I was buying a new home so I applied for a loan. HomeDirect Mortgage had the best financing that I could find and I got a VA loan from them. The rep told me the things that I needed to provide to him and I did that. The online application process was fine and the website was user-friendly. The lending process was complicated, though, and it took three months. The only reason it was long was because of the closing on the house. Other than that, everything was great with Jordan, the rep that I worked with. Also, the rates and the terms of the mortgage were good. Working with HomeDirect Mortgage has impacted my life positively. I have a home now.

Everything about our experience with Home Direct was fantastic. Their online application process was easy. It was a seamless process of automatic withdrawal. When a process is seamless and you're running businesses and you got kids, it's a great experience.

We were looking for an investment, a home that we could live in for the next 10 years or so and resell. HomeDirect Mortgage contacted me through Zillow and they had the best rates. There were several times where we had to get the pre-approval amounts increased during bids and the mortgage broker, Ryan, was very available 24/7 throughout the pre-approval process, which was very nice. The competitors that were looking for mortgage loans weren’t available on weekends, which was a huge detriment when you were inside bids, and a huge plus for HomeDirect.
Ryan was very helpful throughout the process and always had my interest in mind, especially when we decided to try to convert to a VA loan. He was very helpful in explaining differences and the methods. He also very clearly outlined the benefits and explained the limits of getting VA loan for future home purchases. We had to do everything virtually as he was in Kansas and I was in Chicago, and he sent reports and information via email. It would have been nice if he offered to schedule some time with me to review the information though. There was a lot of information there and I felt like I had to pull the information and ask clarifying questions, rather than having the information pushed to me.
Other than that, the underwriting process was very quick. We tried to do as much underwriting as possible for the actual offer and from the time that somebody offered to when we closed, it was three weeks. Moreover, the rates were great and lower than we expected. HomeDirect was incredibly helpful during the bidding process. I had a great experience with them and if a friend was considering a VA loan, I would recommend this particular broker. I would also use HomeDirect Mortgage again.

My bank recommended that I give HomeDirect a try and check it out. Everything went splendidly with my application process with HomeDirect. It was easy. Tamara, the rep I worked with, was very helpful in every aspect. Even stuff that wasn't even in her field and stuff that I would ask a question about that she didn't know, she was willing to look into and try to help me with that. She was very knowledgeable and did a really good job.

HomeDirect had the best rate, so we went with them for a mortgage of a new home purchase. We got our pre-approval pretty quickly within a day or two. Once we figured out which house we were going to buy, getting a final loan approval took a couple of weeks. The customer service and the rate we got were excellent. Julie was awesome and she was very easy to communicate with and easy to respond to any questions we had. She was also very helpful and made sure that we got what we needed. It was super easy to be able to sign all the documents online because we were buying not where we were living at the moment. So, it was really awesome to be able to have that ability.

The mortgage we got from HomeDirect was for a new home purchase. I did a little bit of research and I saw that their VA Program was pretty good. I applied at several different places, but HomeDirect was pretty prompt with everything. I then called them and they gave me a list of things that would be good to have in place when everything went through. Once I got the pre-approval, we then went ahead and started gathering these. As soon as we found the house we wanted, we put the paperwork in, which we already had all together. It took less than a month from the time we found the house we wanted till we closed. The online application process and the paperwork were very easy and we loved it. The customer service was very good, too, and they checked on the spot. The rate I got was great as well. I would definitely recommend them in the future to anybody who is looking for one.

I had to refi my old loan because of divorce and HomeDirect was the easiest to work with. I applied and they verified my income to see if I qualified. The process was semi easy and the underwriting process took about two weeks. The rep was responsive and took the initiative. HomeDirect did what I needed to be done at that time and I was happy with them.

HomeDirect has the lowest interest rate I could find. Their rep was great. He was responsive and quick to give me information. I was out of state and I was able to do everything online. I was a bit disappointed with the rate of the mortgage though as I thought it was a bit higher, but that’s the way it is.

I purchased a new home and I got a VA loan from HomeDirect Mortgage. David, the guy I was working with, was upfront with me the whole time. I had a few choices because I was using my VA. I liked dealing with David. He was being honest and he wasn’t trying to hide anything from me. And also, if I had a question, no matter what time of the day it was, he would call me right back or text me. He knew everything. I live in the state of Maryland and there are some fees. One of the things I have to pay is extremely high in Maryland and a couple of the people didn’t know that if you split it between the seller and the buyer. But David knew right off breaking those. He was on top of things and it was really him who made me go with HomeDirect.
Once he verified I was a veteran and I'm self-employed, I didn’t have to jump through any extraordinary hoop. Also, the online application process was streamlined and relatively simple. They let me know what I needed and David got all those documents and submitted them to a secure site and then HomeDirect went from there. The whole process took about 30 days. The rate was also excellent. I shopped around and it was very comparable. My wife and I are overall happy. Everything is fine and I would definitely recommend HomeDirect to any other veterans whom I know are ready to buy a house. I would give others David's number and tell them that he's great and he can get them through.

I used HomeDirect the last time I bought a house and the process was painless. There was a lot of paperwork involved but most of the difficulty in this process didn't come from getting the mortgage but from looking at the property and finding one that works. The rate was also excellent and that was why I went with them last time and why I went with them again. And I would go with them again. There's no surprises in the process.

We looked into getting a mortgage for a new purchase, and we went with HomeDirect because of their interest rate. Everything went pretty smoothly. The online application process was fine. It was the typical sending in the documentation for validating finances. The whole process took about three weeks, and things were through the lender who was running the account. I was also happy with the rate I got. It was a good experience overall.

HomeDirect had competitive rates and the online application process was efficient ad tailored to a quick process that I could get my refinance done as quickly as possible. Jessie, the rep, did a good job and I was very pleased with him. He was very professional and responsive after-hours. There was one little hiccup but I wasn't expecting perfection. We were going through a lot of different options and there was some confusion but in the end, he was the right guy for me. He understood my situation well and what I was trying to do. We got to where I wanted to get to.
However, I have been overwhelmed with emails and phone calls on lender loan types of inquiries and it all occurred after I finished and closed on my contract. It was not a coincidence and it was annoying so I am not pleased about it. I was also hoping to find the instructions on the statement on how to make payments weekly and in excess of the standard required principal each month. There was a phone number there and a point of contact for me to call so, I went ahead and set up my payments and got that locked in initially. I wish I could get a lower rate but given the timeframe that I was in, I was happy with what I have and I would recommend HomeDirect.

We were buying a new home and we turned to HomeDirect for a mortgage after doing a research online. They had good reviews and the best rate as well. I contacted them online and they responded quickly. I filled out their online application and within a day, they responded by saying that I was pre-approved for something and the process started. The application was quick and then the underwriting, the entire starting to closing of the loan, took around two months. Kyle, my rep, communicated well and was responsive. I worked with him throughout the whole process and he gave me updates, although having an online way to track it would have been helpful. All in all, HomeDirect did a good job. We got into the home that we wanted to by working with them.

We worked with Dave and his assistant Steven when we applied for a mortgage with HomeDirect for a new-to-us home. The process could never be fast though because it was a VA. It was complicated and frustrating but that was the government. But also because it was a VA, we were happy with the rate. We went with the Bank of Oklahoma because they were able to give us the best rate. The mortgage is a 30-year and below 4%. Who can beat that?

Also, the no-fee thing was good. The guy I dealt with was extremely helpful and a straight shooter. He was also very honest and very quick to get back to me.
It took a little bit under a month to close our mortgage. I was already pre-approved when I put in the offer with my realtor. He and I picked the closing date right before we talked to the guy at HomeDirect, and even before I actually went to see the house that I wanted to buy. He told me in the beginning that it wouldn't be an issue, and it wasn't. Also, I'm happy with the rate and terms. It was extremely competitive. The overall application and process was extremely pain-free and easy. I've already recommended HomeDirect to a few other people.

I got a VA loan from HomeDirect Mortgage for a new home purchase. I shopped around and HomeDirect by far has the lowest rate I saw or even heard about. And their mortgage process was streamlined. Correspondence was mostly over the phone and through email. They also had a secure website to send documents through. We were done with everything that we needed to have at the 30-day mark and we were just waiting the last couple of weeks. It was the best process possible. Ryan, their rep was completely helpful. He worked with me and answered back immediately almost every single time I had a question. He definitely made sure that I had all the documents that I needed and was very responsive throughout the entire process. He made the process extremely easy for me.
When I did end up signing, the seller agent said that she was amazed by the rate and could not believe that I had that rate. And the person that I signed the paperwork with at the real estate office said that he just did a VA loan a day earlier and they got it at 5% and mine was at 4.25%. So, it was extremely a low rate and the agent didn’t even think that it would go through. She thought that I’d have a problem with getting the underwriting process completed because she thought that rate was too good to be true. So far, I’ve already recommended HomeDirect to someone else. My wife who was also a real estate agent started to recommend HomeDirect to other people as well.

My friend used HomeDirect and I heard that he had a good experience and they had extremely competitive rates. I also had a good experience with them overall, but at times, I felt like I was in the dark regarding the status of where we are in the process. Most people pursuing home mortgages don’t really have a great understanding of all the steps of the process and it would have been helpful to be mentored or advised a little bit better along the way. The application and underwriting process were fairly swift. The long pole in the tent was the appraisal process, which took about two weeks.
At times, towards the end of the home buying process, it kinda felt like there was some finger pointing between HomeDirect and the local title company. As the buyer, I was trying to ensure that things were moving forward, so we could stick to our rate lock time period. I called the title company and they’re blaming things on HomeDirect, and I talked to HomeDirect and they’re blaming things on the title company. And both of these entities are supposed to be working on my behalf to get to closing, and it seemed like they just were not at the same page at times. I didn’t really feel like my best interests was looked at, especially when it came down to the wire and I had two hours to sign all the closing documents.
Eventually, they figured out what they needed to do and they got it done, but it wasn’t without prodding on my behalf. So, they could work a little bit better. Coming from Rhode Island and buying a house in Florida, I had to be on top of my communications with them and consistently be asking questions. Whereas if there was like a checklist step process that HomeDirect could give to their clients to help them work through that process and advise them along the way, it would enhance communication and better customer-client relations.

I was in the market for a refinancing so I could take some of my money that I've accrued and as I went online checking a bunch of the lenders, I found that HomeDirect had an outstanding reputation. Kerry, the guy I worked with at HomeDirect, was one of a number of people that called me and aside from the fact that I’d already done my homework, I liked what he had to say so we went on from there. I was told I could call anytime and I did, and Kerry was always available to talk to me. If I had any questions, he’d answer it right away.
HomeDirect got me the actual rate that was available at that time and the process was all done in a very quick period. We're done in around 28 days. So, I was very happy. And most of it was done electronically which was more convenient, thus making me even happier. With that, I would tell people that they should go with HomeDirect because they really take care of their clients.

Since we had a very good experience the last time we used them and they have a very competitive rate, we went with them again. The application and underwriting process took about a month. However, there was a miscommunication at the very end between the lender and the title company wherein there was a document that was missing. Lori, the girl who helped me out, was very good. I'd recommend her to anybody. I did the application online, but she did most of everything. We did a lot of talking over the phone, and everything she promised, she came through with. It took a little bit of time because things were changing, but everything worked out perfectly fine. The rates and terms were good too. I got a loan from HomeDirect Mortgage for a new home purchase. The application process was fine and I had no problems with it but the underwriting was a trainwreck! Their underwriters were so nitpicky and uncommunicative and refused to talk to me directly, instead they went through the people that were cut out that I couldn't figure out what information they needed to satisfy them. It drove me batty! The underwriters need to talk to the borrowers if they have concerns about some of the information that has been submitted. The problem was that we have a complex tax return. When they asked to see it, we sent it in. And then they got hung up on some K-1 payments from a company that hasn't existed for three years. They were also looking at our tax return from 2015 and were trying to figure out some kind of issue that they had with it, when it had no bearing whatsoever on our building, to repay a loan in 2018.
It was very, very, very frustrating. If they had contacted us and been a little bit more communicative and let us know exactly what they needed and why, we could have had our CPA answer those questions much more quickly, instead of having to wait until the very last minute until we almost didn't get our deal completed because we were waiting on the underwriter. The only thing that saved it was Matt. I enjoyed working with him and he did a great job. HomeDirect needs to hold onto him because he is probably the best mortgage officer that I've ever dealt with.
However, he went on a vacation, which in retrospect, I shouldn't have let him. He handed me off to his assistant, Jenny, who was incompetent. She didn't do a very good job at all and she was less than communicative. She did not know all the ins and outs of the process! What I eventually did was call Matt while he was on vacation. I was really reluctant to do that, but it has gotten to the point where I felt that I needed to do so. Matt was able to run interference, and got things fixed, even while he was on vacation.

Seth was recommended by a realtor for my new home purchase. I was impressed with his ability to be competitive with the interest rate. HomeDirect Mortgage's application process seemed pretty seamless and the initial approval took less than a week. Seth preferred that I send the documents directly to him instead of uploading the documents to their website. It seemed that the website didn't need to be there. I'd get updates from the website which were helpful but I got a lot more emails and it started to feel spammy. Though it wasn't bothersome and I would definitely come through HomeDirect again.
I tried to be really clear with Seth that we were moving across the country and that I needed to know if he needed anything else from me because all our stuff was gonna go in boxes and I would not have access to it until after closing. Part of the way through our two-week trip across the country, they needed a copy of our trust. It was a little freak-out moment but he was reassuring and saying that if I couldn't find it, it would be fine. I ended up finding it. I scanned it in and had a copy on my computer but that half hour or so that it took me to find that copy on my computer wasn't really what I wanted to do on our trip across the country. Seth may have thought he had everything that he needed and the underwriters have pulled that on him but it worked out. I just sent Seth an email referring a friend to him and I wouldn't have done that if I didn't have a great experience with him.

I retired from the military and got a new job. I moved to a new area and a couple of mortgage companies called me back quickly which included HomeDirect and I was convinced since I liked working with their rep, Dirk. He was attentive without being too pushy and responsive without bothering me constantly. He gave me enough room to decide and did a good job of walking the line of providing timely and adequate information without overwhelming me with multiple marketing calls and pestering me. There were a couple of pieces of paperwork that kinda got lost in email towards the end of it so when I went with the bank appraisal, I had to ask him twice to send that to me. He was very apologetic and it could have been my mistake due to there's a lot of emails going back and forth but it was all good.
I've bought and sold several houses so, I'm fairly familiar with the process of getting a loan and we had to verify all of our finances. We had to demonstrate a sound credit and had to have sufficient funds to pay the down payment. The online application process was very good and every time I do this, it gets a little bit easier and easier. The industry is doing a good job of evolving. I'm waiting on my VA disability claim to be settled. Once that comes in and if it's about 10% which I expect it to be, I would be able to go back to HomeDirect and get a refund of my VA funding.

I applied for a 30-year fixed VA loan from HomeDirect Mortgage for a new home. The rate and terms were good which made me decide to go with them. However, the VA's appraisal process was a pain. It took a while till I got the final mortgage approval and there were seemingly infinite numbers of papers to sign. But it makes sense for such a huge purchase. The entire process took about two months. I work with two people at HomeDirect and I don’t exactly know the delineation between each as far as who was doing what so it was a little confusing dealing with them. They need to have clear communication about the distinct roles and who does what. Nevertheless, they were very nice and very patient. It’s my first time buying a house, so I appreciated their help and demeanor through everything.
The VA was particularly good although I wish I purchased back in January before rates shot up in February for everyone across the board. I had a good experience with HomeDirect, overall. I would definitely recommend them as part of the process of obtaining a mortgage. People should at least put them in one of the few companies they should inquire about.

Our son and daughter-in-law live in Hillsboro, Oregon and we decided to try to live closer to them and our grandchildren. HomeDirect does not charge originating fees and we like working with a company that does that. We did the application for the VA loan on the phone, through email and text communication, and it was faster talking with the rep than doing it online. We have worked with Aspen, their rep, in three other mortgages. I've worked with some other people and I would not work with anyone else but her. We even followed her from one company to this one that she's in because she was so prompt and efficient. She was knowledgeable, very professional and patient with us. We took a lot of her time and she didn’t seem to show any agitation. She didn’t waste time and she got back with us right away if we had any questions. When was gone a week or more, she had an assistant that was on top of things with us.
We were very impressed and enjoyed working with her. Aspen gave us exactly what we needed in order to secure our loan and she was also very helpful when we didn’t know what to do and how to do it. To secure the loan, we had to meet several milestones and she kept in touch with us making sure that we were meeting those and helped us stay on the milestones we needed to stay on. The company had to do a credit check and check all the loans we had in the past and the other rental homes that we had. We also had to take care of some loans in order to secure this one.
With our last home, we got $6,000 added to the VA loan for energy improvement which VA would allow under the solar program and we requested that. Aspen did it before for us with another bank and when I talked with her about it for this, she said that the bank felt that there was too much paperwork and they didn’t wanna do it so her hands were tied. However, we did very well with the rates and terms of the mortgage and we got some lender credit. We are very satisfied with HomeDirect.

I retired from the military so we were moving and we wanted to finally buy a home instead of live in safe housing or rent a house wherever we moved to. I shopped around and interviewed lenders and loan officers then I narrowed it down to two. When it came time to put an offering, one guy was on vacation and Ronald from HomeDirect was there and ready to go. We worked well together so I went with him.
I liked his responsiveness because I had a bunch of questions and I kept calling him and asking him stuff, and he would get back to me right away. There were times that it was a little late at night too because I had a pretty hectic schedule towards the end of my retirement with moving and getting the old house packed up. I was working weird hours and he was still very responsive no matter what time of day. I really appreciated that and he did a tremendous job. We had six months to prep and Ron was forward-leaning on making sure we got everything ready before we actually needed it. So, it really helped make things go smoothly with the communication with him.
During the underwriting process, he asked for documents and we provided the documents within a day or two, and then we continued with the process. So, it didn’t take long. We took the offering that was to close on or before July 24th and we were ready to close by July 16th because we had everything done. But the earliest that the seller could do it was July 19th and we had to do a program on that day. The major terms that I was looking for and that I asked for was 30 years and that there was no prepayment policy. That was something that was guaranteed. The experience was less painful than most people made it out to be and I already gave Ron’s info to my sister-in-law. I told her that she can't beat this rate because when we closed the house that day, the title people said that he had the lowest rate than anybody they’ve seen.

I looked into a mortgage because I was buying a house. I had a bad experience with Quicken Loans, and so I started looking for reviews on different mortgage companies and I found HomeDirect. I called them and they requested a lot of information, which I provided. And then, I went through their approval process and was approved. The documents were all waiting on me at my closing attorney’s law office, and it went as smoothly as could be.
I dealt with my mortgage lender, Tamara, and she was extremely easy to deal with throughout the whole process. She found a way to help me get approved within their guidelines and the federal guidelines. Also, I'm very happy with the rate and terms of the mortgage I received. I would recommend HomeDirect. They're a very easy mortgage lending company to deal with.

We got a traditional fixed rate 30-year mortgage from HomeDirect Mortgage for a new home purchase. Ryan has been my loan officer for my last home purchase and then I refinanced on that home. He's someone who I really trust to the extent that I took a slightly worst deal to finance with him. But it was worth it to know who I'm dealing with and that he was being upfront. He acted like a personal loan concierge. He gave me information about not only the offers from him but from other companies and really breaking them down and helping me understand them without pressuring me. He was very honest and forthright. If I had a random question like I couldn’t log in to the portal or when HomeDirect switched over, Ryan was in my email. And Instead of having to call the customer service, he handled the conversing for me and that extra mile of making things simple for me is really what makes HomeDirect stand out.
The process of of obtaining the mortgage was really easy. We did the loan so far in advance which was great because we built this home so things were getting a little hectic. Ryan sent us all of the pre-qualification documents early on so we could fill those out. It was less paperwork than I had to do for the builder’s lender which was nice because it was all online, all DocuSign online, which was very easy. Ryan also kept us up to speed with exactly what we would need to send and when we would need to send it. Also, Ryan's turnaround time was a matter of a few days on each step. I was never waiting on him. He was actually the one waiting on us because we were waiting on the builder. We did the pre-approval really early and then the underwriting had to wait for a little closer to closing. I know for a fact that that our mortgage is competitive in today’s market. I just wish it was better, but compared to what other people are getting, we did very well.

HomeDirect Mortgage was located near where I had worked. Then I found out that they could do my mortgage from Kansas all the way to Florida and I would have somebody close, and that made me feel really good. I felt so confident that I went with them. Also, there wasn't any origination fee. The reps that I worked with, Ryan and his assistant, Erik, were great and they kept me informed all the way. If I had a question, they handled it. I got answers when I emailed them and I got a response right away when I got on the phone.
But when I originally filled out the form online, I was asked if I rented or owned a house. We've sold our big house and we've been renting in Florida for the last years, but the website would only take on that I rented, so there was some glitch in the program. It could have checked each home that I've had, but when I gave one address, it automatically didn't check the other address and I couldn't go back. There was no way to comment on those things and if there was something that I didn't understand, there was no place to comment. Nevertheless, everything has been wonderful with HomeDirect and my mortgage with them was the easiest one that I've ever done.

I filled out a pre-approval request and then from there, I communicated with my mortgage broker. It's just as simple as sending the requested documents to him. The application took about 15 minutes, but the underwriting was delayed by me. It was ready to go in a couple of weeks. HomeDirect helped us get our loan closed very quickly on a Friday to get it recorded anywhere I'd move in. They're excellent. And I'd recommend them to people.

He also went out of his way to explain and took a lot of time to educate us on the process overall before we even committed to going with them. And throughout the process, he was very on the ball with paperwork and deadlines and communication. It was a very professional process.
The first time we contacted Ryan was before it was time to fund the loan, so there was a sort of gap in time. Initially, we contacted him in July for a letter in the beginning but we didn’t close until March, until the house was finished since it was a new build. We expected a painful process based on our friend’s experiences but HomeDirect far exceeded all of that. Ryan went beyond what I would've expected any person working in customer service in lending to do. He was very forthright. And then we went to escrow which was another two weeks. We closed in less than 24 days; it was really fast. And we didn’t have to do much. We gave Dick the information and he came back with it. He was extremely responsive and got back to us on our concerns within hours, right in the same day. There was a secure transport of information, which made me comfortable. In the three mortgages I've now done, it was the least painful one.
During our home-buying experience, there were so many parts that we were just going back and forth with the realtor. The escrow was a little bit tedious too. He wasn't pushy, was fair and he kept me on the phone. He did a good job.
The process was simple. I was able to settle everything on my phone. There were only a few times that I had to print something and fax it out. It took a couple of months for the loan to go through because my old home had to sell and I had to take the proceeds from that for the downpayment for the house that I bought. Then the loan had to be underwritten. I had an excellent experience dealing with them. The market fluctuated during the first 30 days in which rates went up and came back down. I sent him the contract from the actual builder, and he pulled me up a quote after he got my credit report, and he tried to help me out as best as he can to give me the best rate. He also gave me options, so I could go with Option A and Option B. He checked back with me the next day and he had what I needed. If I needed anything else or if I had any issues, he was really good and easy to get in contact with.
The application and underwriting process took less than 30 days, and it was done before my closing date. I had another guy that I was working with for almost two months, and Matt managed to give me more information and lock me in faster than he could. He did more in three days than the other guy did in a month. I was talking to about four loan officers before I found Matt, and he happened to be faster and more efficient than the other guys were. It is sad because he's not even in this state, but he's better than everybody else I've met here.
The area that I bought the house is kind of screwing me over, which was nothing that HomeDirect can control. But as far as the rates that they gave me and the company, they're better than anybody else had. Buying a house, trying to find a house, and trying to find the right mortgage were more stressful than I thought they would be, and Matt made it a whole lot easier. Overall, between Matt and Janet, I couldn't ask for a better team. And whenever my folks ask me who they should go with, I'll direct them straight to them. After all the headaches I've had with other lenders, I wouldn't send them to anybody else except HomeDirect.

Also, I was rushed to sign the paperwork by 3:00 that day. We didn't want to lose, so we didn’t take the ample time which was our accountability. But it was also the accountability of the person who should be providing customer service because if they need me to rush doing something, then they should point out the salient points. Otherwise, don’t rush me. It was those customer service elements that were missing. There were also some pushiness that I would have preferred not to have, but I don't think that it was mal-intent. We were trying to get pre-approved and we wanted to know what range we could be looking at homes based on what we wanted our mortgage payment to be. HomeDirect Mortgage worked with us and then they gave us the range and we got approved for it. They moved very quickly and the application and underwriting process took six weeks. In the process of buying a home, the least stressful part was dealing with HomeDirect Mortgage. Everything else was a mess but this was one thing that went the way it should have from beginning to end.
Customer service was very attentive and responsive. If I had a question, somebody called or emailed me within the same day. I never went 24 hours without an answer to what I needed. And they were very clear in what they needed from me. The instructions were easy to read and interpret. The whole situation was the best we’ve ever been in and we’ve owned four homes. I even have the guy’s phone number. He told me I could call him if I am looking for a home and had a question about anything. And that was awesome. I only used it one time. Instead of waiting until Monday, I was able to get my answer on that Sunday. It was the best experience.
We told other people that HomeDirect Mortgage was the place to go for efficiency and communication. I felt supported through the process and also felt more of the connection with those people than I did ever before so it didn’t matter to me that it wasn’t face-to-face. And it’s because of the way they structure their process from the very beginning, through the middle, to the end. If you wanna go through this pre-approval process, HomeDirect Mortgage is gonna be with you through the whole process.

I bought a house, and at the last minute, my lender called me and somehow, they forgot to lock-in my rate. It was gonna be higher than what they told me. I did some research and it seems to be a pattern with this mortgage company for the builder and I had to wait until the last minute and raise the rate. We didn't lock it in so I either take it or leave it. I searched and found HomeDirect Mortgage, and got the original rate that I had hoped. Their application process was simple and I love everything about it. I was supposed to close on the 9th, and they called me seven days prior. It was amazingly quick and it was 21 days tops. HomeDirect Mortgage did me great and the rep that I worked with was good. He was there to help me with what I needed.

We were new homeowners looking into getting a mortgage and HomeDirect Mortgage was referred by a friend. My friend put the loan officer in an email with her and with me and said I was looking for his services. The loan officer contacted me right back and the whole experience was great. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, quick, and responsive. We were terrified as first time home buyers and he was fantastic the whole time. Also, the process was very smooth and easy. There were a couple of forms we had to get him but that was about all. We have our house and nobody can believe how effortless it was. And we are happier than clams now.

I looked into doing a refinance. I started to look around for a lender and HomeDirect Mortgage was the first company that I had a direct interaction with as far as getting a call back and having some further information. The process of applying for the refi with HomeDirect went well. Obviously, there were a lot of things that needed to be done when doing something of that nature, but there wasn't anything that was overly difficult and there was no pressure.
The loan specialist, Andrew, did anything he could to help us out. He was very customer-friendly and customer-oriented, and he was very thorough all around. He made sure that we were getting the best rate that we could get. He asked questions about what things we had in our home that would increase its value when we got the appraisal. That way, we knew coming to the table that we would have our house coming in for what we needed. My whole experience with HomeDirect was great. If I know someone else who's looking to do a refinance or a new home loan, I definitely would recommend HomeDirect Mortgage.

When I talked to the salesman on the phone, I liked him so I decided to refinance with HomeDirect Mortgage and move forward. Compared to other mortgages I had applied for before, their process was straightforward. Whatever information they asked for, we gave it to them and they took us for what we gave them. Lots of other companies will come and nickel-and-dime you to death for details. But because we had been through that before a few years earlier with somebody else, I also knew to submit everything completely. That made it smoother than working with other people. The process took about a month and the salesman I dealt with kept me informed about what was going on.
But once we got past the loan officer, things became a bit more difficult. I had handed it off to my wife and she didn’t do as well as I did with the company. We struggled to try to get the automatic payment date we were after. Now, we're just starting to make payments and we are looking for confirmation that they received our first payment but it was supposed to be an automatic payment. But overall, I was pleasantly surprised with HomeDirect Mortgage. I was pleased with them and I would recommend them.

My wife and I had HomeDirect before. I liked Jeffrey, he worked with us very well up in the Seattle area where we came from. He was on top of things and everything went smoothly. He took care of us every step of the way and the customer service that we got from him was exceptional. And he had great communication skills. We spoke with him several times and there was a lot of emailing back and forth. I thought some of the steps they wanted were ridiculous and I let him know and he explained to me why we had to have it, like my wife’s divorce papers. It was fine to ask for that stuff when we bought our house up. We refinanced after we got remarried and I continued that.
Now, we bought a brand new house in Alamogordo in New Mexico and my first inclination was to call in. It didn't take very long for the application and underwriting process to be done. It was less than 40 days before we closed. And they were right on the money. We wanted to close on March 8 and we did. Jeffrey's expertise, who worked with me again, was fantastic. He was extremely quick communicating back and forth when we needed to. It didn’t matter whether it was evening or during the day. We were so pleased that I've recommended him to my brother who’s in the middle of doing a refi right now in his place.
Other than that, we got a good interest rate. It helped us out with a lot of the closing cost and Jeffrey even had us wait to sign for a couple of days because we were gonna get even a better deal on the amount that we could be getting for closing. Overall, HomeDirect got the best interest rate and they were courteous, quick, and malarkey-free.

HomeDirect does not have the cheaper price but they have the best reviews. At that time, my lawyer and even my realtor said they had never worked with or heard of HomeDirect but now, they will start giving recommendations because they noticed that Chad was very cooperative and quick. He was the key factor actually. I was buying a home for the first time and it was really hard. But it was great to have Chad during the process. He made me feel that someone was on my side in getting me through this whole thing.
Although my closing rescheduled three times, Chad was able to get things done really quick. He helped a lot during the process. He was on top of my emails, phone calls and text messages, and he answered all my questions right away. He did an excellent job. Overall, I had a good experience with the first-time home buyer loan and I have already recommended HomeDirect to one of my friends. He's in the process right now and he’s closing on the 22nd of May.

We wanted to refinance and have a lower mortgage payment and free up some money so we can pay some things off. When HomeDirect Mortgage called, the rep was direct and to the point and he answered all the questions. We didn’t have any problems communicating and he was able to do everything that we needed to do without worrying about a whole bunch of crazy paperwork that some places do. It took three weeks to about a month for us to get our refinance approved. It worked out well. I had to fill out a couple of the signatures that we had to do and send. That can't be e-signed, so the only problem was to print those out and sign them, and then send them back in, although that wasn’t really that big of a deal. It was all right. I also liked that the rep gave me his direct number and if I had a problem or I had any questions, I could call him directly. I didn’t have to go through an operator and wait for them to find out where he’s at.
I can have the direct payments instead of having to worry about making the payment every month. The terms of the mortgage were okay, although I wish the APR could have been a little lower because we have excellent payments and we've never had any problem since we bought the house two years ago. But it's a little lower than what we had before, but I didn’t wanna have to buy any points on that.

The application and underwriting process took just over a month. We needed better communication though as to what was needed and what needed to happen next. There were times, particularly when the appraisals and inspections were involved, when both sides were waiting. It was hard to tell what exactly was going on. We got a VA loan from HomeDirect Mortgage for our new home. I used Zillow and they were recommended. I then researched through Google and I liked their reviews and rates. Of all the reputable companies, they were the cheapest. I told them I wanted a lock-in rate and the process was simple. There was an application to fill out and some of those forms like the HUD could be a little confusing to read. In the end, they had to move back the closing date once and there was money that had to be brought to closing that wasn't disclosed. But other than that, everything was positive. The overall approval process took within a day.
The only interaction I had with a HomeDirect Mortgage rep was the disclosure at the very end. Most were done mainly via email and there were a few phone calls. The response time was pretty quick. There were a few times where I'm assuming that the rep was out of the office that it was the next day when the response was sent. It would have been better if there was an out-of-office reply. I also got a rate from a local bank that was a half a percent higher than what I got through HomeDirect and on a big mortgage, that’s a significant amount.
The application process was super easy. The reps from HomeDirect communicated very well and were really easy to work with. From the time we applied for pre-approval to the time we closed, it took about 35 days. I wanted to get a fixed rate and do it in 20 years so I could shave some time off over the overall loan for the house. However, I waited about 90 days too late. I could have gotten it at 3.5 or 3.4, but I got it at 3.7. I wanted to apply for a mortgage because I saw that the interest rates started skyrocketing and sure enough, that's what happened. I went to Lending Tree and started putting stuff in but I never submitted it, and all of a sudden, I started getting all these phone calls and emails. I realized that I didn’t want to get bombarded by 30,000 mortgage officers and mortgage companies. I didn’t want to go with Quicken Loans because they're not people-oriented. I tried them once before and I got so frustrated, I walked away from them. Casey, the mortgage officer, called me and I knew within about the first 30 seconds that this was the guy I wanted to go with because he didn’t talk banking lingo and jargon.
He talked to me like I was a person. He answered my questions and he kept his word. He was with me through the whole process and even afterward that's why I went with HomeDirect Mortgage. It was an extremely fluid, easy, streamlined process to get a fixed rate to refinance or VA loan. The reason I went with HomeDirect was only because of Casey. He was the right person to do business with and he represented HomeDirect very well too. I would recommend him to anybody. And if I buy another house, I'm probably going to call him to do it for me. Even though he's not calling me, I would be calling him next time.
If he'd say he was going to call a certain time, he'd call. If I called him, he returned the phone call, so we were very comfortable with HomeDirect Mortgage. He returned my phone calls, sometimes late at night, because he wanted to make sure that we stayed on the timeline. He was keeping me informed how interest rates were on because when I was refinancing, it was the same time that Korean guy up in North Korea was firing off more missiles. The stock market was a lot in fluc and he talked to me about that.
No other mortgage officer has told me how things affect the rate and that to me was interesting. That's something that I learned and he took the time to talk to me about it. He was with me through the whole process to make sure things were locked in. We had all the right information and the stuff that he gave us was so clear. He walked me through the first paperwork and I didn’t have hardly any other questions, neither did my wife. She likes him a lot too.
He explained to me in simple, understandable terms and this was not a stressful project. I've been through some refinances and the best thing that I want is I wanted to know if I can make an automatic payment I don’t have to worry about until the end of the month because I'm a retired military. I'm guaranteed money to anybody who wants to refinance. He made it so simple and things were moving more to the digital process. And even if it was the paperwork process, it was still straightforward.
I love the online and digital process. To me, everybody is on computers and my wife even signed her documents on her phone. She was out waiting to pick up my son at school and it made it to where she could go in and look at it and sign it too versus having to sit down having late dinner. That's what we really liked about HomeDirect Mortgage. We started with the application and underwriting process on the last week of February and we were trying to close before the 25th of March.
Every window that he mapped out, every milestone that he said we're going to, Casey did every one of them and it was so fluid and easy. Sometimes they say that they need this other document and they need another verification of my employment. We had all the documents right the first time and we were just waiting to review documents and waiting for the underwriters to make sure they got everything. No underwriter came back to say that they needed something else because he was prepared.
He was very personable and understanding. He didn’t pull any punches and he set the right expectations, and that was key. I put $3,000 down on the house and I bought a whole point, and that put it back into where I wanted my budget that house payment to be. My overall experience with HomeDirect Mortgage was quick and we were done in three weeks. I was shocked because of his preparation in explaining the things not repeatedly. There were one or two questions we asked, we wanted to make sure we understood how the numbers made out but his first pass on it was about 98% on target. When I paid my first payment, HomeDirect said we're going to receive our first billing statement. He talked us through how to set it all up. He told us to call him if we had any other questions and he'd be more than happy to help. Outside of Casey, the HomeDirect webpage was also very easy to understand.

I was buying a new home so I applied for a mortgage. HomeDirect Mortgage offered me a lower interest rate and other lenders didn’t. The application process wasn’t too bad. I spent 45 minutes altogether in filling everything out. From his end, the loan processor did okay, but they had problems with the builder. What happened was that the builder's lender had originally offered me a $7,500 in incentives to buy the house and I turned them down because their interest rate was way higher at 4.25%. Then I found out later on that the builder’s wife is an officer in that bank and there may have been back-and-forth kickbacks.
When the mortgage came down to close, the builder originally said that the home was gonna be done in January, then this was moved to February 7th, and then they moved the closing date all the way back two more times after that. The loan processor had a hard time closing on the mortgage for me because of those reasons and I don’t blame him for that. And it was through that person that I heard about HomeDirect. I started the process on January 28, but HomeDirect got involved on February 3rd, and we closed on March 13th. It was delayed a little bit because I went on vacation so it would have been faster if I had been available.
The dealing I had with HomeDirect's employees was great and everybody was very responsive in answering my questions. They were very knowledgeable about the process. When I was going down the road with two lenders at the same time, my concerns were at what point do I break off and I wanted to make sure whoever I went with was going to be able to close on time when they leave us, and I was very impressed with HomeDirect. They get me through the process. But the problem was, I had already paid the original lender and it messed up on going into closing because the original lender was not able to get the actual appraiser paid. I ended up paying the appraiser twice and then get a refund. But I'm happy with my experience with HomeDirect Mortgage and I'd definitely recommend it to somebody else that was looking for it.

I got 30-year, fixed VA loan from HomeDirect Mortgage in buying a new home. The rates and terms were competitive so I was happy. I got pre-approved and I submitted all the paperwork they needed to have the loan approved. The application and underwriting process took a couple of weeks and it went smoothly. They were efficient, too. The main guy that was working with us was very helpful, honest and forthcoming. He had a great expertise and had a good advice for us.

We were buying a home and HomeDirect was a good company to go through. Matthew, our rep, was easy to work with. We dealt with him before so we went with them again. The application process went well. They needed our pay stubs, taxes and things of that nature. It took 45 days for the whole application and underwriting to finish, which is how long that process usually takes.

I put my information out in Lending Tree and HomeDirect Mortgage was the first to respond. Refinancing with HomeDirect seemed more personable and they had everything that I like. They asked for the normally required documents as well as proof of income. The online application process was fantastic, and the two gentlemen who helped me out, Mark and Anthony, were there with me every step of the way. They were the epitome of what this experience should be like.
The loan officers' level of knowledge and expertise was great because there was one who was a vet like myself. They were very military-friendly. Whatever questions that were not answered because there was uncertainty for the persons who were not vets were easily answered by the person who was a vet. They set the table for me and let me know, “You need to do this, that, or the other. You need to have this document, that document. We can get this document later.” And from that regard, everything was just smooth from start to finish.
The process, however, took a while because I had a bereavement throughout the middle of it. But, once I got back on track, we got things rolling in less than 30 days. The rates were fair and the terms were great. You don’t want to deal with a big bank. This is the way to go because you are not going to feel like you are just a number. You are going to feel like you are an individual trying to do business with a bank.

HomeDirect Mortgage was one of the five banks that showed up on LendingTree and I went with their 15-year fixed loan program. At that time they were the best I could find. The only factor that matters when it comes to mortgage is how much it's gonna cost me over the life of the loan and how much it's gonna cost me to close. I was most impressed with Chad who was straightforward and factual. I didn’t feel like we were playing any games anywhere along the line, which was exactly what I was looking for. HomeDirect Mortgage got me a mortgage and it was simple and painless. But that could change tomorrow or it could have changed already. It's the nature of banks. They loan according to what they need at the moment. So it's like an airline ticket. It's a Russian roulette.

I wanted to refinance my home for the cheapest rate. My wife is a realtor and she’s very smart. I just find when she told me it was time for me to find. We searched around and we found the best rate to refinance. We went with HomeDirect Mortgage and we spoke with Julianne who was very helpful. HomeDirect Mortgage’s online application process was very easy and definitely a lot easier than when I first initiate at my home five or six years ago. The application and underwriting process took about a week and a half, but it went by so fast. It wasn’t lengthy and drawn-out and I actually lost track of the time. It was also easy for me to manage and I didn’t have to worry about anything mostly because everything was taken care of on HomeDirect. Julianne sent me all the documents and stuff that I needed to take care of as well as what I needed to fill out and to get back to her. I filled out what papers I needed to fill out but my wife basically did everything.
Working with HomeDirect Mortgage has reduced my mortgage payment over $300. So, it’s a great deal. I’ve already recommended them, and there was a particular person who was in the same situation like us and so we gave them all the information that we had which my wife had obtained. They’re gonna go through the same process there shortly.

We were looking for a house and then we found one that we wanted to purchase so we applied for a mortgage. We applied to a few mortgage companies and HomeDirect Mortgage was the best fit for what we were doing. We had gone to another mortgage company and they could not do manufactured housing. We had already put in an offer on the house and then the lady referred us to Ronald, a HomeDirect's lending officer. She knew him and then we pursued it from there. Ronald really wanted to work for us and got everything taken care of. He was very thorough and really seemed to be working on our behalf.
We compared HomeDirect's rate to what else was available and their rate, as well as their terms, were fine. We put the mortgage on a 30-year mortgage so that upfront our payment was a little lower because we're trying to cash for renovations on it. Once we get past the renovation process, we will pay it off quicker than 30 years but it worked for us, at least in the beginning. HomeDirect was a steadying influence on the process because they already seemed to be ahead of any issues that came up or if an issue did come up on their side with underwriting or anything like that, we were notified right away and it was expedited in a decent fashion. We were very satisfied and I'd recommend them.

I did a 30-year fixed, traditional mortgage with HomeDirect in order to buy a home. I applied through LendingTree and then LendingTree had a whole bunch of things contacting me. We spoke with Mike and a half-a-dozen of them and we asked their rates and for them to send their closing terms and cost. Then I definitely chose HomeDirect for their competitive rates, lower closing cost, and in combination with responsiveness. The lending process took half an hour and everything went fine. It was a straightforward process for me and then I was contacted by the lender when we got close to closing to ensure everything was on schedule and all the paperwork was correct.
The only complaint that I had about the entire process was that the underwriter, for lack of a better term, was annoying. He became overly demanding at a certain point. He was asking for more information that I knew they needed. They quit asking when I pushed back, so it was clear to me that they didn’t need it. That was probably the most frustrating part. Other than that, the rates and terms were fine and everything was a yelp. There were no changes and everything was as I was expecting it to be at closing. My experience working with HomeDirect wasn't really difficult and is very much a business transaction for me.

We had an adjustable rate that we wanted to put into a fixed rate. I got online at LendingTree and they must have worked with HomeDirect because I got a call from one of the brokers at HomeDirect Mortgage. All lenders are pretty comparable, but the gentleman that I was dealing with at HomeDirect was very respective and quick to answer all of my emails and questions. It didn’t matter if it was the weekend or evening even though we're on different time zones. I ended up going with their fixed rate loan program, and the application and underwriting process took 30 days.
However, the closing costs they tell aren’t necessarily true in their quest to get business. It always ends up coming a little bit higher, and they could have just be more upfront about what the closing costs are going to be. But I don’t feel that they're alone in this because I was talking to four different places and that’s an issue with all of them. But HomeDirect's rate was fair and I was pleased with it. The experience with HomeDirect was impressive. We looked into a mortgage to get a house that we were looking and so we went for the VA loan program with them. Based on our friend's experience with HomeDirect, they gave high remarks. My friends are the type that doesn't recommend anybody unless they truly believe it. Then we made contact with HomeDirect. It wasn't within a day that I got a response back and we started working from there. The rep asked for some information and when we received a pre-approval, we started searching for homes. We went down and started doing a lot of legwork. And then, it was closing.
The application and underwriting process seemed quick. It took no more than a month when we saw the house, got the pre-approval, and started the underwriting. Being that this is our first home process, everything was spot on. Whenever we had a question, it wasn't hard to get a hold of them. So, their accessibility is impressive. It was probably within hours of them getting a hold of me to do something that my wife and I were on it. In retrospect, it was being in contact with them and making sure that whenever they said or needed something, we were on top of it, and they were on it.
We worked over the phone, but if there was anything that we had to sign, jump, or take care of, we do an online document distribution and it was efficient. We work with their reps, Kent and then Alissa, and they were amazing. I was impressed with their knowledge. They ensured us that they were there to help with the information. It felt like we could ask anything and we didn't feel like a pester. Some of the other people that we were trying to work with, it was like being an annoyance. But with the reps at HomeDirect, they told us to continue asking what we needed to ask. They were very professional and working with them was really cool.
What helped in getting the recommendation from our friends and the issues that they had worked through them was when our friends were traveling between states, the representative was able to get their paperwork waiting for them after the next stop and that just blew me away. I understood why when I personally got to work with them. Kent was just on it. It felt like they were there for us. Everybody has their own priorities and HomeDirect is taking note of that, and they put us first. They made us feel like family. I almost wanted to buy another house, and when it does come to that, even after five or 10 years, whatever we fill in or live in, we would call HomeDirect again since they all took care of us really well.
Also, HomeDirect's rates were good. I've been with the USA to the military since I was 15 years old and I'm now 42. So for Kent to come out and do what he did and with their rates, that was impressive. It was based on what I know right then and there. HomeDirect Mortgage made it easy for us the whole step of walking through with us and keeping us informed. They also made the paperwork easy for us.
We recommended HomeDirect to others especially Kent from the team. He was cool. It was all upfront and he made me feel like at any time I didn't feel comfortable, I should say so. They made it feel that they put our best interest forward rather than just feeling like a car dealership thing. Also, they put us with up with an amazing realtor. The hardest of it was scheduling and going to look at a home. But the fact that HomeDirect work on our behalf, nothing felt shady.

I just got out of the military and purchased a new home. It was a brand new home under construction. At that time, HomeDirect Mortgage had the best interest rates. I went online and clicked an interest. HomeDirect Mortgage called me up. I provided them with a few documents about my income -- paychecks and pay stubs so they could look at my credit history. Based on the little bit of information that I provided, they gave me an idea of what I would be pre-qualified for until I found the home that I liked and within those parameters. I sent back the information on that home and the lot to the rep. He looked it up and then they did all the work in terms of running the numbers and getting everything set up.
The rep I worked with was very good and we also had a young lady. Both were really nice and sweet. They were direct to the point and answered all my questions. The guy rep even answered my calls and texts when he was at home which was really nice. They were working around my schedule even though we're in a different state with a different time zone. A lot of times, he took the time even when he was with his family to answer my questions for my peace of mind.
However, right before I closed, I had to redo all my financing because they found a ding in my credit form when I was 14 years old. If they disclosed that to me weeks before rather than at the closing, I could have fixed the issue and proved it wasn't me and I couldn't have had a credit line back then. Other than that, it was super-duper easy for my first time purchasing the home I want. Everything was done digitally which was really nice so I could do it from my home or my phone. It made the experience a lot easier and quicker than going into an office, sitting down, and going over tons of paperwork. From my experience with HomeDirect, I would definitely recommend them to somebody else. I would say to give them a shot. They were kind, quick and very attentive to my needs. I needed to get a home loan for a new home purchase and HomeDirect Mortgage was suggested to me by someone from the military. I had called in June or July 2017 then the company that we were getting the house built through told us that our home was gonna be ready within 30 to 60 days. After that, there were some hiccups with the bill.
The loan process was pretty easy. I spoke to Ashton for about five to 10 minutes on the phone and she went over some of the quotes then we took some more information. And when I was set she told me to go ahead and give her some information like work history and the basic protocols to apply for a loan. So we did everything and she told me I was qualified but we ended up having to wait. It was eight months later before the home was ready until we got everything done with the process. When I first got the first quote, I was quoted at 3.5 interest rate. That’s what I was eligible for but during the last couple of months, things were going up. Ashton still kept in contact with me. She was always friendly.
In the end, I got a 3.75 interest rate. Ashton suggested that I try to get the rate locked in because there had been a pattern of it going up steadily since the New Year and I did. I’ve heard that other people have rates around four and five. So I’m pretty happy with the 3.75 rate. It could have been nicer if it was 3.5 but it is what it is. I have been recommending HomeDirect Mortgage especially other military personnel. They made the process pretty smooth.

We bought a farm and we got a loan for the new purchase of a used house. We got the best rate from HomeDirect Mortgage and they had the best overall services. We ended up using our VA and they sold themselves as being very VA-friendly. There were some closing costs that they picked up on and tried to make that as best as they can. It was streamlined as far as that goes. My wife was more involved in lining everything up with the gentleman from the HomeDirect and had to get all of the documentation straight.
It was quick and we didn’t run into that many glitches. Our interactions with the representatives were all well. We either got phone calls or notices of any documentation we did and we followed up on. We had one single point of contact and we had their direct number. The rep sent us stuff directly to either an email notification that my wife would get to our iCloud or to our Gmail accounts, whatever that we needed to be followed up on.
Overall, they’re excellent. They sell themselves that they were familiar with the VA loans. And we understand the majority of the VAs are going to be in young soldiers, airman, marines, and sailors or first-time home buyers. But if we were buying a forever home or a retirement home or a mansion that was over a half a million, then that would be a little different nature. We’re needed to have more money upfront to be able to close. They were knowledgeable about all that down to the literal dollar. We expected to pay about 6,000 more when we went to technically close than what was required so we were happy about that. 21,000 versus 27,000 when buying a 500,000 plus on home makes a big difference.
We got really fortunate because interest rates are going to go up so we locked that in. They stayed in abreast of this really quick too to tell us, “Let’s get this locked in.” So, we got a good lower interest rate as we could at that timing anyway. We’ve got a new home. We shopped around. And we had to nail down to two or three that we were comfortable enough with, that were familiar with the VA, and they were willing to do a VA. We’ve been moved in for about a month or a little over now. We closed and then we didn’t get position until the 21st of February. HomeDirect Mortgage is very good and I would recommend them. I would tell my friends that if they’re familiar with the VA process and what requirements are from out of the VA, that would be a plus. But one nice thing is having one point of contact to go back and forth to, rather than going to a phone chain or back and forth.

However, we had a bit of hold up during the application and underwriting process because the real estate attorney didn’t get my loan officer the information that my loan officer needed. That wasn’t on HomeDirect and more on the real estate attorney that we had, but that ended up being okay. I was most impressed by my loan officer's professionalism, promptness, knowledge, and the fact that he treated us like somebody who might be his only client. His level of expertise was excellent and the rates were good as well. We had tried to get a loan earlier and then the rates took up slightly and he was watching it for us. Our HomeDirect Mortgage rep, Joe, did a 15-year fixed refi on the house that we sold and he did a really good job. The lender was in Ohio when we sold our house in Oregon and they recommended somebody. Joe got an alert that we were being pinged for loans, so he called up. He had way better rates and he was much more knowledgeable with the VA system. He knew his stuff. The online application process was fast and easy. If I didn't know a thing, all I had to do was find a piece of paper, figure it out, and then type it in five minutes. Since Joe had already given us a loan to refi our house a couple of years prior, it was nearly updating our information. He said, "Yeah, we got this, this, this, this and this. I need you to give me the new stuff or this one. We need your 2016 taxes now but I've got your 2015." It was already on file with him and was very easy.
We really like the rate and terms of the mortgage that we received and we know it was the best that we could get for the time. We're super sad the interest rates weren't as low as before but we asked some other companies about rate quotes and HomeDirect provided a really good quote and we were very happy with that. I went with HomeDirect's VA loan program for a new home purchase. We had to go through all of the steps that are associated with VA. However, the inspector gave us a really low estimate on the price or value of the house. So, we put in a complaint letter and justified why we felt that was an inaccurate estimation. We had them do a reevaluation and it came back higher but still not as high as we needed. Fortunately, the owner of the place accepted a lower bid as we bade about $4,000 above the asking price. The owner ended up bringing the value down to the point where we could afford it. If it hadn’t been for that, we would have had to cancel out on the deal. So, that was the major problem and that set us back about two months. And after that, the application and underwriting process took about three weeks, which seemed normal and acceptable.
This was our first time attempting to buy something out here on the East Coast. We are from the West Coast and had been through the purchasing of new home many times and had always gone through escrow companies. Whereas here, we ended up with three different lawyers that have to decide all of the funding costs. It seems like a difficult matter to come up with a smooth flow of things, and now, I don’t know whether it was us requesting a VA loan that messed things up or not, but it definitely was a lengthy process here and that seems to be the standard. If I talk to pretty much anybody in the New York area here, they'll tell me that it’s not a very expedient process.
The rep at HomeDirect seemed to respond to our questions and all the papers and stuff that needed to be signed and faxed and forwarded for his files. There was a lot of that that was involved, but we never really had any issues with him or with the representative of the loaner. And the rate was good since we were able to get a much better starting deal by accepting a higher interest rate. The higher interest rate for the loan still was something that we could handle, so it didn’t appear to be really detrimental to us. But it made a big difference with the overall closing cost. We’re now in an older house that has a lot of work to do but it was what we wanted to have anyhow. So, with HomeDirect, we got what we wanted and everything is rolling along fine right now.
HomeDirect Mortgage was fine but not necessarily outstanding. We still had to jump through a lot of hoops to get things done. But under the normal course of things, the rep, Jim, did what he needed to do. Jim was very professional about the stuff that he ended up dealing with and he kept up well informed of what was going on and what was needed. And he was pretty prompt at what he did. He dealt with my wife very personably, so it was a good experience except for the problem with the overall inspection value that was applied. It was Jim who told us to put in the complaint on that and we followed his instructions and got a reevaluation.

We had our second house burned down a couple of years ago so we started to rebuild. I took out a couple of different home equity loans to do that. I was at the limit at one of them so I had to take another one out. The rates were going up on home equities and the deductibility of them was in question. Home equity loans didn’t sound like they were going to be deductible so I went to the first mortgage with HomeDirect. I did a refinance to do away with the home equity loans and take out the first mortgage.
The process of obtaining the mortgage was like taking out another home equity and it took three months. I sent in 150 pages of documents and it was very frustrating, although not as bad as the home equities. But those were both horrible. The agent said I had no problem being qualified but they still asked for more paperwork that was much more than I thought was necessary. One time, I sent in 10 sets of 10 pages of documents. They were all the same and there was nothing different on any of them except the first two pages. They wanted it for every month so I sent in the whole one on the first month and then after that, since all the pages were the same, I sent in the first two pages, but they wouldn't accept it.
By then, I was out of the country and the agent said I didn’t need it to qualify, but they came back and wanted all those same pages. I told them to look at the first document because everything else was garbage. They didn’t accept them and it was frustrating, whether it was a home mortgage or a second mortgage. The online process was okay but once I filled out the app, it was all of the paperwork and the time I spent. I had to send 150 pages of different documents. The whole process was way too involved and they asked for too much. They dotted every I and crossed every T like it was a death warrant and everything had to be perfect.
When we were through with the process of me providing all the paperwork, they went to the title company and they made changes that they never asked me about and never told me they were making. Two of them, in particular, is going to cost me a lot of money. The first one was that our house is in trust for my wife. So, they wanted the trust document and I sent them a summary of it because it was lengthy. They accepted that and they left it in trust. In Michigan, we have a reduction of our real estate taxes, and when they took it out of trust, they eliminated the deductibility of my real estate taxes, which means I'm going to have almost a 50% increase in my taxes. They sent 120 pages over for me to sign and they sent a notary over who didn’t know anything about the documents. If I had to go through the 120 pages and read every line, it would have taken me a week and a half, eight hours a day. So, I just signed them.
Also, we caught a couple of things that they shouldn't have done. Because they took it out of its trust, I had to hire an attorney and he said I’m going to lose my exemption for 50% off on my real estate taxes. I asked why and he said it was the way HomeDirect did it, which they shouldn't have done. I closed on the loan but now, I got to battle it out. My attorney is going to see if I can get my tax exemption back. That was one problem and they never told me about it. It has caused me an extra cost and a big headache and I don’t even know if I'm going to get the exemption back.
My interaction with the originator, Kent, went fine and I told them at one point that with all the problems they were causing us, I felt like backing right out of the whole loan. And I didn’t like when Kent said, "Oh no, you've been in business for a long time. You know how things go. It's no big deal." I told him that it was a big deal because it was causing me all kinds of cost and headaches, and he just fluffed it off. Once they turned it over to the title company who did all of this, it was out of Kent's hands and there was nobody checking the title company so it caused me all kinds of problems.
I would not go back to HomeDirect because of what happened with the title company. The only thing I got was a lower interest rate which I was going to get no matter who I went with. When I did the mortgage with HomeDirect, I put my original house, not the one that I was refinancing on. Kent said that we did it in our original house because it was going to be easier, and I said okay. Now, there are some questions whether or not I can deduct that interest on that loan because it's on my second house, and that's part of the new tax law. I had my home equity loan with a bank and I had my condo in Florida as the collateral, that I had to put up as if I don’t pay, they get the condo. I also had another one with United Federal Credit Union for $200,000. The bank was $100,000. They put my main residence in Michigan as my collateral for HomeDirect.
They had to close my United Federal Credit Union because I had that house up as the collateral for that loan. Then the title company went and closed my home equity loan that I had taken out with the bank. And when they did that, the bank came back and I signed the documents along with 120 other pages of documents. They should not have closed it. They should have paid it off like they did the United Federal. They had to close United Federal because they had to put my residence on the new loan so that was okay. But instead of paying down to zero, they closed my home equity loan with the bank for my Florida condo.
I called the title company and asked why they did that. The rep said they had to because they were securing their mortgage against that house. I said they weren’t and they were securing that about with my main residence in Michigan, and I had the Florida condo on home equity line of credit with the bank. He checked and saw that I was right and they didn’t need to close that loan. I got charged $1,000 from the bank for closing the loan out because it was not in effect for three years. So now, I've got to pay another $1,000 and I asked my attorney if I have a claim against this title company.
When I had just gotten back from Costa Rica, they wanted to get the loan closed because we were two days away from the guaranteed rate that they had given me. I had to do it. I didn’t have time to read it and study and send it to my attorney. Now, besides paying my attorney again, I got to pay the bank. I told the bank that my plan was not to close this loan because I was going to use it for my Florida condo. I wanted to do it on a home equity and it was a lot easier. They said, "Well, you did sign the document. Even though the title company screwed up, you signed the document." The rep then said that it’s going to be a battle.
HomeDirect didn’t tell me they were closing out either home equity lines. The agent said he’d call the bank and tell them that we didn’t mean to close it out, but we just wanted to pay it down to zero. He called me back two days later and said that he got a confirmation that they were going to look at it. But by the time they got to the info, the loan has closed so I called the bank and I explained it and they said they had to go back through their pay-off department and see if they'll reopen it. I said I wanted the loan but I didn’t want it to be paid off. Now I've got to wait 30 days. I was going to start the "remodernization" of the condo and I've got to hold up on that too. It's been a fiasco and nobody's checking the title company. The title company never talked to me once, put together 120 pages of which I had to sign numerous times. My wife and I had signed 20 different times.
They're not interfacing with me, the borrower, and they should be talking to me. There were obviously two things they did wrong and nobody ever talked to me. It's going to cost me a lot of money, probably $3,000. I lost my real estate taxes, and if I lose that exemption, that's going to cost me $2,500 alone and then I get the $1,000 I've had to pay the bank for closing the home equity line which they screwed up.

The original mortgage that I with TD Bank was split between a home equity credit line and a first mortgage. And it was a seven-year adjustable rate mortgage. I was looking at LendingTree one evening and I wanted to find out what the rates were, so I gave them my information and I got calls from about 10 different people. The mortgage broker that I chose through LendingTree, the current mortgagee, was the only one who asked me whether or not I was a veteran, if I honorably discharged, and if I had ever used the VA loan before. No one had ever suggested I could use the VA loan, and the broker was able to consolidate my loan and do it through the VA. It was a refinance.
The mortgage process was very onerous as the VA requirements were very stringent. For example, I had prepaid my federal taxes and prepaid the state taxes. And yet, the VA wanted to know the sources of the moneys that I used to pay the taxes. Then I had to get a copy of the front and the back of the check to demonstrate that I actually had paid the taxes. The VA requirements were extremely picky and I had to comply with them. I have a well on my house and I had to have that tested to prove it didn't have bacterial contamination. I had to have the septic system checked to make sure that the septic system was not broken. They were stuff that I would never have done before at any other mortgage company. So I did everything that the VA wanted and it cost me a little more money, but at the end of the day, HomeDirect finally approved my loan.
The online application process was fine. It was quicker because when I filled something online, it is sent over to the broker. And he would call me or email me and tell me exactly what I wanted. If they wanted any documents such as my tax returns, he would send me a prepaid UPS address stamp or mailing, a label to put on the package and send it. They were very accommodating that way. The whole application and underwriting process took about six weeks. The rep was terrific and very cooperative. I could call him any time and he got back to me very quickly. He was excellent and I was very pleased with the service that he gave.
The rate and the terms of the mortgage with HomeDirect were excellent as well. I got 3.5, 30-year fixed, as opposed to an adjustable rate with the original mortgage that I had with TD Bank where the original home equity credit line started as a payment of $525 a month and after about six months, they raised it by a $100, saying that I was on a very low loan and they had every right to raise the rate. With HomeDirect's 30-year fixed, I don't have to worry about interest rates going up in the future. Working with HomeDirect Mortgage made me very happy that I had someone who was on my side. The rep took care of everything. He was a great intermediary and he saved me any direct contact with the VA.

I had an adjustable mortgage and I was concerned about the rising interest rates. HomeDirect Mortgage had a better overall cost. I filled out a couple of forms on the internet and I was contacted, then we went from there. I also called and inquired about the automatic draft and they answered my questions. Overall, I’m fairly happy with everything about the refinance experience with them. The whole thing took less than a month.
