vaccines ready and I’ll be back to grab her in a minute once we have the test results back." I asked about the belly rash and she forgot to ask the doctor. I said ok, I’ll ask when the doctor comes in. She told me that the doctors don’t come out and meet the pet owners. I told her that was ridiculous and she was not taking my dog back there until the doctor came to talk with me.
A doctor and nurse came in with vaccines in their hands, again with no introduction, rushed over my concern about the rash, and said I could purchase medicated wipes, double checked which wellness plan I was going to be purchasing, and by then I was so frustrated that I told them not to vaccinate her. Their demeanors quickly shifted and they became defensive and left.
So then another girl came into the room, again no introduction, and told me what the cost was and I said no, I’m not signing her up for a plan. I will begrudgingly pay for this office visit and fecal test. She said when they took her back the first time they gave her a dewormer so I have to pay for that too. I did not approve of anything other than the fecal so I won’t pay for that and she said that I should have just known since I was going to sign up for the wellness plan that they would start any services on there. She was blaming me! How unprofessional!
I told her that I would never come back to Banfield and we’re ready to go! I asked for the names of the doctor and nurse that came in and she said Dr. ** and Heather. It’s a different doctor listed on her paperwork. Hmm. I told her how unprofessional and inconsiderate everyone had been there from the moment I arrived and she showed no concern for what I was saying.
They have zero care for the pet and only care about the $. Before, you would meet the doctors, nurses, etc. They would say hello to you and your pet and interact with them to make them feel comfortable. Now, it’s so corporate that they can’t be bothered to step into the rooms to meet us. It’s pathetic. They should be ashamed of themselves. These are living beings and we shouldn’t be treated as if we’re going through a drive-through and that’s exactly how it felt. Impersonible, rushed, uninvested and disingenuous.

They renewed your plan while told you they turned it off for you. Last year, I enrolled my two kittens in the Optimum Wellness Plan at your hospital. This plan was supposed to provide comprehensive healthcare for my pets, including vaccinations. Unfortunately, my credit card on file expired, causing me to miss two monthly payments. I was informed of this issue when I contacted Banfield Hospital, and I was told that I needed to make the two missing payments in order to regain access to the services covered by the plan.
On September 20th, I brought my kittens to the hospital, fully prepared to make the required payments and have them receive their vaccinations. However, I was met with unexpected complications. The staff informed me that my kitten wellness plan had already expired, and I would need to renew it for another year to be eligible for the free vaccines. This was not communicated to me previously, and it came as a surprise. I expressed my decision not to renew the wellness plan at that time and was informed that it had been turned off for me. I was then instructed to pay the past dues for the two months I had missed, which I promptly did.
Moreover, on that visit, I inquired about vaccinating my kittens, and the hospital staff informed me that since I had decided not to renew the wellness plan, I would need to pay approximately $400 for their vaccinations as someone without a wellness plan. This information led to my decision to bring my cats back without proceeding with any treatments, as I was under the impression that I was no longer on the wellness plan and would be charged separately for vaccines.
Now, to my dismay, I have been informed that Banfield Hospital is still attempting to charge me for a new year's wellness plan, despite my explicit decision not to renew it. When I called the hospital to rectify this issue, I was told that they could not cancel the plan for me, and I would need to contact your billing department. This lack of assistance and accountability from the hospital is unacceptable. Furthermore, I was informed that the hospital had not canceled the plan for me, despite the previous assurance that it had been turned off.
I find this situation to be not only frustrating but also entirely unfair. I was never informed during the initial enrollment that the wellness plan would automatically renew for another year. Moreover, when I visited the hospital on September 20th, I was explicitly told that I was no longer on the plan and needed to pay extra for vaccines. This information directly contradicts the current situation where I am being charged for a plan I have explicitly declined.

We got more attitude from the front office staff. One argued that we didn't call them, while the other let out a heavy sigh and said she'd see if the vet could look at our dog. Avoid this plan or CANCEL it early for your senior dogs - most issues in our senior dogs they sent us to fully out of pocket specialists and are charging us the remaining 10 months of the plan after the passing of our dog. We recently lost our 12 year old boy from a sudden stroke last month. His wellness plan renewed a month or so before he passed.
In our time of grief, the last thing we wanted to do was have to call and formally cancel his Banfield Wellness plan because he had had it since he was 4 months old; we even got the premium one as he aged. Never missed a payment, never had an outstanding balance. So, you can imagine our horror that when we finally got around to it, we were informed that it would cost $900 to cancel it at this time since it was "early termination." When explaining that this wasn't a choice or switching to another vet/insurance etc... the response was "it was in the contract you signed."
As a comparison point, the annual cost is about $1100... so we had 2ish months after it renewed before he passed. They refused to pro-rate/relinquish the rest claiming it was to cover "services provided under the plan" but unfortunately, I no longer have my best friend by my side to use those "provided services" again in the future - so if it roughly $100/month... they can easily just accept the $200ish dollars to cover those 2ish months. But they refuse.

This company is a total fraud so buyer beware if you love your furry kids, their so called optimum wellness plan is a scam. After your pet passes away and you try to cancel this plan they tell you, "Well your pet had this and that done and you’ve only paid this much in premiums thus far and you owe us," I found out the hard way that they did not actually perform a physical exam on my dog, had they actually had they would have found that he had a issue with his heart that caused his death not long after his so called physical. Their wellness plan is nothing more than a pre paid plan and not insurance. My wife takes her dog to another vet an actual vet that charged her $50.00 for a Cushings test while Banfield charged me $90.00 and said that was the plan price. So my recommendation to anyone stay far away from this company if you love your pets.

After taking him two times for the same issue, they still did not know how or what his skin condition was. The second visit kept him for 8 hours only to say they had not gotten a chance to see him till I was in the waiting room. When trying to cancel the plan for horrible care, it cost me another $250 to break the plan. I requested a cancellation of my wellness plan and was told that when we cancel a wellness plan before the end of the current plan year, there are two options to choose from. Clients can pay for the services used or the rest of the wellness plan, whichever is less. For my dog it broke down as:
Installments paid to date = $610.80
Remaining balance for services = $698.74
Remaining wellness plan payments = $305.40
So, either I would need to pay $305.40 or just continue the monthly installments until end of December when the "contract" was up. Insane.

The Wellness plan kept increasing in price every couple of months, and without telling you, they would change the plan renewal date. Of course he immediately began to scream in pain and try to get out. But the door locked when it closes and I couldn’t get my card out fast enough. So he ran and it actually amputated 2 to 2 1/2 inches of his tail.
I called the Banfield nearest to me and they told me they could see him in six or seven hours, I called the next closest one and they could see him tomorrow. I then went to a local vet closer to my home. My dog required, anesthesia, and IV, surgery, cauterization, bandages, and was sent home with four medications. They are a total, total, total waste. Please if you love your animal, go elsewhere. The only reason I chose them is my job requires me to travel 250 days a year, and I thought it would just be easier to have all my records there. You are just not paying everything upfront. They tally up everything your pet has ever got/needed and charge you a little bit upfront and then keep your total amount for when you try to cancel your plan. So it's a never ending cycle, once you stop being a customer of theirs that's when you get your big bill for "all of the services your pet has needed" and you have no choice but to pay off your debt that they have given to you.
And you never know when your plan ends because they NEVER even call you to let you know, or ask if you want to continue renewing. All they do is continue billing you and collecting their money. I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone. Makes sense why they are in a lawsuit against their wellness plans for absolutely scamming people!!!!

The Pet wellness plans they offer are total scams. Read the small print. I have been with them for almost 2 years and haven't needed them for anything until my dog went blind. She is 10 years old and was told she has sudden blind syndrome. That isn't the problem, she wasn't feeling good so I called Banfield to schedule an appointment to see my girl, since they knew her history and been taking care of her for 2 years. The person on the phone said they don't see dogs for health issues, only take care of them if it is a issue that they have on their scheduled appointment for shots or teeth cleaning, that they would take care of her if they saw something. That they don't make appointments just to see dogs or any pets if they're sick, that I needed to go to AN EMERGENCY care vet or another vet for that matter. So I've been paying $48 a month for them to give my 10 year old dog her annual shots. That is a total scam and should be closed down for that racket they have going on.
Then it's a nightmare to close your accounts. They add up all the visits and things you had done that you never would have done, like excessive bloodwork, monthly worm test and many other things that dog owners generally don't get done, They make it like because it'd covered you should do it. What they mean is if you cancel this you will pay all of this in full.
Folks just be aware. When you drop off your dog they never take you in the room, they schedule it so you have to leave your dog and come back later to get them, who knows if they are even doing any work, they definitely try to get you to do blood work and every other thing not covered by your plan. And after I cancelled my plan I closed all my bank cards so they wouldn't keep charging my card, even though I paid the amount they told me to pay for cancelling. Yet somehow they managed to get my new account number. That is fraud and my credit card company is taking care of that. Beware of this scammer. They have a 1.2% on a 5% out of a five % of people that would recommend them or would ever return. Add two of us to their bad numbers. Hope you all will follow before you get scammed and are disappointed. They took money out of my business account which was unauthorized.

Hard to say something that hasn't been said 1000 times on here already.
1. My dog has a limp after running hard and not having had much exercise for a few weeks prior. They suggest she has the equivalent of a torn ACL because she doesn't want to put her back leg down when she walks. They want to do surgery to correct it but offered no plans to do an MRI and see what is actually wrong. Huge red flag!
2. Dog had an ear infection. I went through meds and cleaning and she is fine but every time I visit they do an ear swab and charge me $45 and then sign her up for a follow up in two weeks. And lo and behold EVERY TIME they find traces of yeast and charge me another $50 for meds.
3. I had a credit card compromised and when I went to the website to update it, the website froze, glitched, and said "sorry we are experiencing difficulties" and then tried to process my old card, which resulted in a $20 fee for failed processing of my card. Their approach is... Since it's in the contract, there is no waiver. They will NOT work with you because they know the contract is iron clad and they don't have to. I asked nicely for an exception and was trying to pay my bill on time, which it always has been. But nope. Contracts.
4. When I first tried Banfield Wellness plan, I wasn't happy with the location I went to so I opted out of renewal. Well guess what, they didn't honor that and set me up for another 12 months of service. And again, because contracts, I was stuck paying.
5. Stupid me decided a few years later to try again with my new dog. Nothing but problems. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... Well you know. DON'T BE FOOLED!

I've been a Banfield member for over 8 years and have two pets covered under their wellness plan. The good thing about Banfield is there are many locations to choose from so when they are booked for long periods of time (as they usually are), we can choose a different location. The bad thing about Banfield is they seem to be more about the money and less about your pet's health or customer service. Recently I had the worst experience ever during a visit to Edina, MN Banfield. It started with an urgent appointment for a cat that was vomiting and lethargic. We thought she may have eaten something poisonous outside.
Problem #1. They didn't have an in-person appointment so we dropped off our cat and gave all the information to the already overwhelmed front desk person. Unfortunately, the front desk person did not write down that our cat had been outside and we were concerned that she may have eaten something (btw, I repeated this many times).
Problem #2. Although we pay over $100 per month for a cat and a dog on their wellness program, Banfield is always trying to get us to pay more at every visit. They use well-known sales techniques including making you feel guilty. Knowing this, I've learned to take things slow and ask for one step at a time rather than everything all at once. When Dr. ** called she recommended testing. Some tests were covered under our plan, but about $400 was not. I opted to start with what was covered under our plan and see what we learned before paying $400. This was not what they wanted to hear.
Problem #3. I got a call to pick up our cat. When I arrived, they had two medications for $70. One for acid reflux and another to calm the gut. No mention of the plan to do the other tests, no mention of the continued vomiting, and no mention of what to do about the fact that she may not be able to eat/drink to take the meds. I foolishly put my trust in this Banfield that they had listened to our concerns and that they knew better than me.
Problem #4. Four hours later our cat was much worse. I called Banfield and it was then that I found out that the front desk person had not mentioned she had been outside. I was furious! I felt she had been misdiagnosed and we had been given $70 worth of meds based on this misdiagnosis. Not only that but after reviewing the test results I discovered that only one of the two tests was able to be performed and the test result was negative. If this was the case why didn’t the doctor get back to me and continue with our plan to go to the next step and get more testing? They couldn't get us in for another appointment.
Problem #5. We ultimately ended up in the Pet Emergency Hospital. $3,000 later we discovered the problem stemmed from a hairball stuck in the small intestine. Thankfully the pet hospital was able to help our cat and give her fluids until she could naturally pass the hairball. They did the right thing by telling us our choices every step of the way, the pros and cons, and the costs. At one point it was very touch and go and it looked like surgery might be needed. If it had, the total bill would have been around $10,000! If the hospital handled the situation as Edina Banfield did either our cat would be dead because wouldn't shell out $10,000 right away or we'd be paying $10,000 for a surgery that could be avoided if we worked together and took things step-by-step.
Problem #6. I tried to explain all this to the area manager of the Edina Banfield, she was having none of it. I should never have asked to get the $70 reimbursed because from that point forward that’s all she fixated on. Ultimately, I wanted her to see that they could make improvements in their process at Banfield. When emotions ran too high for us to communicate properly, she told me she’d have her area chief, Dr. **, contact me.
Problem #7. Dr. ** did contact me and left me a voice message without a callback number stating that she had reviewed the medical records and Dr. ** had made all the appropriate medical recommendations and they could not provide any refunds. Funny enough I was not contacting her about a refund, I was contacting her about the customer service at Edina Banfield. It's interesting how this was missed in the message to Dr. **.
Having read my story, I just want you to consider how YOU would feel about Banfield. Would you trust them? Would you feel confident taking your pets to them? Do you think they value their customers or customer service?

I've been using Banfield for years. Before the pandemic, they were somewhat reliable: they had walk-in appointments and they kept my pets healthy while they were on the wellness plan. I loved how it included yearly bloodwork and other basic necessities. That said, they have been awful since the pandemic started. They barely have room for walk-in appointments so it's almost all drop offs, and if you have aging pets, they really don't have the skills or equipment to handle advanced care. Invest in a better pet insurance that you can bring your pet to a true animal hospital.
Banfield doesn't even carry a proper ultrasound machine that can detect cancer. My cat received regular "care" from Banfield, and had they included scanning for cancer and other terminal illnesses as part of their regular care, we might have caught it in time. In a pinch, Banfield is fine. They give prescriptions for very basic needs. But please, whatever you do, do not use them for anything serious, and do not use them if your pet is aging. They do not do advanced care. It's been a waste of my money and I lost a pet because they failed to detect something in her body that was likely there for years.

Another customer intervened and asked if they could put Chanel in a kennel until the system comes back up. She said, “no, we can’t do that. I am instructed to say that the system is down and we will have to reschedule Chanel.” I do not know what the real issue was but it was not done in a professional way.
My issue was that they allowed me to drive over an hour and to give me the message that my dog would not receive treatment. She had a paw-nail that had broken and needed it look over by a professional. She was also due for comprehensive exam. I left in disappointment for Banfield in Rock Hill, SC. We purchased the wellness plan for 5 of our dogs over the span of 4 years. We decided to cancel for several reasons. 1) I felt like our dogs were constantly at the vet for "checkups" and shots. Our one dog has allergies and the medicine they had him on did not work. Every time we took him back, they kept wanting to give him the same medicine. My husband and I decided that they are probably just charging up the insurance companies and were beginning to question it. Then we purchased a home out of State and decided, that will be when we cancel for all the dogs.
We called in and they stated the contract that we don't remember them ever discussing renews automatically every 12 months so if we want to cancel before the contract ends, we will be charged for all the services that they have had. Like if they haven't already received enough money from our monthly payments as well as them charging the insurance! I will never do this wellness plan again nor will I recommend it!

Avoid this scam at all costs!!! They push the "pet wellness" plan. We signed up for it after ONE visit. We paid the bill for that one visit that day, and then decided not to do the monthly charges. Yes, as reviewers have said, they REFUSE to cancel!! Even if you haven't even used the "services" yet. I had my bank refuse the charges, and Banfield still kept calling, harassing, and mailing me!! Their representative actually just said, "You borrowed money from us!!" What in the mafia kind of "company" is this?? Everyone who has been scammed by this company needs to do a class-action lawsuit against them. They KNOW what they're doing, and they will do it as long as they get away with it.

If anyone signs their contract and they move out of service area or pet dies they continue to collect! They are a scam!!! We moved out of state and saw the Dr 1 time only for shots and then got relocated and they refused to cancel policy. And another person's dog died and they also refused to cancel contract!!!

Zero stars for their wellness plan and lack of sensitivity. My Labrador passed away during the weekend and was told I had to call to cancel the wellness plan because it couldn't be done at the hospital. The front desk representative was courteous, but did not know Banfield's customer services hours and told me I could call that same day to cancel the plan (Saturday). I called and got a voicemail explaining that they only work form Monday to Friday. I called them again today Monday and agree to cancel my plan but had to charge me for another month. The next payment was due on March 19, so I asked them if they could prorate. I explained that it's not that I wanted to cancel the plan, but it was needed because my dog had passed away. Her response, "all cancellations are treated the same" so I had to pay for the whole month, otherwise I could have not cancel my plan and would keep being charged monthly.

If I'm paying you $40 a month, that money should go towards any expenses i accumulate when I visit, for any treatment that needs to be done. How is it I still have to pay $150 for some blood work to be done? That's not including treatment and prescriptions that come with the diagnosis. I'll be canceling when the contract is up.

This is not pet care, this is profits. The fact that they don't have in room appointments and you have to drop your dogs off is your first clue this is a scam. No one ever goes over comprehensive exams performed, lab work value results, etc. I was told to refer to the visit summary they print out. I'm not a vet so why is no one consulting with me? I would stay far away from Banfield. It's a joke they are still even in business. They should be THOROUGHLY investigated.

I have been under Banfield for last 10+ years with my dog Twinkie. I took my pet for dental check in Dec 2022 and was told he was fine even though he screamed while eating. I left with a $300 bill which is normal as I have never gone in and not been up sold or told he needs this and that even on routine check ups. My dog continued to yelp while eating, I called back to location to make another appt for dental check, got in 2/2/2023, doctor called and said she could see anything, then called back 30 min later to say he has 2 severely infected teeth that need removal.
I asked why wasn’t that noticed on last visit, the so called dental doctor stumbled and could not support a legitimate reason why it was overlooked. I was told 259 a tooth, the bill was over 667$ upon arrival. I asked to cancel service and was told it’s a 30 min wait on phone to cancel so I can wait or go home and wait. ** Really piss, poor service, butchers only care about add on sales, worst location ever. Don’t use, pays 55 a month to always have a 300$ + bill every visit.

They sell you the service as you pay and get free services. There is a charge with every visit. Canceled my subscription, they charge my account because apparently it is automatic renewal.Asked for the automatic renewal to be taken off, they refused, saying I am not the one signed for the service and refuse to tell me who signed up so I can ask them to call and cancel. This scam outlet has been charging my credit card for years after my dogs have died.

Can you imagine owning a company with the intent to care for pets and then falling in love with profit so much that you emphasize and train your locations to be sales focused more than care focused? They seemingly make little effort to prioritize customer communication and willingly watch clients leave? Google about any Banfield location and note that each facility has 3.5 stars, barely passing customer satisfaction.
Holding on and not willing to change the wellness plan exit strategy so that a pet owner has to continue to pay for a plan long after their pet has passed away, is nefarious. (Not speaking of myself, just an actual fact you'll see in the reviews.) The wellness plan is not a wellness plan. It's a discount plan on limited services similar to having a discount membership to a fast food chain. It's an "if this then that" tool to leverage commitment to services and treatments that your pet doesn't need and keep you tethered to their company.
Ever made an appointment for a shot or gland expunge only to hear them tell you that your pet needs something else? Really think it through. Why do they do this at every appointment? Money. 40 Billion in sales annually. 37 Billion in revenue. The company was first owned by MARS candy. Let that sink in. They have been buying out pet care facilities since their inception.
Leadership is top down. If you've had an appointment change without notice, cancelled, or left sitting in a room for a technician to blitz and confuse you to add services that increase your bill, you're experiencing a profit machine led by the company's board and leadership team. It's just a really sad organization that templates every interaction to make money. It's not even a customer care focused formula it's just a predatory practice that uses your love for your pet against you. You and your pet are cattle at Banfield. If you're a veterinary graduate, start your own facility, or you'd be better off selling cars. They will break you of your calling to love animals. My soul would die even if I was just working the front desk.
I can only think of cable companies in the late 90's when it comes to the same reputation as Banfield and I rarely feel frustrated enough to write a review and here I am seething with anger after my latest experience at a Banfield location. Do not @ me in the response with a generic "Sorry to hear that or we strive to...." Just change. Do better.

My husband and I bought a small puppy and went to Banfield Pet Hospital and registered him. They gave us a clean bill of health and came home. 3 days later he started having diarrhea and we took him back to the hospital. After testing, we were told he had 2 Intestinal Bacterial Infection and we had to buy different medications including Antibiotics. His health got worst and he started to loose his appetite day by day. We took him back and the Vet/Doctor told us he's much better and one of the infections are gone... While he was still under medication, they Vaccinated him.
After that visit his health got worst and so did his appetite. I kept calling Banfield and they told me to wait and give it time and the Doctor would call me back. Again we went to Banfield and at that point we were told there is nothing they can do at this time and that he would get better. My beautiful 10 week old puppy which at that point weight less than a pound died in my arms. It was Horrifying. I urge everyone to please don't take your pets to Banfield pet Hospital so God forbid you don't go through what I experienced.

While everyone at Banfield Pet Hospital in Rockaway NJ is very nice, I wouldn't recommend them. I called to find out what the cost would be for my 2 cats to get their shots, rabies and distemper. I was told that it would be between $120 and $130. They neglected to tell me that there is both an examination fee and office visit fee which brought the bill to over $260.00. It is absolutely disgusting that it cost me more than double what I had budgeted. Terrible business practice!!!!

I am extremely unhappy with how my family’s whole experience has been with the financial situation at Banfield. The uncooperative, unyielding “assistance” on every level really surprised me negatively (except the helpful staff actually at the hospital who just don’t have the ability to do anything to help with the account - THEY deserve a raise for what they do to try to help). My son, who was 14 when he got the dog and then gave it to my daughter who has had it for years, received a collections letter with a ding on his credit report of 25 points, stating that he had a delinquent account for a whopping $651. He had not been caring for the dog for many years.
My daughter and her husband had paid off the final bill (of just $140) for the dog’s last services March 28th, 2022 and closed the account. The person with whom my daughter spoke on the phone verified the account was clear, all was paid off, and it was now closed. However, Banfield somehow managed to open the account again. My son-in-law said they had asked him to sign a receipt at the last appointment and we are thinking that ended up being a contract. Now we find out that they have to pay $651 for absolutely nothing. No services for the dog. No vaccines. Not even a toenail clipping because they didn’t even know they had a wellness plan since they had intended (and it had been confirmed with the last communication my daughter had made) that this had been closed and they were good.
No effort has been made to reach out to get the bill paid, even with an email and cell phone. Banfield just simply send the account to collections. Unbelievable. Had we known this was an issue, we would have used the wellness plan, albeit begrudgingly because we thought it was cancelled. But we would have wanted our money’s worth. Again, we didn’t even know there was an open account because of how this went down. We never even used the services. Does anyone in billing care about that? Not in the slightest. No efforts have been made to believe any of my family who have tried to get something fixed. This is theft and deceit, in the form of a signed contract and there’s nothing we can do because the wonderful, amazingly understanding billing people could only repeat, “Well, I have a signed contract here.”
I’m insulted, very angry, and disgusted with this business for being so deceiving and for making absolutely no effort to make this right for the customer. When it comes to Banfield Pet Hospital, I unequivocally will encourage people to go elsewhere if they want to hang on to their wallets. Nobody cares in the billing departments or at corporate in the financing department. It’s just, “There’s a signed contract.” So no effort to help or make it right. The principle of this thing is a lot more important to me than even the $651. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! TAKE YOUR PET TO A DIFFERENT PET CARE FACILITY if you want to hold on to your money. They won’t listen to you or try to make it right. I have spoken with several people and was flat out accused of lying.
