I was told that if I joined, they would take care of my child support problem. So I joined, and the attorney that I was given just threw the stuff back in my lap and would not even offer to look at the paperwork. I wanted to know if I was paying too much. I felt taken advantage of that's why I am so upset.

I have been thinking about joining Pre-Paid Legal as a consultant for years. I have been doing my due diligence and noticed all these complaints. I work for lawyers and know that they do not work for $26.00 per month. You are paying for access and a free consultation but not for representation. A lot of cases have no merit and like anything, there are good lawyers and bad.
I am just happy to note that most of you are savvy enough to know a good lawyer from a bad one. The complaint seems to me, isn’t with the service but with the lawyer. Maybe, Pre-Paid Legal should be a little more careful who they let represent them. As far as the cancellation issues go, typical. That's why I don't have a cell phone contract, a gym membership or anything that requires automatic deductions. My experience has always been that once they are in your pocket, that's where they stay. It’s like an act of congress to get those automatic deductions to stop regardless of who it is: the gym, cell phone company and apparently, Pre-Paid Legal.

I paid for the prepaid legal services for 7 years and used it for one beneficial service in updating my will. I attempted to use the services three times for covered matters and had extremely unprofessional treatment. The attorney wrote letters that had the facts all mixed up. When I attempted to have them write a second time with the facts corrected, they still could not get things straight. On another occasion, I submitted a contract for commission income that was not as an employee for their review. I was given incorrect advice regarding tax matters that I was fortunate to determine was not correct and able to avoid paying a lot more in taxes by ignoring their advice.
Finally, I had a moving traffic violation and the attorney could not even make a call to the court officials to negotiate in my behalf. They said they could not get an answer when they called even though every time we called someone answered immediately. I am extremely disappointed that I paid in advance for services that when I needed them I got nothing in return. I am sure some people get what they want, but after three attempts I am done.

I have been using PPL for 6 years, and have had no problems. They have saved me thousands of dollars and most of all have given me peace of mind (priceless). Sometimes they tell me I have no case or to forget my pursuit of a company, I don't like that much but they know about law more than I do.

My bank charged me over $200 in fees for overdraft while I had more than adequate funds, when I contacted the lawyers at prepaid legal they said I should contact the banking commission they would not write a letter. Basically, the prepaid legal takes your money for representing you then when you need them they come up with all sorts of paragraphs in the contract for not doing so. In other words they are a lawyer referral service that you pay every month for doing nothing in my opinion they are a scam.

I hired Glantz and Glantz through prepaid legal to take on a construction lawsuit last year this time. It's now 1 year later and I still have no results, just constant billing for an attorney to keep reading the paperwork over and over again when the case is clear cut and dry. I hired an attorney because American Arbitrators stated I had to because the contract stated I must use them. I gave the attorney all the information in chronological of events as well as checks, statements, and etc. I have paid over $10,000 plus the American Arbitrators fees and still have no results. Paying the fees to my attorney is really putting further into a financial bind because he's not making every effort to finish the case, but clearly to drag it on for money.

I've had a Prepaid Legal Services plan for a couple of years as well as the Identity Theft Protection. I did a fair amount of research before I signed on with this plan. One of the first things I realized was that there are a lot of prepaid legal companies out there and these criticisms are so vague. It could be one of many companies which would then be many different qualities of law firms. I pay $17 a month for 24/7 access to an attorney anywhere in the US, if the need arises and it has - out of state and within. I'm talking about the PPLSI out of Ada, OK. One time, I called with a problem with a firm and it was taken care of immediately. I've been to the attorney firm's open house, seen their quality control system through the ADA system. I've had letters written, money returned, bills corrected, etc.
I can't speak for every law firm that represents clients of PPLSI but these few complaints out of all the applications, wills, tickets, unlawful charge claims, assistance with wills from out of state and on and on, in the whole United States for $17 a month, legal forms and any legal questions. I don't think you can beat it and these criticisms are so vague and so few. When you consider the 1.5 million families that are served and over 2.8 million member phone calls last year alone, you just can't beat it.

I got Pre-Paid Legal because I needed help collecting from deadbeat clients. Pre-Paid is a deadbeat program, the attorneys are flunkies and they give vanilla answers. They are a waste of money. The head of the KY Pre-Paid firm broke the attorney/client confidentiality by informing me what another Pre-Paid client said about me in the email then the crook billed me for reading the email. The bill was $700. I complained to Pre-Paid, but they did nothing. This is typical. I have put up with rude behavior from some attorneys as well. I would recommend that you stay away from this service. I wish we could file a class action against them.
Typical in America, they put a good sales pitch but don't deliver. A former friend had a Pre-Paid attorney represent him against a ** and crooked contractor and the jury couldn't even hear him. The attorney was unprepared and had paperwork falling out on the floor. Top attorneys? I don't think so.

I have been attempting for approximately a month to cancel our membership in Pre-Paid Legal. I have phoned and sent emails on numerous occasions requesting the paperwork to cancel this membership. In fact, after one such call, I received a packet for a "new" membership. I have been repeatedly told that my request is being forwarded to the appropriate department. However, I have never received any paperwork. Time spent calling and emailing. Frustration at the fact that they are more than glad to take your money, but you are completely ignored when you want to cancel. I just want this membership cancelled and I want them to stop debiting my bank account.

I have been a member of Prepaid Legal for more than 10years. My plan is for self-employed and I have been paying $ 49 for more than 10 years. When I informed them that I was sued by other party, attorney told me that my case had no merit, refused to help me by pretext that I had an attorney. After the letter from my attorney that she did not represent me, he asked me the proof of ownership of the company. I gave full proof about ownership. I had a time limit of 48 hours to respond to the lawsuit. He deserted me and told me that he can give referral only. Like a crook, he double crossed me and ruined us.
It is like you are at the operation table and the doctor informed that your policy has been cancelled and find another doctor and insurance co. They are good till you do not have problems, When there is a problem, they are not for you and tell you to go to hell.

Somebody offered me the service last year in September, so I enjoyed it. Anyway, I thought I was going to need it, but when I called them to ask what I should do in a divorce situation, it was going to cost me 3 times more than going to a lawyer in town. So I said to myself: If it doesn’t work for me, how I can sell something like that? And I cancelled, but till now they are still charging my credit card. I called so many times and the person who took my number card by phone (Jay), he said that he has nothing to do with it, and that I have to call to other number, but it’s a stupid machine. They didn't charge it for a month and now I check my balance, and again!

My wife was approached by a friend to join and to sell Pre-Paid Legal. We did so, and as it happened, I was in a situation where I was attacked and injured by my former employer. I called Pre-Paid Legal for help and got totally screwed up. The attorney did not listen to the entire story. She did not give me any advice as to the attack. The advice she did give me was to press the wrong charges against the company with the wrong office. Thanks To Pre-Paid Legal I am out at least $40,000 in damages. The lawyer also had me waste my time in pursuing an unemployment claim that I was obviously not entitled to, but I did so because she was the lawyer. The capper was the Identity Shield "protection".
A hacker got right past Prepaid Legal's identity shield and took the last $135 out of my account. Just to rub salt in the wounds, the said hacker also got my cell phone number and tried to scam me out of another bank card number. My bank, not Identity Shield, recovered the money, but not before Pre-Paid Legal bounced a check on me.
I tried to cancel my "service" last February 2010. Pre-Paid legal continues to ignore my cancellation. So far I have lost $120 from a compromised bank account. I have contacted the corporate office, I have contacted Ms. ** who claims that she cannot cancel my account. I do not believe her. All in all, Pre-Paid Legal is a totally useless service. It does not do anything that the advertisements promise. I have done my due diligence after the fact, and discovered the Fitzgerald Reports on the company. I feel as if my money has been deliberately stolen and I am willing to do whatever is legal and reasonable to recover all monies lost to this scam.

I'm married to a man who is bipolar. He is the main person on the PrePaid Legal account. One day he was mad at me and without my knowledge, he removed me from Prepaid Legal. I'm back on after he's sorry, but my thing is, am I a second class citizen? Am I to be treated like a child? Later Prepaid Legal asked for our marriage license. Now I'm wondering if they did something illegal. Otherwise, they have been great. But, now I don't trust them. I was unable to process a claim for $88 that is owed to me through another company that stole money from my account.

I needed legal advice and representation and I googled for information and first page at the top (good position), "Find a lawyer...unlimited access blah blah get to a less than pedestrian site, rudimentary at best." After the fact I know now to look for disclosure and privacy statements. Big red flag if there's no contact info. I received a call from an associate of Prepaid Legal Services, Inc., Robert ***. I explained that I was in the middle of a lawsuit involving Capital One Bank Mastercard.
I am on a fixed income and receive disability. I haven't used the card for two years, bankruptcy discharged Nov '07. The "specialist" of that Titanic was Harold C, "Esq". I was concerned about garnishment. Vincent said people specialized in that took my card number and other info stupidly. I gave him SSI#, no email confirmation, no members benefit package in mail, no follow up phone call. I had to chase him down to get a lawyer's #, Miles and Davis of Phoenix (wouldn't recommend them to represent a corpse).
The lawyer, probably in the basement otherwise known as the "Prepaid Legal Services Department" informs me immediately because I only had a time limit of six minutes. They couldn't help. I needed a $200 consultation. Multiple charges against my bank account have occurred. Customer service informs me I don't get the first $10. What about the second and the third? I have to go to the bank now to close my account. Please research companies. Check complaints. Here's still believing in integrity.

I signed up on Jan 25, 2010 with a Hina ** who worked for Pre-Paid Legal Services at Ada, Oklahoma. She told me I only had to pay $10.00 for the registration and a monthly fee of $26.00 for all legal services. There was no other charges at all. When I called the Customer Service of Pre-Paid Legal 2 days later to check on my membership, I was shocked to hear that there was actually a regular lawyer's fee (hourly and retainer), but with a 20% discount on top of the $26.00 monthly fee charged.
I decided to cancel my membership as I knew I could get my own more experienced lawyer without this legal help who would charge a same or less fee. What made it more frustrating and maddening was that after having cancelled my membership 2 weeks ago, I still haven't received my refund of $26.00 as of today (the $10.00 was gone).
When I called up again today, on Feb 19, 2010, I was told by a Heidi that no one had submitted my request for refund when they received my cancellation form on Feb 3, 2010! Looks like I have to keep calling their Customer Service to ask about my miserable $26.00 refund! How does this so-called Prepaid 'legal' services work? Who would or could trust this company? I wonder if this is how they run their business, by misleading potential customers to sign up and then not refunding their money?
I needed a lawyer for my case and I was looking up for legal services/help and ended up with this instead of getting the help that I needed! I had wasted so much time with this Pre-Paid Legal Services in Ada, Oklahoma. This has been a very, very bad experience and may also have a damaging impact on all other legal services companies. I would not go for such legal services again.

I signed up for Prepaid Legal Service over 2 years ago. I was assigned to a group of attorneys in Atlanta. I had phone conversations with a "professional" attorney. I have not had any success in the 2 cases I have requested. It is a waste of time and my money! I pay Prepaid Legal $26.00 every month and for what? Prepaid did give me the name of an attorney that was in my local area. He was willing to listen but he got scared off when the insurance company told him in writing that they were not liable. He contacted me and told me there was nothing he could do, but if I paid him $5,000 he would take it to court and I might not get but $2,000 if that much.
This is a bunch of bologna! What good is Prepaid Legal if all the attorney wants is $5,000 upfront as a retainer? I can save my $26.00 a month. Prepaid hasn't worked for me. I have contacted them on several occasions and explained to them about their attorney referral. They seem unconcerned. As long as they get your money every month, they don't care what the attorneys do. I think this is a ripoff.

You get what you pay for and that was reiterated to me from my experience with Prepaid Legal. I found out right after my wedding that my fiance had lied about his finances, that he had stolen from me, and that he owed back taxes for several years, etc. I called Prepaid Legal (Deming, Parker is their provider firm in Atlanta) and was told by their attorney that I had no grounds for an annulment because the marriage had been consummated, and they told me that I would need to file for divorce in the state the jerk lived in since he would be the defendant. I told the attorney I called that in my research of the GA law (I live in GA), it appeared I had several grounds for an annulment and that I could file in GA since I am a resident of GA. He again said that I'd need to call an attorney in MS and file for a divorce.
Instead, I called an attorney in Atlanta familiar with annulments and the court granted one to me just a couple of months after my experience with Prepaid Legal. Thank God I called another attorney. It ended up costing me a couple thousand dollars, but it would have cost a lot more than that had I taken Prepaid Legal’s advice. You cannot get expert legal advice for $20 a month. You get an attorney fresh out of law school that doesn't really know what he is doing. The one I talked to for certain have no experience with annulments and was even wrong about what state I should file in. Save your money and when you need an attorney, call a real attorney that has experience in the area of law that you need. You get what you pay for.
Because I received completely incorrect advice from a Prepaid Legal attorney, I asked that my membership be cancelled and that all money I had paid to them be refunded. They told me to write a letter, which I did. Heck, I can even show them my annulment papers to prove just how incorrect they were! However, they replied saying that membership fees are not refundable. That was a rip-off and a total waste of money. Save your money!

I used Pre-Paid Legal at least a dozen times in 4 years and always with excellent results. They have given great advice on multiple legal matters, took on one of the largest electronic stores in the US, all to get me back a lousy $100. Now who is going to spend $300 an hour on an issue worth $100? Pre-Paid Legal did! That's who! Attorneys bill in 15 min increments with an average national price of $300/hr = $75 for 15 minutes. My membership costs $36/months. That's over 2 months of great legal service. This is a no brainer! Complaints are usually from people who expect everything for nothing or don't know how to communicate. So sad.

I canceled membership in February 2009. They stopped taking payment from my account. However, they restarted taking money from my checking account. I did not check my account because I canceled it with a person and not a machine. The company said I did not return a fax they send to finish the process. I never got a fax from them. Again, I spoke with a person who told me she would handle the cancelation and nothing else had to be done in February. This is not good business practice. I purchased a $249 Fast Start program to Prepaid Legal Services last September 10, 2009. I called them back to cancel my account and asked for refund. That was September 14 2009. They told me that I will have my refund after I send the package they sent me. On September 15, 2009, I blocked the debit card that I used purchasing their product. It was late when I realized that I am expecting a refund from Prepaid Legal to that account. So I called Prepaid Legal to request to make my refund deposited in my checking account and they said they cannot do that. They can only send the refund back in my debit card that I already blocked. They said it's in their policy. So I called the bank if I could cancel my request. But they said once I block my existing account, I cannot make it activate again. That left me no choice. So right now, I don't know how I could possibly get my refund back. I just can't believe that the one I'm planning to get involved with (Prepaid Legal) was the one who doesn't comply in our law! Is there somebody there who knows or can help me with this matter? I think Prepaid Legal should be out of business!

When I signed up for PPL, I asked if they had attorneys here - and they said yes! So here I am - went to court once - still don't have daughter and I am waiting for another court date! She has been awarded her own attorney. The reason her dad is doing this is because he is malicious, a liar and is ticked about the cs, which I did not pursue - it has been the same for 10 yrs. But not to worry, I would be reimbursed if that was the case. I both faxed and scanned/emailed the signed cancellation letter back that day. Pre-Paid Legal continued to make the automatic deductions for March and April.
I called again on April 13 to complain, only to be told that my cancellation letter was never received - that I was supposed to call them back to confirm that they received the letter and therefore it was not honored. I still do not have a copy of the cancellation confirmation, but do have a copy of the letter I faxed/emailed dated January 30, 2009. I was told that the 3 months' charges stand. It seems every complainer is making a mountain out of a mole hole, as the solution is very simple. If they wish to discontinue a bank draft for services from any company, all they need to do is the following and charges will cease: 1) Write a letter to the company you wish to discontinue drafting from your checking, savings, or credit card account. 2) Make copy of this letter and send to customer service where you hold the checking, savings, or credit card account along with a letter request to stop allowing funds to be withdrawn or charged from the company you want to stop payments to.

On October 15th, 2008 I met with Ravis ** in Jackson, Mississippi. After talking with her in several occasions in reference to becoming an associate for prepaid legal, I explained to Miss ** that I was not interested in becoming a Prepaid Legal insurance customer because I was a paralegal and I could represent myself in most matters. Miss ** told me that it was a formality to join the legal insurance membership in order to become an associate for Prepaid Legal. I explained to Ravis ** that I would not consider the membership without first becoming an associate first. Miss ** misrepresented the Prepaid Legal company by telling me that she only need basic bank information and that I would not be charged for the legal insurance membership until I first became a Prepaid associate, and that she could go online that night and set up my Prepaid membership and that I could start making money that night.
The next day she called me and told me in order for me to become an associate I would have to further fill out background information, in which I told her that I felt that she was not being honest with me and that I was no longer interested in dealing with Prepaid Legal on any terms. Several weeks later I learned that Ravis ** had ignored my request to not be considered for membership or for Prepaid Legal insurance membership and I was sent a Legal Prepaid insurance packet and was notified that my bank account would be charged every month for the $39.95 which I did not authorize her to do. This is outright fraud and misrepresentation of material facts in relation to the Prepaid Legal associate's membership.

I became a member of Pre-Paid Legal in 2006. I started having problems right away with them taking the money out of my account ahead of the scheduled time. That money was refunded to me and I didn't have any future problems with that. In April, 2007, I received a letter by the sheriff stating I owed for a credit card. I informed the sheriff at the time that there was some mix up but he said to just go to the court and file a written response. I did this and contacted my assigned attorney's office. I faxed the paper work to them and they wrote a letter for me to the attorney trying to collect. I continued to get letters from the collection attorney and EVERY time I got something I faxed it to attorney Jamie **. She told me that the collection attorney couldn't legally go any further because they had not produce the necessary forms showing proof that this was my debt.
In October 2007, I received a letter stating my wages were going to be garnished. I contacted the attorney's office again and this time was told by Kevin ** that she was not qualified to handle my case and I should have sent in a response to all of the paperwork that had been faxed to her. I am a parent of 3 children. I need my full pay check. The purpose of getting this service was to direct me in the right direction. I could have messed this up on my own. And to think, I was actually paying for this service. I submitted a complaint to Pre-paid legal and was contacted by Cody **. I asked him why I wasn't notified by Experian that this was placed on my credit report in July 2007. I was also paying for this service too. He tried to deny it but I had proof because I had a copy of it.
I looked up the correct person that this account belonged to. We have the same name only and I have never lived where she lives or lived when this credit card was opened. I was later transferred to Charles **. He seemed like he was going to help clear up this matter in the beginning. He made a lot of promises to call me back after I faxed this and after I faxed that but that was a bunch of hog wash too. I last spoke with Mr.** on Sept. 5, 2008. I was instructed to fax papers to him again and promised to call me back after reviewing them with another attorney. I received a continuation of garnishment and tried to contact Mr. ** again on Oct. 1, 2008. He has yet to return my call.

I spoke with a customer person on 9/5/08 and received a bogus facx number (800-811-4543). They stated that the Bank has to send them verification that they took the monies - even though they did in fact confirm that they indeed did not and will not cancel this membership and CONFIRMED they were taking our monies illegally. After attempting to use the bogus number I then emailed them at the email address THEY provided. I contacted them on 9/11/08. I asked for their other 800 fax number and was refused. I was then told that the original above number was bogus and then provided another number (which is a toll number). I asked to speak to someone in that department-she stated there was no one in that department and I would not be allowed to speak to anyone. On 8/19/08 they did in fact send us a letter saying that they were having difficulties accessing our account (we filed a claim at the bank against them) and wanted us to sign the document to keep our membership going. I told them we cancelled it over 11 months ago!

They took my money and did nothing for my landlord/tenant case. I now have to hire a private attorney to handle my landlord/tenant issues. Back in April they were supposed to handle legal issues I had with my son's SSI and they messed that up big time. It took 6 telephone calls to the attorney resolution department to fix. The secretary that was supposed to help me was rude and very ignorant. You would not expect that from a law firm!
Now here it is August and I had an issue with my landlord. You would think Prepaid Legal would have issued a letter on my behalf to my landlord. No they did not. Just issued me a letter notifying me of my rights as a tenant. Now the issue has been escalated and I now have to pay out of my pocket for something Prepaid Legal should have handled in the first place. I am not satisfied with their services nor am I happy with the way they handle their mistakes. A full refund should be issued to me for services poorly rendered.
I stopped paying them and they finally cancelled my membership! I am glad because I'm really tired of dealing with being on the telephone for 20 to 30 minutes to complain to Attorney Resolution about problems I've had with them. Even when you call Attorney Resolution--ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS DONE!
Financially they owe me for all the months they charged me for services poorly rendered. The last straw was when they claimed they mailed me a cancellation invoice and I NEVER RECEIVED IT! They also told me that because I owed a balance that I could not talk to an attorney about my landlord/tenant issues.

Had prepaid legal provided me with the correct advice (according to the US Dept of Labor) to retroactively increase her hourly rate, I would have avoided a $6000 claim.
