I have had LegalShield for about 8 years. I have called them a handful of times. They never seem to be able to help with my issue. They cannot help with child custody. They cannot help with LLC (I do not have the right plan). They cannot help any of the 5 or less problems I have called about. Time to stop wasting $$.

Conflicting information regarding if we are fully covered or will get referred to an out of state attorney for a discounted fee. I'm disgusted because I was driving a company vehicle but on my way to the airport coming home. It's a personal ticket on my commercial driver's license. Initially they said I am fully covered then when they finally contacted me again they said I'm not covered because I was at work.

We have used their referral system before and paid for time with an attorney, but simple stuff like this shouldn't be this hard to cover. Not to mention that there are only a few more days to get this resolved. I want to fight the ticket but this process is cutting it close to the line and the cost of the ticket is less than the attorney will charge but there are principles behind fighting it, plus my livelihood and insurance can be affected by just paying the ticket instead of dealing with LegalShield's shenanigans.

LegalShield is a highly effective scam that like most pseudo coverages proposes to provide protection against life issues, in this case legal issues. I've had traffic infractions that required defense and a recent civil suit. The issues are always non covered and a fee or referral required at a so called reduced rate. I had memberships since the late 90's when it was Prepaid Legal. Later it became universally known as LegalShield. It used to $16.95 per month, I believe it is now $24.95. You can use Avvo.com to ask a legal question and have various attorneys weigh-in and answer your question for free. You will also receive referrals if necessary. Avvo.com just will not write a letter on your behalf.

LegalShield works best if you are using it to protect yourself against minor traffic infractions or have them write a letter as a scare tactic. Several times I have received errant advice from their attorneys. Right now, I have been sued based on faulty advice an attorney for the local provider firm provided and I acted on. I contacted corporate regarding the issue and they deferred the final say on the matter to the law firm that provided the faulty advice to begin with. Save your $275 annually.

A supervisor just called me and told me I was given incorrect information and they can reprint our wills. Unfortunately our first wills are still out there, somewhere, with our personal information in them which is unsettling. But I appreciate that they are reprinting the wills that I ordered from them in July.

    Original Review: Sept. 28, 2018

We mailed in our will questionnaires to have wills made back in JULY. It is now the end of September and we have yet to receive them. We canceled our membership to LegalShield last month and now they are saying we have to become members again in order for them to create the will for us... which should have been created in JULY. Total freaking scam to get us to rejoin.

When you join LegalShield you are assigned to a provider and do not have the option to change to another that better suits your needs. Most questions I asked were immediately met with, "that's not in your coverage, you can hire us for $200 hourly" despite the fact I had the best coverage they provided. They were courteous in their language, but condescending at the same time. My disability was exploited and along with my financial status, seemed to be a deciding factor in how I was given help or advice. As a result I wasn't given any help whatsoever. The one time they wrote a letter, they addressed issues they knew couldn't be taken care of in letter form thereby causing my situation to become far worse.

My concerns were met with a complete lack of interest and were never addressed. When I requested a refund for the months I was dismissed or asked to spend $200. They refused and only gave me a few dollars for the last month. I would not recommend using LegalShield if you want any real legal help. On a positive note LegalShield's customer service representatives were very kind and did what they could to help. But their policies, are not customer friendly.

Received a moving violation ticket outside of Houston, police didn't like that my insurance card was displayed digitally. Noted it on the ticket. Even though I have insurance on the vehicle and that portion of the ticket was already dismissed in court later, conveniently to Legal Shield Ross and Matthews refuse to defend their customer in this matter of a moving violation.

After months of conflict resolution, arguing, poor customer service, and rude representatives. Especially ill-mannered and rude head of the department at Ross and Matthews - Jeff **. It was made clear that company are not interested in defending their customers but instead interested in putting as little of effort as possible. Simple matter that could have been taken care of based on the benefits advertised. After paying them every month for services and they aren't willing to perform those as advertised for a simple traffic ticket, I wouldn't trust them with anything more complicated. Someone else said this would summarize well - "They will find a reason not to represent you."

I've been a member of Pre-Paid Legal since 1995, so I've got 23 years of experience with them. They used to be a lot better, but...this last issue has really showed how terrible it's gotten. I'll just copy and paste the actual letter I sent to the provider law firm over the issue. Here it goes... “I spoke with atty ** regarding this matter of writing a letter for me today. 1st of all I wanted to clarify something from the last communication that was sent to me via atty **. This was the 2nd draft...NOT the 3rd draft on this matter. So the opening in attorney ** last communication is wrong in regards to my personal matter.

"After talking to her a few times regarding this particular matter of mine, today is the 1st time the atty mentioned there would be a "conflict of interest" if I filed an Employee Relations Board (ERB) claim. And because of how long it's taken me to get any real help from this law firm, I went ahead and filed a complaint against my union via the ERB already. A complaint that your law firm never advised me of how and where to file.

"The prior letter atty ** had put together lacked any references to any rules, laws or regulations my union might have broken...and offered hardly any real guidance as to how I could get my union to start speaking to me again. Every time I spoke with atty **, the atty essentially would not listen to me nor the particulars of my case. And when I had important information that I needed to interject, or pointed out how she didn't even really address the crux of my issue...the atty got annoyed and the conversation would leave me with no real guidance or direction. The attorney's work product shows that clearly. The attorney's letter was essentially a plea to my union rather than pointing out the obvious violations they've committed already. A plea to a union that has already clearly demonstrated it's not wanting to do what it is charged to do, represent me in good faith.

"As a matter of fact, the 1st attorney your firm placed me with led me on a wild goose chase. The atty referred me to PERB (Public Employees Relations Board) which IS NOT the correct agency that oversees my employer. I was the one who had to do the research to find out it was the Employment Relations Board which oversees issues employees have with my employer or my union.

"How can an attorney not know how crucial it is to correctly word a document, since a single word can change the whole meaning of a document? In the attorney's 2nd draft to me, the atty wrote this sentence, "It allows the wrongdoer to continue making union members work of class," when it should have said, "It allows the wrongdoer to continue making union members work OUT of class". One word changes the whole meaning of the phrase, especially since my grievance was initially based on "working out of class" (among other things)...a very important distinction. When I asked the atty about this, the atty said "it was 7am when she wrote this...so that's why.

"I work as a heavy duty equipment mechanic for a living. If I told my employer that I forgot to tighten a bolt that held together a walkway on a piece of equipment, and someone fell as a result, how do you think they'd take that? Think the "it was 7am" excuse would work? I start work at 6am and I'm up at 3:30am every morning. When I get to work, I'm supposed to be ready to work full steam. Aside from that, I PAY for this service (PrePaid Legal). It's not something that's given to me for free. And I expect to have attorneys whom are knowledgeable with my legal issues that can give me clear, concise, knowledgeable answers and direction. And be able to CORRECTLY inform me of who/whom are the government agencies who oversee my particular issue, and can give me solid & accurate guidance as to what rules, laws or regulations my employer or union might have broken. All within a decent time frame.

"I think this issue is now ongoing for almost a month, trying to get someone from your law firm to give me good legal advice in a timely manner. Today, the law firm essentially told me to go pound sand. They sent a letter stating that they wouldn't give me any more help with the matter and that I've exhausted all of my benefits with them. Funny. They never even managed to complete the letter. And I got more information on my own than they ever provided to me. Please again...tell me what I'm paying for this service?"

Joined LegalShield about 2 weeks ago for a legal matter that has occurred in my life. Spoke briefly for a minute with an individual to send them documents. Called back to see if they had received it. I was scolded. Waited several days to get the legal paperwork stopping an issue I was having with my landlord. I was ignored for over two weeks by the law firm that works with LegalShield. Contacted LegalShield. They did nothing about the matter, finally they put me in touch after two weeks of original contact with an arrogant snot nosed attorney named Kenley ** who would not even allow me to answer a question or to explain my case or to answer anything.

I was told that I needed to shut up, that I was a petty person, and that I needed to revaluate my standing in life. He also tried to turn Tony Robbins and tried to tell me how to live my life and my moral constitution as a person. Then he just hung up when the clock hit 4:49 pm. Just like when they call you 5 minutes before 5 pm and claiming that they are closing the case because you are not returning their calls and yet as soon as you call them back guess what? They are closed, so you leave a message, then you try again the next day and leave a message with the secretary and they never return your call.

I have two friends who are attorneys. They just moved out of the state and are not able to practice here, luckily both of them inform me that I do have a legal right and that my case is not hogwash or petty. The amount of insults I have had one single individuals throw at me after paying a company to help me is unbelievable. Luckily I had people around me hearing this guy speak to me and comfort me that he is off his rocker and has some serious mental issues.

I contacted LegalShield for an issue that I was having with my landlord's management company, Meybohm Realtors. My air conditioner stopped working (June 3rd 2018) and it took them a week to replace it but when they finally did, it wasn't installed correctly and caused my electric bill to be extremely higher than normal. I contacted Meybohm almost daily complaining about the unit, that it wasn't working properly and after several weeks of enduring 90 plus degree weather, they (Meybohm) sent out a Rheem representative. The Rheem Representative stated that the unit was not installed correctly and there were several things that needed to be done over before the unit could cool properly. The unit was finally repaired properly on the 27th of June. During this entire time the unit was running constantly causing a rather large utility bill for myself.

I called LegalShield and was assigned a lawyer (to try and get my money back from this huge utility bill that I received) who at first was on it but after several miscommunications I was assigned to another lawyer. Fine, the new lawyer and I discussed the case and everything was moving forward. A couple of missed calls later, I was dropped again. This seems to be a trend for LegalShield, it's like they really don't want to take your case. I have called and had to wait several days before anyone called back but let them call you and you can't return the call right away, you get (dropped!) reassigned and have to start all over again! But they can accept the monthly payments with no problem at all.

Since it is an unused account and has the minimum $5 balance the bank charged me $32.50 to pay this fraudulent charge. I contact the company and my email address is not affiliated with any of their accounts. Obviously someone stole my identity and somehow got ahold of my account number which is an unused account. I have been a member of LegalShield for several years now. I called LegalShield in 2015 for the name of an attorney to represent me in a lawsuit against the owner of mobile home park that we live in. The park manager made me help her and her boyfriend trim a damn tree and I was injured trimming the tree. I did not want to help the park manager for several reasons one being the fact that she and her boyfriend had been drinking all day and continued to consume alcohol while we were working but I do not drink. Also the boyfriend had no clue how to trim a tree properly and he was cutting 20 to 25 foot branches off at the trunk of the tree instead of cutting them in smaller sections. I told them the tree was too big and they needed to call professional tree trimmers. I turned and started to walk away but the park manager grabbed my arm and threatened me so I was forced to help.

I was made to hold a nylon rope without gloves and I also did not have proper footwear on. I told the park manager needed gloves and better shoes but she would not let me go to my trailer and get the proper gear I needed to help her and her boyfriend trim the tree. I ended up with both of my feet broken. I called the main law group and was given the name of a law firm to use to sue the mobile home park's owner for my injuries.

The lawyer I used ended up throwing my case away basically. He decided not to tell the judge of Fulton County Ohio or the judges at the Appeals court that the two people who threatened me to force me to help them were drunk and continued to drink the whole time we were trimming this damn tree. He said it was not important neither was the fact that the Fulton County judge had been my father in law's divorce lawyer when he divorce my mother in law over 20 years ago and the attorney and my father in law did not part on good terms but my attorney said it was no issues that the judge kept moving my court date. The judge made me and the insurance company do the mediation thing which failed as we knew it would. The judge moved my court date again the same day the mediation failed. The attorney I was using kept telling me the judge was not bias though.

The park owner sold the trailer park right before the first meeting my lawyer had with the judge but again my lawyer did not do anything about it. So we ended up in the appeals court in Toledo Ohio and me and my husband sat in the courtroom and watched my attorney lose my case. If I had not known better I would have thought my attorney had never been in court in front of a judge before in his life. He did not act like an experienced attorney. He stammered and hesitated a lot. He did not have his paperwork in order. My lawyer did not use most of the information I gave him. He never questioned any of my witnesses or my husband. The only deposition that was taken was mine. Now the only thing left to do is go before the Supreme court and that costs $35,000 to $45,000 to do and I just do not have that kind of money.

My attorney also had us give the firm $2,500 to put into a trust for an expert witness but he took $900.00 of the money to get my medical records. I did not find out about it for quite some time afterwards. I called him and requested he return the money to us and that is when he told me what he had done. My case was very winnable had LegalShield referred me to a real attorney with ethics, a little skill and respect for the clients. I have a plate in my left foot and a screw in my right foot and one of my doctors had me on ** to stop smoking but she left me on ** for 8 months and I now have a pacemaker because the drug screwed up my heart.

Now I have to have the pacemaker for the rest of my life because my heart stops for short periods of time that were getting increasingly longer each time my heart stops. My heart stopped for 7 seconds then beat a few times then stopped for another 9 seconds which caused me to pass out and that is what caused the doctors to put in the pacemaker. But my attorney would not bring the heart issue up to the judges either. So basically LegalShield and their poor excuses for lawyers ruined my chance of EVER getting any kind of compensation for my injuries that have caused me so much pain and ruined my life. So I would never recommend LegalShield to anyone. This company has a great scam going on so PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THE LIES AND POOR EXCUSES FOR LAWYERS this company uses.

It is up to the attorney discretion to charge you on top of that and they never tell you this over the phone. So essentially an attorney is NOT going to do anything without getting paid in full so your little monthly fee is worthless. You are still going to pay a lot and think about it. The entire thing is a scam. Their contract protects them and no one reads this in detail so all of us stooges like myself find out later. Stay away! They will pay for this some day for lying to us.

I'm giving 2 stars because of the difficulty of cancelling. You have to call then they talk about all the benefits you'll lose and this and that when all you want to do is cancel. After 5-10 min of a rep trying to talk you out of cancelling you are transferred to an "automatic cancellation line" Which just tells you, they won't cancel without written consent. Which you can send in via email, fax, or mail. This is ridiculous. It's clear that this long and drawn out process is purposeful in an attempt and making you just simply give up and keep the service. You can't just cancel. It's impossible. And even after emailing, there is no automatic cancelling. You have to wait, meanwhile your card can still be charged.

LegalShield's cancellation policy is stated on our website as well as in the benefits contract that is sent to each member, clearly explaining a written notice is needed to properly cancel a plan. Upon calling in to request cancellation a member is explained what services they will be giving up, as many members are not aware of the many benefits they have available to them. Once LegalShield is notified of a member wanting to cancel, a billing hold is placed on the membership to provide enough time for a written notice to be received and then a membership will fully cancel once that written request is confirmed.

This company takes advantage of people who don’t have enough money to get by. I signed up to sell LegalShield because someone took advantage of my financial position, made me trust her, and led me to believe the service could “sell itself”. Before my first month was up I had reached out to my family, I had my parents reach out to friends, and I even went as far as to ask my friends if they’d share some info with their parents. They all said the same thing: that sounds unnecessary. And they’re right: this company has families buy into a service at about $50/month for 12 months a year. Unless you are constantly getting in trouble with the law, $600 yearly legal fees for NOTHING if you end up not needing an attorney is ABSURD.

With about 11 days left in what I THOUGHT was a 30 day trial in a $249 investment in “marketing services” the company offers associates, I contacted them about backing out. At this point, they informed me that there was only a 5 day trial for me to get any money back. I feel deceived, misled, and taken advantage of this company. Shame on them. Do not become an associate if you think you can make a dime by “just sharing info with friends and family!” (The truth is they want you to spend MORE to be certified to present & sell to small businesses). Scam artists at their finest, they know that associates like me do not have the time or money to file a class action lawsuit.

There is a 5-day refund policy which allows the new associate to review the information and if they determine this is not a business they would like to pursue, then it can be refunded in full. He asked for my credit card number to look up the charges, which he found, apparently someone I never heard of used my CC information to purchase services from LegalShield. I told the representative that I did not know this person. I did not authorize these charges. The rep told me to file a police report and call the bank, but they were going to charge my card anyway. I called my bank and cancelled the CC, and I'm disputing the charges. This all happen today, so I will see what happens. I would stay clear of this company, seems like a scam.

LegalShield assigned a law provider to us for a consultation for a tenant/landlord dispute. We vacated our four year rental home on the false pretenses that the landlady wanted to move in. She rented the property within two weeks of our departure. The greedy landlady also retained our $1200 security deposit. We left the house in pristine condition, had the premises move-out detailed cleaned by a team. We took 32 photos of every room and appliance to proved the condition. There were no damages or breakages. The case was handed to an attorney who mishandled the trial prep from the start and was subsequently fired after incompetent work and the complaints of multiple unhappy clients, What we were told "appeared to be a straightforward case,” we paid the $2300 represented as the fee for 10 hours work. We were led to believe that there would be no further charges.

We lost the case (however we prevailed meaning the Judge ruled in our favor but cut the refund). We were also granted all "reasonable" attorney's fees. And only received $86 from our security deposit after our LegalShield provider's attorney dismissed a vital witness (an realtor agent) who was subpoenaed and appeared in Broward County Court (FL) to provide testimony. Now there were a further three lawyers assigned to our 'simple' case who were in turn either fired or resigned. The Defendant hired an attorney even though we offered to surrender the complete deposit to her. This being the reason we sought help from LegalShield.

Now the assigned Law firm (not prepared to state the name for obvious reasons) is saying we owe a further $6900. This is simply "daylight robbery". This is unacceptable the creative. My wife and I are both Senior citizens who have never been sued and this fight of our security deposit to be rightfully returned is our very first lawsuit. We believe strongly to "do no harm" to anyone but feel the compulsion to seek legal assistance for Justice to prevail. Now we have been slammed by the LegalShield Law firm who has retained all of the downpayment and installments of our legal fees (they are saying this is to cover their "balance".) This is not right!!! We have been doubly wronged.

Please someone take action to have this situation rectified. We low income family struggling to make it from month to month, as are many other families out there. We would like to have someone please look into this matter and transmit this Consumer complaint to LegalShield. We have now discontinued our membership and only had only other minor matter involving a letter sent on our behalf to recover a check issued to us without funds. Thank you.

I am a LegalShield member, I greatly enjoy my membership, it is very helpful if you know how to utilize it. It's not a magical fix all overnight solution, which is what I'm assuming most people think when they purchased their memberships. It's not free, no lawyer is just going to represent you for nothing but it clearly states in the sign up process that members are guaranteed a 25% preferred member discount from the lawyers they're referred to, you still have to spend out of pocket money for legal representation.

However if you need letters written or documents reviewed, a living will or power of attorney those are free under the membership. Pre-existing legal matters like unpaid parking tickets, divorce, child custody etc. Pretty much anything that requires a lawyer to physically be present in court would fall under the 25% discount benefit. Though you will still be paying significantly for legal representation -as would anyone needing legal representation- you're paying less for any of these matters than you would be without the help of LegalShield.

I purchased my membership out of New York and I have to say in the 4 months I've had my LegalShield membership I've have gotten loads of significant advice from the law firm out of New York, and as a father being able to get my last will and testament done for free thanks to my membership as to where if I were to have one done up by some random lawyer it would cost me upward of 100s-1000s of dollars is just awesome! Having them write letters on your behalf to get collections agencies etc to stop harassing you, even more powerful. Get the membership, learn how to utilize it properly and I promise you won't be let down! Legal matters don't get better overnight and nobody is going to represent you for free other than public defenders or conflict defenders. LegalShield provides quality law firms and yes you are going to have to pay money but it's a lot less than what you'd pay without the membership! Be smart. Use your heads my dear people! :)

One of their associates apparently submitted an application for Legal Shield using my payment information. My debit card has been fully in my possession. I had never heard of this company before checking my bank statement this morning. Apparently I paid for some random man's account, a man's name I've never heard of before. I told them that this was NOT an authorized charge, provided a front side copy of my VISA debit card showing the card number was mine (not this strange man's), and a copy of my bank statement showing the charges. I was charged $99 for what I assume after researching, an account for him to sell Legal Shield. I've filed a police report, identity theft report, and my bank is investigating. LegalShield on the other hand is not cooperating. They want additional proof from me that the debit card is in fact mine. I'm not sure what more I can prove to them without further violating my own privacy.

I'm also not sure what I would gain from trying to have another person's card refunded. I also find it interesting how they are demanding so much from me to refund a service I never purchased, yet clearly didn't require any type of verification before charging my card. They will not confirm to me that the account opened using my payment information has been or will be closed. They refuse to provide any information on the application I paid for. I've also asked several times for them to provide information to the police and they will not do that either.

So now I am out $99 until my bank finishes their investigation. There is apparently an Associate of LegalShield who has my debit card information, and possibly more information of mine which is extremely concerning, and LegalShield won't confirm that this account is closed or that any action will be taken. They say to work in legal services, including identity theft protection, yet their Associates are opening accounts and registering as Legal Shield representatives by using stolen debit card information. LegalShield takes no responsibility for this, does not investigate further, does not contact authorities, and will not refund the fraudulent charges to the rightful debit card owner.

I stumbled on a site that lead me to a LegalShield salesman who swore to me that the purchase of a membership would result in the completion of everything I needed done without further cost. I let myself be talked into it but very soon found that the purchase of a membership only entitled me to a discount on the legal services of the company they referred me to. I immediately canceled my membership which they were willing to do but when it came to getting a refund of the membership fees, this proved to be an entirely different matter. They said I need to submit a request for a refund separately which I did but so far my request has been completely ignored. Don’t be fooled. This is a scam!

Updated on 03/03/2018: In response to my previous review on this site in which I report that although I cancelled my LegalShield membership less than 24 hours after having been talked into it through false claims being made, I still had not received a refund of my membership fees 3 weeks later. A LegalShield representative responded to my review by saying that members who cancel their memberships are entitled to a refund of their fees. However, a month has gone by now and I still have not received a refund and LegalShield does not respond to my emails. I will report here if, in fact, this does eventually have a good ending. In the meantime, I am still waiting.

Updated on 03/06/2018: I wrote 2 previous negative reviews about my experience with LegalShield and my difficulties in getting a refund but to be fair, I now want to report that although it took 6 weeks, they did refund my membership almost in full. Isn't that swell). I got no response. They just sent me an email letting me know it was cancelled. I followed up with another email 2 weeks later asking about the refund and got ignored. So I submitted a BBB complaint, yesterday I got a call from customer service regarding that complaint stating everything was cancelled and they would refund everything minus the $10 nonrefundable fee (scam fee) and obviously the $99 state fee since that wasn't paid to them, mind you I was ok with this. I didn't expect them to refund that stuff.

However, today I looked at my bank account and have been refunded $40 total so far and CHARGED another $20 that I DID NOT give permission for! I sent them another email that was this time immediately responded to stating everything was cancelled (though they did list the wrong date for cancellation) and the refund request would be reviewed. If they post this charge I'm reporting it as fraud because I have lots of written documentation stating they do not have permission to charge me and they are too incompetent to fix this.

Heard about Pre-Paid and now LegalShield for years - decades even. Always liked the idea of being able to ask legal questions without imposing on friends or friends of friends or posting on forums and getting people's experience but they aren't lawyers. Finally signed up recently (2017) when we had a small car accident. The staff there was very friendly, competent and talked about all the benefits - hours on top of hours for tax audits, wills, etc.

We had issues with the lawyer getting correct info into a letter they were going to write on our behalf. But the real 'catch' to this program is that they will give you hours of service, unlimited phone calls, unlimited incidents etc. But... 1 letter per incident. You pay for anything beyond that. Maybe you have something simple and 1 letter will do. But for a simple fender bender even, they did a courtesy 2nd letter when the other party sent back a letter. I could see this going back and forth in letters and costing more than it was worth. Cancelled LegalShield (which went smooth, in contrast to other's comments).

After talking with my brother about it, I found out he only practices 1 area of law in 1 state and unless I needed help with internet commerce law, he couldn't even help me. For under $20 and no contract, I figured I had nothing to lose.

Boy was I happy a few months later when a lady ran a stop sign and T-boned us. Both me and my wife ended up in the hospital with whiplash. Because all of our injuries were "soft tissue" in nature, there were no broken bones or lacerations to show pain and suffering. It took 3 months of chiropractic visits to finally recover. At that point the insurance company offered us $1500 for pain and suffering. After consulting with my law firm, they offered to represent me or simply walk me through what to say and do to get a fair settlement. I chose to just use their advice and counsel which resulted in a final settlement of $19,000. Thank God I had quick access to one of the best attorneys in the State. Since then, I have used this service dozens of times and can't imagine life without access to my Constitutional rights.

I've had Legal Shield for a short time, but have called them on numerous issues ranging from being denied 60 days for section 8 to advice on how to submit things to family court. During that time I've lived in two states. While in my original state I was often told to call the courthouse to find out the answers to my questions as every courthouse is different. In the new state they just didn't know what my rights were. The first lawyer googled it while we were on the phone to find out. While I was googling, I found information that said they have to give you 60 days by law, but she found something that said 6 months from the time you port. I called back to show I hadn't been given either, but the second lawyer wasn't aware of what the first had said, and also wasn't sure what my rights were.

I called again on a second issue with the family court and was just told there was nothing short of hiring a lawyer that could be done as I'd moved, but I wasn't told I wouldn't receive help for that state by Legal Shield before I moved. The three stars are because the lawyers were just so pleasant. I'm used to lawyers at Legal Aid hotline (not Legal Shield) yelling or being snide, or desperately calling lawyers, asking for pro bono doing the typical "how dare you?" attitude as lawyers insist on a $2,500 retainer just to start working with you, and asking for handouts is about as popular as begging for change outside a supermarket, even if in Michigan they are required to give a percentage of their time to pro bono work. In spite of only needing 20 dollars a month, at Legal Shield I was treated with dignity and respect every time I called. It was unreal how patient Legal Shield's lawyers were and how pleasant and very patient they were.

My sales representative, Angel, was also a darling man and I just wish the services had been able to help us. As for sales - I saw that someone said they were a pyramid scheme. Each old sales representative makes permanent money from the next. Each sales rep also pays $100 dollars down for a web service that will send emails and other things to your clients. I looked up why Avon and other pyramids weren't considered pyramid schemes and it turns out that if the product is sound, it can't be.

I wasn't able to see if ID Shield worked, as I wasn't on it long enough. I would have kept that part, just to see, if not for financial problems - which is why I looked into selling. I thought maybe if I sold it, I could afford to keep it. Also, it appears they honored my request for cancellation within 24 hours of my emailed (written) request, and was very happy.

I have been paying monthly fees for this service for almost a year when I finally needed to use the service. I was referred to their firm Bervar & Jones in Hawaii because the matter was related to a condo in Hawaii. The matter was extremely simple, it involved reimbursement of 2 AC repairs totaling $1017. Right from the beginning there seemed to be lack of interest in helping me. What the attorney was very good at was to mention 2-3 times in every conversation that I need to become “their client”. I thought I already was thru Legal Shield but obviously they didn’t see it that way. With the Legal Shield membership I am entitled to free phone consultation, review of 15 pages of documents, and a free letter to the opposing party (the Condo Board) in this case.

The attorney placed obstacles at every turn making it very frustrating and difficult. She insisted I send her the entire document called House Rules where AC repairs and responsibilities were addressed only in one paragraph. I told her that, yet she INSISTED on wasting 12 pages of my allowed free 15 pages by saying she must have the entire document. There were 6 other pages that were much more important and this now put me over the limit. The outrageous part is that when it came to the draft of the letter she put together, none of the important points contained in the documents she SUPPOSEDLY reviewed, were included.

Now to the quality of the letter. It was as if a sixth grader wrote it. It even had a spelling error, it was very vague and was not pointing out at all why we should be reimbursed for the AC repairs. The information contained in the documents was very strong in our favor, such as the Board admitting that they erroneously had owners believe that AC repairs and maintenance was their responsibility when in fact it was the Board’s. Also we had an email from the property manager (overseen by the Board) stating that we will be reimbursed upon submitting paid invoices, which of course we did. Yet the Legal Shield lawyer’s letter made no mention of any of this. I was so frustrated I told them I will write the letter (which I did). Essentially it was my letter that was sent. To get this short, uncomplicated letter out dragged on for 5 weeks.

This was primarily because of unnecessary and outright stupid delays on their part. Ultimately because of all the delays the letter missed an important Board meeting on September 26th which could have resolved the issue. The next Board meeting will not take place until end of November. I complained to my home office in NJ who actually referred me to the firm in Hawaii (it is how Legal Shield is set up). They contacted the Hawaii firm to tell them how unhappy I was with their service, actually lack thereof.

I could not believe when the NJ office representative called me to tell me that the Hawaii office is not interested in doing anything further regarding this matter because “they have gone above and beyond” what they should have. LAUGHABLE AND RIDICULOUS. They reviewed more than 15 pages unnecessarily because they insisted, yet they didn’t use any of the “supposed reviewed” info in their letter. So what was the point?? That attorney didn’t know two things about the matter even at the end. And ultimately it was MY LETTER that was sent because theirs was an embarrassment. Needless to say I stopped my membership and this RIDICULOUS WASTE OF MY MONEY AND MY TIME.

We sent this information to be reviewed by our quality department. After review, we offered/allowed benefits according to the contract. The firm needs the entire document to be reviewed to ensure they have all of the facts of the case. Also, the document review and letter sent is something that goes above and beyond the contract because it was business related. We've offered to have you referred to another firm but you declined.

Terrible company, terrible services. Just do a Google search for reviews. LegalShield is just a pyramid scheme where they earn commissions from other people trying to sell their services. People who have never even used them. They try to weasel their way out of absolutely everything with some loophole in your contract. When they actually do try to offer advice, it is from a cheap, inexperienced lawyer who knows nothing about what he is trying to advise.

Usually the best answer you will get is "I think" or simply "I don't know." You will not get any actually useful definitive legal advice that you can use. Usually they are downright rude and unresponsive. God forbid you actually have any serious legal issues, you're better off defending yourself. They can't answer simple yes/no type questions, and are rude when they try. Even their own employees give them bad reviews, calling it a lawyer mill, citing poor working conditions, bad wages, poor management, and extremely high turnover. Just search for the employee reviews from glassdoor dot com.

They will have their attorneys, that cannot be bothered otherwise, write very poor letters on your behalf (if you are lucky). My last 3 letters were never written and I was allegedly terminated by the company in March of this year. In the letters that were written on my behalf, one literally stated: "Mr. X (me) has informed us that you have committed malpractice. Accordingly we demand $35,000. Any payment or correspondence should be sent directly to him as Mr. X has not retained us."

And another indicated something the complete opposite. "Mr. X and his family have come down with food poisoning which they believe was contracted via your restaurant." (He failed to mention to contact me directly). The insurance adjuster for the restaurant attempted to contact him countless times, via email, phone, fax, letter yet he informed me that they had made no such attempts. This allowed the stature of limitations to lapse and no recovery to be made.

I was also sued and their defense hours are a complete joke. I was not given any hours because I "could not win". After hiring outside counsel, I won but LegalShield refuses to reimburse me. These are just a few of the problems I encountered having paid LegalShield for many years. Also note that their prepaid legal name was so severely soiled that they changed it to LegalShield in a muddled attempt at a fresh start. Same terrible company, different name. A great alternative, ARAG Legal (Google it) is actually assisting me in suing LegalShield now. I just have to pay the $250 deductible and hope that they can get around LegalShield 's forced arbitration clause. Good luck.

In the past this service was fantastic! In the last 2.5 years, it has turned to **! That's some ego you have TIM! I am sure he is burnt out and he needs to retire from the law! I know others have a similar encounter with him. I am not the only one who has made a report on this angry, disrespectful male. Another has shouted at me too but he was very good in the past. I will not mention his name. The reason for the 2 stars is that this service use to be top notch. It has significantly declined. I would not recommend this to people in the B.C Canada area.

It was so bad I dreaded calling with an on-going issue. I finally call head office to tell them my concerns and I get Tim to handle my issue who was told I made a formal complaint who then wants to rehash my past issues. He seemed pissed that I complained to head office. I could go on to write the whole story about this horrible experience with him but I don't have this kind of time.

Once again I call head office to say what happened AGAIN. I ask for some kind of compensation for the last 2 years of this ongoing issues and how awful it is to have to call this Vancouver office. This woman at the head office said she would look into my file and call me back. That was 3+ weeks ago. I asked to be able to speak with a lawyer in my city to help me once and for all with this very old case that will not go away without legal assistance in doing things properly. We use to get respect when we called for help. I am sure that office has about 50% of its lawyers either with a huge ego or they are simply burnt out. TIM says there is no one else I can talk to. He is the only one left. Not going to quit TIM! I have paid for this service and I want the help that was promised with my membership. You all need to STOP YELLING AT US!!!

I still don't want to call there. I wonder if they are hoping I will just quit! I would be willing to pack up and go with another firm if I can have the last 3 years of paying back as I have nothing but a bad taste in my mouth every time I want to call there. The nicest person there is the one who answers the phone. My payment is pre-authorized so I don't know how to show a receipt. The business relationship is one where I pay and get nothing back.

I called LegalShield to take care of my speeding ticket - but all I was given was advice on getting an attorney at a discounted price to take my tickets to court. I was told that LS takes care of traffic tickets - and the reason they gave me was "because I got a ticket for the radar" along with the speeding ticket - so they would not take care of the ticket. I'm confused; I've had LS for many years and only have used them twice - one would think they would help me with my issue - if it is a fact that LS does take care of traffic tickets (confused on to keep / or get rid of LS). By the way, under normal circumstances, I give LS a 5 star rating - but not for this issue...

I literally knew my rights and the law better than Legal Shield. I felt pressured into signing up, but I figured they were hungry and this would help get my issues resolved. I paid the $29.99 fee and scanned all my documents. The woman on the phone (Trina?) told me a few days later that she had only reviewed 15 and that's all she's obligated to review. Then after trying to talk me out of suing for clear documented violations of my civil rights she referred me to a lawyer who will charge me thousands but I get a sweet Legal Shield 25% discount.

I'm paying them for nothing. They were supposed to provide a lawyer. I was expecting a few referrals, because my case is complicated, but has clear evidence of numerous violations against hospitals and government agencies. They don't do class action, and I'm trying hard to find anything I did get from them. My life is ruined and these parasites come at me for money I don't have, then they badger you into signing up, and get snotty on the phone (Janet? Washington DC Office) then they do what I could have done on my own which is call attorneys from the Yellow Pages. Don't waste your time. This could be a great service, if done properly, but it's a scam.

    Dustin,

With the Legal Membership you have, the document review benefit is limited to 15 pages per document. Any more than 15 pages and it's covered with the 25 percent discount off the attorney's standard hourly rate. Also when filing a lawsuit against someone else, that too is covered under the 25 percent discount and is typically referred out to an attorney that either specializes in that area of law or has more experience to ensure you're getting the best attorney for your specific case.

All of this is listed in the contract that was sent out to you on 08/16/17.

    Reviewed Aug. 12, 2017

I have been a LegalShield member for over 10 years and my wife an associate for nearly as long. I acquired my membership through a friend who was an associate and sold me the product. My wife was notified that she was being laid off from her job on Thur 27 Jul with an effective date of 31 Jul 2017. Her employer offered the LegalShield services and she acquired "her" membership through them (invalidated effective 31 Jul 2017). Due to the complexity of the given "Separation Agreement and General Release of Claims" provided by her previous employer, we decided to request legal counsel to have it reviewed by the "only one firm" that we can go to as assigned by LegalShield in our area, but we did so using my account (she is added, as my spouse) which is not affiliated to her previous employer or to any other organization at all (I did not establish it through my employer either).

We called the legal firm on Fri 28 Jul and received a call back from the lawyer until Monday 31 Jul. The lawyer was quite impolite and unable to listen, but his bottom line was that they could not provide services due to "conflict of interests" the firm had because my wife worked for one of their clients; as the guy was unable to listen so that we could get a deeper explanation, we requested to talk to a supervisor. We then got a call back from the supervisor on 2 Aug and he explained that the law firm does have a "conflict of interest" but that also since my wife acquired her plan through the employer, they could not review the documents and/or transfer the case to a different firm all while using the LegalShield services because of it.

Now take into account that the case and request to review the documents had all been done through my LegalShield account, where my wife is added and which has no affiliation to my wife's employer whatsoever; we also are not considering legal action on her employer but simply have the release reviewed and legal counsel be provided as it looked quite restrictive when it comes to her job opportunities in the future, we wanted some of the language rescinded or at the very least modified so that she has the freedom to be fully employed again without any worries of legal action. As the law firm explained to us why they were restricted we then proceeded to call LegalShield on 2 Aug (my birthday) and talked to a rep from member services, who was unable to fully explain the reason for denial of services, we later spoke to her supervisor who reaffirmed that we could not use their services.

Now, why would anyone buy a plan for which you pay month to month to have at least some good legal advice if in the end you can't have it because they have "preferential treatment" to employer or clients with group memberships? Also, why can't the legal representation/counsel be transferred to a different firm and why do they restrict the customers so much to ONLY ONE legal firm? We understand if a law firm has a "conflict of interest", but I don't remember signing any papers where we are unable (as a couple) to have documents reviewed if the "one" firm we are assigned to by them has such conflict of interests. It does seem that LegalShield has preference over businesses with which they have established a group account.

Legalshield claims on their page: "Worry less. Live more" (that's part of their motto I believe). They also state: "LEGAL PROTECTION WHEN YOU NEED IT. Life is unpredictable. You never know what's around the corner. LegalShield gives you the confidence of knowing whatever comes your way, your provider law firm is there when you need it." Such statement, based on our case is completely untrue, they left us hanging dry. This all happen during my birthday and on a day while we were also trying to enjoy our anniversary trip which had been planned for a very long time, the notice of layoff was given to my wife the day before we started our vacation. We had to then deal with two headaches, a lay off and also maneuvering and evasion from LegalShield and what feels as false advertisement. As a paying member of a service all I want from it, as a minimum, is to have that service deliver!

LegalShield has less than delivered on that objective of theirs! I have also followed-up with a BBB complaint regarding the advertisement LegalShield has given and the distorted way in which they completely left us hanging in this case. The reasons provided by their representatives are one that are not explained through any of their associates and also not provided during courses they offer, to which I have assisted a couple of times. This gives good reasons even for a potential "associate" (as it was the case with me) to have deep disbelief on their offered services and the claims they make to have customers fairly helped and represented. How can one, as a customer who is left in the sidelines, become a representative and later try to sell a product that you know is deeply flawed and filled with "unadvertised" gaps?

    Response from LegalShield

    Mr Diaz,

After looking into the situation, it was explained due to your wife having a membership with an amendment stating she could not use LegalShield against her employer in any way. This still applies if she gets a different membership, is listed as a spouse or listed as a dependent. If allowed this and assisted a member listed as a spouse on a different membership we would be circumventing the amendment. The amendment is listed in the paper contract LegalShield sends out to group members. If there is any amendment or exclusion it is provided.

Rating has been updatedAug. 18, 2017

    M. D. updated their star rating from a 2 stars to a 1 stars after speaking with the company outside of the ConsumerAffairs platform.

For whatever reason my closing posted yesterday was not loaded publicly, so will only repeat it here. My start rating has degraded to the lowest levels, so if I may I will leave it without stars. This is only a repeat of what I had posted yesterday but I can't yet see publicly:

I have been back and forth with LS (privately) and it has developed into nothing.
In essence, they stand on their ground that we are unable to get any assistance on having the "Termination Agreement" reviewed because of "conflict of interests". So, the upper hand goes to the corporation and never to the individual, not even review of a "Separation Agreement and General Release of Claims" to ensure we were not getting into a future legal mess -- guess what, I did all the work Legal Shield should have done, half of it while on a road trip of a vacation -- LS: 0 points for this one. We were in dire need of counsel, at a moment's notice (my wife was laid off the day before we started our anniversary and my birthday vacation) we had to deal with a legal ordeal all while on the road ourselves. Not only do they not stand by their "false advertised promise" of "LEGAL PROTECTION WHEN YOU NEED IT" but they can't even assist on advising which route to go and possible economically feasible alternatives (anyone can imagine how much would cost to get a lawyer, who charges per hour, to advise us in this type of case? And do it all while on vacation). I also followed up with a BBB complaint which shall be made available publicly soon, but honestly the experience has been the worse service I have encountered this year from any company and perhaps the worse I have experienced in the past 5 years, it may be worse if I take into consideration the others had some sort of resolution even if minimal.

I have nothing positive to say from this experience and about LS at this point except that consumers need to be aware what they are getting into. When I signed up for this plan I really expected legal representation/assistance in the times we most needed it, that succumbed in the past two weeks. Consumers, best find a reliable legal plan/service that will look out for YOUR interests and not that of others. Total disappointment and I hope other poor souls don't fall for these traps.

I called 3 times in 3 years but, the LAST (third) time I called, I realized I'd been foolish! My husband and I want temporary custody, uncontested, of our grandson. I called and they emailed me the paperwork we need to fill out. While I was completing the paperwork, and I want to be SURE it is correct. I called to confirm who is the "Respondent" and who is the "Petitioner." Their answer, for a reduced fee they could put me in touch with an attorney who could answer that question?!?! Seriously?!?! The reason they can't help is that if they gave me advice that affected my case, it could come back on them... SERIOUSLY?!?!

So, I say, if you give me the definition, or, god forbid, actually tell me if I am the Petitioner or the Respondent, that could screw the case up?! Anyway, what I got from them I could've EASILY gotten from the internet. I thought the benefit was they would go through the document step by step and help me fill it out, that is definitely NOT the case! If I can save even ONE person from signing up, this would be worth it. (PS I almost never write reviews so know, that when I do, I'm seriously irritated!)

    Response from LegalShield

    Suzie,

The reason the provider firm advised they could refer to you an attorney for reduced fee is due to the attorney of record. If an attorney were to give advice or assist with a case that goes to court, they become the attorney of record for the client. What the law firm was attempting to do was put you in touch with someone in your area that specializes in that area of law. The attorney of record must be formally fired by the client prior to another attorney taking the case. If this situation were to end up in front of a judge, the process to get the correct attorney for the applicable area of law becomes more complicated and more hassle for the member.

I hope this helps clear up why the law firm was trying to refer you to the correct attorney.

Dempsey, Roberts & Smith, Ltd. are the problem. Dempsey, Roberts & Smith, Ltd. SUCK! This is my second attempt to use this law first and my impression is that they do their very best to avoid helping clients. I called and spoke to what I suspected was a Legal Assistant who would not pass me on to an attorney until I explained the nature of my requirement. I wanted to have my Family Trust and Will amended, but they insisted that I first start by completing a new will form, submit it to them, and then they would consider the Trust amendments. I asked to be referred to a local attorney, and they would not do this without everything going through them first - i.e. they were demanding that I start the process from scratch. Where is LegalShield when we need you? What is the point of having a law firm 1,000 miles away in Henderson, NV? I have signed up with ARAG - much better options, and they have LOCAL attorneys that I can go and visit.

Pete, the process for preparing your Will, including revisions, is to complete a will questionnaire and submit it to the Provider Firm, who will then prepare your Will for you. There is no need for a referral in this process. It seems you have a misunderstanding of the benefits of your membership.

This is a disgraceful company to do business with. Shameful and Disgraceful. In March of 2017 I called and cancelled my two accounts and was given to understand that such cancellation had been completed with immediate effect. At that time I was given no instructions on any requirement to write to confirm the said cancellation and therefore relied on the honesty and integrity of the LegalShield organization to carry out the cancellation as agreed with your telephone based employee. BIG mistake!

On a recent audit of my bank accounts, I discovered that LegalShield had violated the trust I had placed in it during the above mentioned transaction and that the company had continued to help itself to my money as detailed: April 21, 2017 $9.95, April 21, 2017 $15.95, May 19, 2017 $9.95, May 19, 2017 $15.95, June 19, 2017 $9.95, June 19, 2017 $15.95. Total $77.70. Given that they were not legally entitled to my funds without my permission and that, in all good faith, I had cancelled my membership, these funds are now viewed as misappropriated by LegalShield and I have requesting that said funds should be immediately returned to me, forthwith.

This action may have been an oversight or it may have been simply dishonest, but either way this disgraceful organization further besmirched its name by the manner in which it dealt with this matter when I was informed that the loss of these funds was simply my own fault! Disgraceful! My advice to anyone considering doing business with LegalShield is DON'T. Try cancelling and see if their so called ethics are adhered to and see if they are honest enough to return overpaid monies to which they are not entitled.

Gordon, in short, our cancellation policy is this: you may cancel your membership at any time, by providing us a written request to cancel your membership. First, it is a legal and regulatory requirement that we validate the identity of the person wanting to request cancellation. Second, because the service involves legal issues, a signed cancellation is a definitive document versus a phone call or email. It is inappropriate but natural to think "they won't let me cancel because they are bad people running a scam." But that is untrue. We have a clear cancellation and refund policy, plainly presented in all our materials, and it is intended to protect the legal rights of our members, and the integrity of our business. If we can be of any further assistance, please contact LegalShield Member Services at 800-654-7757, from 7-7 CST, Monday – Friday.

I had PPL/LegalShield for several years prior. They started dictating letters to send on my own behalf, when I started getting frivolous lawsuits filed against me. I owned a company - Easy target. Right. I had a home mortgage with Litton Servicing LLC, collecting the payments. During my business shutdown, I got a couple payments behind. Litton said to hold my payments, they would "modify my mortgage."

A few months later, I received a foreclosure notice. I told Litton that I had the money, what would it cost to reinstate my loan. They would only give me a verbal number (illegal) and it was increased by thousands each day. With a foreclosure pending, PPL sent me a referral to a young, rude, hack of a lawyer, just out of college. I explained that time was of the essence. After 2 weeks, he had not even started... Told me to come pick up my check. I then had 3 days to move out of the home I had 10 years vested interest in (09/09) and it cost me $30k equity and my home. I became a "homeless veteran" for three years... Thanks for nothing, PPL... I WOULD CHANGE MY NAME, TOO, IF I HAD YOUR REP.

Also they limit referrals to three attorneys so if you aren't happy with a firm's high rates they will cut you off and you will be on your own to find a firm to represent you.

I was sent to the wrong department - again told the fault was mine for calling so late. The advice I was provided was basically, "Wow. this would be a tenant issue.". Yes, yes, it would be - didn't expect that piece of knowledge to take days to become clear. After advocating for something a little better, I was transferred to the right people, who then gave me the same advice as a friend gave me earlier in the month. The friend had quoted Judge Judy. An associate with LegalShield had signed up several people from my place of employment and town as new members; however, it was disappointing to learn that the law firm, Mattleman, Weinroth & Miller, P.C. that is assigned by LegalShield in the State of New Jersey, does not have Spanish speaking attorneys, nor do they accept interpreters to speak on behalf of LegalShield Spanish-speaking members.

When I called LegalShield's customer service, the female representative verified this fact, and told me that the State of New Jersey does not allow them to contract a bi-lingual law firm. When I questioned why LegalShield did not also contract with a law firm that has Spanish-speaking attorney(s) or interpreters. Her reply was very odd? I further asked who in the State does one need to contact to advocate for a change. She stated that their manual specifically states "do not contact the State"... just that every year they show someone at the State what they offer and that the State decides who they can contract with, and they are only permitted to contract with Mattleman, Weinroth & Miller, P.C. This response was even more bizarre!! Very unfortunate and disappointing.

I live in a town where 87% of the residents are Hispanics, mostly Spanish-speaking, that are interested and could benefit from the services. But with this unfortunate piece of information, the new members recently sold on the idea of legal access to LegalShield will have to cancel their membership for lack of services afforded Spanish-speaking members! :(

I have their service for 3 years and after my experience I could never recommend LegalShield and believe it has horrible customer service. Let me elaborate. Not one, not twice, but over three times when I ask for their help to write collections letters, they could not write a letter of any real value. For example I needed such as a Civil Theft collections and they could not even write not even the stern language of Notification for protection of Documents under penalty because they were not my lawyer. However, the claim they are there to provide legal help. Regardless, I offered the pay them extra. Heard no and no. I even went straight to the supervisors etc, but they all declined to take my money or write the collection letters I needed.

But even the letters they could write, I also could not for any amount of extra money allow any debtor of mine to call or email them to negotiate the terms of the any said collection letter. Again fully willing to pay extra but no dice with them. On top of that I sent them contracts to review and spent many days and weeks because of horrible phone tag, because there is no way to call someone back even if it was 10 seconds to get connected. Also you can't email direct any person. And to make matter worst again, after finally listening to the lawyer over his ideas, etc I then asked him to do the edits for again, extra money. Because I do not want to get something for nothing. Again refused. Declined. Cannot do such. In essence, their practice is when a person wants to have an attorney do any edits you have to get a referral and start the whole process all over again from scratch.

I never had such a hard time wanting to spend more money with a business than them. But despite those limitations I still continued to be a customer for legal protection in the event I got sued and throughout my membership time, I did go through all the proper channels and filled out every customer survey with no results other than phone calls. Then the straw that broke the camel's back occurred. That was when I reached out for a legal referral for a local attorney that could assist me with a Short Sale on a rental property I have had for 10 years as a rental. Again a referral only!!!

I was told they could not provide me a referral at all since the home was not in my business name but my name. My word nor even leases I had that I offered to send was good enough proof that this was a rental could be good enough because the deed was in my name. After filling another complaint I was finally told that the only way I could get a referral was to create a personal account in my name. However, I was also told during my back and forth with Customer service, told very conflicting information. Specifically, if I only had a personal account and needed help with a rental property, no matter whose name it was in, I would need to get a business account. However, since I had a business account but did not have a personal I would have to get a personal one.

I told them that is was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard to treat your customers and I told them that the choice was up to them. Either provide me my referral using whatever exception they had to do to get me a freakin referral to a lawyer in LegalShield network that I needed some help on or I will cancel my account and post the narrative of my experiences on Web review websites. They chose to do nothing. So LegalShield is not worth it because a businessman cannot get the help he needs.

I've waited for a year to write this review hoping to give the company the opportunity to resolve the matter. Unfortunately as of this date there's been no satisfactory resolution. I was told by the provider firm to file for divorce in 2013. They referred me to a lawyer who took my retainer and yet refused to file. I requested another lawyer. The second lawyer took my money and refused to file. I went to the provider firm and requested they represent me in the divorce. They refused. I contacted the corporate office. The provider firm then assigned another attorney who was supposed to be an excellent attorney. He represented me for two months. He charged over $60,000.00. Yes you have it right. Over $60,000. Bullied and harassed me, didn't file for the divorce.

With the last monies I had I found a lawyer out of the Legalshield system who was able to get a partial resolution. Of course I didn't have the kind of money the "excellent" attorney charged. Did the lawyer provided incremental billing? No. He refused to represent me. Did not itemize his billing. He's on the ethics committee of the State so if I file a complaint I'm concerned it won't be fairly addressed. I'm at a loss of what to do. I've called the corporate office and they've said there is nothing they can do.

Yes LegalShield can be great for some people depending on the issue. I have no idea why in my case each Legalshield attorney the provider firm referred me to refused to move my case forward but yet took my money. I'm now out of money. The case is extremely complicated. The Legalshield concept is wonderful. But when you have a problem with a lawyer your issue can snowball and the organization doesn't have an effective way to protect its members from abusive or negligent lawyers.

Updated on 12/2/2016: I just called LegalShield about my experience and the fact that they disputed my claim on this site without contacting me. The representative was very kind, listened to my concerns and said she would elevate my concerns to upper management. She told me it was upper management that makes the determination as to what will appear on this site. As I shared with her it is important that people know what they are buying when they purchase a LegalShield membership.

I am still a member of LegalShield. I've been a member since 2011. The phone consultations have been helpful. The letters written on my behalf by the provider firm have been helpful. However when I've been are referred to another attorney outside of the provider firm the experience has evolved to a nightmare. Members need to know they are vulnerable. It doesn't appear that the organization can help members if an attorney they refer you to mistreats you. Now I am hopeful that this time LegalShield will listen to my concerns and will attempt to help me with the situation their referral attorneys have placed me.

The first time I needed their advice in regards to DCF, they misinformed me and had it not been for another attorney I contacted (free consultation from the internet) things would have turned out very differently.

The 2nd time I needed them was an urgent affair yet they took over 6 hours to return my call. I called back within 10 seconds and was informed that even though I was within the "5 minute window" (no one had informed me of such a thing) to call back, the attorney was now busy and would return my call within 8 hours. I then called the emergency call center and was told that I was tying up the line... that there were people in jail and being arrested that were trying to call at that moment. They referred me back to the attorney and said I could not be assigned a different attorney. This service is a complete scam and I will be cancelling immediately.

I've had my membership with LegalShield (LS) for quite a few years now, but recently found a reason to take advantage of the outstanding service again! I was previously receiving an employee discount from my cell phone provider (the one whose main color is Yellow), and after doing an upgrade last year (2015) I was no longer receiving that discount (and I was never made aware). However, anytime I visited a store and had a transaction done, the printout always listed my discount as part of my bill itemization. Now like most people these days, I generally don't even look at my bill when it comes. I just pay it! After actually calling in one day to inquire about switching my employee discount, I was made aware that I in fact was not receiving any employee discount on my phone bill. I as a matter of fact had not been receiving that discount for an ENTIRE YEAR!

I made numerous calls to find out what could be done about that situation and how I would be reimbursed. Every call ended with "I'm sorry ma'am, there's nothing more we can do to help you. We apologize for the inconvenience." So, I decided to call my LS law firm! I explained the entire situation to the attorney and also sent them copies of my most recent bill, and the other documents showing that I was eligible for the discount. The attorney then wrote a letter to the cell phone provider on my behalf (at no extra charge!), and also mailed me a copy of the letter. Within a matter of days, the cell phone provider sent a letter back to the attorney stating that they could not discuss my acct info with them without my authorization, and attached a form for me to fill out to give them that permission.

My attorney contacted me and gave me the option to fill it out and send it back to them, or stay on the phone while they did a conference call with the cell phone provider (again at no extra charge). I opted for the latter option because it simply was easier and faster! Once the call was connected and the representative from the cell phone provider got on the line, the attorney introduced herself and announced that I was on the line. I was asked by the representative to verify my account with them, and I did so. From that point on the attorney spoke ENTIRELY on my behalf and I did not have to say another word! At the end of the call, the cell phone provider agreed to credit $457 back to my account to cover for the 1 yr that I did not receive my discount, AND 1 EXTRA YEAR IN ADVANCE!!! I was in total shock!!!

What shocked me more was when I hung up and actually got a series of text messages back to back stating that credits were being applied to my account! I couldn't believe it!! After I tried SO MANY times on my own to have the situation resolved by simply calling them on my own and pointing out the SAME thing that the attorney pointed out to them!!

After having my LS membership for all these years, I MUST say this is ONE situation where I can say that my belief in LS was truly solidified!! I don't know how anyone can live day to day without having this service! It's ONE IN A MILLION!! I never leave home without my LS card!! I also definitely don't see my future without LS in it!! With the amount of money that I was able to get credited back to my account, I would be able to pay for my LS membership for the next 2+ years!! That's DEFINITELY more than worth it!!! I HIGHLY recommend this service to everyone!! No one should ever have to live day by day depending on internet search engines to answer trivial and/or traumatic questions, when you can easily have access to an attorney as I did!!! Thank You LegalShield!!!

This is the second time I have trusted LegalSheild and they have let me down. Don't trust them with more than a parking ticket. Purchasing a condo in a tight real estate state like Hawaii is not easy. The attorney was polite and courteous did explain some of the challenges I was facing, as a new homeowner. I do not believe she was actually a real estate attorney or qualified to discuss my situation although she represented herself as such. Regarding the specific problem that needed to be addressed, the attorney asked me to supply some details so that she could write to the owner, which unfortunately was a conservatorship. I spent a considerable amount of time gathering the details she said she wanted.

The attorney then just dropped my case and decided not to contact a conservatorship for the problems I was experiencing. I believe it would've been beneficial if she had contacted the owners - the conservatorship - as it turned out they did not know about some of the problems we were experiencing with the realtor. Why she didn't write a letter as promised is beyond me! If your firm wanted extra charges she should've asked me, but dropping my case is not acceptable. I have serious doubts about LegalShield. This mistake or dropping off my case midstream cost me a considerable amount of money over $15,000.00 I would have and should have talked to a real Real Estate lawyer. LegalShield has done me a great disservice.

If I had never called Legalshield, I would have actually found efficient representation in time to bring my children home. I could understand if I had deserved to lose them, but a father didn't want to pay child support so his family did whatever they could to bury me with false accusations that I could've fought against and won had I not called Legalshield. Google Search, or even a district attorney at a court house could assist you better at a direction in finding legal aid. Good luck and God bless.

I do voluntary benefits. I purchased a table from a third party vendor to attend one of their corporate health benefit fairs they were contracted to conduct a company. It ended up getting canceled and the owner of the fair company offered me credit or my entrance fee of $150 back. I opted for the later but a refund never came. I called and left several messages and many emails over the course of a couple of months but never got a response. I remembered I had a legal plan from LegalShield. So, I called the service, my attorney called me back within a day, I told him the situation, he wrote one two page letter on my behalf and I got my $150 back!!! Wow!

I went to write the vendor a bad review on yelp and apparently I was not the only who had difficulty getting money back because he had a ton of negative reviews complain of the same thing. Thank goodness I had the power of law firm to demand my money and enforce my rights or all I would be able to do is write a bad review because without my legal plan, I never would hire a $300 an hour attorney to try to collect on a $150 issue! I love LegalShield!

I never really used attorneys before having this $20/month service. I didn't even realize how many "legal" questions I had until I had access to getting them answered! Recently I used LegalShield to review a work-for-hire contract written by me and another party. Within two days, I received a response and spent almost an hour on the phone as the attorney asked me questions, explained his concerns, and made suggestions on how to rewrite the contract and clarify points that neither me and the other party would even dream of. After we made the changes, he reviewed the revised draft, made a few more (very strong) suggestions, and then the other party was unwilling to make those changes.

Well, based on the advice of the attorney, I did not move forward with that contractor, because we could not come to a legal agreement that was fair to BOTH of us. Those conversations with the attorney were priceless, as I learned a lot and I felt confident every step of the way knowing that I had an advocate who had my back. It just makes sense to call and ask for help when you need it, and now, I call all the time! I love my LegalShield membership and will NEVER be without it!

While my husband and I were traveling out of state. We were pulled over and received a speeding ticket. We called our local LegalShield Law Firm through our LegalShield membership and spoke to an attorney. She said that she believed that in this particular state there were no points that would be issued as long as we filed the paperwork and paid the fine on time. Because she wasn't 100% positive, she said she would do some research and get back to us. I was guilty of speeding so we had no problem paying the fine but we didn't want any points on my record. I didn't want my insurance to go up. She called back later that day and said that after checking into it, if I filed the paperwork with the court and paid the fine, which I could do online, there would be no points on my record and our insurance would not be affected.

Here's the catch... if we hadn't known about filing the correct paperwork then we would have paid the fine and the points would not have been waived, raising our insurance rates for 3 years. Because of LegalShield we've saved hundreds of dollars in insurance. We won't be without this membership ever! We've saved so much more by using it than we've ever paid in premiums.

At that time I had my phone already in hand and I dialed the emergency number. A lady answered and I gave her my member number and an attorney was on the phone in about 20 seconds.

When the officer turned to handcuff me I tried to hand him my phone and said, "My attorney would like to speak with you". He took a step back and told me he wouldn't take the phone. After that the attorney began to ask a series of questions through me to the officer and by the end of a 2-3 minute conversation between the three of us, the officer got back into his car and sped off. My brother and I both went home that night with no charges!!! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone and everyone. Great service.

Well to start off I just want people to get their own attorney if they can. And don't use this service. I got tricked by a credit card company name Coastal Pay. They lure you and trick you to get their service and use their machine. But never tell you it's a lease machine with an outrageous price of over $300 a month for so many years with no cancellation contract!!! So when found out we got lure I try to cancel them. Eventually had to change my bank account so they cannot take money every month. So they got an attorney and try to take us to court.

So that's when I got LegalShield. They couldn't help me here in CA because the lawsuit was in NY! So they gave me a firm in NY to help me with the case. After I contact that Parkburry stand place. They really suck. The thing they did for me was send out a negotiation letter and send one to my email. Never said anything about they need me to respond to them before they send out. So weeks went by and I got more letter for that leasing credit card company. I contacted them. They said "Oh we emailed you and you were supposed to answer us before it's a go" so I said "Ok send it." Even though I knew what I'm reading. It state clearly that if I have any question then reply! But whatever.

So anyway time went by. Now I got a summoning letter! Called them. They said "Oh the company didn't want to settle that amount." Now they tell me? I emailed them the summoning letter to take a look at. Because I don't see the date I have to appear in court. They said "Oh, if you want to. Contact the CA office. Then tell them you need a lawyer to go to court for you. They then give you someone here in NY to go. Since you are a member. You get 20-25% off." (I can't remember how much off.) I was like "Ok. I have a membership so your ass can take care of things! Not to get a discount!"

But any way, I contact another lawyer in NY and ask her the same question. She said there is no date because this is a complaint letter and I need to answer it before it goes to fault amount on me! If I want she can answer the letter for $400! She also said normally those people will stop there. They only get money if people don't answer the letter from court. But if it get worse then there will be extra charge. But we will see. "Wow" very clear on price and know what she's doing huh! Meanwhile LegalShield lawyer trying to scam me for a few thousand dollars "going to court". Please stay away from this service. I will cancel this service soon cause it's no use! Kinda like buying a cheap car insurance! Pay pay pay and things happen you pay pay pay more. Lol!

Who knew paying for membership to speak to someone who is not the actual attorney is pretty much what you end up with. After 2 months, I called 9/14/16 to cancel and was told my request could not be done over the phone and would need to send a written request.

So I requested that an email from the cancellation department be sent to me. Well, I spent 57 mins on the phone being told, "The email confirmation was sent". I waited on the phone an additional 10 just to see if in fact my request was handled as requested... ERRR not. I spoke with a supervisor, then a manager who gave me his personal email. They both stated the email was sent for cancellation but yet I sent the manager an email and received it within 15 secs... A bunch of bs. Quick to take your money, but slow to cancel... LS will sometimes respond to concerns with a sympathetic phone call but no real follow-up and no "guarantee" that you actually get anything from the provider firm. I'm basically a platinum/diamond 5 yr+ member because I have made countless on time payments in full to them. So imagine my surprise when I go to use my benefit and I am treated like absolute garbage. I was sued and they refused to provide civil defense coverage because they felt that I could not win. I hired an attorney and fought the matter and ultimately won the case pro se (without using a lawyer at the very end). So their provider firm was dead wrong and wrongfully denied me benefits.

The firm also told me to basically google my legal questions to find the answers in my own. I'm like why am I paying a monthly fee then (?) and the attorney became irate. The firm partner also treated me like garbage and I am now planning on suing him for breach of contract over it. LegalShield/Pre-Paid Legal doesn't give a damn about your bad experiences with their membership except, perhaps, when you post about it on here. LegalShield = a false sense of security.

We paid for Legal Shield for over a year & never used it. When the need arose the "local" lawyer was 2-2 1/2 hours away which was not feasible to use. The other lawyer they referred us to was 1 1/2 hours away then when we called said he didn't have time to do it. The next lawyer we talked to was rude and condescending & also 2 hours away. Also when we called the 24/7 legal hotline we were offered no help, no lawyer talked to us that weekend (it happened on a Friday night) & in fact we didn't talk to anyone until we called customer service AGAIN on Monday. Needless to say we got a lawyer on our own & canceled (or so we thought) our service. We have been charged another month & when I called them on this was told they didn't have any record for the cancellation since they had only put a 30 day hold on the account. Their big pitch is the free wills but a will cost much less to have done than the year we paid into this.

For problems like traffic tickets, they've been great for about the decade we've had them (they switched firms in AZ about 9 years ago). But if you call for a legal opinion, they will do everything they can to avoid giving you one. E.g.- I called a few years ago to find out whether, in AZ, stop signs on private property have the force of law. At our nearby supermarket, there's a stop sign at the exit of the parking lot onto the public street. Do I have to stop there by AZ law? The advice I got is summarized: "Well, if there's a stop sign, you really should stop. You wouldn't want to ignore it and have an accident." My Mom would give the same advice, but I am a grown man so I wanted legal advice.

A few days ago, I called to find out the definition of a term on a warranty deed. They wanted me to give them all the details of who was on the deed, etc. I just want to know how a word is defined. I am not asking for legal advice. They've saved us some money, but I am wondering whether it's really been worth it, and am considering dumping this.

They have been extremely helpful in several situations where we would have otherwise been taking advantage of from cell phone contracts (claiming phones weren't returned), traffic tickets (running out of gas), sales fraud (shipper wouldn't release the paid for product), workers compensation claims, a 3rd party at fault auto accident, etc. Sometimes you won't like the frank advice they give. But it's better than having to invest a retainer to only find out that you don't have realistic recourse.

When I called the response was to call Merritt Webb the legal firm they assigned to me. So at the end of the day the monthly fee is to just refer me to a law firm. Not a firm specific to my needs... just Merritt Webb. LegalShield actually provides nothing except a referral and when you get to the law firm it a fee service. For your monthly fee, you get no legal services.

Also, when you call Merritt Webb, you first talk to a representative that asks the nature of your legal need. She asks a great deal of questions but it is frustrating that she asks a lot of questions that have absolutely nothing to do with the legal need. Then I'm told an attorney will call you within 24 hours. To conclude: Buyer beware. You are not paying a monthly fee for any legal advice or services, just a referral to a one-stop shop firm.

Unknowingly, we found out that they have been debiting our checking accounts for the past two years. Last year I did not catch it, but this year I noticed it within a week of the charge. When I called they agreed to credit me the charge made this year, but not last. They claim I checked that I wanted the auto-renewal. I asked for a copy of the form showing this, but I never received it. I did receive a check for the one year and confirmation that my membership is canceled.

My other family member discovered the same exact thing happened to him. I still don't understand how they can just debit your checking account without prior approval. I never submitted a blank check or filled out checking account information on their form. They must have taken the information from the check I paid them with and used it to renew.

Anyway, we called our LegalShield attorneys, Davis Miles McGuire Gardner and after reviewing both declarations documents, they wrote an awesome letter to the insurance company, stating the law, and if they didn't honor the first declarations they would turn them into the Insurance commissioner and the Attorney General for fraud. I am writing this review to let people know what a terrible experience I had for my first time ever with a legal issue, which involved family probate. My mother died at age 93, with 3 wills on a family property; she was very ill with Alzheimer's & Dementia, very debilitating disease. I tried very hard to keep healthy and help her stay on track with life in general; but, others in my family took advantage and had her create wills that she did not understand what she had done, in the end. Well, had to fight to keep myself in the last one my family had her do, even in her illness; and I used at the time Pre-Paid aka LegalShield to help me find a lawyer to do that.

Not a good experience at ALL from the start. The first lawyer they referred had a heart attack. The 2nd lawyer who sort of helped me, but mainly I did all the write ups myself, with information that was needed, plus paid for xeroxing fees, should be in jail for extortion - got $17,000 in fees, but my family property is only worth $13,000 and wants a lien on my family's property for $30,000 more for made up fees in the end with this lawyer, telling me she does not care and I was told by a person working in her office she has someone with the same issues with this lawyer - even more money owed. Well I guess, so if the books are being cooked to reflect as such; which it is only worth $13,000, its creative billings without explanation, and PLEASE do not for you LegalShield discount with this lawyer they refer. Every time I did, that lawyer got angry and went up on fees, with the account mentioned.

Now, I am having to fight against this proposed lien on my family's meager estate, to this day. And the last lawyer was disbarred. Then, when you complain to LegalShield about the lawyers on their list and what they have done, there is NO PROTECTION for the client. I tried to get that. What you get is the poor, performing, lawyers they refer you to. Even if you evaluate them, it does not help. They stay on the list. Something should be done about that I think, As the public would like to trust the company decisions to have these people on their list ALL over the country.

She was just not paying attention AT ALL.

When I called LegalShield they gave me the runaround about canceling my policy, did their best to harass me into staying by making the process to leave them as tedious as possible. When I asked to speak with a supervisor I was immediately hung up on and LegalShield's automated system refused to allow me to speak with a customer service rep afterwards, forwarding my number to an automated message. This company, much like many others that seem "too good to be true" is exactly that. You get what you pay for with legal services and what you pay for here is not worth the time. We have been LegalShield Customers for 20 years. It was prepaid legal when we first enrolled. I was 34, married, pastor of a church, four children, and embarrassed to say, we did not have our last testament and wills prepared. We got our wills done by paying the first month fee of $17 plus a $10 sign up fee. The wills were worth $1000 for the two of us. Then they helped us with a woman who was harassing our family horribly. They guided us through taking her to court, at no cost, we won, she got her name in the paper and she stopped the harassment. Over the years, this was the singularly best thing that we have spent $17 per month on. When the economy crashed, our LegalShield attorneys helped us to save our home, by giving proper guidance. So, needless to say, with these and at least 25 other great stories of how we have been helped, we give LegalShield our five star rating and endorsement!

Been a member for a year now. Everyone needs this service, it tips the scales of justice. Earlier in the year I put my two weeks in at my job, they gave me two pay checks on my last day. When I cashed the checks, my bank decided to hold my money out of "suspicion". I called the bank and they said it would take 7 days to release my money. My very next call was to my law firm Parker Stanbury. They fired off a letter to my bank and the very next day, I got a phone call apologizing saying my money was released. Thank you LegalShield!

Again, “NO you'd have to join NEW or keep paying for both" (since it’s joint) - I ask him to please ask the person in charge. Again his supervisor said NO. I think it’s a good thing to have BUT hate to have to join again. I had LegalShield service for 3 years. There was prompt response from the law firm (Davis Miles), but the advice was inadequate. 9 times out of 10 I was referred to an outside Attorney in which I would have to pay extra. I was once told by Davis Miles Law Firm's attorney that they didn't know about the Arizona law in my situation. I tried talking to their attorney supervisor and was just referred to an outside Attorney in which I would have to pay extra. This is common, not just my experience but that of many other members I have talked to.

I was also a LegalShield Associate and I had many complaints from my members in that regard. LegalShield membership services wouldn't help. Davis Miles Law firm sent me a letter cancelling my LegalShield membership without explanation. I contacted LegalShield membership services and inquired about the letter that was sent to me by the Law firm. They would not even listen to my side of the story and automatically sided with the law firm. I communicated with the VP of membership services as well as the CEO and I got NO results. They preach about equality and fair justice for all but they don't practice it for their own members. I could not be a LegalShield Associate anymore because I can't sell something that I don't believe in.

I had subscribed to both a personal plan as well as a business plan. When both my business and myself were sued in the same matter LegalShield was only able to provide me an attorney at a "discounted rate", a 50% reduction in service charges. That seemed fair enough as I had not FULLY REVIEWED the TERMS & CONDITIONS of our contractual agreements. The bottom line is that the attorney churned the file, had his own agenda and didn't perform as we discussed in our initial consultation (which is not free).

The bottom line is this, in my opinion LegalShield exists because attorneys are abundant in a court systems that rarely goes to trial and has minimum sentencing guidelines that only Houdini could get one out of. When I was no longer satisfied with the services the attorney sent me a final bill which he later corrected for overcharges. He refused to provide me a copy of my file and is currently holding all of my file hostage until I give in to his ransom demand. He cites some Illinois law that gives him that right. The bottom line he didn't perform as expected.

There is a reason. The fact exists that the only ones who benefit statistically from lawsuits are the attorneys and the court system itself. Save your money and hire a competent attorney when needed. This is the "fast food" leader of representation. Think about that. I speak from experience. You can either take my word for it or take your own risks. I paid the tuition to have a Juris Doctorate in choosing a valuable and competent attorney! Furthermore I paid a monthly fee to endure such hardship. I would be insane to revisit this scenario.

After not hearing anything, I called back and they said they were giving it 30 days. Over a month passes and I call to follow up and am told that the daycare never responded and I asked why I was not called back and told option. Simply put, they said they do not do follow ups. A separate situation was when I called and asked that my home contract for a purchased be reviewed for me and was told what to look for. Not much help at all.

My foot was broken at Ft McDowell casino and I hired Edmund ** to be my attorney. He said we needed to file by 2 years. He deserted me at 1 year because he either had other cases or he wasn't interested any longer (can't remember). When I filed at 2 yrs I found out it should have been filed at 1 YEAR. HOW EMBARRASSING IS THAT! By then he was working as a Partner at LegalShield/Davis Miles and on 3-5-2012 he said to appeal it by saying it's 'unconstitutional'. So this whole court case was screwed up from the beginning. In 2014 I had a meeting with Davis Miles, showed him all the emails of proof and Miles said SUE ME!!! The man was a 'teddy bear' and now he's a 'BEAST'. Ft McDowell Yavapai Nation, Tribal Court - Case #**.

UPDATED ON 06/07/2016: This is a followup of my life changing experience into poverty. I called Jerrod ** of LegalShield because his response was on ConsumerAffairs and he wanted me to call him. I told him my story on how Edmund ** gave me the wrong date to file. He said, "What can we do for you?" I told him I want $200k, which is less than what Edmund ** requested from Ft Mcdowell insurance company.

Jeff said they can't do it because IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY LEGALSHIELD MEMBERSHIP! I didn't say anything to him about my L.S. membership!! I complained about THEIR ATTORNEY. Request the tape because he recorded our call. (When my foot broke, I had an appointment with Davis Miles and he said he had no attorneys that had tribal experience).

My story stands. Edmund ** caused my case to take a downward spiral because he gave the wrong filing date. In 2014 when Davis Miles saw my emails, he saw that a few had DAVIS MILES LOGO ON IT and that's when he said, "SUE ME." Jerrod ** is just another 'Slick Willie' who will say ANYTHING to get out of admitting guilt (Isn't that what criminals do!). He asked me 4-5 times "What can we do for you?" 'He' is a good reason people make jokes about attorneys! I ran for Justice of the Peace in 1994 and my life experience, and common sense makes me believable.

The law firm then sent another letter to the city and if the weather permits, the trees are coming down because since they broke part of the sprinklers, the city is afraid that the roots are going to break the main water line which is very close to our property. I received a referral through LegalShield in Denver (Riggs Abney) to contact Kevin ** for help with a (hopefully) uncontested divorce as the respondent. My soon to be ex husband and I were having trouble making his own attorney understand we really did want an uncontested divorce and she seemed to want to escalate things and get us fighting! Kevin ** listened and acted exactly as I needed and wanted... was empathetic to my and our situation and gave me all the tools to effectively complete the needed legal documents correctly. I even was able to help my spouse complete his because his own attorney was negligent, rude and aggressive to my (then very ill) spouse... So Mr. **'s advice was timely, professional and sympathetic to our cause. His fee was very reasonable and I even got a refund!

I hear again and again how attorneys are out for nothing but money and want to escalate divorces and keep animosity between the parties... Well not Mr. **. I would thoroughly recommend him and his staff for a matter of this nature. Using the referral through LegalShield saved me 25% on the normal legal fees charged. I have used LegalShield consistently over 6 years and have found it invaluable for advice in both business and my private dealings i.e. real estate, copyright issues, divorce, poor workmanship issues etc.

In the fall of 2014 I moved into a house and I found out later that a lot of stuff was wrong. A friend of mine was telling me stuff that I could try to get the home sellers to cooperate on some things. Now I did buy the home as is and didn't get an inspection, but I assumed (first time buyer's mistake) that the disclosure agreement was also a legal document. If someone says there is absolutely nothing wrong with the house then it should be just that. A lof of stuff was jimmy-rigged and I wanted to know what my options were. It's a long aggravating - I don't remember who I spoke to, but he was rude and didn't even try to help. When someone is upset it would be great if the lawyer would drop the tone and stop talking to the client like you're a moron. I would have complained sooner, but I didn't know this board was here, so I'm doing it now.

Luckily after speaking to friends I did find someone better to help and they were able to get the sellers to compromise and give me money to fix a good portion of the issues. So we didn't even have to go to court or anything. I wished that he could have at least tried and dropped the attitude. I hope not all the lawyers aren't like that one or I will have to stop my membership. For the price they charge every month I would hope for someone to TRY.

I was a paying member of Pre-Paid Legal/LegalShield since 2010. It is now April 18 of 2016 and if you think this corporation is out to help the paying member, I have news for you. They could care less. Their claims of having experienced attorneys answering your calls and writing your letters is a complete lie. I've had an important pending legal matter for over a year. I was without a doubt a victim of a HUD housing scam. Plain and simple. LegalShield did not have one attorney that could answer a simple question. Further, they advertise how many attorneys they have at their law firms but do you think that's in the members' best interest? Nope, absolutely not. However, what happens when you call up with a legal matter that requires representation? I will tell you what they do.

I had a foot surgery done in April 2014 that failed. Whoever put on the splint after the surgery did it incorrectly and it healed wrong. Now the foot is worse than it was before the surgery. The doctor worked for a large non-profit Health Care System. With LegalSheild's network so large how do you think there wasn't a conflict of interest? They gave me a number to a slick attorney that convinced me that my case was worthless. All in the interest of the allegedly non-profit Health Care System.

Trying to navigate your way through the legal system is almost impossible in Colorado. Further, LegalShield is on the take from big corporations by alerting them of your pending legal woes. So, if you think LegalShield is working for you, you've been misled. They are able to give the corporations with heavy pockets a heads up on any real pending lawsuits and mislead the small paying member at the same time.

How am I assured that this corporation is corrupt? One of the attorneys making phone calls to members at the end of the day FORGOT TO HANG UP THE PHONE. Here they are making fun of their paying members and making comments such as "She has no money. That's worthless," and further derogatory statements that had me frozen on my couch. I could not believe what I was hearing. This organization is a corrupt scam for the paying members. For every member they help with a speeding ticket, there's another customer they direct towards an attorney that gives them bad advice.

LegalShield makes money from the corporations and businesses they protect. Your information is not protected under the attorney-client privilege. It gets worse. Once they know you have this recorded message both my phone and my computer have been hacked. They called around the clock trying to hear the message that could potentially put LegalShield out of business. People need to know LegalShield's intent and do not become another sucker.

I had an issue with my LegalShield membership, and instead of addressing it, they cancelled my membership all together and wouldn't let me renew it... I'm very dissatisfied with the way I was handled by LegalShield and it is a shame because Ross & Matthews which is the provider firm offers great services. Also I had a few cases in the past where they referred me to 3 lawyers outside of Ross & Matthews, these lawyers were HORRIBLE!!! I called ALL of them multiple times, left multiple voicemails and they never got back to me. After I filed a complaint against them, 2 of the lawyers called me back and they both never took the time to listen to me and evaluate my issues, they acted as if I was disturbing them and rushed me off the phone! They were very unpleasant!!!

Then I checked a few reviews on LegalShield and saw that I was not the only one experiencing that issue and these outside lawyers treat you like crap because they have to provide you services with a 25% discount off their rate... And every time they hear the word "LegalShield", they never return your calls. You have to file a complaint for them to get back to you and that's unacceptable!!! This is one of the issues I have been experiencing, talked to LegalShield multiple times about it, along with other issues, and I guess they got tired of me complaining and instead of addressing it, they cancelled my membership all together to avoid dealing with it and blocked me from trying to renew my membership.

The last month with them, they cancelled my membership and blocked me from providing any information to the lawyers working on my cases, but yet they still went back to my account and charged me $20 for a one month service/membership, which they had just cancelled!!! I wish there was a company we could use to file a complaint with these kind of businesses. It's like the consumer never wins. If you know of one, please email me the information, thanks! I sent a letter higher up and walked my way up to the CEO of the company. He clearly does not care much about the company because he never got back to me or have someone attempt to resolve the issue in a way that would benefit me, as a customer. In Dec 2015 my gas was turned off at my house. Calling my local gas company and talking to a service representative, I was informed my reoccurring monthly payment had not been paid. The gas company had in fact disconnected my natural gas service. After some back and forth with customer service representative I was told that my gas service had been disconnected by mistake at no fault of my own. When I requested to return my service asap, I was informed that it will cost me $49.95 to restore service same day. Yes, the same day service that turned off my gas! I was not happy. Requesting a supervisor to discuss this Policy proved to be a waste of time. Not happy. I assessed my options looking to my phone for some sort of guidance. I saw the LegalShield App.

Upon tapping the gold bar on the app I was connected with a law firm and was asked what I needed help with. I explained the situation and 10 minutes later an attorney from Ross and Matthews contacted my... I then explained what had happened. He asked for the gas company's number. 30 minutes later the attorney called me back and said he resolved the situation. Of course I said "How?" Calls from an attorney go to a legal department at the gas company not customer service. A little over an hour later the gas company technician was back at my house and returned our service. Awesome! Immediately, I called the attorney to thank him for his help.

Feeling great that the little guy finally won. I was surprised when the attorney asked me how much time I have invested into getting this situation resolved. Thinking about it, I told him 4 aggravating hours. Later that day in my email I received a copy of a letter sent to the legal department as the gas company asking for restitution for the time I spent on this issue. The legal department at the gas company agreed and credited me a $125 credit on my bill. From start to finish LegalShield was there for me. The little guy who actually won against the buy guy. Thanks LegalShield.

I have been a paying member for over a year. I have been paying 49.95 each and every month for this period. However, each time I call in, I have to wait "up to" 8 hours for a call back. This doesn't sound too unreasonable except when the reality of life kicks in. Like most people, I work. This means there are times when I cannot answer incoming calls, so when the lawyer finally calls and I don't answer they leave a message and I call back. Reasonable yes? No! Now I have to wait another 8 hours and this can continue all week. But when you need legal advice now, that means NOW, not in a week or whenever you finally connect.

Additionally, I sent in a previous Will that I wanted updated and improved. Weeks later, I received a Will that was so generic, it had to be from a software that has check boxes. If it was written by a Lawyer, this lawyer was not qualified enough to do the job. It was not worth the read, let alone to be called a Will. This will would only cause my family to be locked into litigation with the government for years, it would certainly NOT be of any help. I also tried using the law firm (Mills & Mills - in Toronto, Canada) for other files and received just the same terrible response time and pathetic quality of work. This is a total and complete rip off. Do not get suckered into paying for this (lack of) service.

I have used this service 26 times in the last four years and have had nothing but great service. As an associate I first visited the provider law firm just to find out about them. Obviously Consumer Affairs doesn't vet any comments made. A few of my clients have cancelled the service for various reasons, primarily because they never bothered using it. Not one ever had a problem with cancellation.

Last summer I received a $175 ticket for failure to have an up-to-date registration sticker on my plate. Before the officer had pulled away I was on the phone with LegalShield. Before I got home a former traffic court prosecuting attorney called me and told me exactly what to do. I did it and ten days later received a letter from the county court canceling the ticket. No fine and no waste of a half day in traffic court. My wife who was very skeptical of the service in the beginning has used it three times and loves it.

Absolutely ridiculous. I try to make my will because it is apparently included and since I don't live close to my "law firm" which is 6 hours away (one way) then they have to refer me to a law firm that is closer to sign and witness my documents/will. Great! But we have to pay 56.00 dollars per person + HST. Imagine that. So 40 monthly for a membership+56.00x2 = Over 152+HST. Might as well just get my will done by an actual lawyer and it will cost me less. Or you know, I can just drive 12 hours to go sign my paperwork! Problem solved. Not a happy customer. This is false advertising. Free will included = not unless you live close to your "law firm".

We subscribed to LegalShield about 2 years ago. During this period we have called upon the attorneys in Virginia on several occasions and they have handled our matters quite competently and effectively. Response times and follow up were excellent. Work performed was highly professional. The LegalShield app with the 24 hour emergency legal access contact button also is helpful and all 5 of our children have the app on their phones. About a year ago, we also began promoting the service as we believe that every American should have the protection and peace of mind afforded by LegalShield.

I had the membership for less than 6 months. I was pulled over for using my cell phone. I advised him that I used it to call for an emergency situation with my family. As the officer proceeded to advise me why he pulled me over and took my driver's license and registration, I remembered that I had the 24/7 access to an attorney. I called and I was connected with an attorney within 2-3 rings. I handed the phone to the officer who had a 5 minute conversation with my attorney. The officer then said "please proceed and have a nice day." The attorney later called me & he explained what he said to the officer. I was amazed with the service! That would have been an expensive ticket and expended a lot of my time to possibly appear in court.

I have been a member of Legalshield for over 4 years. I have used them for multiple things and always had a positive outcome. One of the most recent things was my son fell in Wal-Mart and busted his lip open. Wal-Mart wanted me to sign paperwork based on the incident and I was concerned I would be waiving my rights as a parent in the event there was something internal wrong with him. It was after hours for the law firm, however, I was able to call the 24/7 line and read the document to them. I literally had an attorney on the phone within 5 minutes of the phone call.

They were able to walk me through what information to provide and what not to provide. They were also able to give me peace of mind knowing I wasn't signing my rights away. Wal-Mart had their policies and procedures in place I do not blame them. But I have my own policy too, it's called Legalshield and you should have seen the managers' faces when I called my attorney after 9 pm at night. I felt so empowered to have someone on my side, for myself, and my family. Everyone deserves to have this access.

I am not trying to put out bad information about LegalShield, however my experience with them has been a runaround. I have been referred to 9 different attorneys who all say they will take the cases but when the connection of information has been passed on they refuse to speak, only the secretary. It is very sad because nobody knows whether the information is being passed back to the accused agencies and LegalShield only takes your money and does not do what they say they are going to do. For me it isn't worth it and I am going to get a total refund for failure to meet contracted services. However not everyone is treated the same. Some get better services while some don't. Good luck to those who can make it work for them. I am not having a very good experience and very disappointed that people take advantage of single families.

I have been with LegalShield for a while. Haven't used the service much. Recently I bought a condo unit and not even three months in, I received a threatening letter advising me that I am using balcony for storage, enumerating bogus things that I never owned and letting me know that in less than 24 hours someone would come into my suite and remove things (steal). Called LegalShield next morning (Tuesday) 8:30 AM - was advised lawyer will call within 8 hours. Call came after 8 hours and after my second call at 4:30 pm. I was advised by the lawyer that they will work on a draft letter next day (Wednesday) and I should get it. Got nothing the next day. Called back the day after (Thursday) - was told that for sure I will get something that day - got nothing.

Called back Friday - was told I will be called during the day by the lawyer to be explained why I didn't got the letter. Called back Friday again - end of day, was told letter was actually sent Thursday to wrong address. Called Monday, was told letter was sent Friday (before my second call). Called Monday again, provided second email address - got nothing. I am at a loss now, it is obvious that I am dealing with call center unprofessional stuff. Have a draft letter that I was supposed to get Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday and I didn't. This is a serious matter, regarding the place I bought, am a single dad and don't have as much time to spend with the nonsense. Really disappointed in the service. May have to cancel the membership as I can't seem to find any resolution/serious staff.

I know this may seem to be a strange story but it's an important one for every parent. I've been enjoying the accessibility that my LegalShield membership provides for years. But one of the best ones for me is this one. My daughter, who deals with a diagnosed social anxiety, had expressed her interest in having us purchase a snake. As a parent, I want everything for my children BUT a snake? I'll admit that was on the border of acceptability. But I told her, if you do the research on how to purchase, feed and house it, I'll look into it for her. She did her duty to the letter and I did mine. Turns out the type of snake in the area in which we live actually was illegal to own (local by-laws). So I informed her about my 'search' and thought that was the end of it.

But that's not the end. She said "How about if I call the law firm and see if there's anything around that challenge?". I was impressed but not too surprised because she had grown up knowing that she was also able to call the law firm (as the membership covers our entire family). When she got on to the law firm and explained the scenario, the lawyers explained that she could apply for an exempt and provided her with council on what to put on the application and where to send it into. Long story short, we now own a very exotic looking Ball Python that I've also come to admire.

The moral here, isn't just the story of this animal coming to live in our home, but also to the fact that here's a (at the time) 17 year old girl, who knew enough to seek out professional council and HAD the ability to do so, without it being a financial burden. What parent wouldn't want their child to be able to have that access? We can't be there all the time. But I worry less because LegalShield can be there when I can't. I'll never be without it.

I recently joined LegalShield for the first time as I had a tenant/landlord matter. The lawyer wrote a letter on my behalf and emailed it to me. In the letter I found a major mistake regarding amount of money that was being claimed. I asked for a callback and on first time I was called back immediately. I was told the mistake would be fixed and the letter then posted THAT DAY. Shortly after hanging up, I then discovered a 2nd major mistake, this time regarding a wrong name of the person it was addressed to. I called again and asked for an urgent callback as the lawyer had told me it was going to be posted THAT DAY. I received NO CALLBACK.

Over the next 3 days, I called a number of times, asking for a callback and trying to get the message through that the mistake needed to be fixed and asking that the letter not be posted until the mistake was fixed. Regardless of whether a situation is urgent, LegalShield supposedly have a policy in which lawyers are required to provide callbacks within 8 hours. I called over 3 DAYS, leaving urgent requests each time, worried that the letter was going to be posted without the mistake fixed. NO CALL BACK AFTER 3 DAYS!!! Very poor service, LegalShield! I'm very disappointed with the service so far. It's now the 4th day and I have still not received a call. I have no idea as to whether the letter went out with the mistake on it or not. VERY POOR SERVICE.

After signing up with LegalShield to receive legal services on September 29, I decided to call to evaluate the claims made by LegalShield by getting a referral to an attorney. I called and described a general story of a case and asked the attorney about his representation fee in the court. He gave me a fee about $5000 and up for his few hours of being in the court. The saving by being a member of the LegalShield service member, according to the attorney was between $50-$100. I cancelled the account and asked my refund 20 days later. They said it takes 60 days to review the refund. They never responded my emails and finally they were forced to send me an email by many emails I sent to them to get my refund of $27 dollars of what they stated as risk-free trial period.

They denied the refund and they stated "According to the schedule of benefits stipulated in your contract, refunds are prorated for the unused portion of the membership that was paid in advance at the time we received the written request to cancel. After carefully reviewing your request for a refund, it has been determined that no refund is due." They said because I used the service I could not get my refund. By using the service they mean I called their referral and talked to the attorney in the first month of membership about the cost of hiring an attorney! I found out what I save by being a member of LegalShield is nominal compare to what an attorney charges, that makes LegalShield a total waste of money, and a business that is a scam for what it claims and never delivers.

1st, I had an issue with an employer taking accounts. The Parker Stanbury lawyer told me I couldn't sue because the home office was out of state. I had it happen again and when I called a year later she was the same lawyer. She said, "Here we go again" and told me I couldn't sue and she TOLD ME BEFORE. So, I asked for a new lawyer. Same story. Well, of course you know where this is going. One of my co-workers had gotten the same treatment and sued and the company and not only is it possible to sue, they settled TODAY with that person. I was then listed in the lawsuit erroneously as a defendant because I had been in the management hierarchy at one time.

Legal shield ALSO claimed that there was a break in service so they couldn't defend me at a certain date. Completely wrong. This person stated they came to work at that time NOT when the issue began. I had over 12 conversations with Legal shield/Parker Stanbury trying to explain that they were misreading the dates on the lawsuit. So, not only did they say something wasn't possible that was, because I couldn't get something handled, it escalated and ended up including me.

Second case. I had purchased auto insurance Safeco insurance through Brown and Brown in Santa Barbara. I asked my agent to cancel my insurance because I was switching carriers. She agreed, but I receive a collection notice from Safeco. I asked how I was being sent to collections on a prepaid service. She informed me that they shouldn't have done that. I knew that but, she dropped the ball. I called more than once to Safeco and was on hold for over an hour each time. I contacted the agent and she was no longer at the insurance agency and said to now worry about it. I contacted the agency and was told I had to prove I had insurance somewhere else or it stayed. It's on my credit report so, I contacted Parker Stanbury and all I got was some guy explaining that there COULD be a clause in the policy that insists I have insurance before I cancel and they agency COULD be correct in sending me to collections.

I asked him to write a letter demanding my removal and he said that they COULD have something in their policy. I had to argue that what he was saying was completely arbitrary. I didn't ask what COULD be in a policy, I wanted a letter. I don't have access to my insurance records from 4 years ago but the policy COULD contain language that COULD prevent them from listening to the lawyer.

I remember when I used the service in the past. Flawless. I sold the service for my ex. I presented to groups and convinced them of the need. Now their incompetence has cost me. I'll cancel tomorrow morning. I mean when a lawyer says "Here we go again" and is not only wrong, it escalated to a serious issue. A year passed and "Here we go again?" What a shame. If you've ever felt helpless and the one you turn to, the one you trust basically betrays you, what do you think it does to your spirit? I thought someone had my back. I was wrong.

I have been a member of Prepaid Legal Shield, also known as Primerica Legal Protection Program for 7 years and thought I had some peace of mind in case my Sweetwater Ranch HOA (in Colorado) overstepped their authority and became too abusive. As it turned out, I was correct. But when I attempted to utilize the benefits which I paid thousands of dollars to obtain at this point, they turned me over to the law firm of Riggs Abney Neal Turpen Orbison & Lewis. The attorney who represented me was not only terrible but also provided incorrect legal advice. The case was over an 8' X 10' chicken coop on our 35-acre lot.

I provided this Prepaid attorney with letters from HOA Board members, one who stated I was 'justified in being singled out and no one else in the community was following the covenants'. Pretty damning evidence against an HOA Board who were not enforcing any covenants on any Board members and also didn't follow Colorado HOA laws in regard to not having open meetings and keeping minutes of their meetings. All of the HOA Board members were in violation and it was all well documented with pictures and e-mails. The case was pretty much a slam dunk win due to the obvious Arbitrary and Capricious actions of the HOA Board but I didn't realize that the only reason this extremely skill-lacking attorney worked at the Prepaid Legal Service of Riggs Abney law firm was due to he probably could not obtain a legal job anywhere else. The attorney's name is Steven **.

Typically, these prepaid attorneys lack the necessary skill set and that is why they are working here but the attorney I got was the one who answered the phone that day... as opposed to having the correct skill and knowledge about Colorado HOA laws. Needless to say, I lost my simple HOA case and was then ordered to pay the HOA's attorney fees plus my own. Please DO NOT waste your money on a Prepaid Legal Service. It will be costing me over $40,000 over a chicken coop and because I had an attorney who shouldn't be practicing in the legal field. And unless you've been through a lawsuit before (I hadn't), you really don't know what you're getting into. And lastly, per the Prepaid Legal Service agreement, I was supposed to receive 4 hours of prep time and the trial (up to 100 Hours) was supposed to be free. The firm of Riggs and Abney never provided these benefits to me.

I hired Glantz Law as to represent me in a child support arrears case where I just wanted to negotiate a fair weekly payment with the Florida Department of Revenue. They are the only option I was given. The attorney they assigned me was not very knowledgeable although family law is her specialty. My case was transferred from CT as I relocated permanently here in 2009. They told me they filed a bunch of paperwork to set a hearing and to stop any actions against me. The first thing I was hit with was a $250 weekly payment which is 5 times higher than my arrangement with CT. I told them and then they said they filed more paperwork but I was subsequently hit with a threat to suspend my license and registration.

All this time I'm waiting for a hearing to arrange a payment, not even arguing with the amount owed. They filed more paperwork and nothing happened until I took time off from work and went to the Child Support Enforcement office myself and told them I was filing a petition to negotiate the payment amount. They originally asked for a $1500 retainer and $200 for expenses. Now I just got a bill for another $953 and still nothing has been done. I have been a member of LegalShield for years and never used their services. I believe they need to get rid of Glantz Law in Florida or provide another option.

They do very little other than a will. No email, it has to be fax or snail mail. They say it is for security. Not true, I made my way up to a partner and the story was totally different. I tried to fax, they do not have a toll-free fax. So guess what, long distance applies. No calls back, the salesperson that sold it to me is never available and does not follow through. By the way, only one law firm will work with Pre-Paid Legal - only "one" in Texas! Houston is the 4th largest city in the USA and no firms will work with them. Do not use them, a waste of money. By the way - if they do not like your review they mark it; "factual basis unfounded". OKAY, you get 3 stars - hope they read the comment section.

This alone helped to calm me down. Thirty days went by and I had not received a check for the damages, so I called her insurance company again. I didn't call my insurance company. I called the law firm again. My attorney offered to write a letter to the insured. To sum up the letter, it stated that I could request Department of Licensing to suspend her license if she doesn't comply and provide a statement to her insurance company. I've been a member of LegalShield since 2011. My experience with LegalShield during these years has been fair at best. I live in the State of Virginia. I've had several legal issues to arise during that time. The provider firm responds promptly when asked questions over the phone. I've found that their advice is not always accurate. Unfortunately you won't know this until time has passed and you've made a decision based on that advice. I've also found that the majority of the firms they refer you to are sole proprietors. On their site they claim that "LegalShield has arranged for you to have a special law firm available to handle your legal needs. This firm has been screened, is monitored daily, and is ready to handle your legal matters with the interest and concern you deserve." This has not been my experience.

The firms I've been referred to are not monitored on a daily basis. They have delayed my case without cause, lost documents, misrepresented facts, and have complicated my case to the point that it will be difficult to find another attorney to represent me. I've raised my concerns to the provider firm's member services supervisor. They place responsibility on the quality of attorneys on the Corporate office. If you share your concerns with the representation, you become the problem. No one hires a lawyer to then have another legal matter with the attorney they hired. The concept of Legal Shield is a great one. However if the attorney you receive admits they do not have the experience to take your case after they accept your case and spent up your money and the provider firm takes no responsibility for the firms they refer, you would be better off just asking a friend or your brother's girlfriend's uncle for a legal referral. I am very disappointed.

I joined a company calling themselves a "Licensee" so they would not have to follow normal SEC regulations as franchises do. They were in another state. After spending thousands of dollars to join the group I soon learned it wasn't something I wanted to be involved with so I tried to act upon the Money Back Guarantee they offered. But when I did, they said "no" and pretty much said, "what are going to do, sue us?"

Well I visited with a number of franchise attorneys around my area and each agreed I had a valid claim to win my case. But each told me that because it was in a different state, the time and money I would spend on lawyers etc, I'd have about enough left to buy a cup of coffee. But then one of the lawyers suggested I contact LegalShield. At first I was skeptical but then said, hey it's less than $20 a month what harm could it do.

So I joined LegalShield and my home-state law firm referred me to the LegalShield law firm in the state the company was set up in. Once I got the name of the lawyer, I looked him up online and found he helped write the LLC laws for that state. I was impressed. But what really impressed me is how professionally and quickly they took up my case (again costing me nothing but my $20 per month). They contacted the president of the company with a very strong letter and we heard nothing. Odd we thought and then found out that after receiving the letter the owner of the company quickly sold the company off to someone in New Jersey.

Now if I didn't have LegalShield the lawyer fees would have been racking up. But no, LegalShield also has a New Jersey based law firm. So that firm contacted the new owner of the company who had no idea of what was going on (by the way, the prior owner broke the law by not disclosing this to the new guy). The new owner then contacted me directly and within weeks, I had a complete refund of my money. All total this took about 90 days and went through three different law firms and I got all my money back (multiple thousands of dollars) for a grand total of $60 in membership fees, which by the way was covered in the settlement with the new owner. I was pretty pleased with this service.

That may be the rule, but for the many calls I've made, I've never had an experience when my call was not returned within an hour. I've always been satisfied with the professionalism of the attorneys and the quality of their responses. I've saved over $15,000 based on advice from or action by the LegalShield attorneys. My wife and I were going through a legal issue and was assigned a lawyer to assist. We never heard from the lawyer proactively so we would have to call for updates and the lawyer would then state they called us (LIE) because they never did. The response we always received was, "We are still researching this issue." We never got anywhere with the lawyer and we didn't feel they were taking our issue seriously. I cancelled the service and advised our HR about utilizing them in the future. LegalShield would always tell me when I called for updates on my wife and I's issue, that they couldn't discuss with me (the husband) only my wife. I do have spousal privilege. I sent a survey with my feedback and when LegalShield called, wouldn't speak to me, only my wife considering I filled out the survey and paid monthly for the service. Company is a joke!!!

I manage both my parents' care and business affairs. Every Friday, I take Dad shopping at the local Walmart for their weekly essentials, and to get him out of the facility for a change of scenery. The Walmart has allowed their fleet of electric shopping carts to dwindle and fall out of repair. Their manager swears otherwise. I wondered if the local or State or Federal laws required better reliability.

After speaking with my provider attorney, I learned that they in fact aren't legally required to provide more than wide doors and ramps to make their store accessible. But, it was still such a blessing to be able to get quick, clear, authoritative info on that concern! True, it didn't go the way I'd hoped, but it feels great to not even spend any more time, wondering! Now, I think it's important to say that I've also had many more scintillating and deep legal issues quite well served by my LegalShield Services! I didn't find the form itself on my LegalShield membership site, but I was able to find several that could be edited by doing a search on Google. I chose one, edited as I thought it needed to be with the correct personal information, and shipped it up to Kivel & Howard, LLP, my Oregon LegalShield firm, for review. I didn't want to file something that wasn't reviewed and have it rejected. Time is money and the fees aren't small. A couple of days later I was informed of one minor recommended correction and told that otherwise I'd done a pretty good job! I'm as pleased as I've always been with the services I get through our plan.

Initially, I held a membership with Pre-Paid Legal and had direct contact with provider law firm: Evans, Loewenstein, Shimanovsky & Moscardini, located in Chicago, Illinois. During the initial paid membership and Pre-Paid Associate experience, there was direct communication with the provider law firm explaining a harassing work experience during a tumultuous 6 month tenure with an organization formerly named Vanco, located in Oak Brook, IL. (Now reliance globalcom).

The work experience constituted employee phone harassment, tool sabotage and both physical and verbal abuse abound to the Oak brook, IL. office. Thus, ending with a frail EEOC complaint and an arrest record for the purported victim. During the entire ordeal there had been contact with the provider firm. However, due a miscommunication with the provider firm or perhaps even a lack for a comprehensive approach in dealing with the mounting issues: job loss ensued and I became immersed in financial ruin; which played a major role in a chronic homeless, lifestyle.

The Pre-Paid Legal paid membership agreement lapsed and the financial capacity to renew the membership returned years later. Only, for the organization to ignore the occurrences that were reported to them during the previous arrangement. Legal Shield replaced the previous (PPL) representative, with whom I previously had documented contact with. Then introduced attorney ** and her erratic behavior. Just weeks after processing the renewed online payment, the second Legal Shield membership agreement was cancelled, this time upon the organization's request. To summarize the organization's determining factors for cancelling the membership, I did not possess the ability to complete the tasks the provider attorney requested.

In defense, **, possessed a myriad of malcontent personalities, quickly uncovered during our necessary business conversations. The attitudes, I ignored, due to the urgency and neglect for all the legal matters that had not been addressed in the lost time. To no avail, she **, had apparently been able to convince a higher authority, I did not possess the ability to provide adequate assistance and severed the paid agreement. Deemed incapable, Legal Shield refunded the second round of reduced online payments. Ignored the previously phoned-in and documented issues during the first encounter and promptly moved forward with their business.

Contacted the central office and (LS) held firm with its provider firm and disgruntled employee. I spoke to Ms. **'s supervisor (Mr. **) prior to the prompt exit from the program and held reservations about disclosing any discomfort due to the ambiguities within phone conversation. I do find comfort in face-to-face communications. Being honest, I simply didn't want to gauge an attorney's projected reality over the phone. I definitely, could use an advocate or advice.

I never expected I would need some legal advice & help so soon after joining (less than 2 weeks), but I felt I needed some legal advice regarding a faulty brake repair job on my vehicle, which almost resulted in an accident. Felt sort of awkward about calling LegalShield for the first time for advice, but within just a few hours I was contacted by someone there who had reviewed the details of my case, & sent a letter on my behalf to the (so-called) Auto Experts, where I had to keep returning my vehicle to be fixed. Within 3 days, I got a call back from this business & they told me they would refund the full cost of my 2nd visit. This has already been done.
