Since Hurricane Milton, I cannot get a hold of anyone at Extra SpaceStorage I’ve called four times went to the place of course no one is around. They will not return my calls, even though that the storage unit could be damaged. At these units, everyone works remote so you can’t physically see somebody you have to talk to a computer and then someone comes on the screen. This has to be the worst Storage company ever two years ago during hurricane Ian I waited two weeks before I was allowed to go in all my stuff was ruined well over $10,000 and I ended up getting 2000. Do you think anybody cared? No. If I had gotten in there earlier I could’ve at least saved something.. They always want your money on time, but they don’t care about your stuff.

While the first few months were a wonderful experience with Life Storage, (Tarpon Springs, FL) particularly with Kathy, who is very helpful on the property, I was shocked to see the recent increase in my rent. I realize that there’s an introductory rate, but for me, a 60% increase is unacceptable. When I called the office to discuss, I was basically told that It was increased because of the Extra Space Storage rebranding. Even cable companies and cellular telephone companies don’t increase that much from their introductory pricing. Chasing away what would have been a long term customer.

This place is a scam. Stay away! They will steal and lie to you! I was broke into and everything of value was stolen! I have absolutely no doubt it was an inside job. Especially after dealing with Rose (site manager) who knew the morning of Oct 2nd and did not call me until 3:20 pm. She did not call the police or look at their so called surveillance. Do not believe their website about surveillance cameras (all else they have listed to give you peace of mind is a lie) as they are only outside and front entrance AND THEY WILL NOT REVIEW or help you in anyway!!! They have been a huge hassle from the very beginning when I gave a deposit for a 10x40 and arrived with moving company to find it was no longer available so had to try and fit all into a 10x20. Not enough space so had to pay movers additional $1,200 to haul big items from Lynnwood to Smokey Point and unload.
Found out six months later when saw the increase on my bank account that “Wendy” entered wrong address and birthdate into their system. After fixed still no notice by mail or email that they were raising my rent which happened 4x. I was completely shook when Rose finally got around to opening my locker yesterday day which was completely ransacked and devastated over what stolen! Rose acted like she could care less and not her problem. I called this morning to make sure the lock was still in place and Rose snapped, “I have a job to do and I will look when I have time.” So I called movers and here now. Going to cost me a couple grand but I refuse to worry day & night and be treated like crap!!!

Steer clear of this bait and switch operation. In a one year they raised my rent by over $100 from $174 to $280. That's $5.60/sq ft, which is 62% above average rent in LA. The location is in an industrial zone of Northeast LA, but $5.60/sq ft is what you'd pay for a prime location in Downtown Santa Monica.

Stay away from this place. The employees steal and the insurance will deny your claim. It’s all part of their game. No cameras, only elevator & entry/exit. All tops of units are open. They watch plot and steal. The insurance company deny any claim where the lock is not broken but if the top of every unit is open and all you need is a ladder why wouldn’t Extra Space Storage place strategic cameras in hallways that capture these things??? Don’t forget unexplained price hikes for no reason or warning. I'M shocked that the district attorney office has not stepped in because this is a high class theft ring as far as I’m concerned.
The insurance companies are in on it as well. The site manager asks so many personal questions when I signed up and then busted my unit 3 times while I was moving in mind you I'm on the 6th floor and then stood in front of my unit making small talk. The whole time she was sizing up my unit. I highly recommend buying a camera from TikTok or Amazon and placing it your storage so you can fight insurance when they tell you that you have no proof your unit was burglarized.

Rented a unit at what appeared to be a great rate only to have my rent almost DOUBLE after my 3rd month?? Customer service and management is non-existent so they leave their staff to have to try and rationalize that on page 3 of the contract (?) it states that they can increase the rent at any time with a 30 day notice. I told them I have no notification of an increase and he responded that they send it as a postcard (?). So when they need to send you payment reminders and contracts and to buy insurance etc everything is done by text and by email with no problem but an increase is disguised as a “postcard” so you can intentionally overlook it. So now I have to go through the time and expense of moving everything back out of this deceptive place. Very shady practices.

I was Ecstatic And didn't mind moving my things over to Gilbert. Fast forward two months later my rate goes up to a $110. I understand what their policy is on raising their rate but give me a break! I was a long time customer with Public storage and they didn't go up until maybe 2 years. I had to downsize and find a facility closer to my apartment so I decided to go with Extra Space storage because it was a reasonable rate. I would not recommend using this business to store any belongings. My unit, as well as many others were broken into 9/11/24. The culprits broke into a side fire escape door to access the facility. No response from fire, or police as far as I know on this break in. After talking to multiple customers today, this has been an ongoing problem with countless burglaries.
The insurance company has stated that the company was supposed to call and ask us if we wanted to take photos before they even touch the door to close it. We were not notified until several hours after they had closed the door. Same for every other unit that was broken into. My count was over 10 units. They had time to climb over the doors, unscrew the bolts to our locks, and pick the most expensive items from each unit at leisure.
This is not isolated. has happened consistently according to Officer Kent of the Federal Way police department. She stated "they never share the footage with us, and management isn't helpful." Footage of other facilities under Extra Space in Covington was shared with us and shows two trucks loaded to the brim. No added security measures.
I was told from I believe to be the manager that there are three entrances only. Main door which is key coded, and two fire doors. They told me the fire door was breached. When asked if there was a response from police, or fire, I was told "I won't tell you that." I believe this is an inside job, and every family I spoke to (some burglarized multiple times since January 2024,) believe this to be true. If anyone has not claimed insurance, or done a police report, I recommend doing this, as the insurance agency has the best lawyers known to man.
Long story short, if you value what you worked hard for, do not expect this company to actually care about its well-being. They have known about this problem consistently, and have added no extra measures whatsoever to stop it.

Go online and look for yourself 10x30 Web Rate $202.00, that’s to get you to bite, then the rates start going rapidly, they charge me $557.50 a month, every time I questions them about it, “That’s the going rate”. This place is infested and overpriced. Water damages. I’ve inquired a great amount of water damage in my unit. I was told to file a claim and wait. I spoke with the manager who is very clueless of the process but demonstrates a willingness to help. But in reality, she has no clue and she tries to gaslight and manipulate with threats of being locked out of your unit in 48hrs because. The only problem is I’m paid up and waiting in the claim adjuster to let me know what’s next. She lied about trying to reach unit owners about the possible damage. But there’s no evidence of this because I was never called.
The only reason I know of the damage is because I happened to go to my unit while it was being damaged by the leak and I have video footage. I'm sure if I didn’t get this footage and moved out with the damage the company would have not allowed a claim for at fault damage. This place needs better maintenance and management training. This is very inconvenient for me considering I still have to pay for storage and more help to try to salvage anything I can. This storage holds a lot of my valuables and I trusted for my things to be safe.

After speaking with ** location manager, ** Head District manager, and ** Senior District Manager, I still not even as received any apologies nor resolve for My lost! The thing is they know no customer will ever store any of their valuables if they knew it wasn't safe and they risked losing their livelihood especially due to theft. This location should be rated with zero stars. We moved some household goods into this location 3 years ago. During that time rates have significantly increased while the maintenance of the property has dramatically decreased. The facility is filthy. The bathroom facilities were vandalized and were out of service for weeks. Other renters routinely leave garbage outside the main entrance. There is no security since the keypad system has been broken for weeks. Further the facility has been infested with moths which destroyed some valuable oriental rugs and the insurance covered about 10% of our loss. My advice—-stay away.

I started renting a medium 10X10 in October 2023 for a $180 and received a notice for a price increase of $284.50 on July 12, 2024. Extra Space Storage states the increase is based on the market. I would like to understand how this is possible when currently there is a 10X10 storage unit available and priced at $189 for rent as of July 29, 2024 on their website.
Extra Space Storage needs to stop price gouging as this is unfair to the consumer in this economy today. Now I have to move my items from the storage unit because I am not in agreement with this unaffordable price increase. Extra Space Storage will inflate their prices and pass it on to the consumers in less than a year of renting a storage unit. This type of greed needs to stop with this company. Again, beware of renting from this company. They will try to pass on an affordable rate to get you in the door and then less than a year will send you an inflated price increase letter for the storage unit. Bait and Switch. They tell you the price could increase with no notice, you just do not expect it to increase as frequently as it does. I started paying $26.00 then within a month $38.00 and now $46.00 for a 5X5 unit and I have only had the unit 4 months. I suppose when there are too many empty units they make their money by raising your rent. Needless to say since they do state that the rent can increase without notice you have no recourse, when they take advantage and increase it as often as they deem necessary. Whether for operation purposes or for greed it is still misleading and problematic.. By the time they have raised your rent 3 or four times and you decide to leave, they have already made more money than you expected them to make from your rental.
I also felt a bit misled when I was told I needed to pay $19.00 for one of their locks and then when I went to fill my unit I notice more units had regular key locks. There were more units using key locks that were probably no more than $6 dollars from Walmart; than there was the Extra Storage $19.00 lock. This all began when I noticed several items missing out of my storage in April and filed a theft claim as a result of it. Fast forward from that in the interim, there was a rate increase and a dispute filed with my bank for that reason for one payment. I was thrown immediately into a "foreclosure" situation with this storage with all kinds of fees etc to the tune of over $600 to clear it up and keep them from auctioning my items off. Mind you NONE of this I was put on any notice for. On May 24 2024 I made an online payment was made to clear the balance for $614.80 that I did NOT owe to Extra Space Storage. I disputed a payment due to not getting any notice of a payment increase and this company consistently raises the cost of the rent for the same unit every 3-4 months like clockwork. I've been storing with them over 2 years so that's quite a bit at that rate.
Either way this company charged me exuberant late fees and foreclosure fees once that payment charged back and did not even bother to respond to the bank so that they could use that opportunity to steal the remaining items from my storage. On May 24 2024 spoke with Rebecca at 2pm and let her know that I was making the payment online but I do not agree with that and as a consumer I have the right to contest any purchase if It's not justified and they cannot provide me any documentation or information to support what gives them the right to place these charges on my account without notice.
The representative told me the manager (Rachel) was not in which I asked for her first. The next day at 11 am on 5/25/2024 Rebecca voluntarily went back onto my account UNAUTHORIZED and reversed my payment made THE PREVIOUS day throwing me into even further delinquency and causing my amount due to rise above $800. I have proof that after I paid the $614.80 my account was reflecting due again on 6/17/24. I have screen shots of everything. Now it stating due 4/17/24 and the way I found out was just happened to check because I know how shady this company is. All of this is in retaliation for a theft claim that I filed on my unit through my insurance because I'm missing several valuables out of my unit and I know that theft was an inside job.
I filed a police report and went through the full process which they are currently actively investigating this further. I know it was an inside job. Someone who is not even a member of management going back onto my account to single me out the next day for something you have NO control over. You reversed an ONLINE payment. It doesn't get more blatant than that and the racism and discrimination is so transparent. I can't prove it yet but I'm working on that with outside forces. It's so convenient that this never happened until I had a claim on the unit. This is blatant discrimination and customer abuse and I won't accept it. By reversing that payment Rebecca overstepped her boundaries out of pure hate and something permanent and legal needs to be done about that.
Now the price to keep my storage has went to over $800 throwing me in a financial hardship that I would not otherwise be in and that's the reason I'm filing this formal complaint and in 60 days a full lawsuit will activate against Extra Space Storage for these kinds of malicious and Deceptive Trade Practices they have been exercising. If this is happeneing to me there's no telling how many other customers this is happening to of color for sure. This is not right and if management is not willing to do something about it- which they clearly are not, I will not let up on this matter until this company is held legally responsible to the full extent the law allows for the undue financial hardship and mental anguish I have been through as a result of this. Not to mention trying to prevent me from exercising my rights as a US Consumer. That's egregious.
I have always paid my account online and with a debit card, and for some reason this time it was a problem. Once again an unspoken one because she never removed the lock off my storage after I paid on 5/24/2024 and did not want me to have a papertrail of the payment to prove exactly what I'm standing to prove with this lawsuit. Now she has restricted my access online to make payments. That's a pure attempt to get into my storage and force me out because they know I have valuable items in there and an obvious attempt to steal some more. I want to get my stuff out of this storage and never do business with these con artists again and I'm letting the entire world know about this traumatic experience because nobody deserves this that's spending their hard-earned money with ANY company.

Updated on 10/01/2024: I contacted the number provided by the company representative after my rent doubled just three months into my lease. They informed me there was nothing they could do. Now, three months after the initial increase, my rent has tripled. Unfortunately, being out of state has made it impossible for me to move out. When I spoke with the local manager, Scott, he mentioned it was a promotional rate, something they failed to disclose upfront, and it's not mentioned in the contract. To make matters worse, I found the same unit listed online for less than half the current price, seemingly baiting new customers. These predatory tactics are outrageous, and I hope this serves as a warning for others to stay away.
Original Review: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I signed up with an internet special. After 3 months they more than doubled my rate, telling me there is fine print in the contract that allows them to raise rent at their discretion. They simply have to send you a 30 day notice that they are raising it. They do this taking advantage of the fact all your stuff is moved in and you are forced to deal with rate hike. Super shady tactic. The sales rep Scott should have at minimum been required to mention this, especially since it is such an extreme price increase. Sad that they pedicate their business model to prey on people like this. Come to find out this is something they do on a regular basis to lure and trap customers.

I moved out my apartment of November of 2023. I made my reservation and put all my personal items even my children school stuff in there because they are special needs children. I had to downsize my new apartment. So, I went to the storage just so will do a bait and switch scheme to advertise people to get a storage if and when for “FREE” for one month. However, I had to pay a small fee of 61.09 so RIGHT THERE that sets off red flags. The price was for my storage lock and a down payment.
My intuition was nudging me not to do it but I had no choice. So the lady told me that after a month “free” I’ll have to pay 225.00 monthly just for my unit payment to sky rocket to 800.00. Okay, I pay it because I was being threatened that they’ll auction my items. Thereafter, AGAIN my payments recently go up a notch more and this time it was 987.00 which is a one bedroom apartment rent payment. So I get threatened again for my stuff to be auctioned if I don’t pay within a certain timeframe! Well, guess what I was told? I couldn’t go back into my unit to at least ask the bidder to get my personal details. They said they will ask and never notified me about it.
Let me tell you, THIS information was not told to me at the front desk. I’m thinking like any typical company will work with you with a payment plan. Nope. Please whatever you do because I’m so livid, do not rent out this storage place unless you can afford and make sure you can pay a high amount each time you're a few days late. They don’t care, it’s a scam. And whatever you owe is how much they put on your past due rent balance. And then still send it to collections. To me it’s not fair and I don’t want anyone to experience what just happened to me. BEWARE!

The increases in price are almost like an extortion since you have to higher movers just to get out and spend all that money to go somewhere else that doesn’t double their prices after 3 months and rip you off. No one mentioned it when I sat talking to them explaining everything to me for 30 minutes. I really didn't know I should have to think about this as I specifically agreed to that price when I agreed to rent it.
Since no one mentioned that its not true and will increase in three months, that should’ve been mentioned since we talked about the price, of that unit and other units. Yes,, it is misleading as had it been openly disclosed as other issues were verbally discussed, I would not have agreed to it. This should have been made clear, but since you’re trapped in, they know it’s too difficult for you to rent a truck, hire movers and move all your stuff or rent a truck a day or two moving labor, ugh. Deceiving and misleading but of course it’s in the fine print so technically they’re within the law and they just don’t care.

So in about a year, they have raised my monthly rate from 275/mo to now 458/month! And they have not enhanced any part of the facility, if anything it seems less cared for than before. The manager first said that was a promotional price, I said no it wasn't. Went through the entire contract. No promotional price or terms listed. I called customer service. First she said it was a promotional price. I said I am looking at the contract, where does it say that in 60 days it is going to double in price? Every time you turn around they are increasing their rent. And make sure you measure your unit. I downsized. I was going to a 5x5 unit. When I got there I brought stuff down to the new unit (transfer was done over the phone). I realized that there was no way that this unit was 5x5. I am 5 foot... I literally got down on the ground and lied down to measure. This unit was 4.5x4 at best... Back up to my original unit to put my stuff back and called them in the morning. The worker insisted that it was 5x5, and I could measure if I wanted to. Well I got back there that night and he well we will say he ate his words. I did downgrade and went to a "Measured" 5x7 unit. This was the end of Sept. I am now getting notice that my rent is going up $30 plus dollars in January. Man can I not wait to get rid of this unit. OH never mind the insure they make you pay for. When you already have it. I sent them a copy of my policy 3 times and I am still paying it.

DO NOT RENT from this Extra Space Storage location (or any for that matter). The units on the third floor of this facility, as well as the facility itself, are not secure and can easily be accessed by burglars without even having to break in. The "secure" front door entrance can be accessed without a code simply by shoving a thin stick between the sliding doors to trigger the motion sensor that opens the doors from the inside.
On the third floor of the facility, every unit has a ~four foot gap between the top of their unit and the ceiling, which is covered only by three thin metal cross bars that do not in any way prevent someone from entering your unit. All they need is a ladder. I have photo evidence of numerous other third-floor units with obvious signs of forced entry, have filed a police report, have connected with an attorney if Extra Space continues to refuse to pay me for losses, and will continue to climb the chain of command at Extra Space Storage until they do. The worst part of this entire deal: Extra Space Storage has known for a long time that their facility is insecure and that people's units are being broken into. They have done absolutely nothing about it.
They didn't notify renters on the third floor that their items may be in jeopardy or were already taken, they didn't add any security measures to secure the individual units on the third floor, and they didn't do anything to prevent illegal entrance through the front door of the building despite having ample video evidence of this occurring. The facility manager told me that she knows this has been happening and has implored corporate to allow their facility to expand employee hours to have more on-site presence, to hire additional security personnel, to upgrade the process for entrance into the building and onto the elevator, and to place additional bars across the open area atop the third floor storage units to prevent someone from being able to enter them with a ladder.
Corporate's response to everything? "No, it isn't in your budget and we are not willing to pay anything additional to cut into our profit margins, regardless of security issues." Extra Space Storage is guilty of gross negligence as they knowingly allowed their building and their renters' property to be accessed and burglarized without notifying anyone or doing a single thing about it. The only service that Extra Space Storage offers is to securely store your property for you in their facility, and they have utterly and disgracefully failed to do so, and they know it but refuse to do the right thing to remedy the situation.
To Extra Space Storage, pay me the money you owe me to reimburse me for items lost and for the rent I paid to you to secure my property. You did not perform the single function that you claim to offer and that I paid you to perform. Myself, along with many other renters, deserve compensation given your gross negligence and the liability you assume by operating your business as you have. If you are in the same situation as I am, reach out to me and join me in the righteous fight against Extra Space Storage and yet another example of corporate greed at the cost of everyday people.

The whole booking experience has been pleasant and as easy as can be. Raymond is the manager at the Gilroy location and he is OUTSTANDING. It’s hard doing this kind of thing and it helps to have someone like Raymond there to make one feel confident that things will go smoothly.
Update: When we got there on a Saturday with our truckload, the elevator wasn’t working. Raymond tried to get it working but could not, so he let us put our storage in an empty ground floor unit and said he’d let us know when the elevator is fixed. Raymond is great, and stuff happens, however, this has caused an obvious cascade of problems. Raymond called me on Monday to let me know the elevator is fixed, but due to logistics our move to the final upstairs unit was delayed until the following week. I’m giving 5 stars for Raymond, but the company should have compensated me for all the trouble.
Update: Approximately 3 months after I moved in, they raised the rent by 50%!! This is a horrible “bait & switch” and I’m very angry. I called and complained and asked them to help me out with a lower rate, but they would not budge. We’re on a tight military budget and they wouldn’t even offer a military rate. Wow. I haven’t had the time or energy to do so (and frankly needed to cool down from my rage) but as soon as possible I’m moving out and letting them know why…because this is unacceptable. If I could give Extra Space Storage zero stars, I would. I'm a healthcare provider, & stored my things with Extra Space Storage in NJ during the COVID-19 pandemic, because I was deployed to several intensive care units across the country. I live in NM, but my closest family lives in NJ. I could not anticipate surviving as a healthcare worker, so I stored my items where my family could get to them, in case something happened to me. Never in a million years could I have imagined this horrific outcome with this company.
I returned to NJ in June of 2023 to move out of the unit, & discovered the entire contents of my storage unit flooded, & covered in rodent feces & urine. I was told by the manager Bryce that their facility was damaged by Hurricane Ida, & a rodent infestation from a construction project in the adjacent building that my unit happened to share a wall with. The movers I hired that day to move me from the 10' x 23' unit into separate smaller units refused to continue when they discovered everything covered in rodent feces, urine, & mold. Rodent droppings carry the deadly Hantavirus, & it is both hazardous & dangerous to disturb/cause the virus to become aerosolized.
The local mgr Bryce still insisted that I either sign over all of my storage contents to them, or come back into the unit to get items that I want, & leave the rest. He insisted that I return to NJ in eight weeks, & vacate the unit. Sounds favorable until you consider the health hazard of aerosolizing Hantavirus; & also consider I am not local, & must plan for travel to NJ again after my recent trip in June. I requested Extra Space refund the months that I continued to pay after they were aware that their facility was flooded & rodent infested from a construction project; & that they bring in a professional company to move all of the contents into open air in the parking lot, since I was not notified in a timely manner to recoup my losses through FEMA. Doing so would allow me a greater degree of safety, to sort through & get the critical items that I need; & see what, if anything, can be salvaged.
I reported the facility to the local health department, & they are under monitoring for improvements in their pest control. They were made to contract with a new pest control vendor, set fresh traps with fresh bait, & agree to maintain an appropriate regular bait & trap reset schedule. Bryce told me that customers whose units were impacted by Hurricane Ida should've received an email to file for federal compensatory damages through FEMA, who provided coverage for the losses/items damaged by the Hurricane. I never received an email.
When I asked Bryce to forward the original email to me, he stated the IT department told him it was erased from their servers. I asked to speak with the district mgr. Without ever seeing the damages, the asst DM in Chatham, NJ, Dasia (sp?) told me she doesn't believe the damages are bad, & she then directed me to vacate the unit in 14 days, without regard for the dangers of Hantavirus becoming airborne inside the 10' x 23' unit. My next course of action was to attempt to speak with someone at the corporate level about my concerns regarding the hazard/danger that their resolutions posed.
Over the course of several months, I made a total of 9 or 10 calls, with promises for a return in 48 hours. Those return calls from neither the District Manager Hilda, nor the Corporate Operations Coordinator - save for one call from DM HIlda who just left a message for me to call back (which I did, and she didn't return my return call) - never came. Instead, on September 7th, they foreclosed on the unit, and placed it under a lien. I called the corporate hotline on 9/18/23, about that aggressive decision. The reps said, verbatim, "You've spoken with a district manager & a Corporate Operations Coordinator. Their resolutions were unfavorable to you, so we are backing their decision, & won't escalate this matter." I never spoke to DM Hilda, nor the Corporate Operations Coordinator, and they are now demanding I pay them more $.

In my attempt to reach out to them via their website, I encountered no response. After an hour of waiting, I decided to contact the local branch office directly, only to be informed that their “corporate office sent out a postcard” as their sole form of notice to customers. Needless to say I vacated; only to have them take over the storage company I moved to (Life Storage). In the first month of the Extra Space takeover, my rent was increased by $70+ dollars! I am livid! But prepared to move again if I have to.

- Increases pricing with no facility improvements.
- Don't let the month to month sweet deal fool you because that's where they get you.
- Numerous attemps by unwelcomed individuals to break into the facility but no security or preventive actions done.
- No quick response after office hours.
The only thing they are ahead and good at is raising rent. Although they did not force me to rent a space in their facility it's just damn disappointing after I decided to store my property because I thought I got the best deal only to realize I got fooled in believing so. This place is not even a quality place and yet they claim it's the best, lures you in on a free first month which I did not receive and charges you so they put your name in the computer as a one time fee.. All the signs are there but why continue to rent. That's because in our desperate time in need to secure a storage this company made it seem it's the best place. This company uses the despicable practice (that should be illegal) of raising your rent every couple months, until you finally realize that you're paying 3-4 times what you were only a year or two ago. Meanwhile their stated prices on their website remain at your original price or even LOWER. They lure you in with an unrealistically low price, acting like it is their "retail" price, meanwhile there IS no retail price, there is simply "how high can we go before you cancel?" I don't recommend them at all, but if you do use them, make it a short use.

Was a bit shocked to find out that my account was $70 behind and that my stuff was already auctioned all in one text message. The part I'm accountable for is that I didn't update an expired card on my account but the part I feel they're accountable for is not communicating this information to me using all available contact info in my profile.
It was a cool text to get but I'm glad they at least got in contact with the one method in my account they never tried until they sold my stuff and the sensitive information within. I'm very vulnerable to identity theft now because of this. I understand as a business this is the best case scenario for them but it sucks because this was easily preventable if they'd successfully contacted me. It was only $70 and they sold things that were priceless to me and my family to the lowest bidder. Just be sure that you're proactive in your communication because they will do the bare minimum legally required of them to contact you as that would cost them the opportunity to sell your valuables and family heirlooms for even a minor delinquency.

They mail a post card out to let you know, which you get with less than a 30 day notice (if it doesn't get lost in the mail). They do not notify you by email at all for the price hikes or why they jump. You can get online & reserve the same size for $70, so not sure why it's more than doubled in the last year! Since Extra Space Storage took over the STORAGE ONE there are few break ins over 2 months of their company. My Rv trailer got ransacked two weeks ago and some guy unit. They stole almost everything my camping gears, life raft, life jackets, outdoor stuff, my Travel trailer all hook ups, my comforters, even toothbrush. To me there is no urgency with the manager on-site knowing that my Rv got ransacked, broke the whole dinette area to gain access inside from side compartment.
With all these things that was stolen there is no way they can hand carry everything. There should be a vehicle used, and that was supposed to be recorded through their surveillance cameras. I simply ask him if he see any suspicious activities in the camera and if he could find out who was the last vehicle recorded exiting the gate. But he is very unconcerned, not trying to help and other people that got break in into. He is super suspicious individual that could not will not give you any information and lack of involvement to the situation and careless.
I personally think that this manager that live onsite has something to do with all the break ins. There is no way these lowlife scumbags has an access to this gates storage. It’s an inside job. This storage company is a mess, it’s only been 2 months since they took over from Storage one and now every week there are break ins. Don’t use this company. UNETHICAL - Terrible Experience with Extra Space Storage in Corinth, TX after spending over $13,000 with them over several years, and NEVER being late on a payment. My sister and I have been a customer at Extra Space Storage for a staggering 7 years, and I cannot express the degree of how unethical they are. Over the course of my time there, I've paid a total exceeding $13,000 for their services, only to be met with the rudest goodbye ever. Not a thank you for being a customer for 7 years and giving us over $13,000, rather, "I’m sorry we didn’t see that you moved out yesterday and today was the deadline according to contract. Therefore we will still charge you for July."
Recently, I decided to move out and requested a prorated charge for the month of July since I moved out just three days after being billed. To my disbelief, Extra Space Storage refused to accommodate my request simply because they claimed they didn't witness me physically moving out. Today, it's June 27, and despite clearly expressing my intentions to vacate the storage unit, I am being billed for the entire month of July when I won't even be utilizing their services. This level of inflexibility and lack of customer understanding is simply unacceptable.
After being a loyal customer for such a lengthy period, I expected better treatment and basic fairness. Unfortunately, Extra Space Storage has proven that they prioritize their own profit over the satisfaction and loyalty of their customers. I strongly advise anyone considering using Extra Space Storage to think twice. Their policies and lack of willingness to address customer concerns make them an unreliable and unsatisfactory storage provider. Save yourself the frustration and financial burden, and seek out a company that values its customers and their needs.

Extra Space Storage in Reisterstown offers an attractive low monthly fee, which initially seems like a good deal. However, after a couple of years, the price skyrocketed from around $150 to almost $400, which feels like a bait-and-switch tactic. The storage unit I was in was infested with mice, which has caused significant damage to stored belongings. We were also not allowed to use the on-site dumpsters for small amounts of trash, which is an inconvenience.
I found the branch manager and his sidekick to be unprofessional and immature, which was shocking to witness. As a customer, one would expect a certain level of respect and decorum from the employees, but that was not the case. As an employer myself, I find such behavior appalling. Been a customer for 9 years. And over the years like others have mentioned the cost just kept going up, every 6 months. Although I was notified by mail 30 days in advance each time. But, what just happened this weekend is making me get my stuff out and never looking back. Went in on a Sunday to get some things out of my unit, only to find my lock was gone and one of theirs was in its place. Office not open on Sundays so had to wait until the next day. Called. Was told there was nothing in my file showing a new lock being put on, to come on in and they'll cut it off. Only after we get into my unit and see my cut lock sitting there, and my boxes opened did the manager tell me about the break-ins they had.
I was never notified my unit was broken into. Fortunately for me the only thing that looks like was taken was my foldable rolling cart. But, the fact that I was not notified that they had found my unit missing its lock and they put one on it is the most frustrating part. The only reason they still got 2 stars is the ease of use, and customer service when I've needed it (other than this issue) was really good.

We rented two indoor storage units for six months while moving to a new home. In the second month of our rental, we found raccoon paw prints on several boxes in the unit and reported it to the manager. At that time no damage apparent and we were told that Extra Space Storage would contact their pest control people to take care of the problem and thank us for letting them know. At the time of retrieving our items (four months later) we were notified by our moving company that several items in the rear of one 20-foot storage unit had been damaged by animal urine, feces, chewing & clawing. When the mover's delivered the damaged goods it was evident that animals had been living in our unit for some time due to the overwhelming number of bodily fluids and feces.
All items involved had to be discarded. We contacted Extra Space Storage, and they told us to file a claim. For two weeks I was given the wrong information to file a claim and then when I was finally able to file online, the insurance claim representative would not take our call. When we contacted Extra Space Storage, they told us our claim was being denied because of food in the unit. They provided a picture taken days after we left the unit with an empty small jar of decorating sugar. We told them we had no food of any kind in our unit. Our unit contained household items, some furniture and clothing. They are holding steadfast that they can deny the claim because of food in the unit.
Then the district manager told us to file a claim on our homeowner’s insurance (LOL). He also said that our claim would not be accepted by Extra Space Storage because damage items need to be reported at the facility and our pictures were taken at our new home when the moving company came. We wouldn't have a problem if Extra Space Storage had kept racoons from living on our stuff for months. Do not recommend and do not take the insurance offered, it's useless. We are confident we could win in small claims court, but the time and aggravation are not worth it at this time. They know we could win too. We also reported the insurance company to the state of NJ DOI. These are not little companies we are fighting. They are two corporations not taking responsibility for poor service.

Today 4/7/23 I called the customer service line where I spoke with an associate name Rosa was extremely rude and unprofessional. I asked the agent to send me information pertaining to the rate increases, because I had not received anything. I had no communications indicating that in addition to the rent increase, that the monthly insurance was increasing, or that there were changes to the late fee, which doubled, and changes to the grace period. I informed the agent that the only communication that I received stated that my monthly rate was increasing, nothing more.
Rosa went on to say that the rental agreement was sent out via postal mail and email. She stated that whether I signed the agreement or, by continuing to rent with them means I agreed to the new terms. I told her, nonetheless, I need to see this information in writing because I never received it. She went on to say that I probably misplaced and it’s really not her problem if I didn’t receive it. When I told her that I was done speaking with her because she was rude, she continued on with her behavior, she even laughed when I told her she could get me a manager because I had nothing further to discuss with her.
If this is how Extra Space Storage treats their customers, I am happy to part ways. As a paying customer, I can’t believe they have associates who behave this way. OK, they begged for reviews early. Begged. This is a bad sign. They do this so you review them before you experience their reprehensible business practices. Price increases are standard in this industry but THIS PLACE IS THE WORST I've seen in the last 10 years using many different storage companies in the Chicagoland area. At three months in, they sent me a note saying they were adjusting my rate up 87%. Normally 10-15% in this industry a year is isn't out of the ordinary. 87% is gouging their customers.
When presented with this and asking how one could justify this, they do the OLYMPIC back peddle and cut it instantly it to 42% increase. So, if you are a sucker or you don't know and understand the storage industry tricks people will get scammed into paying these extortion increases. They then proceeded to tell me that they would be adjusting it again in a few months and again at a year. This is just basically the old bait and switch. Teaser rates then once you move your stuff they figure you won't move it out again. Don't be sucked in by this company, shop around. There are plenty of much more reasonable storage companies who will raise your rates well above the rate of inflation and they will NEVER make any improvements to your facility or services but they will at least keep increases to 10-20%. Hello Extra Space Storage, I am sure this post will be falling on deaf ears. However, I want to reach out to you because I am broken hearted about a situation and very concerned and frustrated with the business practices that I experienced with **, the manager at the Extra Space Storage where I store my trailer at 1051 Stephanie Place in Henderson, NV. I received a call earlier this afternoon stating that my trailer looked like it had been "tampered with". Upon inspecting my trailer, the generator battery had been stolen from my unit. I was rightfully frustrated. I am a public school special education teacher here in Las Vegas and have worked very hard to obtain my trailer. It was a dream of mine. I looked and looked for a place to store it and was told that it would be safe within your company's facility. Boy was that a LIE!
Also, **, the manager, has ZERO compassion or understanding for the frustration that I and multiple other tenants felt about our stuff being stolen and vandalized. I asked if he had phoned the police to which I was told it was not "his stuff that was stolen". However, it was HIS BUSINESS that he is managing. So it IS his problem. I pay rent every month to have my stuff at least looked out for. He just sat behind his computer and would not let me finish my sentence. What a TERRIBLE manager. He also stated that there was a security guard on duty and that he would not release the footage or even assist with anything that had happened. He is just SO RUDE!!!
Anyways, I just wanted to reach out to you as I am in tears right now over the new battery that I will have to buy and the new storage facility that I now have to work on finding. I do not have the time or resources for this. I am also going to be ensuring that EVERYONE I know understands how your company treats its customers. I would NEVER want anyone I know to be treated this way. As a large company though, I know you probably will not care either...What is one peon customer? Brittany **

This people are SHARKS. In the last 12 months extra space storage in Lawrenceville GA, has increased my rent first from $230 to $ 320 on Feb 2022. Then now in December 2022 they increased another $ 80.00 USD to $ 400. DON'T Rent from this company. I have been with them since 2015. I will remove my items soon, even if it means doing it in the middle of the cold winter in January.

This place uses unacceptable business practices by luring customers with low initial rate and then raises rate at their whim without any notification. My messages are ignored completely and I cannot get in touch with anyone to discuss rate increase that almost doubled since I moved my personal belongings there. This sounds more like a scam operation than a legitimate business. They keep charging my credit card and yet totally ignore me as a paying customer. Beware of this place! There are better options out there, but I am overseas and unable to address their abhorrent business practice at the moment.

Within a few months of moving into the storage unit, I received a price increase. There were more increases prior to my ending my lease. I moved out only to be told the unit would be cleaned and opened back up for rental to another customer even though I would not receive a refund for the 3 weeks I prepaid for the unit. I said I would close it back up until the end of the period I paid for and was told 'that's not how it works'. I said they had two options - refund me for the period of time I would not be allowed to occupy the unit even though I had paid for it or not put another renter in that unit. It was ridiculous. On multiple occasions, I was unable to access my property due to faulty access equipment. I did not receive any courtesy adjustment, just apologies. It has been a highly disappointing experience.
