    If you're considering Lemonade Pet Insurance to protect your furry family member, let me save you some heartbreak: Don’t. This company exemplifies everything wrong with the American insurance system; false promises, shady fine print, and blatant denial of legitimate claims. I signed up for Lemonade thinking their quirky branding and "AI-driven" system would mean efficiency and transparency. Instead, it meant zero accountability. When my pet needed care and I submitted claims, I was met with arbitrary denials and vague justifications. Your pet's issue can be twisted into a "pre-existing condition" or a "non-covered expense," even if it clearly falls under what they advertise.

    Their entire model seems designed to rake in premiums without ever paying out. Want reimbursement for a vet visit? Good luck. Need help during a stressful medical emergency? Prepare to fight tooth and nail through a soulless chatbot and endless bureaucracy. The cherry on top is their smug, tech-bro marketing that tries to convince you they’re "different" from traditional insurers. Spoiler: They’re not. They’re just as predatory and profit-driven, hiding behind a veneer of pastel colors and cute illustrations. My vet no longer recommends Pet Insurance because it's a scam. Save yourself the extra money and pay out of pocket.

    Quite simply the best insurance company I have ever dealt with in my 60 years. They are super responsive. Have a simple claims process. My last claim was posted for a vet's visit on 4th December and was paid into my account on the 9th of december.

    Filing claims with Lemonade has been very easy. The preventative ones get approved almost immediately and match what the contract says it will cover. For claims in regards to accidents/injuries, I had one claim within a year. It was around a cracked tooth. And while dental cleaning wasn't covered in my dog's plan, the injury for the cracked tooth was. So while the processing took a little bit of time, I was pleased with the outcome and what was covered. It showed that Lemonade cared about my dog's health and stayed true to what I contractually signed with them. I will continue to use them due to the transparency and ease of use.

    Lemonade Pet Insurance is the real deal! Our dog has had a few unfortunate illnesses requiring vet care, and Lemonade has always paid exactly what they said they would. The last claim was paid in 1 second! Of course, we don’t want claims, but if we ever need them, they’ve been there. Highly recommended!

    Literally a scam. No one will call you back or have any answers. Just a useless app with people that don’t actually work there and if you actually get a human on the other line, they won’t be able to help you with anything.

    The pet insurance feature is superb! Glad I had coverage. My pup had emergency labs that were needed over a 48hr period. I didn't diagnostics were covered, I'm sure glad it was!!     Very glad I switched to Lemonade for my dog's insurance, I wish I switched sooner!! For the price the service and coverage are very good.     We have Lemonade insurance for our 10 month old pup. I took out the insurance a few months ago thinking I probably wouldn’t need it, but the pup did get sick with an ear and skin infection. I put in a claim on a Sunday and by the following Thursday of the same week the claim had been settled. Everything was done electronically so there were no piles of paperwork to submit. What an awesome experience. I highly recommend this company. If you can get all your records from your vet electronically to attach them to the claim, this will certainly expedite your claim.

    My boxer pulled a leg muscle early Saturday morning and we took him to Vet , the bill was very high. My Lemonade insurance covered 80% of the bill in which they reimbursed me in my account on the following Wednesday.     I have had Lemonade Pet Insurance for a little over a year now and I cannot even begin to put into words how amazing they have been. I have 2 dogs, a 4 year old Italian Greyhound and a 1 year old Whippet...Needless to say vet bills can add up.     I selected Lemonade for pet insurance when I first adopted my dog, not knowing how much they would help us in the future. After years of having our policy and never needing to make a claim, my dog was recently (and still is) dealing with early symptoms of a rare liver disease. I am now a forever fan of Lemonade, and recommend them to EVERYONE! The claims and reimbursement process is so fast and easy, which is critical when your dog is receiving frequent tests and medications!     Hey let's face it. Having money kicked back to you to help offset the cost of your pet's veterinarian bills is a must in this economy, especially for emergency situations. I have enjoyed the experience I have had with Lemonade. Yeah, sure there are some things that are not covered, such as dental cleanings, but with the money I save on preventative, and emergency situations, that's not such a big worry. The fast, and effective way the claims are done, makes me a very happy customer. Funds usually deposit the next day after filing a claim. I have no regrets on choosing lemonade pet insurance!

My kitten had a preventative appointment and everything was reimbursed up to 90% under the kitten policy. I have accident and injury on both of my cats as well.     I am very happy with Lemonade. So far my experience has been easy, my cat Simon had a rare pulmonary disease and I was spending thousands of dollars on his treatment, and I filled out the claims and I really I thought that I would have a time getting reimbursed (as usually insurances takes long time and find issues in everything) but Lemonade surprised me, after a week or so my claim was accepted and the money was in my account in couple of hours.     This year I switched over to Lemonade for my pet Insurance, and so far I am very happy with my choice. Within the past month and a half I've filed two claims for my 2 year old male golden retriever and both times the claims were reviewed and my refund was received within a week. My previous pet insurance provider sometimes took up to a month to review and approve my claims, so I really appreciate the quick turnaround as vet bills are not cheap.

    Pay attention to all the reviews regarding claim denial. They take your money immediately but then very slow on claim review (6 weeks), while tech friendly, human compassion and explanation are missing. My rep had horrible work ethic and made up rules about pre-existing conditions. Shelters beg for pet adoption to prevent kill orders and Lemonade offers false hope of preventative care and emergency coverage. Christina was my rep and she stated that my kitty’s dehydration and lethargy was a preexisting condition. She had lethargy after her vaccines when we adopted her. My kitty gets lethargy again and Christina made it a preexisting condition and would not cover a $115 claim. There’s also no accountability checks, supervision etc. While the claim is low, this is principle and I care about wasting money. Do NOT waste your money and your time. You’ve been warned.

    Updated on 10/27/2024: I appreciate your response and do understand prices are rising but my biggest increases seem to be after my pup started on his ** which is about $70 a mo. (My dog only needed it every 2 or 3mos) I would hope that most pet ins. companies don't charge to reflect use.Y our customer service and claims process is fantastic and get 5☆ all day for that. You're a great company to deal with and the website is so user friendly as well as the claims process, the price increase is the only reason for 3☆.

    Original Review: I'm giving a middle of the road rate only because of the claims process, customer service and quick claims payment. My yorkie is 9 and has only medical issue that arose while covered with Lemonade. The price started low about 4 yrs ago, and needs allergy shots every 3 mos or so. They were paying about $63 toward the shots or a prescription of pills if I couldn't make it to the vet for his shots or if he needed more. I started out paying close to like $30-$35 about 4 yrs ago and they slowly crept up in price to $90 so I had no choice but to switch to something more affordable. Even wit

    My yorkie is healthy and I've made no other health claims but for this. I can't imagine what the increase in price would have increased to if he needed other treatments, meds or another health issue because I'm sure that would have raised my price to reflect that too. To have my premium almost double in a year is not ethical in my opinion. I hope your pet doesn't get sick or you have to use Lemonade insurance at all because they will recoup that money in premiums then you're stuck trying to find another company. I can tell you from experience, none pay for pre existing conditions so then you're stuck starting over with hopefully a healthy pet. Spot insurance turned out to be 1/3 the cost.

    When we decided to get a French bulldog puppy we knew we needed pet insurance. After a ton of research we ended up going with Lemonade.     Had both renter's insurance and still have pet insurance with them. Claim process for pets is super easy (chatbot) and quick for approvals. I did generic vaccines and annual checkup claim. Renter's insurance monthly rate is much lower than most, saying this from leasing agent perspective as I also lived in Seattle and worked in apartment industry.

    Last April my pup completely shredded her ACL leaving me with a 9000.00 bill for her surgery. I did not have insurance at this time and after being told the likelihood of tearing her other side dramatically increases I set out to find an insurance policy. I did some research and settled on Lemonade. While there is a six month waiting policy for her other leg (fingers crossed she never needs it). I found this policy to best suit my needs. I recently filed a claim for some things discovered in her annual physical and I will say the process was super fast and funds were deposited directly into my bank account.     Lemonade is the EASIEST insurance company I have ever worked with. I was so impressed the first time I filed a claim.     Absolutely love Lemonade. We have had to take our pup to the ER twice now, and both times we got money back. I have a few friends who have had pet insurance prior with other companies and have never gotten any money back on any claim. To file a claim with Lemonade is really as easy as they say it is. It takes about 10 minutes is all. I also had to call them once, and there were not a bunch of prompts to get through. Actually, the guy that was handling my claim answered the phone! So their customer service is not only easy to access, but they are very helpful and kind as well. I have nothing but great things to say about this company, and I am happy to pay this bill every month because it gives me peace of mind that my pup is always protected.

    Our 7 month old puppy got a bone lodged in his jaw. We had to get him to a vet at 6:00 am on a Monday. The entire process was super easy. I was able to do everything from my phone shortly after we got back from the ER vet. The claim was filed and paid within less than 30 minutes. All insurance should work this way.

    I would not recommend Lemonade. My pet vomited once in June from a harmless upset stomach. Because of that, when my pet ingested something that made them very sick in September, they denied the claim because they had vomited before in June and my vet made a note of it. Doesn't matter the reason for the vomiting and it doesn't matter that the episodes were completely unrelated and months apart. Don't waste your money - they'll obviously use any excuse they can to not pay their part.

    I will forever and always recommend Lemonade to anyone that has a pet. It has single handedly helped me to care for my cat this year with his recent diabetes diagnosis. I chose Lemonade for pet insurance because of the things I read online and I must say - they were all true.     Horrendous insurance. They may be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. They will not cover basic illness visits and search for any oblique reason to deny it. If your pet has one infection (ear, diarrhea, skin) prior to being insured, they will deny all future visits for any similar events. They will state that it is a "pre-existing condition". It defies common sense and they are very concrete. The site is also a real pain to submit any documentation. Stay away...

    I was initially concerned about putting in a claim online without speaking on the phone with someone. This is not the first time I’ve submitted a claim but Lemonade makes it oh so easy.     Lemonade makes me feel so lucky and safe. When I got my first dog as a puppy, I was so nervous, anything he did I wanted to go to the vet to make sure he was okay, and because of Lemonade, I did. Now that he’s older I continue to take him when needed with no fear. When I’m out of town I always tell the dogsitter, if anything weird happens at all, just take him to the vet, no problem.     I was in the pet ER for 28 hours with my golden retriever who had aspiration pneumonia. The bill was $3600. Without pet insurance, I was have lost all of that. After comparing many providers Lemonade had the best prices by far. They are also so quick with approving claims.     I’ve just submitted my first claim for my dog’s annual checkup and I was so impressed with how quick and simple the process was. I was sure to mention that my dog had insurance at the vet. They made and sent the receipt to me and I provided the receipt to Lemonade and got reimbursed for more than half the cost of the appointment a few days later!

    We've been with Lemonade for a while now, starting with two dogs. Sadly, we lost one since we first signed up, but every step of the way—from signing up, to submitting claims, to receiving funds, and even canceling part of our policy when our dog passed—has been incredibly simple. I've never been so impressed with a company.

    I make it a point to submit claims before leaving the vet's office parking lot. I take my itemized receipt, open the app in my car, and start messaging their friendly person/bot to submit a claim. It's so easy. The first time, you need to enter your vet's information, which takes a little longer, but after that, it's quick. You select your vet, the services received, add the totals, and explain why your dog needed the visit (if it wasn’t for preventative care). You can do this via voice memo, video message, or email. After submitting, they typically get back to you in a few days, and we’ve never waited more than two weeks for a decision. It's usually just 3-5 business days, with the money automatically direct deposited into our account shortly after. We don’t have to do anything—it's so simple.

    I wish other companies would follow Lemonade's lead. Thank you for being an honorable company and not setting up ridiculous loopholes to "win" your money back from customers. We also have a life insurance policy through Lemonade, and we wouldn’t change it for anything. In fact, we're considering getting another. We have a meeting with our current home insurance rep this month, and if they don't meet our expectations, we'll be switching to a combined policy with Lemonade.

    I have really enjoyed having Lemonade. Prior to that, I was with another big-name pet insurance company for at least 5 years. Not once did anything get approved for reimbursement. Essentially I was paying for nothing. The cost went from $106 to $113, which was reasonable. Then $113 to $148, not great but we can make it work. Finally from $148 to $192 and that was my limit. I couldn't pay close to $200 monthly to a company that never even approved my claims. I searched around and did a lot of comparing and settled on Lemonade. It has the same coverage but is significantly cheaper. I put our first claim in and to my surprise, it was covered! Most recently I put a claim in for $87 (the cost of his medication) and didn't include the other items on the receipt because I didn't think they qualified. To my surprise, they took the time to review the whole receipt and I got $200+ back! The process is so unbelievably easy and I've been loving it.

    After researching almost a dozen pet insurance companies, we decided to go with Lemonade because they offered the best preventative package for our rescued bulldog. The claim process and user interface for submitting a claim is surprisingly easy, and if a claim is denied, the company is easy to contact and thoroughly explains their reasoning and suggestions for moving forward.     Everyone I've had contact with has been wonderful. They make everything as easy as possible to not only file a claim, but can edit your claim if the service/medications provided were not listed on the list of things covered. I suggest pet insurance to everyone I can. It is definitely worth the price for the peace of mind. I have save much more money on veterinary care than I spend on insurance.     Lemonade is super user-friendly. Everything you need as far as making a claim is right beneath your fingertips. It’s self explanatory and takes less than 10 minutes to submit a claim.     I chose Lemonade for pet insurance based solely on internet reviews and have not regretted it for a second. I have had a policy with them for almost 2 years now and have filed multiple claims, ranging from normal, annual vaccines to kennel cough visits to x-rays when he broke a toe running around the yard. The claim filing process, on the app, is INCREDIBLY easy. For example, I filed last week for a kennel cough illness visit, and it took maybe 5 minutes to file on my phone, and the money for my coinsurance coverage was wired into my bank account that same day.     Why buy pet insurance? Typically, you do that to protect something that has high value. My fur baby is like my child and I wanted the peace of mind knowing that if something should happen, I could help her. A few weeks ago, she had an emergency that required 3 nights in the animal hospital to treat a severe case of pancreatitis. I thought we lost her. The vet/animal hospitals require you to pay upfront and of course you want to save your baby's life, so you say YES!! The bill was a little over $7,500.

    Most important, she recovered, she is ok!! Then came the stress of the financial burden. The process to submit a claim with Lemonade was EASY. You have the option to record a voice note or video to explain what happened, it's easy to upload documentation from the vet/animal hospital and you can track the progress of the claim right from your phone.

    I submitted the claim on a Tuesday and by the next Tuesday, 90% of the total bill, minus my deductible was in my account. I cannot say enough how much peace of mind having Lemonade has given me. Some companies make you jump through ridiculous hoops and process. With Lemonade it was SO EASY!! I tell all my friends and family that having this peace of mind is priceless; but you need the right partner and for me Lemonade is it!

    Questions I get include, how much is it? How much will they cover? What will they cover? The answer is, it depends (age of dog, any pre-existing conditions, the type of plan you want, etc.) It doesn't hurt to look at the plans and get a quote. I'm so grateful I did. For me, making sure my girl is protected and can get the care she needs, when she needs it, is TOP priority. Lemonade made that possible for me. They have a customer for life if they continue to provide this level of customer care and service.

    They denied to pay my claim citing pre-existing conditions even though it was a claim for an ear infection and dermatitis which had not re-occurred for more than two years prior to the current infection. Their policy states the following: 'Conditions that existed before the policy’s Start Date or during a Waiting Period, such as Chronic Conditions, Bilateral Conditions, or intervertebral Conditions aren’t covered. However, we do cover some Pre-Existing Conditions that can be Cured, so long as there have been no symptoms or treatment for at least 12 months. Knee Conditions cannot be cured.' How would an ear infection and dermatitis that had been treated with antibiotics more than two years ago and not recurred be classified as 'pre-existing condition? Daylight robbery of premiums.

    They are the absolute worst. If your dog has any symptom ever that was written by a vet and your pet goes in and gets an exam or ER and they write one of those symptoms again (even if it’s not the reason you went in for) they will NOT cover it. Also it’s a hassle filing the claim and getting in touch with customer service. The staff is also the absolute worst. Don’t go with Lemonade.

    I have a 1 year pet mix dog named Izzy. I chose Lemonade Pet insurance based on a Google search of pet insurance companies in which Lemonade ranked in the top 5 pet insurance companies. Initially they handled my basic wellness visits without any issues. But when I submitted a claim for a limping issue my dog was having that’s when their true colors shown through. Upon checking into to veterinary office for the limping issue I started to the vet technician that I believe she is limping on the same side that the Humane Society told me was fractured. I misspoke…the records from the Humane Society stated that my dog’s fractured was on the right side. Because of what “I” said my claim was denied. This was a new symptom.

    In order to determine what was causing the limping the veterinarian did X-rays on my dog’s hind legs which showed that there was a previous fracture to her right side and that she has hip dysplasia (common in a lot of breeds). The veterinarian also prescribed pain and joint medication. My bill was $515. My original claim was filed on June 7th 2024 and was informed that it was denied on June 11th 2024. I admittedly appealed their decision. I’ve submitted all the medical records from the Humane Society and VCA (the veterinary clinic) has provided Lemonade with all the necessary medical records plus an additional letter clarifying that there no previous issues with the left hind area.

    It’s been almost 2 weeks and I’m still in the appeals process. Per the agent I’m working with. Appeals are handled on a 1st in 1st out priority basis which says to me that there must be a lot customers that believe their claims were unjustifiably denied. Not a good look for Lemonade indicating that there’s quite a backlog of appeals. Please remember that it’s not the fault of the agent assigned to you. They are just workers doing what the company is paying them to do. It’s the company. In it to make money and for now using every trick they have to keep that money. They haven’t been in the Pet Insurance long…entered in 2015. After I’m done with this appeal I’ll be canceling my account with them and go with a more established Pet Insurance company. This has been a very frustrating experience.

    I cancelled with Lemonade Pet Insurance because they refused to cover my visit to a vet because they claimed the insurance does not cover the vet's examination, only the treatment. My dog was ill and vomiting, so I needed the vet to look her over and prescribe treatment. The vet bill was $71. When I argued that the insurance was supposed to cover the illness or injury, the agent said yes, but not the vet's examination or diagnosis of the illness. So, I ended up paying for the visit to the vet, although I had been putting out more than $500 a year for coverage.

    During the quote generation process, they ask questions about your pet's health, which I answered honestly and the quote says we are providing these services for a 3 year old cat with diabetes, and then after I paid for a full year of the policy, they said since he was previously diagnosed with diabetes, his vet visits and medicines are not covered. This is a scam. At no point during the quote generation process did they indicate in any way that these would not be covered, until they got the money. They are a scam. Do not buy. For any kind of rescue animal that has health history, this is a terrible company. I'm sure if you have a newborn puppy or kitten with no health history it might be ok, but now I would not recommend them to anyone.

    Absolute garbage. I’ve been paying for insurance from them since last year, and I brought one of my other cats to the vet because he was sneezing. They tried to tell me that they can’t reimburse me because he has pre-existing conditions which is untrue. My other cat mordecai was sick months prior to that. And this stupid vet got their names mixed up and told them that my cat that I was trying to get money back for was sick when he never was so I paid pet insurance for NO REASON. Never got the money back after I tried to explain to them that the vet has my cats' names mixed up. They’re both black and look pretty similar! If your cat has been to the vet within six months prior to you making a claim with them rest assured, you probably won’t get your money back.

It’s been weeks not like initially stated saying 48hrs. And still status is “waiting for vet to send medical records.” I called vet and they sent it early on the claim but I still have the same status.

    All is not as it seems.... My clinic bundles the wellness visit and doesn't separate it by specific shot, etc., So out of $273.96...I only get back $55. That does not even cover the premium amount for one month of coverage.

    My worst experience with a pet insurance carrier. My Golden Retriever contracted Parvo and was saved after a lengthy hospital stay (and pricy vet bill). After 3 weeks of review, Lemonade DENIED my claim because they determined it was caused by a faulty vaccine. Now I’m out $13,000 because they need to argue with the manufacturer over responsibility. I’ve used 2 other companies in the past before that were faster and paid out claims according to their policy. Definitely avoid these guys at all costs.

    Watch what you say during your initial vet visit, they will use it against you! I took my cat in back in January after adoption from the shelter. I casually mentioned to the vet I noticed my cat had some diarrhea probably because she was a stray and ate contaminated food on the street, else everything was fine. Doctor sent me home with a med. 4 months later, she has another episode of diarrhea and I took her to the vet, everything checked out, and I was told probably because I changed food without phasing it in. I submitted for reimbursement, took them 10 days to deny my claim citing pre-existing condition and within 1 year of initial vet visit any diarrhea symptoms, regardless of what caused it, is considered pre-existing condition. They will not accept argument that Symptom ≠ Illness. If my cat gets into trash and gets another upset stomach, YUP, pre-existing condition. WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

    I started a new policy with Lemonade about a week ago and I had a question about what happens if an illness is discovered during a preventative visit because those wait times are different. I was given several different answers, was on the phone over an hour. Transferred five times. I was then told that I was being transferred to a licensed agent to go over the policy and my questions. I was transferred to someone named Nathan who I found out later was not actually a licensed insurance agent at all. Nathan accused me of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud by saying I must know my cat is already sick to ask these questions. He then told me he was going to put a note in my account to make sure that future illness claims were not paid out. I reminded him he had my cat's medical records and nothing in there indicates that she's sick at all and that this is a very serious accusation.

    There is no one you can speak to that's in the United States at all which normally isn't a problem but when you're dealing with underwriting and insurance that is definitely a problem. There is no repercussions for what this agent did which is tantamount to a federal crime. I will be canceling my policy and starting over again with another company. I will also be filing a formal complaint with the insurance commission. I have literally never seen anything like this in my life and I have had pet insurance for years. I also work in healthcare.

    Lemonade looked good from other websites, but make sure you read the fine print. We took out pup to the vet AFTER he already passed their 14 day illness waiting period. At the time he was living with two other dogs, and one of them got worms about three weeks after we signed up. Fearing our dog might have worms, we took him to the vet who proceeded to test for everything under the sun save for tape worms. 5k later, we try to file a claim and they say “pre existing condition”. I read the fine print and they said they started covering illness after 14 days… which was a lie… They use any excuse to deny a claim, in this case they said it was pre existing… even though my dog's stool sample did not come back positive for tape worms… but somehow it’s pre existing. Go figure.

    Absolutely horrible experience. It is truly a scam not a pet insurance company. I had a top plan paying $90 for a year with included neutering procedure. They denied 99% of my visits under false pretenses of “preexisting condition” in a small 4 months puppy. I paid for neutering $500 and got $100 reimbursement. They denied paying surgery materials fees and anesthesia because it is preventative and not an accident. I would have been better off just saving $90 per month and paying out of pocket. Stay away from them!

    We tried them and as soon as we made our first claim which we had three different bills but we only filed for one so we weren't trying to claim a bunch of stuff. So we only filed the one of three and it took them two weeks to tell us they wouldn't pay it! Screw them and their insurance!

    …until you actually file a claim! Lemonade Pet Insurance is quite a LEMON, read on… When I filed my first claim for my cat suddenly, out of the blue tedious paperwork was requested. In the process providing all these, it became obvious that different departments do not communicate with each other and do not consult the paperwork they already have been provided during the signup and claiming process by me. This resulted in mile-long numerous emails exchanged between Lemonade and myself having to repeat same information over and over again to different persons, re-uploading documents, waisting a sea of time ending a frustrating saga that took more than 4weeks, nearly 30 days resulting with me… obviously cancelling the policy for an at-the-end filed claim of $51. Two stars because it was as easy to cancel my policy as to sign-up.

    If I could give zero stars I would. Not only did they take 5 times as long as they quote on a claim file and fail to follow up with me on three different occasions they will find any minor excuse to deny a claim. Not only did my dog's vet clear a condition as not existing but months later they claimed his new illness was related to a previous visit and denied his claim. Unless you are are looking for insurance for a pet that has never seen a vet for an issue I do not recommend this company as they will find any excuse to deny a claim.

    I have been with Lemonade for two years. When I began they quoted at around $30 for my German Shepherd which was great as it was the most basic package. Since then, 2023 they raised it to $42.00 no reason given then 2024 they raise it to $52.00- this insurance almost does NOTHING for your pet. It does not cover pet visits, does not cover preventative care, does not cover grooming, does not pay for neutering, the only thing this insurance covers is if your pet is injured you still pay a $250 deductible before it kicks in and your out of pocket maximum is $20,000.

    This insurance is honestly a scam if I have ever seen one, we have received no benefit and they continue to raise prices an absurd amount from the initial quote and while promising “the lowest rates” without any changes from my side to the policy. My dog is healthy, has no medical issues and we have kept up on all visits and vaccinations (which we pay for out of pocket as Lemonade does not cover) and yet they raise your rate every year.     Bought this pet insurance for a new kitten. The policy covered congenital issues. My vet thought that the kitten might have a liver shunt because she was small (this would be a congenital condition). We had the testing done and Lemonade refused to pay for it because it was 'preexisting'. Um, yes, lemonade, everything congenital is preexisting. We paid the $400 for the test and dropped the worthless insurance. My advice is to save $25 in a jar each month and just pay for your vet bills that way. Lemonade pet insurance is useless and they are not even nice to deal with when you have an issue.

They will "politely" deny deny deny despite doctors' notes or anything! Stay away, you will be throwing money out the window.     Unfortunately, I did end up filing with my state department of insurance but Lemonade has reconsidered their decision and I’ve been appropriately reimbursed Clementine’s medical bills. Going forward, her inhalers will be paid for without issue and I will admit they’re extremely fast about reimbursement for accidents. Clem had a foreign body claim and follow up that were approved same day and the money was in my account the next morning. Still on the fence about using them for any other pets going forward and my other pup, Dakota, has been insured with ManyPets at a much cheaper rate with better coverage. However my rating is no longer at one star for them.

    I’m extremely upset with Lemonade right now. I adopted a 5 yr bully mix back in April who unfortunately contracted kennel cough before I could insure her but her health has been decent outside of that. Now here we are months later well after my waiting period ended on July 11th and she’s been diagnosed with chronic bronchitis by her GP. Likely had it since my first claim at the end of August AFTER her waiting period. She’ll need to be on an inhaler for the rest of her life, a medication that needs to be ordered from Canada because it cost well over $300 in the US. Because she had kennel cough one time and recovered within the week, Lemonade is considering any illness that has coughing as a symptom a pre-existing condition.

    That exempts her from heartworm disease, heart disease, tracheal collapse, pneumonia, canine influenza, etc. At least 8 illnesses that cost hundreds to treat/manage because she had kennel cough one time. They don’t care about your pet's medical charts if they can’t use it against you to deny everything. If the claims adjuster fails to reach out within the next 48 hrs as promised, I’ll be filing with the state. This is fraud and really crappy considering the rising cost of vet care in the US. Pet parents wanting to do the right thing and not make permanent decisions based on financial insecurity can’t even rely on companies whose entire purpose is to make vet care affordable. Will be switching my male off soon.

    I signed up for a basic policy when my puppy was about 3 months old. They considered “itching” which was noted on his initial exam, to be a pre-existing condition. I should have kept shopping around at that point. I filed a claim months later for hives/environmental allergies (which duh, causes itching) that was covered. Great!

    I just now file a claim 1 yr later, and this claim is denied because he doesn’t have hives right now? Oh! And when your policy renews, apparently everything you were seen for previously, becomes a “pre-existing condition”. I have wasted about $40 a month for the last 2 years. Would have been better to: A. Look around for a better and more established company B. Put money aside in case of an accident. I’m nearly positive all these glowing reviews are bought and paid for by Lemonade. Save your time and money, find another policy. This is a garbage policy.

    Literally won't pay any pet claims if your pet has ever sneezed before! Seriously! My dog had kennel cough when I adopted her from the shelter. I brought her to the vet where she was diagnosed. That claim was paid by Lemonade. But that was the last one. Every single time I have brought her to the vet for anything upper respiratory....denied! They say it's a pre-existing condition. Sneezing with any other symptoms...denied! Coughing with any other symptoms...denied! She literally isn't allowed to sneeze or cough again for a year otherwise anything I file will be considered a pre-existing condition. This last time she had bronchitis. She was so sick that after weeks of going to the vet and getting different meds, I brought her to the emergency vet. She has never had bronchitis before. Those claims DENIED because they are similar to the kennel cough. This company is a JOKE!

    I would never recommend this company. I cancelled my pet insurance over a year ago but they continued to take 13 more payments. My claim was denied. They had me listed under renters insurance even though I told them at least 5-6 times that I had pet insurance. They refuse to give my money back. Trying to talk to a live person is impossible. I am going to let the Better Business Bureau know about this company. I can't believe they took 13 more payments after I cancelled. I even gave them the cancellation number and they still denied my claim. That's almost 150.00 dollars. My recommendation. Find a different insurance for your pet because this company will take your money even after you cancel.

    I filed a wellness visit claim for my dog which is covered under the preventative care on the insurance policy. Lemonade changed this to an illness visit, they stated they did this because probiotics were on the invoice. I did not even file the probiotics as part of the claim, I only filed the preventative care items. They took it upon themselves to change the claim based on the invoice. They also added in that he was “not eating/decreased eating, anorexia/Gastrointestinal Issues” which is not found in any of his veterinarian records for this visit, nor any visit in the past year.

    Since when does an 85-pound dog classify as anorexic? His veterinarian records show he has gained five pounds since his last visit. Clearly not anorexic. When they processed the claim, they applied the preventative care items to the $250 deductible. His policy clearly shows that preventative items are covered and are reimbursable. I even received an email from the claims adjuster on June 28, 2023 assuring me that I would be reimbursed for all preventative care items.

    We took insurance when our pup was 8 months old. We added the preventive care since it covered part of the neuter surgery costs and vaccine costs. What we loved - The speed of the claim handling. Everything we filed was cleared within the same day. What we didn't like - Vet fees are covered at an additional cost. In our area the vet fees are half the bill so I wish we had covered this.     Lemonade provides an incredible, intuitive and technologically-advanced experience. They just don't honor claims as they should. They will dig deeply into your pet's medical records to find any hint of a pre-existing condition. They don't honor a diagnosis if they see symptoms and signs of the condition in earlier vet visits. In our case, after an incredibly long and arduous journey to discover the cause of my basset hound's incessant ear infections, our regular vet referred us to a dermatology specialist to test the dog for severe allergies. That doctor made a diagnosis and informed us the dog does have severe allergies and will have to be medicated and have a unique bathing/medication routine for the rest of his life (he is approx 4-5 yrs old).

    I submitted the claim - Lemonade purports to cover allergies -- and they denied that claim and all claims moving forward based on my dog's allergies because of notes in prior visits to our regular vet discussing the possibility that allergies may be a contributing factor to the ear condition. I can't continue to pay a company that will not honor its role in the insurance process. EVERYTHING is a pre-condition if you are intellectually dishonest enough. I would recommend a less flashy, less grifter-y company for your pet insurance needs.

    Our dog had seizures for the first time at 5 years old. Because this was our first claim, Lemonade requested medical records for the previous 12 months. Skip ahead one month from the initial claims submission and now their underwriter is asking for his neuter records from when he was 6 months old (4 1/2 years ago). The reviewer claims this is standard practice and written in the contract. The contract clearly states "nose to tail" medical records for previous 12 months. Requesting records for unrelated medical care well beyond the contracted review period service stinks of intentional delays or intent to not pay.     I purchased Lemonade Pet insurance for my dog last. I went ahead and got preventative maintenance as well being that he had vaccines due. Preventative claims were easy. Had no issues. Follow up a few weeks later for a second round of vaccine doses at which point he had a little irritated spot on his tail that was records state was “possibly” from allergies or a bug bite and was treated as inflammation with an anti inflammatory not allergy meds. Got him some meds. Claim went through fine. No issues. Ordered flea and tick meds this round as well and once I filed the claim they then told me the decision was made to cover $65 a year max … That wasn’t the initial amount I was told, but whatever, I let it slide. It was better than nothing.

    Fast forward to this year I took Junior to the vet as his paws were getting irritated which in fact was diagnosed as allergies and he was administered an allergy shot. Filed the claim. Agent responds “case is being handled etc.” 2 days later I get an email from a new agent… Same thing and she followed up with some questions that had already been answered and she should have had on file. While the claim is still processing I get an email the day the bill is drafted out of my account regarding monthly price adjustment for age. It wasn’t much so no big deal. A little more notice would have been nice though.

    Come the other day the agent finally responds to let me know my claim has been denied because his allergy was a pre-existing condition. I said there must be some mistake as he had some inflammation on his tail a while back but, he was insured at the time. She then let me know that due to this being a new policy year that it was pre existing.

    Needless to say I have canceled this policy. It was made quite clear that they will come up with whatever possible reason to fight paying out a claim and I don’t trust them to have my best interest if something major were to happen. All I can say is be careful. Everyone I know with a negative experience has stated it started out great, but once you’re an existing customer and they’ve gotten your money they’re going to do whatever it takes to not have to pay anything out when the time comes.

    I've loved working with Lemonade. They saved me about $100/mo on homeowner's insurance for the equivalent coverage that I had previously. I also use them for pet insurance which, again, has saved me money (especially with the bundle).     Open the claim was really difficult. I have to record my face and voice about the situation to open the claim. Keep send the email for verification even I sent 3rd times. The main issue is there was no pre-existing illness but claim denied. I submitted vet record. Doctor also confirmed that illness is not pre-existing with proof letter but agent denied the claim. This company is not honest and I am not recommend at all.

    I have been happy Lemonade customer since 2018, when purchased Renters Insurance from them for the first time. Liked modern look, simplicity and open attitude and was happily paying the premiums every months. A little over a year ago we brought in a cat into our family and when I discovered that Lemonade also offers Pet Insurance product, I was very happy -- one less shopping around I need to do.

    It was all nice and shiny until the first time we went to the vet (cat thrown up a few times) and discovered that vet visits weren't covered (there was no such extra option when I was signing up). No problem, I thought and reached out to Lemonade to amend my policy to add vet visits fees to it. I was told that since my policy had just renewed for another year (just a month ago) I can't change it and I will have to cancel this policy and create a new one if I want vet visits to be covered. After doing that (in June) in about 3 weeks, we got worried again that the cat seemed to be a bit more lethargic than he was, pairing that up with subsided appetite.

    We brought him to the vet, did some lab tests (which didn't find anything except mildly elevated creatinine levels) after which I've filed a claim w/ Lemonade for a total a little under 500$. In about 2 weeks I've got a rejection from Lemonade representative stating that in the vet notes it was stated that cat "has been losing weight since May" which is now considered a pre-existing condition by Lemonade.

    A few issues with that:

    1. First of all vet indeed concluded that cat lost weight (about 0.3lb or ~100g, practically nothing) _since last visit_ (which occurred at the end of April)

    2. Cat has been covered by Lemonade policies ALL THAT TIME. Yes, my newest policy is only a months old, but I had to cancel my old one and issue a new one simply because Lemonade was not able to amend the coverage, and actually their own representative did suggest me to do that.

    Would I sign up just a month ago for the first time I wouldn't be mad at such a decision, but given that the cat WAS INSURED by Lemonade this WHOLE TIME for more than a year before that, makes it very clear for me how far short Lemonade actually falls from their claimed promises.

    I purchased pet insurance for my month old kelpie puppy soon after I got him. It covered accidents, and illness, and chronic conditions (such as cancer, congenital diseases) as long as they were discovered post insurance purchase. My puppy was a young healthy male. However was raised on a farm and kept outdoors for the first few weeks of his life. So when I took him to the vet for his first set of puppy shots, I asked that he be tested for parasites and a urinary tract infection because he was also having potty training issues. It turned out he DID have giardia (a very common parasite on farms, usually obtained from drinking contaminated water or eating other items contaminated by feces) and a really bad urinary tract infection (UTI) (not surprising if drinking contaminated water). My puppy was treated with antibiotics for 30 days and his infection was gone.

    If any of you out there don't know what a urinary tract infection (UTI) is, it is "a treatable infection in any part of your urinary system (most involve the lower urinary tract--the bladder and or urethra)". Females are more susceptible than males and the infection can be more serious if left untreated and it spreads to the kidneys. My vet did say it was unusual to see a puppy so young with a UTI this bad, which is why she said if the problem continued we should make sure the infection is gone and if this is a persistent problem, we may have to rule out other things (like something wrong with kidneys).

    About a week after his first set of shots/vet visit, I purchased Lemonade pet insurance and in past medical history informed them he had giardia and a UTI, but both conditions were treated and now cleared up. (NEITHER of these conditions would be considered a CHRONIC medical condition, unless there were other factors involved, such as kidney issues). Cut to over a month later, my pup is doing great, no UTI symptoms have occurred (leaking or dribbling urine, refusing to drink water) he had his appointment for his 2nd set of shots, neuter procedure and microchip, they ran another urinalysis to make sure no infection lingered, and did a kidney function panel to see how his kidneys are functioning. His results were perfect, no UTI/no infection and kidney function is good. So, I'm thinking thank goodness this is over, and we are finally done with this mess.

    Now, I am not sure if anyone else has had a pup that will literally eat anything, but this is my first experience dealing with this--none and I mean NONE of my other dogs have eaten cat poop out the litter box, socks, sticks from outside... I mean you name it, he will try and eat it--even with 25 chew toys laying around and a bowl full of food and water. So, it may have been the ingestion of more feces (litterbox) but the following month (4.5 months now) starts dripping urine again and refusing to drink water (because it hurts to pee). It's of course after hours when I realize what's going on, so I take him to the nearest 24 hr vet, they run a urinalysis, and yes, he is positive for a UTI.

    This vet visit and labs (chemistry panels) were almost $400, now mind you this is the FIRST claim I submitted with Lemonade, it should be covered, considered an illness, easily cleared up and treatable. All medical reports submitted and claim filed the following day. 3 days later I get an email from my "claims specialist" asking what my puppy's "gotcha date was, his date of birth, if he's my only dog..." and other basic information, all of which they should already know/have because it was submitted when I obtained the policy. So, semi annoying, but okay; I answer the email providing the requested information. A few days later I get another email from a different "claim specialist" saying that my initial specialist is on leave and she'd be helping me out now...sorry for delay etc. No problem.

    In the meantime I follow up with my regular veterinarian who suggests we do an ultrasound to make sure my pup's kidneys and the rest of his plumbing are okay. They also do another kidney lab and urinalysis. His kidney labs are good, and thankfully his ultrasound looks great too--so no abnormal plumbing or kidneys (NOTHING CHRONIC to worry about). However, he still had a bit of the UTI so she suggested a stronger antibiotic and said we needed to make sure he is more hygienic (don't let him lick his nether regions, drink out of toilets, give him a bath once a week, gate up the cat litter) all precautions we need to be taking. So, we are like "roger that!" and life has been good since.

    However, it's a new month now and still no word on my claim for the ER visit. I email my new claims specialist and now ask if I can also attach the ultrasound since this pertains to the original claim (is a follow up to see why he is getting the UTIs). The ultrasound claim visit totaled ($700). Claims specialist says, of course, I will attach it to this claim since it's still in progress. Another week goes by, nothing. Second week goes by, she sends me an update and says she's having trouble getting full medical record for my pup. I state I can speak with the vet the following day to ensure it gets to her. Instead she calls me the following day (a month after my initial claim) to tell me that all claims are denied because my puppy was seen and treated for a urinary tract infection (his 1st vet visit coming from the farm) prior to the purchase of Lemonade (done a week later) THEY--(being Lemonade) consider it a chronic condition.

    When I argued, mind you I'm a retired EMT with 20 years of medical service, that UTIs are NOT a chronic condition, and that the ultrasound he had literally proved JUST THAT--it isn't nor will it be a chronic medical condition (no congenital deformities or abnormalities that needed surgical correction, or non-functional kidneys) she said it didn't matter, nor would they be changing their minds. Since he was seen prior for this, THEY consider it a chronic condition. So, apparently your veterinarian, doctor, as well as other certified documents or publications concerning your pet isn't the medical authority according to Lemonade Insurance.

    I guess if you are willing to trust and pay a company with poor dependability, questionable business practices, and no customer loyalty--Lemonade may be for you. Because bottom line, when it came time to actually pay out a claim, they decided to ignore medical documents, make up their own rules, (regarding what constitutes a chronic medical condition or what a short term infection is) and thoroughly misrepresent themselves as an honest, transparent business with an easy, quick claims processes.

    They may want to rewrite it to say, "Pick Lemonade, we may or may not fulfill our obligations (company to customer) to you. And by the way WE are the ones that get to decide what is medically factual (regardless of what actual medical professionals state) when it comes to determining claims status, AND our super quick and easy claims process, sometimes not so quick or easy (sometimes takes a month or longer) and we probably won't pay out anyway."
