How does Pettable work?
Pettable offers free pre-screening services to start. The rest of the process to get your pet registered is done in about three steps.
- Once payment is submitted and your appointment is scheduled through the website, you’ll receive an email to activate your account.
- Once your account is activated, the process will prompt you to fill out the required forms to give more information to your clinician before your scheduled appointment.
- Your assigned clinician will call you at your scheduled appointment time and let you know if you’ve qualified. If you've qualified, your clinician will upload your letter to your portal for you to view and print.
If for any reason your letter is not approved, Pettable will refund your entire purchase.
An ESA letter can cover up to two animals. If you’re a resident of Arkansas, California, Iowa, Louisiana or Montana, state law requires you to establish a client-provider relationship for at least 30 days before qualifying for an ESA letter.
Landlords in Montana can also request supporting information about a tenant's need for a support animal, which requires a licensed medical health professional to identify the emotional need the animal relieves. However, the landlord cannot require information about the tenant's diagnosis.
How much does Pettable cost?
Single ESA letter pricing ranges from $99 to $169. This is for one letter that gives you the right to keep an emotional support animal under the Fair Housing Act (FHA) regardless of landlord rules or housing policies. A single Pettable letter covers up to two animals, provided the therapist approves both pets. If you are seeking an ESA for three or more animals, this requires an additional letter, which can be purchased as an add-on.
If you aren’t approved for an ESA letter or your landlord does not accept the letter after filing a complaint with HUD, Pettable refunds your entire purchase amount.

My experience with Pettable was impressive! Everything was super easy and convenient! Dr. ** was nice and very easy to talk to. She educated me and knows her stuff. After I submitted my ESA letter to my apartment complex, they asked for me to have her sign more documents. I was worried I may have a hard time getting back in touch with her. I've looked through many of those ESA cites and was feeling hesitant of their legitimacy. Pettable had the most positive reputation and setting up the appointment was very simple. The therapist was running a little behind schedule but no more than 10 minutes which was okay. The meeting was short and simple and I was able to get my ESA letter the same day! No problems with my landlord accepting it however I do live in an already pet-friendly apartment so I'm not sure how this might be different for other places.

I have complex ptsd, and getting pets is a very important part of my life as I use them to distinguish what sounds are real and what isn’t. Process is pretty straightforward & understandable when reading information by yourself. It’s nice you can register 2 animals. Therapist asked relevant questions. However, I did not know it’s likely the applicant could get an ESA letter from their doctor. That may be a better choice for those who can’t afford Pettable’s fee or cannot wait 30 days.

The service does what you need it to do but they charge extra to confirm a provider approved your animals. Definitely a cash grab but it works for getting your animals covered for housing.

This experience was great. The only suggestion I would make is that you make the applicant aware that there would be a $50 Forms/Verification fee for PetScreening. Ms. Shonna ** was on time and thorough in her questioning and assessment regarding my cats and how they affect my life. She wrote my ESA letter referencing the law regarding the ADA Disabilities Act, pertaining to disclosures of information (medical or emotional) that a landlord cannot ask, and assessments she gathered from our interview. The letter was accepted within 24 hours of my sending it in to petscreening.com who handles all pet acceptances/denials for residents at the apartment complex.

I'm grateful for Pettable. Because of Pettable I got to keep my 2 dogs. I moved to a new place and the HOA only allowed two dogs. My husband has two dogs and I have two Chihuahuas. I have very bad anxiety and my Chihuahuas help me overcome that. If it wasn't for Pettable, the HOA would not allow me to keep my Chihuahuas. Wow!! I have a 4 month old puppy and I have 4 different harness on my table, I thought it was normal for him to bite and avoid the harness at all cost, until, I found this one, I put it over his head and he just sits there and lets me buckle him up, no fuss, no biting, it’s wonderful!! It’s really easy and great, the only thing I don’t like about Pettable is when you renew your year, it’s not added on to the end of your current year, it’s whenever the meeting takes place. And they incentive and beg you to do it a month early each year, otherwise they say you’re going to be paying 50 more every year. That’s my biggest issue but otherwise Pettable is great and I love it, the process is super easy.
