I wanted to write in about how helpful in my life having access to LegalShield law firms has been. I have had the membership for 16 years now. I saw that people are giving reviews, and mine must be heard. I have used to lawyers 57 different times so far. I use them for anything that ever comes up. A business tries to take advantage of me, I call my lawyers. I get a speeding ticket, I call my lawyers to help keep the points off my record so my insurance rates don't increase. By the way 3 tickets in the last 11 years, and ALL THREE times the lawyers went to court and won for me... ZERO points, insurance rates still low!

When an airline treated my girlfriend and I poorly on a trip, my lawyers wrote them a stern letter, and the airplane sent us several $100's in vouchers. My dry cleaner ruined a shirt of mine, and would not pay $48 to buy a replacement. My lawyer wrote a killer letter to the owner, and the next week I got an apology and a check! I will forever be a LegalShield member. You can bank on that. They could not ever get me to go back to being without it.

My husband and I needed to get new wills. We had both been married previously and had many questions about how to treat everyone in each of our families fairly. We each completed a simple questionnaire and then got on the phone with a knowledgeable attorney who spent about an hour and a half with us, answered many questions, and left us with good answers to all of our questions. Within a couple of weeks, we each received our will, living will, and healthcare power of attorney drawn up just the way we wanted. All of this was at no cost beyond our monthly plan. Also, my son had a traffic ticket. An attorney represented him in court at no charge, and the points against him were dismissed. This saved us a lot on insurance because he was 19 years old.

I would like to say without this service I don't know where me and my family would be. Most likely being taken advantage of! When I first became a member my property manager was trying to force my family out of the house we had been calling home for the last three years. With all the many lies and bullying. At the end of the rope, I found LegalShield. Within a two week span I received the advice and consultation that I needed to take a stand. I had gotten in touch with the owners of the house and had informed them of the wrongdoing committed by the property manager. After a twenty minute conversation I had received a new lease agreement with the homeowners and the property manager was fired. It has brought back a sense of security and knowing that no matter what our problem is, we will always have someone there to help us. Regardless of the situation.

I've been an associate and Legal Plan Member since 12/1999. I added the LegalShield rider a few years later when it was available. My sponsor is Brian Carruthers and when IDT became available I enrolled in that too. I made FSQ and Director right away when I first started. I was living in Metro DC area of Virginia when I first signed up. I paid my memberships faithfully all that time. For the most part it's been a rewarding experience and I would never be without the membership.

I moved to Fort Myers, FL in 2003. I've made ED Bronze twice, but never repeated. I had issues, but if I had focused, maybe I could have kept it up until today. I am very happy with the new field organizations and look forward to working closely with the new Field Leadership to grow the area and help Florida to move past Texas and California to no. 1. I am concentrating more on B2B now and have worked closely with ** in the past. I was his CMC for SW Florida (Ft. Myers) for about 5 years from 2005 to 2010 I think.

We do need to establish consistent and persistent luncheons and briefings in SW Florida. ie. Naples, Fort Myers and Charlotte county. There has been much inconsistency in those areas in the last several years. The membership for the most part has served me well with Framme Law Firm in No., VA., Glantz Law for the last 11 of 12 years. I did spend one year in NC calling on Merritt-Webb who was equally helpful.

When I first moved to Fort Myers, FL, I owned 2 condos, one which I rented out. There were several cracked tiles throughout the rental unit. The General Contractor agreed to replace all the tiles during their "12 month" warranty. I was travelling extensively at the time and my 85 year old renter was reluctant to move out for a week while all the old tiles were broken up, removed and replaced. The 12 months warranty expired on me and the General Contractor refused to do the work.

I turned it over to Glantz Law who wrote the contractor a letter stating that in Florida, I had much longer than 12 months warranty for repairs (I don't remember the actual Florida law and can't find the letter). Glantz Law stated the law to the contractor and said if they didn't comply and fix the broken tiles that I would exercise other options available to me. They did fix the tile floors. I asked around and found that it would have cost me over $3000 out of pocket to me if I had to pay for it. For less than a $1.00 per day I got the proper legal advice and assistance. The membership has been well worth it.

IN the last week I called for advice on 4 separate legal matters; 1) IRS tax questions, 2) Real Estate Trustee advice, 3) Auto Insurance dispute, and 4) Wrongful collections matter. The results were; eight consultations with experienced Attorneys, three sets of documents reviewed, and two letters written on our behalf. If I had to pay for all that out of my own pocket, it would have cost me thousands. I never would have picked up the phone in the first place. I sleep better knowing I have access to my rights, for a very low flat monthly fee. Thank you LegalShield!

I had a health inspector come to my front door investigating a complaint lodged by one of my neighbors. He informed me that he needed to go into my backyard to investigate the cause of the complaint. I told him that he was not going into my backyard. He told me that he had the right to go into my backyard. I simply told him "let's see what my attorney has to say about this", picked up the phone, brought up the LS app, called the attorney and handed the health inspector the phone. She told him he did not have the right to enter my property without either a court order or my permission. Since I had the phone on speakerphone I was able to hear the entire conversation. I loved the look on his face when the lawyer told him that. Knowing that I could access an attorney when I needed one like that is priceless.

We've used it for the Library of Legal Forms which we have had reviewed by a LS Attorney, also included. We've also had other Contracts reviewed. Also, on 2 separate occasions we had Companies claim that we owed money when we didn't, and each a LS Attorney sent a Letter and we never heard from those Companies again. We've also called several times just for advice and still have not received an Attorney's Bill in the mail for any of that Service. We feel completely secure with our Identity Theft Plan.

I've had LegalShield since 2009, called on over 3 dozen issues, had letters written, estate planning done and just gotten advice on items I needed direction on. I love knowing I can always call an attorney without getting charged for the call....that alone, for me, has been worth its weight in gold. It's not a magic bullet and some of the answers didn't err on my side but at least I knew what the law said. Attorneys are people too, they're not perfect and they have bad days. But when I needed to, I was able to call the corporate office and get help. I didn't get that with law firms I'd hired pre-LegalShield. And the identity theft with Kroll is hands-down the best I've ever had at half the price. I can only guess that those who've been disappointed, didn't understand what they were purchasing.

I have been a member with LegalShield for over 13 years and have utilized the service over 70 times. The best part of this membership is that it addresses the everyday challenges I face in this unfair society. From making decisions to insurance policies to having the much needed help and backing of a great attorney when people treated our family unjustly, LegalShield has given us peace in the most of storms. Recently, we received a speeding ticket while traveling to a neighboring state. We were able to fax that ticket to our law firm, they contacted the law firm in the state we were cited in and they contacted the DA and negotiated a very small fee to keep it off of our record. This happened by making one phone call to our firm and we didn't have to leave our home. The power of having this type of resource and access to a system that we really can't afford has more value than anything I can think of at the moment.

My membership changed my view about the term consumer protection! I no longer accept being treated unfairly because I know I have rights and I know I can find out if there is an alternative solution in my favor by calling my provider law firm. I recently visited a civilian dentist which was the first time since retiring from the military. I had not encountered being told I would incur an 18% interest charged for non-bill payment simply because the military dental care was provided. This form that was given to me caused some anxiety because I was unsure if the 18% was excessive or not. I refused to sign and they indicted I would not be seen. I called my provider law firm because could, not about the refusal to provide care, just to see if the 18% was legal.

To my surprise, an attorney was available and took my call in 2 minutes. It turns out the 18% was indeed legal but my attorney suggested I negotiate a lower rate. I didn't need to, because I plan to pay on time. But what was priceless was the responsiveness of my Law Firm and the look on the receptionist face as she watched me speak to my lawyer. My anxiety was gone, and the dentist staff called me back to provide care despite the fact I hadn't signed the form. Thank God for LegalShield!

I have represented names that are nationally and some internationally known. Our law firm did one type of legal work! No, divorces; landlord-tenant issues; taxation arguments, etc. Now, I am able to call an attorney and get swift answers and suggestions within a short period of time. Maybe, even the same day! I have used LegalShield attorneys eight times within 5 months. Contrast, about $100 for LegalShield membership vs. $$3,500 in anticipated legal fees from my law firm! With more questions and prospective procedures and advice in the future.

They have reviewed my contracts, made suggestions and pointed me in the right direction. This is absolutely the best legal advice you can buy for personal or business for the price. I run a web design and development firm and they have helped me with legal questions for years now. I cannot imagine not having them.

They send you a glossy membership package that ensures you of all these wonderful benefits. Well every single time I called them for assistance, they have never helped. They offered scant advice that I have found by doing simple googling on the internet. Also, I have had to correct them about the law a few times where the 'lawyer' I talked to seemed totally oblivious to them. That gave me red flags. They only give their personal legal advice, which has almost got me into a bad situation on one occasion. I tried cancelling my membership ONLY to be billed afterwards and not refunded the money. From guiding me as the primary caregiver for my aged parents in safeguarding their personal well being & protecting their rights... to saving my father several thousand dollars on a few separate predatory debt collection/misrepresentation issues with unscrupulous Bill collector's... to a senior attorney appearing in court on a few separate & unrelated traffic issues for members of my family at different times in different locations... to preparing a living will & medical directive in May 2014 that saved us unimaginable anguish when my mom passed unexpectedly in Dec 2014... all for no additional cost over the ridiculously low monthly membership fee. Went through a divorce last year. The Ex hired an attorney of her own and claimed an investment account was 100% hers even though it was a joint account. My research found that the original principal was hers as it was an inheritance, but the earnings were community property and should be split 50/50.

LegalShield verified this and referred me to a local attorney in San Antonio should I need it. He confirmed the position of LegalShield Attorney and we divided earnings equally.

The lawyer told us that he was used to dealing with million dollar cases and ours was chump change. We went through 2 lawyers at the same firm; there were no other options in NC. We couldn't afford the lawyers' rates even through Legal Shield. They didn't help us at all. They just wanted to settle our case and move on. We lost the case because of lawyer's incompetence and ended up losing everything. We couldn't do anything about it because we were broke after we lost our case. Legal Shield and their NC attorneys are a joke. The lawyers they referred us to have always given bad advice. If you have to have a lawyer, you're better to hire one on your own then you can choose instead of Legal Shield choosing them for you. I won't use them again. Membership cancelled.

Paid for services since approx. 2008 and upon using the service for the first time in 2014, I was extremely disappointed! My mother passed away and I needed a lawyer to settle my mother's Florida estate. I live in Illinois and I'm disabled living on a fixed income. I was referred to a Florida lawyer, Mr. ** , who was friendly at first and agreed on monthly payments after my initial $1,500 down payment on his $2,250 retainer fee along with another $345.00 to file the case in probate court. To cut down on a lot of additional charges, Mr ** agreed to allow me to either do administrative duties (ie. typing, stuffing and mailing, etc) and/or pay for services as we go.

Long story made short, we couldn't find a Will for my mother and when I first spoke to Mr **, I explained two of my eight siblings were running amuck with my mother's personal property and I wanted that to stop so that we could proceed as we should legally. Mr ** concurred with me that they should ceased that activity immediately. So, I supplied Mr ** with a stack of financial and personal documentation pertaining to my mother’s estate. Mr **, in turn, wrote a letter to the family at my suggestion but, the case actually stood in limbo for 3 additional months while I finished the 3 monthly payments in full. During that time, I kept the lawyer informed of whatever I thought he needed to know as things developed in my family. He, in turn, became less accessible, have a condescending and patronizing attitude/tone whenever we spoke to the point he would often raise his voice!

I found him difficult to work with, hard to understand, very slow about getting things done and often giving the impression that he didn't care about anything once he got paid. I called the Legal Shield office several times about this man and was basically told I could retain another lawyer, which was impossible with my lack of financial resources. I gave Mr ** all that I had....I couldn't afford that!

Ultimately, the situation within my family got worse and Mr ** provided nothing in the way of any alternatives for us to save the situation. It really seemed that he had very little experience in the estate field and could really care less as to what was happening with my family and my mother's estate. As of today, my mother's property is currently in foreclosure. I just feel like this whole situation could have been avoided with the proper legal advice and guidance, definitely more compassion and a whole lot more experience.

The BEST advice I can provide, know who is signing you up. Do you know them, trust them, like them? Keep in mind, once you are an associate, you are forever locked in with that person as long as you stay an associate unless they quit or you quit. There's one other option, I explain below... Also, find out your upline contact info, and speak with them way before joining. Remember, as long as you stay an associate, you are bonded to your upline just like you are bonded with the person that signed you up.

Before you join, call corporate associate services and find out what the process is to possibly switch teams in the event you need to for some reason. Listen carefully to what they say, write it down, then ask your soon to be upline the same questions and if they have ever released anyone and how tough they made it. If you are comfortable with what they say, great.

My own experience, there are ethical people and then there are some that are very unethical that will tell you exactly what you want to hear just to put money in their pocket. Once I realized who the person that signed me up really was and hearing lie after lie, I eventually sought all options speaking with corporate and higher ups on other teams. I eventually tried to switch teams. FYI, you have to get the entire upline to release you to be able to switch teams.

That didn't go so well and my own experience, I quickly realized the upline team not willing to release me even after sharing my story with each of them to what had occurred and all that I was promised by the person that signed me up. Lie after lie, promise after promise I shared with my upline. I also shared many other things this guy was doing, one of which led to a good friend I brought on as an associate to quit all together. I started running into people with similar experiences, hearing stories of what the same guy had pulled with others folks. I learned, I am not alone with my experience.

My so called upline has me now reaching out to every avenue I can, to share my own experience which has finally left me 2 options. Stay on that team and deal with mr unethical and continue to make him money and continue to hear lies after lies or quit all together. After a call to corporate today and talking with a few supervisors, I am choosing to end my relationship ending all ties with the company all together.

Because of this selfishness of "the team" I joined, I have not one good thing to say about the entire company and has left a very bad taste in my mouth altogether. Life is too short and many opportunities to make money working with ethical people as well as a company built and ran more on ethics and morals. Best of luck if you choose to join, I hope your experience is nothing like mine.

Not only did we lose all of our money, we lost our case because of the extreme procrastination.

At times we were told the attorney had a runaway teen case or a domestic violence case and those took priority over ours! We even were told by the legal aid that if the attorney doesn't file the papers on time that she would do it for us! I filed a complaint with our state's disciplinary board for practicing attorneys and they completed a review of the case and labeled my complaint as "concerning" regarding this attorney and his gross misconduct. I have been a member of Prepaid Legal Shield, also known as Primerica Legal Protection Program for 7 years and thought I had some peace of mind in case my Sweetwater Ranch HOA (in Colorado) overstepped their authority and became too abusive. As it turned out, I was correct. But when I attempted to utilize the benefits which I paid thousands of dollars to obtain at this point, they turned me over to the law firm of Riggs Abney Neal Turpen Orbison & Lewis. The attorney who represented me was not only terrible, but also provided incorrect legal advice. The case was over an 8' X 10' chicken coop on our 35-acre lot.

I provided this Prepaid attorney with letters from HOA Board members, one who stated I was 'justified in being singled out and no one else in the community was following the covenants'. Pretty damning evidence against an HOA Board who were not enforcing any covenants on any Board members and also didn't follow Colorado HOA laws in regard to not having open meetings and keeping minutes of their meetings. All of the HOA Board members were in violation and it was all well documented with pictures and e-mails. The case was pretty much a slam dunk win due to the obvious Arbitrary and Capricious actions of the HOA Board. But I didn't realize, that the only reason this extremely skill-lacking attorney worked at the Prepaid Legal Service or Riggs Abney law firm was due to he probably could not obtain a legal job anywhere else.

Typically these prepaid attorneys lack the necessary skill set and that is why they are working here. But the attorney I got, was the one who answered the phone that day... as opposed to having the correct skill and knowledge about Colorado HOA laws. Needless to say, I lost my simple HOA case and was then ordered to pay the HOA's attorney fees plus my own. Please DO NOT waste your money on a Prepaid Legal Service - it will be costing me over $40,000 over a chicken coop and because I had an attorney who shouldn't be practicing in the legal field. And unless you've been through a lawsuit before (I hadn't), you really don't know what you're getting in to. And lastly, per the Prepaid Legal Service agreement, I was supposed to receive 4 hours of prep time and the trial (up to 100 Hours) was supposed to be free. The firm of Riggs and Abney never provided these benefits to me.

    Updated review: Dec. 4, 2014

LegalShield's Corporate Attorney Resolution Department called and discussed my concerns on 3 separate occasions; they apologized for my experience, kindly stopped my automatic withdrawal, and sent a message over to the provider firm.

Further, I did receive a call from the supervising attorney at the firm; they indicated that the attorney who represented me would be contacted, to note my concerns.

I had a life changing, life lesson with this experience; I have used LegalShield for various things for @12 years and this one instance did leave me shaken. I will definitely ask more questions up front, BEFORE retaining an attorney for any future issue.

    Original Review: Nov. 20, 2014

Deming, Parker, Hoffman, Campbell, Daley is the LegalShield provider firm in Atlanta. I needed assistance with a bogus misdemeanor criminal charge and was referred to an attorney under the 25% fee discount - I paid a considerable sum (for me) upfront, trusting this criminal attorney was not only experienced, but had professional, people skills. You would think an attorney with 20+ years experience is familiar with the plethora of personalities and emotions clients may exhibit, in dealing with any serious issue - it's normal, human reaction(s); perhaps, take a refresher class in psychology.

I feel the attorney made false claims on what he actually was doing on the case for a period of 4 months, yet kept stringing me along by reassuring me it would most likely be 'dismissed' and the State's case was going to be hard to prove. For an 'experienced' Defense attorney he was not proactive; I was proactive and did much of my own discovery and communication, and then right before a November court date he called a meeting, to review my file and he seemed unprepared (court was 3 business days away and he was just reviewing the DA's 'Discovery' with me, after requesting it in August). Moreover, he became accusatory and actually seemed as if he sided with the Prosecutor against me! He told me to not speak, when I had a question, or he would end the meeting; it was a shocking Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde moment! I tried to focus, as he went into tangents and twisted/contradicted earlier statements, only to present a lame counter plea to the DA's outrageous sentencing request. He did not even discuss any alternate pleas that day, and even said he thought the whole thing was BS.

However, the next day, he said he could have presented other plea options, but accused me of 'posturing' - stop using the big words - and having an attitude, as the reason for not presenting other plea options, etc...? Again, who is this person/attorney? I actually was going to get up and walk out myself - a real professional should be less transparent and keep their emotions out of view of the client. Once the final plea date came on 11/17/14, this 'unprofessional' attorney was steaming, because I had asked pointed questions during the previous meeting and told him I did not like how I was treated. After a very rude reply, I sent a grievance to the provider firm and Legalshield about the way I had been treated at the office meeting, a few days before the court day. This attorney was a person I no longer knew nor trusted, as to whether he had my best interests in mind.

On court day, he politely greeted me outside the courtroom, shook my hand, and pulled me to the side to scold me in the hallway of the courthouse (right outside the courtroom); he was covering for the lack of no solid defense preparation, but said he would take the case to trial. I specifically told him I did not want a trial in our last meeting and said I was fine on court day - he tried to convince me I was not fine, kept telling me to stop, he said 'I' had in fact stated or implied I wanted a trial and how great his memory is from all conversations and emails, and that his own 9 year old child would have known what I should have done, when this incident occurred! I had just walked through the pouring rain, my shoes and socks and pants were soaked, I had to go to the men's room to dry out and then I had to put up with this lambasting, before going inside the courtroom.

How was he planning to try a case without preparing me (the client); he had not even bothered to contact my witness. When I retained him, he said he would speak with the person at some point when we met, days before court. 4 months later he said he had no plans of ever talking to my witness, then he changed the next day and said he would contact the witness - it never happened. Also, the time he spent chastising me (the client) like a child in front of others and asking me about my medical problems (who does this in the hallway of a courthouse) would have been better utilized on a legal strategy. The attorney could and should have spent this valuable time telling me how he was planning on handling and resolving my case; he said he was waiting on me to tell him what I wanted? If that was his thought, then why did I hire him - I believe he forgot he was working for me as the legal professional. Fortunately, the case was settled with a favorable outcome, because had it not been, I was going to 'fire' this rude, insensitive, unprofessional person, if the case lasted one day longer past 11/17/14.

LegalShield's Corporate office has contacted me and I cancelled my membership, because I will never use this firm nor any of the attorneys on their referral list. The corporate office has contacted me again, but I am adamant about my feelings. I have never been treated so disrespectfully and mislead, when dealing with such a very serious matter and entrusting the matter in the hands of someone who toward the end acted so disrespectful and confrontational.

Legalshield is supposed to provide legal services at a discounted rate to members. So I have been a member since 2012, fortunately having had no need to utilize their services so far. But my health isn't what it used to be, and my kids and I agreed that drawing up a living will would be a wise thing to do at this time, and putting off the inevitable would only create problems for my kids later on. As a Legalshield member, I'm entitled to a 25% discount of the regular cost of living will packages. Perusing the web, I discovered that the average cost is around $2000. My income and assets are modest, nothing unusual about that. My attorney with the firm Legalshield set me up with has me doing most of the footwork so far, he says jump and I jump, i.e., I've devoted around 4 hours each day in the last 2 weeks gathering up documents for him.

I should have asked for a quote before, but didn't think it was necessary, I mean the ad and brochures were so convincing, so inviting, I had no doubt I'd save a lot of money. The absolute tops for this process is supposed to be, and I mean tops, around $3000. Now THAT is a lot of money. Okay, thank God I'm a member! I will save 25% off what is already promised to be lower than the average cost. Imagine how shocked I was to hear I owed them $2950? Wow, what was their regular fee for this service? A little math and I came up with nearly a whooping $4000! Okay, I know there's something wrong here, right? I just can't wait to see what my discount attorney is going to say tomorrow when I bring this up. He's trained in all that interrogation and cross examination stuff, so I predict I am proverbial toast. And why should I be surprised? You know what they say about lawyers.

During the initial paid membership and Pre-Paid Associate experience, there was direct communication with the provider law firm explaining a harassing work experience during a tumultuous 6 month tenure with an organization formerly named Vanco, located in Oakbrook, IL. (Now relianceglobalcom).

The work experience constituted employee phone harassment, tool sabotage and both physical and verbal abuse abound to the Oak brook, IL. office. Thus, ending with a frail EEOC complaint and an arrest record for the purported victim. During the entire ordeal there had been contact with the provider firm. However, due a miscommunication with the provider firm or perhaps even a lack for a comprehensive approach in dealing with the mounting issues: job loss ensued and I became immersed in financial ruin; which played a major role in a chronic homeless, lifestyle.

The Pre-Paid Legal paid membership agreement lapsed and the financial capacity to renew the membership returned years later. Only, for the organization to ignore the occurrences that were reported to them during the previous arrangement. Legal Shield replaced the previous (PPL) representative, with whom I previously had documented contact with. Then introduced attorney Druella ** and her erratic behavior. Just weeks after processing the renewed online payment, the second

Legal Shield membership agreement was cancelled, this time upon the organization's request. To summarize the organization's determining factors for cancelling the membership, I did not possess the ability to complete the tasks the provider attorney requested.

In defense, Druella **, possessed a myriad of malcontent personalities, quickly uncovered during our necessary business conversations. The attitudes, I ignored, due to the urgency and neglect for all the legal matters that had not been addressed in the lost time. To no avail, she Druella, had apparently been able to convince a higher authority, I did not possess the ability to provide adequate assistance and severed the paid agreement. Deemed incapable, Legal Shield refunded the second round of reduced online payments. Ignored the previously phoned-in and documented issues during the first encounter and promptly moved forward with their business.

Contacted the central office and (LS) held firm with its provider firm and disgruntled employee. I spoke to Ms. **'s' supervisor (Mr. David **) prior to the prompt exit from the program and held reservations about disclosing any discomfort due to the ambiguities within phone conversation. I do find comfort in face-to-face communications. Being honest, I simply didn't want to gauge an attorney's projected reality over the phone. I definitely, could use an advocate or advice.

In the 7 years I have been a member, I have called LegalShield at least 20 times, and the actions of their attorneys have saved me well over $10,000. As one commentor stated, I might not always get the answer I hoped for, but at least I knew what my rights were. Judging from some of the comments, I suspect some people never read their contracts. This site, as of today, has 161 comments ranging from 2003 to 2014. That's about 14 per year. Since Legalshield reports 1.4 million members and 2.0 million calls per year, that's .00001% of membership and .0000007% of calls handled per year. I'll take those percentages for my business any day! I would guess there are a lot of much larger companies that would do anything to that low a percentage of "complaints".

I turned in the keys to the landlord and was declined to allow the walk through with me present. I took pictures of the empty apartment and advised the landlord that all work that we on the list was completed. Sure enough, they keep over 300 of the deposit citing carpet and other things that weren't cleansed. I contacted the 1st. atty and explained that I had pictures and was not allowed to walk through with the inspection. I sent the lease for review. The next call I got a different atty. She wrote a letter, but it didn't reference anything about the pictures or the guidelines in the lease for returning the security deposit. I got one voice mail from the atty. A different one again and wasn't able to talk to him.

I soon received a copy of the letter that the landlord sent back with copies of forged documents and lies about the condition of the apartment from my atty.. The cover letter from the atty (my atty) attached said that they considered the matter settled and if I wanted to pay their hourly rate I could hire them out of pocket. So they send out 1 letter, and they are done with you regardless if they didn't do their just work to get the outcome you're looking for unless you pay them more money!

I have been a member and distributor since 1999. Until this month, I was fairly happy with this service. But the law firm in California, Parker Stanbury, and corporate cannot follow simple directions. I had a few problems with the 1st lawyer. Second lawyer seemed great until I got a call from opposing counsel. He told her that he had not read the legal document (after he sent her a letter). The document was an eviction notice. I was entitled to 60 days and got 30. He had not bothered to read it. My abusive landlord wins. He did several illegal things but I had NO real lawyer on the job & could not afford to hire one.

I was at a disadvantage after Parker Stanbury completely bungled the case so I conceded to leave the residence before I should. Plus, when I complained no supervisor ever called me back and corporate keeps calling me on a number I told them was NO GOOD. But they all keep calling that number, NOT the one I told them to call. Cannot follow simple directions and screw up your life. That is what Parker Stanbury does. What I want to know is can I sue them for the irreparable harm that they have done?

He showed up late to court and did not notify my husband about changes in case in any timely manner. He was extremely friendly and sympathetic to petitioner and her lawyer. He agreed to a 60% as opposed to the uniform custody code of 20% of my husband's salary. He ignored a phone call that advised him of our daughter being hospitalized because he was at a party with his own daughter - Never called us! We found out through the school.

When confronted he told us to fire him - He quit before the trial. When asking LegalShield to help us, and we talked to them at least 3 times over the course of the year and always were directed back to their law department who stood behind their lawyer and told us he was a good man and they weren't going to do anything. Had you gone to a smaller firm, only one attorney bills you versus the multitude of attorneys they pass your file around to in order to jack up their billable hours ... but don't forget, your 25% discount ends up costing you 200% by the time they are done.

Why didn't he reveal that in the interview process... dumped him. Found another who was worse… wanted $4,500 retainer. The third one had a snarky attitude so I didn't hire him. A couple of friends wound up taking the cases on contingency which is how they should have been handled by the Prepaid Legal attorneys. First, those monitoring reports you receive and trust on a monthly basis - DO NOT. They missed a serious report that dented my score heavily (didn't know about it to react promptly). Then, when I actually called once to seek legal help, the lawyer was focusing at discouraging me from doing anything, explaining how everything is my fault and disregarding my instructions when sending a letter on my behalf. I have had the LegalShield service for 15 years. I have used it hundreds of times. I don't always get the answers I want but at least I know where I stand. They have saved me tens of thousands in business deals, done my estate planning, fought traffic tickets, collected money that was owed me, reviewed contracts, written letters, and even represented me in court over a very big lawsuit that was frivolous. Many of my business partners do not have a LegalShield plan. They try to avoid using Attorneys at all cost because of the expense. In the long run it ends up costing them far more time, money and stress than I ever have to deal with and my membership is under $20.00 per month.

If you get an attorney that is not doing what your membership says is covered then call into the Corp. office and file a complaint. They will get you another attorney, but more important they will figure out who the bad ones are and fire them. There are limitations to a legal plan, you can't do everything for less than $1.00 per day. Some of the complaints on this site are clearly the member not knowing what they bought and that is the representative's fault for not explaining it better. LegalShield is not the perfect answer for every legal situation under the sun. But for less than $1.00 per day, it's a darn good deal.

Good day to all! This dissertation is to inform the Legal Shield consumer on how they should best apply their membership benefits. Also this same shall better illuminate the dim and distorted factors which innervate the Legal Shield system. The reason I selected the "three star rating" is because there was not a 2.5 star rating by which to accurately reflect my over-all Pre-Paid Legal/Legal Shield experience.

    1. I have been a member with Pre-Paid Legal/Legal Shield since 1998. From that time, I traveled extensively as a contract health-care professional whereupon occasion engaging my P.P.L. benefits. The services I received during the early years of my membership were across the board excellent and I even became an Associate with the company. As P.P.L. grew, so did the greed, bad decision-making, cut-throat tactics and dog-eat-dog mentality (sound familiar?) of some P.P.L. executives and likewise up-line Associate Directors. By 2006, the A+ rated Law-Firms in league with P.P.L./L.S. began abdicating their P.P.L. affiliations due to much bad press from clients' dissatisfaction with newly recruited Law-Firms of ill-repute. Therefrom, Pre-Paid Legal gave birth to a very badly behaved child which much like its new parents is now known as Legal Shield.

    2. Over the past 30 days, I had / have 2 legal cases pending with Legal Shield via Merritt-Webb of Durham North Carolina. One said case resolved from my previous efforts before the Attorney could follow through with all her actions. Unfortunately Legal Shield provides only one Law Firm for supplying the legal needs of an entire state's members which subsequently is an unrealistic expectation. Another detraction is that members must become assigned to whatever Attorney is least busy at the provider Law Firm and cannot chose the Attorney of their preference which confirms the title of this text (Another form of gambling).

The Attorney to whom I shall refer to as Ms.T who dealt with the resolved case was stellar in her court-side manner and update with developments. The other Attorney, though quite congenial has not been forthcoming with communications post our initial contact. No matter what the profession per individual, we all are individuals indeed. Those with siblings know how very different the progeny of same birth parents can be. This same applies to work ethics in the workplace. Fortunately there is, as MUST be, a WHOLESOME standard of practice and behavior for and within every occupation, and hopefully person. Reiterating the latter point of item #'s 1 & 2; as leadership defaults, those under its management who lack moral fortitude for maintaining excellence (which unfortunately is most people) will do so when malfeasance becomes an unchecked application.

    3. The issues and money you send to Legal Shield are YOURS. Taking responsibility for them through ACTION is also YOURS.

    4. Initially I had very serious problems with Merritt, Flebotte, Wilson, Webb and Caruso of Raleigh N.C.; now named Merritt-Webb of Durham N.C. Said troubles began with incompetent unprofessional behavior by those who screened and directed calls to the Attorneys. Save for one Attorney with whom I dealt at the same both named entity, other attorneys there with whom I interfaced were abrupt, abrasive, rude, contemptuous, belittling, incompetent, and dismissive towards me, were placing me endlessly on-hold, VICIOUSLY cross-examining me, calling me "not believable", stating that "my case does not merit their help and to work it myself", and/or would hang-up on me during my statement or conversation thereafter. When final getting a subsequent rotation of Attorney/s to handle my case, the paperwork which went out was sent to the wrong parties where naming me as Defendant, the Defendant as myself and Litigant, and the third mediate party (my landlord) as both Defendant and Litigant. WHAT A MESS!!!

    5. Relentlessly, vigorously and vehemently I and a few other P.P.L. / L.S. members pursued rectification of this and other debacles to the good of all P.P.L. / L.S. members who deal with Merritt, Flebotte, Wilson, Webb and Caruso. Many phone calls and E-Mails went to the state and national corporate management of P.P.L. / L.S., The Better Business Bureau and the N.C. Bar Association with concerns of malfeasance on the behalf of P.P.L. / L.S and Merritt, Flebotte, Wilson, Webb and Caruso. As a result of much said pro-action, both said entities have cleaned up their performance substantially and made personnel changes. Legal Shield of N.C. is now constructively listening to members through member evaluations/survey of their total Legal Shield experience. Is this to say that all is well today concerning the national corporate dealings of P.P.L. / L.S.? NOT BY A LONG-SHOT! As for the newly named Merritt-Webb, they became much more member-friendly and competent.

    6. During recent years, I am no longer gainfully employed as a health care professional where subsisting as a disability recipient. Though the $17.00 per month I pay for Legal Shield membership extracts a moderate percent of my (fixed / actually $-broke) monthly income, and seldom do I need to engage said benefits, I shall continue with my Legal Shield membership as based upon the half-full versus half-empty glass concept.

    7. Minor problems can generate massive expense for setting them right, and especially so if the problem/s lingers. Of such minor matters in which the recently improved Law-Firm of Merritt-Webb seem to excel, the money I pay for their service becomes justified. Over all, the membership cost defrayment is $204.00 annually via monthly increments for the handling of MANY issues versus paying the same, more, or somewhat less UPFRONT for a same single service to another entity. In conclusion and relation to negative posts concerning Legal Shield, there are four sayings which held/holds true before their coin-phrasing RE:

    a) Evil prevails only when the good do nothing. (Jesus) b) Be the change you want to see in the world. (Mahatma Gandhi) c) Not until the power of love exceeds the love of power shall we ever know peace (Jimi Hendrix) d) It is better to be P***** off and proactive than to be P***** on and do nothing about it (the author of this text). Love, Peace, Wellness and Blessings!!!

Wow, where do I start? They are all liars. Frauds. I live in Texas, so I consult with Provider Firm Ross and Matthews, yeah, worthless - legal service with these guys is a joke. When I lived in Virginia, I consulted with Framme Law Firm, also worthless but that's just the start. A couple of years ago, these guys gave me advice that actually PUT ME IN HARM'S WAY. I followed their advice, still ended up as defendant to a lawsuit and then these guys tell me that my case is "indefensible" when I ask for representation. Yeah, they told me then that I had "no meritorious defense." Can you believe it? I appealed up to the corporate office of LegalShield, but the answer was the same. Even though these guys had actually given me BAD ADVICE and I had followed it to MY HARM, they would not live up to their contractual obligation to represent. Can someone say fraud?

But, really, these guys are horrible. This Joe guy up here and whoever else is writing positive reviews, he and the rest are likely paid by the company or employees themselves. That is the kind of fraudulent ring these guys run but that's not all! So after the whole incident where they abandoned me, Ross and Matthews stopped talking to me. I guess they were scared that I might sue them for their bad advice. So LegalShield started referring me to outside attorneys. Hey, it wasn't all bad. The outside attorneys were much better. But just recently, after two years of not talking to Ross and Matthews, LegalShield write me a letter out of the blue telling me that they are shredding my contract. Supposedly some Provider Attorney told them that I was "unwilling or unable to accept legal advice." What?! After two years of not even talking to that stupid firm? Are you serious? Is that even legal?

So I have complained everywhere I can. But LegalShield just replies with the same lies, trying to point fingers at me the consumer. But, hey, let me tell you guys. Complain to the Attorneys General of your respective states. In Texas at least, LegalShield tries to hide the fact that it is licensed through the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. Look it up. Figure out where they are licensed. Complain. Shut them down. Once there are enough in our number, once enough of us start raising our voices to complain, the company will fall to the ground and that is my hope. Complain to the BBB. Complain to the Consumer Protection Division of your Attorney General's Office. Complain to the Department of Licensing. Fill the Internet with your complaints. Together we can force this fraudulent company to its knees, force it to stop stealing from consumers.

My firm has been a LegalShield client for well over a year. We own rental properties in West Palm Beach Florida. One of our properties is in a gated community. In 2010, we advertised the property for rental and a section 8 tenant wanted to rent. We filled in all of the HOA forms and also the Section 8 forms. The tenant attended a face-to-face interview with a HOA board member and a member from the HOA's management company. My firm then received via fax, a NOTARIZED Certificate of Approval for the Section 8 tenant. That was passed to Section 8 who then approved the rental and allowed the tenant to move in.

In Spring 2012, the management company changed and the newly-appointed management company came up with new by-laws for the HOA, one of them being no section 8. We were notified by section 8 that they had been contacted by the HOA and that all Section 8 tenants would have to be evicted or vacate of their own within a month. I said that was discrimination and if the tenant, who is a model tenant, is OK to stay, then we will fight the HOA. The HOA started a lawsuit against us citing that we had breached their regulations in renting to an unapproved tenant. They even had the audacity to file the claim against my firm and Unknown Tenant A and Unknown Tenant B. Further, the HOA placed a lien against our property and also levied fines of $50 per day from the date the tenant first moved in - to date that is over $30K in fines and still accruing. Further, the HOA removed all my tenant's information from the gate pad, denied her exit keycards and also denied her a pool key. I contacted Palm Beach Fair Housing who investigated the discrimination case, found it of merit and passed it up to HUD. HUD spent 6 months trying to conciliate but the HOA kept lying and refused to agree to anything. It has now been passed up to the DOJ.

I needed legal representation to fight the lawsuit and LegalShield put us in touch with Glantz Law. The lawyer appointed by Glantz law was very negative. He kept believing all the lies that the HOA were coming out with even though none of their allegations could be substantiated. I kept providing evidence refuting the HOA's statements. In September the HOA dismissed the court action against us, but refused to remove the lien, the fines and refused to pay us back our legal fees and costs (which to date is over $80K).

As we wanted the lien removed, fines removed and our fees and costs returned, I told Glantz Law to use whatever legal means to get that. A court hearing was set for 21st Jan 2014. Unbeknownst to me, my lawyer left Glantz Law sometime in December. On the 15th of Jan 2014, I was notified by a new lawyer that he was now acting for me and that (even though a few days earlier I had pad a bill to them) he wanted a further $3,800 to ensure that he would turn up at the hearing on the 21st of Jan. He was aggressive and blunt - either pay now or I don't show up. I had no choice. I paid. He did not report back to me on the 21st of Jan so on the 22nd of Jan I emailed asking what had happened. He said it went well and they would be working for 2 consecutive court dates to get me all that I had asked. This was a lie as in April I checked the court docket and discovered that the Judge had dismissed my firm's action for the fines to be removed, the lien to be removed and the fees and costs we incurred to be refunded. Glantz Law are DISREPUTABLE AND ARE LIARS. This can be substantiated from emails received by them.

I kept receiving bills but no work and no court date was set. I started to question their bills in March and at that point was passed to another lawyer who stated he would sort things out. Several weeks and still no addressing of my questions about their bills was forthcoming. In desperation I turned to LegalShield thinking they would force the lawyers to act professionally.

LegalShield never respond in writing - that should be your first big indicator that something fishy is going on with them. Secondly, despite numerous detailed emails to LegalShield attaching copy communication between my firm and Glantz Law, I only received 2 calls, on the 24th and 25th of April both stating that Glantz Law had told them that a satisfactory resolution had occurred. Another lie.

I again emailed LegalShield, stating that was not so and that I wanted LegalShield to instruct Glantz Law to refund all the money I had paid them and also to return my file in its entirety back to me. No communication from LegalShield. Today, I put in a phone call to them and received a call back several hours later from Jeff ** of LegalShield. Mr. ** informed me he was recording the call. I too recorded that call. LegalShield stated they were standing by Glantz Law and that I would not get anything back. Warning to all - don't use LegalShield and don't use Glantz Law. I am reporting both to BBB (Better Business Bureau). I am also filing a complaint against Glantz Law with the Florida Bar.

For "free" advice on contracts and legal matters I must say the "services" are mediocre, to say the least. I had "them" review a financial matter that is lingering since 2006 and will come to a close in 2016. It is for a substantial (to me but only a few days of work for a lawyer) amount of money and I got sucked into this at my age of 64 by a "sales agent" of Manulife "Investments". After trying to get help from three different "Ombudsmen" and finally the Alberta Insurance Council, without any concrete results other than that I am wrong and the "Financial Advisor" is right, without any reasonable explanation why. The answer I got every time I reached out for help was put very eloquent and all I understood is: "You don't have any money and you don't count. We can't help you!"

Now after reading many of the posts here and especially the one place by a lawyer I am cancelling my subscription with LegalShield. I am 72 years old now and I don't believe that LegalShield will ever help me successfully nor can I afford the $27.30CND every month. And worst of all, to top it off, their service cost us more to close the house than it did when using the former/current attorney we used when purchasing other properties. They are on the ball and get things done in a very timely manner.

The second issue we were told like others, we would receive a discounted fee for one of the services not covered under their plan. Again, the fees would have been higher than our former/current attorney charges. Seems like most every concern tends to be subbed out to other lesser known attorneys around town rather than the Framme Group who are the attorneys they thought as being the local reps for our cases.

Sad part is I was a rep and had high hopes of helping others and ourselves save money. One client was helped by LegalShield, but when they cancelled their account due to job loss, they continued to bill them afterwards. Read and understand the fine print before signing on with them if you decide to join them.

I have given Legal Shield so many opportunities to do a good job and they continue to disappoint. If you are going to sell that you provide a service, you should deliver on your promises or not make the statements. Here are a few examples:

    1. I called for a simple non-disclosure agreement. They called me back a day later and told me they couldn't help with the agreement but could refer me to sites for the agreement. Two of the 5 sites I was given did not have a non-disclosure agreement on them.

    2. I called about an issue with a house that I own in another state. They called me back a day later and told me they couldn't help with the issue because it was in another state and gave me a number for a law office in that state. I called the office in the other state and two days later they called me back. Then they wouldn't help me until I mailed them a copy of the Legal Shield agreement. Then they sent me a fee schedule. I was requesting basic information and finally gave up on it since I had to meet a deadline.

    3. I called today to have an affidavit reviewed. They would not review the affidavit that I prepared because my son (who is also on my account) is the one signing it. In addition, Cindy was very rude (not uncommon for their reps) and when I asked to speak to a manager, she put me on hold for 10 minutes and then transferred me to another representative, Leticia.

After checking out all the paperwork, the compensation package, etc., it dawned on me that this is nothing but a multilevel marketing (pyramid scheme). I still am a member of Legal Shield but so far have not been able to use the service. I have complained and emailed negative feedback on their inquiries but received no response. I am 82 years old and know that the only questions that they can answer can be answered at no charge through The Area Agency for Aging and other agencies as well. I think the company should be investigated, especially their recruiting and compensation techniques. I will be contacting them for the supposedly free will, Medical Directives, etc. and see what, if anything of value I receive. Some of the Attorneys may be honest professionals, but I question the wisdom of them using the Legal Shield marketing plan for their services. Would appreciate learning more about other people's experience with the company.

Not only does it fail to include tax representation, it failed to include the time allotted for a lawyer to analyze my tax situation. Obviously, Legal Shield farms out legal representation. The law firm that I went with in Pittsburgh, PA, reached out to me once and explained that Legal Shield lied about the tax representation.

I followed up with Legal Shield and explained my situation. They embarrassingly admitted that the sales agent lied to me about tax representation being covered and tried to make amends. No amends were made. Just more lies on how the law firm tried to reach out to me and that they had left messages, which was completely false. Don't use Legal Shield, they are amateurs who farm their clients out to sub-par law firms. It's a waste of your time, money and frankly they themselves should be sued over this.

On your bank record, there will be a small charge ($15-$25) that is listed PPL. I got curious today and called it. Most phone companies, mobile phone companies, ISPs, insurance companies and banks will take a look at contacts and service use and make decision when you call them with a billing concern. LegalShield will shield themselves from having to do anything for you. My guess is that their business model depends on them billing people who are unaware that they are paying. In my opinion, these types of billing practices should be illegal. I also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. I hope someone brings a class action lawsuit against these guys.

It is interesting that I had to bring a lawsuit (which I won) on another matter against the very person who sold me the service. I cancelled my membership.

I used my membership not long ago for my business and personal reasons (I got both plans because I have spent thousands of dollars on legal fees in the past). It sounded too good to be true for me but when I got my wills, power of attorney and representation agreement updated (something I haven't done for many years). I thought that alone was useful. I certainly did not know everything that was in the will but they did a good job. Because each law firm in each area is different you should look up the provider law firm. I asked many questions about the provider law firm for me prior to deciding and also researched them (as any smart business person would). I later tested the business side and I was shocked at how thorough the consultants were. If they continue to provide this type of service I will definitely keep my memberships as long as I stay in business. I just wish I had this before I started my business.

Now I did see these negative reviews on this site prior to buying the plans. I trust BBB which gives the company an A+ rating. People make mistakes and 128 complaints is a drop in the bucket compared to the over 1.4-2 million memberships across North America. I believe this is a good company that genuinely wants to help people. It is in their interest to offer great service if their mission for the future is to make this a household name.

I was disturbed initially by one of the long-winded comments made by some Tammy or John or something. Apparently he was involved in selling the plans to people for a long time. I did some investigation and found that he has been spamming virtually every webpage and YouTube video about the company Pre-Paid Legal or LegalShield and 'warning people to stay away' calling it a scam. I wondered why he was spending so much time and effort into making the company look bad. I asked the person who sold me the memberships about this. Unfortunately she was in the business for just 5 months and had no clue who these people were.

Eventually I found that they were promoting a company called Empower Network which is a pyramid scheme type of scam that lures people into one big pyramid type of deal online. I was disgusted at how the two ex-LegalShield people were scamming people who were interested in LegalShield into spending money on their affiliate program so that they could make the tens of thousands of dollars in a few days. I was sick to my stomach at how unethical those people are. I later saw a website with rumors that they were cross-recruiting and doing other unethical practices.

I was so sick to my stomach when I read about those people and am glad they got what they deserved. Actually, I think they had it easy. I hope they rot for their unethical practices. If you do something wrong you should admit it and move on. If they weren't promoting their garbage scams I might have actually sided with them. It didn't take long to realize how low those people are. I later found out that most of the associates who were 'switched' to the other person’s organization stayed. That put my mind at ease because if these pyramid scam, Tammy, John or whatever their names were… were actually speaking the truth then those associates would not support the company.

That said. I highly doubt any of the comments that I am seeing on this website. Either the law firms for the people here are bad or the people writing these posts are so arrogant, egotistical, or broke that they can't even afford this rate. I've spent close to 6-figures on legal expenses for my business. Every time I called in to use my membership I spoke with the utmost courtesy because the attorney on the other line is a human being. I have received great service as a result.

I am sick to my stomach reading about all of these negative comments from negative people who were so lazy that they did not call member services prior to writing such uninformed posts. My associate gave me the 1-800 number. He never told me I would get free advice. Anyone with a brain knows that attorneys are not allowed to offer free legal advice because they can be held liable. Good riddance, do your own research. The company website says they return calls within 8 business hours at the latest. If I were to have an issue like that I would call member services as well as my associate. Maybe I was just fortunate to have a good provider law firm and associate to explain the services properly. Either way I really don't believe most of what I read online and could care less about the negative reviews now that I personally would endorse the service the law firm in my area provides me.

Here's the thing about LegalShield... you get what you pay for. What you supposedly pay for is legal advice, in exchange for a small monthly fee. What you get is a cursory review of your case and some superficial advice. I have used them about five times over the past few years and every time I have found their advice to be uninformed and of little use. Having been pre-law in college (20 years ago!), I have a basic working knowledge of law and have often had to prompt my "lawyer" on relevant statutes or arguments. Beyond that, it seems they go out of their way to make the process of dealing with them so cumbersome and so patronizing that you won't want to go through the trouble of calling back.

First, EVERY time you call you have to reiterate your account number, name, full address, phone number, and email. Second, you can't contact the attorney directly in any way. Not via phone or email. If you call, you can only leave a message. If you want to "email", you can only upload a full document to their web portal. Each time you have to wait 1-3 days for a response. It makes phone tag interminable... and I'm not convinced they even check the web portal.

On my last case, first I called and the attorney didn't even listen to my story - just the log line - and said, "I'll write a letter." I said, no, I'd like some advice on the case. And he said the only way he could do that is if I upload a document explaining the case to the portal. I couldn't just tell him over the phone. What's more he claims he has no internet access at work??? No internet access??? What kind of law firm is this??? He said any web links would have to be submitted in the uploaded document and he can go to a special "research computer" in some undisclosed location (not his office, apparently) to check it out.

Supposedly he did. And supposedly he called me back the next evening at 6.30 pm. Or so he says. A lie. I was home at that time and the phone didn't ring. And I have caller ID and there was no call from him. So I had to call AGAIN the next day and wait it out again for him to call me back. Now, my document has been sitting on his server for three working days with no response. Oh... and if I want his letter to be mailed out certified mail (what firm DOESN'T send legal correspondence via certified mail?), I would have to call back AGAIN to get that done. Can't do it through him... have to go back through the rigamarole... nightmare.

After 14 years of dedicated service as an Independent Contractor/Independent Associate, who reached the Silver Executive Director Position with the company, was featured in the Profiles of Success, in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Within 2 weeks after an argument with our upline Brian **, somehow he got our position terminated, as he is one of the top BIG Wigs with the company. And I wrote a blog titled "Top 7 Reasons for MLM Terminations" - it's #1 on Google for that topic... Basically a vulturous act by our Upline, causes the company to research a "false" accusation, and without contacting the individuals in question, they simply Terminate the position, and all of the income from that position flows UP to the Upline. So by Taking over or buying or however "acquiring" Mark and Tammy **’s position, he will gain upwards in my opinion of $25,000-$40,000 in income, and $7-$10,000 from our position as it is still growing and increasing!!!

John and Kelly ** are die hard entrepreneurs and have been business owners for over 20+ years combined. I (John) had thought that I had finally found the holy grail of direct sales, and network marketing. A wonderful way to build a solid customer base and a long term residual income. However after MidOcean Partners took over LegalShield in the Summer of 2011, all bets were off. My wife (Kelly) started noticing that what was being "preached" from stage by the new "Corporate Marketing Team" that comprised of some of the largest income earners in LegalShield/formerly Pre-Paid Legal Services at that time, Larry **, Mike **, Steve **, Kim **, Brian **, Darnell **, and a few people and top income earners from the Group Side of the company. Basically entrepreneurs who had their own businesses were brought in, put on Salary and even though the company was trying to improve and make things better, it simply got worse and worse.

They created contests, and rewarded the slackers vs. the producers. They started terminating people who had developed Legacy income from building a large team primarily by recruiting a team of sales people, and then without those people having to develop a large sales volume monthly personally, they (us) were able to have a pretty good lifestyle. I'm talking upwards of $7,000-$10,000 per month which was in my brain... a pretty good income. This was after we had started a ripple starting as an independent associate in 1988 when TPN the People's Network (another MLM/Network Marketing company that was owned by Jeff Olson and Eric Worre) was merged/purchased into Pre-Paid Legal.

We had personally in our team developed over 111,000 Legal memberships or Sales, and recruited over 32,000 associates. Well long story short, the angle the company uses to HOOK new recruits is this... Let’s show you our highest commission product and base our entire compensation plan we're gonna pitch you on a product that has the highest cancellation rate of all of the company's products. What you'll really find is that the LOWER the membership amount, i.e. the $15.90 plan or even lower, the legacy products that SOME ASSOCIATES STILL MARKET, because of exclusive contracts with legacy clients... those memberships are still being sold by select agents as low as $7-$9 per month. A special deal that no one else can do today if you are a brand new associate.

What really pissed us off is our "book of business" the 111,000 memberships and 32,000 associates had dwindled to just over 18,000 memberships, and we had just around 9,000 marketing associates still "active" with the company when we were terminated on October 2, 2012. This came as a surprise to us because our income the month prior to our termination dropped by over 70%, and we barely squeaked past $3,000 in September 2012, and the prior 2 months we had earned close to $16,000!

So naturally we called LegalShield Corporate out of ADA, Oklahoma, on September 20th, 2012 to ask why our income had dropped. Our business was very consistent and it was growing EVERY month because I was consistent as building new lines and legs or teams of people, like Jim **, who had reached RVP of Oklahoma, and then subsequently moved to the St. Louis, Missouri area, and Robert **, then later took over the RVP position after being the Regional Manager under Herman ** for a few years. With all of these top producers including the Entire TEAM FREEDOM organization that was created and built by Mark ** and Tammy ** were Platinum Executive Directors, they left to go to Nerium, a Jeff Olson company, and many, many other top leadership that is STILL with LegalShield and growing, and hitting top levels, contests, and reaching top producer status in both recruiting and group sales.

Well even with all of these leaders, after calling the corporate office, 2 weeks prior to October 2012, we were basically blown off, and no one could answer our question - Why was Brian ** in our downline (in Mark and Tammy **'s) position. And if he bought that position, why did we NOT see a BUY/Sell Agreement that we had to sign off on, that authorized him to get that position. All UPLINE Executive Directors in between a buy/sell agreement have to sign off when anyone purchases a position in someone's downline, as it can affect the upline's income (like it did us).

So when we started asking questions about WHY? HOW? WHO? We didn't get any answers from the corporate office of LegalShield. We basically got the runaround. We NEVER got calls from Brian **, but magically we got a Call From Brian ** within a FEW HOURS, so the company notified him that we were asking questions about this "unusual" situation. This MLM Termination or ILLEGAL Termination of our position I believe was instigated by Brian ** who told us when he called us.... that "if you show anyone the Screen Shots" that I had taken about his Name all over Mark and Tammy's **'s position that he would and I quote: "I'll make it my personal vendetta to take you out at your knees." He denigrated me, and we had a yelling and pissing match on the phone and then later he said he would call the company on Monday.

Well we heard nothing about anything until the morning of October 2, less than about 2 weeks later. We go to log into our back office where we check our commissions, our deposits, and place our orders for new customers. Well the back office was shut down, and the message said that this "address does not exist". So the company SHUT DOWN our business. Our direct deposits from them STOPPED the same day. We called LegalShield and the company said, "We do not need to discuss anything with you. You've been terminated." They were nasty ** to say the least. No one would answer any of our questions. No one would get any manger or supervisor to talk to us. They told us that they would ONLY respond to us via an EMAIL, and to contact their attorney, Kari **. I found out later that Kari ** and Tony ** were calling around to find out if Kelly or I were in or had joined Nerium or Seacret or any other business. They were asking around if we were proselytizing, or trying to recruit other LegalShield associates into another business.

First of all I had my business PRIOR to marrying Kelly. I had my business for 14 years! Kelly had her OWN separate business for over 3+ Years. They terminated my business, basically stealing my retirement income that I'd built up to close to 6 figures a year; we barely worked 20 hours a month to maintain our "necessary quota" required to keep our position "qualified" to receive commissions... Needless to say... LegalShield ignored us for 4 months. Not one phone call, not one email returned to us UNTIL January 29th, of 2013. They basically ** their agents over, take away their income stream; basically let you go broke, while you have NO money to try to fight them.

I spend hundreds of thousands of my own money teaching training, building people, building regions of people for them and they do this to us AFTER 14 years. And STILL to this date, they will NOT give us a reason WHY they terminated us. I'm writing this article on October 14th, 2013, over 1 year AFTER our termination. LegalShield ALSO got their "thug" attorneys to write us a Cease and Deist Letter, to take down our blog that we wrote about our Termination Story (Google: LegalShield Termination" and you'll find our story about John and Kelly **'s Termination from LegalShield EVERYWHERE on EVERY SEARCH ENGINE). They had the audacity to try to "SUPPRESS" my 4th Amendment Rights of Freedom of Speech - by the Bill of Rights. They threatened to sue us, but WILL NOT TELL US why we were terminated, NOR will they RELEASE our Associate Compliance file to see what happened.

I highly recommend that if you are staking your future on this company, if you've been there a short time or considering starting a career with LegalShield or formerly Prepaid Legal Services, my opinion is you should NOT join. Don't waste your money or time as the premise that you'll OWN YOUR BOOK of Business that will CREATE Legacy Income for your family and that you can transfer that income stream from all of the renewals of memberships to your family... It's really hard to pass on a residual income to your family when only 18,000 out of 111,000 were left. That's nearly an 85% CANCELLATION rate over our tenure. Even if we only got .33 cents per memberships in a renewal income each month, that's only about $5000 retirement AFTER 14 years of effort. That folks is literally **, and let me tell you why.

LegalShield will NOT play fair. They have not kept their promises with us. They have TAKEN our income and our business, and they will NOT tell us why. And in MOST other Direct Sales companies and Network Marketing companies... overall you'll ONLY earn about 7% to 30% commission with LegalShield compared to CURRENT commission programs in the market that pay upwards of 40-50%. What would you rather market... something that pays you less or MORE? More is what I say. Then I have found some marketing models such as Empower Network that we're marketing now because they have a 100% commission model, and they allow Agents - Independent Contractors to do other businesses, and the customer base is OURs not the Company's.

So If you would like to get more information on what we do, you can simply Google: "John and Kelly **" and you'll find us EVERYWHERE on Google. If you also look up "LegalShield Termination" or "Top 7 MLM Terminations" you'll see articles I've written on this subject... EVERYWHERE. So save your money and work with a company who will not sell against you and try to circumvent you at every turn.... like advertising on "Google" and taking all of the leads, without giving the field credit. They will use their phone reps to sell your customers and keep the sales for themselves. I've seen it on more than 10 occasions.

As a fully licensed NJ attorney, I seriously looked into this entity before I even thought about participating as an attorney in their network. Thank God I did so. This is like an expensive lawyer referral service. They offer you a "simple will" as a free bonus incentive, but what they don’t tell you is that a simple will is something that you can draft yourself. If your needs are more complicated, then you need an estate planning attorney anyway.

The lawyers give you a free consultation and will write a simple demand letter for you. Anyone who knows anything about "the legal system" knows that a simple demand letter, while sometimes getting results, is simply the "first step" in the process and many times goes right into the trash. But if anything above and beyond a demand letter is needed, you have to pay for the attorney at their "discounted rate". And since obviously not all attorneys participate in this program, you must be willing to use a participating lawyer in order to even avail yourself of the discount in the first place.

Even more troubling is the MLM structure of the entire business model. They don’t tell you that 95% of the "sales representatives" make less than $200 a year in commissions, and they skew all of their financial and membership numbers drastically to make it appear to prospective sales reps and clients as if this is a legit money making opportunity and a profitable company.

But what really pisses me off is to hear complaints like some of those on this board. Genuine people with genuine legal problems who respond to blogs, classified ads, etc. seeking REAL attorneys and needing real legal advice. Next thing they know, they are getting a call from a Prepaid Legal sales rep. Now you have someone who might not even have a high school education, much less a genuine legal background, giving you advice and trying, in you hour of need, to sign you up to this useless service. They lie to you, insisting that the program can really help you, no matter what your situation, just to get you signed up. How reprehensible and shady is that? Be Careful People. It’s a SCAM. 100%

Then the Legal Shield Attorney tells you that you get a 25% discount. Well, we added up the costs. They are at least 30% higher than everyone else. Chuck, what a scam. People, be aware.

I was with LegalShield (formerly PrePaid Legal) for years. The legal advice I received was not always reliable. You pay for what you get. The real problem is that if you get into a situation that should be covered, they can opt to drop you without cause. This happened to me when I was sued and needed their help. Instead of covering my problem, as our contract states, LegalShield opted to drop me as a member without expressing a reason. I would never recommend their service. Be aware the service they provide is at their sole discretion. You can and will get dropped for any reason.

I recently took a CHL class and LegalShield did an excellent job at pitching their membership. It sounded wonderful, and I should have known better. I filled out the forms and gave them a check for my first payment and to join. Later that evening, I did some research online about them and read some pretty terrible reviews. I immediately tried to contact them, and received no answer. I sent an email to their member services requesting that they do not create a membership for me. I contacted my bank and put a stop-payment on the check, and blocked LegalShield from drafting the membership fee.

Soon, I received an email welcoming me to LegalShield, along with membership information. I immediately called them again and got through to someone. I told her my situation, and she gave me a different number to call. After calling that number and speaking to an agent, my membership was canceled. I had to fill out a form and fax it back to them to officially cancel the membership. I received an email stating that my membership was cancelled.

Today, I checked my bank account and LegalShield made THREE drafts. I called my bank and they said that LegalShield purposely broke the payment into several small amounts to force the charge through. I am absolutely furious. This company is supposed to protect you from this kind of thing happening to you, and here they are playing the role of the bad guy. I will be reporting them to the BBB, and submitting a review in as many places as I can to warn people about this company.

I was doing a favor for a friend that was wondering what companies out there might offer credit repair services. I went on to Google for "credit repair companies" and found a local law firm that had an article on their website about whether any agency can really fix someone's credit or not, and if it's possible, how much should someone anticipate spending for such a service. Nowhere on that page was Pre-Paid Legal Services or Legal Shield mentioned. This looked like a legitimate law firm.

I gave the contact info to my friend and he called the next day. He spoke with someone at this law firm and they explained that they do offer a service to help customers. The fee didn't sound too bad, so my friend agreed to use their help with this matter and signed up with them. They asked for his method of payment and he gave them his credit card info. Once they secured his payment info, they quickly transferred him or sent him to someone else. My friend was like, "Wait a minute. Who are you sending me to? Why do I need to talk to those people?" This so-called law firm said another law firm in another city would be handling things from here. My friend was told the name of this agency and then that was the end of that conversation.

Now this new agency came on the line and it was a law firm company that went by a certain name, but they were really part of Legal Shield. They then started to rattle off why they felt they could help my friend, but my friend authorized that other law firm to help him NOT LEGAL SHIELD.

He immediately asked for a refund and to cancel everything. He had dealt with Legal Shield before and wanted nothing to do with them. He was suckered into signing up with them under false pretenses. The first agency was like, "Oh, yeah, we can do this for you and that for you. It will cost you this much to sign up. How would you like to pay for that?" Once they got his info, time to switch to someone else!! What a shady way of doing business.

A cancellation form was filled out and submitted back to the company, but they told my friend they wouldn't be able to refund ALL of his money. What? Why? That's not right. He canceled his so-called membership with this company within minutes of realizing what had happened through their scam.

This is a horrible way to do business. It's unprofessional. I'll look further into the matter and report these crooks to everyone I can find so people know not to do business with them. Companies that really care about helping people know that customer service is HUGE and that word of mouth from customers speaks volumes. You either create a loyal following and referral business through the excellent service you provide, or you upset people to the point that they'll make sure word gets out to not do business with that company. I'm not recommending anyone do business with Legal Shield (Pre-Paid Legal). Stay away from them!

I have mixed feelings regarding LegalShield (LS). I've been a member for 10 years. For the money, about $10 or $20 per month, you get a lot of service. They have a central staff of lawyers who are willing to do document reviews up to 10 pages per matter, unlimited phone consults and will give you a discount if you need to hire an attorney. Usually you get good advice from most of the attorneys but sometimes you get a bad one and should call back to speak to someone else. I've had problems with their legal referral service in that they weren't particular enough in specifying what I needed and I had to reject some attorneys.

A big disappointment occurred recently when I was sued and claimed the free representation benefit; their response was to arbitrarily deny it, forcing me to write to them explaining why they were wrong and demanding arbitration. This caused them to change course and provide the coverage. I thought that was very sleazy. Also, they over promise regarding selling their plans. It is very difficult to make money selling them but they promote it as a good paying job. If you are aggressive with this company it is ok but if you are a pushover you'll lose money. I wish it were better.

I was given 5 referrals and all of them refused to help me or assist me. Some of these referrals were not even close in regards to what I needed in the specialty of law required. For example, I had a white collar criminal fraud case, and Legal Shield referred me to a divorce lawyer who does family law. I called Oklahoma Daily. Later I found these are just scare tactics. I signed up and started paying the 25 bucks a month.

Finally, a lawyer, way on the other side of the state contacted me, instead of somebody close by. This guy told me that he was going on vacation, and to go into court and just ask them for an extension. This way, when he came back from vacation he could help me. I asked for another lawyer but did not get one. I ended up going into court by myself with my daughter and the prosecutor talked to her. She was told to stay out of trouble for the next year and her record would be wiped clean. So this is the service I paid for? I quickly cancelled. These people are a joke and a scam.

I faxed the papers in from OfficeMax and the fax was confirmed. At that point I thought I was finished with Legal Shield. My wife is in Medical school; I'm in school and we have 3 kids. By the time we had the chance to monitor our bank account, a few months had gone by. We then noticed that money was still being withdrawn from Legal Shield. I realize that I should have made sure that our account was cancelled but at the same time they did not email or mail me a letter informing me that our account was going to be taken off the cancellation hold and reactivated.

It was clear that I had every intention of canceling the account and they wanted to make it very difficult for me to do so. Not only did they make it difficult with the misinformation about the fax, because I later found out that I could've emailed my cancellation but they wanted to see if I would forget about the cancellation so they could continue to take my money until I catch them.

I initially contacted **, the LegalShield attorneys in my area. The person I spoke to was Ed, who said he was an attorney, but wouldn't give me his last name. After several phone calls and sending him pictures of the accident scene, he indicated that my case was more serious than a routine demand letter, but the attorneys didn't want the case because of its merits (or lack thereof). My understanding of PrePaid Legal was that matters of relatively easy resolution were included for no additional cost, and that more serious matters would be charged a reduced fee.

I thought that this was a more serious situation and, at least, should be addressed in person at the firm's office. I thought I had a viable case and the attorney fees were appropriate. Apparently, Ed didn't think so. At this point, I felt I was being sloughed off, and it was time for me to move on. I subsequently cancelled my membership, and eventually got a full refund after some reluctance from PrePaid Legal to do so. After finding an attorney (no, it wasn't difficult finding one who thought my case was viable), the settlement was for $29,500. I would not recommend LegalShield for any reason. I had PPL since 2010 until April 25, 2011, or so I thought. PPL has record in their system indicating that I called back on April 25, 2011 to initiate my cancellation. However, 22 months later, I receive an email from my bank stating that my balance had fallen below $25. I didn't see how this was possible due to the fact the account in which the bank emailed me about is an account I do not use at all. I put about $300 into the account and just let it sit there. I logged onto my online banking and it turns out I was getting charged by PPL every month since that phone call on April 25th, 2011! It added up to be $259.00 I was out because of PPL. I called the company and they went ahead and canceled again, and this time around I was told to look for an email that I would have to fax over to them to finish the process. I also was informed to write a request for a refund. I did all this on January 14, 2013, and today I called them back to see the status of the refund.

Well, I was informed that I was canceled this time and as far as the refund, it was declined and they would only offer a refund of less than one dollar! I couldn't believe it! I almost flipped bricks but I held my composure. I politely requested to speak to the manager. That's when I was told the same thing! This company is ridiculous. My argument is why in the world would I call a company 22 months ago to cancel, and then not complete the process? It makes no sense. PPL’s argument is that they sent me an email back in April 2011 for me to fill out, fax back, and thus completing the cancellation process. Well obviously, I do not want a company’s services if I'm taking the time out to call and say “hello, please cancel!”

I do not see why this company makes you jump through hoops just to cancel. It should be as simple as a quick phone call to cancel, not phone calls, emails, faxes, and then it's cancelled. It makes absolutely no sense. They just want your money and they will get it if you go and do business with this company. Please do not become a victim like myself. I'm active duty military; I know how to follow instructions/directions. I would have easily done so back in April 2011 had I known I was to be looking out for an email to fax back finalizing my cancellation process. But I never received it. Please, help yourselves and be smart with your money. Do not, I repeat, do not do business with these scam artists!

I called twice and emailed Legal Shield Member Services to cancel my membership, not now, but before the next billing cycle so that I wouldn't get charged again. They said they'd refund this month's charge but at this time, I cannot verify this because they said it'll take a few weeks.

Before I even graduated law school, a neighbor of my boss offered me some kind of weird job "selling Pre-Paid Legal." It sounded fishy, and I wasn't even a lawyer yet so I avoided it (and him) like the plague. However, after starting my own firm over 10 years later, I briefly registered as a PPL attorney.

After 15 years practicing law I can tell you a few things. Very busy and very successful lawyers will not sign on as a PPL lawyer. They can pay you (the attorney) as little as 1/5 of your usual rate. All PPL attorneys aren't scum. Some are very good but just starting their own practice. Law firms are paying worse and worse so there are always attorneys, even great ones, who leave and start their own practice and will sign on as a PPL attorney to get some cases to keep them busy.

The PPL administrative system is a mess. I tried to get myself removed from their list of available attorneys multiple times. 3 years later, I still get calls from PPL clients needing a lawyer! They either do not keep current lists, or they don't remove attorneys so their list looks longer. Result: This is why many of your calls go unanswered - the PPL attorneys are not PPL attorneys anymore! Most people will never need the legal services. Sure, we all need wills but keeping PPL for only wills is not financially smart. This is how PPL makes such great profits.

Google PPL. You will find that it operates as a type of pyramid reward system for its brokers. People become a broker, sell some polices but also get big rewards to recruit new brokers. Those who can sell and recruit are promoted to Speaker at the PPL seminars for other brokers. Speaker is what all brokers want to be. It's a big sales game. Lawyers build business by referrals. If I do a divorce for PPL client Mary and she's happy, sure she will refer me to her friend Joe. However, she will also tell Joe how little she paid, and how he should join PPL first so as not to pay me the normal divorce fee I'm worth. This is just another reason why lawyers hate PPL.

Think about it, a reputable firm would not have to depend on PPL to find them clients. Their attorneys are less than reputable like the company. Why would anyone spend $120 to have a will written up when you can do it for free with online software? They say call as often as you need but then refuse to take calls because you exceeded your attorney time. This company is for two-bit hoods that need someone to represent them in druggie court or petty crimes. This company is not for white-collar/blue-collar decent folks. The company in itself I think has a questionable reputation.

Some good advice and partial refund - Under the name of Prepaid Legal; I was dissatisfied in that I did not get any actual laws which supported their statements regarding my concerns. I did get some good advice, but once you talked to one attorney, they were no longer available. You can talk to one attorney and get a completely different reply from another. Basically, you would have to talk to several to get a good idea of what you need to do. In order for the information to be useful, it has to be verified by a written valid source of law which can be referenced. Only good lawyers, who specialize in that area, know the laws. You may or may not get this with prepaid legal.

The other annoying thing is they will call you right back. You either have to sit by the phone all day to get their call back or you will play call back indefinitely until you get fed up. It is a way of delaying service. They provided a partial refund as well to me. I paid a full year’s premium and I received about $65.00 back if I recall correctly. My mother has a small business plan and she seems to be satisfied with her service. She also pays one year premium. My advice to all is to stay away from the law itself. Do your own research, be responsible, be accountable and read things carefully yourself. Does it make sense, ask yourself.

Most importantly, do not allow anyone to have debit or direct withdrawal from your bank account. It is easy for any company to say, I didn't get your fax or impose written timely termination. This in itself is unethical and illegal. It is great for the company. It saves them a great deal of money, but anything to do with easy money makes criminals out of what ordinarily be honest people. By letting them do this, you yourself are encouraging their unethical behavior. Make them provide a service and then pay for it. They will change their payment policies if they are really interested in providing a service to you. Otherwise, it is just a front to get monthly automatic payments for nothing. It is thievery in a very concealed and what seems to be a humane service. It is not as many of you have experienced already with this firm.

Last but not least, a class action suit would serve this company well. But make sure it is by those who have obeyed the law in the first place. You can't accuse someone of breaking the law and mistreating you when you yourself have deliberately broken the law such as speeding, or being careless with your finances. The person who really deserves her money back is the one about her son being in this country. But she should have gone to immigration services and sought government help first before going to an attorney.

We called the same day to confirm if the info was received and they confirmed it was and our policy would be canceled. 3 weeks later, we were billed our monthly fee and upon calling again, they said they had never received our cancellation letter and had no way to verify we sent a cancellation letter, therefore, we would not be reimbursed our money! No one was checking my mail while I was gone. When I returned to the USA in June, I called to reinstate my membership and was told that I could either pay for the previous months that had not been paid "if" there were any legal issues that occurred during that time or I could just restart my membership at the current date which I elected to do.

I requested a cancellation of my service on 3/23/12. PPL sent me a cancellation form to fill out and you have to use fax (convenient for them to say they never received your fax), and I had my confirmation that the document and cover letter transmitted OK. PPL does have a "Gotcha" clause in the last paragraph of their cancellation that puts the onus on the person cancelling to call back and make sure they received your fax. I'm quite sure many people forget to call back and PPL keeps deducting away, raking in money after people have cancelled.

I would bet my right arm that this one clause makes PPL a lot of money as they seem to claim frequently that "we did not receive your fax". That way, they won't refund the following months' auto deductions from your bank account. They say "did you call in to see if we got your fax?" Something tells me it wouldn't matter if they did receive your fax, they will lie about it and tell you they did not receive it even though you have confirmation that fax transmitted properly. Scammy operation. If they saw your proof of original fax and the date, any "honest" company would know your intent was to cancel it on that date and refund all monies owed to someone. It reeks of scam.

I have been a member and also briefly sold the product. I have personally used the service and I have received outstanding service. Some of the comments I have read indicate to me that either these people were never members or did not take the time to read and understand how the program works. Pre-Paid Legal is not responsible for representing anyone. What they do is contract reputable law firms in the areas where they operate and if a member has a problem, he or she contacts the firm in their area and it is a lawyer from this firm that you deal with. Technically, you employ that firm and if you have a problem with a person or the firm, you can file a complaint to PPL to have them removed.

I had the so-called protection for 3 years and got a speeding ticket of 51 mph in a 35 mph zone. They told me that they could not handle it and I needed to retain one of their lawyers. Their fee was higher with the discount than me getting my own. I started searching online on how Pre-Paid Legal was reviewed and found it was reviewed 10-fold more as a get-rich internet business. I faxed it on 4/24/2012 and called to confirm. Today, I got a credit card statement with a charge on 5/26/12. I called and asked why. It took them 30 minutes to try to find my fax. Then, they asked me to fax again and said I had to fax to another fax number (and not to the one they sent me on cancellation letter). I asked for supervisor and she said my fax confirmation is just a proof that fax left my machine (very legal) and I had to call to confirm it, and denied that I did call them. I have been a member (not an associate or seller) of Legal Shield (Pre-Paid Legal) for about 10 years. I have used it for personal and business issues. Recently, a friend told me they were presented with Legal Shield at work and after what he said was a professional presentation, he signed up. Most of the employees signed up. He then told me that somebody at work went online and found negative press and everybody dropped it, saying it was a scam. I tried to explain to him how I use the product, and he reconsidered and kept the service. That is why I am writing this message. I went online and read some of the negative press and in most cases, these reviews are simply not accurate.

    I will say this, if you don't understand the rules of how to enter a case when you call your provider firm (the law firm assigned to you), it can be frustrating at first. So read your instructions and know what it is you are asking when you call. Not to get into all the details, but here is a brief summary of some the things Legal Shield (Pre-Paid Legal) has helped me with: 1) MSN (Microsoft) was charging me $39.95 a month for several months for a service I tried and cancelled before the trial period ended. After not being able to get a human at Microsoft to assist and no letter was answered, I called my Legal Shield attorney, faxed them the list of charges, and explained what happened. I got a full refund check from Microsoft. This was because when a lawyer sends a letter, it goes to a company's legal department. It must be dealt with;

    2) I had an offer for a business deal that I had Pre-Paid review (no extra charges). The attorney who specializes in the topic found several areas that did not serve my interests. Those areas were revised and the contract was fairer; and 3) I was getting some conflicting information from my local labor department that did not match what I was being told by NYS labor board. It was jeopardizing my company's information that was on file with NYS. I finally called Legal Shield, placed a new case, and got a call back from a labor attorney within two hours. He gave the phone number to the Commissioner's office at the NYS department and he told me what to say. The issue was resolved within 10 minutes of making the phone call.

So this was just three varied topics I have used Legal Shield (Pre-Paid Legal) for. I have used the included services in my membership most every month, or so, to ask legal advice, have a contract reviewed, find out what to do about a bill that I can't get fixed, update my family's wills. It is like having an attorney (who practices in every field of law) in my circle. Also, the thing that my friend was really sold on was that fact that when I do need to see a physical attorney, my NYC law firm refers me to a local firm here in my town (Buffalo). I now have a good relationship with that firm, too. This service is very good for middle Americans. It levels the playing field.

They finally got around to stopping the withdrawals but absolutely refused to reimburse me, even when I showed them proof that my membership was no longer active.

When I enrolled with Prepaid Legal Services Inc. a couple of years ago, not all the attorneys returned calls within a reasonable time, and if I needed a letter, most of the attorneys were more willing to give their opinion over the phone, than to try to help with a phone call or a letter. One time, I was referred to another attorney (not the usual law firm), to write a letter on my behalf, but that attorney was so rude. The first time I called her office, I was just starting to talk about the reason for the letter, and she put me on hold for about 20 minutes, and never returned to take my call. I called back to find out she was with a client. It took that attorney two hours to return my call, only after I called PPL to complain.

I was left on the phone on hold, and the attorney was seeing another client. The attorney sent me a draft for my review before the letter was mailed, after a few corrections were made, the attorney did not bother to send me my finalized file copy. It took several weeks of reminders that I needed my file copy, and the attorney was not being responsive. I called PPL to ask that they get me my file copy, but all I was told by PPL was that, they have asked, but there was nothing else PPL could do. When I called The Florida Bar, the attorney sent me my file copy within five minutes of The Florida Bar's call. PPL terminated my membership. PPL did not want to give any reason for the termination of my membership, even though they were getting paid on time every month. A year later, I tried to enroll with PPL again, and I was rejected again.

I've owned a Pre-Paid legal Services FAMILY legal membership for over 25 years. There are many members who fell in love with the service and then start offering the memberships and help others make money offering the memberships. As a single dad raising 3 children, and enrolling families in insurance, my time was very filled. About 1998, I became a director level independent associate.

My main point is that I used and HIGHLY recommended the service for many years before I started offering the service as an associate. There are many families who have other family members on their team. Since your dad sent you a check to join, give it a try. I will not make a penny by suggesting that you join as a member and maybe later or at the same time, as an associate on your dad's team.

I'd suggest that you first watch the "Justice For All" TV videos that were shown on CourtTV and True TV, and watch the Lifestyles video collection that shows how Pre-paid Legal Services can LEGALLY and FINANCIALLY empower your family and the families of those who you enroll. You are wise to CAREFULLY check out a business opportunity, because many pyramid schemes disguise themselves as MLM's or network marketing companies. There is a short 2 page pdf on the Consumer Protection web page of the UTAH Attorney general that will give you some good insight.

In a pyramid scheme, those at the top will ALWAYS make more money than you. In a real business like Pre-Paid Legal Services, you can make much more money than those in your upline. If PPLSI was a pyramid scheme, then they would not have over 1.5 MILLION members, be publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange, a solid track record of over 37 years, and a 177,000 PLUS square foot home office that is on an 87-acre campus. PPLSI has around 1,000 paid staff to serve members and associates. They are the largest employer in Ada and Antlers, Oklahoma. They also have a call center in Duncan, OK.

If the value of the services were not a greater value and a solid service, then the insurance commissioners and attorney general consumer protection agencies would be working to shut them down. We have many lawyers and even current and former attorney generals who own our memberships to protect their families. Current attorney generals cannot endorse a product, due to possible conflicts of interests. You'll see on the "Justice For All" DVD former state attorney generals who endorse PPLSI. The Former President of the American Bar Association endorses PPLSI. The current Presidents of the US Chamber of Commerce and the US Black Chamber of Commerce both highly endorse PPLSI on that DVD.

However, when we have our annual international convention each year, usually in Oklahoma city in March, then we usually have the Oklahoma governor, insurance commissioner, and attorney general speak praises of PPLSI. If PPLSI was a scam, them people would run for the back door if they knew anyone from the attorney general's office was listening to what they are saying. Scams operate in as much secrecy from government agencies as possible. As a publicly-traded company, anyone can see all about PPLSI and they are checked out frequently by the SEC and large investment firms.

The research departments and experts from highly respected magazines like Money, Forbes, Fortune, Equities, etc. have checked out and written many articles about PPLSI. You probably know many people who have joined a health club and only gone a few times, or only the one-time when they signed up. These people did NOT lose weight and get in better shape or health. About 80 to 100% of them QUIT in the first 1 to 5 years. Why? Because the gym or health club was a total scam. Imagine only those who worked really hard by exercising and dieting on a regular basis, lost weight and got in better shape.

The same thing happens with those who joined PPLSI as members or associates. If they do NOT use the service and follow the advice of lawyers, then they will QUIT what they do not use, unless they realize that it can be very valuable like a spare tire for your car, a smoke alarm, and a fire extinguisher. It's not the fault of the gym or PPLSI that those who joined do not use it. Everyone needs a will and the national average cost for a will according to Money Magazine is over $500 each. For a couple, that means that each just getting a will, living will, and medical power of attorney can save them over $1,000 !!!

It's a marketing scam that some MLM'ers use to get you to join their MLM. They bad mouth many MLM companies and say they will make you a millionaire if you join their MLM. They might say that they tried the MLM that they are bad mouthing, but many times they never signed up. Short stock sellers and their accomplices will write bad articles to profit by their scam articles. The legal protection like insurance can save you the most money and protect you the most, if you enroll before you plan to use it. Having a defense against moving traffic tickets, civil lawsuits and certain job related criminal charges and IRS personal tax audits can be a life saver, literally!

The Identity Theft Shield is vital today and available in all 50 states. The 24/7 legal shield is available in most states. The family legal plan is NOT available at this time in Alaska. That way, you can get information from a (Creditable) third party who will not financially gain from you getting a PPLSI membership or joining your dad's PPLSI team.

Maybe, Pre-Paid Legal should be a little more careful who they let represent them. As far as the cancellation issues go, typical. That's why I don't have a cell phone contract, a gym membership or anything that requires automatic deductions. My experience has always been that once they are in your pocket, that's where they stay. It’s like an act of congress to get those automatic deductions to stop regardless of who it is: the gym, cell phone company and apparently, Pre-Paid Legal.

I paid for the prepaid legal services for 7 years and used it for one beneficial service in updating my will. I attempted to use the services three times for covered matters and had extremely unprofessional treatment. The attorney wrote letters that had the facts all mixed up. When I attempted to have them write a second time with the facts corrected, they still could not get things straight. On another occasion, I submitted a contract for commission income that was not as an employee for their review. I was given incorrect advice regarding tax matters that I was fortunate to determine was not correct and able to avoid paying a lot more in taxes by ignoring their advice.

Finally, I had a moving traffic violation and the attorney could not even make a call to the court officials to negotiate in my behalf. They said they could not get an answer when they called even though every time we called someone answered immediately. I am extremely disappointed that I paid in advance for services that when I needed them I got nothing in return. I am sure some people get what they want, but after three attempts I am done.

Basically, the prepaid legal takes your money for representing you then when you need them they come up with all sorts of paragraphs in the contract for not doing so. In other words they are a lawyer referral service that you pay every month for doing nothing in my opinion they are a scam.

I hired Glantz and Glantz through prepaid legal to take on a construction lawsuit last year this time. It's now 1 year later and I still have no results, just constant billing for an attorney to keep reading the paperwork over and over again when the case is clear cut and dry. I hired an attorney because American Arbitrators stated I had to because the contract stated I must use them. I gave the attorney all the information in chronological of events as well as checks, statements, and etc. I have paid over $10,000 plus the American Arbitrators fees and still have no results. Paying the fees to my attorney is really putting further into a financial bind because he's not making every effort to finish the case, but clearly to drag it on for money.

I've had a Prepaid Legal Services plan for a couple of years as well as the Identity Theft Protection. I did a fair amount of research before I signed on with this plan. One of the first things I realized was that there are a lot of prepaid legal companies out there and these criticisms are so vague. It could be one of many companies which would then be many different qualities of law firms. I pay $17 a month for 24/7 access to an attorney anywhere in the US, if the need arises and it has - out of state and within. I'm talking about the PPLSI out of Ada, OK. One time, I called with a problem with a firm and it was taken care of immediately. I've been to the attorney firm's open house, seen their quality control system through the ADA system. I've had letters written, money returned, bills corrected, etc.

I can't speak for every law firm that represents clients of PPLSI but these few complaints out of all the applications, wills, tickets, unlawful charge claims, assistance with wills from out of state and on and on, in the whole United States for $17 a month, legal forms and any legal questions. I don't think you can beat it and these criticisms are so vague and so few. When you consider the 1.5 million families that are served and over 2.8 million member phone calls last year alone, you just can't beat it.

I got Pre-Paid Legal because I needed help collecting from deadbeat clients. Pre-Paid is a deadbeat program, the attorneys are flunkies and they give vanilla answers. They are a waste of money. The head of the KY Pre-Paid firm broke the attorney/client confidentiality by informing me what another Pre-Paid client said about me in the email then the crook billed me for reading the email. The bill was $700. I complained to Pre-Paid, but they did nothing. This is typical. I have put up with rude behavior from some attorneys as well. I would recommend that you stay away from this service. I wish we could file a class action against them.

Typical in America, they put a good sales pitch but don't deliver. A former friend had a Pre-Paid attorney represent him against a ** and crooked contractor and the jury couldn't even hear him. The attorney was unprepared and had paperwork falling out on the floor. Top attorneys? I don't think so.

My wife was approached by a friend to join and to sell Pre-Paid Legal. We did so, and as it happened, I was in a situation where I was attacked and injured by my former employer. I called Pre-Paid Legal for help and got totally screwed up. The attorney did not listen to the entire story. She did not give me any advice as to the attack. The advice she did give me was to press the wrong charges against the company with the wrong office. Thanks To Pre-Paid Legal I am out at least $40,000 in damages. The lawyer also had me waste my time in pursuing an unemployment claim that I was obviously not entitled to, but I did so because she was the lawyer. The capper was the Identity Shield "protection".

A hacker got right past Prepaid Legal's identity shield and took the last $135 out of my account. Just to rub salt in the wounds, the said hacker also got my cell phone number and tried to scam me out of another bank card number. My bank, not Identity Shield, recovered the money, but not before Pre-Paid Legal bounced a check on me.

I tried to cancel my "service" last February 2010. Pre-Paid legal continues to ignore my cancellation. So far I have lost $120 from a compromised bank account. I have contacted the corporate office, I have contacted Ms. ** who claims that she cannot cancel my account. I do not believe her. All in all, Pre-Paid Legal is a totally useless service. It does not do anything that the advertisements promise. I have done my due diligence after the fact, and discovered the Fitzgerald Reports on the company. I feel as if my money has been deliberately stolen and I am willing to do whatever is legal and reasonable to recover all monies lost to this scam.

I explained that I was in the middle of a lawsuit involving Capital One Bank Mastercard.

I am on a fixed income and receive disability. I haven't used the card for two years, bankruptcy discharged Nov '07. The "specialist" of that Titanic was Harold C, "Esq". I signed up on Jan 25, 2010 with a Hina ** who worked for Pre-Paid Legal Services at Ada, Oklahoma. She told me I only had to pay $10.00 for the registration and a monthly fee of $26.00 for all legal services. There was no other charges at all. When I called the Customer Service of Pre-Paid Legal 2 days later to check on my membership, I was shocked to hear that there was actually a regular lawyer's fee (hourly and retainer), but with a 20% discount on top of the $26.00 monthly fee charged.

I decided to cancel my membership as I knew I could get my own more experienced lawyer without this legal help who would charge a same or less fee. What made it more frustrating and maddening was that after having cancelled my membership 2 weeks ago, I still haven't received my refund of $26.00 as of today (the $10.00 was gone).

When I called up again today, on Feb 19, 2010, I was told by a Heidi that no one had submitted my request for refund when they received my cancellation form on Feb 3, 2010! Looks like I have to keep calling their Customer Service to ask about my miserable $26.00 refund! How does this so-called Prepaid 'legal' services work? Who would or could trust this company? I wonder if this is how they run their business, by misleading potential customers to sign up and then not refunding their money?

I needed a lawyer for my case and I was looking up for legal services/help and ended up with this instead of getting the help that I needed! I had wasted so much time with this Pre-Paid Legal Services in Ada, Oklahoma. This has been a very, very bad experience and may also have a damaging impact on all other legal services companies. I would not go for such legal services again.

I signed up for Prepaid Legal Service over 2 years ago. I was assigned to a group of attorneys in Atlanta. I had phone conversations with a "professional" attorney. I have not had any success in the 2 cases I have requested. It is a waste of time and my money! I pay Prepaid Legal $26.00 every month and for what? Prepaid did give me the name of an attorney that was in my local area. He was willing to listen but he got scared off when the insurance company told him in writing that they were not liable. He contacted me and told me there was nothing he could do, but if I paid him $5,000 he would take it to court and I might not get but $2,000 if that much.

This is a bunch of bologna! What good is Prepaid Legal if all the attorney wants is $5,000 upfront as a retainer? I can save my $26.00 a month. Prepaid hasn't worked for me. I have contacted them on several occasions and explained to them about their attorney referral. They seem unconcerned. As long as they get your money every month, they don't care what the attorneys do. I think this is a ripoff.

You get what you pay for and that was reiterated to me from my experience with Prepaid Legal. I found out right after my wedding that my fiance had lied about his finances, that he had stolen from me, and that he owed back taxes for several years, etc. I called Prepaid Legal (Deming, Parker is their provider firm in Atlanta) and was told by their attorney that I had no grounds for an annulment because the marriage had been consummated, and they told me that I would need to file for divorce in the state the jerk lived in since he would be the defendant. I told the attorney I called that in my research of the GA law (I live in GA), it appeared I had several grounds for an annulment and that I could file in GA since I am a resident of GA. He again said that I'd need to call an attorney in MS and file for a divorce.

Instead, I called an attorney in Atlanta familiar with annulments and the court granted one to me just a couple of months after my experience with Prepaid Legal. Thank God I called another attorney. It ended up costing me a couple thousand dollars, but it would have cost a lot more than that had I taken Prepaid Legal’s advice. You cannot get expert legal advice for $20 a month. You get an attorney fresh out of law school that doesn't really know what he is doing. The one I talked to for certain have no experience with annulments and was even wrong about what state I should file in. Save your money and when you need an attorney, call a real attorney that has experience in the area of law that you need. You get what you pay for.

Because I received completely incorrect advice from a Prepaid Legal attorney, I asked that my membership be cancelled and that all money I had paid to them be refunded. They told me to write a letter, which I did. Heck, I can even show them my annulment papers to prove just how incorrect they were! However, they replied saying that membership fees are not refundable. That was a rip-off and a total waste of money. Save your money!

Now who is going to spend $300 an hour on an issue worth $100? Pre-Paid Legal did! That's who! Attorneys bill in 15 min increments with an average national price of $300/hr = $75 for 15 minutes.
