I purchased a Whirlpool and it was the biggest mistake I made when buying appliances. I spent $3200 on my fridge that I had for 6 years and purchased 2 extended warranties (each one cost me $500). In the end I was reimbursed 45% of what I initially paid. The fridge was deemed a lemon and they decided to give me 1/2 of my money back instead of replacing the fridge. I was told by Whirlpool customer service multiple times that if my fridge was deemed a lemon they would replace my fridge. Whirlpool owns Kitchen Aid, Amana and Jenn Air. I would steer clear of any products they offer unless you want to spend all your time with repair companies. My fridge was repairs 20 times in 5 years. Seriously? The quality is HORRIBLE and Whirlpool is laughing all the way to the bank. Don't waste your money on extended warranties if your goal (if the fridge is a lemon) is to get a new fridge. That WON'T happen.

I purchased from Lowes on 08/21/22 a Whirlpool Refrigerator model WRS571CIHZ. In January 2023 my food was freezing in the refrigerator, Whirlpool sent Flamingo Appliance Service, the first time here they said that nothing was wrong and they felt that the vents were blocked. I made sure that nothing was blocking the vent in the refrigerator and my food was still freezing in the refrigerator. I phoned Flamingo Appliance Service and they told me that they would be ordering 2 parts to replace on my refrigerator, when I phoned to see when they would be replacing the parts I was told that the parts were on back order and they had no idea when the parts would arrive.
I phoned Whirlpool about the back ordered parts and after many calls and no answer I contacted the Attorney Generals Senior Abuse hotline. (Please understand that my husband's diabetic medicine that costs $600.00 was freezing due to the parts that needed replacement.) Whirlpool did nothing to help me until they were contacted by the Senior Abuse department. Whirlpool found the parts and Flamingo Appliance Service came out a week later as they are short on staff. Whirlpool would not assign another company that works with them as Flamingo Appliance Service would be the only company they would allow under their manufacture warranty.
I now have a new problem today 04/26/23 with my refrigerator as the refrigerator is not cooling properly as everything today was warm. I just went shopping yesterday and paid over $200.00 for groceries that are spooling. I phoned Whirlpool today and they said that Flamingo Appliance Service was the only company they would allow and they would not be able to get anyone here until May 04, 2023. I phoned Flamingo Appliance Service and they confirmed that they do not have enough service people on staff and I would have to wait. I want my refrigerator replaced by Whirlpool with a new one or I want my full refund for what I paid and my lemon refrigerator taken out of my home. The only service Whirlpool provides is LIP SERVICE, DO NOT BUY A WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT.

I bought the sleek Whirlpool for a remodel job. It was installed in September - October 2021. It started when my tenant was unable to keep his ice frozen. We finally had a service tech come out for $125 to advise me that the compressor is the issue. He said that about 3% of the Whirlpool Fridges experience this kind of slow death. The freezer became the fridge and I reached out to Whirlpool, sent pictures of the MFGR stamp, etc. They took my information and today I received a wonderful email from them. They said in the email how disappointed they were that I was NOT a satisfied customer. I asked why they would not want to at least send a service rep out to see why this unit did not last. They said No and they cannot service it as it was past their 12 month warranty. I basically rented the fridge for 15 months for around $49.50 per month. I cannot replace the compressor and make it worth the cost.

In 2021 we purchased a Whirlpool SxS Fridge mod #WRS312SNHM06 from Lowe's in Victoria B.C. We purchased extended warranty as well for peace of mind but we soon learned that has done nothing to help us deal with the awful noise maker we now have in our kitchen. We noticed a loud oscillating buzz coming from the fridge the first day it was delivered. So we called Lowes but they said we need to call the warranty people which took 3 weeks to have someone come and have a look.
I took a day off work without pay to meet a tech at our home. He checked the fridge and said the fridge sounded normal and tried to say because we have an older house fridges can sometimes make more noise. This to me, being a mechanic for over 35 years, sounded like pure **. I told him that there is something in the bottom of the fridge that is vibrating against something that shouldn't be. He just said we have perfecting good working fridge. It was obvious at this point that we had purchased an inferior quality Whirlpool product from Lowes. Since then, I have investigated the oscillating noise myself and discovered a flimsy drip tray at the bottom of the fridge was partially responsible for some of the racket. I managed to readjust it to lessen some of the noise but there is still something that vibrates that shouldn't be which makes the fridge very annoying to have to listen to.
We have since had the same service tech come out to replace a door light switch which fell apart one day. The tech installed a different switch which required him cutting a larger hole in the interior of the fridge and doesn't appear to fit properly but at least the light works. I told him that I had adjusted the drip tray at the bottom which was making some of the noise and he just looked at me with stunned eyes and couldn't say anything. I have considered that one day I will load the fridge in the back of my truck and park it in Lowes parking lot with a sign on the fridge saying beware of this. I hope this helps you have better luck with your next fridge purchase.

I purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator in 2012. A few years later the ice maker quit working. I call one of those tech companies (with people who are EXPERENCED in Whirlpool) and everything they said to do didn't work. I called in a technician who worked on Whirlpool and he said he didn't work on those models, but everyone knows the problem is wiring. I called another tech who said if the ice maker isn't working, WHIRLPOOL KNOWS IT HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING. I call Whirlpool, no, no recalls. I can buy a new door for more than half what my refrigerator cost or a tech can come and fix it. He fixed the wiring problem, it's a known problem with these models. Now, a couple of years later and guess what, it's broken again. Still no recall. They will give me 40% off a new refrigerator. NEVER BUY THEIR PRODUCTS AGAIN!

I purchased a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator in April 2022. In November of 2022 it began to act up and no longer stay cool, my food was going bad. We called a repairperson and they came out after Thanksgiving. He said it was the control unit and ordered a new one. He did replace it and here we are in January of 2023 and it is not working again, doing the exact same thing as before. Upon reading all of the reviews, clearly Whirlpool does not care that the refrigerators are not working because everyone seems to be having troubles with the side by sides that were purchased in 2022. I am disappointed I had to buy a smaller refrigerator for my garage so that my stuff did not go bad. We are going to report it again on Monday and see what will happen. My gut tells me that they are not going to do a thing about it. I may end up having to buy a new one and it won't be whirlpool, I paid $1400 for this refrigerator and that makes me angry.

My refrigerator was purchased in April 2022 and my unit was made in March 2022. My unit stopped working 1/8/23 and I still have no working refrigerators. I emailed Whirlpool and no one has responded to my emails. I have been treated badly by Whirlpool in trying to get my 9 month old refrigerator repaired. On January 8, 2023, the refrigerator started making a clicking noise. The next morning I woke up to all of my food warm and bad.
I called Whirlpool and waited on hold for 1 1/2 hours with no answer. I went online to make a service appointment and got one scheduled, not until, January 18, 2023. The next morning I called Whirlpool again and spoke to April from Ohio. She could care less about my issues. In fact, she cancelled my service appointment. She marked it as a duplicate appointment but I only had one appointment scheduled. April also told me my lost food was not covered by the Whirlpool warranty. I lost at least $600 worth of food. The technicians that came out stated that lost food had been covered to their knowledge.
I also emailed Whirlpool and John P., answered my email with a “staple” reply congratulating me on my new appliance but never addressed my issues. I called back and had to schedule a new appointment which was another day out, January 19, 1023. The technicians came out and guess what, it is the compressor that went out. Guess what, now parts have to be ordered and I am still without a working refrigerator. The technicians that came out believe Whirlpool is using incompatible compressor with the new Freon system. They have seen so many compressor issues since the change.
They estimated the parts would take about a week to get and then I have to wait for a special technician to come out because my new refrigerator has to be fixed by one of two guys that know the new butane/Freon system on refrigerators. VERY poor customer service and they don’t back up their products. They also could care less that you are living without a working refrigerator. Model number: WRF757SDHZ03. These units should be recalled and replaced. My next inquiry will be how to start filing a class action lawsuit. Don’t waste your money on any Whirlpool appliance. Trust me, it will save you loads of frustration and money.

I bought my Whirlpool fridge/freezer combination from Lowe’s in the Summer of 2022. After less than 6 months, the unit stopped cooling. We called for warranty service and had to wait for over a week before anyone could come out. To be clear, my unit went out just before Thanksgiving and my family of 5 lived out of a cooler with ice until we could get a rental unit from a local appliance rental store. Thanksgiving came and went…CHRISTmas has come and gone…we are now into the New Year and my fridge is STILL broken.
Whirlpool sent a technician out 5 times already and he has not been able to fix the unit. When you call their customer “care”, you might be lucky if you get to talk to one of their very nice people in under a 30 minute hold time. Then when you do, they are very sorry and can only schedule another service time for a tech to come back out. I talked to a customer care supervisor and told him that I think what I have dealt with is unreasonable and that it was time for Whirlpool to replace the unit. They disagreed. Of course!
Whirlpool already has their money from my unfortunate purchase and now my warranty is wearing away while they literally do not fix my fridge. They offered a 3 month service agreement (not to be confused with an extended warranty, I was told)…but what does it matter if my brand new fridge is still not working!?! I hope you will listen to me and take this into serious consideration when you buy a fridge. Don’t buy a Whirlpool… or like me, you may be sunk!

August 2022, I purchased a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator. I replaced a 20 year old working fridge at that time. The inside of the fridge was always wet and sweating. All my vegetables grew mold rapidly. The door handle had to be tightened every 3-4 days. Shortly after 3 months the entire unit failed. The freezer defrosted and refrigerator was 75 degrees. Everything in the unit had to be thrown out. Hundreds of dollars of meats, fish, condiments, dairy and frozen foods. Since that phone call, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New years, I have had no refrigerator in my condo. I did not even have cold water.
After fighting with Whirlpool and posting my story they managed to find a sooner apt that 2 1/2 weeks. I was told the driver carried parts. He did not. He had to locate the part. The soonest he could return today 1/3 between 11-2pm. At 11 I received a phone call from the Flamingo Appliance that the service person called out. They could come next week. I have not only lost food. I have been eating out for almost 4 weeks. I have lost and spent more than the cost of the refrigerator. After yelling and screaming they came up with an emergency appt but can not give be a time for tomorrow. My husband has a post op appointment at 1:30 made around the appt for today and can't be changed at this late date.
I have been on the phone on hold 37 minutes waiting for Whirlpool Customer service. All my calls to them have been at least that long. They are uncaring. They will not give a loaner. Their service company will not give a loaner. I have a contract on my apartment with a service company but they can not service warranty appliances or warranty is void. I have lost in every way on this purchase. WARNING GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY. PS THE door have all been noted to be get loose as per Flamingo. After calling six times to Whirlpool customer service (on hold >30 minutes each call) they still have not been able to replace the doors under warranty. (They confirmed from my delivery receipt I am still under warranty) During one of the calls they connected me to "Whirlpool Parts" which ended up being a third party and said they had no record of the warranty info and I would need to pay for the doors. The email "support" is just artificial intelligence saying "They know what it's like to be a customer" and just keep sending me back to the phone numbers and a random link on how to make repairs to the fridge.
Not to mention, they have been unable to identify an actual repair technician. They kept saying for weeks, "We have escalated" and I would get a call back to schedule a technician. The last call (of 6) they finally said I should get my own technician. I can get my own technician but I still need the doors - the actual parts. The doors are supposed to be stainless steel and they have smudges and marks all over them. They still cannot be cleaned with the microfiber cloth the instruction manual says. If you load up the top pull out bin in the freezer, don't be lazy & try to push the door closed before pushing in the top rack! That top rack can easily hold the door from closing. We finally attached an alarm to the bottom door due to at least 10X with the freezer unthawing. Also, the design for the 2 fridge doors can crash together if closed a certain way. Representatives are not trained properly, the company does not document their calls and activities on the claim files to be able to provide updates, don’t respond to emails, there aren’t enough representatives to assist which causes long hold times, and nothing is ever resolved in one attempt. My issue goes back to September 15, 2022 where I asked George’s Appliances (**) to come look at my fridge which was warm. The fridge receipt is attached to this complaint and is less than two years old.
September 20, 2022 The technician came out and found that the heater in the refrigerator kept going and caused a fire which melted the refrigerator. The heater not working has caused ice buildup which causes the overall refrigerator to be warm. The technician said it was unsafe, and there will be too much wrong with the refrigerator to fix it and he would reach out with Whirlpool to see about replacing the refrigerator. September 21, 2022 Kathy from George’s Appliances said Whirlpool was exchanging the fridge and provided file number: **. Whirlpool was supposed to contact me and never did. I followed up in days after hearing the file number and struggled to find anybody that knew anything. When I finally reached somebody (after multiple transfers and tons of hold times) I was told ANOTHER technician needs to come asses the fridge.
September 24th George’s Appliances came out a second time and said the same thing again to me. I had to chase Whirlpool around AGAIN after not hearing from them, and finally was able to get the email address to send my receipt and was told by Jan via email on September 28, 2022: “Thank you for sending in the receipt. The buyback will be processed for $946.65. Once we have the check back from the bank, it will be sent to our service provider, George's Appliance, who will contact you to set up a time to deliver the check and pick up the unit.” October 2, 2022 George’s Appliances reached out and said Whirlpool would be doing the exchange. I waited weeks, and called George’s Appliances on October 17, 2022 and they said they hadn’t heard anything and to call Whirlpool.
Today is the single worst customer service experience I have ever had. I was on hold for 30 minutes before speaking with somebody named Chrissy who said she didn’t handle the question I needed answered and transferred me to the “correct department.” I waited an additional hour and spoke with Tanya who said SHE didn’t handle the question either. She said I needed the Product Exchange Team. I pleaded with Tanya not to transfer me. I told her that whoever she transferred me to most likely wouldn’t help me and asked for the needed department to call me back or a direct number but she said there are no callbacks for that specific department and they don’t have a direct number. Tonya assured me it wouldn’t be a long hold, and went ahead and transferred. When she transferred there was a message saying that that department was closed for lunch and a call back later and disconnected the call.
I was beyond angry at this point for being transferred to a department that was out of the office and wasting all of my time and energy explaining the problem from person to person and never getting an answer. I feel it’s important to share this experience because it’s something that needs to be changed. More representatives are needed and need to be better trained. This has been the absolute worst company to deal with and somebody needs to hear this. I just want a company that recognizes their mistakes, treats customers correctly, and communicates appropriately.

Also with first service, I purchased new filter at store to be on sage side. I thought maybe leaking due to filter, bought another filter and placed it.
This is the worst appliance I’ve ever bought. Looked up litigations against whirlpool for their new refrigerators. So many. Looked up model numbers that might get reimbursed, naturally my model number is not included. Go figure. Bottom of refrigerator is rusting, and smudge proof coating is peeling. Coating started peeling right after I purchased this appliance. 74 year old retired nurse, with no retirement left due to husband having cancer, several strokes, kidney failure, heart failure and died. Original Review: The compressors on Whirlpool refrigerators are failing within a year. Luckily but not really, it is under the one year warranty but now the compressors are backordered. I have been without my refrigerator for over a month with the ETA on parts continually changing. The tech confirmed that the compressors are constantly failing on these and could be 2-3 months before one is available. I don't wish anyone going through what I am going through. Whirlpool's contracted service isn't great either. Usually on hold for 20 minutes before speaking with someone. They are apologetic but no empathy. BUY ANOTHER BRAND. These refrigerators and freezers quit so after building our kitchen around them and having years of headaches from freon leaks we were unaware of (the health issues), we wanted others to be aware. Then they offer a service plan now after the fact and it's 420.00 a year. So, if you want your appliance to leak, this is a health hazard and should be addressed by the government. I am not alright with freon in our home? Why would the consumer again have to provide almost 500.00 a year to replace. They also lost the original warranty. Outrageous because the sears outlet closed? What criminals? Why are people doing business like this allowed to carry on.

Less than 3 years old my new lightly used Whirlpool refrigerator stopped freezing and refrigerating. My appliance repair person advised me that it would not be economical to repair it. I know that they don’t make ‘em like they used to but for $900+ I had expected at least 6-8 years longevity. What a joke! Plus the negative environmental impact of having to trash a large appliance every 2.5 years.

I am not one to throw mud at people or places, but I will say that I am so frustrated with Whirlpool right now!! We bought a fridge at Lowe's in June. Less than 2 weeks later we realized, after losing an entire fridge full of food, the refrigerator was not cooling as it should've. We called Whirlpool for repairs, they sent a tech from an authorized repair place. He would have to come by later with a new evaporator fan and asked that I have the freezer (which was working correctly) emptied. Ok, I emptied the freezer, but left the appliance running.
One week later, he came back with the evaporator fan. Took the panel off the back of the freezer and said it wasn't the evaporator fan after all. Well, it was, and it wasn't, he said. The fan was blowing downward onto the coils, not pulling the cool air up into the refrigerator as it should, he said. That makes sense. So, off he goes, but will be back again. He was to order a part to change the direction of the evaporator fan. Meanwhile, as the appliance has been running, the freezer coils now get so frozen that the fan is no longer working correctly. So, we unplug the thing and clean the mess when everything melts.
Three weeks went by. I called again about the repair that had yet to be fixed. Whirlpool said it would expand my area for a different repairman since the last guy had not been able to fix it in 3 trips. Next thing I know, the same repair guy is calling me as he (unannounced) is at my house to see what else he can find wrong with this refrigerator. I, not knowing he was coming, told him to come back next week as I was out of town for an appointment.
He finally comes back the next week, this time they called ahead to tell me. Joe is home this time, but busy in another room. The repair guy ripped out the air tower in the back of the refrigerator and told me it needed holes in the back of it so the air would be able to escape to the cooled area (fridge part). Ok.... (I can see that he has no idea what he is talking about this time, but whatever. I let him leave, I show Joe what he said, had Joe call Whirlpool this time and see what we can do. By now, I am getting mad about having a large, expensive, non-working paperweight in my kitchen.
Call to Whirlpool was not productive, and they tell Joe they cannot request a repairman outside our area (which is what they told they were doing 2 weeks prior when I called them and then the repair guy shows up unannounced). Meanwhile, I called Lowe's, where I bought the paperweight, I mean refrigerator. Appliance manager was supposed to call me back later that evening. She did not.
So, I gave it another week and a couple days and I called Whirlpool again this morning. Waited for over 30 minutes for them to answer and when they did, they acted as though they couldn't hear me, I did hear every word they said, checked to make sure my mute wasn't on, tried screaming into the phone and tried it on speaker, but to no avail, they hung up. So, I get online and start a chat with someone. This chat went on for over an hour and an half. I tell the lady (at the end of our conversation) I am so fed up with this that I will be seeing my lawyer and talking to the BBB. She then calls the place that is supposed to be doing the repairs and says they told her there is a part for me (the air tower) but they can't get to me for 2 weeks.
Now, really trying to not yell, I call Lowe's again and speak with the appliance manager. She was nice, told me the repair guy should be able to start the proceedings to have the fridge replaced or my money back after 3 visits. I told her he has been here 4 times and I am waiting for a 5th visit and I am trying to be nice, but I am livid and want to scream because this has not been resolved. She then puts me on hold and connects me with Whirlpool again. Ugh!!! So, after 35 minutes of waiting online for them, a lady comes on to help me. (This is after my 1.5 hours in chat with someone.) She basically tells me the same thing the lady on the chat tells me. I am not happy!
They say I can get my own repair guy and they will reimburse me up to $150 for functional failures or up to $300 in repair costs and they will supply the parts for free. WHAT? I just want the refrigerator fixed or my money back!!! Why are they not willing to give me my money back??? Two weeks y'all!! I got to use it for less than 2 weeks and all they can do is say we will reimburse you a little money for repairs or you can wait on the same repair guy once again, in two more weeks? I'm DONE!!!!

He was very rough in handling and was not able to fix. I called again and they said another repairer will come to look at it. They gave me a slot between 8 - 4. I purchased a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator in Feb. 2022 to replace a dead Samsung. One of the reasons I purchased Whirlpool was the purported quality. When the fridge died in July, barely 6 months after purchase, I contacted Whirlpool service for repair under the 12-month factory warranty. I was told repeatedly that it would take them 7 days or so to find a repair facility in my area (North Mississippi).
If they couldn't find one, it would be up to me to arrange repair and they would reimburse me. I wondered out loud to the service desk that if Whirlpool with all its resources couldn't find a repair shop to satisfy the factory warranty, how was I, a lowly citizen supposed to accomplish that. That question was not answered. It has been 5 days since the unit died, many dollars of food and medicine discarded and no assurance that Whirlpool will honor the warranty. I'm building a clear case for what I anticipate will be a class action lawsuit for breach of contract.
Repeatedly reaching out to Whirlpool service has yielded many different stories and promises.... none of which promise to actually honor the warranty provisions. In short, I a retiree on social security will end up buying a new refrigerator (obviously a different and trustworthy brand), and encumbering myself in additional debt. If this behavior is the new "standard" in America, then I think we're all in trouble. Nothing surprises me anymore ... mediocrity is the norm, customer service is an ancient concept and American business practice is corrupt. I intend to pass on my experience to every person I come in contact with... perhaps I can save one person from making a costly mistake!

We bought our new whirlpool refrigerator from Lowe's 40 days ago for $1700, Model is WRS315SDHZ. And since last Friday, the fridge stop working. Today the whirlpool certified technician came and had it checked. His conclusion was the compressor is not working anymore and needs to be replaced., and he placed an order for a new compressor, right away, which would be available in 30 days.
Following are the technician's answers to some of my questions:
1) Why would a brand new refrigerator have such an issue on this important part?"Whirlpool is using the cheap parts to build the refrigerator these days, and it increase the chance of parts failure."
2) Why wouldn't whirlpool keep the spare parts in stock, so that the issue can be resolved right away?
"To keep the cost, whirlpool would rather keep its inventory at lowest level."
3) How can customers survive without a refrigerator for the next 30 days?
"Whirlpool does not care."
4) Since the refrigerator is just about 1 month old, and the cost of the compressor is almost the half price of refrigerator cost, can whirlpool just have the refrigerator replaced for a new one?"Maybe, if you keep bugging the customer service every day."
I am just speechless for such whirlpool service.

Tech looked at the fridge, took some pictures and didn't test or diagnose anything. Thinks after looking at it for 3 minutes that he needs to replace a main board and wiring harness. Thinks he may have replaced a fan and wiring harness on the first breakdown but can't recall and we never got any paperwork. Tech never left the house on the first visit to go outside and get parts so pretty sure nothing got replaced. Now, parts that we don't even know if they will resolve the issue are on backorder. This refrigerator WRS973CIDM00 came with a suite of appliances in our new home in November 2016. First in about 18 months the LED lights in the freezer failed and we were informed it would require a new circuit board to repair at our cost. Since everything else was working, we declined the expense. Then the ice maker failed to produce ice and the repair service found the wires that lead up the freezer door were broken due to flexing when the door is opened. Paid for that repair, and learned it is a very common occurrence with these side by side models.
Now it has quit for the third time in under 5 years and we had yet another service visit but the tech said the wires could no longer be repaired. Since the wiring harness for these models has been discontinued and the only way to get a new harness is to purchase a new freezer door at half the cost of a new refrigerator! Whirlpool agreed it was a problem that is recurring so offered to provide a new door. That was in October and 6 months later they state they cannot provide the door as they have no idea when or if it will be made.
They offered us a discount on a replacement refrigerator, but there are none that will fit the space that are available, many are on "pause" meaning they are not being made and others are so back-ordered they have no idea when we would get a unit. And, the one that "might" be available soon is $4000 and even with a discount would cost us $2000 for a side by side model that likely has the same door defect as the current one. The goes on and says no one in the area can fix it because the lack of knowledge of the newer technology. The service department at Whirlpool has now put it if yet another to find someone in which I told them the previous service tech had told there's no one in the area that can fix it....I already lost 300$ worth of groceries now I'm going to lose more time with no fridge. We replaced our basement refrigerator with what we thought was a slick compact WRT112CZJZ top freezer model. The freezer hasn't worked from the moment it was installed. We thought it was user error, and after throwing out the first frozen/thawed foods stored, set it for the coldest setting before replacing the pizzas and other items it held. A week later, all had thawed and refrozen again - and we called in the repairman. He thought it was the controller, so we ordered a new controller, and he returned to replace it. Again put frozen items into the freezer, along with a tray of ice cubes which we monitored regularly. Once again - thawed and refrozen food was discarded and the ice cubes had clearly thawed and refrozen as well.
The third return, the repairman called in the problem and was told there were no suggestions for possible repair - regardless, after an hour on the phone with two different Whirlpool reps, was told there was a note that now we needed to change out a motor and move the damper. First - this is an outrageous expense by Whirlpool - paying for more parts and another visit (the 4th) from a repairman for an appliance that is only $600 - Second - we're ready to put the fridge on the street and write off the whole experience - and ensure we never purchase another Whirlpool product - and will share this story widely with all we know. Finally - what a terrible product - just don't buy this fridge. We thought it looked good - but didn't dive into the reviews as we should have! Stay away!

I'll never buy Whirlpool appliances again. I purchased all new kitchen appliances less than 3 years ago. The range had electrical issues within the first year, which was extremely scary. Thankfully because of the warranty they took it back, reimbursed me for it and I replaced it with a GE. I absolutely love the GE. The dish in the microwave never stays on its track in the center. It's quite an inconvenience to fix it almost daily. The top rack in the dishwasher constantly breaks, drops down on one side. Random parts from inside the dishwasher constantly come loose and fall off. But the worst of all....my refrigerator has broken down twice in 6 months from the same issue due to no fault of my own. To give some credit, Whirlpool fixed it out of warranty the first time. However the same issue happened 6 months later and they are expecting me to pay for it.
The repair company contracted with Whirlpool covers their parts under warranty, however different parts need to be ordered. I had to pay for these parts, a service call and labor. Whirlpool came out with a "service pointer" on this because they know it's a manufacturing defect but are refusing to cover the cost. The representative I spoke to was nasty and inconsiderate but sadly the manager was even worse. DON'T buy Whirlpool!!! I recommend GE, you'll be much happier. Worst customer service and support.

Updated on 05/17/2022: I initially wrote a review back in February about Whirlpool and just wanted to follow up. It's now four months later and I still have a broken refrigerator that broke when it was only a few months old. They continually made excuses and gave me the runaround and after 2 months, several visits from technicians and many phone calls and emails back and forth, they finally realized it was un-repairable and it needed to be replaced.
Fast forward another 2 months, I still have a broken refrigerator and don't have a replacement. I was told by the technician that the refrigerator is a very poor design and the only way it would work properly is if I never put anything on the top shelf. Really?? What's the purpose of the shelf then. Now I'm getting the same refrigerator again with the same poor design. DO NOT buy Whirlpool. I've lost hundreds of dollars worth of food and was only offered $50 for a refrigerator still under warranty. Their products are terrible and they do NOT care about their customers one bit.
Original Review: I have never had such a horrible experience in my life as I have with Whirlpool. Refrigerator ($2,500) broke within three months, and then broke again another two months later and hasn’t worked right since. They have the most horrible customer service, parts are on back order, I’ve had to throw away hundreds of dollars worth of food because everything keeps freezing but they do not care. Ice machine has been broken for over a month for the second time. They are the worst company I’ve ever dealt with. Buyer beware. Do not buy anything from this company. Their products are the worst and they have zero customer service. Good luck if you buy something and it breaks. You might as well just buy a completely new appliance.

I live in an open concept condo and this fridge sounds like a train for more than an hour more than 5 times a day, it is terrible. Customer support doesn't respect the customer and their answer that the first "works as designed" makes me understand that Whirpool designs bad quality fridges. We purchased a Whirlpool 18.2 cubic foot refrigerator from Lowe's, store No. 2239, in Knoxville, Tenn., on Oct. 1, 2018. The appliance was unsatisfactory from the beginning. The model in question is WRT318FZDW02; serial number VS83664742. The ice maker failed in January 2019 -- less than three months after purchase -- but was covered by the standard one-year warranty.
We also constantly had to adjust the cooling setting in the refrigerator portion, which was never quite right, resulting in frozen milk, juice, vegetables. We eventually lowered the setting as low as it would go. That became irrelevant when the freezer portion of the refrigerator failed on June 14, 2021 -- less than three years after we bought the appliance.
We called an appliance repair company (not affiliated with Whirlpool), and the representative found the appliance's Freon had leaked due to a breach in a line somewhere in the unit. He explained the difficulty of tracing the leak and suggested replacement was our best option. Within a few hours of his visit, the refrigerator portion of the appliance was no longer cooling. The repairman explained that would happen.
We have never needed an extended warranty because of the service we received from those products. We also weighed the cost versus the outcome of dealing with a manufacturer's replacement versus our own replacement. Yes, we were solicited constantly by Whirlpool to purchase extended warranties, including a solicitation shortly before our Whirlpool's failure. If a Whirlpool product is so inferior that it needs an extended warranty, then why should one purchase it? The obvious answer is all appliances are subject to failure, but that is not much of a defense of the brand.
The refrigerator was not moved once it was delivered except for cleaning in its cubicle; it was in a ventilated space and properly maintained. The failure can be attributed to manufacturing and/or use of inferior parts. Period. We paid a total of $544.04, including tax, for the refrigerator. I am an Air Force veteran and received a 10 percent military discount at the time of purchase, and the Whirlpool ice maker was included in the sale, so the $99 cost was also discounted. (That was good since it was defective.)
We believe that if Whirlpool truly stands for quality and dependability, then it would address this failure and reimburse us appropriately. Whirlpool responded "Tough luck; you didn't buy an extended warranty." We have replaced the refrigerator with another brand and, despite owning other Whirlpool appliances that are still functioning, we plan to purchase other brands when these appliances fail.

We recently purchased a refrigerator from a reputable local appliance store after months of shopping and comparing and research. As an opinion, Whirlpool seemed to set the standard for a quality appliance. Unfortunately, we failed miserably by buying this side-by-side fridge. Two unsolvable problems. First, the cold side door is extremely difficult to open. I've tried ALL gasket lube methods and failed. Second, the "stainless" steel used on the front of the machine is obviously low grade that accepts magnets and is almost impossible to clean weekly without streaking. They were kind enough to provide us with their special cleaner {free} but it takes about an hour and a half to use for moderate success.
The lady on the help desk listened but seemed rather "cold" and uninterested in the problems. At this point, we would be willing to pay the extra and go to a Kitchen Aid instead. Our advise is beware of these types of issues and get some kind of guarantee from your store when buying a WHIRLPOOL refrigerator. This is simply terrible.

As they do not cover damage by "acts of God" their warranty would not cover replacement. Mind you I paid around $1500 for my refrigerator and it was not even 1 year old.
5/17/21 (2 weeks from when the refrig got fried and I had to get and I had to purchase a used refrig until then) serviceman said he had to order parts. 6/1/21 - Motor-Cond $158.20, Fan Blade $13.97, CNTRL Elec $60 CORE [PI] $497.45 and Evap Fan Motor $183.91. Did not fix the problem and had to order more parts. 6/8/21 - Evap Fan Motor $183.91 (first one did not work), Rail $34.76. Service tech said to wait a bit before moving the frig back to make sure it was cooling properly. Finally moved it back on 7/7/21 and hooked up the water line.
Few days later noticed water leaking from the top of the freezer door and a lot of water on my floor. Heard a funny sound and found water spurting from the top 2 corners of the freezer door. Called whirlpool warranty and was told they would contact me. Next I get a notice that I have a service appointment in August. Was able to get it moved with a follow up appointment with a part that was broken during the last repair for 7/28/21.
7/28/21 - Fill tube heater for icemaker was open and frozen - now tech ordered Rail $34.76, Freezer Door $1,525.84 and Valve $124.23. 6-8 weeks custom order. So we also have to added 5 service calls to the cost - Approx. $500++. Total Replacement Parts = $2,758.81 with a final total cost to repair of $3258.81+ vs just replacing or reimbursing me for the appliance of approximately $1800. Someone needs to review their model because not only am I without a working refrig for 4-5 months, but the repairs cost them $1500 more and now they have a customer who will not longer invest in Whirlpool appliances because of bad business practices and inconvenience.
Original: I purchased a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator in July 2020. Earlier this month I had a tree pull down a power line and disconnect the neutral, allowing a full surge of power to go through my house. It fried the exhaust hood, literally melting the components. It also fried my refrigerator. The electrician who reconnected my home signed an affidavit that the refrigerator was permanently damaged due to the surge. When contacting Whirlpool to file a claim, I was on hold over an hour before getting a person. This happens every time you attempt to contact them, so patience is required.
I was not able to get a service call on my refrigerator for 2 weeks (5/17/21) so that left me without a refrigerator. The service company showed up early and I had no choice but to leave my job or reschedule another 2 weeks out. The tech said he could only repair and made an attempt to contact Whirlpool to get the unit replaced and he was on hold for over 30 minutes. They declined and said because it was an "act of God" they could not replace it. I was already having issues with the unit before the surge of a constant defrost that was causing food to spoil due to melting then refreezing causing freezer burn. I also lost over $500 worth of food. They don't cover. It also caused the icemaker to constantly freeze up. Now it will take at least another 2 weeks for the replacement part to fix and a refrigerator is not something you can go without that long. I had a concern this would happen.
When speaking with customer I service, they said they just needed the tech to confirm it was damaged to replace it. At this point he said he does not know if the piece (on 2 weeks backorder) will fix it. They can only tell after the fact. He said Whirlpool only "fixes" and does not replace, which is not what Home Depot informed me when inquiring into the warranty with Whirlpool. They said Power Surges are covered. So with this in mind, I would seriously consider buying from Whirlpool. Things break, situations happen and no one should have to go without a refrigerator for over a month because they "may" be able to fix it. Then there is the concern if something is melted/destroyed inside, if it could cause a fire in the future. Will never buy another Whirlpool appliance again. They can't stand behind their products, the products are worthless. And yes, I am very upset. Again - just had Whirlpool tell me it's not covered as it is an act of God! ARGH -

This refrigerator is only days old and I realize the mistake that was made in buying it- it is far too noisy! When it is running I can hear it in my basement- sounds like a car in my driveway idling with no muffler!!! And when it stops running, it gurgles loudly for 10-15 seconds. Don't even start on the door being hard to pull open after the door was recently opened.

4) They will send you an email that they understand you are not happy with the unit.
5) Don’t bother responding to it because that is the last you will hear from them.
6) When a non factory trained tech ( Whirlpool did set this up) told me nothing the can do?

The water dispenser button leaks in a dribble down the front of the fridge after each use. The drawers do not move easily when they contain a moderate amount of food. The freezer works great. All in all it does a decent job but I definitely wouldn’t consider it one of the best.

We love our new whirlpool side by side fridge. It has plenty of space inside and the bottom freezer is great. The water come out from the inside of the fridge vs a front dispenser. It’s just the typical ice dispenser in the freezer vs ice dispenser on the front of the fridge. The only downfall is that there is no sensor to alert you if the freezer door or fridge doors aren’t fully closed. My last fridge that was over 10 years old has that sounding sensor which is a lifesaver with children. It helps save your food items from half defrosted and frozen from a door being left slightly ajar.

My model - GB9FHDXWD06 - is one of only a very few that fits our space. However, it has failed three times in 5 years: 1) A faulty defrost drain tube that was replaced under warranty, 2) A jammed vent flap that caused the freezer to fail, and 3) a burned-out control panel (an expensive repair). It is also annoyingly noisy and middling at energy efficiency. The coils are in a very narrow space below the refrigerator, which makes them a bear to clean. And, the plastic front plate that must be removed for cleaning breaks far too easily.
On the good side, it is a bottom freezer model (which is far better for convenience), the space-wasting ice maker was very easy to remove, the glass shelves, removable baskets, and drawers are easy to clean, and the auto-defrost works very well (after the recall update, number one, above). Temperature uniformity is good and the freezer maintains below 0° very well. Overall, it is a good looking appliance with mediocre efficiency and poor reliability. Not recommended.

We bought model WRS571CID*** which has an in-door ice maker that has stopped working after exactly 3 years. An excellent authorized service rep advised that the wire harness from the freezer to the door was damaged by chafing from normal opening and closing the freezer door, which has caused the ice maker wires to break, thereby disabling the ice maker. The only remedy is replacing entire the door, which would cost $1700 according to Whirlpool's published repair data, which he is obligated to charge. Apparently, the wiring harness is not a replaceable part, because I suspect the labor hours needed to disassemble and reassemble the door is prohibitive. Well, a new fridge costs about the repair. I spoke to the Whirlpool company about whether they acknowledge that the design is faulty and that the door should be replaced at their expense even out of warranty, and they declined.
So I advise prospective buyers to be aware of this issue and watch other reviews. There are many customer reviews on various sites complaining about this very issue. Our workaround is to put ice trays into the freezer to make ice, and while the dispenser still works, pour the ice thus made into the ice dispenser manually - until the wire control that also becomes damaged and stops working. I would not recommend buying this model.

If I put anything on left door opposite ice maker, it freezes, making that shelf useless! We had ordered a Kitchenaid but the installers damaged it.

Stay away from all Whirlpool products. The appliances are terrible (broke twice for different reasons within 14 months of purchase). Customer service wait times are over 90 mins and the technicians take over 3 weeks to get to the house and they don't fix it, they order the part and that takes another 3 weeks for it to arrive and the technician comes back. We bought an extended warranty and when the fridge broke a second time, they canceled the warranty and said they had the right to cancel it as it was in the contract. Terrible, terrible company. I work in the service industry and I am in shock that this company can get away with treating customers like they have.

Whirlpool fridge with ice and water dispenser that broke down within days of install. The water dispenser stopped working after the first flush and Whirlpool were notified. They engaged a useless repair company who have been unable to resolve the problem and will not communicate updates. Whirlpool have been fully informed of the problem with their "brand new" product which was defective practically from the start and have washed their hands of any involvement in resolving the problem with their appliance. They defer defective product as a warranty issue and leave the consumer to chase after people to get a repair done.
What consumer would knowingly choose to purchase a defective appliance? If you end up getting a defect, the company should make it right....right away. I'm at 2 months now without a functioning water dispenser on a fridge that is only 2 months old. Just disgusting.

This new refrigerator sucks! Unopened milk doesn't even last a week. If I turn the temp lower, the produce freezes. I think the fans in new fridges are week in order to save energy. With old old refrigerators you could definitely feel the fan blowing which probably helped keep the fridge more evenly cold. Whenever I open the door there is no noticeable circulation of air at all. Whirlpool owes me at least a hundred dollars in milk that went down the drain. Please take my advise on this. There should be a class action lawsuit against most refrigerator makers because I think this is probably the norm nowadays. If you're wondering, I'm not a nut case. Friends I have talked to have noticed this problem too. Unopened milk is supposed to last two or three weeks and not go bad in four days if it's within the sell by date. This is a real problem that is causing a lot of waste and something should be done about it.

Our refrigerator had ice maker problems from the beginning. After 6-7 trips (with a warranty extension) they got it fixed. Then randomly the ice melted, made a puddle in fridge and on the floor, the freezer thawed. Then it would begin running after several days. Finally Whirlpool recommended we replace the computer brain for $1000 PLUS. The refrigerator is 4 years old. We are having a Bosch delivered today, even though the ice and freezer turned back on after being off for 3 days. Customer satisfaction stinks.

It is impossible to get a real person to talk to, their virtual assistant is a joke. So help me God to have some warranty issues with this guys. I think I will cancel the order. Not worth it. I purchased replacement filters online on 09/15. The filters did not arrive by the 21st as indicated, and I can’t get anyone on the phone to get answers (or a refund). Virtual assistance is useless: I was given a tracking number, which only shows a label was created on the 25th. They have my money, still haven’t shipped the order, and I have no clue when or if I’ll get my filters.

I bought a house with Whirlpool appliances and I bought the extended warranty for all the appliances, I started to have issues with the refrigerator almost 4 months ago and still waiting for results, do not buy whirlpool products, every time you call the warranty department be prepared to spend at least one hour waiting for a customer representative. Buy LG or GE instead. These are excellent brands that I have owned in the past.

Bought a new side-by-side in 7/2020 from Lowe's in Keller, Texas. Salesman won me over with the "buy American" pitch claiming if the need ever arises for parts I would be far better off than with LG which orders their parts from South Korea. I bit, and bought, and now regret. The refrigerator dispenses water randomly and I must keep a glass under the dispenser all the time and empty it when it gets full. Under warranty they say! Well here it is September and after being on hold for an hour each time (6 times as of today) I attempt to get help they tell me that "the part" W11293378 is not available and will not be made until after this month? BEWARE this brand. This is a poorly ran company and buyers would be better served to look elsewhere.

I bought the Whirlpool mini frig from Target 3 years ago thinking it was made by whirlpool in USA!!!!
Brand to glantz in china. Glantz mfg almost all mini frigs under dozens of well known brands. Federal Trade Commission should ban this kind of deceptive marketing. Complain to the FTC Wash DC!!!
2) Chinese mfg gantz mfg defects and how I fixed them:A) back of freezer compartment open, freezer does not freeze
B) 45f inside not 40f!!!
C) defective thermostat remedies: 1) aluminum foil to seal back freezer 2) weather stripping around door to bring temp from f45 to 40f.
D) used Youtube video to adjust defective thermostat, until I can find a replacement thermostat!!! Dys videos: watch youtube repair videos before you trash your frig. 2) check the country of origin, if it's made in china, it will not last very long!! 3) buy an extended warranty for any chinese product. You can buy generic frig replacement parts on eBay!!
Yes chinese products are cheap, but they do not last!!! One good thing!!! This is a very quiet frig.

When I bought the house in 1999, an existing refrigerator was part of the appliances that "came with the house --- A Whirlpool 2 door. The first couple of months, there was no problem... As the refrigerator began to age, it would sometimes make a humming noise, not too loud. When it became clear (via manual) that the state of the refrigerator was my responsibility. I also wanted to know how I would be getting automatic ice via an Icemaker. I don't recall there being a coordinated use manual for this item. My estimate is at 1999, the refrigerator had been in place/in use for about 10 years.

I have had my fridge (model WRX735SDHZ02) for 6 months now and it has never worked properly. All our food was getting frozen so we bought a thermometer to check the temperature inside the fridge and it was showing around 22F. The technician came 4 times and finally said that the fridge couldn't be fixed. He asked me to call Whirlpool since there was nothing else he could do. Every time I have called Whirlpool (6 times already) the wait times have been between 52 minutes to almost 1.5 hours.
When I called customer service to tell them the technician said the fridge can't be fixed, Whirlpool said that I had to contact the technician again and schedule another visit. Whirlpool said the technician had to call them from MY home and tell them the fridge can't be fixed. I asked why couldn't the technician just call them now to let them know and why did I have to schedule another visit for that? Whirlpool said it was "protocol". Makes absolutely no sense. In a nutshell, it's been 6 months and my fridge is still not fixed and Whirlpool is not being helpful. If I could go back I would not buy Whirlpool.

Love the chrome exterior and overall appearance of this side-by-side. The compartments and shelf spacing are well thought out & offer flexible adjustments. The outside components on the freezer (crushed ice, ice water, ice cubes, & light) I love, and most importantly the unit comes with a built-in replacement water filter.

Love my new Whirlpool Refrigerator! Works well and no problems for the last year. Filters are pricey but found some at Lowe’s cheaper. Whirlpool stays in touch frequently emailing information about their products, some useful some not applicable. Would I buy this refrigerator again? Yes, I love the ice maker, it is quite large (enough to fill a small cooler), and the convenience of crushed or cubed ice is nice. Most people complain about the motors are loud yet we have not experienced that.

My Whirlpool refrigerator does well overall to maintain food items. However, even at the lowest freeze settings, some of the food items that are stored towards the rear of the refrigerator shelf have a tendency to freeze. This oftentimes results in food items having to be wasted. Other than that, the overall appearance and performance of the Whirlpool refrigerator is great.
