Was trying to set up a llc that I could afford, I found a package I could afford. Was excited. As soon as it was set up the payments to work with my monthly bills it got up on hold. Said need more info. Tried doing it through emails nothing. No replies, then this Saturday they put a 310 dollars charge. For what was a 270 package and paid almost 90 of it. Have I copy of the agreement. So I spent two hours getting passed around not helped then finally talked to someone about it and she said it for a subscription that I never got. Ask her to cancel the whole thing and refund me my money since nothing had been done and she wouldn’t cancel it. Just keep says I’m going to put it on hold. This is shady, over charges for things I didn’t ask for or agree to! So on that note refund money money. I don’t want your services.
Hi Gustavo, thanks for reaching out and providing a copy of your invoice. We’d like to point out the subscription charges were outlined in the questionnaire along with an explanation of when to expect charges. In the invoice, you’ll notice the “see below” section under the “Legal Protect” section – where it reinforces the explanation provided in the online questionnaire. We are truly sorry for any misunderstanding and/or confusion caused on our part. As requested, the order has been cancelled and refunded in full. Please let us know if there’s anything else we can help with.

I've been a LegalZoom member since 2017. I used their service for incorporating a business and it went pretty smoothly. Then the same thing now, I used them and it went smoothly as well. It was easy to incorporate ‘cause they did most of the work. I just had to get some information and they were able to implement everything and do all the licenses and stuff. They’re very good people and I’ve had no problem with anybody that I've talked to.

I had LegalZoom do a last will and testament. It seemed easier to get it done with them in a short period of time. I could do it quickly online and the follow up was very quick as well in getting the materials done properly. However, when I went to do it, I also recommended that I'd do another document, which I got started off then realized that I did not need it. I called LegalZoom and they said that they'd cancel that out. But ever since then, I get an email every other day from them saying that I haven't completed it. It's unpleasant. I wish they stop sending a follow up email. But overall, I was very happy. It was quite easy to accomplish the goal and I found it very simple to follow the directions they gave.
Hi John, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We'll work stopping those follow up emails right away. Please let us know if we can help with anything else.

I have used LegalZoom to incorporate on two separate occasions and both times they have tried to charge me a $159 "automatic renewal fee" for registered agent services. Anyone who does a simple google search can see that this same service can be obtained for less than $50 / year. They make no attempt to contact you about the bill, send no email, and never call. You only find out about the amount due when they send it to a third party collection agency TWO YEARS later! It's ridiculous! DO NOT do business with these guys unless absolutely necessary. It's not worth it!
Hi Joseph, our registered agent service is only offered as an option to our business customers and we assure you all fees are outlined in the questionnaire. We offer the option to elect LegalZoom to serve as your agent or name another (including yourself). The service was described up front as being $159 per year and has only recently been increased. We've confirmed your agent was updated with the state in 2017, however your outstanding balance is for the 2016 renewal period. We attempted outreach and tried to process payment but we were unsuccessful at every attempt. As a result, the account was transferred to our collection agency. Please contact us directly so that we may settle your account balance.

I turned off autopay on my services almost a year ago because I closed my business. Legalzoom emails me multiple times to pay for the services, which I replied, “no longer needed since I closed my business.” Today I received a letter from a collection agency demanding payment for the services I turned off almost a year ago.

There's tons of other reviews on here about how bad their registered advisor service is. But even if you DO pay for this service, you will STILL get a letter in the mail from Caine and Weiner -- LegalZoom's extremely rude, unprofessional debt collectors. Apparently I owe $159 from 2016 -- which shows as paid in my LegalZoom dashboard. And can you get through to LegalZoom to tell them to call off their collectors? Nope! 1 hour plus wait times just to pick a random line to try to get a person, as there certainly is nothing in the phone tree to get you to someone for anything other than buying services.
And the Caine and Weiner people are extremely rude. They'll refuse to give their name, say there's no one else to talk to (there's only one person in the office or something?) and say that it's up to ME to get LegalZoom to tell them the account is paid. Terrible company that has terrible service that will send terrible debt collectors after you even after you've paid!
Hi Christopher, we couldn’t be more apologetic about this experience You deserved better and we want to make this right and rebuild our relationship. Ordered an LLC registration just to find out that it was registered under the name of the organizer. Ok, so that organizer could just sign the Financial Account Authorization Letter right? Except it wasn't sent notarized. After speaking with a very rude and dismissive customer rep, I was told to go to the bank and notarize it myself, only the bank doesn't let you notarize something without both parties present (the organizer). It got to the point where my banker actually got on the phone with "Catherine" and began to argue my case and asked that she have a notarized copy sent out to me. She finally conceded and said she would "request" for one to be sent out but has yet to send me a confirmation e-mail and all every attempt of contacting LegalZoom online has been ignored...

I bought the estate package and started out four years ago but then I never finished. I'm almost done now. One thing that was hard to understand was when I first bought the package, I didn't realize that it came with the ability to talk to an attorney free for half an hour. Also, the verbiage on the website does not make that clear. Finally, I got an email that said I needed to consult. I asked if I was paying for it and they said no.

I’ve cancelled my subscription with them last yr as I don’t have my company anymore. They still made me pay them, and told me that they are cancelling my account as I don’t have the business anymore. Since then I’ve never received any letters from them. But yesterday I got a bill from a collection agency saying I owe LegalZoom $159! For what! I called and cancelled my account, and also paid the amount you asked before cancelling. Is this a joke! I’ll write reviews everywhere else including Better Business Bureau if this is not resolved!

I'm trying to set up an LLC for a consulting practice. I was looking for some out of the box help and support to do the filings. LegalZoom seemed to make it easy and they came recommended. It was very easy to complete the task working with them. It just takes money. They were able to provide best practices and provide access to a number of resources that saved me from having to go search for an interview. I can tap into their legal resources, accounting resources and compliance resources pretty easily. It's a very fast and efficient way to get something set up and provide access to some of those resources that otherwise would be very difficult to find and trust.

I opened an LLC through Legalzoom in 2012, cancelled and dissolved the LLC in 2013. Fully paid off the website funds and was even refunded ~$60 for overpayment. Then after my cancellation I was charged another $159 recurring fee without my knowledge. I went back on to check on opening a will 7 YEARS LATER to find late fees had incurred on the $159 and now are up to over $900. No call. No email. No letter in the mail. Nothing. Had no idea this was accumulating. So sneaky and dishonest, clearly the account had been cancelled and inactive and they were apparently more than happy to let it sit and accumulate without any kind of late fee notice. Unbelievable. I’ve reached out to their customer support to get this fixed immediately, hopefully they make it right. Will continue to update you all on this.

-- The directions online and the person who went through our initial application were wrong about the requirements for the name of a nonprofit, causing the first delay.
-- LegalZoom paired us with an attorney who had no non-profit experience. In addition he was 20 minutes late to our 30 minute appointment, he was condescending, and he was thoroughly unprepared.
-- We were charged prematurely for our business advantage account.
-- The accounting firm LegalZoom partners with completely missed our first appointment. The second appointment was made with another professional with no non-profit experience and he was 15 minutes late to our appointment.
-- There is no "submit" button for the form 1023 so if you start on it and continue to work on it, it just submits without your knowledge and then you don't have the ability to get it back to continue working on it.
-- You have to click through multiple links (some of which are hidden) on the LegalZoom website to find the tiny, light grey caveat that the "rush processing" for the Express Gold doesn't include the time it takes the State to get through the paperwork. We chose the $359 package over the $99 package specifically for the rush purpose.
-- I reached out to LegalZoom three times to find out why our application was delayed. Each time they said they would look into it and get back to me. No one EVER got back to me. I had to reach out again for a fourth time to ask what was happening and they told me the day before we were rejected. It turned out we were rejected because of two errors that were made by LegalZoom, not by us. So we were waiting seven weeks to be rejected because of THEIR errors. Then they refused to do anything to make it right. We had to pay the fee to refile, even though it was THEIR errors that caused the need to refile.
Dishonest, unhelpful, terrible business practices.

Although they did a fine job with the Articles of Incorporation, the 501 (c) (3) application was an absolute disaster. Their system of document and process tracking is horrible; they lost my first sets of questions 3 TIMES! Then would send me emails stating I had not responded back to them. (Of course they had never contacted me in the first place!) Do not waste your time or money with this inept group! They did give me my money back, but I wasted 3 months and way too many hours trying to get things resolved. I am so glad I asked for my money back and went somewhere else! I was charged $234 over 6 months without notification for a service I didn't know I had actually signed up for. Their 14 day "trial" of services is continued without any email notification to the user so I had no idea that I was being charged monthly until I happened upon a charge on my credit card. This is a shady practice at best and a purposeful practice at worst to make millions of dollars off of unsuspecting customers. While I did receive countless phone calls to sign up for legal zoom services and extra emails for the same reasons (aka they certainly have my contact info) I never once received a billing email over this 6 month period. I won't be recommending their services to others. Very depressing experience from a company I paid a good deal of money to for Trade Mark services.

BEWARE of the Registered Agent SCANDAL! This company automatically makes itself your business's registered agent and will continue to bill for this so-called service annually, which is literally just a name listing and they claim that they will send you so-called alerts! It's a scandal. I never heard a peep from them until I just received a collection notice in January 2020. They are collecting for supposedly being my Business Registered Agent back five years ago in 2015! Yes, they are so desperate to get revenue that they are billing inactive businesses from 5 years ago!
When I contacted the state of Pa, they told me they get calls ALL THE TIME from people like me all the time, but they can't help. There are so many people who didn't realize they were being scammed by LegalZoom. They should re-name themselves Il-legal Zoom. Contact your state to find out if you can be your own registered agent/office. That's what I did. If only I had known about this option 5 years ago! They have no problem making themselves your agent and billing you, but they are unable to make changes. You have to do that on your own! If I could give them a negative star review I would. They need to realize that they are taking advantage of the unsuspecting. They should be all about customer service, not a disservice. The manager was unreasonable and stuck to his scamming script.

Nor can I download it from my the legal documents folder on the documents tab in my account. These pages all keep crashing or non-responding (issues I had while filling out the online forms as well). Finally, the document was not modifiable while I was filling it out, so I have to cut and paste the entire text from their screen into a word document, reformat all pages, paragraphs, etc. and make the changes I need. At the very least, these limits should be indicated from the outset. Furthermore, unclear why they need a mail address when presumably one wants to receive the documents by email. Total crooks! Received a letter from a collections agency in the mail today from a balance they believe I owed from 2014, for a company that was dissolved in 2015. First red flag: no notification via phone or email that I owed them money, a collections notice was the first notification. I called in only to find out that the $159 balance I was notified by was actually almost $800 now after years of defaulting on payments. I went to their website to log in and figure out what was happening with my old account only to hit a landing page featuring a new promotion they are running, "pay just $99 now to forgive your full balance with LegalZoom!"
I was seconds away from paying the $99 to resolve the terrifying $800 someone on the phone just scared me with but looked at the secretary of state website first to figure out what had happened. Turns out I cancelled my account with Legalzoom one month after founding the LLC in question and didn't owe them a penny. Waited on hold for 2 hours to get a representative at Legalzoom who asked for documentation, I almost paid for official reports on the Sec of State website before saying, "it's literally public information, just look at their website like I'm doing right now". She eventually admitted that it was a mistake on their end, they didn't enter the data properly when I cancelled the account 5 years ago and have been lapsing on autopayments ever since, something they NEVER FOUND THE NEED TO NOTIFY ME ABOUT VIA EMAIL OR PHONE.
What a MASSIVE headache, many phone calls with the state and hours on hold with legalzoom, not to mention I almost pulled the trigger and gave them MORE money for the bogus promotion they were running in hopes of avoiding the collections agency balance they scared me with. STAY AWAY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!

I also paid an additional fee to expedite the process to 10 days. I come to find out I was charged an additional $159 to have them as my registered agent, I was never asked if I wanted this. I was told in fairness that I would be refunded the expedited fee and I could drop them as registered agent but we would be back at square one.
Initially, I was told I would have to file a PLLC. I found out later this was not needed for a real estate firm. I don’t judge this or any company on their problems, I judge them on how they correct them and as of right now myself and 18 agents have not been able to work for a month. They are not making this problem a priority. I want my LLC finished. I want my refund for the expedited service. Don ** MHC, NC

I really thought this was going to be an easy way to let professionals handle a job, here's what I found out:
1. The mere task of taking my information for an application for my LLC was too much and they failed. As a result, now I have to complete another form from the IRS. Which has delayed my LLC by over two weeks. The simple task of government paperwork, that I wanted to avoid, they failed. They were very quick to blame it on the IRS, but that was not correct. Now all I have is to wait for the IRS to complete the paperwork I had to fill out and send in myself.
2. All I get is telemarketing calls, non stop. Why? Because LegalZoom sells the heck out of your information. Refund? Nope. My advice: Spend a few hours and just do it yourself - this is not worth the money AT ALL.
Hi Brian, first we’d like to assure you that we our customer privacy is very important to us and for this reason, we do not sell any customer data to telemarketing companies. When Legal Zoom first started years ago, it was a great way to quickly and inexpensively set up a corporation. The only issue I had back then is that my business disbanded and LegalZoom threatening to send me to collections for not allowing their RA to continue to bill me their RA fee even though the business no longer existed. The petulant RA sent nasty threatening letters that he was OWED some $500 and was going to take me to court less I paid him. I wrote back -- "sir, the business has not been in business for a few years now." Once my cc expired and he could not longer charge, he threw the biggest tantrum for money...and then relented upon learning the business had dissolved.
I visited Legal Zoom recently, this time with my own RA to bypass their do-nothing fee-based service, I was stunned by the brazen money grab that LegalZoom has become with all the bait and switch tactics and deceptive marketing. Like they offer free legal/accounting services for a trial basis -- unless you scroll waaaaaay down to the bottom of the page and decline. Otherwise, they automatically enroll you and then start billing. There were a lot of these -- they automatically sign you up for expedited (most expensive) processing unless you designate otherwise. And then there are fees upon fees upon fees for things you can do yourself for free and don't even need.
Navigating through the website was like trying to dodge landlines of theft through deception. It's like their marketing people got together, realized the popularity of LegalZoom and decided every way to capitalize on their customer base. Instead of offering more streamlined services and keeping core to their principles, they offer pseudo-legal and other nonsense that any credible business person would be insane to accept. Do you really want legal advice from an assembly line attorney? The whole business model has been so cheapened. It's like Google, that started off making money by tailoring marketing to your search queries to blatantly selling every and any bit of information they could get their hands on to enrich themselves even further, without any regard to benefit to you or harm done.
LegalZoom doesn't create value. Instead if offers the illusion of value through trickery through which it tries to extract money from you for value not provided. Smacks of desperation and greed...and I don't like doing business with greedy, desperate, unprincipled businesses. What was once a great business idea has now become a mass marketing joke.
I guess all the LegalZoom idiots want to become Billionaires through stupid, value-less marketing ploys. Even worse was the demand that you give them your email address IMMEDIATELY upon searching for a legal name....otherwise someone else might grab it, forcing you to pay them to file trademarks? Or forcing you to give them your phone number in order to file through them, with their sad concession that by filing with them, you are giving them permission to sell and market your phone number and allow them to telemarket you with promotions and "offers" and share your phone number with others who wish to market their services to you.
With all the desperate money grabbing, they still can't manage to have any customer service. You'd think they'd at least offshore that portion to India to make sure you can talk to someone....but that would involve investing money and LegalZoom clearly wants to keep as much of your money as possible while providing little by way of value in return. LegalZoom has jumped the shark and become an embarrassment and a disgrace. Don't you just love their "packages" with all the fanfare, selling absolutely nothing of value but at high inflated fees?
No doubt LegalZoom is now under the management of Millennial MBA grads indoctrinated in the wonders of marketing analytics, leveraging, upselling, scaling up, etc and little by way of common sense, confidence building, integrity. The website itself has become very unprofessional. It's like a bunch of teenagers promoting a once useful Messaging app and trying to upsell services like paying $20 more to use animal filters, $100 more to be able to add more than three friends, $500 more to open the audio service.
So they can't process your paperwork in a timely manner UNLESS you fork over $350 more!!! You can get your own EIN for free or pay LZ $150 to do it for you. You can sign up for a RA for $150 or so but they can raise the rate however much they want and demand $15000 the next year -- if you don't pay, they send you to collections....etc.
Who was the stupid, entitled, greedy, degenerate, dumb@ss Millennial who came up with this business model and why would they want to inflict this upon savvy business people? They should be a friend of business people -- to help entrepreneurs set up their businesses in the fastest, most expedient, inexpensive way possible. Instead they look for every way to capitalize upon them while providing the least amount of value in return. The extra fees wouldn't be bad for the convenience -- in an act of good will, they could even have documents for free-- ie, links to EIN paperwork. Did I read correctly...that they have people pay hundreds of dollars if they need state licensing only to sending them a copy of online licensing phone numbers through a quick Google search. What a joke.
For as long as LZ been in business, and this is what it has become? They clearly are not concerned with inspiring or keeping consumer confidence or maintaining their reputation as a business-friendly ally and value-creator..but instead are looking and angling for every way to separate you from your money while they got you on their page. It's like walking into quick sand or a tar pit! There is no commensurate value for the money you give out, creating lots of ill will.
LZ is run by a bunch of idiots...because if LZ had stuck to its basics, it would have been an immensely profitable all on its own. Instead it has created tremendous ill will and become a joke. Do not use this stupid site run by inexperienced, dumb@ss millennials who use greed rather than value creation as a business model. When you go to Legal Zoom, the site screams, GIMMIE, GIMMIE, GIMMMIE..ALL YOUR MONEY NOOOOOOW!
Millennial Legal Zoom idiots, work for a living and run your own business rather than parasiting off the hard work of others with stupid, vacuous scams and schemes. Your "marketing ploys" are stupid, blockheaded, and cringe-worthy. No reputable business person would work with you snotheads! No reputable business provides the scams and bait and switch trickery you people. Of all the value LZ could offer, and this is the stupidity you people come up with? CREATE VALUE, NOT STEAL VALUE or CON IT OUT OF UNSUSPECTING PEOPLE SIMPLY TRYING TO SET UP A BUSINESS, you dumb@ss idiots!

LegalZoom salespeople make everything seem so simple and easy. "Let us form your LLC for you! Pay us $X and save yourself all the time!" Awesome, right? NO. I provided a DETAILED description re: the LLC I wanted to create in the state I wanted it registered in. LegalZoom 1) Registered my LLC out of sequence of required steps re: my state, 2) Failed to disclose what I would have to do to complete the process, 3) I have worked THREE days working through ALL THE OTHER FILING REQUIREMENTS necessary to create my LLC.
I found LegalZoom to be both dishonest and non-transparent about the services they provide relative to what IS required to formulate an LLC in my state. THEY ARE ALL ABOUT SELLING THEIR PRODUCTS. I HAVE WAITED THREE BUSINESS DAYS AND COUNTING TO SPEAK WITH A SUPERVISOR!! AVOID...and save your money.

Our company made the mistake of using LegalZoom as a core vendor to assist in a series of LLC and LP related matters. We've been billed in excess of $3,000 in the past 90 days, with 20 minute phone call waiting times when need to speak with a human contact at the company. Exceptionally frustrating especially considering the time-sensitive nature of much of the work. We certainly be taking my business elsewhere and you should consider doing so, as well.

I thought it was worth it to pay a professional. So I paid a premium for expedited LLC service. LegalZoom made typographical errors with no review causing significant delays. Tried to make me pay for THEIR mistakes. Multiple phone calls, and message exchanges; they do not followup on documents that they are sent. They made further mistakes on the corrected documents too! I would send their requested document the day the asked for it, then 3 days later they would ask me for the same document and claim that "I" was holding them up!! Took over a month to get my LLC corrected.
They offered no reconciliation and upon lots of conversation agreed to credit $100 back, which THEY NEVER FULFILLED. Go to a reputable representative please. Colossal waste of time and money. Over nearly 6 weeks I had to invest 6-8 hours with Legal Zoom on calls, hold, waiting to fix a freaking typo error they made. I should have done the paperwork myself for $100 and called it a day. They got $700 of my money for screwing around with my time.

The Account Executive was a very smooth talker and I took what he was saying at his word. Never ask for a contract or a statement of services. But, I should have. Every time, I ask about something it get told it is an additional cost. Even though when we talked about it as part of the package it was there (buyer beware). It seems like that is with everything I ask for assistance with. Even, though they charge you three times more and you get a team because of all the bells and whistles. It has turned into a huge joke. Stay away for this part of LegalZoom. Stay with the do it yourself and only get the parts that you need. Their sales team will only upsell you and disappoint.

LegalZoom is not concerned with providing people value. Once they get you hooked do not expect sound advice starting your business. Do expect fear tactics such as e-mails to have you subscribe to their products as well as stealth tactics such as their automatic and annual renewal as them (actually another company name and address) hidden in the process of creating your business. Legalzoom and their ilk hide in the gray areas between legal and illegal behavior as well as showing no sense of ethics.
If you did get caught in their Registered agent con-game remember the following steps at least for those in New Jersey.
1. Fill out Form C-104G that can be found online. DO NOT pay for this form!2. Pay for filing based on the schedule on the form in the lower left corner.
3. Mail to New Jersey Division of Revenue.
Changing the information is simple. Legalzoom will try and charge a fee for correcting their scam while you can do it yourself. Legalzoom will attempt to give you misinformation regarding who is your registered agent (ie their representative will tell you Legalzoom is the registered agent. They are not). Look on your filing certificate. Items 2 and 3 will give you the current registered agents' information (again, this will not be Legalzoom).
Hi Michael, we are very sorry to hear you experience hasn't been the best. Our registered agent services are offered only as an option to our business customers. The questionnaire online provides you with the option to choose LegalZoom to be your agent or to name your own up front - this way preventing any file changes in the future. We apologize for any misunderstanding and/or miscommunication on our part. We're more than happy to answer any of your questions or concerns on updating your agent (without paying any LegalZoom fees) or any other questions you may have. My Not for Profit corporation was closed down over 5 years ago. Legal Zoom was contacted. The corporation was not renewed with the state. Never heard a word from anyone until a collection agency sent me a letter yesterday. This was a group formed to help children and battered women. That shut down! You folks don't bother to send a letter or an email, but send a defunct organization to collections? You had my address, it hasn't changed in 20 years. If you had a question, you could have used it. Your collections agent used it.
This was 5 years ago! I hadn't even logged into the website again until today, and I find you have left it ACTIVE??? I am going to dispute this claim, and if Legalzoom pursues it, I will be sure to write reviews with the Better Business Bureau, this site, on every social media site I can find and talk to the media. Ridiculous, deceptive and underhanded.

On December 13, 2019 I placed an order for an incorporation of an entity with LegalZoom which I have done many times in the past. This time, however, has been a horror show. On January 10 2020 while checking on the status of the order, I realized that NOTHING had been done to date on this order - not even the availability of the name had been confirmed. On Friday Jan 10, 2020 I attempted to contact LegalZoom because we needed the entity set up. After waiting in queue for approx 25 minutes, I spoke to a young lady named Lauren for another 25 minutes only to realize that she did not know what she was doing and was not going to escalate or do anything to get my order (which had been clearly dropped) back on track. I asked to speak to a supervisor. Lauren finally said she would get a supervisor and put me on hold.
After another 25 minutes of waiting, it became clear no supervisor was going to pick up the phone. I called back into their system and was again put on hold in a queue. After another 30 minute wait, I gave up. I called back this time to the sales department (not the 'customer care' queue. This lady also did not know how to help so she put me into yet another queue. I spoke to another lady finally who seemed knowledgeable and said she would get the order back on track. She said I needed to sign some registered agent papers. I said great - fully expecting the registered agent paperwork to be emailed to me imminently. This is 3 HOURS in.
By today of course, no registered agent paperwork. So I called back in and spoke to Joaue - a young lady once again in the 'customer care' center who once again had no idea how to help. She did get Karen, a supervisor, on the phone (now another hour into these calls). Karen promised that the registered agent paperwork would be forwarded TODAY. Now it is almost midnight. No paperwork AGAIN. This package has NEVER EVEN BEEN SENT TO THE STATE OF GEORGIA!!! I have no idea how these people are in business. There is zero follow up; zero customer service; and, apparently, zero expertise. Horrible experience.

I bought the Gold package plus extras and asked for expedited service (paid extra for it). I did this on 12/2/2019. I still don't have a company registered or anything else. They never bothered to get in touch with me regarding this. So, finally I had to cancel the order with them. Wasted a whole month on these liars. I've used LegalZoom several times in the past and I've always been very happy with them. When you request power of attorney documents or wills, LegalZoom is very good with those. I paid for documents for power of attorney and there was no issue. The legal documents were excellent but when I called for an attorney's help on something, he was absolutely no help. He said that he didn't know anything that I could do under the circumstances and offered no direction. He said about five sentences and that was the end of it. It was a waste of money on my part and I wanted to cancel after that.
I'm just back in Philadelphia and trying to re-set up everything. When I get settled in here, I know that LegalZoom was one thing I had to deal with and the very first thing I'm gonna do is unsubscribe. There also used to be just the one-time fee. Now, their arrangements for payment have changed and I have a monthly subscription to it now. I think that's how it works. But I don't wanna be paying monthly, especially after my experience with that one lawyer. I'd rather just pay the one-time fee each time I use them if that's available.
Another thing is that in the past, when I called about and asked for legal information, it shows up on the internet if you just google my name, the case and my questions. My whole conversation with the lawyer showed up. I was furious about that. The lawyer's name was there. He probably wasn't happy either, or maybe he was. It was good advertisement. I told LegalZoom about it and they said they don't give information to anyone. But how was it that my whole case got out to the general public? That was really bad.

My experience with LegalZoom hasn't been pleasant. They made a mistake with the spelling of my name which they couldn't help me with. With the last name like mine, the last thing that I was expecting was my first name to be misspelled. The paperwork had to be changed and it took a little while for me to get the documentation back in. I didn't receive what I thought I needed to receive and I had to go back to them to get the paperwork sent to me. They emailed that to me, I got it printed out to fill with the original paperwork they sent.
At that point, they said since everything had already been sent in and they couldn't contact the IRS, I had to be the one to contact the IRS to get my name changed. I'm still trying to deal with the IRS over their mistake. Although it shouldn't be anything major, it's still the hassle of trying to deal with it. I’ve used LegalZoom in the past and I needed to do some wills for some in-laws. It seemed like a convenient way to do it and get it done without enlisting a lawyer. I was self-directed at the website and there were segments of the website that were confusing. I did a will for my mother-in-law and then afterward, I had the option to add on one for the husband. I attempted to do it, and I was confused. I wasn’t entirely sure what I was and wasn’t paying for. It ended up I did a will through the website for the father-in-law too but I had to cancel out or not use the additional will that I purchased in the original transaction. It was really odd. It was some kind of weirdness in the UI in the way it led the user though this. A couple of programming tweaks would fix it but I’m sure that I’m not the only one who noticed. I wasn’t super happy about that.
You have X number of days to revise your will and print it out, and that’s fine but when you’re dealing with folks who are dealing with wills, they might come back to you and say that they’ve decided that they wanna leave XYZ to Aunt Sally, or so on and so forth. LegalZoom might want to consider additional time to allow for the revision of wills. It could be longer.

I used LegalZoom to start my LLC and everything went good. The first lady I talked to talked really fast and I’m not used to that. She could have talked a little bit slower and more clearly and, because I’m an idiot, I didn’t understand anything going on. So, while it went well, some things got by me that I was paying for and that I didn’t need. It was my mistake for not understanding the whole process but it was all right. I got it all straightened out with the second lady I talked to. Whenever I asked her to go over everything with me again, she had no problem doing that. She explained everything else and went over very thoroughly with me the second time around. She did a good, honest job. To my knowledge, I’m finished with the program. I’m not sure how long it really took from start to finish but it didn’t take very long. It took longer for Illinois to accept the business name I picked out versus anything. So, everything’s perfect.

The only answer was up to UPSTO. I was tired of this so I go ahead. I filed another with my state myself without their help. It was bad service because I got hung up because I questioned them about my case and why they never contacted me as before through phone. They wanted me to pay their lawyers so I can have my case through. It was really frustrated and stressful because I was heading nowhere and lost my money, like good legal scam.

LegalZoom doesn’t always make it clear that they partner with service providers which can leave customers confused as to who they need to deal with. Take Deed Transfers as an example, they partner with GoDeeds and tell you to expect a 5-7 day turnaround. The LegalZoom site gives you a helpful but completely inaccurate status of pending - meaning they are working on the paperwork and the will send it to you. I never received the docs 12 days later so I contacted LegalZoom, they said they had no info, call GoDeeds (even though I paid LegalZoom!). GoDeeds customer service was rude and sassy telling me that it was emailed a week ago. OK.... was I supposed to read somebody’s mind here? Everything else was regular post... When I asked to email again, the bitter woman gave me an attitude. Do not use Legal Zoom or Go Deeds - it’s not worth the frustration.

I used LegalZoom to get LLC. For most the part, my experience was good. I did have one issue though. I had somebody create an LLC for me. I called 28 to 48 hours later to try to counsel it and I had set it up on a three-month payment plan. Because they worked so fast, I still ended up having to pay the full amount, which ended up being $1,000 because I had to pay another amount to do a dissolution. I was given false information, that later I was on the phone and the rep said, "You still would have to pay for your first month under the payment plan, but the rest of month, you don't have to pay anymore." So I said that's fine. I'll lose $500, or whatever it was. I talked with someone else and there was a situation where he said, "No. You still have to pay the full amount." And it just started to go back and forth. It was basically a loss of over $1,000 because I had to pay $1,000 for that and I had to create a new one.
It was the name that I was using. My lawyer reviewed it the next day for legal situations and he said, "Don't use the name." I was changing the name, and also, the person had forgotten to add a member. So, I understand that you'd have the pay fees, but it was done within 24 to 48 hours of me originally even setting it up. Within that time frame, I should be able to make any changes because there could be a misspelling, etc. So, that would be a thing that would help for future services. And if I wasn't filing so quick or needed the LLC, I probably would've went another route and not use them again when I filed my second because I did feel some type of way about the LLC. Because I needed another LLC at the time, I ended up using them again right after that to file my second LLC. I needed to have it filed and done within the next 30 to 60 days. So I was in a rush, so I paid the rush fees for all that to get it done.

I have been trying to revise a Trust, Living Will and Power of Attorney for weeks now on behalf of an elderly lady that doesn't have a computer and is in poor health. Once I tried to live chat with them and was ignored. I've been disconnected twice. I've had to call back many times because when you are done revising the trust, etc. you have to "place the order", then it sits for days before you can even see the changes. Sometimes it gets "stuck" and doesn't move from one stage to another so I call to complain. They tell me to place the order again, only to have the same thing happen over and over and over again. Each time you call them you have to talk to a different person and tell them the story all over again.
I thought I finally found someone good to help me and she told me that she could see my changes but when the documents were generated, they weren't looking at the current data. She said she would send my problem to the appropriate department and I should know within a day or two. I had to call back several days later only to find out through someone else that she sent the problem to the wrong department. Now I'm on about my 10th call to them (or more) yesterday and the gentlemen said he would stay on it and gave me his email address. He did get the Power of Attorney to go through with the corrections but I am still waiting for the Basic Living Will and Health Care Directive documents. I emailed my last contact this morning early and just had to email him again as I have heard nothing.
I am extremely upset at this point as I still have to get the deed changed when the rest is done. I don't know if the client will even be able to get the documents notarized by the time I am done. I can't believe the horrible customer service this company has. I was hoping I wouldn't have to write this but I am done being anything close to nice.

So I was referred to Legalzoom from a friend who is going through a divorce - with children and assets - and he's been doing well with it. However, I'm going through a divorce with no assets, no children, and my ex now living out of state. I signed up, paid their $500 'preparation fee' which really didn't explain much, and got the forms filled out. It was a questionnaire which the customer service rep said would help personalize my paperwork to make it more understandable. It was still 31 pages of which I needed to fill out - more paperwork that had NOTHING to do with my case (assets, children, etc).
I took my completed paperwork to the courthouse, where they would NOT accept it as it didn't include all the information they needed. They provide the paperwork for $10 at the courthouse that looks EXACTLY like the paperwork Legalzoom "prepared" for me. Mind you, I still have to pay the $380 filing fee within my county. So I guess the $500 was just for paperwork. What an absolute rip-off! I do not recommend this 'service' at all for a simple divorce - go to your courthouse and I guarantee they will be much more service for far cheaper.

I’ve been using LegalZoom for a few years now. I kinda like the ease of use on the internet. LegalZoom is all online and I could do a lot of it myself without intervention from an actual attorney, then it’s backed by an attorney. I've done things via email. I’ve gotten something like do this or do that because I did a couple of trademarks and a couple of patents. But when I did an LLC, it got a little sticky there. I still don’t think I understand how that works and how they’ve been helping me with this big package that they sold me. I was told they were gonna tell me when I need to file this and this. But I haven't heard anything from them on that, so the follow-up on the LLC is a little sketchy. I’m still not confident that everything is up-to-date. Other than that, I really like the fact that I can file a trademark and a patent without too much hassle. Those two things are great.

I googled LegalZoom and they had a better interface, online-wise. It was a straightforward experience and the customer service was great. I called because I had a little bit of a hard time figuring out whether I can bundle the service that I was trying to perform for two separate people, and they were able to help me with that very quickly. There was also a typo that I was trying to get resolved and they made that happen the same day. It would have been nice to have the ability to chat somebody online for that instead of making a phone call, but that’s just me being picky.
This is the first time I’m doing this kind of service, so I assumed that they’re competitive, pricing-wise. I didn’t go anywhere else to shop around, but I’m happy with what I paid for what I got. One thing that is annoying is after I completed my services, I got bombarded with a whole bunch of ads for their service even though I requested not to be given ads when I signed up. I literally got two or three emails a day. Other than that, it was a great experience overall.

I was not happy with LegalZoom. I felt I was misled. I paid almost $300 for a living trust. And I was led to believe that all I needed to do then was fill out the paperwork and then return it back on. They sent it back. I found out that if I want to put my property in trust, it would cost me more money. If you're getting a living trust, it should be everything that's gonna go into a trust. It's not everything except your home. It's not any information that was upfront. They were like, "Sorry, ma'am, that you didn't understand it." I said, "Yeah, it's not anywhere that I read through." And she said, "Somewhere, when you're filling out the thing, there's a little click here if you wanna do that." I didn't see that. And the click here would send you to another dollar amount that you would have to pay if you wanna do that.
So, now my property is not in trust. And I can pay them more money to do something they should have been done in the first place. I'm pissed off about it. If you're going to purchase something, all of the costs and fees should be upfront, not hidden. To me, it was a hidden cost. The most important thing on a living trust is probably your property. It's where most of the money is and the tied up is. I'm just done with the whole thing.

I had done one thing through Rocket Lawyer but they had a glitch in their system and a lot of my contracts got messed up. I was trying to close a deal and I needed to find somewhere that I could get templates at that met the needs of the people that I needed. LegalZoom had it. I was new to the system so when you first start out, it’s gonna be like, “Okay, what is this? Is this the right one?" With Rocket Lawyer, you can see how they just have a click button that has multiple templates available immediately as soon as you go in there. LegalZoom, on the other hand, was more informative on top of everything else. A lot of times, I already knew a lot of their formal information. I was getting trapped between their formal information versus the templates. I just wound up clicking on more tabs than I actually needed to. But I realized how to separate the two.
Rocket Lawyer has an easier layout. But LegalZoom has a lot more references because a lot of other people had told me about it. I just started with it, so it might not be as complicated as it was when I first started using it. I might get familiar with it. It’s not one that I would just say I'm done with it and I’m not gonna do that. Also, the process with LegalZoom doesn’t take a lot longer than Rocket Lawyer. It's probably less than 10 to 15 minutes. As long as you know your information and you have the stuff in front of you, you’re just plugging the information in and you’re reading what it’s saying to make sure to plug in the right information. That really depends on a person’s comprehension skills.

I have never had a problem with them before except when they overcharged me last year. A man I spoke with reduced the charge. Apparently, they upsaled me without asking. It is upsetting because I thought that this was a reliable company. This time, the website stated that my renewal payment was $159.00, however, they took out $399 instead on the due date. No warning. Strangely, when I tried to log into my account to check on my order, I was asked to agree to consent. Never have had to do that before when just logging in. It is almost like it was a trap? When I spoke to a woman on the phone, she said I agreed to consent. Seems like fraud to me. I understand that all companies say they can increase prices at any time, but when it was stated what amount was coming out and then they take out more, isn't that illegal?
Regardless of them being able to increase prices at any time. That would be like my credit card company saying my minimum amount owed was $159 and then when I paid the bill they withdrew $399. I am not sure if I will cancel my membership or not but just wish companies could be more transparent and honest. Give me a 30 day notice!

So, I was prolonged for four months from doing so. They have where it says signature to certify a person, it’s printed on the paper, but when you photocopy it out, it doesn’t clearly show that. So, the person from the notary that certifies the documents before they send the documents to give back to LegalZoom, he didn’t feel comfortable stamping the notary stamp right there because it was never coming out on the document. The third time, I called LegalZoom and told them that they were giving me a hard time. Finally, that print that says for them to stamp on the LegalZoom document for the notary, it finally showed up.
It came to a point where I feel like LegalZoom was intentionally not being fully forward with the information on how to correctly do it. Because the more people that correctly do it exactly at the right time, the more processes that they have to legally do. So, it allows them a buffer to be able to fluctuate the processes of the paperwork that they’re processing through. Another thing, they sent me the other document for me to do the open vendors. I did it on the computer, I had sent it in, and then they told me that it wasn’t done. They needed additional information and it has to be done by hand, but they didn’t send me the papers for me to fill out so I can get the open vendors license. Their process should be way more efficient than the way they’re doing it. It should be one-stop shop because that’s how they’re making it, and it’s not.

We were just trying to get our business started and my buddy looked LegalZoom up on the internet. It was easier than trying to find a lawyer. I called them once and it went well. There are gonna be some other stuff for the government and should be starting with it pretty soon. The only thing is before LegalZoom submits the documents to the state, they send them to the customer. They kinda do a once-over before they submit to the State and I don't remember getting it.

I tried to obtain a copyright from the Library of Congress. LegalZoom popped up offering good service, and I decided to go ahead and consider them. I had to fill out the application to obtain the copyright on my father’s book. When I approached them last year and asked them to work on an application, I had not heard for entire year from Library of Congress, and I was perplexed. When I finally got hold of Library of Congress, and I asked them why they've been so silent all this time and I haven’t received any notice. They told me that LegalZoom did the wrong application and that was why I was not processed for it. So I had to get back to LegalZoom and told them that for entire year we were not productive because the application was wrong. They had to redo this whole process. But everything went well after that. Whoever I spoke with, whether it was the service or people who dealt with my application, they were wonderful.

They also sent my password because it had my old email address, and then I put the new one on. But I got charged for it, which I was surprised to have to be charged for something that I already had paid for. You can make that update and not be charged for it because originally, I paid 99 bucks a long time ago. But they're storing it and they have to make some type of money. At least they had the history of it from a while back, but not being charged would've been nice. Other than that, everything was fine. The customer agent was nice.

I did not know there was a recurring bill. So I paid it and told them to cancel my service because I have a local CPA to handle it now. Now a year later I have a letter from a collection agency for $399.00. I don't know how to stop this.

I was doing some research to do my will, and LegalZoom's name came up. I also spoke to an individual at a cemetery as far as getting plots, and he said that he had used LegalZoom. So, that reinforced my intentions to go through LegalZoom. We did the will, the living will, and the power of attorney through them. The conversations I had with different people were good. They helped me out.
The one thing that was confusing to me was as I got to the end, I must’ve created a file without realizing it. And then I had to go back and redo it and revisit the whole thing. I’m divorced and I was looking for a spot for my ex-wife and that did not appear. So, I got to the end and then I had to go all the way back. Someone there at LegalZoom said, “No, we don’t have a category ex-wife. We only have friend.” So, I put that. It just seemed like a weak description of my ex-wife. I would have liked to have something that wasn’t friend. I used friend for my ex-wife. The thing is when my kids get to the will and she’s described as a friend as opposed to ex-wife, I think it’s gonna be more harsh for the kids.
When it came to the living will where they send you cards, that was held up because they couldn’t fit my address on the card. And we were trying to shorten it to make it fit. But then, they never finalized it, so it was still coming up as incomplete like a week later. So, I called back, and then the person I dealt with had figured it out, and it went smoothly from there. There are still questions though. You don’t really know if it’s a legal document or if it was done properly until you’re dead. Other than that, everything appears to be in order and it should go through smoothly.

I am writing this review to warn consumers about the poor service Legal zoom has exemplified! I filed to incorporate a new business on October 4th. Legal zoom has an economy package that advertises you will receive your completed documents in 30 days. When I called for a status update I was told by the Representative that there was a tracking number. As I was trying to get clarity on whether the State issued the tracking or if it was a mail tracking number the rep told me it was provided by the State.
At this point I inquired on when the paperwork was received and was this an electronic filing. He said he was not sure and he would email me details. When I received the email It was a tracking number for UPS. I tracked the docs and was told it arrived at the State on October 25th. I called the State and was told that there had to be something wrong with my filing because it would have been approved by now. I was told legal zoom would have received a response. So 2 days ago I tried to escalate to a manager because legal zoom is telling me they don't have any correspondence from the State. I was told I needed to allow 48 hours for a manager call back because no one was available!!
I asked if the current order could be cancelled and re-filed electronically and I was willing to pay for it to be expedited. Legal zoom told me that is not an option and I needed to wait. I am losing out on business and still NO call from anyone!!! This is terrible customer service!!! What company tells you there is a 48 hour wait to speak to a manager?? And yes, there are hidden fees!!!

I called immediately and was told it probably automatically populated the county name with the state name. Five calls I made to get this corrected, and each time was assured it would be revised and I would receive an email when document was ready to download. Fourteen days and five phone calls after I placed the initial order, my final phone call was to request a refund. I have siblings in another state who have used LegalZoom with no problems. I'll never recommend them, and obviously will never use them again.

I saw a commercial for LegalZoom. I checked it and looked through it, and I decided to go with it. As far as cost, it was much cheaper than going through a regular attorney and spending all that money. Signing up with them was simple to do. I just followed the steps and filled in the blanks. But I had a problem. Another account got into my email somehow and I was getting emails for another gentleman that was in another state. I went online to check my account and I saw the information. I went in under my password, my email address, and everything. And that was when I saw that information. My name, address, state, everything was changed to his address and state, which was in California, and I’m in Arizona. I immediately called LegalZoom. They didn’t know how that happened, but they did correct it. I was told to just go back in, remove all that and put my information in there. And then they removed the rest of the information out of the system.
The gentleman I talked to was very helpful. He saw the mistake so he had to go to management. I was on the phone for several minutes ‘til he got back to me. Because according to them, they hadn’t seen anything like that. They were confused. But he was very helpful and very attentive to my needs. He did take care of the situation for me. So far, everything seems to be fine. I had the living trust and a living will. And they sent me the paperwork and everything was done very well. They got quality paper and the binder that they put it in was very professional. I’m very pleased with it. I just have to get everything notarized, get everything signed and make it official.

LegalZoom was recommended to me by my daughter. I work out on the road I thought that they could do some of my work for me to where I wouldn’t have as much to do. From day one, there have been a lot of different issues. This is the first business I’ve ever tried to create. I filled out the form for both of my applications and I had originally done one of my articles myself. I registered for LegalZoom to do the other two, just because I'm out on the road and I wasn't very familiar with what was to be done. In the first three days, every time I looked at my phone, I had a message saying that my account was on hold for one reason or another.
People at LegalZoom weren't doing as they told me they would be doing. I had asked them to change the listing agent, to myself. The rep I spoke to said that he would get it changed. The next day, my documents were sent to me saying that they were on hold again because he did not fix that as he said that he would. On that day, I sent the documents that were physically needed showing that I am to be my own person. Two weeks later, they still hadn't changed that and they sent my documentation into the security of state with their names still on it.
I thought it will be easier for me to pay LegalZoom to help me with the remaining documents for my business. It only took me a week to do my Four Aspirations company by myself with no knowledge. It was just frustrating. I'm glad I'm not starting the company until the 1st of February 'cause it doesn't look like LegalZoom is gonna have anything done like they said they would. I could've saved myself a couple of dollars and did things online by myself and I would probably be done by now.

Now they are saying we have to dissolve the company before LZ will stop charging us, and that will cost another $150 or so that we have to pay LZ! Really???? Why can't we cancel/dissolve our association with LZ without dissolving the company? My wife, who has a degree from Sturm Law School (a very prestigious law school), had no idea that we were locked in to using LZ as our agent for the life of the business!!!! I'm sure she read all of the documentation when she signed up with LZ. This has scam written all over it! LZ needs to make sure they tell people up front (not in the fine print) that you are going to pay them for as long as your business exists! Absolutely unacceptable!

A year ago, I was doing some research online for wills or trust and LegalZoom just came up on the Google search. I had actually gotten a recommendation for someone here in Sacramento where I live. An attorney friend of mine recommended another friend of his who specializes in living trust. But when I looked into it, it was 10 grand. I said that I’ll just find something cheaper. At that time, the LegalZoom rep said, “If you need help, you can call and get a session with an attorney.”. But I never did and then I completely forgot about it. A year later, I saw this charge come through on LegalZoom. But I’ve never heard of LegalZoom so I called to dispute it with my credit card company. And then I did a research and I thought, “Wait a minute. It does actually sound vaguely familiar.” I typed it in and it was a legitimate charge. I forgot. I called my credit card company back and told them that I recognize the charge.
I called LegalZoom and said, “I paid 150 a year ago and now you just charged me $120. What’s this 120 for?” And they said that it was for keeping the account current. And I said that I haven't even used it. I haven’t even set up my account. They said no problem and they refunded me that. I asked if I can still go in and set it up? And they said, “Sure, because you’ve paid for that service.” So, I started the process, finally, and I got one part of it done but that’s it. So, I still have a lot more to do.
Their system is great but it still is very confusing and it’s tough to do on your own, especially setting up a living trust. That turns out to be more complicated than I thought. I've never even seen a living trust. I've heard of them, but I don’t really know anything about it. So, their website could have more sample documents, like this is what a living trust would look like given this situation.
Hi Donna, thanks for taking the time to share your review. It sounds like we could have better communicated the charges to prevent any confusion. We'll work on making this a better experience. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly with any questions.

They refused to do it, saying that they could not take themselves off with Illinois, that the State requires them to remain as such. Interesting as the State of Illinois, Sec of State Business Filing Section said that is flat out wrong and misleading. Now a second annual charge occurred in October 2019 and once again they were contacted. It’s been six weeks and I am now waiting for them to fulfill their promise to make this change and credit my account. Since they flat out mis-informed me in Oct. 2018, I probably wont’t get that first annual charge back. So far they have deducted a total of $698 from my credit card for this “service”. However, there was a point where the process got kind of confusing as I got emails from different companies saying they are represented by LegalZoom. I got the LegalZoom app as well and it wasn't helpful at all.
Though everything was legit, I would definitely make LegalZoom's service more compact. I didn't wanna deal with four different companies. For my D-U-N-S number, I had three or four different companies calling me about that with different emails. Though I understand that the service should be done through four different companies, instead of saying that a customer will be contacted by LegalZoom's affiliate, they should list affiliates instead. The document packaging itself was awesome but I like a little more verification.
I got sold more stuff than I need by LegalZoom but then there has been very little effort from me. I pay them, answer some emails and phone calls and then they send me my stuff. There was a time when I got an email that said I had to get a state ID, tax number and that I had to do some stuff. Three days later, I got an email and LegalZoom did those for me. I'm absolutely satisfied with them. There were some situations that I was kinda confused about but just let those slide and it panned out pretty well with LegalZoom.

LegalZoom helped me out with a living will, power of attorney, and the last will and testament. Their representative was excellent. I had to make updates recently, and they sent me the stuff through email. I had an actual person over the phone. I had to have it ASAP, so we did everything fax and email. I was able to fax them the information back. It was excellent. The initial cost of service was fine. I thought maybe since there's a change, it should be a little lower, but it wasn't.

Thank you !! to the folks who wrote reviews citing hidden costs. After reading them I called Legalzoom and asked if the web price was the total cost. The guy on the phone was very, well, let's say I wouldn't buy a car from him. At first he said, 'well if there's notary fee that's extra, does that make sense?' I reiterated my question, "are there any other fees besides those noted on the web and the notary" at which he said, 'well, if you want to include the transfer of real estate then that's more - I just want to be transparent'. Wow! really? I think most people who are drawing up a trust want to include a home in the trust. And the cost? $329 on the web PLUS $249 for the home to be included (not be mention the notary fee). If that fee had been listed prominently on the web site I would have felt better about this business. I don't and I'll keep looking.

But if I had something more higher level or specific, I would probably use a local attorney. LegalZoom’s pretty large, but it’s more for small business, quick, and simple things. LegalZoom was easy to use, and it was affordable and quick. I did everything online. I used it for trademark application. Now, after I got in there, a trademark search is not that easy to do. It's not as simple as a business formation. So, that has been a little bit tricky. And now that I'm in their website trying to navigate around to the things that I need, I am having a little bit of difficulty. I got a master's degree in business, so it's not my first time to use something like that. So, I feel like it should be a little more intuitive at least for the process that I'm using it for.

I heard about LegalZoom from one of my colleagues. He owns a few businesses, and he came across LegalZoom. He actually formed a few LLCs using the LegalZoom. As for me, it was a nonprofit corporation for me. Everything has been going pretty smoothly with my experience with LegalZoom. I like the convenience and actual, smooth transition. My other colleagues and I all have our strengths in different areas. But, definitely, on the filing purposes, we didn't want any hiccups coming towards the actual forming of a nonprofit corporation.
Our interactions with them have been pretty efficient and effective. Most recently, I just called in to capture the status on the 501(c)(3) tax exemption application. And they pretty much gave me a straightforward answer, which was helpful. It’s gonna be relayed to by IRS, and then relayed to them, since we have them as a registered agent for any follow-up questions. There was one hiccup though when I submitted the application for the EIN number. This was a simple transaction but it wasn’t really going through. It said because of the copy was faint and couldn't make out. But it was pretty clear, so I just went ahead and got the EIN number done myself.

I paid LegalZoom $1100 to set up my 501c3 non profit. Or did I? Once into it I found that, they are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice, they only send me the documents. They don’t submit them, they don’t help fill them out, they don’t give advice on filling them out. What exactly did I pay for? I ended up going to a certified account to finish the product which cost me another $200 and was well worth it. Please do your due diligence before dealing with LegalZoom, they are just as expensive maybe more expensive than dealing with an attorney, and at least with an attorney you get help with issues and problems that arise. LegalZoom takes your money, sends you some documents and tells you to have fun. Customer service is rude and no help. IRS gave me more direction for free than LegalZoom did for $1100.

I’m an attorney and I use LegalZoom when I do some out of state work. For nine years that I’ve been using LegalZoom, I just plug all the information in. However, when I go online to do out of state registration, it comes back as incomplete. And then, I get a call saying, “Information is missing.” This happened the last three times. On the last couple that I’ve done, I’ve followed the instructions and I noticed that the template was different than in the past. So, that’s something LegalZoom might wanna look into. The last three times, I was sitting there on an expedited filing thinking, “What happened?” And then somebody calls, “It’s on hold because you didn’t fill this out.” And I said, “It’s not on the form.” I've had difficulty with the recent filings and I'm constantly being billed for registered agent fees when LLCs have been defunct for a couple of years. Apparently, they’ve been administratively dissolved.
I’ve informed LegalZoom about it and they said, “You gotta file articles of termination.” I said, “Nevada does it automatically.” And so, that has been a hassle for me as I keep getting charged. I got one that keeps popping up, but I need that to stop or I’m gonna have to switch. I don’t need to provide somebody documentation from Nevada that’s on the website. This was several years ago when I started doing out of state filings.

I've used LegalZoom in the past with my first business. Back in the day, it used to be a bit cheaper. But they’re good. My dad has used them too as well as my brother. We all have a little chain of businesses. When I first applied, they gave me an option for business licenses. But realistically, that was a waste of money. All they did was give me an attorney if I want to use them. And when I tried to contact them, they charged me more. I also have that agent for a whole year and same thing, which shouldn’t be a one-time use type of thing. When I called, I tried to reach my agent and all she said was once I complete the 90 days, I have to fill out a package of benefits, send it out, and they’ll get the address changed. I said all right and they charged me $150 for that. They’re very good, but there are things that are pointless spending money on. There are little things that you could possibly do on your own and then after that, it’s just the agents.
I recently used LegalZoom's service for an LLC for my second business and they got the job done. I love how they present me with the results. Their reps were courteous. They’ve answered all of my concerns. I’ll use LegalZoom again but next time, I’ll make sure not to click on that agent nor the business license thing. Still, at the end of the day, they did the job and I'm thankful.

I have been used LegalZoom as my Registered Agent since 2014. The amount they charged me was unreliable. Different each year and always higher than the previous year. This year they charged me almost triple. I replied to their notices they sent me indicating my account was going to renew. I told them not to renew it because their cost had gone up way too high. I replied to 2 emails from them, but never received a reply from them other than they were unable to charge my credit card for some reason. That was good, but almost 1 month later they ended up running the charge through.
When I called them to inquire they were not able or willing to provide any explanation as to why it was so much higher than previous years. The order on my account page with them did not list any additional services nor efforts on their part. The invoice was for the same service as previous years, yet 250% higher. The lady I spoke with (Samantha) told me that a Billing Supervisor was not available. She put me on hold for 5 minutes and when she returned she told me that the Billing Supervisor told her they were too busy helping other customers and were going to resign as my agent and refund my money in full. If there were an option to give a zero star rating, I would. Their service was okay. It was routine and likely automated on their end. But their billing is rotten and their customer service is even worse. I would not recommend LegalZoom to anyone.

The site was easy, and I have spoken with the reps twice and everything has been great. The website was very user-friendly. I went to it quite often leading up to the process of when I was thinking through the name and everything. So, the way the website was one of my favorite things about it. It was very simple to use.
The only thing is they have three different tiers when you purchase an LLC, and they’re different rates based on how fast the application goes through. I chose to go for the fastest rate thinking that I was paying for a value. I ordered it on a Friday, and it came Monday. So, I got it fast, but I wonder if I might’ve not needed to pay that. I paid for a 10-day option. There was a 30-day option. I probably could’ve paid the 30-day option, and it would’ve come in three or four days anyway. And it was considerably cheaper. I paid a premium for that rushed delivery. I got it so fast, and I kinda felt like that was a little bit of a sales tactic that they got me on. I would tell my friends not to buy that service - the fastest, the rushed, unless they really have something they needed it with.

I didn't think twice when signing up for LegalZoom, as it seemed so simple and well known. It has been a nightmare trying to end my relationship with them. Never share an account with someone else, even a business partner. They are incapable of having 2 owners of an account, they can't move any order or relationship to a different account, it's impossible to remove a credit card from your account. Never register 2 companies with the same account. There are active orders that do not tell you which company it is for.
I was getting billed hundreds of dollars to my credit card, with no way of knowing what it was for, and no way to get them to remove my credit card removed from the account. I called so many times and jumped through so many hoops for years, and I am still stuck with them. Ultimately, my former partner had to trust me with his password and security details just for me to dissolve my company so I can start a new one without it ever being tied to this terrible service and company. And of course that costs extra. I can't wait to be rid of this horrible company forever. I urge you to look elsewhere, the apparent convenience is a trap and not worth it.

Early on when I was first putting in for everything, I kept getting a lot of calls on the same matter that I’d already answered. I got to call back, and then I found out it was the same thing I already dealt with. It was taken care of on the first call, but then I got six phone calls about it across 10 days. So, that became a sore point of irritation. It was probably an automated system, but it was something they should have a better control of. I was searching to set up a non-profit and while I can set up a corporation pretty easily, non-profits can be a little bit tricky. If you fill out something incorrectly, it can turn into a little bit of a mess. So, I decided to let LegalZoom do it for me, which, so far, seems to be working fine. And I don’t have to worry about misfiling anything with the IRS. Plus, it came pretty quickly. This was for a baseball team that we have, so we needed it done quickly so we could go out and raise money for tournaments.
Overall, using LegalZoom takes the possibility of mistakes out of your hands and puts it into somebody else’s hands that has more experience in setting up some of the more intricate types of corporations like a non-profit. And for the process, there is a flat fee. And it costs you money to set up a corporation no matter what, so they file part of the fees that you would've already had to pay. So, it cost me maybe an extra $125 to have peace of mind knowing it was done correctly. It's totally worth it, especially when you’re dealing with a bunch of parents. You gotta make sure the thing is done correctly so it’s not an entity that’s made for profit and everything gets screwed up when they get the local brewery to sponsor us for $1,000 and the paperwork’s wrong and they can’t write it off. I’ll recommend LegalZoom.

We had gotten a package deal from LegalZoom, which has power-of-attorney, living will, and a couple of other things in it. I chose them for the handiness and ease of doing it. We got all the papers and got notarized. And everything worked out great with LegalZoom.
Hi Richard, thanks for allowing us to help with your estate planning needs. We appreciate you.

LegalZoom helped me file on my trademark on my company and everything went nondescriptly. I had some questions regarding the trademark and some clarification in submitting it. I spoke to two people and they answered my questions very quickly and proficiently. It was everything I needed. We got the trademark submitted and now it's just the waiting game to see what the U.S. government does with it.
Hi John, thanks for trusting us to help with what you needed and for taking the time to leave this review. Good luck with your Trademark approval, we're rooting for you!

If I could select "no stars" I would. Dealing with Legal Zoom has been the single most worst experience in my entire life. For a start-up setting up a company is everything and such an important step, yet LegalZoom not only gave me incorrect information that cost me time and money, they made mistake after mistake after mistake. The customer service representative was pushy and didn't show interest in doing things thoroughly rather was full of pressure and a "sell sell sell" attitude. The rep gave me the wrong information about what IRS form I needed to fill in and this cost me hundreds of dollars and 4-5 weeks of time at which point I realized he gave me the wrong direction.
With the right information at hand which I had to spend 2 full days discovering, and as a matter of urgency I filled the correct form and sent it to customer service, who confirmed receipt and said it would be actioned and I would have the company EIN within 4-5 business days (depending on the IRS). 4 days later I got a note from LegalZoom saying they haven't received the form. (despite receiving an email that it was received) After speaking to them they located it and promised it would be actioned that day. 5 days later I called the IRS and they hadn't received anything, so I again called LegalZoom. I sent 4 emails, and made 3 phone calls and nobody called me back or was in any way taking ownership, apology or otherwise for the gross mis-handling of my business set-up through to the end.
To my dismay after many more phone calls and now 12 days later, I get to a new rep who tells me "the form was faxed yesterday". So I was directly lied to, and then found they sent a form with a sloppy error on my address which I already alerted them to days ago - yet they made no effort to fix. So am in the situation that I may again face delays. So now it is almost 6 weeks since I first called to set up a company, I paid the premium price which is over $700 USD and I still don't have a company with EIN that I can operate. Most appalling however has been the lack of response, understanding or ownership of LegalZoom for their errors. I would never use this company again.

I did the trademark and the LLC with LegalZoom. They've been very good. The quarrel I have this week was that I don't think I got a hold of the right person. But other than that, it’s been very impressive. Everything is going well.

I have been a Customer of LegalZoom for many years. They are the registered agent for my LLC. For many years I have had my LLC but haven't done business. It was 159 a year so I kept my company active in case in the future I wanted to go at it again. Today I received an email stating the 159 is now 399 and is due in 30 days. No letters no other notification. I called to confirm that was the new cost and why. My package was no longer available and I have to go with the new package. So I will now dissolve my company not using it. With 30 days notice if I can't get it dissolved I will pay a 399 fee to LegalZoom with no way to change or cancel services. I do think it is a very unfair thing to do to people that have used LegalZoom for many years so buyer beware. Make sure you keep up to date with LegalZoom or you could get double to triple the charges with very little notice to plan.
Hi Michael, it is very important to us to try and improve the situation when there has been any dissatisfaction with our service. Our registered agent subscription fees were recently increased to include additional benefits important to many of our subscription members. We are truly sorry the notification of the upgrade was not received in a timely fashion & we’d really like to offer a resolution that will regain your satisfaction.

I thought I had thoroughly researched and felt confident using this service for what was somewhat of a last minute will and testament, and power of attorney documents prior to surgery. What nobody ever tell you is that if you want this document completed in a short period of time, you have to pay for expedited service which costs an additional $20! There are other comparable services recommended by AARP, etc. that do NOT charge this kind of fee. They have absolutely ZERO understanding of circumstances and just want to make their money. I would never have even considered LegalZoom if this information was clearly visible. They have questionable ethics. Would absolutely NOT recommend in any capacity!
Hi Mary, we're very sorry you haven't had the best experience thus far and we'd like to try and change things around for the better. We've issued a $20 refund to your account for the expedited fees and we'll do everything possible to have your documents completed & available for download as soon as possible.

LegalZoom is totally satisfying to me. All is good. Most of my interactions with them have been on the website, which is super easy to use. Everything is priced reasonably, and I’m always able to get in touch with someone on the phone if needed. I’ve created a couple of entities through LegalZoom and I’ve got their compliance package where I basically get the reminders via email.

I purchased LegalZoom yesterday after speaking with one of their sale representatives. I'm now considering canceling my subscription because these reviews are very alarming. I don't have money to waste while trying to start a new business. I purchased the LegalZoom Equip plan which is a flat rate that gives me access to a lawyer, CPA and business advocate. I still don't have any information about my lawyer or CPA as of yet. Not sure what are the rules, ramifications, and fine print associated with paying a flat rate for their services. I was emailed a brochure this morning but CPA/Lawyer contact information was not included. I really hope that I made the right decision by joining LegalZoom and the sales rep didn't sell me snakeoil. I will be beyond irritated if this company is a scam, more 1 star reviews than any other star reviews... Maybe I should cancel while I can.

I used Legal Zoom to create an LLC in the State of Georgia. "Bad Mistake." I have since closed out my LLC in with the Secretary of State's office and contacted Legal Zoom of this including forwarding documentation. Months later I received a hit on my credit card for over $400. I called and they stated they basically had me leaned over a barrel and had to pay them to cancel their part. Do not use Legal Zoom unless you are damn sure you want to hand them your credit card forever. My suggestion, do it yourself. Legal Zoom are crooks and the name should just be ZOOM, cause they are not LEGAL!
Hi William, we hate to hear you were charged for registered agent services after your business closed. Unfortunately, the state does not automatically notify us of any entity status changes and we do not have any communication or documentation from you regarding your entity status. We've reached out to the state who confirmed the entity was dissolved administratively in 09/20018. As a result, we've cancelled the LegalZoom subscription and will discontinue any further collection attempts. Please feel free to contact a manager directly with any additional concerns.

I had some difficulties in the beginning. There were some stuff that needed to be taken care of that wasn’t being handled or I wasn't being notified. They needed more information from me. They were emailing, but I didn't have email access at the time, so they should have been calling 'cause they had to contact me and it was important information to get through to get things started. They were taking my money the next month, but I still didn’t have anything being processed. When I finally was able to sit down and figure things out, I thought that they're not doing their part and they're taking money from me. Although it was not completely their fault as I didn't see my email, they have all my contact information. It shouldn't be the only process that they take. But they were very apologetic and everything is fine now. They've gotten me all the paperwork that I've needed to get through. I got my LLC and I’d recommend them.
Hi Marche, sorry our relationship starting out rough but happy to hear it all got worked out. Thanks so much to taking the time to leave your review.

I started working with LegalZoom when I opened my business in 2017 and recently, they did my DBA for me. I wanted to do it myself or use my account, but that wasn’t safe. LegalZoom has a good reputation and there was less concern that they did all their research to make sure my filings with the state and federal government were what they were supposed to be so there won’t be any issues later on. Working with them, I have peace of mind and I'm not overly concerned about anything that would come back later on, saying that things weren't filed properly and that my business isn't legitimate.
Everything I did was online and their website was very easy to navigate. Between their FAQs and the fact that it almost walks you through, it’s like doing your taxes with tax companies online. It makes things really easy because if you’re missing something, it would tell you you’re missing something. The fact that I can do the majority of things online through email saves me a lot of time. I avoid conversations when I can because they end up taking a little longer and I feel like I don’t have time to give. But if I need to talk to someone, I know it’s available. Plus, they get back to you very quickly. I recommended LegalZoom to eight people who were doing the same kind of business I’m doing and they used it too.
Hi Ronald, thank you so much for your sharing. We work really hard to give our customers piece of mind. We're happy to see that reflected in your experience. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help!

Legal Zoom is misleading their customers with additional services they offer to their customers, leading into monthly subscriptions I didn't need, had to dial customer service 4 times until I reached someone to discuss my issue, got disconnected 2 times for no reason. In addition if you buy trademark services from them, they will give your email address to every lawyer in the country to bombard you with marketing emails.
Hi Moses, our goal is to make every customer happy with our products and service and it seems we may have missed the mark this time. We want to resolve this for you and answer any questions you may have. All subscription services are only optional and can be cancelled at anytime. My attorney suggested I use the copyright office directly. I stupidly ignored his advice and went to LegalZoom. Only good thing about them is the form is easy. But they upcharge you 100 bucks. Then they took my submission online and completely dropped the ball. I only found out by checking their web site. No email notifying me they need another submission. So I send them an attached email. Day 3 I call them as to why my submission is in a "examination status". It's just rope-a-doping you to wait 2 weeks while they get around to sending it to the government. It's blue sky. I asked for a refund and decided to take my attorney's advice and apply directly to the government. BTW when I asked the rep why they take so long. She rudely said because we have other submissions besides yours.
Hi, we sincerely apologize for the poor experience you’ve had. Typically, the copyright process is much easier and we hate to hear you've experienced us at less than our best. Your comments are important to us and we appreciate your feedback. Please be reassured that we will review our operations and determine where improvements need to be made.

I paid for a DBA in Michigan.
#2 - They did not do the Tax registration for my state (Michigan) though I paid for it.
#3 - 4 weeks after the DBA was completed and I was working under the DBA, LegalZoom emailed that the TAX portion of my package was not filed nor completed and I would have to do that myself.
- I paid for that Tax portion of the service.- A refund was not offered.
- This was not posted in the offering of the service.
- I had to call them to demand my refund for the services which were paid for but not rendered.
Legal Zoom will rip you off if you do not monitor them and pursue. The service has fallen far from where it was 10 years ago. 100% untrustworthy. If you want a complete job, no hidden half-completed work, go elsewhere.
Hi Crystal, thanks for leaving your review. We couldn’t be more apologetic about your experience. Things usually go more smoothly and we apologize that you experienced us at less than our best. We appreciate your feedback and we'll work on making this a better experience.
