I went to the 134s 700w in SLC Utah. The girl working there at 12 noon on December 27. Was the most rude arrogant, dishonest and confrontational person I have ever encountered Short changed me $10 and put it in her pocket and denied it. Never go to that location unless you want to be offended and wait on a terrible employee to help you when the feel like they are ready. And finished with personal time. Never again!!

Laurie ** at the Edgewater NJ facility was absolutely HORRIBLE; I never any correspondence. Any Leases or policies. Also, the text messages does send monthly. Not to mention, Joan stated the Auction is scheduled on December 5, 2024 then revised to January 5, 2025. However, luckily I called another facility in New Jersey seeking the District Manager's contact information; whereby Christian informed me the Auction is actually scheduled for January 3, 2025; I would have been 2 days too late! Laurie & Joan does whatever they want to do; they notate the account according to cover themselves.
Just minutes ago after my candid conversation with Laurie at 9:00am this morning stating I never received any copies or a LEASE to neither units NOR any type of instructions to download the app, my email address has been incorrect since March 2024; they simply charge your account with unknown fees they want they wish. This is UNLAWFUL, any customer holds the RIGHT to know the amount being charged.
They give misinformation; but now trying to cover their poor actions; particularly Laurie not so much Joan! Laurie is unethical and will make you lose your belongings. I have now filed an official complaint with NJ State Attorney General's Office & BBB - Better Business Bureau! I seek severe disciplinary actions against her!

I have been renting a storage unit here for about a year. They take the money directly out of my account and last month I noticed they took twice the amount. Came to find out they changed my rates without telling me and we’re just going to start taking a much larger sum. I told him I was moving and would pay for the month prorated. They proceeded to lock me out of my unit without telling me. I have no late payments, and that includes this month, yet they think they should be able to lock me out of my unit because I will NEVER do business with them again. How is this not that? And extortion? Stay the heck away from this business. They have treated me terribly..

Terrible business practices and even worse customer service. I am stuck, to move my stuff is super expensive so I need to stay there. I have to imagine this is how they want everyone to feel. Awesome business model for 2 Mormon guys who cashed in and now are fleecing people nationwide.

Similar to other reviews, this company completely scams customers. I stored my items with them for an agreed upon rate, after three months I noticed that I was being charged more than $100 more than what I had been. I called to understand the price change, and they told me that they had mailed a notice that there would be a price increase. Because I had moved, I didn't receive that notice and they didn't email it despite having my email on file. They take advantage of the chaotic nature of moving by sending things via mail when they can easily email, they know that once people have put all their stuff in their units, they're less likely to come back and move it all after the price change and it's predatory. Don't store with them unless you're only going to for three months.

I've been struggling with a rough move. After 3 month of having my items in storage I got a letter in the mail almost doubling my original price. Anybody who has moved knows money's tight in the transition! I went to the storage unit location and expressed my issues and concerns to Trish. And she was a blessing! So sweet and understand. Instead of raising my fee by 55$ she pushed a movement to only raise it 10$, and her management agreed and approved it! I appreciate their understanding so much in these hard time. Again, thank you Trish!!

I booked a 10X10 unit on-line. A gentleman called me. He set everything up. Promised me my price would never change from 52 dollars a monthly. Even paid a couple of months ahead. I ended up going to jail on a charge I did not commit. Sent 2 months. My son was said he paid my storage. Everything was fine. I get out to being 2 months behind so I get caught up. I make the payment because EVERYTHING I OWN is sitting in this storage unit. They said I owe 398. I didn't think nothing of it because of late fees so I got the money together and take it up there because I needed clothes to change into so I pay them 398 just so Ashley lady in the office to look me in the eye and say, "You still owe 292 dollars." I said, "Excuse me?" She says, "Yeah it went into auction mode..."
I thought after the 3rd month it goes in auction mode so by this time I'm thinking 52 dollars a month, only behind 2 months is now costing me almost 6 hundred dollars. I needed someone anyone to help me make sense of what this lady was doing to me so I called the corporate and was asking questions that no one could answer so they said the district manager will call me in 48 hour after the weekend. Well I get the 3 hundred, take it down, I am able to get in. Well a couple of months goes by my son calls me, ask me for the combination. I say no. I don't trust my son. He goes to the front office which it's only my name on the lease and Ashley grinds my lock off for my son so I come, no locks. I open my unit. It's a whole mess.
I call the office. I said, "Hi Ashley. This is Terri **, unit **. Can you check the cameras because my unit was broke into?" She said, "Do you know what time this may have happened?" Now at same time I'm messaging my son threatening to call sheriff for breaking and entering. He sends me a pic of Ashley lady works in the office grinding my lock off of my unit for my son. He literally took EVERYTHING THAT MEANT ANYTHING TO ME OR HAD VALUE because I buy and sell stuff and I collect unique things. Well I ended up getting stuck there until someone could bring me a lock but the next day I called Ashley and asked why she never returned my call. She said she didn't see anything on video about who broke in my unit so yet again I call the corporate office, make a complaint. They say, "The district manager will call you in 48 hours," so I wait.
I continue going through making an inventory on EVERYTHING I notice is missing. Well where my unit sits the sun beams in on me. I am allergic to the sun so I lower my door and the lady up front that works with Ashley comes yelling at me for my door being down and I'm not allowed hanging out in the unit. I said lady right now I would not be coming at me sideways. I explained what happened. She said, "Oh you need a lock?" I said, "Out of everything I just said you only heard the lock part." So I get back on the phone and call the corporate office and let them know why I'm there, why I have the door lowered and ask why I haven't heard from the district manager.
A week goes by and Ashley calls me and says, "We are not renewing your lease. You were on the premises after hours. We have you on camera." I said, "You damn right. It was you cut my lock. I had no way to lock my unit so I sat until someone was able to bring me a lock," so I am no longer there, got robbed and still have not been able to speak to anyone. Worse experience I have ever. Never again will I rent from Extra Space or Life Storage. Same company. If you are reading this take your business anywhere else but here.

Every month I receive a text message reminder to pay the rent on my unit. This month I received the reminder notice, and what they DIDN’T MENTION was they raised my monthly rate by $50. I am now paying $80 a month more than what they advertise the rate to be on their website. I have called seeking an explanation, and no one has called me back. My unit is **. Is this what they call bait and switch? I find it unethical to raise a monthly rate by 35% plus without notice or explanation. Especially, when you advertise on the internet for $80 a month less.

I was very pleased with the facility and customer service at first. That quickly changed, here in Ocala Florida. The rate escalated from $138 for a 10x10 unit, to $209 with no notice, after just 4 months. That's a $71 jump! Unacceptable. There's no way to reach anyone by phone other than the flunkie at the front desk, who sleeps for much of their day shift (!), and no way to resolve any disputes, getting the runaround a whole lot of word salad, with no refund or remedy. On top of the increase, the facility's front gate has been inoperable in the open position for more than a week, with interior doors off their hinges, and climate control spotty. I can understand the need for a small increase from time to time, but 60% after only 4 months is insanity, especially for a facility that's not gated. Do your homework!

I strongly advise anyone considering renting at Extra Space Storage in Doraville to think twice. My experience with this facility has been incredibly frustrating due to their arbitrary rate increases and lack of transparency. When we first rented our unit, there was no indication—either on their website or during the leasing process—that the rates would change after only a couple of months. Yet, in under 6 months, our rent was increased by nearly $100, with no prior notice. In fact we only found out when we received a postcard on October 27th, that told us our rate was increased on October 3rd. When we called the store manager they stated that their system said it was mailed out in prior to the increase, and they have tracking saying something was delivered but could not provide us with that tracking information.
This seems to be a common practice at this location, as I’ve found numerous reviews from others who’ve experienced the same sudden rate hikes. What’s even more infuriating is that Extra Space is currently advertising units for $100 less than what we’re now paying, as long as you commit to a stay of four months or more. This bait-and-switch tactic is extremely unethical. When I called to discuss the issue, the assistant manager was not only unhelpful but also rude and condescending. She brushed off my concerns and simply said the site manager would call when they had time. This lack of professionalism, combined with their shady pricing tactics, has led us to make the decision to vacate our unit—incurring additional expenses in the process.
If you’re considering renting from Extra Space Storage, save yourself the headache and find a more reputable facility. Their deceptive pricing and poor customer service are not worth the hassle. This is beyond frustrating as me and my company have been loyal ExtraSpace customers for years, and to see this type of deception and service is not acceptable.

This company is a rip off. They gave us a rate over the phone, but didn’t tell us that it was “an introductory rate“. Nor did it say it in the contract. Within a few months we got a notice stating that our “introductory rate “had ended" and they were raising the rent - substantially. Of course we called and complained, and they knocked it down a bit, but within a matter of months, we got another rental increase. In just over a year the Storage rental rate went up by over $100 per month. We are out of state so we are pretty much hostages until we can get back to Arizona to make other arrangements for our stuff.

After nearly a year, extending every opportunity for Extra Space to do the right thing, like cooperate with my insurance company/refund money they took under contract to keep my belongings stored securely, I reluctantly write this unfavorable review as a direct result of deep disappointment. My storage unit with about $13,000 worth of belongings was burglarized in January 2024, using a method known by Extra Space to defeat Extra Space registration safeguards; The burglars are able to anonymously register for a unit, gain entry, and burglarize several adjacent rented storage units. Extra Space Storage is aware of this method and has been for some years and taken no measures to abate it.
The day after the burglary, Extra Space notified me that my unit was burglarized and I canceled the contract. Extra Space did not refund my money. Rather they cited the insurance - the insurance from them maxes out at $2000. My advice is not to take your belongings to Extra Space Storage, but if you do, do not store more than $2000 worth of your belongings.
Exacerbating the problem is Extra Space not cooperating with my renter's insurance company. It has been nearly a year, and Progressive is unable to get a return call to verify what was already paid out. You see, Progressive also doesn’t want to pay if Extra Space already paid to cover some items, so I am out the money spent to secure the belongings, I’m also out the money represented by the belongings that were stolen, and I am effectively out the money paid for insurance to offset such losses. All in all some $20,000 as a result of choosing Extra Space Storage.
Before writing this review, I gave them one more opportunity to make things right, but they simply pointed me to the insurance company they partner with, which maxes out payout at 2k. They have no intention of refunding the money, about 6k nor any part of those payments, which they wrongfully have kept under contract to keep my belongings secure. Worse, Extra Space demonstrates an unwillingness to cooperate with my insurance company, so that I could be made whole following their negligence. I recommend against choosing this company to store your belongings.

At these units, everyone works remote so you can’t physically see somebody you have to talk to a computer and then someone comes on the screen. This has to be the worst Storage company ever two years ago during hurricane Ian I waited two weeks before I was allowed to go in all my stuff was ruined well over $10,000 and I ended up getting 2000. Do not believe their website about surveillance cameras (all else they have listed to give you peace of mind is a lie) as they are only outside and front entrance AND THEY WILL NOT REVIEW or help you in anyway!!! They have been a huge hassle from the very beginning when I gave a deposit for a 10x40 and arrived with moving company to find it was no longer available so had to try and fit all into a 10x20. Not enough space so had to pay movers additional $1,200 to haul big items from Lynnwood to Smokey Point and unload.
Found out six months later when saw the increase on my bank account that “Wendy” entered wrong address and birthdate into their system. After fixed still no notice by mail or email that they were raising my rent which happened 4x. I was completely shook when Rose finally got around to opening my locker yesterday day which was completely ransacked and devastated over what stolen! Rose acted like she could care less and not her problem. The insurance company deny any claim where the lock is not broken but if the top of every unit is open and all you need is a ladder why wouldn’t Extra Space Storage place strategic cameras in hallways that capture these things??? Don’t forget unexplained price hikes for no reason or warning. I'M shocked that the district attorney office has not stepped in because this is a high class theft ring as far as I’m concerned.
The insurance companies are in on it as well. The site manager asks so many personal questions when I signed up and then busted my unit 3 times while I was moving in mind you I'm on the 6th floor and then stood in front of my unit making small talk. I would not recommend using this business to store any belongings. My unit, as well as many others were broken into 9/11/24. The culprits broke into a side fire escape door to access the facility. No response from fire, or police as far as I know on this break in. After talking to multiple customers today, this has been an ongoing problem with countless burglaries.
The insurance company has stated that the company was supposed to call and ask us if we wanted to take photos before they even touch the door to close it. We were not notified until several hours after they had closed the door. Same for every other unit that was broken into. My count was over 10 units. They had time to climb over the doors, unscrew the bolts to our locks, and pick the most expensive items from each unit at leisure.
This is not isolated. has happened consistently according to Officer Kent of the Federal Way police department. She stated "they never share the footage with us, and management isn't helpful." Footage of other facilities under Extra Space in Covington was shared with us and shows two trucks loaded to the brim. No added security measures.
I was told from I believe to be the manager that there are three entrances only. Main door which is key coded, and two fire doors. They told me the fire door was breached. When asked if there was a response from police, or fire, I was told "I won't tell you that." I believe this is an inside job, and every family I spoke to (some burglarized multiple times since January 2024,) believe this to be true. If anyone has not claimed insurance, or done a police report, I recommend doing this, as the insurance agency has the best lawyers known to man.
Long story short, if you value what you worked hard for, do not expect this company to actually care about its well-being. They have known about this problem consistently, and have added no extra measures whatsoever to stop it.

But in reality, she has no clue and she tries to gaslight and manipulate with threats of being locked out of your unit in 48hrs because. The only problem is I’m paid up and waiting in the claim adjuster to let me know what’s next. She lied about trying to reach unit owners about the possible damage. But there’s no evidence of this because I was never called.
The only reason I know of the damage is because I happened to go to my unit while it was being damaged by the leak and I have video footage. I'm sure if I didn’t get this footage and moved out with the damage the company would have not allowed a claim for at fault damage. This place needs better maintenance and management training. This is very inconvenient for me considering I still have to pay for storage and more help to try to salvage anything I can. I would like to understand how this is possible when currently there is a 10X10 storage unit available and priced at $189 for rent as of July 29, 2024 on their website.
Extra Space Storage needs to stop price gouging as this is unfair to the consumer in this economy today. Now I have to move my items from the storage unit because I am not in agreement with this unaffordable price increase. Extra Space Storage will inflate their prices and pass it on to the consumers in less than a year of renting a storage unit. This type of greed needs to stop with this company. I started paying $26.00 then within a month $38.00 and now $46.00 for a 5X5 unit and I have only had the unit 4 months. I suppose when there are too many empty units they make their money by raising your rent. Needless to say since they do state that the rent can increase without notice you have no recourse, when they take advantage and increase it as often as they deem necessary. Whether for operation purposes or for greed it is still misleading and problematic.. By the time they have raised your rent 3 or four times and you decide to leave, they have already made more money than you expected them to make from your rental.
I also felt a bit misled when I was told I needed to pay $19.00 for one of their locks and then when I went to fill my unit I notice more units had regular key locks. There were more units using key locks that were probably no more than $6 dollars from Walmart; than there was the Extra Storage $19.00 lock. This all began when I noticed several items missing out of my storage in April and filed a theft claim as a result of it. Fast forward from that in the interim, there was a rate increase and a dispute filed with my bank for that reason for one payment. I was thrown immediately into a "foreclosure" situation with this storage with all kinds of fees etc to the tune of over $600 to clear it up and keep them from auctioning my items off. Mind you NONE of this I was put on any notice for. On May 24 2024 I made an online payment was made to clear the balance for $614.80 that I did NOT owe to Extra Space Storage. I disputed a payment due to not getting any notice of a payment increase and this company consistently raises the cost of the rent for the same unit every 3-4 months like clockwork. I've been storing with them over 2 years so that's quite a bit at that rate.
Either way this company charged me exuberant late fees and foreclosure fees once that payment charged back and did not even bother to respond to the bank so that they could use that opportunity to steal the remaining items from my storage. On May 24 2024 spoke with Rebecca at 2pm and let her know that I was making the payment online but I do not agree with that and as a consumer I have the right to contest any purchase if It's not justified and they cannot provide me any documentation or information to support what gives them the right to place these charges on my account without notice.
The representative told me the manager (Rachel) was not in which I asked for her first. The next day at 11 am on 5/25/2024 Rebecca voluntarily went back onto my account UNAUTHORIZED and reversed my payment made THE PREVIOUS day throwing me into even further delinquency and causing my amount due to rise above $800. I have proof that after I paid the $614.80 my account was reflecting due again on 6/17/24. I have screen shots of everything. Now it stating due 4/17/24 and the way I found out was just happened to check because I know how shady this company is. All of this is in retaliation for a theft claim that I filed on my unit through my insurance because I'm missing several valuables out of my unit and I know that theft was an inside job.
I filed a police report and went through the full process which they are currently actively investigating this further. I know it was an inside job. Someone who is not even a member of management going back onto my account to single me out the next day for something you have NO control over. You reversed an ONLINE payment. It doesn't get more blatant than that and the racism and discrimination is so transparent. I can't prove it yet but I'm working on that with outside forces. It's so convenient that this never happened until I had a claim on the unit. This is blatant discrimination and customer abuse and I won't accept it. By reversing that payment Rebecca overstepped her boundaries out of pure hate and something permanent and legal needs to be done about that.
Now the price to keep my storage has went to over $800 throwing me in a financial hardship that I would not otherwise be in and that's the reason I'm filing this formal complaint and in 60 days a full lawsuit will activate against Extra Space Storage for these kinds of malicious and Deceptive Trade Practices they have been exercising. If this is happeneing to me there's no telling how many other customers this is happening to of color for sure. This is not right and if management is not willing to do something about it- which they clearly are not, I will not let up on this matter until this company is held legally responsible to the full extent the law allows for the undue financial hardship and mental anguish I have been through as a result of this. Not to mention trying to prevent me from exercising my rights as a US Consumer. That's egregious.
I have always paid my account online and with a debit card, and for some reason this time it was a problem. Once again an unspoken one because she never removed the lock off my storage after I paid on 5/24/2024 and did not want me to have a papertrail of the payment to prove exactly what I'm standing to prove with this lawsuit. Now she has restricted my access online to make payments. That's a pure attempt to get into my storage and force me out because they know I have valuable items in there and an obvious attempt to steal some more. I want to get my stuff out of this storage and never do business with these con artists again and I'm letting the entire world know about this traumatic experience because nobody deserves this that's spending their hard-earned money with ANY company.

When I spoke with the local manager, Scott, he mentioned it was a promotional rate, something they failed to disclose upfront, and it's not mentioned in the contract. Original Review: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I signed up with an internet special. After 3 months they more than doubled my rate, telling me there is fine print in the contract that allows them to raise rent at their discretion. They simply have to send you a 30 day notice that they are raising it. They do this taking advantage of the fact all your stuff is moved in and you are forced to deal with rate hike. Super shady tactic. The sales rep Scott should have at minimum been required to mention this, especially since it is such an extreme price increase. However, I had to pay a small fee of 61.09 so RIGHT THERE that sets off red flags. The price was for my storage lock and a down payment.
My intuition was nudging me not to do it but I had no choice. So the lady told me that after a month “free” I’ll have to pay 225.00 monthly just for my unit payment to sky rocket to 800.00. Okay, I pay it because I was being threatened that they’ll auction my items. Thereafter, AGAIN my payments recently go up a notch more and this time it was 987.00 which is a one bedroom apartment rent payment. Received a 30-day notice (which is referenced in the contract), but it is completely misleading to give customers a rate that is "not specified as promotional" - only to defend the raise by saying it was "promotional". This is the definition of "false advertisement / bait & switch"... give customers the full information "upfront" so that we can make an informed decision about your facility... BUT, I'm sure if they told everyone upfront that the pricing was / is promotional that would hurt sales.

Like many others, just 4 months after moving into a unit they raised the monthly rental fees almost 50%. Nowhere does it state the price you agreed upon is temporary or limited time however it does not state your pricing is guaranteed for any certain term but raising almost 50% (in my case, $240 up to $340) per month is entrapment. The time, effort and resources needed to relocate would make most people accept it...basically extortion.

She actually convinced me to rent an additional unit which worked out well. However, I inadvertently overheard the district manager, Hilda, talking down and treating the staff like absolute garbage. I tried to complain to the corporate office but was treated like my concerns don’t matter.
Also, I’d like to mention that another manager that was at the Fairfield site one day, Tatiana, took my phone and left herself a 5-star review for her site which I’ve never even have been to. The same manager cut the lock on my unit, forcing me to buy another lock. It appears this company shuns the good employees and praises the ones who are sneaky. I’ve requested a corporate representative contact me and I’ve received nothing. I’m losing patience and considering filing a police report for the phone incident if it’s not resolved very soon.

I've had my unit here in Fl since 2021. Same price. Extra Space bought out the local place & we have just started month 4. I have had 2 rate increases, along with an insurance doubling. They respond "the rates are for maintenance & upkeep of the properties" ~~~ Funny, the buildings still have dirt & vines on them, are overgrown.
A Local Business can keep the rates down for 4 years, & Extra Space raises rates twice within a few months. DO NOT RENT from this Extra Space Storage location (or any for that matter). The units on the third floor of this facility, as well as the facility itself, are not secure and can easily be accessed by burglars without even having to break in. The "secure" front door entrance can be accessed without a code simply by shoving a thin stick between the sliding doors to trigger the motion sensor that opens the doors from the inside.
On the third floor of the facility, every unit has a ~four foot gap between the top of their unit and the ceiling, which is covered only by three thin metal cross bars that do not in any way prevent someone from entering your unit. All they need is a ladder. I have photo evidence of numerous other third-floor units with obvious signs of forced entry, have filed a police report, have connected with an attorney if Extra Space continues to refuse to pay me for losses, and will continue to climb the chain of command at Extra Space Storage until they do. The worst part of this entire deal: Extra Space Storage has known for a long time that their facility is insecure and that people's units are being broken into. They have done absolutely nothing about it.
They didn't notify renters on the third floor that their items may be in jeopardy or were already taken, they didn't add any security measures to secure the individual units on the third floor, and they didn't do anything to prevent illegal entrance through the front door of the building despite having ample video evidence of this occurring. The facility manager told me that she knows this has been happening and has implored corporate to allow their facility to expand employee hours to have more on-site presence, to hire additional security personnel, to upgrade the process for entrance into the building and onto the elevator, and to place additional bars across the open area atop the third floor storage units to prevent someone from being able to enter them with a ladder.
Corporate's response to everything? "No, it isn't in your budget and we are not willing to pay anything additional to cut into our profit margins, regardless of security issues." Extra Space Storage is guilty of gross negligence as they knowingly allowed their building and their renters' property to be accessed and burglarized without notifying anyone or doing a single thing about it. The only service that Extra Space Storage offers is to securely store your property for you in their facility, and they have utterly and disgracefully failed to do so, and they know it but refuse to do the right thing to remedy the situation.
To Extra Space Storage, pay me the money you owe me to reimburse me for items lost and for the rent I paid to you to secure my property. You did not perform the single function that you claim to offer and that I paid you to perform. Myself, along with many other renters, deserve compensation given your gross negligence and the liability you assume by operating your business as you have. Worst experience ever!!! They are scamming people and betting on the inconvenience of you moving your stuff out. On your 3rd month you will receive a notice stating- "Due to the current market we will be raising your monthly rent by $100 on the 5th. Month!!!" And the only thing you can do is either pay the extra $100 or pay to relocate to another storage company!!!

I've been renting from this place (now called Extra Space Storage - as they acquired Life Storage. They are essentially the same company). They have literally raised my rent several times over the past few years so that I'm now being charged over twice as much for my 5X9 small unit. If you go online to Life Storage for the exact same location, they're offering my same space size (or much bigger) for a fraction of what I'm now paying. AVOID THIS PLACE!

They advertise one price then a month free then as you sign up they want to add $11 extra for insurance etc. Late and my total bill is $77 from what $45. If you're late the threatening calls start. Now there is an 8 dollar increase for a storage space the size of a closet. I'm contacting the BBC for sure!

This storage company is a BAIT & SWITCH. BEWARE!! If you sign up online it will give you an attractive rate for the first 3 months. Then month 4, they will increase the monthly rate to 50% more than the rate you signed up for. THEY DO NOT GIVE YOU NOTICE of this increase. They claim they mail a certified letter but I never got it. When I asked why they never called or emailed they said it was my fault I never got their certified letter of the increase. I canceled my contract with them on the spot and will be moving my stuff out next week. I am lucky I happen to be visiting the area I can't imagine what people would do If they already moved far out. This company is not honest and is making profits by tricking their customers. I would question if their tactics are even legal.
