TruGreen Chemlawn agreed to apply needed lime according to Agriculture Department soil test recommendations, but they did not. Requirements were 1900 and they only applied 449 and said that's all they were going to apply. I am considering filing for damages as well.

I started a contract with TruGreen Lawn Care in January 2012. They came out and serviced the lawn and I paid them $162 for the service that included a $50 upstart service charge. All other applications would be $112. I was called on 2 April 2012 to have my yard accessible for Friday 6 April for an application. I was called on 6 April and told the driver would not be able to make it out. I was never called again so I applied fertilizer and started doing it myself. No one ever called me for another application and I was pulling weeds like crazy. When they called, I cancelled and told them I had another service doing it. They came out anyway and treated my front lawn because the back was locked. I called and told them about it and they said they had no record of me cancelling and I still had to pay the bill.
I received more attention after I cancelled than when I was a customer. I was called trying to get me back but to no avail. I called about the billing and was given the runaround and finally a lady from Dallas told me to call the company in Oklahoma City, OK and talk with them because they were handling my account. When I called, the lady was very rude and told me I had to pay the bill. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she said there was no one else there but her. When I asked for her name, she hung up the phone. I called back on and talked to a lady and told her my story and she agreed to let me pay on $50 since they only treated half my yard. I will never use this company again.

TruGreen came to my home to fertilize, treat my grass for weeds and insects. After the first treatment, my grass stopped growing and a lot of weeds came out. I called and the TruGreen came out and sprayed my yard in the pouring rain. Then I called the manager and requested that he come and check my yard. He said that he would come and respray my yard, but he never came. I called the office again and asked why no one called to spray my yard again and the receptionist told me that they had sprayed on April 30, 2012. When I told her about the birds eating something in my grass, that I may have grabs in the grass, she went to tell me that it is not the season for grabs. I told her that the reason that I got TruGreen services is to kill the weeds and she told me that TruGreen cannot kill all weeds. I then requested to talk to the supervisor and he did not call me back. So at this point, I am asking to be reimbursed. I paid for services in full. Thank you.

The tree and shrub tech came to our house. My wife was home and the tech did the front, the sides, but not the back! He went to put the invoice in front of our door. When my wife opened the door, she asked him why he did not do the back trees. He said his hose was not long enough - only has 400 ft. They have done my trees in the past and I know that the hose can reach the back as it is just 323 ft. from road to back property line!
He has marked on the invoice that he did the front, back and sides. I called the office manager and he said that the driver just called him to tell him that we would be calling. He said, "Let me go to the property on Wednesday and look!" He did not show up! I emailed TruGreen and they said that it would be resolved in two days! Then, I get a bill for two treatments. When I emailed them again, they said it would be taken care of in two days! There was no call - nothing! It has been 3 weeks now and I have not heard from them! I have emailed them and cancelled the service! Thanks, Springboro, Ohio!

A TruGreen representative came to my front door for tree and shrub service. My evergreen trees and shrubs are well established, but I was thinking it would add to their nourishment. Well after looking at some reviews about TruGreen, I question if I should do business with this company. I decided to start slow and see how things progressed. After the technician didn't arrive at our initial scheduled appointment, I waited an additional weekend and 2 business days for a call from the company to reschedule the appointment. No call! I called the company to question what had happened and they said they had problems, so TruGreen and I rescheduled for the following Thursday. Okay, these things happen.
Thursday morning, I got up early awaiting their arrival. No TruGreen truck, so I called to confirm the scheduled appointment again. First, the TruGreen representative could not get in contact with the technician for that area and then stated he's off today. After the negative reviews on TruGreen, TruGreen's no show for my initial service day without a followup call to me and then to reschedule on the day of service, and discover the technician is off, I'm feeling it's best not to do any business with this company. History can predict the future!

I had TruGreen for many years until they did an unauthorized application and made me pay for it. I paid them so they would not turn me over for collection as they had threatened. I cancelled all service. This year I decided to give them another chance. I phoned to ask if they had the same program I had received several years ago. They said "No, may I have your phone number in case we get cut off." I declined the service and since that day (a week ago), they have called every day at least two times a day. I do not answer the calls nor will I. I then called the home office to complain, they transferred me to the local office who assured me they would take my name off their list. Did they? No, two more calls yesterday. This company is horrible. Never again!

I hired a person from TruGreen to spray my yard. Two weeks afterward, I called TruGreen to inform them weeds were still growing. They returned and sprayed two applications of weed killer and destroyed my lawn. Before I called TruGreen, people in the community expressed I had a lovely yard. I want to take TruGreen to court for damages! Don't hire this company.

When I called the regional office to cancel my service due to an ongoing weed problem that never got resolved, they stated that they did not want me to leave disappointed and said that they would come treat the weeds one last time at no charge. I was sent to a representative to make those arrangements and this person refused to set up a time unless I agreed to a new contract.

My grass went from thoroughbred to inbred in 2 years. I had a beautiful centipede sod lawn planted in 2002 - then TruGreen started spraying for spurge which initially worked well in 2005. Then, over the last 2 years, I have had poor service (no return calls, promises that they will call in 24 hours when they didn't). I called again and was told, "Oh, that is 24 business hours - so that might be 3 days." I never got a call back. Weeds everywhere. Spurge everywhere. The centipede is being overrun by bermuda if not dead-in spots (which will be bermuda in the height of growing season). I just put down a patch of 16 pieces of sod to repair a total burnout in my backyard. My side yard looks like a weed garden. Basically, from what I read, they overdid the fertilizer which gives the advantage to invasive grass and they didn't control my weeds wisely. I sent them a letter cancelling my service since they never answered my call. However, I'd like them to foot some of the bill for replacing my obliterated yard!

I have been a TruGreen customer for 9+ years. Last year it was bad when their tech told me that chick weeds are hard to kill and nothing could be done. I've paid $500+ per year in advance, this year ditto. One and a half months (past the 1st application) and 4 cancellations later, I received a call from the tech and he politely told me there's no way could he make it since it takes 2.5 hours to get to my house. Now up to today, this is 4th cancellation that I was promised by the Albany manager that someone would be at my place no later than last Saturday. Long story short, I do not believe they had any intention on servicing my yard. Beware, I was told I would receive credit on my AmEx for the full amount. Time will tell.

In 2010, I restored my lawn at a cost of $5,000. I contracted with TruGreen for 2011 so my lawn would remain healthy. After 2 good applications, they missed the insect treatment scheduled for May 1st. They finally came out to do the insect application in July. By then, the lawn was gone. I tried to get my lawn fixed and my money back, all I got were managers promising to look at the lawn and telling me what they would do to fix it. Luckily, I paid by credit card. Once the branch manager refused to address my concerns, I disputed the charge with my credit card company in October. TruGreen Corp finally issued a full credit in Feb 2012. However, the branch continues to send me an invoice for the $972.08 that they received as a charge back for my credit. I have been receiving harassing phone calls for me to pay the money and a regular invoice.

I want the owners of TruGreen to be aware of how inappropriate I think their new commercial is. What on earth are they thinking? This company has a commercial advertising their "weed slayer" that is nasty, foul and disrespectful! TruGreen's newest "weed slayer" commercial includes, "What the f - front yard?" The actor begins to say the F-word and then switches to front yard. This is not enough to cover up what he meant to say. We all know he meant to use the F word. As a parent and woman, I find this type of advertising inappropriate and unnecessary. TruGreen is providing the fodder for our children to have dirty mouths. TruGreen is not a company I care to do business with! They show very poor judgment and disregard for my children and me!

I had used Lawn and Turf, a local company on LI for 30 years and was happy dealing with wonderful people. Last year, they sold out to TruGreen. We're OK, not great but OK. This year, however, they turned out to be the worst company I had ever dealt with. My story, I signed a contract but didn't pay in advance (never do that even with incentives) because then they can do whatever. Early blooming and grass getting quite long, so I attempted to call to get the service started. Several times on hold for over 1/2 hour with the same silly typical message (heavy call volume, answering calls as they are received, etc.). Then they automatically transferred the call to another TruGreen location, Dallas, Boston, New Hampshire. I wanted my local service coming from Yaphank, NY.
All these other locations could do is take the info and say "we will have them call you". Guess what? No one ever calls and as a matter of fact, Dallas was rude and obnoxious (Tony). I had it with them and left messages around the country that I am canceling. Finally, I got the phone call and told them they are absolutely the worst. The next day, their van arrived and if I wasn't home, they would have applied their first season application. I told the driver to hit the road and he thoroughly understood and indicated this situation was quite common. I feel better now that I vented and got a good local company who answers his phone, is licensed to do chemicals and is priced right.

We signed up, and paid in full for a full season of service four weeks ago with a promise that our service would start in seven days. We have a major issue with creeping charlie and had some dandelions. They called once to say they had to reschedule for later in the week due to the weather. Well, when I called to find out when they would be there, they said, "No, it would be the next week on Monday," which is today. When I called today, no record of the appointment. Creeping charlie is now 10 feet by 12 feet in the yard, and I just filled an entire garbage bag with dandelions that I pulled myself. Why? Because my dandelions have now spread to all of my neighbor's. TruGreen was supposed to call me back four hours ago to let me know when they would be here. Guess what? Nope. Worst thing is I work at home. I watched the trucks go by my house for three days straight last week. Nice!

My lawn was the best looking in the neighborhood, but not now. My front lawn is nothing but nutsedge and weeds. The rest of the lawn is nothing but weeds. The spray technician said "I can do your lawn in ten minutes. I have an Acre of Grass." He could not even spray the whole lawn pulled to the far end of the property, pulled the hose enough to reach the back on that end of the yard. Never moved the truck or pulled anymore hose off of truck but yet pulled the hose across the front yard and could not even reach the back yard on the south end of the property. The backyard is full of Dallas grass, dandelion and about 40 other weeds.

I quickly called back and was told by the first two people that they could not find me in their system. I then warned the rep that if anyone should show up to service my lawn, I would have that person arrested for trespassing. The next person said that they could not contact the local office but would transfer me to a cancellation dept. Last year, as a customer of TruGreen, I was very disappointed with the results of my lawn service. They explained that due to a late start last year, they were unable to apply the pre-emergent that controls crab grass and that this was the main cause of why my lawn looked poor. I did have a lot of crab grass. I was thinking of giving another service a try in 2012, but decided to stay with TruGreen.
I was naturally anxious to get it started so that we didn't have a repeat of last year. I have been chasing them to begin my service for weeks. I received a call that they would be here last Tuesday Apr 10 and they didn't show. I called again to find out what happened and their CSR had no explanation but committed they would be here today Apr 18. Again, they didn't show and when I called this evening, their CSR had no explanation and committed they would be here tomorrow.
I am not sure what the issue is, but I have been patient enough. I would expect someone to be here tomorrow and I would expect a discount off of our agreed to price for my contract. If they are not able to deliver on this tomorrow, Apr 19, they leave me no choice but to move to one of their competitors. Please let me know how they want to proceed.
Also, I must add that after much discussion on the extremely high price they quoted me for this year as compared to 2011 (up $100 per application), we were able to agree on a lower price which is still much higher than their competition. I am trying hard to do busy with them but I am finding it very difficult to do so.

I said, “Okay, you have done a good job over the years, I'll pay the increase.” Nowhere in the conversation do I recall an additional charge of $50.00 would apply. I would never agree to that.
After my first application on March 3, I received two invoices for $73.00 and $50.00. The $50.00 charge was for an "Initial Start-up". I have been a customer for 18 years, what's with the Initial nickel dime Start-up fee? I know things are tight in the business world, but do not gauge your faithful customers! I did not agree to this ridiculous Initial Start-up fee and I have no intentions to pay for it. I will continue to pay $73.00 per application and I will expect your continued guarantee.
Furthermore, after receiving the above mentioned invoices, I called the 301/390-1800 number to complain about the charge. I called 5 times and had to leave messages. My daughter got a bill for $51 for a service she never ordered or wanted. She cannot afford it. So way around the bend. Here I am, paying again for something I don't want either. This really stinks. Such antics are expected from low down, fly-by-night businesses, especially TV and online cases. But I never expected such a sneaky policy from you all. I think it is unethical and I am very upset that you came out and drummed up yourself some money. I may get help for her yard again someday, but it sure won't be with you. TruGreen's product did not support what they said it would. I was approached by TruGreen approximately midsummer a year ago. And as the representatives outlined to me that my lawn had a few crab grasses, and even though it was green, they told me that they could and would treat my lawn for crab grass, feed the good grass, make the roots much stronger using safe chemicals, and my lawn would brighten up with a deep green lawn.
To cut to the chase, over several months of treatment, I contacted TruGreen reporting several times why I thought the sprays they were using was killing my lawn. However, I was told that the product they are using would improve the lawn. The treatments continued to the point that I finally called them to cancel the service. At this time, a manager from TruGreen visited and agreed that large sections of my yard appeared to be killed and they would reseed my lawn in the spring. But they would like to continue placing a pellet type application which would provide better grass growth.
Against my better judgement, I agreed, but when I saw the service person not only applying the pellets but also using the spray, I called TruGreen located in Kentucky and cancelled my service. I received a call this spring from TruGreen outlining new products and it was obvious the person on the phone wasn't aware of the past history of their killing my grass.
A positive note--TruGreen did follow through with their monthly service as scheduled and they left the poster acknowledgments as they said they would and did use some type of chemical on my lawn. However, it killed large sections of good grass, I still have crab grass, and insects that were to be killed too. They didn't contact me to reseed. Even though I cancelled their service, they should have followed up, in my opinion. My grass does not look deep green as they promised and now, I'm trying to reseed; however, nothing is growing in the brown dead areas. I would not suggest using TruGreen.

I return each call, wait an unreasonable time on hold each time, and finally reach a representative who guarantees me the contact, which has never been received and will be mailed out. This routine has taken place at least half a dozen times. My last call was taken by Jeff, a manager of sorts at the Orchard Park, New York, office last week. He guaranteed me that he personally would see to it that the contract was sent out the following morning. A week has passed and I still have no contract.
If you want the business, it would seem that someone in the administrative staff would be responsible enough to send out the information I am requesting. There are numerous lawn care services available, so if the business isn't needed, just let me know and I'll find another company.

They finally scheduled to come out on a Tuesday and we put our dogs in the garage. They did not show. The next day, they said they sprayed the front but could not spray the back because of the dogs. We called again to schedule the backyard. This time, I came home off work to see if they were finished and let the dogs out for a bit. The tech put a bill on our front door and left. I walked over to my neighbor and asked if the TruGreen guy did anything. He said he was there for about a minute and left.
I drove around the neighborhood and found the TruGreen tech. I asked him if he sprayed my lawn and he told me he already did it. I asked him when. He said "before". The bill was from a previous application. Then he told me my wife was there. So I asked him if he was lying or he was calling my wife a liar. After convincing him he is full of **, I called his management and demanded a refund.

TruGreen does a remarkably poor job. I moved into a 6-year old house that had been vacant for a year. Based upon a personal recommendation, I chose TruGreen to provide the lawn service. After 8 applications (3 callbacks), they did not kill any weeds. I had a lot of dandelions all over the yard and I inspected their health after every application, and could never find a single distressed **. Furthermore, the fertilizer was only applied over a limited portion of the yard. It became quit obvious in the fall, because the greening only occurred in a narrow band that followed a distant loop of spreader tracks. When I called back, it was a bad attitude from the representative.
While watching the guy doing the application on one callback, he made a single pass through the backyard and none in the front. The people who do the applications must be incentivized to use little chemicals or do jobs very quickly. I never saw any ** killed and the fertilizer was limited to a narrow pathetic through the yard. After changing to a new service and one application, most all of the ** have been killed. I didn't expect such as thorough response after one application. TruGreen never came close in 8 applications to what the new company has done in one. Be warned, that TruGreen must incentivize their employees for low cost because the service is virtually useless.

I have had TruGreen Chemlawn since 2010. Unfortunately, after a conversation with a neighbor, I found out the service technician was applying chemicals on another neighbor's yard instead of my yard (as contracted). After hearing this, I contacted the Florida TruGreen Chemlawn service agents to address this concern. Unfortunately, I have not received any return phone calls in the past month or two to address the refund I expected since I had not received lawn care services for October, November and December 2011. I have pictures taken in January 2012 of our lawn covered with weeds as proof any service had not been completed for several months.
In addition, a technician who finally provided extensive weed control in January/February 2012 wrote an apology on our service work order because the weed growth was so massive. Therefore, I would never recommend TruGreen service for any of our neighbors given the apparent lack of professionalism in providing a service that was contracted, much less the simple ability to return a telephone call to address the promised refund by the Regional Manager.

Poor record-keeping: Last year, I bought a full year's service and paid for X amount of applications up front. Everything was set up over the phone, and there was no paperwork. The salesman failed to mention that the service renewed yearly, and when I received a bill 2 months ago, I couldn't figure out why (1) they were still treating and (2) I was getting a bill.
After talking to customer service, she told me she would try to find a record of our conversation. After 2 weeks(!), she called back and said that I did agree to it. However, she could not send me a transcript of the conversation or anything else proving that their salesman in fact told me about this. She sent me the notes of their investigation, which was essentially the date my complaint was opened, the date they reviewed my records, and someone's comments saying that I was informed. If I wasn't concerned about this ridiculous incident reporting on my credit, I would not pay this bill. On top of this, the product didn't work. My yard has more weeds now than it did before.

I have been using TruGreen for many years. They have great service; there was never a service issue. I was paying $28.00 a month since the beginning. I have talked my neighbor's family and even my personal customers into their service. This year, I didn't get a call or anything and have noticed the neighbors have already had theirs treated. So I called, and of course, no one was there. But they did return my call. So the girl said, "We don't have you as a customer anymore; looks like my technician cancelled your service." I said that made no sense. She said, "I can have him call you." I said, "No, I'll talk to the manager."
He came to the phone. He was ok, not really friendly, but ok. I asked if he knew what was going on. He said he didn't, but then he said if I wanted to keep my service, it would be the regular $128.00. I said, "What?" He said he could do it for $71.00. I said I understand prices go up but wow. Then he said, "Have you ever priced it in the stores?" I said, "No, that's why I have a service. He said, "We have been undercharging you for years." What? Really? Because I'm an idiot and I hate weeds, I said fine. But the more I think of it, the madder I get.

After being dissatisfied with TruGreen Lawn Care in the summer of 2011, I cancelled the service. Sure enough, this spring they started calling, asking why I cancelled and how can they get my business back. I told them I thought they charged too much and that they didn't do what they said, which was get rid of the weeds! Bottom line, I agreed to an initial treatment of weed killer, pre-emergent and bush/tree feeding treatment for $30. The man tried to get me to agree to pay for multiple treatments upfront, I refused. He said someone would call me to confirm everything. When some lady from TruGreen called, of course, she also tried to get for me to pay for multiple treatments upfront! Ugh! I told her the same thing. No, I will not pay upfront. I will pay for one treatment at a time and I told her the terms I did agree to.
So the lawn guy showed up, did the treatment and I got a bill for $106! WTH? I called and was told a manager will have to call me to sort it out. I have heard nothing and it's been 2 weeks. Even to give TruGreen the benefit of the doubt, if they did call and try to make this right, they did not leave a message. I saw their account number, address, full name, etc. I couldn't see their credit card info or anything, but I could have used that info for phishing if I wanted to (e.g., called their house and tried to get a payment over the phone).
Also, I couldn't pay my bills online, which drove me crazy. Who could see my info?! I contacted TruGreen and explained the issue, but no one would fix it or return my calls. We used TruGreen for a year and cancelled with them because our grass didn't look any better than it did before they serviced it and cutting back costs. They repeatedly called us, wanting to lower the prices, but also with fewer services. After numerous phone calls, we decided (big mistake) to do another year with them. Needless to say, our grass in the backyard was dying! Our front yard looked great, but the backyard which, might I add cost us $1,700 for the best Augustine grass, was completely dying.
We don't know much about lawn care but we did know that something was eating the grass (bugs). They tried to blame us for not watering the grass... ummm, we have a timed irrigation system and not to mention it rains in Florida like every other week. When we started with them, we had told them to call before they come, and that our gate to the back appears to be locked but it’s not. When the guy came out, I physically showed him how to open the gate. They tried to say the gate was locked on several occasions; they were not servicing our backyard. It was quite obvious, when confronted with all this they copped an attitude with me, kept insisting it was our fault for not watering the lawn and that the gate was locked, not!
When I called and spoke to a supervisor, after a heated conversation I told the supervisor to cancel our service. They still came and serviced our lawn without our knowledge and tried to bill us. They relentlessly called our house and my cell number. I would never ever recommend them to anyone. Our neighbors also had numerous complaints and no longer use their services. Bad, bad, bad.

After his assessment, he told me exactly what my lawn needed to become full, rid itself of weed problems and any disease. Of course, he offered his program plus seeding. After hearing his rationale of what my lawn needed, I bought into their fast food lawn program. That was July/Aug 2011. Expecting big changes in the spring of 2012, especially spending $400 for seeding, I have more weeds than I did before and blotches all over where the seed didn't take. A month later, they claimed we needed an additional month that the salesman missed to cover the year, so my wife sent them another check for $49.95. After 2 months, they never showed up and so I called their office said they would be out that week and did 10-minutes then left, 6-weeks later they show again blaming the rain saying they couldn't treat the lawn. Then one night, I get a call from a neighbor a few houses down the street from me saying his daughter was home when some guys from Trugreen where working in their yard and left a sign on their door and some leftover seeds in a bag on their front porch with my name on it. I realized at that time they went to the wrong address, I then got on the phone and left a message to get back to me A.S.A.P. I left them my home phone, my cell phone and as you can guess they never called. In the mean time, I receive a bill from Trugreen, I laughed. Two weeks passed, surprise, they never showed.
At this point I'd had enough, so I called and demanded my money back, they said they were really sorry and would give us a free lawn application and said that they would be out first thing in the morning, I said really, it's supposed to rain, I exclaimed, he said that's okay, we can do it in the rain, you postponed it twice due to rain and now it’s okay? Hmm, what crock of **. First, they don’t control weeds, they say they do. Second, they claim they aerate and seed, they don't. I signed up with TruGreen in May 2012 due to the discounted rate offered which was lower than our previous lawn care company who provided high quality service. To my regret, from the very get-go, the problems began. First, without our awareness, they completely excluded our backyard from treatments which we had no knowledge of until several months into it I called to complain about the super heavy weed invasion. Now, the whole property was looking much worse than what it was prior to their treatment, but the backyard was the worst. I proceeded to contact the local manager and as I expressed my complaint, he said my backyard wasn't part of service and to include it I'd have to pay so much money.
I knew that was false and told him he needs to get it right to which he assured he'd call me back once he got the recording to which I agreed. It took several weeks of me trying to get him on the phone and even then he'd come up with excuses as to why he still didn't have the answer. As I persisted to call, he finally admitted they had made a mistake and will issue me a refund to the last two services which was really a joke because by that time, they charged me many more times than just two and the back was in need of saud to get it back into shape as it missed vital treatments and it later proved it would take a whole year to restore the backyard to original shape, according to the TruGreen technician I and my husband spoke with in December of 2012.
Almost eight months since they began treatment, our lawn looks horrible and they are trying to collect the undiscounted rate for every service since the two credits (due to untreated backyard) which I never signed up for. The agreed figure was $47 which is what I was billed prior to the two credits and recently I received a statement for $79.80 for every service they claim to have provided after that time (which Ill discuss below). I have tried to get a hold of the same manager for three weeks in a row, in October/November, only to hear a bunch of excuses such as he's on vacation, busy, away from the office, unavailable right now so please leave a message.
I finally got in touch with the second manager at the same location (early December, right before I got the statement with the false high charges) to resolve the weed issue. He was very rude and unhelpful to which I said I'm just going to file a complaint. His angry remark was, "Do you want me to help you with that?" Needless to say, I was shocked by their nasty service. I told him he needed to send someone out here to kill these weeds which he finally agreed to doing. What we didn't know is that he was just going to have someone show up but not do anything about it. The technician came out the next day saying that because there was so much weeds by that time and the grass missed important treatments (which Ill address below), to kill the weeds would leave blotches of nothing. Instead, he recommended we give them a year to treat it to see improvement.
By that time, I knew they were just empty promises. They just want to rip us off and not do much here if anything. My husband and I were there listening to technician tell us how he too wants to leave this company as they have unrealistic expectations and are concerned about quantity only not quality. He said most of his customers were unhappy and complaining but it's impossible to treat the lawn in the allotted time TruGreen provides. He said the management is rude and he's not going to hang on. We requested he comes back to at least kill the weed in the back which he promised to do the next day as he said he didn't have the necessary chemicals to do it.
Now, I'd like to address the treatment part. My husband and I were home when we witnessed the technician come out to treat our lawn in early December right before I got a second manager on the phone to complain. He had pulled in, unwrapped the hose, put the bill in the door, without knocking, wrapped the hose up and left leaving no trace of anything being sprayed. Needless to say, the technician never showed up. We're assuming hes quit and the company couldn't care less about doing anything.

On May 21, 2010, TruGreen treated my lawn. Two weeks later, the leaves fell off the entire tree from 2 trees. I was told by TruGreen that this would resolve the following year. Not so. Five trees are dead, hedges are dead, lilac bush dead, grass in huge spots dead. There is not enough room for me to detail this whole story. I now have to remove all the dead trees before they land on my house. I think TruGreen should remove and replace trees and affected lawn and hedges.

Trugreen worked with my lawn for about 4 or disputably 5 months. I fought weed all summer long, to the point I had to go to Lowe’s and buy my own application. Whatever they allegedly sprayed did nothing. I had thistles growing in my lawn before it was all said and done. I dropped the service prior to year end and asked that they stop billing me for anything further. But now they are hounding me at work for this crummy service and are alleging that I have not paid for two of 5 treatments. Honestly I was not at home whenever the treatments were supposedly provided, so I have no ideal whether the rep treated my lawn or not. I sure had a lot of weeds for a professional treatment to have been done. But besides this my bank shows that the transactions were processed and nothing was returned. I tried to speak with Trugreen about this information; now it has turned into two missing payments out of these 5 alleged treatments.
I offered to fax the bank statements showing what I was looking at to them. The female representative they had argued with me over the phone. I hung up and called the company back; the next person I spoke with decided yelling their position over and over again would work better. I just must not have heard her saying I owe. It was derogatory, not to mention it made the company appear not the least professional nor interested trying to resolve a possible glitch in their system. And of course both these calls happened while I was at work. Totally embarrassing to say the least. When I finally asked to speak with someone higher up or in accounting, I was cut off and told that the female representative I was speaking with was the accountant and she refused to fax me their records on the disputed transaction(s).
She decided to tell me I just needed to go online to their website and just read my account balance posted there. I asked how this information would let me know where their glitch was coming from; the person I spoke with went back to reciting the amount owed according to their records over and over again. They did not care that they might be over collecting or erroneously collecting. I guess her job was just to get it off their books. Forget that perhaps it was an agent data entry error, or perhaps whoever processed the transaction on their part screwed up, or perhaps there is a computer glitch in their system that might be affecting a lot of people. The website will just spit out whatever they put into it or whatever their data drawn from feeds to it.
Their website is not my bank. It’s really sad that I will probably have to get an attorney to resolve this matter prior to they send it to collections. But, I will never do business with them, or feel good about their company ever again, over poor service and what amounts to 48 or 96 piddly dollars. Try to get them to stop showing an amount due when it is not. To get them to stop calling me at work. To get them to void the account and not turn their error over to collections. And to cease and desist harassing me over their erroneous billing. And to perhaps be reimbursed for the lawn treatments I had to purchase and apply to the entire lawn.

The company headquarters felt my account slipped between the cracks, and assured me Trugreen in Murfreesboro TN, serving my home in Brentwood TN, would be here to complete the needed grass and tree service. The local manager of the branch sat on this information, and after 3 frosts, I have a high risk of damage. Staff members all seem powerless to do what corporate promised they would do. I was doing business with them for 6 years in Atlanta, and 3 years in Tennessee, and never bugged them for free applications. The branch seems overwhelmed and short staffed to do the service they promise. I have more to be concerned about than an $80 application, I have over $10,000 in trees and plants and $15,000 in a sod yard. I wanted a partner who cared about my yard, but got new techs every year, who all said something different.
Getting no response, I finally cancelled all services in December 2011, and am proceeding to just find someone who cares, as well as who can do the job. It's not like this is a unique product exclusive to Trugreen, it's a service issue and they dropped the ball. Servicemaster, their parent, works hard to be convincing that all their divisions listen to a customer, and try to keep satisfied customers. Trugreen, at least for this branch, fouled up and even with polite, documented to my account records, and polite calls, just got the brush off. Guess they didn't need my annual business of $1,800. Wish I'd known then, what I know now. I'm only posting this to advise people to don't take Trugreen's word for anything, and never pay a year in advance. The 5% discount isn't worth them not performing service. I feel like I've got to start over with this yard.

Zero stars. First off, I never actually contracted with Trugreen for service. Trugreen assumed the business of Attwood Lawncare (a company I was very satisfied with). Trugreen's service started out o.k. but it has continued to decline every year. This year was, by far, the worst.
I am on an organic program (slow release granular) with four applications scheduled per year. Applications should begin in late April and continue every other month until fall. I had intended to cancel my service this year but when they failed to show up in April, May, and June, I figured my name had somehow been deleted from their system. No such luck, they decided to show up in July for my first application!! Then to make up for lost time, July was followed in quick succession by August, September, and October.
Having spotted weeds in my lawn, the technician took it upon himself to spray herbicides on his second visit. This was done without consulting me first. Huge areas of my lawn died and it looked terrible. The next time I actually arrived home while they were performing the application, once again spraying with herbicides and dragging the hoses through the corner of one of my perennial beds.
The herbicide got leaked onto some of my plants and they subsequently died. To top it all off, Trugreen informed me they were going to raise my rates! I didn't bother to call and complain because it doesn't do any good so what I decided to do was make them wait for their payment. I did make the first 2 payments on time but have delayed the last 2 until today (2 months late). No point in ruining my good credit rating by going into collections. Of course, they are calling me every day now. I used the letter I found on this website ("What to do") and will be sending it out tomorrow following the instructions. This company's behavior and tactics should be reported to the Attorney General's office.

I hired them to take care of my weed problem on my lawn and fertilize my trees, plants and shrubs. After one visit, my yard had large burn areas. My knockout roses were wilting . And my 18 ft Leyland cypress trees were turning brown.
They blamed the burn spots on winter fungus that I had never had in the 4 years I have lived there. The weeds were all still there. I have tried contacting corporate after the local branch stonewalled me. And then I got the run around from corporate. What a complete joke, how are they still in business? After 15-20 calls to the local branch they finally , without admitting guilt , gave me the rest of the years service for free. They said they would be out every couple weeks to treat, and 3 months later I still have weeds, my roses are all but gone and my trees are still looking bad. I took the day off today to stay home because there was supposed to be a service call today and no one showed up.

Because of my increased work schedule, I decided to let TruGreen handle my lawn after calling them from a flyer received. They talked a good story, talking about all of the treatments they would apply to the lawn and the great results that would follow.
After their first visit, they said I had some issues with my trees/shrubs and that I should treat them for insects, etc. and because they are the 'experts', I agreed to do so. My lawn has always look good and, as the summer went on, the lawn began to deteriorate in several areas. Considering they were so quick to point out my tree/shrub issues when I couldn't see anything, I thought the same would be done with the lawn. But application after application came and went and nothing was said as the lawn continued to deteriorate.
I even have a physical receipt showing one application that shows a total time of 4 minutes and another of only 2 minutes and my lawn is like 15,000 square feet! I called them a few weeks back as my lawn turned into the worst on the street. And when I wanted to cancel, I was put on hold for a minute and another person picked up, who I now know was not in NH but down in TX.
He apologized and said someone would come out. Over a week later when no one showed, I called again and again he apologized and would send someone out and another week passed and no one showed again. I finally cancelled the account yesterday and was supposed to get an email confirmation, which I didn't get. And today I called again to ask for it and I'm still waiting for this confirmation.

I signed up for TruGreen lawn care to put chemicals out and to keep my grass looking good. I kept them for a month or so and called to cancel due to funds. I called the local office in which I signed up for and cancelled. I spoke with a lady and she said that there was no problem and that it would be taken cared of. A few weeks later, I received a call about my final bill. I don't mind paying for a service in which I asked for. I called to clarify that the bill was taken cared of and the lady I spoke with said that it was.
One day, after I got off work, I came home to find their company sign in the yard and a note on the door for what they performed that day. I called the office and told the lady that I had cancelled their service and she apologized and said their mistake and it would be taken care of. Once again, I came home from work to find a sign in the yard. I called once again asking them what the problem was and why they were still coming to my house, after I told them that I no longer wanted their service. I got an apology and said it would be handled.
After this time, I put a padlock on by gate to at least be able to keep them out of my backyard if they decided to return. They came back! The next day, Erin ** called my cell phone saying that he could not access the backyard. I told him that it's because I cancelled all the month prior. He said ok and said that he would speak with his supervisor to ensure this is taken cared of so that they would not be back out and make sure I was not billed since it was their mistake. Of course, I started receiving phone calls about the bill. I literally spoke with six different people on different occasions about this, all in which said it would be handled. I've left two messages for Erin ** to call me back but I haven't heard anything and I'm still being harassed. They are saying that I didn't cancel until August when I actually cancelled back in June of 2011.
I've never dealt with a company that is so unprofessional and ignorant. I don't understand how hard it is to actually get them to cancel service instead of basically trying to rob people of their hard-earned money. Not once did they gave me a confirmation number nor have I thought to ask. These are modern-day crooks and need to be investigated.
I have perfect credit well into the high 750s, but I will not have that threat hung over my head because it is their mistake and ignorance. The local number for TruGreen that covers the Tyler, Tx is 214-388-4771.

This is the second season that TruGreen has been servicing my lawn. I figured that I should give them two years as I know that these things take time. Well, in the middle of July 2011, the technician over treated my yard and dozens of burn areas show up in a matter of two days. The technician came out and confirmed that he had over treated the yard and would take care of it in a couple of weeks. His definition of take care of it was $10 of grass seed and I get to take it from there. I asked if he really thought that grass seed would take in the middle of August (dry season in Indiana). We did get the grass going, just in time for TruGreen to come out and shock the grass again, killing all the newly grown and making more burnt areas. Even though we have watered extensively and regularly, we have been struggling to keep the grass growing ever since. There are burnt areas everywhere in our lawn. I have cancelled my TruGreen account and will work on finding a new service. I definitely cannot recommend TruGreen.

A few months ago I received a notice from Trugreen stating that payments should not be made from the statement left by the technician. Payments should only be submitted when an invoice is received.
In early July, one treatment was done and a combined treatment was done in late July. The first invoice I received was for the early July treatment, which I received the last week of July. I sent the payment approximately 7 days after receiving the invoice. Three days after the payment was sent, I received a second invoice, it was the first week of August, which had all three treatments listed and it stated that my account was past due. That same evening, I received a call from a Trugreen representative stating my account was past due and I should make a full payment immediately.
I questioned the balance and was told payments must have crossed in the mail and a note would be attached to my account explaining such. Two days later, I received another phone call stating my account was overdue and payment should be made immediately. After explaining the situation again, I was told that the reason for the late notices were due to the fact that I was using Bill Pay and that payments made through Bill Pay take up to 10 days after the payment is received to post on my account. I mentioned the previous call and was told that this call would be noted on my account as well as the previous call. Two days later, I received a third call, during this call I informed the caller that I wanted to cancel my service because of the "payment delays" and the constant phone calls. I was told this would be noted on my account.
I received another call from the customer service representative asking what he could do for me, to not lose me as a customer. I explained the billing issue and his response was, "payments were being issued by a third party and the company did not realize these calls were being made. Also, Trugreen do not consider an account past due until 60 days from the first invoice."
An apology was made and after the rep checked my account, I was assured that my balance was zero. I spoke to that representative on August 15. Today, August 20, I received a letter dated 8/16 stating my account is past due and payment must be received within 7 days.

I contacted TruGreen several times. Then they sent out a technician to see the grass and he claimed it was weather stress. I called TruGreen and they said the same thing. It was early June then so there was no hot weather to cause my lawn to turn yellowish so fast. Even I was watering the lawn.
I had to pay my own money to repair the grass and TruGreen dare to ask me to pay for that service of $48.15. I called TruGreen many times and told them that I had to pay to repair my lawn. My yard has never had so many weeds and bare spots. Tru-Green started the applications in March and today I cancelled the service. I have complained about the amount of weeds several times, even left a message for the manager to contact me and he never did.
The tech responsible for this mess called me a little over a week ago and said he would be out in a day or two for a free application. He didn't seem interested in what I had to say and couldn't wait to get off the phone. I nearly told him not to bother but thought I would give this another chance.
Well, he showed up yesterday. The sign that they usually stick in the ground was hardly visible as it was laying flat on the ground among the weeds. He left my gate open at the back, broke the leg of a solar light. Usually, they would leave something on the door indicating what they did but I did not have anything. Aside from how crappy my yard looks, his visit yesterday would warrant not wanting this company to "treat" my yard.
They also like to call and are anxious to take care of my trees and bushes for $100, to which I told them why would I entrust you to do that when I have weeds that are thriving? After I said that, the guy hung up.
Don't waste your money or time with this company. Go with a small local company where you deal with the owner/operator.

I had scheduled TruGreen to come out and access my lawn, as the St. Augustine grass was yellowing in some areas. No dead grass, just yellowing. He did not dispute whether or not I had chinch bugs. The treatment to use was to work on the chinch bugs, and I asked numerous times that I could not have the lawn burnt. I stated that the house was on the market and clearly a for sale sign posted on the front lawn, and I could not have the St Augustine grass killed.
I specifically stated that I had another service that was to remediate the chinch bugs (well over a year ago). The chemicals were too strong, and killed the live grass. It has taken the entire last winter and spring for my lawn to recover, and still have bare patches in the front yard, where the grass is still filling in. I wanted to make sure that my lawn would not be killed by the chemicals since the property was on the market, and I couldn't afford to have the lawn damaged at this point in time. I made it abundantly clear with my concerns on the chemical treatment.
The technician assured me that the chemicals they use would not kill the grass. I was told that he would treat the lawn for chinch bugs. After time had passed, I noticed the lawn had died in large patches were the grass was alive, and there had been no presence of yellow grass. In addition, the entire lawn had dead grass surrounded by green grass. I don't understand why there was so much dead grass when I cut the lawn, and I collect all the grass clippings. Now the grass blades are still yellow which made me wonder whether there were chinch bugs present in the first place, and the grass itself was not as green as it had been before the chemicals were used. It seems that it's overwatering, much rainfall and lack of iron that is causing the yellowing. I was told on the first treatment that they were running a promotion; it would cost $46.00 less, a promotional discount of $23.00. Which would mean the total cost would be $23.00. So, I agreed to that, as I’m on an extremely tight budget.
After the lawn was dying, I didn’t know how I was going to handle this, so time passed. I was at my wits end since the house is on the market; the lawn burned in areas, and much dead grass would make an impact to curb appeal. I’ve been concerned with looking for work, and dealing with selling the property. The lawn problem was the least of my worries. The company contacted me; I told them I was extremely unhappy with their service that I was not going to pay the $23.00, and did not want them to do any further service. I further explained that the grass was still yellow, and the grass was dead in many patches (burned) where the grass was alive and overall, the lawn was brown.
TruGreen stated they would send someone to access the damages. I noticed the technician on the property, and I went out to speak with him regarding the issues with the treatment. The comment was that he could not access the property, as he had not seen it before the treatment. The technician wanted to treat the lawn, and I stated I didn’t want any further treatment to the property. I stated since I was unsatisfied with the initial treatment, why would I consider having them continue to treat the property? I would not be paying for Trugreen’s services, as they did not stand behind not burning and causing more damage to the lawn. He informed he could do nothing about the bill. The company would be the only one to deal with about it.
In the meantime, I received another bill. I received two bills; one for chinch bugs in the amount of $46.00, and the second bill for the lawn care in the amount of $46.00 (less $23.00). I didn’t understand why there were two bills when I was told by the technician that it would be $46.00 less the promotional discount of $23.00. So, the amount to be paid is not $23.00, but $69.00. A lot of double talk and plan old switch, and bait. No where did the technician stated $46.00 for the chinch, and $46.00 for the lawn care less $23.00. Furthermore, he was to treat for chinch bugs, and that was what I had them come out to treat. I would never have agreed upon that $69.00. I further explained to the technician that I was not in a position to pay a lot for the service; $23.00 for the initial and then $46.00 for each continuing service would be fine, as finances are tight like many millions other Americans.
Now I am at a standstill; not knowing where to turn, or what my rights are. Do you or anyone have an answer? What have others done in this similar situation with TruGreen? Tell me, does one pay for services rendered when damages are the results of their services? If you take your car in to get fixed and the work is not done, do you pay the bill? No one seems to stand behind their work or their word. I was assured that the chemicals used to treat the grass would not kill the grass, and the cost would be $46.00 less the promotional discount of $23.00, which would mean $23.00 for the first treatment. It seems that the yellowing was caused by overwatering and much rainfall, and lack of iron that is causing the yellowing not chinch bugs. They deceived me to get the work.

We both work very long hours and rely on our paid service to TruGreen to keep us informed of any issues we should have with our lawn and trees. We pay a separate service fee for our shrubs and trees. But then when I tried to get them to cancel our service, they would not contact us back and then show up at our house the next month to treat our lawn and dead tree. Since then I finally had a gentlemen by the name of Jeff **call me, he assured me that he would have someone contact us and try to rectify the situation. Jeff then assured me again that someone would call and make an appointment to look at the trees and discuss with us how to fix the situation. No one ever contacted us and once again they showed up to treat our lawn and trees the next month. Then to make the situation worse, in the interim of trying to get them to contact us to fix the first tree they let die another palm tree is now dying! We have since noticed that they are still treating the dying palm tree because upon examining the sick tree we can see the fertilizer and palm tree food around the base of the tree.
So once again I started trying to contact someone or anyone to tell them without a doubt I wanted my service to be stopped and wanted a refund for my dead trees and for my service for the last 6 months. It took me all day on a Saturday to get in touch with someone that could help me. I was hung up on 4 times while the answering service was trying to transfer my call so I had to resort to calling corporate headquarters and spoke with a gentlemen by the name of Ed **. I am a tech for TruGreen. I don’t know how I stumbled across this hilarity, but after reading these complaints, I feel I must comment.
I will start off by saying that I agree. TruGreen’s billing/sales practices need to be improved. I get complaints daily from customers that billing is a big issue. Incorrect charges, no payments posted, etc. That is definitely the weakness of the company and does need a massive reconstruction. But in regards to sales, it’s just that – sales. Their job is to sell you things. Just like any other retail store/service you go to. It’s your job as a customer to research what you really need. I don’t care what industry it is, if you allow the sales guy to decide what you need, they will sell you the world. Is it morally right? No. I see people all the time being sold lime apps/aerations that don’t need it. I do feel bad sometimes, but it’s a business and as the saying goes "a fool and his money are easily parted".
Now, here is where I will defend my company. While I do not think TruGreen is the best place to work, it is definitely not a shady company that "plants grubs" or weeds in lawns. ROFL. Unfortunately, like with any workplace, there are always a handful of workers who don’t give a ** about anyone and hate life. It really sucks if your tech is one of those guys. But likewise, it sucks if your barber is one of those guys, or your plumber or any other service person you pay.
However, personally, I do everything I can to help my customers get a perfect lawn. But much like most of you morons posting on here, 60% of my customers think it’s all on us. Like we just show up and turn your dump, crabgrass/weed infested lawn into a golf course with one or 2 treatments. Like we sprinkle magic dust and everything’s perfect. If I’ve been there a few times, there should be zero weeds and a nice dark green lawn. What a joke.
The fact is, the majority of you people crying about weeds and brown grass, are not doing your part. When you get into dumping chemicals on grass, understand your lawn now requires different attention than it did before. The occasional rainstorms do not provide anywhere near the amount of water needed. Consequently, the grass is also more affected by heat – therefore you can’t mow below 4.5", especially if you don’t water at least every other day for 20-30 minutes. This does not mean standing on your porch with a hose. This means either spending the money on in-ground irrigation or dragging sprinklers around the yard.
It’s not our problem that you are lazy, don’t listen to instructions and have unrealistic expectations. Lawns that are filled with weeds and/or grubs will take at least 2 seasons of treatments combined with you properly and consistently mowing and watering before you will have a nice lawn. It’s not rocket science that plants need water, sun and nutrients to grow. When you boost nutrients, but not water, what do you think is going to happen? The weed control needs water to work and weeds thrive off hot, dry areas.
TruGreen is not a magical solution to your piece of ** lawn. It’s a tool that, when combined with your efforts (watering/mowing), will help you get results faster than doing it yourself.Again, I know there are some employees that really don’t care and do crappy work. But at my branch in Albany, a good 70% of the guys who work here are good, experienced and have the customers’ best interest as a priority.

He asked me if I would be interested in a one-time lawn service for $60, indicating that there were no contracts involved. He serviced my lawn, and when he gave me the paperwork, he asked me if I would be interested in tree and scrub service to which I replied, "no." He said, "Well, your trees and scrubs look good."
Later that afternoon, I was contacted by telephone by a representative of TruGreen confirming that the service had taken place. She indicated that I had a double service and the amount would be $120. I protested indicating that their service person said nothing about a double service and nothing about $120-- something that I would have turned down. She further indicated that their full program was 11 services at $60 each. I protested indicating that their services were ridiculously expensive based on my past experience using lawn services, which typically charged $300 and some odd dollars for a yearly service. I asked her when the next planned service would be and she indicated that it would be the end of August.
Later I was called by Henry, the person who did the lawn service, and I told him that he never said anything about $120, just $60. He apologized for the misunderstanding, indicating that $60 would be removed from my bill and I would get one free service.
Today, July 27, I happened to go outside only to find a TruGreen rep performing a service. I asked him what he was doing, when I was clearly told the next service was scheduled for the end of August. He said that it was a tree and scrub service. Obviously, there was no point arguing with him so I called the local servicing office in Oldsmar, FL, 813-855-4887, and spoke with Sharon who could not have been less accommodating.
She would not listen to the logic of the fact that I was told that the next service was not until the end of August--continuously arguing that the service was for tress and scrubs. I told her a service is a service and I was told the end of August. Bottom line, she couldn't care less about my arguments and simply was not in the least sensitive or caring about the customer's needs.
I told her to remove my name from any future service. I further indicated that I would happily pay a bill for the amount of $60 and not a cent more. I told her that if she insisted on incorrectly billing me, I would choose to pay nothing and let them turn the account over to a collection agency and that I was not about to be bullied into paying the incorrect amount.
I would avoid these derelicts. They couldn't care less about their customers.

TruGreen called during the week of 5-30-2011 to promote their grub control service. I agreed to the grub control service. I also asked them to "spot" treat for weeds, since the weed control they applied during the last service was not effective. I specifically stated that I did not want any more fertilizer because we do not water the lawn, and the lawn was already stressed. As per TruGreen’s standard procedure, they followed-up the sales call with a second call to confirm the order. After confirming the grub control application, I again reiterated to the account manager that I did not want any fertilizer applied to the lawn. I just wanted them to spot treat any obvious weeds with a hand sprayer.
On 6-4-2011, a TruGreen technician serviced our property, and left a copy of the work order. The work order indicated that he applied a granular fertilizer, and spot treated weeds he saw. He did not apply any grub control. Basically, the service provided was just about 100 percent in error, and in direct contradiction with my specific request-- not to apply fertilizer since our lawn was stressed.
We promptly called the office to resolve the mistake, and were treated very rudely. We were finally told that the grub control would be applied the following week, and that our account would not reflect the fertilizer application. This did not happen. Again, I spoke with TruGreen on 7-20-2011 (Ryan), and was told that our account has been canceled because we've strayed from "their standard program". I was also rudely told that they have no record to confirm that I did not want the fertilizer application done on 6-4-2011. This was in fact either a lie, or a consequence of their records being altered, since in the past they had been able to confirm the inaccurate application, and had agreed to credit my account.
As of today, we have not received a grub control application. We are still receiving an over-due account statement; showing the outstanding cost for the fertilizer application done in error on 6/4/2011. Our account was also canceled with our knowledge, and without even the courtesy to tell us that they would not be doing the grub control. We have attempted to speak with someone in the corporate office too, but with no success.

If you don't want to get into the position I am in, don't ever call them. They will take that as an authorization to start the service. I told them that I don't even own the property yet, but would like to get a quote. Big mistake! They went ahead and treated it and told me to make sure water supply is good.
Now how can I do that if I don't even own the property yet? They gave me a price and I told them I will let them know if and when I am ready to utilize their services. I called to the office and I have to admit they are good at one thing and that is arguing and saying things that are not facts like I authorized the service. Like I said, I don't even own the property yet and still waiting for loan approval.
I know after reading other consumer complaints that if you don't pay for what you didn't authorize, they will just turn the invoice into collections.

I have been billed for TruGreen lawn chemical treatment which was never requested or authorized. In 2010, I paid for an annual program in one lump sum over the phone with a credit card. I did not wish to renew the service this year, due to its high cost and limited benefits. I received a bill for a lawn treatment which was completed back in April. I returned the bill, indicating that the service was not renewed and I did not intend on paying it. Now, they have threatened to send this small bill ($63.30) over to an outside collection agency. I did not sign a contract, and do not believe that I should be billed for a service that I did not request or authorize.
After speaking with one of the customer service representatives this morning, I was again informed that the service renewed automatically and that I was obligated to pay for the one treatment. I requested to speak to a supervisor, which I was unable to do at that time. I do not have a habit of reporting things like this, but in this particular case, I am very upset and feel that this company has deceptive business practices, trying to bully customers into paying for services that are not requested. I called TruGreen in March 2011 (Hagerstown MD office) to request an organic treatment plan. I am in the Chesapeake Bay drainage zone and it is requested that chemicals not be used on our lawns. I also have children that play outside daily. I paid well over $300 for the program. The first treatment was on March 21st and they put down herbicides (non-organic) that I didn't request. I cancelled the treatment that day in fear that they would come out again and put down non-organic chemicals.
Well, despite cancelling the program and getting refunded, they came out again on June 6th and put down more non-organic chemicals. I called again but they told me that they couldn't cancel it until the clinician reported what chemicals he used as by law that has to be recorded. I asked that he call me the next day to let me know it was cancelled. I took his name and phone number, J. **, just in case.
Well, he never called me, so I called the number three days later and it was a discontinued # (go figure). In the meantime, I noticed that parts of my grass are now brown (that were not brown prior to June 6th). When I called the main office in Hagerstown, they told me Joe was on another line. I built a new retirement home four years ago. The home was situated in a new development and my home was the first built. After the initial construction, I hired a professional to prepare the property for the seeding of my lawn area. The seed used was of the best quality (Kentucky bluegrass) and costs over $1000.00 for seed alone. The second year I hired and signed a contract with TruGreen for their lawn service. TruGreen responded well and by the end of that year my lawn looked really good. On the third year I again signed a contract with TruGreen for their services.
By the end of that year my lawn looked really great and was like a plush carpet. It became a model for the neighborhood. By the end of that year, I started to notice a change in the service provided. TruGreen was late for the last two application by as much as four weeks. I complained and was given a number of reason, none of which made much sense. I gave TruGreen the benefit of the doubt and signed for the fourth or current year. That was a big mistake on my part as it's been all downhill since.
They were again late with applications. I called and complained and they assured me all would be well. My early spring application should have been at the beginning of April but was never applied until the end of the first week in May. I wrote to the local TruGreen manager complaining about the service, but never received any response. In the past three weeks I have called three times and requested a review of my lawn by one of their managers. On the third call they did respond but after talking to that person it became rather apparent that he lacked the knowledge necessary to advise or suggest a solution. Basically he just stood, listened to me but did not suggest or offer remedies to my lawn trouble.
That was a week ago and I have yet to hear from TruGeen. My lawn looks really bad and has thinned out considerably. What was once plush and green is now half grass and half mud. It's disgusting and many of my new neighbors have asked what's wrong. Homes built well after mine have lawns to be proud of. I've spent a lot of money to have a good lawn and TruGeen destroyed what was once plush and green. It's also been a source of continued aggravation for me. I'm not sure what to do next to get out of this horrid situation.

But they harassed me by telephone to sign back up until I finally had to threaten to report them to the authorities. A couple of years went by and one of the managers came out and promised me they have new technicians. And he guaranteed I would see a difference in my lawn. My wife and I decided to give them one more chance and paid for 6 months of service. But after about 4 months into the service, I was not seeing any improvement. I disregarded what the manager said and we moved from the home. We figured TruGreen would just fulfill their end of the agreement and finish the 6 months of service we paid.
In January of 2011 (while we were living in another city), they came by after the 6-month period and put some chemicals on the lawn. And they proceeded to bill me $150 without consent. I called and spoke with Patrick at the corporate office and Dolly at the Pensacola, FL office. They both said the charges would be reversed and that they were completely sorry. The service offered by the local company is great. I have been with them for 22 years. Up until recently the bill was dropped at the door when the service was completed. Now I get the same paperwork but without the billing info. Bills come erratically and not always timely. I have outstanding balances because of the crediting lags and then I call and I have credits. I do not have time to create a balance sheet and keep track of each individual charge. It is difficult to decipher what services have been completed.
There is no reference number on the paperwork dropped at the door to cross reference with the invoice that comes at a later date. Now I get phone calls that are recordings regarding my account asking me to hold while they take their time to come to actually state the purpose of the call. I consider it harassment to receive a call, sometimes multiple calls about an invoice I have yet to receive. It has become a full time job to handle my account.
Their solution is to have it automatically billed to my credit card. The system does not inspire confidence. The tracking in my opinion would be equally difficult. Looking at the complaints here, I am not alone. I am in the process of interviewing a replacement company that can provide clear statements and credit payments on a timely basis. Too bad Anaheim office you guys are great. I will miss your first rate service, but I am worn out with a confusing non local billing system. If there is a solution I am willing to listen.
Irritation and time wasted for no reason. I have had problem with this company every time I do business with them and nothing has changed. They continue to trip over each other and provide duplicate phone services, ** off the very customer they are trying to serve.
I’m not sure how any corporate organization during these economic times operates to chase customers away. I see from this site that they are one of the most complained about companies. The only way to help correct this type of problem is to contact corporate officers. They are so insulated by corporate customer support that a customer is unable to go any higher to get to the higher-archy, again consistent with TruGreen listed as one of the most complained about companies. We were solicited at home to sign up for TruGreen lawn service. Our lawn was evaluated on the spot and we were told we needed aeration and deep seeding to combat invasive grasses and compacted soil. We signed up. A technician showed up on Sept. 10, day number 17 of a regional drought, to aerate and deep seed our lawn. Needless to say, the aerator had no affect on the brick hard ground. No plugs of earth were created, nowhere for the seed to go. TruGreen has a satisfaction guarantee. We called to express our concerns and ended up cancelling our contract out of frustration in trying to deal with the management at the TruGreen office.
We were contacted in writing by the office of Kevin ***, general manager of the DC North branch. TruGreen wants our business again. They want to make things right. I talked to another manager and am told a technician would be sent to aerate the lawn free of charge, if we sign up for their services again. (We have already paid for the previous, ineffective aeration and several other visits by this time).
We said we would give them another chance. A technician arrives several days later but he fertilizes the lawn instead. We called and founnd out the free aeration had never been scheduled but they would put in a request. A technician shows up several days later and drops more seed on the lawn but does not aerate. We called again and are told the technician would be scheduled to aerate. A week goes by, we called to find out when we can expect to see the service and are told that the service order had been cancelled by the technician.
I then scheduled a visit with the technician. He came to my house and said the lawn looks fine, except where it's dead or has been taken over by invasive grasses and he will not aerate because aeration will not work on our soil because it is compacted. The technician said he can leave me more seed however or charge us for another application of fertilizer. Meanwhile, several of our neighbors have rented a machine and have successfully aerated their own lawns at a fraction of what we have spent on TruGreen.
TruGreen does not live up to its promise of customer satisfaction. The attitude from the managers is the epitome of rude and unprofessional. We have spent hundreds of dollars and still have not received a true aeration of our lawn. We are cancelling our service again.

This was a direct result of the pesticides that the company had put down to control the weeds. My lawn which I had paid $6000 for sod on the front and sides was dying. I called TruGreen prior to the last treatment and they said that the lawn needed to be irrigated/thatched. I said that I didn't want the service.

He offered me a discount and wanted to send somebody out to look at the lawn again to recommend additional treatments. I said no, I don't want your service anymore.
I finally got a confirmation number on September 27th and there was heavy rain all morning and I was home at the time. According to TruGreen, they came out and did a treatment anyway and then tried to tell me that their records showed that I cancelled on September 28th. I said that was a lie and read back the cancellation number given to me on September 27th. The operator told me that they had to refer to their manager.
On October 9th, I received a phone call from TruGreen stating that I owe them $254. I had received a previous invoice number ** stating for the last treatment I cancelled, I owe them $129.27. I then explained to the individual that I cancelled the contract. I owe nothing and up to that point, September 27th, I had no balance. The representative for TruGreen said that I owe this bill and I said that I am not paying for something that I cancelled. She replied that after 90 days, it would be referred to collections. The lady at Allison Park office (Erica) said I agreed not to pre-pay for any service. I said I told many, many times that I don't want any more service from TruGreen. She threatened me that I have to pay the bill. Otherwise, they will send the information to a collection agency to collect the payment. Anyone have any similar experience? Can anyone suggest me what to do in this type of situation? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

This company does not have good bookkeeping which in my opinion is the most important part of the business. I have been over charged called them up several times a week and they still did not get it right and I still did not get my charge reversed. They call you several time a week to sell you more things that you don't need.

Truegreen should be called "trueincompetant". After a year of service, they have destroyed my lawn. Their response is always that they'll come back and fix it next year. But each time they come they run their machines around for about 7 minutes and leave. The results are always bad. Do not pay them anything in advance. That's when they treat you the worst!

I have perimeter pest control and spring/summer lawn treatments through TruGreen/Leisure Lawn, five treatments of each per year. For the last couple of years they have had the practice of calling and saying, "Hey, you've had your regular treatments and we wondered when we can come out and do that sixth treatment!" I keep telling them no and finally told them to put me on their do not call list. They called again two days later! I'm almost ready to cancel the service entirely.

My wife was approached back in August of 2010 by a field representative and offered lawn care service since other neighbors in the development were also using their service. As an incentive to sign up "now", a fifty dollar off coupon (discount) was offered and an area manager was to contact me by phone to outline the services expected and to schedule the first visit. No one called. However within three weeks from initial contact, we arrive home after work and find that a little warning sign was placed in our yard stating that chemicals had been applied and caution needed to be used. The tag stated that it was for insect control.
Within the week, we received a bill (invoice) for $62 for "Fall lawn service". We called Trugreen immediately and inquired as to why they were applying insect control at the end of the season and why the $50 credit does not show up. She was told that we needed to present the coupon in order to receive the discount. We were never told this tidbit at the time of the sale. Additionally, no one ever contacted us to outline the upcoming service.
At the beginning of October, my wife was again approached by a salesman stating that our lawn need the autumn aeration and seeding but for a separate price of $195 which would need to be billed separately from the lawn care. She agreed to the service and the price but asked if the service could be performed while we were at home. A date of October 09, 2011 was agreed upon by both and we anticipated the service.
On October 8th, we received an invoice for the "fall lawn service" and stating that the service had been performed on October 6th. We called the corporate number to complain that the service was supposedly performed on a date not agreed to, and the service had not been performed as there was no "telltale" evidence that the yard had been aerated (no cylindrical holes in the yard and no evidence of seeding).
On October 11th, Trugreen called my cell phone number inquiring if I was ready to settle the invoice for the fall lawn care. I again mentioned that the service had never been performed and that I needed a manager to contact me to inspect the lack of work that they were billing for. They stated that a Mr. Donald ** would be contacting me within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Mr. ** never contacted me. I have made at least five subsequent calls to the corporate office and each time was assured that the situation would be corrected and that Mr. ** would contact me within 24 to 48 hours.
After two frustrating weeks and more calls to TruGreen, I finally was able to reach a manager. Mr. John ** was contacted at 6:35 pm, October 19, 2010 and after seeing the record of the calls made, agreed to issue a full credit for the work not performed and to issue the $50 discount to the original invoice for the initial service that "supposedly" had been performed. He mentioned that he would have Mr. ** contact me to set up a time to perform the service being billed but was told that I was satisfied with getting the credit and cancelling any service Trugreen would perform. I terminated the service altogether.
I will endeavor to acquire a beautiful lawn in the spring without the help (or no help) of TruGreen. I will never use their service again and if they approach my home with any sales pitches, they will be sent packing directly.

I purchased six-treatment package for my lawn. I was satisfied with their service until Aug when Robertson County had not had measurable rain for 8+ weeks. The company came out and applied fertilizer and weed control to my lawn that was burned-up from heat and lack of rain. I called and complained, asked that no more applications be applied until we had some rain.
The next day, I looked out and there was a TruGreen truck and a man applying fertilizer to my lawn (no grass in yard all burned-up). I told the serviceman about my conversation with an agent the day before and was basically told that this is a corporation out of Memphis and that he had not received any notification. Basically, gotcha! As I only have one application left, I will never, never purchase from TruGreen again.

My complaint is like so many I've already read. In the spring of 2010, Chemlawn called and talked to my husband about service. I ignored their calls. We had used them the previous year, 2009, after an absence for a while. In 2009, we had a spring and fall application. When my husband got off the phone, I questioned him about signing up again but he said he only agreed to one application in the spring. I called them to ask about my putting down grass seed and how would their spray affect the seed. They said it would inhibit sprouting, so I said be sure I'm home when the kid comes so I can direct his area of spray away from the new grass. He came. I was there. He sprayed appropriate areas.
One Sept. day, I returned home to find the sign in my yard indicating they had sprayed a fall application and received a bill. When I called to say this was unauthorized and I wouldn't pay the bill, they said it's like a phone or newspaper bill . The service just keeps going. If that's the case, why did they call that spring and speak with my husband if not to initiate service?
They are adamant about receiving payment and have already called to demand such. Without a written agreement, why am I obligated to pay? I am so frustrated! Has anyone found any avenue of recourse? This seems to be a common (bad) practice of this company. I plan to spread the word to my family and friends of their poor business practices .

Tru Green came out to my house and offered to beat their competitor, Scotts Lawn Service, with a better lawn and better price. Well, I tell you, this has been a complete nightmare! They started in August 2010 (it is now October 2010) and the treatments are supposed to be every two months just like Scotts Lawn Service. Scotts charges were $37 per two months; Tru Green supposedly treated my yard on the beginning of August (this is exactly two months from Scotts Lawn treatment), and I noticed immediately that my beautiful green bermuda grass turned brown and started to die!
They said that my first payment was on them; it was some special promotion they were having. Well, on August 16th 2010, they deducted $37 from my account. I was angered because they completely lied, so I stopped any future deductions from them but then they continued to try and deduct additional payments throughout August and September without treating again and no treatment was due anyways.
Well, near the end of September, they send a technician out to observe the lawn. They leave a note on the door stating that the lawn looks green and lively, but no, it did not. They ruined my lawn! I went back to Scotts who fixed my yard, thank goodness, and I pay my payments to them online. They are so sure of their service and you pay after treatment.
Believe me, once you see your lawn, you will continue service with them. Much unlike Tru Green whose customer service is rude and horrible. They had the audacity to call and yell at me over the phone while I was at work, telling me that I owed them $117? How is that? It's only October 11th 2010, not even two months yet and no treatment was due! The representative said that they tried to authorize three treatment payments in September and they declined. I was floored. No one authorized three treatments of anything.
I will never deal with such an unprofessional company again. I am much happier back with Scotts and their technicians and customer service are very professional and courteous. Tru Green ruined my lawn and they continue to call and harass me after I told them that I do not want their service.

Prior to that, I had been waiting to see if it was going to come back, but when he sprayed again. I got worried then I started calling to talk to someone, no one will return my calls. My neighbors want to know what did he do to our lawn? I am very upset. They need to replace my front lawn.

Placed many service calls, none of which were addressed. Constantly receiving collection calls when my account never goes beyond 30 days. Most recently a "technician" was sent to my house to try and up-sell a service. When questioned why my lawn was in poor condition, he stated it was due to drought. I then brought his attention to his report that stated watering conditions were very good. He then blamed it on inferior quality grass seed. I told him they seeded the lawn. He told me a "manager" would call me to discuss. That never happened. I am canceling my service. They are Horrific.

I have been using Trugreen for 3 years. During which time, many phone calls of complaint were made always asking for a manager to speak with and to come visit to see the bald spots yellow spots and 75% of the lawn full of weeds. Needless to say, no one would respond. On 2 occasions only, I had a visit from a "supervisor" who claimed he himself would service me but that never happened.
My back lawn is just a land of hay, many bald spots and as I said the weeds have just taken over. I decided this was the last season. They had asked me to be patient and the grass would recover, water properly and everything would be fine, but it never gets corrected. So Trugreen is out of my life and I hope people read the complaints before doing business with them. I just wasted money and plenty of aggravation.

Although I had service with TruGreen in the past, I had decided to give them another chance. After a year of service, I had been satisfied. Once the year was up, TruGreen sent notice that they were improving their product; however, it would increase in price. The result was that whatever was used, burned out my grass and I had more weeds than ever. I repeatedly called for an inspector, supervisor or manager to come out and inspect the lawn. I called again and again without any satisfaction. Jennifer would tell me okay and nothing.
Finally, I called and said, "Do not make any more applications to my lawn until a manager comes to inspect my lawn." Once again, Jennifer made note of that. Three days later, while I was out of town, Cody had made application to my lawn. I called to complain that the application was made after I requested it not to be until I had met with a manager. Jennifer's response was, "Oh, yes. It is written here, but you won't be charged for the application." I told her that I am very concerned about the damage that the chemicals have caused my lawn and I wanted a manager to come out and inspect it.
This is six to seven weeks of complaints without response! She said that she would pass it on. Another week or two later, I just called and cancelled the service with TruGreen. The next day, a man named Charles called, after I repeatedly told him "no, it was too late and that they had more than enough time to fix the problem." He pleaded with me asking to use these last three months, October to December, to fix the problem. He had worn me down and I agreed that if they could fix it, I would give them a chance.
A few moments later, a woman called me renewing my agreement with TruGreen. I explained to her that what I agreed to was that TruGreen could fix the problem and I would consider it after that. She said that Charles said that I was renewing my service beginning in January 2011. I told her, "Never mind. I do not want TruGreen and tell Charles not to call me today." Since September 28, 2010, I have received phone calls from 727-538-1620--over 20 phone calls--without leaving a message.
Sometimes, I get as many as four calls a day from this number and no messages were left. If TruGreen was so interested in keeping me as a satisfied customer, I suggest that they should have taken care of the problem at the onset of my initial complaint and sent an inspector. I want nothing more than for TruGreen to stop calling me. Cease and discontinue contact in any way with me.

For 6 years I had to deal with numerous amounts of Trugreen Chemlawn employee's in my personal custody and visitation cases because the mother (Marianne **) of my children works for Trugreen Chemlawn and she has used all her co employee's against me. Nothing other than to harass me, slander me and embarrass me. She has never used no one outside of this company what so ever. Their names are Steve **, Lisa **, Renee **, Jennifer **, Wade **, Mary **, Brenda **, Carl **, Timothy ** Mary **, Ernest ** (EJ **), and a Tony **.
I had Filed a formal complaint back on 3-10-2008, which was ignored completely. That I just had another Court Hearing on 10-1-2010 in which 7 Trugreen Chemlawn and former employee's show up to. This has been going on for 6 long years. I contacted the Branch Manger Steve ** the day before my trial and told him that I planned on Filing a 1 million dollar law suit against his company for allowing this abusive behavior to take place at his branch and Mr. ** told me to go for it.I was outraged with his response to say, go for it and that he would continue to let all these employees to show up the very next day at my custody and visitation hearing. The case is ** vs. Murray and not Trugreen Chemlawn vs. **. Trugreen Chemlawn has no business being in my personal custody and visitation cases that has been going for 6 years of abuse brought on by Trugreen chemlawn.
Now I ask, please give me one good reason why I and my family should not file a 1 million dollar law suit against Trugreen Chemlawn for standing in the way of me of trying to have a normal relationship with my two children and for allowing Mr. Steve ** (Branch Manger) allowing this kind of abusive behavior to go on for 6 years.
If you can do that Trugreen Chemlawn is better then God himself since I understand that Trugreen Chemlawn is a Christian oriented family which I do not see. I expect for a reply to this serious matter but I am sure I will not get one because I have read the several hundreds of other people's complaints against Trugreen Chemlawn. That I have never seen such a thing to take place by a muti-million dollar company to involve themselves in a personal Custody and Visitation Case

My wife switched over to Tru-Green from another lawn service company because she was able to negotiate with the Tru-Green route driver in the area a lesser price. Tru-Green bills every two months. Half the year went by and the bills were okay. One bill came in for $50.00 but it was explained to me it was a special treatment for Chinch bugs, so I accepted the explanation. Now the regular lawn service is being billed at $50, and Tru-Green is pretending they never agreed to a different price. But they cannot explain away the previous bills for the lesser, negotiated amount. I have the documents to prove this.

I canceled twice, but they said I had not and kept billing and calling. I finally gave in and paid a final $122 just to get rid of them. I will never, ever deal with TruGreen again. They are unethical in that they kept "treating" after I had canceled and they said they had no record of my canceling. I use them for weed control. I have been a client for several years. They are unable to kill the weeds in my yard due to incomplete and inept service and attention to detail. I know this because prior to this, I knew the technician who serviced my yard and together, we were able to get the weeds under control. When that technician left, then the problems began. I have used small flags to indicate the problem areas, but that did not help. I have spray-painted standing weed patched bright orange so the tech could not miss them but that didn't help either. Today is the 9th day in a row that I have called and asked for a manager to come out and take a look at the mess their company has made of my yard.
