We have had our lawn by these people for about 3 or 4 years. They come 5 times during the summer for treatment of bugs and make the lawn greener. This year we had a few brown patches all over. We have asked several times what the problem was, they say it's the hot weather. The last treatment we had another guy named Bret with Corwell look at the lawn, he said we had sod worms and it needs to be treated. I thought what they have done in the past should have taken care of this. We have called 4 times and nobody gets back with us on this problem. I think they should fix the problem at no cost to us! We will not have them back next season, we will find someone else.

TruGreen first sprayed the neighbor’s scrubs and charged us for this. Although TruGreen admits they made the mistake, they still would not remove these charges. My backyard looks worse than ever. It was in good condition prior to hiring TruGreen. I have moles and grub worms in my side yard and went to Lowe’s to buy products to fix this. So why am I paying $43.05 to TruGreen? Also, I am going to have to weed my backyard by hand and resod some areas. I feel TruGreen scammed me. My yard looks worse than ever.

In June 2009, Tim from TruGreen came out and gave us a quote for 1 year's worth of service. This estimate included 1 lime treatment and 7 fertilization. We agreed to pre-pay for the 1 lime and 7 fertilization. In Feb 2010, we received a bill for a lime treatment. I called to ask why I was receiving a bill since I had pre-paid for 1 year. They explained they had put lime on my yard in June and again in Feb. Why? You should only put lime on your yard once per year. They agreed and said they would remove the charge.
I kept receiving bills for the lime treatment. I kept calling back and was continually told that the charge would be removed. I started getting bills from collection agencies for this lime application. Finally, after about 6 bills and 6 calls, the charge was removed. Then, I started receiving a bill for a fertilization. You have to be kidding me! This was in April of 2010. So, again, I called and called and called. I was told that the charge would be removed. This week, I received 2 letters from 2 different collection agencies on the charge for this fertilization. Today, I spoke to 2 different people at TruGreen. It turns out that they put fertilizer on my yard 8 times in 10 months time! That includes the winter! Crazy! And, they want me to pay them for the 8th application.
Have you ever heard of any lawn company applying fertilizer 8 times in 10 months? That is every 6 weeks all winter long. Seriously? So, I am now waiting for a manager to call me back. However, Emanuel, the second employee I spoke with today, can't tell me his manager's name or give me any time frame in which the manager will be calling me back. I am serious. Can you imagine? I asked him 2 or 3 times, "You don't know your manager's name? " Wonderful customer service--insane.

I was billed $50 for a application that I did not request. On contacting them, I was told my "one year" contact was really for only 10 applications. Therefore I had assumed that my "one year contract" had expired. No so they said. I was billed $50 for another application during the 11th month that I did not request. You must give them written notice of cancellation or they keep coming and billing. Do not use TrueGreen.

My lawn was newly seeded and sewn during the spring 2010. TruGreen applied their first application and killed my lawn because it was well rooted and should not have been treated. 1/3 of my yard is dead. I have contacted TruGreen numerous times to which the majority of my calls were not returned. When I finally got to talk with someone, they made a lot of empty promises. I’m purely disgusted with TruGreen. Stay away from them!

I've been in contact with Mr. K. ** who has displayed TruGreen's lack of integrity is more expansive than the Customer Care Department. After placing a call to your corporate office, Mr. K. ** called later than the corporate offices' self-imposed twenty-four hour deadline proving beyond a shadow of a doubt TruGreen's failure to meet their promissory obligations.
I have received a statement from your firm indicating not only a balance due, but to add insult to injury a 30-day Past Due Notice. Sir, I do not pay my bills late. Nichola, an office manager, confirmed a zero balance for my account. If I have a confirmed zero balance, then why sir, is your firm making an attempt to collect money from me, not to mention marring my good name with a Past Due notifications? I find this tactic highly questionable and borderline deceptive. This, with supporting documentation is being mailed to J. P. **, CEO of the ServiceMaster Company (parent company of TruGreen); B. **, TruGreen vice president and S. **, TruGreen president. We will see the response offered. Further actions will include formal complaints with our local Home Owners Associations, The Better Business Bureau, The Chamber of Commerce, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, The State of Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and The Federal Trade Commission.
Not to mention expressing not only to the San Antonio area but with the aid of Facebook and Twitter those outside our immediate areas regarding our experiences with TruGreen at the behest of the ServiceMaster Company, urging audiences to cease and desist all business dealings with TruGreen and any subsidiary of The ServiceMaster Company.

I asked for a one-time lawn service in February 2010 for aeration and weed/feed. They didn't show up when supposed to and I had to call a few times. Every time I spoke to them, they wanted me to sign up for maintenance service. I repeatedly said no as I could not afford or need it. They lost the payment and took a lot of calls to get it straightened out.
Last month, TruGreen shows up unannounced and does lawn maintenance which they claim I asked for. Now we will see how long it will take to cancel the bill as I will not pay it. I have a $41 bill that they said they will credit. We shall see. It was very clear to them that they were only needed one time. "Lenny" signed us up for maintenance, claiming we requested it.

This is my second year I got lawn service from TruGreen. Today my lawn is full of weeds and a kind of grass that spreads, leaps, and bounds here and there. My lawn was very nice before I took their service, but I do not know how I am going to fix the weeds now. I assume they spread them. Even last year, it was not as worse as it looks today. They promised me that they would fix it. I paid in full for the whole year service and they made it very, very bad. Just now they called me again and my response was a big no! My response would be no even they offer free service. Trust me! An honest recommendation: You keep them away from your lawn.

I had a lawn, tree, and shrub contract with Guardian Lawn Service. I have copies of my bills and payments to Guardian indicating that I have the services noted. Guardian sold out to TruGreen in June of 2010. At the end of June, beginning of July, TruGreen assumed Guardian's responsibilities to my lawn, trees, and shrubs. The payment for services had been made to Guardian.
I called TruGreen in early July because one of my plum trees and several shrubs looked like they were dying. I was told that TruGreen had not yet entered the newly acquired customers into their database and that I would have to wait for service. When I insisted, the agent told me she would send someone to my property. A week later, I received a written response that someone checked the tree and that there was noticeable girdling. TruGreen never addressed the dying bushes nor gave me any remedy for the tree. I e-mailed TruGreen several times and complained about my lawn, which also started to look as though it was diseased but no one addressed the lawn.
I only received a written note, again, about my original complaint regarding the plum tree stating that the tree was falling over. When I inspected the tree, it did not look as if it was falling over. No solutions were provided by TruGreen. When I called TruGreen's main office in Tennessee, I was told that TruGreen was not maintaining my lawn and I only had tree and shrub service. I sent e-mails to TruGreen with photos complaining about their service and they just ignored me.

I have used TruGreen to treat my lawn for 6 years. I had laid new sod and wanted to maintain the great looking grass. I have had to call numerous times over the years and this year was the worst. The lawn is full of weeds, dead in places and they only wanted to give me half off my next treatment. I had initially called to speak with a manager and 3 days later no one called. Then they called constantly wanting me to use the half off service and continue. The techs don't spray enough products from what I could tell watching them and maybe used the wrong things since now my grass looks bad. I want people to shop for lawn care elsewhere. They aren't good enough for what they charge.

They charged me and I didn't pay the bill because they told me they could prove they got authorization. It’s impossible to do. At the time of services, I was out of state with the US Air Force. My cell had limited capabilities. True Green never proved their authorization. After 3 years of service, their work was being questioned by me. They finally came out to do another evaluation on the lawn. At that time, I was informed that they needed to change the application. Basically, they were treating my lawn with the wrong application.
They wanted to immediately change the process. Last July, I allowed a one time application of Grub treatment and paid for it. Out of the blue, they show up this year and treat for grubs again. They verified that my service was canceled back in March of this year. After discovering that had been misdiagnosing my lawn, I still get calls from them to schedule an application. It’s totally out of control! I have asked repeatedly for the management to call me. To date, I have received not one phone call from them.

Trugreen Service has ruined my lawn. I signed up in August 2009 and was very happy initially and saw some consistent improvement in my lawn until the June 2010 service. A week after that service, I had a very distressed looking lawn and called for a follow-up. I was told it was due to "fungus", but I do not believe that was the case. I then noticed several dead spots which continued to grow and spread. In spite of having patience and calling for additional service, there was no improvement. I now had a 10-foot diameter dead spot in the back and numerous problems elsewhere.
On August 3, I called for a Managers Service Call. No response. Approximately 10 days later, I called again and was told that "Paul" would be contacting me. No response. On the 18th of August (Wednesday), I called again and then received a call back from "Paul". He was very dismissive and told me he had never received a message regarding my case and that he "was out of the office a lot". He said he would come and take a look at my lawn on Friday, August 18, and would call me after he had been here. Again, no response from TruGreen.
On Tuesday, August 24th, after receiving no communication, I called TruGreen to cancel my service and was disconnected after voicing my complaints. I called back to verify that my service had been canceled and it was. The representative encouraged me to call the corporate 800 number to voice my complaints. I did and spoke with Ed and gave him the rundown on what had transpired. He told me that he would contact the local office and that a manager would visit my lawn and contact me within 2 days. I expressed skepticism that they would provide service to someone who was no longer a customer, but he assured me that my (former) account was important to TruGreen. That was weeks ago and it is now a joke--when I come home I ask, "Honey, was the TruGreen manager here today? "
It makes no sense to spend money and time on a "service" that is nonexistent. Now, I have a lawn that has a lot of problems will cost a good deal to correct and I've wasted a year of time dealing with TruGreen. Huge dead spots in my lawn, lots of weeds. I need to replace around $150 worth of sod and get rid of the weeds in parts of the lawn that have recovered from TruGreen's "care".
A worthless company don't give them your business or they'll give you the business. I handed them a years worth of payments and I have a lawn that looks worse than it did before I initiated service with TruGreen.

I received a flyer from Trugreen, with the specific name, Myron, as the contact. I called and spoke with Myron several times, and finally, he provided me a quote that supposedly included cleaning, prepping and install of grass for the whole yard. According to Myron, it would require 5 pallets of grass to complete the work, as we had some grass that was "salvageable." Total cost for this was $1,825.
Upon arrival and "completion" of the work, the 5 pallets were not even enough for the front yard alone, much less the backyard. Needless to say, I have tried Myron's number unsuccessfully and there is no vm any longer. The phone now rings off. Must say that I am very disappointed at the very shoddy service that Trugreen provides and I would never recommend them or any of their products/services to anyone that I know or care about. I work in the private sector, however, we also service the public, and I daresay, that no one at my Institution would be left with a job if we ever provided such dishonest and shoddy service to our clients.

I tried something different this year. Instead of taking care of my lawn myself, I hired TruGreen. I’m sorry to say my lawn is in terrible shape. Hands down it’s the worst in the neighborhood. I know it’s been a long hot summer but I believe they killed my lawn. My proof is I only had them treat my front lawn. The sides and back are fine. Only the treated area is dead. I won't make the same mistake next year! It looks like I'm going to have to hire a lawn service to till and re-seed my entire lawn.

I started using TruGreen service back in May for weed control service. The weeds were under control after about two months and then my yard was taken over by what they claimed to be a fungus. Depending on the person I spoke with I received a different story as to what type of fungus it was and how to control it. It is now September 2, 2010 and the grass that I had including new sod is now dead and brown. I have cancelled all of my services with them and will not advise anyone to utilize their services as it killed my grass. They only offered me 3 trays of grass plugs to compensate for the loss which isn’t enough to cover a corner of my yard.

We started with Lawn Service from Trugreen in 2007. We have a very large yard in the country with fields all around, so there were quite a few weeds. It took two years, but in 2009, we were very happy with our lush, green yard. Not so this year! It started out okay in the spring but as the dry summer wore on, our grass turned brown along with everyone else's. The only problem is it never recovered.
There are very large patches of dead (not just dormant) grass. It looks very much like fertilizer burn. Last application was 07/21. A service manager came out to inspect and told us pretty much what I expected. "Neighbors yards are green because they have weeds. You don't." But we don't have green grass, either! Gave no explanation as to why our grass is dead. Just offered to do some "seeding work" in the fall at no charge. But we are left to water if it doesn't rain and hope it grows and comes up in the spring. I'd just like them to admit they did something wrong to cause the problem and give us our money back. Service has been canceled and I will never use Trugreen again! Large areas of dead grass in our yard. Will most likely have to spend hours replanting and watering in the spring of 2011 as well as paying for seed, topsoil, etc.

I started using TruGreen in January of 2010. They started spraying for the normal weeds--dandelions, crabgrass, nutgrass and other assorted weeds. For some reason, my lawn is divided into 1/2 as Bermuda and the other 1/2 as St. Augustine. TruGreen applied the same spray to both sections. Weeds grew until I had a field of weeds and my St. Augustine started to die, becoming brown spots all over. TruGreen came back multiple times to spray for the weeds. It took them until August of 2010 to eliminate most, but not all weeds.
In July, the field manager came out to look at my lawn. He set up a schedule whereby TruGreen would kill off all of the St. Augustine and then sod with Bermuda. This schedule included discounts on all applications until my yard is repaired. I continue to get billed the full amount and have to call customer service multiple times to get this resolved. I was informed by the field manager that TruGreen would come out to lay sod during the week of Aug 23-27. An exact day was not provided at that time. No one came out. No one called to tell me that plans were changed. This is the most unprofessional business I have ever dealt with.

First of all, when they came out to analyze what my lawn needed, they told me it was a Bermuda lawn. Much to my surprise, because it actually is Tall Fescue. I have never had as many weeds. In fact, it's all weeds now. I called and complained. They came out to treat, and told me the reason for it was, because it had been treated as Bermuda. They treated the weeds, and called for a refund the next day, and told me that in fact, it was treated for Fescue, and that I only had 2 treatments, which is true, but that is because that's how many times they came out. Since it's almost time to plant new seeds, hopefully I will be able to get rid of all the weeds. Thanks to Tru Green. I have cancelled their service, and will probably do better on my own, as in the past.

To start off, not all lawns are to be treated the same! I conveyed to the initial salesperson that I had been working on getting grass in my lawn for 2 years. I finally had a good amount of grass growing in my front yard and around my patio in the back. I put down tons of grass seed and top soil in order for it to grow. When I spoke to the salesperson, I explained all of this, in other words, this was not well established grass but new grass, grass that should not be over fertilized. Assuming he knew what he was talking about, I thought I would give it a shot to maybe really bring my yard around. I was wrong.
The first application was on 3/3-9 followed by 5/1, 6/14 6/28 and 7/31 (last one, I had cancelled the service on 7/30). I had complained early on that the weeds were multiplying vs dying, hence another application. And though there was a crabgrass application put down, it thrived along with every weed. It slowly killed off any grass I had growing and left plenty of room for the weeds to take over, which I might add, was the exact opposite of what they told me was supposed to happen. Currently, I have literally no real grass growing but all weeds even after 5 applications. All the work and effort I had put in to achieve a green lawn is gone. In the spring, I will have to start over which means hundreds of dollars I spent to get the grass to grow, including Trugreens fees, is up in smoke. I truly believe I would have done better on my own. At least, I had grass amongst the weeds. All gone now(!) burnt up from the fertilizer!
Also, after I complained, they sent a tech whom I spoke with. I showed him one of the weeds growing all over the place, and he had no idea what it was. I looked it up and it was a very common weed called nutgrass. I would think the techs would know that. That is another indication that the techs are not really knowledgeable, but do what they are told to do, lay another application. Another complaint is that, by accident, I overpaid by $40. On my second call to the office in trying to stop the service, I relayed it to the person I spoke with and she said that she could see that. So to me, they knew my account was overpaid by 40 but continued to be billed for services. I made the overpayment on May 1st. My concern was that they never intended to give that back!
Then when I called on 8/11 and complained that someone had come out on 7/31 and laid an application after I called and cancelled on 7/30, they said that I cancelled with the sales dept and that had nothing to do with them. I demanded to talk to a manager and they gave me the office supervisor. He in turn asked that I pay for at least half since I would benefit from the application. I thought these people are nuts! They already had an additional $40 from me and then ask for me to pay another $20 for an application I had canceled. I did receive a check for the additional overpayment about a week and a half later. My concern is that if I had not noticed that, I am not sure they would have paid it back?
The bottom line is, never hire a lawn service if they do not listen to what you initially tell them. Again, all lawns are not the same and should not be treated as such. Real experts would know how to handle that. Obviously, Trugreen are not real experts and I would never recommend them. They, like many, many others are just interested in making a buck vs what their service is truly about. My advice, if you are working with a new lawn and new grass, do not ever hire a company such as Trugreen to treat your lawn. Their answer to everything is another application vs getting down to what the real problem is. My lawn should have never been treated with that much fertilizer.
One last comment: my daughter came home from college and looked out into the yard and said "what happened to the grass?" She knew nothing of my complaints about Trugreen. I think that pretty much says it all! I spent hours/days for two years on getting grass to grow around the perimeter of my house and now it is all weeds. I spent a ton of money on seed and top soil which, I might add, that I hauled bag by bag and put around my yard. Again, the grass is gone, weeds are thriving, thanks to Trugreen and their expertise.

I have to say that TruGreen did, in fact, do a great job on our lawn last year! It was horrible beforehand due to the fact that our city tore up the street and the replanting of soil and sod was poor quality (that's being nice about it).
This year, though, has been another story. Weeds kept reappearing. Crabgrass was abundant. I called TruGreen a few times after their field rep sprayed to complain. They did come out again and respray, but the technician (or whatever his position is called) told me that they weren't totally responsible for the crabgrass and weeds since there was an abundance of it from our surrounding neighbors, and that the seeds just blow over and there's nothing that I nor they can do to stop it.
Oay, so if that's the case, why do I need TruGreen at all? Well, because I do take pride in my yard and property, unlike some others om our street. But if their tech is going to tell me that their service can't stop what's happening, then I guess it's someone getting a makeover before going to the gym. What's the point if the treatment is going to be a waste of time?
I probably wouldn't have even bothered writing this today except for the fact that I've been reading complaints online, which made my decision to cancel easier. But among those complaints were so many people saying that they stopped the service, yet continued to get billed and also many customers saying that they wondered if TruGreen ever treated their lawn at all. This caught my attention yesterday because even former employees stated that they said that they cheated customers due to needing to meet productivity levels that were almost unattainable in a 10-hour day.
Anyhow, after canceling yesterday, TruGreen showed up today. I didn't catch the guy in time to tell him not to spray, that we had canceled yesterday, so supposedly our lawn was "treated". I only knew of this because I opened the front door to check our mailbox, but noticed the TruGreen statement attached to the screen door.
Funny, though, it stated that he was there at 1:35pm, yet I looked at the clock and it was 1:30pm. Okay, so maybe his watch is running fast, but then he must've been running fast himself because there was no way he could've even sprayed for ten minutes since I had just gotten home. However, usually after they treat our lawn, there is a distinct chemical odor in the air. I couldn't smell it. I went into our backyard and couldn't smell a thing either. I even got on my knees in order to sniff the grass. Usually there is a glistened look on the grass blades as well from the chemicals, but I didn't see this.
So I think it's safe to come to the conclusion that he didn't bother spraying. I can't prove it since I didn't see him not spray, but the evidence certainly wasn't on our lawn or in the air. Did he actually stop just to write a bill and place that warning stick into our grass? I don't know.
I immediately called their office, telling Emily (their customer service rep) about the time discrepancy on their bill/statement and, more importantly, the fact that we canceled their service yesterday. She told me that I could disregard the bill (of course, I'm going to disregard it. But they better not send me a statement either), but she didn't seem the least bit concerned nor offered to direct me to a manager when I told her about my doubts that their tech even sprayed. I mean, come on, there was no residue at all! However, she really didn't care, as I could tell by the tone of her voice.
I've spent more time in my yard this summer than I wanted to due to the abundance of weeds and crabgrass, figuring that the hiring of TruGreen would alleviate some time and labor. If someone looked at my yard today, it's because of what I did, not TruGreen, because I am willing to bet that I've spent 5-6 hours over the last month hand-pulling weeds and crabgrass. So if they ever came by (not that they would since they really don't care) and said, "Your lawn looks good to me," it would only be because I was on my hands and knees tending to it myself.
So, for anyone coming across complaint sections in forums regarding TruGreen where some former techs have claimed to be "ghosting" (claiming to treat a lawn when they actually didn't) services, I can now say, sadly, firsthand that this actually does occur.
I hope that they don't screw with the billing part. I won't get into that until it happens, but they definitely didn't treat my lawn as they've been saying, which might be why I've pulled so many weeds and crabgrass by hand over the past month.

If my lawn was a glowing green jewel of a lawn, I might forgive the multiple billing issues. Alas, it has deteriorated while under TruGreen's care. First, TruGreen charged my credit card a $45.00 monthly fee five times in one month. Instead of $45.00, my card was charged $225.00.
Then I opted to pay a year in advance, yet I continued to receive bills. Every time I received a bill, I'd call and explain that I'd paid a year in advance. The TruGreen customer service rep would apologize. Finally, today I asked for a supervisor. I spoke to Jody. She explained that their computer system often double charges accounts and every day she goes through the charges and organizes the refunds. So why did I get hit five times? "I was on vacation," Jody explained. "I called everybody when I got back." Oh. That makes it all OK. (Not!)
Why wasn't someone else looking for double charges while supervisor Jody enjoyed her time away? And why am I still getting bills and phone calls about being late with a payment when I've paid in advance? "We accidentally refunded your advance payment," Jody explained. Yup, that whole year's worth of lawn care that I thought was paid in full when I paid my June credit card balance is—gone. I have to budget for it all over again. Yes, as Jody not so helpfully pointed out repeatedly on the phone today, TruGreen did give me my money back. But in June my husband and I were preparing to travel in Asia. And with a slew of additional expenses associated with that, the refund went unnoticed.
Apparently, TruGreen doesn't care that their bad billing practices could put someone over the limit, incurring fees and tying up funds that might be needed for other things. I may have been refunded my money, but it feels like I have to spend it twice. And no one can give me back the time I have spent on the phone with TruGreen, sifting through old credit card statements trying to sort this mess out. Stay away from TruGreen unless you like spending your days off on hold while customer service reps prepare to apologize with barely concealed irritation. My lawn has weeds and spots of dead grass. I lost time and I have to budget for lawn care all over again.

Hired TruGreen to save our yard from neighbors on both sides with weeds and wild grasses. Our yard was plush and green, double mowed twice a week. Beautiful. We thought we were taking a preventative measure, but what we got was fertilizer burn in huge 3 foot stripes all across our front yard as well as the backyard. We have called multiple times with little luck getting a return phone call. No reimbursement for such bad services. A month later, our yard was treated again and looks the same with bald, dead spots. Now they say the yard has a fungus! A new tech treated this week and had no clue of previous damage done. We have continuously watered our yard days on end—with a water bill to prove it. We will have to either sod or seed the dead spots in front and back yards.

Customer service is unprofessional and incompetent while the billing practices are underhanded. Specifically, the last name was spelled incorrectly when I opened my account and it took 6 phone calls to get it changed. I was assured the name was changed the whole time. Multiple representatives would interrupt and/or talk over me (Nick in the National Center is the latest). As for the billing issues, sending statements every 2 weeks led me to make duplicate payments in July. It took contact with a supervisor to sort it out. Now I receive a bill while I still have a credit on my account and find out (after speaking to Nick) that my credit is on my "bug" account, not my "lawn" account. I receive a bill from TruGreen not multiple vendors and expect to pay one vendor. If TruGreen can't hire personnel that can change a name on an account or how to group services for a single customer into one bill (and never tell the customer), how can I trust that TruGreen has any idea how to perform the lawn services correctly? Please feel free to contact me.

I responded to a door hanger, Doug ** came to my home and explained the program. He stated it was a $400 a year cost, the first 2 treatments were $25 each, other treatments every 4 to 6 weeks. My first credit card debit was for $75, I questioned the bill through customer service and was told it was for $25 crab grass treatment and $50 regular treatment. After explaining what I was promised, I was given a $25 credit. Eight days later. my yard was treated again for crab grass at another debit of $25.
I again called customer service and was told that is normal procedure. My yard is very small, at the initial visit I explained I need to know in advance to keep my dogs inside so the backyard can be serviced. No notice was given, customer service had no knowledge of my dog situation. The backyard was not treated on this second crab grass treatment. During that call, I canceled the service. Within 8 days they charged my credit card $108. I called after the cancellation and asked if they had a note regarding the $25 credit, they did not. I will pay the $108 and be done with them. I will teach myself to treat my lawn and not be taken to the cleaners by this company.

In the fall of 2009, we started using the services of Trugreen with much excitement. Right before the winter frost they aerated our lawn poorly, we called them, they came back and did it again, no problems. When spring came around, we noticed how lush and green the grass was growing and we got excited about the coming 2010 summer of finally having a healthy lawn. After the first spray for weeds, we noticed a decrease in the green and fullness of the lawn. My husband then asked for them to call before coming out so that we could talk about ways to keep the lawn green and full. They never called before coming out and all of their comments made it our fault the grass wasn't growing green and full.
After the fifth treatment, the technician suggested on his carbon slip he left in the door that we water the grass more. Minnesota has had an unseasonably wet summer, so the suggestion was ludicrous, but we did it anyway. The next slip on the next visit suggested fall aeration, again! That was it. We cancelled our service. We are extremely frustrated and disappointed that we spent $36 a visit to have brown grass and our neighbors who don't take care of their lawn, have lush green grass. It brings me to tears every time I drive up to my house. Our grass looked better last year when we did everything ourselves. Now we have to put extra work into getting it green before the winter, in hopes that it takes so that we can put our house up for sale in the spring. It just frustrates me to no end. Trugreen should pay us for the damage they did to our lawn. Or at least give us our money back!
Our grass is dying. It's brown and the only green are the weeds.

To begin with, we have been a customer of Trugreen since 1978 when we lived in Concord, California. We used them when we were in Antioch, Ca too. When we moved to Sparks Nevada we signed up with their Reno branch right away. We have had good service up until recently. In April of 2010 we canceled our lawn care because our gardener said he would do it. We still have our tree and shrub care. The lawn did not look as good so the first week of August I called Sac. CA to reorder our lawn service. Nothing was done.
I called Iris in Reno to find out what happened. First I was told by a very rude Christina that we had a $41 balance and that they would do nothing until it was paid. This amount was for a lawn service that was charged in April of 2010 and never performed. The account was supposed to be credited and was never done. I called Sac. today 8-20-2010 and was told Iris was going to call me at work. She never did. As far as we are concerned we will drop all services with you and we have found another company to care for our yard and will never refer this company again. You will most likely not do anything about this complaint. With the economy in the shape it is in I would think you would want to keep customers happy.

After agreeing to give them some time to fix the lawn, it still isn't fixed. I have waited a year now but to no avail, it looks worse than it did before. I had sod laid down. In April of 2008 we moved into our new home that we had built. We had black dirt brought in for our new lawn. Due to us not being able to get sod and seed until the Fall, the rough dirt started to grow weeds like wild fire. I did not want to mow weeds on rough dirt so I called Trugree in Champaign, IL. They came to my home and told me that they could get rid of all the weed by spraying round up and it would be fine to plant in the fall. After about a month the weeds did not die so I called back and they sent someone else out to re-spray. This person told me that the previous sprayer had been fired and may not have done a good job. This time the spray worked and it killed everything. For the rest of the summer we had just black dirt as our yard.
In the Spring of the next year the builder came and laid sod in the front and seeded the back. This was professionally done. We took care of it as directed. The seed germinated and began to grow and the sod seemed to take as well. Witin a week of the seed germination the grass began to die. The entire back yard died and became black dirt again. I also noticed that the front sod was beginning to die in certain areas. My wife and I purchased several bags of seed and planed several more times. Each time it germinated then died. We have spent thousands of dollars renting tillers, slip seeders, having airration done, fertilizing, and seeding to try to get a yard to grow. We could never get the back to grow and the front kept dying off.
I called Trugreen and explained to them that ever since they sprayed my yard nothing would grow. We even lost several plants when we landscaped. The manager, Jason, came out and looked at the yard. He told me that they would take samples and test the soil and that they did not spray anything that would cause this to happen. They told me that the tests came back good and the soil was good to plant in. They did not test for chemicals however due to the cost. Jason told me to rent a tiller and till up the whole back yard and he would spray a charcoal solution that would absorb any chemicals in the yard. This was done in the fall and he said that he would come back in the Spring and re-seed the backyard.
In the Spring, Jason seeded and again we were able to get the back yard to germinate. This time, most of the yard took hold and began to grow. However there were several large spots that died off. We did have 3/4 of the yard full of grass that took. As the summer went on the crabgrass began to take over the yard which at this point we did not care because it was green and we could let the dogs out. The funny thing was that the crab grass did not grown in the areas where it died off. In fact nothing including weeds grew in the yard until after it was sprayed with what they said was a charcoal solution.
This time I called the District Manager, Spencer. I explained the situation and he came to take some of the top soil to grow beans and grass in a bucket in the office. He said that everything was growing for him so he came and re-did the areas that died both in the front and back. He told us to keep the soil moist and watered. We did this religiously and got it to germinate again. We noticed that again it was dying off again despite the watering (which is what we have done every time and can prove it with our huge water bill and neighbors).
I called Spencer back a few weeks later and explained that it germinated then died again and asked him to look at it. This time he was rude and said that he had stopped by on Friday and the soil was dry. (the one day we were out of town and it rained that night) He said that we were not to let it dry out and that it was our fault. He said that the soil that he took from our yard was growing stuff at the office and there was nothing else they would do. I told him that the only thing that has helped was the spraying of the charcoal solution but he refused to do it again. He said that the soil was fine and they did not have anything that they could spray that would cause this to happen especially after nearly 2 years. Spencer could not explain what was going on and refused to help any further.
At this point, I called another local company and explained the entire situation to them. They took soil samples as well and were going to test the PH and other levels to make sure what Trugreen was telling me was true. The new company felt that even if Trugreen did not want to do any more to help me they should have at least helped me figure out what was wrong. All I have wanted was a yard to let the dogs out in. We are stuck not know at this point what is wrong and if there is something deeper in the soil that kills the roots after the germination. The front looks awful and the back is worse. The fact of the matter is that the soil was growing everything under the sun before it was sprayed by Trugreen and now we can not get anything to grow in it, not even weeds.

Since signing up, we have had disease and more weeds than we have ever seen on our lawn before. We called TruGreen May 2010 to complain that it was not looking good. Finally on 6/14, Brendan came out and said our lawn was dry and that was why it was brown. We have an in ground sprinkler system that is working perfectly.
We called back on 6/22 and spoke with Jane and Jennifer and they said we would get a visit within 24 to 48 hours from Chris the Regional Field Manager. Chris finally showed on 7/2 and diagnosed that we had Dollar Spot disease on our lawn but that it was at it's end (which means we had it when Brendan was here but he didn't diagnose it). I called customer service on 7/2 and spoke with Sean who said Joe (Branch Manager), would call me back on 7/6. Instead, Sean called my husband on 7/2 and said that he thought it just needed time.
We called back in July again and again management never returned our call. We spoke with Mike on 8/5 and he said Joe would call us on 8/6 which he never did. My husband called on 8/11 and cancelled our contract and they said they could only credit us the portion of contract that was not yet completed. However as far as I am concerned, the contract was not fulfilled even in the beginning because they did not provide the service that was promised. They ignored the disease in the lawn. But he told me they had a package where they only come 4 times throughout the summer and it was much cheaper. I agreed to this package and paid my bills in full.
Now this year, they decided that I would automatically want this same service again. Without even notifying me, they came and did an application and are now trying to bill me for it. When I called to complain, they said that they always automatically renew their contracts. Now I know that I was not aware of this, and if it was in some small print in an attempt to get me to agree to something, I did not know about it then.
That is just completely unethical. Now the bill is only $30, and I assume this is how they get away with this, because people would rather pay the $30 than deal with them. Now I have a collection agency sending me letters. I have just filed bankruptcy and could easily add this to the stack of bills I have. But this is so ridiculous. I refuse.

In November 2009, I became a 1st time homeowner in Lake Doe subdivision in Apopka, FL. On May, I put in new grass due to HOA threats to sue me if I didn't replace it immediately (the whole neighborhood had bad grass pretty much.) However, I spent $2,000.00 on new grass and $500 in water bills for the next 2 water bills to keep this new grass maintained.
Well, the end of May, the HOA sent TruGreen around the neighborhood to try to get us to keep the grass maintained through them. I decided that this would be a good idea because I wanted to keep my expensive grass maintained. At this time the grass was beautiful, no problems at all, nice and green with no weeds. Well, on June 1st, TruGreen came and sprayed my new grass with a chemical that had been sitting out over the "Long Memorial Day Weekend" (per TruGreen field supervisor) and within hours of spraying my grass it was burnt in appearance.
I called the TruGreen rep that had hung his sign on my door just days earlier and he gave me the # of the field supervisor, after arguing with me that my grass couldn't have been burnt already. Anyhow, I called the field supervisor and he came out a day later at which time the grass was yellowish/brown in color. He told us to keep watering the grass for 3 weeks and it "should come back. " Well 3 weeks past and the grass was still brown and now weeds were entering our yard from our neighbors yard because the new grass we put down is now weak and a grass "expert" that my fiance talked to said that this will happen when the grass is damaged.
2 weeks ago, the field supervisor finally made it out to my house again and I informed him that I am so unhappy and I want my grass completely replaced. It is just awful, now there are weeds, crabgrass, brown spots, dead spots, yellow spots and our neighbors weeds are greener than any part of my grass is! The field supervisor said he couldn't authorize a new lawn and wanted to plug certain areas, I told him, "No, absolutely not." I want my grass back to the way it was before that TruGreen rep ever stepped foot onto my property. He said he would have a general manager contact me because he couldn't authorize what I want.
On July 8th, I was contacted by the general manager who said he would be in Apopka on Saturday the 10th, however I informed him that I am a RN and I work night shift so he said he would leave a note that he was there and he could contact me on Sunday the 11th when I woke up. I never heard from him and there was never a note on my door.
I have called and left messages with the TruGreen office personnel for the general manager to call me back on the 22nd and 23rd but he hasn't called me back. I feel as if I am being avoided, I even told this to the girl who answered the phone yesterday and I also told her that if the general manager didn't call me back yesterday then I would be contacting a lawyer. He still did not call me back. I am beyond upset and just cannot understand how this company thinks they can get away with this.

This was the 6th debit from my account. I had no extra work done and the original agreement was for 5 debits.
I was having a problem with wild violets, which they were told last year. They sent a representative out who told me nothing could be done cannot control. Called the company and they sent out a field manager. I gave him all the information about the debit on my account and explained that the violets were worse than last year. Got excuses hard to control and he wished I had been told when they sold me the contract. Explained the neighbor had same problem and was with a different company and their problem now controlled.
He said he would come out and have a couple of applications of weed control to correct the problem. Sprayed 1 time, no charge, however the next time weed control was done I was charged as 1 of my regular applications. TruGreen also came out to do an assessment of my lawn and stated I needed fertilizer and the weeds were under control. After several calls about the charge issue and promises it would be taken care of and someone would call me back, I took all of my documents to the local office on a Monday.
Again promised that I would be credited back to my account within 2 days. Friday drove to local office again and was told my account was already credited. Nothing in my account as yet complained about treatment for weeds and not fertilized. Said would send someone out. Also said never received credit for my daughter's referral. Was told would be taken care of also? In reviewing my applications, it appears that the weed emergent was not put on twice in the spring as it was done the previous year.

Trugreen switched to centralized screening of all existing customers having them call 614-431-0825 which is re-routed to Missouri. The contact at this number will not give out the local offices' (Columbus OH) telephone number as they state it is against company policy.
As a valued prepaying customer ($2000.00 per year) I cannot tolerate the bureaucracy to get local support for my residence in a day or two. After reading all the complaints filed against Trugreen, I believe this is their corporate tactic to insulate themselves from taking any action to any matter, especially as it deals with money issues.
In my most recent case, I had $421.66 charges for pruning my trees and shrubs. I received an explicit estimate in writing, but when the work was done, the servicemen failed (overlooked) to prune a large ash which was itemized at $75.00.
I brought this to the attention of the customer serviceman and reminded him three times over several weeks that I did not receive a credit for the $75.00 work not done. (I excused Trugreen from making a special trip back to finish the work. )
In the meantime, I did manage to obtain the unlisted local phone number for the Columbus office, and again reported the matter as I had not received a credit. The original work was quoted on 5-28-10 and work partially done on 6-4-10. Today is 7-23-10 and I have not received credit.
Class Action Material. The company policy on the website states that if the customer is not satisfied, then Trugreen will reimburse the client for 100% of the treatment. In this case I may be due the entire $424.66 for this job.

I immediately cancelled our service with the company and gave them a detailed reason. To date I have not been given any explanation for this incorrect billing. I wrote and called and have now been turned over to collections. Their last letter says that I have not responded to their request for payment. I sent my last letter to them the day it was received when I was given 5 days to respond.
I have now written to the collection agency and am hoping that this will be resolved. To make matters worse, a new salesman came to our door last week offering me lawn treatments for $45.00 per month. I told him about my problem with his company but he wasn't interested. I would not recommend this company to anyone, as I feel they are dishonest and do not stand behind what they say.

We were scheduled for a lawn service, and due to high demand, Nate (one of the managers) came out to perform the service. We were not going to be home, so we unlocked the gate to our backyard to allow Nate enter while we were gone. Upon our return later that afternoon, we discovered extensive damage to our wooden gate. The wood holding the hinges was split, causing the gate to drop and not open.
Additionally, the two large bolts holding the latch mechanism were ripped out of the wood. The gate was rigged to look normal, but it wasn't. After several phone calls to customer service, we were told that Nate found the gate that way, and that TruGreen would not repair the gate. His story is ludicrous, and had he truly found the gate in that condition, he should have called us on our cell phones to report the damage and not entered the back yard.

The quality of their service has changed drastically in the past year or so, as in very bad. They play games with your yard, not quite getting all the weeds and spraying only parts of your yard. They talk a good story about "fixing" the problems, but keep stringing you along, like selling you a used car. In talking to the field supervisors, it became obvious that the Ellenwood location, at least, Is running off the white employees and replacing them with blacks, mostly immigrant blacks. We're tired of their games with our yard.

I accepted a pay by application agreement from these clowns at $40 per application front and sides. When I got a call from their billing dept. they tried to collect $300+ for all 8 treatments they said I needed back in May 2010 and it is now the middle of July and I have not seen or heard from them again and I did not pay up front. I told them let's see your guaranteed results that you promise and I'll pay per treatment. How are they going to squeeze in 7 more treatments before fall? Exactly! They're not because I'm cancelling their wonderful no service and see if they come on my property after cancellation. Stay away from this outfit.
They are as shady as hovering storm clouds and obviously just as unreliable. What's funny is they will come all of the time to spray all of my surrounding neighbors' yards but skip right over mine and when I called July 15, 2010 to cancel they all of a sudden had me scheduled for tomorrow! What a load of **! They had the nerve to ask me if I've seen the results that have been promised. Uhh hello I said your company showed up 1 time to kill weeds but they came back because my further apps were ignored which tells me that he was clearly reading from a company script! I'll give my money to the more reliable tried and true lawn care chemical products.

In 2009, my husband had TruGreen apply lawn chemicals to our lawn. The service was in his name. Later in the year, my husband passed away. In 2010, I did not want the lawn service any longer. In the spring, I came home from work and found that a treatment had been applied. I telephoned the company to say that I never contracted for the service and that my husband was not alive to renew the service. I was told it automatically renewed. I told them I would not be paying because I never signed for any service of any type. I have been harassed too much by the company and I have explained too many times that I never signed a contract for service. I am sick and tired of their attitude, snide remarks and billing practices. Now, they are turning it over to a collection agency.

I am being billed for work that's not done. There's a 40+ year old hedge being destroyed and some growth dead from no spraying for scale. I was not home when they came but the evidence is clear that they did not look at my customer file for directions. They promised to send someone in management to evaluate the loss but sent one of the trucks/drivers instead, ignoring my request for an appointment.
There was no manager who came at the time they scheduled it. The scale is decimating 40 inches or more of the hedge with 4 or 5 plants totally dead. The truck driver said he was sent to treat my pear tree and to ring the doorbell. I have neither a pear tree or a door bell.
He likely would have gone away if I had not been home. He looked at the damage and did spray but very overdue. I told him that I would not pay but now fear they could do damage to my credit rating along with my property. I will call again and ask for a manager but my hope is diminishing.
Any help would be appreciated. I am on a limited budget since my husband died and am 75 years old. At least 4, maybe 5 bushes have died. My payments for the last year have been for nothing. They are not responsive or fulfilling the contract. God bless your work.

I had a representative who could not wait to solicit TruGreen's services. That was in March, and it is now July, and my lawn has chinch bugs for which I paid $45.60 for treatment. Obviously, the technician did not treat it, if at all. At the same time, I received a bill for $45.60. I tried for four days to contact the Jacksonville office. "For an existing customer, press #2." There's no answer.
Of course, when I finally got hold of a call center representative, who was helpful, they told me that they were understaffed in that office. I cancelled the service on 06/23/2010 and spoke to David. I find out today with a card from TruGreen and also a lawn quality inspector that I have a service for tomorrow. What part of "I've cancelled the service." do they not understand?
When I told Tiffany, in Jacksonville office, that my lawn was dying, she said it takes time and that when I signed up, I signed up for nine treatments, including that for chinch bugs. Well, when I signed up, I expected the problem to be taken care of. I would not recommend this lawn service to anyone. And in fact, I was warned by a few people not to go with them in the first place. I just wished I would have listened. My lawn has chinch bugs, and I will probably have to replace certain areas of my lawn.

I asked to speak to a manager, then another representative came on the phone and repeat the same information. I asked him that I speak to another manager or give me a number, and he stated there was no one else and he would not give me another number; "he is it."
They did not care to hear the condition of my lawn for which I paid to put in over $1200 for a new sod. Now, I must find someone else to try to correct their lack of service. I owed $45 and would pay them if they would just handle the problem. (I have paid them $225 to date!)

I had a lawn service contract with Chemlawn for 2 years. Since I had a full time job and attended school, I felt this would take a load off of maintaining the sod that I had just installed. I talked to the service representative before committing and explained that I had centipede sod in the front yard and fescue grass in the back. He assured me that this would not present a problem. Well, it did and the technician came and applied whatever treatment to both lawns. This killed the centipede lawn, but the fescue thrived.
Again, I called the service representative and after many unanswered calls, he returned my call and came out to see the lawn. My centipede lawn was dead in several spots. He agreed to aerate and reseed the front lawn. Six weeks and I still have mess with several bald spots. He did not use any straw to prevent runoffs on the inclines. I had chosen to install sod because of these elevations and I knew the seeds would not work. Also, I have a tall wild grass growing that does not resemble centipede at all.
My lawn is a disaster. I am the only person on my street with a lawn service and I have the worst yard of all. The money and time I invested in establishing this lawn has all been wasted. I cannot get any one to return my calls and I canceled my service because they would not let me know when they were coming so I could be home to be sure my instructions for treating the lawn were being followed.

We hired TruGreen a couple of years ago. Our lawn has gone downhill ever since we have been using them. Last year, they called approximately 1/3 of our lawn. Luckily, I had pictures on my computer of there being grass all over before we hired them. When I called to complain, first they brought out trays of grass plugs for me to plant myself. I should have never done it but I did in the Florida heat! I had been having serious back issue and suffered for weeks due to the bending over to plant the plugs. Those didn’t make it so they ended up sod all the grass they had killed.
Spring rolls around, again 1/3 of the lawn is dead. Plus our lawn is full of crabgrass and weeds, which they supposedly treated with a pre-emergent so it would not be a problem. They lie and cheat! Of course, I called and fired them. I am considering asking for my money back for the last 6 months of service too! Do not hire this company!

I applied for a position as Telemarketing Solicitor with Tru Green on June 11, 2010. I was notified at 5:55PM and scheduled for and had an interview with John on June 17, 2010. At the conclusion of that interview, I was told that I was a favorable candidate to be trained for this position and within the next two days a second interview would be scheduled with John's boss.
On June 18, 2010, I received a telephone call from a man who identified himself as Mel. I was asked if I had interviewed, whom I had interviewed with and he stated that he would be meeting with John. I was never told this was a telephone interview. I was never told exactly who Mel might be. On June 21, 2010, after some substantial searching, I found the phone number for the Lewis Center location. I called and left a message for John to return my call. I called again, 2 hours later. I spoke with John and he led me to believe that Mel had been in meetings all morning but he would be meeting with him shortly.
My next contact was an email that I received stating that my interest was appreciated but they would be further looking for someone to fill this position. I have 32 years office experience; more than 1/2 of that time was as a receptionist and talking with customer and vendors. This is a position that this company does the training. How can you not be qualified? When asked if I would have a problem with a background check going back 10 years, I replied that in my previous employment we were fingerprinted and background checks.
When you have no job, any setback in your search for employment is devastating. When you are promised a second interview, you should receive it, it shouldn't matter whether it is face to face or over the phone but you should at least be told whom you are speaking with and that it is indeed an interview. What changed? The fact that I called this company to try and figure out where I was in the system? Was it because I'm 58 years old? I just feel that this was a very poor way of dealing with a person and these two men are the ones that do the hiring and training on how to treat their customers? If they treat their customers like they do candidates for employment, I wonder how they got to be tops in this business.

He said their guy mixed the chemicals wrong and basically killed our grass.
We just had 26 pallets of beautiful plush Bremuda sod laid which cost us $6000.00 and $400.00 to water it for 30 days! I called several times starting at the end of April, and continued to call each week through May. Three times they told me I was scheduled for treatment that day, but guess who never showed.
Now I have called and told them I don't want them to treat my lawn, and that I would like a refund. At the end of the year, the Trugreen representative called and asked me to renew for this year. I stated that I was moving. I live in a mobile home, on rented land, and that once I put this mobile up for sale that I would not continue any more the basic 4 treatments per year, but that I would give them a call when my new home was built and would transfer service there.
At the beginning of this year, Trugreen called and again, I stated that I did not want anything more than the 4 treatments per year that I will be moving soon. Sure enough, last week, the guy shows up, treats the lawn and leaves me with two bills, one for the regular treatment ($38.25) and one for a special grub control treatment ($76.50).
When I took the bill off the door knob, I called the company, told them about my conversations with "Lisa" in which I specifically stated at least 3 times that I did not want the grub control treatment but they came and did it anyway and left me the bill. She asked if she could call me right back, and I said "No." I was getting ready to eat dinner, but right in the middle of dinner, someone called me back to say they'd look into it.
Meanwhile, they have my debit card number and it will cost me not only the $78.25 they've already stolen from me, but an additional $30 each time I try to stop payment on future fraudulent charges, if I manage to see the charge pending in my online banking statement before it's paid. How can I stop these thieves from continuing to force "services" on me that I have said that I do not want?

I was given a "Current Lawn Analysis" that also included the actual measurements of the actual grass areas. It showed a total of 5611 sq ft, though the true measurements are some 5200 sq ft. I then decided to contact TruGreen to perform the same identical services. The prices were a little lower than Scotts.
So, I hired them and asked for a "Current Lawn Analysis" like Scotts gave me. That was some 2 weeks ago, and still no sheet from them showing me anything about my lawn. Now, after calling them some 4/5 times and requesting the above and wanting to know when my service would begin and that if it was not started within the next 5 days, I would cancel and do it myself! Well, the service was performed 2 days later! But here is the kicker. When the technician left, I was given a slip showing me what he'd done (as I have already prepaid for the whole year). That is when I noticed that the slip showed that he had treated 10,000 sq ft! That is what I am being charged for some 4800 sq ft of land that I don't even own!
Bottom line, before you pay for anything from TruGreen, make sure that they give you a written contract that shows everything that is to be done as well as have then measure your lot in front of you and not pay for work that is not being done! We signed up with TruGreen at the end of summer 2009 because our yard was suffering slightly from a dry summer and the grass was a little yellow. And our St. Augustine was being overtaken by bermuda. Thought we would get it winter ready and allow the root system to strengthen, so our lawn would come back nicely come spring. They said they aerated and seeded with St. Augustine right away. Of course the lawn went dormant and brown which would be expected for winter. But then large areas of the lawn went completely bare or too dirty.
Phoned in late Feb or early March to let them know that much of the grass was not just dormant but completely gone. The entire section between our driveway and the neighbors lawn did not have one blade of grass so TruGreen put new sod down. Although they barely went half way up the drive. We put sod down on the rest of that section at our own expense. That grass has come back strong. But the entire front yard is now either completely void of grass or very sparse and what grass there is it is yellow.
But instead of putting more grass down in the bare spots, they just keep putting chemicals on our dirt. They killed most of the grass in our front yard but could not kill the weeds in the back yard which is covered in weeds and bermuda grass and barely any St Augustine left. They have begged us to let them make it right by giving free service but it is only making it worse. The manager came out personally and told us to purchase top soil to cover all the bald spots. So in addition to the charges we had for TruGreen service now they want us to go out and purchase soil and spread it ourselves. To this day don't know why instead of giving us free chemical service every other week, they didn't just come out and fill in the bare spots with new sod. It would all be green by now.
Every other yard in our neighborhood that has not been under professional lawn care is full and green. I am so disappointed that I told my husband that next year I want to completely kill off the backyard and re-sod the entire thing because the weeds and bermuda have overtaken our back yard. Of course that would cost a fortune. They have no idea what they are doing. We will be lucky if the yard fills back in before next winter. I would never recommend them to anyone. When I phone to cancel, the guy told me he spoke to the manager and the manager had told them to cancel. Before we actually canceled. Guess they got tired of my complaints. I guess he was accepting defeat and realized they could not do anything to improve our lawn without replacing the whole darned thing. What a mess.

TruGreen was called to fix a mole-cricket problem in our lawn last year and to try to stop encroachment of centipede from our neighbors. We have Bermuda 419. The lawn, before mole-crickets, was beautiful. This year, it looks awful thin, not growing. I have called several times to have a rep or supervisor to call me with no return call. Lawn is in poor condition, may need to be replaced if problem continues.

We are not even TruGreen customers, our neighbors are and we have now had two very disturbing instances with TruGreen. We came home one day to a blue dog. Now, I am sure that he was barking at the TruGreen guy, but the dog was covered snout to tail in blue (we have pictures). When we called the company to complain and explain that the actual property line is about 15 feet from the chain link fence, they told us that it must have been a result of wind carrying the overspray. We spoke to multiple managers who assured us that the dog was not intentionally sprayed.
They can never seem to stop spraying where the grass ends. It is constantly all over the sidewalk. Several months after the dog incident, our 16 month old son was playing on the sidewalk and got some of the chemical granules on a toy. He, of course, put it in his mouth as I made a mad dive to get it away from him. We immediately called TruGreen to try to determine what he had just ingested. After 45 minutes of being transferred, insulted and put on hold by their service reps, we were finally told it was "just fertilizer." I was begging, pleading, cursing and crying to get the information. They would not tell us what it was because we were not the customer.
Poison control could not advise us what to do without knowing the substance and compound. On the third call to TruGreen, we finally got someone that was willing to help. My son was fine but I am convinced that a company that does not care about where they spray their chemicals will not give away "proprietary" information in a potentially life altering situation and is just plain rude is not worth paying for. We were promised a call back from the local manager and a corporate manager and by no surprise, have yet to receive one. Besides that, the neighbor's yard does not look that good. They have all sorts of weeds and dead spots.

Paid for 1 year of service with very little improvement in yard. They would never call my husband on his cell phone to notify what approx time they would arrive so he could meet them. We called a dozen times just to complain about this issue and other customer service. At the end of the contract, I cancelled. Within 2 weeks, the manager called and asked my husband to let them do a couple extra treatments at no charge to see if they could improve anything. In April, they finally got the number correct and called my husband about a past due balance! He informed them we did not owe anything. I called today 5-11-2010 to confirm our account was cancelled in February. Yes, it was however, the manager reactivated the account and they claimed we owe $181.00 for March and April service! Haaa! LOL!

The field agent's actual work and billing is not in-sync. This is the 2nd time I call them and get the same type of bad customer service from the office staff. I have no complaints with the field agents for they are very professional and courteous. However, the office staff at TruGreen are very unprofessional and lack people skills. The consequence is an over charge of $45.00 and I’m waiting for a charge card credit.

I contacted TruGreen in March 2010 to apply the first treatment to both my front and back lawns. I was given a one time discount special of $52.00 for weed control and $180.00 for aeration which was declined! After the initial treatment, I immediately contacted customer service and reported my backyard was not completely sprayed and was also informed by the customer service per the driver to "Look Again". I advised her to tell him it was not fully sprayed because I was looking at a higher angle.
The driver returned to my home to explain it would take 7-14 days before any signs of weeds dying but was assured he did spray and to wait for the allotted time. On day 15, another dissatisfied call was placed to TruGreen. I informed the customer service representative my weeds were not dying as reported but in fact loving the chemicals because they were growing, not showing any signs of dying. I was informed another driver would return to the home for free treatment. I was told this time the weeds would begin to die in 21-25 days. This driver quoted yet another price for aeration treatment around $148.00. Service was still declined for aeration. Still another call was placed to TruGreen about the weeds and product used and how nothing was happening to the weeds in my backyard. Customer service reviewed the guarantee policy since she could hear how unhappy I was and sent a 3rd driver to the home. He also stated as the others that he would be the one to personally take care of my lawn then quoted a new price of $100.00 for aeration of my lawn which I considered. I waited 3-5 day as told to see if the procedure would work. I returned another call to the company complaining and asked to verify the mailing address for the online payment. At this point I simply wanted to pay the $52.00 and close the account. The customer service representative was not able to verify the account address for the company she was employed with.
The next week or so, I received a statement in my door from TruGreen and was able to stop the driver prior to his services. He was preparing to conduct service for the $180.00 aeration as well as $72.00 for lime treatment, which was previously declined. I contacted the office and could not be informed who had authorized for treatment since I did not. Then later that afternoon, I received a $72.00 bill for the services they preformed on my property. I attempted several times to resolve this issue and to date no manager will return my call. I did receive a call from another customer service representative stating the policy for TruGreen was that I would need to purchase the complete package and have numerous treatments before any weeds would begin to die. I attempted to explain this was yet again different than what I had been informed and at this point to simply cancel my service with the company and remove the charge. Once again, I asked to speak with a manager and even called back to the company after my call and still no manager. I’m very unhappy with TruGreen!

I negotiated a contract with TruGreen by phone last year (2009). TruGreen encouraged me to include added fertilizing of shrubs in the back yard. TruGreen's fertilizing man arrived but told me that he could not fertilize shrubs and that it would hurt the shrubs, etc. but never refunded money paid for fertilizing shrubs. I told them I did not want to renew the contract for 2010. They phoned three times at the end of year, pleading for me to renew the contract, which I declined to do.
At one time, a man claiming he was president of TruGreen company phoned me. Then, I discovered early this year that TruGreen already started the 2010 fertilizing lawn program. When I asked why, their reply was that I failed to cancel TruGreen's contract (written in fine print at the bottom of lawn fertilizing report).
I am 84 years old and my eyes are not that great, but this makes no difference to TruGreen. TruGreen said that they would continue to fertilize my lawn. I contracted our town's police for help and they had the lawn contract cancelled. Thank heavens for our town police. I continue to get monthly notices to pay for this year's fertilizing treatment that I never wanted.
I was advised by a lawyer to check the credit card statements for possible charges by TruGreen. TruGreen is an irreparable company and should be prevented from doing business in MA. A totally irresponsible company, sad to say. They have caused me considerable aggravation, mental torment, and loss of sleep dealing with this crazy situation.

I am sorry if this offends you but I am absolutely tired of your company and it's promises to do something to repair a severely damaged lawn since November 2009. I paid up front for 12 months lawn treatment service in November, only on the promise that would work to get out lawn back from brown to green but you have failed to deliver anything remotely looking like customer service.
We have been promised plugs in our lawn by Greg and yourself at the Fort Myers branch but now, you are saying you are sending someone to check the lawn. It doesn't need checking, any fool can see there is a major problem and you are doing nothing about it! We want service, first class customer service. Just because we are British owners living in England it doesn't mean we should be treated like idiots! I have worked 24/7 for years to be able to afford a second home and we paid thousands of dollars for our lawn to be put down, but it seems your company just doesn't care as long as you get the money that's all that matters. Well, I am sorry if I'm old fashioned, I believe good business starts with first class customer service and I am not just going to sit back and be flicked away like some pesky fly.
It is clear that there is absolutely no leadership in your company and no one making decisions. The economy is tough, everything is tough but it doesn't mean you treat customers with contempt and a consumer has to just sit there and take bad service. I would like the plugs, as promised in my front and back lawn within 7 days or our money for the year's treatment repaid in full plus compensation. If I hear nothing, I will post photos of our lawn and my comments on your service on Youtube and every internet site, every press site I can find, I will also write and phone. The photos are the front of the villa photo is early 2009 and the other photo is our front lawn after paying for 12 months of tender loving care from Trugreen. What more can I say?!

They pulled the voice recorded conversation up, with my husband "authorizing" the service. However, it was a foreigner that could barely speak English. We first used TruGreen last year, prepaid for the year. They did come faithfully, and we did notice that we had fewer weeds, though the weeds were not completely killed. The lack of weeds left bare spots, so we paid extra for them to aerate and re-seed. We were told to water every day, which we did. The new grass started coming in beautifully, and we were impressed. This year, we have twice as many weeds as last year, the grass has not come in, and we have nothing but dirt throughout most of the yard. We received the bill to prepay our service again this year. I called them to explain that we were not satisfied with our lawn and we would not be paying for this year's service until someone came out to inspect our lawn and discuss why it had not grown. We never got a call back, tried calling several more times, and finally called corporate headquarters. We did then receive a call from Fayetteville, and he promised to come out to inspect our lawn.
It has been three weeks since we spoke to him, we cannot get anyone on the phone in Fayetteville, and today, when we called corporate again, we were transferred to an answering service. The phone call was made at 4:00, their hours are until 5:30, so obviously they are not taking calls. They have sent us a bill for $170 for lime we supposedly received, and I am not paying it because the service was never received. Neither will I renew with them. Of course, I couldn't renew even if I wanted to, because we can't get anyone to call us back! I'm guessing they have cancelled our service because we have received no treatments this year so far, though they have billed us for a lime treatment, as I mentioned before. I would imagine they will begin harassing us for the $170, but I remain firm that I will not pay for a service I have not received.

I have a backyard vineyard of 110 vines. Last year, I noticed herbicide damage in June. I found out from the City that TruGreen had a contract to spray the Little league ball fields. My property is adjacent to one of these fields. John **, Commercial Services Manager with TruGreen came out and looked at my vines and verified herbicide damage. He did an investigation around the neighborhood and informed me that it looked like a neighbor may have been the guilty party and not TruGreen. This year, in an effort to monitor their activity, I personally went to the ball fields 4 different times on Friday, April 23, 2010. This was the day TruGreen was to make application to the fields.
At no time did I see anyone on the fields. Also, there were no postings anywhere indicating treatment had been made. Mr. ** informed me that the technician was there between the times I visited the fields and said he talked to the technician and the technician told him that posting had been done. This is a lie. Mr ** told me he believed his technician and therefore indicated that I was lying. The ball fields are adjacent to the high school and junior high school. Some states do not permit pesticide applications this close to schools. Unfortunately, Maryland is not one of them. I would never use this company for anything. I had some herbicide damage to grape vines.

The tech stated that it was a "winter kill" that damaged my lawn, even though my neighbors did not have their lawns die. I have used Trugreen for years, and have always found their services to work very well for my needs. It's now spring, and I haven't seen them around, so I called to find out what was up, and when my service would be started for the season. I was informed that my service had been canceled because I had been 4 months behind in payments, and my account had been turned over to collections, but is current. I was flabbergasted!
I have always paid on a monthly schedule, and once in awhile might allow the payment for the service to go 45 days, and once in a great while to 60 days, but never ever that long. That has just never happened. I told the person on the phone that can't be possible, and I was told that Trugreen is correct, and I am not. I started to get into it with the person on the phone because of her totally rude attitude. She cut me off and told me that she refused to argue with me, and that she was correct. I asked for all the bills over the last year, and told her that I would review them against my own files.
The rep basically told me to do "whatever", but that Trugreen was right. I told her that if I find it isn't right, I may contact an attorney. She said, "whatever" and then asked why I cared because the account was current. I then asked her if the account was current, then why was it cancelled, and she cut me off again. I also told her it's the principle of the matter, and I don't want my credit dinged when there was an obvious billing problem on their part. I asked her to send those past bills and payments to me in email, she said that Trugreen doesn't have email. Really? Does she think people are that stupid?
I asked her to send out the information today, and she said the mailman had already come for the day. I had to ask when would I get that information. She would send it out when she could get to it. I also told her that if I did start my service with them again, I didn't want them calling all hours of the day and night to harass me for payments that I hadn't even received an invoice for yet. She cut me off and said that if I was responsible and paid my bills on time, I wouldn't need to be harassed.
I reiterated that these phone calls were for treatments that I had received just days earlier, and she wouldn't listen, and cut me off saying that obviously I wasn't making my payments on time. I figured I wasn't going to get anywhere, and thought maybe she was having a bad day. But I really got more angry as I thought about it today. I then got a call from the service person this evening to start up my service, and I was told that Trugreen will no longer accept checks for services rendered, and that all customers must give them a credit card which will be charged 1 to 2 days after the service is complete.
It's either that, or pay for the year upfront. After all these years, and after what I've gone through, Trugreen has lost another customer forever. I cannot continue to work with a company that obviously doesn't have customer service as a high priority, and seems to take their long-time customers completely for granted. So, I started doing some checking online, and it seems I'm not the only one to have billing issues, and harassing phone calls for payments not even due yet. And now I have to check my credit to see if I've been dinged because of an error. If so, they will be hearing from an attorney.

I waited for 48 hours. Still, nothing was accomplished. No phone calls, no treatment, no visits from anyone. I called again on April 13th, explained again how I felt a treatment was never accomplished back on April 3rd. I was told again that a service call would be placed again but nothing happened. I called again on April 16th, and told the lady to cancel my service. I explained how I felt that I was ripped off and added that their customer service was very poor. I had to go running downstairs and outside in the rain in my pajamas to stop him.
When I told him he had the wrong house he doubted me. He would not tell me the address he was supposed to actually be at and asked if my husband was home. How condescending is that? I have told the salesman that go door to door numerous times to stop littering my front porch with their info. I've called them numerous times asking to be taken off their mailing list. They don't listen. From reading some of the other complaints on this board I'm not surprised. Even if I had ordered their service I would have stopped him since it was raining at the time. Beware of doing business with this company. Do not trust them.
I signed up with TruGreen on 8/18/09 and have had nothing but problems. On 9/11 they came and aerated and seeded my lawn. I was present for this and when they were done I was given three invoices. When I sat down and read them, one was for 18 lbs of fertilizer, cost $57.78 (this was never applied). When I called they said it was a mistake and that I will receive my next treatment for free. I also said that I would not be paying the invoice for fertilizer.
The next time my lawn was treated, 10/23, the new service tech put down weed control and fertilizer and told me that I should have the lawn aerated and seeded. They did this six weeks ago. I called and they came out and aerated and seeded again. In December after I received a letter from my credit card company stating that TruGreen told them the $57.78 disputed charge had been worked out and that I would pay it, I have had enough.
I paid the bill and canceled TruGreen just to be rid of them. Stupidly I was talked back into doing business by Rick **. I was promised the following: the first two treatments for free, aeration and seeding in the fall for free, and after the first two applications Rick would come back and see if I was satisfied. On 3/25/10, the first application for 20 lbs of fertilizer was applied and I received an invoice for no charge. So far so good. On 4/6 (12 days later), I received another invoice stating that another 20 lbs of fertilizer was applied at no charge.
When I called Rick and asked what was going on, he told me that additional fertilizer had not been put down and that this new invoice was actually for the 3/26 application. I told him that this did not make any sense and he told me this was not brain surgery. At this point I told him to cancel my service. I would rather give up the additional free application, aeration and seeding, than put up with this company.

On March 22nd I called and left a message to ask when they would be servicing my lawn. BTW, you have to leave a message because you can never get anyone on the phone. The message states what their hours of operations are, and whether you're calling within those hours or not, you are prompted to call back during those hours. ** and amateurish. On 23 March Mike left a message on my answering machine to state that my yard would be serviced on the 24th. The 24th was a dry, sunny day. No service. I gave them a few days, and called back on the 2nd of April.
I received a call back from Mike stating no explanation for the lack of service, but promising if I gave him one more chance he promised the yard would get treated on the 5th or, at the latest, the 6th. No service again. I called and left Mike a message on the 9th to tell Mike I wanted to cancel the service. He called the 10th and tried once again to promise that my yard would be serviced on Monday.
Finally I got him to acknowledge that he understood my message and my intent to cancel my service. I can't comment on their ability to kill weeds and green up a lawn, they would've had to show up first. I am now faced with getting a refund, and finding another service or doing it myself, and now my yard is nothing but a mass of weeds.

Have subscribed to their lawn and shrub care treatments for just over one year. Lawn condition appeared to improve at first, with diminished infestation of weeds. I continued to receive these treatments all through the Winter months to prevent re-infestation of weeds. But with the advent of Spring, all the beds beneath the shrubs and back lawn are totally weed infested, and there is some evidence of return of weeds out front.
On top of this, I have been continually harassed by agents calling to tell me charges for current treatments are in arrears when I haven't even received a bill in the mail. I have not paid individual front door invoices because I have continually asked them to bill me for both programs at once, not separately, by mail. Apparently, this is too complex a request for them fulfill. Called two days ago for someone to come out and look at the weeds. Never received a callback.
On top of this, I received another harassing call demanding payment of charges for last treatment (prior to receiving bill in the mail, once again). That was the last straw! Today, I called their "800" number and terminated the contract effective immediately. At least when I told the agent on the other end of the line. I never want them to set foot on my property again, she immediately gave me a confirmation number of the cancellation.
Well, I've spent a sizeable amount of money to improve condition of my shrubs and remove the weeds from my lawn. All through the summer last year, I experienced severe die-back of many of my shrubs. The yard man informed me the root systems were infested with mealy worms. How should that happen when I have paid them for a year to spray chemicals on them to stimulate growth and prevent parasites?
Each time, they would leave a note after shrub treatment, the service employee left comment: "Your shrubs look great." I think they are half dead and look terrible. No one should employ this company. Today, I visited your website and saw all the other consumer complaints similar to mine, two of which were registered in my immediate area. Buyer beware!

I have been a customer of TruGreen for many years and have several different accounts with them. In years past, they provided a good service, however, since their merger with Service Magic, the level of quality service has been in a steady decline. I canceled all of our services with them in October 2009 as we have no need for their winter service. In February 2010, they claim they provided a lawn treatment but there was no evidence of this, as they generally place signs as treatment takes place. But of most importance, is the fact that the property was sold in November 09 and there was no authorization for the service in the first place.
Since February 2010, they have been calling me constantly day and night in relation to a $30.00 charge, for the service they claim to have provided and without authorization. I have spoken to them on the phone a minimum of 11 times. I disputed the claim and they have said they would clear the matter. I have also spoken with their accounts receivable manager on two different occasions with a verbal apology and stating that he would clear the matter immediately, it has not been cleared. As they record your conversation, I felt it to be in my best interest to also record our conversation, but they hung up stating that they could not have their message recorded.
Another issue comes to surface, I have always had my AmEx charge card debited, fortunately for me, the card they had on file expired in December 2009, and that is the reason they are now billing me. I fully intend to cancel all services with TruGreen and Service Magic. Problems like this can be avoided with much smaller local businesses. Only mental anguish from the constant calls. I want the account cleared right away.

Now, the calls are turning into an attempt to trick me into agreeing they will start spring services so they can come out and start treatments to the yard. I've stated that to my knowledge, we haven't contracted services with them and that they will need to talk to my husband, but due to the number of calls we continue to receive, I'm concerned they may attempt to treat the lawn and make claims we have instructed them to do so when that is not the case.
The last call received was after 6PM today and when I explained my husband wasn't here and they would have to call back next week, they again began the we're starting our Spring services and can come out next week routine. He also was surprised that I had not received any phone calls before the letters started.
Well, the problem was not solved. I continued to receive late payment notices and then a collection letter. I called the person who had signed the letter, asked why there was a problem as I had called earlier and explained I was doing what I did every year; payment in full by 3/31. First she denied sending me the letter, became argumentative about the letter and said she hadn't received any email from customer service. I finally got fed up and told them to cancel the service and to send me a refund. Yes, unfortunately my payment, in full, had gone out electronically the day before. My complaint comes from the fact that at no point was there any apology for their errors and they didn't care that I got fed up and cancelled. The fact that over the next 25 years, my business was worth over $20,000 and they had just lost it didn't seem to concern them at the local and the national office. I'm glad that somebody in this economy can afford to disregard their customers.

I have been billed for Lawn Round 8 and paid twice for it. When I called, the representative, Shawna, declared that I was owing $30. I replied that I believed that they owed me for over payment. She put me on hold 2 times and was going to put me on hold the 3rd time when I asked for the business address here in Dallas where I could meet and discuss my bill. She then looked at my bill and said they owed me $50 for over payment. I asked how that could be when she had just told me that I owed them $30? She wanted to put me on hold again. Then she said that they had done another treatment and they were crediting my account with the overpayment of $50. I feel there is a problem with this company and their billing.

On March 10, 2010, I called and talked with Lindsey, regarding having grubs in my backyard again. They are in the same area as last year. Last year on March 31, 2009, TruGreen came and treated my yard for grubs. I believe they did a spot treatment only. This was told to me by the TruGreen tech, Eric, who came by and inspected my lawn on Thursday, March 11, 2010. After showing Eric the grubs, and the damaged areas I had dug up, Eric did not treat my yard. Instead he said he would need to verify with the office, and his supervisor, and call me later that evening, which he did.
Eric called me that evening, about 6:15PM, and told me he would be up to treat my yard on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 4:50 PM. On March 18, 2010, Eric called me, and told me he was too busy, and had too many calls, and would not get to my yard on the 18th, because it was almost 5:00 Pm. I said that would be fine, and asked when he will be here to treat the yard. Eric told me he would come treat my yard on Friday morning, March 19, 2010. As of 3:30 PM, Eric has not shown up.
At 3:00 PM, I called again, and talked with a man by the name of Tracy. Once again, I had to explain every last detail of my trying to get a treatment, because they said it was not the time of year for grubs. I do not believe the grubs operate by the calendar. Tracy told me I was scheduled for March 24th. It sounds to me like someone with the TruGreen people needs to coordinate better. I am truly frustrated with TruGreen and their performance. I was told I would be taken care of, and this is not the case. TruGreen needs to do a better job of taking care of their customers, and being more responsible in their work ethics. I am concerned about my yard, and having to spend a lot of money to replace the grass.

About 2-3yrs ago, I signed up for a treatment for our front lawn for "early weed control pre-emergent." That had changed to the company treating our front lawn regularly for weed control, etc. I extended the contract to include our backyard. I questioned them heavily about the safety of their products around children and dogs. They have a dog logo on their vehicles. They assured me it was safe but to be sure, to maintain the kids and the animals off the yard for several hours if I had concerns.
They were to notify me when they were going to be out to treat the lawns so that I could make sure our three labs could be safe inside. They never notified me of the treatment times. On one occasion several months ago, a technician came into our gated backyard and surprised the dogs who of course were upset because of the demeanor of this man. So before my eyes, he sprayed my labs in the face in an effort to make them retreat.
Any lab owner out there can agree they were protecting the kids and all they did was bark. They would have done nothing else. I ran outside and yelled and took my dogs inside to wash their eyes and faces. I yelled at the guy who then yelled back at me. I called the local TruGreen and had her read to me what the instructions for my account were. She stated that "I was to be notified to backyard treatment to secure animals and children."
I explained to her what happened and she was surprised! I canceled any further treatment to the backyard, left explicit instructions to "treat the front and sides only!" Today, while picking up my downstairs, my labs were going crazy. I had just let them out to the backyard. There in my backyard was a TruGreen technician spraying the backyard with the dogs right there!
I yelled at him to get out. He apologized repeatedly. However, I called the local branch back and asked them to read the instructions on my account and it states to treat "front and sides only." The technician stated they didn't tell him that they just give him square footage. I canceled all the service and requested a letter stating such ASAP. I would never trust them again. I guess if my four year old daughter was outside and started to cry. Maybe he would have sprayed her too. ***!
I do not know what damage this could have caused to be sprayed in the face with these chemicals, the long term affects, as far as safety. This kids and the dogs are quite clever. Although I am outside when my kids are out, when they have not latched the gate to the fence, dogs and kids have gotten out! Street is right there.

TruGreen did try their typical trick of doing service you never asked for and billing you for them. They are threatening me with legal and credit action. Even after multiple attempts of calling the company and explaining we never ordered the services they claim, and even telling them " you record your calls, find the recording with me agreeing to the service", I will pay for it. They never produced anything. Yet, they send 2 or 3 bills a week and calling multiple times. They tried this ** a few years ago when we were at another address and they finally dropped it. I have to imagine this unfair and deceptive tactic is ripping many people off. They claim you had this service the year before so we assumed you wanted again, and they say you ordered earlier in the year. Both, in my case, were outright lies.

There are two problems. The first is, after receiving lawn treatment, my lawn turned brown in a number of spots. The second problem is, I attempted to pay for service on company website. The day after doing so, I received email that the payment could not be processed. I then paid by check through the mail. Afterwards, I received a bill for returned check charge for $25. I did not bounce the check. The problem was not my fault. I have written to the office as well as called but yet I have received a number of phone calls and bills requesting payment. After reading through many pages of complaints here about Truebrown, it strikes me as odd that an employee would post here sticking up for the company. At one time I worked for this company and did not read a single complaint that I had not heard before a dozen times over. Do the math, a $1200 dollar a day quota with most applications in the 35 +- range. How much time does that leave the employee at each customer to do the job?
We were told "canned" responses to most customer complaint i.e. you didn't water enough, you watered too much, you mowed too soon, you mowed too late, you have the wrong type of grass for location, you watered too soon after application, you didn't water soon enough after application, on and on. I remember a field manager telling me once that "we are the Walmart of lawn care, you pay a little bit of money and get a little bit of service". I commented about the number of customer complaint calls I had to deal with that day and a manager told me "well you know a lot more people probably should call and complain but they don't".
Problems I witnessed often by employees eager to make their quotas include many of the practices listed in the complaints here. Hanging invoices on doorknobs with no service done is actually common enough. They have a term for it, "ghosting" invoices is what that is called. Ineffective materials used. Spraying the same property three times in one month and no weeds die. Was the product in my tanks just water? Was it so diluted as not to work? I never knew. If I tried to add product to the mix so that it would actually work, I ran the risk of getting fired on the spot. I could write a book about my nightmare experience working for Truebrown. My conscience finally got the better of me and I had to leave. I just couldn't stomach making a living by lying to customers and providing sub par service that I knew to be contradictory to what the customer really needed.

We have been using Trugreen Chemlawn for almost 20 years since 1991. In general, they did a good job with the "lawn" service. They started offering shrub service several years back, which we subscribed to. They did reasonable jobs for a few years, but in the 2008 winter, they had done a very poor job which resulted in significant burn damages to the shrubs. We have complained numerous times in Spring 2009. While the phone reps said they would notify the manager, nothing happened. When we try to bring this up again recently, the rep, Rose, was insisting they did the application and that's what matters, not the result. This type of response really frustrated me, the customer. This is poor shrub work and customer service.

We have had several instances during these years when we complained about the condition of our lawn and it has always been difficult to get any answers or actions on our complaints, but we have been very busy with our own business and lives that we tend to let it go. Beginning October 2009, I called the TrueGreen office that services our area, and left a message complaining about the really bad condition of our lawn, but no one either called me back or came to see the problem. Only when I called the corporation and spoke to someone there did I get a person to come see the lawn. He indicated they needed to do some treatments and since that date we have been invoiced for several visits and treatments but the lawn has gotten even worse.
I have called the local office several times in the past 4 weeks and left messages with the receptionist since no one else is said to be available. And to this date, 1-16-10, no one has called or come to see the disaster. On my last call to the local place on 1-13-10, I told the receptionist not to provide us any further treatments or services before someone called me and came to see the problem. Still no calls yet, so I have decided not to pay any of their pending two invoices and to make sure they never again do anything for us. I strongly suggest to others not to ever work with TruGreen. On December 9th, the company came out for service and left the receipt on the door for $29.95, which was an auto pay. Less than two weeks later, the company arrived again for another application for the regular price of $46. When I contacted the company to ask them why, the representative on the phone could not get his story straight. He asked whom I spoke with to confirm the application for the day in question. I was never called. And what does that matter!
He began to split hairs on what an application was and that I actually needed two for December. I asked why they could not do them at the same time. They stated that was not possible. I agreed to a once a month service and that's what I should have received! So in one month's time, I had two applications for over $70. It's almost as if the initial $29 application is an enticement and they will do the second application within the same month to meet the margin no matter what month you start the service. On November 28th, a TruGreen service person entered my gated backyard and began applying a chemical treatment to my lawn. This service was not authorized. We follow an organic lawn care routine and did not request any treatment whatsoever from TruGreen. We have never done business with them and did not give permission to have our lawn chemically treated. I am pregnant and have a 2-year-old child. I have made a specific conscious effort to avoid potentially dangerous chemicals such as those used by TruGreen and was furious to see the lawn where my child plays being doused in chemicals.
My family also eats organically and had planned a small backyard garden for the spring where we could grow our own organic produce. That is not possible now that my yard has been chemically treated. I noticed the TruGreen service person in my yard and rushed outside in my pajamas to stop the application. I received no apology or explanation. I called the TruGreen Corporate Office to file a complaint and was told a representative would return my call within 24 hours. That has not happened. The person I spoke with did apologize, but had a rather nonchalant attitude and attributed the application to mistaken address. I understand that not all addresses are clearly marked, but that is certainly not the case with my home.
It is disturbing to say the least that the service person that is responsible for handling and applying dangerous chemicals can't even be bothered to double check an address and that such irresponsibility and negligence is apparently acceptable. I understand that mistakes happen, but for someone who has invested the time, effort, and expense into organic lawn care, this mistake is devastating. Unfortunately, once applied, the chemical damage has been done and this mistake cannot be fixed. TruGreen needs to understand how serious this mistake is and they need to ensure that employees are better trained.

Without prior notice, a technician performed three services in one 15-minute $170-visit on June 10, 2009. TruGreen had never performed three services in one visit at any time in the previous years of my experience with the company. Additionally, two of the services performed on June 10 were not part of the limited-service, four-application program that I had agreed to and had been receiving in 2007 and 2008. My service plan was upgraded without my permission to the most comprehensive, most expensive service plan that TruGreen offers. I was never asked, notified, or given a chance to decline this service plan for 2009. I have copies of the service-plan confirmations from TruGreen for both 2007 and 2008. TruGreen never sent similar confirmation for the 2009 season.
Besides the letter of May 15, I also sent a letter of complaint to my credit card company and a copy of that letter to TruGreen on June 25, 2009. Again, I received no response from TruGreen. Yet, over the past few weeks, I have been called with increasing frequency by their outbound sales personnel, attempting to lure me back into a service plan with the company. These calls culminated with seven calls to my cell phone on Wednesday, September 23. Apparently, TruGreen has the time, personnel, and resources for their outbound sales-solicitation effort, just no time, personnel, or resources for any customer-service calls to notify clients in advance of upcoming lawn-application visits.
I sent a third letter of complaint to the Region Vice President by certified mail on September 25; the letter was accepted and receipt was confirmed by signature on Monday, September 28, 2009. However, I have never received the courtesy of a reply or a formal response to my three major points of contention from anyone at TruGreen. My lawn service included all on the list that he recommended.
I returned to Florida on October 11th, after being away since May 10th to find that 3 sections I replaced with new sod in October of 2008 were severely damaged. Also, other parts of my lawn contained weeds with the general condition of my lawn un-acceptable to damaged requiring new sod replacement. True Green agreed to replace 1 section, which has been done, but was unwilling to re-sod the other 2 that I had done in October 2008. We did not have a contract with their firm, nor ever would. And, they ignored the posted No Trespassing sign to get on my property. Even after admitting their error, they seem to have consistently tried, over the last four months, to delay the process of getting this issue resolved. They first tried to pass us around to different people in their organization. This took a month.
I had to do the research as to what might be done to bring this land back to organic status and then establish the damages through quotes from vendors. My attorney confirmed that these damage amounts were fair. They then wasted our time meeting with two different reps and taking their calls which were just a waste of my time. For example, these calls/meetings seemed merely probes for ways that they might get out of paying anything.
The ultimate insult was their offer to provide additional services from their firm instead of resolving this per my researched numbers. These meetings have taken two months. We are now dealing with their insurance company who claims to need another month to understand the situation. So we are looking at additional time before we might move forward with our devastating loss.

In early August of 2009, I received a bill for a yard application for a July 15, 2009 application. Funny that I never approved this treatment. Earlier in the year, I cancelled the service when my late husband retired from his job. This was something I was thinking of for the last two years because I was not happy with how my yard was looking and all the phone calls attempting to sell other product to me. They also claimed they were in the area, which was a big lie. After I ended the service, which was in my name only, somehow they got a hold of my husband and he was able to agree to only two applications at half price. He told me we only needed two of them and he would do the rest if they were needed.
At first I was mad because I wanted nothing to do with TruGreen any more, but I agreed. Funny how you do not sign any paper with them and they just come as they please and if you do not see them, you do not know if they are there! That is my entire point for July 15. I did not receive an invoice on my door! There was no yard post with a sign and I have an 8-lb dog, so the sign is very important to us. There was no smell and I did not see any wetness on the driveway or solids. What I am saying is I have no physical proof that they were at my house! Would you pay the bill? Then I did authorize the service! I felt it was cancelled!
I called many times and I felt my voice was finally heard. They said they were standing by their man and I was wrong. In addition, I told them my yard looked terrible and I would not to tell people that TruGreen was doing it because it looked so bad. I believe they made a mistake and when I called in August, one of the girls on the phone did not know why you had to have the yard post warnings. She felt it was no big deal if it was missing. I received a call from their customer retention department (Craig) on 9/29/2009. I decided to give them one more try after a long discussion. I explained to him that no one at TruGreen seemed to listen to me and that was my greatest complaint.
On 9/30/09, TruGreen called my wife 14 times (when the baby was trying to sleep). On the first call in the early morning, she asked them to call after 7:00PM. Let me demonstrate how incompetent that TruGreen is at listening and at customer service. They called at 11:07AM, 12:33PM, 4:23, 4:26, 4:42, 5:55, 6:13, 6:57, 7:13, 7:19, 7:27, 7:48, and twice on my cell and my office at work.
At 7:27PM, Craig called me back. I gave him an earful and told them never to call me again. TruGreen called again at 7:48PM. At that time, I gave Nicki an earful, and I have to say she handled it quite well. I apologized for all of the yelling and swearing. Through the power of the internet, I was able to get the home phone number, addresses, resumes, etc. of the entire TruGreen executive team as well as of the ServiceMaster (the parent company).
I was so irate that I called the TruGreen president, Rick Ascolese, at home. His wife answered, and I gave her an earful. He was on a business trip, so I asked for a return call. Then I called another TruGreen president, Steven Donly, at home and left a message. Finally, I got through to the ServiceMaster CEO, Patrick Spainhour. After listening to me (seemingly), he apologized and told me the he is in the process of re-vamping many things there.
It felt good to be listened to by the CEO. I'm not sure what good will come of my phone calls, but it certainly made me feel good. I really hope they don't call me again. Is there any way to get them to stop harassing me?

That evening, one of my dogs got violently sick. They are both very friendly and if he did spray the backyard, the dogs would have been by his side while he was applying poison. I feel that this is very intrusive that he would jump the gate in the first place.
Second, they were there on the wrong day and if he did apply the poison as he said he did, he did it even though he saw the dogs there. On our conversation over a year ago, it was meant to be a one-time spray that I had ordered for a sick tree. Sick trees are not sick consecutive years!
TruGreen said that they will not reverse the charge because I did not call in to cancel after I received my one time spray in 2008. So they came without our permission to our house in Colorado and sprayed. We did not receive a phone call to schedule an appointment or even alert us that they would be spraying hazardous chemicals that day. When spraying these type of chemicals, you need to alert an owner so they can keep kids/pets off and your windows closed. There is no paperwork showing that we signed up for automatic treatment every year.

I am going to make my complaint as a past employee read. I worked at their corporate call center where we covered the calls from half of the United States. I was told it was an easy job that customers call us. I made many more outbound calls than I did receive them. I felt like a telemarketer. I would never have taken the job if I knew that. I do not like telemarketing. While I was there, I had so many people say that we were the highest priced company out there. We had customers say that they are paying for service and their neighbors aren't and the neighbors have a nicer lawn doing it themselves.
I basically had to harass customers every day. The managers did not want us to put them on the Do Not Call list unless they asked for it specifically, because then we could not call them again. We had some managers in some areas even tell us to call the ones that did not want to be called. I know that can be aggravating for a customer and I apologized for myself for doing that to the ones I called. Granted we had many customers very happy with the service, but it is still not right to constantly call 60-70 times a year to add other services.
I left there because of the working conditions. I probably would have been fired anyway for not making enough sales or doing something else right. They lied to get me to fill a seat when it got busy and then threatened me when it got slow, so I would leave and then they would not have to fire me. If you are reading this and thinking about going with Trugreen, expect to be harassed for as long as you have lawn care with them.
They want you to buy everything no matter if you need it or not. Tell them upfront to put you on the Do not Call list and if you do and they call, then that is a $12,000 fine for them. There are too many quotas that everyone has to get that works there that the service is going to be cut somewhere in order for all the jobs to get done and the employee's money is not cut.

Today, Sept. 4, 2009, I concluded any relationship with TruGreen because of substantiation of what I had suspected for several months. That is, that TruGreen has been billing me for services they've not been performing. After several instructions to let me know when they would be providing service, their technician Jim(?) rang my doorbell before beginning his "work." I did not answer the door, but instead looked out to see who was here in an unmarked pickup truck. As I watched through several windows, Jim took a spreader from the truck, poured some material in it and proceeded to spread the material on the front lawn. Slightly more than five minutes later, he put the spreader back in the truck and went to the cab to fill out an invoice claiming to have spread 13 pounds of lime on 6,500 square feet of my front, back and side lawn.
Doing the arithmetic will show this to be an application rate of 0.002 pounds per square foot or about three one hundredths of an ounce per square foot. To his surprise, I was standing on the front walk when he headed toward the door to leave the invoice. He, of course, stood by his claim that he had done the whole yard and gave me the invoice. On close inspection of the backyard, its wet grass and a few bare spots, there was no evidence of spreader wheel tracks in the wet grass nor of any material having been placed on the bare spots.
I immediately called TruGreen's office and spoke to Billie, telling her of my observations and that I did not want TruGreen ever again on my property. On a second call later the same morning, I advised Billie that I did not expect them to charge my account for this so-called service. She assured me there would be no charge for this date and that she had posted the account showing there was to be no more service.

I have not had ChemLawn treat my yard for about 4 years. I fired them because they killed a row of lilac trees and several perennials (and still had weeds). I had had enough after that. But now my neighbor uses them and with the last two applications to her yard. I have a decade-old Rose of Sharon tree dying and also an equally old hibiscus which is also dying. They are close to the property line and I noticed the last time they sprayed my neighbor's yard on a windy day. I had the Rose of Sharon moved three years ago to make room for a barn and have nursed it like a child to ensure its survival.
This year it is/was loaded with flowers, but now it is curling up like a hand crippled with arthritis. I am just sick about this and have been awake since 4am this morning worrying about it. I will be contacting ChemLawn when I get home from work today. Though I do not expect them to be sympathetic since I'm not a paying customer, just a disgruntled former customer they will never get another time from, I would rather weeds take over first.
As described above, the Rose of Sharon is in bad shape and I fear it might not survive this second round with their weed/tree killer. The hibiscus is also curled up, loaded with dying flowers, and wilting to the ground. There are also 2 trees in my neighbor's yard (ChemLawn's client) showing the same symptoms that I can see, another Rose of Sharon and a hydrangea. Economically, the Rose of Sharon in my yard is irreplaceable since it is a vintage variety (double bloom) and rarely found. The hibiscus can be replaced, but this one was ancient and huge. It'll take years for a new one to reach this one's beauty. Thank you for providing this website and reading my rant, I am just livid about this. Besides putting up a fence, which I don't have funds for, I don't know what to do to keep ChemLawn from killing the rest of my plants along that property line.

TruGreen treated my yard more than three times and it has not improved. The second time, it was supposedly sprayed one day and two days later aeorated. This was a waste of my money. My yard look worse that it did before Steve, the technician, began treating. I am in the house and no one rings the bell nor knocks on the door. I am not aware of what is being done. Each time I call, someone is coming and taking care of something that I cannot see. This is a rip off and I feel that my lawyer should be advised to see what can be done. The weeds are growing beautifully and they are the ones that should have been dead by now.

On July 10th or so, Matt ** came to my home to offer the lawn care service. He had a good talk about the company and what they can do for my yard. That day I decided to take the service. On the 15th, they sent a guy to my home to spray a weed-killer, fertilizer and pest control. One to two days after he sprayed, my entire front lawn turned brown. I called the company that Monday to let them know what happened to my lawn. They said that they are sending a tech back out to look at the lawn for a service call. The man did not come until that Wednesday, exactly one week from the date of application. It was the same tech that sprayed the lawn the first time and I showed him what he did to the lawn. He told me that he probably put down too much weed-killer or something. He went and put down a fertilizer again on top of the other fertilizer he had put down the first time.
He said that he would be back in 2 weeks to do another service call. Well, after two days only weeds were growing. I called the quality control guy Matt, who’s the one who sold me the contract. Well, he did not pick up his phone or called me back after I left at least two messages for him. I called the office again and asked to speak to a sup. One came to the home the next day and said that the grass would grow back and he would inform the area manager and quality control man about the issue. Well, to make a long story short, the area manager came to my home and said that they did not do that to my yard and why am I waiting almost one month to call them about the problem. He said they will not replace almost 2000 square feet of yard and all they are willing to do is keep coming back out and putting fertilizer. He told me if it comes back, then so be it; if not, then that is not their problem.

On the recommendation of a neighbor with a low maintenance lawn, I hired TruGreen to do four weed control/fertilizer treatments and one grub control treatment. I prepaid for the service because it seemed easier and cheaper. I hired TruGreen on the sole condition that I be notified of the date of each treatment beforehand so that I could unlock the gate to the back yard (I have a 6 foot fence surrounding a large grassy dog run). TruGreen sent me a postcard with all the dates confirmed except the first treatment. I called to get the first treatment date confirmed, July 23rd, and that day came and went with no one showing up to do the work. I called TruGreen to notify them of the missed appointment and they said they were surprised and that the technician would be sure to reschedule and call me the day before.
I came home from work on July 31st to find a warning marker on my front lawn. TruGreen had done a treatment (well, not really, but wait for it) without notifying me. Okay, but what about the backyard? Fence locked, toys strewn in the yard and a warning marker just tossed over the side. Did he or didn't he? Well, I have a neighbor who tried to break into my house so I have surveillance cameras in my windows. Unfortunately, only the front one was on and it shows the tech sprayed my lawn, but only partially. He goes around back, comes to the front and knocks on my door. When he realized I wasn't home, he went to the truck and wrote out charges for weed control and grub control (spray) and fertilizer, which was supposed to be a dry application and which he did not do when he realized I wasn't home. I got it on camera.
I suppose I could have them come back and redo the service but I have no confidence in the competence of this moron tech. What troubles me most about this experience is that he entered (or so he states on the invoice) a locked yard with toys thrown all over. So, if he did hop the fence, why not move the toys? Or, did he spray them? Or around them? Or did he just neglect the backyard like he neglected to do the fertilizer treatment? This idiot had absolutely no way of knowing for sure that the toys were dog toys. They could have belonged to a toddler. And even so, my dog doesn't deserve to be poisoned by an idiot.

This is the second, and final, time we have used TruGreen. The first time was a long-term treatment plan of about 12 months. For the most part, it kept the existing grass very green (no dispute there). However, it never managed to rid our lawn of the moss, but it sure was green! We had field supervisors and technicians back several times and always got a "Yep, still haven't been able to get rid of moss. How about another $100 for this or continue your $60 monthly treatment for that?” This most recent occasion was a matter of convenience when I left for Iraq. In an effort to help my wife with the yard, she ordered it again. Well, again, she was not satisfied and cancelled after 5 treatments.
Well, the customer service person was very emphatic that she wanted to help resolve the issue, but that was limited to words, not action. Here's a clue, TruGreen. Customers vote with their feet and wallets. In these economic times, customers need to feel they are receiving a good value, a decent product at a fair price. As a matter of convenience, I was more than willing to pay $50+ per month for a postage stamp-sized yard to help out my wife, but never again will you have my business. I will tell as many friends and family as I can what an over-priced sham your service appears to be from my perspective.

I have dealt with the service people by phone numerous times, and at one point they brought me some trays of plugs (different grass). My son-in-law worked all weekend digging out chinch bug infested areas. After numerous problems and no help from the local office, I have finally called another company. My lawn, it turns out, is infested with chinch bugs, sod web worms, and has a variety of weeds, including yellow and purple nutsedge, pursley, spurge, etc. I will need to sod half my lawn since the damage is so extensive. I am going to court for damages as well as calling the local TV channel action reporter. Promises to respray and resod have not materialized.

This is not a complaint against your employee. He is very nice and understands that we need some help with garden weeds as well. I have talked with Dave telling him I am upset about all of the extra treatments that your company has put us on. We live on our S.S. and with all the prices going up, we cannot keep up with any extra service. We started out years ago, with three treatments a year for the grass and weeds. I guess weeds mean only the ones in grass. I think that we would like the change our treatment from weeds in the grass to weeds along bushes, (front and back) and in the flower beds for awhile. As your employee can tell you, I have had four major surgeries in the last two years and I cannot go out to spray the weeds that are 2 feet tall in the back garden, which was at one time a couple of years ago, a lawn. I think by doing this and killing the weeds around the house, we would not have so many growing on the edges of the lawn.
Then three years ago, the village said that we had to buy three trees/baby bushes, so the bugs at certain times need bug spray (2), plus a shot (1) of fertilizer. Those should be the only treatments for trees and bushes. We never asked for the lawn to be sprayed for bugs, etc. and yet we now get sprayed for that also. Yet, the ants are still nesting and I have to go out and kill them. So it looks like the extra charges for bugs is just to spend money, which we do not have. No more bug treatment on the lawn, please. Dave is very kind, but he has to do what he is told. So I am telling you, you must cut back on all the treatments, unless you do what I said about alternating the weed spraying to all the weeds and stop the grass weeds for the rest of the year or unless I call you back and schedule a weed treatment on the lawn. One good shot of the weed killer on the surrounding house weeds should be enough for me to get a head start on eliminating that mess, when my doctor gives me the okay.
So I think that we have to rethink our strategy on our lawn/garden care, so we can feel that we have what we need and receive a fair treatment. I have been with Barefoot Grass before you merged and became TruGreen, so I had to have started in about 1987 at my ** address. I was always happy with the # of lawn nourishment treatments and costs, but there are just too many and too costly now. The grass looks good, but those weeds are bad.

TruGreen ruined my lawn and kept coming back on our property for work (with invoices), despite cancellation of service! Last fall, we were enticed by advertisements to participate in TruGreen's lawn service. They put lime and fertilizer into the lawn late in the fall, and this did not work so well. By spring, the lawn was in terrible condition compared to similar winters and other treatments we had carried out. I cancelled the service by phone and by mail. Then I kept getting calls in early winter, and reminded TruGreen of my cancellation (and lack of interest!) not once but 3 more times in calls from their insistent "calling team." Imagine our surprise when in the middle of the summer, without notification, our lawn gets extensive "lime treatment and fertilizer" and we got an invoice for services for payment.
I called the customer service department to complain and have them stop. And frankly, I got a rather terse "Who did you speak to 10 months ago to cancel? What was your cancel order number?" which is a way to challenge the customer rather than showing real concern of a very inappropriate business operation. Eventually, without a real apology, the charge was obviously cancelled. The evidence of the poor performance of TruGreen's work and that so many people write of their trouble and wish to stop their service should be known to unsuspecting lawn owners and others.

The funny thing about TruGreen is that most customers don't have a full understanding of the service. I've been working for TruGreen for two years. I see a lot of complaints on here. I don't think that customers understand that different weeds come up with each season changes. I know it's different for people in other areas but I work right outside of Philadelphia. When I first started with the service at the end of the season, we got a lot of calls about lawns being thin and not looking too good. But think about it, if you start in March and after about four apps, you see some thin and bare spots where the weeds used to be. Well, new grass can't grow where there is no seed, so you may have to seed.
Also, the reason some lawns turn brown is because you have to water the lawn, just like the bags say at Home Depot. You have to water the product in for the best results and there are proper ways to water a lawn! You should always water in the morning because the sun will soak up the extra water. Watering at night when the extra can't be soaked up can cause fungus. There is also a proper way to cut the grass. On the highest setting with a sharp blade, if you cut it too short, it exposes the base of the plant and on a hot enough day, it will burn out the base which causes it to be brown.
I saw a complaint about the grub service. Yes, it is expensive but the grubs eat the product instead of the roots of the grass and it suffocates them. I also saw something about Zoysia grass. Did you know that in order for Zoysia to be green, the soil needs to maintain 65 degrees or warmer? Also when it gets too hot for any type of grass, the lawn goes dormant to protect itself. I feel bad for the customers who have gotten bad service or have been misled by sales reps (but I work as a sales auditor with the company) and that annoying confirmation call that our customers have to do. I know within my branch I personally try to work and answer questions the best I can.
I know you are all thinking that I'm just defending the company because I work there but believe me, I don't agree with everything that my company does. But that's why I switched my job so that I can be sure all the customers I talk with understand. We are your partner in lawn care and I know that we do have some rude people that work for us but hopefully they will all be fired. Seriously folks, call your local branch and don't be afraid to ask questions. We are there to help. Not everyone in the company is a horrid, slimy person. Some of us do care!

We are not interested in dealing with a company that bills us for service we don't receive. So, we were going to cancel service at this time, but the person we spoke with talked us into completing the rest of the summer applications by giving us a free application. It was our understanding that the service would be cancelled at the end of the contracted summer applications.
In addition, in the fall of 2008, we received a call asking if we wanted additional fall service. My wife told them we were not interested and we wanted to cancel the service. On 4/14/2009, we were surprised to find that the lawn had been aerated and we were being billed for $83.00. TruGreen says they have no record of us cancelling the service and will not acknowledge it. I was contacted by a sales rep Josh (his last name is not legible on sales form) on Tuesday, June 23. Actually, he did give part of his sales spiel the previous day, the 22nd, and I asked him to call back after my wife and I discussed the situation. On the 23rd, he visited me and gave me all of the details, plus cost of four different applications. The first two being half price at $28.00 each. He said time and date of application would be confirmed by telephone later that day. I warned Josh that I wanted to be notified in advance of any workman arriving here as I wanted to be present. He stated that they would call and he gave me his cell phone number so that he could resolve any problem that could arise. During the phone call by a female rep later that day, I was informed that the work would probably start the week of the 22nd. She was told that would be fine except that from the 3rd of July, I would not be home and didn't want anyone here then. I was told that would be fine.
Thursday morning the 25th, I took my Jack Russel dog out for relievement and wondered why the dew was so heavy that my feet got wet. She was saturated. About 15 minutes later, I let her out onto my closed-in deck and she joined in with my neighbor's dog in furious barking at someone in the front yard. Turns out that it was an applicator from TruGreen and my response was "what the hell do you think you are doing?". Hearing where he was from, I further stated that he was only to be working in my presence and during the following week. Realizing then that the said dog and I were wet with chemicals and not dew, I bathed her and then washed my feet off. By then, the workman was gone, but I called my neighbor and told her to wash off her animal too.
I called the company and was told that the manager would buzz me later. His statement was "the worst that could be expected would be small blisters on the feet". Small blisters be **, we encountered poison. Anyway, he got an earful about not following my directions and said things would be better in the future. Thursday evening, the night of the application, I was tying up my tomato plants when I noticed two plants closest to the yard were wilting and mistakenly though it was from lack of moisture and watered them. The next morning, Friday the 26th, I noticed dying weeds in the yard and finally realized that the tomatoes had been sprayed by chemicals as they were drooping more. I tried to contact Josh on his cell phone twice, once last week and yesterday the 29th, only an answering machine with no response from him.
Climbing on my lawn tractor to cut grass, it became readily evident as I mowed how much lawn had never been touched by chemicals. Clover in an area that ran for 12 feet to 25 feet wide by 100 plus feet long was blooming in all of its glory, plus any and all weeds were very green. Checking more, the area in and along the side of my large deck also had not been touched. 18 inch high weeds along the sides and back of my shed were doing very well also, no spray. A call to Clarion produced no results, so I got yesterday's newspaper (to prove the date) and photographed the front page with all untouched chemical areas.
About an hour ago, I called Clarion TruLawn again and conversed with a Mike who refused to give his last name and stated same at least three times. He heard very long and loud about his company and that I was pursuing the matter with the Better Business Bureau and the local Chamber of Commerce. He was warned that if this was the way his company rectified and solved problems reported by a customer, that he or his employees were never to set foot on my property again. Wonderful company and customer service, that is stated fictitiously. Thanks for hearing me out and I hope that this report of mine gets around.

I called the office and told them I wanted my money back. The lady on the phone indicated that I was never scheduled for any service. She talked me into keeping the contract and after haggling, she said they would do the aeration and lawn application at no charge. I reluctantly agreed. They came out; aeration was okay and looked like there were plugs.
After two weeks, my lawn is still dried out. I increased my sprinkler time. We've also had lots of rain and little hot weather. I usually buy a bag or two of fertilizer from Home Depot and my lawn looks great. Pretty hideous, I had trouble getting through their phone lines. I left a message to cancel and not to call me back. Very bad service, they are certainly not keeping up with their end of the bargain. There are no damages other than dealing with a bad company. They said someone would be out in five to ten days to do the first application for $29.95. Someone came and said that it would be $210.00 per application. Bottom line is that if there are people calling over the phone and making offers they need to know the size of the property. I talked for someone there and called if they use an internet to get the size of the property before they called to make an offer. They said yes, but the girl was new and gave me the price for a townhouse and the best they could do for me is $165.00 per application. I said that I would agree to $105.00 per application, that it would be half of what they said it would really cost. They wouldn't agree with that. I have seen results with a lot of the lawns we treat that have been on the service within the first year and seen the improvement. I agree that sometimes customers are misinformed, but that does not make us a bad company. I care about the quality of my work and I think it shows in appearance. I recommend anyone to use TruGreen because they truly do care about their customers (and no, I'm not saying this to make us look better because of the complaints on this site). We are more than happy to help the homeowners with any concerns or questions they may have. Give us a try. We'll love you as a customer!

TruGreen was hired in March '09 to address the weeds in our front and back yard. After two applications, the grass now has several large burned areas throughout the lawn. You can actually see a pattern that was used by the technician using the sprayer. After several attempts to contact managers at TruGreen, no one called us back. Finally, after becoming angry with them, Patrick called back and met me the next morning to view the lawn. He acknowledged that the grass was burnt but stated that it was supposed to look like that while the grass is being treated. Hogwash! He stated he would have the lawn fertilized with a granule type fertilizer. That was three weeks ago. Several rainstorms later, the lawn looks worse than before.
After reading some of the consumer complaints with this company, I realized that the same thing has happened to several consumers. TruGreen makes a half-hearted attempt to correct the situation knowing all along it will be a long expensive process to do so. Only the weeds were supposed to be destroyed not the grass. I believe this is a scam to get more services from the consumer. I would like our grass to look beautiful like our neighbors; however, TruGreen has ruined that for the time being. I want this company to replace the burned areas of my lawn with new sod. They caused the problem. They are responsible for fixing it immediately. I do want to speak with an attorney if I have a case. The homeowner's association will be addressing the burned spots on our lawn and we could quite possibly be fined. Please advise on what to do. I have been calling TruGreen since 5/22/09 and no one has called back. James ** is a big boss and Steve ** is the branch manager; neither will call me back.

I have been attempting to sever relations with this company since 2006. They attempted to just go ahead and spray when they didn't think I was there. Luckily I caught them and prevented it, telling them I would contact the police and charge them with trespassing if they came onto my property again. This was 2006; my last contract with them was for 2005. Since then, they call on a monthly basis to harass me to purchase their services.
I have just filed a complaint with the FTC on the Do Not Call Registry as it has been over 18 months since I had any relationship with them. It seems to me from the other complaints on this website they would be easy pickings for a competent attorney to file a class action suit as their tactics are consistent across the country.

We had TruGreen in 2007. We weren't satisfied with their services because we still had weeds, crabgrass, and the bugs were eating our bushes. The start of 2008, they called to continue our service and we declined. They kept harassing us. My husband talked to the tech and had reached an agreement. They would apply lawn application in the spring and fall. After the fall application, we were still not happy; we had crabgrass and weeds. The bushes still looked like they were bug infested. When they called to see if we needed grub control, I informed them that their services are no longer required!
We moved in February 2009 from Ohio to Kentucky. We received a bill statement 60 days later at our new address that stated that they treated our lawn and bushes on 3/12/09, and again on 3/26/09. We never requested their service. When I called the billing office in Elyria, OH, the woman told me they are sorry; “but the new owner got the bill, they hung on the door, and it took us that long to find you.” Hello, we do not live or own that property. She asked if we ever canceled our service. Both my husband and I had cancelled numerous times.
How can TruGreen bill someone who does not live or own the property they serviced? We do not nor have we ever signed a contract with them. She said they will just send it to collections. So I guess any company can just enter your property, or someone else’s for that matter, perform a service and bill you for it? TruGreen billed us $175.32 for services to someone else’s property; and if we do not pay, they will send us to collections.

There was a bill for a core aeration attached to my doorknob when I got home from work on 5/20/09. The bill states, "Today, I core aerated the lawn. This will allow soil to get proper moisture and nutrients. Cores will break down with watering." The next morning, I walked my front yard front to back and could not find any holes in the ground nor could I find any core plugs lying around. They had left a bill on my door for $101.12 but did not do the work. I contacted them at 8:00 on 5/21/09 and told them the problem and they didn't seem overly shocked to me, but maybe I was expecting a little more concern than them just wanting to reschedule the aeration for the next Wednesday.
What makes this really interesting is that this was the second time I had to call them within a matter of a couple of months. The previous time I had complained that if they were spraying my yard at all, then they must have been using plain water. They retreated after my complaint and all the weeds began dying very quickly. I had wondered if they even treated at all until I complained about the weeds. Now, with this second issue, I think I know the answer.

I made a double payment, my error. I was then subsequently maneuvered by obvious professionals of deceit. Service has been cancelled, but TruGreen still has money owed to us. This was confirmed by a manager, Ben **, now with the Dayton, OH office. After more than a score of phone conversation, where promises were made and never kept, we still are owed this money from a situation that occurred in October of 2008. Personnel has been rude; just tonight (Larry) hung up on me. We are owed more than $80.00. We are owed a refund for an inferior service, a double payment, an unnecessary application, and 4 - 50 lb. of ice melt.

I paid TruGreen over $500.00 to rid my lawn of weeds and crabgrass. Their sales representative guaranteed they could get rid of the weeds and make the lawn look better (it was fine apart from the weeds). I kept complaining to them and they kept trying to charge extra for services that were clearly part of the original quote. It’s 2 years later and the weeds are twice as bad as when they started. They stopped coming and I moved out of state, but now I am trying to sell the house. The weeds are a real problem: house value reduced owing to weeds still in grass and the cost of mowing more often to keep lawn from looking like it is all weeds. We paid for a service that was clearly not adequately carried out or was just a plain lie as to the capability of TruGreen to do what they have promised.

In the Spring of 2008, I decided to hire Trugreen Chemlawn to take care of our lawn maintenance. Even though our lawn was fairly new, it was in really good shape and I wanted them to make it look even better. After a year of "treatments", the lawn was a complete disaster. I paid an average of $150 per application and this year, I had a massive grub problem. I suspected that TruGreen actually brought the grubs over and deposited them on my lawn, so that I would have to pay for their grub control.
I've lived in the NE for 20 years and never had any grub issues on previous lawns. Unfortunately, I don't have any proof that TruGreen deposited the grubs. All I knew was that after TruGreen treated my lawn, it was in worse shape than it was before they started. I now have massive repair work to do to fix the grub damage. In my opinion, stay away from TruGreen and hire a local professional.

In a previous experience with another lawn care provider, what started out as $200 worth of lawn care ended up at $450. So I decided to try TruGreen, paid upfront a deal for $200. No complaints about service (neither good or bad), but got so many calls trying to up-sell me and could not get straight answers to the question, "Is this part of my prepaid service?" that I was not going to do it this year. They showed up anyway, without another prepaid contract and then billed me for the service. I called to tell them I did not have a contract and they said no problem, they will take that off the bill and cancel service. But the bills keep coming. I called again and this time they show that I cancelled service (which I never signed up for), but the bill is still due and offered to split the difference.
I have to wonder if there is a legal misrepresentation. If I signed up for a prepaid contract, then how can it renew? The intention of the contract was for a fixed amount of service and that's it. If they would like to sell me another prepaid contract, then they are welcome to do so.

We used TruGreen for a couple of years with good results. Last year, we called and canceled our contract. TruGreen kept calling, even when I bluntly told them to never call again. Finally, as a joke, my husband tried to low ball them into a deal for one year and they said okay. He was specific about the contract ending after one year. This January, they called three times and leaving messages, which we ignored. I came home in February to see their sign on our lawn stating they did a treatment! I called and was told smugly that since they couldn't reach us, that the contract was still in effect. I told them I would pay, but to never call us again.
Last week a salesperson showed up at our door trying to sell TruGreen. Apparently, the company didn't pass on our messages. Last night I got a call from Barry, asking if we wanted to continue services. Again, I went into our issues with the company and he said if they didn't hear from us, that was their cue to continue the contract. I have tried to be blunt, but nice, but I am getting frustrated. They don't seem to care nor are they logging our conversations. I will never refer anyone to TruGreen. I told Barry that I considered his call as harassment. He said he would pass on my complaint. Oh yes, a week after the lawn service, I received an online survey about the last service. Because I rated them as the worst, I was sent a message saying a supervisor would contact us. No call yet.

I was quoted a price of $29.95 for a one time treatment. It was an advertised special. Similar to others, they wouldn't stop treating the lawn, although I told them to stop. They would come when I was at work and slipped the invoice on my door. I had only agreed to the one treatment and they knew it. The customer service area kept saying they would tell the guy to stop coming, but the salesperson also needed to get involved. I told them I would not pay for unauthorized services. They sent it to a collection agency that called every day. I took it to the Texas Attorney General's office and the president of the company.
The company made the mistake of thinking they could ignore the attorney general's office and me. Things got heated for TruGreen Chemlawn after that. The Texas Attorney General's office is not to be trifled with. Soon, I got a written apology. Apparently, the salesperson was fired and the charge was removed from the collection agency. They acknowledged that I was correct in saying I had only agreed to one application. I encourage others to push through with your complaint. Because the pattern is so similar, I think they train their people to be relentless and shade the facts.

Last summer, the TruGreen salesman had been around the neighborhood several times, so I figured, "What the heck, I'll give it a try." I agreed to one treatment for fertilization, and one treatment for pest control. Big mistake - they started calling day and night several times a week. I told them not to call anymore, I was not interested, etc. It got so bad that we actually had to block their calls to our phone number.
Then (and I find this unbelievable), they had the gall to show up at my address last week, treat my lawn, and leave an invoice! I was livid - I immediately called TruGreen to lodge a complaint. I told the rep that I was not paying for the service and to speak with my attorney if he had a problem with that. He responded that he would send the invoice to a collection agency. Apparently, by agreeing to a single treatment, I had agreed to the annual service - **! I had not agreed to any recurring service from them. I am considering filing a lawsuit.

In April, they seeded the lawn and I was expecting the lawn to get better. I kept waiting and finally in June timeframe, I complained about the lawn. A technician told me that he would visit and take appropriate actions. There was no improvement in the appearance of the lawn. I got busy last summer and couldn't follow up with them again. Come October, I contacted them again and starting this time, they made several appointments and never made it. TruGreen has performed my lawn service for roughly 1 year. Last fall, I asked for aeration and overseeding to be completed on my yard. When the service was initially started and this service was requested, I specifically asked for Fescue Marathon grass to be planted. They came to perform the service. While the service was being performed, they used a different style grass. When I first complained about the grass, according to a service specialist, it was an unknown form of grass. I was then instructed to remove the grass or wait until summer - it will die. I am paying for the specialists to perform this work; why should I have to remove the grass?
Next, I made several complaints. Some of the service guys seemed to care, but when I finally got to the Branch Management, as well as the office manager, it is where it all fell apart. I requested to be reimbursed for the botched service during the aeration. They offered a free aeration and overseeding service. I was then informed by mail that my account was cancelled. I then spoke to Jackie (office manager), after numerous calls, who instructed me a manager would come out to assess the situation. Three weeks have passed and no one has contacted nor called me for anything. My account remains cancelled without my request. There is no service whatsoever and no refund nor planned service.

I proceeded to tell him the size of my property he asked for the lot size. I told him a little under 3/4 of an acre but the grass does not cover the entire lot. I was quoted by Jason that the price would be $120. I told him no and to come and measure my yard. He proceeded to get kind of hostile when I told him no to the price and to measure my lawn. He said he would be at my house by the next day between 2 and 4 o'clock. He never arrived. I received a call later that night saying he would be here around 12-1 the next afternoon. The next day 1:30 came rolling around and no one showed up.
I called the office in Austell and was told he was on the way. He arrived 20 minutes later and did a general overview of my lawn. He said he can treat my lawn for $40 and aerate it for $80. I told him fine. I was furious already for wasting a day waiting on him before and he took off taking no more than five minutes looking at the lawn. I got a call around 4:30 from his secretary saying that I agreed $45 and $90 I said and asked for him to be put on the phone. He started arguing with me, calling me a liar that he never quoted that price. I told him, "Fine, you wanted to bait and switch me. I will find someone else." He then hung up. I sent a second letter to the company and informed them that further unauthorized services on my property would result in non-payment for their services.

It is illegal for anyone to apply a pesticide to a lawn or other property that is not under their control without that property owner's permission. This is true for nearly every state. If you have truly ended a contract and do not want a pesticide applied to your property, then no party can apply pesticides there. Doing so will violate state and possibly federal regulations regarding pesticides. You can contact your state's Dept. of Agriculture or Department of Natural Resources if this happens.
