Do vets recommend Royal Canin?

Still have questions?

Is Royal Canin a good dog food?

Royal Canin can be a great choice for pet owners looking for breed-specific dog or cat food and those who want pet food designed for specific health issues. Because one of the ingredients used is corn, however, some pet owners choose not to purchase Royal Canin. Additionally, the company doesn’t offer grain-free options for dogs and cats with grain allergies. If you like the price and the brand is accessible to you, we think Royal Canin is worth a try for pure-breed pets and those with health needs, including diabetes support or digestive relief.

Royal Canin refused to offer any type of consideration when 2 of their Hydrolyzed Protein cans at $6.39/each arrived damaged, the pull tops were sideways and snapped off. If you try to use a can opener the metal splinters making the food unusable. Their customer service had me take, report all the data on the damaged cans so they can trace it and just said, "Thank you. Get a refund from the retailer," after I asked for consideration maybe a $10 coupon or something for the hassle of replacing their damaged product. It's obvious that the damage occurred at the factory because the case of 24 cans was sealed. I spend over $4k a year and they lost a customer, I am switching brands.

I bought Royal Canin 8+for small dogs yesterday...fed my baby dinner, mixed small amount of the Royal Canin then added her regular food. Did the same this morning at around 8:40am. My baby has never had a seizure until about 3:40 pm; it was awful. This brand has rosemary, which can trigger seizures!!!! Pet owners, please be careful; this food can kill your pet. Why add something that can cause a seizure!! The food is already very expensive, and now having this happen to my fur baby is unforgivable!!

My dog has been on the Royal Canin hepatic canned dog food for several years and lately I've gotten three cases where the food is hard all around the edge halfway in and in the middle is mushy. The can inconsistency is horrible. I don't know whether it's safe to feed my dog. The cans are not dented and the seal looks good but the food like I said feels like Wax all around the inside of the can of the food and then the inside is almost like liquid. So what is going on the formula change?

Chewy has been amazing but they keep sending me replacement cases but it doesn't do any good because three different are two different Lots of dog food with different expiration dates have the same problem so if something going on with the manufacturer. I'm calling my Dad to see if I can get a different hepatic dog food for my 14 year old little dachshund who has extremely high liver enzymes so she has to be on some kind of prescription dog food and this is not it. TL:DR. Over the past couple of weeks, several cans of Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Loaf purchased on 11.24.25 (exp. date 7.17.27) smelled off, looked unusually watery and mushy, and seemed to coincide with sudden/continuous vomiting episodes. Each of the half-full cans were immediately thrown away. The most recent new can developed an extremely foul, “dead animal” odor in the fridge after just two days, even though it’s stored in an airtight container. Our 3 1/2 y.o. Silky Terrier, Tater Tot otherwise tolerates the Hydrolyzed Protein P/S dry kibble with no issues, and has been on the Hydrolyzed Loyal for two years. We’ve reported this to Royal Canin and are sharing here in case other pet parents using this food have noticed similar problems, especially with dogs who already have serious health conditions.

Tater Tot has a history of food allergies, Addison’s, and serious chronic GI issues. He is under the care of a Veterinary Internist, with upper and lower GI endoscopy and biopsies planned to figure out why he has frequent vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. These “Addi crisis’” have led to ER stays, hospitalizations, medication regimens, and around the clock care. Because he’s medically fragile, even a short bout of vomiting can set him back, worsens his quality of life, and potentially lead to a premature death.

Below is what I reported to Royal Canin: I’m writing as a long-time Royal Canin customer with a serious concern about the Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Loaf for Dogs. I believe several cans I recently purchased may have been compromised/tainted, putting my dog’s health at risk during an already fragile time. We have been loyal Royal Canin customers for years. Both my current silky terrier, Tater Tot, and my previous silky terrier (who had Cushing’s disease and kidney disease) have done well on your prescription diets. Because of that history, Royal Canin is a brand we’ve trusted with our pets’ most critical health needs.

Tater Tot is an active and loving three-year-old who has experienced ongoing gastrointestinal issues, including frequent vomiting, dehydration, and diarrhea. He is currently under the care of a Veterinary Internist and is scheduled for upper and lower GI endoscopy and biopsies to determine the cause. His condition is delicate enough that even short periods of vomiting or diarrhea can significantly impact his stability with detrimental long-term consequences.

About two years ago, after an elimination diet, our vet prescribed Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein P/S (dry kibble) and Hydrolyzed Protein Loaf along with hydrolyzed food from other food brands. We chose Royal Canin because of our positive prior experience. Tater Tot has continued to tolerate the Hydrolyzed Protein P/S dry kibble well, and the Loaf consistently until two weeks ago. I purchased several cans of Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Loaf for Dogs from PetSmart on 11/24/25. We mix the loaf with the dry kibble during his picky periods. Under normal conditions, one can lasts 2–3 days with proper storage in the refrigerator using a sealed lid.

      Here’s what happened:

      • First incident: After opening a new can and feeding Tater Tot, he vomited the next morning. To be safe, I discarded that can and switched him temporarily back to only the dry kibble, along with medications (Sucralfate and Cerenia). • Subsequent cans: Over the following ~10 days, we alternated between dry kibble and new cans of the loaf. When I opened the fourth can, I noticed it had a different smell and a thinner, more watery texture than usual, with the loaf being mushier and less firm. I fed a small amount, and Tater Tot vomited again shortly afterward. I discarded that can as well.

      • Strong odor from the refrigerator: Last night, we noticed a strong, foul odor coming from our refrigerator. We cleaned it thoroughly, discarded perishables, and used baking soda, but the smell persisted. This morning, we tracked the odor to another newly opened can of the Hydrolyzed Loaf (opened two days earlier and stored in an airtight container). The contents smelled extremely rotten, like a decaying animal.

Fortunately, Tater Tot had not eaten any of the wet food for the past two days, and he has not vomited during that time. His health appears more stable at the moment.

We are extremely meticulous about his diet and routine due to his conditions. He does not receive any treats or table food, and he only drinks purified bottled water. The only variable that changed during these episodes was the introduction of these particular cans of Hydrolyzed Protein Loaf. While I can’t conclusively prove that the cans caused his vomiting and diarrhea, the pattern, texture changes, and foul odor strongly suggest that these cans were not safe for consumption. The smell permeated the airtight lids as well, so I threw them away to avoid cross-contamination/pathogens.

This situation has been terrifying, exhausting, and costly. Tater Tot’s planned procedure is now on hold until he is strong enough to undergo anesthesia. I am deeply concerned that other pet owners and their dogs, particularly those with serious or terminal conditions could experience similar or worse outcomes if there is a quality issue with this product. Even a brief period of vomiting from tainted food can trigger a domino effect of complications in medically fragile dogs, and possibly result in heart-breaking loss of life. As a concerned pet parent, I feel it is my responsibility to share this experience so that any potential quality assurance or safety issues can be investigated and addressed.

      Could you please:
      1. Confirm whether what I’m describing is a known issue with the Hydrolyzed Protein Loaf?
      2. Let me know if the ingredients, formula, or manufacturing process for this product have changed recently?
      3. Advise on any current quality alerts, recalls, or batch investigations related to this product?

      4. Provide guidance on next steps for further investigation, as I am happy to share any additional information your team needs. I have retained photos for documentation.

For reference, the cans were purchased on 11/24/25 at PetSmart (Bethany Home location) in Phoenix, AZ. Thank you for your time, and for taking this concern seriously. I hope this is an isolated incident, but I would appreciate your prompt investigation and response so we can determine whether it is safe to continue using this product.

I changed my two small Havanese to Royal Canin at my vet’s advice. My very experienced Breeder recommended Orijen. My dog had zero health issues for over nine years on Orijen, within three weeks of putting her on Royal Canin, she had a bladder infection and ultimately had to have surgery for bladder stones five weeks after changing food. My second dog was rushed to emergency the day of my older dog's surgery. She too had a bladder infection and later showed crystals in her urine.

My cousin has a Havanese that is seven weeks younger than my two year-old. She too had serious intestinal problems three weeks before my dog. She too was changed to Royal Canin. The vet was never able to determine the cause, just said it was due to inflammation and irritation. I’m convinced the food is the culprit. While my dogs like the food, I believe possibly Havanese are sensitive to grains, Orijen is grain-free. I believe food compatibility depends on your breed. I write this review to warn Havanese‘s owners. It’s been very costly and traumatic. The dogs were seriously ill.

About half a year ago, my cat was diagnosed with arthritis and was prescribed Royal Canin Mobility Control dry food. First of all, I read the list of ingredients, oh boy, it was full of fillers. No real chicken, just chicken by-products, and mostly corn, oats, wheat, and other stuff I wasn’t happy about. But since I had no choice, I started to transition my cat to it. The first two attempts, even with a tiny amount mixed into her regular food, were unsuccessful, my cat vomited right after eating it.

On the third attempt, it seemed like she started to accept it. After two weeks, I fully transitioned her to Royal Canin. But about a month later, I began to notice some worrying changes.

My cat became more and more lethargic, and not because of the arthritis. Those symptoms actually improved, and she could jump onto high spots without trouble. But she started eating less, sleeping much more than usual, and worst of all, she began shedding excessively. Very excessively. When I brought this up with my vet, he just brushed me off and sent me a generic ChatGPT-generated response about grooming, completely ignoring my concerns. I decided to wait a bit longer, thinking maybe it was just shedding season. But after a few months, nothing improved. In fact, the shedding got even worse. So I decided enough was enough. I stopped feeding her that food.

I switched her to a normal grain-free food, added an omega-3/6 blend (UBAMEG), and started giving her Cosequin supplements to replace what she had been getting from the Royal Canin. And guess what? After just four days, I started noticing a change. Her appetite came back, she became playful again, and the excessive shedding began to improve. So from my experience: yes, Royal Canin was a complete garbage. Even though it was prescribed, it ended up doing more harm than good.

Royal Canin has to be the WORST pet food company ever. My cat’s vet gave me a Rx for several cat foods that are easier for cats with IBS to digest. Royal Canin Ultamino for cats was one of the recommendations. I could not find a single pet store (Chewy, Petco, PetSmart, etc.) that had this dry food. The Royal Canin company lists places that supposedly have the product. They can’t even keep their web site up to date. Every place listed on their site is “out of stock”.

I sent an email to the company to let them know. They sent me a $5.00 coupon today that expired 20 days ago and a letter of apology stating the product is in high demand. They also sent a list other companies that supposedly had the product. None of these places have it available. During my internet search trying to find this product, I found there are several lawsuits against this company for deceptive marketing practices and their dog food plant in Rolla, MO is closing. If this product ever becomes available, I’m certainly not going to buy it. This company must be run by total idiots.

      Reviewed Feb. 19, 2024

I have a cat on the Royal Canin Prescription Hydrolyzed Protein diet as she has many sensitivities/allergies. Long story short, the company changed the formula without letting vets know, even though it is only sold in vet clinics. If it's happened with this food it stands to reason vets may not be notified when other prescription foods are changed as well. I am told by RC many changes are coming in the spring and summer of this year (2024). You know how it is when changing a pet's diet - it should be done gradually, particularly with more sensitive animals. If the vets don't know, they can't pass the info to us and we can't slowly transition our cats gently and the animal suffers.

Luckily I had stocked up as this is all she can eat. When I went to pick up another bag, I noticed the packaging was different. I asked the clinic if the formula was new and they said no, just new packaging. I compared the contents and they are the same except for one ingredient, but the order has changed, so have the crude analysis numbers and the calories have been reduced from 350 per cup to 330 per cup, so in my opinion the formula has changed. I noticed a very greasy smell and feel to the food as well. I mixed it half old and half new, she wasn't too interested in eating it, but what she did eat made her sick. It resulted in a vet visit (different clinic from where I bought the food) and she advised she also did not know of this change. I backed off on the new food and gave her 1/4 new and 3/4 old and she felt better in 36 hrs.

When I went to leave a review on the RC site, I noticed quite a few people had the same complaints. Cats didn't like it, caused vomiting, diarrhea and skin rashes. A friend back east called 10 clinics in his ae with the hope of finding some of the old formula bags left that he could ship to me. He advised a few of the clinics mentioned they also had cats who are not doing well on the new formula. So this may be the tip of the iceberg. I started researching this company's recalls and was disappointed with what I found, i.e. mislabeling Veterinary Renal Support food - approx 3,000 bags were affected and they did a "quiet" recall, not a public one. Illness in cats on the Prescription Urinary SO formula, in some cases causing death. Mold contamination in Veterinary Canine Urinary SO dog food and Veterinary Low fat canned dog food. Let's not forget the Vitamin D and Melamine poisoning in 2006 & 2007.

As I've said, RC advises many changes are coming soon so watch your pets on these foods. The company is global and its ingredients are sourced from all over the world. They have assured me they have the strictest quality control procedures in place. I'll leave that up to you to decide if you agree with them or not. If you have issues with RC foods, please report it to your vet and leave a review on the RC site. People who love their pets need to be made aware of this. Oh, and they have advised me they have no intention of returning to the old formulas.

We have a Cane Corso puppy. We've had her since she was 6 weeks old. We did careful research and the consensus seemed to be that the best food for her was Royal Canin dry puppy food...We fed her this for the first few months without any issues. We bought the large bags which were several pounds. The food was brown, in the shape of small square pellets. That was as of October 23. In November of 23, the following month we purchased the SAME bag from the SAME pet store. All we did was login, and hit, "re-order." When the bag was delivered, NOTHING on the packaging was different. It was labeled EXACTLY the same. Same colors, label, name, EVERYTHING. HOWEVER, upon opening the bag, we discovered the small, square, brown pellets were now slightly LARGER, CIRCULAR, brown pellets. We thought, "ok...they changed the shape for some reason."

My partner is automatically a skeptic and insisted on checking the label and ingredients on the new bag, and comparing them with the old bag...We found NO VISIBLE differences OTHER than the SIZE and SHAPE of the pellets. Well, we fed the food to our poor Corso puppy. In a matter of days she began to have soft stool, and then diarrhea. She then began vomiting. The first time she vomited, it was ALL of her entire feeding for breakfast. Still in the same size and shape but covered in bile. None of it was digested and it had just puffed up, but not broken down. We were shocked.

We still had some of her old food, and we did a test. We took the brown, square pellet and placed in a cup of water. It sank straight to the bottom and did not float. Then we took the new stuff, the brown, round pellet, and it placed it in the same cup of water. It did not sink. It floated at the top of the cup and eventually expanded so large, like a sponge. It never sank. It just kept expanding and floating at the top of the cup...This was happening in our poor Corso's stomach and she couldn't digest the food. We stopped feeding her the new pellets and started giving her another recommended brand and her diarrhea stopped immediately. She never vomited again. THEY HAVE CHANGED THE FORMULA despite advertising that it is the same! It looks the same but the shape is different and they have definitely changed the content!!! IT IS NOT THE SAME! DO NOT FEED YOUR DOGS THIS NEW STUFF!!!!

The Royal Canin Prescription Dog Food US does not care about their clients, I have been buying their food for two dogs since 2012. In April one of my dogs got a small amount of a can of food that was punctured on the bottom before I noticed it. The next day she was vomiting and had diarrhea. Took to ER and ended up in hospital with pancreatitis. Vet told me to call company. I sent pictures of can and sealed case it came in. The company was going to call vet, never did, then emailed and said nothing was wrong with the food after two and a half months. Totally ignored the can. Every time I called the company to check on the people had absolutely no compassion. It's all about the bottom line $$$$.

We have solid proof: 3 of our 4 dogs got violent food poisoning from RoyalCanin GastroIntestinal Low Fat dog food. Fed the 3 small dogs the RC Gastro along with cooked chicken, fed the collie her dry dog food (not RC) along with cooked chicken. The 3 small dogs were violently ill, vomiting and pooping blood! All within 5 hours of eating. Vet assessed and determined it was caused by something all 3 ingested at the same time: ROYAL CANIN GASTRO!!!! Will never, ever buy this poison again.

I should have known better, it was prescribed for one dog for her stomach issues that NEVER improved. And now this! We are fortunate to have a good vet who immediately treated them aggressively. Had an open case with Royal Canin for 2 months and they completely denied any wrongdoing. Please do not buy this dog food, or anything from them. Note that my dog who was prescribed RC has had NO stomach issues since we stopped using RC. It's a long story but I'll get straight to the end. This food nearly killed my cats. Once perfectly healthy, they both developed serious constipation after being fed this vet recommended dry cat food. I am thousands of dollars into their care to correct this situation and once my vet realized the food was causing the constipation he quickly confirmed that it's a widespread problem. I pay top dollar for a supposedly prescription food only to have it cause horrible issues and cost me a fortune. DON'T FEED THIS FOOD TO YOUR CATS.

I have a Male Ragdoll cat, and he got a UTI so I bought over the counter Royal Canin Urinary, and the food made him constipated, he is 5 years old, and has never had that issue. The food also caused him to gain weight very quickly. I’d watch for signs of constipation in your pet if you feed Royal Canin. I put him on Science Diet urinary and hairball formula, and he no longer has constipation issues.

I contacted Royal Canin today via LiveChat regarding Royal Canin Hair and Skin Dry Cat Food for cats. It has been out of stock everywhere for quite a while and I asked when this food will be available again. The answer of their representative, Aurela X, surprised me in a negative way. Seems like Royal Canin does not care equally for their products (and customers). Below is the answer they gave me:

      • I am sorry to learn that you are having difficulty acquiring this product. We apologize for the frustration. We have paused many retail diets, such as the one mentioned, to refocus efforts to producing veterinary diets.
      3:10 PM
      • While we do not have an exact estimated in stock date to provide at this time, we do not anticipate it to be available prior to end of 2022.

      Aurela X

WOW! They refocus efforts to producing veterinary diets!!! And all the other customers who have been buying their products for years seem not very important to Royal Canin. I expected more from a reputable brand, and I am deeply disappointed.

Royal Canin is letting my dog down. My little Lobo has a condition where he has many food allergies and he suffers from colitis. He is also on medication on a daily basis. The only dog food that he was tolerating was the Royal Canin prescription potato duck formula. I was informed by the company today that they suspended manufacturing of that formula until possibly January. What am I to feed my dog. I am very disappointed and extremely worried that my dog will get sick. Why would a company that claims a higher standard stop manufacturing a prescription dog food that is necessary for my and many other dogs to thrive on. I am very disappointed in Royal Canin and I am also very worried because I don’t know what I can feed my dog now. I put a call into his specialist they referred me to a company that makes home-cooked meals for dogs with specific issues however, the cost is prohibitive.

I have been using Royal Canin Urinary SO for a long time. In January 2022 it became toxic. Both of our Kitties became ill with vomiting and diarrhea. One of our Kitties bounced back once we got the food replaced. However, our special needs blind kitty got very sick. She stopped eating and drinking and was vomiting and went from diarrhea to constipation. Pain and suffering is also a huge issue for her. She is currently in the Animal Emergency Hospital and we have a bill of about $4500 so far.

I reached out to Royal Canin and they told me without the bag they could do nothing. I store the food in a bin and had gotten rid of the bag. They should be held accountable but will not be due to me getting rid of that bag. I believe if they wanted to they could trace the bad batch. They just do not want to held accountable. The food was toxic!!! They have poor quality control issues. I know I will not get our money back nor could anything make up for the pain and suffering of our Stevie. I am writing to let the consumer know hang onto your bag if you buy from this company as they do not want to take ownership of tracking down the batch that made our Kitties sick.

When I received the bag in December I had concerns because I did not think the bag was sealed properly. I was told by RC that the product was fine. In January when I first used the food, I thought is smelled a little off. This was Jan 12, 2022. I fed it to my cat because RC had said in December that it was fine. That evening my cat threw up twice. On Thursday he was not eating and very sluggish. I brought my cat to the vet.

It is now Tuesday January 18, 2022 and my is still not better. Not eating and not voiding as he should. He is currently at the vet on IV trying to flush his system. I Contacted RC today, January 18, 2022. She said they have not had any complaints on this food. However, I see from this site that there has been issues before. There are also issues posted on other sites that are recent with this same issue. While the RC customer service agent was helpful with explaining their manufacturing testing process, it does not explain why these cats are falling drastically ill. I asked if they could analyze this lot. She said that the request would have to come from a vet. I'm focusing at this moment on my cat, however, when he is better (praying) I will continue looking into this.

I have a foster cat who was nearly put down by her former owners. She suffered from IBD, and it was bad. She was given to the shelter, who started trying her on 3 different prescription foods by "Hill's Science Diet" and "Royal Canin-Ultamino" and "Hill's z/d" canned. After about 2 weeks of eating that crap, she came to my home as a foster. I pleaded and argued with the vet to allow me to try something different, but his ignorance about nutrition lead to him believe a prescription (scam) diet is best. Even though those foods made the cat have explosive diarrhea all over the house, he still insisted. Long story shorter, she is now on Stella and Chewy's, and no longer has a trace of IBD.

Science Diet and whatever other companies fall under that name are scamming the public. One of their prescription foods contained BHA, a cancerous preservative. That one food in particular had my foster cat exploding with diarrhea within 2 hours of eating it. Even if this food seems to help your pet, it's still horribly unhealthy and will eventually do damage.

I noticed that recently the can is smaller in size and MARS who Owns Royal Canin has cut down the size of 13.5ozs. to 13ozs. The Morsels in Gravy are now larger chunks but, less with filler being the gravy. Now, opening the new E Loaf, the product seems more wet in texture, the loaf is a different color from the one I bought and had the Dark Blue Label and it even smells different. NOW, based on all the reviews I am worried about whether my dog will start vomiting and developing other issues. BTW------The price has not changed. This is so wrong.

I started feeding my Dachshund Digestive Care wet food. She really enjoyed it. She was only 9 lbs. I also gave a little bit at each feeding to my Lab to fair. Both of their stools became a little soft. I didn't worry too much till a week later. My Dachshund stopped eating or drinking altogether. The next day she was confused, lethargic and stumbling. Took her to the vet immediately. She was kept in overnight for multiple tests. They were adamant she had gotten into something but could find nothing. The next day, she died.

I continued to use a little of the food for my Lab for 3 days. She became ill and went to the vet. She was not in as severe shape. Again they could not find a problem and sent her home. That afternoon I figured the food was the only change in the last one and a half weeks. I stopped it completely. I am writing this on the fifth day after I stopped the food to say my Lab is perfectly herself again. Royal Canin dog food has something in it that is no good to our pets. Don't take my word for it! After years of feeding my cat Adult PV dry and canned food, Royal Canin changed the formulation of the canned food. This food caused him to vomit repeatedly and lick himself bald due to skin irritation and we incurred expensive vet bills trying to eliminate any issues such as a bowel obstruction. His vet suggested switching to Hills z/d food which eliminated his symptoms. Comparing the ingredients between old and new formulations of the RC canned food, the main change is the addition of powdered cellulose, a known digestive irritant! Emails and a letter to the company about the situation have received ZERO response, which is why I give them one star. I can understand a allergic reaction to changed ingredients, but the company's total indifference to a consumer complaint is unacceptable.

Do not buy this food, it is toxic and we aren't sure if the chihuahua is going to recover, doing ultrasound now and he is on IV's. Nobody seems to address this at the vet clinic or the company but please save yourself and your sweet pet from this horror. Obviously this is a widespread issue since you can find hundred of similar reviews. As soon as our older dog was taken off the food he improved to normal. I bought Royal Canin on recommendation of my sister who has Frenchie that thrives on it very well in Europe. I bought it on Chewy. My 6 months old Boston Terrier female got instantly diarrhea that would last for one or two weeks. I couldn’t believe it is caused by high quality of dry food. So I after she got better I again tried a bit and again severe diarrhea. I have also a boy 5 month old Boston terrier, he didn’t have issues with the food and it looked he truly enjoys it. So I was thinking to feed him 15 kg bag while she must stay totally away from the Royal Canin Puppy food. I didn’t feel like throw away bag I paid for $80. But today also my boy threw up bunch of pellets I fed his day ago and they were totally not digested. I am thinking totally throw away Royal Canin Puppy food bag because it made my dogs very sick.

It prompted me to search reviewed and now I see I am not the only one. I feed Hill’s Science Diet puppy food and my dogs never had issues. I wanted to upgrade on recommendation for more expensive and what I thought higher quality food but I warn you all, Royal Canin Puppy is not an upgrade. I am not sure what’s wrong with that food, it even smelled good to me... looked darker like may have more meat content. What a shame it made my puppies sick snd now I need waste it worth of $80.

My 14 year old dog was diagnosed with very early stage renal failure. My vet placed him on the Royal Canin renal support food stating he had to be on a low protein diet. He had been on the food for 6 months when he started throwing up multiple times a day. His behavior started to change drastically, he started hiding under the beds often confused and extremely lethargic.

After multiple vet visits (blood work, ultrasounds, three rounds of antibiotics and a thousand dollars spent), they established he developed pancreatitis. The vet said this is caused by a high fat diet. When I told him the only thing my dog eats is the royal canin, he didn’t have much to say. My assumption was that the food was causing him to get sick. After switching him back to his old food he is back to his happy energetic self and has not thrown up since being taken off the food! From reading others’ similar experiences it seems their food is full of processed ingredients that creates more harm than good.
