Maytag washer warranty coverage and costs

Maytag’s limited warranty covers parts and labor for one year from the original delivery date to repair defects in materials or workmanship, or it may replace the product at its discretion. From years two through 10, Maytag covers the cost of certain factory-specified replacement parts (labor not included) for noncosmetic defects that affect the appliance’s function.

Drive motors, wash baskets and dryer drum are covered.

Maytag offers similar warranty coverage on dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, microwaves, ranges and ovens. Check the details for your specific model on the Maytag warranty page. If you opt to get an Extended Service Plan, it will cost you extra.

    Limits and exclusions

Standard Maytag warranties only cover certain components. Only the stator and rotor are covered on the drive motor, and only the side walls are covered on the wash basket.

Washers with missing model numbers or serial numbers aren’t covered. In addition, the warranty doesn’t cover damage that isn’t from normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage, such as scratches and rust.

The warranty doesn’t cover the repair or replacement of many of the smaller parts or pay for repair pick-up or delivery, either.

Pros and cons of Maytag washer warranties

When compared to other brands, Maytag has a much better warranty system. The 10-year parts warranty is rarely seen with other companies. Here’s a look at the pros and cons so you’ll know what you’re getting into.

    Pros

    • 10-year parts warranty
    • 5-year parts and labor warranty on some models
    • At least a one-year part and labor warranty on all models

    Cons

    • Warranty doesn’t cover pick-up or delivery if needed
    • The 10-year parts warranty is limited to the drive motor, washer basket and dryer drum
    • Cosmetic damage and smaller parts are not covered

Maytag washer warranty vs. home warranty alternatives

While your limited warranty covers your washer for parts and labor, a home warranty does much more. Home warranties cover many common systems and appliances around your home. Plus, a home warranty can protect you when the limited warranty runs out.

The biggest downside of a home warranty is that you’ll need to pay a deductible for each claim. These are usually far cheaper than repair costs, though.

      FAQ

What is a Maytag washer warranty?

Each new Maytag washer comes with two limited warranties. One covers the cost of parts for an extended period, and the other covers the cost of parts and labor for a shorter duration of time.

How long is a warranty on a Maytag washer?

All models come with a 10-year warranty for parts and a one-year parts and labor warranty. Some models have a 5-year parts and labor warranty instead of a one-year warranty.

What is Maytag’s customer service information?

Maytag has a customer service number you can call at 800-344-1274. The Maytag website also has a live chat on the “Service & Support Owners Center” page.

      Bottom line

Maytag offers its customers more washer warranty protection than many of its competitors with its 10-year parts warranty. Still, customers may find that they want coverage for more than just the motor drive, wash tub and dryer drum. In this case, looking into a home warranty plan may be a good idea.
