Since they switched their formula my first Shih Tzu started to throw up and become lethargic. Within 2 days he passed. My second Shih Tzu is on the same road I am waiting 3 hours for the vet to open up to take my dog and try to save her. Not only did I ended up paying vet bills but lost my four legged best friend and now crossing fingers I don't lose another one. Please stay away from their food. They are in the business of killing pets. I am very heart broken and disappointed in their quality of food.

I bought a large can of dog food just to open it to find a can full of watery oil and about 1/4 full of something solid, but didn't look or smell like any dog food I've ever seen before. Needless to say, I put it in the freezer til I could contact Pedigree. In the meantime, I continued feeding the one dog a large can of Pedigree once a day, and not even a week later that she had to be put down for she was old. But she refused to eat or drink the past couple of weeks that I fed her Pedigree. Never will I ever buy Pedigree again.

About a month ago I bought my dog the 25lb Pedigree meatier recipe. At first everything was okay. As time went by my dog stopped eating AT ALL, he stopped being himself. One day we noticed blood in his stool. He started limping from his back leg a few days after that, he looked very skinny and weak. We noticed him licking his paws and the carpet, he was obsessed. About two weeks ago we noticed a lump with a bloody scab in his front paw. We assume it was the food, we switched his food right away. Yesterday we noticed he wasn't limping anymore, he looks healthy again. We wrapped his lump up and put some ointment. The change in his behavior is extreme. Never ever again will I buy Pedigree!

My daughter has a dachshund who had the same problems mentioned in the other posts. When she picked him up from the animal hospital she mentioned that he had been eating Pedigree for small breeds. The vet told her that was the problem and to stop using the Pedigree. After she told me the story I began thinking about my own miniature dachshund. I was using the Pedigree for small breeds. My dachshund had been having the same issues for months, but the doctors could not figure out what was wrong. Now I truly believe it was the dog food.

Last year between Oct and Nov I am guessing now because I cannot remember the exact date. I bought the Adult Complete Nutrition Chicken Flavor Bonus size 44-lbs. My dog became very sick. Within a week to a week and a half of being on the food she dropped a tremendous amount of weight - she was so weak she could hardly walk. It came on real fast. I stopped feeding it to her and I called Pedigree. They sent me a kit with a bag and I sent a sample back to them; as of this day I have never received a reply back about the food. I noticed in the bottom of the bag of food it looked like it had a lot of salt crystals lying in it, which I said to the guy on the phone who took my address and sent me the kit. To this day I don't know if maybe it was overloaded with sodium or what. My dog passed away Christmas eve night.

I have fed my pugs who are 5 and 7, "Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition" since they could eat adult food. We never experienced any problems. On July 5, we had to rush one of our dogs to an emergency care center where they had no idea what was going on. She was lethargic, vomiting and way out of it (her tongue was white, I'm not exaggerating) but they gave her some medicine and she was all better. The next week we fed her a chicken and rice diet and she was doing great.

Yesterday we started giving her the pedigree again to get her back on her normal eating schedule. This morning she presented the same symptoms and rushed her back to the vet and he said that it was the food. Now we aren't even taking any chances with big brand dog food and we are just giving both of our dogs chicken and rice with a multi vitamin. If you think that Pedigree won't make your dog sick you will probably be wrong. SURE THE FOOD IS CHEAP, BUT VET BILLS AREN'T. We spend $1500 trying to figure this out. YOUR DOG DESERVES BETTER!!!

Approximately 5 days ago, my husband and I bought the 50 lb bag of Pedigree Complete Nutrition Adult Chicken flavor dry food. Within 2 days of eating, my Staffordshire Bull Terrier started to eat grass every time she went outside... we just assumed that she had a virus as she's always eaten Pedigree, but just the beef flavored (they didn't have that flavor when we purchased the chicken). Then, she started having horrible gas... and it wasn't like every now and then... my house started to smell like she had had a bowel movement on my floor. I finally decided to do some research on this chicken flavor dry food and I really feel as though there is something wrong with this company for keeping this on the shelf! DO NOT PURCHASE!!!

I expected a few days of diarrhea with the change in formula but nothing like this. I TRUSTED this company. Now I will NEVER USE IT AGAIN. Shame on Pedigree for changing the formula and making not only my dogs sick but everyone I talk to that uses Pedigree dog's sick as well. We've never seen him like this before. We even took him to the vet because we were so worried about him, but at the time they said that he "seemed" fine but this has continued on now for another week and we'll be taking him back and changing the food! He will barely eat anything at this point and we're hoping that with a few days away from that terrible food that he'll be himself again, but I will be reaching out to the company.

I took her to the vet the next day they drew blood work and put her on IV solutions, gave her an antibiotic and anti-diarrheal. By the following morning, she had to deteriorate it so badly that I had to take her back to the vet where she started having a succession of seizures. I have since brought her home and am waiting to see whether or not she will make it.

We have used Pedigree dog food for 14 years. We have a 14-year-old female pit bull and an 11-month-old male pit bull. We bought a bag of the dog food (the adult blend) which is what we have always fed them, on Thursday July 2. Friday morning, we woke up to a huge mess of diarrhea in the room they sleep in. Not knowing for sure which dog it was, or if it was both, we cleaned it up and moved on. They ate the food and seemed fine over the weekend (Though I did notice them eating grass which means belly ache.). Monday morning and this morning (Tuesday) we woke up to another huge mess of diarrhea and vomit and confirmed it was indeed both dogs. Took stool samples into our vet and the vet said there was no sign of bacteria present and agreed we could have a contaminated bag of dog food since that's when the symptoms started.

After reading the other reviews on this website, I believe it wasn't a bad bag/batch, but it's because of the new formula/recipe. I called Pedigree and after waiting for 23 minutes, finally was able to make my complaint. They are sending me a refund for the bag of food. I hope more people call and tell their story if they've had problems so that this can be recalled and they can do something about the new formula! Unfortunately, after 14 years of being loyal Pedigree customers, we will be switching per our vet's recommendation. I read on another website that one woman's 10-year-old terrier died over the weekend from renal failure and had the same symptoms our dogs had and the only difference was the new formula of food.

We have two collies and have fed them the Pedigree dry dog food for a few years. They changed their formula and have the new chicken flavor which we bought at our local BJ Club, 55 lb. bags. After feeding them this for a few weeks our female began throwing up bile. At first about every other day at night and then every day and became quite sick. We had her to the vet and they could not find the cause so we took her home and then had to rush her to emergency since she was throwing up the bile and was having stomach contractions frequently and had a hard time breathing. They did ultrasounds, x-rays and a complete workup and could not find anything wrong with her digestive tract or organs. She then started salivating profusely and developed pneumonia. She was in intensive care for a week.

At that time then our younger male collie started throwing up bile, so we stopped feeding the Pedigree food and switched to another brand. Our female that was in intensive care and is now home is still having problems with saliva but neither one has thrown up bile or food since we switched brands. This all started with their new chicken formula with the smaller chunks and orange and green chunks. I don't know if this has been recalled but it needs to be addressed and looked into. Our vet bills were over $5,000.00 so this needs to be addressed asap so no one else's dog get sick from the food. I have three more 55lb. bags that have to be destroyed.

I buy Pedigree in Gravy for my rescued Greyhounds. It is an excellent meal to change over from raw meat, likewise with Whippets. This is mixed with biscuit mixed to avoid too much protein. I was so upset to find that the last 2 cases I bought were marked Gravy, but were loaf! I cannot afford not to feed this as I am on a pension, but have noticed my old Lady is very loose with change of diet. I will continue to feed Pedigree with Gravy as it seems to be superb up to press. I cannot afford to buy more than 12 at a time and the offers on at some Supermarkets at 2 packs for 6 are great! I have kept one of the tins and bought from B and M Bargains at Barrow in Furness. Thank you.

I am in the middle of moving from one town to another in my area, and my dogs were staying at my mom's during the move. My mother bought a bag of Pedigree to feed them. I didn't realize that could be the problem until a friend posted these reviews on Facebook. My mom reported that my dog MJ looked swollen in her abdomen and had quit eating. Then she kept trying to poop, and was unable for a very long time. Then, suddenly, she would have a raging case of diarrhea. Afterward, she would be lethargic, would not jump onto her doghouse and tried throwing up. She was miserable.

I took her to the vet, and the vet said it appeared to be something she ate. She sent me home with some different dog food. MJ was able to eat that, and did not have any diarrhea afterward. That veterinary visit cost me $98 (that I don't have, I had to borrow the money). After reading all these reviews, I'm sitting here extremely upset that this happened. She is more than a pet to me, she is family. I will be making sure that we never use Pedigree again.

He pulled out what appeared to be the colored pieces and spit them on the floor. Needless to say he will not eat this product and I am stuck w/ a large bag of dog food. I think Purina should check their product and see what the problem is. My dog is far from a picky eater. Seriously would like a refund but don't have the receipt. If product code is needed, I still have the bag. Product was purchased from Dollar Store.

My Lab is 5 years old. All the while she was given Pedigree Chicken and veg (03). In May-2015 when we purchased her Pedigree we got the new packing. There was only one type of pellets inside. Usually there used to be another small pellet also. Within one week she started eating lot of grass. Then started to pass dark stool. Very smelly. The vet attended her. Tested blood, took for scanning. Could not find anything. The body odor also became bad. Soon she started vomiting. Whatever she eat she will vomit after some time. She eat like there is fire inside her. Within another one week she was so bad and we had to put her to sleep. Today only I saw this web site. Now I am convinced that Pedigree killed my Lab. Earlier I used to defend in favor of Pedigree. What a pity. Companies do like this to grab money. Sad Sad Sad!!!

Today she vomited a lot in the morning then when I got home I gave her a small milk bone and waited an hour then gave her a hand full of food, waited another hour and gave her some more. She vomited all of it back up. We gave her some licorice root and cat food. She is finally settled. We trusted Pedigree for years and all of a sudden this happens and I read that other dogs have died! This is unacceptable. No one was warned about this. There was no recall. Recently (less than 3 mo.) switched from dog chow to Pedigree. Originally started with approx. 15 bag chicken flavored and my two beagle/lab mixed girls seem to like it. Well, in middle of June 2015 I decided to buy 55 lbs bag since there are 2 dogs. Immediately we noticed the dogs were drinking excessive amounts of water, eating grass and had loose stools. Since weather has been quite humid, I passed that off. Also thought it was maybe cheap dog treats I bought so I had my daughter only give 1/2 a treat every 3 days to see if that helped. Also the dogs are still vomiting occasionally.

The dogs have also been having issues holding their urine. Which I figure was a result of being around New animals and people so I stopped taking them to dog park. Finally starting last week my entire family began to comment on how the dogs don't even finish their food, they continue to eat more grass and visually they look like they lost weight. I finally began to think about the dog food and began watching everything they did. Today it is now June 26th and definitely feel a trip to vet later today. Overnight as my dog lay next to me, my leg got wet. She had leaked urine...even after being out less than an hour before.

We have been feeding the large breed formula to our nine year old Great Dane since he was a year old. We purchased our usual big bag of food at Target, like we always do, making sure it had the photo of exactly how our Griffin looks (harlequin Great Dane) and we went on home. After finishing the almost empty bag, we then opened the new bag and like we have been doing for almost 8 years, put two cups into his bowl in the morning, and then two more come evening. (He's a very big boy with a big appetite!)

Fast forward to yesterday, close to four days since we began feeding him what we thought was the same food we have been feeding him but WASN'T, and he began to eat grass. Ok, he does that from time to time, no red flags going up. Then, late afternoon I noticed he was constantly squatting as if he needed to go, but nothing was coming out. Then an hour later, he had diarrhea. And then every twenty to thirty minutes he'd repeat the same thing. Squatting, nothing coming out, then almost immediately after, he'd have diarrhea.

I chalked it up to him eating something that upset his belly while he was outside. He awoke us at about 3am, pacing around our bed incessantly with what sounded like gas sounds. Then the smell hit us, we flipped on the light only to find spots where he had an accident.. Close to 20 droplets and puddles all over our room, in the family room, hallway, dining room.

Today he hasn't had any interest in water, plain snacks, rice, and is extremely lethargic and uninterested in any interaction. I am taking him to the Veterinarian in the morning because he's definitely dehydrated. After doing some investigation, the only thing to change was YOUR food. I will NEVER feed my dog or any other animal I have ANY of your products ever again.

I have been searching everywhere for answers as to why my two babies died with similar endings. I looked up Pedigree food to see that there was a September 2015 recall! This is exactly when my chow mixed male died after a week of no eating. He had blood work done only to find out that he did indeed have cancer. He was gone, healthy to skin and bones within a week as the cancer ate him up from the inside out. We had no idea because he looked fine! Due to his dense coating. We decided to put him down once he started to violently vomit blood.

8 months later I did the same to my beloved Tenshi. My PUREBRED American Akita. Within the last year she has been diagnosed with epilepsy (seizures) and was given medication to control them. And then out of nowhere she stopped eating just like my Chow did and lo and behold she started to vomit blood as well as defecating blood. Her liver started to shut down so she had to be put down as well. And as you read the other stories on this page you'll see a similar pattern. "Stopped eating", "seizures", "vomiting", "vomiting blood". It was the most painful thing in the world to watch my dogs slowly deteriorate, the pain and suffering in their eyes and I couldn't do anything to save them. This issue needs to be resolved ASAP.

Come on people we need to feed our dogs what they like and are use to. Bring back the original chicken with the chicken nuggets in it. Been a week and my dogs will not eat any dry. It's not fair to take away the things our pets love, and change it to something they won't touch. No stores have the original. If you really care about pets and the people who love their pets stop taking away to make changes.

I have used Pedigree dog food for many years. I have always been a supporter of their products & recommended their dog foods to many other pet owners. Recently, (isamee last year) my dog has acquired a foul odor her coat, her breath & her gaseous insides! Having tried every shampoo on the market, several hundreds of dollars having her professionally groomed, several hundreds of dollars in "vet visits" my dog is becoming unbearable to be around. I love my dog like a child & she has no idea why more & more she is left alone!

A friend of mine was visiting me & got a whiff of her, and said she smelled just like her pet before she took her pet off of Pedigree and switched to another brand. She said it took about 2-3 weeks for her dog to recover from whatever ingredients they have started using. Having always had really healthy dogs, I was skeptical and she (my friend) suggested I google it & read others experiences.

The first site I found had 600+ reviews written about Pedigree. All were complaining of the exact same issues, with a few reporting seizures also! How anyone could be so stupid as to commit corporate suicide is beyond me... I sincerely hope that this company is forced to fold. I assure you that I will do (by way of public media, email & word of mouth) everything possible to to help shut its doors!!

I had a 10-year old Chihuahua mix who was healthy. I opened a new can of Pedigree chicken and rice, she usually got beef but I decided to give her another choice. She ate only half of it and within an hour started panting and then got sick. I never related it to the food until she started with seizures and responding like she was poisoned. I went online to see if any recalls were posted for Pedigree and saw nothing but these complaints and horror stories from other consumers. I wrapped her up in a blanket to take her to my vet. She was so weakened she didn't have the strength to stand but continued to try dragging herself out of the covers because she had peed and had uncontrollably diarrhea where she laid. I have never experienced this trauma of having to watch my poor little dog in so much pain and dying and being so helpless. My vet immediately got her on an iv where she spent the night trying to regain her strength.

The next morning I went to see her and the poor little thing could hardly move her head. Thank God I went to a wonderful and caring vet who knew it was time to let her go as there was nothing at that point to bring her back. This happened 2 weeks ago and I have talked to at least 50 people that I know and don't know about the horrors of M&M Mars and Nestle/Purina Pedigree and Beneful dog food. I will be using Blue the next time I find a connection with another dog. My vet, without knowing the brand of food, said it appeared to be antifreeze poisoning and I can swear that Gizmo has never been near antifreeze.

I do hope that anyone with a pet does some research on the food they feed them. I am so heartbroken that I had not done this before and my poor "little baby" suffered the way she did. Two years ago my Dachshund passed away at age 18 1/2 and thankfully she was being fed special food - Hill's Science Diet for kidney stones. It was expensive but well worth it. Well, we still had 5.5 cans of the wet food left so I began giving it to my two small dogs, Shih-Tzu and Italian Greyhound/Terrier. I mixed their dry food with it; there was more dry than wet. Suddenly, while on the wet food, my Shih-Tzu began having small, runny stool. I initially thought it was worms so I gave her a deworming medication and nothing changed. I took her to my vet, he asked what food she was being fed. I told him and he told me to remove the wet food from her diet and stick with the dry food. I researched the ingredients and found that they use propylene glycol, which is a toxic preservative used in engine coolant. My husband is a mechanic and was appalled to see this used. We changed her food immediately and the seizures stopped and have not happened since.

I have spoken to several people since and they said their dogs had seizures on that food too. I contacted pedigree and asked them why they use propylene glycol and they said it must have been due to accidental contamination. I told them it's written in the ingredients, why do they use it? They never got back to me. That chemical causes seizures, tumors and cancer. Disgusting excuse for a dog food company.

We have two Bichon Frises that are almost 10 years old. For the past 7 years I have given them 1/2 of a Breath Buster every morning after their breakfast. For about the same length of time I have given them each 1 Dentastyx, any flavor, every afternoon. One of my little girls has a problem with getting Struvite Crystals in her bladder and I have to feed her Royal Canin's Urinary Tract dog food, which is VERY high in calories. The vet neglected to tell me this when she prescribed this diet and my little girl gained about a pound within a month. I tried her on Royal Canin's Urinary Low Calorie food but she started having a problem with crystals again, so back to the original.

My other Bichon has been getting Beneful's Healthy Weight dog food since shortly after it hit the market. I feed her this in the morning and I feed the other one about 2/3's of her Royal Canin and 1/3 of the Beneful and at least her weight stays stable and no crystals problem. My other Bichon actually lost a few ounces after I started this diet for her, which is the goal to keep them healthy as they age.

Thankfully I have never experienced any of the problems noted here, but I also see that the other writers are from east of the Rockies. Perhaps that has something to do with the issue if, in fact, it is mold. We don't have enough humidity in the Southwest for mold to be a problem. I always cook up big batches of chicken and rice and separate it into a week's worth portions and freeze until I am ready to use. I add about 2 teaspoons to the girls' food every morning and I have no issues with them throwing up and diarrhea is rare. The girls each get a 1/3 cup of food each morning with water, so the amount of chicken and rice would be based on however much your little ones get fed. NOTE: I started this practice about 4 years ago when both my girls started getting finicky about eating the Royal Canin brand. It worked like a charm and I haven't had a finicky day since.

Also, if your little boys and girls are sick to their tummies feed them canned pumpkin (NOT the pumpkin pie filling) or baked sweet potato instead of Pepto Bismol. This will ease their symptoms. Withhold other food and treats for 24 hours and then start feeding them chicken and rice. Each day add a bit of their regular food back until they are back on their normal diet. For all of you out there that this has happened to, I am so very sorry. It is a horrible feeling when your little ones are sick and you feel helpless and even a bit responsible for their circumstance. I hope all of your babies have recovered well.

I lost my best friend, a Doberman, 4 years ago because of something in the Pedigree dog food. I wrote my story about it either here or on another similar site, but I can't seem to find it. I keep seeing some people say good things about Pedigree products and all I can say is that they have been lucky so far that their dogs are still well. I fed my dog dry Pedigree for years without problems, until my dog got seriously sick from eating it. He recovered after being on prescription dog food from the vet after two weeks.

At that time, I never suspected that Pedigree made him sick, I thought he had a stroke. When I fed him the same Pedigree dog food again, I realized it was what made him sick. He ate less than a handful and the next morning had heavy drool pouring out of his mouth. He was too weak to recover from this second poisoning and died the next day. I believe whatever the poison or contaminant that is in the dog food is not uniformly distributed in the bag. The dog can eat half the bag before getting to the bad pieces of food. The Pedigree company should check their processing machines to see if any chemicals or rotten bits of food are being put into the bags. Then I had another experience with their canned dog food, upon opening them, there were a mass of live worms in them.

The other day a piece of one got stuck in the hinge of her jaw, jamming her mouth open. I couldn't get it out - it had welded itself to her back teeth. After fifteen minutes and much distress for her, it eventually came loose. I went out and bought a new bag of Pedigree Dentastix (with a different batch number). I gave her one from the new bag the following evening - and the same thing happened again, but this time it welded her mouth shut. It took some time to get it loose - I don't know if it has caused any damage to her teeth or jaw, as she's not been so keen on eating since then.

I was horrified by the whole experience and wrote to advise Pedigree of what had happened. And to-date, have had no response at all (almost a fortnight later). It's tricky to find their UK address, which is not on their website (they're owned by Mars) - I had to go to the Companies House website to find their address as I didn't want to end up talking to someone in a call center and find the complaint wasn't registered, I wanted to lodge an official complaint. I'm now buying her crunchy Arden Grange biscuits instead - around the same price but highly unlikely to weld her teeth together.

My Yorkie had often had seizures while we fed him Beneful Dry dog food. When we switched him to Science Diet canned food the seizures stopped. One evening last week we had run out of the Science Diet food so we stopped at Publix to find anything to hold him over and we bought Pedigree Canned meat "Filet Minon Flavor". He had his usual portion which he ate well. I thought maybe we found a less expensive option at $0.87/can. Well what a MISTAKE!!! Within 15 minutes he was throwing up everything he ate and had the runs. He threw up 4 times hat night and again in the morning. He was lethargic but when I brought him his regular Science Diet he seemed back to normal. But yesterday he would not eat and then all of a sudden he had pooped in the house and threw up bloody/mucus everywhere. It was horrifying.

We rushed him to the vet and there was no question it was due to this food. $250 later he is still on antibiotics and a bland diet. He has had 1 more bloody stool incident and as of right now we are in wait and see mode. His energy seems to be returning and he did muster up an appetite for a few bites of the bland food. I am absolutely SHOCKED that there are this many complaints about this brand and that they are still on store shelves. This is ridiculous.

My black lab who will be 10 next month has eaten this food for a while now. For the last few weeks he has cut way down on how much he ate, and now hasn’t eaten anything for 2 days. He has lost 16-17 pounds now too. Very visible weight loss. Gave him some canned food in small amounts and he has kept it down. Just isn’t eating like he was, more clingy, wants to go out a lot more now, just not right. He goes to the vet Monday morning and hope we find out what’s going on. After reading these reviews, it made my heart sink, knowing I was feeding him this food and that there is a good chance this is what’s causing his issues. Just seems to fit the problems and patterns in a lot of the other reviews.

I got a bag from a friend. It was the chicken flavor. I gave my dog one bowl of this and she was sick for 24hrs. She started getting sick early the next morning. She had vomiting and diarrhea though vomiting was the worse. This was well above diet change issues. I called my vet that evening and he said to not feed dinner and do rice in the morning and to toss the food. After fasting her for 24hrs, even during this time she was throwing up water and bile, she seems better this morning. She has held down the plain brown rice I gave her.

I have never seen a reaction like this to one bowl of food in my pets or anyone's I have worked with. The only difference was the food I gave her the night before. Now that it is all out of her system she seems to be getting better. I am definitely not going to try it again just to make sure. I was up till almost 3am cleaning up after her every time she got sick and letting her out. We are getting her grain free food she normally eats today. This dog can normally eat anything with no problem but apparently not this food.

I've been feeding our dog, Sunny, Pedigree dry dog food for years and have had no problems but that changed recently. When she was fed from a 20.4# bag of adult chicken flavor food, she became lethargic and had blood in her stools. She was taken to a vet who proclaimed that she had a bacterial infection related to food. We followed the advice of the vet and put her on a rice and ground beef diet. She healed. As we had not supplemented her dry food before this, we wondered if Pedigree might be the cause. (Had she eaten something on a walk that we weren't aware of?) Just to be sure, we gave her a little bit more of the food and the same problems returned. I have written to Pedigree asking to be reimbursed for the vet bill, the ground beef and rice, and that bag of dog food.

I cooked her some soup with rice and chicken. She ate it all and got better.

Anyway, a week later of cooked food and we decided to feed her Pedigree dog food again. Well guess what. She vomited the dry food. You could see the kibble chunks in her vomit. We want to call Walmart and complain. If my dog was a weaker breed, she could've possibly fell even more ill. My dog is my baby, I don't want other people having their dogs Sick. On the 27th of February, I brought Pedigree Dentastix and fed them to my two Jack Russel Shih Tzu mix dogs that are almost 2 years old. Very soon they both got diarrhea and this went on for about a week. They would wake my wife and I at all hours during the night because they had to go the bathroom. We knew it could not be the food because they eat Freshpet dog food. So in order to combat the diarrhea, we gave them rice water to help them. Thankfully this did work and they are back to normal now.

However, I knew that it was the Dentastix and I only wish that I read these reviews before I gave my two 4-legged kids any. The thing is the Dentastix's expiration date was many months away; however, there was something in them that is not good. I am just glad I caught it in time and stop giving them to my dogs because it probably could have killed them.

I already talked to Pedigree and I called my grocery store from where I got them to explain what has happened. I got a call back from my grocery store manager and he wants me to bring all the products that I brought, both the used and unused, so they can send it in and check it. Moreover, I called my veterinarian about this product and he pretty much said to stay away from this brand. Reading these reviews is disturbing and Pedigree is clearly selling bad products. Pedigree Chicken flavor dog food got all my dogs sick. I have 2 Black Labs and 2 Chihuahuas all got sick after eating this stuff after 3 days. I found mold on the food after I realized my dogs got sick. I just bought this bag last week and I store the dog food in my house not a garage as most do. The fact is, the dog food was moldy when I bought it. I contacted Pedigree by email and haven't heard a word yet from them.

After heard about the over 3000 pet death reports about Purina dog food, I decided to stop buying Purina products. If you go into Walmart you will find that just about everything Walmart sells in dog food is made by Purina. It was a task to find a dog food not made by Purina. I bought this Pedigree and now my dogs are sick from eating it. Vomiting and diarrhea. Seems no pet food is safe anymore for your pets.

What is the cause of the mold in the dog food? It's not how I store it! I'm sure Pedigree and Purina has health inspections all the time. What my thinking is, it's not Purina Or Pedigree, it's the stores that sells the dog food is my thinking how the dog food gets moldy. Walmart has about 2000 bags of dog food on their floor. That dog food seats in Walmart until buyers buy it all. Walmart only pays their employees $7 a hour if they're lucky. A $7 a hour employee isn't gonna bust his or her butt in moving all that dog food in a proper place. And I'm sure health inspectors care less about dog food at Walmart to care how Walmart stores their dog food. The killers that's killing our pets is the stores, how they store the dog food. Walmart example is made of concrete, concrete causes moisture. I think all the stores that sells/stores dog food needs investigated on how they are storing their food.

I have had cats and dogs my whole life and never had any major medical problems with any of them. Take them for their shots, have them checked out, and do the regular pet owner responsibilities. In the last few years (since 2006) we have adopted 4 dogs. One we adopted to family and the other 3 we kept. All dogs ate Pedigree. About a year ago my beagle started staying with my in-laws while my husband worked in the area. They switched his food to Blue. He did great on it, but it was more expensive than Pedigree, so when my husband transferred, we switched him back. Within days he was bleeding, diarrhea, and vomiting. He went back to the vet and was put on medication for a while. He now is on Blue again and back with my in-laws.

I also have a Shepard and a Lab. I don't feed them treats, I don't allow them chew toys or stuffed animals. They eat their food (Pedigree) and may have some bread from time to time (mostly just pizza crust). In December 2014 my Shepherd started acting odd. She seemed to have a small seizure and I called the vet. She came in and I was told she has fluid on her abdomen. They drained the fluid and tested her for everything they could think of. The only thing they could tell me is that her liver was so tiny that she is probably in liver failure. They gave me some liver-type dog food from science diet (L/P) and a bunch of medication that is suppose to help her liver. I take her in every week - two weeks to have her abdomen drained and have to refresh the supplies every couple weeks.

From December - now (beginning of March) I have spent over 2 thousand dollars at the vet and still owe them somewhere about 500 more. I have tried to test out a couple things. I tried to feed her the Pedigree again one morning, and her stomach swelled up before she was done eating 1/2 the bowl. I switched dog food for a little while to a better type of dog food, and she seemed to do fine. I have bought a lower protein type food and she loves it. Both types of new dog food does not seem to make her retain fluid. She acts perfectly fine normally, but she hates going to the vet and gets nervous. She needs to be put under to be drained because she won't relax and then has another medication to come out of it. That normally tires her out for the rest of the day but is outside acting like a puppy every other moment.

I don't know if she is doing better medically yet, it's too soon, but I definitely believe its Pedigree that caused this. No dog treats, no other type of foods, no major changes to anything. After the Purina issues, I started searching online and found others have had the same issues I have while their dog was on Pedigree - I'm pretty upset. My Lab is a tank so he doesn't seem affected, but I'm not going to risk it. My Shepard is like Lassie. She follows me EVERYWHERE, and I will be lost if she doesn't make it through this. I'll add a picture of the the new dog foods, prescriptions, and the lot number of the last bag of Pedigree I bought and that I won't finish.

At about 10 pm that same evening, after putting her in her crate to sleep...she usually doesn't make a peep til morning...she began frantically scratching on the crate door to be let out. I took her outside and she had a bowel movement. I put her in her crate again but she wouldn't settle down and an hour later she started scratching and whining to be let out again. We went through this process several times throughout the night. Today she was very agitated and shaking. She produced 2 more bowel movements outside and had an accident inside which though still solid it was softer than usual. She seemed to calm down and a few hours later I had to go pick my daughter up so I put her in our bathroom with her bed and some toys and a small bowl of water.

After I left my 15 yr old son came home to find the bathroom floor covered in diarrhea and vomit. She'd even managed to go in the tub as well and her bed was covered in what I am assuming is foamy bile. I cleaned the poor baby up and kept her by my side this whole evening. She hasn't eaten anything since the Pedigree last night. I didn't feed her this morning because I was hoping to give her stomach time to settle so she'd feel better and even with no food she only got worse. We usually joke that she's got a cast-iron stomach since she'll eat anything and never has a problem, unlike most small dogs that when you change something about their diet they get diarrhea.

I've never seen anything like this before with her so I thought I'd check online to see if there were any complaints about the Pedigree line of foods. I'm glad I did. I'm hoping we dodged a bullet since she only ate that one bowl of this horrible food. If this is the kind of reaction a 6 lb pup can have to about a half cup of this stuff I'm amazed there aren't more horror stories on here. I'm so sorry for all of you that have gone through such heartbreaking trauma with your babies and especially to those of you who lost your loves. I generally switch off between Pedigree and dog chow by Purina. However they have been on Pedigree for a while. After feeding Rex on 2/14/15 Rex became ill very lethargic, vomiting, hunched at the shoulders and hips thinking maybe stomach virus. As the day went on his condition declined, labored breathing. Took him to emergency vets - high temp of 105+. He was admitted. IV fluids and antibiotic given along with pain high dosages of pain medication. Could not touch his abdomen without him screaming in pain. Went over several questions with vet what he ate, did he get into something etc...

Nothing clicked for me. However the thoughts did he get poisoned we were looking for answers or to the probable cause. He spent 24 hrs in ER hospital and then was taken to another hospital in the city where he could have ultra sound done. There he was admitted - also his condition seemed to have worsened. Ultrasound came back with possible problems with pancreas and liver. Again concerns of what he ate etc... Rex continued to decline now. Too weak for surgery he would not survive. There was no choice I had to have him euthanized. The suffering this dog went thru is heartbreaking to say the least. There hasn't been a day I haven't cried over the loss of my beloved Rex.

The food possible cause certainly crossing the minds of many. Since his death my focus is on Riley - vow to make my own dog food. I had mixed a small amount of Pedigree with Riley's food. Although showing no symptoms like Rex, one week later after Rex's death, Riley now has become sick with bloody stools. I immediately took him to the vet put him on antibiotics and is at home resting. I will continue to monitor him. I have not feed him anymore Pedigree.

I am thinking of having the rest of the Pedigree analyzed for possible poison contamination. If we have learned anything these animals we love and devote our time to deserve nothing but the best we can give them. I will no longer use big name dog food of any kind. I can't put my trust into anyone of these companies. Reading all these reviews I am so sadden over the loss of all these beloved animals - it is so heartbreaking. I love my dogs. I will be in charge of making my dogs' food.

I had been mixing my dog's dry food (Taste of the Wild) with Pedigree canned Chicken & Rice for the past 2-3 months. I ran out of her dry food and for 2 weeks I fed her the Pedigree canned food without the dry. Gradually she was eating less and less. She was sleeping more than usual, and the day before she died, she did not eat at all, by the late evening she was very lethargic and early (5am) the following morning she passed. I am convinced it was the Pedigree dog food that poisoned her to her death. I still have the last can she ate from, in my fridge, and will freeze it or otherwise, once advised by the proper authorities. If the batch number (2 different numbers stamped on the bottom of the can) or the barcode is needed, I can provide if requested.

We started feeding our 3 dogs Pedigree adult nutrition dog food about 1 yr ago and didn't have problems until about 3 months ago. We noticed that our middle dog {Collie-Border Collie] started throwing up. Now mind you all 3 of our dogs have been healthy up until this. I asked our Vet and he said to immediately take them off Pedigree dog food and put them on Purina dog food. To go back our oldest dog {Jack Russell} and had had no health problems until this. We also have a female Jack Russell that we had just rescued and was giving her pedigree dog food. We noticed that all 3 dogs were throwing up, our male Jack Russell had really bad diarrhea, throwing up and losing weight at a very quick rate. We noticed they were all 3 very sick and spoke with our Vet and he said take them off Pedigree immediately. Our male Jack Russell was almost emaciated and we thought he was just old and dying until I spoke with our Vet!

We noticed that our Collie-Border Collie had started having mini seizures and immediately took her to the Vet and she has been on seizure meds for 1 month but now seizures have gotten worse and we are scheduled to go back to Vet to do more testing to treat these. Our dogs were healthy babies no medical issues until they ate pedigree adult dog food. I wood advise anyone feeding their dogs [their babies] PEDIGREE DOG FOOD TO IMMEDIATELY STOP! Talk to your Vet as we did because we almost lost all 3, mostly male Jack Russel and now we have a Collie-Border Collie that was healthy before Pedigree dog food. Now she is in a lot of pain and dealing with Seizure!!

This really upsets us that our dogs {OUR BABIES} ARE HAVING TO DEAL WITH HEALTH ISSUES because of a product that we trusted and almost killed all 3 of our BABIES!! Update on our male Jack Russell is that he has gained his weight back since taking him off pedigree dog food and is eating, drinking and doing better!! I have some pedigree dog food left that will be going to our Vet and a lot of testing WILL BE DONE!! PLEASE DO NOT FEED YOUR DOGS PEDIGREE DOG FOOD, WARNING!!

So my Yorkie had 6 puppies and when they were ready to eat puppy chow we gave them Pedigree canned puppy food. When our first puppy died, we thought he had gotten into some rat poison lying in our kitchen, but we soon refuted that observation due to the fact that they were so small and would die immediately. Then another puppy died. She was taken to the vet and they said that it was due to dehydration, but when they looked at her further they said they had no clue what was wrong. They said it was probably depression. Now another of our puppies are getting sick and we know why.

Every time we feed them they began to throw up and since those two were the smallest they got sick first. This food caused two of our puppies to become sick and die. After reading many reviews, I see that many of their symptoms are the same as my pups. They became sick after eating their food, wouldn't eat until they were starving, became lethargic, weak, and then suddenly died. I hope that for future references that the company will look through these reviews and fix the problem. Our puppies died from your products!!!

I had 3 healthy dogs at home. Rex was the eldest at 6 yrs. old. The other 2 are the daughters at 5 yrs. old. Approximately 1 week ago, I purchased Pedigree Vitality + Original Flavor (Vital Pocket) at Walmart in town and now my beautiful pal is dead. He died 4 days ago, and I noticed that my two lovely girls were refusing to eat their food. One of them has diarrhea. Today, I noticed they were not eating even after exercises, which was very abnormal as they are strong eaters. It was then that decided to verify if there were complaints online re- Pedigree and specifically the dry type. This led me to this website and after reading numerous complaints from other pet owners who lost their dogs soon after switching to Pedigree Vitality + Original Flavor (Vital Pocket), I have no doubts that my Rex who just passed away died from Pedigree Vitality + Original Flavor (Vital Pocket) that I bought.

P.S. I removed the remaining portion of the Pedigree Chicken Bag and am holding it for lab analysis if required. You see, my Rex had a healthy portion of that Pedigree and shortly after, he was sick several times but unable to really empty his stomach. I had just let him outside to continue his stomach purging and after a few minutes I noticed he was appearing to become paralyzed. I called him in but he would not move, very disconcerting, so I left him out about another 4-5 minutes and then ordered him in since it really cold out here at this time.

He then ran into the kitchen, laid down with labored breathing, and just passed away. This beautiful, beautiful dog, inside and out was a picture of health. I do not have proof that the Pedigree food is the culprit, but I truly and sincerely feel that this is exactly what killed him and part of me... Is there anything that can be done, so that this food is seriously investigated?

P.S. I will never buy any Pedigree product until I know their food is safe. Please, please... This goes to other pet owners, if you really care about your dog then make sure your pet food is not killing them. I acquired my Rex (a Tervuren Belgian Shepherd) in 2008 as a baby. He was the most closest connection I ever had, even including human relationships. I have lost half of my heart.

I fed my German Shepherd, Ziva, Pedigree dog food. It was nothing fancy, just regular dry adult dog food in a 46ish pound bag. I started feeding it to her around January or February 2014, when I noticed she all but refused to eat the Purina I fed her. All was well until in April. I moved back to my mom's, and shortly after my mom saw Ziva's first seizure. We got her on meds for the seizures, thinking she was just epileptic, and kept feeding her the same Pedigree her whole life. The meds helped, but never stopped the seizures.

In October, she had three seizures in one day, the last one lasting 15 hours! And we had to put her down. I never would've thought it could be the food that was causing them, and I wish I had, maybe she'd still be here if I started feeding her something else. I'm not going to say the food caused her seizures without a doubt, but after reading all these other reviews with dogs seizing after starting on Pedigree, I'm kind of suspicious. I'm going to be switching my terrier off of pedigree as soon as possible, and will never again feed it to a dog, just in case the food IS poison.

She ate it fine for a while then we got some cans that had a strong odor and she did not seem to like it. I thought they had changed the formula but got new cans and they didn't smell or look the same. I have called the company at 18005255273 to see if any complaints or recalls had been reported. The lady that I spoke with said "no we haven't had any complaints." She asked for the information from the bad smelling cans but I had thrown them away so no complaint was logged.

She took my name and address to send coupons but I will be changing food. My vet recommends Purina, royal canine, or science diet. I will be getting one of those. Someone else on this posting had contacted them as well and they reported no complaints. If you have an issue use the number and report the problem. They need to be aware of the problems they are causing these sweet animals. I have seen, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of energy, foul breath, urinating and defecating in the house that didn't happen before (inability to hold bowel/urine), feces that are runny and sometimes look reddish and suspect weight loss.

My dog acts as though she doesn't want to eat most of the time so I will change to one of the recommended brands above gradually to see it she improves. We will probably also see the vet in a week to check her. I do not recommend this food to be fed to your furry friends. I agree with someone else that posted a class action might get their attention, especially in the cases the animal has died. No more pedigree!!!!!! Both dogs had to be put down one week apart in May of 2014. It is heartbreaking to think we actually lost our otherwise healthy babies due to a dog food we had used for years. They were our children and treated as such. Our malti also got sick and the vet could not figure out what was wrong but kept her in ICU for two days, giving her IV fluids and pulling all food. She also changed her diet to I/D. She did not eat for almost a month when she got home. We nearly lost her and paid $1,250.00 to the vet.

We finally nursed her back to health and pulled all Pedigree product from our two remaining dogs and all was well until we started giving them Pedigree dental chews about two months ago. Black tarry stools with blood in both dogs. They loved the dental stix but after removing them from diet they returned to normal. Will never use a Pedigree product again. I noticed as soon as I opened it that it smelled like rancid oil. I also noticed that the food in the bag no longer looked like the picture. Max sniffed her bowl and walked away. Against my better judgement I mixed it with what was left of the Beneful and she kind of picked at it. That was my first thought that maybe the food had caused her illness. After only two days she was losing weight rapidly and once again has no energy or appetite. I will not feed her Pedigree again, especially after finding out so many other dog owners have experienced the same exact scenario.

Several months ago I began to feed my goldens a mix of dry and canned pedigree beef chunks. They were always excited about feeding when I picked up the can. I accidentally picked up chicken and both dogs had diarrhea thereafter. Returned for the beef chunks and all was good. The last few weeks, they have ignored their food. Bought blue wilderness for a change of flavor. Ate it just fine. Switched back to pedigree. They ate but one of my pups is now lethargic and not going out to use the bathroom. Nor has he eaten the last few days. The other pup hasn’t eaten much the last few days and today refused the pedigree mix. Both dogs sniffed today’s food and turned away. So I bagged the food. Washed the bowl and put out new canned blue wilderness food. Ailing dog still not eating ...the other ate right away. Something is wrong with the pedigree food. Happened here in the last couple of months. Please find out what is wrong. Freezing bagged food if you need it.

Got online to look at reviews to see that not only have multiple people reported diarrhea/sickness from the same type of dog food (55 lb bag and all) but that one other person had THE SAME EXACT experience as me (diarrhea, vet, antibiotics, dry food reintroduction, diarrhea again). He laid down and went to sleep, his belly popping & making noises. Ten minutes after he fell asleep, he sits straight up, body stiff, teeth clenched and a strange look on his face. OMG! He's having a seizure. I screamed! It lasted around 1-2 minutes. He was very exhausted and did not eat for a day and a half! I then gave him another of the stackerz treat. Again, within 30 minutes he had another seizure! This time he threw up, looking pitiful. I thought he was being poisoned by those treats. I threw them in the trash! I actually read the bag yesterday and was very surprised to see that I was feeding a chicken based product. I have fed beef products for years. I understand it's all about the money, but Pedigree should have made a HUGE statement on the bag that the protein was now being derived from chicken. My older lab mix seems to have less energy and drier hair coat on this formula than on the beef. I have started adding oil to the diet to help with itching.

He then began to have horrible seizures, and then died. Not knowing what happened, I continued to feed the 3 remaining pups the pedigree canned puppy food and 5 days later it happened again. The puppy acted as though she was tired for a day or 2 and then she started having seizures, and died the same day. The next day the third puppy started to lose energy and sleep more often than not. During this time, I found that my dogs developed an irritating itch on their back and head etc which they scratched until raw. I visited a vet who informed me it could be a food or environmental allergy. As a result I started cutting out ALL processed foods (Including DentalStix) over several weeks, also maintaining a spotless home and keeping the dogs away from grass and pollen, where possible. This strategy paid off, as the allergy symptoms of both dogs decreased by around 90%.

Last week, as my dogs were doing so well, I thought to try a quarter medium size stick as a reward (I must mention these were one of their favorite bed-time snacks). To my horror, a day later my dogs started severely itching their back and head, worse than I have ever seen before! This is WITHOUT A DOUBT due to the DentalStix which I stupidly fed them. Never again. They have scratched/bitten themselves raw over the past week and I am doing everything in my power to rectify the problem which I caused. Please be aware of the artificial and filler materials added to over-priced 'Healthy' dog food and snacks, which can cause your dog internal and external injury.

It started when I ran out of the Purina brand I had feed them for a couple months and at the last minute I picked up a 5lb bag of Pedigree to make it through till pay day. That week they ate it up, but I began to notice that they both were sneezing and scratching more than usual. I gave them some Claritin hoping that would help. They are taking their time to get used to it, but I know it's better for them. It does cost more for these types of food but I'd rather pay a little bit more now for a high quality food than have to pay the vet later to diagnose, treat or heaven forbid put them down for an illness that could have been prevented by simply feeding them better food. He was energetic all throughout his life. During the past few years I experimented with other dog food and he would have runny stool and such so I would switch him again after awhile. The reason I got away from Pedigree was due to the facts I have been reading about corn, GMO's, and such and I also figured the dog food with main ingredients like lamb, beef, chicken, etc would be healthier.

I eventually found a great dog food for him, Kirkland Super Premium Mature Dog Food. The first few ingredients: Lamb, lamb meal, whole grain brown rice, white rice, rice bran, egg product, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat..... He was fine on this for a while and maintained a good weight. One day, almost two weeks ago, I decided to try Pedigree again because it was cheaper and when he was younger it was fine. I thought he was fine on it after a week because he was eating it up, so no big deal. Then one day I came home from work and saw he didn't touch his food. Like others described on this website, he got diarrhea, refused to eat, and would only drink water.

Since he was drinking water I figured he probably got sick from eating something he shouldn't have (he was known to get into things he should be eating like the trash). The next two days he only ate a handful of some chicken the family was eating and that was it. I had to force down pedialyte with a syringe the next two days to keep him going but it was too late. On day three of not eating he passed away. One week he was fine, about a week after changing to Pedigree he was sick and passed away. You make the call.

Its first ingredient is ground whole corn which is difficult for dogs to digest and is often the cause of allergies. It has many colors and dyes. Why? It's unnecessary and can cause problems for dogs. The fifth ingredient is animal fat. Animal fat is a generic by-product of rendering, the same high-temperature process used to make meat meals. Since there's no mention of a specific animal, this item could come from almost anywhere: roadkill, spoiled supermarket meat, dead, diseased or dying cattle even euthanized pets.
