We purchased a house with a top of the line Trane HVAC unit. I would give the performance a 5 star rating. Then is broke down at the 9 1/2 year mark. Lots of problems with sensors going out and then the coil failed soon after that. The unit was still under warranty but soon found that most AC contractors can't work on Trane due to Trane using a 9 volt system to communicate between the thermostat and the outside unit and it takes very specialized training.
Trane is not popular with repair people. Trane told our AC contractor it would be about 4-6 weeks to get the replacement part. It's been five weeks and my AC contractor calls Trane every day. He said that he has another customer that has been waiting on parts for his Trane AC for over two months. Our contractor has now started calling Trane every day and gets the same answer, "We'll call you when it comes in" with no other details. Contractor stated that when a part does come in he sends someone to pick it up. They call inside when they get there, can't speak to anyone and typically waits 1-2+ hours for a Trane employee to come out with the part. This is after Trane called and said the part is here. I'll neve buy a Trane again. The customer service is the worst I've ever experienced from any company I've dealt with.

Consumer's Original Complaint: No resolution for: Brand new installed on 20 Aug 2020, Trane FURNACE (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) making unacceptable unhealthy noise. We have a Brand New - installed on 20 Aug 2020 - Trane FURNACE (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) making unacceptable unhealthy noise from the Blower Motor and Wheel. Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **.
We contacted the Local Authorized Installer the day after the installation to complain about the noise. On 3 September we sent an e-mail with a formal complaint about the noise. We have had the Local Authorized Installer visit twice and make adjustments to the furnace and adjust the fan speed (lower the speed). It is now set at the lowest possible speed, which as expected, does not adequately cool or heat our house - the system is on all day to achieve a comfortable level of 73 degrees.
On 11 September, the 2nd visit, the 2 person service team agreed that the noise coming from the Furnace Blower was "not normal" and sounded like metal on metal. They reported that information to the Local Authorized Installer Company Headquarters. On 21 September, the Local Authorized Installer informed me that they had ordered a replacement "Motor and Blower Wheel". On 23 September the Installer Company confirmed the parts ordered. Today, 29 September, the Local Authorized Installer stated that they would not install new/replacement parts because Trane Corp HQ would not give them credit for the parts or for a replacement system. Moreover, Trane Corp HQ told the Local Authorized Installer that the noise was "normal" for this model.
We live in a split-level house. The Furnace is in the center of the lower level. The metallic sound travels straight up the intake vents and can be heard in all three bedrooms. I measured the sound on app "Sound Meter" with results of Decibel (DB) ratings of: Average 74 BD, Max 76 DB when the Air-Conditioner is on (Cooling) and Average 65BD, Max 69 DB with just the fan blowing.
Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **: I called Trane Corp customer service department 3 times to request for the Specifications on the Sound Ratings for this model. That office informed me that they do not have that information as they do not have any technical information. I am a senior citizen and a disabled veteran. The noise has elevated my blood pressure and has caused my tinnitus (ringing in the ears) to be a continual headache. No resolution in unacceptable. Please help.
Trane Corp Response:
1. Trane Corp refused to honor the warranty to replace the Trane Furnace (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) with - any other model that has an acceptable noise level.2. Trane Corp refused to publicize the sound ratings of all of their products, even when specifically requested as a matter of public health.
3. Trane Corp refused to provide basic technical specifications - so that customers can make an informed purchase.

I purchased a new Trane Air Conditioner Unit for my elderly father --- from ---. The outdoor component has serial number ** and its manufacture date was 6/2020. At the time of purchase, I indicated that his condo unit was to be sold soon and that I would like the warranty transferred to the buyer --- at the same address. I was told that this could be accomplished at or after the time of closing with payment of a modest fee. The Trane web page provides the same information but does not include a form or a means of payment. I understand that the registration was processed on September 2, 2020. The unit is running fine, but the warranty transfer process has been impossible.

In 2017, I moved into a brand new home equipped with a Trane HVAC unit. Approximately 30 months later, the air conditioner failed. I was told that the condensing unit, a major part that normally lasts for ten years or more, was defective; that although the part itself was under warranty, the installation labor and coolant replacement were not and that a repair would cost close to $2,000. I was also informed that Trane and their dealers knew they had a problem with their condensers beginning in 2014 but continued to sell them and, as far as I know, based upon the experiences of others, still do. When the problem first occurred, Trane reimbursed the customers affected but eventually stopped the practice when it became apparent that there were so many claims.
Like many of the reviewers, I was given the runaround by Trane customer service. Each time I called, I was asked to repeat all the information I had already provided as though the call was my first. I was assured over and over again that my case was under review but it was never resolved. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that it was not possible. In short, my experience with Trane customer service was probably the worst experience I have ever had with any company. There are many HVAC brands worthy of consideration. Trane is not one of them.

I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying anything by the Trane brand. Here's why: I purchased 2 new systems from them thinking I was getting "better equipment", but that could not be further from the truth. Keep in mind that I live in Arizona where the temps are 115º plus. Now, the first issue is that one of the 2 units went out immediately. It broke when I was out of town forcing the heater to run indefinitely, even though it was set to cool only. As it turns out, they cover all of their wring with peanut oil!?? Well guess what, mice LOVE peanut oil and they were attracted to that lovely taste (probably why we set traps with peanut butter and it works so well). This to me is just simply a bad business decision. Needless to say, everything in our room melted as the temperature was kept above 118 for 3 days straight, while we were gone.
Now none of our drawers close correctly, our doors do not shut right and all of the oil in our wood furniture is gone. On to #2! Oh, Keep in mind, these are less than 1 year old! I am still paying $20,000.00 for these two "lovely" babies!! This time the coil went out, causing us to live in the peak AZ heat for almost a week. I was told that this is uncommon for any brand. I guess we are just lucky. #3 This time the control module went out in the air handler! I was told this never happens unless it is just a bad unit... Again, I guess I am just lucky. #4 This time the Thermostat broke. This is their proprietary thermostat, so their own technology on that thing. Good luck with these things, they have some convoluted method of resetting and joining the network or adopting to your account that is a real treat.
#5 Did I mention that I still have a good year or more to go on my payments for these gems!!! Now, the coil went out and leaked out all of the refrigerant. back to 100º in our house! They said it would be at least a week before they could get the part to me (which I thought was a bit long for such a well know brand with distribution) so I wrote them a letter on their website asking why Amazon can get me anything I need in 2 hours, but they take a week, even though they are installing hundreds of these daily, in my city. I also asked is this the type of "QUALITY" that I should expect from my purchase decision to go with them?Guess what I received back in response to that letter? Well, if you guessed NOTHING, you would be correct. Par for the course here with Trane.
#6 The vents and 2 stage motor never really seemed to be very productive, so I called my dealer locally and asked them to investigate. They found that this unit was shipped with malformed flashing on the air handler and it was blocking 80% of the air flow. He trimmed it out and got it back to normal. So, again, I write another letter to Trane on their website asking if this is something that should be replaced or if it is common and again asked if this is the "Quality" I should expect from their brand. My Answer? Ding Ding Ding, if you guessed NOTHING again!
#7 Still waiting on my coil to be delivered after 2 weeks and the installer just called to tell me that Trane sent the wrong coil, so we will need to reorder it from them, AGAIN, and I need to wait. So, moral of the story? If you want really bad quality, tons of headaches, appointments, ruined furniture and pay at least 4 times as much as other brands, you should absolutely buy Trane. Or if you simply want the indoors of your house to be like this, then you should also buy Trane! Otherwise buy ANYTHING ELSE.

Purchased a Trane system 18 months ago. Live in SE Virginia. The dealer who installed it refuses to honor 2 yr. labor warranty that came with my purchase to repair an expansion valve that failed. Have contacted Trane for assistance. Their reply is - "We don't control our dealers. Sorry." Suggest you go to another brand. Trane does not care about their customers, they do not manage their dealers and they don't care what happens once you buy their product. BUY ANOTHER BRAND.

After much research, we choose an American Standard Heat Pump and Air Handler because of Consumer Report listing their product as top in reliability. Complete system was installed in January of 2016 by Speedy Air Conditioning of Port St Lucie, FL. Since that time, we have had three (3) evaporator coil failures and, last month, the compressor and condensing fan motor failed. This system has a complete failure in every aspect. We are requesting a complete new system, including heat pump and air handler, and were deeply disappointed when the request for a new heat pump, rather than a repair, was rejected.
The dealer's owner/manager, David Binder, has written that "in almost 43 years of HVAC industry experience, I cannot recall ever replacing 3 evaporator coils and having also a condensing fan motor and compressor fail all within the first 4 and a half years of a system being installed, and hope this information will assist you in acquiring replacement equipment from the Manufacturer".

The Trane AC unit that came with our new home stopped working after 8 years. As Trane provides warranty up to 10 years on their products, I reached out to them. I was told they are not going to cover the repairs because I didn't register the unit. That's baloney! If Trane stands behind their products, they wouldn't be hiding behind the fine print to reject warranty claims. I ended up replacing the whole unit. It is just outrageous that the unit failed so badly within 8 years and I had to foot the whole expense. I am disappointed with Trane.

We replaced a failing heat pump with what we thought was 'the Gold Standard' - a Trane system with a 10 YEAR warranty. The system performed admirably for 4 summers, but when hot weather came to Virginia this year, the system stopped cooling b/c of what the installer indicated was a poorly located copper tube that had split and allowed the refrigerant to escape. We assumed it was an installation error that would be covered by the warranty, but in fact, the technician said the units are made that way. Four weeks later and over $1,500 of labor and 'service' charges [$800 of which is 2 occasions of lost refrigerant] we are still waiting for parts because we balked at paying an additional $300 for expedited shipping. It may be 'Hard to STOP a TRANE', but from our experience, it's even HARDER to START a TRANE!

I called TRANE because my TRANE HVAC unit was having problems but working. They said the technician will make only a diagnostic. That, last 4 hours!: broke my thermostat, turn off all the system and just run away, left me with 90 temperature inside the house at night. Before, my system was working 78 to 80 (when the technician arrived was 80). Now is totally off. Please do not trust them, more if you have children in this time of the year with this heat wave.

Trane is a good product, but sadly they employ the use of predatory terms in their warranty program. I purchased my condo in 2017 and didn't know I needed to call Trane to transfer the warranty within 90 days of close on the property. Because of this, they outright cancelled my warranty on my Furnace and AC units (which still had over 10 years left on the warranty program). Therefore, they no longer will honor the warranty on those systems. Not cool, at all. I 'll never buy or recommend Trane again.

Eight years ago I spent close to $20,000 on three XL 20i Trane units, thinking that as I got into retirement I would not have A/C as one of my major expenses. Boy was I wrong. I was told these units were the most efficient units in the world, with variable multi-speed motor and cooling stages. Trane has great marketing. I believe they are probably correct about these units' efficiency, when the units are working properly. I have had a lot of little issues with these units from year three on. Most techs say that they are complex or over engineered, which is why they have such a high failure/maintenance rate.
If you are looking to buy a new A/C unit, I suggest you get online and search for the best A/C. You will quickly see where Trane rates in the top ten makers of A/C. "Nothing runs like a Trane", is probably a good thing. Right now I got one unit that has not run more than a week a half without failure over the past two months. It is down again, and I decide to go with a five star rated company with a couple of hundred reviews. I am now going straight to Tranes' Customer Service.

10 years ago we had a Trane heat pump and indoor unit installed, we didn't buy the extended warranty because Trane appeared to be a solid brand. Literally each year during a/c season we've had to replace some portion of the indoor and/or compressor units. We've had a circuit board short out because a lizard found a way onto the compressor electronics box. We've replaced 3 master control boards in the inside unit and numerous other circuit boards and sensors. The system has not been reliable and has cost us as much in repairs as we paid for it originally. The Trane website talks about all the extensive testing they do but they seem to overlook basic things. It doesn't seem that we should have to replace this many electronics each time we start the a/c season.

We bought a BIG 5000 sq. ft. 5 br/6 1/2 bath house in foreclosure to renovate. We put 4 brand new, high-efficiency Trane central a/c units because we'd always heard Trane was the best and that's what we wanted: pay a bit more than the rest upfront, but get the Best so you wouldn't have to worry as much in the long run... Apparently with the new high-efficiency units, it doesn't quite work that way... We had the house 9 yrs: for the 1st 7 yrs, there literally was not any 6-month period that 1 of the units did not require significant repair service; sure the parts were covered, but not the service calls - it cost us a LOT of extra money.
There was a BIG lot next door and a brand new house was built while we lived there. The new owner put in all new Trane units. For the 1st year or 2, there was an a/c service company at that house almost constantly: he and I used to text back and forth rolling our eyes and shaking our heads at whose Trane system was the crappiest. All the service technicians concurred that Trane USED to be the hands-down best, but that things had changed at the top and they were now quite mediocre.

Trane XR15. Terrible Unit. My unit was installed in August of 2018 - biggest mistake I have ever made with a capital purchase. I bought the filtration system for $1500 and that has never worked. I had to buy 6 house air cleaners. I tried to return the unit after 1 year because it had NO dust whatsoever on it but they refused. The heating works just fine. The a/c is a constant nightmare. It just never cools except at night when the temperature goes down. I am out $10,000 and I am going to have to replace this unit because it is absolute junk. I keep having repair come out who find nothing wrong with the unit. So they have disconnected the $1500 air filtration system to see if this will help with cooling the air. The installers put this on the roof so it is out of the way so no one will trip over it going around the house. I have had no issues with it at all. When this was put in the installers had to put in vents in the ceiling which makes a nice cool house, we only had floor vents before; we had a furnace and window coolers and this took care of both items. Because of this purchase we purchased new windows, nice additions to an old house.

They covered the cost of the part but we had to pay $860 in service charges to have it installed.
In June of 2018 we spent another $220 having a fan capacitor replaced. We contacted Trane Consumer Relations and this time they offered to cover part of the labor charges with the condition that that would not be liable for any future charges arising from defects. We knew the equipment had a history of problems and turned down their offer.

I replaced the system with a new XL 18i condenser and a TAM9 air handler (AHU). This new AHU lasted from May 2018 to December 2018 having developed a leak on a factory welded u-joint.
My dealer in Miami was kind enough to provide a new coil under warranty but Trane would not pay for the shipping and wanted me to send back the defective coil back at my cost. The new AHU coil installed in late March 2018 and lasted until late May 2020 and failed the same way as the first. My dealer was swift in getting me a warranty replacement again but said Trane offered no comment about why the same failure happened. My dealer also noted several other failures of the same nature on AHU coils he supplied over the past year. This is very concerning to me as my previous Trane units seemed unstoppable. I find it hard to read all these negative reviews about Trane. I am Canadian and sell and install Trane furnace's, A/C, Heat pumps and air handlers since 1991 with very little issues at all. I sell a 10 year parts and labour program with every piece of equipment just to make our customers more comfortable with the equipment and if it is required it protects them from any charges for 10 years. I am thinking that the installs that I am reading about are not done to manufacturer's specification which is very important to follow or the equipment will not work properly and or the installers are not properly trained or qualified. There are contractors here also that are not qualified and only care about getting your money, Trane will take away your dealership if you have continuous install problems.
I send my technicians to to training offered by Trane so that they are sure about what they are doing and to ask any questions that they have. Manufacturer's warranty is 5 years on parts for unregistered equipment and 10 years if you register it, I register all our equipment because homeowners will put it off then forget to do it. Some contractors will also charge you for parts that are under warranty and then collect the warranty part from Trane, so shame on you for not paying attention to your purchase.
I will always stand behind Trane equipment over any other brand. If I do have any problems with the equipment, parts are easily available and are covered under warranty with no issues. As for technical support sometimes it is hard to get through but I always get a reply from them and they are very helpful and solve any problems that we have. I encourage you to contact Trane and plead your case if your contractor will not help you. I will always go to bat for my customer and get what they deserve, a awesome piece of equipment, comfort and peace of mind.

We have had sleepless nights due to the loud compressor noise and the system runs 24 hours a day at times. The coils ice up so badly that the ice build up extends out of the side vents and into the fan compartment. We have to resort to our emergency heat unit as the fan blades hit the ice and cannot function. We wait until the unit thaws out with above freezing temps.
Our HVAC company has been out multiple times and says all sensor readings are normal and basically don’t know how to fix our problem. Again we have paid for multiple service calls, the most recent $294 with no resolution. Unlike others, I have not attempted to call Trane, as it seems impossible to get help. They told me to put in a new Trane heat pump and they would give me a $500 rebate after it was installed. I told them I would like one of their local factory tech's to take a look at my unit. They said no. This was one of the worst experiences i have ever had. I had the Trane unit replaced with a carrier unit at my expense. I will never again buy anything built by Trane. The only thing worse than the Trane heat pump was their customer service.

In April 2007 I purchased a Trane residential HVAC system for $8500 from Home Depot. The authorized Trane installer at that time was McCarthy Services. They installed the system and “completed” the install on April 9, 2007. I was given a certificate of warranty by McCarthy that covered from April 9, 2007 to April 9, 2017. Several months later I was looking for the inspection certificate from the county and found that there was not one in my paperwork. I contacted the county to get a copy. They did not find a record of a permit issued for the installation of my HVAC system.
I contacted McCarthy and informed them that they did not get a permit for the install and did not have a county inspection. McCarthy was issued a permit on May 13, 2008 and had the inspector come out. The install failed inspection. They made some changes to the system, and again it failed. Finally, on July 17, 2008, the install passed inspection by the county. On July 1, 2017, the AC failed. A tech looked at it and said the compressor had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the coil also needed to be replaced as the new compressors use a different kind of freon and are not compatible with that coil. The cost was to be $5975.
I called Trane and explained that the original installation did not pass inspection until July 17, 2008 so my 10-year warranty should go from July 17, 2008 to July 17, 2018 and this compressor/coil replacement should be covered by the warranty. They told me to take a hike. I paid for the install out of pocket and filed a complaint with Trane. The Trane customer service person said they could not do anything. I escalated it and that person basically told me to stick it.
I am a home inspector. We used to rate Trane and Carrier as two of the best HVAC systems. We typically tell our customers that any major appliance that is 10 years old could be ready for a replacement in the near future so they should start planning. I have seen AC units that are 20 years old still running fine. More and more we are hearing horror stories about Trane HVAC systems. I no longer recommend Trane to anyone and now suggest Carrier.
Trane seems to have abandoned their commitment to quality and their customer service sucks. I can attest to both. It seems that the one thing that can easily stop a Trane is a few years. So, I decided to file a suit against Trane in the hope that they would at least negotiate some partial payment to me for this replacement (which was a Trane only because if it was a Carrier I would have no chance at any reimbursement). I filed suit in small claims court in my county. I heard nothing from Trane and expected them to be a no-show on the day of court. Instead, they sent a hot-shot lawyer from Washington DC to fight me.
The case was moved to regular court and a trial date was set. I had to file a document called a Bill of Particulars stating my complaint. Their hot-shot lawyer filed a 10-page reply referencing a whole bunch of cases and provided 11 reasons why I should not get my money. I am certain that this has cost Trane more than the $5000 I was looking for. This attorney did not even ask me if I was willing to take some other amount to make me happy and drop the case. They are clearly really serious about not giving a crap about their customer. Please, don’t ever buy a Trane.

In July 2014, I purchased a Trane 4 ton air conditioner and air handler. In July 2017, the coil developed a leak and I spent $1150 in labor cost to install new coil and $300 to replace refrigerant even though the coil was under warranty. In August 2019, the new coil also developed a leak. I had to pay $850 in labor to install my 3rd coil and $390 to replace refrigerant that leaked out. Replacing both coils under warranty cost me a total of $2690. My service technician from AA American Air Conditioning told me that this is a common problem with Trane coils.
I called Trane Customer Service and was immediately told that they would not compensate me for my expenses even though they are selling defective coils. Customer Service told me to have my service technician request a visit by a Trane field representative. He tried to do this but was told that the customer (me) has to contact Trane Customer Service to request a visit by a company field representative. I am in a Catch 22 situation and Trane is giving me the runaround. They clearly do not want to take responsibility for their defective coils and they have a “customer be damned” approach to customer service.

I just learned a hard lesson from Trane's AC system parts warranty. If your builder installed a Trane system, after you purchased your house, besides everything you were working at, you need remember to call Trane to register your AC system. I believe less than 1% people will do this. If that's the case for you, your warranty for parts will be 1 year, instead of 5 year's parts warranty from all other companies. So, don't purchase their product!

15 month ago I had a 2 ton Trane mini split installed in my home. 3 months later I noticed the temperature spread was decreasing. I began looking for problems. I noticed drips of water trickling out of the refrigerant lines/drain house bundle about halfway between the indoor and outdoor unit. I peeled back the wrapping on the a small part of the line bundle and there was a copper union sweating. It was the source of the water. I called the dealer and they came out and tightened the union. When I asked why they would put a union in a run of refrigerant line the installer said it was a Trane requirement for warranty.
I was skeptical, but didn’t debate. 6 months later the union is leaking again and another service call was made. This time I requested that a new line be installed without a union. Same installer, same discussion. He said he would change it out, but it would void my warranty. So, he did replace the union and recharged the lines. Since then I have spent an hour on the phone with Trane and never got an answer. I was referred to a technical group b and never got a call back yet. My question. Why would a union be place in a refrigerant line except to splice to pieces of copper tubing to save money?

For the next 3 years I had to keep tightening screws on it because it would squeak horribly and my neighbors would hear it. So I finally called the installers to have them check it out.
After taking it apart they noticed that the fan blade was bent! There is NO way it bent on its own underneath the cover so I know it was that way from the beginning. They said since I did not get the extended warranty it would cost 400 dollars to get a new blade. I said it was like that from the day they installed it. They did not care. My home in SW Florida was built in 1967. Any HVAC system will have a challenge keeping up with the humidity and high temps here. My Trane AC system is 6 years old. It performs pretty well for the most part. I use cheap filters that allow the system breath and I replace them every month. Don’t waste money on expensive filters unless you have serious allergies. Thick filters make the AC work harder and will wear out the equipment.
General maintenance is easy and I am diligent about keeping the outside unit clean. I use a spray bottle with watered down Dawn dish soap and a garden hose. I regularly clear the drain pipe with my shop vac. I had a routine check-up recently from my home maintenance provider (HomeTech - I highly recommend) and asked the tech why cold air is blowing out of the crevices around the maintenance doors and bolts on my air handler. Plain and simple, it is a design flaw. He said he sees it all the time on Trane units.
I called Trane to find out if there was a replacement part for the casing or a recommended remedy. It was a runaround... All they would tell me is to call my dealer to evaluate the problem. That would cost me $119 for somebody to come out and say, “yep, there’s cold air leaking from the air handler into your garage. I'll call Trane and get back to you.”
Parts are covered, but there was no evidence of parts available. Please! My solution was Gorilla tape and bubble wrap to cut down the loss of cold air. It worked, but it really shouldn’t be so difficult to get a straight answer and a fair solution. I paid a lot of money for my AC system. I didn’t expect to be patching it myself. There is a lot of room for improvement.

We contacted American Standard to try to figure out what the problem was with the shaking and smell. We got no answers and told us parts were under warranty but not labor... In 2019 the compressor failed, we replaced that to the tune of 1700 labor costs. A month later another part inside. Within a week a reverse coil part failed. It was installed on April 17th, 2018. In June of 2019 the Evaporator Coil developed a leak. An Evaporator Coil failure in 14 months is not normal. Under the basic warranty TRANE supplied a replacement part. However labor cost, incidentals, and refrigerant are not covered. The installation cost to repair the unit was $1139. I contacted their customer service and indicated my displeasure with the unit. I also indicated for an Evaporator Coil to fail so early in its service meant it did not meet specifications and was defective from day one.
TRANE offered to pay $500 of the cost to repair. However to receive the $500 I would have to sign a release. The release, released TRANE from any more liability for the unit. It also was a nondisclosure agreement. I was not to discuss any of the details of the settlement under penalty of TRANE suing me for damages. This would also have prohibited me from joining any kind of class action. The Release even had language that cancelled out California Laws on a general release. I live in Florida, why am I releasing them from a California Law.
I refused to sign. At which time TRANE indicated if I did not sign this release, they would not provide any funds for the repair. The customer service agent then closed my ticket concerning the matter. So how many of these infantile failures have occurred on TRANE Evaporator Coils? If I accepted money toward the repair TRANE was making sure I could not talk about the failure. So this is my last TRANE. Trane techs at the Trane supply in Orlando have repeatedly given false information on the unit's problem and false fixes that have cost us and our techs working on the almost 24 hours of repairs and it is still not fixed. It has been 6 days since our unit stopped working and Trane tells us now it will be another 5 days until another part can be delivered and ready. Trane has been unhelpful and inconsiderate of the emergency of not having air conditioning in Florida when the heat index is over 100 and have done nothing but promise results from its equipment and parts which are not being met.
This product is quoted as "reliable". I believe if the unit hasn't worked properly for more than 5 months at a time without an issue occurring and HVAC techs needing to come and repair the unit then it is not reliable and should not be marketed as such. We have 8 pets that live with us and being without a air conditioning unit in the central Florida area can have negative effects on their health or possibly be worse. I was told Trane was the top of the line and worth paying more to have the best, peace of mind, 10 year warranty if registered within 60 days, etc. It's been nothing but a "costly" nightmare once the 5 year mark was reached and the 10 year warranty ended up NOT being what was sold to me. Even though the company has been good about some of the items that were supposed to be 10 years, they have haggled with me and TRANE over what is actually covered on the warranty and the period of time. CRAZY! CRAZY!
With this major purchase, you would expect to get more than 5 years out of a system without spending additional major $$$. The following are my repairs/replacements since May 2016 to date: EFC control board, capacitor, condenser coil (plus R410 to replace what was lost), another trip to fix a R410 leak as a result of when the condenser coil was replaced, replaced entire circuit board, new blower relay, and thermometer all within a 3 year period. Keep in mind, that not only do you pay for labor to install the warranted item, each visit is a service/diagnostics fee.
Today, my system runs constantly causing very high energy bills because the A/C simply can't keep up with the outside temps -- called for service and after diagnosing the units for 1.5 hours, they tell me they can't find anything wrong. The AC Guy told me that they just don't make Trane Units like they used to!! I'm very disappointed in Trane products, I wish I would have read these reviews before taking the recommendation of a company I trust, and certainly don't recommend purchasing a TRANE to anyone. YOU GET CRAP! They have sent their parts to be made in China and the quality control is awful. Their research and development might as will be nonexistent.
Three units and 49 attempted repairs. One unit 10 attempts the first year and Mitchell AC did not write anything up due to the warranty. He also did 7 more the next year without writing up anything. That was a mistake. As you can see I have 32 receipts only!! John ** the DALLAS service area supervisor was involved in all three units. He told Mitchell AC that the unit I purchased was the biggest piece of crap TRANE had ever made. They were never able to get the unit working properly and the communicator never worked. The second unit Mitchell AC installed 7 the first year.
None was Mitchell AC fault and they tried hard to repair but units had manufacturing defects from the factory. Once they figured out that the one unit didn’t get seal correctly at the factory and moisture kept getting in and ruining components. I know I have basically had no air conditioning for three years--using two window units, and essentially limited, if any heat in the winter. I cannot keep paying $1339 every spring for 7 lbs of 410-A due to problems with Trane parts or equipment. Do not buy Trane!! (I plan to create a video and will plan to create a Web Site if available--"DONOTBUYTRANE.COM". Jim **

We installed the higher end Trane unit for a condo in South Carolina due to the heat and humidity. About 18 months later, we had to replace the coil. To add insult to injury, the technician did the 6 month inspection of the unit 2 DAYS before the coil went completely bad and did not see the refrigerant was basically gone at that point. As others have stated, dealers do not stock parts, they have to get them from warehouses that may not be located near the dealer. This was only the coil, something that should be READILY available. The cost was astronomical--even though under warranty, the labor cost was basically 10% of the original purchase price of the unit. I will NEVER purchase a Trane unit again.

We bought a Trane heat pump about 6 years ago based on dealer recommendations and advertisements. Within the first 3 years every part except the cover was replaced under warranty. Since then we spent about $200 every quarter on repairs. The piece of crap is now 6 years old and the quarterly repairs just keep getting higher. I will never buy another Trane. Based on my experience it is a total piece of crap that cost more than any other product I have ever owned. We replaced a Goodman that I thought was expensive. When we replace this piece of crap I'll buy another Goodman and gladly pay the repair bills. My personal advice DO NOT BUY A TRANE!!!

We installed an XL15 system in our home - heat pump, air handler, etc. near the end of 2011. 6 mos. after it was installed the fan motor on the air handler died. It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 we're dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler - a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but we're already past 4 days and I don't expect to see them within 5. So, buyer beware that unless the part(s) you need are readily and locally available, you could have a problem. The risk is high and when we replace this system it will NOT be with a Trane system.

My disappointment is toward proprietary parts for replacement, which are several times as expensive as other brands for their replacement parts. Trane parts cost much more to replace; circuit board on outside unit, nearly $400; fan motor on outside unit nearly $1,300 plus labor to replace, compared to $150 for competitor's fan; reversing valve for outside unit nearly $800 plus over $400 labor. The slogan "hard to stop a Trane" applies only if you have unlimited resources for purchasing their expensive replacement parts for repairs, plus labor. The customer becomes "trapped" down the road with Trane's excessively expensive replacement parts.

Trane dealer installed a new Trane heat pump system in Summer 2016. I regret I did not read the reviews online. The system started having problems in winter 2018. Dealer checked it and said the heater in air handler was broken and needed replacement. Then defrost board and fan motor in heat pump were found broken. The condenser coil could also be leaking. I was shocked by all these major issues. Dealer just told me I was unlucky to get a bad system. I was asked to pay about $900 labor fee since only parts are under warranty. In addition, there could be other issues since testing could not be done without replacing the parts. So whole system is a junk.
I complained to dealer manager, then to Trane customer service, then escalated to supervisor. I sent them all the documents they asked for, but never heard from them. Whenever I called them, I was transferred many times and held for one hour, but nothing was done. I emailed them many times, but no reply. People working at Trane just don’t care. Do not buy Trane products, because you will regret.

I built a new house and wanted to pay for a quality airconditioner so I would not have any issues over the next decade. Put in a Trane. Unite broke the first spring and was covered under warranty. 15 months later, the compressor goes out on the same unit. Covered under warranty, but I have to pay over $800.00 for labor. Called trane and they don't care. It's their policy. 15 months or one summer season on the compressor. I would not pay extra for trane again.

I asked a simple question "Do your thermostats have batteries that I need to replace." I kept getting referred to a dealer. I asked for a manager. After 45 minutes I was cut off. I spoke with a lady called Jennifer and Ify. I was told that the manager was on other calls for 45 minutes. At the end I was told that they must end the call. The website does not have a user manual for their thermostats XL624.

I inherited a ComfortLink II thermostat when I bought my house. 4 months ago Trane was very helpful when I called about an error code. Now, I’d like to program and they are totally unhelpful. I have always been a Trane customer but will never again buy a Trane product. If a company’s only answer to someone looking for a manual or help with a question is to call your dealer, that’s a company I will avoid. One star is generous.

Unit operated problem free for first 23 months. Then needed service for bad fan capacitor ($189). Another 23 months later, thermostat lost its programing. $159 later I have a new thermostat. However, I learned that while there's a 10-year warranty on this equipment, I have to pay to "process" the part being returned to Trane PLUS the shipping. TOTAL BS. I still have to pay a trip charge and repair labor costs. Talk about NOT standing behind your workmanship. Any more problems, I'm reviewing again and going to 1-star.
