Trane unit cost $4,000 and is continuously breaking down. I bought this Trane home AC system 3 years ago. It stopped working last summer because the oil in the compressor was incorrect from the manufacturer based on the HVAC repair company I bought the unit from. They changed it out and it has worked this season until now. Out of nowhere the unit has frozen up and shut down. My last system was a Comfortmaker and lasted 28 years without any major breakdowns. Can someone tell me exactly what the problem is with TRANE equipment???

Purchased a 3 1/2 tn XR 13 heat pump 2-2014. Last week it stopped cooling. Contacted the installer. They found a leak where the coil was connected to the compressor. It was a failed solder connection. This repair cost $1200 mostly the cost of refrigerant R410a. Trane warranty excludes the cost of refrigerants. One disappointed consumer in South Carolina!

Put in new unit 2014. Took two weeks plus to make it run, never has run cold. In first year the compressor, evaporator coil, expansion valve, and circuit board replaced. Next year it stopped again. The tech. came out and "fixed" it again. Still not cold. 2016 broke again, evacuated Freon. Put in weighed charge. Replaced some parts and left, still not cold. 2017 stopped working. Original company quit working or selling Trane. Called four companies to fix it. All four said no longer will work on this system because of no Trane support plus Trane techs do not know XV20i heat pumps. NEVER BUY TRANE!!!

I purchased a "top of the line" XR 15 3 ton TRANE A/C in '09 at a cost of 4500.00 With a rebate from FPL for 495.00. I purchased a larger than needed, unit... so it didn't have to work as hard and because I didn't want to be doing this job again... in 4-5 years. COIL, being replaced today, 1100.00 dollars. Apparently, TRANE, are NO LONGER TOP OF THE LINE. LENNOX, have replaced them. SawGrass, who installed the unit don't do business with Trane anymore. Lots of companies have dropped them. Very sad. Astronomical costs, involved. Sorry, I never bought their products, to begin with. Maybe, I was lucky, reading the comments here... will not let anyone I know buy their products either.

I own a 2 ton central AC unit (XR-15). Within 4 1/2 years the AC coil sprung a leak. When I had the service fix it, the coil was covered but they didn't/don't pay for anyone to install the new part. To make matters worst, because of the leaky part, all the AC coolant leaked out, and that's not covered either. What a joke... I thought they were a great company. When I called to complain that agreed all the coolant leaked out due to the bad coil, but said they only cover the part, and the service and coolant is on me. Last time I buy a Trane!

I had a 4 ton Trane heat pump installed 2 seasons ago at my beach cottage. After only 2 seasons, my evaporator coil "rusted out" and caused a loss of freon. The part was under warranty so my repair bill was only $450. The grate which holds the fan motor has almost corroded to the point fan will not operate safely. When I complained, I was told I live in a high corrosion area which is the cause of my problem. The technician said he sees this problem frequently because the copper and aluminum is from China on the new models (my last unit operated in this same location for 11+ years). Trane needs to do better than this.

Trane will cover the parts but not the labor which is $800 to $1000 dollars. What a joke this system has been. Trane knew they had bad coils but yet they still are using them. Now I will be replacing the coils for the third time on a less than 4 year old system. Please do not buy a Trane system. I am so sorry I did.

Purchased machine in 2010, Trane XR 15. Have had nothing but problems for 7 years. The first day after putting it in the machine, it flooded my garage. This is the seventh year machine out of Freon. AC man says everyone is having problems with that machine. Trane sold the name and the unit, on the inside is actually a Ingersoll Rand, complete fraud. All the parts are Ingersoll and the inside unit is a Trane, that is so unbelievably wrong. Will never buy a Trane again.

I paid USD 5500 and had a brand new Trane HVAC installed in 09/2012. In Jan 01/2017, it stopped heating, my installer said the Coil was leaking, then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid 600 labor for a brand new coil replacement. Then last month in 06/2017, it stopped cooling again! The same installer found the coil leaking again! With 2 days, Freon dropped off to almost 0 level. Then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid USD 430 to replace another brand new coil.

I called Trane and reported this issue after the 2nd coil failure, surprisingly the customer service guy named Alex offered me $67 to "help" me pay the repair. I was amused!!! $67 to help pay the fix?! I felt kind of he was trying to close the case using a small quick amount of money to zip my mouth. Honestly speaking, I am a busy single mom, don't have interest and time to make money in this way. I never thought of the reimbursement until one of CS reps mentioned it. More important, I just wanted an explanation and apology, cause we stayed in FL's coldest winter time without heating for a week, and suffered another hot week in FL summer without cooling, within 5 months apart!!! This was really frustrating! More frustrating is because this unit is TRANE, a 5500 bucks durable product!

After the explanation with Alex, he doubled the reimbursement to USD 114, then I mentioned the first time coil failure, he doubled the amount again!!! I was totally confused again! I asked what's their reimbursement standard. He said they didn't even have it! So I requested to talk to his supervisor. The lady named Sylvia ** called me back a couple of days later, and blamed me I didn't do maintenance job before. I had another leaking fix for this AC unit in 2014, paid 75 bucks to repair it. It might make sense so I decided to took the responsibility for the first Coil Leaking failure in Jan 2017.

However she still couldn't explain the second coil failure, continued to blame me it's my fault. She did not apologize, instead denied this is a defective product and argued the product had no problem, even after she talked to my installer, who has 30 years AC experience and addressed the defect issue. The lady was rude, lacked CS skills. She refused to give me an apology from the beginning, really made me concerned TRANE's customer service. I requested her supervisor's contact, she argued she had not, the letter if I wrote, would come to her any way! If I didn't agree on the offer, she would withdraw the offer and close my case!!! What a threatening CS rep!!! Anyway, I had no choice and accepted their USD 217 offer, however I would not trust TRANE, claimed to be the most RELIABLE AMERICAN product any more!!!

On October 15, 2008 I purchased an XC95 Comfortlink II furnace and an XL 18i air conditioning unit for $11,270. I specifically purchased a Trane because of the success that I had with the previous two Trane units. The first unit lasted over 20 years and the second 18 years with very little maintenance beyond the bi-yearly inspections and care. However, the unit I purchased in 2008 and have attempted to maintain has been a disaster. Within 2-3 days following installation it was necessary to call the dealer, who installed it, for repairs. A faulty part was identified and replaced. That was the beginning of a long and miserable trail of repair after repair. I requested a replacement unit shortly after installment when the squirrel cage fan came loose on the shaft and made a horrible racket. By Nov 2, 2012 a folder of 22 work orders had been generated and Trane would still not budge on accepting there was a problem.

After about 5-6 years the problems decreased and now in the 8th year they have reignited. Last month alone, I spent >$750 on the air conditioning unit and $238 on the furnace. I have faithfully had professional maintenance on the units in the spring and the fall. I have recently spoken to two separate Trane representatives and their responses were the same of stating "they are sorry that I have had such a bad experience but thanked me for my allegiance to Trane in buying the 3rd unit". They also stated it was too late for anything to be done. I am writing this review to warn consumers of Trane's lack of concern for the consumer and the poor quality of their product.

I was warned by a friend of Trane's poor quality and lack of concern but because of my previous experience, I did not listen. My Trane dealer has been wonderful over the years but he is also very frustrated by the lack of support/concern that Trane has for consumers. If you choose not to heed this warning, I highly recommend you purchase the 10 year warranty.

4TEE3F XL15i system - First of all I would like to say my last Trane I purchased at my last house new was running like a champ for over 13 years when we sold house to build this one. This Trane was installed and inspected by Martin Heat and Air of Taylorsville Ky October 2011. After house went hot and seen line froze up downstairs I turned it off to thaw then called and got someone out to get it going 12 hours later. All they did was fill it and asked me if I filled out paperwork for the warranty. That's when I first heard about filling out the paperwork to get full warranty.

The man who came was from Graybeal from Shelbyville Ky just to get me going because Martins were busy for days. The man looked up my information for me and said that I didn't fill out warranty. He also said, "I bet it's the A coils." So after spending 250 on freon fill up I started looking into this warranty thing and then call Martins. First thing I did was look at the homeowner's information packet. What a joke and a scam and I'm so pissed right now and feel I've been **. The front of the envelope doesn't say anything about time sensitive warranty info inside. Doesn't mention anything about warranty period! It shows one little sentence about if you register within 60 days your warranty will be lengthened.

Then I called Martins and the owner Dwight was very nice and felt bad about the deal and sent someone out to check system and find out what was going on. A coil multiple leaks. They put a sealant into system free of charge and told me how Trane isn't like it used to be and the warranty deal is totally wrong. So basically to fix it is almost as much to just get a new unit. It won't be Trane. Chinese copper and Chinese aluminum junk and they don't care. I'm totally for a class action lawsuit.

My complaints seems to have fallen on deaf ears at the company who handle the installation and at Trane. Last year 2016 the main drain pan and fan motor was replaced. The parts were under warranty, but it cost $663.00 for labor. Now I'm told the evaporator coil which is under warranty is leaking and needs to be changed but labor and Freon will cost $1100.00. I regretted the day I spent thousands of dollars buying this piece of junk. Trane should not be allowed to sell these units until a drastic overhaul is done.

Great unit I must say in terms of home comfort. Bought in October 2015 and registered total unit online as required to receive full warranty. Thermostat went south in 18 months and Trane refused to cover it even though the thermostat carries a 5 year warranty. Why? Because the thermostat had to be registered separate from the entire unit. Am I the only idiot who did not know that the thermostat requires a separate registration from the rest of the unit. Btw. Trane required me to buy their thermostat.

I was never told by the Trane authorized installer of this requirement. To me, it is all part of the same unit. When I register a refrigerator, am I required to register the ice maker separately? $400 lesson learned. I am not normally a person who complains, but imo this is nuts. All I am trying to say is DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS I DID.

Tried contacting Trane over a week ago to find out if coil is still under 10 year warranty but no reply from Trane. Tech also says replacement coolant is no longer manufactured and that available replacement coil would require 2K$ worth of coolant. Available stock of coolant is hard to find and very expensive. Steer clear of this company. Apparently it is pretty easy to stop a Trane.

In 2010, I purchased a Trane XL 15i system for $8622. In 2014, my house was not cooling and it was discovered my copper coils were corroded with numerous pin holes and the unit was leaking Freon. The part was under warranty but the labor was $1100. The copper coils were replaced and at that time Trane paid me $650 towards the labor cost. I thought that would be the end of it. Currently in 2017, the copper coils corroded & leaked again. After several weeks of going back & forth with Trane's Escalation Dept., this time Trane offered me $520 for a labor cost of $1300. In addition they want me to sign a contract to release them of any & all responsibility from past and future copper coil leaks. They won't even give me any assurance this won't happen again.

I don't understand why the product has not been recalled or why there hasn't been a class action suit against Trane and Ingersoll Rand (the mfgr.). Something needs to be done. I cannot afford to pay out $800 every 3 years to keep my A/C unit running. No one should have to pay for a known defective part. I have had to pay out twice. I live in Phoenix and it's getting very hot. Is there anything I and others can do beside fill out a complaint? They should not be able to get away with this. Pls. help.

I figured after seeing all the negative reviews, I should comment about my experience with my Trane unit. We've had our Trane XR12 for 14 years and it runs easily 9-10 months out of the year here in FL. We've had to replace the fan, a capacitor (a few times), and get some other minor maintenance. The original compressor is still running strong. Overall, we've been very happy with it. We're just thinking about getting a new unit since it's almost 15 years old, and we don't want to be in a position where we NEED a new unit in the middle of the summer. The quality of the installation is just as important as the unit itself, so the unit failing could be the result of poor calculations (too big/too small). After reading these reviews, one would think Trane is terrible, and that's not the case - people who are happy just aren't motivated to come here and leave positive feedback.

After having over a hundred TRANE HVAC units installed by ZIRO and distributed by TERMO SERVIS, we had to replace all these rusted units (see attached photos) that were manufactured by Ingersoll Rand's Kolin, Czech Republic manufacturing facility. These TRANE units were examined by a court-appointed expert who concluded that the manufacturer Ingersoll Rand used inferior quality materials in the manufacturing process.

After only a total of less than 20 months of cooling activity, we had to replace completely over a hundred TRANE HVAC units due to corrosion. The most disappointing part of this entire process was that nobody from Ziro, Termo Servis, Trane nor Ingersoll Rand contacted us to find a solution to this serious problem. Even after receiving the report from the court-appointed expert, none of the above-mentioned companies (Ziro/Termo Servis/Trane/Ingersoll Rand) contacted us. Definitely zero quality and evidence that it doesn't take much to stop a TRANE.

Yet when my Trane system broke after 6 years I was told that my warranty was void on a technicality that I had no way of avoiding. I was informed I needed to transfer ownership of the system in their records to my name within 90 days of closing on my home. I had no way of knowing this. That is also beside the point. This is a loophole just to get Trane out of their warranty. Ownership being transferred should not and does not affect reliability or efficacy of their product. Yet when it breaks (as mine did) or reduces functionality they aren't responsible because of paperwork. Cars, electronics, homes, and other goods work where the warranty stands no matter the owner. This is bad business.

They didn't. 18 months with unit is when I started having problems. Blockage in drain, even with cleaning the drain as a maintenance process. Had to add refrigerant. Unit stopped cooling. Service Tech noted the EEV Board was faulty (a recalled part). Replaced EEV Board. Unit stopped working properly again. Would not cool and it would come on even when it shouldn't. Stopped cooling again. This time the coil had a leak. A small whole was found. In order for me to get it fixed I had to pay for the new coil. The unit was under warranty but I still had to pay the service contractor for the part. Plus pay for labor. I had the unit service more times than I should for it to be fairly new and a "Trane".

Expensive junk- deceptive customer service. We had a split system installed in our sunroom as part of a major home renovation project. The unit functioned erratically the whole time. We were told by the contractor that it was to be expected or maybe we were not using it right. Last December, 14 months later, the condenser died due to condensation turning it into a solid block of ice. We contacted a Trane certified repair company and found out our product has not been registered for the three year warranty, and the one year basic warranty had expired.

I contacted Trane, to explain that my husband and I were not at fault for this, and asked them to stand behind their product and help us out. I wasn't expecting a full replacement or even 100% part replacement, but at least 50%. Their response after almost two months of back and forth, providing all sorts of information and getting transferred to three tiers of customer service levels, was to offer us 15% off a new unit. $315 for a $2200 installation! So much for standing behind their products! I guess I should have checked this site first and noted the one star rating! The only reason I gave it two stars is because I believe three out of the four CS reps truly tried to help, but it came down to the Escalation Specialists who dropped the hammer on my hopes for a decent resolution.

They put out a bulletin explaining how to fix the problem after it breaks so they are fully aware of the issue but will not help defray the cost to the consumer. We will never own a TRANE/American Standard unit again and will tell everyone we can not to buy one as this is completely unethical and they should be embarrassed. In the 3 1/2 years I've had it I had 5 breakdowns costing me over $1,000 in service. My latest was Christmas Day 2016 with a houseful of out of town guest suffering through dinner in the heat. We purchased a new Trane A/C 16 months ago and have had a few small problems. Now our A/C has quit working due to a coolant leak. Paid $349 for a leak test only to find out the leak is in the evaporator coils in the air handler. The part is under warranty but labor to replace it will be $999. I spoke to a Trane representative thinking they should foot at least a portion of the bill because if their product worked correctly I would never be in this position. They adamantly refused to consider even paying anything, intimating that it was the environment or installation that caused the problem. We had our last air conditioner 15 years before having any service problems and have barely made it a year with this unit. This will be my last Trane purchase.

I had an XV20i heat pump installed with a Tam 8 air handler and the top of the line thermostat. This was a $12,000 purchase. The unit was installed two and a half years ago. I've had nothing but continual and still ongoing problems. My installing dealer went out of business so I've had to pay for labor during a time the labor should have been covered under warranty. To date I've paid $1,000 in labor charges since installation, not to mention the constant headaches with the unit being down. Trane did refund me approximately $280.00 in labor charges a few months back. However, when I was offered that amount I expressed my displeasure with the amount and was told "take it or leave it". When my dealer went out of business, I contacted Trane customer service asking what I should do and if there were any dealers in my area that knew how to work on these newer units. I was given a list of dealers (which I kept).

Every dealer I called on the list told me they didn't service my area. So I was on my own. I called a local Trane dealer out of the phone book. He was very honest and told me his company didn't service these type of units due to their complexity. He referred me to another dealer. I was told this dealer sells a lot of high-end equipment and they know what they’re doing. The dealer I was referred to has been to my house 4 times since April 2016, just as recent as 3 days ago.

As I'm writing this review my unit is down again. On their first service run I was told my outside unit need a software upgrade to 2.0 and a new personality module which I paid them to install. The unit ran fine during the summer, but now that it's cold problems have returned, and as I stated it is down again. This unit is clearly a LEMON. Since it obviously can't be repaired correctly, I want Trane to furnish me a new unit installed. I have a stack of work orders, which I previously submitted to Trane. Of course I have even more now.

Purchased the Trane furnace 6 years ago. This summer when I came in the house from outside my whole house was full of smoke. I ran around looking for the fire and found nothing. A month later last week exactly when it got cold I went to run my furnace and it didn't work. When I went down and opened the panel I could smell the same smoke I smelt that day and there was my circuit board all black and melted. When I called the company who installed it (Master's) they came out and said the board was under warranty but the labor was going to be $300. Sounds cheap. But NO ONE can tell me why it caught on fire. So I told Master's I wasn't going to pay them to put in another circuit board because it could have BURNED MY WHOLE HOUSE DOWN. Their response was "call Trane and let them deal with it."

So I called Trane and the first question they ask is did I have it professionally serviced every year. I replied no but had heater coils replaced under warranty after just 3 years. Now I sit here waiting on Trane to tell me what's up and where we go from here. But I already know their answer and I told them "don't even try and tell since I didn't have it serviced regularly it's my fault, because had you WARNED me that if I didn't have it professionally serviced IT MIGHT CATCH FIRE I would NEVER have bought it." So after just 6 years here I sit with no furnace and no resolution. Now every time I call Trane, they say "we're working on it and we'll call you back." They have no intention of fixing it.

So I called Master's back and said "go ahead and replace the board and I'll pay the $300 BUT IF THE FURNACE CATCHES FIRE and burns down my house I'm suing both Trane and you." The owner of Master's then says, "NO THANKS. WE'RE NOT EVEN INTERESTED IN COMING BACK TO SERVICE IT." I said, "Why are you worried it will catch fire?" I mean if it's safe what's the big deal? Both Trane and Master's heating and air are crooked and in this together to screw over the consumers knowing they GOT PROBLEMS they aren't telling their buyers about when the purchase is made. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER FURNACE MAKER AS both Trane and Master's could care less for our SAFETY and cares if we lose everything. Of course all they are going to say is THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. So I ask if you have had a circuit board melt or catch fire please let me know. I know I am not the only one with this SERIOUS problem.

We had the furnace repaired, everything was fine for 14 months, went to turn on the heat this year to find out no warm air, called the furnace guy to come out and he explained the main board had failed again. This was after spending 2 more hours on the phone with Trane tech support, we called Trane corporate only to find out the replacement board is only warranted for 12 months, and Trane tried to claim they don't warranty replacement parts, the 12 month warranty is from the dealer.

So, to cut an already long story short we now have to shell out another 1200 dollars to repair it again. I called Trane customer support and explained my situation, got a nice email response that said "SORRY, GOOD LUCK". It would have been far easier for Trane to do the right thing and either replace the clearly defective part or at a minimum offer a prorated reimbursement, but no they don't care! Do yourself a favor, don't buy a Trane furnace, they don't stand behind their products and if anything goes wrong the replacement parts only have a 12 month warranty from the dealer, Trane tried to argue with me that they don't warranty replacement parts. HIDING BEHIND THEIR DEALERS. So much to "Can't stop a Trane." Guess what? You can, and they don't care...

Again we called major heating and air and they came out the next day and said Freon leaked out because the solenoid caps were not on tight. Again they should have checked that when they came to hook up the wires. Then two weeks or so after that it froze up and quit working again.

The same technician came out and said that there was a recall on the expansion valve that they supposedly knew about for months. He said he would come out the next day. Little did I know that would be several days later. When they came to replace the valve they then said that the compressor had frozen up. So being that this unit is only 6 months old I am very disappointed in the level of service that I have received from Trane and the major heating and air technicians. We are sleeping again downstairs floor for last 3 weeks.

Thank God downstairs Tempstar AC unit still working next to Trane AC Unit for last 35 years without any issues. Now that is manufacture quality which I do not find in Trane Units that I have dealt in last seven years. I have to pay $160.00 for diagnosis. When I contacted Trane customer service at 1 800 945 5884 two weeks about their defective product and ask for replacement unit, I got around. They keep losing my supporting documents and I have to resubmit 4 times on email provided. Finally after two weeks, escalation specialist Jennifer ** contacted me to advise that company policy does not allow to replace unit and I have to spend my own money for labor cost. When I insisted then she offered me $500.00 maximum to repair unit.

Any reasonable homeowner expect that their big investment in brand new AC unit would last only two years. Other brand name like my Tempstar still working after 35 years. My conclusion is based on my experience that Trane Units are manufactured poorly and lack quality control. Please do not buy Trane AC products, unless you want nightmare dealing with repair cost, discomfort and hassle with their customer service. The company does not stand by with its products.

However for the last 5 days customer has been a nightmare to deal with. Ingersoll Rand the parent company should be totally mortified how customer care is with homeowners of their products. You can not get anywhere with the customer care line. It takes 10 calls to learn to ask for option 4 and you think your getting a customer service specialist. They are paying people to just give you the run around. It makes Ingersoll Rand look so stupid.

Each time I talked to customer service they say, "Talk to the dealer." Many others comments have had the same issue. Dah! That is the issue. You need someone above the dealer to answer a Trane/American Standard question. Customer service is who should know the answers or give me to someone that does. They told me today they don't know the answer.

This is my issue #1. Dealer said, "I think you should install a Air Handler." Mind you I had a perfectly good gas heater. He felt the electric heat might help my flooring issue. He said the load test showed a 4 ton unit. That is what he installed. Knowing that I had a 5 ton compressor outside. He said, "You don't need 5 tons."

Few years later brings we to last week. Dealer #2 says we have a problem. The 4 ton Air Handler is NOT compatible with the new 5 ton compressor - we want to install. He says we need to do a load test. It showed like 4.8 to 5 tons. He also said the side return air doesn't have a filter under the Air Handler like it should. As many upset customers like myself are asking who trains these dealers? On top of that if I can't call customer to answer my technical question how can the dealer get a correct answer. I'm sitting here after crying and wanting to pull my hair with NO answers. Sitting with no downstairs air condition in the deep south with 90 degrees outside. Will I buy Trane again? Not likely.

I tried giving customer service all the information on the Air Handler and the Compressor to see if when it was installed if it was even compatible. No one at Trane can answer. How does one find out? I can assure you they can't answer you but they would answer you if the warranty was voided because of this. I called 4 times today alone.

I've had good success with Trane in the past so I purchased two 30 ton chillers for Orfila Vineyards in October of 2012. I bought two just in case one went down so I would have duplicity. It's good that I did get two because they are always breaking and at least I have one (usually) chilling our buildings and tanks. I spent over $60k on the new chillers by the time they were installed and started. I have spent over $20k in 4 years just to keep them running. Both computers were replaced, every sensor has been replaced at least once and some twice. They even said to my Mechanical guy when one sensor failed for the third time, "Oh they should have never sold you that type of sensor for this application."

It's their own company that sold us the part! We get a different Tech every time and when they come out, they all have a different take, excuse, or whatever about what's going wrong or why their hardware is failing. I don't think they even know what is really happening. I've several times seen them go through all the diagnostics and then they finally realize it's an open system. My mechanical guy told one of the managers here in San Diego that he would be hard pressed to recommend a Trane to his other customers because all the issues we've had and they said, "It doesn't matter; we don't need you." I get that they are big but with a budding beer and wine industry in San Diego you'd think they would take more pride or responsibility for their product. I'll probably buy a third chiller from someone else so that I can have even more of safety net for when the Trane chillers fail again.

Trane and their independent distributors are scamming the public. Trane did produce good reliable products for many years, however they are no longer dependable nor do they have any warranty, regardless of what is stated in the product literature. They will state that they will warranty the parts for 5-10 or more years but here's the catch. The Trane website states that they only supply equipment to dealers that undergo specific Trane installation and product training and the dealer must be “Trane certified” in order to sell and install their equipment. This is assumed to ensure that the Trane distributor/installer is properly trained and keep their "Trane comfort specialist" certification.

Once the equipment is installed it will typically fail soon after. You will attempt to call Trane but they will tell you to contact the installer or one of their dealers as they don't talk to the public. The distributor will most likely come to look at the problem and tell you there is a problem with the equipment and tell you to contact Trane for their part's warranty. Again Trane will tell you to contact the installer/dealer. Eventually the installer will tell you they have to charge you to repair the part which means there is no real warranty. If you are very persistent you may get to talk to a Trane representative and they may send someone out to look at the equipment and tell you it is an improper installation issue and there is nothing wrong with the equipment. The installing company will say it's the equipment and you will be stuck having to pay for the repair yourself.

You do not have to take my word for this, rather you can call five air conditioning companies and ask if they will sell and install Trane equipment. Nine out of ten will tell you they don't deal with Trane. Please note: Trane does not train anyone. They just state that they do and that only "Trane comfort specialists" are permitted to install their equipment. For you to fully understand the scam you need to talk to some trustworthy installation companies and ask the owner why they do not sell Trane equipment. If you find one that does sell Trane equipment ask them if they are Trane certified experts and they will say yes. Then once it is installed you will be in the endless loop and find out how the scam really works... and it works very well. Just wanted to share this as many people as possible so the scam is revealed and the public is aware.

My issue started on November 18, 2015. I have had a non-functional heat pump for over 8 months now. Initially bought a new High Efficiency Furnace and Heat Pump from Gary at Southwest Heating. Very satisfied with install and workmanship. I did find out a work permit was not pulled, not sure if they are required in Elbert county, but most HVAC contractors will pull a permit regardless to cover their butts. Everything worked fine for a year and a half. Then we had a snow storm along with a power surge and my Heat Pump quit working.

Called Southwest for service and they sent a guy who told me the disconnect was bad so it was replaced. Once I found out it was more than the disconnect I called Southwest again and another tech came out. Told me my Heat Pump compressor was bad. He said he would start paperwork for warranty since the unit was 1-1/2 years old and still under Trane's warranty for 10 years. Paid for my service call and 3 weeks went by and no word. I called Southwest and lady answering did not know a thing and would get back with me... Really. She did get back and said she was sending out Mike the owner to give me a quote. Mike came and did not know thing, he asked if his company installed it, or he pretended not to know a thing. Anyways, he called his tech and confirmed with him the compressor was bad. What does Mike the owner do, he quotes me $8000 for a new compressor unit and does not want to talk warranty.

He tried calling the Trane Rep and said he had wrong number and would get back to me. One day went by no word, I call the office and talked with lady answering phones and she said I just missed him and he would call me in the morning. Never heard back from Mike the owner. Called another Trane authorized dealer (Parker Heating & Cooling) and had their techs come out. They spent hour and half diagnosing the Heat Pump and told me the compressor was fine, it is a circuit board. Cost of circuit board is $383, upon installation it was not the circuit board. The owner of that company did not want to talk about my 10 year Trane warranty and he quoted me $3000 just for the compressor and $4900 for the whole Heat Pump unit.

This owner flat out said that doing warranty work does not benefit his company's bottom line and could care less about the warranty. "Give me your credit card over the phone I will order and have it installed within a week." I said "no thank you." I contact Trane consumer affairs submitting a ticket. I was contact by a representative 3 weeks later and was told he had contact both companies I have been dealing with. SouthWest Heating is sticking to their lie that it was hit by lightning so it will not be covered by warranty. Parker Heating told the Trane rep they would provide a labor estimate and file the warranty paperwork. A week has gone by and no response from Trane.

There are wild fires in Colorado causing smoke and I am asthmatic and would really like to close my house up and run the AC, but I cannot, so there is a health issue now as well. It appears that Trane has done something around how they deal with warranty work with their Authorized Dealers which does not benefit the Trane Dealer. This approach puts the consumer in the middle taking the brunt of issues. Even though you have a 10 year warranty it not worth anything. Wish I would have not bought Trane, they used to be a good company along with product.

Since then, every major component has been replaced under the bogus "10 year parts warranty" whereby the customer pays for all labor and all shipping of parts! My air conditioning season is 4 months, Mid May to Mid September. Since installation the air handler coil has been replaced due to poorest quality copper that American Standard could possibly obtain and use in their products that are manufactured in Mexico. The compressor has been replaced. This system has never started up at the beginning of the season. It has required 2 or 3 refrigerant recharges every season. This bogus warranty has cost me approximately $5000 in service calls, system recharges, parts shipping costs, etc.

In 5 years this system has not ever operated properly for more than 5 or 6 weeks. Replacing the compressor has taken 6 weeks just to find one as it is now deemed "obsolete". Service person came in and pulled the expansion valve and it was plugged with trash. Installed a filter drier and is still not cooling. This is the biggest POS I have ever owned in my life. Warranty is about to run out and I have had it. Labor and freon cost are killing me.

Trane has no parts to repair the unit. They will not replace the unit nor will they remove the parts needed for our unit from one sitting in inventory. Now 8 years later I want to replace the unit, but not confident that others are much better. Very frustrating and time consuming. Thankfully I am retired!

We purchased a Trane XL18i high-efficiency heat pump back in the fall. We have had many issues with the unit since installation. It was initially not installed correctly and continues to not work properly. We thought Trane was a good product, but we are seriously questioning this. Now that the season has changed and we are using A/C for the first time, it does not work correctly. We spent thousands of dollars and NO ONE seems to be able to rectify the issues. We have been given our 3rd thermostat (I don't think there's anything wrong with the thermostats), and I'm really not so sure that there isn't a much bigger issue with the installation or unit itself.

We believe at this point that the entire installation needs to be checked, including all wiring that was done with it to find the problem and resolve it once and for all. The Trane dealer we used is useless, so we called the Trane 1-800 number and requested a field service rep be sent out. They refused and said that they didn't care about the issue, talk to the dealer. They really don't stand behind their product! We are obviously not alone with this experience, so couldn't we all band together for a class action lawsuit? Any attorney's reading this or does anyone know an attorney who would take this on? I am on board with this. We would love a refund at this point and have them take all the equipment back so we can go with another company. Wishful thinking.

The issue: I bought Trane AC for my residence in 2013 (model 4TTB3036E1000AA). Just over 2 week ago, the air-conditioning became in effective so I called the installer, but I was told the installer had moved his shop out of Toronto. So, I contacted the Trane agent here in Mississauga, by the name of Comfort Air to come & have a look at the unit as it was still under the 5 year’s warranty. Contrary to their name they have caused me a lot of discomfort. The gentleman came & after checking told me that the Compressor had packed up. After a couple of days of back and forth on the model #, which they claimed initially, they couldn’t locate in their records (The model # etc. was noted by no other than their own rep, in fact he took picture of it & so did I, for my record).

Finally, after wasting another couple of days, they booked order for the replacement compressor under warranty. They took my credit card #, took written confirmation on the order from me, made me sign a clause that if I cancel the order they will charge me $800+HST for cancellation. Told me that the compressor installation work as per their technician will take 3-4 hour’s labour at $99/hr. +HST, Gas refill will be $60/lb and it will require about 3-4lbs. So that adds up to approximately $640 +HST (about $750 charge to the customer) even though it is under warranty? Although I thought it was very high charges, but since I was in such a helpless situation, I had to agree with it.

The sequence of events after the time the order was placed have been pathetic to say the least. We have been sweating throughout this period, having sleepless nights for over 2 weeks because of the heat, but apparently it is none of Trane & their agents' concern. I guess I’m to be blamed for choosing Trane & that is exactly what my family is saying to me now. The entire family is disturbed.

The sequence of events thereafter: After order placement on June 8, they confirmed that they do not have the part in stock, so it will be shipped from US & that it will take 5-10 working days. I was then told on my asking that they normally write 5-10 days as worse case but it normally comes within 5 working days. So, it was to arrive on or before last Wednesday, 15th June 2016. Unfortunately, it didn’t arrive on the date given to us. I wrote to them to inquire about the status, the same day & got a response back saying the unit will arrive on Friday, 17th June if not held up in Customs. Friday came & went but the compressor didn’t arrive.

I called up Comfort Air to check again Friday afternoon, giving them reference to their own letter two days ago. The lady (Carol) told me that it hadn’t arrived & that I should check on Monday. I asked them to give me a firm date that the unit will come & be installed as heat was really picking up & it was become unbearable for us. She said she cannot confirm. Later her Manager/Owner came online & said same thing in rather rude tone. When I protested on their whole attitude, he told me to go to some other agent. I'm stuck in an awkward situation, please advise & help me resolve the issue. Terrible, terrible experience.

The coil failed after the first 14 month in 2013, which I was told was an $1800 job had it not been covered by 2 yr labor warranty (thank God for me). The past 2 years I have had to have it serviced for AC failure twice! Each time it was for a different reason, but both resulting in leakage of Freon. The first year it was from a loosened Schroeder. This past repair was from for a leak at txv, a7# Freon leak!

I have a great local company who worked with me on labor charges and recommended I contact TRANE for potential replacement. Their customer escalation department is a JOKE. I requested for them to replace my unit as there has been a problem each year and a major component failure with the coil. They basically said, "sorry for the inconvenience but we can't do anything except pay half of your last charge" (which totaled $274 of $550). It would have been closer to $800 as the labor was 3 1/2 hours but my HVAC company only charged an hour. Sheena **, the escalation rep did nothing but drag her feet for 2 months and offered me real compensation that I deserve.

I honestly think I got a lemon or their product just has deteriorated so bad that they can't even stand behind it anymore. I built my house and had an XL16i installed in 2005. Within 6 months there was a recall and the installer came out and swapped out both the exchanger and the compressor (virtually changed everything out except the copper and control lines). Since that time the high and low compressors have been replaced (at different times) three times up until the 10 year "compressor" warranty period expired. Since there is no coverage for freon or labor, I ate the costs every time and could probably have saved a reasonable amount toward the purchase of a reputable and reliable unit by now. So... two months (2016) out of the 10 year warranty the low-level compressor has once again failed.

My service company was kind enough to wire past the defective compressor and now the unit is running on the high level compressor only. It is simply a matter of time before the remaining stage fails. I spoke at length with the Service Techs and both stated this has been a known, ongoing issue with this unit (in the HVAC community they replace these compressors on a regular basis!) and Trane simply ignores its existence... They (Trane) have a stockpile of compressors known to fail, a system (i.e. XL16i) with these ongoing, inherent problems which they refuse to address, and customers are simply stuck with their lemons! As questioned the dealer he had argued everything is correct. Just give it time it will work. Anyway as I wait for this system to work. In January I call because again no heat in heat pump mode. He had sent a tech in. His own tech had told me my system is wrong. That his boss had installed a 5tn blower under a 4tn coil. Making it that the 5tn of air across the coil is cooling the system down not allowing it to heat up correctly. So I called Trane, file a complaint.

The representative showed me documents that my system is not correct. His data showed that my 16 seer system is rated at a 14.5 seer. So you would think they would make their authorized dealer fix it right? WRONG! On March 1 Yeakles had called me confessing he had in fact installed the incorrect stuff. Great right. No, because within 5 short days Yeakles' mind has changed. Even though there is documented proof. He had messed up. Yeakles is now refusing to fix it. What! Oh yeah and Trane has told me they have done all they could do. What! I thought Yeakles was your authorized dealer? Make him fix it! To my point, maybe you can't trust a Trane dealer.

Had to spend the night next to a space heater trying to stay warm. Not a pretty picture when you are in your 70's.

In fact, their supervisors sad they would always be sure to send out one of their top technicians to ensure it was done properly since we had so many problems.

After this last igniter failure I went directly to Trane to deal with them directly rather than their dealer. I exchanged several e-mails with their Consumer Relations Supervisor regarding the problems and history. On January 25 she asked me for additional information. I was in the process of taking my daughter to school, the Duchesne Academy in the Memorial area, when we came upon a stalled vehicle in the right lane on the US 290 eastbound main lanes. As usual, the drivers in the adjacent middle lane took turns allowing vehicles from the blocked right lane to merge in. When it came our turn to shift over, the next vehicle intentionally speeded up to block our vehicle from merging in. When it became evident that our vehicle had already moved over before the van could cut us off, the vehicle behind us swerved into the left lane, accelerated past us, got in front of us and slammed on his brakes. For the next two miles the Trane driver continued to slam on his brakes, attempting to cause an accident.

Although my daughter and I were not able to get the license plate for the vehicle, we did get the company name plastered all over the vehicle - Trane HVAC Services - Hunton Distribution, Unit 210. In having dealt with Trane personnel elsewhere in the country, I was always impressed with their courteous attitude and professionalism. Needless to say, my family and I are disappointed with the irrational and antagonistic Trane staff we've encountered in Houston to date. All report fine but the thing still has issues in that it runs sporadically. Paid Fred's $135 to tell me they don't know what the problem is because everything checks out.

Supposedly their $99 initial trip/diagnostic fee covers for 30 days if they need to come back. Two days later and with 53 degree house, they say they spoke with Trane and said to try another pressure switch although doubts that is the problem, and or replace the board to the tune of around $800.00 installed, even though the board checks fine too. Really? Already paid this company to say don't know what is wrong and fixed nothing. Now they want to charge more labor to fix something that they don't know if even is the problem? And of course we find out the original part is not under warranty, but must have had issues because it is obsolete and has been changed a time or two since.

2 years ago, I decided to "upgrade" my aging heat pump to a brand new Trane unit because my old pump was approaching 30 years old and I didn't want it to break down (I like my home to be 69 degrees in the summer and in the low 60's in the winter). I purchased my heat pump thru a "big box" retailer, and had it installed by their contractor.

I've had the contractor that installed it out 4 or 5 times now to "adjust the Freon levels" (because the a/c ran continuously and never reached 69 degrees unless the outside temperatures were in the low 70's). Finally, I just gave up calling the contractor since they were getting annoyed with me calling in so many service requests (all performed at no cost to me). I convinced myself that because of the newer refrigerants used, that my heat pump just didn't perform as well as the old one.

Well, I should have kept calling them back out, because a week ago the outside temperatures dropped to the high 40's and my sunny So. Cal. condo actually got chilly enough for me to turn on the "heat" (I almost never have to turn on the heat in my home because it rarely gets chilly enough, I prefer to wear warm comfortable clothing and use electric blankets). Well, the "heat" never really warmed up my place, even after running it for several hours (I've got the electric bill to prove it!). Long story short, I had the installer come back out to test it, and was informed that the outdoor heat pump unit had failed, and was still covered under warranty, but is going to cost me over $800 in labor to replace it (I wish I made $800 for a day's work!).

So, I decided to check Trane's website to read the warranty, which is where I learned that they REQUIRE all new purchasers to REGISTER THE WARRANTY WITHIN 60 DAYS OF PURCHASE (something the dealer and the store failed to inform me of, and which is something I rarely ever do, because I figure the companies just want our info for marketing purposes). So, instead of a 12 year warranty on this piece of JUNK, I now apparently only have 5 years of coverage for. So, I'm going to be out over $800, and I'm assuming only have 2.5 more years of warranty coverage (my understanding is that the warranty starts from the date of purchase, and doesn't reset the time limit on replacement units).

BOTTOM LINE, I feel DUPED! I've heard their commercials for many years about how "hard it is to stop a trane", I say BS! After reading several other reviews on this site, I've come to the understanding that it's very easy to stop a trane, and unless they reach out to me and somehow cover the labor costs (I sincerely doubt it, from reading other reviews), I WON'T EVER BUY ANOTHER TRANE HVAC UNIT! Funny thing is, I'm about to construct a new home, and will be purchasing two new heat pumps, and again, unless the company reaches out to me and "makes this right", I'm buying a different brand. I feel scammed.

Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. It's obviously "Hard To START A Trane".

So today we find out that Trane is not going to honor their 10 year warranty on a leaky A-coil on our unit because they said we never registered the unit when we purchased it. We were never aware that we had to register the warranty. The person who sold us the unit never said and we simply didn't know. When you are in the process of building a house and have a million and one things on your mind and to do, something is bound to happen and things might get missed. So we didn't register our unit, but Trane knows we bought a Trane under good faith, but now will not honor their warranty. We have only been in our new home for 6 years and this happens?

When we bought a Trane, we thought we were buying a really great product backed by an even greater warranty. Well not so much. We can prove we bought the unit but Trane will not honor because we didn't register the warranty. I'm sick to my stomach right now at Christmas time that we have to shell out 1,200.00 dollars to fix a leaking A-Coil. I SIMPLY CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY TRANE WILL NOT HOLD UP THE WARRANTY BECAUSE A COUPLE PIECES OF PAPER didn't get filled out. I will promise TRANE this, I will post on Facebook about them, I will get the word out to anyone who is building to be wise, very wise. But what gets me the most is how in less than 6 years our unit is broken. I guess Trane isn't really the best unit out there anymore!!!

We bought 1.5 year ago new AC system from "Trane" because the high quality standard (we had in mind). A month ago, after the one year warranty, the air handler started to leak and after consulting the dealer they ordered a new water pan and they did the installation of that pan. But to install a new pan the coil has to taken out. I was watching this all on the side, but when they took out the coil I saw a damaged coil and stopped them from finishing and took pictures of the damage. The dealer finished the job, I paid him.

I filed a complaint against Trane. First I found it unfair to let me pay for that renewing of that pan and second about the damage on the coil. They agree to pay for the repair but the damage on the coil they waved that away. I then filed a complaint through the BBB and the answer of Ms. Erin ** (Consumer Relations Supervisor) was, "There is no damage to your coil that is not cosmetic. The functionality, life expectancy, and efficiency will not be negatively affected by the bent spine fins on your evaporator coil".

"The equipment passed inspection because there is no mechanical damage to the equipment!" I would like to say to Ms. **, "You should be a great car sales women, you will sell me a car with substantial damage and you use the sentence from above. Functionality, life expectancy and efficiency will not be negatively affect your car." Also, sometimes when a product has a dent or a cosmetic damage, the factory or the dealer will give you a discount because of the damage. The worse of this case is that the coil with the damage passed quality control. So there are probably many of those coils in most of your air handlers. We now talk about the "high" standard quality Trane will allow us to believe.

I already suggested to Ms. ** that if she allows this type of damage on their outside condensers (where you can see the coil), I explained to her that this quality of a condenser would never sell. I'm seeking now for, first, a apologize for the way they allow to pass coils with substantial damage and just put them in your air handlers, is just wrong. Secondly, because I expected a brand new, not damaged air handler, a discount on the unit or replacement is in order. Because of all this aggravation and the time I have put into this that discount will be at least 50%. If needed I can add the pictures.

I purchased a 1-1/2 ton and a 5 ton Trane model 4ttR HVAC condenser and air handler, in November 2011 for my 2-zone Florida home. The units have functioned free of significant problems until about 2 weeks ago (Nov 2015) when the smaller unit burned out the fan motor, and then a week later when the compressor in the 5 ton unit suffered a leak. Both parts were replaced under the manufacturer 10-year parts warranty -- but watch out, because the light you see at the end of the tunnel is another train -- being the labor costs which exceeded $1,000 combined. This is an out-of-pocket expense not covered by the parts warranty.

Though I am grateful for the parts warranty, having to spend this much on labor costs to repair 2 separate units that are only 4 years old, is simply not something I would have expected from a product advertised to be built like a train. I paid almost $9,000 for the new units before applying the state energy rebates, and for this price I think I had a right to expect they would operate, free of major malfunction for at least 5 - 7 years before needing major parts replacements. At this rate, I am very concerned that the units won't ever make it to 10 years before they completely fall apart. These Trane units replaced an older model (different manufacturer) that lasted about 16 years. When the time comes to replace it, you can be sure I won't be riding with this Trane again.

P.S. -- I asked my installer if they could contact Trane on my behalf for some dispensation, and they politely said they would never get anywhere with that since they are a dealer; instead they suggested that I, as the end-user/consumer contact Trane directly to see if they might assist with some of the labor costs -- after all, mine was not an "isolated" instance of one bad unit, but rather two units suffering major parts failures within a couple of weeks of each other; however after reading reviews of other folks who had contacted Trane, it seemed very much like it would be a waste of my time, particularly in view of the reaction I got from my dealer, so I chose to just "suck it up." But neither will I be a repeat buyer when the time comes. "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

In late 2009 I purchased a Trane XR 15 high efficiency heat pump with air handler and evaporator coil. By July 2012 the unit was malfunctioning. The Trane installer technician came out and I was told the evaporator coil was low on refrigerant. There was a refrigerant leak somewhere. Refrigerant was added and four units of dye were added. That service cost me $230. The technician said he would come out in a week to check it. After a few weeks I inquired with the installer company as to why the technician had not come back. I was told by the receptionist that I lived a long way away (50 miles) and when someone got in my area they would check for the leak. Nobody came.

In October 2013 the unit iced up so their technician finally showed up. We knew the unit leaked so obviously it was low on refrigerant again. He checked the evaporator coil and saw dye on several places on the coil. He said the evaporator coil had to be replaced. The coil was under warranty. The mechanic came out a few days later to replace it. The original unit had a copper coil but the replacement coil they put in was aluminum. It cost me $568 dollars for refrigerant, labor, and travel charges. I did not think the heat pump was as efficient as it was with the first coil.

By June 2015 the unit iced up again. There was still some dye in the system from the last leak test. The Trane technician observed that the new evaporator coil was leaking from 8 different places. He said that Trane was not like they used to be. He indicated that he was having similar problems with other customers. I believe he said the parts were now coming out of China. He said that their installation company was considering installing for someone other than Trane.

He told me that I should tell Trane to reimburse me for the expenses to replace that second coil. The coil had lasted only about 20 months. It may have even been leaking from the date of installation. A couple of days later a team came out and replaced the evaporator coil. They replaced the aluminum second coil with a third copper coil. I also noticed that the coil was dripping water when they brought it in the house. I will address that later. The bill for the refrigerant, labor, and travel was $661.

That charge is what I wanted to get reimbursed from Trane. I was given a number to contact so I contacted them. After getting past the customer service gatekeeper I got what they call their escalation department. They wanted the invoices. A month later they wanted all the service records ever done. Days later they said that they submitted everything to whatever department resolves these things. I soon got a call and I was told my claim was denied because I provided no record that the unit had been serviced between the time of the first coil failure and the second coil failure (20 months).

I let the woman know that in those 20 months the evaporator coil would not get dirty so the coil did not need service. In fact, both of the indoor evaporator coils that were taken out were not dirty. She was inflexible. I told her my installer did not want to come out the 50 miles to clean coils that were not dirty. She said I could use any company. However, I thought if I did not use a Trane certified technician it would void the warranty. Besides, people around here don't like serving units installed by someone else and are a different product than the units that they install. There are no certified Trane installers closer.

I then mentioned that the original coil was made out of copper coil and when they replaced it they put in an aluminum coil. She indicated that she believed that all of Trane coils were now make of aluminum. I said that was strange, because the coil they just put in the unit was copper again. Then I put 2 and 2 together. The coil they put in was copper but they were not making copper coils anymore and water was dripping out of the coil from the inside of the coil. Bingo! Apparently they replaced the second failed coil with a used coil. I asked her if they were placing these leaking defective coils with used coils? She thought that should not happen but it seems to me that this is exactly what did happen.

Even so, there was no changing her mind about reimbursing me. Just because Trane manufactures inferior coils and replaces them with used coils apparently carries no weight with Trane representatives. And I certainly do not have any reason to believe that the used coil they just put in will last and longer than the last two. This could go on until their warranty expires and then I would have to pay for the coil as well as the service charges. And folks, we are not even talking about what might go wrong with the rest of the system. Needless to say I will not every purchase a Trane heat pump again and I will certainly discourage others from doing so.

We have mold from no dehumidifier because unit broken. I live in Oklahoma. It's July 31 2015. Trane made claim for review about problem. Customer service 800 number literally told me to pay someone to fix. Then I mentioned 2nd opinion. Wanted to know if they touched the unit. That diagnostic examination would void warranty. I quoted exact wording of contract. Repairs made by anyone but servicer will void warranty. Original service provider now wants us to pay upfront then get reimbursed from Trane. Now Extended Warranty not honored. Claim coil never covered. In booklet from Trane states will replace coil if recalled. No labor $$ provided. Either way extended warranty states that parts, labor, are included for internal parts. The coil is an internal part, written on original warranty document.

Customer service is really loss prevention. The claim filed by Trane about mold has become review over claim of coil replacement coverage. So the unit is crap. They know it's crap. Plus extended warranties are subjective, Trane might decide no existence. We are documenting experience, reporting to attorney General, insurance commission, state licensing department. I am actively seeking a Florida class action attorney to represent me and thousands of other Florida consumers. Here is the background: In Feb. 2013, I was quoted $6185 for a new TRANE XL Hyperion 16 SEER 3 ton heat pump system for my condo in Gainesville, FL. This included a 10-year limited parts warranty supplied via the TRANE corporation, which was why I selected their equipment. The local utility company supplied a generous rebate as well, so my final purchase price was $5085 out of pocket. There were lots of forms and even air flow tests to be performed for energy efficiency, and a city building permit, too.

Unbeknownst to me, this 10-year limited warranty coverage required ONLINE REGISTRATION WITHIN 60 DAYS, or became invalid, and was reduced by 50% to a mere 5-year base warranty. The online registration had to be done via a TRANE company website. However, I was not told to register the serial numbers, or I would lose my warranty coverage. But, the dealer, who would be clearly advantaged by this reduced coverage, knew about it for certain, as the policy started 4 years prior in 2009.

My AC system is now 2 years old and I learned quite by accident, that I had lost my warranty coverage because it was not registered online before Day 61 on the TRANE website. I then contacted the dealer by phone and email and filed a request with TRANE to get my original 10-year limited warranty (which I paid for) re-instated. After two weeks of email, calls and postings on Facebook with the TRANE Corporation, I was finally told this week by phone by Cierra **, Trane Escalations Supervisor, that Trane "respectfully decline[s] participation to change your warranty terms to 10 yrs. On behalf of Trane Inc. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate the time you took to make us aware of your concerns." Thus my 10-year limited warranty is now invalid and I am left with only 5 years.

I believe that this is "warranty fraud" and may also violate the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (DUTPA), and likely constitutes bad faith on the part of Trane, and the installing dealer, who should have registered the serial numbers on the day of the install, just as a LEXUS dealer would register your VIN with LEXUS when they sell you a car.

Please note that this required 60-day online registration policy is an advantage to ANY UNSCRUPULOUS HVAC dealer, and a huge DISADVANTAGE to most consumers, including the blind, handicapped, mentally challenged, poor people with limited or no Internet access, out of town property owners, etc. I am appalled at TRANE's response to this sincere and genuine effort on my part to restore my original 10-year warranty coverage. I believe that it is possible that HUNDREDS of consumers fall victim to this "disappearing warranty coverage policy," but I am only asking for your help to restore my original warranty. However, it is worth noting that TRANE could solve this problem tomorrow by REQUIRING that ALL FLORIDA DEALERS register the serial numbers of their system on the date of installation.

Meanwhile, I believe the damages in the loss of 5 years of warranty coverage is about $3000, if not more. I have contacted an HVAC warranty services company to find out the actual cost to restore similar warranty coverage. I doubt that any other local dealer will issue extended warranty coverage on my system, as it is now 2 years 4 months old. ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE IS APPRECIATED. I HAVE LOTS OF DOCUMENTATION I CAN SHARE, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL SALES QUOTE, INVOICE, AND MANY EMAIL TO TRANE AND LIBERTY AIR.

After about one month, I finally received a resolution after submitting request documentation. Trane rejected my request. I am not a fan of Trane because the life expectancy does not meet the company's motto - It's hard to beat a TRANE and Nothing stops a TRANE; (unless it's a leaking coil). In addition, the company's customer service process SUCKS!!! Every week for about a month, we contacted them and they indicated that "someone will get back with you by Friday" and "your case was sent to escalation for review and decision". Will not recommend or purchase another Trane!!!

After our Trane heat pump that we had for 15 years went out, we had another complete Trane system installed. After 3 weeks when it was in the mid 90's the AC went out. We got a hold on the company that installed it and they came out, checked everything and said that it has a stuck valve. They would have to order one, which would take 3 weeks to get because they are on back order. I said BS! Told them get a whole new system and take the valve out of it and replace ours with it which would only take a day to get. After that it worked great again. That is until 3 more weeks went by, then it did it again.

They will be out today to look at it, but he said it probably is the same thing as before. The tech said that they are having this same problem with several other Tranes systems they installed. He also said that Trane has known about the problem for quite a while and has done nothing to really fix the problem. I and the company that installed our system are talking about completely removing the system and installing a complete different system from a different manufacturer.

I purchased a home in September 2012 and learned that the A/C unit was not working (found out on the day I closed). I advised seller that I would not move forward with purchase if I had to replace a major appliance like an A/C unit. Seller agreed to replace and I agreed to replace furnace portion of package to avoid a greater cost should the furnace not work. I started noticing the A/C heating up at certain parts of the day and thought I needed to readjust thermostat.

After several days of increasing temperatures during the day I decided to call a service technician only to learn that I had no refrigerant in my system. Further investigation showed a leak in the coil. I called the company who installed and they said the part was no longer under warranty and that the warranty was only for 1 year. I decided to call the service technician back and advised him what the installing company said and he advised me that the part that is not working is under warranty and that Trane is aware of the defect with the type coils they use. So the part was definitely under warranty.

It turns out that the Tech was correct and Trane provided the coil at no charge, however, I was stuck with a $575.00 labor charge for a unit that is only 2 years, 10 months old. While I am pleased with the work that the Tech did on the unit and how quickly he came to repair and how thoroughly he cleaned up the area after he completed the work, I immediately changed my servicing company.

If Trane is aware of this defect, why are they allowed to keep selling a piece of equipment (part) that is obviously defective when they know it is going to fail? While they do not make money off selling the part it still costs consumers "labor cost" - in my case, $575.00. My "dissatisfied rating" is because Trane knowingly sells this defective merchandise that would cost consumers huge labor costs in such a short time. How can they do this?

I have requested a replacement unit under warranty and Trane refuses to do anything about it. The tech keep coming out weekly to put 6-7 lbs of freon in it and it continues to leak and it is so bad with oil on the pad they cannot find the leak in the coil. Less than one year ago for $9200.00 we purchased from and had Lowe's of Jonesboro, AR. Install a complete new Trane xv95 air conditioning/heating unit. It has already stopped working. I called their service department and they sent out a Mohr repairman from Wynne, AR. He cleaned the coils on the outside unit and told us that it was just dirty and needed to be cleaned, charged us $172.00 and told us that it was regular maintenance and therefore not covered by warranty.

He told us we should have been regularly cleaning the coils---which no one told us about until now. He told us it would take awhile for the unit to cool the house down, packed up his tools, and left. That was just yesterday. Today we are still having the same problem. We have the thermostat set on the usual 77 but it has gone up again to 82 and stays there with the unit running steadily but not getting any cooler. I have called them again and they may be able to come out tomorrow (heat in the high 90's). I will never buy another Trane product and will certainly never make another purchase from Lowe's!!!

This work was subcontracted by Lowe’s using a local Heating&Air company (H&A). (I don't know if allowed to say their names). The work was done 6 Jan 2014 through 10 Jan 2014. Feb 4 2014 notified H&A heat pump covered inside and outside with solid ice, came and repaired. Feb 7 2014 H&A tech here as froze again. Feb 9 2014 I called and was told defroster ordered. Feb 13 2014 I called H&A they said they are supposed to expedite the part and defroster is on back order. Feb 17 2014 H&A here and changed defroster. Feb 21 2014 H&A replaced sensor and defroster from icing. Feb 28, 2014 I called H&A heat pump again iced up.

2 March 2014 I notified H&A heat pump fan hitting ice. 4 March 2014 H&A said defroster coming through Customs and should be here end of week or next week. 17 March 2014 H&A said defroster in yesterday (16th March). 18 March H&A changed thermostat in heat pump. I told him that if it isn't there then someone needs to put Freon in. 7 July 2015 H&A called and said truck driver with parts was in an accident and she was trying to find where part was. She said something about install tomorrow and I told her someone needs to come today and put Freon in today. I also informed her I have a mountain dog and the heat can kill her. She said someone will be here today to either install the part of put Freon in. Currently 95 degrees inside house and 90 degrees outside.

In June 2012, unit had lost its charge requiring recharge. Again hot days endured. Leak detection came up negative. In June 2015, unit has again failed to cool. Suspected loss of charge again but waiting 2-3 days in heat for technician to get to work on it. It gets hot in the summer in south Texas. I regret having bought another Trane. Trane equipment quality has plummeted since 1990's and is now no longer dependable. The unit is a 14 SEER system installed and serviced by Honeycutt Air Conditioning in Belleville, TX.

In October 2014, I bought a Trane XV18 Outdoor unit model #4TWV8036 from a popular installer in Northern VA. This unit was to replace a Ruud single stage 11 SEER unit located just outside of my master bedroom wall. The installer led me with the impression that decibel level output by this new variable speed unit would be considerably less than what we were used to. Trane advertises the unit to run at 72 decibels (47 degree ambient temperature). As soon as winter hit and we cranked on the heat, I knew a mistake had been made, and I was in for a ride. Long story short, the unit was running at just under 90 decibels and the variable speed compressor put out a searing noise that would not let me sleep at night. The installer agreed to decibel test the unit and found the same outcome. An insulation blanket was placed over the compressor to decrease the noise by 5 decibels.

The installer and a representative from Trane came to my home to tell me that my unit was running according to specs. I was told that other customers were having similar issues with XV18 noise output and that Trane was putting out a software "patch" that might help. It did not. The installer also offered to change my unit's compressor settings to decrease noise output, but I told the installer that I paid to have the unit run at maximum efficiency. At this point, many emails had gone back and forth between me, the installer, and the Trane rep over the course of 5 months. Since the high speed compressor was the real issue, I even asked to have XV traded out for a two stage XL. However, Trane would refuse to reimburse me the difference between the two units. So, I was stuck with a noisy, variable speed unit.

Finally, the installer agreed to move the unit to a farther point away from our bedroom at no additional cost. We are now in the AC season, and I must say that the unit is true to form during the summer months. Noise levels are as advertised when the unit is in AC mode. In conclusion, my advice to-date is to avoid placing the XV18 anywhere close to living space that requires low levels of noise. This unit offers high levels of noise output at high pitch when in heat mode at 50% or more compressor speed.

I was informed that it will cost me $1390 for labor, Freon, etc. to replace the compressor that's under WARRANTY. It truly does stink that this occurred. I'm one person who cannot afford an additional $1400. The installer reports that they will replace the txv, filter drier, and o.e.m. capacitor along with the compressor. The installer reports that there are nothing wrong with the other items (just the compressor has failed), it's just that they will replace everything so I may have an additional warranty through the installer.

I just want to make sure that Trane will not be charged for the additional parts that are not defective, unlike the compressor. The installer reports that they can finance the services. Unfortunately, this is the way I will have to go. I see that there are others with similar experiences. It's my fault for accepting "word of mouth" instead of actually researching consumer reviews.

Replaced a 14-yr old 5-ton RHEEM split system with a new 5-ton XV20i condenser ("matched field" - XC80 gas furnace and 5-ton evaporator coil in the attic). Well, I was surely sold on looks and the rhetoric of what it can do - a variable speed (720 speeds) of compressor and furnace, Wi-Fi capable, energy-efficiency, etc. Right from the start I realized there is something fundamentally wrong with this AC system. As an example, lowering the temp. from 75 to 73 degrees takes over an hour to achieve (with inside humidity of 50% and outside temp just below 90 degrees). My old Rheem unit, before going out (due to its evaporator coil leaking) would take about 5 mins (for sure no more than 10 mins under similar conditions).

After the system was installed I thoroughly inspected each and every duct supply coming out of the new plenum for leaks and found none. Please note, I did not have new ducts installed, so my existing ones were used with the new system. Also, the new system was connected to the existing freon lines (that run from the outside unit to the attic). I believe, if the freon lines (hidden as they pass thru walls and to the attic) are leaking (thus showing that the system is undercharged), the thermostat would detect such and give an error code. But no alerts or error code(s). When the unit is cooling (fan blower is on), there is a loud, annoying noise coming from one of the two return vents. When at night, being quiet, the noise is so loud that we can not stand it and takes us longer to fall asleep.

Asking the install company to investigate/resolve an issue is like asking for a discount after you already paid them for the service - after being paid for their service, they are gone/done with you! Making things worse, calling Trane's customer service is just a joke - long wait time, untrained / uninformed customer service people. The company does not have any tech support. The company does not have a field rep like other HVAC manufacturers do. You get ZERO support from this company and you will immediately feel unwelcome when talking to them.

As a result, we have nowhere to go, no help from Trane at all!!! Their response was "call your installer or an authorized Trane dealer for help." Well, calling another dealer for service, after you tell them you had a brand new system installed a week ago, they will shy away (not wanting to deal with another installer's flaws). Trane knows that and they do not care. This is TOTALLY unacceptable! Folks, this is a bad company, PERIOD!! Think twice before you buy their products. This has been an ongoing nightmare... cannot cool the house efficiently and cannot sleep at night from the noise. All of these because of Trane (an unorganized company making flawed products and providing zero tech support)! SHAME ON YOU TRANE!

However, we had to have three service calls in 2014 because of cooling issues. We live in Wisconsin so we do not use the unit too often but three calls in the first year and half was nuts, not to mention the service charges we paid. About a month ago, we joked that we should turn the unit on just to make sure it worked and sure enough, we turned it on and 5 hours later, our house was two degrees warmer.

Another call to the company we use who came out the next day and after checking the unit, told my husband that the coil needed to be replaced, and that while the part was under warranty, the labor would cost 1800 and take a couple weeks to get the part...the unit has been discontinued. Our other option was a new unit for 2100.00 (Trane would give us 300.00 off the new unit - big deal) We opted for the new unit, who would fix the old for that amount of money with no guarantee something else would go wrong. Now, every time I go in the basement and look at my new Trane furnace, I wonder what the future holds for us.....hoping we don't have to replace that as well. My wife and I purchased a 2500 sf. home in 2011 that was equipped with 2 Trane HVAC systems. The home was designed to operate with 2 systems to provide adequate airflow for both 1st & 2nd floors and to eliminate the excessive wear & tear of only relying on 1 unit to do the job. To this point, I have never owned a home that was equipped with a Trane product, but have always heard great things. We actually thought we were getting a little "Peace of Mind" because of the feedback we've heard about the Trane brand, but "Peace of Mind" was the last thing we received.

Our opinion about Trane products took a turn for the worst last week when I noticed that the AC system sounded slightly louder than usual. My first instinct was to check the vents for airflow, which there was no cold ac coming out. When I checked the main HVAC unit, I noticed the lines were frozen (usually means low Freon or better yet, a Freon leak). At this point I called a reputable AC company to come out, fix the leak and recharge the system. When the technician arrived he began troubleshooting the system and discovered there was severely more problems with the unit than originally expected. When the technician opened the unit he noticed that there was excessive corrosion to the internal parts, which also needed to be repaired.

After a full survey of my ac system the technician told me that I have 2 choices: Option 1, repair the defective internal parts which was quoted at $2,600.00 or Option 2 Replace the entire AC system for about $6,000.00. I called Trane to inquire about any warranty offering and the lady kindly informed me that my unit was not covered.

I'm not a detractor of the Trane brand because of the quoted cost of repair, I am completely aware of the Cost of Ownership and maintenance cost. I'm a detractor of the brand because the product performance/life expectancy does not meet the company's product message. There is a certain level of expectations that consumers have when they spend their additional money for a premium product. Being a first time Trane owner and having had my first experience working with Trane's customer service, I can honestly say I have ZERO interest in ever owning another Trane. I will try to load pictures of my A/C system to accurately reflect its condition. Externally, the system looks brand new. Internally, well, that is a different story.

Wash & dryer from Maytag, GE & LG kitchen appliances well past their warranty & they work just fine. With that said can you explain why my other Trane system hasn't had all these problems? Why hasn't my other air handler not caused me the same grief??? Why would 1 system operate problem-free while the other is having problems? Maybe the one Air handler is a lemon that needed the coil to be replaced but wasn't a few years back when it was covered under warranty? Maybe Trane should send out a home office professional to go & take a look. Maybe I was sold an American Standard & not a Trane air handler & it is a lemon.

I say lemon because it didn't built to last 6 years. Are we clear on my point of view? If the selling point was that Trane is not built to last longer than 6 years under normal operating situation in a residential home and unless it is serviced regularly, they should have made a point of that when I bought it because I would have gone elsewhere because my prior systems didn't require such hand holding and no one I know has had these kinds of problems. I was told that Trane would last me many years & were an excellent value. I bought these systems with the EXPECTATION I was getting DOUBLE DIGIT years out of them!!! I couldn't disagree any more. You need to reconsider your position. Trane had a recall out for 100,000 units - make a mistake there??? Causing electrical problems, shock, possible fires??? Take care of your AIR Handler in my house.

So we bought the top of the Line Trane Heat Pump Model XV20i. It was installed in October. In November it began having icing issue. The Heat Pump would be covered in ice. By December the Heat Pump was having catastrophic failures, complete shutdown. We were heating our house using the Auxiliary Heating System. That proved to be costly in terms of electricity. The Trane technicians and our local installation crew maintained the problem was caused by a program bug.

Trane installed a new program. Seemed to work for a time. Then more catastrophic shutdowns. Trane technicians then claimed the problem was a manufacturing error - the unit had not been loaded with enough cooling material and hence did not have enough internal pressure to operate effectively. The unit worked for a time then in Mid April we had one more catastrophic failures. This time the compressor had given up. We have advised the Trane distributor to remove the system.

I purchased two Trane 3 Ton 15 Seer systems in April 2013. One of the systems has consistently experienced significant issues and over the last 8 months, I have had technicians out to my home more than 15 times. The evaporator coil has been replaced twice, the unit has had the EEV replaced at least three times, refrigerant added, you name they have done it. When I contacted Trane corporate to ask them to help me deal with the issue and potentially replace what is clearly a faulty unit (as I did not have technicians on-site the numerous other times the unit would require resetting) it took multiple days to get a call back.

They are not willing to send a field rep and are clearly not standing behind their products. Getting through to their customer service require that I call them back and though I would be told I would be contacted they failed to do so consistently to help resolve the issue. All and all the product is clearly not adequate as imagine if your car broke down and required that many repairs in such less than a year time span. The customer service experience was even worse.

I had a Trane Heat Pump installed January 2014. Initially it was quiet and shut off the same... quietly. Because the compressor is close to my living room wall and the handler is up in the bedroom attic, this issue is quite important to me. The air-handler revs up and pulsates before the unit kicks on and then since it is a two-stage unit, it does the same when it shuts off. It's very annoying when I am trying to sleep at night. The outside unit which is located on the ground outside the living room runs quietly enough until it shuts off.

It shuts off very hard and very abruptly causing the metal unit to sound like someone just hit it real hard with a rubber mallet. And then it continues to vibrate probably due to the fact that the metal that is used is so thin it cannot absorb it, I am guessing. I've heard it go off half way down the block when I am out front. It's kind of startling. I had a routine maintenance check this week and mentioned this to the repair man. He went out and drilled something and it seemed okay but for only two days. Now it is the same as it was before.

As far as the air handler, he said that that was its way of "talking" to the outdoor unit and it was normal. That's just the way they work he said. All in all, I wish I would not have bought this system. I also will, in the future, deal with a company that takes my concerns seriously and fixes the problem... right. I am stuck with this unit for a while now so I guess I will have to make the best of it... somehow. In the meantime, I plan on calling Trane tomorrow (good luck, huh, from what I've been reading) to see what might be up. I also will be calling the service company to tell them their fix didn't fix the problem. On the positive side, this system does cool well and my power bills are lower which is a great thing since I live in the desert. However, it is definitely coming at a price... my rest and peace of mind and the peace of my neighbors. Their patio is on the side of where my a/c unit is located.

In heat mode the coil caused the electrical panel to condensate, shorting out the control panel. Trane says because it was not installed by one of their "DEALERS" the warranty was null and void. I am very dissatisfied with this product and will tell everyone I know how Trane will not address the problems with their design flaws.

Discovered unit not operating in January 2015 - first time we attempted to heat house. Now almost May and unit still not working. So far fan motor has been replaced, a capacitor, two circuit boards, and now more Freon added. It appeared to work, but original problem appeared next day. Either units are defective, or technicians have insufficient repair training. I want to sell home, but it won't pass home inspection until the unit works. I should have read reviews, but assumed Trane was a reputable brand. It is essential to have a back up heating system if you choose this product. Unit is attractive and looks "high tech". Too bad it cannot function.

So much for the 20-year life expectancy we were told to expect when we bought it. We had to have the inducer motor assembly replaced twice within the first year of ownership - at least that was covered under warranty. 13 years later, we have had to replace the blower motor assembly in December 2014 for $800, parts and labor.

Now, in March 2015, we have to have the inducer motor assembly replaced again at a cost of $900.00, parts and labor. The local HVAC service technician was able to get it running temporarily - bad bearings - while they order the part. It's been a brutally cold winter here in the northeast, so the furnace has gotten a work-out. We will be pricing new furnaces this summer - and we will not be buying a Trane. When the furnace works, we have been happy with the variable speed functionality. But the endurance has been very disappointing, especially since it was such an expensive furnace to begin with.

We purchased our new construction house in 2012. After a year on the market, neither the builder nor the dealer informed us of the need to register the Trane unit within 60 days. We did not know of this requirement until it failed on 2/24/2015, in the middle of snow and freezing weather. We were told the blower motor had locked up and it should be covered under warranty. Trane denied the claim, saying it was only a 1 year warranty.

In looking at the documentation, I found Trane document #**, the 2012 warranty document (effective 8/1/11) which says unregistered warranty period for the 4TEC model is 5 years and registered is 10 years. My dealer told me I was wrong and I could contact Trane so I did (and I'm changing dealers, needless to say). They also said I was wrong, and sent me Trane document #**, the 2011 warranty document (also effective 8/1/11???) that says it is 1 year unregistered and 5 years registered.

I have many problems with this. As I understand it, our unit was installed in November 2011, so shouldn't the newest document (2012 warranty document (effective 8/1/11)) apply? How are they both effective on the same date? And what kind of product are they selling (for tens of thousands of dollars) that only warrants a 1 year warranty? How do you go from a 1 year warranty to a five year warranty for one year and then back to a 1 year warranty?

My dealer said they stopped installing them when they found out it was a one year warranty, but that doesn't help me any. It's time for all states, not just California, to make it illegal for these companies to require registration for warranties to be in effect. The heat won't be fixed for at least a week (did I mention the freezing cold and snowstorms?) and I'm out $1200 on a unit that's less than 5 years old. That's a crime.

Presently the unhappy owner of a Trane XE 90 - which was reported to be the best available by several dealers at the time of purchase. Over a period of the most recent 6 years this Trane unit has consumed $2,061.50 in parts and labor costs which consisted of a blower motor, four control boards, a flame rollout switch, a heat exchanger, a new thermostat and, just yesterday, $339 for the (20 minutes actual labor time) replacement of a $29.72 igniter. The control board was constantly being diagnosed, by Trane service representatives, as the problem with erratic heat and blower start up. After the third control board replacement, I contacted the White Rodgers Engineer that designed the board and he arrived our home, removed the board, installed a new one then took two of the old boards to their lab. Findings were that there is something else going on with the furnace so they contacted Trane.

Trane sent their service representative to check our furnace out - after which a new heat exchanger was installed along with a flame rollout switch. The furnace has not run right for 6 years now and just yesterday it quit igniting. The local Trane repair service charged me $75 for a part that was priced by an internet retailer at $29.72. The labor cost was $309.28 for the technician who arrived at 3:50 p.m. and was out of our driveway at 4:15 p.m. Needless to say, this is $742.27 per hour which is 3.7 times the hourly cost of the surgeon that did my triple heart bypass surgery. I agree that Trane, and their service network, are probably the poorest example of product reliability and service on the U.S. market. I am of the belief that Trane owners are victims of being sold a bad product that technicians can not properly repair and Trane should be held accountable to their product owners as defendant in a class action law suit.

In early July 2014 I had a Trane XV18 Heat Pump, Air Handler and TZone950 thermostat installed in our home. I thought I was purchasing a premium heating/cooling system. I was soon to be proven wrong. When the system was installed we discovered it was DOA (Dead On Arrival). The main circuit-breaker was defective and the system could not be turned on. Two days later the Contractor received a replacement circuit-breaker, installed it and the Heat Pump was operational. Soon after, I discovered one of the panels on the Air Handler was warped. Not only was it cosmetically wrong, it was leaking air. A photograph of the original panel is shown below. The Contractor repeatedly called Trane requesting a replacement panel and was assured that the panel would be shipped soon. This did not prove to be the case and I decided to get involved.

After extensive searching on the internet and several telephone calls, I succeeded in reaching the "Trane Escalation Center" in Saint Louis, MO. Within a week the Contractor received a replacement panel. One problem - when they came to our home to install it, it proved to be the wrong part! More telephone calls ensued and a replacement panel was eventually received. The Contractor came to our home and installed it. It proved the same, if not worse than the original. Eventually a repair kit was received by the Contractor. The so-called repair kit proved to be two metal clips in a padded envelope. No instructions and no indication how they were to be installed. The HVAC technician spent about three hours and finally figured out how to install one clip. Evidently, that was all that was required. The installed clip looks as if it's a "quick-fix", not something that would be part of a normal installation. In fact, the Air Handler installation guide makes no mention of such a clip to be installed, leading me to believe that it was a "make-do" repair to work around a defective design.

At this point the Heat Pump system appeared to be working correctly. However, I discovered a problem with the TZone 950 thermostat and the Contractor replaced it. That was not the end of my troubles with the thermostat. One of the features of this thermostat was the ability to install photograph images to be used as a screen saver. They as I might I could not get the images to install. The Contractor told me all sorts of reasons I couldn't get the photographs to load. All of those reasons proved to be incorrect. At that point the Trane Escalation Center provided me with contact information on how to contact Trane engineering in Tyler, TX. I corresponded with the engineer there and then ended up doing my own investigation on what might be the problem with the thermostat. (I am an electrical engineer.)

I came to the conclusion that the problem with the photographic images was that, since they originated with a Macintosh computer the image format was incompatible with the thermostat software. In other words, to use the photo feature in the TZone 950 thermostat one must use a PC. I provided my information to the engineer in Texas. After several weeks he replied that my analysis was most likely correct but that they were too busy to address the issue at this time. Additionally, while all this was going on I attempted to reach the President of Trane, Gary S. Michel, in Davidson, NC. I wrote him a letter and never received a reply. Recently, in desperation I wrote a letter to Mike Lamach, the CEO of Ingersoll-Rand, in Dublin, Ireland. Again,(Ingersoll-Rand is the parent company to Trane.) I have not received a reply to that letter either.

In studying the TZone 950 thermostat these past months I've compiled a list of the shortcomings of this very expensive thermostat that the October 2014 issue of "Consumer Reports" gives an outstanding review. I can't help but wonder if they even spent any time examining this thermostat. The List is shown below. TZone 950 Issues:

My nine year old XV90 Trane furnace leaks water and two different contractors concluded that the heat exchanger is cracked. Even though the heat exchanger has a lifetime warranty, it will not be honored by Trane because that piece for my model is discontinued. As a result, they will only offer a credit of $360 for that towards a new Trane furnace. For a piece that is the heart and soul of the machine, that amount of credit is simply laughable since it would cost a lot more than that if purchased out in the market. Therefore, this lifetime Trane warranty is simply misleading to say the least. For now there is no resolution other than me shopping for a new furnace and I will never buy a Trane product due to this fiasco of a lifetime warranty.

After 7 years my a-c evaporator (the coil in the air handler located in my garage) needed replacement. It could not be repaired because the copper tubing was so thin that it could not permanently contain the refrigerant (Freon 22). The technician who installed the new coil asked me to lift the defective coil he had removed. It weighed about ten pounds, then he showed me a coil that was in perfect condition, from a similar a-c (48,000 BTUs (4 tons)) that was manufactured about thirty years earlier, it weighed about twenty five pounds. More than twice as heavy. The copper tubing was much heavier, not tissue paper thin like the newer unit. Why have our political leaders created very strict laws to prevent the escape of refrigerants and other destructive gases but they allow companies like Trane to make exorbitant profits while polluting the environment with these millions and millions and millions of leaky a-c coils? Why? Ask yourself, why?

Trane dealers refuse to offer us an extended warranty on our equipment, but from what I just read on the Trane website, "Renewal is at the sole option of Trane Standard Warranty Company." So, which is it? Why are we getting the run around? Apparently, you can pick and choose whomever you want to offer warranties to? Why not just be honest on the Trane website and save the consumer a lot of grief? Dorothy ** with Customer Service was nothing but extremely rude to my husband today (10/01/14) as all we are trying to do is get an extended warranty for our furnace and air conditioning unit and we have received nothing but grief.

We were told authorized dealers apparently can choose whether or not to offer extended warranties, so we are between a rock and hard place as dealers that are close enough to service us - will not offer us an extended warranty - aka no one will take our money and now I realize it's actually up to Trane - we've been lied to. Do you actually even extend warranties? Trane says that there is nothing they can do so I guess after 5 years - we are on our own - even if we want to pay for an extended warranty?

Apparently, Trane cares nothing about their reputation or the customer b/c these sites are currently FULL of complaints. My husband and I have been working to get this accomplished for months now (expires 10/04/14). According to the Trane website, the independent Trane dealer is "committed to the best customer satisfaction" - I assume your home office is as well. This cannot be farther from the truth as no one is willing to assist us. In addition, my husband and I have to take very valuable time out of our days to deal with this - which bewilders us both considering you are "committed to the best customer satisfaction" and all. Just like they say... Nothing runs from a customer like a Trane...

We purchased a Trane AC unit in 2005 thinking it would be top quality with a reputable company. In 2009 the unit stopped working due to a refrigerant leak. We had always had it serviced by the company that installed it but they were now out of business. I went to the Trane website and got the name of another authorized dealer. They came and serviced it, noted the leak and told us that they knew right where to look as this is very common for these to leak in one certain spot of the coils. They said they would charge it and work with Trane to get the issue fixed. The next year we had to call them back as it was low and needed charged again.

They checked the unit and called Trane to get the unit fixed under warranty. They needed to send a copy of the install invoice to Trane so we gave them a copy. Trane responded by denying the warranty because the installer did not state that the coils were covered by the ten year warranty on the invoice. Every brochure they put out including the one that we had with the invoice in our file clearly states that the coils are covered for ten years. If they had fixed it the year before rather than simply charging it (it was less than five years) it would have been covered but they said it wasn't leaking enough to qualify. We called Trane directly many times to try to make them cover the unit under warranty but they really don't care about customer satisfaction and didn't want to be bothered. We have since replaced the Trane with another unit and I will never deal with Trane again.

(Nice work on the design Trane). Sept 2014 another a/c stopped blowing cold air. The repair Technician said that the starter went bad so that's why the compressor was not working. So now another large bill to repair a 4 year old Trane a/c unit. $400 a few months ago and now $700 +. Not so happy with Trane right now. Of course none of the parts could be warranted. It took 90 minutes and I was charged $1055.48 which included refrigerant. Shouldn't refrigerant be part of the parts? I asked why so much and they said this was a standard fee for this work. Its amazing Trane uses such cheap copper tubing or makes such poor connections so that it fails within a few years. It's even more amazing HVAC companies can charge almost $500 per hour for repairs. Our electric bills over the summer months have been about $100 lower per month. It has a variable speed fan which ramps up quietly after the compressor starts up and ramps down at the end of the cycle. My only complaint to date is the start-up noise of the compressor. It is very loud when it starts up. I've called the installer and had them come back out - they say it's normal. It can't possibly be normal with a brand new system, especially if it wakes you up every time it starts up. This is a design flaw in my opinion.

This is an obvious design flaw, and I've talked with three installers who know about it causing failures. Yet Trane will only provide the specific piece that failed (coil), while I have to pay the labor of $1340. That's a substantial portion of the original cost, installed. It's the hottest, most humid time of the year, and I have to wait for 10 days or more for the part (not in stock), then pay the labor. Outrageous!!! Trane customer rep says that is all they are required to do, and offers nothing else. The full outdoor unit is available immediately, and the service labor cost is far lower (probably less than $600). Why should I pay anything for repairing an obvious design flaw (I'm a reliability engineer)? Man-up Trane, and do the right thing by replacing the outdoor unit immediately. OK... purchased new Trane HVAC with CleanEffects Air Cleaner in November 2011. In July 2012, returned from vacation to find that fan had quit working. Fixed in 2 days. In July 2014, the CleanEffects quit working - diagnosed as a bad door which contains the electronics. Waited 2 weeks for part. Called installer who said the Trane was having a problem supplying the part as they had changed to a new company to manufacture the units and parts for the CleanEffects. Installer said that he was trying to get local distributor to provide the door from a unit in stock but to date that has not been accomplished.

I sent email to Trane and received response stating that they hoped to have backlog of parts orders caught up by mid-August 2014. My concern and disappointment with Trane stems from the fact that the company and its distributors appear quite ready to sell CleanEffects units on hand knowing full well they cannot support the product and are at the same time ignoring needs of current owners of the units. Trane seems to have a problem maintaining parts' inventories for their products. I would certainly advise anyone to steer clear of buying the CleanEffects air cleaner as I'm not convinced that it does much of anything when it does "work".

This is the reason I chose Trane for my heating and cooling comfort. Both my units worked perfectly for about 8 years. When the furnace would stop, but blower would run in the winter, my Trane repairman blamed the control board and the blower motor which were quite costly. The second service expert found it was the limit sensor, and suggested the control board that I said I had it replaced. Three winters of blowing air with no heat unpredictably the third repair guy, replaced the temperature limit and suggested my under floor vents were the issue. It comes down to that my Trane Furnace XE-90 only works properly when the weather is mild and heat isn't really needed. Advice to Trane furnace owners to look up the control panel light flash indicator's meaning, it can tell you how many flashes you see represent the problem supposedly. Additionally watching the Trane tech, there is a way to have the front panels off while the unit works (Be safe about electricity at this point.) There is a trigger button on the top left that can be taped down with electrical tape. I can't afford to have repairmen around, or replace it all. The A/C went too, still working on that one.

Trane still fought me on trying to charge for the compressor! Next, thermal switch went out, was told we don't change our filters enough... What, twice a month ain't good enough for a freakin' Trane?!? Now, we've got clogging in the Condensation drain system... Enough condensation to flood my son's bedroom!

Reason for the clog: Reduced ID on the drain tube and a negative gravity feed which collects sludge and clogs. Don't know what school of thought these guys have, but honestly would it hurt to have a free flowing drain system under the tray? They ripped open a wall, flooded out garage by breaking a pipe, and we have had countless problems with AC unit. Firstly, the unit is so loud we can't hear the TV over it, or talk on phone while it's running. It makes a loud click noise before it goes on and the decibel level raises by 17 points when running. The unit is generating mildew, coming through the vents. The plastic housing is covered in mildew when it's removed. Trane has already replaced 3 motors on this unit. They refuse to pay labor, or have the noise level or mildew addressed. There has been no customer service to help. We absolutely hate this AC unit. It's a nightmare and has made our home unbearable.

Purchased new Trane unit model # XL20i September 2009 and followed all guidelines for maintenance with same vendor who installed unit. Starting December 4, 2013 we lost our cooling. Diagnosis in February 11, 2014 proved both coils to be defective and in need of replacement along with the dryer and another part. At the time of diagnosis, we found we had a full coverage parts and labor policy in place through Home Depot. We have been waiting since that time without any air conditioning as they claim Trane does not have parts and they need to ship from the factory.

As of March 19, 2014 we still have no air, no word on part availability other than it needs to ship from Trane soon (not sure when that will be). Home Depot did offer to sell us a window unit to buy time and they stated they would take it back. The Home Depot rep that we have been dealing with makes it sound like he is trying to help and I can only hope he is, but the results still appear bleak as of now. Our HOA does not allow window units, so we endure no A/C and no answers from anyone. I asked Home Depot to remove our unit and refund our money so I could get a reliable unit from somewhere else or for them to remove and exchange our unit for a new one - both those offers were rejected by Home Depot.

I feel that neither Trane nor Home Depot are able to deliver any type of quality service. Trane was sold as the top-of-the-line "Communicating" model with no equals as well as the highest SEER rating. Why the whole unit is falling apart after only 4(+) years of use is very troubling for me. The flagship unit of a manufacturer is supposed to perform like no others and something to be proud of. We are extremely sorry that we even purchased this unit.

I am a HVAC contractor having installed Trane and American standard units for many years. So 3.5 years ago (this was the year they switched over from R-22 to R410A refrigerant... R410A is a much higher pressure refrigerant!) we installed a new Trane 2 circuit 10 ton condenser and air handler to cool a server room located in a 4 story building. After 13 months of operation the unit sprung a leak.. Trane said 1 year warranty was over so we repaired the leak, no charge to the customer. 2 years later another leak in a different brazing joint. 3 years later two more leaks on separate circuits and again on different brazing joints.. 3.5 years another leak...

Finally customer had enough of their servers shutting down in emergency mode causing damage and customer loss.. We lost complete trust in the ability of this unit to hold a refrigerant charge. I stepped in again and installed a complete new condensing unit, crane rental, spot cooler rentals and all.... "Thousands of dollars later" I demanded Trane reimburse the cost of the new condenser and I would handle all other cost and rentals, they declined! The 10 ton "Lemon" is stored in the back of my shop at the moment (in case I need it for proof). Needless to say I have ended all sales of Trane and American Standard.

It shorted out and pan overflowed and damaged my dining room ceiling and floor... had to be replaced. The co. that installed it, did nothing but do everything wrong. Said it would only take 2 weeks to install, but it took 21/2 months, during this time they damage the floor in family room, had to replace wood & carpet. They think they have fixed everything, but I think there is still a short in that one unit, as it makes weird noises and black looking smoke come out of vent in kitchen, next to that unit and smells. I am looking for fire anytime, as they will not do anything else to it as it is working. I have another unit in the other end of house and have not had any trouble with it yet???

We have a Trane heat pump and electric furnace. The whole system is 11 years and 2 months old. The heat pump has to be replaced because the compressor is shorting out. When I contacted the Trane company, I was told there was nothing they could do since the warranty was only 10 years. I thought Trane was such a great product! I would never recommend this product to anybody!

Bought a complete Trane AC/HeatPump/AirHandler system 4-1/2 years ago, model XR14c. It has failed 8 times, with replacement of many parts. The warranty is for 5 years. Wrote to president of Trane, David Pannier, and was ignored with no response.

New home built in 2007 new Trane furnace installed. Wrong from install, noted by the service technician during a routine maintenance check and trying to fix a water leak coming from side of furnace. Charged me $187.95 and still that night the water leak continued. The next day 3 other techs came and tried to diagnose the problem. A roll of duct tape and lots of PVC piping later, the leak finally stopped after making my new furnace look laughable. Now we have rust issues caused from the water leak causing parts and switches to degrade and corrode.

Needing a $20 part replaced the same reputable Trane dealer would like to charge $278 plus tax for something their bad install job caused to go out. After explaining that I feel the part was damaged because of the water leak that developed from a bad install and should be replaced at no charge, they told me I should just buy the part and replace myself. I said I'm not going to do that and they told me they are wiping their hands clean of me and walking away from my situation.

I tried to call Trane and they hung up on me. I tried sending email and they tell me they're free to charge whatever they'd like to charge me as they are independent dealer. They do not want to understand that these problems are because of either a bad product or simply the bad install the tech admitted to. I will never own another Trane product during my lifetime. Horrible customer service and worse product. You can see from my photos the install job they did to my Trane furnace and the rust that has developed. And yet still no one from Trane or the installer would like to take blame.

Replaced our 30-yr-old furnace with a new Trane furnace XT95 in Canada. This was installed on Feb. 20, 2013. The heating is poor. We have a finished basement and it never gets above 58 degrees F. When I sit on my couch just above the furnace, it feels like I`m riding on a train. Have had numerous service calls but they don`t know what`s the matter. They've changed motors, adjusted parts and used their diagnostics tools and this is the installers. Now have to wait for the big experts from Trane. I was told by the company that sold and installed the furnace that they were coming about 2 weeks before. I even contacted Trane company myself. Still waiting .

Barely more than 5 yrs ago, I had a gas-fired furnace model TUH2D120A9V5VA installed by a reputable HVAC dealer. Last week during 19 F weather, the blower motor quit costing me $1600 in repairs. I wish I had seen all the complaints on the internet before purchasing my furnace and A/C units. Trane obviously has a Quality problem for which their warranties are inadequate. I will not be purchasing another Trane product and I will make sure that my neighbors (neighborhood & internet) are made aware of Trane's numerous bad reviews. They are obviously more interested in their bottom line than in their products.

My HVAC service man has just left after sharing the good news that yet another expensive fix is in store for me because of my Trane. My system was installed 5 years and 6 months ago, and wouldn't you know it, my leaking evaporator coil is toast and the warranty is... well yes... 5 years. This another in a long list of failures, repairs, bad contactor, bad capacitor, blown fuses, indoor unit fan not assembled correctly from the factory with evidence that the set screw was screwed down on the round instead of the flat of the shaft (that was a nice sound in the middle of the night btw), coolant added several times during the last 3 years until today finally discovering a huge leak in the evap coil. I guess it finally made its way from a slow leak to a deluge. Last fill lasted 24 hours. This is ridiculous. Stay away from Trane, please!
