I signed up with them for a whole year... They kept promising that my lawn will get better. I even put topsoil and new sprinkler system and watered as they always advised. The seeding they did was a horrific job despite being place on new topsoil... very little change for a lot of money. I should've done it myself. I'm sure I would have done a much better job!!

I used them for 1 treatment w/out a contract almost 8 months ago, and they won't stop calling to solicit more business. I've begged all of them to take me off of their calling list. They call like 4-5 times a week. Calling. That's a lot of soliciting. They just won't give up. I have small children and you have no idea how annoying these calls are, as they are, when we are sitting down to dinner or when I'm just plain busy with my kids. PLEASE MAKE THE CALLS STOP. I feel like at this point, it is down right harassment. I've said as much to each salesman, that calls, and they say they will take me off the list but don't.

On 8/20/08, a technician said he came to our home to spray a regular application. I did not receive any paperwork, nor was there any sign that this happened. I noticed several large brown spots around 9/1/08. By 9/8/08, the spots were getting larger. I called on 9/8/08 to ask for someone to come out and inspect and spray. That is when I was told the lawn had been sprayed on 8/20/08. I asked that someone come out anyway to see why the lawn was dying. I was told someone would be there on 9/10/08. No one showed up. I called back on 9/15/08 to complain about the spots that were growing progressively worse. I was told that someone would 'try' to come out that week. No one came until 9/24/08. The tech left a note that he applied the regular fertilizer scheduled for September. He did not address the issue of the brown spots.
I went out on 9/27/08 and lifted back the totally dead lawn and discovered grubs/worms all over. Not just a few but about 20 in a 4"x4" spot. I called again to complain on 9/29/08. I was told that the tech had looked and didn't see anything wrong with the lawn. By this time 2/3rds of my lawn was totally dead. A manager finally came out on 10/02/08 and said he sprayed for the grubs/worms and the note he said, that yes, the lawn was dead and would need to be re-seeded or sod put in next spring.

We moved into our house in April 2007. The lawn was in bad shape when we moved in and I started using TruGreen over 1 year ago to help improve the way our lawn looked. Since then, things have gotten worse. We have given them a lot of money over the past year. I have called them many times to confront them about the problems we've had with weeds, fungus, and the patchiness of our lawn. All they have done is asked for more money and not helped any of the problems. I spoke to ** who is a Manager and he was supposed to get involved and fix our problems free of charge. I asked that we not receive any more routine services until we uncover the problem, because paying $33.00 for each treatment isn't helping our lawn.
This was over two months ago and I have heard nothing except from someone named Marshall, who has called three times asking to come out and aerate and seed our lawn. I explained to him each time that I am working with Adam and that nothing is to be done to the lawn until he takes a soil sample and uncovers the problem. It has been a waste of money and my lawn looks worse than ever. I have taken pictures of it and have copies of all the bills.

This company is the worst. I have used Scott's for years and decided I would try something different. TruGreen was horrible. First of all, watch out. Their services are continued year after year unless you call to cancel. And even then, I would request something in writing. They say that basic services are the ones that carry over, but even the extras. I got caught with the aeration. Cost me $126. Oh yeah, and corporate was no help. My grass has never looked this bad. Oh yeah, and they say they mailed you something but have no proof. WHAT A SCAM!

I selected my lawn care service based on the quality of service provided my parents. Big mistake, my service came from a different area, Ellenwood, GA. At the time of selection, I explained what I wanted, no side yards or back yard treated as they were a work in progress. I did want a strip 20 x 60 feet treated, I made extra for that. Guess what is not being treated, the strip. The weeds are as healthy as they were a year ago. I have talked to the technician, a sales rep and the crack office staff. I have even marked off the area, using TruGreen signs - nothing. They insist on treating the side yards and have managed to kill some of the grass that was starting to fill in. Their defense - we normally treat the side yards. If they could not deviate from their norm, then they should not have accepted my business.
The last time I called the office, they told me that I needed to talk to a manager and they would have one call me. A month later and I am still waiting. A quick way to get me off the phone. I know from experience that all TruGreen offices are not the same, but if you have to deal with the Ellenwood, Georgia office, fold your tent and run. They will take your money and you can forget quality of service because they don't care.

This year, I noticed bagworms on my trees, so I call TruGreen to come out and analyze and start treating my trees and shrubs. I also had installed new evergreens and trees on the property. On September 29, the tech came out and sprayed liquid fertilizer on everything on the property except 6 arborvites he said were new. He said, "You don't treat them the first year." Nobody told me this. So that means he sprayed all my other 6 new trees and 12 evergreens. The next week, my new evergreens showed signs of being chemically burnt. After spending $10,000 on new beautiful trees, Chemlawn has destroyed them. I called and a Rep came out. He tried to blame it on everything you could think of but them. He said they were planted wrong. It's a three-year needle drop.
I told him I watch the technician take the hose and place it in the center of the tree then walk away to the next one and do the same thing. He admitted that the liquid fertilizer should have been placed in the ground. This was the second treatment that they had treated my new trees with. This company should not have treated them if they were new. You could see they were just planted. The rep walked away with no apology or suggestion as to what they can do to fix this problem. I am posting this on October 16th, 2008. If those new trees and evergreens die, I will take further action. It was totally neglect on the part of Trugreen Chemlawn. All I wanted was to protect my investment in those new trees, and have a company like Chemlawn take care of them.

Purchased a package from Malcolm. He had to use my cell phone to call it in. Should have been my first clue. He pressed for me to purchase the aeration. I told him I would but I wouldn't be able to afford it until Oct. I was told - Guaranteed that it would be done in Oct. 9-11. It was completed. They debited my credit card, fraudulently. I would strongly advise against ever using this service if that's what you want to call it.

TruGreen gave us an estimate without visiting our property. They told us they would do two weed treatments for which I prepaid and then seed the yard. Then they came and seeded our front yard only. I called and told them we needed weed treatment for the entire yard first. I was told that they would drop the charge for the seeding, since the weed treatment should have been done first, and come out and do two treatments before the seeding. I was also told it was a mistake that the entire yard was not treated. They never came out and did the treatments. When I called back two weeks later, they said they had underestimated the size of our yard so they changed our status to cancelled. We were not notified of the cancellation, so now it is too late to treat the Creeping Charlie for this year. TruGreen promised to make it right, but instead billed me for the remainder I owed for the wrong job half done.

I have service at my residence with company for several years. The person working on my lawn has done an excellent job. My problem lies with your collection department which will call my residence after 9:00 PM and harass and calls my cell phone numerous times day and night. I depend on the stick in the lawn or the bag on the door after a treatment has been provided. Sometimes I have wrong, but I pay what I owe and will not pay what I don't. I run 4 corporations and own 2 more, which keeps me extremely overwhelmed. When I receive the number of calls, some interrupting me in business meetings that I have, it becomes harassment. The latest has been over $56 which I don't think I owe, but am going to pay anyway.
For two months, I asked for a running invoice to the first of the year, and just yesterday received it with an employee named Jennifer of the Montgomery office demanding a payment today. She was probably the most friendly of all of the callers, but somehow your employees think that life centers around TruGreen. Because of this harassment, I am discontinuing use of your company. I believe the problem may be with Jennifer's boss or either her bosses' boss. Owning over 450 apartment units, my tenants are not treated in this manner.
PS: if I receive one more call after dark, I will file charges of harassment.

I sent in my credit card payment for service and they overcharged me and when I called to complain they said they would credit the difference and instead they CHARGED me again for the difference. When I called to complain about that they refused to let me talk to a supervisor and then when I finally was able to talk to someone they said it would take 10-12 days to straighten this all out and she also refused to give me her entire name or a direct contact number to reach her. By the way her name was Candance (very rude and abrupt in conversion as if to say, OH WELL TOO BAD FOR YOU!).

My company that manages a client's property was notified by a phone call that a $40.00 refund was due to my client (property owner) on July 31, 2008. The service with the company ended in 2007. The representative assured that the check will be processed and sent out within 4-6 weeks since that date. It is now over 2 months and when I contacted the company, they had the wrong date and incomplete information about the refund check. The owner of the company should train his staff and do his best to serve his clients the most ethical way. As a brokerage and property manager, I cannot recommend this company to my clients.

I put a request in through Service Magic for contractors who can give me an estimate on lawn maintenance and repair. Several of the companies made an appointment with me, came out, inspected my property and made recommendations for this year and next year. All professional in uniform, vehicle, speaking and product knowledge.
Joe, on the other hand called me on my cell, says his company has worked on the property several years ago. He says he know the property size, what fertilizers and supplements he was going to apply and so on. He never attempted to make an appointment, see the property in its worse state ever, and tell me over the telephone this is what he should do. How can I put faith in a company where I never meet the person I'm talking to, trust his word over the phone what applications will be necessary now, next spring and so on, and make a verbal contract over the phone. This may be the way Joe conducts his business, even with his follow ups today, but I don't.
I had sent Rutgers Coop Extension a soil sample of my lawn and the results were appalling - ph 4.45 suitable for cranberries and blue berries, very high potassium and magnesium levels, insect infestation, and possible fungus. Now how could Joe make a recommendation over the phone and not even see me or the property? I said to Joe over the phone, "There is no way we can do any future business anymore." He just pissed me off. That's why I'm writing to you. I will hire a more reputable firms through my own screening.

While out of state on business for six months, I received invoices every six weeks for a service that should have been 4-5 times per year. When I returned home after the house sold, my lawn was a complete mess! There were weeds everywhere. I took photos, called the local office and no one ever bothered to call me back. I have now contacted their headquarters. I would never, ever recommend this company to treat your lawn!
I'm out over $150 for treatments they did not make.

I went online to the website to sign up for a consult of them to come out and look at my lawn and according to the website if you signed up online that the initial treatment was to only cost 29.99. I did this and someone contacted me. The man on the phone said that someone would be out to see me. While on the phone the man asked me about how much lawn I had I told him aproximately what that was as far as how big my lot was but there is a house in the middle of it. After talking to him about the services I was under the assumption that the person would come out and measure my lawn and then give me an estamate and something in writing telling me what was going on with my lawn and that if anything was done that it would only cost me 29.99 as it says on the website.
Now a man came out and looked at my lawn and NEVER told me what was wrong with it and he said that he was going to do an application to the lawn. I initially agreed as I was still under the assumption that at somepoint I would get a complete write up as to what was needed for my lawn and what to do as far as watering the lawn. I went inside and after a few miniutes the man was gone and on my door handle was a plastic bag with a bill for over 100.58 for the stuff he put on my lawn. Now the man never came back to me and spoke to me and never did i see him measure the lawn as I have seen others do. I only got in the mail a bill again and a paper telling me of the services they offer. OK where is my free inspection and what happened to the 29.99 first application.
Now I have been receiving bills from them as well as phone calls telling me that they never heard of a 29.99 first application and they told me that they did 2 applications that day. I never authorized them do do 2 applications. AND I ONLY SEEN THE MAN GO OVER MY LAWN 1 TIME. They told me on the phone that the chemicals were together in the machine when they applied it. Well i dont care what was in there because on THEIR website is states still to this day that the 29.99 first application is if I signed up online and had them contact me. THATS WHAT I DID.
They still continue to harrass me by phone calls telling me that I have to provide the proof of the 29.99 fee online and that still the second stuff they put on I will still have to pay the full price. This is a ripoff and I feel that they are misleeding people into having them come out and then hitting them with all these fees that they are not expecting.
After they came out and did the application to my lawn, half of my back yard grass DIED and will not grow. And part of my front lawn has also some brown spots. I spoke to a man at the Home Depot and he said that they burned my lawn with the chemicals. They are still calling my home harrassing me for the payment in full. Even though I have put do not call me in writing and sent it to them they still continue to call me.

I was a MASTER GREEN/TRUGREEN customer till the end of 2007. Every year at the beginning of spring, I used to call MASTER GREEN/TRUGREEN to signup for a new service for the current year or MASTER GREEN/TRUGREEN used to call me to sign up for new service. Each year I order a different number of applications per year and for different amounts of money per application.
At the beginning of 2007, when TRUGREEN called me, I told them that I would not sign up for the service in 2007, because my lawn condition was not good even after three years of service by them. At the request of their service personnel, I signed up for 8 more applications and asked them to cancel my account at the end of the year. I had explicitly mentioned to TRUGREEN that the order to service my lawn is only for one year (2007). They agreed to it and started new service in 2007. My order was very explicit and only for eight applications, nothing more and nothing less. My account was canceled with TRUGREEN at the end of last year (2007).
This year I did not receive any telephonic call or information from TRUGREEN, informing me, that TRUGREEN is providing me of any service, nor I called TRUGREEN to order any service from TRUGREEN. I was/am NOT a customer of TRUGREEN this year. TRUGREEN had put fertilizer in my lawn without my permission in the spring of 2008. This lawn was treated with fertilizer by me just two days before TRUGREEN had applied fertilizer in my lawn. TRUGREEN had burnt my lawn and this was informed to TRUGREEN. TRUGREEN did not pay for the damages that they caused to my lawn and I had to spend lot of money to revive my lawn. I request TRUGREEN to compensate for the damages that they did to my lawn.
Now, I received an invoice multiple times from TRUGREEN for $40.00 for the application they put and that I did not order. I do not owe any money to TRUGREEN. All this information is provided to TRUGREEN multiple times by me and still they called me regarding this invoice multiple times even during odd times of the day. TRUGREEN tried to harass my family by calling at odd hours.
Now TRUGREEN has sent this alleged debt to the collection agency to tarnish my credit rating. They are using scare tactics to collect money for a service that I did not request. TSI (collection agency) has sent a letter to me asking to pay this bill which I do not owe.

I signed up with TruGreen for monthly lawn care with an understanding that the charge per application was $50. After the first application the lawn looked terrible. They came out and applied chemicals again with the net effect of killing my entire front lawn. They charged me an additional $30 for the reapplication despite the salespersons insistence that the repplications would be free.
My front lawn is dead, and I have absolutely no intention of paying these crooks anything. To add insult to injury, thanks to Tropical Storm Fay, my entire lawn is now underwater, and it will all be dead.

After relentless marketing calls from Tru-Green I gave in and order the season package of 5 lawn treatments. I understand the spring in Northern Illinois was a bit dicey, and realize the first application was late-no prblem. Not once this season has our yard looked green or been weed free. In June we called to suggest that the next application be applied because we had weeds and the lawn looked anemic. We did get a visit, but the only action was to say give it time and that we should consider more services.
A call in July revealed that we had opted out of the fifth treament (funny they hadn't opted out of cashing the check that included all five treatments). We water every morning for 15 minutes as suggested- when will the lawn green? To say the least we will NEVER use Tru Green again. This was our second go around in the past six years. There has been no change with Tru Green, but over the years we have done our homework on lawn care-we're going it alone in 09.

I have been using the TruGreen lawn service for two years now. When I hired them in the spring of 2007, my lawn, which is 40,000 square feet, was as lush and perfect as a PGA course. Also, I have a sprinkler system which fully waters the lawn should drought conditions occur, and with the nice rain throughout this past summer, that has not been an issue.
Right now, my lawn looks like an amature has taken care of it. Overrun with weeds and brown spot ( cinch bugs and multiple weeds ). The weeds, when I complained was told nothing can be done in the middle of summer and will be addressed NEXT year, before they become active. The bugs they say happens. I have read many of the others posts and agree with virtually everyone. The way they make their cash is simple....apply about 1/10th of what they really should be applying and thus, starving our lawns for what they need. Good bye TruGreen, gone for good.

I have a contract with the above for Lawn service. I have been a customer for a few years. I was advised to have my lawn aerated and over seeded. I agreed to this, the technician came 9/4/8 at 9am and was gone by 9.18am. In this time he supposedly aerated 2000 sq ft of lawn and over seeded. The bill was $200.00 with a $75.00 charge for the seed. The invoice claimed that 4 lbs was used.
I called three times to get information on this and on the third attempt was told Stewart would call back. He did and was quite rude and totally indifferent to my questions. I believe this company requires some investigation into their business practices and the quality of their employees. Trugreen came to my home well over a year ago and promised to get rid of all the weeds and make my lawn look great. (It already looked good.) I decided to change services and go with them. Then in April of this year I noticed a small brown spot in the front of my yard and in the back. I thought I just needed to water more. In May I notice two more spots. The first week of June I left for a trip and did not return until the last day of July. When I saw my yard I couldn't believe it. Huge brown patches. My neighbor came over and told me it was bug damage and that he noticed it in early June.
I called TRUGREEN and cancel my service and refused to pay the last statement. A man who owns a sod company came out to look at the damage and said he couldn't believe that I had a company taking care of my lawn. That they should have to pay for the damage to my lawn. He said it was full of weeds and overrun by bugs. I called TRUGREEN and the representive told me it was my fault that the yard looked like it did because I wasn't calling them every two weeks to let them know there was a problem. The manager Wayne called and left a message that they are not responsible for bug damage and they were not a replacement company and would not be paying to repair my lawn.
If they are not responsible for bug damage then what was I paying them for. I thought I was paying them to take care of my lawn and watch for problem and treat those problems as needed. If I knew about lawns and how to treat and take care of them I would do it myself. I am getting complaints from my neighborhood and have 30 days to repair the appearance of my lawn before I am fined from the Home Owners Assoc. TRUGREEN should change their name to TRUBROWN.

We received a bill from TruGreen in the amount of $235.00 for services provided. We called the number located on the invoice and pay the bill over the phone. The next day we get a call saying...we haven't received payment for your invoice. We explain that we paid it yesterday but they do not see any information detailing this. So we assume the Customer Service Representative didn't take our information down correctly the day before. So we again gave our information.
The following day I see two charges on my account, both in the amount of $235.00. Well even though this mistake was on them, it will take them 6-8 weeks to refund MY money. After several attempts to straighten this out with customer service it was escalated to corporate. (The local customer service department is extremely rude and insensitive) The corporate office tells me, no problem, you should see you refund in 5 days.
After 5 days I still did not see my refund so I call back. The woman now says, well we have a check we will be sending to you. Well today is August 8th and I still am out the $235.00, I am starting to believe I will never get this money back.
Although $235.00 may not seem like a lot to most people, it is to my family. We recently purchased a home, have a baby, and are living paycheck to paycheck to pay our bills. Our accoount would have been overdrawn if I hadn't transferred from our savings to cover it. I have spent many lunch hours trying to get my money and I am lost as to what to do next.

I was approached by a representative of Trugreen Lawn Care Services as my husband and I were planting hedges in our yard. The Sales Rep was very friendly and professional. He made the offer seem to good to be true. He was so good that I agreed to have the services performed. He told me an agent from the company would call to confirm shortly. About five minutes later the agent called and by that time I realized that I made the decision to quick. I relaid this to the agent and he said he would have the rep come back to my home and speak to me. He was right down the street when his company called so he came back shortly and knocked on the door. He asked what happened and I told him that I made the decision without thinking.
I told him it was too soon to have the work done as we were going to have the some roots uprooted from the lawn and I wanted to do that procedure first for financial reasons as well as practical reasons. He agreed and propositioned me to have a rep call within two weeks to see if I was ready if, they would call back at an extended date when I was ready. He told me that I could extend the dates as long as it took for me to be ready to start the services. I agreed to this and the company rep called me again to confirm. I told him the rep said someone would contact me within 2 weeks to see if I was ready and I would let them know at that time. Well on the first call my bank information was given before I decided not to have the services performed. I did not think about this when the rep called the second time to confirm that someone would call me within 2 weeks. Well, exactly 2 days after our conversation Trugreen came to my home and applied the first treatment without my knowledge.
When my husband and I got home their sign was on the lawn and an invoice was attatched to the doorknob. I was furious! They did not even wait one week, not to mention the two weeks that we discussed! Also someone was to ask me if I was ready to start services not just start on their own terms. The very next day I emailed the company to complain and asked that no further services be done to my lawn. About one week later another sign was on my lawn with another invoice for $40.00 attached to the door. This time I phoned the company and asked why and how could this happen after the terms that I discussed with their representative and after the email sent to them. I was told that they would have to pull the phone conversation and get back to me.
Two days passed and nothing! I called again madder than ever. I was told the same thing but was promised that she would call me back. She called back and verfied the two conversations that I had with their rep but told me that at the end of the second conversation that the rep stated that services would start in 2 weeks. Even if he did say this, I expressed to him that someone is supposed to call me in two weeks to see if I am ready to start services and If I was not, I could extend the dates until I was ready. No one ever called me to ask anything!! This company is making a killing misleading and twisting the words of potential customers.
About week later my bank account was debited $40.00 for services that I never agreed to or asked for. Something has to be done to stop the practices that this company uses to trap people into to phony services that were not asked for or agreed to. WHAT TRICKERY! I WILL NOT EVER HAVE THIS COMPANY DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I DO NOT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH ANYONE THAT USES THESE IMMORAL PRACTICES TO RECEIVE BUSINESS. I was treated [bad] by the representatives when I called to complain and they insisted they would only refund the first amount but, not the second because after I told their rep someone is supposed to contact me first in two weeks, he stated that services will start within 2 weeks. How Bogus can one get?
This company should be forced to shut down! I was inconvenienced by the company debiting $40.00 so far, from my bank accout. In addition, I went into overdraft because I was not expecting this to happen. I believe they plan on making another deduction for the second treatment that took place without my permission

The TruGreen lawn care is a rip off company. The bill me $101.00 for 44lb of grub control and $69.00 for 44lb of fertilizer. I was watching him to the application and he walked through my lawn with hand held spreader which doesnt hold more that 5lb wait and he was done in 3 minutes. He didnt know I was watching him the whole time from inside of the house.
When I asked him about what he put down? He said 44lb of grub control and 44lb fertilizer. Then I told him I was watching him from inside the house and you went around once and it took you 3 minutes, how could have put 88lb of grub control and fertilizer, hes response was, oh, grub control and fertilizer was mixed. Then I said even what you say is true, your hand held spreader doesnt even hold more that 5lb wait and he was adamant that he did put down 44lb.
They just ripping off customers. I like to see this company to be fully investigated and pay for their fraudulent business practice. So as of 07/25/08 I canceled my lawn care with them.

I signed up with TruGreen for lawn & shrubbery treatment with the understanding - in writing - that the service could be canceled at anytime. I subsequently canceled the service before any treatment or service was performed. Their operator showed up twice to treat my lawn after the cancelation and each time I sent him away. I spoke with Wendy & Ms. Hughes no less than three times and sent emails as well, but they were very insistent that I not cancel (not that I couldn't, just that they did not want me to).
A few weeks later I received an invoice for approximately $160.00 for services rendered which was false. I again spoke with Ms. Hughes and she agreed to issue a credit for the full amount. Then, today 7/23/08 I received a phone call from TruGreen stating that I owe them the $160.00. At this point they are harassing me for something that I don't owe and I invited them to take me court, or I would take them to court, since I now believe that they are perpetrating a scam.
Mental stress only - I would not dare allow them to access my lawn or property now!

We have used TruGreen for about 2 years. Everything looked okay until this summer when I arrived home and it looked like someone had painted my yard blue. I noticed their sign in the yard and their bill in my mailbox. The tech said my yard was looking great. He said he treated the yard with a GRANULAR fertilizer, which was not the case. I called two days later because my grass was turning yellow and brittle. I was told this was suppost to happen and my grass would recover.
A manager came by and left a note saying that this was a side affect of weed control. Two days later, another treatment was applied to spots they missed the first time. Since we are in a drought, I can't water my yard. It has been 3 weeks and my yard looks terrible. It was a very healthy green and lush lawn. Now I can't even enjoy sitting on my front porch. I will cancel any further treatments as I have never signed a contract or anything. I am extremely disappointed and would not recommend this company to anyone.

I had used TruGreen for the past couple of years with unsatisfactory service, as many time they said they had done the work, and had not. I cancelled their service. But this year after receiving numerous calls and them agreeing to reduce the cost of the first serivce I agreed to try their service, only paying after the job had been done satisfactorly. On June 23, 2008 their service man (Jason Coubett) rang the doorbell, giving me the invoice, saying that he had gone to meet another technician and had forgotten to give me the invoice. I don't know how he could have forgotten, as he was not here before.
After 2 weeks waiting to see if anything was going to happen (which I knew it couldn't) I called the local office to state what had happened. The office said they would send the service tech out to do another application and he would be out Monday July 14th. After thinking about it, I called the office on July 9th to tell them to cancel the service call, as I was going to cancel their service that I wasn't going to have to play their games. The girl I talked with said that I may receive a call from a supervisor the next day, which I didn't.
On July 14th, their was a knock on the door. Jason was here to find out what the problem was. I told him, and also told him that I had cancelled the service and not to do anything. He tried to say that he had serviced the lawn on June 23rd and had just forgotten to give me the invoice. I told him I had watched the lawn and NOTHING had died, and there was alot of weeds in my lawn. He left without doing anything. Then today July 16th, I received a bill from the local office.

"Neighbors on both sides have beautiful lawns. There is no reason ours is the only one suffering, except that ours is the only one receiving treatment and "care" from TruGreen. Friends and neighbors can attest to the former beauty of this lawn. Unless you immediately re-sod the permanently damaged areas at your expense and you have an viable plan to enable this lawn to thrive and flourish in the future, we will have no recourse than to cancel your service, notify Consumer Affairs, and file for damages. Your prompt response will be appreciated."
July 16, 2008: Mr. R. came out today to look at the lawn; he refused to read our copy of the letter (he had not received his)and he contended that the only problem was the drought; that there were no cinch bugs or any other bugs or pests or weeds; that our sprinklers were 'probably' not working; he said there was nothing TruGreen could or would do. That does not explain why yards on each side of us do not have this problem and they are in "drought" too. He said he would refund our last treatment cost and cancel the contract. He was very rude, made no effort to try to work out a solution to the problem; TruGreen had no problem, it was our problem, not theirs. The large places where the sod is gone is now filling in with weeds.
Loss of large portions of the front and side yards. We are on a corner and have a large yard. Insulting behavior from the TruGreen "dedicated route manager" Mike R. We wish we had seen your website before we signed up with them. We plan to engage another company and when we decide, we will certainly check for complaints first. Thank you.

We decided not to use this year and our yard looks the worse it ever has with 5 different noxious weeds like Thistle, etc. Weeds that we never had in our yard. In September of 07 after the last lawn treatment I canceled my lawn service as I was moving to a new home. Months after moving I received a call at 5:00 P.M. from a rep. looking to sign me up for service on my lawn. I was in my new home and was shocked when over the phone he quoted me a price without even seeing my yard. I questioned this and the fact that the quote was 40 dollars more than what I had payed for my former residence of twice as much square footage... he nocked off this increase letting me set the rate based on my former contract.
I was satisfied and when they called back to O.K. the service for my new home I agreed...I never received any paperwork or contract/correspondence.
In the spring of 08 they never treated my lawn and the window for first application was running out. I happened to drive by my old residence and saw that it had ben treated. When I called to discuss the problem the rep told me that the contract I agreed to was for my former address... this to me was ridiculous considering 1. I did not live there and 2. was standing in my new home when the rep called to sell me lawn service, and I had discussed the differences between the two yards with him.... I think this gimmick is so preposterous... the scam is typical truegreen business behavior.
They called to get me back on a plan with old information and they called at dinner time, when like most families I am trying to get dinner and kids ready for another day. They are aware of the nickel and dime strategy... I never returned mailers... why call? It is harassment. I had used truegreen for years, became familiar with there tactics for further treatments... my favorite is the opener... did you see the news that lime disease is going to be on the rise in your area we can protect you and your kids against ticks with a treatment of $125... PLEASE how many moms fell for that one. This business plan of treating and billing later is not right.

I had TruGreen for 6 months and had ZERO results. I talked with the store manager and was told that because we were in a drought that there was little we could do and that I need to give them more time. I told him that I wanted to cancel my service.
A few months went by and a service rep rang the door bell and started in with his pitch. I told him of our past experience. He told me that if I gave them another shoot they could fix my yard in a year. I agreed and started back with them. I had the regular 8 application that everyone is suppose to get.
TruGreen product is so bad that, I had to call them out at least two times between my regular applications to kill the weeds in my yard. They came to my home at least 16 times in 6 months just to kill weeds. I contacted the store manger again and told him my store. I explained to him that I had 5 months left before my year was up. He asked me to work with him and gave me his cell phone number. Several service calls later and more and more phone calls to the store manager, still zero results.
Two weeks before my year was up the store manager and another guy showed up to reseed my yard (at TruGreen expense.) I told them if I saw some improvement in the yard that I would continue to use TruGreen. Zero results. I call the store manager and asked for his boss, the manger told me to call cooperate. I final tracked down his boss and explained the whole thing to him and sent him pictures of what had happened over the year. He sent a guy down from Atlanta to see my yard and talk to me.
The bottom line from the new guy was we didnt kill your lawn, but I dont know what did.? So the south East manger call me and told me my good news, they would not re-sod my yard; they didnt know how to help me. He did offer me my money back and told me that they did not want to do business with me anymore. After some arguing back and forth I was told that the branch manger would contact me and bring me a check.
Two weeks later and several phones to the branch manger I get a voice mail that says it will take 3 to 4 weeks, and be mailed to me. Do not use this company; you are better off doing it yourself. Find a good looking lawn in around you and make friends with them.

We questioned whether this should be done in this type of weather since we are in drought conditions but the technician said it did not matter. Our lawn was a lush green the day of the application he performed. He even noted that on his data sheet.
Two days later our front lawn started drying up and turning brown. I contacted Tru Green and they sent a rep over to inspect while we were not home. He called and said we needed to cut the lawn twice and apply lots of water. We have been cutting the lawn for a month, spent an additional $100 on watering and even manually thatched the lawn. A few spots are coming back but it has been a month plus and we fear our lawn is done for the year.
Our Lawn has herbicide burn per the commercial tech that was sent out the second time. The first tech said the condition would be fine after lots of water and cutting. Since the lawn started turning white/brown/yellow and stayed that way. I am waiting for a refund of a prepayment we made for the entire year. They said they can't refund until the tech comes out to check it again however when you sign a contract they state you can cancel anytime. They should re-name their company TRU-BROWN. We now have a yard full of weeds. We have complained many times and even had the supervisor come out and look at our lawn. We stopped their service this year, 2008. We had a representative from the company call and when I spoke with him I was promised that he would give us great service.
The day he came to treat our yard was after a storm. This was on February 27, 2008. A large box was in the yard, he did not move this box, just treated around the box. I called on February 29, 2008 and complained. They said they would send someone out. When a service tech came to the house on March 3, 2008, my husband ran him out of the yard. Because this was NOT the first time, they have not given us complete service my husband did not want them in our yard. We feel we have given them enough times to get it right.
Our neighbors watched them fill out paper work and never treated the yard. I also reported this to the company and they stated that this was untrue, their service people do not do that. Why would my neighbor lie? They were going to use their services until they saw how they did us. Today, July 1, 2008, I spoke with Jim Shridder and told him the services were not rendered to our satisfaction he refused to drop the bill of $39.00 and said because we would not allow them back in our yard we had complete service and must pay the bill.
We have paid for dishonest and incomplete service for approximately 5 years and now they want us to pay for another unsatisfactory service. I would like for everyone to know how this company handles their customers and therefore save someone else from the loss of money for services that are dishonest and in complete. Please check into this dishonest service. Thank you.

The phone representative has inquired as to why and I replied that the service was much more expensive than last year and I had already found a new lawn care company. She then replied Well, I don't have your records from last year so I can only take your word on that. One of our supervisors may want to contact you to discuss it. I replied, He can call if he wants, but I already made the change.
I heard nothing from anyone, as I had anticipated. In the meantime, my ne service provider treated the lawn. Aa few days later TruGreen treated my lawn and left me an invioce. I told them that they were mistaken and 1) I will not pay the bill and 2) I wanted something to clearly indicate that I had cancelled the service (at this time I got a cancellation number).
The delinquency notice continue to come at a rate of one per week and, despite several calls to get them to stop, they just keep coming. My concern is that they may send this to collections and it will negatively impact my credit.
None at this time except for the waste of time I have expended over this issue. I do fear that my credit will likely reflect this tranaction in the near future.

Here in MS it is hot in the summer and I didn't want to put my dog in his pen if I didn't have to. The schedule would let me know when they were coming so I could put the dog up. So going by the schedule they sent me they were to come last tuesday and they didn't so I called them to see why the application wasn't done and that my dog was put up for them to spray.
The first girl told me that my account was cancelled. I told her that I was never notified by letter or a phone call but she didn't seem to care. I was pretty upset by then and called back to see what is going on and I got another girl who I thought was helping but I guess she did nothing after our long conversation and her appoligy for the mistakes. Within 5 days my bright green lawn was yellow and dead and still has not come back, now it is nothing but weeds that are 5 feet plus tall. When I called them about my lawn they said it was poor watering which was not the case and I proved it to them by showing them how my yard gets watered.
In July of 2007 Rick one of the Managers called me to let me know that the mixture they had used on my lawn and about 100 others in my area had too high of an amount of Nitrogen and that is why my yard died, funny part is, only a small patch in my front was dead so that goes to show how great a job they did spraying!
So now comes August 2007 and after all the revive treatments and checking on my lawn it only got worse. They told me they would re-sod my entire back yard again. Moving forward it is June 2008 and I have yet to hear back from them or get my messages returned so they can fix my yard. The best part of this is when they first came to my door I asked if fertilizing a month old lawn was safe and they advised me YES but in reality it is not good to do until the roots start to grow. My $7000 landscape job became junk and I was so embarassed I could not even have parties at my house because my yard was so ugly.

I have had a long-standing contract with TruGreen, both lawn and shrub divisions, for probably 20 years. It is in their computer that no services are to be done in my backyard without calling my pool specialist first. She then comes and covers my koi pond before anything is sprayed. At least that's the plan. Andy Tozier confirmed the fact that this note IS in my file. On May 12, TruGreen came and sprayed my backyard shrubs and trees without calling the pond specialist. Therefore the pond was uncovered, spraying was unsupervised and my written request was ignored.
By May 14 all of my koi, about 30, were dead. Not only were they dead, but their gills were chemically eaten away, as were their scales and tails. This was quite obviously not disease. It was a chemical agent that simply ate away at them. If this had been an accident I would swallow the expense and make other plans for treating my shrubs. But this was no accident , it was simple negligence on the company's part. Not only were the fish dead but all of the pond lilies were dead. The plants and fish have a symbiotic relationsip, if the fish die, the plants will die, with or without the spray. Andy Tozier finally came to my house to inspect the pond. His first reaction was that his guy wouldn't spray anywhere near the pond and his employee swore that he didn't.
Nevertheless the yellow signs that they leave on the property were around the pond AND in a bush that grows down into the pond. (yes, I took pictures) This should not even be an issue because my pond specialist was never called. I was out of town or I would have been there to cover the pond - if called. I find the cost-saving measure of mailing little green cards to customers to be very inaccurate. They tell you ABOUT when they will be on your prooerty. That's simply not good enough in cases like mine. I need at LEAST the day.
The value of my fish is immeasurable. I have had them for years and years. They even make it through our tough Northeast winters in the pond. I have never brought them in - if properly cared for they are fine. And my fish ARE properly cared for. My fish specialist and pond specialist are here 2 or 3 times a month to check everything. My fish were preparing to have their babies. People come from miles around to enjoy my pond. No exaggeration.
This company has killed a large part of our leisure time and spot. I have a quote of $1550.00 to clean up and rinse out everything to get the poison out of the pond. It will not put my godchildren's favorite pets back in the pond. There is a palpable gloom over my backyard. Andy asked me why the filters weren't going when he was here to inspect. I had to remind him that electricity costs money and I'm not running a filter for acid-water and dead fish. I showed him the bin where we put the fish that were trying to live. He said, but you still have a couple plants alive. Anyone who has taken a science course knows that fish will always die before the plants! The plants are dead now, so maybe he is satisfied.
My koi were 12 and 14 inches long and worth thousands of dollars. I am not asking for a replacement of koi that size. But I am requesting reimbursement for much smaller koi. What I am requesting is minimal I think. I want payment for the cleaning and scrubbing of the rocks, stones, filters, falls etc. and a new supply of plants and fish.

When I moved to Oklahoma that is another story, I called them to come out and do their analysis on my new lawn and they did and talked to me. I told the rep I would think about it and let them know. They called my house within a couple of days and my ex answered and told them point blank no one was to come out to do anything with out calling and talking to me first. They recorded this, however did not listen to well. They came out and I immediately called, they apoligized and said it was free and taken care of and wont happen again. Low and behold it did and I called again and told them I never gave them permission and did not ever want their service, they said they made note of it and put in the computer and again apologized.
Well we know where this is going on the 3rd visit I finally called and demanded the reginonal manager or district manager because I was still receiving a bill for the previous treatments which I never authorized for them to do.Finally I got someone on the phone and they said they would pull my telephone conversation to prove that I agreed to it, I told them to please do so and they did and oh my gosh my ex told them like I stated above no one is allowed to do anything at all and to call me. We all listened to it and they again apologized for the inconvenience they called but still wanted me to pay for the treatments they did.
Well that did not fly because I then wrote a letter to BBB and notified my local news station and finally it did get cleared up, but it took a lot of time when in fact they should listen to the customers. I had to laugh when they did play the whole recording back on the phone to me of how stupied they really are. And to the other writer above who works for them why don't they tell the customers to send in a certified letter for cancellation when the customers are calling to cancel, they never mention that, it is not our job to know your jobs. Make the customer aware of this we can't read your minds. So I am laughing out loud to you for being dumb and not being up front to us customers, the ones who pay your wages and for your house you live in or "tailor" it sounds like.

After owning my home over forty years, about two years ago, in response to their marketing flyer, I asked TruGreen for a lawn anaylysis. Services began with fertilizer. Over the next two years I received marketing calls at all hours at least three or four times per week. Grub treatments, insecticide applications, winterizing sprays, lime and aereation. Shrub fertilization and bug treatments, I agreed to literally every service to the cost of several hundred dollars each year. Last fall we noticed that as we tried to rake leaves huge tracts of dead grass were coming loose. I tried blowing the leaves but this revealed even more bare earth. My front lawn appeared to have been all but destroyed.
I called to cancel services and was soon deluged with more calls from TruGreen offering deals and reduced rates. I again agreed to minimal treatments and the serviceman was out the next week spraying bushes. As I began spring cleanup I found that the lawn is even worse so I cancelled their services again telling them that any true lawn professional ought to have taken one look at this and realized there is a serious problem. They sent out a supervisor who told me the problem was snow-mold and the lawn needed to be totally removed and reseeded. I openly told their operator that it is my opinion that a professional should have told me what needed to be done two years ago not simply apply chemicals every week that eventually burned or choked out my lawn. The line of demarcation between healthy grass and dead or dying grass is clearly between my neighbor's lawns and mine. It could not be more obvious.
It appears that my lawn needs to be completely replaced. I have paid over a thousand dollars and my lawn is ruined.

I have read this section for years as an interested party. I find it is necessary to add my comments due to the recent uptick in apparent Trugreen employees trying to mislead people. First, people do not know that leisure lawn and barefoot are part of trugreen. The only people who know this are people who work in lawncare like you. In fact, here in the atlanta area, the leisure lawn employees actually call the lists of cancelled trugreen customers and badmouth trugreen just to get their business. Who cares if the sales person gets agitated? [Who] only requests one estimate? Perhaps the reason the trugreen sales rep didn't get the business is because the customer realized that they didn't know what they were talking about! Price is rarely the determining factor if you have demonstrated quality. Furthermore, [the] analogy about plumbers is nonsense. Plumbers don't send everyone twenty coupons a month begging them to call for a free estimate. In fact, it is trugreen's constant coupon mailers that cause customers to call other lawn companies, often wasting their time!
I too worked for trugreen for almost ten years and in more than 3 branches. While some of them weren't so bad, most of them were. And one thing was for sure, when the chips were down the customer would get screwed. What you say about proper expectations is true, but it is the sales persons responsibility to set them. The customer should be presumed ignorant and educated, not manipulated. The sales people at trugreen rarely even explain the service itself, let alone set proper expectations! This is due largely to lack of knowledge, lack of concern and the pressure to sell everyone lawn care.
All in all purchasing lawn service from trugreen is a crapshoot. If you are lucky, it will work out ok. However, more often you will be unhappy. Either way, there are tons of smaller companies that not only do better work, but they typically cost less per year due to them not coming out all the time and constantly selling you unneeded extra treatments.

We called and complained and again, they did the back as well the next time. We then called and canceled service, well, they came again, and again, and again! It was insane! We kept calling to cancel, and they would NOT STOP COMING AND BILLING US!
My wife caught the guy coming to spray and ran out and told him we had canceled service four treatments ago, AND WE WERE BILLED FOR THAT! Then they threatened to send us to collection if we didn't pay up. I finally told them I was filing a restraining order to prevent them from coming, well, thankfully that did the trick, although we did pay for the unrequested service. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I have worked for Trugreen for almost 10 years. I have worked in three different Branches in this country. One in Rockford, IL, one in Richmond, VA, and now here in Sterling, VA. I was very upset to see the number of complaints about Trugreen. A lot of times those complaints are unwarrented due to the fact that their expectations were probably way above standards. For instance, the lady that said we killed her whole lawn...At the end of her complaint she talked about it being all dirt. Well, we got rid of all the weeds and that's what was left...Minimal grass. We did our job! ;o) She just needed to finish with seeding and fill in the grass.
I love this company and every branch I've worked in so far has been a very customer oriented. We do free service calls if there is a concern and follow up with what is necessary to address the concern. (Unless it is something we can't help with.)
All in all, we have a service that works wonderfully if instructions are followed properly. ( watering, mowing higher) The whole thing that causes most of the complaints are expectations. Plus, when people purchase something with us, it is not something tangible. They have to rely on mother nature and their own work with us to see results. Half the time when some one thinks we've burned their lawn it is just summer stress. When it gets above 85 degrees consistantly nothing grows very well. So the lawn goes dormant. Hence the brown dead looking areas. Don't worry it will come back when temps cool down! Watering helps, too!
I am in the sales department and do set those proper expectations with each new customer. I will do what it takes to keep a customer! My colleges would say the same. Thank you and don't believe everything you hear!

I had used TruGreen Chemlawn for several years. The service was economical and good at first but became progressively worse over the last few years. I had asked to be notified a couple of days in advance of the application so that I could mow the lawn before they arrived for each application. This rarely happened. This past year my lawn looked as if I did not have a lawn service. In the fall, when my last application for the year was made, the service rep actually placed the chemicals on top of leaves in the yard (no phone call was made to let me know they were coming). When I called to let them know about this problem, they sent the service person back out after I removed the leaves but it was handled as if it was not a big issue.
The service was terrible and it appeared that all they were interested in was calling me in the evening and trying to sell me additional services. After the leaf incident, I cancelled the service. At that point I began to receive phone calls and mail (from their vice president) begging for my business. The last phone call I received, I explained that the reasons I cancelled the service were because of the phone calls, the poor service and the fact that my lawn looked terrible. The salesperson thought that by giving me a free application that it would make me forget about all the problems. This young person became a little pushy, at which time the phone conversation was ended.
TruGreen needs to rethink their position in running their business by providing the service they claim to provide and then about selling more services. My experience with TruGreen has not been a good one (very unprofessional) and I would never recommend their service to anyone.

I work for TruGreen. All these complaints i'm reading here are just hilarious to me. See, here is the thing. You all think that you have to sign a written contract with them to have their services. By law all you have to do is agree over the phone, which we Audio Record. That is your agreement. Therefore, when we keep coming, it is because your verbal agreement carries over until you send in a Certified Letter stating to stop your service.
During the winter you will get a phone call or two confirming your services for the following season and if you do not return the call, they will keep the service open. If you call and say I want to cancel that's not good enough. You need to first pay off your balance before you can cancel your service, it's stated in the Massachusetts State Law. Also, haha, I find this part extremely hilarious.. TruGreen has over 5 million customers nationwide. They have established themselves as almost 50% of LawnCare Service for the entire United States. So before you go complaining about something, check the laws and make sure you have a slight clue you know what your talking about.

They said they would come in a week to do the lawn. They finally showed up about 4 weeks later, I guess, because a card was left on the door indicating they gave the trees a treatment. This was frustrating because I had told them on the phone my main interest was the lawn. I called again and complained that the season is going to be over by the time they treat the lawn and don't bother to come anymore. About a week or more passed and a truck showed up for about five minutes, no one got out and then left. He then said we'll have to do something about this. He pulled up a piece of sod and saw a grub and immediately said you've got grubs, see that? Trugreen was servicing my lawn. Overall the results werent good or bad. I paid my bill in advance and was supposed to get a certain number of visits. A couple of visits were missed so I had a credit with them that I was told I could use toward next year. At the beginning of the year I got billed for their service. I called to ask why and was told that I had used my balance for a treatment in the fall. I told them no treatment was done and asked what they were claiming was done. They told me they did not recognise the code and weren't sure what it was and that someone would call me back.
Weeks went by and I called again. The person told me I had to pay for the treatment because I had used my balance. They then told me I had authorized a service in the fall that I had not authorized. They continued to make up stories about me approving services and them doing services when neither happened. They claimed that they recorded their sales calls but could not produce the recording. I cancelled the service over this. I later spoke to one of their sales people who called to try to restart my service.
This person told me that the company routinely adds services to peoples accounts at the end of the year to hit their quotas. He told me that they did this to hundreds of people and that their manager had been fired for it. It is unbelievable that these people are still in business.

They always call during the summer before the service application but not before the primary application. I don't feel I should pay the $35.06 fee. They should void it and learn not to be sleazy. I understand the statement states that service continues year after year but a simple call to the customer will allow a true confirmation of the acceptance. This is no contractual agreement.

We were unhappy with the way the lawn looked at the end of season (two years ago 2005). The underside of the grass was yellow and the blades were sparse. The technician kept telling me we didn't need grub treatment although there were holes in certain areas that looked as though we had perforated the lawn and I had fought Japanese beetles on my roses. He kept insisting it was dog urine that was killing the area, not grubs. Every time they came out we had to keep our windows shut for hours due to the chemical smell.
We cancelled the service in the fall - or so we thought. They continue to call every two weeks with hearty telemarketers telling me how they're ready to start the new treatment right away and they always express disbelief when I state that we cancelled the service. We had a very lush lawn of St. Augustine grass and hired Truegreen as a preventative measure to protect our investment. They promised to take care of all weeds, and fungus and cinch worms.
We specifically stated that we wanted treatment for all weeds, fungus and any insects, grubs or worms. The salesman said “no problem”. Our yard steadily deteriorated that spring and summer to the point that we have maybe 1/10 of the grass left. We sodded our entire property less than 1-1/2 years ago. Weeds, ants and cinch were/are prolific in our yard.
One day last summer Truegreen contacted us to treat the yard for these invaders specifically. This infuriated me because that is exactly why we hired them. They tried twisting arms and legs to get me to buy their treatment for just under $300. I declined because I worked on my lawn (front to back) 3-5 days a week, and I had seen nothing unusual...except a couple dead grubs on my driveway. They sent a tech out to take care of it, and a few days later, I saw about 10-15 fire ant hills along my driveway, from the front of my house to the back of the building...just on the side where the driveway is. My next door neighbor did not have the problem. I was not at home when they did the treatment, but, I know that I was sabotaged.
I have been using Amdro, an effective fire ant bait, to eliminate the problem. However, it will take time. There is no legal recourse since there is no witness. I just wanted to vent.

If you want to know the truth about TruGreen, it's worse than you thought. The reason why so many yards get ghosted or end up half treated is because the technician has to meet a quota. He cannot return to the branch office until that quota has been met which is why larger more expensive yards are usually treated better over smaller ones or so called under-charged ones. Also, this causes sales reps to often over-charge customers which is an encouraged business by managers during training for some branches.
TruGreen employees are severely abused and mistreated so next time you get angry call the manager or corporate to take out your frustration. Also, ask for a price list and measure your own yard before purchasing the service. When you end your service ask for confirmation in writing, because contracts do not exist for TruGreen and this in not safe for the consumer. Also send a certified letter stating the termination date. Always ask for a prenote, even if you do not have a dog or a gate. This way you will know which day the service will occur and you can be alert to this when you cancel the service. You can get almost anything if you refuse to schedule the service until your needs are met.

Tried to call the ompany but they are closed on the weekend and you can not leave a msg. I am glad I learned about them early on. I hired them because I wanted to fiddle with my lawn less - not spend more time complaining about what they are not doing.

My first complaint is that I received unsolicited service calls from TruGreen in the dead of winter! I know nothing about lawn service but I spoke to the tech and said that the lawn was harder than asphalt, it's 20 degrees, what could this possibly do for my lawn. I was told that these applications would be effective and that I needed them. Too busy to research the effectivness of winter lawn applications, I just let them do it. Spring and early summer brought with it a beautiful, lush even lawn.
I received no service calls until mid-July. I kept getting messages that they would be out to make an application, but saw no one for weeks. The application was finally made and within days my lawn looked like it had never been attended to. Crab grass popped up everywhere and now!!... brown spots, beautiful green grass is dry dead hay and the most interesting part about the damage is that it seems to be going in straight lines as if something was applied to kill it! there are green strips next to dry strips and curves where a spreader seemed to turn and miss some areas. I called to cancel but was persuaded to hold off until Gary - the field manager called me. Gary never called.
In looking for a new lawn service on line I inadvertantly gave my contact information to, of all places, TruGreen. I got a call within a day. Funny how they call you when they think you're a new customer. I explained my problem to the caller who spoke to me as if I were an empty-headed housewife, punctuating his sentences with lots of honey's. He told me it was due to the excessive heat and that he'd been answering service calls all day with the same problem. Just hang on and if it doesn't look better by September, give us a call and we'll come out and give you a service call. I said ok, knowing that the excessive heat had just settled in our area only 2 days before. We hadn't been over 85 all season. But within the past two days, my once beautiful lawn appears to have been ravaged. I want to weep when I look out of the window.
I called to say I would not be paying my bill until my lawn looked better. I was told my account had been cancelled. I told them I was asked to hold off until Gary called and that Gary never called. I was told that Gary would call. I'm not stayin' up nights. I'm now left with what looks like and is dead grass. It looks like it all has to be resodded or replanted in some large areas. I'm not paying my balance. I'm sure this will be a huge mess with lots of threatening phone calls ~ but I've had it with TruGreen.

Over the course of the treatments, whenever I was home, the technicians, though always nice, had conflicting stories. Some said they could spray the fruit trees if we ate the fruit, some said not. So some of the techs were spraying the fruit trees and some were not. This was the whole original reason that I called them in the first place! We have a tree in our back yard that is dying from some type of bore insect that eats away at the tree from the inside. Nobody from Trugreen during their inspections and treatments ever said anything about it. All of our receipts said that everything looks great!
My husband talked at great lenghts with different people to no avail. One of the people from Trugreen even suggested the techs may have been prewriting the comments before they even show up to the house and inspect the trees and shrubs! My husband also had a question on another tree that the techs were unable to answer, he was promised that a horticulturist would be out to discuss it with him and inspect. Someone did call him, but never came out to look at the tree. I am totally fed up with them, yet they keep coming and billing even though I am dissatisfied.

What I thought had been damage because of lack of rain and the failure of my irrigation system turned out to be a deterioating condition from chinch bug infestation. When I questioned the technician he said, Sir what you got is chinch bugs and the only way it is going to come back is that you resod the area. Isn't that nice to discover after the damage has been done when it should have been obvious to them that there was a problem.
I made repeated calls (3 or 4) to the local office to have a manager contact me and I was given the name of Kyle would call. He never did and so before I would allow them to come and treat again, I called and said not to treat the yard until such time as I spoke with Kyle. They said they would pass along my message but still I heard nothing. Finally after speaking with the corporate customer service, I was referred back to the local office and when I told the lady who answered what my complaint was and that I still had not received a call, she said the account was suspended and Kyle had been given the message. We did leave a message sometime in February to cancel our service, however when we did not receive a confirmation phone call we requested a cancellation of our service online on 30 March 2006. Our main reason for canceling the service is the lack of improvement (our neighbor's lawn looks better and they receive no service at all).
Since we had the confirmation number above canceling our service, and it was the time to fertilize, we fertilized the back yard only (due to pets). At that point I asked to speak to Mr. Fitzgbbon. Furthermore they would not take any responsibility for my now destroyed lawn. The home was owned by a relative of famed horticulturist, Jens Jensen and also a Master Gardener. They visited and told my wife they could take care of servicing the property thinking that we were requesting "new service". They commented on how bad the landscape had looked without knowing that they were the company servicing it.
When I called the office to coplain, I was assured that a more qualified representative would be visiting. At the conclusion of the visit, a slate of additional services were required above and beyond what typically would be done due to the demise of the landscape. I used Trugreen's lawn care services back in 2000 to apply chemicals to my lawn. I authorized Truegreen to make a couple of applications and I paid for them back in 2000. Now almost 6 years later Trugreen started harassment campaign against me, claiming that back in September of 2000 they provided additional services to my lawn. If those services were in fact provided, they were provided without my knowledge or authorization. Trugreen is seeking $108.07 for their "services" and claiming that they will charge me additional $20 a month "Late Payment Fee" until the payment is collected and looks like now it's up to $128.07. Even though I'm aware that some companies are using some shady techniques to extort money from their customers, trying to do so 5 12 years later is even more troubling.

This way you will know which day the service will occur and you can be alert to this when you cancle the service. You can get almost anything if you refuse to schedule the service until your needs are met.

I used to work TruGreen/Chemlawn. I was working for another nationwide lawn care provider (1st name that comes to people when they think of fertilizer). When i was working on a lawn one day a TG/CL field manager stopped to give me his card, we talked briefly and he explained how they liked to hire from this company because they knew we were well trained and that they could offer more money. I ended up leaving this job for a different field but after a few months I called TG/CL.
The problem is with this industry is the pay structure. During the season you usually work 50+ hours and you dont get 1.5 time. To make money you have to get comision which you do buy going over you goal. A goal is usually at $4000-$5000 a week @ say $35 a stop you need to average 25 stops a day, before you can even think of getting paid overtime or commission. This is why the other companies who charge more do a better job, TG is using a comparable product but there techs just cant spend the time needed on each property.
The worst thing for me about working there was that I had more turf knowledge than the management. I was always being sent around to different areas for service calls. The problem is for the tech these don't get factored in towards your goal. Rather than drive 5min or less from one stop to the other i would usually have 5-6 service calls that the others couldn't solve, that could be 20/30 minuts apart from each other and still have to make my normal 25 stops to do work. So please don't blame us techs most of us work harder than home owners realise, and we do usually take pride in our work. But TrueGreen/ChemLawn does not give us the time needed to give our customers the time they and their lawn deserve.

We had a contract with TruGreen for our fertilizing and lawn pest control for a year. We began to notice that our lawn was thinning and beginning to die. I called an independant contractor to come look at my lawn and he said it appeared to have been sprayed with too many chemicals. I immediately called TruGreen and advised them what the lawn man had said and their reply was that it just needs to be aerated.
The complete lawn eventually did die and I lost both my front and back yard grass and a lot of topsoil due to the rain run off. I called TruGreen back and cancelled my contract and told them that we did not wish to be contacted by them again. They kept calling (at night) to set up our next appointment for treatment.
Finally after being told never to contact us again, they sent a truck and a workman who sprayed our bushes without our knowledge. We found his sign in our front yard when we got home from work. I immediately called TruGreen and the woman I spoke with acknowledged that we had indeed canceled our contract a full year before this latest incident and that there was a note in our file not to have any further contact with us.
I sent the local office a formal letter of complaint regarding the actions taken by the company and said that any further contact would be considered harassment and that legal action would ensue if it continued. I also told them that if there was any damage caused by their illegal spraying, legal action to reclaim damages would also ensue.
This was approximately 2 months ago, March 11, 2005. Yesterday, 4 May 2005, I received a letter from the company TruGreen, requesting that we contact them to reestablish our contract and that we would receive a discount to do so. I can't believe they are persisting like this.
We had to completely re-sod our front and back yards and add topsoil. The cost was in excess of $5,000.

When they called and my wife answered, she asked that they no longer call us ever again ... to which the manager said "Fine" and hung up on her.
We would have let it go at that ... until I received another phone call from the manager today asking me how TruGreen could get my business back again! I am an employee at Trugreen in sales and all I hear from these complaints is disgruntled garbage. We treat over 4 million lawns year to year. Mistakes do happen. All the complaints, as well as lies, happen to every company. People expect fairy dust to be sprinkled on their grass and magic to happen.
People authorize lawn care and then find out their spouse does not want it and lie. Preying on the elderly - how are we to know they are old -- 80 percent of all sales are made over the phone, never having met the person.
In all cases we pride ourselves in customer satisfaction, however it always seems a few people have their own idea of what service is. All complaints are taken seiously and dealt with, with the utmost importance.
So to all you unhappy ex-customers, try to consider that it is not always our fault and when it is we try to rectify it.

They said my weeds would die and my lawn would be looking great which is what I wanted for my daughter's baby shower in Aug. I was out of town part of the summer and when I returned, my grass was dead but the weeds were still thriving. I complained to the Branch Manager who turned me over to the Operations Manager. He came by and looked at my lawn and agreed that the weeds should have been gone. He assured me he would treat my lawn and make it up to me.
Nothing happened. When I got calls to have this and that done in the fall, I said, No thank you, don't even call me again. This is January and last week I find a flag in my lawn that it has been treated by TruGreen. I called them and asked them to explain. She tells me that the contract AUTOMATICALLY renews each year! After seeing no improvement, I called them and reported the problem questioning why they had not caught it. They advised they would send in an inspector.
The next thing I found was an inspection form saying I had Mole Crickets and to call them if I wanted them treated. I was under the impressing that their service should have found the problem and advised me. They asked if I wanted a treatment. I just went ahead and treated it myself. The problem persists.
I was cutting the grass when they appeared for the last treatment. I pointed out all the weeds in the yard and a serviceman said to me, "No problem man, we can take care of this problem".
He took a pump and sprayed about five weeds. There were hundreds remaining in the yard. They left. I paid the bill and asked them, in writing, not to continue any service to my yard.

I have two properties ... one in St. Charles and one in Glen Ellyn. I have used Chemlawn for many years in St. Charles. In 2000 I began using their service at both properties. I used to be happy with them, but it seemed like they were coming more and more to both properties and the prices were going up and up ... to sixty dollars a crack. In the spring of 2003 I called to cancel the service for St. Charles. It was just too expensive.
Their salesman convinced me to stay with the service if he dropped the St. Charles price to $25.00 for just four basic treatments ... fertilizer and weed killer, nothing more. SO, they kept my business. (big mistake on my part) The next St. Charles bill was for $25.00 and then they went up the $35.00. When I called to complain, they said no one ever told me it would be $25.00. SO I sucked it up and paid the $35.00 each time because I didn't want the hassle of fighting them.
But now I am really upest. They came to both properties on December 8th, 2003 and the total was $261.68! At St. Charles, the total was $152.00! This was $58.71 for fall fertilization, $58.71 for fall dormant oil, and $35.00 for EARLY fall application! On the same day, they charged me $109.26 for fall dormant oil ($60.77) and late fall application ($48.49)! (Isn't December 8th a bit late to call it fall application?) I called to complain about the St. Charles bill and how they weren't authorized to do all of those applications. I offered to pay for the Glen Ellyn bill and the $35.00 of the St. Charles bill because the rest was not authorized since I had called them in the early spring to cancel and then was talked into staying with the "discount" and only basic applications.
The guy said he'd have to speak with his supervisor. He called back in about an hour and said they have no documentation that I called in the spring to change the order. Therefore, since they provided the service, I would have to pay. They were also mad that I hadn't paid the bill yet and I explained that happened because I needed to have time to talk with someone. I am on spring break today and finally had the time. He said it's an issue of me not paying and I said it's an issue of them providing services they were not authorized to provide.
I am being asked to pay $117.42 for a service I didn't ask for. I have medical expenses and I don't want to just throw this money to the Chemlawn wolves!

Last Fall I agreed to have an ant control sprayed around the perimeter of my home. I was told that the treatments would be done once in the Fall and once in the Spring and the cost would be $83.46 tax included. The perimeter treatment was to last one year, (12 months), as per the sales call that I received. I agreed to the two treatments. On Sept. 24, 2003 the first application was applied. I paid $41.73 for this application. Then, on Oct. 27, 2003, I found that the True Green Chemlawn put the second application. I wondered why the second application was put down only a month later--but I paid the $41.73 for the application. I felt the people knew what they were doing.
Then...last Friday, on March 20, 2004, my daughter, who was checking our house while we were away, saw and killed several ants. When we arrived home, on March 22, 2004, we also have been killing ants. Today I called our TruGreen Chemlawn and told them about the ants. I was informed that each treatment lasts only a month! I was suckered because I was told the two treatments were to last one year and I believed them. Then I questioned why the Spring application was done one month after the first...response: it only is good for one month! At this rate, I would be paying them $500.76 to kill ants all year long. I had been spraying around my house one time a year, using three spray cans at about $4.00 each. So for $12.00 I was ant free for ONE WHOLE YEAR!

May is not the time to seed. It's too hot. They have since done soil samples and said we have a chemical problem with our soil and someone else called and said we have grubs. I didn't know grubs know where the property lines were?
Because the neighbors on both sides have thriving grass, it is very clear that it was their chemicals and applicators fault. We have clay soil and I was told by another source grubs don't live in clay. And we never saw the japanees beatles in our yards.
They are dragging their feet and trying to make it look like we applied something to our yard that interacted with their chemicals. What we apply in our back yard we also apply to our front yard and our back yard didnt die. We believe they applicator used either the wrong stuff or too high of a concentration or too much of it that killed our sod.
We are tired of dealing with this matter and want our beautiful yard back. We have neighbors who can attest to the thriving green lawn we once had. We are willing to live with the current conditions until the fall. Then we would like either the replacement of sod or have our lawn properly tilled and reseeded. Well, this looked so official, I almost sent them a check! Then I thought, hey, I didn't request a lawn analysis! You may laugh at this, but I have a large green rubber snake on my back porch, to keep birds out of the cat food. Well, the day TruGreen came out, the snake was moved onto my front porch. Consequence? Gee, do I need to lock my gate now? (gate to back yard that is)
If TruGreen's little green men are indeed inviting themselves into people's back yards they could technically be charged with trespassing. Maybe worse, they might eventually blunder into a backyard with something meaner (and livelier) than a rubber snake. If Barbara wants to press the point, she can send the company a certified letter denying them permission to enter her property ever again. She could also post a small "No Trespassing" sign at her property's entrance.

I worked for Trugreen and Chemlawn for about 8 years. The problem for the consumer is that Trugreen doesn't tell the customer what all they have in store for them down the road.
First is eight applications a year at 6-8 weeks apart. Well, they are still selling 8 applications in March and Early April. It just ain't possible to get all the chemicals down in time to stop the weeds that late in the year.
Next the customer gets bombarded with a bunch of pitches for tree and shrub service, aerations, grub control and brown patch control. The funny thing is that if you have active grubs or brown patch, they take care of it free of charge.
I understand the customer's frustration when a tech runs across their lawn and is done in 3 minutes. Well, the equipment is set to put out the right amount even though they were only there a short time. If you get a lazy tech who doesn't want to treat your weeds or look for any other signs, you're up a river.
It's easy to push a spreader all day long if that's all you have to do.
It's all about customer expectations. The new sales people have no idea what weeds are what, and what products are used. All the sales people want to do is sell you the most expensive stuff to make your lawn look nice. Once they have your phone number they will call you for the next five years, unless you ask to be taken off their list.
And that's just to sell you new stuff. It doesn't include the number of times they call you for applications, and other efforts to sell you products and services. They call from 9 AM to 9PM and now they are going door to door.
Just beware that the service can be good if you know what you are getting into, and you know what you need to do.
