I’ve always considered this brand/system to be a reliable choice, but my recent experience has been extremely frustrating, especially with the ongoing issue of parts availability. I’ve been trying to get part #COL27748 for a repair, but it’s been backordered for an indefinite amount of time with no clear timeline for when it’ll be back in stock. Given that it’s the middle of summer and my AC is down, this has made living conditions unbearable.

It’s hard to understand how such a critical part can be out of stock for so long, and no one at customer service seems to have an answer. I would expect higher management to take these kinds of issues more seriously, especially when they’re affecting customers' comfort and well-being. The lack of communication and solutions is disappointing. If you’re in need of quick repairs or a part that could be vital to the functioning of your system, be prepared for delays. I hope the company works on addressing this and finding more effective ways to get customers the parts they need on time.

Bought new high-end Trane system in 2020. Since then, have had a leak at the outside unit, replacement of evaporator coils, twice, replacement of the heat strips, and replacement of the run capacitor. Also, all this maintenance has resulted in broken door panels on the air handler unit. This system has been a lemon, and $25,000 later, there's no way Trane deserves even 1 star.

Absolutely do not recommend Texas Coast Heating & AC or Trane products. We’ve been without AC for 12 days in the middle of a Texas summer because they were waiting on Trane to ship a part that was under warranty. That’s bad enough, but then Texas Coast Heating & AC told us it would be another 6 days before they could come install the part—despite knowing how long we had already been without cooling. There was zero sense of urgency or customer care. No loaner unit offered, no updates unless we reached out first, and no real concern for the fact that we were sitting in dangerous heat waiting on service that should’ve been prioritized. When you spend thousands on a name like Trane, you expect reliability and better support. We received neither. Save yourself the frustration—look elsewhere.

I bought a Trane XR 15 5 ton ac unit for my home last year after researching a lot which unit to go with. Recently I noticed that the compressor inside is made by LG Electronics and written as made in Korea. I was totally disappointed with the purchase when I saw that. Well, I am not a tech, but when I researched, I heard about the Climatuff compressors which is made in USA and all. But when I saw this I felt like I got a cheap unit or some. Like I said I am not a tech to say which is good or which is bad or about the durability and efficiency of that compressor. But if I had known about this earlier I would have bought some other brands. I am not sure about the durability, efficiency or performance of the unit compared to one made here.

My Mother in 2020 who was 91 years old at the time had a 5 ton Trane unit installed at her home. In 2022 the unit broke down twice, in 2023 the unit broke down again 2 times and now in 2025 here we are again. This unit was not even 5 years old when this last occurrence happened. Something within this unit has to be causing the evaporator coils to malfunction. Trane has refused to replace the unit stating that the warranty only covers replacing the parts and not the unit itself.

My Mother who is now 96 just had to spend 2 weeks in Florida with no AC as she could not afford to go to a hotel and did not want to leave her home. The dog ended up having to be hospitalized at the ER with pneumonia most likely brought on by a heatstroke. Trane used to have such a good reputation for having the best products but not any longer. Trane is by far now the worst company to ever deal with so buyer beware. Don’t end up in a Trane wreck like we have. I tried to upload photos and a video but was unable to due to error messages.

We paid $13,700 to have a Trane AC installation last July and we haven't experienced any more cooling than we had with our old AC unit. The Trane unit cannot keep our house cool. We have the thermostat set at 75 and the unit can't get below 80.

Bunch of liars. My air went out in the middle of a Las Vegas summer heatwave with serve weather warnings. Our 2 year old brand new unit needed a new part. Thankfully it was under warranty. Our tech called and tried to place the order but the person taking the order failed to follow policy and the order was never placed. The next day I called myself and spoke to a lovely man who helped to it situated and told me the part was being overnight. The next day comes and surprise surprise no part. I can’t call because it’s closed and they are now closed for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday come with no part. I call again Monday and to the surprise of the man assisting me the part was lost and could not be found. 9 hours later he found it but bad news it was never overnighted even though we offered to pay this cost, and would take 3 more days to get to us. I was told to call customer service to see what I could be done.

I call customer service and speak with a manager Elisabeth. I tell her my plethora of issues and tell her I’m seeking compensation because it’s a safety issue and they can’t get the part here faster. She asked if I needed hotel reimbursed or what I was seeking. I don’t ask to be comped my hotel or the portable air units we had to buy just the amount to have the air fixed. Sure not a problem she says just send an invoice. Cool. I do. I get a call over a week later and am told that they can’t help me with the refund I eventually after an hour of incompetence get back to Elisabeth. She admits she told me I’d be refunded but now suddenly policy just changed and they can’t help me even though a manger on a recorded line entered into a verbal contract with me and told me I’d be refunded. Avoid this company like the plague. They don’t give ** about you, your business, customer relations or your safety.

Long story here. About 20 years ago purchased my house I currently reside in. After about 2 years the outside unit started having issues. It was never working as well as I wanted any way. Electric bills were running me over $700 during the summer months. I decided to start looking into having my entire system replaced. While at Home Depot I noticed a booth set up offering free estimates for air conditioning from a supposed Home depot trusted vendor. I set up an appointment and the next week they sent someone to give me an estimate. Turns out he was a Trane dealer. Well my old unit was only a 3 ton unit and I have nearly 3000 sq ft so right off he told me I needed a 5 ton unit. Price back then was about $3500 installed. I asked him about my air handler which is in the attic. He took a look at it and said it was fine and would work well with this 5 ton unit they would install.

I was a bit skeptical being the handler was 26 years old. But, he is the supposed expert so we do as he recommended and have the new 5 ton unit installed. We go through that summer and the temps in the house don't seem to be much better and electric is just as high or even higher. The next spring I call the company to let them know I am not happy at all with the unit. This time they send a new tech out he takes one look at the handler and says there is no way that can handle the 5 ton unit. In fact the fan is literally coming out of it's housing. So, a new quote for a new air handler for $3500 installed. I agree because I knew the stuff in the attic needed replaced.

That Saturday they send a 5 man crew out to install the unit. They arrive at 8am. They are in my attic all day long. tear the old unit out and start trying to get the new unit in. By listening in to their conversation I can tell they haven't a clue on how to do the job. So at 2am ,yes they were here that long they call their supervisor and he comes over. He does a couple things and gets the unit running, but it isn't ready and they will be back the next day. Let's just get to the nitty gritty, for 3 years I had nothing but issues with the air handler. Countless service calls and repeated failures to get it to operate properly. Once a manager came by and found that the main issue was they left the shipping plenum in the unit.

This is just to keep dirt out of the unit and is supposed to be taken out when unit is installed. I had about a 3" gap my air was flowing through. So finally enough is enough they have replaced the computer board and pretty much most the other parts and I told the manager if it wasn't fixed the next day I wanted a new unit installed. Again, this is after 3 years of this stuff. A supervisor came out the next day worked on the unit and got it working. As he was leaving he told me to call him if it quit again. He wasn't gone 10 minutes before unit shut down. I called him immediately and he said he had just called in and ordered a new unit and it would be installed on Saturday. This time two Hispanic gentlemen showed up to install. They literally had the old unit out and the new one in in two hours. Compared to 16 hours for the first one.

The new unit had performed well for about the past 7 years then I got water leaking and dripping through my ceiling. The company I purchased the units from is now out of business I'm sure because they literally sucked at their jobs. Call a new guy and after a bit he determines that they set the drip pan up incorrectly. It is supposed to be an enclosed system and they had it set up ass backwards. Also the front panel on the handler has come completely loose. The plastic tabs have broken off and air was leaking throughout. Piece of crap plastic tabs and the pressure was too much for them. In the meantime the outside unit did go bad after about 10 years so it has already had to be replaced with a different brand. I will never ever buy a Trane product again. So because of Trane in the past 20 years I have had 3 outside units and two air handlers and am expecting to have to buy a new handler soon.

I was a American Standard (same as Trane) dealer for many years before retiring and moving south. Purchased Trane's most efficient heat pump for a very high price but wanted the best for my wife who will outlive me. Also bought 10 yr P&L warranty. First year had many "communication" problems per the thermostat. Dealer could not find anything wrong. I researched internet and found a trane document stating that this unit needed a specific communication upgrade part and wiring. I took it to dealer, who had never seen it, and told him to install it on my unit. Also replaced compressor that had failed while they were working on it and waited many weeks during summer because repl compressor was not in stock.

Now, 4 years later, according to my thermostat (and power bill), the 3rd stage aux heat is running often even though system is set for "cool only" (not auto). No one at Trane will tell me how this could happen! There are many other issues like the extended warranty was not with Trane, it was thru some Texas company and local dealership always bills me extra for "what warranty did not pay".

Trane did send the parts to my local dealer for installation, but they would not cover the labor. Furious Complaint About Trane’s Useless Warranty and Terrible Customer Support. Where do I even begin? I bought a brand new construction home in 2018 that came with Trane HVAC units. You’d think with a name like Trane, you’re buying into quality and longevity. Wrong. Fast forward just seven years—and the **compressor fails. Completely shorted out and needs to be replaced. That alone is bad enough. But here’s where the story goes from bad to infuriating.

Trane touts their “extended parts warranty”—5 years standard, with an additional 5 years if you register your unit. We did EXACTLY that. We called, registered our model and serial number on May 21, 2018, during our final walk-through. We have proof. But guess what? Trane is now refusing to honor it. They shoved the responsibility off to the dealer like it’s not their problem.

Here’s the exact nonsense I received from Anamoah Mends, Senior Escalations Specialist at Trane/American Standard Residential: “We have no record of you registering the equipment. If you are claiming your dealer was supposed to register your equipment based on your contract with them or conversations with them, you may want to talk to them about covering this part cost for you.”

So I asked—do you even stand behind your own dealers? His response? "We stand behind our product by offering a warranty and at this time your warranty has expired. The dealer is an independent business which we don't own or operate." Unbelievable. So not only does Trane make a product that fails in seven years, but they also refuse to honor a warranty we diligently followed through on. They *don’t* stand behind their dealers. They don’t stand behind their own brand. And they definitely don’t stand behind the customer.

To add insult to injury, when I asked about replacement options, they tried to push me into buying a whole new system—with some nonsense about loyalty—because of changes in Freon regulations. They claim they can’t get the part easily because of the older refrigerant. Seriously? It’s been seven years. That’s all. Not twenty. Not thirty. Seven.

This entire experience has been beyond frustrating. Trane has shown a complete lack of accountability, failed customer service, and a product that doesn’t even last a decade. I regret ever trusting this brand, and I’ll make sure everyone I know hears exactly how little Trane cares once they’ve taken your money. Final repair = $3,989.70 for Compressor and capacitor replacement

I purchased two American Standard hvac units in Dec 2023. My smaller 2 ton unit has not work correctly since it was installed. My wife won’t even sit upstairs when unit is running because it blows cold air when the second of two heat trips come on. One heat strip really warms up the room. When second heat strip comes on, the air coming out of vent is colder, 10% colder, which means we have to “re-heat” the room after cold air stops blowing. After trying to fix, I’m now told unit is operating properly. I continue to ask how can it be working properly when it blows cold air? “It’s defrosting when second heat strip comes on” is what I was told, even though unit says heating not defrosting. Apparently, Trane believes your hvac should blow colder air when two heat strips run vice one heat strip running. It is beyond frustrating.

Trane would not answer any questions and would refer me back to Ideal even though the company had to made approximately 12 visit to get the system working correctly. The unit is a 2 stage unit and we could not get it into stage 2 and Trane support was no help. After 4 different companies reviewed the system, we finally got it right and into stage 2. The unit still struggles to heat and cool the home. It actually does worse than the unit that was install in 2003. The unit might take 12 hours heat or cool a space by 3 degrees. The tech guys changed parts until they hit on the culprit which evidently was a pressure switch. The first part they changed was the gas valve but it didn't fix things, however, I paid over $1000 for that one part which obviously wasn't faulty. I have asked Trane to test my original valve only to be ignored. The gas valve is made by Honeywell and they have also ignored my request to test the valve. Based on this experience I would not recommend Trane as a source.

It died in December of 2025 at the ripe old age of 2.5 years old, The motor/compressor totally failed. Trane's two year warranty on the heat pump had expired, and Trane would accept no responsibility for the failed unit, nor would they be of any assistance financially for the repairs. Fortunately, we did buy an extended 10 year warranty when the unit was purchased so the cost of the replacement motor/compressor was covered, but not the cost of labor or recharging the unit (approximately $1,000). Trane claims a 12 to 15 year life for their units, but do not stand behind their unit when it dies after 2 1/2 years.

When our unit turned 1 yrs old, the Evaporator coil developed a leak. Beware that the warranty ONLY covers parts NOT labor NOR Freon which is the most costly part! My out of pocket cost even though “it’s under warranty” was $1,000 and this was a brand new unit. Now the A/C unit is 4 yrs old and the evaporator coil on that same unit is leaking AGAIN. Now the labor and Freon will cost me $1,600 when this unit is still under warranty! Remember- ONLY PARTS ARE COVERED. I contacted 2 other A/C men to try to get better labor pricing but those 2 men stopped servicing Trane because “they are NOT as good as they used to be and Trane is hard to deal with.” The Trane technician who came today told me he has changed more evaporator coils on Trane units than he can keep track of.

Every technician I called today said Trane has many problems now- something about the material they are now using on their coils isn’t good. I wish I had bought a non brand AC because I could have saved a lot of money and I promise that it would be more reliable than Trane!! Trane has become a TRANE WRECK!!! This definitely made the property more desirable of a purchase as well as more expensive. Had the ac unit serviced and maintained by licensed Trane technicians and followed all of their maintenance requirements/recommendations. After two years of consistent problems with the unit it turns out the air handler was defective. The same company that installed the unit for the previous owners had been doing the maintenance. They informed me that the repairs were covered under the 10 year warranty. They handle the warranty work for Trane and when they called about the defective unit they told them that the unit was no longer under warranty because the current owners (me) never called to transfer the warranty.

Turns out Trane keeps track of when a property transfers ownership for the sole purpose on not honoring their warranties. If the warranty is not transferred within 90 days the warranty is no longer valid. The first thing Trane does when they have a warranty issue is to see if the house has transferred ownership to see if they can remove themselves from their responsibility. They don’t consider the age of the unit which is know by the serial number. It’s a convenient loophole which totally absolves them of their responsibility to honor their guarantee. They literally suggest to take action against the previous owners or real estate company for not informing us to register the unit. I unknowingly missed the 90-day transfer window as I did not work with a realtor and purchased the house through a leasing agency. Please be aware that the system is only 6 years old, and the warranty is for 10 years. According to Trane, the warranty reverted to a 5-year warranty because the transfer was not submitted in time.

I was shocked and frustrated by this news, as I had no knowledge of the warranty when I purchased the house. Trane has forced me into a very difficult situation where I will have to pay thousands of dollars to repair or replace the system because of this loophole. Trane is taking advantage of me because at no point was, I made aware of the warranty although they knew my exact date of closing and that the home was under new ownership. I know this because they were able to pull up all those details when I called the warranty department.

I am now faced with the difficult decision of having my wife and 3 young children in a cold house (downstairs) or paying to replace a second HVAC system in less than a year. Yes, I replaced my other system a few months ago but that system was 20 years old so had anticipated it going out of commission. I am extremely disappointed in the lack of transparency and communication from Trane as well as their lack of empathy. I would caution anyone considering using this company to be aware of their policies and make sure that all warranties are transferred properly when purchasing a home.

Then within another year the coil had a leak which they would not cover at all. That cost over $2000. Had some other minor breakdowns which cost about $ 1000. Called Trane authorized dealer that sold/installed unit. Took him 11 months to come back out. No heat during winter/ no AC during summer, 11 months no service, no show. Finally comes out and tells me unit has defective coil, will have to be replaced. Repair man tore brand new AC unit apart in yard. Brand new in pieces, 30 days of service, now scattered across yard. He was not happy, and neither was I.

Fast forward 90 days, and I hear someone drilling on my AC unit outside. I go to window, but can see no one. I walk outside to find 2 new holes drilled into side of HVAC unit... Exactly 9 11/16 from edge... Exactly where new coil had just been replaced!!! Over $5,000 for a Trane unit that operated less than 100 days total. Then was sabotaged by someone who knew exactly where the coil is sitting behind panel cover. Called 1800Trane and asked if installer had been reimbursed for labor, on the warranty claim on the defective unit. Or did he not get paid for work, and now wants revenge. Trane would not answer. I am writing this review to share my experience with Trane AC units and the challenges I have faced in resolving ongoing issues with them. Over the past two years, I have encountered significant problems with both my upstairs and downstairs Trane AC units. These failures occurred within a relatively short time frame, which has been both frustrating and costly.

Despite engaging multiple AC service companies to address these issues, the root causes remain unresolved. The latest attempt involved switching to a new AC service company, in hopes that a different approach might yield better results. They replaced the thermostat and transformer in an effort to fix the problems. Unfortunately, the issues persisted even after these changes, leading me to suspect that there might be inherent issues with the Trane AC units themselves. This experience has been disappointing, particularly considering the reputation and supposed reliability of Trane products. I had expected a higher standard of durability and performance. I hope this review serves as a useful account for others considering Trane AC units.

Sure they will provide parts under warranty but NOT LABOR. And the dealer system is set up to gouge for labor costs. As an aside, most HVAC service companies pay commissions to service techs if they sell you more repairs or even a new system. How many times have I hear "You're better off replacing the whole system because it's more economical"? More economical artificially by charging outrageous rates for repairs. In the first 3 years of its life, this particular system has had two failed indoor coils, two failed thermal expansion valves, and filed lineset. Trane's motto is "You can't stop a Trane." My new Trane XV 18 heat pump cools well but has significant problems.

    1. The sound dampening cover over the condenser fell off inside the outside unit. Trane replaced it with an inferior product. I just had the old cover removed and did not replace it. The unit is pretty quiet without the cover.

    2. The aluminum spine fins circling. The outside unit were crumpled outward in three places, and the fins were crushed in several places. I have been told this is common with train heat pumps because the aluminum is so delicate.

    3. Although this 18 SEER unit is replacing a two speed heat pump that was installed in 2006, my electric bill is still the same. I have been told that that is often the case where I live.

    4. There is no corporate Trane customer support. When I called their number they told me two things. One, I had to deal with my local dealer only. Two, although Trane lists these dealers as authorized Trane installers on their website, they really are any dealers who pay them to be on their website. The fact that these dealers are listed on the website is no recommendation from Trane. Lucky for me, the dealer I selected from their webpage, is an honest and confident business.

    5. I have been told that Trane repair parts are all back ordered. After I looked into my outside unit and found the sound dampener cover fallen apart and lying askew inside the unit, Trane replaced it with something else that was much cheaper. I wound up just removing the sound dampener altogether. I’ve heard stories of people going for weeks without any air conditioning because they’re waiting for a part from trane that never comes.

So all things considered, especially the cost, I would never buy another Trane heat pump again as long as I live.

The system is supposed to be "Energy Star" rated for power consumption. Much to my dismay, I found that the unit is using over 125 watts while in the "off" or "stand by" mode. Apparently there is a heater within the heat pump compressor that is supposed to keep the compressor warm. Well, I live in FL and the damn thing is heating when the outdoor temp is over 80-90 degrees! The only way to stop the wasteful power consumption is to turn off the main power at the circuit breaker panel. The "off" setting on the thermostat does not control the excess power consumption.

I called TRANE's 1-800 "Customer Service" number and that was an incredible waste of time. They have trained monkeys reading from a script and after asking about twenty questions of me, they couldn't answer any one of my questions. They claim that they have no ability to transfer my call to anyone with the ability to answer my questions. If you complain long enough and hard enough, they will escalate the complaint and assign it a number. Some other trained monkey will reach out thru email and give you the runaround. They tell you to call and give the same 1-800 number which when called they will not connect you with the customer service agent which was assigned the complaint. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. The IRS has better customer service than TRANE.

The dealer that installed my system also told me that he got the same runaround from TRANE technical support. I wish that I had read the complaints here and on the BBB website. This Trane ain’t bound for glory… Winter has arrived and we are faced, yet again, with the annual failure of our Trane heat pump. After a myriad of technician visits and varied diagnostic attempts over the years, we are still no closer to stabilizing this machine. We moved into our newly constructed home in April 2016. Our contractor put the installation of the heating and cooling system out to bid and selected a Trane installer because of the reputation and reliability of the Trane brand. We were happy to pay a premium for the system (Heat pump model #4TWR4060E1000BA; Air handler model #TAM7B0C60H51SCB) in the hopes we would have many worry free years of service. Then the nightmare began. Early in January 2017 the heat pump faulted when temperatures dropped into single digits. The original installer made three service calls to diagnose the problem.

First visit addressed a wiring problem with the furnace. Second visit addressed heat pump fault issue. Error code was defrost lockout. They ordered a new control board indicating they had seen this, resolve the problem at other locations. On the third service call, they replaced the control board. They also implied that a newer board was being released in the near future and they would replace ours when it was available (never happened).

When the heat pump faulted again, the original installer would not come out on a warranty service call. As it turned out, they never registered the original warranty within the allotted time and did not instruct us to do so. When we asked them to contact Trane to get the warranty back dated, they said Trane would not work with them. At that point, we were basically hosed and had lost our warranty advantage. We then talked with the original installer on the phone who walked us through the reset procedures although the problem continued. We crippled thought that winter on the emergency heat setting. The issues remained unresolved since the problem could not be duplicated outside of winter conditions. There were no issues during the summer as our use of air conditioning was infrequent.

The winter of 2017/18 was mild so the lockout problem did not surface. The winter of 2018/19 saw the defrost lockout problems begin again. The system had to be reset several times as local technicians attempted to diagnose the problem. Again, we had to rely on the emergency heat setting and our electric bills skyrocketed. We scheduled a service call in October 2019 in an attempt to head off the winter faulting problems. The technician found that a J-2 jumper on the defrost board was not clipped so he clipped it. He indicated the purpose of the jumper was to allow higher temperature of OD coil for defrosting in low ambient temperatures with high humidity. During the same call, he looked for other operating limits and found none. He indicated that under regular operating conditions the defrost lockout should not happen until around -7 degrees. Service call was $139.32.

In January 3-13, 2020 – three service calls were made. The heat pump started blowing the breaker and the furnace was running continually. It was noted that breaker problem did not happen until after the jumper was clipped. The Trane certified service technician discovered that the heat pump compressor had failed (OHMed out the compressor and found the windings had failed). The compressor was replaced and system reset. Also looked at the thermostat and made some adjustments to installer settings and added refrigerant to the heat pump. Invoiced $637.89 for the three calls.

July/August 2022. Scheduled maintenance service call. First technician diagnosed a needed part replacement but did not order part or schedule a return visit. Owner followed up and examined the heat pump and said no parts were required and we were good to go. November 11, 2022. Heat pump faulted again. Called a different repair service provider and they reset power to get the heat pump to come on and it began heating. He said the unit had locked out due to too many defrosts in a cycle. Reset power again and added refrigerant although it faulted again shortly thereafter. His diagnosis was that the unit needs a new outdoor TXV and quoted $1900 for the repair. We are still operating on the emergency heat setting and expecting a huge electric bill for this month. Invoiced $341.14 for the service call and repair quote.

December 7, 2022. Scheduled a second opinion for the heat pump faulting problems. This owner/technician reviewed past history of the unit and the multiple attempts to repair it without finding a permanent solution. Said he would not attempt the suggested $1900 repair because there was no guarantee that it would be successful. Recommended replacing the entire system. As of December 7, 2022 our out of pocket expenses have been $1118.35 and we are looking at an additional $1900 repair or many thousands for the system to be replaced. In addition, we are paying unnecessarily high electric bills that this system was supposed to mitigate.

So, the nightmare continues. We have our house temperature set at 63 degrees and live with layers of clothing, extra blankets and strategically placed space heaters. If there were a lemon law for heat pumps, ours would certainly qualify. In a perfect world, Trane should come to our rescue and at least replace the heat pump or, better yet, the entire system to end this eternal nightmare. Trane – hope you are listening and will find an expedient resolution for us.

Trane XV20i serial number 19421SYA1F. Bought the system through Airmasters of Tampa Bay in October 2019. Came highly recommended for longevity, robustness, energy efficiency, etc. History of malfunctions not including vent sweating which we kind of got under control by redesigning the duct work adding a second zone at cost of $10,000.

    1. Thermostat computer failed in 2020 and was replaced under warranty.

    2. Circuit breaker at air handler got tripped for unknown reasons in 2021. Airmasters reset it and asked for an electrician to check it out. Electrician found nothing wrong. Repeated requests to replace the breaker were not followed. So far issue did not return.

    3. System stooped cooling, Tech replaced 3 pounds of refrigerant ($240) and mentioned a possible leak. four weeks later system started heating. A leak was detected in the outside condenser. However, the main reason was a software failure. Software got updated, condenser replaced under warranty. Cost: $2000 for labor.

A few weeks later system started heating again. This time a faulty solenoid was suspected and tech set system to cooling so it would remain functioning. It took ten days before he came back with a wiring harness because the Tran rep refused to approve the solenoid replacement. System work for one week before starting to heat again. Solenoid replaced and unit hosed down for cleaning when outside circuit breaker got tripped and system stopped working. Drive board got fried. Replacement may take up to three week. I live in Florida and that is simply unacceptable.

Escalated the case with Trane on 11.7. Case number **. Was told by Airmasters on 11.10. that there is a backlog of 2500 (!!) of those drive boards but I am at the front of the line. That can only mean there is a something fundamentally wrong re manufacturing and quality control, perhaps design. All in all I am very dissatisfied with this system and wish I had opted for less complex system with less electronics but higher reliability. I am exploring options to have system replaced with a less complex system. Very, very unhappy.

We still have 5 years on our warranty but Trane refuses to replace the air handler with another model or even pay the labor for a $700 install of a secondarily drain pan which, because it's necessary, proves this is a bad model. Apparently it only takes a two year old evaporator coil that leaks to stop a TRANE. Two years after new install on new construction the evaporator is leaking. Not in the soldered joints or fittings, right in the middle of the coil. Coil is available at no cost to us but the labor is $2500. This is unacceptable, I have tried to contact Trane for possible labor allowance with no luck so far. This type of thing is costly, to consumer and the HVAC company that installs, this poor quality makes the installer look bad to most consumers who would assume fault is theirs and the additional charges for labor to fix a manufacturer's defect. So sad, is Trane purchasing coils from China? No respectful American company would do this to fellow Americans. Avoid Trane, an American Standard company. Do your research and determine which manufacturers have the least callbacks before you make such an investment.

Just recently, it was discovered that one of replaced evaporator coils failed, just 7 years after replacement. My units are 12 years old now and past the 10 year warranty.

I contacted Trane to see if they would consider doing something since their website states that evaporator coils should last 10 to 15 years but they declined any help. The fact that I experienced 3 evaporator coil failures within a 12 year period, a red flag has gone up. Trane no longer offers a 10 year LABOR warranty, only 10 year parts/1 year labor on their AC units. Labor costs can run quite high if you have work done after their ONE year labor warranty runs out. BE AWARE OF THIS AND DO YOUR RESEARCH OF COMPLAINTS PRIOR TO BUYING TRANE.

My American Standard air conditioner went out on Labor Day 2022. 15 days later I still have no resolution and Trane can't even tell me when I will have a solution. Error codes 159.02 and 159.03 are communications errors allegedly dealing with harnesses, which are a few short wires and plastic plugs on a motherboard. Each harness costs $250 -- manufacturing cost 25 cents. The local Trane dealer did not have the harnesses in stock and refused to give me the ones in the units they had in stock, meaning a 5-day wait till the harnesses showed up. Technician replaced the motherboard and both harnesses, the a/c worked for about an hour before the same error codes popped up and the machine died.

Local Trane dealer would not file a warranty claim, I had to do it myself. I filed it, two days later they came back and said they needed different information which they could have asked me for in the first place. Another 5 day delay, I call Trane and they can't tell me when my claim will be processed. I live in hot, humid Fort Lauderdale, 15 days without an a/c in the summer -- if they have a lot of claims they should a) make better equipment; and b) hire more staff to handle the claims. The answer is obvious: their diagnostic is wrong because the error codes being displayed aren't the real problem or the harnesses would have fixed the problem. They don't know what the problem part is, and there are no parts in stock anyway.

The unit is under warranty: REPLACE THE UNIT. Why do I have to wait for them to get through a backlog of warranty claims when what they need to do is obvious. It can't be hard to tell me how long it will take to process the claim. I would NEVER buy a Trane or American Standard air conditioner again. Appalling quality, abysmal customer service.

I purchased a complete Trane AC & air handler in 4-2017 for $5500. I have had nothing but problems ever since then. Every year something went out on it, and every certified Trane AC technician I had come out said they have seen nothing but problems with the residential Trane units. One even commented he "cringed" when he saw it was a Trane.

The Trane outside AC unit completely died 9-2022, it's coil was leaking & was shot, and the compressor was badly rusted (I was told it would die within the next year). I had all my paperwork saying Trane has a 10 year warranty, my original invoice, permit, etc. The company that installed has gone out of business, but the new AC company I was using said it is out of warranty, it was not registered. If you register your unit, the base 5 year warranty (parts only) gets extended to 10 years parts only. I called Trane and I explained that was never relayed to me - Trane essentially said "Too Bad", they would do nothing.

The local AC company told me they could fix the coil for $3700 or put in a new outside unit for $4500 (and the new outside unit would only have a 5 year warranty) - but neither would be available for 6 weeks, there is a big backorder on the coils since so many of them need replacing. Why would I ever put in another system that barely made it 5 years with multiple breakdowns and who the technicians have told me to stay away from?

Take a look online, Tranes are known to have problems with their coils and there has already been 1 class action lawsuit against them. My old AC (Payne) lasted 20 years in the Florida heat, the Trane made it 5. I post this to hopefully help someone make an educated decision as to whether or not to install a residential Trane AC system.

If this company is not going to fix or accommodate their customers' basic needs of having a cool house in the middle of summer in Arizona, then what is the point of paying for a unit that is not paired with good customer service. ACR did a diagnostic check and found the system had a defective evaporator coil which slowly leaked out all refrigerant (8 lbs.) over time causing the air conditioning unit to completely shut down. The evaporator coil was covered under Warranty. I have spent $1,722.00 out of pocket to get the system up and working. The warranty covers parts but does not cover the refrigerant even though, the refrigerant is the key part of the air conditioning unit. The refrigerant cost was $1,400.00 of my Overall cost.

I personally feel this defect has been there from the beginning for this to have happened so quickly. I am asking Trane get with ACR and do what they know is right. I also have a question for Trane, are there any environmental/health issues I should be concerned about for my family as this air was circulating through my home ventilation system while this leakage was occurring? While the evaporator coil is covered under the existing warranty, the refrigerant and the shipping costs for the parts were not. The defective part is what caused the complete loss of the refrigerant and to replace it alone was $1400.

What you can hear is just a soft whisper when cool air starts breezing in. I installed one, and 2 years later another one - both Trane. I have two floors, each floor is regulated by one unit. One unit is already 5 years old, another is 2, I signed up for a maintenance service plan, so far no problems at all. Trane seems to be an expensive brand, but I spoke with installers and they say that it is worth the money. I would recommend it - at least to consider - when replacing a unit for a new one.

I purchased a Trane Heat Pump - Air Handler system 3 years ago. I replaced my unit with a brand-new Trane system in Feb 2019, 3 ton, model #4TWR4036G1000AA .. Today, Apr 19, 2022, I had to replace the compressor and associated parts because of a compressor failure. First of all, I would have never expected such a premature failure like this, though the warranty covers parts, the associated labor, refrigerant, etc was nearly $3000, a very large percentage of the new costs paid 3 years ago. Very disappointed with the poor reliability, will certainly impact my decisions in the future.

I just read 2 recent reviews that are my story!!! Omg! If someone wants to do a class action against Trane for this recurrent issue, I am in. The coil is defective and leaked coolant. The unit had been shutting down hard and sounded like it was going to explode. I also had a $500 electric bill. My HVAC company came out Saturday and put 10lbs!!! of Freon in a 14lb system. They had to order the warrantied coil. They informed me the labor and Freon would be around $1150!!!

The manager reduced the price to $850, and told me to call Trane as they knew Trane worked with residential owners. Well, if you got the rep I did, I have no idea how you get anything from them. Christina was no help. She kept telling me that Freon is from a 3rd party vendor. I don’t want Freon from Trane. She also said Trane is only responsible for the part, not the Freon one or labor. But if you just admitted responsibility for the functioning of the part that keeps coolant in, your part didn’t do what you said it is supposed to. So, I paid $10000 for the unit which we are in our last year paying for. I paid $200 for Freon from a previous HVAC visit suspecting a leak with dye and found nothing. Then, the $850 I am paying tomorrow, right before our next winter event in Texas, plus the increase in the electric bill last month and most likely this month.

When the tech came out Saturday at 9am, the system had gone into emergency heat on 14!!! occasions. So, I will be lucky if the electric bill is only $500 this next month. If your part fails that is responsible for keeping the coolant flowing through the unit, you are responsible Trane, for the cause and effect from that failed part which is you owing me and the others on this feed money for an obvious issue with the coil!

My understanding of the failure (with my approximately two-year old system) was caused by a defect that should have been caught via quality control procedures at the factory where it was assembled. I am told that a system this young should not have had this type of coil issue and mine did because inadequate solder (or similar compound) was used when the coil was factory assembled. This defect was obvious to the service technician who repaired the system who also believed Trane would acknowledge and stand behind this as the manufacturing defect it was.

I tried to work this out with Trane and asked them to reimburse me for labor and $400+ coolant - total bill was $1,074. They offered me $400. In a communication from a company representative, it was stated, "Please be aware that our warranty covers the functional parts that we manufacture because we are responsible for the quality of those parts...." and I must take issue with this statement as false.

Noticed one of our units wasn't heating the way it should. After a Trane authorized repair center showed up and diagnosed the problem, they said the coil was leaking. All of the refrigerant was apparently gone, and it needs a new coil. Now this is deep inside the unit apparently (not like it got bumped), and while the warranty covers the part the labor and new refrigerant alone is almost $2000.00. This is ridiculous for a unit that is only 4 and a half years old.

As the summer heat started, we noticed the air conditioners were not working well. We contacted the warranty company for service. After a couple of checks including freon refill, they finally found out that there is a leakage in the main unit and the evaporator coil needs to be replaced.

They said the unit is still under manufacturer warranty and asked me to directly contact Trane to receive a new evaporator coil and the warranty company agreed to follow up with the labor. I reached out to Trane but they said my warranty expired because I had to contact them within 90 days of purchasing the house. I have explained to them that I was never informed by anyone about this requirement, and I even did not know the brand of my air conditioner until there was a problem with it, but they did not accept. That is totally unreasonable, how can a home buyer know about this rule? This is just a way for them to get away from their warranty duties. I hope this review will help some people to know about this rule so that they can reach out to transfer the warranty within 90 days.

2 years ago when it was time to replace the 3 units that cool my house, my AC guy recommended Trane. Unfortunately, since I had a 17 year relationship with the company, I trusted their recommendation to replace with Trane. What a mistake. Dropped that company. On the evening of installation, I lost air conditioning to one section of my home. The leaking coil/ freon, etc.etc. as listed in many Trane complaints on the site. The issue happened time and again and after my nearly $20,000 investment, I went weeks without air. Now another unit is broken, something about a communication board replacement and parts that are not readily available. We are estimating a week or whenever.. to have air conditioning on my second floor. Please know I am in Florida and AC is very important.

When I put my system in 2 years ago, it was my hope that ongoing air conditioning issues would be minimized. Not with Trane products. I have had issues roughly every 3 months since I put them in. Today, I am debating ripping out all 3 units after 2 years and going with another brand, Carrier perhaps. I will look into any possible legal means to hold the company accountable. I don't have any hope that I will have any luck. I cannot continue to take time off of work to meet with my air conditioning service company to fix my Trane products. Also, I am a couple of thousand in on uncovered repairs. Given what I read in Trane reviews online and my own Trane experience. DO NOT BUY TRANE PRODUCTS!

Both repairs were due to electric fan motor failures and costs were well over a thousand dollars each time.. Now the unit is 2 yrs out of warranty and developed a leak at the drain due to the drip pan in the bottom of the unit being completely rotted out.. And what makes matters worse is that when Island air conditioning in Delray Beach FL installed this unit, they didn't bother to connect the drainage system properly resulting in inside ceiling damage.. I had my Trane XL90 furnace installed by a Trane authorized HVAC dealer many years ago. I bought it specifically because they had (still say they do) a lifetime guarantee on the heat exchanger. Something that I knew at the time was a weak point for many brands. Years later my furnace started to fail and I'm certain now that I was experiencing high levels of CO in my house. (damp windows) I attempted to patch/seal the holes at the end of the bottom of the heat exchangers. It is a cooler area of the heat exchanger and I imagine condensation was an issues that ultimately created holes and furnace ignition issues from the improper drafting of exhaust gases into my house. For almost two years, I tried to keep it working. I complained to the dealer more than once and they said to contact Trane. I did!

On SIX occasions, they basically denied having to do anything for me. They instructed me to contact the dealer and they could likely get me a $250 rebate off a new one. But these crooks know that this rebate is the same as what they were offering everyone. The heat exchanger came with a lifetime warranty, but labor was not included. They kept giving me the excuse that this heat exchanger was no longer available. True, but I bought a lifetime warranty, not a whenever the parts run out warranty. Typically a heat exchanger is an $800 to $900 part; however, they refused to compensate me or offer that amount as a rebate/credit off the new XL90 or a similar models. I ended up with a very nice and efficient Goodman. In talking to several other people about Goodman, they always seem to honor their warranties. TRANE WILL NOT! They are LIARS ! I need two new units and am considering Carrier or another brand. What is worse is that the customer service reps are terrible. One last comment. Before you spend a lot of money on a new HVAC system you should air seal your attic. Remove the insulation and seal every hole and joint where the drywall touches wood. Do not add insulation on top of existing insulation in a leaking attic. I spent an extra $2k to do this and replaced the cardboard rafter baffles with corrugated plastic ones from DCI. They are great and brown recluse spiders don’t like plastic. The result is that my cooling costs was reduced by at least 30%. The existing HVAC system now runs less and should help reduce the maintenance cost of a new system.

Updated on 06/28/2021: I have concluded that their customer service and response to customer needs is terrible. I recommend not using this company or product. Through my experience, I feel they do not live by their motto. Their new motto should be, "Nothing breaks or cost your money like a Trane". I have the XV95, and it was installed in 2010. It ran wonderfully for the first 8 years. The heat exchanger failed in 2019. It was replaced by Horizon Services under warranty. It failed again in 2021. This is a part that has a 20-year warranty. Failing in two years shows a lack of commitment to quality and reliability. My warranty expired in 2020. Now I am on the hook for the repairs of close to 4000 dollars. Trane just provides the part to the installer.

If it breaks in 2 years and a certified installer does the work, then Trane should assist with the cost of repairing this unreliable equipment again. I tried to get it resolved, but no one wanted to try and address the issue. Their only response was Trane not paying for that. A Customer Service Escalation (Senior) was not helpful at all in resolving this problem. I sent her 49 pages of documentation as requested. I called her 4 times and had several emails sent. She failed to take the time to call me back or show any concern for the customer. I had to track her down, and the first thing out of her mouth was, "I told you Trane was not going to pay for anything." No concern, just a lot of attitude. I did not spend all this time and energy investing in this situation to get this type of response. It's hard to stop a Trane is their motto....to me, I will forever think of Trane as It is hard to count on anything Trane. An electric fan would have been more reliable and less stressful than dealing with Trane equipment or its employees.

Original Review: Here we go again. Horizon Services recommended we buy a Trane XV95 in 2010. They installed the furnace, AC, and automatic flutes. The whole setup was close to 20,000. Install and service, I have no complaints. In 2019 I needed the heat exchanger replaced. Horizon covered it under the original warranty. Horizon now does not sell Trane anymore because they say that Trane is not doing anything about the continued heat exchanger issues. Here it is 2021 and after only 2 years of being installed the heat exchanger is cracked again. Horizon stood behind the install warranty on the last 10 years of the unit. Since it is not an install issue, I now will have to pay for the install when Trane sends the part. Trane should cover all costs because this is the second fail in 11 years on a part that has a limited lifetime warranty. Not lasting nowhere near 20 years. Two years can stop a Trane.

Where is the support around standing behind the motto and making it right for the customer? My first Trane that was put in when the house was built only lasted from 2001 to 2010. Again nowhere near a 15-year life span. Called Trane customer service and receive virtually zero help to resolve this issue. Went to Tier 1 then Tier 2 trying to get Trane to cover labor costs and install because this part did not last 2 years. Very unhappy with the quality of Trane units and support in the last 17 years. When it is finally time to replace, why would I ever trust a Trane again? I bought it because of their, name reputation and supposed quality of the equipment. I need to repost this review about my Trane experience everywhere on the internet.

There has to be a lemon law, a firm to look into this as a class-action lawsuit, news outlets should pick it up, Trane needs to do a recalls, or something to help customers still dealing with heat exchanger issues. I cannot be the only one in Delaware with this issue. I bet this exists across the nation with thousands of people having this issue. I asked for a free replacement when my unit was 8 years old since Horizon said Trane knows about this problem. I followed their recommendation because it was the best in 2010. I need the problem fixed. I don't want to deal with heat exchanger cracks every 2 years. If I get a part, I am on the hook for thousands of dollars for an install. That is not right or fair.

I need someone to help me with this again. This is unacceptable on a unit that should last 18-20 years. Two heat exchangers in the last 11 years and now I am getting stuck with the cost of labor and the install. Where are you Trane? A faithful customer needs you... Extremely, dissatisfied, disheartened, and disappointed.

Trane is not popular with repair people. Trane told our AC contractor it would be about 4-6 weeks to get the replacement part. It's been five weeks and my AC contractor calls Trane every day. He said that he has another customer that has been waiting on parts for his Trane AC for over two months. Our contractor has now started calling Trane every day and gets the same answer, "We'll call you when it comes in" with no other details. Contractor stated that when a part does come in he sends someone to pick it up. They call inside when they get there, can't speak to anyone and typically waits 1-2+ hours for a Trane employee to come out with the part. This is after Trane called and said the part is here. I'll neve buy a Trane again. The customer service is the worst I've ever experienced from any company I've dealt with.

Consumer's Original Complaint: No resolution for: Brand new installed on 20 Aug 2020, Trane FURNACE (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) making unacceptable unhealthy noise. We have a Brand New - installed on 20 Aug 2020 - Trane FURNACE (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) making unacceptable unhealthy noise from the Blower Motor and Wheel. Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **.

We contacted the Local Authorized Installer the day after the installation to complain about the noise. On 3 September we sent an e-mail with a formal complaint about the noise. We have had the Local Authorized Installer visit twice and make adjustments to the furnace and adjust the fan speed (lower the speed). It is now set at the lowest possible speed, which as expected, does not adequately cool or heat our house - the system is on all day to achieve a comfortable level of 73 degrees.

On 11 September, the 2nd visit, the 2 person service team agreed that the noise coming from the Furnace Blower was "not normal" and sounded like metal on metal. They reported that information to the Local Authorized Installer Company Headquarters. On 21 September, the Local Authorized Installer informed me that they had ordered a replacement "Motor and Blower Wheel". On 23 September the Installer Company confirmed the parts ordered. Today, 29 September, the Local Authorized Installer stated that they would not install new/replacement parts because Trane Corp HQ would not give them credit for the parts or for a replacement system. Moreover, Trane Corp HQ told the Local Authorized Installer that the noise was "normal" for this model.

We live in a split-level house. The Furnace is in the center of the lower level. The metallic sound travels straight up the intake vents and can be heard in all three bedrooms. I measured the sound on app "Sound Meter" with results of Decibel (DB) ratings of: Average 74 BD, Max 76 DB when the Air-Conditioner is on (Cooling) and Average 65BD, Max 69 DB with just the fan blowing.

Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **: I called Trane Corp customer service department 3 times to request for the Specifications on the Sound Ratings for this model. That office informed me that they do not have that information as they do not have any technical information. I am a senior citizen and a disabled veteran. The noise has elevated my blood pressure and has caused my tinnitus (ringing in the ears) to be a continual headache. No resolution in unacceptable. Please help.

    Trane Corp Response:

    1. Trane Corp refused to honor the warranty to replace the Trane Furnace (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) with - any other model that has an acceptable noise level.
    2. Trane Corp refused to publicize the sound ratings of all of their products, even when specifically requested as a matter of public health.

    3. Trane Corp refused to provide basic technical specifications - so that customers can make an informed purchase.

The Trane web page provides the same information but does not include a form or a means of payment. I understand that the registration was processed on September 2, 2020. In 2017, I moved into a brand new home equipped with a Trane HVAC unit. Approximately 30 months later, the air conditioner failed. I was told that the condensing unit, a major part that normally lasts for ten years or more, was defective; that although the part itself was under warranty, the installation labor and coolant replacement were not and that a repair would cost close to $2,000. I was also informed that Trane and their dealers knew they had a problem with their condensers beginning in 2014 but continued to sell them and, as far as I know, based upon the experiences of others, still do. When the problem first occurred, Trane reimbursed the customers affected but eventually stopped the practice when it became apparent that there were so many claims.

Like many of the reviewers, I was given the runaround by Trane customer service. Each time I called, I was asked to repeat all the information I had already provided as though the call was my first. I was assured over and over again that my case was under review but it was never resolved. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that it was not possible. In short, my experience with Trane customer service was probably the worst experience I have ever had with any company. There are many HVAC brands worthy of consideration. Trane is not one of them.

I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying anything by the Trane brand. Here's why: I purchased 2 new systems from them thinking I was getting "better equipment", but that could not be further from the truth. Keep in mind that I live in Arizona where the temps are 115º plus. Now, the first issue is that one of the 2 units went out immediately. It broke when I was out of town forcing the heater to run indefinitely, even though it was set to cool only. As it turns out, they cover all of their wring with peanut oil!?? Well guess what, mice LOVE peanut oil and they were attracted to that lovely taste (probably why we set traps with peanut butter and it works so well). This to me is just simply a bad business decision. Needless to say, everything in our room melted as the temperature was kept above 118 for 3 days straight, while we were gone.

Now none of our drawers close correctly, our doors do not shut right and all of the oil in our wood furniture is gone. On to #2! Oh, Keep in mind, these are less than 1 year old! I am still paying $20,000.00 for these two "lovely" babies!! This time the coil went out, causing us to live in the peak AZ heat for almost a week. I was told that this is uncommon for any brand. I guess we are just lucky. #3 This time the control module went out in the air handler! I was told this never happens unless it is just a bad unit... Again, I guess I am just lucky. #4 This time the Thermostat broke. This is their proprietary thermostat, so their own technology on that thing. Good luck with these things, they have some convoluted method of resetting and joining the network or adopting to your account that is a real treat.

#5 Did I mention that I still have a good year or more to go on my payments for these gems!!! Now, the coil went out and leaked out all of the refrigerant. back to 100º in our house! They said it would be at least a week before they could get the part to me (which I thought was a bit long for such a well know brand with distribution) so I wrote them a letter on their website asking why Amazon can get me anything I need in 2 hours, but they take a week, even though they are installing hundreds of these daily, in my city. I also asked is this the type of "QUALITY" that I should expect from my purchase decision to go with them?

Guess what I received back in response to that letter? Well, if you guessed NOTHING, you would be correct. Par for the course here with Trane.

#6 The vents and 2 stage motor never really seemed to be very productive, so I called my dealer locally and asked them to investigate. They found that this unit was shipped with malformed flashing on the air handler and it was blocking 80% of the air flow. He trimmed it out and got it back to normal. So, again, I write another letter to Trane on their website asking if this is something that should be replaced or if it is common and again asked if this is the "Quality" I should expect from their brand. My Answer? Ding Ding Ding, if you guessed NOTHING again!

#7 Still waiting on my coil to be delivered after 2 weeks and the installer just called to tell me that Trane sent the wrong coil, so we will need to reorder it from them, AGAIN, and I need to wait. So, moral of the story? If you want really bad quality, tons of headaches, appointments, ruined furniture and pay at least 4 times as much as other brands, you should absolutely buy Trane. Or if you simply want the indoors of your house to be like this, then you should also buy Trane! Otherwise buy ANYTHING ELSE.

After much research, we choose an American Standard Heat Pump and Air Handler because of Consumer Report listing their product as top in reliability. Complete system was installed in January of 2016 by Speedy Air Conditioning of Port St Lucie, FL. Since that time, we have had three (3) evaporator coil failures and, last month, the compressor and condensing fan motor failed. This system has a complete failure in every aspect. We are requesting a complete new system, including heat pump and air handler, and were deeply disappointed when the request for a new heat pump, rather than a repair, was rejected.

The dealer's owner/manager, David Binder, has written that "in almost 43 years of HVAC industry experience, I cannot recall ever replacing 3 evaporator coils and having also a condensing fan motor and compressor fail all within the first 4 and a half years of a system being installed, and hope this information will assist you in acquiring replacement equipment from the Manufacturer".

If Trane stands behind their products, they wouldn't be hiding behind the fine print to reject warranty claims. I ended up replacing the whole unit. We replaced a failing heat pump with what we thought was 'the Gold Standard' - a Trane system with a 10 YEAR warranty. The system performed admirably for 4 summers, but when hot weather came to Virginia this year, the system stopped cooling b/c of what the installer indicated was a poorly located copper tube that had split and allowed the refrigerant to escape. We assumed it was an installation error that would be covered by the warranty, but in fact, the technician said the units are made that way. Four weeks later and over $1,500 of labor and 'service' charges [$800 of which is 2 occasions of lost refrigerant] we are still waiting for parts because we balked at paying an additional $300 for expedited shipping. It may be 'Hard to STOP a TRANE', but from our experience, it's even HARDER to START a TRANE!

Trane is a good product, but sadly they employ the use of predatory terms in their warranty program. I purchased my condo in 2017 and didn't know I needed to call Trane to transfer the warranty within 90 days of close on the property. Because of this, they outright cancelled my warranty on my Furnace and AC units (which still had over 10 years left on the warranty program). Therefore, they no longer will honor the warranty on those systems. Not cool, at all. I 'll never buy or recommend Trane again.

Eight years ago I spent close to $20,000 on three XL 20i Trane units, thinking that as I got into retirement I would not have A/C as one of my major expenses. Boy was I wrong. I was told these units were the most efficient units in the world, with variable multi-speed motor and cooling stages. Trane has great marketing. I believe they are probably correct about these units' efficiency, when the units are working properly. I have had a lot of little issues with these units from year three on. Most techs say that they are complex or over engineered, which is why they have such a high failure/maintenance rate.

If you are looking to buy a new A/C unit, I suggest you get online and search for the best A/C. You will quickly see where Trane rates in the top ten makers of A/C. "Nothing runs like a Trane", is probably a good thing. Right now I got one unit that has not run more than a week a half without failure over the past two months. It is down again, and I decide to go with a five star rated company with a couple of hundred reviews. I am now going straight to Tranes' Customer Service.

Literally each year during a/c season we've had to replace some portion of the indoor and/or compressor units. We've had a circuit board short out because a lizard found a way onto the compressor electronics box. We've replaced 3 master control boards in the inside unit and numerous other circuit boards and sensors. The system has not been reliable and has cost us as much in repairs as we paid for it originally. The Trane website talks about all the extensive testing they do but they seem to overlook basic things. It doesn't seem that we should have to replace this many electronics each time we start the a/c season.
