I purchased Whiskey Maple hardwood flooring from Mohawk through Home Depot and we are in the process of installing it ourselves. We finished one room and we're gonna do the entire house except for the bathroom. It’s fairly easy. I would piece together three rows so that the seams didn’t line up since I want them kind of alternate, and then long and short. Once I set up the three rows, I pull them away and then my boyfriend would nail them in with a nail gun. And for the most part, they were okay. There were a couple of pieces that were bent on the lateral side. He’s done professional flooring before so he would take a screwdriver and force it into the subfloor and then, press the back on the bend and then nail it in that way.
And that’s a trick but it saves the piece and once it’s nailed in, it’s okay because then, you put another flooring against it and it’ll hold that bend in place and it should relax over time. We haven’t had a problem with it, so we ended up using those few pieces that had those bends in them. A lot of people would discard them but it was a minimal amount. If we weren’t able to use them, I’d be more annoyed, but he knew the trick and we were able to save those pieces.
I looked at some other ones but the price point was way out of line with our budget. The Mohawk flooring has a lot of short pieces and I prefer having more longer pieces. If you get a large amount, you need probably two rooms’ worth before you get a good mix, because some of those boxes have a lot of short pieces and some of them have longer pieces. And if you just arbitrarily pick one or two boxes, you may end up with a lot of shorts because they’re not homogeneously mixed throughout the lot. With the higher end flooring, you get more of a consistent mix of length in each box but it is way too expensive. We paid $8 a square foot and the high-end flooring was running between $12 and $20, and we couldn’t afford to do that.
So far, I’m worried about the durability because we have a German Shepherd. And the laminates are better but we’re taking a chance on it. We’ve only had it in there since November and so far so good. But I don’t know how it’ll manage over time, as far as scratch resistance. We bought one lot for our room and it has the 3m water resistance on it. We liked it so much for that one room, and we decided to buy it for the whole house but it no longer had that 3m rating. And we had a hard time matching it up because Home Depot got a new lot of it under a new name. And it looked like a completely different product but when you look at the picture, it looks the same. So I was taking a chance on ordering it, and when it came in, it was an identical match but it did not have the 3m rating on the box like the original batch did.
One of the things I really like the most about it is, you could spill something on it and it would just bead up like wax on a car. The rest of the batch looks visually and structurally the same but I don't know if it's gonna perform that way. Also, I like that it’s hardwood. The nice thing about wood flooring is, in the future, you can sand it and get more use out of it. But it'll lose that wood hewn look when you sand it the first time, and I really like that wood hewn feel. It feels good on the feet and it looks really good in the room. Overall, it’s an excellent product and we’re very satisfied with it so far.

We purchased a 36-inch long grayish tile from Mohawk Flooring. I really liked the way that it looked and it matched with our cabinets. It seems to be relatively fragile though. When you put the grout down on it, the edges chip. But it’s a beautiful tile and it’s a great color.

Purchased laminate at Depot. Installed by depot. Five years old with numerous buckling at seams at indiscriminate locations. Installer inspected. Suggested manufacturer defect. Independent inspector from Mohawk inspected. Consumer defect - "moisture from cleaning". Cleaned by us following guidelines from depot as well as manufacturer warranty information. Mohawk passed the buck and will now not honor warranty. No one from depot OR mohawk has contacted us with inspection results. Had to get report from store. Contacted consumer affairs mohawk. Awaiting reply. Will update when new info is given. Shame on you mohawk.
Dear Ron, I apologize for my delay in responding to you here - I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring, and I'm extremely sorry to hear about your experience with your floors. If your claim was declined based on an inspection, you do have the opportunity to hire an inspector and have them submit a report of their findings - this will reopen the claim.
The inspector needs to be certified, either by the NICFI -http://www.nicfi.org/Search.aspx - or the IICRC -
http://www.iicrc.info/locateapro/homepage.aspx
On both those sites, you can type in your zip code and find the nearest certified inspectors - many have a wide radius they service. You can give the inspector's report to your retailer and ask them to send it to Mohawk, or they can email the report to consumer@mohawkind.com - and Mohawk will reopen the claim.
I'm very sorry again, and I apologize for your experience, Ron.Take care,

Mohawk had the flooring that we liked and I've heard pretty good things about them in terms of quality. We got a nice dark hardwood flooring and it was installed in the entire house except for the backyards. For the cost and the quality, it was nice. We had it for about six months until we sold the house and we liked it. It was a darker wood, so it did scratch easier which you're going to get with any dark wood. Otherwise, it came out good and I loved the look.

It was raining and a tree fell on the house and it ruined the linoleum so I had to have the linoleum all the way going down the stairs replaced. The company that was doing the restore of the house wanted me to go through Mohawk Flooring so we went through them. They showed me the linoleum they had available and the only thing my wife considered was the color to match what had been there at the house. We were trying to get the house redone as soon as we could but it took over a month and a half to get the flooring to come in, which was way too long and so it held everything up. I would have gone somewhere like Home Depot or Lowe’s and I could have got the flooring the same day. Nonetheless, the linoleum was fine and it was installed in the stair area by our back door. It's in place and everything seems to be fine since the installation. However, I wouldn’t go to Mohawk Flooring again.

I went to a store and looked around and bought Mohawk wood flooring. We wanted the engineered wood because it butts up against several vinyl and other surfaces. Also, we liked the color of the flooring. It was installed in August on a long hall in our home. Mohawk is fine and we like the floor but there were humps and little hills due to faulty installation. And to get it to conform to the requirements for wood would have been very expensive. So, the floor store already took it out a couple of weeks ago and we're putting in carpet.

I've got 20-year-old custom oak floors in the house and I was looking for a product that matched them. We went into The Floor Store showroom and there was a big Mohawk display in there with a wide variety of colors and samples that I could touch. I also brought in a piece of scrap from my existing floor to figure out what I needed. So, I ended up purchasing a tongue and groove oak pre-finished floor. It wasn't exact, but it's a nice product and it came out well. I had it installed in the hallway of my house and a set of stairs that was carpeted.
I didn't get enough quantity on my first purchase, so I bought a second order of Mohawk boards that I found at Home Depot for almost half the price from the other store. It was disappointing to see the same product priced differently, but I went to the other more expensive store because I knew they have a display and someone there to help me. We've only had it in for a couple of months and although I've never used pre-finished flooring before, I would always use pre-finished flooring from now on. The price I paid upfront is still so much cheaper and less disruptive than having a custom company come in and do all the finishing in place.

Unbelievable! First time I don't feel I was ripped off on stain protection. The very first day our new carpet was installed we were carrying in groceries and I dropped a bottle of bleach that literally exploded all over the room. Well... we now have a spotted sofa which matches the spotted drapes and spotted side chairs but unbelievably, the Smartstrand silk carpet that took the biggest hit, which had almost a quart of bleach pooling all over the surface did not show any change. Made a believer out of me.
Hi Mark, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring - and wow, I'm so glad to hear how pleased you are with your SmartStrand Silk carpet! We remodeled quite a few things lately in our kitchen flooring. My husband wanted the stone so if we broke one it was easier to replace. That was one factor why he really wanted the stone. The cost of the product from Mohawk Flooring was in the middle of the road. There were some that were cheaper but the quality was poor. Some have higher cost that we liked better but the flooring from Mohawk was on sale. So, we chose it finally. As far as quality was concerned, it was definitely better than the lower priced ones. Also, we like the design and the durability. It's durability has been top-notch. You can't dent it, you can't hurt it and it cleans well. Those were good things for me. Though if anything hits it, it breaks like the dishes that I've had for about 20 years, our wedding dishes that I've hardly broken. We've broken quite a few since we have kids and the dishes slip through and it hits the floor.
The only thing that we haven't liked is it's several shades different than what the display was. We knew it would be a little bit different. We were disappointed in the final result but I don't dislike it. It's just not exactly what I wanted. One thing we liked about it though was that if it did chip, it wouldn't be a different color below. Some of them were a red clay below and we were glad that this one was not. So, I would definitely recommend it.

I purchased the eco-friendly weave carpet, and I like the softness, flushness and the sheet. It's in a low traffic area, so it's hard to know how it's holding up, but it's a beautiful carpet and we're very happy with it.
However, my biggest complaint about the carpet experience was how overly complex it was to align the cost of the carpet with the samples that were in Cap Carpet. I went back twice and couldn't find the things that the salesman said were on sale or in stock. We were told the person responsible for installing the displays is a Mohawk person and we didn’t have any way of getting a hold of this person. Mohawk should organize the carpet based on budget and they need to have a better way of organizing their stock. The display kind of felt convoluted and manipulative. So I don’t know if I'll buy from Mohawk again.

Called Home Depot in November of 2016 because I finally got tired of looking at the stains in the softly 2 carpets I bought 2 years ago. I was told to send pictures and my receipts for professional carpet cleaning which I had done quarterly even though once a year is the mandate for the warranty. I did this and waited a few weeks or so and was told that I had to pay the $200 to have the carpet cleaned again because it had been 4 months since my last cleaning. I argued and was very unhappy about this because the warranty only requires 1x a year cleaning. I finally complied when I was assured that when I get it cleaned and the stains were still there they would honor the warranty. It was Christmas time and we were leaving shortly for a vacation so I was told to do it whenever I had the time... No rush.
I had the carpet cleaned on February 14, 2017 and immediately sent the pictures and the receipt. I then had to call 2 weeks later and ask about the progress on my claim. The home depot rep I was working with attempted to contact the Mohawk rep daily with no response for another week. Then they informed me on March 6, 2017 that they would come inspect on March 10, 2017. The man came and only took a picture of his "wipe test" on the stains surrounding the front door where we take our shoes off. He did no other wiping to see if the carpets were dirty on any of the 4 other stained areas in the house where no one wears their shoes. And of course I was just informed today that my claim was denied because of maintenance issues saying the carpets were just dirty.
It's all a scam. They sat on the pictures and didn't come out for almost a month so they could wipe the carpet by the shoe rack and claim it was dirty. The cleaning receipt even states that there are stains and wear without but that was insufficient as well. Please don't tell me to get a second opinion because if I have to waste more of my time and money on dealing with Mohawk it will be in a lawsuit. I don't feel like any "other opinion" in the world will make them honor this warranty and they'll just keep coming up with different reasons to deny it. Should have read the 50+ similar bad reviews about this company before spending so much money.
I had my previous carpet for 10 years and never had an issue. We don't wear shoes in the house or eat in the living rooms but honestly, we should be able to with no issues. Mohawk says that no stains or wear will remain on the carpet. Well they're wrong and they should be accountable to the claims they make and their warranty!
Dear Giavanna, I'm Laura from Mohawk Flooring, and I wanted to apologize for your experience with your carpet. Everybody was really impressed with the floor. It was wonderful and I was surprised at how much better it looked when it was finished. I did the living room and it goes by the stairwell. I had hardwood floors in the kitchen and we replaced that, too. The flooring just flowed through and it looked really fabulous. I was really pleased with it and it helped me sell my condo. I’d recommend Mohawk Flooring.

I purchased laminate flooring from Mohawk Flooring and installed it in the whole house. I considered about a trillion other brands but Mohawk flooring was well priced for the quality. I was looking for 12mm flooring because it would sound and look real. I was also looking for the durability as indicated by a couple of quality indicators that it had, and then the color. I was looking for a midrange color and that was not easy to find. The other reason I chose it was because my installer gave me very specific criteria. For the flooring, it had to have Unilock system or else he would charge me more to install it. He said it was very easy to put on and looked down and he was very happy. The flooring has only been there since last fall but it has met my expectations.
I would recommend the particular product I bought. There were some lower end products but I didn't want them. I didn't want it to look and feel like laminate. It was my parents' house and my father has some balance issues and we didn't want stone or tile on the floor. This is Florida so it is probably the most common thing. We came from the Midwest where they have real wood but that doesn't go over cement foundations very well so we tried to find something that looked real, sounded real, wasn't real. And it has worked. It was cleaning up fine and everything else.

Use Murphy's oil soap to clean hardwoods never a problem at other homes and carpets using Murphy's. Claim denied. So what is the solution Mohawk. Also like Lucia the other staircase shows extreme wear. We are 2 plus 50 adults, no kids or pets and we work everyday. Will never ever buy or recommend this product. Have requested cleaning specs and warranty information. Maybe chemdry can get up stains since so called third party inspector used some type of chemical. Will tell everyone I know not to buy this carpet. It is not stain resistant.
Hi Melanie, I'm Laura from Mohawk Flooring. First of all I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. The warranty and cleaning info that you requested are available on our website here (most of the cleaning info is toward the end): https://www.mohawkflooring.com/assets/files/Mohawk_Carpet_Warranty_Brochure.pdf
I couldn't tell from your review whether you were drawing a distinction between Hot Water Extraction and cleaning methods that use chemicals, but there is no distinction. The Hot Water Extraction method involves using a variety of chemicals to clean the carpet. The proper selection and use of chemicals is an essential part of Hot Water Extraction, and the warranty specifies a Hot Water Extraction cleaning every 18 months.
If your claim was declined based on an inspection and you disagree with the findings, you can hire an inspector to come out and give a second opinion - the person just needs to be certified by the NICFI (http://www.nicfi.org/Search.aspx) or the IICRC (http://www.iicrc.info/locateapro/homepage.aspx). I bought a new Lennar home with what appeared to be a beautiful Mohawk Shadow hardwood floor. Fortunately I passed on upgrading to hardwood in other areas of the house. I was told by the Lennar rep at our orientation that there are two kinds of engineered hardwood floors. The first you can take a nail to and it won't scratch. The second you can push a penny across and it will scratch. He said... "you have the second." He was so right. In the early months several pieces were replaced as they were peeling for no reason. It has the thinnest veneer imaginable and I feel it's a very cheap product.
Lennar has "non disclosed" homeowners in other neighborhoods and replaced the same flooring. Lennar sent out Macadam Flooring to inspect it. Surprise... they said it's normal wear and tear! Well, actually I agree with them. It is normal for cheap, known bad flooring. The bottom line is this... There are a lot of bad reviews of Mohawk Flooring. I would say pay attention to them and test your flooring before installing it. I love my Lennar home and overall the process was pretty good. However are not taking responsibility for installing flooring they knew was substandard at the time of installation. I don't have a receipt for the flooring as I bought the whole house new.

This is the first experience I've had with Mohawk and it's not working out too well. It's been six months since the carpet's been in and it's been a nightmare. The first issue I had was mainly an install issue. There were nodules where in the seams, it felt like glue or something melted. I dealt with our rep, Damian, on that and it was supposed to be taken care of but it's been a while. And since time has gone by in the main traffic areas, there's been an extraordinary amount of strands coming out in the middle of the carpet. And we had to keep my daughter who's crawling and tries to put everything in her mouth away. I told Damian that it's not safe and is a choking hazard for my daughter. He came in, looked at it, cut out a sample, and sent it to Mohawk. It's disconcerting and I told him I don't feel comfortable with having the same pile length put back into the house. I asked him if it's normal and he told me that's not supposed to happen at all.
For the past month and a half, my vacuum has been loading strands from the carpet. And we paid a pretty penny for the carpet because of the silk strand. We had the option of going with the more plush pile versus the low profile with the pattern silk strand so I told Damian that my wife and I would prefer to go the low profile if this is what the carpet that we got is doing. So he'd check with Mohawk to see if they covered the carpet under warranty and order the other carpet with the same color.

We bought Mohawk Flooring's engineered hardwood from the floor store in Concord, California and they were excellent. We also looked around but this one had the best warranty. It had the lifetime warranty which is my favorite feature. It was installed in the kitchen and family room of my home. It's a floating floor and there's still a lot of movement in it. So that was something we weren't expecting. We have hardwood in the rest of the house but it's nailed-down hardwood and this one, I can tell it's floating and it moves.
Also, there were a lot of pieces of wood that were flawed. The installers weren't careful about one piece in particular where there was some unusual staining. Then there's one piece that's installed that has two black areas in it. It can't be removed because it's a snapped-together floor. And it's not in some place that's hidden. It's right smack in the middle so it really takes away. Mohawk should improve their quality control and those pieces of wood should not have been in the box. Moreover, these floors are stained and pre-finished before they're installed and it looks to me like it's such a sturdy finish that one couldn't possibly re-stain the piece that has the black. I don't know if there's anything that could be done about it and the installer said that they couldn't do anything without removing and doing a big part of the job over. So I said we'll have to live with it.

We purchased Smartstrand Silk carpet as it was incredibly soft even though it was definitely on the higher end of the available price point. Within 5 weeks of the carpet being installed we started noticing weird pattern lines in the carpeted walkway behind our sofa that looked like a decade old matted down carpet. We are a shoes off, socks on family so dirt and oil should not have been an issue at all. We called our flooring dealer who had a carpet inspector come in and take a look at it. It turns out this is called cornrowing and the manufacturers do not see it as a defect. We've tried vacuuming at all directions, raking it and having it cleaned and there doesn't seem to be any way to correct the issue and apparently there isn't anything Mohawk will do about it.
Over the past few months pretty much all the trafficked areas have noticeable cornrowing. The hallways, doorways etc. all look like the carpet was installed ages ago and never vacuumed. The carpet looks great when new and feels wonderful but I wouldn't recommend it if you plan to actually walk on it. The included picture was taken 4 months after installation.

I was sold the SmartStrand carpet and guaranteed it was pet safe/pet friendly and the best on the market. Two hours after installation my dog had a severe allergic reaction and no one will return my calls or offer any assistance. The flooring store I purchased the carpet from has called and text the representative for the last two days with no response. My dog's eyes are swollen shut and we are currently living in one room of the house without the carpet awaiting a return call that is not coming. The worst customer service I have experienced.

We had Mohawk Smartstrand carpet installed in our home two months ago. Liked the carpet, but immediately noticed a nasty smell in the house. We contacted the Total Floors, who sold us the carpet. They suggested airing out the house and the smell would go away. We spent a week with doors and windows open day AND NIGHT with fans going. Then cold weather moved in. As soon as we shut up the house, the smell was awful again. Our eyes are itching and throats hurt. And neither of my spouse nor I have any history of allergies.
We have had new carpets installed many times and never had this problem. We sent a sample of the carpet to Total Floors who forwarded it to Mohawk to "test it." Mohawk responded a week ago that it "met all standards." Whatever that means. I have requested a full report from them. Who knows if or when I will get that. Everything still stinks, including the clothes in the closets.
My friends walk in the house and they can't believe it. Total Floors came out and agreed on the smell. They sent someone to clean the carpet. No help. We have requested several times that the carpet be removed and replaced, with no assistance. So beware... there is NO warranty on this, even if you let them know the product is bad at the very beginning. In research I have done, I have found many others who have had this same problem with Smartstrand.
If you'll confirm the location of the retailer who sold you the carpet, I can ask our Consumer Affairs team to follow up. I'm very sorry again for your experience. Take care - Laura

I did some research and thought Mohawk was a good product. There was a special on it and that's what encouraged me to go to the store where I bought it from. We didn't get the top-grade carpet because then as you walk on it or put your hands on it, you could see the impression. We decided just to go one less because we didn't want the impression.
The sales rep at the store was amazing. She seems to know her stuff, and I've already researched the carpet. I'm happy with it and I love the color. It's a perfect color with her suggestion. She went out of her way to help us and show us stuff. We really enjoyed working with her and her knowledge and how professional they were at the store. The guy that installed the carpet was amazing too. He went above and beyond, and did a beautiful cut.
We're very pleased with Mohawk Flooring and we'll go back to them when we do our wood flooring. The only disappointment was in the store they had a beautiful wood flooring sample that we fell in love with but it was no longer being made.

I purchased engineered European white oak planks from Mohawk and the manager of the store helped me there. I was looking for a European White Oak and white plank. They had it in stock and it happened to be in the showroom in quantity so I could actually look at it as opposed to being a little piece. I had it installed in my living room. It's lovely and I love the look of it. However, I have found it’s not quite as nice as I thought it was. When they engineered the wood, they cut thin sheets of the real wood and stick it on something but then they filled the knots in it, so it has a lot of fill in it which I didn’t expect. So I wouldn’t recommend it, but I like looking at it.

We purchased some wood-look tiles by Mohawk Flooring from Americarpets of Layton and we had it installed in my kitchen, entry area and hallway, and an upstairs family room. It was the look that I was looking for and the cost was reasonable. I also like Americarpet. They've worked really well with me in the past. So, I trust their recommendation. It's beautiful and I love the way it looks, but it's very hard on my feet. I started having pain in my hips after a month. Putting that much tile through my house is just physically taking a little bit of a toll and I didn't know that the tile would be harder on my feet than any other tiles.
It's really hard to walk on it all day, so I have to wear shoes in my house. I feel like a prisoner in my own house because I wanted to walk around my house in socks or bare feet. We have a swimming pool in our back so we wanted the wood tile so we can have people in and out without having to worry about water damage. However, I wouldn't put tile throughout a large portion of the house because it can be hard on the body to walk on. Carpets and wood floors are a lot easier.

As a "upgraded" option for our home, our builder, Oakwood Homes, installed Mohawk's engineered hardwood flooring. After 9 months of living in our new home, the finish on the flooring began peeling up, cracking and separating. Advised Oakwood and they stated it was a manufacture defect and contacted Mohawk. Mohawk send a "third party" inspector. Inspector said "yeah, sure is a manufacture defect," to my face, told me he'd have to report to me in 4 days. Two weeks later, after several calls, finally received the report in which it stated "the finish issues are due to homeowner negligence." SERIOUSLY!?!
I once again contacted Mohawk, only to be told they stand by their product and trust the "inpestors" findings, refusing to further investigate the issue. Hmm, great customer service. Here we are 6 months later, 15 month old floor, the issue has worsened ten-fold, still with no resolution. Additional inspector hired, reported issues to be manufacture defect. Mohawk refused the report due to it being an inspector I had hired, not someone they sent. Hmmm. Avoid Mohawk and their products is my recommendation.
Hi Cody, This is Laura with Mohawk, and I just wanted to follow up with you again as I didn't hear back regarding my earlier message. First, we hadn't found a record that Mohawk received a second inspection report. Would you share with me the date you provided the report to your builder's flooring dealer, Arlun, to give to Mohawk, so that we can follow up on this? Second, we tell consumers how to hire their own inspectors whenever we decline a claim based on an inspection - we aren't going to refuse a report because a consumer hired the inspector. Would you share with me the details or content of the communication you received, which stated "Mohawk refused the report due to it being an inspector I had hired, not someone they sent"? Here are the inspector-hiring details we give consumers: "You have the option to contract, at your expense, an Independent Certified Inspection Service to perform a second inspection of your flooring. We will be happy to review this report if received within 90 days. To find a local certified inspector in your area please go to: http://www.iicrc.org/locate-a-certified-professional/#north-america or http://nicfi.org/Search.aspx " -- thank you for any information, Cody! We purchased Hot & Heavy flooring from a distributor for Mohawk with a promise it was used in many institutions with no problems. The floor was only supposed to be glued around the perimeter allowing the floor to float. The installers used random glue throughout the install which caused some tile to lift, which voids what they have in writing for the warranty. The floor was very pretty and comfortable at start but over a year is quickly fading. At time of purchase no one pointed out that the chairs we were using would scratch the floors which they did very badly.
A Mohawk Group salesman came in with recommendations for scratch removal and how to clean which included top level executives at Mohawk Group but none will put it into writing the one-time allowance for this cleaning which would void they're displayed "Limited Warranty". They will not return phone calls or return emails. I would not recommend buying from Mohawk again in the future as the company won't stand behind their product when a real problem arises.

We are 2 adults who take our shoes off, no children or pets... as we also reside and travel to another state during the year. This is the second time the HEAT SET came undone from this carpet. This time Mohawk is telling us to clean the carpets first. So cleaning the carpets will HEAT SET the carpet? This is a waste of our time and money.

I think the Mohawk carpet held up to that pretty well that's why I went that way. I had put it in the living room and two bedrooms. There are two spots in a long staircase and some spots that were probably there when it was installed but we didn't notice. It looks like grease that has attracted dirt and appeared within the first week. We aren’t 100% sure that we didn't cause them, although my wife says it's on the riser on the steps, too, as well as on the stairs. So, it's unlikely that it's a spill but we didn't call them about it. I don't know if we can get them out or not. We haven't tried though but will talk to the store to make them aware. We purchased two Mohawk rugs recently. It was broadloom carpet installed in our home. My husband liked the color and design. The first carpet we bought were installed in our entire downstairs, into the guest bedroom, little hallway and in the TV family room. Their cost was comparable but we thought it was at least a hair better compared to others or we wouldn't have bought it. However, my husband doesn't like the one we installed six months ago because it's matte. Every footprint shows and that didn't dawn on us.
So far, I'm happy with our carpet. It's great. It's just that my husband doesn't like its characteristic and he didn't notice that before we bought it. Mohawk has gazillion different names, quality levels with slightly different price tweaks, which is partly due to branding which makes it hard for the consumer to know. They look almost identical, but not quite. It's really hard to compare from place to place. It could be a lot easier if everybody had the same thing. Overall it's a nice quality carpet and we got what we paid for.

I'm very pleased and big fan of carpet. I was looking for a particular color and Mohawk had the color. They sent me a sample and said that the actual carpet might vary from the sample. That was my one concern, and I said, "Oh no. Now that I have just the color I want, it would be awful if I didn't get it in the actual carpeting that was installed." But the color of the actual carpet was exactly the same color. I was very happy with the color, I was trying to get the carpet and what would go with it. When the person at the floor store showed me this color and it was called, "Icicle.", I said, "Oh, that's it. That's got to be it." And I was right. The color was so perfect when I put it down, because the house has been painted.
Then, I bought the carpet from the floor store and they were very good, helpful and had pretty much what I wanted. The installation was very nice, professional, neatly and quickly done. I'm very happy with how the product turns out, and it's good. I like the way the carpet looks besides the color, and was also comfortable with the name "Mohawk," because I know it. The carpet looks great, easier to deal with, and feels good on the feet. The only thing is, in corner, the flooring seems to buckle up if I step on it. And they said to me that if it persists, they'll come back and do something about it. But everything else is fine, and the price was good too. I did the rug with Mohawk too and that was very nice.

I've had lot of people comment, "Now I know what you mean by an upgrade." At the end of the day, it was a reasonable price since I would just buy a carpet once every 25 years.
I can walk around on the carpet barefooted without feeling that I need support because the carpet combined with the padding makes it a very nice experience. I was able to get the color combination which works with my house. Also, I like the fact that Mohawk said that it doesn't show stains and it has some built-in factors. My old one didn't have all that. Time will tell if those are real features.
They had a flier which said to use specific vacuums for the carpet. However, I ended up trying five vacuums and spent $110,000 and I can't vacuum the carpet. I called the store to ask for a specific vacuum that can work on the carpet and they went back to the Karastan representative. I ordered the vacuum that she recommended and that finally worked. But I need to know that upfront. People should know what vacuums are going to work because they don't have any idea once it gets installed then all of a sudden their house vacuum won't work. People just need to know they're gonna invest another $200 after they spent a huge amount just to clean it.

We had Mohawk carpet installed 4 weeks ago. It is making my 10 year old asthmatic child sick. It is making me sick, and I have an autoimmune disease. My eyes are red all the time, nearly swollen shut, I can barely swallow, and experience wheezing at times. No one can come into our home for longer than 10 minutes or they start experiencing red, itchy eyes, sore throats and respiratory problems. The carpet installers say they are used to these types of fumes and that's the reason they can stay in the room longer than we can. My son and I are sleeping in the carpet-free living room and have been for 3 weeks. He has a bed - I'm on the couch. We have had 3 different carpet companies come in and tell us that this surpasses just a new carpet smell and they've haven't seen anything like it since the laws on chemical use got so strict.
The retailer, who seems to actually care that something they sold is making someone sick, paid for a very thorough hot water extraction and we only got 2-3 hours of relief. Our windows are wide open with box fans directing the air out and our AC is set at 65 and running 24/7 to act as a dehumidifier to control the smell. I hope I can afford my electric bill, because the minute we stop that, the overwhelming smell returns. We have ionizer fans running, purchased $150 worth of air purifying plants, air purifiers, dehumidifiers, and even Himalayan salt lamps in desperation. Anything to help us breathe in our own home that we can barely live in. My son is doing his homework at coffee shops so he can concentrate without a pounding headache.
Have we heard back from Mohawk? Nope. Not once. Has the retailer heard from Mohawk since filing the claim? Nope. Not once. The claims agent is always conveniently "away from her desk." Mohawk won't respond to kindness, desperation, or even threats of legal action. They simply do not care. We're having to result to consulting with attorneys and are now having to remove the carpet and go without flooring for who knows how long?
This goes way beyond a warranty issue. How anyone that works at this company can meet their eyes in the mirror at night knowing that they have done this to a child, to someone's life, is completely beyond me. Mohawk is the epitome of greed, careless use of dangerous chemicals and apparently a heartless corporation that simply refuses to help someone that is asking for nothing but for the carpet to removed and replaced. DISGUSTING.

Quality control - We bought Persico Cobblestone beige from Nebraska Furniture Mart on 9/7/2016. It laid the next week by an independent installer. There were two different colors mixed in and two different sizes. Some were a quarter inch bigger. I always buy extra so there was enough to finish the floor. I planned on returning those. After I cleaned haze off I noticed a considerable difference in flooring color. There were like two different batches mixed together. I watched them bring me the tile off the floor on a cellophaned pallet. They cut and gave me 18 boxes. NFM offered me a paltry $200 for my troubles. This is my forever kitchen. We are spending 20,000. They want to give me $200 to live with this? Just slap me in the face! The first image you can't see it. So don't blame installer.

We have had Mohawk Frise carpet in our living room and upstairs for about 5 years. We purchased it from The Home Depot and were relatively happy with it. When we were looking for carpet, the person that helped us was aware we had dogs and while it wasn't a high traffic area, the dogs were in the living room. Late in the Spring of 2016, my husband was vacuuming and noticed that one of the seams has separated. It was almost the whole seam, the width of the room. Upon further investigation, he noticed a few other spots with the same issue.
He phoned The Home Depot, who sent an inspector out. The inspector told my husband he would report the seams had separated and most likely, they would send an installer out to glue the seams. When the installer came out, I was home and he advised that in the two spots I showed him, the seams had not separated, but the backing had come off the carpet. Therefore there was nothing to glue. We looked at other areas of the carpet, including the upstairs hallway, which has little to no traffic. The carpet is lifting off the backing, throughout where it was installed. He told me it was defective. We have been around three times on this, twice with The Home Depot and once I dealt directly with Mohawk. We are being told that because we didn't have the carpet cleaned every 18 months, the warranty is null and void. Therefore, neither Mohawk or The Home Depot will do anything to correct this issue.
Here is my issue, two very large corporations - 2015 Mohawk earnings: Excluding restructuring and acquisition charges, net earnings were $222 million. The Home Depot 2015 earnings, stated by Carol Tome: For the year, our sales increased 6.4% to $88.5 billion and total Company comp sales were positive 5.6%. Comps for U.S. stores were positive 7.1%. So this small business, my household, will take a loss of a few thousand dollars for a defective carpet that two corporations with a combined earning of 310.5 million dollars, won't help or stand by their product. I drive a Volkswagen diesel and am keeping my car, having VW fix the emissions. They made a huge error, owned it and are taking care of their customers.

It's creating gaps between the wood, cracked in halves all over and making cracking and squeaking noises all because the wood moves. They do not stand behind their product and they try to throw the blame on the builder or installer. From the very beginning I had to purchase three vacuum cleaners to finally find one that would work on the carpet. Second about six months after it was installed you could see wear patterns in the carpet. The old carpet we had was 20 years old and looked better than the Mohawk carpet after six months. I called the store where we purchased the carpet and the owner and a Mohawk representative came to inspect the carpet. Both agreed the carpet was "cornrowing". A claim was put into Mohawk who sent a third party inspector (on their payroll) who sampled the carpet next to the wall where no traffic had occurred. He was more worried about going golfing than inspecting the carpet. What a joke. Mohawk denied the warranty claim.
Fortunately for us we purchased our carpet from a very good family owned carpet store who replaced the carpet at no cost to us. Unfortunately it was at their cost not Mohawk! "We continue that tradition today with revolutionary product innovation, award-winning design, and a talented team dedicated to outstanding service." The short story is we had issues from the beginning with our carpet. We filed a claim 5 months in because the loops were coming up and Mohawk dismissed it, stating "The carpet works as intended, talk to your installer." We did, he came out and did nothing. Obviously because nothing can be done
Fast forward we still have issues and they have gotten worse. So I filed another claim. Due to the fact that we already filed a claim 3 years ago we are unable to file another. I find this warranty a scam and a way to get new customers to THINK the company stands behind their product. I have done everything necessary to adhere to the warranty. Periodic professional cleanings, vacuum cleanings etc. If I would have known what I know now Mohawk's product would not be in my house. The best thing I can do is make sure my neighbors and future customer know exactly what they are getting. Extremely dissatisfied customer.

New construction home. Had to go with builder's partner, Great Western Flooring in Naperville. This hardwood floor was within our "budget" and couldn't use any other company. We were not able to see the floor before closing or moving in because it was covered in cardboard. We moved in and every day find more and more splintered boards or boards without stain. Had an inspector from Great Western Flooring then had an independent inspector who said flooring was 50% damaged. We built a ranch so the entire first floor except bathroom and tiny laundry room are ceramic tile.
Four months later they have decided they can replace the damaged boards but not pay for the labor. This means we have to pack everything up again and hope they don't damage cabinets, ceramic tile, furniture and walls. I believe they need to compensate us for disrupting our entire lives. There is obviously no quality control used at their factory, or they are blind. They are making Great Western Flooring pay for the labor, which they should anyway since they had to notice during installation that it was half damaged. Won't admit to that. I must be crazy. Don't use Mohawk or Great Western flooring in Naperville, IL unless you like inferior floors and cabinets as well as poor installation.

I have a three year old Mohawk laminate floor throughout my home. I take meticulous care of the floor. I use only Swiffer products to clean. The floors are washed with wet swiffer pads once a month which dry quickly. After the first year I started noticing bubbles at the joints. Also the seams of the joints were very noticeable. The floor is on a brand new slab. I called my floor retailer who came and inspected the floor and said no big deal. Now two years later there is bubbling at the joints throughout my home. I contacted my floor store and submitted photos of the floor. They did their job and opened a claim with Mohawk. A few months later they received a letter from Mohawk that the claim was denied due to topical moisture. I wrote a letter to mohawk detailing the care of my floor. Their reply was they could not deal with me, only the retailer.
The reason I chose the Mohawk Flooring was that I wanted better quality than what I could get at the big box stores. Boy was I wrong. My children bought Pergo flooring from Home Depot. Their kids knock the crap out of their floors, and they are washed all the time. They look as good as the first day they were installed. If you read Mohawk's Laminate Warranty it states the laminate floor's joints are warranted to be water tight. It sounds good on paper. The company does not stand behind their product. So if you want to live with dirty floors, buy Mohawk. If you like a clean home go elsewhere.
UPDATED ON 11/18/2016: I must admit Mohawk Flooring was very responsive to my complaint. After a few weeks they sent and paid for by them an independent floor examiner. He did measurements to my flooring and reported back to Mohawk that there was topical water damage to my flooring and no manufacturers defect. The only wet product to touch my floors is swiffer wet pads. Am I being led to believe that Mohawk Floors can't be cleaned. That is insane!!! I requested an appeal and was told to hire my own inspector at my expense. Nice! I have many leftover boards from the install, I asked my flooring company what it would cost to repair the boards that have bubbled and are damaged. The cost $350.00 for the days labor.
I requested the flooring company to see if Mohawk would compromise and pay the repair bill. Mohawk outright refused. So after spending $5,000 on Mohawk Flooring I need to spend an additional $350.00 to repair their, my opinion, defective product. So, if you are thinking of buying Mohawk laminate, live with dirty floors, because their laminate flooring can't take topical moisture from cleaning even with quick evaporating wet jet pads. My kids have cheaper Pergo from Home Depot and that brand can take a licking. Time to get the ABC consumer guy to take on my problem with Mohawk!!!

It was to be installed in a laundry room. And originally, she may have been bent on removing the molding around the floor and the linoleum that was on the floor. When the installer came he said it was better to leave the linoleum down, which we did not know, so we let him go ahead with that. But they did deduct the price of the demolition, which we had paid up front. I have tenants in there and they were very pleased with it. The first person came out and showed us some carpets but he didn’t know what we were talking about from the sale. We then called the second person and he didn't know it either.
I called their customer service and the lady didn’t even know what carpets were on sale either. Nobody knew anything about what carpets they were advertising, it’s a waste of advertising dollars! It totally looked like a ploy to get people in the stores and purchase. It was bait-and-switch. I’ve been in business all my life but I have never experienced such a chaotic cluster. It was really a learning experience for me and I have never seen anything like this.
Then my daughter and my son-in-law were interested in recarpeting their entire house. They’re very busy people and they don’t have time to go and spend two hours in a store. So in a case like this, they were expecting the retailer to bring samples to their home and show them the best carpets that the retailer could have that’s on sale in the ad. We then called the carpet people. They used keywords to describe to us the materials of the carpet that they’re so proud of. We then told them to narrow it down to the thickest, densest, the best and highest quality carpet, then bring those samples and tell us what that name is.
Even with that, no one could help us. Consequently, my daughter and son-in-law were not able to buy anything because they could not find anyone that knew what they were doing. They are both in the science field and they want the facts, they want to know what they’re purchasing. I thought that less than 40% of people buy carpet that way. So I know that what they were asking made the process a little more difficult but the ad is the ad.
I concluded that in all this mess, Mohawk does poor marketing where no one knew what we were talking about because the ad doesn’t reference anything. They don’t give a number or a name, so which then it’s so big it makes you think, “What a joke. This isn’t even real.” And then for the retailers to not even know about it, it’s like a scam.
Then I called this one store and left a message. Somebody called me back and we had a nice conversation. She thanked me for my call and I told her about their sale that was going on for two more days and my son-in-law and daughter wanted to buy a carpet. I suggested having her call my daughter and son-in-law and making appointment to have one of her salespeople go out with the carpet, and if maybe she wanted to upgrade the sale reasonably, give them just a couple of dollars more. I also told her not to bait and switch my daughter and son-in-law, and never bring them a carpet that’s twice as expensive. I then asked my daughter two days later if this woman had ever called them or anyone from that company, and nobody did. It’s just amazing.
My daughter and son-in-law had a white carpet when they lived in Chicago. They had an issue with one of their cats in their home and they had to replace the carpet in their dining room. They picked the color as well as the carpet and the people came to install it but they sent the wrong one, and it was right before a holiday. The man at the store said, “I don’t have that carpet that you ordered and wanted so I’m just gonna go ahead and upgrade it and put this in. It’s the same color.” And they’re like, “Whatever you have to do on your end. We need carpet and this is what we picked.”
The man sold them an upgraded carpet for the same price as what they had ordered so they were very pleased with that carpet which was a Mohawk. Then I asked them what carpet that was. They said they didn’t know. They thought it was comparable to the ones that were on sale because it was the same strand. I can guarantee that they would say yes if somebody would ask them to buy Mohawk if it has a really good sale, after everything they’ve gone through. For me, I probably would say no as I’m not that stupid. However, if I went to a carpet warehouse that I could touch the carpet and be happy with looking at it and knowing that I liked that style means I would say yes. But from a little sample and a sale ad, I don’t know that I would trust them to. It’s a poor experience with them.
Hi Anita, I'm Laura from Mohawk. I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with the sale advertisement. Was this a coupon (or a form) that was on the Mohawk website, in which you provide some contact info and receive a list of participating retailers? If you happen to recall, please let me know. Though all retailers selling Mohawk products don't participate in all sales, we try to give folks a list of the retailers in their area who are participating, once the customer has signed up for the coupon/sale on our website. I recently purchased carpet at Home Depot in Murrieta, CA. I did some research online before making my purchase, and it was my goal to get a carpet that DOESN'T leave any vacuum or foot print marks. I came across this carpet online. According to the description online, this carpet claims to have all of the characteristics that I wanted: "Designed to Boost your homes decor and handle traffic with ease, the denser, fuller strands of this premium BCF PET carpet help prevent footprints and vacuum marks and naturally resist pilling and fuzzing."
It took about 2 or more weeks to deliver the carpet, but I was so disappointed when the carpet arrived during the installation day. The carpet showed several footprints and marks after the installers had done their job. I didn't think much about it on the first day. I figured it just needed to be vacuumed. We let the installers know about this (JW Flooring), and they told us this carpet was designed to prevent carpet marks - Which wasn't true at all!
I went back to home depot to tell them about the situation, and they had me file a claim. They asked me to send a couple of pictures to them. They were also supposed to send an inspector to my house to see the carpet, but nobody ever came! Not even an employee from Home Depot. I waited about 16 days before I got a response from Mohawk. I had to call Home Depot because it was taking too long to hear back from them. I was NOT HAPPY with the short response I received: "Thank you for providing a sample and/or picture of the flooring related to the above claim. Our Quality Control team has reviewed and confirmed that the product meets manufacturing specifications. As a result, we have concluded our review of this claim."
REALLY? IT took Mohawk 15 days to tell me the product meets manufacturing specifications??? This is supposed to be a high quality carpet, but it already looks old with all of the track marks. I've never been so unhappy with any purchase I've made at home depot. I went back to home depot the next day, and I asked to speak with an assistant manager. She was not very helpful at all - and told me there was nothing that could be done. I continued to show her pictures of the carpet, and it wasn't until another worker that arrived that she seemed to care about my situation. The other employee said there was definitely something wrong with the carpet and he told me he was going to have an inspector come to my house.
Long story short, the inspector never came to my house. I had to call home depot again. This time I spoke to the general manager. He apologized for all of the trouble I was experiencing, and he told me to bring an 18" by 18" sample of my carpet so it could be sent to Mohawk. It has been a couple of days now, and I still have not heard anything from Home Depot. I am expecting family to visit, and I haven't even moved my furniture back because I am so dissatisfied with this carpet. I really need HELP. This is taking too long, and I feel like I'm being ignored.
The website is misleading and it should NOT SAY that this carpet helps prevent footprints and vacuum marks. The sample at home depot was so small, it was virtually impossible to see any marks on the carpet. The samples were about 2" by 2". And one larger sample was on a hinge so I was unable to put the sample down and step on it.
I have a feeling Mohawk will not respond to me at all based on my first experience. I am buying this carpet for my parents - and it's a shame that my money is going to waste. I don't know what to do anymore. I have attached pictures of the carpet as it appears now. I've tried everything and there is nothing I can do to make the carpet look decent.

There are not enough words to describe how disappointed I am with this carpet and in particular how Mohawk Consumer Affairs has handled my claim. I purchased the SmartStrand carpet for my entire house and it did not live up to the Mohawk advertised claim that "It is the only carpet with permanent built-in stain and soil protection that never wears or washes off." The carpet stained and then the color faded from professional cleaning (per Mohawk recommendation). I submitted a claim for replacement, only for the area of the stains not the entire house. Mohawk has offered to only cover 40% of the cost of the rug materials only. That means I would be responsible for the stained rug removal and new carpet installation. I live on a fixed income. I do not have the resources to take on that additional expense.
More importantly though, I would not need to take on the cost of carpet removal and installation IF the SmartStrand carpet had lived up to the Mohawk advertised claims. Of equal and perhaps greater frustration has been the lack of personal communication and interaction with the Consumer Affairs department. It's been a real case study on how not to create positive consumer trust and customer service experience.
Hi Nora, I'm Laura from Mohawk Flooring. First off, I'm extremely sorry for your experience with your carpet. I've sent your comments to our Consumer Affairs department so that we can follow up with you. I apologize again. Take care-- Laura

We purchased engineer wood from Mohawk Flooring and installed it in our dining room. It's 3/8th inch thick, which was what my husband wanted and we liked its color. There's no problem with the flooring. We looked at a bunch of different floorings and that was the one that we like the most. Unfortunately, I am not happy with it now.
We paid top dollar for the flooring, but they never said anything to us about it being discontinued. We purchased it in 2014 and it was discontinued in 2011. Now we want to do our office and we wanted to get the same wood also in our bedroom but we can't get it because they discontinued it. I've tried to contact Mohawk and I had somebody call me back, and they talked to me and they said that they can't cross-reference it because they have no way to. They told me that there's no way they can get me backstock. There is none anywhere.
I haven't been able to get ahold of anybody higher up rather than somebody in the technical department that doesn't care much. The guy called me and said, "I received your letter. They've asked me to help you. The only problem is I'm on vacation for 10 days." Really? He's going on vacation for 10 days and he called me to tell me that he doesn't have time to really help me. So why isn't there somebody else in the department? I couldn't believe it. When he said they discontinued that flooring in 2011, somebody else should have told me that when we purchased it. To try and get help from them to find what the best solution is, that if they discontinue a product, they'll usually put something else that's comparable back in. They don't to want to help at all.
I would not recommend them because their customer service stinks. It's not necessarily their fault that we went to them and they didn't tell us that the floor had been discontinued and that they charged us top dollar for the flooring. That was our fault. But they should help us because they're gonna know what floor and colors match to that discontinued product.
Hello Kathy, I'm Laura with Mohawk Flooring. I'm really sorry for your experience with your hardwoods, and I apologize that we no longer manufacture the flooring you purchased. In order to get the closest match, you may want to ask your retailer if they carry unfinished Brazilian Cherry, and then have it finished on site to best match the color of your floor currently. Brazilian Cherry can darken significantly over time, so your flooring will likely not look identical now to how it did straight from the box - an on-site finish would be your best bet to matching it. I'm very sorry again, Kathy. --Laura

Purchased $3,000 of Mohawk carpeting in August 2015 and it started breaking down by November 2015. Warranty inspection completed but conclusion clearly not objective. I started following up by Feb of 2016 less than 6 months from installation. I selected the carpet because of the resilience ratings. Truly Tender III 58 Oz carpet was horrible.
Every place we have normal use (traffic areas) and on the side of the beds where we get in and out daily - it is totally matted and shot. Places where we have less use: sunroom, guest bedroom etc... It is just fine. In all cases we vacuum weekly with the same vacuum. Those areas look fine but the areas in question look like we bought cheap carpeting and do not maintain it. It was clear the inspector just wanted to keep her job by indicating that we did not maintain the carpet correctly. That is an unfounded conclusion based upon the fact that we vacuum weekly and have not had issues with any of our carpets in the past. We now have to rip out the carpet and start completely over. Mohawk's warranty is a sham; they do not stand behind their product and they do not have objective inspectors.

We got blue carpeting from them and we liked the color and the grain of it. And the price was right - it was on sale. It’s in our grandkids’ playroom and when they come over, they love it. It’s comfortable for them and it is nice and plush for them to sit on the floor. And me, being a grandma, it’s easy for me to sit on the floor, where it wasn’t with the old carpeting. We love the carpeting but the customer service from the floor store was not excellent. We were expecting a couple of different phone calls back and never got it. I am an architectural woodworker, so I’m pretty familiar how to run things through machines. Less than 10% out of my last purchase are warped and crooked boards and I wasn’t able to use them. When I saw it, I tried to put it in but I had to take it back out because it wasn’t working quite right. I can tell from experience it just didn’t go through the machine properly. We had the carpet professionally cleaned, as per the warranty requirements, but the cleaners could not remove the stains. Since we were dealing with issues related to my Mother's death at the time, the stains affected just a small part of the carpet, and since Home Depot said all they would do is replace the small part of the carpet affected, we didn't pursue it. Too exhausted by my Mom's death, etc. and it was in a limited area.
Now virtually all of the carpet is stained, with black, circular stains, and we have been advised by a professional that there's no mold.
