We got an annual plan for our pooch, we have been trying cancel it for almost a year! They keep trying to bill us! Had to even cancel the bank card they had on file! The staff at the facilities have nothing to do with the plans and can't help! The phone call goes to some other country and they tell ya one thing then tell ya another! The plans they don't want to cancel so they make it damn near impossible for you to do so! They are complete HORSEDUNG to deal with. Take your pet somewhere else!!

My cat, Charlotte was a client of Crawford Dog and Cat for many years before Banfield bought them out. As a regular patient, and aside from her latter years hyperthyroidism, Charlotte was healthy and I cared for her well. She was also a boarder at Banfield whenever we traveled, and once when we moved, she was there for 3 months. Thousands of dollars. We were made to believe that Charlotte was a favored patient and that the staff cared. Aside from a very special vet tech who always took care of our kitty, it seems that no one else actually did care. At the age of 18, Charlotte began showing signs of distress on Oct. 15, 2023. I brought her to Banfield for a confirmed appointment on Oct. 25. I was told there was no one to see her, since they were all doing dental scalings!! Eventually, a doctor saw us. She didn't even read Charlotte's history, until I told her to.
I willingly agreed to $564 worth of blood tests, shots, and hydration, and was told I would hear the bloodwork results within two days. By Oct. 27, Charlotte was in great distress and not eating or drinking. I called Banfield and was told the tests weren't in yet. I called all morning of Oct. 28 and NO ONE ANSWERED. I brought her to another vet (West Hills in Huntington: EXCELLENT) and they called Banfield for the bloodwork for three hours, but no one answered. Final result: I authorized new bloodwork for another $500, and got it immediately from West Hills. Not ready to let Charlotte go, I went home with her and cared for her until Monday, when her state was clearly irreversible. We were taken care of humanely and compassionately at West Hills, and Charlotte died in my arms.
The following Saturday, November 4, a doctor from Banfield called with the bloodwork results, FIVE DAYS AFTER MY CAT HAD DIED!!! She said they were in her mailbox and hadn't been seen. Stay as far away from Banfield as you can. Horrible place that is interested only in money. They never even called to offer some sympathy to me. West Hills sent cards and even Nationwide Pet Insurance sent condolences. There is one excellent vet tech at Crawford/Banfield, but I hope she leaves soon. This place is the worst!!!

I have had Banfield Wellness Plan insurance for many years. For the most part, I was very satisfied with the services offered and the monetary savings. My pet recently passed. I called to cancel my insurance and to my surprise, I was told that although I am no longer in need of their insurance, I need to continue paying $75/month until my yearly renewal is up in April 2024. In short, I'm being charged for 6 months of insurance when obviously, I'm no longer in need of. This is to me is insane. Why should I be paying for insurance I'm no longer using?
At the time I purchased the Banfield pet insurance, I was not made aware of this clause. Since this is a practice that Banfield is obviously is getting away with, the least they can do is ensure that all Banfield employees are trained to inform their clients of this stipulation in their Wellness plan. And to top it all, I was supposed to get my ashes two weeks from putting my pet to sleep. It has been over six weeks and I'm still waiting to receive them. I find it hard to believe it would take that long. By the time I get them, based on my experience, I doubt very much they will actually be the ashes of my fur pet. But in my heart, and for peace of mind, I will need to pretend they will be.

Took my dog in for a shot. Appointment was at 3:00. They took him back and gave him the shot and was done within 3 minutes. They charged me $80 for the shot and another $80 for an office visit and exam. How much of an exam could they had done in 3 minutes to charge $80. If you are going to screw your customers over with that cost at least take some time so we feel you did something to earn the charge.

Buried deep in the endless contract it says it says you have to keep paying every month for a year, even when my dog died at their hands in the first month. UNBELIEVABLE. They killed my dog and then wanted me to keep paying for another 11 months. Then they tried to wreck my credit.

BEWARE OF BANFIELD PET HOSPITALS NATIONWIDE IN THE USA!!! TRULY A NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! I feel compelled to share my harrowing experience with Banfield Pet Hospital in hopes of preventing other pet owners from going through the same TRAUMATIC ordeal. My beloved super healthy 4 year old dog suffered immensely due to their negligence and protocols or should I say lack of, including lack of proper care.
My nightmare began when I took my pet to Banfield for a routine dental cleaning, his first one and most likely last one. No dental issues, just a routine cleaning. Little did I know that this seemingly simple procedure would turn into a life threatening situation. My dog was overdosed, with excessive anesthesia as "prescribed by their protocols" which lead to complications after and a prolonged recovery process of 3 + days. He almost didn't make it. What shocked me even more was the hospital and corporate blatant disregard for my pet's well being. It became so evident that their protocols were driven by FINANCIAL GAIN rather than the health and safety of the animals in their care. It is DISHEARTENING to witness a facility like this prioritize PROFIT over the LIVES OF INNOCENT PETS.
Despite my attempts to seek resolution and accountability from Banfield CORPORATE team and office, I have been met with silence and indifference for days. The lack of communication and empathy from their end only adds insult to injury and it is clear that they DO NOT VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS or the WELL BEING of THE ANIMALS entrusted to their care. Yesterday I finally got a call from chief vet for Banfield stating "they have made a mistake and are aware of bad reputation, bad reviews, issues with customer service and are working on it and will try to resolve this situation".
Furthermore, my experience is not an isolated incident. COUNTLESS NEGATIVE reviews from MANY other pet owners echo my sentiments, highlighting a pattern of subpar practices and service that are questionable at Banfield NATIONWIDE. It is alarming to see so many pet owners share similar stories of mistreatment, negligence and unethical and unprofessional service only concerned for their own profits and more $$$!
I implore ALL PET OWNERS to THINK TWICE before entrusting their furry companions to ANY BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL. The risks and potential harm OUTWEIGH ANY CONVENIENCE or COST SAVINGS they may offer with their insurance plans. Our pet's safety and well being should always be the top priority and it is crucial to choose a facility that upholds those values which Banfield Pet Hospitals do not.
In conclusion, my experience has been nothing short of a NIGHTMARE. I urge you to consider alternative options and do your research on any of their facilities before making a decision. Your pet's health and happiness are too precious to be compromised by a HOSPITAL THAT PRIORITIZES PROFIT OVER THE PET'S WELL BEING.

My name is Teresa **, I use Banfield Pet hospitals for the past ten years. The staff at the Banfield in Mount Laurel NJ is in general a good staff. My problem is not the hospitals’ staff. My issue is the same issue that the 98% of the customers who are using this way to communicate how terrible the corporate staff is. Like many others one of my dearest pets passed away last November 26, 2023. At Banfield in Mount Laurel NJ the staff knew my dog Cupcake and they always provided her with the attention and care she deserved. However, today I called the customer service phone number to cancel my dog’s plan and keep my other dog’s plan active. The customer service representative told me that I had to pay $500 to cancel the contract because it recently got renew. I couldn't believe was I was hearing. It’s not I was requesting a cancelation just because. I requested the cancelation because my dog passed away. It makes no sense at all.
I know the CEO Mony Lyer took over the messy corporation about a year ago. I think Mr. Lyer, you need to READ all these horrible reviews (that are well deserved by the way) and STOP ignoring what you are doing wrong. You are stealing from pet parents who are mourning their dear pets and you and your corporate staff continuing sucking the money out of us. Really it makes no sense to pay for a service that a pet will never receive because the pet passed away. You should create an exception on your old fashion “ wellness plan”, and don’t charge money to those who their pets are dead. Due to my horrible experience I’m even planning to take my other dog off the plan (of course I’m pretty sure I will have to pay some moneyyyy as well), and look for a better place to do business with.

A few months ago we took in my childhood cat due to my father being unable to take care of her, and put her on the senior plan. Not only were her vet visits still costly, but sometimes they would double charge me for a month and I would end up paying 120 dollars for her despite no vet visits. Last week she took a turn for the worse, and we ended up with a 800 dollar bill despite the wellness plan (which really, it didn't cover a damn thing) and she ended up passing away Monday that same week. I cancelled her wellness plan, still got charged. Sat on the phone for an hour on hold only for them to tell me I owed six more months of payments on her plan, droning on over me while I was weeping and telling me I still had to pay for "services rendered" and finish off the plan despite the fact that my cat is dead.
So now I get to throw money at the grim reaper and be reminded of my sweet old lady cat's death for six months, paying for her corpse essentially. Terribly handed, dehumanizing, ripped the wound of grief and pain right back open and after paying for months and months of no services, I get to chuck 360 dollars into a garbage disposal for a cat that I can't hold anymore, can't love anymore, can't see anymore. I had to watch her die, and now I get to spend six more months paying for services she will never receive, after wasting an hour of my time waiting for some corporate loser to read a script at me. Not worth it. Not worth it at all.

Banfield is a scam!!!! 9/28 my 5 year old Bernese mountain dog had his comprehensive exam which included 40 labs and everything came back normal. This new doctor did his work up and essentially called me a bad dog owner for opting out of tick medication (because we had so many ticks in Seattle during winter). I opted out for it because one of my dogs had a severe allergic reaction to it and I didn’t want to risk my 2 other dogs (one being his litter mate) potentially having any kind of reaction. Within 2 weeks of the comprehensive exam, my Berner, Benji, started getting a really bad cough that would turn into wheezing then hacking. After a few days of it not clearing up, I set an appt up for 11/9 (took 2 weeks to get an appt in) and it was the same dr who did Benji's comprehensive exam. She did his assessment and said everything looked and sounded good.
I tried to show her a 15 second video of my dog coughing and she watched maybe 5 seconds of it and said that’s all she needed to see. I SPECIFICALLY asked if he had anything stuck in his throat or if he had aspirated and she said, "No everything looks good, he has a cold." Sent me home with antibiotics and cough medicine (cost was roughly $130 for meds). By day 3, his cough was getting worse and thankfully the people at the front desk were able to get me an X-ray within 2 days. 11/14 xray and lymph node biopsy is done. A different vet at Banfield told me she sees something in his throat that could be lodged in there, did another set of X-rays and it was actually enlarged lymph nodes (cost was roughly $950). 11/15 lymph nodes came back cancerous and had already began spreading to his lungs.
I have a scheduled at home euthanasia for my 5 year old Berner. I tried to cancel my Optimum wellness plan for Benji and now they’re saying that because the services I used cost $1044.32, Installments paid to date = $179.80, Remaining balance for services = $864.52, Remaining wellness plan payments = $359.60. I essentially have to either pay for the $359.60 upfront or continue Benji’s insurance until 07/05/2024 when his yearly renewal is up. I’ve called the 888 number twice, the first gentleman was absolutely ATROCIOUS. He was condescending and whenever I asked for a breakdown of number he became more rude and short and began raising his voice at me and refused to transfer me to a different associate. The second associate put me on hold for 5 minutes and never came back. READ YOUR BANFIELD CONTRACT!!! THEY PUT IT IN THE POLICY THAT IT’LL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW!!
This new vet also tried to charge me $200 for an anti nausea shot for my dog Hodor when he had pancreatitis when his only symptom was diarrhea and $150 for gastrointestinal food. She told me the total for everything was $900 and I asked her to break down the pricing for me. She was going to charge me for all of these things without even asking me if I wanted new food or the shot.

They keep refusing to cancel my service, and keep attempting to say I somehow owe hundreds of dollars in fees if THEY DO cancel even though I've taken my dog in for a SINGLE check-up with no procedures done, she was going to have a dental cleaning but couldn't because of a heart condition, so NOW they keep scheduling dental cleanings for her without my permission. This place is a plague and a pox to anyone who loves their pets and seeks the highest quality care, avoid them at all costs. I wouldn't even give them 1 star, but there's no option for 0 stars.

April 9th, 2013 I started the "wellness plan" and paying the monthly fee for an 8week old Boxer mix puppy I had just gotten. Initially good care and treatment (at the Belton, Mo vet, now closed). Forward to September 2023. My now 10 yr dog started having issues with back legs seeming to be getting weak/unable to support him. Had to take him to the Overland Park, Ks vet where he was diagnosed Canine degenerative myelopathy, and informed that his plan would not cover x-rays, cat scan and other test. Without completing the test and shots our appointment was for, was rushed to leave and told They would contact me for follow-up and have shots given then.
Today is November 13th, 2023 and I contacted the Overland Park Banfield to inform them my dog had passed the 12th and requested cancellation of "wellness plan" and am being told that my pet's death does not matter. That I still owe for the plans 12 months payments since the plan just renewed November 6th. Or I could pay them $60 and they would cancel our contract. Just wanted to let others know that the "wellness plan" is not what it is presented as. Be positive of what you're paying for and that it truly covers full health care. And lastly, what sort of company or person bills and expects payment after being informed the covered being has died.

I do not recommend this business anywhere in the US if you love your pet!! This place is horrible, very unorganized, staff is confused about everything along with the wellness plan cancellation customer service staff. Earlier this month on a Thursday I scheduled my Frenchie for his first FREE pet exam, when we arrived it was a long wait due to a dog passing away while we were there which is understandable. The family was crying and upset and they were so inconsiderate of the family with the dog that passed, the vet was more worried about getting their credit card for payment. Poor family. I heard one of the staff say they had over 40 dogs in the back and didn't know where any more animals that came in would go, this was at about 10:30-11:00 am. Why schedule that amount of appointments if he can’t handle it and don’t have the space??
I was told I would get a call when my dog was ready. 3:30 still no call, I call and they said he was ready, when were they going to call and let me know? Oh yeah she entered my phone number wrong so how could they call me?? So when I get there to pick up my dog it's another 35 minute wait. Finally I get to the counter and I’m told I owe $210. I knew I was paying for the wellness plan which was $92, which online stated it would be $72. Signing up online is a waste of time because your information won’t transfer to their system, you have to give them everything all over again and pray they enter it correctly. I asked the staff what was the breakdown for the balance due, she told me I had a 60 something dollars for an enrollment fee. I let her know that I used I coupon when I signed my dog up online that waived that fee. She literally looked at me and said, "What do you want me to do about it," I said, "Take it off."
She gave me a hard time, told me to wait while she asked for assistance. She finally returned and stated she would have to call to have fee approved to be waived. When she was on the phone with the agent we heard her giving them my wrong phone number that they had entered in the system when I came in that morning. I know no one is perfect but 3 mistakes with one dog in one day is a little ridiculous. Makes me worry and them entering wrong medication, etc., that could be deadly to someone's pet. I told her the correct number, she never updating it. She told me I had 4 business days to cancel my wellness plan and be reimbursed. Then they charged me 50 something dollars for medicine because my dog just happened to throw up that day.
After I paid for everything the nurse came out to explain the medicine to me, everything they gave my dog said it could make him throw up more. So what is the point?? I gave the medicine to my dog for 2 days and he was still throwing up. I stopped giving him the medicine and he hadn't been sick since. A waste of money, they just want your money.
My dog is a Blue colored French Bulldog, on my dog's rabies paperwork they had my dog's color as tan and his breed as a Billy. Not even sure what a Billy is. I let the staff know that it was not correct and she told me maybe the staff member that entered the info was colorblind. I asked her what is a Billy she stated she wasn't sure what a Billy was as well. She gave me the paper back and proceeded to walk away, I'm like, "Ma'am can we please fix this? I don't want him to be labeled wrong on his rabies paperwork in the system." She stated she didn't think she could change it because I already paid, she could tell I was not happy with that answer so she said she would try to fix it. She did fix it in their system but was not able to print me updated paperwork with the correct info on it.
So on Monday morning which would be my 3rd business since a started my wellness plan, I call the office to cancel my plan. I'm given a 1-800 phone number to call to cancel. When I called I gave the incorrect phone number because the staff never updated it, in the system the agent on the phone did update my phone number. I'm then told I would have to pay over $400 to cancel my policy. I asked for what, and was told for any services that were done minus the $92 I paid for the wellness plan. How is this possible if the first exam was free and already paid for the unnecessary medicine?? I asked for a supervisor, agent stated he would put in a request for a call back but it could take up to 24 to 48 hours.
3 1/2 days later a supervisor calls and says the same thing, I would have to pay over $400 before my policy could be canceled. She could not explain to what was free with the exam. She stated I could try out another Banfield, I told her the reviews are horrible at most locations you have and if I try another I will last my 4 days and would be stuck for 12 months. I took my card off my plan so I don't get charged. I will contact the corporate office because this is just ridiculous. Oh and when you call the office be prepared to be put on hold for 30 minutes or more, happened to me twice. They deserve a zero star but it won't let me. Please view my Yelp review for an update for the Greenbrier location in Chesapeake, VA. Thank you.

They attempt to force you to purchase their wellness plan by charging you for an exam EVERY visit. Our labs were just there a week ago for annual blood tests at their Joliet, IL. We live here in Plainfield and Joliet. We're boarding them next month for our trip and found out they need a flu shot. In addition to the $110 for the 1st round of shots, they charged $110 for an exam and they were just there a week prior. It's a scam. Our dogs have gone there for years. Not going back.

If you are considering Banfield as your provider for pet care, read their contracts. They say you receive a savings, but you really don't. They upcharge the services to make you think you are getting a discount. Do your research and compare to other local vets. Even talk about the end of life conditions for your pet and how the plan applies. It's an annual contract, so if your pet dies in the middle of the year, you are still responsible for the balance of the plan to the next renewal date. Know what you are getting into before buying into. The vets and staff are GREAT... caring, compassionate, and really love on your dog. Their humans. The corporation is another story. Complete opposite of what you get at the clinic. Some people have had bad experiences at the clinic, I can honestly say I have not. But the people at the clinic have their hands tied when it comes to the contract. So do your homework!
I had to euthanize my 14-year-old dog on November 4th, 2023. The staff were fantastic and told me to call the 800 number to cancel my wellness plan (it would renew in April 2024). The man I spoke to at the 800 number was cold and unsympathetic when I told him why I was cancelling and said, "you still have to pay the balance of the plan". I understand I was in a contract... and yes, it is my duty to know what is in it. But Banfield has a duty to explain some of the conditions as well, so there is no confusion. Duty owed; duty breached!!! That was never done... ever. It should be part of their annual review of the plan when it renews, especially when your dog gets older in age or has health issues. The more this customer service rep spoke to me in such an uncaring manner, the more I decided to dig into this company. I am so sad to read the hundreds of other people who have been misled and mistreated by this company.
The staff are not educated on the program and some of the conditions, they just know they have to sell it. There is no cost savings if you compared to local vets in your area. Banfield actually increases their rates to make it look like a cost savings. I bought into it thinking of the convenience for my pet, not as insurance. Feels like a bait and switch that I swallowed for 14 years until the very end.
My neighbor uses another vet that does not even charge for euthanizing your pet if you are their regular customer. No discount for that at Banfield. I paid over $300 to put my girl down, and to add insult to injury, they want another $250+ for a plan I cannot use. What a punch in the gut. Unbelievable the lack of empathy, sympathy, or compassion. I am grieving, yes, but there has to be something that can be done. Add me to any class action lawsuit against them. I believe I have almost all my dogs records of care still to compare to industry standard rates. At the end of the day, I would pay the $250+… I would pay anything… to have my Murfee back.

They told me I had to call closer to the expiration date. I called October 6. They cancel the plan and told me that they would refund me the $64 charge on my credit card. After a few weeks I called back asking where my refund was and they told me I was not eligible for the $64 refund as I had canceled it the day after. After 20 years and thousands and thousands of dollars spent at this company I can’t believe that they would lose my business like this. In addition to being overpriced, I recommend you go to another vet, but at the very least never ever ever sign up for the optimal wellness plan.

My story starts when we took our dog "Puppy" to the animal hospital for a respiratory issue and was given a prescription for **. That following week we had called one of Puppy's vets at Banfield Moorestown, NJ to let him know and if he could see if Mt. Laurel Animal Hospital had done blood work and sent it over. The vet agreed to take a look and call us back but we never heard from him. After a few days, the ** was making her vomit, so we called Banfield for an appointment at another location in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Cherry Hill female vet there explained that the other vet was at that location that morning and they spoke about Puppy’s illness and he stated that there was no blood work performed at Mt. Laurel Animal Hospital.
I asked why he hadn’t called us back that same week and we could’ve brought Puppy in for blood work then, the Cherry Hill female vet replied that she didn’t know but offered an injectable antibiotic but I had to wait a few days for the money, she did say Puppy’s vitals were fine. We ended up taking Puppy back to the female vet on 7/18 for the injectable antibiotic and again the Cherry Hill female vet stated that Puppy’s vitals were good. We had asked her if we could do blood work to see exactly what was going on and she said no. She said she wanted to wait till Puppy went in for her diabetic test and then do the blood work. We asked her a second time to do blood work since the insurance I had covered it and I was willing to pay for it myself, but she said no again and said to wait.
The next day, 7/19, Puppy was still being picky when eating but we were giving her this prescription food high in calories but she seemed a little more tired than normal. On Thursday, 7/20, Puppy had a normal morning like the other, drinking and going to the bathroom. By 10 am, my son brought her in from a walk and noticed green and yellow mucus coming from her nose, so we made an appointment at Banfield Moorestown with Puppy's original Moorestown female vet, who has treated Puppy for years. The appointment was at 5:30, by that time Puppy had gone from not feeling well to catastrophic and Moorestown female vet said that she had a fever of 104 & to take her to the emergency hospital.
We rushed her to Mr. Laurel Animal Hospital where she was immediately taken to the back. After examining her, the doctor came in and stated that because Puppy was so sick, they didn’t think she’d make it through the aggressive testing, so we made the decision to have her put down. It broke my heart but I couldn’t see her suffer like that.
I’m sure if the Cherry Hill female vet had performed the blood work like I asked she would’ve found something. Would it have prevented what happened, maybe or maybe not. I still feel that she did not abide by the oath she took when she was sworn in as a veterinarian and she was negligent by not trying to figure out what was wrong with Puppy knowing that she had been sick since 6/29/23. The Cherry Hill female vet knew that the blood work would’ve been paid for by my insurance plan that was through Banfield but refused to do it 2 times after being asked.
I had sent an email to Banfield corporate executives as well as Mars corporate executives explaining the situation that occurred and how I went on Puppy’s account on the Banfield portal and everything was wiped out. I asked for a copy of all of her records to be sent to me. I received an email and a voicemail from the Vice President, Client Relations, he emailed me Puppy’s records and offered his condolences. I returned his call and in speaking to him, he mentioned that he also paid off the rest of my insurance plan for 10 months and cancelled it. Nothing anyone does will bring Puppy back but I feel that I have to be the voice for her.

Review for Banfield Pet Hospital - Walnut, Cary. I recently had an unfortunate experience at the Walnut, Cary location. I scheduled an appointment for my dog at 11:30 am, expecting her to receive timely care. However, when I returned for pick-up at the agreed time of 5:00 pm, I was dismayed to learn that she had not been attended to. It seemed she had been overlooked and left in her crate for the duration of our scheduled time. The staff only began the examinations and the agreed-upon procedures upon my arrival.
After bringing her home, I noticed that she was incredibly thirsty, leading me to believe she might not have been offered water throughout her extended stay. While I understand that mistakes happen, keeping a pet confined without essential care for over six hours is concerning. I have generally had positive experiences with the Banfield network, but this particular visit was quite disappointing.

I signed up for their wellness plan for my 2 dogs which cost $100/mo and have had them for several years. But "wellness" visits are NEVER just get your covered "wellness" benefits, i.e., routine checkups, vaccines, etc. There has not been one visit where they didn't find something wrong with my dogs which of course, are never covered by the plan. I have never left a wellness visit that didn't cost me hundreds of dollars. Every time you go they upsell the heck out of you, which is their sole job and purpose because it's where they make their money.
Last week I took my dogs to get their nails trimmed. They called me a few hours later to tell me my one dog had 2 broken toes and she was in severe distress and pain, so they wouldn't clip her nails because it would only cause her more distress, despite her nails being very long and several pushing into her paw pads due to a birth deformity on one foot. They recommended x-rays and said she required prescription pain medication and anti-inflammatories. I questioned them as I brought her in perfectly fine, except for some bleeding between 2 toes, which is normal for her due to skin allergies and constant licking as she is a white bully so skin issues are par for the course.
I declined the x-rays as I couldn't afford them and like with humans, there is no treatment for broken toes other than maybe taping and just letting them heal, but I got the meds because I didn't want her to be in pain. The visit cost me several hundred dollars that I really didn't have. When they brought her out she was happy, running around and she was using that foot normally, no limping, no signs of pain or distress, etc., which made me even more skeptical. I asked them, could the vet be mistaken because that foot has the birth defect - she was born with no nails on the 2 outer toes and the bones did not form correctly - she is actually missing several bones in that foot.
The tech said it "was possible." I made the appt with a specific vet who had seen my dog the last several visits as she was no nonsense and didn't try to upsell me to death. I didn't find out until I got the receipt that it was a new vet who had never seen my dog. Which is another huge issue with Banfield - the turnover of their vets is ridiculous. Every time you find a vet you like and prefer, they're gone a few months later, so you're constantly getting vets who are seeing your pets for the first time. Bottom line - when we got home my dog was perfectly fine, she showed no signs of an injury, no pain, no limping. Her toes were not broken and my dog was given meds she didn't need. Had I OK'd the x-rays the visit would have cost me over $600 for a perfectly healthy dog.
I immediately canceled auto renewal for their plans and once their plan ends I will find another vet clinic. Banfield is nothing more than a business whose sole purpose is upselling and making lots of money, not the welfare of animals. I would stay away from them unless you want to get milked at every so-called "wellness" visit. I don't know how they remain in business with their sleazy tactics.

On Saturday 30 Sept 2023, I contacted the pet hospital location (Cedar Park TX) and was given an appointment to bring our cat for a consult from a veterinarian, on Oct 1 2023 at 11:15 AM. I showed up for the appointment, filled out all the paperwork and met with a tech and the vet on duty. The vet look at the large growth on the bridge of the cat's nose, determined it was in/on the skin and appeared to easily removed, she was also show a soft lump under the skin on the cat's neck and she said it was most likely a cyst.
She observed the cat need a teeth cleaning and had large claw on one back foot that needed to be cut or trimmed. She said doing everything at the same time would be easier for the cat and would probably cost less. We agreed and were given an appointment for Wed 4 Oct 2023 at 7:00 to 7:15 AM drop-off and I could pick the cat up at 5:30 PM because they were open till 6PM. The vet said a tech would contact us on Monday to give us the cost estimate and the prep instructions (feeding cut off, pet drop off time, etc.)
Monday afternoon I still had a call from the tech so I call the hospital and the girl on the phone said the tech would call me Tuesday morning. I called back Tuesday noon because no one had reached out to us and the girl on the phone said to call back in the afternoon. Again in the afternoon a call was placed and the girl said the tech was not in but to bring the cat in on Wed 4 Oct 2023 at 7:00 – 7:15 AM, don’t feed the cat after 10PM on Tuesday night but water was okay.
I had to get time off from work (our day starts at 7:00 AM) to be at the hospital to drop off the cat. At 7:10 the girl working at PetSmart opened the door and said they should be in soon, at that same time a couple of techs showed up as I put the cat cage on the floor just inside the door, they said okay and took the cat and cage inside. Most of the day I was not with cell range where we were working, the first call I received was at 12:10. That is when I saw the 10 voicemails that had been left by the tech from Cedar Park hospital location.
When I called back she told me the vet had an emergency and was not able to do the surgery, I said that I understood and things happen. I told her I would be there at 5:30 after work as per agreed on Sunday. She proceeded to tell me that they were closing at 2PM and I HAD to pick the cat up before then. I told her I was at work, she said if I didn’t pick the cat up before 2PM she was going to call animal control and have them come and get the cat. This is MY cat, and this poorly trained tech is threatening me with Animal Control. The best example of a bad veterinary organization.

I had enrolled my three pets with Banfield for around two years. I was always going to the location in Coral Gables, Miami, FL because is the closest to me. I've been ok with the service because is convenient as they open during the weekends and I can get short-notice drop-off appointments. I took my ill cat recently and received a very bad welcome, inconsiderate treatment, and rudeness from the front desk women. My cat developed a condition that was not followed up there. They want you to pay upfront for test that might be unnecessary, and they will push you to pay it so that way your pet doesn't have to stay for more hours in a cage. The plan might have some advantages by covering some tests, treatments, and procedures but they will almost force you to use them ahead even if your pet doesn't need them and after that, you will have to keep paying for tests that are not covered by the plan.
I asked several times to both women that they were not veterinarians to be able to suggest tests and that I wanted the Dr to give a physical exam to my pet and go from there. In the end, I will probably end up paying more with them than with a regular vet. I was also forced to sign a release to give fly and tick medication to my ill cat in case "they find them" on her. They mentioned not to worry because they wouldn't apply any treatment if they didn't find anything on her. I explained that she is been treated by an internist doctor for a condition that is still unknown and somebody can make a mistake and put in jeopardy my cat's health. I also added that it is an indoor cat and that I won't sign something that I won't honor.
I refused to sign and they told me that they were not going to give my cat attention so I had to leave. I complained to "Banfield Cares" as I was told by an agent and they sent the Dr. Chief to call me and instead of making things better for me; she is defending her staff and putting in doubt my words. She mentioned using other locations or going back to this one and I WILL NEVER LEAVE MY PETS IN CHARGE OF PEOPLE LIKE THOSE TWO WOMEN. They are rude, and mean, and have no education or consideration for you or your pets. You Banfield are the worst. I rather pay regular prices and my three pets are going to be treated with respect, love, and dignity. About the customer service; forget about it. You have to wait for hours in order to talk to someone.

I would like to share 3 different experiences I have had with Banfield that have affected me directly or indirectly over the past few years. And before I get into this, I would like to share that I have been with Banfield for I would guess about a decade. I have defended them when others have talked badly. I defended them to my mother after they were responsible for her dog's death a few years ago. But my last experience with Banfield has set me on fire. The lack of care and the sheer laziness to figure out what is wrong with a pet that someone loves is simply not ok. I feel like it's important to make sure people know how dangerous Banfield is to the wellbeing of their pets.
1- 2017: My dog older dog had a mass removed. The surgical site became infected. I took him in to have it addressed. They gave me an antibiotic and sent me on my way. A few days later, I brought him in again, as the surgical site had become necrotic. They told me everything looked normal (although the smell was awful, and literally smelled like death). In hindsight, I definitely should have gone to the emergency room, but I took the vet at Banfield's word that this was the normal healing process.
A few days later, my dog was dying. I took him back, and they refused to see me, but I would not leave until they did. When they finally took him back, they told me I needed to prepare myself because he was dying. I don't need to explain why this is absolutely a horrific situation. They put a drain tube in him but told me he probably wouldn't make it. He by some miracle did make it (probably because I ended up taking him to the Emergency vet), but had he died it would have CLEARLY been on Banfield, and his suffering for those two weeks was definitely on Banfield. I knew something was wrong, I knew he was dying, and somehow their vet did not? What is going on here? How do you justify this?
2- 2016: My mother's dachshund ate something she shouldn't have. She had surgery to remove the item. Post-surgery, the dog's belly was distended and the dog was extremely lethargic. She was not healing. Mom took her dog in and told the vet something was wrong, and the vet insisted that everything was healing normally, and not to worry. This happened 2-3 times before the dog died. My mom knew something was wrong, but the vet didn't? Is it possible that the Banfield vets that incompetent? As in my first example, I do not need to explain why Banfield's actions are not just unacceptable, but heartbreaking and horrifyingly wrong.
3- 2022-2023: My current dog has been into a different location several times over the last couple years for a bad limp. I was very concerned as my dog is only 4 years old, and 2 years old when it started. I was sent away with "I don't see anything wrong with her'' every single time and thrown some ** to give her. The last time I was there I requested X-rays. I was told by the vet that X-rays would not show anything at all. Frustrated and defeated, I left again with no resolution.
This past month, I noticed my dog was struggling worse than ever before. I called my Banfield and asked if they could see her. They said they could not see her for about a month out (not unusual... it's impossible to get an appointment in any kind of reasonable timeframe). So I called another local vet, who got her in right away. The first thing the new vet did was give her an exam (something "Dr. Banfield" did not do ONCE in any of our visits). The vet said immediately something wasn't right, but she would need to do x-rays to confirm. After x-rays were done, it was "very apparent" my dog was injured and had a torn CCL, and to top it off, also had bony tissues and the start of arthritis from.... get this.... BEING INJURED FOR SO LONG and having done NOTHING ABOUT IT.
These are factual situations, that happened exactly as described. I am not exaggerating because I'm angry. I'm sharing this information because I can no longer defend or support any Banfield. I stayed with them for so long because I believe that everyone makes mistakes. Things happen sometimes unexpectedly, and I believe in forgiveness and second chances. But three different serious issues that have all impacted me and 4 different dogs that I've cared about is just too much. There's no excuse or reason for that kind of negligence. I have done a good bit research and asking around and found that I'm not alone. This is apparently par for the course for Banfield.
When I asked to cancel my wellness plan, they refused to cancel it without huge fees. Even that shows their greed, and unwillingness to take responsibility. I will not use them again, as I can't trust any vet at any Banfield location to do what's right. I don't know if it's because they hire incompetent, lazy vets, or if they are overworked, or just uncaring, but it is WRONG and it is DANGEROUS. PLEASE protect your pet's safety, health, and long-term wellbeing by not choosing Banfield as your vet provider.

I’ve had each of my pets on the Banfield wellness plan. No, it is not Insurance. It is discounted services so long as you use each of those services in that wellness plan. Took my new puppy in there last Wednesday in Cale Coral, FL and I had to say hello to the receptionist because she was on her phone. I put my dog on the scale and she was going to mark an inaccurate weight because she was rushing to check us in. Once I got Gypsy to sit, she was 1.5lbs less than what she wanted to mark in her chart. Mind you, that weight is what the doctors use when giving the correct dosages of medications and vaccines. Then she put me in a room.
Some girl came in with no introduction, didn’t know what she was talking about, didn’t even acknowledge my dog and all she cared about was which wellness plan I was paying for. I had to repeat myself over and over again with what vaccines she already had and another issue and then she took her in the back for a fecal test. She brought her back and said, "OK they are getting the vaccines ready and I’ll be back to grab her in a minute once we have the test results back." I asked about the belly rash and she forgot to ask the doctor. I said ok, I’ll ask when the doctor comes in. She told me that the doctors don’t come out and meet the pet owners. I told her that was ridiculous and she was not taking my dog back there until the doctor came to talk with me.
A doctor and nurse came in with vaccines in their hands, again with no introduction, rushed over my concern about the rash, and said I could purchase medicated wipes, double checked which wellness plan I was going to be purchasing, and by then I was so frustrated that I told them not to vaccinate her. Their demeanors quickly shifted and they became defensive and left.
So then another girl came into the room, again no introduction, and told me what the cost was and I said no, I’m not signing her up for a plan. I will begrudgingly pay for this office visit and fecal test. She said when they took her back the first time they gave her a dewormer so I have to pay for that too. I did not approve of anything other than the fecal so I won’t pay for that and she said that I should have just known since I was going to sign up for the wellness plan that they would start any services on there. She was blaming me! How unprofessional!
I told her that I would never come back to Banfield and we’re ready to go! I asked for the names of the doctor and nurse that came in and she said Dr. ** and Heather. It’s a different doctor listed on her paperwork. Hmm. I told her how unprofessional and inconsiderate everyone had been there from the moment I arrived and she showed no concern for what I was saying.
They have zero care for the pet and only care about the $. Before, you would meet the doctors, nurses, etc. They would say hello to you and your pet and interact with them to make them feel comfortable. Now, it’s so corporate that they can’t be bothered to step into the rooms to meet us. It’s pathetic. They should be ashamed of themselves. These are living beings and we shouldn’t be treated as if we’re going through a drive-through and that’s exactly how it felt. Impersonible, rushed, uninvested and disingenuous.

They renewed your plan while told you they turned it off for you. Last year, I enrolled my two kittens in the Optimum Wellness Plan at your hospital. This plan was supposed to provide comprehensive healthcare for my pets, including vaccinations. Unfortunately, my credit card on file expired, causing me to miss two monthly payments. I was informed of this issue when I contacted Banfield Hospital, and I was told that I needed to make the two missing payments in order to regain access to the services covered by the plan.
On September 20th, I brought my kittens to the hospital, fully prepared to make the required payments and have them receive their vaccinations. However, I was met with unexpected complications. The staff informed me that my kitten wellness plan had already expired, and I would need to renew it for another year to be eligible for the free vaccines. This was not communicated to me previously, and it came as a surprise. I expressed my decision not to renew the wellness plan at that time and was informed that it had been turned off for me. I was then instructed to pay the past dues for the two months I had missed, which I promptly did.
Moreover, on that visit, I inquired about vaccinating my kittens, and the hospital staff informed me that since I had decided not to renew the wellness plan, I would need to pay approximately $400 for their vaccinations as someone without a wellness plan. This information led to my decision to bring my cats back without proceeding with any treatments, as I was under the impression that I was no longer on the wellness plan and would be charged separately for vaccines.
Now, to my dismay, I have been informed that Banfield Hospital is still attempting to charge me for a new year's wellness plan, despite my explicit decision not to renew it. When I called the hospital to rectify this issue, I was told that they could not cancel the plan for me, and I would need to contact your billing department. This lack of assistance and accountability from the hospital is unacceptable. Furthermore, I was informed that the hospital had not canceled the plan for me, despite the previous assurance that it had been turned off.
I find this situation to be not only frustrating but also entirely unfair. I was never informed during the initial enrollment that the wellness plan would automatically renew for another year. Moreover, when I visited the hospital on September 20th, I was explicitly told that I was no longer on the plan and needed to pay extra for vaccines. This information directly contradicts the current situation where I am being charged for a plan I have explicitly declined.

We got more attitude from the front office staff. One argued that we didn't call them, while the other let out a heavy sigh and said she'd see if the vet could look at our dog. After going round and round with them, magically, the dog they had no record of just minutes before, suddenly has an appointment in their system for 2 days from now at a time we would not have made an appointment for. TL;DR: The Wellness Plan preys on families grieving the loss of their beloved family member. Avoid this plan or CANCEL it early for your senior dogs - most issues in our senior dogs they sent us to fully out of pocket specialists and are charging us the remaining 10 months of the plan after the passing of our dog. We recently lost our 12 year old boy from a sudden stroke last month. His wellness plan renewed a month or so before he passed.
In our time of grief, the last thing we wanted to do was have to call and formally cancel his Banfield Wellness plan because he had had it since he was 4 months old; we even got the premium one as he aged. Never missed a payment, never had an outstanding balance. So, you can imagine our horror that when we finally got around to it, we were informed that it would cost $900 to cancel it at this time since it was "early termination." When explaining that this wasn't a choice or switching to another vet/insurance etc... the response was "it was in the contract you signed."
As a comparison point, the annual cost is about $1100... so we had 2ish months after it renewed before he passed. They refused to pro-rate/relinquish the rest claiming it was to cover "services provided under the plan" but unfortunately, I no longer have my best friend by my side to use those "provided services" again in the future - so if it roughly $100/month... they can easily just accept the $200ish dollars to cover those 2ish months. But they refuse.

I used Banfield's wellness program for both of my dogs and never had an issue until I moved and went to cancel. The nearest Banfield is an hour away from where I live now. I requested a cancellation of my wellness plan and was told that when we cancel a wellness plan before the end of the current plan year, there are two options to choose from. Clients can pay for the services used or the rest of the wellness plan, whichever is less. For my dog it broke down as:
Installments paid to date = $610.80
Remaining balance for services = $698.74
Remaining wellness plan payments = $305.40
So, either I would need to pay $305.40 or just continue the monthly installments until end of December when the "contract" was up. Insane.

The vet prescribed medication which had side affects of making animals vomit, have diarrhea and eat less. Why would the vet prescribe medications which are symptoms of the current illness???? Now Bentley is not eating anything. And of course, the wellness plan **. This plan would make sense if they were treating animals not killing them slowly.

I decided to go with the Wellness Plan since my new pets were all young with no health issues. That was a HUGE mistake. The Wellness plan kept increasing in price every couple of months, and without telling you, they would change the plan renewal date. I was stupid enough to pay for "dental cleaning" , but they omit telling you that it does not include the anesthesia that must be used for each cleaning. It is also almost impossible to reach an actual human being to cancel your plan. DO NOT go with Banfield or their Wellness Plans!

Which means the vaccines were paid for. Then my female dog got her vaccines I asked for Lyme to be included. First Lyme vaccine requires two shots. I find out at the appointment for her Lyme booster. I went there, and they directed me to a screening room. But the vet's assistant insisted that the vet couldn't do anything until my dog was enrolled in their care-plan. I decided not to sign up for it, but guess what? The veterinarian didn't even check up on my puppy. Yet, they still charged me $66.95 dollars for the consultation (even though nothing was done except trying to sell me their plan). It is like the administration wants you to come to the clinic so they can make you pay for absolutely nothing. It's a shame I didn't read others' comments earlier because even those who paid for the plan didn't get good service.

I was dumb enough to buy the optimum wellness plan for my new puppy. While it does have some benefits, the bad far outweigh any of them. I’ve had several bad experiences there, but I’ll only speak of the one today. This morning, while leaving a hotel room, the door slammed on my dog's tail. Of course he immediately began to scream in pain and try to get out. But the door locked when it closes and I couldn’t get my card out fast enough. So he ran and it actually amputated 2 to 2 1/2 inches of his tail.
I called the Banfield nearest to me and they told me they could see him in six or seven hours, I called the next closest one and they could see him tomorrow. I then went to a local vet closer to my home. My dog required, anesthesia, and IV, surgery, cauterization, bandages, and was sent home with four medications. They are a total, total, total waste. Please if you love your animal, go elsewhere. The only reason I chose them is my job requires me to travel 250 days a year, and I thought it would just be easier to have all my records there. If you are thinking of starting a wellness plan through this pet hospital absolutely do not do this!! It is 100% an absolute scam!! They tell you when you start your "wellness" plan that you are paying a certain amount per month and getting all of these services included in the plan when in fact you aren't getting any sort of discount. You are just not paying everything upfront. They tally up everything your pet has ever got/needed and charge you a little bit upfront and then keep your total amount for when you try to cancel your plan. So it's a never ending cycle, once you stop being a customer of theirs that's when you get your big bill for "all of the services your pet has needed" and you have no choice but to pay off your debt that they have given to you.
And you never know when your plan ends because they NEVER even call you to let you know, or ask if you want to continue renewing. All they do is continue billing you and collecting their money. I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone. Makes sense why they are in a lawsuit against their wellness plans for absolutely scamming people!!!!

Today, I called them if I can schedule visit to have my cat checked since he has stuffy nose and sneezing a lot, like he has allergy or something. To my surprised, they won't take my cat to check his condition until after initial checkup in mid July. The Pet wellness plans they offer are total scams. Read the small print. I have been with them for almost 2 years and haven't needed them for anything until my dog went blind. She is 10 years old and was told she has sudden blind syndrome. That isn't the problem, she wasn't feeling good so I called Banfield to schedule an appointment to see my girl, since they knew her history and been taking care of her for 2 years. The person on the phone said they don't see dogs for health issues, only take care of them if it is a issue that they have on their scheduled appointment for shots or teeth cleaning, that they would take care of her if they saw something. That they don't make appointments just to see dogs or any pets if they're sick, that I needed to go to AN EMERGENCY care vet or another vet for that matter. So I've been paying $48 a month for them to give my 10 year old dog her annual shots. That is a total scam and should be closed down for that racket they have going on.
Then it's a nightmare to close your accounts. They add up all the visits and things you had done that you never would have done, like excessive bloodwork, monthly worm test and many other things that dog owners generally don't get done, They make it like because it'd covered you should do it. What they mean is if you cancel this you will pay all of this in full.
Folks just be aware. When you drop off your dog they never take you in the room, they schedule it so you have to leave your dog and come back later to get them, who knows if they are even doing any work, they definitely try to get you to do blood work and every other thing not covered by your plan. And after I cancelled my plan I closed all my bank cards so they wouldn't keep charging my card, even though I paid the amount they told me to pay for cancelling. Yet somehow they managed to get my new account number. That is fraud and my credit card company is taking care of that. Beware of this scammer. They have a 1.2% on a 5% out of a five % of people that would recommend them or would ever return. Add two of us to their bad numbers. Hope you all will follow before you get scammed and are disappointed. They took money out of my business account which was unauthorized.

Hard to say something that hasn't been said 1000 times on here already.
1. My dog has a limp after running hard and not having had much exercise for a few weeks prior. They suggest she has the equivalent of a torn ACL because she doesn't want to put her back leg down when she walks. They want to do surgery to correct it but offered no plans to do an MRI and see what is actually wrong. Huge red flag!
2. Dog had an ear infection. I went through meds and cleaning and she is fine but every time I visit they do an ear swab and charge me $45 and then sign her up for a follow up in two weeks. And lo and behold EVERY TIME they find traces of yeast and charge me another $50 for meds.
3. I had a credit card compromised and when I went to the website to update it, the website froze, glitched, and said "sorry we are experiencing difficulties" and then tried to process my old card, which resulted in a $20 fee for failed processing of my card. Their approach is... Since it's in the contract, there is no waiver. They will NOT work with you because they know the contract is iron clad and they don't have to. I asked nicely for an exception and was trying to pay my bill on time, which it always has been. But nope. Contracts.
4. When I first tried Banfield Wellness plan, I wasn't happy with the location I went to so I opted out of renewal. Well guess what, they didn't honor that and set me up for another 12 months of service. And again, because contracts, I was stuck paying.
5. Stupid me decided a few years later to try again with my new dog. Nothing but problems. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... Well you know. DON'T BE FOOLED!

I've been a Banfield member for over 8 years and have two pets covered under their wellness plan. The good thing about Banfield is there are many locations to choose from so when they are booked for long periods of time (as they usually are), we can choose a different location. The bad thing about Banfield is they seem to be more about the money and less about your pet's health or customer service. Recently I had the worst experience ever during a visit to Edina, MN Banfield. It started with an urgent appointment for a cat that was vomiting and lethargic. We thought she may have eaten something poisonous outside.
Problem #1. They didn't have an in-person appointment so we dropped off our cat and gave all the information to the already overwhelmed front desk person. Unfortunately, the front desk person did not write down that our cat had been outside and we were concerned that she may have eaten something (btw, I repeated this many times).
Problem #2. Although we pay over $100 per month for a cat and a dog on their wellness program, Banfield is always trying to get us to pay more at every visit. They use well-known sales techniques including making you feel guilty. Knowing this, I've learned to take things slow and ask for one step at a time rather than everything all at once. When Dr. ** called she recommended testing. Some tests were covered under our plan, but about $400 was not. I opted to start with what was covered under our plan and see what we learned before paying $400. This was not what they wanted to hear.
Problem #3. I got a call to pick up our cat. When I arrived, they had two medications for $70. One for acid reflux and another to calm the gut. No mention of the plan to do the other tests, no mention of the continued vomiting, and no mention of what to do about the fact that she may not be able to eat/drink to take the meds. I foolishly put my trust in this Banfield that they had listened to our concerns and that they knew better than me.
Problem #4. Four hours later our cat was much worse. I called Banfield and it was then that I found out that the front desk person had not mentioned she had been outside. I was furious! I felt she had been misdiagnosed and we had been given $70 worth of meds based on this misdiagnosis. Not only that but after reviewing the test results I discovered that only one of the two tests was able to be performed and the test result was negative. If this was the case why didn’t the doctor get back to me and continue with our plan to go to the next step and get more testing? They couldn't get us in for another appointment.
Problem #5. We ultimately ended up in the Pet Emergency Hospital. $3,000 later we discovered the problem stemmed from a hairball stuck in the small intestine. Thankfully the pet hospital was able to help our cat and give her fluids until she could naturally pass the hairball. They did the right thing by telling us our choices every step of the way, the pros and cons, and the costs. At one point it was very touch and go and it looked like surgery might be needed. If it had, the total bill would have been around $10,000! If the hospital handled the situation as Edina Banfield did either our cat would be dead because wouldn't shell out $10,000 right away or we'd be paying $10,000 for a surgery that could be avoided if we worked together and took things step-by-step.
Problem #6. I tried to explain all this to the area manager of the Edina Banfield, she was having none of it. I should never have asked to get the $70 reimbursed because from that point forward that’s all she fixated on. Ultimately, I wanted her to see that they could make improvements in their process at Banfield. When emotions ran too high for us to communicate properly, she told me she’d have her area chief, Dr. **, contact me.
Problem #7. Dr. ** did contact me and left me a voice message without a callback number stating that she had reviewed the medical records and Dr. ** had made all the appropriate medical recommendations and they could not provide any refunds. Funny enough I was not contacting her about a refund, I was contacting her about the customer service at Edina Banfield. It's interesting how this was missed in the message to Dr. **.
Having read my story, I just want you to consider how YOU would feel about Banfield. Would you trust them? Would you feel confident taking your pets to them? Do you think they value their customers or customer service?

They barely have room for walk-in appointments so it's almost all drop offs, and if you have aging pets, they really don't have the skills or equipment to handle advanced care. Invest in a better pet insurance that you can bring your pet to a true animal hospital.
Banfield doesn't even carry a proper ultrasound machine that can detect cancer. My cat received regular "care" from Banfield, and had they included scanning for cancer and other terminal illnesses as part of their regular care, we might have caught it in time. In a pinch, Banfield is fine. They give prescriptions for very basic needs. But please, whatever you do, do not use them for anything serious, and do not use them if your pet is aging. I asked why wasn’t that noticed on last visit, the so called dental doctor stumbled and could not support a legitimate reason why it was overlooked. I was told 259 a tooth, the bill was over 667$ upon arrival. I asked to cancel service and was told it’s a 30 min wait on phone to cancel so I can wait or go home and wait. ** Really piss, poor service, butchers only care about add on sales, worst location ever. Don’t use, pays 55 a month to always have a 300$ + bill every visit.

They sell you the service as you pay and get free services. There is a charge with every visit. Canceled my subscription, they charge my account because apparently it is automatic renewal.Asked for the automatic renewal to be taken off, they refused, saying I am not the one signed for the service and refuse to tell me who signed up so I can ask them to call and cancel. This scam outlet has been charging my credit card for years after my dogs have died.

Can you imagine owning a company with the intent to care for pets and then falling in love with profit so much that you emphasize and train your locations to be sales focused more than care focused? They seemingly make little effort to prioritize customer communication and willingly watch clients leave? Google about any Banfield location and note that each facility has 3.5 stars, barely passing customer satisfaction.
Holding on and not willing to change the wellness plan exit strategy so that a pet owner has to continue to pay for a plan long after their pet has passed away, is nefarious. (Not speaking of myself, just an actual fact you'll see in the reviews.) The wellness plan is not a wellness plan. It's a discount plan on limited services similar to having a discount membership to a fast food chain. It's an "if this then that" tool to leverage commitment to services and treatments that your pet doesn't need and keep you tethered to their company.
Ever made an appointment for a shot or gland expunge only to hear them tell you that your pet needs something else? Really think it through. Why do they do this at every appointment? Money. 40 Billion in sales annually. 37 Billion in revenue. The company was first owned by MARS candy. Let that sink in. They have been buying out pet care facilities since their inception.
Leadership is top down. If you've had an appointment change without notice, cancelled, or left sitting in a room for a technician to blitz and confuse you to add services that increase your bill, you're experiencing a profit machine led by the company's board and leadership team. It's just a really sad organization that templates every interaction to make money. It's not even a customer care focused formula it's just a predatory practice that uses your love for your pet against you. You and your pet are cattle at Banfield. If you're a veterinary graduate, start your own facility, or you'd be better off selling cars. They will break you of your calling to love animals. My soul would die even if I was just working the front desk.
I can only think of cable companies in the late 90's when it comes to the same reputation as Banfield and I rarely feel frustrated enough to write a review and here I am seething with anger after my latest experience at a Banfield location. Do not @ me in the response with a generic "Sorry to hear that or we strive to...." Just change. Do better.

My husband and I bought a small puppy and went to Banfield Pet Hospital and registered him. They gave us a clean bill of health and came home. 3 days later he started having diarrhea and we took him back to the hospital. After testing, we were told he had 2 Intestinal Bacterial Infection and we had to buy different medications including Antibiotics. His health got worst and he started to loose his appetite day by day. We took him back and the Vet/Doctor told us he's much better and one of the infections are gone... While he was still under medication, they Vaccinated him.
After that visit his health got worst and so did his appetite. I kept calling Banfield and they told me to wait and give it time and the Doctor would call me back. Again we went to Banfield and at that point we were told there is nothing they can do at this time and that he would get better. My beautiful 10 week old puppy which at that point weight less than a pound died in my arms. It was Horrifying. I urge everyone to please don't take your pets to Banfield pet Hospital so God forbid you don't go through what I experienced.

While everyone at Banfield Pet Hospital in Rockaway NJ is very nice, I wouldn't recommend them. I called to find out what the cost would be for my 2 cats to get their shots, rabies and distemper. I was told that it would be between $120 and $130. They neglected to tell me that there is both an examination fee and office visit fee which brought the bill to over $260.00. It is absolutely disgusting that it cost me more than double what I had budgeted. Terrible business practice!!!!

I am extremely unhappy with how my family’s whole experience has been with the financial situation at Banfield. The uncooperative, unyielding “assistance” on every level really surprised me negatively (except the helpful staff actually at the hospital who just don’t have the ability to do anything to help with the account - THEY deserve a raise for what they do to try to help). My son, who was 14 when he got the dog and then gave it to my daughter who has had it for years, received a collections letter with a ding on his credit report of 25 points, stating that he had a delinquent account for a whopping $651. He had not been caring for the dog for many years.
My daughter and her husband had paid off the final bill (of just $140) for the dog’s last services March 28th, 2022 and closed the account. The person with whom my daughter spoke on the phone verified the account was clear, all was paid off, and it was now closed. However, Banfield somehow managed to open the account again. My son-in-law said they had asked him to sign a receipt at the last appointment and we are thinking that ended up being a contract. Now we find out that they have to pay $651 for absolutely nothing. No services for the dog. No vaccines. Not even a toenail clipping because they didn’t even know they had a wellness plan since they had intended (and it had been confirmed with the last communication my daughter had made) that this had been closed and they were good.
No effort has been made to reach out to get the bill paid, even with an email and cell phone. Banfield just simply send the account to collections. Unbelievable. Had we known this was an issue, we would have used the wellness plan, albeit begrudgingly because we thought it was cancelled. But we would have wanted our money’s worth. Again, we didn’t even know there was an open account because of how this went down. We never even used the services. Does anyone in billing care about that? Not in the slightest. No efforts have been made to believe any of my family who have tried to get something fixed. This is theft and deceit, in the form of a signed contract and there’s nothing we can do because the wonderful, amazingly understanding billing people could only repeat, “Well, I have a signed contract here.”
I’m insulted, very angry, and disgusted with this business for being so deceiving and for making absolutely no effort to make this right for the customer. When it comes to Banfield Pet Hospital, I unequivocally will encourage people to go elsewhere if they want to hang on to their wallets. Nobody cares in the billing departments or at corporate in the financing department. It’s just, “There’s a signed contract.” So no effort to help or make it right. The principle of this thing is a lot more important to me than even the $651. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! TAKE YOUR PET TO A DIFFERENT PET CARE FACILITY if you want to hold on to your money. They won’t listen to you or try to make it right. I have spoken with several people and was flat out accused of lying.

I was recruited to get an influenza vaccine by my kennel. So I rushed over to Banfield. It was nice that they were able to get me in. However, it was expensive. Not only did they charge me for the vaccine, they charged me for a wellness visit making the price over $100. This vaccine requires a booster after 3 weeks. So when I got back from vacation I went to schedule the booster. I found out that they want to charge me for an additional office visit even though it is just a follow up. That would bring my total bill for a single vaccine to over $200. This is outrageous!

First, the wellness plan you must know if your pet passes before your plan ends… you will pay for the remaining months and no pet. That was a big red flag but, I went back with my new pet. Worst decision I have ever made! My new baby 6 mo old was throwing up, losing weight, not eating or drinking. He was there all day and 3 hours before closing they call and recommend doing a X-ray/test for Megaesophagus. Vet really believes that is what’s wrong. Cost $500 and test won’t be back for 2 days. Done!
Meanwhile, my baby returns home and he still feels, looks horrible! Call next morning feeling he was not gonna make it. I was told they were booked and so I went elsewhere and there’s where in an hour's time they said he had swolled something and needed fluids overnight and surgery the next day. Now flat broke thanks to Banfield, I had to relinquish my rights in order for this baby to live. Here on out I will never own another pet because of the heartlessness I’ve experienced at Banfield! I’m the beginning 2018 they were helpful for my financial circumstances with the wellness program, Customer Service with the girls up front were nice, staff and veterinarians were very caring. Then Covid happened many changes happened constantly had to schedule for drop off couldn’t meet the veterinarian talk to short staffed which I understand. I could never schedule the days I wanted on the app when I was off. I always had to call in to make the appointment. This very last time I wanted to talk to the vet in person to explain to them in person with my dog. I took her in for Emergency reasons. She was panting a lot, coughing real fast like she was trying to get air, couldn’t pee or poop, wouldn’t eat her food or drink. Right then I knew something was wrong.
My dog was 14 years old. I described everything going on the girl, told me I can stay In Petsmart to shop, they will page or the vet will call me. I was okay with that. I got a phone call in the store, the veterinarian looked at her, said her heart sounded okay, pulled the past lab reports, asked me about my dog’s bump on her leg and the right side of her hip. I explained to her so she would have a better understanding. The veterinarian said she show no discomfort from the right hip when she touches it but trying extend her right leg it would hurt. The veterinarian gave her a shot of Meloxicam for pain. I was supposed to give her shots for 2 weeks. They also wanted me to give her children's liquid ** 3ml every 12 hrs.
I took my dog home. My dog did have cataracts but she was confused, lost, still wouldn’t eat her food or drink water. I gave her ** at 7:00 pm tried to help feed her a few times, gave her pieces of Ham, then I would give her water through a syringe to help her. After hours it wasn’t getting any better. I knew it wasn't good. We were both up all night I kept trying to comfort her. I tried ** one more time to help 1:00 am. I sit her down on the floor thinking she would want something, she would look lost. She walked in my room, went around the bed, it was dark on the other side, I figured she was trying to find a spot to be comfortable. I helped her get in her dog bed to try to rest, she did for 5 min then started to yelp and cry. So I put her next to me. She moved a little bit to the right then started to yelp and cry. I picked her up to calm her down just stroking her head, back hair. She was next to my leg and a small pillow.
I saw her shake with pain 2 times then last one is she took her last breath. Cocoa died 4:25 am. it was the most horrible feeling I could ever have. I just wished I talked to the veterinarian in person to get a better understanding what was happening. It would’ve been better to put her to sleep than to have her suffer all night.
I tried to cancel my subscription for next month December because Cocoa is no longer alive especially cancelling the appointments. They said I had to pay the rest of the membership. Out of 4 years Banfield has received 2,205.20 from me for care of my dog. They will not honor the last month December cancellation without have to pay another $56.95. All I can say is Shame on You for the top business people running Banfield making money off the subscribers and having no compassion or empathy on our pets that have died. You wouldn’t like it if someone did it to you. Maybe someday your conscious will bother you to make some changes for us pet owners.

Recently, I made the worst mistake I’ve ever had with a veterinarian´s choice! I got a free visit to Banfield (which was not true, because before they touch the animal, I had to agree to pay $90, to have the animal seen by an assistant). Because my cat was screaming with pain in his ears and with several sores on his stomach and leg, I agreed to pay what I could afford at the time, which was a bottle of ear drops, which could also solve the problem of sores, instead of the $450 they had given me presented after the cat was examined, so I spent almost $200.
Until I got to that point, I lost more than 6 hours inside the clinic and also lost my work day because surely you take a sick pet to a specialist team, obviously you will want to leave there with everything resolved. No! After almost 2 months, my cat's condition is pitiful. The total of $200 was in vain and now I have to spend it again on another clinic, as unfortunately we don't look at reviews before choosing a clinic that won't fail our 4-legged children. Avoid this clinic at all costs. They are only interested in selling pet insurance and selling medicine at twice the price of anywhere else.

My dog was dropped off around 7am for his dental cleaning and my husband was told to come back around 12pm for pickup. He arrives at that time and is put in an exam room, which he finds odd because typically you don’t go into an exam room for pickup, and as he goes in he receives a phone call from an unknown number. He answers and it is a man that informs him that he and 2 other people have our dog (the dog he is supposed to be picking up, but apparently Banfield was putting my husband into that room to buy time?!?). He was in the road 2 miles away!!!!
My husband rushes out of there and gets our dog, who is filthy and LIMPING!! He had run across several VERY BUSY highways! At this time I receive a phone call from the dr, I am at work but I answer and she asks me if I have my dog!!! I have no idea what she is talking about because I haven’t had a chance to talk to my husband and I rush out of work and speed to the area, only knowing my dog is LOST! I am a panicked mess!! My husband takes our dog back to banfield for X-rays and to find out what happened and is told that a nurse ALLEGEDLY “tripped” and “ dropped the leash” and that our dog ran off. Apparently, “protocol” is that they always walk them with 2 leashes, but my dog was found with no leashes, which is evidence of one of their many lies.
When I get to the clinic I am unable to see my dog initially because they are trying to get X-rays and the clinic manager comes outside to talk to me and apologize. She explains what allegedly happened, but it still does not make sense to me how a person working in this environment can “trip” and drop a leash and not maintain control of a 17lb dog that just woke up from anesthesia from their teeth cleaning?! It is miraculous that my dog is not dead considering how far he went. Thank god there were good people around who risked their own safety to save my dog and contact us, they are the only heroes in this situation, as the people I pay thousands to, to keep my pets safe, did nothing but endanger one of them!!
I have 2 dogs and 3 cats with wellness plans that I will now be canceling, as this is the absolute last straw. The sheer terror and devastating anxiety that they made us go through because they failed at keeping our pet safe, they failed at communicating with us and they failed at actually maintaining their alleged “protocols” is immeasurable. And my situation is NOT unique. Look it up, there was a nearly identical case in Brandon, FL in 2020 and another in Pittsburgh, PA in 2021! So tell me again about your protocols? And explain how a small dog removes 2 leashes from themselves?
I reached out to Banfield and explained that I needed to be contacted by upper management immediately and I explained my situation, this was Saturday and it is now Monday evening and I have not heard from anyone, but the manager did call and leave me a voicemail on Sunday- I have nothing left to say to anyone working at this clinic, I need to speak to someone higher than that, but they do not seem to be at all concerned about the treatment of the animals they are paid to keep safe, or the people who spend thousands for 13+ years and have been loyal to them despite their better judgment. It’s disgusting and I wish I hadn’t fell for their money hungry scam when I was in a different financial situation, and just wanted to do what I thought was best for my pets. Banfield review. One star is too many for Banfield, they are scammers and money motivated!!!! Run away FAST. THEY KILLED TWO OF OUR DOGS. We have paid for over 9 years for the Banfield wellness plan, $150 a month for 3 dogs, totaling over $16,000 all to Banfield. All of our dogs went to a Banfield vet. Mostly they went once a year for a wellness check and got their shots. So in June 2022 we took them for their annual visit. Our 9yr old dog (dog 1), got a clean bill of health, our 15 yr old (dog 2), was diagnosed with severe kidney disease, which had never been mentioned before, and our 10 year old (dog 3), had a 'Fatty deposit' hanging off his back leg. But dog 1 healthy no issues, dog 3 was healthy overall even though he had kidney disease but his numbers were not spiking.
For the first time ever dog 2 was very ill, he had severe kidney disease. This was the first time we had been told this. We were taught how to give dog2 an iv, and we paid 200 dollars a week for the fluid, tubing, and needles. We also told the vet we would make an apt. For dog 3's teeth cleaning and fatty deposit removal. But within 2 weeks after his clean bill of health, dog1 was dead, he had cancer, Banfield NEVER caught it. After he died I called to cancel the wellness plan payment and had to FIGHT with the Banfield Chief of Staff, to not be charged as Banfield had missed his cancer completely, and it was a true fight. We were still giving dog2 IVs and shelling out 200 a week for supplies, at "major discount to us," due to the wellness plan we were paying Banfield, as we were told.
Two months later dog2 had a seizure in our home, my hubby and I rushed him to the Banfield vet and we were turned away, NO VET ON PREMISE!!!! NO TECH THAT COULD HELP HIM AS HE KEPT HAVING SEIZURES NOTHING, THEY COULD DO. We rushed him to the emergency vet where he passed away. I was heart broken, In less then 3 months I had lost 2 dogs after a wellness visit. But when I called to cancel dog2s wellness plan, it was another FIGHT! YES BANFIELD WANTED US TO CONTINUE TO PAY FOR HIS WELLNESS PLAN UNTIL IT ENDED 10 MONTHS LATER. Not only had Banfield made over 16k, on our payments alone, BUT another $1600 in IV materials. Trying to explain to them how they came out on top, and lost no money, had them in shock, I had figured it out! SCAMMERS.
But, we were so overwhelmed with our loss so we made the appointment for dog3 to have his fatty tissue sac removed. I get a call and am told to come and pick dog3 up, they have NO VETS THAT WILL DO SURGERY ON SOFT TISSUE!!!! By now my hubby and I are in shock, we were told to make the apt and then told, oops we don't do that surgery, and nothing mentioned about who could do it. Now it is Oct 2022 and this fatty tissue has burst and it is a open abscessed wound. It is gross and it stinks. So yup back to BANFIELD WE GO.
They take dog3 to the back and 2 mins later the vet comes out and says, "I believe this is cancerous, he had high calcium levels when we did his blood work in JUNE, so I am going to send you to another Banfield vet. That vet has agreed to see you and does surgery." We are in shock as no one had ever mentioned we were dealing with cancer! We head over to the recommended Banfield vet, and they looked at dog3 for 5 mins, they sent the tech out and she told us, "the vet team does NOT feel comfortable performing surgery, as it is cancer. Too many things can go wrong and we suggest a board certified surgeon." I asked well where is this surgeon? And how much, and when can they cut this nasty mass off our dog. They said we will get back to us, but hinted cancer is not something we should be taking lightly.
Suggested we go to the EMERGENCY VET, as it might be too late. We called a friend and they recommended their vet and we made an appointment. Dog3 is having surgery on Monday, none of his levels indicate wide spread cancer, and this real vet stated his other spiked values are easily dealt with, diet and medication.
IF YOU ARE A BANFIELD MEMBER RUN DO NOT WALK TO A REAL VET!!!! They killed 2 of our dogs, misdiagnosing them, and not reporting all the issues the dogs might have or did have. Never again Banfield never again, I have my last mutt registered with them as well as dog3 and I have asked for both to be canceled, I am sure I will get another fight, but I am up for it!!

Here is my personal Banfield story. On October 11, ten days ago, my English Bulldog, who is 2-years old, was scheduled for a dental cleaning at the Research Boulevard location in Austin, Texas. We left him at 7:30 in the morning. A few hours later, they called to inform us that Charlie had an emergency. It was less than five minutes from my house, so I hurried there quickly, but when we got there, we found out that he had regrettably passed away. This reality is surrounded by a great deal of uncertainty and unsolved questions. I want to draw attention to key factors that I believe are crucial to stopping this from happening. I try to keep my remarks brief and only provide what is required to describe what happened and how we felt.
At drop-off, we were informed that blood work and a physical examination is done, and if there was any "red flag," they would cancel the cleaning. I want to clarify that Charlie was a healthy puppy who had already undergone treatment under anesthesia, first for castration and then for removal of the soft palate. I was told that when the anesthesia started, his heart rate became unstable, so they gave him various medications to neutralize the effect and CPR. I remember that I asked to speak with the doctor who performed the procedure, and she told me that they did everything possible, but the only thing that made it clear to me was that they did not want to do an autopsy. I quote her words: “there is no reason to do an autopsy because usually nothing is reflected” (there are witnesses who were present). At that moment, when my wife and I were devastated, I accepted her suggestion, which I regret today.
Now for us, this information must be known, we have been investigating and there are hundreds of cases similar to mine with this company. Banfield uses a very effective marketing model that makes you feel the need to give our pets a generic plan that includes several vaccines, treatments and services that are just a strategy for them to make money; regardless of the consequences this may bring to our furry ones.
There are thousands of stories about it, I invite you to search, to google and not be left alone with what they sell. Ask yourself, does my dog really need this service? Does my dog really need a dental cleaning that puts his life at risk? Does my dog really need that vaccine if we don't live near swamps or lakes? Our pets must be treated with respect, as individual beings that they are, not as a generic product, they are living beings with specific needs, veterinarians must inform when a service puts the life of our dog at risk and not be complicit in the sale of plans generic for all our furry ones! Nothing will bring our baby Charlie back to us, but if we can prevent this from happening to another family, we will.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. I cannot put into words how disappointed and angry I am with this joke of an animal clinic. This place is a complete sham and they are not conducting the exams and treatment they claim to be doing. I sincerely encourage pet owners to take their pets elsewhere. We recently left Banfield and began going to District Vet due to concerning treatment and service (or lack thereof) received at Banfield. Upon taking her to District Vet, we were informed of several health issues with our cat that had never been mentioned in our two years taking our cat to Banfield – notably a tumor that was found and severe gingivitis which we were advised has become so bad that we must schedule tooth extraction.
District Vet identified these issues in one visit consisting of a routine physical exam – why these were not identified through the routine physical exams at Banfield (that they claim to be doing) in the years we’ve been going there, I have no idea. Based on this and several other recent issues, I’m convinced these exams have not been happening at all.
I’m under the impression that this animal clinic is not actually conducting thorough pet exams/treatment. The fact that you still have to schedule an appointment time, yet drop your pet off for a full day is beyond me. I understood this during covid but I think this is being used as a way to get as many pets in as possible, without following through with proper exams, just to bring in the $$.
Beyond the issues mentioned above, it took us a week to simply get any information as to what exams/treatments occurred during her most recent visit. I followed up every single day for a week until I finally got to speak with the vet and view the medical summary. Per the medical summary finally provided, I saw that several tests we requested were blatantly not completed. When I asked why, they said she was “too fussy”, yet I was still charged for the visit. There were several inconsistencies in their responses to this and my other questions, leading me to believe I believe this was a flat out lie.
I suspect that they just did not get around to doing it because we went to go pick her up at closing time she “wasn’t ready” leading us to think she had been sitting at the clinic all day without being looked at until we were there to pick her up. On top of all this, our cat has been dealing with a reoccurring ear infection for years – this place has no intention of identifying the underlying issue and what's causing it, but simply charging us for continuous labs and ear drop medications to "treat".
I was clearly upset about all of the above, and was told that the regional manager (or some title to that effect) would follow up with me – never got a call. These people clearly do not give a ** about your pets. If you’ve made it this far, hopefully you’re convinced to do yourself and your pet a favor and not step foot in this establishment. Beyond helping fellow pet owners, I’m hoping this triggers some kind of a response from Banfield, because calling and emailing has gotten me nowhere, HA.

In the last month my dog has seen 3 different doctors. The first one was Dr **. Gotta say she was excellent but why the 1 star is what follows from that visit on September 7 2022.
September 28th 2022 he was having trouble walking and going up steps. Once I got home at 8am, now Thursday September 29th I noticed he could not sit still. He moved at least 8 times within 20 min and he was crying off and on. I went to hold him and you could see tears in his eye. I immediately called Banfield. They ask if I could bring him in. We got there by 10 am. No sooner did I leave they called back and said, "Come get him." I spoke to one of the technicians when I arrived not the doctor, who was Dr **, she said that Dr ** thinks it may be a torn DCL or Lyme disease. Not sure but he was scheduled with Dr ** on Friday October 7 2022 and she could do bloodwork then and take x-rays.
She then expressed how important (this was the tech) it was to upgrade his plan because he would not be able to tolerate the positions they were going to put him in to x-ray his legs. Of course I said no problem. She then gave me some meds for Moose to take that was prescribed by Dr ** and said, "He may be a little tired but this should do it till the following Friday." He took this medicine 2 times 12 hours apart, once at 1030 am, he was lifeless, could not move, could not even raise his head, when I did get him to go outside he collapse 4 times. Now it is Thursday night about 6pm. I then gave him his second dose at 1030 pm. He went outside and again collapse so I just let him relax a bit out there and get some air.
After about an hour and I was checking him every 10 min and he would move a little bit, I decided to help him in. My son and I had to put a towel around him in the front and back and carry him in. He goes 112 lbs dead weight, I felt so bad for him. In the morning Banfield calls to check up, I told them he was doing horrible so she had the Dr call me about 2 hours later, she then said, "Maybe we should change his meds" and put him on a different medication. I told her, "He needs to be seen. This is no quality of life" so she said she would see what she can do. She had her technician call back few hours later and said Monday October 3rd. Drop off at 11. They will do blood work and the x-rays that were gonna be done on Friday October 7th.
She also ask if I could come pick up 2 scripts that Dr ** prescribed and to discontinue the other medication so I did. He started taking them at 4 pm Friday. Lo and behold 2 hours later he was a new dog. He was good Saturday and Sunday and Monday morning until I had to take him to his appointment at 11 am. He was fine going there happy, walking, smiling. They took him back and then ask me was it ok that we just drop him and leave. They will call me when he is finished, I said, "Well that was the plan when I talked with the tech the other day." That's when everything began. They had no idea why he was there and was asking me different questions. I then left.
At about 2 pm, 3 hours later they call to inform me that Moose cannot tolerate the x-ray without being put under, "Really?" I said. That was what was suppose to happen according to my talk and making the appointment with the tech that past Friday. So now my dog is in severe pain because this Dr who name is Dr ** or something similar was pretty much torturing him because seems like from Dr ** to Dr ** there was no communication. I then said, "Forget it. We will wait till Friday October 7th to see Dr **." I then said, "I need meds for the next few days till Friday when he can see Dr **." The tech said, "Nope. He needs bloodwork first" and that I needed to upgrade my plan for this which again I said, "Fine do so." She then said, "We will contact you after bloodwork."
Now it is 5pm. I have heard nothing so I call them and guess what they said. "We were getting ready to call you". They said, "Come in at 530. The Dr wants to speak with you.." Now it is 5:50 pm, finally Dr comes out and says there were to test that his blood was just a little elevated so once again they needed to change meds so we did. They finally bring my dog out at 615 pm, we walk him outside where he struggled to walk. We got him close to the car and he collapsed and could not get up. We had to lift him to get in the car.
Once we got him home and got him out of the car, it is now 630 pm. He moved very slow 4 different times in 1 and a 1/2 hours. I would check on him every 10 min and sit with him each time then around 8 pm which I just checked him at 755 pm he was not breathing. He had passed away. I have tried calling and emailing Banfield. They still have not returned any calls. Also they have me paying 74 dollars for a plan that he only had for 7 hours. Please just beware of this place.

We are a member of Banfield Pet Hospital Services in Seattle and the company's customer service is sub-standard. Despite our membership to ensure proper and timely veterinarian services for our puppy, we are met with two months' delays in scheduling routine, examination and vaccination services. In addition, the 2 times we needed emergency services for our French Toy Poodle the hospital was unable to deliver services due to unavailable staff. When contacting headquarters to discuss customer service issues, you quickly learned that the substandard service reigns from the top down because the company does not have a receptionist to direct calls or answer basic questions and upon speaking with a representative, they apologize for their substandard services on the basis that they are under-staffed.
As a member, we should receive a refund and discounted membership fee for lack of services due to staffing! Again, if the company was customer focus, they would’ve billed such a program into their membership. Because Banfield is a monopoly, we as customers do not have many if any alternative option for pet care services so we are stuck paying high membership fees, and rates for substandard services. Where is the justice!

BANFIELD wellness plans are a total waste of money and they just increase the monthly price at will. All they are good for are reduced prices on meds and visits. If your pet ever needs anything more than that it’s not covered. The vets at BANFIELD do a pretty good job in my opinion. Though, they will try to get you to do some dumb tests to pad bills. My previous dog had its eye scratched while playing with my current dog while he was still a puppy. They wanted me to test for degenerative eye disease when we explained what had happened to him. My current dog has required surgery twice and both times exactly $0 was covered by his wellness plan. Trying to cancel is harder than trying to cancel a gym membership as well. For all you pet owners thinking that getting a wellness plan would be a good idea, you’re far better off just paying out of pocket.

I took my cat who is getting very thin. $200 later I’m no closer to solving the problem. They didn’t give him an IV so he is withering away. I told them that that was all the money I had so they said that was what it cost for blood work. I paid them then they told me to try going to the SPCA (people that would care about his well being) and that $200 would have gone a long way there! I can’t believe they just sent him home not caring whether he lives or dies! What heartless people!

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A WELLNESS PLAN! We had to put my 14 year old dog down and we have to pay $300 to cancel the plan, or wait until the contract expires in 6 months. I understand that it's a contract but the fact that they have no exceptions for when your dog dies is unbelievable. We have to keep paying for a wellness plan for my dead dog and it's honestly heartbreaking. I will be telling everyone I know to not use this company because it's not worth the heartache of seeing a charge on my card for my dead dog for the next six months. Absolutely heartless and cruel organization.

I took my pedigree German Shepherd for an all day 8:00 am to 3:00 pm drop off with a whole list of new issues. I had to call literally 20+ times to say I was picking him up. Was told they didn't have time to examine his paws, etc. They didn't address any but ONE small preexisting issue. A few weeks later he was dead waiting for another appointment. I am not an MD, so I had no idea his symptoms added up to a dead dog. The icing on the (corpse) is that Banfield makes you continue to pay the length of your yearly commitment even though the animal is dead. I'm speaking to an attorney.

I had to put my dog down and I called to cancel the wellness plan. I want to know what sense does it make to pay for services that haven’t been paid for and my dog has passed. Now I have to pay $510 for the next seven months and my dog is no longer alive. Not to mention I paid more out of pocket because Banfield doesn’t seem to take into account that dogs grow older and can acquire illnesses and need more coverage. To do this while I’m already crushed about my pet! If I decide to get another pet, I will definitely shop around for other pet insurance options that won’t take the rest of your money for the remainder of the policy. Regardless, if that’s their policy, they need to rethink and change it or you’ll lose customers. Never again Banfield, I already paid $500 for my pet’s passing. Now I have to pay you the same!

Hi everyone, I have the wellness plan that Banfield offers for pet care, so when I had an emergency with my dog I rushed to Banfield Pet Hospital in Albany, Ca., I made sure I was there when opened in the morning. When I got there they would not see my pet nor offered to give me any advice on what to do for her. I was told to go to another Banfield Hospital, which are all far away (They probably wouldn't see her either). They stated there was only one vet and one nurse working at the time and they could not see my pet. I was also told that they only do wellness checks not emergencies. I told them that they should not be called a HOSPITAL, but a clinic. That place was totally useless. They didn't care if my pet lived or died. I'm sorry I got their wellness plan. If you have an emergency with your pet don't go there! By the way my pet is doing better NO thanks to them!

Very poor service. My puppy has an emergency and they can't see her for a week. We have been paying for their insurance for 2 dogs, so why force us to take her someplace else that we don't know the vet. Isn't that why we pay for the insurance in the first place so that if we have an emergency we can take her to the same vet. Very poor customer service, and their insurance is a scam, since they can't see their insured clients on an emergency. CAN WE SAY SCAM!!

I have been paying for monthly wellness programs on both dogs. Both have been going for few months. Yesterday 8/28/22, we were advice they would be ready for pick up from Vet visit at 2:00 pm. At 1:30 I was called again advising me to pick up the dog sooner because he was aggressive. I arrived at Banfield to have to wait 20 minutes.
My Dog had been going to the same Dadeland location with no issues. If he was aggressive, why did we have to wait? Home later that evening, I notice his scrotum red and swollen. He was perfectly fine when he was dropped off. I called and was informed no possible side effects to the vaccine or pyrantel. Obviously, something happened while he was dropped of waiting alone inside. I am puzzled, highly concerned, and as I write this now PISSED OFF. I wish I had read all the reviews prior to signing up to the program. I do not feel comfortable returning or trusting any of Banfield staff again. Also contacted corporate and the Vet hospital with NO responses.

Banfield is a waste of money. They never have open appointments, never answer the phone, can't even talk to the online "24/7" help. Not to mention they tack on hundreds of dollars for extra tests that are not included with the monthly fee that you already pay. I have a less than 1 year old puppy border collie that had a perfect DNA test, and not to mention is a puppy with no prior health conditions. They pretty much told me that if I didn't do an extra $100 blood screening test that they wouldn't feel comfortable proceeding with his neuter. Not surprised that of course the test came back totally normal. As a first time dog owner I feel very discouraged and anxious any time I bring my dog to the vet in worries that they may find some other "tests" that need to be done.

Hello Banfield lovers. This post is all about to explain the greediness of Banfield wellness optimum plans, if you are currently a wellness optimum plan member, beware, this plan is a big scam, you know why, because you will have to pay this plan's premium every month even if your pet passes away, yes you read it correct, no matter even if your pet passes away, they will want you to complete the full year payment, please continue to read my story.
I had my pet dog "Maya" golden retriever with Banfield since May 2011, so if you calculate the years, it’s pretty close to 11 years and 3 months, I have been paying the wellness plan premium every month and I am sure I paid at least 5k or more over these years on this wellness plan. Last week My pet had ear infection, she seemed in very bad shape, she scratched under her ear so much that even her hair came off, the skin was with full of rash, bloody and puss., I am calling the Banfield to explain the situation and they couldn’t accommodate very next day but after 4 days, and that too like “Ohh, we are full for next 2 weeks but I will try to squeeze Maya in for Thursday, I am calling Monday”.
So, within 4 days, I am assuming that my pet developed more infection and she was in very discomfort. Finally, I took her for appointment, dropped her off, got a phone call to explain that she had ear infections, she will need cleanings, treatment, medications, pills etc, my bill will be $400 something, I said, "Do whatever you need to do, please make sure she is not in pain and getting well sooner." Went in evening to check her out, paid the balance, took medications and came home, Maya wasn’t active at all. We kept giving medication and taking care of her, yesterday we went in the afternoon to some place and came back at night, went to check on her, she laid down on her bed dead, yes, she passed away, I couldn’t believe my eyes, I never thought that she would pass away because of an ear infection, keep in mind, she was a healthy dog, don’t know what caused her death, may be the medication? Or we were too late to treat the ear infection?
It just rattled me and my wife because we considered Maya as our first child always. Unbelievable what happened to her, we cremated her today, called Banfield to explain the situation, they were sorry for it (I bet you were sorry because if you could have seen her next day, she could have been alive now may be, I wish you could have given appointment next day and not after 4 days), anyway after explaining, I asked her to cancel the wellness plan, person said, they cannot cancel and I have to call different number, seriously, why? If I can enrolled in one of the Banfield office, then I should be able to cancel in the office as well, right?
Anyway, I called the other number and explained the situation, the person was not even sorry for my pet passed away but wanted to talk about how the plan premiums work, really? The plan is basically that provides discounts over the treatments that is done on the pets throughout the calendar period of 1 year, she continues saying since May 2022, you have had treatment for $800 something and you have paid close to $150 something in plan premium, so I will have to pay the difference either now or in a course of 12-month period, seriously? Is this a joke? Are you all even human sitting behind that phone and answering these phone calls? What kind of greediness is this? Where is the humanity? Where is the ethics? Why are you all like this?
It almost seems like no one learned a lesson from the pandemic that just hit us over the past 2 years, did you all forgot that the world came to complete stop at one point? If you even a one bit of kindness in your heart, you wouldn’t have talked about the balance for the wellness plan, I felt complete non sense when you were talking about the money when we were in grief.
Banfield get yourself together and please stop this non-sense, because sooner or later this will come back to you all as boomerang, what you sow is what you reap. Karma will always find a way to find every one of us. "Bottom line, Banfield's we love pet and their wellness and everything is fake, all matters to Banfield is Money and nothing else".

Adopted a dog at two years old in May 2019. Took him to Banfield wellness plan appointments. In September 2020 he had lab work that showed cancer. They never told me. Just said my dog was too fat. When he could no longer jump on the bed or sofa I thought maybe he was too fat. They said he had clicking knees. I took him for grooming every few months. They said he didn’t want his back legs touched. That dog would shake for two days after grooming. I thought he was cold. Now I know he was probably in pain. March 2021 my dog got so sick he could stand. I tried to get him into the hospital. Crying saying how bad he was. No Banfield could see him for 3 days. Finally took him to a VCA. They did blood work. They had to put him down in day 2. He was extremely ill dying with cancer. I was devastated that I put my dog through pain even more because they never told me he had cancer. I still feel bad to think about him dying.

I will say this first, the people who work at Banfield in Concord New Hampshire are excellent and very caring. However, any questions and concerns about your plan goes through corporate. We had a senior dog who needed a surgery. We took her to her check up and spoke to the vet about moving her up to the next level plan to help finance her operation. We thought about it and eventually at the end of the visit we agreed to sign up. Unfortunately our dog passed away about a week later.
When I went to cancel the plan, I had to call corporate and speak to a representative. They said that even though her visit happened in the morning and we signed up for the next level plan after the visit, they still considered that visit included in her upgraded plan (yet no upgraded services happened during this visit). The cancellation policy is you pay for the services you have received, or you pay the balance left on your plan. Makes sense. But for our dog who passed away a week after we upgraded her plan, they said we had to pay $700 for the one visit that took place (mind you, that visit took place before we signed up for the upgraded plan) or $900 to pay for the full year. If we hadn't upgraded her, her plan would have expired in November and we would have only had to pay $200.
That I'm okay with. $700 or $900 for an upgraded plan that we legit never used is incredibly unethical and disappointing. They said that we signed the paperwork on that day which would encompass any services we received that day. It feels like we have been taken advantage of and I will no longer be referring them to anyone. Go price out your local vets and support local businesses.

They don't even know what they prescribed, they told me it was a 7-day treatment, and they only gave me two pills, and they don't care about the health of your dogs. Terrible place, staff is negligent and they don't follow through with what they say. Cat went to the vet for an ear infection. Paid for ear swab, cleansing, injection, and round of antibiotics which didn't work. $180. Went back for an ear culture on 5/10/22 after the vet said this would be needed since the antibiotics didn't work, and this cost $184.34. The test results were lost even though we kept calling asking about them since the cat's ear had not healed and was majorly infected.
Finally received a call back over a month later that there was a mix up with the results and they had them for over a month. Due to their negligence they said that anything pertaining to this ear treatment would now be covered for FREE. This was told to me over the phone by Dr. **. Took the cat back to the vet on 6/27 where they cleaned the ear and gave new antibiotics for the infection and the additional yeast infection in the ear. On July 12th when the cat needed to go back for the final check up since it looks like the infection has cleared up, they now wanted to charge me for a final ear swab even though I was told all treatment for his ear would now be covered by them. I have now canceled my plan for all three animals and will be looking for a different vet after I filed a complaint with the BBB on this company.

My 15 year old dog developed a growth on her right side. I brought her in to Banfield to get it checked. Dr. said it’s a “cyst”. At 15 I said leave & it grew. I brought her back & they wanted to do surgery. I wasn’t sure if she would survive. It started to bleed for 6 weeks. I was told by the surgeon to get it removed. Two of my veterinarian friends told me the same. I had it removed. When I picked her up the surgeon put a (cheap) bandage on the surgery area. The bandage fell off within a hour. Which she said it probably will fall off. That bandage cost me $60.73. I had a surgical suit which she didn’t like and said it was “too tight”. So, I didn’t use it. She hemorrhaged 2 days later. Banfield was closed. I told my veterinarian friends they said to wrap it tight. I did but it still bled.
I took her to the ER. The doctor wanted to know why I didn’t put ice packs on her right after the surgery and why she wasn’t wearing a surgical suit. Her whole body was bruised from the surgery. That’s what was causing the bleeding. The ER doctor wrapped her and told me when she bleeds through the bandage use a thunder coat or the surgical suit to cover the bandage and keep it from bleeding. She hemorrhage again and I just couldn’t put her through anymore pain. She had major surgery at 15 and no one from the hospital even called to check on how she was doing. I wasn’t given any after instructions on how to care for her after surgery. I was told if the bandage falls off use a tee shirt on her so she won’t scratch it. I was given a paper with information about anesthesia.
The surgeon called me back after I call the hospital and told her what I felt that this call was much too late. Also, I mention all the bad reviews even on Yelp. I learned a lesson. Do your homework and check the reviews. I never though a big corporation like Banfield would be so horrible. They know about the bad reviews but haven’t corrected them. Why? I guess they are making money from people who are unaware of the things going on. I’m so happy I had my rescue dog for 13 1/2 years. I knew she had cancer but I was told the surgery would make her more comfortable and add a few more months of life. Even her last moments there were problems putting her to sleep. Her body was so swollen that the euthanasia injection had to go through the heart not the vein. At least she was knocked out for that. I hope these reviews stop people from going to Banfield.

I was on their wellness program paying $36 a month it also entails free office visits. But if you mentioned to the program when I called to make an appointment they said because I was a member I had to do it online. Which is always a pain in the neck because it seems to never save your password so every time you log in you have to go to the process of setting up a new password which they are very very strict throughout so it's kind of hard. After I logged in and tried to make an appointment I got a message saying nothing available for 2 months which I was pissed about, my dog needed an appointment. I tried two weeks later and got the same message again nothing available for two months.
I had a friend of mine who wasn't remember call them up to book an appointment same size dog he said but the same symptoms he got an appointment within two days. Seems to me that if I wanted my dog to be seen I was better off not being a member so I stopped paying. At that point they contacted me and the lady I spoke with explained to contact the practice manager at the location I went to which is perimeter center in Dunwoody, Georgia. Except at the time this particular center did not have a practice manager. They were looking to hire one.
After about a month or so I decided for the sake of my dog to give them another try cuz I want to take care of my dog so I called the lady up and I made it a payment for the past two amount $36. Told her I would make the other payment the following Monday. 7/25/22. They're affiliated with PetSmart I went to the PetSmart first at the groomers I'm sitting there watching the girl cut my dog's nails when she claims he nipped her and I did not see him do that at all. Nevertheless she claims she was too scared and refused to service it. The other girl did that was there said she wasn't going to mess with no big dog so therefore they refused to see my dog. They told me I could go to Banfield and try them which was next door.
I got the Banfield give the girl my information. I told her he only needed one paw done. The first thing she has across the room is you're still going to have to pay the whole $19. I wasn't looking for financial like that and I thought it was rude. Anyway after sitting out there for a while somebody comes out to get my dog. Now I had asked if I could watch first. They said no. Then after a while she said I could from a different room. Fine with me but when they came and got him they wished him off to the back so fast so I couldn't go with them to watch. I had read online about people's dogs dying or going to get just the nails cut at PetSmart.
The girl comes out within 60 seconds and claim my dog jumped at her to bite her. That's not true. My dog has hip dysplasia. He can't jump up on anybody. Either way she refused to see the dog so basically they were sending me on my way now telling me between a pet store and a pet hospital nobody could cut the nails on my dog which was crazy. The alternative I had was to spend an extra $65 on some type of sedative pills in which I would have to leave the hospital go home, come back to the hospital, get the pills, pay 65$, go back home, give the pills to my dog starting the night before bring him back to the hospital to get his nails cut and then take him home. So for approximately $85 and several trips was the only way these people could cut my dog's toenails on one paw, are you kidding me.
I left there, went to Petco and for $5 and no problems, they cut my dog's toenails. I taking him to other places before to get his nails cut and never had a problem. I left Banfield and naturally not paying the extra $36 and I was really mad. They were supposed to call me back and set up the time for me to come pick up these $65 pills which they never did, I then called up their customer service number and told them I wanted my $35 back that I paid a few days before then since it was obvious they weren't going to be providing any kind of service she said to contact the practice manager at the perimeter location. Of course called the perimeter location and there is no practice manager there.
Call up the customer service number again and tell them my problem, they put me through to a department that was supposed to help me. The person from that department said they could do nothing to help me because the people at the perimeter location had my account open. And I said, "Why don't you call them up and tell them to close it?" he said, "No we don't do that." I said, "So basically too bad for me, you've gotten my money, you won't give me any service and you won't give me my money back. Is that how this is going to end?" And the guy didn't say anything.
I mean I was looking to get my dog's toenails cut and these people are giving me this kind of a runaround. This is after paying $36 a month. When I bought my dog to that exact location for a minute center in March there was no problem with him at all. They had him there for a whole day giving him vaccinations and doing other stuff and said nothing bad about him.
Can I bring them there to get his nails cut and he's too dangerous of a dog that they don't know how to handle it. They want me to pay an extra $65 to cut his nails and which they still haven't contacted me about coming to get the pills so they won't even cut my dog's toenails but they're charging me $36 a month. This all happened on Monday today's Friday and I've never heard back from anybody and they won't give me my money back I'm asking for the $36 I paid last week. That is the craziest and worst treatment I've ever heard of in my life for something as simple as a nail trim.

I have been taking my cat to Banfield for 7 years, since she was an 8 week old kitten. They never called her by her sex, which is female, always referring to her as "him". My cat's name is Tucker, so I let the confusion slide, correcting them every time. Further down the road, I take Tucker in for an emergency visit because her tail was bitten by a garden snake, no big deal. One doctor stated they would have to cut her tail off!! While another doctor said, "oh no, she's fine". I'm sorry, but where is the confusion of the diagnoses of my pet's wound coming from??
Fast forward to today 7/26/2022 when I take her for a scheduled dental cleaning and comprehensive exam. I drop Tucker off for 4 hours, they call to update me that she's ready to go, I pick her up and take her home. Tell me why they shaved the underbelly of my 7 year old cat because they "confused her" with a kitten that needed to be spayed... Worst vet experience I have EVER had. Imagine if they had proceeded with the procedure and actually cut my cat open. STAY AWAY FROM BANFIELD.

I would stay away from Banfield. Their Optimum Wellness Plan (OWP) is a monthly charge. If you want to cancel that plan because their service was terrible (which was my case) they will charge you the entire year's plan up front. Now keep in mind, I took my dog there to have her eyes check because I noticed a problem with her eye. Banfield looked and said "Oh her eyes are fine". Not trusting Banfield, I took her to a Vet Eye Doctor who determined my dog had PANNUS which can lead to blindness. When I tried to cancel Banfield, they tried to charge me the entire year. WHY?! Banfield failed us, why would I pay for terrible service? Now I am arguing back and forth and Banfield still charged me for another month even though my Dogs have been moved to a PRIVATE Veterinary Clinic. You are best to avoid Banfield if you really want your dogs taken care of. Find a good private clinic to take them to.

I have been using Banfield for my pets for more than 20 years, I move to Knightdale NC, and the Banfield there is the worst I have ever deal with. I am paying for a service, I had an emergency, my one year old puppy got bitten on her leg was bleeding all night. Call them at 7am so I can take her, I didn’t care at what time, all I wanted was for her to be seeing, but no, all they said, is, "Sorry we don’t have anything available," like, "O well who care if your dog is bleeding!!" I call 2 other Banfield in Raleigh and they say the same thing. Why I am paying for the service when they don’t care for the animals. Don’t get the service, is expensive and they don’t care about your pet's well-being.

I have been going to this vet for many years. It's the 1st vet however that when I take the dogs in for an annual checkup they have you drop them off early in the morning and have them there all day which I think is strange enough. I dropped them off at 7am this morning. I usually get a call by early afternoon to let me know if they need further care or if they are ready to be picked up. It was 3pm, I called to check on their status because it had been 8 hours since I dropped them off and I knew they were the 1st 2 animals to be checked in.
I waited on hold for 10 minutes, the Dr picked up and verified who I was calling about. I verified my pets' names for him, he said they were ready to be picked up. I asked him if he had just finished with them, he said no they had been done for a couple hours. I questioned why I didn't get a call earlier, he said he was too busy to call. I stated to him that there was no reason for the dogs to be cooped up in the small kennels they have for an extra 2 hours because he was too busy to call. He simply said "just come get your dogs" and he hung up on me. I immediately went up there, told the counter help who I was there to pickup and explained what had just happened on the phone. They apologized for the situation but did not seem surprised. This dr was rude and unprofessional and I plan to seek medical service for my pets elsewhere. It's strange enough keeping pets there for almost a whole day just for a checkup, but then to be treated the way I was is unacceptable.

Banfield’s motto “Banfield Cares.” WRONG! After two consecutive 6 months checkups missing the tumor, I showed the vet who misdiagnosed it. A second opinion vet removed the malignant tumor and said it had been there so long it may render the dog incontinent or worse. In addition to my grief, I am required to pay ten more months of the Wellness Plan. For incompetence and negligence and not following up on any customer care calls, I give Banfield ZERO STARS!

Like many of us, I want to give my pet the best care I can. I purchased the OWP for that reason. My first visit-when I bought the plan-everything was normal. Vet tech, then in back for exam, then DVM talked to me and answered any questions. Great. Normal. For my second appointment - now that I am already in the plan. Only get to see a tech. Kitten gets a “Vet Tech Exam”. No one asked if that was ok with me. Hospital staff said they “just started doing the to get more animals seen” $$$$. I didn’t vomit to OWP for vet tech care. I signed on for veterinarian care.

My 12 yo lab had severe diarrhea. I took him to Banfield off Woolbright in Boynton Beach Fl. The tech stated without any tests he has parvo. They tested him. Showed positive. But very faint. I had to wait another hour for them to run to another location to get a test. They stated it was positive. Sent me to an emergency place. Once there a bill for treatment was $3900. Banfield made it sound like he may not make it. So bring the bill for treatment. I was unfortunately thinking of the worst option. The Dr was amazing at the hospital. And offered another test. Which was NEGATIVE for parvo!!!
He was merely treated for anxiety. All tests were a great health report. But was still kept overnight. They felt bad in regards to Banfield mistake. She adjusted the bill to $1250. Not counting I missed a day of work no pay. This was last Feb. Hired a lawyer. After several letters they only offered to pay $250 for the misdiagnosis. Several letters were sent again. And nothing. I even emailed the president of Banfield. Nothing!!! Please think before using this hospital. Poor service. Corporate office ignores you. Horrible experience.

Our dog may have cancer and waiting a week for results we should have already received by now is asinine. The results should be available for any vet or vet tech to see so we can proceed with what needs to be done for our dog. Unfortunately this is not the only issue we have had with Banfield and we will not be renewing our plan when it comes time. These plans are not worth my dog's life.

We have been with Banfield for 18 years, 3 dogs. Our dog was breathing rapidly and wouldn’t eat. My husband tried to get her in to see the Vet, they said take her to an Emergency Hospital, the one they gave us opened at 3 pm (this was at 9am). Our Bella passed away around noon at home waiting for her appointment. To add salt to the wounds they said I had to call corporate to cancel her policy. When I called they said it's an annual plan, if you cancel before you have to pay for services rendered at regular cost. I said I can see that if I was just canceling, and going somewhere else, but she died (we bought her to Banfield to arrange cremation). So I ended up paying an additional $200 for (services rendered).
I referred so many people to them over the years, because they actually use to take care of my dog if they were sick. My last dog had a seizure and they had me come right in, I guess their focus changed over the years. I will now tell all my friends I referred and anyone else who will listen, get a REAL so you have someone to depend on.

I’ve been using Banfield for years and I will not be renewing with them. This is not a good company unless your pet is healthy all the time. I’ve never had any issues with Banfield in the past. My dogs have generally been healthy, but this experience did me in. My Border Collie clearly had a UTI, so I called my regular Banfield as soon as I realized, trying to get an appointment for the next morning; not an emergency, but I’d say still pretty urgent.
It took me calling 5 hospitals around DFW before I could get her an appointment. Then, at the Banfield where I was actually able to get her in, they cancelled the morning of because the vet called in sick. Had to call more hospitals to find her another appointment. Took her in at 7:30am the next morning, almost 2 days later, where they charged me for a urinalysis and said it could take 2-3 days for her labs to come back. So I was sent home with NO antibiotics and a $60 bill, and was told repeatedly to just wait for the labs—while my dog has blood in her urine and is peeing all over our house. By the time I get any medication, it will almost have been a full week.
Why do I pay almost $700/year for these services? There was no sense of urgency with any location. When I called to follow up, the techs were rude and basically told me I could either pay out of pocket for 2 separate antibiotics or just wait for her labs to come back. My dog is almost 9 years old, so you’d think her veterinarian would be more considerate. Will absolutely be looking for a new vet as soon as my contract is over with them.

I enrolled my cat in the Banfield extra plan when I lived in one city. I was more or less pleased with the doctors and staff, although I never received the "free" first exam--I was charged for it and they would not remove the charge. I changed to another Banfield office when I moved up the road 60 miles. The staff at the new office was fine, the doctors, not so much. When I was told my cat needed a shot but that IT WAS NOT COVERED under the plan, I asked why not. No factual answer; what is the purpose of the plan if required shots are not covered at @$450.00/year? No factual answer--"it isn't covered." When my cat was seemingly hurt, they could not find anything wrong--Dr. said cats are hard to diagnose!!?? When I returned about a week later, a different Dr. said she would give him a shot--ALSO NOT COVERED--and miracle of miracles, he recovered.
This is only the beginning. Following this fiasco, I went online and CANCELLED my plan in February. When my bill came in March, I called and told them I cancelled my plan. They said, "OK, this will be your last charge." I then got my April bill and ANOTHER CHARGE. Now, they say there well be no further charges. Evidently, the PLAN lasts for an entire calendar year, so you CAN NOT CANCEL even if the care is sub-standard and the required shots are not covered. It seems to me that the "plan" is simply an annuity to keep you coming back so they can charge you for "required" treatments that are NOT COVERED BY THE PLAN.
When a customer is dissatisfied and cancels the plan, they are required to pay out entire year even if they do not wish to use their care facilities any longer. While many will say that I should have "read the fine print" requiring me to pay for an entire year and that lists the items that are covered, I agree, but also I would suggest that the company provide a clear and concise data sheet when enrolling that clearly explains these terms and conditions. In addition, I would suggest that the REQUIRED shots that are NOT COVERED are clearly listed in any documentation provided and the PRICES for these required shots also be listed so that the customer is not blindsided.
I am very unhappy with the dollars I spent for what I consider sub-standard and somewhat sneaky care. I take responsibility for not reading the fine print, so that is on me. However, a REPUTABLE company will explain their terms and conditions clearly and make sure the customer understands the rules and limitations BEFORE committing to them. It all seems shady to me and not the way a business should be run. You can make your own determination, but be sure to ask questions before you enroll. You are stuck for paying for the 12 months whether you are pleased with the care or not. I have since found a local office that is both small, quiet, professional, and charges reasonable rates for retired customers like me in a town full of billionaires, which I am not. Possibly your local independent office is a better choice for you and your pet. You have to decide this for yourself.

I have no complaints about the doctors or staff, however, their pet contracts are a nightmare! I was a paying customer on their contracts for 3 years for one pet, never missed a monthly payment. I lost my job and had to move to a rural area where there was no Banfield Pet Hospital located within 3 hours. There had been no services rendered at all yet for the new contract. I called them to try to cancel and was told I had to payout my entire contract, yet I had no job and their payment was making my checking account overdraft, because again I was unemployed!
I had to go to my bank and stop payment on the withdrawal! Within a month or so they had turned me into collections. This is unbelievable! They were wanting $692 for nothing!! No services done to my dog at all! Companies like this are a total scam, out for money and trying to ruin people’s credit. I had worked hard to restore my credit score after a divorce, all to be lowered again for this. I hope this helps someone in the future before they decide to get a contract for their pet through this company.

My adult dog had a stomach bug, we took her in and the vet recommended the Wellness Plan. My husband and I considered it, she was getting a bit older so we agreed. Within 2 months our poor dog's health declined, we had to come in and get more tests, including a second round a blood tests that wasn't included, and she passed away. Almost two months after she passed I got charged for the Wellness Plan and called to see what could be done. The answer is nothing, I signed a year contract. So I lost my dog, paid for extra stuff that wasn't covered in the plan, and now get to continue to pay each month (for 10 months) until my contract is up. I really enjoyed the vets at the location, but not if their purpose is to offer extra tests and these plans. Then really stick it to you when it doesn't work out.

Banfield played a major role in causing the suffering and death of my new kitten! They ignored blood test results, failed to look back into her records when brought back in for a sick visit, and proceeded to administer a rabies vaccine without my consent, while she was suffering symptoms. She came home incontinent and unable to walk. I took her to a vet and he said she was in complete kidney failure and was euthanized that day while I held her. They wouldn’t cancel the contract and continued to take money straight out of our bank account, even after her death! We called the bank and they took care of it, we told them it was fraud. There's a lack of disclosures when they sell you the insurance at the location. They are clearly compensated as they sell you with the insurance being a better deal and even upsold me a few months later not disclosing a contract upgrade. Don't do it, find a local vet who sees you as a human, not a greedy insurance company who sees you as a profit.

I brought my puppy into the vet because she kept urinating and had diarrhea. They called me and said they needed to do bloodwork and x-rays, like always to get extra money so I did which cost me almost $800 for them to tell me that it was inconclusive and they recommended emergency surgery to spay my dog. Never once did they run a urinalysis. They said they think my dog has pyometra and they recommended emergency surgery. They sent me home with my dog bleeding still urinating continuously and diarrhea. They gave me antibiotics and said they will call me in the morning if one of the hospitals would perform the surgery which was going to cost me over $2500. Plus they wanted to do an ultrasound another $2500. They called me the next morning and said they have no available appointments to do the emergency surgery. Thank God for that.
I ended up taking my dog to Lawndale pet Hospital. He looked over the blood work, looked over the x-ray and did a urinalysis come to find out she had a severe bladder infection. For that price at Lawndale was $115. Banfield pet hospital almost had me have emergency surgery on my puppy female by the way for nothing. And I do plan on breeding her. I am shocked and appalled. I must say one thing though everyone there at the Banfield Hospital Culver city is very friendly. However it’s so hard to get an appointment at any Banfield let alone try to cancel your policy if one of your pets die. I will continue my service at Lawndale pet Hospital and once my policy is over with Banfield I will never step foot in there again.

Original Review: They won't let you cancel your policy even after your pet has died. Imagine that! Highway robbery. The service charges are still really high and they have a terrible shortage of vets. They tell you that you are getting a discount on the services but when you shop around, you find out that they charge more than others to start with. Also, visiting the vet can be very traumatic for your pet because they expect you to leave your pet with them all day even for a short visit. I do not recommend Banfield Pet Hospital.

My cat of 17 years (Mister), got sick all of a sudden on 4/22/22 early morning, with constant vomiting and diarrhea. I tried to get him an appt at the regular Banfield he goes to, but they couldn't see him and had no openings for a couple of days. I took a chance and called the one in Duncanville, TX. and I believe it was Megan who took my call. I explained to her about my cat's sickness and asked if they could please fit him somewhere that same day. I was put on a brief hold, and she returned and said they could see him at 9:15am that day! I was a little late getting there because of morning traffic, but they didn't give me a hard time, and just signed him in and gave me the necessary paperwork to fill out!
The vet tech Steven came out to speak with me concerning what was going on with Mister and he really seemed interested in my concerns. He then proceeded to let me know the course of diagnosis plan they would take to try and see what illness was causing the problem. I was given a estimated price of what the treatment would cost, and I was pleased because I only had an available $300 for this emergency visit and the estimate was about $255. I left Mister there feeling like he was in good hands!
The veterinarian that took care of him was Dr. **. Wow, there is not enough time or space to say how impressed I was with his professionalism, obvious care and genuine concern for my Mister's issue and his overall health! From the phone call he made to me to discuss his findings, and the path of treatment he suggest would be best, including medications needed to get my kitty back to better health! I explained to him that I only had $300 to cover his visit because I'd lost my job, and he said that he'd see what he could do to get my final bill as close to that amount and still get what was needed to help heal my Mister! I was so overwhelmed at his wanting to help me like that! He even came out to talk to me again, when I came to pick Mister up! 10 Stars⭐ #Grateful/Thankful

Let me start by saying we have been pet plan subscribers at Banfield for roughly 10+ years. We have 3 dogs which Banfield does not hesitate to deduct $120+ A month out of our checking account for. Our dog has been dealing with diabetes for ~5 years and recently has begun having issues with his glucose spiking and going below minimums. Due to this Dr. Hayden ** suggested we put him on a glucose monitor and return to see him on Monday. Reschedule day to attend appointment, yet Dr. ** was nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, other doctor who was there, Dr. **, refused to see our dog or even come out to chat about what we should do. Even though I was able to provide graphs showing his blood sugar was dipping into the danger zone. They suggest we move appointment to this morning to which we did for a virtual appointment. We log on to appointment- no Dr. **. Nurse states he refuses to talk to us because he believes we aren’t following his plan and to take our dog to medvet.
In Summary- Dr. ** is by far the most unprofessional veterinarian I have ever met. I have never had a doctor refuse to even talk to a patient or pet owner. To take the stance that he is just done with our dog is unbelievable. I will be filing a BBB complaint and suing to have my pet plan membership charges refunded. I encourage any person checking these reviews to determine if they should go to this clinic to reconsider. For anything beyond standard check ups and teeth cleanings that they CONSTANTLY want you to pay for, other things don’t seem to be their specialty. Constant referrals to Med Vet to spend more money will be in your future. They will strongly push for you to join their pet plan but I assure you, it’s not worth it and you will be wasting your money.
