Working with them has been a complete disaster so far. We are trying to file for an LLC, even went as far to purchase their “Gold Package” in an attempt to get it quicker. We did this on the 29th of last month, today is the 20th and they have yet to even send our papers to the state for filing yet. We have called multiple times after our account being stuck in the “Held Position” after a request for a document to be signed. We signed and sent back the document and it has been 1.5 weeks and 4 phone calls and still nothing had happened, even after we have been told 3 separate times they have fixed the issue and we will be complete in 3-4 days. We have had to push back signing our building lease and are now a month behind schedule for insurance credentialing. Do yourself a favor and go through your local business banker. I feel like we have completely wasted over $600 and have gotten nowhere.

SCAM! I filed a LLC with LegalZoom and specifically remember opting out of the RA option. I remember this clear as day because I paused and made a phone call to ask someone if I should be my own registered agent for now and while on the phone, selected the appropriate options to be my own agent. A few weeks later, I was charged $159 but didn’t notice, they hide this charge under “registered agent” so that if you search your bank statements for “LegalZoom” it won’t come up with all the other normal charges. LegalZoom has never received a single piece of mail or documents on my behalf and now that I am demanding a refund, they’re saying I opted in. They opened an investigation but of course it will conclude by saying it is not their fault. It’s simple - you haven’t even done anything for me yet so there should be no problem giving me my money back.
Hi Benjamin, we provide the option to elect LegalZoom to serve as your agent or name another. According to your questionnaire, another agent was not named. Signed up for LegalZoom's Registered Agent services back in December. In mid-January, I checked with the Texas SOS and noticed that nothing had changed. I called LegalZoom to explain the situation and they apologized and assured me that they would take care of it. While filing my Franchise Tax in April, again I noticed that the Registered Agent had still not been changed. I called and asked them to cancel the service and refund my $159.00.
As of yesterday, nothing has been done. LegalZoom has failed to cancel the service and has not provided a refund. To make matters worse, the agent I spoke with yesterday would not provide me with a ref number or any way to reference the issue and disconnected the call when I asked about their process for handling refunds. Very professional. Obviously I will not be using LegalZoom in the future.
We try to do our best to make sure every customer is happy and it seems we fell short of that goal in this situation; you deserved better. We’ve located your account & issued a full refund. If you have any additional questions, please contact a manager directly via email.

AVOID at ALL costs! Horrible service! I hired LegalZoom to file a patent for me and they took over 3 months when I was told that it would take 3 weeks. Also, they made errors in the drawings, which they tried to charge me to correct, which resulted in the patent being rejected. At the end of the day, I am out over $1,000 and have no patent. When I contacted them, they refused to offer any refund or remedy and kept telling me to contact the law firm that they subcontracted to and said that they would not help me. Worst customer service I have received in over 20 years of business. Very sad!

Ordered a DBA from LegalZoom at a cost of 208.99. The area I live in is remote and mail is not delivered to the homes so you must pick up at post office. After several emails and Legal Zoom saying business address was not acceptable I grew frustrated and cancelled order. Legal Zoom told me the order was cancelled and that I have 208.99 credit with Legal Zoom and did not reimburse my fee. I have since gone through the state for the DBA which accepted by address at a charge of $10. After this experience I certainly will never use Legal Zoom again so the "credit" is basically a theft of 208.99. Would never recommend Legal Zoom.
We are truly sorry for any misunderstanding or miscommunication on our part. In reviewing your account, we've confirmed that the DBA was cancelled and a full refund was issued instead of the store credit. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a manager directly.

They exist to overcharge and in hopes that you won't notice their auto renewal fees. I will never use any service from this company or any of their affiliates. The fact that they do not even send a courtesy email about auto-renewal speaks to their business practices.

When doing business it feels like LegalZoom is so quick to charge you for any made up thing they come up with. In addition to this when you ask questions, the customer service reps treat you like you're annoying and then hang up after I (the unsatisfied customer) says, "Have a good day." It just feel like the service fee LegalZoom charges for their services is inflated in comparison to their competitors and the quality of service they provide. I would not recommend using LegalZoom to anyone. Look for a company that doesn't have hidden fees around every corner. Also a company that screens their reps to make sure they don't hire people with attitudes.

I had to have registered agent for my LLC. But on renewal I was going to be charged nearly 3x for the service. The only reason I caught it was the auto billing failed due me having a new credit card. They were going to just change the type of service without even asking me, all so they could make more profit and hope I wouldn't notice. The base service was all I needed. Warning - take yourself off auto pay. Look carefully at the repeat transactions. Question everything. There are a lot of alternatives out there. I would not use LegalZoom again.
It is very important to us to try and improve the situation when there has been any dissatisfaction with our service. I purchased a divorce Manual for $499.00 to be filed in court and I needed assistance after I paid them. I had so much trouble on their site. I called and emailed. Finally got one email response back that did not help me. The voicemail responded to me saying I should leave my number and email and I would get a return telephone call which never happened! Today I looked over my credit card statement and I have been charge 35.00 three times to online divorce services Port Ludlow Washington. The website asked me if I wanted the forms mailed, or printed I selected because it was free and I could print them off myself. Again today I am asked to leave my call back number. I want my refund because I printed the forms. HELP! NOW!

I've had LegalZoom for over four years, since January of 2015. I used them to start my LLC and were extremely helpful. The one thing I regret is not schooling myself on a "registered agent". After the 1st year, I wanted to cancel their services for I no longer needed them, and they advised me that I would HAVE to keep at least the (RA - registered agent) part because if not, I would get fined by my state, county and some other entity for not having a business RA. I obliged.
My renewal came up and $459 had been withdrawn. When questioned why so much they said because I had laws m legal minutes and documents. I advised I never requested that do. They cancelled it. The next year 299 were withdrawn and they did prices had gone up. This January I noticed 399 had been withdrawn and again. They did legal documents had been added. Per no one's request, mind you.
This time they offered to refund $100 so it can go to the normal $299. The main reason I had called was because before in years past, ALL of my mail had been sent via postal mail. And in December of 2018 they started emailing them. I received an email from legalzoom that I had a document. Due to the nature of my work, I tried opening it from my cell and nothing came up. I logged on the website through my cell and again, Nothing came up. So i figured, oh well, I'll see it in a few weeks in the mail.... Weeks went by, and I forgot about it...
I usually renew my entity in January, and because I never received my little 3x5 card reminding me, my $20 renewal lapsed and had to pay a $130 reinstatement fee. Legalzoom advised me they no longer send them via mail. They will now email them and if I wanted a paper copy i would have to call EACH AND EVERY SINGLE TIME. Who has time for that? I spent 56 minutes on hold just to ask about this. Apparently if I want to view them on the website, i must use Chrome... Who uses chrome? I hate chrome! Customer service talked to me like if I don't like it, then I'm under no obligation to continue with them. I just feel like, they took $399 from me for this entire 2019 year, and they can't use 50 cents of that to mail me my correspondence. Good riddance... My fault I guess, for again, not educating myself in RA's.

I've experienced 2-3 LLC incorporations with Legalzoom and I just recently cancelled a trademark order and I will never do business with them again and I recommend anyone else stay away, and here is why - You have absolutely ZERO to back you up with an LLC or Inc with the exception of a useless binder of official looking documents and a stamp, which does little more than serve an idiots ego (let's stamp everything! Yay! We're official).
However, you can print a bunch of stock options certificates (again useless on a new company) and minutes docs and ledger documents yourself. All you get for the money is a binder. And once you realize you were set up wrong or misled, it's gonna cost you again. Be prepared to get looped in for an inexpensive solution and then get ready to have your order placed on hold because they always find SOMETHING they need to upsell you for to process the order. Normally it ends up around the same cost as an attorney would charge...
BEWARE the subscriptions! Whether you want them or not, they will sign you up for "free trials" of all their products like expert assistance, etc. Sometimes to the tune of $300 or more per month. Again, you have NO OPTION to say no thank you at checkout, and they are hoping you forget about this. I ended up seeing a $300 charge on my bank for months before I noticed.
I just filed a trademark application, paid the rush processing, etc and then got an email telling me it was going to cost upwards of $2000 more to even process the order. They use the "tell us more about your trademark" section to literally plan all of the ways to upsell and hold your order until you do. Thankfully, the refund process is simple and painless, probably because they are so used to doing it... But not before you spend the money and realize how BAD this service really is.
I've done it a few times and I thought this time would be different. It never is. Legalzoom is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! AVOID! I appreciate the refund, and I'll be waiting on it to hit the account so I can just go hire an actual attorney. All you get with Legalzoom is paid printed documents - and MOST of the stuff they charge an insane amount for (like $350 for a USPTO review) can be by yourself in a few minutes. They have lost me as a customer FOREVER.
We're sorry to hear that you did not have the best experience with LegalZoom. We want to make it right. We’d love to have you talk with our customer care manager for business services. Totally ripped off by Legal Zoom!!! I was starting a business and went through Legal Zoom for trademark searching, applying and getting registered. I was told about the different levels of searches (Local, State and Fed) and how much better Fed is because it covers more ground for HUNDREDS more of a charge of-course but "it's the best option for you" so I paid. Then additional charge for application, as well as THEIR charge for services and all this bogus. END UP PAYING ABOUT 1400$ for my trademark to be DENIED! Then, to avoid being abandoned was told to consult with their legal department who can help represent me for MORE OF A COST.
Being NEW to the business world and not aware that the SEARCH is FREE @ USPTO, I was charged HUNDREDS of dollars for the search, told information that was INCORRECT as well as charged hundreds for service I obviously DID NOT RECEIVE because I am suffering from it now due to someone else from around my area who STOLE the idea/name and is being approved as my app was "DENIED/ABANDONED". WOW!!!
It is very important to us that our customers are happy with the products and services we offer. We offer Trademark searches that allow our customers to decide if they wish to continue with filing. We also inform our customers that we can only guarantee the quality of our work but cannot guarantee the outcome as that is solely at the discretion of the USPTO. We are happy to review your account & help in finding a resolution. Please feel free to contact a manager via email.

Eight business days have passed so another call was made. It's getting bumped up to technical support again. I tried LegalZoom about a year ago. I was trying to get a family lawyer to help me get more time with my son. I had to go through LegalZoom many times to get a call set up to talk to the lawyer about the case. To make a long story short all he did was write one letter and made one phone call to my son's mother’s lawyer. He just agreed with anything my son's mother’s lawyer said and came back and told me to sign a new parenting plan agreeing to whatever my son's mother wanted and do it for 6 months then we could maybe take her to court. I said I didn't want to do that and never regard back from until about 6 months later and now he wants $630 for doing nothing. The lawyer isn't even a family lawyer that LegalZoom provided, but they said that did not matter since he was willing to talk to me. Rip off!!! Stay away.

I recently used LegalZoom to file for an LLC in the state of Texas. You are given a choice to be your own register agent or use LegalZoom for a fee. I opted OUT of using LegalZoom yet after the LLC was filed I was billed $159 on my credit card on file. This is an annual fee that can only be reversed if LegalZoom charges me again to remove the registered agent filing. Called the Company and they claim I opted for their service but were unwilling to forward me the actual forms I filled out online and I can not get back to that place on their website. Very underhanded and deceitful practice to get more money. DO NOT recommend them to do your LLC (go to a local attorney).
Hi John, our registered agent service is offered as only an option to our business customers and can be cancelled at anytime. If you "opt out" you are then given the ability to list another agent name and address in the questionnaire. Although we offer to help our customers update their agent, there's also an option to update your agent directly with the state. Once the agent is updated, you can notify us and we'll make sure your LegalZoom subscription is cancelled right away. We'd really like to help resolve things. Strongly suggest using a different service or legal firm for company creation/support. The cost will be the same and there are no auto-renewals. I changed the registered agent from their service to myself and then tried to cancel the renewal. Of course they need this and that and when provided then they want you to waste time call and listen to a sales pitch. All of their "concerns" are bunk. The registered agent is a mere filing with the state. The previous registered agent has no say, only the company. Fortunately the card they had been changed and when they tried to bill it refused. I have done several companies in the past and after all of the add-ins the LegalZoom was actually more expensive. Most importantly this is a headache. Save yourself the grief and stay far away from anything this company sells. They are Charlatans.
We are truly sorry for any misunderstanding or miscommunication on our part. The LegalZoom registered agent service we offer is always optional and a new agent can be chosen at any time. LZ calls me to tell me my account is inactive and that I have to call the State of NJ to clear it up myself. What am I paying you $550 per year to do for me?
LZ still has not filed my Annual Report because I was informed that the two emails associated with my account are not valid!!!! LegalZoom is a total waste of money. I started my dissolution on 2/27/2019. LegalZoom called me and told me that in the state of Texas they cannot file for tax clearance for me, and that I would have to do it myself. It took me a while, but I got the tax clearance I needed in the middle of March. I called LegalZoom again, and told them I had the tax clearance, but the agent I spoke with told me she did not think I needed to send my tax clearance letter to them. She went ahead and pushed my order through. One and a half weeks later, the order status hadn't moved.
I called them again and they told me I DID need to send my tax clearance letter, and they would get the order done right away. It is important to note that throughout this process, LegalZoom raised their registered agent service to $300. I got billed $300 on top of the $285 I paid for a rush dissolution. Now at a total paid of $285, and LegalZoom contacted me AGAIN to tell me that there was a problem with my order. It has now been almost 2 months since I originally filed my dissolution.
Express dissolution my **, I just called and got a full refund. Worst experience ever, the employees are not familiar with the laws in your state. I was very excited that I had finally made the decision to create an LLC for my jewelry business. I opted for the premium package of services offered by LegalZoom thinking this would be the way to go to expedite my business name, etc. The name and trademark service went fine. However, they were not, are not, transparent about charges. I was fully upfront with them. I told them I would not be selling anything for at least 8 months to a year because I need to make sure I have enough high quality jewelry inventory to open my own website, use Etsy or any other manner of selling. I just wanted to secure the name and get the accounting side of the business going so when I do actually begin selling then everything will be in place and I would know more about what I am doing and what my responsibilities are. I also told them I would not be hiring any employees for at least two years.
I was told I would not be paying any taxes of any kind for the first year. Before two weeks had past, I received a notice from them that I owe the state $800.00 for my LLC! WHAT?? I was specifically told, and I have names of people I spoke too, that I would not have any taxes to pay for the first year. I don't even have enough product to sell yet regardless of where I would choose to sell. I am also being charged a large amount (over 1 $1,000.00 plus $30.00 per month) for an accountant and access to a "portal" to receive notices about what I am supposed to do and when to file this or that.
I have called many, many times. Many times. The people who answer the phone at the LegalZoom phone lines are, seriously, reading a script. The same script was delivered to me by different people, word for word when I asked about the $800.00 tax bill. I was told that this matter was the State Tax Department and they had nothing to do with this matter. I asked to speak to a tax attorney, as I had paid for attorney service as well. I was told that they don't have any attorneys that handle tax matters. REALLY! I was completely astonished. Beyond astonished! I also tried to contact an attorney to help me handle some personal matters, which is what I paid for. The notice on the web page said that this page had been removed!
I also came into a situation where the name I chose for my business is very similar, too similar, to another person making jewelry which LegalZoom should have caught when doing their search. The artist owning this name contacted me via phone, and politely asked me not to use the name because it was too close and there would be confusion for customers. Although I don't know the artist on a personal level, I do know who this artist is and I have great respect for this individual so I immediately agreed to change the name of my business. No problem, or so I thought. I was very upfront from the start with LegalZoom and told them I would be opening at least three businesses selling different items so I would want three separate names under the same LLC. I was told this was called a DBA so this was not an issue. HA! I have put in the request for three different names to identify the businesses and I have not heard one word! Nothing!
After all of the phone calls that have garnered no information I was told to talk to the accountant that has been assigned to me. This appointment is this next week. I am not hopeful. What began as a very exciting, motivating situation has now turned into a sour "I told ya so!" loss of money and a broken heart. I know that may sound silly to some of you but this is a dream I have been working toward for several years now. If there is no help, no resolution from LegalZoom, I will have no choice but to seek help with this problem elsewhere.
Also, I did get to speak to a copyright/patent attorney to ask questions about protecting my designs. Because I have already gone through the copyright situation when I was a professional / fine art photographer I already knew quite a bit but I just wanted to check myself through asking this attorney questions. HE HAD NO ANSWERS! In true fact, I know more about how copyrights work than he did! And I had to pay for this?
I could give you more examples but I hope you get the idea. LegalZoom is NOT what they would have the general public believe. Save your money and your wits, and hold onto your dreams by finding other means of fulfilling your dreams of creating your own small business because all you will receive here is loss of money, broken promises, and dreams sidelined.

I just recently found out that LegalZoom charged my credit card for an additional $960.00 for services that I did not request. This company is unethical. Do not waste your money with LegalZoom. They should be ashamed of themselves. When you call to try to speak with someone you are left on hold for 45 mins to an hour. When I finally spoke with a live person I was told that the other services were for a free trial and that I should have canceled them within 30 days. You can't cancel what you don't know you have! Each year LegalZoom increases their registered agent fees, with the new amounts applying automatically. They also appear to use different prices for different customers. This year the increase on my account was massive - from $150 to $400! Other companies charge around $40 for registered agent services. I'll be cancelling this service, unfortunately they are making me jump through a lot of hoops to cancel. They state that I have to prove I have a new registered agent before they can cancel their automatic credit card deductions (this is not true and my bank has confirmed they will be able to make a chargeback if LegalZoom charges me again stating this as a reason).
It is very important to us to try and improve the situation when there has been any dissatisfaction with our service. Our registered agent subscription fees were recently increased to include additional benefits important to many of our subscription members. Having a named agent for service of process is required by the state. We are truly sorry you're not happy with the upgraded benefits/fees & we’d really like to offer a resolution that will regain your satisfaction.

LegalZoom Registered Agent Service is just a fraud. In 2017, I used LegalZoom to form my company: **. I filled out their online application. One of the question was: "Do you want LegalZoom to be your Register Agent?" I answered "No.".They filed my paperwork and put them as my Register Agent and charged my credit card $159.00. I called them and protested. They told me that only the state can cancel them as my Registered Agent. I tried many times with the state (New York), in vain. The state always found something wrong on my application to cancel LegalZoom, as my agent.
After many attempts without success, I gave up. This year, I tried them one more time for the filing of my new company: "Math Teacher Manhattan, LLC". I filled out the online application, very carefully. I did not choose them as my agent, and again they sent me an e-mail that they will charge my credit $159.00 for choosing them as my Register Agent, which is a pure lie. They are directing me again to the state. This company is defrauding consumers with their hard earned money. Something as to be done. Nobody should hire them for anything; furthermore, the state should step in to protect the public. I will never recommend anyone to do business with them. Zoumana ** Very Angry,
Hi Zoumana, our registered agent service is optional & on our application, we ask if you would like to elect LegalZoom to serve or choose another. If you click the choose another option, you are prompted to enter the agent information of your choice. If you application did not name another agent, we reach out to confirm the information. I like many people, opted to use LegalZoom for the filing of an LLC. I went through all the processes and selected the option I liked best. The paperwork went through and came back quickly (about a week). At this point everything seemed ok, until I received a bank statement that stated I overdrafted. I looked at my account and had 4 additional charges that amounted to close to $800 that I was totally unaware. I never signed up for any of the other services, just the LLC package I ordered (which already was $800).
I went on to call their customer service, no answer on the line. Now I have to call the bank and dispute these charges. I NEVER once received an email, call, or mail about any additional services being charged. They automatically took it from the card on file. I reviewed my original receipt, and found at the bottom under an asterisk I noticed a few fees (3 fees totally over $800). This was never in the original purchase form and the company was NEVER upfront about these fees. I WANT A REFUND!

LegalZoom recently upped their fees to $399 without telling anyone apparently. On top of that I've never actually been notified of when my yearly recurring payments were happening except for the original payment. It gets better though! I can't cancel my account online without uploading legal documents to prove that I'm changing to a different legal representative, so now I have to wait until Monday to call them to cancel my account so I don't get charged again for whatever ridiculous fee they could tack on at any moment. It's clear that this company makes its money by quietly upping their fees and making it so annoying to cancel services that some people just don't bother.
LegalZoom, if you want to make this right refund my $399 and cancel all services on my account. That turned into an annual fee that I called and canceled. I was told I would no longer be billed. I disputed the charges with my CC company (Bank of America) and was told that they would put a "block" on future charges from LegalZoom. I even had BofA cancel my card and reissue a new one. Original Review: March 19, 2019
My experience with LegalZoom has not been good. It started out fine, I had an estimated date of completion for February 28th, then because they claimed my fax had lines through it (which it didn't, because they sent me the copy of that exact fax with my paperwork and it looked completely fine!!) It wouldn't be done until March 5th, then moved to March 12th (not sure of the reasoning for that!). Well I finally get my paperwork, the AZCC spelled my LLC name incorrectly, an agent with LegalZoom said they would get that taken care of urgently. 5 days later and no update, I called the AZCC and got it fixed myself within an hour. I have been calling to get my EIN, but still haven't gotten it. The state approved my LLC on February 28th, it's March 18th now and I still don't have it.
I've called multiple times and gotten horrible customer service and no help or reason. I called 2 times today, first I had to wait 55 minutes (recording said between 31 and 45), the lady Carol answered the phone, said she would check in it, put me on hold for about 8 minutes then hung up... I called again, this time waited an hour and a half. Carol answered AGAIN and she did the same exact thing after assuring me she didn't remember that call and that she would call me back if it hung up again. Well she didn't. I waited on hold until I got hung up on again. I am extremely frustrated as I would love to open a business bank account, but can't without my EIN.
I have emailed another rep who has been extremely slow at responding and has no information when she does such as I don't have an update, I'll send this to the management, or "I'll check on that EIN for you" then not getting back to me. I requested that a manager call me, because their phone lines suck and I have no idea how to get ahold of anyone through that. But again, I got no response. Total waste of money and I will be telling everyone I know not to use LegalZoom because they happily take your money but won't make it right. I would love a refund, but can't get ahold of anyone. DO NOT USE LEGALZOOM!

I am putting this review to get LegalZoom to change their process to include an additional step for their clients. While all the proper forms were completed as ordered and a timely receipt of the final package was fine. What frustrated me was (1) the many attempts to get through to their support phone line even when I agreed to wait for a call back vs waiting on the line. (2) Once I got through the next morning, I inquired why my LLC did not appear in the FL Sunbiz system which was an embarrassment after trying to set up a business account with this information. I was told that I would need to call the State of Florida to find out why the info was not shown. My expectation was that LZ had vetted to make sure this was visible within the specific State system or they should have added that as an action item for me to do. MAYBE ADD THIS TO THEIR LETTER WHEN RETURNING THE FINAL DOCUMENTS FROM THE STATE.

Virginia is a state that requires LLC's to use Registered Agents, so I signed up for it two years ago, before the price increase. In the same way Congress schedules votes on unpopular bills when no one is watching, LegalZoom sent out its notification a couple days past Christmas, when people are on vacation and less likely to pay attention. I failed to notice the price increase and did not switch Registered Agents in time (you can buy Registered Agent services in Virginia for as little as $49, not $399!)
On top of that, when I finally received notification that the LegalZoom Registered Agent had received a document on my behalf (that is the purpose of having a Registered Agent) I could not access the document on their website due to a malfunction! What the heck? I pay nearly $400 for this service and they can't even design a functional website? Take your business elsewhere.

Some examples to support my case: They will pretend they are there to reach out anytime, but you can never reach the same person after speaking with them once. I was even lied to on the phone and via email by representatives saying my businesses weren't dissolved, when I confirmed three times with the state that they were. I first used LegalZoom in December of 2016 to help form my LLC. It seemed easy enough and I didn't notice any issues, so I used them again in January of 2018 to form my second. Unfortunately, I am terrible at watching what is being charged to my credit cards. Today I noticed a card that I hadn't been using had a balance for several hundred dollars. LegalZoom had charged me $320 for a membership I didn't know I had. This is billed yearly, and the first happened a month after I last used LegalZoom. After paying the initial setup fee, I thought my business with LegalZoom was done. I had no idea they would be charging me anything again.
I had already been charged the $320 twice for the second business and was informed by the customer service representative that the first business may be charged $299/year for using them as a Registered Agent. I never used LegalZoom for my Registered Agent with either business. Now it is a matter of digging through years of statements to see how much LegalZoom took me for. I used personal credit cards for the original transaction. I haven't monitored those as closely as my business cards, resulting in years of unknown charges. Apparently, LegalZoom uses less than ethical business practices and doing any business with them is like writing a blank check.

The other day I noticed a charge for $399 from LegalZoom on my credit card statement. I called LegalZoom and the agent stated that the charges were for Resident Agent fees plus Legal Documents. I asked her how much of the charge was allocated for each item and she could not tell me but placed me on hold and came back several minutes later and told me that the Registered Agent Fee was $299 and that Legal Documents were $100. I told her that I could not recall ever paying that much for RA fees in the past and that I never authorized any legal documents charges and in fact I had cancelled my $7.99 monthly subscription for legal documents months prior because I never authorized it and wasn't using it.
Furthermore, a quick Google search returns dozens of Registered Agents charging between $99 and $160. I asked why in the world someone would want to pay $299 for a service they could get for 1/3 of that price elsewhere. She went on and on about how LegalZoom provides specialized services that other RA companies do not which according to another Google search is grossly overstated.
While I was on the phone with her I opened up my credit card statements and searched for LegalZoom because I could not remember exactly how much I had paid for RA fees in previous years. Imagine my surprise and subsequent anger when I realized that I had paid $159 in RA fees for the two previous years and that LegalZoom had taken it upon themselves to DOUBLE the charges and tack on an EXTRA $100 without any prior notice and charge my credit card without any authorization for these new charges. I asked her to to refund the $100 and told her I would find another more reasonable registered agent and call them back for a prorated refund when I did. This is when things became infuriating. She told me that it would be "really hard" to get the "system" to give me a refund. I found the implication that I should not insist upon a refund because it might be difficult for her absurd!
I told her that if that was the case, I would simply call Citi and dispute the charge. She became snarky at this point, informing me that LegalZoom would dispute the disputed charge and if they won, they would recharge my card. I laughed at her and explained how I highly doubted that Citi would side with a company who charged an unauthorized amount (which was obvious based on prior years charges) on my card for products that I didn't ask for and don't use (again, made obvious by my cancellation of Legal Documents 6 months prior).
I explained to her how their practices amount to fraud and how no reasonable person would expect a company to charge them more than double for a product without notice or authorization despite any fine print. She quickly changed her tune and refunded the $100 and told me to call back when I was ready to cancel which was so redundant I had to laugh again. Since then I have learned that I can serve as the registered agent for my LLC which of course LegalZoom never volunteered, and as soon as the state confirms the change I will be calling LegalZoom back for my prorated refund as I originally requested. I will also be reporting this activity to Citi, the FTC and the BBB at the very least.
LegalZoom should tread lightly. Reading hundreds of other reviews lets me know that this is a common practice and I feel sorry for the people who have been charged who don't notice or decide simply to go along with it because it will be "really hard" for the "system" to process their refund. I smell a class action lawsuit coming.

Louisiana is the only state that requires wills to be notarized. I ordered a Last will and testament from LegalZoom and couldn't get any notary to notarize it. I called at least 10 notaries, even the ones LegalZoom recommended! They told me no one will notarize them because they would assume liability! They would only notarize a will that they created themselves! I finally gave up and returned the will to LegalZoom, which required me to go to the post office and register the mail! The whole process of this cost me a lot of time and trouble! LegalZoom should not sell wills in Louisiana!

I would highly recommend you that NOT to use LegalZoom. Once you sign up, they will keep selling you different products. They are not lawyers, so they rely on their lawyer partnership to help them out. But every time you call their partners, they will just try to sell you their products, not solving your problems. It took them 4 months to get an EIN for me, even though, they said it would be around two weeks. I am not the only saying this. Just read other reviewers on this company. This is not my first run-in with LegalZoom. Upon completing my non-profit, they eventually had to refund our money because they didn't disclose their level of involvement they can assist with. Now with the Registered Agent services, they are not familiar with the proper information for all states and DC. They clearly misread or didn't understand the requirements for DC and as Registered Agents they missed a deadline filing AND they didn't inform us, even if they couldn't file it. Didn't find out until we went online with DC that our company filing was revoked. LegalZoom's response "we can only go back 6 months and we can't see what alerts were sent". Unacceptable. Very disappointed. Thankfully, this is the month to re-sign with LegalZoom as our Registered Agent and they can't, only because we have new credit card information. Thankfully!
I really don't feel it is worth it to pay for the Registered Agent service if 1) they don't notify you of what the service entails and 2) keeps you abreast of what needs to be filed. Very disappointed. On top of that, the initial call I made to reconcile the info was ignored. Called back and it was verified that the request to have a manager call was never input into the system. When the manager called back, she was not knowledgable and extremely nasty. Awful experience and I will be researching other Registered Agents.

I said, "Well that's not what was portrayed" and that I shouldn't have to pay 200 bucks for one question, I could ask some tax guy and he wouldn't do that. The agent said "then go find one then..." Submitted for a Gold Express package on 1/17/19 for $399. It is February 15th and the status for my LLC on the LegalZoom site says "Delayed by the state. Taking longer than expected." I needed the LLC quickly to get banking setup, but understand sometimes things are out of our control and the state may be behind. After trying to contact LegalZoom with no response I decided to search for my LLC on the state site, sure enough it was there and was approved just days after I submitted, which is great, but why does LegalZoom not know this? Why won't they respond? I wasted crucial weeks waiting for them when it was complete the entire time. I would recommend doing any sort of work they provide elsewhere.

About 5 years ago, my wife and I decided to start an LLC with the goal of making mobile games. Seemed like a fun way to pass the time and possibly lucrative, but we knew absolutely nothing about starting a company. If we had, we might not have felt the need to use LegalZoom, but honestly we were the exact demographic they were looking for: we had all the knowledge of the product, and we needed someone else to provide the knowledge and assistance in starting the business.
We formed the LLC through them, which was relatively expensive compared to doing it ourselves but honestly alleviated a lot of the nervousness we had about forgetting something, missing something, etc. The process was easy, the phone calls were simple, and they even sent us this really neat binder full of papers we never used... but it's made out of a cool material and has our company name stamped on it. Oh, and a company stamp too. Again, we never used this stuff and they can probably mass produce hundreds for a few dollars, but you know what? Those are cool little things we wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and will make nice collectible memorabilia.
Anyhow, we also signed up for their Registered Agent Service, because we wanted to keep our home address off the company paperwork, as well as did the first annual report through them. That annual report is actually super easy to do on your own, though, so that's entirely up to you. Again: we did it through them for peace of mind.
Now, the service I signed up for DID add a few things I didn't actually want or need as a "recurring" charge, and after Googling the company that scared the crap out of me. I was afraid they had me locked in for years to come, and would charge me to the ends of time. The only way to cancel was through phone, and I was prepared to get trapped on the phone for hours trying to cancel but being given the runaround.
Except... that didn't happen. I was on the phone less than 10 minutes, most of that was waiting queue time, and they cancelled without a fuss and without asking me to reconsider. Just a "Ok, that's cancelled. What about the registered agent service? Keep that? Ok, all done". The dread I had of the deed was actually far far worse than the deed itself. Honestly, I've had a much harder time cancelling our stupid web hosting. (Not going to name and shame here, but I strongly recommend picking your hosts carefully...)
The LLC didn't really work out (day jobs just got in the way of really making a good product), so we voluntarily dissolved it recently. I just got off the call to end the recurring charge for the Registered Agent that was going to trigger in June, and again it was a really clean and simple process. The guy on the phone had me cancelled in a couple minutes, and then said that I'd be refunded the remaining amount that I'd have been charged between now and June; it'll be back on my CC in 3-5 days.
Tl;dr - I felt the need to write this review because I didn't feel like LegalZoom was a 1.1 star experience. They did exactly what I was looking for them to do, charged exactly what they said they would charge, and while they did add on other recurring charges that I wasn't expecting, I was able to cancel those pretty easily. None of their phone people harassed me during the cancellation, and all together the entire experience was pleasant.

Do not sign up with this company, they are scamming people and charging people fees and are prohibiting customers from cancelling without providing extra state documentation that is unnecessary. The certificate of change form which has to be sent to you by the state was delayed due to the government shutdown and they charged my bank account - when I called a month prior - after I received my first paycheck in weeks, I called in January and cancelled and sent my paperwork to the NY state office and it was delayed due to the shutdown. What they have done to me and my family is evil, as I just received my paycheck for my family after not having any money to feed my family and they do this. This is criminal. I agree with all that is said here. We contacted them when we started about the Auto Renew of this b.s. scam for California Registered Agent. We just got charged $399.00 (without any notification mind you except from our bank) for this ridiculous non-sensical business for a new company. The Auto Renew was set for $159.00 (which we were forced to accept after gaining their services to form the LLC, never mentioned as such when we signed up) AND, you can't opt of the Auto renew! It's impossible unless you block/cancel your credit card from more fraudulent charges, especially without prior notification. Sound shady? It is.
LegalZoom also shows on their b.s. search pages that California charges up to $500 for this service, but a quick internet search will show you that CA companies offer this service (quality, accredited and verified services) for a FRACTION of the price. Now I'm sure they will post below LegalZoom is so sorry about this inconvenience and misunderstanding, they want to correct this, customer service is their priority and to contact one of their managers or reps. Blah blah blah. Good luck with that! They should be contacting all of these people they scam like this. Stay clear.

They are IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of. I started an LLC three years ago with them and utilized their registered agent service initially because it was easier to package it all together. Each year, I just let it auto renew because it was affordable (at $159/yr). Well this year, just one month before my registered agent was set to expire, I received an email stating that my new registered agent fee would jump up to $399/yr unless I found a new registered agent and showed the necessary paperwork to cancel before the expiration date.
I scrambled to do this and found a new registered agent, filed the necessary paperwork with the state, and sent that information to LegalZoom within the correct time frame. It's been 13 days (8 business days) and they still have not gotten back to me, even though I did everything necessary according to their website. Their initial email robo-response said I would hear back from them in two business days and my cancellation would be reviewed/confirmed within 3-7 business days. I have heard nothing.
My account currently says "past due" even though, as I said many times before, I already canceled with them. I'm glad I removed the auto-pay option from my account, otherwise who knows how much I'd be charged for at this point. I've reached out to them several times and have still heard nothing back. You have to work pretty hard to earn a bad review from me, so kudos on that, LegalZoom. Avoid them at (literally) all costs.

I called and asked about the payment and they said they were LLC payments which made no sense. Then I ask them how did they get money from my account when I no longer have the debit card and she said they called my bank and got my info. I had my boyfriend call and speak to someone else and they gave him a completely different story. Not only that but the woman I talked to started yelling at me like I was a child so I hung up on her. I am still trying to resolve this matter. They are terrible people. This company needs to be shut down. I didn't even want to give them the 1 star.

I have been a loyal LegalZoom customer for a number of years and have completed quite a few business filings. This latest one makes me feel the company has been purchased by someone else or has become too large. The whole process has been ridiculous. Paid for the expedited service and it has been almost three weeks and the filing has just been sent to the state. The issues began with robocalls (although we requested to be contacted by email) telling us there was a problem with the filing. It takes an average of 45-60 minutes to get to the correct person to find out the issue. The last two times were asking the same question each time. (What is the registered agent's email.) Very annoying to call, spend an hour answering the same call we already answered twice before (once on the phone when I registered) and then a call two days before.
Then today yet another robocall (third this week) saying there was an issue with the filing. Called and spent 15 minutes to get to right department (transferred by the original operator.) Then opted for a return call in 45-52 minutes as opposed to waiting on hold. Waited an hour, received a call from the robocall and then sat another 25 minutes on hold waiting to speak to someone. Why are you calling me when there is not someone available? Spoke to a condescending supervisor named Chris **, who told me "Good news. Today's call was to tell me that the filing had been sent to the state." Seriously I just spent 1 1/2 hours calling you back to be told this? After the other multiple calls this week and the week before from you?
I told Chris they have wasted far too much of my time and they owe me a discount. He said "No, we don't offer those for having you call us." He missed the point completely and was terrible with customer service. The filing should have happened weeks ago, I have had multiple robocalls when I told them I wanted to be contacted by email and I have wasted hours calling them back due to their issues. Won't use this company ever again and will make sure I share this information with our local chamber of commerce and BBB office.

I updated my information but the "save" button to save the updates was disabled and I was unable to make the necessary changes. I called customer service in order to update my information over the phone since they were required changes, only to be told repeatedly that it was my fault for the issue, and that it was due to my using an Apple device, because apparently LegalZoom's products do not work on Apple devices.
Obviously this is a problem that LegalZoom has to fix, however the customer service agent was extremely rude, kept repeating that it was my issue (even though it is an issue with the way their site is programmed), and that I just needed to find someone with a Windows computer to complete the form since they cannot even update my information in the system for me either. But once those are secured, your questions will remain mostly unanswered. My Account Specialist is not returning emails which are over 10 days old, and their online request form has remained unanswered for over 7 days now.
If you get stuck with this level of service with them, your most immediate responses will be from their online chat, once you have logged into your account, where the responder will be reading off a generalized script. And likely not answer your questions. I have used this service in the past, as have friends of mine, due to the ease of it. But regardless of your purchased package, you are still responsible for your own local & county licensing. It's just better to save your money, and do it all yourself. We filed our DBA paperwork on January 2nd, only for LegalZoom to flag it and return to us for a correction. Upon resubmitting the paperwork, we then received an onslaught of email notifications for the following week about a hold on our paperwork, as if an agent had never spoken with us and noted our account with the recent update. More time went by and conversations with multiple agents on the whereabouts of our updated documents. On January 22nd, we were told though our paperwork showed as received in their system from the post office, they were unable to locate it. Quote: "I don't know what happened. It's somewhere in the building. I'm not sure where. That's odd. Let's wait another 2-3 business days and see what happens."
This is unacceptable, made even worse by the fact that there was no supervisor available (all in meetings) to speak with. Now to see if our refund will be honored. All this precious time has been wasted, when we could've filed directly at our local office and had our documents approved by now. Do not allow incompetent people to handle your business affairs.
We're truly sorry about what occurred with your order and with your customer care experience. We’d like to try to make things right. Please feel free to contact us directly & we’ll be sure to have a manager respond.

My auto-renew with LegalZoom was linked to an expired card. Which is GOOD, because I didn't want it to auto-renew (just another annoying LegalZoom setting), so I found an alternative for a registered agent at a MUCH more reasonable rate and had to wait for that order to process before I could upload proof of my registered agent to LegalZoom's site. LegalZoom requires proof for some reason in order to cancel. (What business is it of theirs who I used as a registered agent? Or even if I have a registered agent?) I uploaded the proof and then saw that LegalZoom had ALREADY CHARGED ME. They had an OLD credit card number, linked to an OLD billing address and SOMEHOW it went through? Did they contact my credit card company and obtain the account number? Shady business, if you ask me. I won't let a $399 charge go quietly, however I'm sure I'll have to battle with them to get it back.
Hi Julie, we have no problem with refunding anything charged in error so you would never have to battle. A financial institution will never provide anyone with updated credit card information but if the accounts are linked, they still have the ability to process it. Although having LegalZoom serve as your agent has always been only an option, having an agent listed is required by the state. We’d like to resolve things with you asap. I used LegalZoom as my registered agent. I notified them on Dec 11 that I had hired another company and I wanted to cancel their service. They refused to do it and told me to do it online. I told them I couldn't get into my account and they just told me again to do it online. I called them again later in the month and told them again that I wanted to cancel. They again told me to go online and do it myself. Immediately after I informed them of my intent to cancel, they charged me $399. (They charged me early so I couldn't cancel.) This extended their service on my business for a full year, causing my new registered agent to be rejected by the state.
I quickly appointed myself to be the registered agent since they got the new company kicked off my account. Still they will not refund the $399 they stole from my account. I have emailed them numerous times and they refuse to respond. I have filed a BBB complaint and they refuse to respond. I am out $400 for absolutely nothing but plain ole theft. My only option now is to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which will take a long time, but it's time well spent to stop them from doing this to other people.

I used LegalZoom to file a TradeMark and they put in a "free 30-day" business plan. Of course, after 30 days, they billed me $39.99 per month. Why do they have to resort to such trickery? No doubt, there was some small-print disclosure (they have attorneys, after all). I, no doubt, accepted some 50 pages of terms and conditions somewhere along the line. So, yes, LegalZoom gets to keep my money. But, I can only hope they lose more when people start complaining.

It was close to $700 and I refused a registered agent or any of the other stuff they tried to cram down my throat. So then they called me and questioned it. I told them I wanted it. They then waffled around and made me feel like I needed an attorney that I had to wait a week to talk to (I bought expedited package). I called the Corporation board for the AZ state - they said I needed it. I told them I needed it and they then wanted my license. I sent it immediately. They still have a hold on it 3 days later. So much for expedited. It is just filling in forms. Easy. And a fee. Fee. Big deal. I can do that in 20 minutes or less! I am currently trying to get my money back. LegalZoom this year renewed my annual registered agent subscription at some ridiculous rate for some service I do not need without my positive approval without my knowledge. It took two calls and multiple emails to get credited the difference back. In that transaction however they “accidentally” changed the email on my account and now I can no longer access MY OWN account. I have called 5 times and spoken to 5 different people all who promised me that a supervisor will call me and take care of this.
Of course no one has called me and no one has followed up. I have sent multiple emails to the customer support email with no response. I have emailed a manager with no response. As of right now I can not get into my account, cannot remove my payment information and cannot get anyone to help me on the phone or via email. What I have found thru multiple calls is that the “customer service” line is actually manned by salespeople and if they get the idea that you will not be buying anything, they have no interest in helping you. SHAME ON YOU LEGALZOOM. Good concept with AWFUL service.

Starting a business was scary enough. Being ripped off by a “Legal” company is something you shouldn’t have to be afraid of. They file paperwork for you to get your business name and EIC but for some particular reason they WON'T let you cancel your Registered Agent subscription with them. They will force the transaction every year. And without proper verification of the card. You have to do research and file for them to be removed, then prove to them you’ve done so. It’s like being bullied. Never use these people. They will make it seem you have to use them for services that you don’t need them for, then rob you over and over. Funny how I can pay this company yearly and they won’t file the paperwork to cancel but charge you for simply having them named on a document. They have legal loopholes to force these transactions that don’t seem legal!

LegalZoom has a great concept and what appears to be good customer service. However, it is my experience that my company will NEVER use their services again! First off, my company did our research to find an experienced company to fulfill our needs. In the beginning we chatted with a representative via computer and was treated as though our business was not wanted for the particular service. We brushed it off and went with a different company and decided to use LegalZoom for other needed services.
As the transaction continued, we thought it would be a smooth and delightful transaction but was served a headache instead. We did everything that we could to be proactive. We checked on our account day in and day out to see if there was any hold ups and if we could provide assistance at moment’s notice. We received an email saying that there was a delay in our order and so we called in and the rep advised us that he didn’t know why the system gave us the email because there was nothing wrong with our order and we offered to provide him with extra information just in case LegalZoom may need it to process our order.
Within 4 days our account continued to show no movement and Delays. So out of good faith we called in to check for an update and was told that they were having problems behind the scenes with our account. We asked why they did not communicate this to us as we were more than happy to help them resolve any concerns they had ran into. In addition to this, we informed them that the system was saying something totally different on our end. This led us to believe that they were providing their customers with false information about the movements of their (the customer’s) accounts. They simply could not provide an answer and when asked to get to a supervisor the rep informed me that I would have to contact the supervisor via email after we had paid this company about $500.
In short, we never got to a supervisor, instead we got hung up on 3 times and told that they were sorry about our experience when all we wanted was some affirmation that our business was getting taking care of. We trusted LegalZoom to handle our accounts for our business and in return we was left with a bitter taste in our mouths. We trusted LegalZoom to provide us with superior service especially when we forked out $500 to this company for the best package they had. Unfortunately, they were not able to deliver. So we canceled our order. To make matters worse the next rep we spoke to about cancelling our order informed us that they were having system issues and our cancellation confirmation and refund will be sent to us. Nevertheless, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited until the next day to see if they would deliver on their word.
The next day came and no form of communication about the cancellation or refund was communicated to us. Again, we called to get some insight on the mishaps of the account just to get told that they do not know what we were talking about and the rep started to inform us of prior incidents on our account that had nothing to do with our order cancellation and told us that our refund was on the account in a form of a store credit! Mind you that this transaction took place recently and nothing had been processed. Again, we were hung up on 4 times after requesting to speak with the higher ups about our concern.
After a little over an hour and a half we was refunded our money. To be honest with those who read this… Beware of this company for 8 reasons: 1. They do not value new clients business—you are just another number. 2. Communication is not a value that they embody. 3. They seem to be very unorganized. 4. The frontline associates do not have a clue on how to help you. It doesn’t seem like they are given much training to help you as a customer. 5. Their interest is not in the best interest of your business. 6. Upper management is not available for customers to talk with. The next two points are simply facts. We took our business elsewhere and were able to get done what we were going to pay LegalZoom for 10 times less than what LegalZoom was charging us! 7. They are overpriced. 8. They are a headache to deal with.
We are happy to say that our business is with Northwest Registered Agents and they from beginning to the end were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and more importantly, DID NOT once pressure us into buying anything from them. They were simply there to offer us guidance and truly propel our business forward. We just want to be clear, before this incident we had no relationships with Northwest Registered Agents and are not getting paid to saying this. They were a great help and we felt like they genuinely cared for what we were trying to accomplish without all of the headache! What’s more, they helped us without us paying them a dime for the services we were being charged from LegalZoom. This is our experience, our opinion and It is truly up to you to decide if LegalZoom is for you BUT for us we would NEVER give LegalZoom our business now or in the future.

Told me they never received them. They found them 10 days later in a pile (thank God for tracking number that proved they were received). When I called, no less than 2 dozen times, the Gate Keepers will not let you speak with the “production people”. These are the people who are supposedly doing the work on your account. When asked to speak to a supervisor, there isn’t one to speak with.
I asked for the name of the attorney who would be signing off on the work. There is no attorney. That’s correct. There are no attorneys. I asked what kind of credentials the production people have. Are they legal aids? Paralegals?? I was told by the Gate Keeper that she didn’t know but they were highly trained people. When asked what training and by whom, she couldn’t tell me. Still don’t have my LLC. They have not submitted docs to my state yet. I expect it will be another month. I’m afraid that is optimistic. Run away as fast as you can from this group.

If I could give LegalZoom no stars I would in a minute. This should be called Legal Zoo. Here is what I'm dealing with at the moment: One month ago I asked LZ to dissolve an S-Corp that has no assets and no sales. The company never took off. LZ said they needed to file an annual report to the state of DE where the company was incorporated. They told me the fees and I paid them. That seemed easy enough. It wasn't of course. LZ called me four more times because there was a "problem" with my order. The CS people do not listen and screwed up information that I gave THE FIRST TIME.
After the third call, I figured it was all sorted out. I was wrong. They called me 15 minutes ago to inform me there was another "problem" with my order. I now owe another $460.00 in additional fees to the state of DE, so they claim. I was furious. I said, "What is this for, exactly? I already paid for the filing fees." Charlie in customer service, who wouldn't give me his last name, said he thinks it's a late fee. He thinks? Wow. You should know. I was hot. You don't know but you want my money. Unbelievable. Dion ** is the CS supervisor. I can't seem to get that person on the phone. NEVER, EVER USE THIS SERVICE FROM LEGALZOOM. They are unprofessional, incompetent, unreliable, and unbelievable. Clowns.

We submitted our documents for LLC through LegalZoom. Our package came with a free consultation. After we received the consultation, the representative started calling us to continue with the services at a fee. We were very clear repeatedly that we did not want the services but they charged our account anyway (This is the first unauthorized transaction). Last week they made their 2nd unauthorized transaction. I called and after being called a liar over the phone, they reimbursed us partial of the money and were told that it was going to be sent back to our bank account and it would take 3 to 5 days. (Lie #1.) I called back on the 4th day and spoke with a representative in the treasury department (please do not call it accounting department). Representative said that the reimbursement did not go through and we would have to be reimbursed by check and all checks were processed on Fridays and they would send it out last Friday.
I called yesterday to make certain that it was processed because of their inconsistencies and I was called a liar several times AGAIN, that he was not going to transfer me to the treasury department and that it was going to take 4 to 6 weeks for me to receive the check. (Lie #2.) I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor and she communicate with me that on my account there are notes stating that the check was processed and it was mailed out. Why didnt the first representative gave me that information? These people are money hungry, unprofessional and not consistent with what they tell the customers. When they post a revision in their document center, their template reflects the revisions, but the document with the new order number does not reflect any changes. Their customer service does not acknowledge the situation, and instruct the client to submit another revision, and that it will be another 4-5 days. I had hired LegalZoom for several things we needed where an attorney was necessary. We had used them for Wills and Power of Attorney forms and although the price was more than others quoted, happy with the results. I needed to apply for a trademark with the Trademark Government Office for a business we started so thought use LegalZoom for this. I had already done a trademark request on my own for another business and received a letter from the Government office stating not all the documentation was received and needed another form. So this time around, thought use LegalZoom to make sure it was done correctly, even though the cost was high for the work needed. I wanted it done right.
After paying a fee well over 400 dollars for this service, which is basically a form you can fill in on the Trademark website, 4 months later which is the norm, I received a letter from the Trademark government office. I was told a disclaimer was needed to be filed on the name used to get the trademark. I reached out to LegalZoom and told them what I received and would they please take care of this issue. I was told I would need to talk to an attorney and that it would cost another 295.00 for this to happen with them. I stated to LegalZoom that for what I had paid to get this trademark filed, if any issues would arise, I would think their office would correct any concerns. And frankly, when initially filing, I thought LegalZoom would make sure that all bases would be covered like a disclaimer needed here, so no issues would arise. "Too bad, it’s your problem" I was told.
LegalZoom should have filed the Trademark request the correct way right from the beginning in that any attorney who handles this type of work, would know to make sure no disclaimers or other items that might be needed for approval would be addressed right from the beginning when they first filed. Not happy at all considering I used them for several things. And it seems just interested in getting paid and then no follow up with any issues they should have known would arise when first filing if they did their homework. Cannot recommend this company.
Hi Michael, we're really sorry you feel this wasn't the best experience. Please keep in mind LegalZoom is not a law firm and all applications are filed under your specific direction. We bought a trust bundle. When the documents were produced it turned out they have a bug in their system that produced an invalid pour over will. They acknowledged the issue and offered to provide a Word document version so I can edit it myself. Had I not caught it I would have ended up with a will that missed special guardian instructions for one the parents. Yikes. Then they refused to refund me.
Hi Miki, although we are not aware of any known issue with the pour-over will section of the Living Trust documents, we have communicated a resolution with you directly in effort to try to regain some of your satisfaction. Updated on 12/13/2018: I filed a complaint with the company and was subsequently advised that they had destroyed my original documents. Thereafter, no response was forthcoming by LegalZoom. The response I did receive was an AUTOMATED letter advising me to contact their office through "help". Obviously they do not care about customer service or personal contact. STAY AWAY.
Original Review: I retained LegalZoom to prepare and file a DBA for me. They delayed it and did not communicate with me. Thereafter I cancelled my order. I requested that original documents be returned. I was just informed (after ten day) that the documents were not available. These people are predatory frauds and at the very least INCOMPETENT.

I formed a business in 2013. The initial fees were high, but LegalZoom made it easy to get started. The problem came after the sale. They have continued to charge me for services almost 3 years after the business was dissolved. I have tried to reset the password on my account many times, but have never received an email to reset the password (Yes, I checked Junk and Spam). When I did get a representative on the phone, I was offered another package to file the paperwork to dissolve my business and was informed that the fees for Registered Agent will not stop until the business is dissolved or I change the registered agent. The business was dissolved on 2-17-2016.

I ordered an estate plan bundle in 2015. The product itself was great. No issues. One year later I get billed $119 for annual fee for Legal Advantage Plus program. I never signed up for this and no clue about it. I tried to get a refund but they said they can cancel it going forward but too late for refund. In 2017, I need to change my estate plan so I used bought another estate plan bundle. Again the product was great, no issues. But now I just got billed another $119 for annual fee for Legal Advantage Plus Program. And no refund. I canceled online and they even have a reason code in the drop down selection called "I didn't realize I was a Member". How blatant can you be that you are scamming people by signing them up for this program without their knowledge and billing them 1 year later. It utterly ridiculous and a complete scam.

DO NOT USE LEGALZOOM, not ethical. The website doesn't make it clear that you are being charged $250 for the registered agent option. When I went to check out it only showed the $199 price... So I put in my credit card (no indication of other charges later). Then the receipt I receive AFTER I purchased shows the $199 and then "see below" and in small print it states that they will be charging me $250 annually to be the registered agent. I was shocked. Thought this was a mistake when I looked at my cc statement and then gave them a call. They said it was not a mistake. I then went back on the site to see if I missed something. I put in the same exact information as I did when I was making the initial purchase (thinking I'd see where I added this option) again and came to the same pricing page saying I would pay $199.
Thinking I missed something I called their sales line. It wasn't until I spoke to them that they said I needed to click a very small button to not be charged this amount. MY PROBLEM - They ARE NOT UPFRONT WITH THIS CHARGE AND ARE TRYING TO HIDE IT. I called support to get my money back and they said I now have to go through a whole goose chase with the state to change the information.
After going on the state's website, I'm pretty sure I could have filed the whole thing for $50 and saved a lot of hassle. *If LegalZoom wants to respond to this, please do not tell me to contact support, as I've done that and you said you will not return my money. Again - avoid at all costs - plenty of other ways to file an LLC that is ethical. I see others have had this same issue - I'm so upset that I'm thinking of taking them to small claims court, and I'd recommend other people with the same complaint do the same.
We truly apologize for any misunderstanding. Our registered agent service is only an option to our business customer. All fees are outlined in the questionnaire, order review prior to payment & your order confirmation. The attachments you provided show the option, the price & when to expect charges. We can cancel & issue any necessary refund for services but you will need to elect a new agent with the state. Please contact help@legalzoom.com a direct contact for a manager who can help further.

Signed up to use LegalZoom to file my LLC. Fairly easy, good amount of money to file and use LegalZoom. Done and done. What is interesting is now I needed to get a letter for my LLC filing in the mail that never came. I called to see what's going on and come to find out that they were on file as my registered State agent (which also doesn't make sense I can be my own), never billed me all these years and say I owe either over a thousand dollars, -or- they're "running a promotion right now" to waive these fees for $99.
It has the cost with a line through it saying regular fees and then just a big 99 next to it, like one of those fake sale advertisements you'd see. It's just SO shady and for something I don't need... basically someone to receive my mail and forward it on to me a week later. Or in this case only scan online. Now keep in mind I've never received an email, invoice, even attempted billed at any point for YEARS. The customer service rep I was on the phone with was very surprised too. It's so weird, and the whole thing is still up in the air.
Hi Robb, registered agent services have always been only an option. Many elect LegalZoom for the extra layer of privacy since agent information is public online but you can always be your own agent. I check the compliance calendar to figure out what might have caused this and noticed that they failed to notify me of the requirement to file an annual report in the first calendar year. I opted for LegalZoom to start my LLC. I have nothing positive to report on my experience. The entire process from start to finish felt very dishonest and exploitative, like going in for routine repairs on a vehicle and walking away with a $600 bill. While purchasing business registration services online, I found myself having to repeatedly unclick add-on services that were described in such a way that made them sound like required services to start my small business. Somehow, I made it to the end and purchased only the services I knew I needed. My total bill was roughly $300.
After being charged the initial amount, I discovered two weeks later I had been charged an additional several hundred dollars. I contacted LegalZoom about this discrepancy. Evidently, my account indicated I had elected for one of those add-on services. I am 100% certain I did not, as I recall being very annoyed and double-checking I had unselected all of the boxes.
"No problem," the lady told me, I just had to wait several weeks to receive documents from LegalZoom, then contact the State myself and submit additional documents, then wait several weeks for that reply, at which point I could contact LegalZoom again, via official mail notice, of course, and they would have no problem helping me out by returning the funds they essentially stole from me. Not to mention the fact that I was on hold for over 30 minutes before I could reach someone. Do it yourself or find a better option. Google LegalZoom reviews. They are all terrible. And, LegalZoom isn't even accredited.

They never called to let me know vital paperwork was missing. They are like locus calling to collect payment though. Turns out they didn't even set up the sole proprietorship as I requested. They set me up as a corporation which is NOT what I wanted. They didn't even call to get authorization to make this change! Now I have the IRS sending me alarming letters expressing that there will be fines for neglecting to file the proper forms! I paid this company way too much money to be dealing with this!
I called LegalZoom to find out what was going on. I was told that I (again, the layman) should have filled out the appropriate papers in the starter packet. I asked why no one called me to let me know there was a problem! I asked why the hell did they set up a corporate business instead of a small independent business like I originally authored without being consulted! All I got was the runaround and a suggestion that I should pay my accountant to do it WHEN I HAVE ALL READY PAID OVER TWO GRAND TO LEGALZOOM TO DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! I have been ripped off! They did NOT prove the service that was contracted AND paid for! STAY AWAY! Go elsewhere! This is a company that expects payment for just showing up for work but will not provide the appropriate services.
It's important to us to try and correct any misunderstanding or an error in the service. The DBA (sole proprietor) application is completely different than a corporation questionnaire. After having spent at least two hours with different people from the LegalZoom staff, who were either incompetent or just plainly lying to me, one employee said to me: "you can obtain the EIN yourself, directly from the IRS, it will be much faster at this point".
That is the only piece of advice which turned out to be useful: I obtained my EIN within a couple days... In other words, the LegalZoom team were absolutely incapable to achieve one of the key tasks of registering an LLC. DO NOT USE LEGALZOOM. I wish I had made my research upfront. When I realized this was not a necessary move to provide the assistance necessary in our community I attempted to cancel their service. I had paid the initial large fee and gave them a credit card. When I called them to cancel, they said I couldn't until I contacted the IRS... I had never contacted the IRS, the Franchise Tax Board or any government entity that was the service LegalZoom was to suppose to do and they continued a monthly billing through my credit card with Chase Bank. I never asked for a refund or disputed any payment until I asked them to cancel the charge. So I cancelled it through Chase, however charges began to appear again and I called Chase back, evidently they can only "dispute" and if LegalZoom continues to send in the charges I have to pay or dispute... So now I received a notice from FTB assessing a penalty fee of $50.
I called Chase again and they put me on hold to talk to LZ then came back and said they were on hold with LZ too long so they would file another dispute... Yeh...I'm confused too. So never do business with LegalZoom. Evidently it is not a good idea to set up payments with a credit card according to Chase. The process has been anything but There has been almost continuous calls with customer service regarding my company name, filing status as well as duplication of emails and calls for the same issues. One instance in particular is, LegalZoom wanted me to consult my licensure board and/or a lawyer to determine if I needed to file a Professional LLC or a LLC taking 2 days longer than necessary.
They should know, after everyone they claim to have assisted what requires and what does not require a Professional LLC versus an LLC. From my understanding, the process of application through the Secretary of State, should only take 1-2 business days at the most. I am now 8 days into the process. I would recommend to anyone who needs or wants to file for an LLC, they avoid the nuisance/hassle of filing with LegalZoom and go through a lawyer's office. Just my opinion and experience.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND LOOKING ELSEWHERE FOR LEGAL HELP. I purchased an LLC from LegalZoom on Aug. 31st. Due to "system issues" on LegalZoom's side, I received an error message that told me my payment did not go through. However, the payment has been deducted from my bank account. I have had to make numerous phone calls- all of which have taken large chunks of time (30 mins to over an hour), emails, have provided the reference number proving payment has been made, have sent screenshots of the payment, etc. I have been run in circles, made empty promises, and have had weeks of my time wasted. I am extremely dissatisfied with LegalZoom's service. They have taken my money and have made no indication that they will be delivering my product any time soon.

In May I sent in my information to LegalZoom to start my LLC. I purchased the 30 day package. What a mistake. It’s now September and I still haven’t received my LLC. Three times the state has rejected the paperwork for “register agent”. I’ve called LZ numerous times and I keep getting a run around. The last call I told LZ I want a full refund. I was told I would get a return call 24-48 hours. That a manager needs to review my account and they have to call the state to cancel the order. No call back. I used this supposed service to save time. My credit card was charged $353. And the other day $159 for “register agent”. It clearly states that my card wouldn’t be charged till the paperwork was approved by the state. I’m going to my bank tomorrow and having them reverse the charges. Terrible company. I will not recommend LegalZoom.

Called the number and a high-pressured salesperson would not answer who authorized the withdraw, he just continued to tell me of the wonderful services I would get. I finally had to get rude and demand the money be put back in my checking. You would think a company with legal knowledge would know you cannot take money out of an account without authorization.

I purchased a standard business name using LegalZoom. Not because it was a difficult process but because I thought it would save me time. I was wrong about that. Every other day I was getting emails telling me that action was required. I had to call them and wait on hold for up to 1 hour to be told about issues that we already discussed. After finally getting the documents to sign I sit there for at least ten minutes reading them. The instructions clearly say DO NOT alter anything on these pages. Just sign and return. So I do. Held up again. An hour on the phone and another week past. They tell me I did not fill out a form and I need to resend. Enough for me. Requested a refund. So it turns out this is NOT a helpful service and in fact, I would have spent less time if and money if I would have done it myself.

I signed up for LegalZoom on August 15 and I am still getting the runaround with them after they incorrectly filled out the DocuSign document for my business, asking me repeatedly to sign for someone else. What kind of legal advice is that? I had to insist that I would not sign for someone else’s name and under a title I do not have (registered agent). After they finally believed me that they had filled out the electronic signature line incorrectly, they decided to make me do more work (again). Instead of correcting the DocuSign document, they attached it to an email for me to print, sign, scan and return.
I just moved and this is not an easy endeavor. It also represents more of my time. I have called at least six times in three days and wasted almost two hours of my time and they continue not to solve the problem. Calling in to speak with a manager will get you nowhere. I was actually told just now that there is no manager to speak to. They don’t take calls. I am not the kind of customer to make a complaint. I don’t think I ever have before. Honestly, I suspect LegalZoom is a complete scam.

They start hounding me trying to get me to sign a $1800 a year accounting service. I had to block their number. I then start receiving spam email from many other companies stating they are "partnered with LZ".
Finally, the higher Tier has many options that you have to actively call to cancel. Months of calling in to cancel services I never wanted. I unchecked every box possible and still they keep assigning services. I finally called in for another charge and told them I didn't authorize the charge. The tech on the phone just says "Well, it was part of some gold package and it is clear as day." I can now see how this company is getting 1-star reviews. Aug 13, 2018 -- I don't know what happened to LZ in the past few years-- we have used them on more than 1 occasion with no issues. This time we filed a trademark using their basic services which came with 30 day free trial of their lawyer referral service. We took them up on the offer and spoke with the attorney who advised us to change the wording of our statement and class from 13 to 35-- the info was so broad that the USPTO rejected it. When I called LZ for help I got Max who said he'd find out my options and blind transferred me -- after 22 mins Ray answered. Said he only does the attorney referral scheduling and put me back in the queue -- then go Don who after explaining everything AGAIN transferred me to "trademark team" -- Antonio.
Now up until this guy I was just waiting to get help -- Antonio was rude. He kept talking over me. He said because I didn't have the legal package there was nothing they (LZ) could do. I said we took LZ up on the offer to consult with a lawyer and now that there is an issue with that person's advise LZ wants to wash their hands of it. I asked for his supervisor. He said he isn't in then finally told me the name Andrew **. Antonio said Mr. ** is on business trip; who's taking his calls; he said no one. Asked for ** title -- MANAGER. What company doesn't have it set up for another manager to cover. We spent over $650 to have a lot of headaches. My advice to you if you're reading this: DON'T BOTHER WITH LZ; THEY ARE NOT THE COMPANY THEY USED TO BE. IF YOU'RE GOING TO END UP FIXING IT YOURSELF WHY NOT JUST DO IT ALL YOURSELF.

Rather like the review before me, was paying $165 a year for basic legal filings. I should have done it and not been lazy, but the company was refreshing and a hero for me when it launched - flat price, affordable legal. Wow. 6 years later they have resorted to low life tactics that come from some other desperate industries like the gym industry - they will do anything to make you pay.
I called customer service and said that I received an email that I will be RENEWED at $499. WTF? So I log in and check and see I was billed last year at $499. I DID NOT APPROVE THAT. But, hey, yes I could have missed the email but still, hey $165 to $499? They should have worked a little harder to confirm that before charging me that, but let's move on and at least stop the next one. So, I called customer service somewhat anxious to stop any more charges since I am not working at the moment and what happened next totally shocked me and showed me how much they disrespect their customers.
Luckily, I have a ton of lawyer friends. They told me to calm down and call my bank. I'm upset because a great company is now plain derisable dirt. They also threatened me in a cheap manner. I'm not a happy customer. In the slightest. It's like being mugged (I understand she works in a call center, I get it, I've done that job when I was 18, truly sucks... I'm not mad at her, just the bozo Product Manager who clearly is from a desperate industry). The call was recorded I was told. I hope they do use it for training and quality purposes. I am sure they don't, I speculate that they keep it to have a legal hold over you when it works in their favor. I hope they review that and learn from it and improve. No more dollars or endorsements from me anymore for them. Seriously recommend that customers not buy any recurring services from them until they are sure they won't be ripped off. I canceled this service on July 3, 2018, just prior end of the free trial. So imagine my unpleasant surprise when I found a credit card charge for $39.99 from July 28, 2018, for the renewal of the Business Advantage Service that I had canceled on July 3rd. Wow. I am very displeased with my LegalZoom experience. First when my documents were sent to me toward the end of the allotted time it had the wrong information. I notified CS and it was sent back for correction. Waited over a week. Checked on status. Nothing was submitted. New CS rep resubmitted as urgent. Said I would get an email in 48 hours. No email. Called again. CS rep took a while (not his fault) to sort things out then sent my revised documents. 27 pages I was told to print. So here I have them finally... 27 pages with no direction on what to do with them, except have to get a notary and then mail them back. There were about 4 pages with a notary signature space all for different counties than the one I live in. Called CS again. So it turns out I only needed one of the 27 pages and no notary... Does anybody know what they are doing over there?
Also asked a representative if my name was approved so that I can make pay for a logo and she said yes. I made and paid for the logo then received a letter that the documents were finally submitted to the state but that doesn't mean the name was approved... Great! And not even a letter of acknowledgment from the company about any of this. Guess I have no choice but to write complaints and bad reviews. This definitely takes the zoom out of LegalZoom for me. So here I sit going on 2 months no closer to my goal... probably much more delayed than if I had just done the legwork myself. How wonderful it would be to be offered some sort of compensation for such lousy service.

Hoping not to get caught while doing a credit card charge, LegalZoom charged my business account without any notification $299, because they claim this is their registered agent fee for state of Colorado. They are such a good registered agent that the business was allowed to go delinquent since 2016 without any notification from them. I had cancelled all services from them two years ago, yet, nobody at LegalZoom alerted me to the fact they would hold on to my credit card to bill this amount whenever they felt like it or that it would even occur. Sounds like theft to me!
Hi Stephen, we hate to hear you we're charged for registered agent services if the state has dissolved your business. Unfortunately, they do not automatically notify us of any entity status changes. Any delinquency notices are sent directly to the business contact address or email & not the registered agent. We apologize for any miscommunication & we'd like to resolve things. I created an LLC with LegalZoom back in 2012. Unfortunately, My business filed for bankruptcy in 2014 due to poor location, bad landlord, you name it, it happened. Anyway, after dissolving the business, I had moved on with my life. I received a charge in 2018 for a compliance and registered agent package. This was obviously either a mistake or the state of New York was unaware of by business dissolution. So I went on LegalZoom to try and get this business properly dissolved.
I purchased the standard package. I was immediately notified by LegalZoom that my business was not recognized in the state of New York as of August 2016. My lawyer did a bang up job handling my case, obviously. So I spoke with Denise from LegalZoom, who was very helpful and extremely friendly. We realized that the compliance and registered agent package was a mistake, and I am receiving a full refund for the dissolution package and the compliance registered agent package. This was handled extremely fast and I am happy to say Denise was great! and I would recommend LegalZoom to anyone for anything.
Hi Liza, we'd like to apologize again regarding any charges received after your business was officially dissolved with the state. Unfortunately we weren't notified of the status update and we're glad everything has been resolved. We work really hard to make our customers feel like they are in good hands, so we're happy to see that reflected in your experience. In November of 2014 I used LegalZoom to create an LLC. As a part of this process, they assign themselves to act as your registered agent. When I signed up, this was a $159 a year expense. Then in 2017 they sent out an email saying they were raising the yearly fee for a registered agent to $299, nearly double what it cost prior. This was too much, in my opinion, for a small business like mine. Furthermore, their registered agent for my account didn't even do anything. As a matter of fact, they didn't notify me of state renewal obligations and my business license in Washington state expired! So you're paying them a yearly fee for them to do nothing and let your licenses expire.
So when I saw they were doubling the registered agent fee, I went to my LegalZoom account and tried to update it so a coworker who is a CPA could be my registered agent, but they don't let you! There is literally nowhere on the site where you can remove or change the registered agent status. I submitted a ticket to customer service explaining I wanted to remove them as my registered agent and update it to someone else and they told me I would need to submit some random certificate to the state to update it, yet not linking anywhere where to get this, or outlining the process at all, essentially giving an impossible scenario to accomplish for someone with little legal experience (aka everyone using LegalZoom since that's why they exist).
I further communicated that I do not wish to pay the $299 fee since that isn't what I agreed to when signing up for the account. I had a feeling they were going to charge me anyway so I updated the payment to a credit card that I had maxed out. Sure enough they tried processing the payment in November of 2017, and continued trying to process that payment for the next 6 months! I couldn't make a payment on that credit card as they would have charged me this service that I had been trying to change, but not allowed to, for months. Seriously, their company practices are horrendous. Avoid using them.

I obviously wanted Delaware since I got and paid for the register agent but they tell me I now have to file a $250 dissolution and re-register. Worst service ever! Customer service never has answers, management is never available when you call to address issues, and deadlines are never met. I started with LegalZoom on May 16th, 2018 for incorporation of a new company I was starting. They said the process would take 3-4 weeks. It is now July 23rd, 2018 (almost 10 weeks later) and I still do not have my product/package from them. Over the past 10 weeks they have contacted me 2 times. Once on (5/21/18) to get my article of incorporation document resigned after they instructed me that I had checked a box on the form I shouldn't have, and another time (6/6/18) to ask me a question about the same document where there was a box that needed to be checked (which it was on the first document). During this 2 week period it appears they made no progress with my order and could barely review the documents to ensure they were correct prior to submission.
During the process one of the times I had called in the middle of June to get a "status check" since their system just provides unmet completion times & ETA's they informed me that there was a delay in processing with my state's Corp Commission but I could upgrade my service package for an additional fee that would speed things up, which I did. That was just some more money wasted.
They seem to be oblivious to the fact that I can see that the AZ Corp Commission has approved my articles of incorporation 2 weeks ago (7/10/18) and my new company shows as "active" but continue to say that they "are waiting" due to a "delay" with the state which is also obviously not true. Now every time I call, there is no manager available to speak to, and they continue to tell me the delay is with the AZ Corp Commission, or now (today) part of the excuse was that they had ordered my EIN, like what have they been doing the last 10 weeks???

I decided to utilize LegalZoom to assist me with my non-profit. I paid for the expedited package back in June 2018. Someone at LegalZoom incorrectly listed a name for a director that I had not provided them with, which caused them to have to submit an amendment package. After numerous calls I was refunded a partial amount for the expedited amount. Three weeks later, the process is still not completed. I check the process online and the updates are slow, which forces me to constantly have to call into LegalZoom.
I am told my documents were submitted to the state, although the status history does not reflect that online. I have no confidence in this company at this point. I sincerely believe I could have done this work myself and had less challenges and spent a lot less money. At this point I guess I continue to wait because I have no choice. I genuinely believe this was a waste of both my time and money. I keep my fingers crossed that at some point my issue is resolved. I won't return to them for future guidance/help.

They have changed the name on my account 2 times and refused to speak with me. The first time it took them 2 days to fix their own error and then charged twice for it finally refunding the first charge. They would not refund the error on their part until I had paid a second time. No compensation for it at all.
This time they changed the name on my account to the client's name, refuse to talk to be again and demand that the client (non-english speaking) call them to fix the problem. Of course, when you call them they don't answer, promise to call you back and then we receive 5 phone calls with no one on the other end of the line from LegalZoom. All they will tell me is to haul in the client who has nothing to do with this and for him to make this bogus unanswered call that won't be returned.
In the meantime do I get a refund??? LOL, I think you can figure this out. I repeatedly called them, emailed them etc to explain that they did not have permission to charge my cc ever again. I also stated that I had my own CPA that was doing my quarterly taxes, IRS filings, etc. Last year I dismantled the corporation because it never went 'live'. I was just paying the IRS taxes to keep it open, the IRS up'd their fee by 400% last year so my CPA and I decided to close the corporation. Today, I received an email from a attorney stating that I owed LegalZoom $159.00. I am furious; I'm having to contact my CPA to prove the corporation was closed down last year. I signed up with LegalZoom to create my LLC 5 years ago. The process of setting up the LLC was simple and fast. Since then, through convenience, I continued to use them for registered agent services. Unfortunately, LegalZoom raised their fee for this service on my account last year from $159 to $399, and then to $499 this year (Meanwhile they are advertising online their current fee for this service is still $159). Since I significantly downsized my business early last year, I decided to dissolve my LLC through them, since the overall cost of running my business no longer makes sense for me. Unfortunately this process is taking 6 months at this point and I have to sign up for another year of registered agent fees.
I have since switched that service to another company who only charges $49/year (a huge difference from the $499 they want to charge me). I feel as if LegalZoom is trying to take advantage of their existing business customers by increasing their autorenewal services by hoping they don't notice the email notification regarding the increase in fees and the increased charge on their account. Due to my negative experience with the overcharging of registered agent service and the slow process of dissolving my LLC, I would not recommend this company. In the past, I have contemplated using some of their other services for personal matters, but given this experience, I would rather a more reputable company for those matters or any future business needs I may have.

Not only did I not want this but it was not in the pricing breakdown. I tried to talk to their customers service expecting them to fix it, instead they offered to charge me an extra fee to fix it. I developed a business name that represented products my business will produce. The name search stated the business name appears to be available so I continued with the purchase. Upon further business name search (now that you have my money) the name was not available. I was presented with the only option of submitting alternative business names, which I did... about three times. By this time, the business name did not represent the products produced. Had I been presented with the option to cancel the order after the original was not available, I would have... but you reeled me in by not presenting that option. So I was left with a business name that was of no use to the business plan.
After my dissatisfaction with that, I canceled my business advantage and business advantage pro packages to save the worries of more deception. I later returned to the original business name search as if I was starting from scratch. Guess what... The original name was available although it is known to not be available. I guess all business names are available until you have the customer's money. If I could undo everything that I started with you, I would. To conclude, it would have responsible of LegalZoom to display the option of cancelling the order after the original business name was not available, not only the option of submitting alternative names. The hassle could have ended right there.

I had set the accounts to automatically renew the Registered Agent Services each year. This year when reviewing my checking account, I saw an unexpected charge for $499 to my account. When I went to look at my account online, I see where several extra services had been added to my account that I don't need or want. The normal $159 per year had been up-charged to the $499.
I called to find out who had authorized this change and was told that an email was sent out a month ago, advising that if I didn't want these upgrades, I needed to call in. I had only authorized the $159 and it is completely unethical to add an additional $250 unless I happen to catch an email and follow through with a call to their marketing department. This borders on fraud in my opinion. It would seem that they must receive prior authorization to charge my credit card for additional services that I didn't order. Placing the requirement on the customer to take the overt act of calling them, and only sending this notification in a single email, is certainly a highly questionable business practice.
