I contacted Trane Customer Service, received a case number, and was told someone would contact me by email. More than 24 hours later, I still had not received the promised follow-up. What makes this even more frustrating is that I understand the replacement motor may have warranty coverage, but getting someone to actually address the warranty issue has been extremely difficult.
Trane promotes itself as America’s Most Trusted HVAC Brand, but after nearly 9 years of repeated problems and the current lack of timely customer service, that is not my experience. I purchased this system expecting reliability and have instead dealt with repeated component failures, expensive repairs, and now an 87°F home while waiting for a warranty issue to be addressed. This has been my personal experience with Trane, and based on that experience, I would not recommend the brand.

9/10/16 We are going on month number 3 of having one non-working unit. There are too many details to list, but in a nutshell, Trane has not reached out with any updates, apologies or solutions to try to make this right. Apparently, the parts we need for this unit are not available at this time for reasons not communicated to us. In response to an email my husband sent approximately 2 weeks ago, letting them know our issue, a respondent replied with telling us, basically that WE need to provide them with the parts numbers for the items needed for our only 2-YEAR-OLD unit. I'm sorry but, it's not our responsibility to provide them with the parts numbers they need, it is our install company, Palladin's responsibility, but they're just as frustrated as we are and, if Trane won't so much as contact them to get the information themselves after my husband's complaint email, it makes us question if their desire to provide good customer service is priority.
If this had been a single unit household, we would have been in a hotel for the last 2+ months. Fortunately the unit on the side of the house where our bedroom is, is working, but it's also working "overtime" to compete to cool both sides of our home. Hopefully it will withstand. Also we didn't need to hear that this is a "peak-season" issue. If that's the case, then they should have more than enough parts in stock, having been prepared well ahead of said peak-season. Apparently they have a huge warehouse, right here in Phoenix too. Sadly, we are very disappointed with Trane's lack of customer service and people we know who have been affiliated with Trane in the past have told us that their customer service is not what it used to be. Very disheartening.
Trane, please step up. Palladin, thank you for doing everything you've been trying to do for us. Sorry the lines of communication are lost between you and Trane. Overall, we feel it is more than unacceptable to have to wait almost 3 months to get this resolved. I sincerely hope no homes with elderly or very small children have to go through what we are currently going through. Thank you for reading.

Very disappointed with the reliability of our Trane system. At only about 5 years old, despite annual professional maintenance, it developed two leaks in the condenser and another in the evaporator coil, leaving us with nearly $3,000 in labor costs even though the parts were under warranty. Trane offered only 20% reimbursement. That said, every phone support representative I spoke with was extremely kind, professional, and helpful. Great people—unfortunately, the equipment reliability and warranty resolution were disappointing.

I purchased a brand-new house in July 2025 in Central Texas, it came with a Trane HVAC system. 2 weeks ago my compressor froze, so I had to pay for a service call to get it fixed. One week later the AC stopped working again, another service call! This time the blower motor stopped working. Since the parts are still under warranty, they had to order a replacement blower motor. 5 days of no air conditioning with temperatures of 97 to 101 degrees. Finally the part came in and it cost us $551.00 for the installation of the part. It would be nice if Trane at least warranted their parts for a couple of years, without it costing the homeowner so much money for faulty parts. I will never buy a Trane system again.

After reading what AI had to say about reviews on Trane, I know I'm not alone not getting good service and support. Our a/c unit was installed in Oct., 2022. Recently we had to have a part replaced that was still under warranty. First - they didn't even have a replacement part. They had to make one. Sounds to me like maybe quite a few had to be replaced and there should have been a recall.
Because of their part's failure I wound up paying for the freon. Their part leaked the freon, but "I" had to pay for new installation of freon. Sent them texts, and copies of what they asked for a few times. Have talked to people at Trane - always they say they didn't get the info. Someone was to call me - didn't happen. Sent items they requested to the address they provided, and they say they never got it. Finally, they notified me that my case was closed because of not getting the info. I lost count how many times I sent it! Lousy service and no service. Won't buy another!

Trane customer service department won’t respond back after I contacted them. The labor was $500, and the replacement cooling gas was $1000. Absolutely don’t make a mistake like we did.!! I had Lowe's put in a brand new Trane hvac system 10 years ago and the minute the warranty expired, it died, and now I'm looking at replacing it for over $8,000!! I kept hearing that Tranes usually last 15 to 20 years, but not in this case, even after I paid for regular, expensive maintenance twice a year faithfully for the entire 10 years I've had it. And what thanks do I get? I get to go in the hole financially and replace the entire unit!!! What a ripoff!! Never will I buy another Trane! This has been the worst experience.

I purchased a brand-new Trane AC unit just two years ago, expecting premium reliability. Instead, the unit has completely stopped running due to leaking coils. Trane's customer service and the company completely refuse to acknowledge this issue or stand by their inferior product. Because of this catastrophic failure during a brutal summer heat wave, my family was left in unsafe conditions. It was so bad that my installer had to step in and temporarily install an older model from a completely different brand just to keep us safe and cool. A company should absolutely be held responsible when they fail to render the services and reliability you paid for. My neighbors have all witnessed the AC installer constantly at my house, and I have firmly warned my family, friends, and neighborhood never to purchase a Trane product. Do not buy from this company—they do not stand behind what they sell.

BRAND NEW UNIT ONLY LASTED 3 YEARS. Coil welds ruptured and the freon leaked out inside our house. Tech said it was a factory defect. Went to do a warranty claim. Trane only covered the part, made me pay a huge amount of money to get the item shipped. I can't believe their warranty doesn't cover shipping on a factory defect. No option for expedited shipping so I'm waiting 2 weeks in extreme 90 degree heat for a new part. Never again on Trane products, go find someone that has better customer service and warranty.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Trane. As part of our home purchase agreement, the previous owners installed two new Trane HVAC units and informed us that they carried a 10-year warranty. Several years later, when we began experiencing issues with one of the units, we contacted the realtor and were provided with the warranty documentation. Only then did we learn that ownership of the warranty was required to be transferred within 90 days of the home's sale. At no point during the home purchase process were we informed of this requirement by Trane, the installing contractor, or the realtor involved in the transaction. Had we been made aware of the requirement, we would have completed the transfer immediately.
After only six years of service, the compressor failed and required a costly replacement. When we contacted Trane Consumer Relations, we were told there was nothing they could do because the warranty had not been transferred. My frustration is that the performance and reliability of the equipment have nothing to do with whose name is on the warranty registration. The unit was installed, operated, and maintained at the same home. A major component failed well within what most homeowners would reasonably expect to be the covered warranty period. I understand that companies have policies, but I believe customers should be clearly informed of critical requirements that can completely void warranty coverage. Based on my experience, I feel Trane did not stand behind its product when a significant failure occurred.

Installed two units in November 2025. In May 2026, compressor on one failed. Dealer replaced it. Last night weather related power outages lasted about 4 hours. Units have not come back online. Every other device in the house is back and functioning. The older Tranes we had were more reliable. They came back up after a 5 day storm caused power outage. Looks like Trane did no quality control and testing on the electronics. The only redeeming feature is the Trane Dealer [Total Heating and Air Conditioning in Greensboro, NC]. They are very receptive and quick.

Headline: Premature pipe failure and hard-to-find leaks on a 4-year-old unit⭐⭐ (2 out of 5 Stars). I bought a Trane HVAC unit because of the brand's reputation for premium quality and reliability. Unfortunately, that has not matched my reality. Within the first four years of ownership, the system developed a slow, elusive refrigerant leak that left us without proper cooling and required multiple diagnostic visits to locate.
The technician finally determined that internal unit vibrations caused a copper pipe to crack. While I understand that compressors cause vibration, a premium unit should be engineered to withstand its own internal movement. A structural pipe failure within four years points directly to a manufacturing defect, poor factory welds, or subpar quality control. Trane products are sold at a premium price, but the product quality does not match the cost. I am highly disappointed in the durability of this system and will not be purchasing another Trane product in the future.

Had a unit install in December 2024 the a/c unit is 4TTR, MFR Date September 2024. The unit worked fine until May 2026 that when I find out that the unit won't turn on. After calling several HVAC companies we found that there was a leak in the system. Upon doing further searching the HVAC company found that urine had caused a leak in one of the aluminum lines thus the warranty doesn't cover the part of which I wasn't aware of until I was told by the HVAC company. Why doesn't the unit have a sticker stating that pet urine will void the warranty and why doesn't the installer inform you of this when you purchase the unit. I now have to replace the entire unit for $5,000. Complete B.S. that should be a class action lawsuit against Trane and American Standard.

My brand-new unit has failed 4 times in 5 years (Coils, multiple sensors, and a cracked internal drain pan). This isn't just "bad luck"; it is a clear pattern of poor manufacturing and zero quality control. It is obvious that Trane failed to manage their production quality during the pandemic era, and now the customers are the ones paying the price for their lemons. What is worse is their complete lack of responsibility. When you call them, they hide behind their dealers. When the machine is clearly defective, they make it nearly impossible to get a corporate Rep to actually inspect the unit. They have the service history; they know this machine is a disaster. Yet, they choose to be irresponsible and leave the homeowner stranded with a "new" machine that requires annual repairs. Trane used to represent quality, but now they just represent overpriced junk and bureaucratic excuses. Unacceptable.

I’ve had so many problems with my Trane HVAC unit, I wouldn’t know where to begin. Let’s just say my hvac is 3 years old and before that I had a 1973 HVAC and never had a problem with it for the 15 years at my house. I was only replacing it because the furnace was from the 50s and getting a little unsafe however I will never understand how a part (like the compressor) fails yet you still have to pay the outrageous labor fee and I get it the hvac installer shouldn’t have to foot the bill however it should be like a vehicle with a warranty as you don’t have to pay the labor fees on something that should just work! I mean, at least 5-7 years right?

Back in December 2008, had to replace the original commercial York unit in the house. At that time, Trane had most efficient unit in the marketplace. Went with a 3 Ton Trane XL16i. After 17 years of trouble-free service went, it started to talking to us. The electrical consumption doubled due to the compressor and heat strips failing. Cost to repair was over $5000.00 so decided to replace it. Due to the rising electrical rates increasing due to the data centers being installed in our state, decided to go with their most energy efficient unit. Had 3 Ton 20 Seer Tru-Comfort unit installed by Stonemen HVAC who did an outstanding job.
I have been very impressed with heat output of the unit. (Example: Outside Temperature: 16F. HP1: unit was putting out 95F out of the vents. HP2: was putting out 103F. This is w/o the heat strips coming on) I will see what the summer reading will be. FYI: These units have inverters in them and inventers do not like electrical surges from your electric company. Highly recommend installing surge protection on your outside and inside units.

This is an update to a posting that is currently marked as under review. Roughly 1.5 years after moving into a new home the heat on a system stopped working and it turned out a coil had broken and leaked out all the refrigerant. The coil was replaced, but unfortunately the new coil also leaked and they had to bring another new one. This was pretty disappointing on a new system.
I contacted Trane directly hoping to hear that this was unusual and not representative of their product quality. When people did return my calls they were polite, but communication was inconsistent and I was passed between people without even acknowledgment that two failures is concerning. We were also never offered an extended warranty at the time of purchase, though that was their only suggested solution aside from saying "the good news it's working now." Then not so long after that was fixed another unit started having the same problem. In this case it turned out the compressor had failed. Note both of these repairs were meaningfully into 4 figures.
We would have thought maybe it was a bad installation job, but the leaking replacement coil was installed by a different, Trane-certified company. What we're starting to wonder is if Trane is one of those formerly high-end companies that in recent years cut back on their quality control anticipating continuing to sell at high-end prices for a decade+ based on their reputation?
