I entered into a one-year agreement with TruGreen 9-12. They took a years payment IN FULL on 9-13-12. I was told I had a one-year guarantee - if I was not satisfied I would get a complete refund. I am not satisfied - especially after today. EVERY time they have come out, we have had to call for them to re-treat. They don't come when they say. They blame it on a new computer and said people don't get put into the queue for the next day. The icing on the cake was today - I received a bill for service on 7-30-13 - remember - I paid one year in advance in September of 2012. I called 3 times today and was told 3 different things. First person couldn't even "see" that I paid in September. 2nd person "found" my payment but said it's not necessarily a year but so many treatments and that I did owe. 3rd person said their "year" goes from January to January and in January 2013, I should have had the option of a refund of the balance of what I paid or rolling it over to the next "year" - that didn't happen.

I told him our yard looks no better and I am frustrated and I wanted to exercise my option to receive a full refund - was told they don't do that and that whatever I was told by the person who "sold" me the plan wasn't necessarily true. So I am waiting still for phone calls to straighten this out. In the meantime, I went to their online site and filled out a complaint there - I keep calling the local Dayton number but they keep answering in Columbus! I also filed a report with the BBB - at this point I am done with them and just want my total refund as told when they hooked me into this. Definitely not the service we had from them previously when they were TruGreen/Chemlawn.

I first contacted this company in August of 2012. They never showed so I cancelled with them. Local management was very apologetic and asked me to give them another try. Wow, am I ever sorry I did. They came in March and April and treated my brand new sod. I had no problems until the May treatment. Whatever they used began to turn my lawn brown. You could make the areas where the treatment had been placed and where they missed. I've tried for weeks to get them to even look at what they've done.

Finally the manager came out two weeks ago and he says it's weeds that are dying. I had a beautiful lawn...over the past two months I have totally bare spots in the back yard and barely any grass left. I will have to re-sod my yard. I asked my account be closed and be refunded the money left in my account. They did do that. Please...take heed of TruGreen and their services.

I asked TruGreen to come out and give me an estimate on getting rid of the weeds in my lawn. The sales person immediately launched into a pitch on how many times they were going to come out and how great a job they were going to do. I then asked for their proposal in writing saying I wanted to compare their services with other vendors before selecting one. She then launched into a higher pressure sales pitch about how much better they were than anyone else, did I want good price or good quality, local guys just get stuff off the shelf at Home Depot, yada, yada, yada. I explained to her I understood all that but I still wanted their proposal in writing. She got all snippy, said, "Well, consider TruGreen in the future," and hung up on me. No way am I going with that company if that is an example of their customer service skills.

I have had TruGreen as a lawn care contractor since 2006. Boy have they changed. I paid for yearly care, and they miss service treatments. Each time I start with customer service. They promise to send someone out. When the appointment is missed, they apologize, reschedule, and miss the next appointment. My next stage in resolving this is to call corporate customer service. What a nice group of people. It literally takes 3 to 6 weeks until you actually get someone from their local branch to call you and resolve your service. I have resorted to driving to their local branch, sit in their office and try to resolve my service as a final last straw. If they don't show up, I just keep visiting their office.

I know I made a mistake hiring this company. The time I have spent trying to obtain service has not been worth the hassle of not fertilizing my lawn myself. A bag of fertilizer is about $40.00. Ever since they changed their call system to a national system, service quality has decreased. What irritates me the most is that, the services are prepaid, and services are sparingly given. You do not get what you've paid for.

I signed up for TruGreen 1 year services in January 2013. Had my first lawn and shrub treatment in February 2013, then another lawn treatment in March 2013. By May, I had noticed my lawn started to have some broad leaf weeds growing here and there. I understand you can not kill or prevent every weed. Then, my scheduled treatments were cancelled in April and again in June. My lawn in July looked horrible with multiple grasses, crabgrass and broadleaf weeds everywhere. I called to communicate my frustration. The rep for TruGreen seemed empathetic seeing I hadn't received a treatment in almost 5 months, so she scheduled a treatment for the next week. Lo and behold, TruGreen cancelled that treatment with another excuse that the technician wasn't able to make it.

I cancelled my "Verbal Agreement" and asked for a refund of my only 2 treatments because there has to be some legality to coaxing people into making a couple payments and then not do your job and be on your way. Now my lawn, which is sod is 1/4 dying and overrun with weeds and yes I know how to mow my lawn and the irrigation system has been adjusted all season. I read reviews as well. If you read this, please read all the common reviews and see that the same situation is occurring with other customers. I did not search for reviews unfortunately before I agreed to their services. Hope this helps.

I signed up with TruGreen in March 2013. I took the year quote to save 10%. The 1st visit on March 19th went well. That was for bushes around the house, a freebee. Then March 20th, the 1st lawn application was made. I was told they would be back in a month for the 2nd application and if I had any problems before then to call. Good! No problem. That is until I called 2 weeks later to let them know the weeds were not only still there but was spreading. Getting them to come back out has been a nightmare every month.

The last straw came this month (July). I called the week of July 7th and was scheduled for the 17,18 or 19th. The tech called and said he'd be out the 18th. I waited all day and no one came. At around 5:30pm the tech called and said he got bogged down and that he'd be out on the 23rd or 24th. Okay, no problem. I waited on both days for him because now my lawn is turning brown and the weeds are really growing because of the rain. No one called, no one showed up.

I called TruGreen on the 25th and was told someone would be out the 30th. Today is that day and at 3pm I called to make sure I was still scheduled only to find out the tech that was suppose to be out on the 18th wrote that he completed the call. The call taker said she could reschedule me for Monday, August the 5th. I said "okay", hung up, thought about my dealings with TruGreen since March and all the no-shows along with no phone calls and decided, that's it and I'm done.

Life is too short for this type of aggravation and there are many other companies out there that are reputable and care about their customers. I will say this about TruGreen: Their call takers are very nice. They're very apologetic, almost to the point that they seem to be high. LOL!! I couldn't raise my voice if I wanted to. But for a company as big as TruGreen is to have such a lackadaisical attitude towards their customers is really a turn off for me. So I'll take my business elsewhere. I only hope my refund for the unused months shows up on my credit card. Otherwise, I've got another fight on my hands. I'll see how good getting "Billy's" name and a confirmation number works out.

We are one of the few homes in our subdivision with an in-ground sprinkler system and yet, my lawn looks terrible. TruGreen also solicits - constant upsells are made. They come to the door, they call - and each time I say "take me off the list" - "stop" - and each time I'm assured that will happen, but it doesn't. I tried to cancel my service and they still bill me and STILL solicit me! Whoever their CEO is, he or she needs to know what a terrible job and disservice is being made.

Every time they (TruGreen) spray our lawn (owned by HUD managed by a For profit management group called The Meridian Group), Our Service Dog gets severe diarrhea. I sometimes lose my voice and we all get headaches that last for several days. Keep in mind that this Property is meant for Low income individuals with families and health problems. They seldom cut the lawn or fix much needed repairs but have enough in their budget to kill the dandelions! TruGreen claims it goes on dry but they literally soak the lawn producing a chemical smell that has been known to cause vomiting in the past. TruGreen billed me for a service that they never delivered on April 29th of this year. I suspected I was being billed for service that never happened, and this time I verified it. I stayed home the day they were supposed to come and treat the lawn. They never showed and I was billed. I have written them multiple times since and they ignore my letters and just continue to rebill. I have cancelled my service. And now that they have sent me another reminder I've decided to air my complaint publicly.

If you subscribe to TruGreen service and your lawn looks like it was never treated, there is a good chance it wasn't serviced. We called and spoke with a number of folks to try and resolve this... We have talked on the phone with Matthew in New York, Jennifer ** in New York, also Amanda in Manchester, Rachael in Ohio, and Anna in Wisc. employee number ** on May 2nd, but we are still being billed.

I tried TruGreen initially because they were the most popular name and boy was I wrong. The first time they came out in the spring, I literally only saw 5 weeds in the front of my yard die and none in the back. I wasn't pleased so I canceled the service. Weeks later they kept begging me to come back and threw discount after discount in my face and I kept saying no. Finally after constant nagging from my wife I gave them a second chance but gave specific instructions to notify me a day before they come out so I can see what the tech is doing and possibly talk to him so I can understand my lawn/yard better. The tech came and I got no call of his arrival.

I called to discuss and they mentioned their systems must have been having issues, etc so I said nothing. I asked how long is the treatment supposed to take and they said 17 days. Day 9 of the 17 days I only saw one patch of weeds in the front yard die and nothing else. I mentioned this when I called in to tell them I don't see the weeds dying and they told me to wait 17 days. Today I finally called to cancel because if you can't do the job, you can't work for me. My yard still looks like a jungle. TruGreen has my $60 so I basically got screwed for $60 and I'm not smiling after. I personally think these guys come out during the day when they know you're not home, apply a small amount of weed killer and move on. I'm not thrilled.

We have requested over the phone several times for TruGreen to stop coming to our house to treat our lawn. After using them for one or two years, we explained that it was expensive, we needed to cut back on our expenses and wanted to cancel. It was either the latter part of the week of July 8 or earlier the week of July 15 that I requested that they no longer come to our house, again! I was switched over to a very aggressive customer support person who just wouldn't take no for an answer when I wanted to cancel. I ended up having to hang up on him. He kept insisting that we need their service. They had come to our house in April 2013 to treat our lawn and charged us $65.00. I said we were not going to pay for the claim because we didn't request the service. The very next day, I find a plastic pack with a couple of leaves in it with a note about what's wrong with our lawn. Today, we received a notice from a collection agency (Transworld Systems, Inc.) requesting the $65.00. Stay away from this company; they are highly unethical! I plan to report their unethical business practice to the Better Business Bureau (if they exist). I honestly haven't had to complain about a company in years but if they still exist, I'm complaining.

Last year I agreed to have TruGreen service my lawn for a limited 4 applications. The agreement was limited to 2012 only. I want to emphasize that I made TruGreen assure me that the agreement was for 2012 only and that they will not assume an auto renewal! I also made them assure me that they will not call me to up sell other products/services. Nonetheless they used an existing agreement as an excuse to call me a million times to sell all kinds of services. They told me that based on their experience and expertise, horrible things were very likely going to happen to my lawn unless I used their service/application. At the end of the 2012 season, they called to renew the service which I declined? Then they made another attempt at the start of this year (2013) and again I declined.

Much to my surprise, without my approval and even after I declined their service twice, they trespassed my property and made the first application. Since then I have had several harassing conversations with them. In short they did everything to bully me into paying for something that I did not ask for. Something which I specifically declined. TruGreen even sent my invoice to a nasty third party collection agency. I have spent a lot of time and effort in getting the bill cancelled and the service terminated. What is most annoying is that TruGreen claims that it is within its rights to do this, while in 2010 Attorney General of the State of NY took them to court over this issue. TruGreen knows that it is wrong but uses bullying tactics to provide service that people don't need or want and then twist their arms to pay up for that service.

I just received a phone call from collections. After talking to the initial representative who understood my concerns for the bill I was being asked to pay, she connected me with Brad, a manager. Brad would not allow me to share with him my concerns dating back to the beginning of May. He actually demanded I listen to and not interrupt HIM! I am delighted this conversation was recorded! I only hate that I too was recording it so that I could share it with the public. I am waiting to hear back from Brad's supervisor. Brad will soon find out I have a near perfect credit score and will be paying this bill as soon as someone can answer questions for me.

These questions involve why we requested a manager call and meet with us mid May and have still not heard from anyone. We also requested services. We have still not met with or heard from a manager and then TruGreen continued to provide services that were requested over 30 days ago and while we were out of town for a month! We arrived home to find bills for services that had been requested but not performed over 30 days ago. We will be paying our bill and ending our relationship with TruGreen on Monday. I hope Brad gets fired and then goes to law school or gets some counseling!

TruGreen took over a local tree maintenance service with whom we had done business for 20 years. We were on a contract for regular service to protect our trees and shrubs. TruGreen came on October 15, 2012 to spray our trees, and then apparently dropped our contract without notifying us. We noticed three weeks ago that a tree was seriously damaged, realized that TruGreen had not been here, called immediately, and they promised they would send out someone in three to five days. Seven days later, we called again to be told we had to sign up again with the company and will have to wait perhaps 10 more days for service.

Our beautiful tree is probably dead and other larger ones on the property are at risk. We trusted this company. I have made four calls, talked to people in Redmond, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Seattle, all of whom were polite but none of whom could offer an explanation or a solution. They blame the Sales Department. Welcome to the great gobble-up of local businesses by corporations that could care less about a consumer. Last year (2012), I pre-paid and received services from TruGreen. I paid for weed control, fertilize every five weeks and lawn aeration. The only issue was the lawn aeration which wasn't completed until Thanksgiving. I was offered a 10% discount this year (2013) and took advantage. WHAT A MISTAKE!!! Original service call on 3/29 stated someone would be out the next day. After multiple calls to corporate as well as the local (Allison Park, PA) office, someone FINALLY came out on April 18th. This is after I called several times and was told "someone will be out TOMORROW"... Tomorrow never seems to come for this company.

It has now been NINE weeks and I have had no service. My lawn is turning brown. I have called four times in the last five days. I was told Friday that someone would be here Monday or Tuesday. Today is now Wednesday and I called the 800 number this morning as well as the local number. I was told someone was coming today. I have now filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau after reading all of the recent complaints on this website. My next move is to contact an attorney and the local news here. I have tried to cancel my service but no one is refunding my money. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I have read these reviews coming in from all over the country and don't understand how this is still happening??? I am going to research Kapp’s Lawn Service and see what I find.

All I get is a service center every time I call back to get a resolution to this issue. To top it off, I get numerous calls from them each day telling me to pay a bill for a service I canceled.

This was fine until the same person came back and did the same treatment again within 10 days by mistake, and it burned my beautiful lawn and killed my grass. I called the local office every day for about two weeks and could not get anybody to call me back. I then called the salesperson, and he came out right away. The sales person agreed that the second fertilization was done by mistake.

I called the national headquarters, and they gave me another number. I called and got up with someone who told me the manager Brian ** would come out that day. I never received a follow-up call to reschedule my service nor any further communication with TruGreen until today (June 11), when I called to see why I was being ignored. I indicated to the very discourteous agent I spoke to that I wanted to speak with a manager, but was told the manager was at a conference and could not be reached. This company is unbelievable. After contracting for comprehensive lawn care program in April 2013, I became suspicious when I received no confirmation of my transaction. This led to my doing additional research on this shoddy outfit and led me to incredible evidence of their utter incompetence (best case) or scam artists (worst case). In any event, I then canceled service. Again - no confirmation. Charges remained on my credit card for WEEKS. In the meantime, I called and/or emailed TruGreen customer service repeatedly. No response. Disputed the charges on my credit card, so I have the last laugh.

However, incredibly, I just last night received a "Welcome to TruGreen" email from these clowns. I called Customer Service again, who assured me the service is indeed canceled. I nevertheless am suspicious that they might indeed still show up. So I then called the local office which routes to, you guessed it, the dreaded call center. This is truly one of the worst service experiences I can recall. STAY AWAY FROM TRUGREEN!

She was staying with me a few days, and when I took her home, we saw a TruGreen sign in the front yard. I was getting ready to call TruGreen when Mom looked out the back door. There was a sign in the back yard. Hmm...the backyard has a 5-foot chain-link fence that has a padlock on the gate. The gate had been pried open at the bottom. It now will not close shut - it leaves a 6-inch gap and is slanting sideways. I called what I thought was a local number but actually goes into multi-state operators. They made arrangements for the technician and manager to come between noon and 5 pm. They were no-shows and no-calls. After eight calls to the multi-state people, no one has contacted us.

Most of my issues with TruGreen mirror a lot of what other reviewers here have to say. I have used them for many years (in Southeastern Michigan) and enjoyed great service. But starting in 2012 that changed for the very worse, when my local TruGreen service depot stopped dealing with me directly. The automated scheduling system refuses to recognize, despite my many calls to the 800 number to clarify that my fenced-in, dog-guarded yard is not accessible to their lawn and tree techs without someone at home... Yet they have tried to bill me for "services performed" on dates I know they couldn't have gained access.

No amount of phone calls by me attempting to fix their lousy, ineffective tree service made a difference. So I canceled it in April, only to get a call this week notifying me of a scheduled tree service in June, which I promptly canceled again (but which I'll probably get billed for anyway, and have to work to rectify). I received a call today trying to schedule me for my "annual lawn pest application". When I began to ask questions about whether it was included in my contract, I finally got the caller to admit it was really a cold-call to sell me an add-on service costing $295. When I refused, the sales guy got upset and belligerent with me.

I fully expect to begin having numerous problems with my lawn service in 2013 where none used to exist, as so many previously loyal customers have recounted here, and resulting in me eventually canceling them altogether. Then I can join the legions of ex-customers who cannot seem to get their TruGreen contracts canceled or refunded... It just never ends!

I called back and scheduled an appointment which was confirmed by their automated service call… Day of service - NO SHOW (and it was bright and sunny all week).

I then called back several days later to confirm, and they had no record of my call or service appointment. I asked for a new appointment and was given one. Again, I received the automated service confirmation call, and yet again no service on the scheduled day... but my neighbor got service?! I called again and complained that I wanted to cancel my service (which I had paid in full) if they did not have a manager contact me back and have service out by this weekend. I was assured by the customer service rep that a branch manager would call me by the end of business that day (call never happened), and that a service technician would be out to re-apply my needed service.

I strongly urge anyone requiring lawn service for fertilization, etc., to use another company - any other company, or simply do it yourself. Anything is better than this sort of treatment by this company. They take your money and just run.

I called TruGreen to complain that our lawn had strips of weed so it was obvious that the technician only treated part of our lawn for weed control. They stated that the technician would be out in 10 days. I inquired that this is not your guarantee for defective work. They stated that was his next scheduled visit on our contract. I stated that is not a guarantee at all as his past work was deficient and required immediate weed control spraying. They moved him up to 2 business days.

I postponed my cutting so he could spray weeds. He never showed. I called and they stated he was coming on his next scheduled day so there was absolutely no guarantee. I cancelled my service and demanded my prepayment returned for services not done. I have called three times to get back my pre-pay funds. It has been 6 weeks and still no refund. In addition, this branch will do services not requested or part of the contract and overbill you. They put down lime in early February. No one does that in MD. They only put one bag of lime when they would need over 24 bags to do our lawn so they are misapplying the rate needed. I would not recommend them to anyone ever. Their tree service is even worse. The technician selectively fertilizes trees, but never does more than 25% of your trees. BAD NEWS.

I was also told by the tech and company phone operator when signing up that the total for the year would be $598. My monthly bill was $77.14 every month which equaled $925.68! I finally broke down and called to cancel my service. After explaining my situation, I was immediately transferred and given the spiel that I needed to give the lawn time, and a service representative was going to come out to look at the grass. I pointed out that my original start date was September, and that I was paying WAY over the specified amount I was originally quoted at.

At this point I said, "I appreciate the job you're trying to do for your company, but I'd like to cancel my service immediately." I was told they would cancel his account but they wanted to be paid for their last application. I agreed and sent them a check. This did NOT stop their applications! I went down to Tennessee for the month of March to visit my mom who I had placed in a nursing home after Dad's death. I was surprised to see the TruGreen flag in my folks' yard.

When I called their customer service center, I was told that the account was cancelled per my request. Next thing I knew I was contacted by their collection agency wanting another month's payment. I was told by the attorney handling my dad's probate to send him a check made out to TruGreen and his office would forward the check along with a letter requesting that they discontinue billing my father (my parents' mail was rerouted to my home in Minnesota).

After receiving several more letters from the collection folks, I called the local TruGreen office in Ooltewah, Tennessee, and explained that my father's house was now empty and it was most likely being sold by Medicaid, and I would not be paying another dime for their services. The manager was very apologetic and she told me that she would call their headquarters to make sure it was cancelled, and she would remove the last fee (that they were STILL coming out and placing their sign in my dead father's yard and billing him!). I then received a letter from their collection agency stating that "their customer has been paid in full."

Now it is May 28th and believe it or not, I just got another bill from them! I immediately called and was told that, "Yes, the account was cancelled." Now I plan to go down there in three weeks to visit my mother and I will have to spend a day bringing my dad's death certificate to these fools' office. My friends have told me to just forget about it but this borders on predatory business practices in my mind. Therefore I will not leave their offices until I have a written statement showing a zero balance and a closed account. Please! Please, please do not do any business with these people! However, a technician did show up on May 13 unannounced. He rang the doorbell; my wife was home but did not answer the door. She called me instead to inquire if TruGreen had called me in advance.

Before we could conclude the conversation, the so-called technician went to his car and returned with a bill for a service he never performed. He placed the bill at the front door and left. I immediately call the local TruGreen office (Fayetteville, NC) to report/complain about the matter. I was told not to worry about the bill, and that they'd take care of the bill. About a week later, the Fayetteville manager who identified herself as Carrie called and left a voice message stating that the services billed were done and I should pay the bill. The problem is, my property is fenced in with a six foot high timber panel with a locked gate access. You need a key to get in the yard, and it could only be opened from the inside. This technician was clearly deceitful in billing us, and the Fayetteville manager, without properly investigating the complaint, vouched that the service was indeed performed. I wonder how many other clients have been ripped off this way.

When unethical acts are discovered in organizations, it is often found that in most instances there is a knowing cooperation or compliancy that facilitates the acceptance and perpetuation of unethical conduct. The Fayetteville, NC TruGreen business office seems to have a pervasive culture of deceit to boost short- term earnings, in the short summer season. The company placed certain performance pressures on its employees that often drive them to unethical behavior or to even break the law to meet their performance objective.

I called back Wednesday morning to report that no one has called me back! I was told that they see that I am scheduled for Friday. Again, I told them I don't want Friday, and that I need someone now! I was told again that someone would get back to me within the day. Again, no one called me back. I spoke to Jennifer at 8:30am today, who assured me someone would call me back.

We got an automated call around 2pm stating they are doing an application tomorrow. I called back and spoke to yet another woman. I told her, “How do you send someone out to do an application when you don't know what the problem is?” I asked to speak to her supervisor, and she said he would call me right back. One and a half hours later, I looked through our old credit card bills and found a local number. I called it and spoke to Mike. He tells me someone will be out tomorrow to apply stuff to the lawn. Again, I said I want someone today, and not tomorrow. I want someone to see this mess before anything is put down. He tries to tell me that their person always calls back within 48 hours, and I pointed out that this is call number 6 in 4 days. No one has bothered to show up or call me back! At this point, I want all monies refunded for the past year’s lack of services. This lawn and flower beds did not get this way overnight! Plus, I looked at the complaints here and there were 530 on Monday. Now, there are over 590! What is going on with TruGreen?

Whatever you do, do not engage this company! I signed up and paid in advance for lawn care for my 1/2 acre property in Smithtown. They missed every appointment despite a computer-generated call the night before advising me they would be there "tomorrow". I would call and speak to the very nice but totally unempowered CSR who would assure me that she was putting me back on the schedule and that someone would be there "this week". Never happened. Since it is mid May and the pre-emergent crab grass control never was put down, I called to cancel the contract. Despite dozens of calls during March, April and May, no one ever returned my call. I found out a few times that I was speaking to an answering service in Rhode Island!

I signed up four weeks ago. After one week, I called the local office number they provided when I signed up. That call was redirected to the central number. They told me that they would make a note for a call back. A couple days later, after no call back, I called the local number again and still got redirected to the central number. Again, they made a note. Still no call back. A week goes by, still no contact from this company; no healthy lawn assessment, no note, nothing, just a new account mailing thanking me for signing up. I called and got listened to. He told me there were no previous notes in my account that I had ever called. He told me they did an application the week before.

When I told him that no one left a flag in my lawn and no one left the healthy lawn assessment by my door, he told me he would escalate this to district manager. He typed up my information, etc and told me to expect a call back by next day. Still no call. A week goes by, no call. I got the bill for an application. I called today to ask to cancel the account. The service person connected me to voicemail. I hung up and called again. I got the same service person and told her to transfer me to a person who can handle the request instead of throwing me into voicemail again. She did this.

I spoke to a guy who asked why I wanted to cancel. I told him I have heard from no one and got billed for something that no one can prove actually happened. He put me on hold for a long time. Eventually (after about 5 minutes of no sounds), I had to hang up. I don't know if my account is cancelled yet. I'll have to call back. I didn't get a confirmation number for the cancellation. This company is not honest.

We made a one-year contract with TruGreen Chemlawn for lawn fertilization and weed killer application 7 times in the next year. They were effective in having our information and charging our credit card in no time. They said they would show up within the next 7 days. They did not show up. Nine days after our contract over the phone, I started to call. The first three calls were redirected three times each. Finally, I was able to talk to a representative. He said he cannot help me because there are too many customers on the line and my call would be directed to a satellite messaging center. He was rude at times. I had this same exercise about four times over the same day as if I did not have anything else to do.

Finally, I decided to check the internet for their reviews to find that 99 % of the reviews had a one star review over five stars. The same story and dissatisfaction all over the country. Finally, I stopped wasting my time by calling the dispute center of my reliable credit card company. They nicely disputed and refunded me for their charge. Stay away from this company. I am sure there should be more legitimate and effective local services for lawn care, fertilizer application and weed killer application. Stay away. We have had TruGreen Chemlawn fertilize our lawn and aerate every year since putting in our lawn 6 years ago. We have always had a lush, full green lawn which we had received a lot of compliments on, and also thinking we had sod. TruGreen came to fertilize our lawn last fall and put an application on in the middle of October and again the first part of November. After the spring thaw of snow, we have numerous large brown dead areas in our yard and it was destroyed. It is like night and day from what it has looked like in the past. I have called them and they came out to fertilize and apply weed control on our lawn on May 10th for the first time this year and indicated that the brown areas are from excess thatch.

Their recommendation was to properly irrigate the lawn, mow in different directions and aerate on a regular basis. We do all of this every year. I believe it is due to over fertilizing too late in the year and has destroyed/killed our grass. I will not recommend TruGreen any longer! I'm presently waiting for a call back from the operations manager to discuss this further. Now, we are dealing with removing the dead sod and having to re-seed large areas of our yard which shouldn't have happened, nor should we have to spend our extra time and money. They guarantee a healthy lawn and they destroyed ours.

Before TruGreen, I had no weeds in my front yard. Today, after a year with TruGreen, the front yard looks horrible and has weeds all over the place. In my opinion, I have wasted all money that I have paid to this company and that none of the treatments they performed made any impact at all on preventing weeds from returning. They have only made it worse for allowing weeds to start growing again in my once beautiful front yard. I'm going back to Forever Gro but not before I post everywhere how truly unprofessional this organization is and the lack of experts that they have on staff. I had TruGreen services in the past. There was one guy I worked with and he was very good. I told him that I wanted to be home when the treatments are done. He obliged and was so nice. However, then TruGreen said they can't let me request one specific guy. That's when it went all downhill. Last year, I made it very clear I want to be home. I had this request for several reasons: 1) I want to see where they apply it; 2) I wanted to talk with them about any issues with the lawn; 3) I wanted to be sure they didn't get any on my flowers or vegetable garden; 4) I wanted to be sure my windows were closed, so it didn't get inside the house especially since I have cats, and they sit in the window; and 5) I wanted to be sure they applied it under good weather conditions, like not when it's windy, which it could hit my gardens and also so they don't apply it when it's about to rain, especially downpour.

Well, they said they'd do the best they can. One time last year, they showed up and I caught them before they applied. I told him not to apply it. We're supposed to have rain tonight. As usual, they try to just get you off the list by saying that if it doesn't work, they'll come back. I don't want to deal with all that and I told him to leave and come back when the weather will be good for at least 24 hours after application. Then, another time last year, I came to the door and there was the TruGreen leaflet they leave. I had been home and inside the entire time. I called and they said that he rang the doorbell and no one answered. I told them that was a complete lie.

Then, they applied another treatment later in the year and it rained cats and dogs that evening. It didn't do any good. I was so burdened down with personal issues in my life that I needed to just set this problem aside for that time. I finally got around to calling them a couple months later. They said they can't do anything about it since I waited so long. I asked them if they'd just provide a complementary treatment for winter, and they would not. I have to admit it was my fault I waited so long, but I just couldn't deal with them again at that time because they became a real problem in my life. They have bombarded me with mail ever since. One of the salespersons came to my door a couple weeks ago. I told them the problems I had with them. He said they now guarantee no weeds, etc. Well, I went ahead and said that I'd try them one more time.

So far, all I've had were problems. I wanted my lawn aerated and then the first treatment. They put these on the schedule without telling me. I just happened to call into customer service because I was anxious to get it aerated before three days of rain. I said you can't aerate when it's muddy. They said they can. They had the treatment scheduled after the aeration, again, without telling me. Luckily, I happen to call in, as I said. I told them I want the treatment after. Again, they told me it doesn't matter when. I told them it does because it's best to aerate and then treat because the treatment will get into the soil better. They agreed, but still stuck with "it doesn't matter" claim.

I then got the aeration scheduled for the next week, giving the lawn a couple days to dry out after our rain. I moved the treatment to the day after to be sure the aeration was done first. If I had them on the same day, they probably would've showed up to treat before aeration. I didn't want to take that chance and deal with another problem. Today, they're supposed to aerate. Well, it was 1pm and I called customer service to verify I'm on the schedule. I was. I confirmed the treatment was for tomorrow. She said she had it down for today. Again, they changed the schedule on me after I specifically had it scheduled the next day. They asked if I got a confirmation. I asked, "By email?" She said, "No, a phone call." I hadn't. I also asked about why I was told the customer service was 1-800-TruGreen; that's too many digits. She said that there's no "e" in "tru." I said I know, but there's still too many digits. She then told me to leave the "n" off, and it doesn't matter, the call will go through anyway. It looks like it does.

I told her to please let them know to aerate first, and she said she couldn't because my thing (can't recall the name) had already been sent to the local TruGreen. She said they are working late up to dark. Then she said up to 5. (Late? I thought that was standard.) Well, I'm not confident they will get both done before that and in the right order. We will see. Since I really wasn't concerned about being home during aeration and I thought they'd be done before 5, I scheduled an appointment later today at 5:20. It is very difficult to get this appointment. So now that they plan to treat it, I need to stay home. The aeration guy just showed up. Luckily, I was home. They had me down for an aeration and overseed!

Prior to purchasing the TruGreen plan, I managed my yard in which was one of the better looking yards in the neighborhood. I had a lot of weeds growing so I figured I would let TruGreen service my yard and maybe with the treatments, that they would do a better job at getting rid of the weeds. Well, they did a treatment for the weeds one week. The next day my wife noticed two large yellow patches in my backyard. When I called TruGreen back and told them about it, they told me that it sounds like my yard was diseased from watering it at the wrong time of the day. I told them that I normally water my yard at around 5:30 to 6:00 every morning and late in the evenings.

I got tired of trying to get to the write person who would listen to me, so I got rid of them. Since then I have been maintaining my yard since last fall and I hope it starts to look like it did prior to me having TruGreen treat it. Agents have been calling me to see if I would renew with them this year and I told them how unhappy I was with what had happened last year, in which seems to go in one ear and out the other. My thing is why would I use your service a second time if I am not pleased with the service you provided the first time?

First, my account was established over a month ago, and the first service was scheduled for 5 days later; they did not show. Second, when asked why no one showed, they said it was the weather. Fine; no problem. They rescheduled for 6 days out and again, they did not show even if the weather was nice! We received no explanation.

Third, we kept getting emails saying I need to sign a document for the waiver of applying chemicals on the lawn. I called my Syracuse, NY branch to say I have never received such a notice in the mail. He stated he called customer service and they never sent it out. He will email it to me since my service was in two days! I received no email and two days later, the truck still did not show up!

The final last straw was when we called them back Monday, the 29th, and said I want my account closed. He stated the truck is in my area and will service tonight; guaranteed! We waited around and again, it was a no show. I have called and cancelled my service with Trugreen for service I never got! Thank God they don’t have my credit card information yet! One is deep root, systemic fertilizing and aphicide on all 7 of my honeysuckles. And two are 3 yearly sprays on tiny apple trees for apple scab. Neither has been done. I asked if it would help if we placed long pieces of surveyor's tape on the plants to be treated. He said that would be wonderful, so April 5th, I did that. He was to be here the next week.

I called and told them not to come, that I did not want any service. I verbally cancelled my contract. They came anyway. They treated my lawn with fertilizer and pre-emergent herbicide. The problem - I had just reseeded my lawn. It had died last year. We had a drought in the mid-west. We had watering restrictions in place. TruGreen came out and treated my lawn twice knowing that it was in terrible shape and could not be watered following treatment. Their treatment this year will keep my grass seed (Kentucky Blue Grass) from germinating. I will have to do all of the work again. I had tilled the bare spots and covered them with straw or rolled seed blanket. When I called to complain, the representative told me she would have a supervisor call me and hung up.

For reasons completely unclear to me, TruGreen decided to cancel every appointment made through their national customer service line without notifying me. I had to call them to find out if a service person ever showed up my house. Keep in mind that it happened 4 separate times and only after I prepaid them for 7 treatments for $600! Despite several requests to have a local branch manager in Bucks County contact me, no one ever called me to apologize or explain why they kept cancelling service and could not treat my lawn. The back-to-back calls to their corporate customer support occurred over 4 weeks and didn't phase them at all.

Eventually, after 4 weeks of my lawn being neglected and being out of $600, I had enough of the runaround and called the corporate office to cancel all future treatments. Though the call center agents were cordial, the person who I had to talk to, who handled all cancellations, was a complete moron. First he tried to tell me that they were only going to reimburse me $499 and not $600. But after I pointed out all of the services and taxes that I paid, he agreed and then abruptly hung up. I called back and then was able to speak to someone with better arithmetic skills, who promised that they would credit me the full amount.

By the way, I have not seen a dime yet but I will give them a few more days before I call my attorney. If you live in Bucks County, PA, I would highly discourage you from hiring them. Avoid the shadiness, hassle and heartburn.

I was guilted into a year package based on the fact that my elderly neighbors had both purchased same for their homes "and certainly I wouldn't want my weed seeds to go over to their yards." These people are scam artists who will be kind to you until they get your money in their hands and then never show up again. My yard is 80% weeds and worse than when I did my own spot treating. In Maryland, there is a homeowner's protection system and they are completely corrupt. I've had a case pending with a lawyer for almost two years and the statute of limitations is getting ready to run out. So that's an extra $500 for an attorney, who admitted that the state is corrupt and he wasn't big enough to change that.

Take my advice and do your own yard work or have a family member you trust do it with you. There may be some reputable companies out there, but as soon as they find out they can take your money and run in this state, they won't be for long. I'm not going to waste money on yet another attorney and you shouldn't either. People, just learn from my mistakes. I was a Truegreen customer for many years and was pleased with their service. However, about a year ago I began having trouble with my lawn. I had a really bad weed problem and called the office to complain. They came out and treated my lawn for weeks according to the invoice stuck on my door (they never knocked so I could talk to them) with no results. I kept calling and they came again to re-treat. This went on for several months. I think they used weed fertilizer instead of weed killer. And by now I had more weeds than grass.

In the meantime they charged me for fertilizing my lawn twice in a 5-week period. By this time over half of the grass in my backyard was dead. I called the office 3 times about this and asked for someone to come out to look at my yard and was told a supervisor would call me back to set up an appointment but got no return calls. I called a 4th time to cancel my service and explained why. The only response I got about this over the phone was OK. I'll never recommend or use them again.

I responded to their letter and they came out and gave me an estimate for lawn care. They came out two times for services. In the fall, they sold me an aeration/lime/seed package for $1291.15. Later in the fall, they applied fertilizer with lime.

They said they would be back in February to March to apply a moss control. At the beginning of March, I started calling to find out when they would be coming for that treatment. I called 5 times; I talked to the main office 3 times and to the tech who last worked on my yard 2 times. I was told they would be out here the week before Easter. When they did not come, I called again. Nate said he would be out on Monday after Easter. He arrived saying he just could not continue to service my yard. He did perform the moss treatment after I lost my temper.

I called the regional manager, Todd, who told me he had handled the whole state of Texas. After reviewing my complaint he called and said they would no longer service the area. They sold me a service and then dropped the ball. I would not have purchased the aeration/lime and seed if I had known that they would not continue to maintain the lawn. They failed their own guarantee. If they did not want the business, they should not have taken it to begin with. Thank goodness I did not prepay for a year of services.

We were overseas and rented our house out for several years. During that time, my lawn got pretty bad with weeds and bare spots so when we came back, we signed up with TruGreen for a year, prepaid. They came out, sprayed the weeds. The weeds would partially die off, come back and they would come back and spray again. For the bare spots, I agreed for a power seed and plug treatment (which was extra). I also had moss growing towards the back of the backyard, and I agreed to a pH test and pH treatment (again, extra charge).

After one year of little or no real changes, my wife and I decided we had wasted our money and wouldn't use TruGreen again. Then a few weeks ago (mid-February), I came home from work and saw the TruGreen flag in my yard along with the statement of work done wedged in my screen door. I thought this was still part of my annual contract since I initially prepaid for a year's service around late March of last year. The other day, I received a bill for $75. I called TruGreen, was on hold for almost 15 minutes and when I finally got to talk with someone, they took my info and told me that my local branch office would call me back within 24 hours. Seriously?

Needless to say, no one called me back so after 48 hours, I called them again. I was told that they were sorry, and they were trying to find a better way to explain to people that the annual contract renews automatically unless cancelled by the customer. I told them a good way would be to let the customer know upfront instead of having to find out the hard way. The person then tried to get me to sign up for yet another year so they could come back and really take care of my lawn and get it to my satisfaction.

Here are some pictures of what my backyard looks like today. Bare spots, check. Moss, check.

I called a couple days later - it was a Saturday. They said their customer service was not open on the weekend, but they would get a message to them and someone would call me back during the week. I called that Monday. The customer service agent said that they would send a message to the guy who did my yard and promised he would call me back the next day. No call.

I called them back today, Thursday morning. I asked to speak to a manager. She apologized, but said, "We don't have to pay for the service," and she would get with her manager and someone would be out today. They would call me before they come out. No call. At 3:30, I called them back and told them to cancel my service. I wasn't paying the bill and we would find someone else. The guy on the phone had the nerve to ask me why would they not purposely call us back as if I were lying. I was heated! TruGreen provided really bad service and performed unauthorized charges to my credit card. On Oct. 5, 2012, I called TruGreen to ask about their lawn service and ordered their 1-year plan with $400. The sales promised me they would provide unlimited time of services until I got satisfied with everything in my lawn. They would charge me no more than $400 for the whole year's service. It's a special deal. On Oct. 11, 2012, the technician came and told me they would come just 4 times a year regarding my plan, and charged me $100 for each time. I was so confused because I was told unlimited times by the sales. I was thinking about cancelling their contract, but finally I decided to give them a chance to see whether their service was really worth the money.

They provided the first application and charged me $100. A week later, my lawn started to be greener, and that satisfied me. But there were still so many kinds of weeds in my front and back yard. On Nov. 10, 2012, I called TruGreen to ask about the weed problem. I told them that they didn't provide any weeds control during the first application so there were quite a lot weeds currently. They said reluctantly that they would send some technician next week. I waited for 10 days. Nobody came. I called again, and this time the technician came, after 1 week, during the rain. And the weather forecast told that the rain would go on for the following 2 days. They sprayed my lawn during the rain and left me a note saying, "do not water the lawn for the next 24hr", which was really ironic.

I found that I had been deceived and chose a really bad company. I decided to cancel their service. On Dec. 11, 2012, I came home seeing TruGreen's flag in my front yard and another $100 bill was lying in my mail box. I was pissed off because since there were 4 services total for the whole year, which means one service every three months, or to say one service for each season. Why did they come again just 1.5 months after the first application? What's more, they came without any notification to me beforehand.

So my back yard was locked for safety concern. They just fertilized my front yard and left me a $100 bill. I called them immediately and asked to cancel their service and stop the contract. I also refused to pay for the $100 bill because it was totally invalid. It was confirmed in the phone that my service was cancelled and that $100 bill would be waived. But I had a feeling that things would not be so easy. On Dec. 18, 2012, the TruGreen technician came again and wanted to deliver an application to my yard. Thanks to God that I was at home that afternoon. I stopped him immediately and told him that I had cancelled my contract with TruGreen. He seemed to be confused and said sorry to me, then left.

I called TruGreen right away and found that my contract wasn't cancelled as the representative told me before. I asked them to cancel it and to be safe, I called them three times that day. I spoke to different persons to make sure my that contract was cancelled. Then I realized I had to check my credit card statement and no surprise, that $100 was billed to my card on Dec.12, 2012. I disputed it right away and called them again to check about this. They said that they felt sorry about this and would have their manager call me back regarding the billing issue.

It's Jan. 17, 2013, I definitely didn't receive any call from their manager since that day on. And today, I received a $100 bill from TruGreen through the mail reminding that I hadn't paid the $100 since Dec. 12, 2012. Though I was really tired of this, I still called TruGreen once more. The representative told me there was no bill in my account and my contract was really terminated. She promised that I would not receive this bill anymore. I really wish so. But I can't take the risk to believe their promise again. I called my credit card company to block TruGreen to be safe and filed this complaint.

I contacted them to give me a price for spraying eight of my thirty-foot hemlock for a pest called woolly adelgid. They gave me a price significantly lower than other tree companies. Then someone came out to take a look at the trees and they told me they could not treat the trees because they were too big. The representative said they were really only capable of treating landscape shrubbery. So, I cancelled the service for which I had already given my credit card information.

Weeks later, someone from a corporate office (I think in Texas, I am in Massachusetts) called me and demanded to know why I cancelled the service. I explained that I was told they could not provide the service. He said that wasn't true and said someone from my area would call me back. This began weeks of calls, some saying they could do it, some saying they couldn't. Eventually an appointment was made (I have dogs so they assured me they would call ahead when they were coming so I could keep the dogs away from the treatment area). They were supposed to come on a Friday - they did not.

They showed up on Monday unannounced. The treatment was supposed to be a root injection and spraying of each of the Hemlocks. I watched, unable to intervene because I was babysitting for twin baby grandchildren, as a man parked his truck far away from the trees, dragged a hose over to the trees and spritzed something around the bases of the trees (definitely not a root injection). He went back to the truck and dragged a hose over to one of the end trees and stood in one spot and sprayed about halfway up one tree on one side. He went back to the truck and I thought he was going to move it closer to the trees so he could get around them and get a more powerful nozzle so he could reach the tops. He was in his truck for 20 minutes and left.

I immediately called TruGreen to complain and was told a manager would call - no one called. That was the first of a dozen calls to TruGreen to complain, being told a manager would call, and no one calling me. They collected the amount from my checking account with my credit card number in the amount we originally agreed to as I continued to call them. Then they attempted to draw an additional amount, triple of the original agreed to amount, but it bounced back because there wasn't enough money in my account. I called again to cancel and asked for a manager to no avail. I had to cancel my credit card because of their fraudulent, dishonest, totally incompetent, scamming practices. I continue to receive bills from them and am considering taking them to court to try and get back the money they have taken from me for doing nothing.

Sometimes, they came to do additional services, which I had not ordered, and added them to my bill. When I complained about weeds, I was told to replace my lawn! I tried to get a service call for 3 months, calling 1-2 times per week. Some workers were very rude and argumentative. At the corporate level, they pretended to care and said it would be taken care of. I believed them, but nobody ever came, yet a bill came! When I tried to have the bill removed and cancel service, it took over 6 calls to corporate. I was assured it was taken care of, but each time I called, it was as though I had never called. Worst service ever!

I have used TruGreen at 2 previous homes and signed up again in August 2012 after moving to a new home. Even though the Scotts Lawn Service representative actually came out and gave me a full analysis of my lawn and shrubs, I went with TruGreen because they were "significantly" less expensive, or so it seemed. It turns out the sales rep who quoted my job on the phone using a satellite photo misled me by making me think I was getting 7 treatments for the remainder of the year. The fact is that the prorated amount he kept pushing applied to 3 prorated treatments. I understand prorating, but he was specific in making me think I was getting 7 treatments. He even listened as I was calculating the cost of each treatment based on the total he quoted, totally dishonest. I paid for both lawn & shrub care upfront by credit card.

Now, over 3 months later, I am continuously getting past due reminders and calls wanting payment. I have never had any past due account. Every time I call, they are very apologetic and assure me that my account is not delinquent and that they have the problem corrected. I'm over it. I will definitely use Scotts in 2013 which, by the way, I used in Florida and was happy with the service.

They are brutal. I was unhappy with their service - our lawn wasn't great (or good) given the years of investment - so I pulled the plug on their service. But guess what? Like the girl said in Poltergeist, "They're back!" They just keep returning despite being told no. And of course, they bill you. I've told their crews on more than a few occasions to go away as I had already cancelled, but they continue to be dispatched. Then, they phone you over and over to collect on services you did not authorize. They will call you 3 times a day. Even when you explain your issue and they said okay, they will still call back a few hours later. They will call you at 5:30 PM on a Saturday night asking why you put your services "on hold" - despite me telling them to cancel numerous times. I imagine them similar to a stalker girlfriend or boyfriend who continues to show up even after being told no several times. A restraining order should be taken out on these nutjobs. I absolutely hate TruGreen with every fiber of my being. If you seek substandard lawn care and enjoy abuse and stress, TruGreen is for you. My suggestion, however, is to run far, far away!

When I called, they said they were updating their computers and were a little behind. The lady told me I would receive a call about 2 or 3 days before they arrived. I never heard from them until they showed up at my house on Oct. 27th, 2012 the day of Hurricane Sandy and aerated and seeded my yard. I didn't know until I got home from work. I called them that day and got the call center, left a message. She said someone would call me within 24 hours and again nothing. Then they showed up on November 10 for tree and shrub service that I did not order and again on November 25th for tree and shrub service. They continually call before 7:00AM to let me know that they are coming out to treat the lawn. Yesterday they didn't even show up after calling. Last time I complained about the weeds, the guy told me "They are only small ones." What is that supposed to mean? I also complained about the bare spots. "It'll grow back. We've had a very dry summer, you need to water more." I watered plenty and besides, the guy before that told me not to water so much. They called again on Monday, November 12, saying that they were going to spray my bushes on Tuesday, November 13. I called again and was told that they were converting to a new computer system and probably did not get the message, and that they would make sure they got the message. I told them that I would fire them if they came. They came on November 13, so I called and fired them. I called on November 14 and told them that I was not going to pay for service that I had already canceled. They said they must not have gotten the message, but that they saw where my account was cancelled. Again, they gave the excuse that they were converting their computers.

Today, November 24, 2012, I received a bill in the mail charging me for "Spray Insect control" with the service date of November 19, 2012! That was 6 days after I canceled their service. This is totally unacceptable! I have called them several times, and I will not pay for anything after I canceled their service. They could not give me a cancellation number since they were converting the computer. Their service had become sloppy after a while. They said that they sprayed for weeds, but I still find weeds that they sprayed for. They always find extra services to charge me for - services which I did not ask. I am totally disgusted with these people, and I suggest another service - any service - that is not TruGreen.

I had TruGreen taking care of my lawn now for 2 years, but no more! I have just read some other reviews and see there are many others that have let them go. The first year went well and I had the nicest lawn in the subdivision. They called several times and told me I needed extra treatments. I usually did what they recommended because they are the professionals, right? In September, they came while I was gone and aerated, put down seed and left a note on my door not to mow for 4-6 weeks. I called them very upset, because we were still having hot weather and the grass needed to be mowed every week. In fact, it was the day before my mowers were coming and the grass was already up to my ankles even in just one week. I told the lady I talked to my contact and she said I couldn't mow, but be sure to keep watering. I asked for a supervisor to call me.

I did get the call within a day or two. After we talked, he said he would have them come again at no charge the 1st week of November and redo. I thought that would be fair but about a week later, I got a call to let me know they would be out. I told them no because of the need to keep mowing, etc., but then they did just the opposite and didn't follow through. I finally called them the 3rd week of October to make sure I was on the books, only to find out I was not. The lady in the office said she would talk to her boss and call me later that afternoon or the next morning. I stayed home and waited for the call, which I did not receive. I finally called her again 2 days later and she said she hadn't been able to talk with her boss, but they would get out there that week for sure.

I told her I was dropping them because I do not appreciate being lied to and strung along. I feel that because I'm a widow, they feel they could get away with it. They were more interested in making an appointment to come out and go into my attic, check the insulation and give me a quote on how they could save me money. My house is 7 years old and no problems. They had tried twice to set this up and the last time, the guy said "Fine, I'll wait to hear from you if you change your mind and would like a free check." The Monday after I told the office lady I was finished with them, they could keep their 50 cents' worth of lawn seed and had lost a good customer. I always paid them immediately after a treatment on my lawn.

Two days later, on Monday, I got a call from the guy I had talked to and he said, "Hi Mrs. **. Are we still on?" I asked on for what and told him he had said if I changed my mind and wanted the free quote, I was to call him. Besides, I had fired TruGreen for all of their ** they were giving me - not making appointments, not returning calls, etc. He said, "Sorry, I bothered you" and hung up. I did receive a call 2 days later from their main office in Dallas to see what it would take to keep me as a customer. I told him nothing, I was done! I also told him he not only lost me, but my uncle had just told me he was planning to call them in the spring and have them start taking care of his lawn. I did assure him I could be his best or worst advertisement and unfortunately, it will be the worst.

We used TruGreen lawn service and cancelled by telephone due to total dissatisfaction and the outrageous application price (even though we thought we would give them a try). During the initial call to cancel our service, we were offered a $10 discount to continue service. At that time, it was declined and Nick was repeatedly advised by me that, "I will discuss that with my husband and will get back to you. If you do not hear back from me, do not continue service. Further, your price is considerably higher than your competitors' and if we are paying Saks Fifth Avenue prices, we don't expect Walmart results."

That was in early September 2012. A lawn application was due at the end of September. I (nor my husband) ever contacted them back to reinstate our service with them and hired a new lawn care company. To my surprise, on October 3, 2012, there was a notice in our door that they applied a lawn application. I immediately called TruGreen and talked with a woman who clearly stated that she saw the note that Nick wrote and she would make sure that no bill would be sent for the application that day. Well, to my surprise, today, I received a past due notice for that service that should have never been done.

I called and talked to Ryan, who is not at the address who issued the past due notice since the phone calls bounce around to whoever is available, and he rudely advised after explaining my initial phone call to cancel, that "well, that's not what the notes that I'm reading say and you're responsible to pay the bill because it was not approved by our accounting department and you never cancelled." After further discussion, I requested to speak with his supervisor and was given his name, Drew **, but he was not available at that time. I have looked at the many complaints about TruGreen and most are not very favorable with issues such as this in addition to others.

I contracted with TruGreen two years ago after being dissatisfied with my previous lawn service. I contracted for four treatments annually to take care of the weeds and core aeration. The first year, they did great. My big mistake was pre-paying the account. This year they started bombarding me for additional services. I called them several times to tell them not to send people out, unsolicited, to "survey" my yard and landscaping and that I did not want anything other than weed control. Being a dry summer here this year, the weeds could be especially prolific.

When I got my second service for the year, they put down insect control instead of weed control with fertilizer and the crabgrass and black spurge took off. I called them and complained, they assured me someone would come out in the next few days and treat for weeds. A week later I got a call from a guy who said he was the technician for my yard and that my next scheduled service was going to be in a couple of days and if he did the weed service now, it would mess up the treatment schedule. I told him I didn't care what he did and when, as long as he killed the weeds. He said he would be out in the next three days.

Ten days later, my yard was treated; no weed treatment, just fertilizer. I was furious and called the local franchise and asked to speak to the manager, John **. I was told he was unavailable but would call me back soon. A week went by, no call. I called again and they assured me I would hear from John in 48 hours. I told them if I didn't, the next time I called it would be to cancel. Three days later, I called and cancelled my account and told them I wanted a refund for the remaining services. I was given a confirmation number and told I would get a $149 refund. Considering how unresponsive they were, I figured it was probably a write-off.

Today, over two months after I cancelled, I came home to find a guy aerating my lawn. He told me he was sent out by TruGreen to aerate, seed, and spread lime. I told him I had cancelled my account two months ago, I wasn't going to pay for it, and he needed to pack his ** and git. I called the 800-number this time and was told that indeed my account was cancelled but they didn't see where a request for refund had been put in. I told them they had seven days to send me my refund or I was going to start with my State Attorney General and end with the Federal Trade Commission. I have been assured a refund will be enroute. Anyone wants to bet on the outcome? Odds are 5 to 7 against. The attorney doesn't need to contact me yet.

Here is why: In September 2011, I received a coupon to get one application for $25. They did not do what they promised, so I called and the office said they would send a tech out to redo the fertilizer spread. The tech never came out the second time. When at the end of the day I called the office, I was told he was already out there. Usually they leave an invoice, I was told nothing was left. Anyways, I called the manager, the district manager and the national office to complain. That did not work. In the meantime, I was getting calls from the collection agency. Finally I paid to stop the harassment. Do you think I would do business with these people ever again? No, never.

Then in August of 2012, I got an automated reminder call saying my services was due in 2 days and to cancel, call a local number. When I did, I told the operator that I never called for any service and I do not want and do not like TruGreen for how I was treated in the past. She confirmed my cancellation and that was the end. That is what I thought. Then I got a bill for $123.17 for service. I called TruGreen and spoke to a Rebecca, who said that I had set up a service call and it was cancelled, but I still have to pay. I explained to her I never called in for service, she argued that I did. I asked her to produce the contract or the recording of the call that suggested I had called for service. She asked for all my information as if setting up a new account, and finally there was an "Oh, there you are." Then she proceeded to give me some excuse that according to their studies, it's best to wait until later in the year to do the first treatment. "That would've been fine," I told her, "except you had already come by my neighbor's house twice this year." That's when she said she would get someone out there the next day.

Things went along fine until the end of the summer when I get a letter asking for the whole season's work when it was supposed to have been drafted from my account. After another excuse, that payment was declined by the bank, which again is bogus since I have overdraft protection. If that ever happened, I told the young lady that I couldn't pay the full amount at once but I would send them half. She said that would be fine. So I sent it in. Next month, instead of an invoice showing my past payment and amount due, I got a collection notice. Once again, I talked to the girl who said that it's completely out of their hands when it comes to those, even though the previous month, she said it was fine to pay it in two payments. The overall content of this essay will be broken down into four parts regarding issues in customer service, issues with employee payroll, issues with the sales force, and issues surrounding the high turnover of employees that the TruGreen Chemlawn company experiences. I myself was an employee of the TruGreen Chemlawn company and have held the majority of entry-level positions within the company. I believe that my essay will help to clarify these issues because of my unique perspective within the company.

The customer service department of the TruGreen Chemlawn corporation is designed in a way that is purposefully not helpful. Let's not forget that these people take calls from consumers who have been done wrong, and are constantly made the scapegoat for all of the shortcomings of the corporation. Having been an employee of the company, I have had my fair share of experiences with angry consumers. People say nasty things to those who are undeserving of the ridicule, which consequently hardens the employee to completely disregard the consumer's opinions as well as their problems. Those who answer the phones are not to blame, and due to the call center put in place by the corporation, often times are not even local to you. The real problem with the customer service at TruGreen is that the process is structured to delude consumers into thinking the issues have been noted and handled, when in reality the problem is just handed off to another individual who is often times already burdened down with an unbearable workload.

Customer service representatives have to be as much of a salesman as the force of salesmen located two hallways away from them. They are required to save a certain amount of consumers who wish to cancel services. This is the part where relations which are already troubled between the corporation and consumer take a turn for the worse, as representatives who are on their cancel/save borderline will tell you the account has been canceled, when in reality it is listed in the computer as a cancel-save in order to avoid the consequences of poor numbers. These numbers are taken by the corporate office as a reflection of the representative's poor job performance as opposed to a consequence of the cancer that is corporate business. That is why it is fundamentally important that consumers follow these two simple rules when cancelling their accounts with the TruGreen company. The first piece of advice is to never cancel with a salesman. Very rarely does a salesman take time out of his busy schedule to perform customer service tasks, for reasons which will be addressed later in this essay. This is often the convenient solution for the consumer, as the salesmen call multiple times daily and the customer service representatives never call, but it will simply lead to further frustration on behalf of the consumer.

The second bit of advice I have for the consumer is to always demand a confirmation number from the customer service representative. This forces the representative to do the right thing and close the account. If possible, obtain the direct number to your local office to avoid the rabbit-hole that is the call center, and be sure to log the names of all representatives you have dealt with. Following this advice will result in a more efficient, less frustrating, and foolproof method of cancellation. With a confirmation number in record, any further services completed by the corporation cannot be billed in the name of the consumer. One of the biggest problems in the issue of customer service regarding the TruGreen company is in the call center that ServiceMaster has put in place to deal with the overwhelming amount of calls the company receives. Attempting to reach customer service locally is a headache because upon the consumer's request of such, the consumer is then placed into a vortex of call forwarding to several location throughout the continental US. This is the major force behind the consumer's opinion that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Customer service logs are recorded locally, and as result each time to talk to a representative at a different location they often times have no way of confirming your customer service history.

This structure of customer service is designed with intent. The left hand does in fact know what the right hand is doing, and doesn't care. In the technology industry, we would compare TruGreen's method of customer service with obfuscation. It is designed in a way that is purposefully misleading in order to confuse the customer into continuing service without any real changes being made. One feature of the service TruGreen has recently implemented to deal with the demand of consumers to be pre-notified of service dates is a computer system called Trudy. Trudy simply calls the list of scheduled customers one or two business days in advance to their scheduled treatment date. If workloads were scheduled in a way that they could easily be performed within a reasonable workday, this would never be an issue and I am sure that consumers would be quite pleased.

The problem is that TruGreen seeks to maximize profit by overloading their employees with work; more work than what can be performed correctly within a reasonable amount of time. It is the policy of the company to call customers when an appointment is missed, but often times there are a multiple consumers whose appointments have been missed. After working 10-12 hours, the employee is then expected to call and apologize to the consumers whose appointment were missed, which can often times lead to long conversations on the phone with consumers who are not happy with the condition of their lawn. In many cases, the already frustrated employees simply write this responsibility off and go home to their families.

In my research of customer complaints, I have noticed that there is a lot of hostility toward the employees themselves. Now although the actions of a certain minority of these employees are simply inexcusable, I think that in many cases the resentment is unfair. The poor attitudes and disregard for consumers stem from the frustration of simply trying to do their jobs. In the previous season, I was a salesman for part of the year and finished last season as an applicator. The two positions are unique in comparison to one another in all ways except that they are incredibly stressful. Working in the department of sales is mentally stressful just as the position of an applicator is physically stressful. In each department, employees are expected to exceed minimum quotas for sales and production at risk of losing their job in the inability to exceed these expectations.

Surely, enforcing a certain amount of productivity in your employees is a sensible thing to do when running a business; however, in this issue, there is a line in the sand separating reasonable from greedy, which the TruGreen corporation has catapulted over. Salesmen are forced to operate dishonestly to keep their job, and applicators are forced to perform poorly in order to meet their expectations as well. This is not as much of a problem in the employees as in the structure of employment within the company itself. These expectations are only one part of the total responsibility of the employees, however.

For example, applicators are expected to perform DOT inspections on their company vehicles to ensure everything is in working order. Even when an employee points out a problem with the vehicle or equipment, it is only actually addressed if it hinders their ability to work, or if inspectors are coming in to enforce regulations. On top of this, applicators are also expected to handle consumer complaints that come in locally, as customer service representatives are unable to perform any action other than cancelling accounts or tricking customers into maintaining the service, and applicators must also call missed appointments and newly registered consumers. This is all theoretical of course.

If you are a TruGreen customer and have had a good experience, most likely it is because you have a personal relationship with your applicator and they are familiar with your needs already, which is always a connection which must be initiated by the consumer due to the overwhelming stack of expectations placed on the applicator. As if a heavy workload wasn't enough to frustrate the employee, the employee must also endure problems of work compensation, which are often the most frustrating factors of all in the experience as a TruGreen employee. These conditions are improving due to class action lawsuits, but are still hardly up to par. This problem is best clarified by my overall experience as a TruGreen employee.

I am a college student and as such must work part time through the majority of the year. The TruGreen company offered the highest paying job position which would work around my college schedule, which consequently left me blind to the real issues behind payroll within the company for an extended period of time. As I was always part time, I was paid a decent hourly wage for my hours which were almost always under 40 hours during the period I was in school. I was, and still am grateful to the company for the opportunity to have worked there, as I would not have earned nearly as much working for another company. However, during my summer break, I was worked full-time as an applicator, and as integrity and honor are important characteristic to me personally, I performed all of the expectations given to me in the best manner I could regardless of the amount of time I spent in doing so. I soon found myself working in excess of 70 hours per week (prior to the introduction of Trudy and other customer service related expectations laid on the applicators), bringing home below minimum wage compensations at the end of it all.

The reason that I was paid exponentially less the harder I worked is because TruGreen paid their employees by a fluctuating workweek method. In essence, what this means is that the employee is paid a salary wage, and is paid half of what their equivalent hourly wage is for any hours worked overtime. This is known as half time and is joking referred to as Chinese overtime within the company.

In addition to this salary wage, I was paid a commission on the values I produced at 5%, which was nothing more than a futile attempt to bridge the gap between the wage difference, made futile by the very tactics TruGreen uses to accrue residential accounts. Each applicator at TruGreen is purposefully scheduled more work than is expected to be done in a day, with the expectations still being much higher than what can reasonably be done, mostly due to inefficiencies in pricing and scheduling/routing. In essence, job expectations are structured in a way that de-motivates hard work, which as anyone of intelligence should be able to predict, leads to a slip in job performance.

During this season at TruGreen, commission checks disappeared, which takes from the employee the motivation to simply produce as much as possible, even to the extent of ghosting lawns, a term used within the company by the applicators themselves which refers to the act of leaving a consumer with an invoice on the door explaining services which had not been done, or simply cutting as many corners as possible within the treatment. The fluctuating workweek has been replaced with an hourly wage; however, workloads on the employees have increased without substantial increase in earned compensations.

In my research of consumer complaints, I have also noticed a common theme in that the salesmen at TruGreen are perceived to be liars. It is my point to emphasize that many of these lies are perpetrated blindly. In a lot of cases, salesmen aren't even aware that they are lying, and in the majority of other cases, they are simply lying to protect their jobs. One of the biggest problems with the sales force at TruGreen is simply in their high turnover of employees, an issue which I have decided to dedicate the next section of this essay to.

Salesmen at TruGreen are expected to sell over a minimum sales goal each week they are employed with the company. Once again, such requisites are entirely sensible within reason; however, TruGreen has once again catapulted over this line in the sand, expecting performance which is extremely difficult to obtain in the current market, and impossible to obtain in an honest manner. Thus, any salesmen at TruGreen who wishes to remain as such for long must do nothing but push consumers into services they may not need or be interested in. I mean nothing in a completely literal manner, which is the exact reason that customer service is so poor when dealing with salesmen. The only way to get them to do what you want them to is to buy the service they are selling, and in many cases, even then consumer needs are ignored by the drive to move on and ensure employment into the next week.

In order to help them push services, salesmen who are unable to persuade potential consumers are given scripts to read back to the consumer, designed to instill interest and force a buy. These facts, in addition to the problems caused by the turnover of employees, are what drive the train of misinformation. Although TruGreen provides and very loosely enforces a price list, salesmen in today's market are forced to use certain tactics to compete. They rely heavily on persuasion and personality, but will resort to price gouging in order to buy the sale. The structure of pricing at TruGreen is by absolutely no means proportionate; consumers are simply priced by their ability to negotiate in combination with the employee's ability to negotiate with their sales managers. There are of course numbers that even TruGreen will now refuse to stoop to but as an applicator, I have been forced to apply chemicals to lawns (on foot) which are as much as a quarter acre all the way up to multiple acres at a price which I know the company was losing money on, not to mention the amount of extra hours I was forced to work due to the unusually low price.

Production goals set at a certain amount of money without regard to the surface area which must be applied, and as such spending 45 minutes or more to apply chemicals to a lawn a quarter acre in size or larger, only to obtain $39 toward my $1,200 daily goal is incredibly ridiculous. The worst case I experienced myself was a 3-acre lawn priced to be done at $58 per application. I cannot lie, even despite the pride I have in morality and honor, I ghosted that lawn. Salesmen are forced to result to these kinds of tactics in order to reach their own goals and ensure their own jobs. It is simply a vicious circle of frustration, and it is due to the corporations policies regarding the conduction of business.

Another of the largest issues which lead to negative consumer experience is the astronomical turnover rate of employees the company has in all departments. This problem is undoubtedly caused by the maltreatment of the employees, as I have explained above. The real question at hand is why this continues to be a problem, as its cause seems to be rather self-evident, especially over time. Upon the reflection of such a question, one can only be left to assume that the problem is ignored because the corporation stands to gain from it. The turnover rate of salesmen cause a hefty load of misinformation to be given to the customer, if not simply to keep their job, then due to a general lack of knowledge. TruGreen remains free of liability to this misinformation because it can be written off as a mistake by a new employee; however, these mistakes are compounded again and again by each new employee who simply doesn't know any better. TruGreen maintains distance from these issues because they have training videos which give basic information to the new employee, and existing employees receive a continuance of education in the field for as long as they continue to be employed with the company.

When I was hired in, these training videos were approximately two to two and a half hours in length, and were constantly interrupted by managers and completely ignored by new employees in the absence of managers. Although mildly educational, the videos do not supply a new employee with the knowledge necessary to paint an accurate picture of service detail for the consumer, and thus the salesmen in the field are forced to fill in the blanks with assumptions which in many cases are wrong. The truth is that it takes time to learn what a lawn needs and when it is needed, and over my employment with TruGreen, I learned a considerable amount regarding the biology and chemistry behind the field of work. It should suffice to say that I now know more about lawns than the average consumer will ever know, but in the case of a new employee, this knowledge has not yet been attained, and very seldom does an employee last long enough with the company to learn the things I know.

Since I first hired into the company, they have began to address some of these issues with a more in-depth training procedure. However, due to my experience with the new hires of this season, I must say that the increased training has done little to solve the problem. The rate of turnover is still astronomical, and the base knowledge is still not present. Based upon the current state of affairs, one can only logically assume that the driving force behind this lack of action is in the money made by hiring new and knowledge-less employees as opposed to finding quality workers to educate and consequently issue a series of raises to over an extended period of time. Raises are very few and extremely far between at the TruGreen company, and tenured employees seldom push the envelope simply to maintain their position. In essence, the majority of raises are received by promotion rather than increased value as an employee. It makes sense that the latter is a more costly option, although more beneficial to business in the long run, these actions boost revenues and therefore dividends in the short term.

In light of the points made in this essay, it becomes apparent that many of the issues consumers face when doing business with TruGreen stems from, in one way or another, the maltreatment of their employees, on a most basic level. Upon analyzing many of the reviews of the company, it is very self-evident that the corporation's business practices are unethical, and despite that the majority of this essay has not touched the issue, these problems are caused by an outside factor that none have yet considered thus far in the multitude of complaints against the company. Many say the service is horrible because of the employees, while others claim the service is lacking due to the policies of the corporation. I maintain that both takes of the situation are correct in their own ways. The employees, however, cannot be blamed for the structure of the corporate policies which force them to perform their jobs in the way they do. In the same breath, the corporation itself cannot be blamed for doing what it is inherently designed to do. It is the means taken to achieve the ends which cause the disorder and frustration, which fully stem from our economic system and its regulatory process.

Corporations are inherently designed to develop a margin of profit and then increase that profit consistently and as widely as possible as time progresses. Instead of pointing the finger at the corporation which is doing exactly what it was designed to do, and at the employees who are doing their jobs in the only way they can humanly do them, we should instead turn to the rules we develop to regulate corporations as well as our process of consistently enforcing these rules. Corporations will never do the right thing out of good will. They will do whatever they can to cut spending and increase dividends to keep shareholders happy. Thus, said corporations will not treat their employees well unless an outside force requires them to do so, and bears considerable and yet reasonable consequences for neglecting to do so. When reasonable regulations are enforced properly, the consumer will find that the experience in dealing with corporations in general will significantly improve.

The amount billed to my debit card was more than the quoted price that was given from the salesman. After calling the billing department at TruGreen, they wanted to just take that difference off of future billing. No way, there was no future billing. I will never use TruGreen and will discourage anyone I know who plans on it. I can treat my own lawn at half the cost and it looks a lot better. Scotts work great!

TruGreen appears to have a communication problem between the price the salesperson agrees to and the price that the billing person quotes on the phone. Following a phone call with the salesperson, where we agreed on a lower price than the supposed actual price of the service, I received the billing person calling for my credit card information. The billing person quoted me the supposed actual price and I had to correct them. She then said I could get a 10% discount if I paid in full, but that was still higher than the agreed price I had with the salesperson. When I refused to pay, she had the salesperson call me again. He profusely apologized, said it was his fault, and offered me an additional discount. So on round two with the billing person, she again quoted me the supposed actual price of the service again. Unbelievable. I truly believe that TruGreen has a policy to try and bill at the higher price even if you have agreed to a lower one, hoping you won't catch it. It is the slide of hand act all over. Very dishonest in my opinion.

We've been using their service for a little over a year and while it started out as reasonable, they were constantly pushing new and different services to the point where they are out of hand and a complete annoyance. The service is just marginally effective and the applications don't seem to be all that substantial, so it's hard to say if it's even doing anything. However that said, while they offer pest control, the biggest pests of them all are their sales people who constantly call to sell us something. I'd try and find someone local who is not out pushing services you don't need. They are like drug pushers. Stay away!

I had their lawn service for a year and was annoyed at the continued weeds and crabgrass in my lawn, not to mention the spotty application. They always claimed it was due to lack of water or something that was my fault. Further annoying was how often they would call on an invoice that was a day or two overdue. At the end of the season, I sent them a note in writing to terminate the contract. They totally disregarded my request and continued the service. I refused to pay their bill and they sent it to collections claiming that they don't honor correspondence by mail and that it is specified in their small print somewhere. They say no one touched the mail. It’s a lock box? Funny someone opens the envelopes and takes out the checks to cash! These people in Londonderry, NH are totally unethical!

Well first of all, TruGreen is a scam. They send specialists over to people’s homes even if those people cancelled, rescheduled, or didn't even order the service. If I knocked on the door in the morning and nobody was there, we the "specialists" are supposed to "maintenance" their lawn anyway and then leave a big hairy bill on the door step. Of course, the people at the office don't take any heat; we are the ones out there talking to people every day! I try to explain to customers that I am just a messenger and I go where they tell me to go.

Second of all, their equipment is old, in really bad shape, and really dangerous. They are the kind of company that wants to spend less money making sure their workers are safe just to make a quick buck. Yesterday, their truck broke down on me on the interstate on my way back to the office and the entire tailgate fell off. Their loading system is completely hazardous as well. Half of a 4 wheeler ramp with cheap particle board screwed on. A number of times I was pushing the aerator up the ramp and it would fall when I was still on it. Those aerators are not light; they can crush you. I understand with some jobs there is danger you can avoid, but when there is something wrong that you can fix easily and it won't cost you a ton of money, do it!

So, it’s just a combination of cheap and unsafe equipment, and screwing people out of their money. I went to the office and told them I didn't want to work there anymore after a month of work. So my advice, don't get services done by TruGreen. They overcharge you and don't have very good customer service.

I was a TruGreen employee and customer. There are some great employees that work at TruGreen but the corporate office sets the policies and tries to find new marketing ploys to pay their workers less money while giving their customers less services for more money. Not everyone gets grub control like they are promised with this service even if your sales person says you need it. I told the manager that a few lawns needed grub and my customer paid for it without getting the control. Only 40% of the customers that pay for grub control will get it.

If you want good service with TruGreen, you have to be familiar to your yard’s problems and stay on top of TruGreen to make sure they fulfill their promises; they will not do it on their own. I did not get fired from TruGreen; I left for another job on my own because my integrity is important to me. If I give a customer my word, I expect it to be delivered. But with TruGreen, all the corporate office cares about is how much money they can get from the customer with doing only the bare minimum.

Stay away from all ServiceMaster Companies. I hired Terminix to do a pest control on my house so I could refinance and they tried to tell my husband we needed a thousand dollar termite control on my all brick house right after he approved my termite inspection. Once my husband mentioned his wife worked at TruGreen in the marketing department and Terminix would need to get a hold of me, we never heard another thing about needing a termite control. All ServiceMaster Companies make their employees sell services that some customers don't need to meet a quota. If the quota is not met, then employees are laid off or fired. Take it from me; find a local company you can trust. A big company like ServiceMaster doesn't care about your yard, only your money.

I was amazed at how many complaints about TruGreen were so similar to my experience. Let me say that I have not been a customer of TruGreen for 2 years now. However, the experience with this company was so grievously bad, that I now still find myself motivated to sound off.

I got praise and compliments about my lawn prior to hiring TruGreen. I had one weak spot and hired them because they promised to get the lawn healthier than it already was. At first, they seemed to be doing a good job and they talked me into buying extras, like aeration, and winterizing. What a waste! After 3 years, I had a yard of weeds and dying grass, and Bermuda grass was taking over. I thought it was a weed and was calling to complain about weeds. They sent techs that just sprayed a little something on it. It got worse (I now know Bermuda is so invasive it cannot be killed). Now I was screwed.

I complained enough that finally a "company supervisor" came out with the local manager and told them to "make it right." That led to them replacing some of the sod, damaging the sprinkler system in the process. The sod they put down was such a poor grade that I had 3 other sod companies look at it. Two of the three said if it was their lawn, they would demand it be taken back up and replaced. The 3rd said the Bermuda grass will take over everything, just let it grow. They refused to replace the poor sod, and told me that it was because I didn't water it enough.

I had blocks of sod that were brown and dead next to green sod. How could I water just some blocks and not others like in a checkered pattern? My water bills for 2 months were $280 and $310 yet they insisted I didn't water! They said they fertilized and would come and spray something (directed to do so for free for a few applications), but the sod just got worse. I finally gave up, fired them and hired a new small local company. After 2 years, my lawn is primarily Bermuda grass, but it is green and thick and looking better than it ever did.

The bottom line is, never use TruGreen. Tell others not to use them. They are like acid on your car's paint, or cigarettes to your lungs. Nothing good will come of having a relationship with them. Run as fast as you can away from TruGreen.

Finally after a month, the yard started to look better. Then, I came home to find a TruGreen treatment invoice on my door stating they had fertilized. The very next day, it looked like our yard was dying! Within days, our yard did die in several areas and other areas look splotchy brown. We called TruGreen; they sent a man out. Each zone is scheduled to run 15 minutes. The zones were engineered to overlap. Consequently, each area receives at least 30 minutes of water twice a week. However, I still find it hard to understand why there were so many weeds in my lawn. In talking with the technician, he said that no one in my neighborhood waters their lawn. I have been using TruGreen for more than 15 years, on and off with success. Last year, I was very dissatisfied. I told the salesman who called me that I would not be renewing my contract for this year. Immediately, a manager was sent to my house and he promised me that things were getting better. Give us another chance? I wanted to believe them so I agreed to one more year. This year, things have been even worse. My lawn is now almost completely brown and dead. What is not brown are weeds, many different kinds of weeds. A technician was in the neighborhood. I stopped him and asked him what was wrong with my lawn. He said drought. We have an automatic sprinkler system. He asked me what time of day we water, I said early morning before sunrise. He scratched his head and said he would get back to me.

I called and told TruGreen to stop all treatments until a manager came out to see me. They promised a call within the hour, no one called. I called again the next day and the woman on the phone told me that someone should have called me. Hmm, that's what I thought! He would call me back right away. You guess it, no one called! The next day, there was a receipt for 2 different $100 plus services that were done. Obviously, no one noticed the stop on my account. Day three, I called and asked for a supervisor and none were available. I explained that I stopped my service and yet two different services were performed. I have no intention of paying for either service. "Someone will call you back right away."

Three hours later, I called and was told that a service order would be put on my account and they would get back to me. Well, someone called and didn't leave his/her name. TruGreen used to be a great service, but has been going down for years (in my area anyway). There are beautiful lawns in my neighborhood and none are treated by TruGreen.

I hired TruGreen for lawn care. My lawn is overran with weeds and brown spots. It looks worse now by far than when we started with this company. We're told we were on a code red program, that a manager would observe the property on a weekly basis. Nobody ever followed up with it. We would be told they are coming on a certain day and not show up (numerous times). We would call the main service area office and they would say they will contact the local office. Then, no one would contact us or show up if they were supposed to. We would call back the service area office to follow up and they would say that the appointment was cancelled by someone, but no one would know or tell from whom.

We have a paper saying that an application of grub control was supposed to be applied at the end of a certain week on a Saturday and no one showed. We filled out the survey online from the address on the back of the form left and stated this among other problems that we were having. They stated that they will contact us shortly. That was 3 weeks ago. We have paid them for this service, which wasn't cheap, and they are not providing any service but we still are under contract. What is the recourse? On a personal note, I would never hire this company again nor would I recommend this company. I believe them to be purposely misleading and they should be looked at by any and all consumer protection agencies on their practices and promises that never materialize.

Even after I cancelled my service, I still received calls trying to schedule services. I've now tried to work through the Houston office for over 3 years to get rid of nut grass, dove weeds, etc. and yet no luck. I live on a golf course with Bermuda grass and I can tell you my lawn looks worse than most lawns and yet I pay more for a service monthly that I'm not getting today. They continue to treat the lawn - I'm not sure with what but the weeds get bigger and bigger. One thing for certain, they are always on time to collect money and even if you are one day late, they start to call. I guess I have been the fool but no longer. Apparently, they don't know what customer service is all about and without a doubt, this is a true rip off.

First of all, let me state that I have been a customer of TruGreen/ChemLawn for the most part since 2001 (I cancelled when they killed my first shrub in 2006, but came back in 2008 when I purchased a new home and needed green lawn). On May 31, 2012 (Thursday), TruGreen treated my trees and shrubs. The following Sunday, I noticed that one of my shrubs had strips of yellowing (like someone had sprayed). This same thing happened to me back in 2005-2006 (with the same company). I knew that they were going to deny any responsibility, so at first, I was going to simply replace the bush.

After further consideration, I decided to hold them responsible for the mistake they made (since they have a product guarantee). My initial contact with the office went just as I expected (denial). I insisted on speaking with the General Manager, Ray **. He told me that he did not see how they could be at fault since they only sprayed a pesticide. I insisted that he take ownership of this incident and his response was to offer me a different shrub that he had "laying around the office" as a replacement.

Of course, this was unacceptable to me, so I wrote two letters to the corporate office and also filed a complaint with the BBB. While corporate was of no help to me, the BBB complaint got me a response within 24 hours. Even after all of this drama, I had to continually pester Mr. ** until he replaced my shrub almost two months later. And his response to my complaint was to cancel my service (which I was going to do anyway once the matter was resolved). After all of this drama, last weekend, I had a visit from my neighbor who informed me that TruGreen charges him $25.00 less per service than I was being charged. That means I was paying $50.00 more per month for the same service! TruGreen really knows how to keep long-term, loyal customers!

About a week ago I called my local service office and requested an unscheduled weed control application, and I'm still waiting for someone to call with a service date. When I got home, I had numerous calls on the answering machine related to my overdue bill and also paper statements. I immediately sent the statement back with my credit card number on it. Last week, I got a call that they wanted payment and I said that I had mailed the CC number to them and it should have arrived days before. They had no record of it. Two days ago, I got a letter saying they had received my remittance and something was wrong with my CC number.

Yesterday, I called the number listed and gave another woman my CC number. Today, I got a call and was told that if I did not give payment today for my one application, my bill would be turned over to collections and that there was no record that I had ever called yesterday or given my CC number. Today, for the third time in two weeks, I submitted my CC number to TG and canceled the rest of my lawn applications. What a fly by night outfit. I've never had so much trouble paying a bill.

They just pulled up with the same truck they were spraying every other lawn with (not even taking into account the different grass types we have in this area). These yahoos once sprayed an entire treatment on my lawn during the fall when it was covered in 3 inches of leaves! After two return service calls in spring of 2012, which I might add I had to nag for despite being clearly promised by their company, it was clear they had no idea how to kill weeds or nourish my grass. My lawn looked the worst of any on the block. The grass would not grow and the weeds were taking over. I was the only one with their service. I fired them and called a local specialist who came out and immediately analyzed our problem. In only two of his treatments, our lawn was 100% better. Don't even think about hiring TruGreen.

I also asked if the seed would grow after a weed treatment. I was told yes and that the lawn should be in great shape by August. I told the salesperson that I did not want to sign up for the program, if the grass would not be in good condition in by August when I needed to put the house on the market. I was also told by the technician who did the first weed control treatment that TruGreen does not seed, as promised, and that I, myself, could seed a few days after the weed treatment. I was informed after I paid that TruGreen does not seed the lawn which was different from what the salesperson told me.

I have seeded myself several times and at a cost of a few hundred dollars and there is no grass growth despite watering every day. I called to ask for my money back since I now have to pay someone several hundred dollars to get the grass in shape so the house can be put on the market for sale. TruGreen refunded some of the money but I told them I want all of it refunded since they killed the grass, gave me misinformation about them seeding and how fast the grass would grow. I now have to spend a lot of money to fix the lawn that they ruined. I have asked three times via phone for the supervisor to call me and I am told they will call within twenty four hours. No return phone call has been received. I am stuck with a lawn that is ruined, unnecessary out of pocket expenses to repair damage inflicted by TruGreen and a delay in placing my house on the market.

I signed up for TruGreen service approximately three years ago. I have dogs in the backyard and asked when I signed up for the contract that I be serviced prior to 8AM, so I can have the dogs in and still get to work. I was told that would not be a problem. The first year was about 70% followed as agreed. The second year, all calls were routed to another state (which is FL, I live in GA); and there was no one local to talk to when service was not being done by 8AM. The second year was more like 90% of the time. I had no one local to talk to. Also, I have bermuda grass, and the service people kept changing, so consistent care for my lawn was not being done. I was told the reason for not being on time was other calls and trucks breaking down three times(?). One time, they showed up at 4PM, just as I happened to be home. And the person said he had just looked at the service sheet and realized he was supposed to be there by 8AM (so I know it is in the order sheet) and asked if it would be ok to service.

I decided to try one more year. This year (2012), they were not here one time prior to 8AM. In June, they came. Since I was not home, they only did the front yard; but I was billed for the full service. I called and asked to talk to a local rep and was told "We all work for TruGreen." I asked when I could get the backyard done. A date was set, and they were a no show again by 9AM. I had to go to work. I called and cancelled the service. I was told I would receive a corrected bill in five days. 15 days later, I had to call again for a corrected bill. I was told there was a note in my file to call me, but it never happened and the bill would be out during the week. I never received it. I would not recommend. Then it happened again, another missed appointment. This time, I did not bother contacting them about rescheduling. About 3 days after the missed appointment, I did receive a message that they set up another appointment. I called them to cancel because I had just had a pest control treatment done on my lawn and did not want Trugreen treating it at that point.

For the first several applications this year, this was done. However, the last time, no one did and had they done so, I would have told them not to apply. The reason being is that we are in a drought here in Northeast Ohio. The lawn has been burnt for weeks now and I live in a rural area where we have well water. Consequently, watering is not an option during this dry period without running the risk of depleting your well. So on 6/29/2012, they came out and spread chemicals on a burnt rock hard lawn which burnt it even more. Would someone from the Dallas office please contact me regarding this issue? We decided to open an account with TruGreen this year. Before their service we had a beautiful stand of tall fescue in our front yard. We began to notice the lawn was beginning to die off in late April after one of their services. By mid May 2012, 75% of our lawn was dead and unrecoverable. We tried several times to contact someone at TruGreen to find out why. After several calls to their offices in Henry County, GA and being told there would be someone in contact within 48 hours, no one ever called. I again called their office and asked for a supervisor to look at my lawn and call me when they were at my house so that we could discuss the problem. My neighbors saw someone at my house two days later, but again no one called. During this time TruGreen continued to try and service the lawn - or should I call it a dust bowl now? We refused their service until we could talk to someone about this situation. Again, no one called and again a week or two later, they are coming to do a normal service as if nothing was wrong. This time I contacted their corporate national number and again my call was returned to the local office.

Again, I was told someone would be in contact with me about my dust bowl within 48 hours. Finally, after 72 hours the TruGreen rep decided to contact me. He informed me that we may have a fungus that is killing the grass, that they would treat the dust bowl with a fungicide the following Monday and to stop watering the lawn. He also stated we would get together to discuss a strategy for the lawn when I returned from vacation. After returning from vacation, my lawn had not been marked as serviced with fungicide.

I called the office again and was told that they showed no records of our lawn being serviced with fungicide. Again, they showed up for what I presume was a regular service while we were at work. The service representative left a note saying to water the lawn twice a week and that they had serviced with a granular fertilizer. Again, I called their offices in Henry County. Again, I was told someone would be in contact within 48 hours. Again, there’s no call. This was over a week and a half ago. This is very sad customer no service from a nationally known company! I am now looking at having to do my 7500 square feet lawn all over again. This is not a cheap prospect as I am sure you can understand. What a rip off!

My wife and I (both 29) bought our first home last year in August. After the MN winter passed, we needed to take care of our lawn. Lost and having never done more than mowing, I called TruGreen with a list of my concerns. The rep assured me the lawn would look much better by the end of the season. Two weeks later, I came home to a note on the door in absolutely terrible handwriting that was barely legible explaining why none of the work requested had been done. It appeared that someone had used a spreader to sprinkle some kind of fertilizer on the lawn, which I could've done myself in about 10 minutes. There's no new grass seed. Nothing was noted for any of the 3-5 other issues I had very clearly explained.

A couple weeks later, a bill showed up for $110. I waited weeks before deciding that TruGreen wasn't right for me, making sure I was thinking clearly and making a good decision. Tonight, I called to cancel my service and have the charges removed as services requested were not delivered. The woman on the phone, by the name of Chanya (or Chanta), immediately tried to sell me more discounted services rather than doing what I asked. She tried to tell me that I was wrong and needed to wait, and she mentioned that the call was being recorded so she could prove that I was contradicting my self. She actually laughed at me at the end of the call.

I've spent years in sales and customer service and have learned quickly to not make these things personal issues, as the customer's gripe is with the company, not with you as an individual. I told her that she had me in the palm of her hand, as I was planning to use their services in the future, after I did the work on my own lawn to get it structurally where it needed to be and TruGreen could do the rest. I also explained that this 100 dollars is very important to me, and certainly not to them, and that this issue is about doing what's right by someone who didn't get what was sold to them.

I'm sure I will end up losing this battle with TruGreen over the money that I could be better using to do so many different things with. But this post is here, as I'm keeping my promise to them that I will be doing the only thing I can as a consumer who has been burned: tell everyone I come across about how awful my experience was with them. I absolutely recommend never using this company for any services, and I'll mentioning the same any time it comes up in conversation. Thanks for reading.

I talked to the operators and they left a message for a manager to get back to me. Well, finally after a month I got a hold of one. Well, the conversation went south after I told him about Trugreen not doing any of the services they said they would to my lawn. Again, I paid in advance for my lawn to be taken care of. My advice is to do it yourself. Trugreen is awful in their all-around service. And good luck if you want a manager. Do not pay them in advance; or even better, do not at all. If I had enough money, I would sue them. So my advice to the world: Stay away from Trugreen.

When I signed up for lawn treatment, they said if I am not satisfied with the service, they will redo the application. The first application was done very poorly. As I noticed, the person who did the application did not cover many areas. When I questioned, he was not receptive and lied that he covered everything. After 4 weeks, my lawn is full of weeds and I asked them to redo the application. They said someone will call me. After calling 4 times, nobody called me and I had to cancel the service. They promised a lot before the service, but didn't keep their word. I will not recommend this company to anyone. I lost my valuable time and peace of mind calling and dealing with these people.

TruGreen said they would take care of the weeds in my lawn and put holes in the lawn for it to breathe for better growth and better lawn. I paid in advance for the year and TruGreen has not done anything the salesperson said would be done to my lawn.

I signed up for TruGreen in early/mid-March 2012. I explained to them that my house was on the bay and that New Jersey had passed new laws regarding using fertilizers near the open water. The woman on the phone assured me that this wouldn't be a problem. I paid them in full by credit card at that time. When I continued to receive bills in the mail, I repeatedly called them over a two week period. After numerous phone calls (approximately 7), being put on hold for extended period of time, being told that there were no supervisors in the building and that they would get back to me. I finally spoke with a supervisor who advised me that my credit card payment had not yet been processed.

The technician finally came to my house to perform a treatment. Upon another technician returning to my house a couple of weeks later, I was advised that he could not put down the application as my house was too close to the open water (i.e. the bay). I tried to explain that I had told the original salesman all this and that she had viewed my house using Google Earth; and, that an application was already put down. He continued to insist that he still couldn't do anything for me.

I am now left to try to get my money back as the technician couldn't help me. I have been on hold with the corporate office (901-597-6994) for approximately a half hour (1/2) as I write this review. In a word, what a pain in the butt this company is to do business with.

I have used TruGreen Lawn Care for several years but monies were beginning to get tight so I decided to do away with that service. They continually sent me forms to sign allowing them to apply pesticides to the lawn. I disregarded them thinking by signing them that it would signal them that I was ready for another season.

I was in Michigan for a couple of weeks and upon returning to Saratoga Springs, I noticed that they had been to my home and made some type of application (their unique yellow flags) on the front lawn. I called them the following Monday and mentioned that they had applied something and I didn't authorize it. She told me that it was fertilizer and the company assumes from year to year that I will continue the service. I have to opt out either verbally or by written notification. I wasn't fully on board with this explanation so I sort of disregarded it. Today, I received a bill for the application, not a large bill but still something I really didn't need.

I called the company and spoke to an Ashley and she explained to me that all the papers they send to me specifies this year to year assumption that I want their services to continue. I dug out one of their communications to me and it sort of vaguely states this. I will probably pay the bill but I'm very dissatisfied with TruGreen. I should have read the communications more thoroughly, but it doesn't really pop off the page unless you're looking for just such a clause. None of the paperwork that I know of that was signed by me had that clause on it. They only had me sign off for the pesticides. Maybe that's where they got me. I think it's a ripoff myself. Let the buyer beware comes to mind in this instance.

I am currently a TruGreen employee. What you have read and heard is all 100% true. Be careful of the "largest, most trusted name in the business." The staff is so overworked by corporate, and they don't have systems to stop calling people, even after stopping service 15 years ago. If you need lawn care, run and call someone else. You won't get any good service. Trust me!

After my dog was diagnosed with cancer about a month ago, I started doing a lot of research. One of the main causes listed was lawn chemicals. TruGreen and Chemlawn have been doing our yard for years, with the assurance that it's safe for pets after the spray has dried. During my research, I found numerous reports of TruGreen users with dogs affected by cancer. This morning, my second dog, a four-year-old youngster, was diagnosed with advanced cancer and had to be put down. Two dogs diagnosed with cancer in one month? I'm going along with the TruGreen theory!

I have been a Trugreen customer for more than 6 years. I have been doing all that they had recommended for the lawn care and treatments. After all these years, I have realized that my lawn is getting worse. I contacted Trugreen on several occasions and they have not been able to resolve the issue. They do not call back nor do they show up when they are supposed to come in and in fact lied that they were there when I was at home waiting to meet them. Every time I have called them at their local or central office, they would say, "Oh, we are documenting everything that you are saying and I am sorry this happened.”

I am tired of their arrogant employees who think and treat you just like numbers. They do not deserve to be in business and their customer service needs a whole lot of improvement and major restructuring. If you as a company can not keep your longterm customers happy, you are not going to last long. I have always been told that a local company does a better job and hence I ended up doing so. I am very frustrated with their no-care attitude. I am never going back to Trugreen again and I have major reservations for referring any one to them. Overall, it’s a very poorly functioning company with poor quality employees. Sad!

I paid up front for the service in April. They came twice. I was told that if I see any problems, "Please call." But I can't get through and received robo calls that they will be here in two days. They weren't. I want my lawn aerated. I was told that they agreed. They said they would do it last week, still not done. Nobody came by as scheduled to spray and fertilize. I have been doing what they suggested but they aren't keeping our agreement or honoring their contract.

We are offended and believe the current TruGreen TV ad is inappropriate, when the actor comes out of the front door and says, "What the f... front yard!" This is perfectly clear what word the actor is conveying. Perhaps this four-letter word is used commonly amongst the younger generation. But still, it is not appropriate to use in advertising to the general public. We respectfully request the ad be removed.
