We purchased a Gold Conquest refrigerator in 2005 for our new house that we were building. 1 year and 10 months later we heard a popping sound coming from the back of the frig and all the lights went out. When the repair man arrived and opened the electronic control box he discovered the board had shorted out. There was a black spot on the inside of the control box. Researching this problem on the internet, I see others have had the same problem.
Whirlpool tells me there is no recall on this frig and my warranty has expired. The part # 2304056 that was bad is not available, but has been replaced with part # 2304095. Is that not amazing? There is no problem with their frig but they have a new replacement part available for $117.15, plus labor.

We purchased a Whirpool side kick fridge/freezer unit less than 2 years ago.The fridge will not cool less than 50 degrees. We called whirpool they said it was still under warranty. Now it's going on three weeks and it's still not fixed! After being stood up twice by the repair company and faulty new parts I'm at the end of my rope.My wife who has a day care is working out of coolers just to keep the kids fed.Now today I have a new compressor sitting on the floor next to my fridge waiting for the repair man for the fourth time.
When I called the repair company this morning to make sure I was on the repair list they told me that all the repair men were very busy and they will try to get here this afternoon when infact they made the appointment for this morning WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL!

In August, 2004 we purchased a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refigerator. By the June of 2005, we started experiencing problems with excessive freezing in the freezer and the refrigerator reading a temperature of 50+ degrees.
A technician came to repair it by pouring boiling water in the vent of the freezer and refrigerator. Temporary fix.
Called again with the same problem again defrosting it with hot water. After four times, we just did it ourselves.
Finally, I again called and insisted that they send someone to fix this problem that knows what they're doing. A technician finally came and sealed the freezer door and THAT problem seemed to be corrected. This went on for 2 years.
Then on February 3, 2007 the light bulb in the refrigerator blew out and there was a buzzing sound coming from the unit. We replaced the bulb, with one replacement bulb, only to have the whole refrigerator blow out with smoke coming from the rear. Not fixed yet.

We bought a Whirlpool side by side Refrigerator the store delivered it set it up and within 5 minutes it was smoking. They took it back to the store brought us another one smaller model #ED22TQXFW00 Serial #SH1741207 the ice maker and water quit working about a year and a half later. The temperature has never been right with the meat box. If we turned it up everything froze turn it down then food goes bad. We have had it checked no one seems to know whats wrong with it. When I tried to get ahold of Whirlpool I just got the run around about it saying my warranty was out. That I needed to take it somewhere to be fixed. I still have all paper work and sales slip.
We have not had the money to keep putting out for someone to tell us they don't know. So we have a refigerator that has features we can't use.

Spring 2005 I purchased a Whirlpool side-by-side counter depth stainless steel refrigerator with ice-maker in door. It claimed it was an Energy-star product. Just after the initial 1 year warranty expired so did most of the freezer's capabilities. The freezer started running almost non-stop and the display showed increasing temperatures, up to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, the freezer was so cold that it would cause the thermometer we bought to stick at below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. At the same time the freezing temperatures were causing the drip pan in the back panel to freeze over and water would first puddle to the bottom of our refrigerator, and then slowly leak out onto our floors.
I looked on-line for possible reasons for this to be happening and noted many users were having problems with new Whirlpool refrigerators. I then called Whirlpool. They immediately told me whatever was wrong was probably not under warranty. I informed them that they did have a 2-5 year extended warranty for limited internal parts and they could not just summarily dismiss the problems I was having. They then told me it may just be a problem with the gasket and sealing. I told them I had read about that problem from others on Consumer Reports and assured them it was not my gasket. So they arranged to have a certified technician sent to look at the refrigerator while reminding us we would have to foot the bill if there were no problems covered by warranty.
The first technician came and told us that the problems were caused by the iced over drip pan. We attempted to explain that would not influence the displays and that the reason it is icing over is that our freezer thinks it is at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, even though it is less than -20 degrees, and is working as hard as it can to cool itself. When we asked if it was right for our refrigerator to turn ice-cream into a block that couldn't be hacked into for 30 minutes, he said sometimes you just have to put the ice cream in the microwave for 20 seconds or so! After not getting any help from him and obviously having continued problems the company sent another technician.
He also didn't know what the problem was but noted it seemed that there were multiple things going on. We were told we needed additional parts. A month and a half later we call again. In that time we had to melt the ice in the drip pan and scrape ice out of the bottom of the freezer no less than once a week. We finally get a technician to come again but now he stays for 2 hours, calls Whirlpool 2 times, attempts to change one part (which did not work), and tells us we need a new control board and several other components. He then left and COMPLETELY broke our freezer AND the refrigerator which now no longer works. Whirlpool apparently doesn't care about the problems and our Energystar appliance, which has cost us hundreds of extra dollars in operating costs is now just a shiny toy in our kitchen with no working parts. That is all on a refrigerator that is less than 2 years old now.
We have spent hundreds of extra dollars in operating costs. Have currently spent 60 dollars in fees to maintenance (NOTHING has been fixed) and have NO refrigerator or freezer use.

Purchased a new Whirlpool Conquest side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with the ice dispenser in the door. Two years after purchasing, the icemaker quit working due to a plastic axle which turns the ice out of the maker and into the bin. The repairman (an independent) charged me $235 to replace the icemaker. He said the plastic axle costs about $.25 and a metal one would cost slightly more, but Whirlpool wouldn't replace the defective part.
He indicated that these break all the time and basically told me that if it broke again tomorrow, I'd have to pay the expense all over again....not including the $3 per bag I spent for ice for several months before just deciding to bite the bullet and get it fixed. Now less than 1 year later, the darned thing broke again.

I own a side by side Whirlpool refridgerator, model #GD25SFCHS10. Recently, I stareted smelling burned wireing and then I saw the smoke coming out of the icemaker. The smell and the smoke indicated to me that this could be a very dangerous situation and a FIRE HAZZARD. The service person I called out told me that the whole door would have to be replaced and this is not an inexpensive part. He also told me that there are several other consumers with the same problems in my area. Aggravated and frustrated I turned to Whirlpool. Needless to say, I received no satisfaction from them only names and phone numbers from repair people in my area. Here I am and what to do next. In a situation of possible fire danger, the manufacturer of a product should be held responsible for the repair.
Not to mention the aggravation at this, there is also the expense of repairs. Having an icemaker and not able to use this feature is frustrating.

I purchased a Whirlpool Gold side by side fridge 12/13/04. Within the last few weeks, it has started to fall apart. The ice maker dispenser broke and I am told I must replace the whole door for $600.00. Secondly, the compressor has died. I contacted Whirlpool who has agreed to pay for 1/2 of the door and will fix the compressor. However, no one can come out for 5 days. Whirlpool has suggested that I purchase coolers and live out of them for the next 5 days. I have made numerous calls and spoken with multiple uninterested customer service representives, all the way up to DION who suggested the coolers. I will never purchase another Whirlpool or any product made by Whirlpool again!!

We purchased a brand new Whirlpool side by side refrigerator freezer for our very first home in july of 2004 (1200.00)and the ice maker stopped working within the first 6 months. Sears sent someone to replace what they said was the motor to the icemaker at which time was still covered under the warranty. The ice maker stopped working again three months later and Sears again came in to get it running.
Three weeks ago, the ice maker stopped running again and we've since been buying bags of ice to load into the ice basket. The warranty only being good for a year. Our refrigerator is the only Whirlpool appliance and it will be the last. Whirlpool have given me the run around and nothing they can do answer when I finally got someone on the phone after desperately trying for at least a week. We work hard for everything we have and trust that bigmanufacturers would at he very least stand by their products.

My microwave also be gan to rust not only on the outside but the inside as well. It blew the inside door latches off three months ago. I had just stood up from cleaning the front of my stove, which had not been turned on ,when I heard a funny noise and turned around to discovered the entire front panel had shattered into thousands of pieces. If I had not stood up when I did it would have cut my face all to pieces, perhaps blinding me.

I purchased W whirlpool side by side refrigerator 4 years ago for $2000.00. It is still under warranty, I had problems with it flooding onto the wood floor two years ago. Whirlpool said that I could only use one company for repairs called A & E. They failed to show up twice, finally came out, couldn't find the problem but billed me $138.00. If I didn't remember to poor hot water down the drain every month it flooded my kitchen. Now 1 week ago, the refrigerator died. Went thru the whole scenario again. They would only let A & E do the repairs, or the warranty was null and void. A & E since they don't have enough technicians couldn't come out for 4 days.

I was persuaded to take a new Whirlpool refrigerator as part of an energy conservation program. The older Korean built refrigerator from Circuit ran well but they claim of CES it was energy inefficient. The 20 year old Korean refrigerator had performed flawlessly over the years and during numerous earthquakes including the massive 1994 Northridge Quake.
Immediately the new Whirlpool refrigerator's door would not stay closed and once closed would open. It did so manay times and of course the motor runs ciontinuosly when the door remains open. Food spoiled as a result of this. CES and their supplier had promised me on numerous occasions a new replacement Whirlpool refrigerator. I had asked to get my old Korean refrigerator back but was ignored. Whirlpool never showed up to deal with the issue when scheduled to do so. CES and their supplier all have said Whirlpool will contact me to replace the refrigerator with a new and Whirlpool never did.
This has gone on for over a month. All of the organizations concerned, particularly Whirlpool. havwe a total disregard for the health, safety, time and money spent by the consumer. Whirlpools advertising and their suppliers don't warn the consyumer of known problems with Whirlpool products and performance.
Estimated $78.00 in food spoiled. I have only been able to trust the new Whirpool refrigerator to non perishables over the past two months. Many extra trips on a daily basis to the market with gas at $3.25 per gallon plus loss of time.

On Dec 19, 2004 I purchased a 25cf side by side refrigerator with an ice maker in the freezer side and the ice storage in the door from Best Buy. It was delivered to our newly built house on Dec 31. We moved into the house in February 2005. In June 2006 the ice maker stopped making ice cubes. I called a Whirlpool authorized service rep who cam and looked at the problem. He said the ice maker was broken and that whirlpool did not rebuild them. he said whirlpool had been making the same type of ice maker for 45 years. (and they're still trying to get it right!). His servcie call was $75, the ice maker replacement is $145, installation is $200. Not bad for a fridge that cost $1100!!
I spoke to customer service again and received six apologies for my experience. I tried to negotiate with them and a supervisor and was told that the one year warranty had expired and that I was out of luck. If whirlpool is the last company on this earth that sells something I need I will not buy it from them. I am furious. Just to make matters worse my neighbor across the street has a refrigerator - same model - same age with exactly the same problem.

I purchased a Whirlpool refigerator from Lowes on 7/06/06. It was delivered on 7/09/06. I had installed or set up the appliance myself that day. The following morning the unit was not cold. We called the service company A&E Appliance service company and by the time they arrived on the following day, it seemed the refigerator was operating OK. On 8/02/06 the refigerator was not cooling properly. I contacted Whirlpool about this matter and they arranged for a tech from A&E to come out on 8/4/06. During that course of time several perishable items to include perscription medicine went bad. I estimate the losses in the amount of $75.00. When I spoke with the representative ar Whirlpool, I asked if they were responsible for any lost food, she simply replied that it states in the warranty that Whirlpool is not responsible. I purchase a Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer in December 2004. About a month ago, June 2006, I found out that two gallons of milk had frozen completely solid and I lost other food as well. I was reimbursed for the food from Lowes where I purchased the product. I took out an extended warranty so two different service men were sent after waiting 3 weeks to have the problem resolved. Both service companies said it was a thermostat which was very rare. So, it was replaced. Now, July 06, a month later, my freezer is thawing out my food, I had ice cream melted all over the place.
I am a single parent and I am very frustrated with this. I have complained to Lowes, the service people, and now I am voicing my complaint to the public. I feel there should be some type of protection for consumers when they purchase so called lemons.

I have a Gold Edtion Side-by-Side frezzer/fridg that is 18 months old. The fill tube from the water source to the ice maker is freezing. This will cause the icemaker to stop working and the water then slides down the back of the unit on to the floor. I called a service person out and was told this has been a design issue with many of the Whirlpools and I need to have an upgraded kit installed to correct the problem. I phoned the Whirlpool Customer Service center and was told they will not acknowledge or honor the defected design in this model (they have in other models) and I should call out one of their service people for a second opnion. Call me crazy but my damaged wood floors seems to confirm the opnion of the first service repair person.
The upgraded fill tube kit will cost approximately $90.00 and the labor for the repair $150.00. I have no estimate for the damage to my wood floors at this time.

I purchased a Whirlpool 25 cf side by side refrigerator in 2002. Until last week, there were no problems. However, last week a wire to the compressor shorted out and sparked a fire in the insulation below. Fortunately, I was home and the smoke alarms alerted me to the impending danger.
The fire department was called because the smoke was so intense throughout the house. When they finally found the source of the fire and removed the refrigerator from our home, we saw that the hardwood floor under the refrigerator was charred (about the size of a dinner plate). Whirlpool said they would send a factory authorized representative but we would have to pay a $59.00 service charge. The fire department said there was nothing blocking the rear of the refrigerator, there was no dirt or pet hair and no obvious indication of a probable cause of the short/fire. Even if Whirlpool offered to fix the refrigerator at no charge to us, I couldn't keep it in my house for fear it could happen while we were away.

I purchased a side by side refrigerator Model #RS25AGXNQOO on 2-19-05. One year later, the interior wall of the refrigerator has about 40 hairline cracks in it. I purchased it at Lowe's, and apparently they can't even give me the time of day, much less help me with the replacement of this unit. I of course haven't gotten anything but the runaround from Customer Service at Whirlpool, and the corporate office said they aren't a part of Whirlpool/Roper when I called....HMMM wonder if they were truthful??
I am so disgusted that the first major appliance I purchased, obviously from the wrong people, has had so many problems. They sent a repairman out at first who wanted to patch it, which I refused. Since he basically told me that it wouldn't keep the cracks from getting worse. Now they are wanting me to send pictures so they can decide whether or not to replace it....What jerks!!! It's only a year old, I can't believe Lowe's sells such trash. I've read on several websites that this problem has been occuring in their side by sides for a couple years, and they act like I'm crazy because I refuse to let them just patch up the problem. I think their customer service stinks, and I hope people complain enough that their productivity goes down. It's just so frustrating trying to get them to do the right thing.

We ordered a Whirlpool model: GR9FHMXPTOO refrigerator . A week later I noticed that there was a lot of ice buildup around the rear assembly in the freezer. There was also frost buildup on the door shelves, on the food packages and other surfaces. I figured that the auto defrost heater didn’t come on yet. The next day it was worse and the food in the freezer was getting soggy. My wife threw out some of the packages. The freezer is not opened very often as our children live in other states. We called to have someone come over and check this out.
When the service man arrived he tried to pull a dollar bill thru the gasket and said that it was OK. He wanted us to remove everything from the freezer. He then placed a pot of hot water in the freezer to help removed all the frost. He said that it should be ok. A few days later it was just as bad. A short time later we found that the ice cubes in the bin that were made by the icemaker was frozen into one big mess and there was a layer of ice on the freezer surface. I was the engineering manager for a high tech company and I figured that refrigerators were perfected by now. I sent another letter to Whirlpool customer service on the internet explaining everything. Two days later I received a reply that I should try service again.
A little while later I called to make a service appointment. I was told that the service man would be coming on Wednesday Sept. 7, 2005. On Tuesday Sept. 6, I found a message on my answer machine that said the service man is out sick and that I should call for another appointment. When I called I asked how many service personnel they had and the answer was 2. An appointment was set up for Thursday Sept. 8th,2005 On Thursday the service man arrived and I told him about the first service call. He looked inside the freezer and viewed all the frost buildup. He told us that a heater kit was needed and has to be ordered. He told us that he would order one and we should receive a call when it comes in. its over 2 weeks and I have not received a call back.
When I called service again and mentioned the heater I was told that this part is always going bad. I believe that there should be a recall because of a fire hazard and the part should be replaced with a properly designed unit. This refrigerator obviously never had a QC checkout. I sent several computer fax letter to Whirlpool corporation with zero response. My wife would be happy if we could get back our 28 year old GE refrigerator. We need a working refrigerator.

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator that came with the house that I bought (freezer on top of the non-freezing part), about 27.5" wide. It had rust spots, chipped paint, etc. And on humid days, it would leak water on to the floor. Luckily, the floor was tile, so I didn't have to deal with warped hardwood floors. Additionally, all the screws holding the door handles and the doors were loose. This just smacks of a badly made product.
Suffice it to say that when I replace this fridge, or any other appliance, I shall not be buying the Whirlpool brand. BTW, I googled "refrigerator leaks water onto floor", and found out that one of the main causes is that the drain from the freezer can get clogged. Sure enough, the little pan that collects the water from the freezer had a ton of gunk in it. Another possibility as to why I have the water on the floor is that the seals are broken. I have to say that the seals on this fridge are broken and in pretty bad shape. What sickens me is that my parents had the same bloody fridge in India for about 25 years, and never once had a problem.
