Four years ago I bought a case of Pedigree canned food at a local Costco store. All cans are sealed. I opened one can and found a circular mold growing on top. Now this is in a sealed can! I placed the open can in a plastic bag until I was able to write to the company (Masterfoods, aka M&M Mars). Within five days the mold grew 5 times the size, I separated it from the rest of the product and shipped it to the address listed on the can. Pedigree's response was, sorry and gave me a coupon for more Pedigree food. I have not bought another Pedigree product since then.

I am not surprised about the illness of these dogs. Obviously this company does not care enough to test their products or production lines for microbiological outbreaks.

When I got my first Boxer in 1996, I got a free bag of Pedigree puppy food. He started to vomit and had terrible diarrhea. I discontinued this dog food after only a couple of days. Once I changed foods, the vomiting and diarrhea stopped. This was almost 20 years ago.

July 31, 2013 my dog suddenly started to lick his paws and had a hard time walking without falling over.. thought he had injured his paws and was licking them from the pain.. took to vet, started antibiotic treatment.. He stopped eating so I carefully put Pedigree can dog food in his mouth so the antibiotics wouldn't upset his stomach.. He was not doing well, so I switched to cooked turkey and pureed it and gave him that for almost two weeks.. He was showing some improvement and the antibiotics were done but he still didn't want to eat or run around but could walk to go to relieve himself outside. I then pureed his food with another can of Pedigree, and in hours was in terrible shape so thought it was lack of antibiotics, so started another round of it. But it didn't help.

I had also a few days earlier got him tested with DNA to see what was going on. They said he had pesticides in his system. I don't use any pesticides or lawn fertilizer at all. Another vet visit with blood work showed serious problems. Next day he couldn't lift his head or move on his own.. He died a few hours later in my arms just after a bloody anal discharge. I am having the last can that still has most of the pedigree tested but I know what it will show.. PEDIGREE KILLED MY MALTESE DOG. Others had said the same thing happened to their dog recently from Pedigree after I had been posting how sick Bailey was.

February 2013 Lost our baby Zoro - It was a Thursday night and we noticed Zoro (turned 11 the week before) had not been eating and was lethargic. We said well maybe he just has a little bug. By Friday, he started vomiting yellow and diarrhea looked black and he smelled so strongly like ammonia. After an intense internet search, he showed all the signs of end stage kidney failure. It was too late to do anything for our little man. He passed away on Monday, poor little guy. I wonder what is everyone's time frame on their pet's illness. Was it around the same time as our dogs? I hope someone finds out what happened.

We bought a Toy Pom and initially just had her on pellets but bought the little sachets of Pedigree puppy as a treat. Approx. three days later, she started having diarrhea (black stool) and vomiting. She could not get up and looked like she was having fits. We rushed her to the vet where she stayed for three days on a drip. As we were not sure if it was something in the environment or change of diet that made her sick, we put her back onto only pellets the Monday after her release. By Thursday, we started feeding her a little of the Pedigree again and lo and behold, the same symptoms appeared. This time she was in hospital for a week and nearly died. Coincidence? I think not. Every pet owner plans to spend some bucks on an animal during the course of its life but within two weeks our cost (not that you can put a price tag on a life) has been R 9000.00.

We feed digestion formula to our 18 year old Boston/pug Harley, and to my little popo wawa Benz. The little guy never liked it and would turn away but Harley has been the one that has suffered. He has had severe stool problems along with the throwing up right after eating. We've now gone back to the lamb and rice from another really good company. Fortunately this has given me a lot of answers to my questions and hopefully it will help in us getting him better. And thanks for the Info on this, I hope it saves more dogs. It has ours.

I had Two Labrador Retrievers whose worth is over 2500 a piece. Both became very ill on the Pedigree Large Breed Dry Dog Food. Diarrhea, vomiting, blood in stool, lethargic, refused food and water, bleeding from rectum. First one I forced fluids and he would drink a little on his own. He recovered but still has major digestive issues. The other, Camo, would not eat or drink, wouldn't even swallow when I used a syringe to give water. He died after suffering, seizing, and being in pain. It was horrible. Never again will I ever use anything that has the word Pedigree on the packaging. It almost killed me having to treat and take care of these dogs. Never again!!! And before anyone asks, yes they had their vaccinations and no, it was not PARVO.

I have fed Pedigree to my Dogs many Years…I trusted them frankly because it was actually made in the US not China...3 of my 4 Schnauzers became very ill - throwing up and diarrhea…Leyla and Lugger never hide their illness so I knew quickly there was an issue. The one dog who did not get sick was Sugar, my diabetic Schnauzer who is on prescription food…Hubby had asked why poo in the yard was black. I thought it was just from drying out in the sun. (If I only knew then what I know now) After Leyla and Lugger started throwing up with diarrhea, I switched them over to Sugars RX food thinking they may just have a little stomach upset and the diabetic food is easier on digestion, within days the symptoms cleared up.

Lulu would not touch the diabetic food so never thinking it could be the Pedigree, I kept feeding Lulu the Pedigree she loved. Within a few days she started throwing up and then stopped eating, and diarrhea was pure red blood. Rushed her to the vet...x-rays showed enlarged spleen, liver and colon…Vet gave her Metronidazole and switched her to Science diet prescription diet ID...within days the symptoms cleared…still not thinking. It was the Pedigree. I didn't want to waste the cans I had so I started feeding to my Livestock Guardians…

Great Pyrenees a can in the evening as a small treat (these are huge dogs) so a small can is just a little treat...within two days black Diarrhea and loss of appetite. Stopped the pedigree immediately…started them on homemade rice and chicken...Symptoms all clear within days...After reading all the reviews/complaints and my own horrible experience it is well past time that Pedigree look into this!!!!!!!! I have Vet records, xrays, bloodwork , photos, and several cans left of the Pedigree for testing.

I have 2 large dogs that normally cannot wait until feeding time...I have been feeding my dogs Pedigree for YEARS!!! Have noticed lately they were not as happy when it's time for feeding...I just thought that maybe they were being somewhat finicky, but I should have known something was wrong. This has been happening for over a month. This morning I fed them & one of my dogs ate just about 2 mouthfuls, walked away & proceeded bring up the food he had just tried to eat.

I then went online & typed Pedigree in my search engine & immediately the first option that popped up was "Pedigree recalls". Scared ME!!!! After reviewing some of the info, Pedigree is not taking any blame in selling bad food. I for ONE believe that there is something terribly wrong with it. I RETURNED the food & purchased a new brand & guess what??? They scarfed it down with no problem. I WILL NEVER BUY MY DOGS THIS BRAND EVER AGAIN & I will in the future be on the lookout for any problems that show up especially the brand I am & now using!!

DO NOT throw the bags of Pedigree away if you believe that they caused illness to your dogs!!! Please keep the food as "evidence"!!! There are numerous ways to have the food tested for contamination. Keep part of the food along with the original bag (because it has lot number, sell-by date, etc. on it) crucial to an investigation. Contact the Pedigree manufacturer and let them know you are sending a small portion to them (in a ziplock bag) to be tested. Do not send them the bag even if they ask for it.

Do not stop there. Contact the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and let them know the facts. Ask them where you can send another sample of food to be tested. (I cannot list phone numbers as it is against this sites policy). Keep all of your vet records and inform your vet of what you’re doing. The portion of food you keep, place in a safe location where people or animals cannot reach it. Mark it unsafe, but do not throw it away! We are going to need to fight this to get some help.

Please do your part to force the manufacturer to investigate this further. Something is making these dogs very ill and the symptoms are nearly exact...vomiting yellow bile and bloody diarrhea. Many people have said their animals hesitated to eat the food and the food looked brighter, shinier than normal. Read through all 300 reviews. This isn't a coincidence. Please pet lovers, do your part to fight this and demand an in-depth investigation at Pedigree, Mars Inc. Keep calling the manufacturer until something is resolved. More needs to be done before additional family pets get sick or die.

Y'all can lie all y'all want saying Pedigree isn't killing the animals. My dog has been on Pedigree since she was old enough to eat on her own. She was 13 months old when I bought a new bag 20.4 lbs Adult Complete Nutrition and she was perfectly fine until the 3rd day on this food. I woke to a horrible smell and I checked my dog. There was black poop everywhere. I knew it had to be old blood.

I took her outside, put her by a fan with fresh water and food, and went back in to cleaning the house. It was 3 am. I knew it was too late because of the poop and because she could barely walk to get outside. She died at exactly 3am the next morning after being unconscious for several hours. I didn't know what happened until a few days later, I decided to feed my neighbor's cats some of the food everyday until it was gone instead of just throwing it away. First feeding more, then half the cats wouldn't even touch it. The next day, cats were lying around in the road and my yard everywhere, very sick and sunken in.. They had had fresh blood on the back sides.

I realized right away that it was the food killing these animals. I put table food out to get them to eat and fresh water. 2 of the cats died within hours. They couldn't eat or drink just like my dog. The others, it's been about 2 weeks now and they are eating a little more food each day and moving around again. I have the bag and a good bit of food left in it. My dog was more special than other dogs because I have a 6 year old who has Ushers (born deaf and going blind) and also autistic. He is nonverbal and knows very little signs. My other son is 7 and he has Ushers Syndrome also (born deaf and going blind). This dog was their world. They didn't have to fit in and be normal with their best friend.

I can't even find enough words to tell you how their world is now so empty. Yes, I will get another dog, but it will have to be a puppy and start all over again. There is no way to explain to the 6 year old that his dog is never coming back. To look in his eyes every time he signs "dog", which is several times a day. To y'all, it's just money and a job. After all, it's only animals, but to my children, it was their heart and world y'all stole from them....... I can send you pictures of the bag and also a sample of the food if you would like.

I've just come upon this information about Pedigree Dry Dog food, but I've had my suspicions for quite a while now. Some years ago the dry dog food had little soft filled squares in the food. My dogs loved them so much that they would pick out the squares and leave the rest. Suddenly, Pedigree stopped making that mixture. I noticed all three of my dogs' teeth began decaying, and I always wondered if that mixture was the culprit. Up until May this year, my dogs have always eaten Pedigree Dry Dog food.

At the beginning of March my 11 pound Pomeranian became ill and was vomiting yellow bile and had loose stool. One night, she had a seizure and fell over. It was terrifying and broke my heart. She couldn't keep any food down. She died in her sleep under my bed 2 days later. I'm still grieving her loss. After my sweet dog died in March, I switched to premium dog food. I have one unopened bag of Pedigree Dry Puppy food, but after reading these reviews, it's going in the trash dumpster in the morning.

I just hours ago lost my little man, Ripley, a ten year old Pomeranian in perfect health. I have raised my four Poms on Nutrience Dog Food for small breed dogs. I ran short of this just a few days ago and picked up a bag of Pedigree Dry Dog food to get me through until I could get the usual brand. My male who was the only one who ate the food took sick within hours of eating this, vomiting, lethargic and then continued with no appetite and less and less energy. With 29 hours of eating this food and no other explanation for his behavior and subsequent death, I did a little checking into it to see if others had any of the same problems/symptoms. So much for the new improved formula of Pedigree.

My dog has ate Pedigree for years! Brudus just passed away on Tuesday August 13, 2013 and after reading all these reviews it got me wondering. Just about 4 weeks ago we noticed he was losing a lot of weight, he stopped eating and got very weak. It got to the point where we would literally have to carry him outside because he didn't have the strength to walk. Brudus was and will always be a part of the family. I am just very saddened by all of this. What made me really think if it was the food is that my younger dog Bella has not been eating much either but she is still active. I need some pointers on what I should do next. I don't know if I should look into it any further or not but I am definitely changing dog food.

I have been feeding this food to our pet a beautiful Lhasa Apso. He has quite frequently of late been vomiting yellow bile and sometimes white. He also is frigidity and gets the shakes on occasion. We have bundled him up when he got like this but there was no need for him to be cold.... Quite recently he has been having black stools. He has had all his shots so he shouldn't be sick. Lately he is shunning his food altogether. I'm glad I found the notice about the food... Definitely will NOT be getting this for him again. Will be making some and trying to find a decent brand. Have read that chicken, rice and veggies are good too. Only small amts. of protein for the small breeds though since too much protein can destroy their livers and make them sick. Maybe there is too much of that in the Pedigree brand? Who knows?

My little Miniature Doxie has eaten Pedigree since she was weaned. They recommended this be continued so I have fed her half dry Pedigree and half canned. I do substitute the canned frequently with the homemade dog food I make for them. I make this to help keep them healthy. Unless Pedigree has really changed the ingredients, they must be doing something right as Heidi is now 12 in October. Her only puppies (three) have always eaten Pedigree as well. IF Pedigree has changed its formula and my dogs start doing worse, I will be looking to change. I do feed Heidi the "healthy joints" at her age and her adult pups get the Mini Morsels dry food. So far/so good... However, if Pedigree has changed its formula and my fur babies get sick, I will be looking to change dog foods immediately.

In May our two shih tzus, Tubby & Kahlua, both started with throwing up for 2 weeks on & off. I thought it was after I gave them a white raw hide bone, can't remember company but yellow bag (I bought at Walmart) it was right after that they started. I took it to the vet when I took them, test after test nothing showed. They were lethargic with dark stool sometimes yellow mustard smelly stool... cost 2,385.98 to find out they had a bacterial infection that can be transferred from human to dog. I'm still not 100% satisfied with their findings, because every now & then both dogs show signs that it's still there laying dormant, with loose stools that are black, throw up now & then but not lethargic. I learned you pinch the back of the dogs neck & twist (doesn't hurt them). The slower the skin falls the more dehydrated they are & may need intervenes (if it's slow), being now August they are still up & down but have energy.

We fed them, cooked hamburger & white rice, boneless-skinless chicken (which their allergic to but showed no signs when we cooked it, biting their paws I mean when they eat chicken dog food) with rice, plain yogurt, hand feed water into them even put tuna oil or salmon oil into water to try to get them to drink. Throw up was yellow, sometimes white. You could hear their stomach gurgling load... we would rub it up the right side & down the left, trying to help ease it, stomachs were bloated & hard, their eyes looked sick, tails down & between their legs, very sad looking. They just had their needles 2 weeks prior to getting sick as well which left me think could it be from that? Our neighbor has 3 shih tzus they became sick, they too are on Performatrin Puppy. Sasha the mother had 3 beautiful pups & when they were almost 4 weeks old while nursing became sick, all these dogs with the same signs & symptoms, Buddy, Nishka for 2 weeks, all pups 2 weeks, all are fine even the babes now.

But now nearly 2 months later our dogs like I said show signs it still may come back & scare me to death. In the back of my mind I thought could it be the food hearing stories of bad dog foods, but we get ours from the pet store & pay close to $40 a bag, surely they are better or are they? Might take the Performatrin away & see what happens, might just start feeding them hamburger & rice again. These are our babies & they are such a joy, personality plus! Our hearts go out to those who lost their dogs & we are so very sorry for you having to go through this but THANK YOU so much for posting & warning others! I'm taking this to my vet.

She progressively got worse, wasn't drinking or taking down the meds or the food.. She began pooing black and within 24 hrs she was dead in the hallway. I took my "dead" dog to the vet and she said she had been poisoned and was unsure of what because I refused to cut her open. I allowed her to get blood and gave a poo sample. She had what they think was rat poisoning but I have only gave her Pedigree and that is what I believe killed her. I am taking my dog food to the K State Toxicology Center to get it tested.

We recently took our 2 year old lab to the vet because he was acting very strange and started stumbling one morning. They ran a series of test but could not find anything specific. I just stumbled onto this site when I was looking for different forms of illness for canines. After reading down through several post many of the same symptoms were present in our dog, throwing up yellow bile and loose stool. We also have a daughter that has two dogs that are fed Pedigree. One has been fine but the other has been sick with similar symptoms. We changed to a new brand of food two weeks ago and both seem to be back to normal. She started puking up yellow bile and pooping black and blood she was on the brink of death she couldn't even get up she was puking non stop. She finally stopped eating all together. We thought it was parvo but the test was negative. We didn't know what was going on and it happened for a few days before our friend told us that it could be her food. We thought it was because it was dry food and she was allergic to it so we switched her to wet food for a few days and she was back to her normal self.

We decided to try dry food again but a different brand and she was never like this again. She occasionally has runny poop and I feel like she has some long term damage from eating that food. Our healthy Labrador became deathly ill last month. Last month we bought a new bag of Pedigree Dry Dog Food. He is now skin and bones. We've invested over $2,000.00 in vet bills to save our boy, including emergency surgery . We changed his food and when he started to improve we put him back on his old Pedigree dry food and immediately he started vomiting AGAIN. His stool is dark (blood?) and runny. He does NOT have this reaction to a different brand food, only the dry Pedigree... the "new" formula.

We notified Costco (where we bought the food) and will return it and file paperwork for Costco to PULL IT OFF THEIR SHELVES. Our poor boy is now on different food and is responding well at this point. We have notified the 2 vets that saved his life (so far) about this product sickening and killing beloved pets. Why isn't there a recall on this garbage? I will be following this to see if there is a recall and also any class action suit.

A few days ago, my 2 shih tzus (age 2) became violently ill. Projectile vomiting, slimy, yellowish, mucousy. The puddles were so big, it took us over an hour to clean them up. There were still chunks of food in them. Then the diarrhea began, culminating in very bloody, runny stools. Our vet thought it was upset tummies and told us to give Pepto and bits of plain yogurt and to make sure they were hydrated. They were so lethargic, I didn't sleep at all just checking to make sure they were still alive. It seemed to pass and they were active and normal the next day (just not hungry, which was fine b/c we were still feeding only yogurt).

But then, the other puppies we have, also shih tzus began with the exact problem. Thank God, we noticed it early and immediately took away the Pedigree. This is NOT what we usually feed. We live in a rural area and were low on food, so went to local store and got Pedigree dry until we could get to the big city pet store to get their regular food.

My heart is broken to hear of all the pets that have been lost due to this. I am calling my vet right now to have them all checked for any lasting damage this could have caused. I don't even know why I did this, but I told my husband to keep that bag of dog food b/c I felt that it was the cause and we may need to have it checked later. I am SO glad I did this. I will also be contacting an attorney if I find out this stuff made my babies sick.

When my family and I walked in the door late Saturday night, my daughter was the first to about face at the threshold holding her nose. We walked into a scene of a puddle of vomit/bile at the doorframe, and massive amounts of blood covering the entire spence of my kitchen, living room and hallway floor. The lower walls were spattered with blood as well. My Black Lab Missy was crouched to the floor like she had done something bad, her breath carrying the same scent of the blood. I had never seen anything so sad.

It was too late to take her in, so after the hours of scrubbing, mopping and carpet cleaning, we slept a wink and arrived at the Vet Hospital the next morning. The Vet described her illness as Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis. With a much needed hospital stay pumped with IV fluids, medications and three take home medications (including two antibiotics) 4 year old Missy is now much better. From what I hear recently, others have not been so fortunate. After the onset of vomiting and diarrhea, their dogs are dying! Missy had been on Pedigree for a year and I had just recently switched her food. If I had not, she surely would have died and I speculate Pedigree dog food is behind her recent near fatal experience.

I have heard a rumor that there is a class action lawsuit against Pedigree because of this. I am trying to track that down because Duke was my protector and best friend. His loss devastated our family.

It's very watery and this morning his stool is runny too. I've had him since he was 3 weeks old and he hasn't done this before. Does anyone know if the wet food is bad too? Or is it just their dry food? After reading everyone else's stories, I'm now worried about my baby...

My dog Precious was one year and six months. She was a happy and healthy Puggle. She enjoyed playing with my son who has special needs and being a loving dog. July 28th 2013 she died. Within 24 hrs from the time we noticed she was a bit off to the time she died. It started with her being tired and eating grass. We thought she had just ate something somewhere that upset her stomach... then she started shaking nonstop and throwing up. We thought, Oh God Not PARVO. All of the Vets were closed by the time everything happened. Then she started pooping loose stools of blood all over the house. This entire time she looked up at us with sad eyes as though she was doing something wrong because she couldn't make it to the puppy pad.

My husband and I bawled while watching her struggle and told her she was a good girl. Within 4 hours of bloody stools she died. She refused to eat her dog food and even bite me when she clamped her jaw because I tried to force fluids in her. We watched our playful and loving dog die. At 2 am we wrapped her up in her favorite blanket and buried her. We bleached our entire house and threw everything thinking it was Parvo. We had brought home a Labrottie for her to play with a few days before and in those few days they were best friends. The Vet told us if he didn't break in 10 days then it wasn't Parvo. He is fine. None of the other dogs in the area are sick and if you've ever dealt with Parvo then you know how fast it spreads. So that leaves me with the food.

I saw a post on Facebook from someone and my heart dropped. We have always fed our dogs Pedigree until tonight. Never again. I have posted on every news site and shelter that I can think of to get the word out. If you go to their Facebook you can see people posting and asking for answers. If there is a lawsuit I will join. My dog did not deserve this. She was our world. There is a special place in hell for people that do this kind of stuff. Attached is a picture of our Precious. Before she was sick.

My dog had always ate Pedigree. He was seen by our vet and we were told he had kidney problems. The last few weeks of his life, he did not seem to want to eat and was vomiting. Our little Pit bull refused to touch the bag of food... I did not know what to do. Poor Lab seemed to be acting funny. Called a vet and was told if he did not seem any better to bring him in. He then started pissing blood and had loose stool. He seemed very tired. Some time around 230 am, he walked to the hallway and fell over and would not move. I called the vet and he said to bring him in. I called for help seeing as I could not lift my dog. He was very huge.

As my help was on their way, my dog died in my arms. Seemed to be in pain as he cried and then died. I have never in my life ever cried so hard... My little daughter watched this happen to her dog. He laid on our living room floor where he was pulled from the hallway by friends. He laid there for hours on Sunday while we tried to find someone who would cremate him... It got so bad and the smell we had to drag her outside till the place picked her body up to cremate her. HORRIBLE... My pit has been so depressed and to this day will not eat dry food at all. We looked at the dry food. Not even thinking at the time it was a new bag we opened and to our surprise there was mold in the bag. We threw it out. Never once thinking this dog food could have killed our dog...

Until seeing many posts about the signs and symptoms that other dogs are having over this dog food. I had just seen something about a dog dying on Facebook the same as mine did... from just eating Pedigree. Do something. Recall your dog food. For God Sake, you're killing animals...

I had been giving my two Jack Russells Dentastix for the last couple of months and the bones did help with their bad breath. I opened a new bag of bones for them this week and gave them one each before going to work. When I got home, both my dogs had gotten sick all over the house. There was so much mess I couldn't even tell if it was vomit or diarrhea. My older dog, 12, wouldn't get out of bed for 12 hours and wouldn't eat for 2 days. They both seem to have recovered now that it's the 4th day out, but I will not take my chances with Dentastix again. There was no other change in my dog's diet or habits to cause this, and my 12-year-old never gets sick and never messes in the house. She's the one that scared me the most since the younger one does have a sensitive GI system. I have emailed Pedigree with my concerns and am waiting to hear back. Have they changed the formula? Is there a contamination issue? I am hesitant to buy any of their products after reading these reviews.

After purchasing and opening my second bag, it was then that my dog fell so ill, up all night with diarrhea. Unbelievable that I am his 3rd home in his little 7-month life due to "issues" (most likely accidents in the house). He is potty trained and so sad that he has probably been punished due to accidents due to this horrible food. Changed his food immediately and miraculously he is back to his normal self... I had no clue that Pedigree had changed their formula. If so, I have a hard time understanding those people that think it's so important to fix something that ain't broke, as the saying goes. I've had Labrador Retrievers for years and fed them Pedigree. My first one lived to be 13 and developed a malignant tumor and I put her down. My 2nd one, Kelly, was 15, and old age caught her. Then my Maggie was 15 1/2 and was still getting around great, but became very incontinent, so I put her down.

Her son Charger lacked 3 months of being 15 years old and he died over night of natural causes. I still have his daughter Shyanne who is 8. All of the above dogs have eaten Pedigree, both dry & some canned mixed in, all of their lives. Now I'm wondering if the change in their formula is worth the adjustment for them to go through in changing dog food and have them adjust to the new food. I also wonder if I will be the one trying to fix something that ain't broke.

There are 271 (many recent) complaints and no recall - ONLY their canned WET food. I have contacted the local media, and I urge others to do so to help impose the recall on Dry Foods by Pedigree.

Please warn all your friends on Facebook about Pedigree to help save their Fur Babies. I am devastated I didn't know about this earlier. Signs are somewhat lethargic, throwing up, not wanting to eat at all, dizzy...then toward end bloody discharge/stool....all within 24 hours. My dogs were poisoned by Pedigree. It looked like what the others had and I didn't worry too much, until a few hours later when she was sitting in a pool of blood. There was no real fecal matter. Just blood. She was over night in the ER, a day and night in the regular hospital. She was on IV fluid and very sick.

We got her home and as we walked in the door 2 other dogs threw up. They are all 6 of them on an RX diet right now for their GI track and on meds to end the loose/bloody stool. We tested for EVERYTHING. Her for pancreatitis, Liver levels, blood levels, poison, we tested the dirt in the yard! We ran a fecal for any worms or bacteria. We sent a fecal to lab for giardia. After close to $2000.00 in vet bills, I had to put my 9 yr old sweet chocolate lab to sleep last Saturday night. I had bought a new bag of Pedigree food the first week of June. She had one serving of it and then would not touch it. Had always used it and never had a problem. So I bought another brand at the request of my vet. My dog was already sick from the Pedigree. She threw up a couple of days in a row. So back to the vet we went. They drew blood and sent it off. Called me the next day and said she was in Renal Failure.

Again, we switched foods to Purina NF, Hills KD wet and dry. No luck getting her to eat it. They told me to keep her comfortable and feed her anything she would eat. This went on for about 2 weeks. The vet checked her current blood work against blood work done in November 2012 and there was no problem in November’s labs compared to the current. They said with the significant numbers she had, it would have been common in a dog who had progressive kidney disease. Katie was diagnosed as end stage Kidney failure!

Last Monday we returned to the vet and she stayed 3 days getting constant IV fluids. Vet said she felt it was the Pedigree food. Sent her home and I gave her subcutaneous fluids for 2 days. Back to the vet last Saturday and got more fluids. By Sat night, she was vomiting up old blood and trembling uncontrollably. Went to Animal ER and they said she was in pain and uncomfortable. Had to put her to sleep. :(

I sent Pedigree an email when all of this started about 6 weeks ago explaining that she wouldn't eat it etc. I had bought a 50 lb bag of food that I could no longer use. I got a letter 2 days later stating there was a formula change and they would refund my money. This past Wednesday, I got a refund check for $22 after my dog passed away. Forget the money, I just want my baby back! If you know someone who is using this food, please tell them to stop. I can attest that it will harm your dog.

Our dogs became sick after eating a newly purchased bag of Pedigree Puppy Food. They had been eating Pedigree Puppy food all along, but I had bought a new bag. As soon as I put it in their dishes, they backed up and didn't want to eat it. I thought they were just being finicky. I left the dishes of dog food out. I feel bad now as they ate it because they were hungry. They both got diarrhea, very bloody stools, throwing up yellow bile and just laying around. Surely not acting themselves. I did not think it was the food. I thought maybe they ate something in the yard. I started both on boiled chicken and rice. Zoey being so little, she weighs 3 1/2 to 4 lbs and went downhill very fast. She wouldn't eat, then her diarrhea turned into pure blood. That is when we rushed her to the closest Animal Hospital.

The Vet said she needed IV fluids quick. That she probably would have died if we hadn't taken her in when we did. Zoey spent 2 days in the animal hospital receiving IV fluids, antibiotics and anti-vomiting meds. We still weren't sure what caused it until I talked to a neighbor, who had a good friend whose dog went through the same thing as Zoey did. The common link was the Pedigree Puppy Food. Of course, it is the food!! Maxx was still somewhat eating the Pedigree with chicken mixed in, and he still had the bloody stools and throwing up yellow bile. I immediately stopped feeding Maxx the Pedigree. Zoey was on Science Diet ID. Maxx then was eating chicken, rice, mixed vegetables with Science Diet mixed in. We then started looking for new food to feed them. So many choices.

We decided on Nature's Domain Salmon Sweet Potato Formula sold at Costco. We slowly transitioned them to the new food over a 10-day period. What a difference in our dogs!! They are eating, no bloody stools, their hair is shiny, eyes are bright, they play and have energy!! I contacted Pedigree after reading the other posts on this website. They took my information and said they will look into it, and opened a claim for our Vet bill expenses ($609.72). I had to keep calling and asking what was the status of our claim. Never phone calls from them. I was then told that our Vet's reports were being looked at by Mars (Pedigree's parent company). Then the reports were sent to Liberty Mutual Insurance, which insures Mars Incorporated. I was just sent a letter that our claim was denied. There was no definitive proof that the Pedigree Puppy food was the cause of Zoey's illness.

Ummm, she was healthy before she ate some of the newly purchased bag of Pedigree Puppy food. She got very sick and almost died after I opened the new bag of Pedigree Puppy food. She is now eating Nature's Domain dog food and is very active, bright eyed, gaining weight :-) no bloody stools, and their hair is shiny. Our routine has stayed the same. They play in our backyard, we take them for walks, we tried to rule out environment issues that may have caused their illness, but it all goes back to the newly purchased bag of Pedigree Puppy dog food. Maxx is also eating Nature's Domain Salmon Sweet Potato Formula. No bloody stools or throwing up yellow bile.

At the time we took Zoey into the Animal Hospital, we didn't know what caused her to be sick. Our Vet put in the report that it could have been the dog food. Pedigree/Mars says they have had NO complaints. Ummm, it looks like by this website, there have been people trying to call and make complaints and can't get through. I think a class action lawsuit is in order. I wanted to see if I could talk to them and have them put out a recall so other dogs don't get sick. I would like for anybody and everybody to please call in our concerns. Let our voices of concern be heard. The horrible experience we went through with our little dog Zoey and Maxx, I don't want to go through again. And I don't want anybody else to go through it either.

As a footnote, we relocated to Oahu, Hawaii. We brought Zoey and Maxx in November of 2012. Hawaii is rabies-free. Hawaii has very strict quarantine laws and strict procedures to get them into Hawaii. Health exams, rabies titer test, shots, 120-day quarantine, etc. We have spent a lot of money to relocate our dogs here. They have been very well taken care of. The phone numbers I called were Mars Consumer Relations 1-800-525-5273. The contact person I had was Hayden. His email **.

People, please call and complain if your dog has gotten sick after eating Pedigree. We have a Golden Retriever at home who has eaten Pedigree for 12 years and has never been sick. I am just saying I am sure that some of the food could be tainted at times and bagged up and sold. We feed it to our dogs and they get sick.

On opening it, the stench was disgusting and when I ripped the plastic covering that held the cans in a pack, I discovered 2 cans had burst and the plastic was also full of red/brown maggot larvae creatures. Now, I will have to return the whole lot to Tesco tomorrow and obviously want a refund, but who can I complain to that even cares? I bought 2 bags of Pedigree puppy food on April 4, 2013 from our Kmart store in Kapolei, Hawaii. Our dogs have been eating it before with no problems. As soon as I opened the bag of dog food, both dogs backed away from their dishes. They didn't want to eat it. I thought they were just being finicky. Our 3 1/2 pound dog started getting sick, throwing up and diarrhea. She went downhill fast. When we found a big pool of blood in our living room tile floor, we rushed her to the vet. After being on IV fluids, anti-vomiting meds, anti-diarrhea meds for 3 days and a big vet bill, the vet released her eating Science Diet I/d canned dog food and continued the meds for a week.

Our 8 lbs dog (her brother) had the diarrhea and throwing up, so he is on chicken and rice. I am in the process of switching their food. I didn't contribute the sickness to the food until I talked to a neighbor who had the same experience we did. Then I am thinking, "Hmm, it must be the food." When I googled and found all the complaints, I called 1-800-525-5273 and filed a complaint. They asked me a lot of questions/info on the bag. I asked if they had any other complaints. She said she takes the info and it is passed along to another department. She took our address and said they would send a check for the bag of food, but that doesn't help with our vet bill. No more Pedigree for our dogs. I will spread the word to people I talk to. Bad news travels fast! Especially on the island of Oahu!

My black Labrador was sick for three days. I'd taken them out for a walk in the country, and there was a dead deer in the ditch. He'd been near, so initially I thought it was because of that. He wouldn't eat, he was throwing up, and had diarrhea. He even refused to eat rice and hamburger for the first day. He ate a little on the second day. By the third day, he was ravenous and was cleaning his dish. Meanwhile, I was worried so I got a new case of canned Pedigree with chunky beef, bacon, and chicken meaty ground dinner (code #: BB030415 21 I 310CKKCC 1258CC).

I fed my Bordernese just the Pedigree Adult for Complete Nutrition (code # 3U9D30KD010426) dry dog food. Within two hours, he was vomiting and had loose stools as well. I put them both on rice, hamburger or chicken; and they quickly recovered. Thinking they may have had the flu, and after they'd received the rice/meat diet for several days without incident, I returned to feeding the Pedigree Dry food mixed with the canned. They each receive 3 cups of dry with 6.6 oz. of canned daily. Immediately, they were both sick again. This time, they were both sneezing violently along with the other symptoms. They were sick all afternoon and all night, and they are lethargic today. Needless to say, I'm going to keep them on rice and meat until I figure out what is causing them to be ill. Pedigree is closed until Monday, but I will be calling them.

I'm so angry now that I have been reading these articles about Pedigree dog foods. I had a little Chihuahua puppy that I loved so much. He passed away last night suddenly. He was perfectly healthy before and had just gone to the vet a couple of months before this incident. I fed him this food (Pedigree little champions) and noticed that he began vomiting and also got diarrhea, and refusing to eat the food which didn't make any sense because he had always loved eating that food. But they barely came out with a "New and Improved formula" when he started having the problems with the food.

2 nights ago, my dog was perfectly fine. The next morning, he was moping around and was not energetic at all. I was worried but was hoping he would have gotten better by the time I got back home from work. If not, I was going to take him to the vet as soon as I got home if there was no change in his condition. That was my big mistake. When I got home, I found him passed away and found blood around his anal area. There were trails of diarrhea and blood all over the apartment. I loved him so much and I wish I wouldn't have fed him this garbage.

We had 2 golden retrievers. We recently lost our male golden. We bought and mixed the Pedigree adult complete and the large breed nutrition back on March 21, 2013. Neither dog was interested in eating the food. We put some gravy on it and our male ate it for 3 days, then started to refuse to eat and started vomiting a yellow bile. This went on for 3 days. We took him to the vet and his calcium levels were almost double. We had some blood test done to rule out leukemia and some other disorders. The vet said there was really nothing we could do; he was dying. We lost him a week later. We have always fed the two goldens Pedigree. The dogs refusing to eat the food recently purchased and my female still continuing to refuse to eat it has made me suspicious about the food.

I contacted Pedigree. They have taken all the information and have requested I send the empty bags back to them, along with a sample of the food. They told me they have not received any other concerns regarding this food. I think it is important if you have had a recent problem with the food to contact Pedigree. That is the only way they are going to know there could be a potential problem with their product. If my dog did die because of the food, I would want to prevent other death of dogs that may be consuming this product.

Pedigree is not going to be aware of a problem if you do not notify them. They do not monitor this website to see all the concerns of pet owners regarding their product. My dog's death could be totally unrelated to the dog food, but we will never really know. But I was able to voice my concerns to Pedigree and they did seem concerned enough to look into it.

After two days of feeding the Pedigree to my 10-year-old coonhound mix, Murphy, he suddenly started having seizures. Every few minutes, within 24 hours, he could not stand up at all. I live in a remote place so I could not have brought him to a vet in time. I did the only thing I could think of to save him. I quit feeding him the Pedigree and started mixing some hamburger meat, eggs, milk and cheese along with a tiny bit of milk thistle. I managed to get him to eat although he couldn't even stand up. Within about 12 hours, he slowly got better so that he could stand. Within 24 hours he was walking slowly and staggered.

He finally recovered in about 3 days. I've gradually incorporated my regular brand of dog food with small amounts of meat and eggs and he's doing fine now. I almost lost my beloved pet due to that poison dog food. Never feed your pets Pedigree if you care about them. The company should be sued! The other day, we made the regrettable decision to give Pedigree adult complete dry dog food a try. We knew going in that some digestive issues commonly arise when trying new foods so we mixed 50/50 with her Costco Kirkland brand food. She seemed to like the taste and we did not notice any issues right away. I decided to research this food a couple days later and found this forum.

Concerned, I immediately stopped feeding her the Pedigree food and back to Kirkland brand. The next morning, my dog was almost comatose. She could hardly move or get up, almost like all her muscles were locked up. She was unresponsive to the point that I honestly thought it was too late for her. It took several days of nursing her back to health and making sure she got enough water and good food. I was so worried she was not going to make it. I had never seen her behave in this manner after 10 years. I can't believe this food is still on shelves. Please pet owners, stay away from these Pedigree foods!

I've been an owner and breeder of Brittany Spaniels since the early 1980s. Based on the experience of a fellow breeder, I've consistently fed Pedigree dry dog food to my puppies and adult dogs over the years. I've never had any problems until my recent purchase of a bag from Costco. I normally buy at Walmart, Kroger, or Southern States, but Costco had a great deal on a 52-pound bag for $20.49. A friend bought the same food for his Newfoundland / Black Lab mix. We've both been feeding it for about 2 months. Each of us has dogs over 10 years old.

After a couple of weeks on the food, we noticed our dogs were beginning to stumble, especially when going up and down stairs. They were also skidding and falling on flat surfaces. Neither of us noticed these problems before beginning to feed the Pedigree purchased at Costco. After doing research on the internet, I've learned that Pedigree and Beneful customers have both begun experiencing stumbling problems with their dogs, some of which have had seizures and even died. My friend and I both keep our food in storage bins, and we discarded the dog food bags and don't have detailed batch information. Given the similarity of the problems and the timing of their appearance in our dogs, we believe the issues may be connected to the food.

I am not doubting the integrity of a manufacturer I've trusted with my pets' health for over 30 years, but I do believe it's possible Pedigree (and Beneful) may have acquired some faulty ingredients on the global market, much like what has happened with baby formula and other products in recent years. I'm concerned about contamination, not only of pet foods, but of products which are manufactured overseas or even domestically using ingredients produced overseas. How can we know what we're buying for our children, our pets, and our families are safe when certain businessmen will do anything to boost their profit margin?

Pedigree, please investigate. I feel I must move to another brand until this issue has been adequately addressed.

I have been researching a lot about pets and pet products while browsing this site and I had become worried about the dental health of Gracie, my miniature sheltie. Knowing how many pet treats and products have been recalled recently, I was wary to just grab something off the shelf without investigating first. My boyfriend and I spent 20 minutes in the dog treat aisle at Target reading all the ingredients and where each product was made until we came across the Pedigree Dentastix Fresh Treats for dogs in the mini size (Made in the USA).

I love my dog because she is well behaved, gorgeous, and smart. I do not, however, love her breath, which often smells like fish! She doesn't eat fish. Anyway, after reading reviews about Dentastix, I felt confident they would help Gracie with her oral health. I also tried brushing her teeth with doggie toothpaste, and that didn't work well at all. As a reward for letting me attempt to brush her teeth, I gave her a Dentastix treat. She chomped, smacked, and chewed it up pretty fast but seemed to like it. I wondered how something that was consumed so quickly could actually help clean her teeth.

Over a month later, Gracie now licks her lips at the mention of Dentastix and even does a small trick for it each night after she has finished her dinner. If I'm not home, she'll bark at my family members, lick her lips, and look at the package until they understand what she wants and give her that evening Dentastix fix she needs. Her teeth look 100 times better than before. They were once brownish grey (yuck!) and now they have changed to slightly discolored with no visual tartar and are constantly getting better each week. I am thrilled with how well this product works and Gracie loves them! I will definitely continue to buy this product.

He almost died, and this is a dog with an iron constitution who never gets sick. At the same time, friends who were unaware of the case told us about their dogs, both labs, that were in the same boat (one died) at the same time, at different vets. We talked more to find out we had one common denominator - Pedigree dog food. After a painful ordeal, Elvis recovered and we paid a $4,000 vet bill. We thought it was just a coincidence, and although we changed dog foods, we did not pursue the matter.

This weekend, it happened again. It played out exactly as before, and it was after feeding the dog Pedigree canned food, ground chicken and rice. We immediately took him off the food and nursed him around the clock. There is too much evidence now to refute a connection between the pet food and the illnesses our dog and many others have tolerated. However, I am keen on filing a class action against Pedigree and will establish Facebook page, which is non-profit, to keep concerned owners informed. Our pets are important to our family make-up and I will not allow such arrogant disregard to go unchallenged. While I do not think this is a malicious intent by Pedigree, I do believe it is a case of greed and criminal negligence, even fraud, which will be the basis for our legal action. In Nov. 2012, we had also adopted a healthy 3 year old Bernese female. This dog after only one year on Pedigree canned dog food suddenly began vomiting and looking lethargic. We took her to the hospital, and they found that she was in acute liver failure. Ultrasound found liver and kidney damage. The blood tests ruled out all diseases. Both clusters of symptoms are evident in the complaints posted about Pedigree dog food.

My dogs are being exposed to something that is causing toxicity. The commonality is the food they are ingesting daily. My other dog is being tested for liver function this week. If his liver is compromised, I think we are on to something. Needless to say, we have stopped Pedigree in our household. Our vet bills for our female are $4,700 and the prescription food she will need to be on for the rest of her life is very expensive. I looked at the labels on the cans and saw that one of the ingredients is onion powder. Onions are known to be toxic to dogs - what is Pedigree thinking? I should have paid closer attention to all ingredients. I pray that someone reads this and finds an alternative product for their dog before something happens.

During this time, I have cooked her food, chicken and rice. Then later, I began trying canned dog food. On December 30, 2012, I purchased 4 cans of Pedigree canned food and meaty ground dinner, and I started her out with one can. The next day, she had her first ever mild seizure which consisted of her not being able to stand up from the lying down position with her front legs drawing up, almost like a muscle cramp. This didn't last long, and after a couple of minutes, she was able to get up and move normal.

Not suspecting anything yet, I purchased more Pedigree canned dog food and continued to feed her only this product. No other treats or food. Then on January 1, 2013, she had two seizures that day within 27 minutes of each other. We were out for our daily walk, and she began leaning to the right as if she had just been punched and was thrown off balance. She staggered for a few seconds and then continued walking normal, and then she did the exact same thing during the second seizure. On January 3, 2013, I took her to the vet, didn't get my normal vet but a new person, and I was told she had ear infection and given drops. When I got her home, she had a bad seizure. She was leaning against the wall trying to walk. She had no balance and unable to hold herself up.

On January 5, 2013, she had two really bad seizures; one at 1:30 am and one at 3 am which resulted in another trip to the vet shortly after the office opened. Both of these seizures occurred while she was in bed. She jerked her head up, looking scared and tried to crawl toward me. Her body began to jerk, and her head remained upright but jerked. She was breathing heavy through her nose, her eyes wide with fright as her head and body jerked for 3 to 4 minutes. This is the first time in her life she has ever eaten any Pedigree dog food and the first time in her life to have seizures. She has not had any Pedigree canned dog food for three days now, and she has not had any more seizures.

I am waiting for test results from the vet on chest x-rays, but since the last visit on January 5, 2013, my friend told me about her daughter's dog who had seizures and he couldn't eat certain foods due to the dye. So I began doing research on the internet which led me to this site where I see similar stories as mine about pets that have eaten Pedigree and then became sick. I wanted to share my experience in case I can help someone else whose pets may be having seizures.

I am the proud owner of a 6-year-old healthy Pomeranian. I had been feeding my Pomeranian her usual food for the last six years of her life with no ill effects; that is, until the pet store ran out of her brand. Not wanting my dog to go hungry, I decided to try out Pedigree. After all, the website seemed to imply that their food was healthy and made from quality ingredients. This was about two weeks ago. Four days ago, my dog started becoming disoriented, falling over, losing her balance, walking sideways, and seizing up, which then developed into full-on seizures.

After a full examination by the veterinarian at the emergency hospital, the cause of her illness was unknown. I had a suspicion that the seizures were attributed to her new dog food. I have since taken her off Pedigree and put her on an all natural diet, and her symptoms have completely disappeared. It's quite the coincidence, don't you think? Especially after googling Pedigree and reading literally hundreds of stories just like my own. Please, if you value your pet's health, please do not make the same mistake that I did in buying Pedigree.

My Great Dane of 5 years old became very sick last Friday - vomiting, diarrhea, feverish and lethargic. My 2 dogs' basic diet is normally fresh frozen meat with vegetables, but I also feed them occasionally with dry and canned food when out of fresh meat. I bought a bag of Pedigree dry food for the very first time a few weeks ago. Both my dogs have had occasional diarrhea since. It did cross my mind that it might be caused by this particular brand, but I thought I would finish the bag and not purchase it again.

But last Friday, my poor Mini got so sick during the night - so much vomiting and diarrhea. On Saturday, she could hardly stand or walk. She's only starting to get better. My other dog (Boston Terrier) is OK, but he never eats a lot of dry food (a few kibbles). Unfortunately, I can't be sure at 100% that it's because of Pedigree dry food, but the link is enough troubling that I will never purchase again any of their products.

I have three dogs, all adopted from the SPCA. Two of them had seizures within 2 and 1/2 days of each other. We took the first dog, Sohpie, to the vet's E.R. on a Sunday night for her seizure. She has never had one before, and we were scared that she was going to die. They kept her on a 24-hour watch, did all sorts of x-rays, blood work, urinalysis - nothing showed up, except for ketones in her blood, but her blood sugar levels were fine. She came home the next day and seemed to be okay. The total vet bill was $1,126.00.

On Wednesday morning of the same week, my beloved Riley started seizing while next to me on my bed. I was scared to death! This one was very similar to Sohpie's seizure, but a little more violent! When I called the vet, I was told to keep an eye on him, and if he was still lethargic by 6:00 pm or so, to bring him in. It took Riley a few hours to recover, but he seemed okay by evening.

My husband and I talked and said that this can't just be a coincidence as none of our dogs have had seizures before. So, we started to look at what has changed in their environment lately. And after looking for hazards in my backyard - such as mushrooms, weeds, etc. - my husband said he had bought Dentastix "Fresh" instead of the regular Dentastix. Apparently, they had been taking the new "Fresh" Dentastix for approximately 2 weeks, when we have been giving them the regular Dentastix for years.

I called Pedigree to file a complaint. They were nice enough over the phone, and in the middle of filing, I asked the representative from Pedigree to tell me the difference between the new "Fresh" Dentastix and the regular Dentastix. He said the only thing different on the ingredients list is "Eucalyptus Oil," and I thought, well, that's part of the "breath-freshening" aspect of the product. After hanging up and doing some research online, I learned that "Eucalyptus Oil" can cause seizures in dogs. It's everywhere on the Internet! Whats wrong with this company? I have turned my complaint into a claim and am requesting that our vet bills be paid.

Another thing I found out is that "Eucalyptus Oil" can cause "ketones" to show in blood or urine. Pedigree said they have "vets" who work with them. Do they know what they are doing? Do they really care about our pets or are they just trying to kill them? Needless to say, I am very upset. I am supposed to be getting a status phone call in 4 days. I hope they are willing to cooperate and pay the bills because they were outright stupid and blatantly irresponsible!

We got my Labrador when he was a puppy. He was about 15 weeks old. When it was time to start adult food, we put him on Pedigree. Ever since then, he was beyond skinny. I always thought it was because he was a growing puppy, until people were questioning me what's wrong with him at 11 months old. When people started bringing it more to my attention, I brought him to the vet. But a few days before that, I mentioned something was really wrong. He would poop every 2 hours, pee like crazy, cry all the time, braking like no other dog I’ve ever had; with all the Labradors, I never saw one act like this.

Someone warned me about Pedigree and how it was dangerous, and that could be why he wasn't gaining weight. Actually, right before I switched foods, I was giving him about 12 cups a day because I thought it might help. That's when things got even worse. The vet stated too that he lost 2 lbs. in a matter of a day and should be about 70 lbs. but was only 50 lbs. - all bones, like I was starving this poor dog. Someone recommended putting him on Iams and that's just what I did. Right away, he started looking healthy again - fur better, much fatter now, and it's only 1 week.

The vet stated that all blood panels came back normal, just muscle mass is really bad, digestive panel good, CBC okay. She can't believe that this food did this much to a dog. I will warn everyone I know to stay away from this food. I'm not sure what’s in Pedigree, but this dog is pooping like a normal dog too, and here I thought it was him not wanting to be trained at 11 months old, for shame on Pedigree. I'm so beyond happy that I saved my dog. I believe he was slowly dying :( His vet said he was real bad too, and she never saw such a thing before. Investigate your food Pedigree. There is something killing our dogs here, and you need to be stopped! Beyond ticked off here!

We had been feeding Sassy, our 10-year-old 35lb mixed breed (some terrier in her), with the dry Pedigree Healthy Joints and Adult - back and forth or mixing them. Everyone should know that when you change your pets’ diet, expect stool changes until their body adjusts to the new diet. Switching to what is on sale all the time is detrimental to the dog's overall health. Well, we moved and the store didn't have Pedigree but another brand that was supposed to be healthy and formulated for older dogs.

Within a week, she was moping around, lying down all the time. A couple weeks more and she acted sick, wouldn't get up, just wanted to lie there, and wouldn't eat. She drank a lot and had to go to urinate several times a night when usually she could hold it 10-14 hours whenever needed and always went through the night without fussing to go out. We got scared with her not eating for several days, and that day she laid down and did nothing, acting like deathly sick, it made us call the vet.

We took her in for testing. Supposedly, she possibly had early onset liver failure or kidney failure and she needed a special $100 diet dog food the vet happened to sell. He gave her shot. We didn't buy into the dog food thing, but we did a ton of research. We did find that her symptoms were possibly what the vet said, but the blood tests didn't prove it only that it was possible. But her symptoms also were tied to chemicals in the water, especially for conditioned water. We retraced what had happened. We moved to a condo with water conditioning. She started losing vitality. A few weeks later, we switched her dog food. She got more sick.

We started giving her store-bought purified water and went back to Pedigree, driving to another store to get it. Within a couple days, she was acting better and drinking less. We moved back to my home and went back to city water. We had no troubles before. She is now back to being active, running, playing, and jumping when excited. She’s drinking usual amounts and urinating normal again. We try to buy extra when it's on sale. When it’s not, we just buy smaller bags until we can get a coupon or some deal and then buy the bigger bag. What we won't do is let her eat any other dog food. She eats Pedigree adult almost exclusively, and if not in stock, the Healthy Joints. She does have a bum knee in one leg from being hit by a car before we got her, it seems. But it doesn't keep her from jumping over 2' high to get in our bed at night, nor does it keep her from tearing around the yard like a greyhound when we play.

There may have been some issues with the canned product and mistakes made, no doubt. I'm sorry others had troubles with it. But you know, almost all manufacturers of human food have had one or more recalls of their own. Even our medicines get recalls. So having a short-term issue and a recall to correct it in a dog food isn't any different. Mistakes can and do happen. People and companies are held accountable. Everyone is super-fast to complain even when the issue isn't valid (my dog stool changed that day I changed her food - duh!) But praise is much less given even when it is valid.

The Pedigree dry goods have been a lifesaver for our dog. If we had not gone to the vet, the combination of bad water and poor nutritional value foods would have killed her. We could have spent a ton on special food and shots. But we didn't need to. Pedigree is very healthy for her. The vet said she has great teeth and didn't think she was that old because of her teeth and muscle tone though she had a lot of gray hair. He said she was in great shape but old and maybe a year or two with poor kidney/liver. That was a year ago. She's healthy and full of vim and vigor. She's still old and getting older. But she has a long time to go and we will keep on using Pedigree Dry for her, for the rest of her life!

The only thing better we could do for her is to make it ourselves (which we did a few times until we finished our research and went to bottled pure water and Pedigree formulated for older dogs). Pedigree also saved us a small fortune in dog food and vet bills! If you change to Pedigree for your dog, expect stool changes for a few days. By the way, on the other stuff, she didn't go regular, and it was often hard with stress on her to even go. On Pedigree, she is back to regular and soft and no problems. We highly recommend Healthy Joints and Adult formulation for all older dogs! We swear by it and our wonderful Sassy, who is like our child, lives well because of it!

I gave my 3-year-old Dane 2 1/2 cans last night and he started becoming ill 2 hours later. By the time the morning came around, he was lethargic and hardly moving. He looked as if he had been poisoned. He wouldn't eat and was running a fever. He was extremely sick all day. Thankfully, he was feeling better by the end of the day. The day before, my 1-year-old Great Dane had eaten 2 1/2 cans for breakfast and had gotten sick as well and stood in her dog house for several hours. She was fine before she ate the canned food, but once she ate it she became sick within one hour.

I found a live beetle in a can I purchased last year. The beetle was smashed into the side of the dog food when I opened the can and its legs were moving. There have been other times when the dogs would become mildly ill after eating this canned food, but recently I experienced what I felt to be two serious occasions where two of my dogs became quite ill. My 1-year-old Dane is always reluctant to eat this canned food probably because she knows it isn't good for her. Both of my Danes get diarrhea from this food as well. I will no longer be feeding canned Pedigree since it is clearly harmful for my dogs.

I recently switched to Pedigree canned food for my dogs. I have 4 but 2 who are quite picky. I usually feed mostly dry with a couple of tablespoons of wet mixed in. I noticed after a few days, my elderly Basset Hound was out of sorts. I did not connect it to the dog food at all at first. I kept feeding her more wet to encourage her eating. She was peeing all over the house at night even though she was being put out frequently. She was throwing up, uncomfortable, severe pain in her movements, drooling and she had a funny smell to her. The only reason I even considered the food as a source for her poor health was the fact that we took our dogs to the kennel where they were fed differently for a few days.

When we picked them up a few days later, she was a different dog. Happy and energetic. No pain. We took them home and fed them and within hours, she was deteriorating. I immediately went and bought different food for them and her health has steadily improved. I am extremely disappointed that I bought this food as a treat for my dogs and I was slowly poisoning them. The only change I made was this food. I will never buy this food again and I will also be telling all my pet owner friends the same.

She vomited again tonight and again, undigested. So, she had all this so-called food in her stomach all day. I decided to Google Pedigree and found this site. After reading the other posts, it dawned on me that my two other dogs had the same symptoms also: diarrhea, eating grass, lethargic, etc. I came to the conclusion that it is most definitely the Pedigree canned food. It was strange in color and consistency and the amount of stool indicated that much of the product was being passed without being digested.

After a few days of eating the Pedigree, our Yorkshire Terrier Rudy began having seizures. Rudy had three seizures on a Saturday afternoon/evening and one on Sunday morning. I contacted a breeder friend who suggested that our dog may have low blood sugar from the lack of nutrition in the new food. We gave the Yorkie a couple teaspoons of honey and then threw away the Pedigree and put our regular brand out for all three dogs.

Rudy's seizures did not recur once he stopped eating Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition and the stool in the back yard looks normal once again. I noticed after about two weeks (though injured he is a very active dog normally), I had not seen him get up and play or really do anything but lay on the floor like a rug. Then after about three weeks, his mouth started to swell. I immediately contacted my vet who thought he had been bitten by a spider and that it was a pretty common allergic reaction to spider bites and that I should just give him Benadryl and he will be fine. After about a week and a half of pumping him full of Benadryl and realizing he was not getting better, I started to question his diet.

I went to my local pet store and they told me to get a food with limited ingredients. I purchased Natural Balance (sweet potato and chicken). After one feeding, he not only ate his food but after a few hours his lip swelling went down. Today, I saw him running all over the house playing with my sister dog (which he has not done in months). I asked him what it could be from and he said sometimes the food or treats since my dogs are inside dogs and they don't eat human food or trash. I thought that maybe it was the pepperoni treats I was giving them so I threw them out.

Well, the vet gave me two different types of antibiotics and a special brand of dog food called ID or something like that. I fed them that for three days along with their medicine. Two days ago, I started slowly introducing them back to Pedigree. Guess what? They are still on antibiotics and the symptoms gone, but the symptoms of the bacterial infection are slowly returning. Their stool is loose and they are a bit lethargic. I'm sure if they weren't on antibiotics, they would be just as ill again. I'm terrified of Pedigree now. I am not sure if there is any correlation but I sure am not willing to take a chance with my pets' lives! Has any one else had similar issues?

My dogs have been eating this dog food for years. Then suddenly the golden retriever had horrible diarrhea. Then the second dog had diarrhea. It also seems possible that some have been transmitted to some members of the family per the doctor. The symptoms from the dogs reminded me of the salmonella contaminant stories I have been hearing. So I am in the beginning of researching this as it is all very recent. I think the company (Pedigree) needs to start doing an investigation. At the time when I took the dog to the vet with the stool sample, I did not think of getting it tested for salmonella. I called the vet today and he said it is $150 to have stool tested for salmonella. People just do not have this kind of money; however, not knowing could have potential fatal outcomes eventually. We are just going to change the dogs’ food instead.

I have been reading a lot of the posts on this site and decided to post due to my frustration with some of these complaints. I have a non-profit pet rescue and for 11 years, have been feeding all our dogs Pedigree. We have had over 6,000 dogs that we have rescued and placed in that time frame. We have not had any issues with the dogs eating Pedigree. It seems that a lot of the complaints on this site are from people who bought the food and started feeding their dog for the first time. As with any food change, it can cause severe intestinal upset to the point of the dog having to be hospitalized. When changing foods, you need to do it slowly and mix it together with the old food and gradually switch the dog over. Vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stools, etc. are all possible if the dog is not switched over correctly.

I have four dogs, and my youngest is a black 7-month-old German Shepherd mix. Because he's still a puppy, I feed him twice a day. Last Thursday, I gave him, like normal, a cup and a half of dry Pedigree dog food and added a can of Pedigree wet food. Later that evening, I gave him a half raw hide. On Friday morning, he was sick, throwing the raw hide up and all his dog food. I can't say if it was the dog food or raw hide, but my baby has been recovering since. I took him to the emergency vet clinic and couldn't afford blood work or an x-ray.

But the vet was great and the staff as well, and they did send Oso and my self home with antibiotics and a dewormer. They said Pepcid AC will help too. I've dealt with his vomiting throughout these past days and diarrhea. He's still weak, but God bless, he seems to be recovering well. Here's my question though: Did that can food get my baby boy sick? All I know is Pedigree lost a customer, and I will continue to do my research.

They would not eat it so I have been mixing it with canned Pedigree to get them to eat it and now feed them twice a day.

All 3 of my dogs have been to the vet beginning 3 weeks ago - diarrhea, bloody stool, vomiting. One is still at the vet. He has been diagnosed with liver problems. I have put the food in the freezer and will wait to see if anything comes of these complaints. I’m going to the vet today to discuss my pet’s progress. So sad, I love my dogs so much! I had three dogs. I had just adopted a poodle mix from the pound and saved his life there. I have a 7-month-old lab mix (still) and a Chihuahua mix (also still, thankfully). I bought a large bag of Pedigree and started feeding them both the same formula. The poodle mix was the first to show symptoms. He began with extremely explosive diarrhea. Then it turned to a very dark, foul smelling diarrhea and progressed to straight blood. He wouldn't drink or eat anything. We spent thousands of dollars at the vet, and when our lab mix got sick we decided the only way we could afford to keep one healthy would be to give one up. We had to take the poodle to the pound and continue treatment on our lab mix. The doctors said the only thing they found was that it was poison.

We would have never imagined that it was the dog food that is supposed to be so healthy and nutritious! We introduced the food to our Chihuahua because her prescription food ran out and now she has this diarrhea! We are outraged. I am so completely angry that we trusted this company and have now became so close to losing our companions! I already lost one. Not only did I spend money at the vet, I also had to get brand new carpets put in and I missed multiple days of work and was completely distracted elsewhere because of this poison my dogs ate. I would like to know where I can sign onto a class-action lawsuit because I am financially, emotionally, and physically worn out. This is completely ridiculous.

I have two cocker spaniels: one approximately 40lbs and 8 years old; and one approximately 20lbs and one year old. The older dog has been on Pedigree for as long as I can remember, mostly on the weight control (healthy nutrition) for the past three years. The younger dog has always been on the weight control just for simplified feeding from same bag as her brother. We have never had any problems with the food until this week when we bought a new bag. The bag was purchased the week of 5/17/12 and they began feeding from it on the morning of 5/18/12. The younger one had explosive diarrhea starting within about 12 hours and has remained constant. The older and bigger dog had one bout of very loose stool on 5/20/12 and has been suffering from consistent explosive diarrhea on 5/21/12 (today) since his breakfast feeding.

The vet has given anti-diarrheal pills to help with the obvious issues. The younger dog had her food cut off last night and has had improved energy and symptoms since then. With the food cut from one dog and the food continued for the other, who now has worsened symptoms and extremely reduced energy, I knew this had to be food-related. I began searching online and saw other similar complaints from recent feedings. My husband is now out buying different food. My husband also mentioned that he had noticed the new bag of Pedigree was much less filled this time around. We normally keep their food in a plastic storage bin to keep fresh and protected. The bin, when empty, normally cannot hold an entire large bag. This time the bin was not completely empty and the whole bag can be stored in the bin. So, apparently Pedigree is making some quality and quantity cutbacks.

I will no longer be a Pedigree supporter and will not be buying any formulation of their food again! I will be following up this post with a very similar reporting to the manufacturers directly! Please do not feed your dogs this food! I can tell you that quality is much reduced right now and the messes you will be cleaning up are not worth paying even the low $14 we paid for this food. My white leather couch, hardwood floors, and my bedroom carpet floors will never be same! Not to mention how my poor little puppies feel!

Two weeks later, I brought him to the doctor for vaccinations and to have his pre-surgical bloodwork performed (he was to be neutered the next week). His ALT, a liver enzyme was 500 (normal range is to 100). We thought it to be a fluke since he seemed so healthy, so the doctor recommended waiting 3 weeks and retesting. When I brought him in the second time, it had doubled to 1000!

We proceeded with a bile acids testing, thinking he had a liver shunt but it came back normal and was ruled out. He is asymptomatic (feels fine, no vomiting/diarrhea), but is obviously having increasing damage done to his liver. I was curious if there had been a recall recently and found these postings. I really wish your advertising people would seriously stop and think before actually putting these commercials out there that we have to listen to. I don't even have a dog. I've been a cat owner throughout my life, so the actual food product isn't what this complaint is about. Why would you choose to have the announcer say the word "butt" in your commercial rather than something that's not insulting and much more decent for us to have to listen to blaring at us all over the house? I mean, please. What happened to decency in something so seemingly innocent and endearing as a pet commercial? But of course, nowadays, everybody and every ad agency thinks it's cool to just say anything and everything - like the people who have to listen to it either agree with that or don't care. But I care and I think you should be ashamed.

Seriously, what's wrong with a phrase like "from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail" or "from his wet nose to his tail". But your announcer says, "from the tip of his nose to his butt". That's totally absurd. I mean I never even thought of dogs having butts. I mean it's nothing like a human butt and we see it all the time so why do you have to demean it? It's disgusting, really. I mean give us a break. Clean up your act, there are children out there and you're just opening the door and condoning that attitude of it's fine to say whatever whenever. Evidently, you don't mind when your children say things that are just disrespectful of themselves and others. I would be embarrassed to associate myself with your company if I were you.

My dog, my best friend, who I bought in the beginning of my 8 years as a military wife, has been through 2 deployments and a loss of his daddy and my husband due to TBI. He is now 10 and has been through the worst times of my life with me. I went through his worst times last year when he spent 2 1/2 months on the vet floor without coming home, fighting for his life. Three surgeries later and almost dying from sepsis, he came home with me (after me sitting on the floor from open to close at the vet, syringing homemade pureed food to him). The only thing I could get him to eat was a Pedigree wet dog food.

Now a year later, my dog has been burping and "farting" a terrible smell. Then, he has been throwing up too. You can sit and hear his stomach so loudly at night just churning. This week, I noticed, while opening a can of Pedigree dog food, his horrible stinky burps smell just like the can of dog food. He tries not to eat it, so I try to add things in it to make him eat, thinking he was just having a picky episode again. I gave him pepcid and ranitidine to help calm his stomach, and maybe, he would eat. They did nothing. Maalox didn't work either. Finally, I said no more wet dog food. If it smells like his burps, something is wrong. I will just use my food stamp money to make him food. I'm thinking the last few weeks that this is the end and he's going to die anytime. He's lost so much weight; if it wasn't for his long, golden retriever hair, you could see his ribs and his sides are sunk in to the extreme.

I'm very pissed off, after saving his life and getting him back to a normal dog. And now, I'm hoping this is not the end. Can his life be saved from this dog food damage? I sure hope so. I can't believe this. I was killing my boy, who I just saved from a dog food. Thank you, everyone, for taking time to write these reviews. It may not be too late because of y'all.

I am having some financial problems, as so many are, these days. My income has dropped drastically in the last three years. I am now forced to buy less expensive food for my yorkies. I had puppies and older dogs all inside, so I mixed the puppy chow I bought with the 40 pound bag of Pedigree. In the past week, I noticed they didn't seem to be eating as much as usual and then the pups began vomiting and having diarrhea with blood (the largest pup and the biggest eater had a huge bloody stool). I immediately began treating them at home with fresh garlic, brown rice and hamburger, as advised by a vet, a long time ago, for Parvo. I personally have treated over 15 dogs over the years with vet confirmed Parvo and within a day, they begin eating on their own and within three days, they are back to normal. So, when they didn't improve and I lost three of my yorkie puppies. I was also hydrating them with a syringe. They should have gotten better, if it was Parvo or Campylobacter (sp?).

At least one of my older dogs vomited tonight and I have found some white stools on my puppy pads, in the morning. I couldn't afford to take my puppies to the vet, but when I read the descriptions here, I thought that had to be it. I had bought some new puppy chow because even before reading this, I was just suspicious it might be the Pedigree. I am not a breeder, but my pets sometimes breed. When I miss one of my girls’ irregular heat cycles, I don't separate them in time. To top it all off and why I turned my PC back on to file a complaint, I had the Pedigree mix out all day in their food bowl. When I dumped it in the garbage and put out the new puppy chow, they all began eating like they hadn't eaten in a long time.

I feel so badly that it isn't something any dog or cat owner should have to worry about, with any brand of dog or cat food, ever. Let alone a brand name dog food like this. I bought it because it was on sale and I have to watch every penny. I live below the poverty level and those pups were beautiful. One was a Golden Yorkie and looked like Winnie the Pooh (it was also her name), one was charting to weigh maybe three pounds and the last one to pass was a Parti Yorkie. They were all Parti carriers and beautiful loving puppies. They should have had a long life ahead of them. They deserve better, we pet owners deserve better!

I wrote this poem, the morning, they began throwing up. I wasn't even overly concerned at first because it's been hot and puppies, especially small breeds do vomit without consequence frequently. Added by the fact puppies by nature will act fine, even when they are starting to feel ill, as a carryover of instincts of survival in the wild. My grandchildren were so looking forward to meeting Winnie Pooh Bear and the other pups, when I go up for a visit, later this month. Now, I have to break this heartbreaking news to them.

Around a month ago, I switched my dog's food from regular adult Pedigree to Pedigree nutrition. My dog seemed skeptical of the new food, but he still ate for the first 2 weeks. Then he suddenly stopped, but still begged for human food. I figured he was being picky because this new food was supposed to be "healthier.” Well, it got to the point where he wouldn't eat anything, was acting lethargic/depressed, lost a lot of weight and would throw up. He would barely even eat human food. So we took him to the vet and they did a full blood work up (after running other tests and coming up with nothing) and he found out he had a serious liver issue. They ran more tests to try to pinpoint it, but were not able to and referred us to NC State University Veterinary Hospital because our poor Chewy was getting sicker and sicker and losing weight.

I drove him there on the evening of Thursday, April 26, and they admitted him to emergency care and he was hospitalized until today, May 1st. They had to put him on IV, do numerous tests, and finally resorted to a liver biopsy because they couldn't figure out what's wrong. Well, we've now spent well over $5,000 for Chewy's care and diagnostics. My husband is a marine and I am substitute teacher. We managed to raise $2000 through generous family member and friends. Test results should be back by the end of the week.

But I have a feeling it’s going to be related to his food because that is when it all started. It makes me feel sick to my stomach that I had a hand in poisoning my dog. I've been reading up on Pedigree and think they should be held criminally and civilly responsible for poisoning innocent animals. My dog saw me through my husband's recent deployment to Afghanistan and we've had him since he was 4 weeks old. He is currently only 1 1/2 years old - he doesn't deserve this and neither do we. She was vomiting and chewing on my oak staircase, eating grass, pacing around the yard and licking everything. You could tell she was very uncomfortable in her skin. I went to vet and he couldn’t pin it down to anything. After blood work, nausea meds, and $400 later, there’s still no explanation. Since the dog obviously had a throat problem, we put her on rice and tuna, chicken, and turkey diet. Guess what? She became her old self again. I gave her 1 bowl of Pedigree dog food after she was better and she instantly got sick again. This product should be pulled from the shelf and a class action suit filed to recoup damages from sick and dead animals.

I have three dogs--a Rottweiler/black Labrador (Lucas), a yellow Labrador (Jaxx) and a Chihuahua (Kika). Lucas and Jaxx have both been on the adult dry (52 lb. bag) for almost two years since getting off puppy chow. Until two weeks ago, they were the picture of perfect health. Last week, 03/23/12, Lucas started hacking and coughing like he had swallowed something and had it lodged. I thought he would cough it up and out eventually. Then, Jaxx had the same symptoms starting yesterday.

As of this morning, both dogs are down and not eating much. After reading other reviews on this site, I whipped up a rice, egg, and chicken combo for them. They ate like they had been starved. I had to pull their bowls because they were eating too fast. They did keep their food down but two hours later, they are still hacking and vomiting a yellowish/white mucus foam.

Our vet is going to be here at 2:00 today to take a look and get blood samples. All of these started less than 48 hours after we opened a new 52 lb. bag of the Pedigree adult dry dog food purchased at the Calexico, CA Walmart. Walmart will not hear me without the bag or receipt of purchase. Kika, who eats Purina little bites, is in great shape. As for the remaining Pedigree at my house, it goes in the fire pit today.

My two dogs (one golden retriever, the other a shepherd lab mix) became very ill after trying Pedigree dry dog food. They drank extreme amounts of water, passed soft stool frequently, were very lethargic, and panted continuously. I thought they were in kidney failure. After two days, I thought I would try just changing the food. I am grateful to report that my pets are recovering. Since I am on a limited income and do not have pet insurance, I could not have diagnostic testing done. I was scheduled to have my pets euthanized 1 day before they got better after taking them off the Pedigree. This food needs to be checked for possible contamination.

We have fed our dogs Pedigree wet and dry for many years and we also moved and noticed our dogs were having accidents in the house which they have never done before. Both are 70 to 80 pound dogs so we stopped using the wet, thinking it was that since they do not have a doggy door at our current residence. They are both females, one is a pure bread black lab, 11 yrs old and the other is a Rhodesian Ridge Back, she is 6.

We started having more problems with the lab having diarrhea and getting sick, crying and breathing problems and both stopped eating their food or just little bits and drinking water, then throwing up, leaving a green and or reddish dye-like color and we thought maybe, it was the biscuits since they were colored. So, after several weeks of thinking it was the move or old age issues since she was 11, we took her to the vet, paid about $500 in test and medicines.

The veterinarian could not figure out what was going on, so he suggested surgery to spay her we did, spent another $600 and we lost her on March 18, 2012. I started doing some research myself because this came on so fast, and she has always been happy and healthy, then I find this site. My wife and I are now extremely angry with the fact this product has not been pulled from the shelves. I recommend getting your dog off this food today. Two weeks ago, we picked up a St. Bernard to foster while she waited for an adoptive family. The rescue gave me a bag of Pedigree dry food and several cans of Pedigree canned food. She had severe diarrhea, and the whites of her eyes were totally red. We had to return her to the rescue. We exchanged her for another Saint that had no history of medical problems and had been eating Dog Chow with his previous foster. Again, the rescue gave us a bag of Pedigree dry and 3 bags of canned food.

The first day, he ate 2 bowls of dry food mixed with 2 cans. The next morning, he had one bowl of the mix; and within an hour, he had severe diarrhea and his eyes had also turned red. Our Saint before him suffered from severe diarrhea, and in 6 months, she went from 125 lb. to 70 lb. She had $100s in tests, and the vet could not find a cause for the diarrhea and weight loss. She was on stomach meds and pain meds, until she got so weak and emaciated that she had to be euthanized. I now suspect it was the Pedigree dog food that was making her sick. Pedigree should be shut down for continuing to make this food.

I don't know what happened but my husband and I were shocked to find all these bad reviews. We've been at wit's end the past month or so trying to determine what was making our two labs sick. We just moved into a new house and having kennel messes has not been fun! Let alone what it's been doing to our poor dogs. Our labs (one yellow, one chocolate) have been on Pedigree for years since they were both puppies (they are 4 and 7 now). Typically an issue happens when hubby forgets to pay attention to the bag and bought the large breed Pedigree dog food vs the regular adult Pedigree. But he's been very careful the past month or so and made sure to buy the regular smaller version. Our yellow lab wouldn't touch the food for about a week and only drank water. Then would drink so much water, she'd vomit. Our chocolate was having diarrhea in his kennel. Hubby hopped on the internet and you can imagine our dismay in reading all of these comments. Natural Choice is now our brand of dog food and Pedigree should be ashamed of themselves for doing this.

I figured they weren't hungry, which is never the case. They would smell it, and simply walk away. My friend convinced me that something must be wrong with the dog food (stupid me), so I returned it back to Costco. After the first experience, I switched to another type of dog food for 6-8 months, then returned to the Pedigree dog food, and things seem to be fine. After a while using the Pedigree, the same thing happened again, but they ate if for a couple of days. This time my terrier got sick and would not eat it anymore, and came down with diarrhea and bloody stool. So I immediately returned it to Costco. I feel bad that I took a chance and put savings over the health of my dogs. I will be notifying Costco tomorrow, that they should look at the consumer reports and strongly consider discontinuing the sale of the Pedigree dry food!

We had just moved into a new house and I thought maybe the problem was in the backyard. She was bathed, dipped, and had her flea meds but the problem worsened. Then, my 5 year old mixed breed started throwing up at least twice a day. He has always been an energetic, happy little dog but now he is lethargic. My lab started drinking gallons of water every day and her hair has fallen out and she has massive hot spots. She cries all the time. I have thrown out all my Pedigree food after reading all the other complaints on this site. I have sterilized their food bowls and am hoping that I caught this problem in time. About 2 months ago we bought our normal 52-pound bag. We have an Australian shepherd and a lab/chow mix. They normally eat like pigs (especially the lab chow). They were out of small crunchy bites so I bought the next size up. They would pick at it and eventually basically refused to eat at all except the bare minimum to not starve. I thought it was the size, so we returned to the store and purchased the usual small crunchy bites. Same result. They have been on Pedigree since they were pups. It is the only food they have ever eaten and it has never been a problem. Finally becoming very concerned, we grabbed a bag of a different brand. Poor things woofed it down like they were starving, which I now realize they were. Been on the new food for 2 days now and not a speck left in the bowls. I'm so sorry I didn't realize sooner. Lab/chow also has hair loss which we just attributed to a flea allergy. I wouldn't be surprised if it starts growing back soon. There is something seriously wrong with this food! Our family's 2-1/2 year old purebred Newfoundland female has been eating Pedigree kibble for two years. About 90 days ago, my son began noticing that the dog was looking thinner and that her hair was falling out. In looking online, we all found shocking information about similar complaints in other dogs, same food in common. Our dog should weigh between 90 and 115. She's down to 68 pounds, is still missing substantial hair, and was recently tested and discovered to have pretty serious concerns with her liver even though she's been off Pedigree for three months. These are the same concerns I am seeing online from others.

I have reported this to Pedigree via their website, to the national consumer safety product commission, and to state oversight entities in WA State. I was asked by the state website if they have permission to alert the media. Please repost on this site with all detail about dates, vet findings, proof, etc. My dog is skin and bones, even though we immediately took her off the Pedigree and are supplementing her new high protein food with meat, fish oil, etc. while also using liver supplements from the vet as well as antibiotics. We want to save her if at all possible.

Pet owners who have experienced these shocking losses need to hold the company accountable to stop putting out dangerous dog food. I don't see any online information on a class action lawsuit, but am thinking it may come to that since Pedigree (aka Mars Inc.) is ignoring us. If Pedigree has responded personally to any of you, please advise that as well. So sorry to read the stories of you who lost your dogs. All I can say is that watching a dog fail is almost as horrible.

The vet so far is only $65.00, but no word from Pedigree as of today. Shame on them. This dog won't eat Pedigree, and anyone who will hear me, i will notify about this site. Thank you.

Wow, after reading these many complaints, it's become clear to me that Pedigree is a problem in our household also. We have three dogs, ages 13, 9 and 7. The middle dog and the smallest one have gotten ill for the past many months. The common factor is Pedigree wet and dry. Diarrhea, white spit up, the little one has stopped eating at all and lost weight. She will eat out of desperation at times but basically she turns her little nose up. I'm attempting to change her diet and will also do so for the other two dogs. If Pedigree is killing our pets, we need to make them stop!

I have been trying to locate Pedigree Small Breed dog food in Henderson, NV and Las Vegas, NV. Petco, Walmart, Smiths, and PetSmart no longer stock this food. My two dogs are healthy and enjoy this food. I've used Pedigree for my dogs for the last 20 years and prefer the Small Breed dog food. Why are you no longer stocking it?

We have been feeding our dogs over the past 10 years with Pedigree dry food. Just recently, I noticed when feeding our great dane/Rottweiler, the food looked moldy. It had white and green on it. I was so disgusted and worried how long did we feed her this without noticing. Luckily, she has not been sick, but I will not purchase pedigree anymore.

I have samples of the food with the upc code from the bag. I'm not looking for anything. I just want to let you know that you have just lost a long time customer.

My dogs have recently been eating Pedigree dry food, and in one bag today, as I was getting ready to feed them, I came across this white stuff and some sort of a bug wrapped up in a web. Yes, a web. I was disgusted, and both my mom and I, decided to feed them a few bits that were salvageable, and we cooked them homemade food.

After experiencing their so called customer service when I found plastic in a previous bag, I waited for my 40lb coupon for a free bag, needless to say it never came. I do plan on following this matter up, and I will never ever buy this disgusting crappy food again. My dogs have been ill this past weekend, vomiting and having excessive gas. I will go back to Halo once my finances are straightened again. Never had so many issues with this dog food before.

I have two dogs that mean the world to me and I've fed them your products for years until the day to my horror, I lost all confidence in you when I found a foreign object (bit of rubber) in the can of meat I was about to feed them.
